SUM. : it was supposed to be more than a one night stand and a great weekend spent together; there was a connection, the time spent together was special...so why did it all just stop?

A/N : sorry it took so long to put this out, i really didn’t like the first several drafts of it and the plot arc needed a lot of tweaking. this is also just the start so it’s a bit short but there’s a lot to come, i promise! enjoy the read, dolls! all my love x

New beginnings need an equally new environment so that the pristine setting can sufficiently accommodate your grave yearning for a clean slate. It’s only been a few days but there’s a particular type of comfort that comes with living in a new place. Not only that, it saves you from ever remembering the once happy and now bitter memories held in your old home.

It’s silly, really.

To think that you would move houses just to keep from being reminded of the magical night and weekend you spent with a certain electrifying prohero. Nevertheless, here you are, fully moved into a recently available penthouse apartment and with a noticeable bump in your tummy as you were already in your second trimester.

You can be rightfully bitter towards the man responsible for your current lonely circumstance but knowing that you would soon have such a precious gift to centre your new life around was enough motivation for you to keep going.

You’re capable of letting a man go but not your baby.

Despite having a new backdrop in your everyday life, oftentimes, when you have an absent pause to think about random things occurring at that moment, you fall victim to those same sweetly haunting memories. Underlined by a warm gentleness that tries to comfort you in spite of the hollowed emptiness it carves into your chest, leaving you to ache for the missing piece that slipped through your fingers. On your lips is a small, heavy smile and brows are stitched up and furrowed tightly; it’s a perfect illustration of your consistent internal conflict.

That weekend was such a complicated and jumbled mix of emotions and experiences. It felt as if you had lived through an entire high school romance with this man in the span of only 2 days. He had made such good love to you and didn’t stop, even outside bedroom activities. After such a deeply passionate and heated few hours, he spent equally as much time, if not more, cherishing you and worshipping your entire being, not just your body. He made you laugh so hard that, at times, you cried. And the rest of your time spent together, he made you feel so loved, your heart ached with a longing that made you question why you hadn’t met him sooner.

Those two blissful days were spent away from all outside sources, your phones tucked away and silent, leaving the two of you to immerse yourselves in your own secluded world - a paradise only meant for you two. Sometimes, he cooked for you and sometimes you cooked for him. His dishes were a rather poor and sad attempt but seeing the determination in his gaze over the stovetop made the food taste better than any gourmet restaurant dish you have ever indulged in. He serenaded you over karaoke, cuddled you close through ghibli films and never stopped peppering you with kisses and affectionate nuzzles. He was childish and handsome and a dream to be with.

God! You were so in love! So deeply in love with him.

He wasn’t like any other guy that had tried to court you before and, even though you were now in such a miserable situation, you could never bring yourself to regret going to the charity gala or spending the following weekend with him.

If only he didn’t break your heart so cruelly.

Was it all an act?

You didn’t want to believe it but what other option was there for you? The only person who could possibly ease the turmoil in your head and chest was not there to do so.

You vividly remember the Monday morning you saw him last as you were rushing to work. It was the first time you were ever late to attend a meeting with an important and recurring client…

“I’m sorry to be in such a rush like this, Denki,” you apologised, downing your coffee and regretting it the instant your tongue blistered up from its hot temperature.

“No worries, beautiful,” he stands from his seat at the island counter, “I’ll be heading to work soon enough as well,” he pulls you in by the waist and passionately locks you in a deep kiss, one that you never wanted to pull away from.

“Here’s my number, please call me soon,” you pant from the zealous kiss, hurriedly scribbling down your digits on a sticky note and rushing off, “feel free to leave whenever and don’t worry about locking the door on your way out, the housekeeper will do it; i already messaged them! Goodbye!”

‘I love you!’ it was on the tip of your tongue but you hesitated-

“Will do! I love you babe! Take care!”

Smiling bitterly at the memory, you clenched your hands into tight fists beside you and dug your nails into your palm, why did he say that when he never intended to keep his word?

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

Saved from your gradually drowning mind, you rush to the door, your hand instinctively placed on your belly as you open it to reveal a woman and a little girl with cute blonde hair ribboned up into adorable twin pigtails.

“Why hello there,” you coo softly at the adorable little girl rocking back and forth on her heels, “what brings you two here?” you smile at the two.

“Good morning, I hope we’re not disturbing you. I’m Yua and this is Katsumi, we saw you move in last week and Katsumi here wanted to gift you something,” both you and Yua turn to the little girl as she bounces up with her arms raised at you. In her small hands, she held a prettily wrapped gift with a lace ribbon to tie it together.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you two, I’m (Y/N). Thank you so much, Katsumi, for your very kind gesture,” offering up two open palms for her to place her gift into, which she promptly did with a widened smile.

“You’re welcome! I hope you find it yummy!” At her comment, you bring the gift to your nose and take in the sweet smell of baked goods.

“It smells divine; it must be very good!” you smile widely and giggle when Katsumi cheers happily.

“Take good care of your place, it was mine and daddy’s old home,”

“Oh?” you raise a brow, gently prompting her to elaborate.

“Daddy and I moved into Mommy’s place now so we can see each other every day, hehehe~” you look up at Yua, who smiles bashfully. In your head, you can piece together their story and feel a warmth bloom in your chest. What a cute little family.

“I’ll make sure to take good care of your old home, Katsumi, thank you for the present,” you bend down to gently pat her head, lifting your spare hand off your pregnant belly in order to do so.

“Oh! Congratulations!” Yua voices in excitement, finally noticing your pregnancy as you straighten up and feel your cheeks get warm.

“Th-thank you,”

“Oh? Did something special happen?”

You share a smile with Yua at Katsumi’s comment before explaining, “I’m expecting a baby and I have four more months to go,”

“Oh!” Katsumi’s pretty ruby eyes sparkle with interest and you have to suppress a giggle, “Is your baby gonna be a boy or a girl like me?”

“It would be wonderful to have a sweet little girl like you Katsumi-chan but I’m having a little boy instead,” feeling that the conversation will go for longer than you expected, you gesture for them to come in and sit in the living room. Happy to oblige, they take up room on your sofa as you go about plating the baked goodies you were gifted. Yua had promptly offered to help but you waved her off gently with a smile. Despite being 5 months along, you can still do this much.

“Like Ren!”

“Who’s Ren?” you ask curiously, centering the plated cookies and hand out complimentary glasses of milk. Naturally, Katsumi digs in as soon as she’s given the chance to as Yua reddies a napkin to wipe at her messy cheeks. A very cute mother and daughter pair.

“He’s my best friend! He’s super nice! You’ll like him too!” Katsumi says through a mouthful of cookies that she washes down with big gulps of her milk.

“Then I’m sure I will like him instantly, any friend of yours is a friend of mine,” you smile as Yua offers Katsumi her glass of milk as the little girl had already finished hers.

“That reminds me!” Yua claps her hands together and smiles in delight, “Akina, Ren’s mother, is also pregnant, I think you’re further along than she is but we should all get together for lunch or something,”

“Oh? That might be nice, I have nothing better to do so making a new pregnant friend might do me some good, especially since this is my first pregnancy,” you giggle as Yua joins you.

“That’s perfect! It’ll be Akina’s second pregnancy so I’m sure she can help you out if you need some advice. I’ll try to get everyone together soon! Can I have your number?”

“Of course!” you’re so happy for the companionship, even though your family supports you, they live far away and have their own lives to worry about. You weren’t openly judged by them but your family largely lives off the philosophy of independence, a concept you hate but are somewhat grateful for as it’s led to your success. It’s only when you finally realise how lonely you’ve become that you despise the teachings of your family. For your baby, you will live differently and with more love and affection; the first step towards that will be having a stable friendship group. Yua hands over her phone with a new contact page open, you’re quick to type in your contact details, there is a pause however as you realise you’re typing your work contact and pause to remember your personal number instead. Flushing at the embarrassing delay, you hand back Yua’s phone with haste.

“When will you be free?” Yua asks as she tucks her phone away, the two of you leaving Katsumi to devour the gift she made for you; you didn’t mind, just seeing her eat made you feel full.

“I’d be happy to meet up tomorrow, I’ve been feeling kind of lonely,” you bashfully admit as Yua gives you a warm smile.

“That sounds perfect! I know I’m available tomorrow and I’m pretty sure Akina is too but I’ll have to double check. Do you have a favourite dessert or common pregnancy craving? I can bake us something nice to share,”

You ponder for a moment and shrug, “Anything sweet will do it for me,” the comment makes Yua laugh and nod in understanding.

“I’m sure I can whip something up then,” Yua then turns to the contentedly smiling little girl beside her, who mercilessly consumed half the chunky cookies she had brought over, “Katsumi it’s time to go, cupcake,”

“Okay! Thank you for having us over and for sharing your cookies with us miss (Y/N)!” She grins brightly with crumbs all over her mouth and cheeks and you have to resist reaching forward to squish them between your fingers, mentally thanking Yua for interrupting your urges by wiping at her messy appearance once more.

“It’s no problem, sweetie, please come over again soon, I already love having you as company,” the praise makes her nose turn up slightly as she hums in self-gratification. Katsumi had, at first, been worried that you may be like all the horrible women chasing after her father but she was glad her mom encouraged her to be a good neighbour first; you’re a really nice lady and you’re already good friends with her mom so that’s extra good points in your favour.

“And if you need anything at all, we’re right next door so please give us a shout,” Yua offers, “Katsuki says pregnancy is as tough as being a prohero and always offers to help Akina and Eijiro whenever they need him, so we happily extend the same courtesy to you,”

“Thank you so much!‘ you beam happily, incredibly grateful for their selflessness. If only your own family was this openly supportive and kind.

With a warm goodbye and promise to meet again soon, you see your two new friends out and return to finally enjoy your first cookie. Humming is content, you sigh from bliss. Such a sweet taste.

“You’re really off your game, Denki, you need to sort out whatever it is that’s throwing you off. It’s becoming a danger to everyone on the field,” Kirishima comments as the two sit in opposite hospital beds with bandages covering their unnecessarily sustained injuries.

“I-I’m sorry man…” Kaminari sighs in exasperation, seated at the edge of his bed with his hands grabbing at his blonde hair as he leans forward. The shame swirling within him force his eyes and face away from his close friend and teammate’s eyes, “I just can’t get her out of my head…how could she do that to me?” the blonde begins to ramble as his red-headed friend looks on at him in sympathy, “Give me a non-existent number? Did she not want to keep in contact after all? I’ve dated many girls trying to settle down and I thought she was the one! She’s everything I could ever want in a girl! Beautiful, kind, smart, funny, put together! She actually laughs at my silly jokes, and she has the most beautiful laugh too…” Kaminari smiles and falls back with a dreamy sigh, “She has me on a leash and I want to love her with my everything but instead she plays such a cruel joke on me,” he almost sobs at his miserable reality, “I can take rejection, I’ve had to go through so many already but this…this was too much…she knows I love her, why would she do that to me?”

“Look man…” Kirishima rubs the back of his neck, deep in thought and concern for one of his closest friends, “I don’t know…how can you say you love someone after just one weekend with them?”

“I just do, okay?!” Kaminari snaps, sitting up to glare at his friend, “I love her and that’s not going to change! Don’t try to convince me otherwise, I know we did things backwards but I would do anything for her. She’s not like those other girls, I can see right through them, they’re pretty but (Y/N) is beautiful. They’re sweet but (Y/N) is kind and gentle and loving and funny and charming and mean, in the best way! She makes it so easy to love her. If I could, I would give her the world…” The frustration and sadness coursing through him brings about a static to surround Kaminari’s frame, charging the surrounding metals momentarily.

“Have you tried going to her place?”

“I did but I was too late! She was never there when I went to visit and the last time I went, the gardeners working on the estate told me she had moved out! I spent the best, most blissful two days of my life in that house and she just left it!” Kaminari feels the prickling of tears surface as he breaks down, the heartbreak suffocating him and making it unbearable to even exist. Unable to look at his friend’s broken down state much longer, Kirishima steps forward and pulls the blonde up into a standing hug.

“Why don’t you take a break from hero work, at least? Clearly you need time to think and get yourself together, it’s better you do that away from villains who could cause you and others harm,” Kirishima advises with gentle comforting pats on his best friend’s back.

“...m-maybe you’re right,” Kaminari sighs, the emotional exhaustion evident in his droopy eyes and slouching figure, “look man, I’m sorry for being such a bum…I know you and Akina are expecting and that’s great news I just-...I’m sorry for making this all about my shitty love life,”

“Think nothing of it, Akina’s more worried about cooking for and feeding you herself; she says you’ve lost too much weight these past couple of months and insists on cooking extra portions so that I can bring it over to you. Just get those muscles back and stop worrying about my pregnant wife, okay?…” a scary look begins to cross over Kirishima’s face as he looks down at his blonde friend and colleague, “Because we all know how bad stress is for the baby, right?” Despite Kirishima’s grinning face, Kaminari felt a shiver run down his spine and nods frantically.

“Yeah yeah! Of course, man! Sorry about that!”

When Kaminari had work, at least he was minorly distracted before his mind wandered off to you. Now that he's on leave for ‘mental wellbeing’, as he’s submitted it, he has nothing to distract him and so his mind is always wandering off to the time you two spent together. What bliss. If heaven was a time and place on earth, it would be those two euphoric days.

The first time he saw you, you made his heart stop beating and when you flashed him an innocent smile, the surroundings blurred around him, making you the sole focus of his stare. In that one moment, he already knew that he had to make you his and himself yours. So he approached you, nervous as could be but after the introductory ‘hello’s, conversation flowed smoothly, better than smoothly, in fact. It was as if the two of you had spent all your lives together as close friends and were catching up on things after some time spent apart. You shared laughs and got closer and closer until eventually, the two of you were leaving the venue together and spending the night and weekend at your place.

The night of the gala didn’t end with just amorous, fiery sex, there was also a lot of affectionate aftercare, timid kisses and pillow talk that ranged from deeply meaningful chatter to musings of the most irrelevant things.

That was the most memorable weekend of Kaminari’s life.

He never cooks for anyone, primarily because he knows that he’s horrible at it but he did his best to cook you breakfast the following morning and you didn’t berate his cooking skills at all, you just sat down and ate it with a smile on your face. Kaminari never thought you could become even more beautiful but he was wrong. Was it your quirk? A quirk that charms others and makes them submit to you? If so he’d happily be the one to fall for your charm.

Your time together felt like you were just two normal people in love. He wasn’t a prohero with expectations and responsibilities and you weren’t… He sighs, realising, once again, that he never asked you what you did. Not that it mattered to him, the connection you two shared, the spark that became a flame and continues to burn within him even now, was what truly mattered. It was so easy to get lost in one another and forget about the rest of the world when it was just the two of you that weekend. His one regret was that, it’s now so difficult to find you himself other than the few things he does know.

Everything hurts now but Kaminari doesn’t regret spending that weekend with you. He will never regret loving and being loved by you no matter how much it hurts him to think about it.

Back from his mental health break, Kaminari is on patrol once again. His time spent away helped him centre himself and better handle his thoughts atop doing his hero work but he still can’t stop thinking about you. It’s never going to be easy forgetting someone who he felt destined to meet.

Today he was patrolling a relatively calm district just to ease into the work day. The morning was quiet and peaceful, some fans politely held conversation with him and took some photos every once in a while but it mainly remained serene until a swarming crowd apprehends his attention as he nears the exit point of the park he had been walking through. The mob’s violent movement as an angry horde of bodies made a scowl form on his face, their demanding shouts for answers weren’t hard to miss nor were their flash photography. Paparazzi, the lowest of all scum.

Uh oh~

Throws my single parent/teacher au at you and runs away <3

This is the first time I’ve ever attempted to draw bakugou(properly) or denki………at all…..

A couple of note for this au tho!:

Tsunagu is a famous fashion designer, Shinya is a teacher, and teaches bakugou - who is Tsunagu’s adopted son in this au-

However

They have some secrets

Which is that in the evenings, Shinya just so happens to work as a bodyguard for a mysterious (I guess you could call him like an almost mafia boss type person)

Who just so happens to be Tsunagu in the quiet.

They don’t recognise each other bc ✨masks✨ and shenanigans ensue~ (though it doesn’t take long for Shinya to find out so that “uh oh” could also mean “oh god that’s my boss” yeh)

Green hell au. I sincerely doubt TLJ or ZZL really know how the BNHA school system is different from how cultivation sects work, so I can 100% picture them randomly showing up at UA while Aizawa is teaching

'photographs' was the sixth fic posted for 'dark star - an izch anthology.'

Discussion of single parenthood, past spouse death, canon-typical bullying and quirk discrimination, general misogyny themes as they relate to canon BNHA, and age-gap romance, and other triggering content below this cut. There will also be spoilers for the fic, if you want to read it for yourself first.

Canon Setting AU

'photographs' is a one-shot, concerning a canon AU where Izuku 'Deku' Midoriya is childhood friends with Ochako 'Uravity' Uraraka, after their respective mothers meet each other by chance. She becomes his inseparable companion for several years of his life, before she eventually moves back to the western part of Japan with her parents. Now, he is trying to work up the courage to ask her on a date. There's just two problems: Ochako Uraraka is twenty-seven years old, and Izuku Midoriya is twenty years old, and Ochako Uraraka is now Ochako Nakano, widowed by the death of her pro Hero husband a few years prior.

Bit of an odd duck, this one. 'What if Ochako had been Deku's childhood friend in addition to/instead of Bakugou' is one of the most enduring ship-specific AUs for izch fandom. It makes sense, it's a very obvious extrapolation of the themes of the series in my opinion. Despite basically never interacting, Ochako and Bakugou have a lot of thematic contrast going on, and the basis of shipping them, casting them as 'love rivals' for Deku, or casting Ochako as 'the good friend' in contrast to Bakugou as 'the bad bully' all are natural conclusions to draw from their writing in my opinion.

This particular rendition of it was inspired by a piece of fanart by a JP izch artist that has now unfortunately moved on from izch. They now largely draw Deku/Bakugou and 'Dekubowl' content, which I still follow them for! But all their izch art has been functionally obliterated from the internet, which is a huge shame. They drew a specific piece of art that showed Deku, seven years younger than Ochako, and the progression of their lives from him as a baby, to her with him as a young boy, to her in Hero school seeing him in middle school, to her seeing him in the 'Dark Deku' arc of the manga, to him finally coming to her to ask her out. 'photographs' is actually a blunt, direct adaptation, almost beat for beat, and I've been told by a mutual friend that the artist is flattered I enjoyed her work enough to write a fic adaptation of it.

There's other elements, though. At the time this fic was written, the now-famous 'loser Deku's idea of a good first date' manga panel, where he describes taking a girl to an amusement park to hold her hands and split a crepe, was a sensation in fandom. Of course, it was instantly cannibalized for basically any Deku ship, and this fic uses that idea in what I felt was a very thematically entertaining way given their age gap.

I wouldn't really call this fic problematic. It's problematic in the sense that if I knew Deku and Ochako as real people in the situation laid out by the fic, I wouldn't tell them it's a good idea to date. But objectively there's no express power imbalance - she's not his babysitter, teacher, or boss - and both are now adults. It's just a mildly inappropriate age gap between two people who've known each other for years. I think the way we react to age gaps depending on who is involved is very fascinating, and it's funny to me that I could've just posted this fic to my main profile, and I doubt anyone would've even blinked.

It's part of 'dark star' because I wanted people to consider the implications of it all, though. The way Ochako lived a happy life, had a happy marriage to a man her own age, and had a child with him, and now in the ruins of that comes Deku, being a little selfish as he asks her out. The way that Ochako was this incredible person for Deku, and she's never really seen him as his own person, now seeing him come to her 'all grown up,' and how she buys a little bit into this fantasy of his that she probably shouldn't.

It's a little bit inappropriate and toxic, isn't it? Yet it's also romantic. I think these things can be true at once. One goal I had for 'dark star' was for izch to feel 'messy.' Other ship fandoms routinely write fairly brazenly fucked up content of their own ship, often thematically nasty even in a way that mistreats other characters or even marginalized identities (i.e. misogyny, homophobia, etc.), and those ship fandoms will eat that stuff up. Now, personally, I don't really want to write 'thematically nasty' content, per se, but I do want to write thematically challenging content that is reasonably open to interpretation. I would find it very reasonable if someone read 'photographs' and came away thinking 'I don't think these two should've dated, probably.'

There's other things, too. The reality of 'the canon plot' sneaks in at points. Sometimes this fic feels like it has almost no relationship to canon at all, then One for All will creep in to rear its ugly little head. I say that, but I do love One for All and the canon plot of BNHA. BNHA's manga largely collapsed under the weight of bad calls on its side plots, but I think its main plot has generally always been pretty good. I think this shows in this rendition, where the side plots have been largely obliterated to laser focus on 'Deku.'

Without Ochako, there is no Hero named 'Deku.' This is a statement that I would like to tattoo to the forehead of most of BNHA fandom. In 'photographs,' there is a 'Deku,' in the positive sense, but his distance and emotional removal from Ochako has left him more damaged. He presents a strong front, but he eventually admits to Ochako that he hasn't lived a very happy life. He's only twenty, but he's gone through so much no one of his age should, while Ochako has lived a fairly normal, well-adjusted life for someone of her occupation.

There's a moment where Ochako is trying to convey to Deku that she must remain focused on her child, as she is a single parent now. She's successful enough that she can afford that, which is a luxury. And she's self-conscious of her age and of the sexism of Hero society, so acutely aware that 'her life is over' now that she's over twenty-five, a widow, and has a kid. Deku doesn't see her that way, but she sees him as naive, basically like another kid.

Through the date they go on, she sees another side of him. She sees how he's amazing, just like canon Ochako does, but in the transit of Venus-type of way where she goes from seeing him as the little boy she always loved, to a remarkable young man reshaped by One for All. This is both good and deeply inappropriate, and you can feel her fighting with herself through the fic to try and convince both herself and Deku that he should go for someone of his own age, a peer who will see him for what he is.

But nobody else cared about quirkless Deku. No one sees his value. They only see One for All. Only Ochako loves Deku for Izuku, not for One for All. So he clings to his love for her, up until the moment he's ready to let her go, and she finally pulls back, realizing that she can't possibly let him go when she needs him.

I think there's some really good romantic beats in this fic, which I was fairly proud of to read back through in editing this year. I've referenced the famous 'amusement park date' a few times since in other fics, but this fic ironically is the only on-screen direct rendition of it that I've written. It's a little bit perverse in that regard, but I think it's a very mature, textured, difficult take on the subject matter that asks the audience to think critically of the ship, while still asking them to root for them in the end.

Incidentally, this fic borrows a plot point and some general tone elements from ss3dj's (@marcuskay-ss3dj) famous 'Green Tea Rescue.' That fic is probably the most popular and famous rendition of 'izch as childhood friends,' using the common trope of 'Ochako transfers to Aldera Middle School in her last year.' 'photographs' does not use that format, but it does borrow my absolute favorite plot point from GTR (namely 'who is Hisashi?'), and it serves as a sort of soft homage to the early parts of GTR.

I think there will be a handful more fics in 'dark star' that are these sort of light 'breather' affairs. Some of them have very fucked up, dark conceptual themes, like sibling incest or teratophilia, but the actual tack and tone they take with those themes is comparatively light (i.e. as dark comedy rather than drama). It's necessary for me to write these 'breather' episodes, mostly because you can only make so much awful stuff before it begins to feel overwhelming, at least to me. Still, 'photographs' is part of 'dark star' and not just a regular fic of mine because I wanted the audience to think carefully about its theme and message, and to draw their own conclusions.

DC/BNHA AU where Inko gets a knock at her door open day and opens it to find Bruce Wayne outside of it. She’s shocked and even more so when he asks to come in and reveals that her husband Hisashi had been part of a group called the Leauge of Assasins. That he’d stolen Bruce Wayne’s DNA and used it to impregnate Inko in order to have the perfect heir for their leader, Ra’s due to Inko’s keen intelligence and her low chance of passing on a Quirk. Plus Inko is also distantly related to Ra’s. Combine it with Bruce’s Quirklessness Izuku mimicked his bio father.

It’s a shock for Inko but she’s ready to back her baby up. More so when Bruce reveals he is in fact Batman, the former vigilante now licensed Pro-Hero based out of Gotham. He keeps his identity secret for various reasons: one being his Quirkless status.

Izuku I’m thinking is right right now and upon learning his bio dad is a Quirkless hero is just fucking thrilled. He doesn’t want to leave Japan because it’s his home and he doesn’t want to leave Inko but he’s happy to actually have a good dad.

Bruce is more then willing to help train his son to take on UA and the hero course, and Inko is much more willing to let it happen after realizing there are Quirkless heroes going toe to toe with aliens and all of Gotham’s villains.

More so when Izuku’s siblings come crashing in, all Quirkless themselves. It’s a real party.

Notes:

-Instead of Metahuman it’s Quirks now.

-Quirks are still in the majority of people but in places like America it’s also common to meet Quirkless people to.

-People randomly gaining powers is a thing. It’s not Quirks but not-not.

-Clark Kent is publicly known as Superman and has been since he was twenty-five after the Justice League formed. Everyone knows he’s an alien to. He is not a reporter and instead a pro-hero.

-All of the BatClan live double lives.

-Except Jason who has remained legally dead.

-Tim recognizes the same intelligence he possesses in Izuku’s eyes and runs another DNA test. Turns out Bruce got half info- Izuku is also Tim’s kid somehow.

-Everyone is grossed out.

-Tim and his husband Bernard move to Japan for a few years as Tim can train Izuku’s mind easier there.

-Damian has gotten a lot better since he was a kid but at age 20 is still struggling a lot so he typically makes sure to avoid Izuku for a bit. It’s explained why. Izuku compares it to Bakugou.

-No one is happy to hear about how the school treats Izuku. He’s sent to a fancy school now thanks to his dad. He meets Iida.

-Iida and Izuku are besties instantly. The school system Bakugou is in is destroyed and he’s sent to therapy.

-Bruce is either with Selina or single cause I love BatCat but also: Bruce/Inko.

-Jason is with Roy Harper and Kori.

-Dick is married to Barbara.

-Cass is single.

-Damian is aro/ace publicly.

-Duke is engaged to someone. I can’t remember if it’s canon he has a GF or not.

-TimBer is together but also I may have it be TimBerKon.

-Oh wait… core four OT4.

-fuck.

-Izuku is trained by the batfam and is related. That’s like the entire AU. It’s with Good Parent!Inko.

So, with the comic on hiatus while I work on chapter two/sacrifice my will to live apartment hunting, I figured now was a great time to give a heartfelt shoutout to everyone who’s read and enjoyed it so far!

Like I said in my author’s note for 1-17, I check my statistics roughly once a week and I’m consistently blown away—there’s never a day where zero pages are viewed! Every single day, there’s somebody somewhere reading my comic! WHAT!!!

As a little bonus to hold you over until the comic comes back, I thought I’d share a bit of behind-the-scenes trivia about the creation of Sparks Fly.

Strictly speaking, the first character to be created was Eclipse, as I reworked her from my old WoF-sona. The first character created specifically for this project was Aster.

Of everyone I’ve designed so far, Velia has probably been through the most design changes—she’s had about three different designs iirc, and a different name for each one. Her current design is loosely based on a kingfisher.

The prize for the most drastic design change definitely goes to Ember—she was originally green and purple, if you can believe that! I ended up adapting her original color palette for a character you’ll meet in chapter eight (at least, according to my current outline)

I like designing characters based on toys, which is part of the reason for my current dragon shelf dilemma XD

Sparks Fly owes its existence to my childhood love of Wings of Fire, but also to my current love of My Hero Academia! I first had the idea to make SF while I was doing some worldbuilding for a BNHA dragon AU and then realized “Hey, I could use this worldbuilding for an original story”.

Ironically enough, not a lot of that initial worldbuilding survived to the current version XD

I’ve known who Velia’s parents are longer than I’ve known who she herself is—I’m excited to see if you guys can figure out their identities!

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for reading. It truly means the world to me that so many people are excited to see where my story goes, and I hope you all have as much fun reading it as I have in writing it so far!

Blood of the Covenant and Technically not a vigilantism for the ask game!

Blood of the Covenant: A 'Midoriya Hisashi is Endeavour's brother' fic! Pretty old one for me and I actually had it published for a while before pulling it and throwing it to the wip pile to rewrite!

It follows Izuku without a quirk but with a fire proof mutation - kind of like how the Todoroki kids (most of them) have body resistance to the element they wield. - and his Dad 'Lighter' (this was like THE first pro hero name I came up with for this fandom at the start of my writing for MHA so it's very silly) who has a combustion quirk is off on business.

Basically Lighter is part of a low key bnha version of the Justice League (because I wanted Izuku to have MORE main character syndrome bc it's cool) and so out of Japan - but he also cut all ties with the Todoroki family not long after before Izuku is born; though he briefly reconnects with Touya after Rei is institutionalised and Touya runs away who pit stops at their house before disappearing. (Given what we know now I'd change this part to be that this is when he's running off for his melt down).

Anyway, it'd just be a kind of silly maybe angst retelling of the main storyline but this time Izuku is fireproof which makes Bakugou's quirk a bit null and void so maybe better relations? Also he just fricking TANKS Todoroki's quirk in the sports festival and kind of slips up that 'hey we're cousins!' because Izuku knows about that side of the fam but the Todoroki siblings obviously don't know about him and it's just a bit silly.

(Apart from the fact the first chapter is entirely about the fact that Endeavour is in a quirk marriage and the implications of Touya's disappearance I guess.)

OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY I HAVE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THIS WIP FOREVER.

THIS IS MY COMFORT WIP OKAY?! THIS IS MY BABY.

Persona 5/Bnha au

Akechi Goro canonically was bounced from foster home to foster home growing up until he got himself emancipated so in this AU, lovely newly single foster Parent Inko Midoriya takes in this angry hurt child and decides she's going to make him see that there are good people left in this world!

Also little Izuku is taken with his new brother and things start good, they turn great and Inko actually starts the adoption process for Goro (and he's so happy because he hasn't had someone this kind or honest in his life since his mother...) but there's just one thing... Izuku is diagnosed as quirkless.

This is the deal breaker, they refuse to let her adopt Goro - Izuku is already 'too much' for her they don't want to burden her with someone like Goro (because his quirk is basically a charm quirk and so seen as bad because he can very easily manipulate people to like him and his past foster homes lied about him using it for bad things) and so he's shipped off, but he choses to keep contact through letters and Inko bought him a phone that she still pays for.

For the next few years they grow up apart but every year even after he's emancipated Goro gets birthday presents and cards from his unofficial mother and brother and for a few years they meet up every few weeks!

Now back onto Izuku's part in all this!

Inko knows Sojirou due to them having a common past job and so the Midoriya family move to Tokyo for the last year of junior high! It's on a visit back that Izuku gets involved in the slime incident and meets All Might and gets chosen! (He goes back on weekends to clean to beach and does the rest of his training in Tokyo - which is easier because it makes more sense for All Might to be seen in Tokyo it's where his main agency is anyways!)

Because of his work Goro and the Midoriya's have grown apart in the last year or so but they hope that moving to Tokyo will help with that! Also because of their shared past job, Inko also knew Wakaba and so Izuku and Futaba are also childhood friends and so the move will hopefully help her recover!

Izuku meets Akira when he's studying after school at Le Blanc and becomes a confidant! He meets the rest of the theives at the end of Kamoshida's palace and becomes kind of like their little bro? And they ride the same train to get to his junior high and to get to Shujin so he meets Yusuke with them - eventually leading to him accidentally falling into Madarame's palace where he awakens a persona!

Goro and Izuku meet up at the TV station and the plot develops from there!

The main premise is the P5 plot with Izuku and quirks told through flashbacks because Izuku is in his first year of UA! And people know the identity of the leader of the the Phantom Thieves leader in government and kind of suspect the rest of the thieves so the heroes in UA would know to keep an eye on him and it's him trying to pretend to his classmates he has no idea what they're on about whilst the teacher's all go 'hmm suspicious'!

With, of course, the flashbacks and Izuku talking about his friends and brother being the forefront of the fic!

“Don’t think I’m crazy for this but…” you muse softly, hugging Kirishima’s arm close to your chest as he guides you to the car, “everything we’ve done so far seems oddly familiar,”

Kirishima laughs lightly and opens the car door for you to get inside, “Observant as ever, babe,” he winks at you, settled into the passenger seat before closing the door and moving to get behind the wheel, “there’s a reason for it I promise,”

“So I haven’t been going crazy this entire time!” the two of you giggle together for a moment as Kirishima begins to drive.

“What feels familiar, exactly?” the off-duty prohero prompts, hoping to distract you as he drives with a determined but nervous heart. His ribs almost ache at the hard hammering of the organ in his thoracic cage.

“Everything…” The first destination was the aquarium and then bowling with a street food snack in between that Kirishima insisted on getting along the way. You hum and fall into deep contemplation, trying to connect the dots. There’s a fuzzy nostalgic feeling that comes with all that you’ve experienced tonight and you can’t resist the sweet smile your lips pull up into.

Shifting your gaze, you turn to the window, passively taking in the moving scenes, the people, the cars, the trees and gates and pavements. There isn’t a particular stimulant but it eventually all comes crashing down, the realisation behind why tonight’s date felt so familiar, it’s just like…

“Our first official date!” you cheer, turning to Kirishima, who grins widely.

“Smart girl,” without his eyes leaving the road, the red-headed hero reaches over, offering his palm for you to place your own hand in where he then brings your knuckles to his lips and kisses them softly.

“But…tonight still isn’t over yet…is it?” you muse with a sneaking suspicion as Kirishima nods and hums in confirmation. His thumb rubs over your knuckles affectionately before letting go to switch gears and make a turn.

“Not yet, no,” you wait for him to elaborate further and from the small, almost unnoticeable smile on his lips, you knew that he knew you wanted answers but kept his lips tightly shut - the playful grumble you emit soon after the realisation makes him chuckle.

“Here we are,” Kirishima leads you down the small pier of a lake where several boats are docked at, “During the day, couples, friends and families can rent these boats and spend a few hours out in the lake,” he meets your eyes with a warm gaze, “I managed to get permission to use the place after hours so it’s just the two of us here,” fairy lights and several lanterns decorated the surrounding trees at the perimeter of the lake, giving the area a subtle magical glow.

“It’s so beautiful here, Ei,” you awe, hands pressed into your chest to calm your hammering heart as you take in the romantic scene. Bathed in moonlight and twinkling stars, you often lose your breath in awe but don't want to miss a single enchanting detail and let your eyes unhurriedly soak up the scenery. From how the moonlight skims the understated ripples of the lake’s surface to how small clusters of fireflies dance at the treetops and how the trees sway to the night breeze’s sung melody, it was as if you were put into a fairy tale book, “Oh Ei…” you sigh dreamily, your chest overwhelmed with emotions of affection and gratitude. There were no words…

“Come with me,” he whispers, lips brushing the shell of your ear after having just kissed your cheek, one hand clasps your own as the other sits at the small of your back, both guiding you to a dressed up boat. There was a bouquet of flowers set to the side, blankets neatly folded in your seat next to a wicker picnic basket. Kirishima steps down first and helps you settle into the boat and into your seat soon after.

“Was this where you originally wanted to take me when our first date got cancelled early because of the babysitter’s schedule?” you asked, already wrapped up in the blanket and with the bouquet in your lap as Kirishima slowly began to row to the centre of the lake.

“Yup!” he grinned boyishly, if his hands weren’t busy he would be bashfully scratching at his reddening cheek with a timid finger, “This is the official redo so we can have our full first date for real,”

You raise a teasing but questioning brow, “And why are you only redoing our first date now?” he bites his lip but doesn’t stop rowing, avoiding your eyes which immediately makes alarm bells ring in your ears. He’s never been so bashful and nerve-ridden before.

“...I wanted to ask you something very important,” Kirishima finally says, stopping just at the centre of the lake.

“You can ask me anything,” Kirishima smiles gratefully at your reassurance but doesn’t say another word until he’s set up a portable stereo to play ambient music befitting the beautiful location. Still, not a word slips past his lips and he faintly looks around as if waiting for something to happen. You’re about to pose a curious question when a sudden glow from your peripheral catches your attention and your gaze is averted to the source, eliciting a gasp.

You see Mina, Sero, Kaminari, Sero, Bakugou, his girlfriend, Yua, Katsumi and your son setting paper lanterns afloat on the water and gently pushing them to float towards you. Momentarily, you catch eyes with Ren, who grins widely and waves happily at you before being swept up in the arms of Sero who pulls him away and redirects your gaze back to Kirishima.

“This is so romantic,” you sniffle lightly, teary-eyed. No one has ever done this for you before. “I can’t believe you did all of this for me…” you observe the scenery once again, now alight with numerous floating lanterns glowing softly across the water. Kirishima’s chest lightens at the smile on your face, he loves, more than anything, to see you happy. From how well the night is going and seeing the elation on your beautiful face boosts his confidence slightly and, for a moment, he believes he can finally do it. “Is this what you also had planned for our first date?” You lock eyes with Kirishima once more.

It’s time, I can do this…

“Not quite…” slowly, he takes your smaller hands into his own calloused ones as his eyes harden with a glint of determination, “tonight is a special kind of night,” there’s a pause as he collects himself for a brief moment, your heart rate gradually beginning to pick up in pace from the anticipation of what’s to come, “(Y/N)...ever since meeting you, you’ve brought so much light into my life, both you and Ren have,” both of your smiles widen at the mention of your son, “I can no longer imagine what life was like before you and Ren came into it and I can’t see a future without either of you there beside me. I love your cooking, I love your smile, your kindness, your giving nature, your voice, your eyes, everything that makes you you. And I know that there are still plenty of things left to discover and love about you,” your eyes become teary, hoping that where you believe the conversation is going is exactly where it’s going to go and bite your lip with baited breath, “in my head, there are so many things I have planned to do with you and Ren and would love nothing more than to do that with you as my wife…” without even realising, Kirishima has pulled out a small velvet box to open and reveal a gorgeous ring, one that is exactly your size and perfectly tailored to your taste in jewellery, “will you do me the honour, make my dreams come true, make me the happiest man on earth and save me from my lonesome,” you giggle at his elongating to the proposal but don't interrupt except for a slight sniffle as your happy tears finally fall, “will you marry me?”

At that moment, you knew no other words except for, “Yes!”
