My sign for CSD Berlin / Berlin Pride. A bit of a part 2 to this.

[English translation/explanation/description: A sign with the trans flag as a background saying "Human dignity is inviolable", which is the 1st article of the German constitution. Under that, a hashtag that says #Self-determination NOW! - This is a call to the goverment to finally pass the self-determination law, which would allow trans people to change their gender legally more easily, instead of having to go through the humiliating, un-dignified process that it currently is.]

(Idea stolen from a trans friend who had the same sign a few years ago.)

I was absolutely blown away by the overwhelming number of positive reactions to my sign. So many people did stuff like pointing at the sign from afar and giving me a thumbs up or forming a heart with their hands. Several people took a photo or stopped to tell me they like/agree with the sign. One woman pointed at my sign and blew me a kiss. A few people hugged me. Some other lesbians had signs saying "Dykes for trans rights" and when we spotted each other our reaction was basically the meme where the two spider-men point at each other.

Thank you for an amazing day, Berlin!

Pride should be a protest

This is just an angry rant about the local pride parade. I didn’t actually hate everything and the people there were great. I’m just frustrated and need a place to vent.

tl;dr: Who the fuck let big corporations and political parties into pride parades?

I just came back from the main pride parade in my city and it was a party more than anything else. I understand that a lot of queer people just want to have fun and party surrounded by other queer people but I don’t think that the pride parade should be that. If there were alternatives to that parade it wouldn’t be a problem but I couldn’t find any.

I am angry at the current state of the world and angry at our politicians and I want a place where I can feel heard with that. I want protests surrounded by other queer people and for some reason those are hard to find. Instead political parties are part of the parade. like the essentially capitalist party and also the left-wing and the greens. So they show their face at the parade but trans men still cant give blood and gay men can only do it if they haven’t had sex for 6 months and transpeople need 4 years of therapy to just take hormones or legally change their name. And yes, some of these parties want to change this but they have now been in office for almost a year and still nothing has happened.

I just think that their job should be to make queer-friendly legislation not gather bonus points for showing their face at a pride parade.

I also know that many of the people representing the parties are queer but can’t they just be there as queer people?

All of this made me kind of annoyed but they have said they will change some of the stuff that desperately needs changing so however much I don’t like them being there, it’s fine i guess.

Then I found out that there were companies there too. PayPal, Spotify, Vodafone and Tesla to name just a few.

This makes me really angry. Companies should t´stay the fuck away from pride parades and politics. They should support queer employees and and have company policies that keep them safe. They could even pay for trans employees surgeries. But they can keep their capitalism out of our pride.

Especially considering that the CEOs from two of those companies are currently funding the US-American republican party.

I just can’t feel comfortable at a pride parade that let’s big corporation be part of our pride.

I just really wish that there were an antifa or anarchist pride protest of something like that and not just the big party parade that let’s the FDP (the capitalist party) and Tesla be a part of it

I hope any of this made sense because it’s a bit rambly

Über 500.000 Menschen waren am 22. Juli in Berlin unterwegs um sich die Demonstration des 45. CSD anzuschauen.
