Happy to know David Zaslav 9/11'd his own career not even a month in the chair. Fuck him and all of Discovery. And Warner too.

Batgirl would’ve probably been really cool and even if it would’ve ended up being bad, it would’ve been cool to actually see other characters in the batfamily and more underutilized characters too

“Coyote vs. Acme” isn’t the first movie that Warner Brothers has shelved because it was more profitable to shelve it than release it (remember “Batgirl?).
Have we passed into a Bizarro parallel universe where up is down and left is right? And studios don’t release movies?!?

Man, that difference between David Zaslav cancelling the Batgirl movie for bullshit reasons and Kevin Feige personally sending Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah a message of support after the cancellation (he even congratulated Adil on his marriage). It really highlights the importance of having a good boss who actually cares for the talent.

So Batgirl, one of the first DC solo movies in recent years to focus on a female superhero. The movie that was going to be the first comic book movie to have proper transgender representation with a Ivory Aquino playing Alysia Yeoh. The movie that was going to be Brendan Frasier's big mainstream comeback. The movie that cost $90million and was in post production.
Was just cancelled. For a tax write off.
Disgusting behaviour from WB Discovery amd really shows how little they care for female representation in the CBM industry.
WB is using the excuse that they want their films to be 'theatrical events'. Not every CBM has to be a next level Endgame event. It just needs to be good and fun.
DCEU is dead.

Thinking about how the batgirl movie will never be seen and how great the behind the scenes looked. I love Barbara Gordon so much and I’m so sad that I’ll never see that movie. Warner Bros/DC broke my heart for that one. I just hope the Wonder Woman game still comes out

So the new guy in charge of WB canceled the Batgirl movie during post production without telling the director (during their wedding) because they “want more theatrical event movies”, and also canceled a Clint Eastwood movie that the studio had granted him as a favor for so many years of work becase they “are a business not a family”. And among the backlash there are people defending him with the “business is business” mentality.
What I want to know is... how does this guy expect creatives to trust him and the company enough to work for them and get the movies done, if he’s so prone and proud of stabbing them in the back? It’s like he thinks the people who work for him are machines that can be activated and deactivated with the push of a button, but they are not, they are people one has to engage with. Directors, writters, actors etc need their stuff to be seen for their resume, and they shouldn’t live in fear that their work may be thrown into the garbage bin behind their backs.

The reason I'm upset about the Batgirl movie being canceled is less about Babs herself (don't get me wrong, though. I would absolutely KILL for a movie with babs), and more of what it means for other DC characters. Barbara is apart of the Batfamily--which means out of all the characters that had movies announced--she was the one who was the most likely to get the best treatment. Sure, Bruce’s "extended family" has never really been on the big screen, but DC LOVES the Bats. Over half the books being published right now are Bat-related books. And the cast had some big league actors (Leslie Grace! Michael Keaton! J. K. Simmons! Brendan Fraser!) but it still got canned for "poor reception" from test screenings. If she gets this kind of treatment from Warner Brothers, then what's to say other characters like Zatanna, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, and Nightwing won't as well? They were willing to waste 90 million dollars on a project and scrap it. There's nothing to say it won't happen again.

Barbara Gordon X4
Leslie Grace deserved better, but she is still one of only 4 people to play the role in live action and no one can take that from her.

Looking into the recent news of the Batgirl HBOMAX movie being cancelled despite being practically already done, and I am now under the assumption that at least part of the reason YJ hasn't gotten a 5th season confirmed yet is that internally it is unclear at the moment if there will even be a streaming service accepting new, scripted content for a theoretical season 5 to air on.
Yeah, it really sucks that Warner Bros is going downhill so fast. They're canceling all their best projects, especially the ones that promote diversity like the Batgirl movie or even Young Justice, and then sticking by the more problematic projects and people like Ezra Miller or JK Rowling. They're honestly just on a path towards self-destruction. Hopefully they'll learn their lesson before they go belly-up. And I definitely hope Young Justice finds its way to a fifth season regardless of what happens to HBO Max. After all, we already saved this show once. We can certainly do it again
