Birthday Days, Dates, and Personalities - Buddy Daddies
I decided to look into these for some fun, and the results were quite interesting. I’ll provide the links (both English and Japanese) that I used for the information mentioned here. Let’s start with Kazuki.
Tumblr media
KAZUKI - Born: 16th, Day of the Week: Monday
Tumblr media
Text:  Monday-born individuals are highly intuitive and sensitive to the feelings and emotions of others. They are also said to be nurturing and caring, which can make them great parents and caregivers.
In English there is a poem as well, called Monday’s Child. It’s a poem talking about aspects of people based on the day of the week they were born. In the poem, it states that, “Monday’s child is fair of face,” aka good looking, pretty, attractive, etc. Of course, this applies to Kazuki, as does the information above about Monday-born individuals. Kazuki is the one of the two that is more in-tune with his emotions and feelings.
Other sites note that Monday Born Personalities are maternal (due to the connection to the moon), romantic and affectionate in love relationships, “perfect love” makes them happy, and they are imaginative, flexible, and good at improvising new techniques and ideas.
In Japanese, I looked up what the number date of their births tell about their personality. So, for Kazuki, it would the 16th. What was said about people born on the 16th was that they were independent, stable, bring a sense of security, responsible for achieving goals, have craftsman’s spirits, which lead to them being a bit too proud. They also won’t bend their opinions, have a strong will, and are not afraid of pressure. They can communicate their thoughts well, but often make decisions and take actions alone, instead of consulting others.
All of these personality traits are pretty spot on for Kazuki! He takes on a more maternal role in the family, he bonds with mothers at the daycare, his desire for family is very central to his growth and development. We also see that he is very independent and capable, but can also make decisions without Rei’s input (buying all of the expensive clothes for example).
So now let’s take a look at Rei and Miri. I’ll put these two under a Read More due to length.
Tumblr media
MIRI - Born: 8th, Day of the Week: Thursday
Tumblr media
Text: If you are born on Thursday, then it represents expansion, happiness, optimism, perspective, and good humor. And, this means you are very optimistic and are bound to experience the expansion of wealth in your life. You want everything to be larger than life.
According to the Monday’s Child poem, it states that Thursday’s Child has “far to go,” or that they will have a lot of obstacles in their way. Miri does, in a way, though she doesn’t quite realize that. Also, while discrimination in Japan isn’t like in the States or elsewhere, being more micro-aggressive than outright hostile/hate speech type stuff, she will likely still face some obstacles having two fathers. Her upbringing with Misaki may have turned very bad and sour had she remained with her, and there will be some obstacles that she won’t really understand until she is older with whatever is going to go down with Shigeki, Ryo, and etc.
Some other sites mention that Thursday Born Personalities have wisdom and patience, lucky, detail oriented, very loyal, and don’t tolerate betrayal of any kind in love and friendship (better watch out Kyutaro! ...I’m sorry... m(_ _)m)
Miri was born on the 8th. According to a Japanese website, people born on the 8th: like to challenge themselves, are cheerful, powerful, and festive, have a large aura, stand out in a crowd no matter what they may be doing, and have both good execution skills and take practical action.
We see Miri exhibiting a lot of these personality aspects in Episode 9 (challenging herself, cheerful, powerful festive, large aura) and in Episode 6 we really saw her exhibiting food execution skills and taking practical actions when her and her friends got lost. She was very patient then too, and seems to be pretty wise for her (but not overly so, she still has a lot to learn).
Lastly, we have Rei. And Rei’s is incredibly interesting!
Tumblr media
REI - Born: 10th, Day of the Week: Sunday
Tumblr media
Text: Sunday Born Personality: People born on Sunday are often associated with being creative, confident, and optimistic. They have a natural charisma that attracts others to them, and they are often seen as the life of the party. They enjoy being in the spotlight and enjoy socializing with others.
As for the Monday’s Child poem, it states this about Sunday’s Child:
And the child born on the Sabbath day Is bonny and blithe, good and gay.
What does this mean? “Bonny and blithe” mean “beautiful and joyful” while “good and gay” mean “good and happy.” In the above texts and what we see here...We don’t see too much of Rei. Right? Rei’s personality isn’t “life of the party” like. But, he is creative and confident in his skills. He also seems to be pretty optimistic when it comes to their hitmen plans, and people are naturally attracted to Rei.
Kazuki and Miri were instantly taken with him, there are the moms that find his mysterious personality attractive and are taken with him in that way as well. What do some other sites say about Sunday Born Personalities?
They are lucky, bright, creative, bold, loud, enterprising, and they enjoy games and are good at them. Environment is important for Sunday Born Personalities, they can be demanding in friendships, but faithful in love. In love relationships they value originality and will behave in the right way. They are content when their passion is shared.
We certainly see some aspects of Rei here. He’s great at games, he can be creative, both with things like his rice ball fillings or how he chose to save their seats.
As for the date of his birth, the 10th, a Japanese site states that people born on this date are: natural leaders, attentive to details, and charismatic leaders that people want to follow. As for love it states:
When they are in love, they feel as if their energy is expanding and they feel alive, when they are not in love, they feel as if their energy is waning.
And, boy, that really does fit what we see with Rei when it comes to the love he is experiencing through his family (Miri and Kazuki) vs. how he looked when Kazuki first met him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like night vs day.
When I was reading about Sunday Born Personalities, it was basically a “this is the personality Rei may have had if was brought up in a less traumatic household.” And it’s the personality we’re starting to see come out of Rei when he is placed in a loving and caring environment.
The leadership aspect is really interesting too. When it comes to the end of this series, I do think that Rei is going to end up killing his father. But what happens after that...there are a few different options. One of them is Rei taking over the organization and changing it up, another is him and Kazuki just stopping their professions all together. Then again, Rei could become the head of the organization and just decide to use the wealth and power past generations of Suwa have built up to change up the organization completely, focus on something else. Who knows. But the idea of Rei taking on a leadership position is definitely something I’m going to keep in mind.

since I am currently on the truthful route of survive I wanna talk a bit about Shuuji!
CWs: mentions of child abuse & death under the cut. Digimon survive spoilers as well.
Shuuji is a very hated character, even if you have not even touched the game you have probably seen some things about him being hated. I think it’s extremely reasonable, but I also cannot bring myself to hate him. Even in the normal path where he dies and has no sort of redemption, I cannot get myself to hate him.
I am not condoning his actions towards the others and especially not his actions towards Lopmon, not at all. But I also cannot say that I don’t understand WHY he got to the point he did.
His father (his mother is never mentioned, if he even has one) from the little we see, appears to be extremely emotionally abusive. He appears to guilt-trip Shuuji for not being “good enough” and makes him feel terrible about himself. Shuuji’s older brother does not help, and while I don’t think he’s actively TRYING to harm Shuuji, he is as well. Shuuji had a very rough life in the real world, and then once transported to some new place everyone is depending on him. Telling him to suck it up because he’s the oldest, not to get so worked up, and treating him pretty awfully. Not to say he wasn’t awful himself, he definitely was!
But all of that pressure to be better, to be more mature, act his age, just piled on and on. Add all of the abuse and poor treatment he had dealt with from his father from before all of this, and the way he acts makes perfect sense. It’s not uncalled for at all, while he acts terrible, if you put yourself in his shoes, could you really really say you wouldn’t feel the same? You wouldn’t snap under the pressure of it all?
The way he deals with this ISN’T good at all, actively being rude to those around him (though I’d argue he isn’t trying to be rude to them most of the time) and full on abusing Lopmon both physically and emotionally are downright horrible. These aren’t good ways to deal with it, but they are pretty real. The environment around them also seems to fuel these negative emotions and reaction. (There are some examples of this, Ryo being the big one, but that’s for another time)
He says he saw himself in Lopmon, and he hates himself, therefore he took it out on Lopmon and began to “hate” him too. Though, I would say he didn’t ever really hate Lopmon and I think the truthful path shows that a lot!
Shuuji gets redeemed in the truthful path, and he’s a pretty enjoyable character. Once he comes to his senses after Ryo punches him (epic Ryo win) he immediately realizes how wrong he had been, and what he was doing wasn’t right, and how horribly he treated Lopmon.
Shuuji even mentions that he hated himself. He hated the way he was, and multiple times before his downfall he says that Lopmon is like him. This is why I don’t think he ever hated Lopmon, he just hated the parts of himself he saw in Lopmon, he just hated himself. Once he realizes Lopmon is different and Lopmon cares about him, he has an extreme change of heart. Even going as far as bringing up their similarities in a POSITIVE sense!
I am not yet finished with this route, but I just wanted to talk about him since it bugs me a little how much unbridled hate he has been getting. He does get to be redeemed, he does reflect on his actions, he does want to grow as a person. I perfectly understand hating him! I just think acknowledging that the way he acted makes sense is important too!
That’s all on Shuuji…!! Thank you for reading my rambles if you did!
Also, I once more want to state, I am not condoning Shuuji’s actions. I am just saying they make sense when you stop and think about his character. They’re bad, he did bad things, and this is acknowledged in the plot, I have acknowledged this multiple times throughout this post as well. Abuse does not excuse a person’s actions. Please do not yell at me saying I’m condoning his behavior.

Emergency meeting
What exactly have led you to this situation? You were standing on the warm late autumn evening behind the school with a mumbling guy in front of you.
"Y/N-san, I've been watching you for several months … The way you walk, the way you talk, the way you sing to yourself, when you think nobody's watching … everything is mesmerizing", he started from afar.
You didn't interfere, as you were determined to figure out, why on Earth would someone be so sure that you were looking for a partner and that he was the one for you.
You have already had a boyfriend. Tall, salty, ridiculously blunt? Yes. But you were perfectly fine with that. You smiled at the thought of how exactly you became a couple right after the match with Shiratorizawa. Then you frowned at the thought of how long you two needed to understand the mutual feelings. That's when you were pulled out of your thoughts.
"Um, are you alright?", the boy was struggling with reading your emotions.
"Yes, sorry about that. What were you saying?".
"I was hoping that we could go out sometime and get to know each other better".
"I am really sorry, but this is impossible", you tried to soothe the bitterness of rejection. "I am already in a happy relationship and I treasure it".
"But they say you are looking for a partner. Did they scam me?!".
"What? Who? I am sorry, I don't quite understand? Can you explain, please?", you furrowed your brows.
"Tanaka and Nishinoya sad you are available".
"Available? Huh? Is this a joke?", you turned and started mincing towards the gym.
"I'm gonna kill these two ***".
"No need. I am going to do it myself. Sorry for that one more time!".
You entered the gym with a pure desire to beat up the matchmakers.
"Oh, hey, Y/N!", Yamaguchi waved. "We are done for today. Tsuki's changing. He comes in a minute".
"What? Ah, yeah. OK. Thanks. Are Tanaka and Noya here?".
"Oh! That's our lucky one! How's your confession? Isn't he a perfect match for you?", Noya and Ryo were almost radiating from how proud they were to find you a perfect couple.
"Who in the Universe told you that I need a boyfriend?", you were almost shouting.
Suga, who actually knew that you and Tsukishima were a thing, he saw you kissing on the stairs right after the reward ceremony, and the other 2nd years were watching the scene in silence.
The things started to take a very interesting turn.
"You told that to your friend the other day", they answered in unison.
"Huh? When? And why were you sneaking up on me?".
"You were looking at the phone and there was a pic of your friend with a boyfriend and a…".
"The dog! There was a picture of a dog, you two crackheads! Oh my God!, you tried not to giggle, but the situation was ridiculous.
"A dog?!", the came to a realization.
"Yeah".
"But was the guy not good? Did he have a bad breath?", they didn't want to cancel their plan of finding you a match.
"W-what? No, no… the guy was ok, I guess, but that's not the point…".
"Ok, Ryo, we need an emergency meeting!".
"Yeah, Noya-san! Chikara, Suga-san, you too!", there was nothing what would stop them at the moment.
The next moment you found yourself sitting in front of a whiteboard with a huge headline "Y/N's ideal type".
"What the heck? Where did you take it?", you tried to process all that was happening.
"So, what your ideal guy should look like?", two pairs of crazy eyes were staring at you, demanding an answer.
"He surely should be 6' 2" at least", Suga exclaimed from aside, grinning.
You inhaled and decided to play along, since you couldn't stop the train of uncontrollable flow of thoughts.
"I do prefer when a guy knows how to use his tongue", you stated and giggled.
"Ah… wha...how...", it was a hilarious pause. You were trying so hard not to crack.
"What I mean is that a man should know how to use words and brain. I like a guy, who can pronounce - Parasaurolophus - at least".
"Para-who?", Noya's face was almost screaming from pain.
"Parasaurolophus", you jumped a bit from hearing the voice of your one and only Dinosaur expert.
"Oh, Tsukishima! Join us, your big brain should help us".
"Help with what exactly?", he was analyzing the situation and what it is got to do with you. Then he saw the headline on the board and frowned.
"Oh, I know one more!", Suga was having a good time,- "he should definitely wear glasses!".
You giggled.
"Yeah, I like the glasses".
"Hm, now I understand why you turned down that guy", Tanaka pondered over for a moment.
"What's next?", Noya asked.
Your phone went vibrating.
Kei
Care to explain?
You
¯_(ツ)_/¯ It is what it is. Just play along 💗
Kei
Why? What is in it for me?
You
You get to see their faces, when they realize we are dating?
And you get to peak the movie for the Friday movie night.
Kei
Deal.
"So, what's next? Hair color?".
"Blonde", you were sitting there like in an interrogating room.
"Eyecolor?".
"Hm. That's a tricky one. I would say hazel, but someone could disagree", you winked at Tsuki, and he rolled his eyes.
Suga was very entertained by this interactive movie, so he pushed further.
"Now tell us about your personality preferences, Y/N-chan", he winked and smiled like a Cheshire cat.
"Oh, I have a really bad taste in boys", you laughed briefly, trying not to look at your boyfriend, who were visibly annoyed. You could tell that by the growing crease on his forehead. "But I am perfectly fine with that".
"She's just teasing you", Suga tapped Tsukishima on the shoulder.
"Yeah. I know".
"Oh, did I mention, that he should have a good taste in music? That's VERY important, Maybe he should not be so academically involved, though…".
"You are having fun, aren't you?", Tsukishima asked, irritated.
"Am I? This is a big deal, you know. We are talking about my future partner here", you mocked him.
"Can we go already? Didn't you say you want to try that Taiyaki?".
"Oh, and you won't complain?".
"When did I?".
"Um, let me think, the last time at that coffee shop, you annoyed the crap out of me, only because their shortcake was not fluffy enough", you stocked your tongue.
The team was in pure shock. Tanaka and Nishinoya were paralyzed by the little conversation between you two. Sugawara was grinning, and Yamaguchi looked like he had won a lottery. Daichi clearly noticed the change in your interactions, so it was not a big surprise for him.
It is not like you and Tsuki hide your relationship from everyone. It is just that you were content with what you had, not shouting at every corner about your happiness.
Of course, Yamaguchi knew everything, how could he not? He was the first to figure out your mutual attraction and helped his friend to accept the feeling.
"So, Y/N, can we go?", he sounded tired.
"Yes, sure", this time you had no intention to tease him, it was clear he was tired after the training.
"I am sorry, guys. You are the best, but I don't really need a boyfriend. I have already got one ... the perfect one, actually. So, please, no more matchmaking. I don't want to break anyone's heart, because my feelings won't change. I am totally in love", you started to walk towards the door and you could see Tsuki's ears were painted pink.
"I don't understand... wait! Tall, blonde, glasses, bad personality...", Tanaka started to decipher.
"He doesn't have a bad personality, he just isn't that emotionally agitated like you guys", you took Kei's hand, interlocking your fingers and walked out of the gym. He didn't withstand it.
"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! You are dating Tsukishimaaaaaaaaaaa!", the gym burst out with screams. You heard Suga's laughing his guts out and Daichi snapping at all of them.
"Go home, you Sherlock and Watson. And don't you dare to mock those two, or I swear I am going to kill you", Daichi was dead serious.
"Pfft...hahahah. I told you it will be pretty entertaining", you told Tsuki.
"I am glad you had fun", he answered with a slight smile. "Were you serious there?".
"M? About what? You having a bad personality?".
"You are being today incredibly funny", he rolled his eyes. "I meant, you... being in love... with me... ", he mumbled, trying to hide his rosy cheeks.
"Nah, I was just mocking them", you giggled.
"You are a dork", he stated. "But I guess I love you too".
"Wooow. Tsukishima-san. I guess I love you too. This is a confession, that one receives once in a lifetime. But I can't complain, I'll take it. Kiss me", you stopped and locked your eyes with his.
"We are in the middle of the street".
"Yeah. I know. Who cares?".
"Um... I do?".
"Fine. Let's go, then, the Taiyaki booth will be closed soon", you turned and started to walk.
"Ah, you are one stubborn Kookoo, you know that?", he sighed and surrendered.
"What? I can't hear you. You hurt me right here, in my meow meow", you tried to hold back laughter.
"No, not again with that dorky memes. Come here".
"No. I am dealing with a heart brake here".
"Y/N", he sounded dead serious.
"Yes, Sir. Don't be angry. I am just goofing around. You knew what you were signing for when you kissed me on the night of your glorious triumph… besides, ".
And then he kissed you, gently caressing your jawline. You melted into his touch and he noticed it.
"You are so short, it gives me neck ache every single time".
"Maybe you should stop kissing me, then".
"Yeah. I probably should".
"It is such a shame you can't", you walked over to him and stand on your tiptoes. "Sorry, not sorry". This time, you gave him a peck on the lips. When you were about to break the kiss, he pulled you back.
And you stayed like this for a moment, enjoying the tenderness between the two of you.

Mike’s poster and Devilman parallel
Disclaimer: this is not a theory as i am well aware there is nothing implying the topic of said work— i am well aware of the post about its printing date (1967-1972) while Devilman started in 1972 so this is just crack, my mind finding things which correlate to me lmao so don’t take this seriously!!
So, this, is Mike’s poster
Tumblr media
We can see a wizard (probably Will) summoning some sort of dragon/human out of a cauldron. Nothing too fancy, just very gay-coded. And i got to think, that human like creature reminds me of something else.. yes! a demon! And not some random one but him:
Tumblr media
The Devilman (Akira Fudo). What really made me think of it was not only the colors: red, green and yellow, but the fact that a Devilman is a human possessed by a demon but still remains his human heart inside, he’s in total control. Akira is possessed by Amon, a powerful entity, the most dangerous demon in hell. He is human like, strong, tall, buff and his ears looks like the wings we saw in Mike’s poster (he has wings himself if im not mixin the og work with 2018 crybaby)
So, introducing the story, which is pretty interesting
Akira reconnect with Ryo Asuka (Satan), his childhood best friend (as the story goes we learn that it’s not the entire truth so i don’t think it’s important but i find it funny iykwim) who tells him that the world is in great danger as the Underworld (demons) plan to conquer the world and swallow it all (rings a bell?), and the only way to save it is for him to become a devilman. For that, a ritual (sabbath) is necessary— just like the wizard on the poster needed an incantation to summon the demon.
Ryo (Satan) is canonically head over heels for Akira, he has for eternity, Akira is his true love; the author himself confirmed it and there’s like, the proof of it lmao, he is a canonically queer character
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Devilman Lady, Akira state to Jun Fudo that he in fact loved Ryo too.. Pretty interesting.. considering he is the embodiment of the "devil" something looked upon, feared, loathed..A bit like queer people at that time, don't you think? How they were possessed by evil and all such things, how impure it was
Akira is canonically attracted to women, and Ryo so… bisexual king ?😋
[EDIT] as i recollect memories of what i read in the past, Akira being able to remain still with his human heart is because of Ryo himself, he is his guiding light, he trusts him and loves him, he is his heart. that's where the parallel stops, because after that, they became foes even if their love remains. The only thing that broke them apart was the miscommunication between those two, which is a main problem now for Byler but it will be resolved, in this story? Not so much..
ANYWAY THE THING IS!! What’s interesting is not the story in itself of Devilman but the sub-text
The idea of Devilman was born in an era of war (Vietnam) and was a subtle critique of how vile humans can be, how loathing and fearful they can be of the unknown, of being different, all around the whole story, it shows that no matter what greater evil can swallow this world, the only thing that can destroy it is humanity itself. Because it is revealed and showed that paranoia and fear of the other, the rejection of other being different bc you think they are evil (the devilman) was the downfall of humanity, because they feared demon, they couldn’t understand that some of them were good that could help them restaure the balance, because they are intolerent, they ended up killing each other and vilifying the Devilman. It’s a story about pure madness of the pit of humanity, it’s the worst case scenario, but there is hope for us, lecteurs about how if we continue to eat each other, we will doom ourselves, so we better start understanding and love each other, Rings a bell? Devilman talks in sub text about a lot of taboos and other subjects people want to look upon, frown upon, it’s depicted in a war state in the world cause that’s all we’ll have if we continue in that plane of thinking.
[EDIT] the only true evil in this story is the lack of empathy and understanding as bigotery, kind of reminds us of the core theme of the show. Love has to prevail, Devilman is like at the antipode of ST for this, it shows us the darkest downfall of our world, where love didn’t win, but it can, it always can.

Dreaming To Reality: Oneiromancy Chapter Twenty Five - 11
“B-but wait!” Monodramon sputtered before he paused when both Ryo and Higashi turned to look at him. “I-I mean… if that’s the case, why would he give Hikari up in exchange for the Digimental? I-isn’t keeping her better for him?”
“I can only assume… that he doesn’t know,” Higashi said. “That he doesn’t fully understand how the Chosen Children work - or what you are - and as a result doesn’t realize what he’s giving up.”
Monodramon blinked at that before he furrowed his brow. “H-huh… I guess he’s not really that smart after all…,” He paused when Ryo barely managed to stifle a snorting laugh. “I-I mean, I guess I just assumed that he knew everything, because of how powerful he is and everything he’s done and…!”
“It’s fine,” Higashi said with a smile, chuckling lightly. “I’m sure he also thinks he knows everything. I suppose you could say that… you can’t be aware of what you don’t know. And as a result of that, it’s very easy to mistakenly believe that what you don’t know doesn’t exist.”
“Zeed’s ego has always been a weak spot of his,” Ryo said, his mirth bleeding away as the seriousness of the situation slowly settled back in. “We need to take advantage of it.”
“It’s one of our few advantages against him,” Higashi agreed with a sigh. “Even his current state is only a temporary advantage, which we’ll lose soon enough once he’s fed enough on the Digimental of Light.”
“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to talk to you,” Ryo said. He leaned forward in his seat as Higashi lifted his head to look at the Chosen Child quizzically. “Do you have any idea how Zeed is doing all of this?”
Higashi immediately stiffened at the question. “Ah?”
“How is he doing all of this?” Ryo continued, gesturing vaguely with his hands as if trying to gather his rambling thoughts into something more coherent. “It was bad enough that he was able to gate me halfway across the world and then block me from being able to gate back, but now he’s somehow been able to brainwash several of the Chosen Children! Just… who the hell is Zeed?”
Higashi’s lips pulled tight into a grimace before he looked off to the side, no longer looking directly at Ryo. It was nearly a minute before he finally managed to speak again. “Many of those questions are something you’ll unfortunately have to ask Tenraimon, once she’s recovered enough to have visitors.” He paused for a moment before he finally turned back to face the Chosen of Miracles. “But at the very least, I can answer the ‘how.’”

second best.
tanaka ryūnosuke x reader; tanaka ryūnosuke x kyoko shimizu
genre: angst, heartbreak, cheating
word count: 1.5k
cw: insecurity
She was beautiful. Her silky black hair, perfect nose, nicely framed glasses, and a cute mole on her chin. Anyone could see it, every volleyball team in the tri-state area attempted to get her number. Kiyoko Shimuzu was her name, and you could not help but see the way your boyfriend looks at her.
Tumblr media
The three of you went to school together, since primary. A trio, one would call it ever since the third grade. At recess, kids would say, “It’s no surprise that Y/N, Kiyoko, and Tanaka are all partnered together.” and during a specific game of soccer, you accidentally tripped over the ball and skid your knee. You bit your lip hard, trying not to cry in front of everyone. Your eyes were watery, at the fact that your knee hurt like hell and now everyone was staring at you. To your surprise, Tanaka ran over to you to help you up and guide you to the clinic. When you got there, the nurse sat you down and poured alcohol onto cotton balls. Tanaka offered his hand, and you gripped it lightly, with a slight shade of pink on your cheeks. It was a cute moment until the nurse dabbed onto your joint. Then, you tightly squeezed Tanaka’s hand and screamed some very colorful words. That night, your mom scolded you and sent you straight to your room. While you lay on your bed, you could not help but smile at the event that happened that afternoon. This was the start of your attraction towards Tanaka Ryūnosuke.
Tumblr media
When you got to middle school, puberty started to hit you like a truck. The rapid growth of hormones made your face acne-infested. While everyone told you it was normal, you could not help but question why does Kiyoko’s face not look like this then? Her skin was clear and had a nice dew to it. The amount of money spent on drug store products could buy you a whole store. Acne was inevitable, already eating at your brain, and planting their seed called insecurity. Tanaka would always call Kiyoko terms like, ‘gorgeous’ and ‘goddess’ while you had what- ‘funny’? The summer going into high school, you decided to get medical help. Immediately, you were put on accutane. You did not want to see anyone during that whole summer, especially Tanaka. Accutane made your face very dry, crackled, and forced you to put on chapstick every minute. Locking yourself into your room all summer, made you lonely.
Sometimes, you could hear Tanaka and Kiyoko walk by your house and hear them say, “Has Y/N ever responded to your texts? It’s like she’s a ghost.” Tanaka asked.
“Nope, she hasn’t even answered to get our nails done, she must seriously be ghosting us,” Kiyoko responded.
You tear up at the guilt of ignoring your closest friends, but it’s hard when you’re in love with one of them and envious of the other. You did not want your toxic mindset upheld against them, so you justified that it was just for the best.
When fall came around, it was back to school. Your first year. The Accutane, though traumatizing, worked. In addition, being trapped in your room all day introduced you to makeup. Looking in the mirror, you actually started to like what you saw in the mirror. You’ve learned self-care and it paid off. Scanning the sheets on the wall, it looked like Tanaka was in your class and Kiyoko was in the honors one.
“Class 2-B” you read aloud to yourself and sat down at a desk. You left the one seat open next to you, just for Tanaka. When you saw him walk in, your heart skipped a beat. He looked different, in a good way. His hair was shaved, taller, and looked more mature. When you waved over to him, he just glared at you and sat at the seat farthest from you. This made your heart drop. Why was he acting like this? Did I do something? Does he not want to be my friend anymore? Questions rambling in your head. During lunch, you headed over to his desk and pulled the chair behind you to sit down. He just stared at you intently, furrowing his brows signifying anger.
“Ryo-channn, look what I brought,” you gleefully rang, knowing that he would never in a million years refuse your mom’s onigiris. When you took out your bento, you grabbed the onigiri with your hand and put it near his mouth. Still looking at you angrily, he took a bite from the onigiri in your hand and looked away from you.
“What’s wrong?” you worried. He did not respond, so you asked again. “You can’t just act like I don’t exist Ryo, especially if you’re eating from my invisible hand.”
“That’s funny, me acting like YOU don’t exist when you ghosted me for three months? I thought we were best friends, Y/N.” Now, you finally understood why he was so upset. Before you could speak up, there was a knock at the entrance, “Ryo, want to grab lunch together?” Kiyoko said in a monotone voice. It seems that Kiyoko too was also mad at you. You could not help it though, you and Kiyoko were basically sisters up until that summer. “Yeah, let me grab my stuff,” Ryo picked up all his belongings and left you in the dust.
That day, you waited for both of them after practice. Kiyoko was a manager and Tanaka was on the team. Two birds, one stone. When they walked out together, they both saw you. Murmuring to each other. You took a deep breath, “Listen, I’m sorry for not texting you guys back and not spending time with you during the summer. I-it’s just that I felt so i-insecure with myself, I didn’t want to bring you guys down with me y’know?” Tears started welling up in your eyes, you continued, “I would hear you guys talk about me when you passed by my house, and it took everything I had to not just run out and hug you guys. But, I couldn’t. I hated myself for the longest time and I was scared that you two would start to notice it. So, I understand if you don’t want to be friends anymore, but you guys needed an explanation.” You sighed and started to turn around and leave. You fell to your feet, with two bodies tackling you down. “G-guys?” your eyes are still watery. Laughter emitted from their voices, “Don’t do it again or else we will kill you,” Kiyoko threatened.
Tumblr media
It was the final set, both teams were tied. Yamaguchi was serving and Aoba Johsai hit it back with ease. The rally probably lasted around a minute, but to everyone, it was slowed down. Until, Tanaka passed the ball to Kageyama, and everyone thought he’d set it Hinata. Instead, he setter dumped. The crowd was silent, not realizing what just happened. Karasuno just won the preliminaries. Every student screamed and chanted at them. You and a couple of other people ran down to congratulate. You ran up to Tanaka’s arms and squeezed him. He swung you around joyfully, and you pulled your face back. There was a moment where it felt like it was just the two of you. The adrenaline of winning finally got to you, and you impulsively kissed him. It lasted maybe around a second or two before you finally realized what you were doing. Mortified, you were rambling with apologies.
“Can you please just forget this ever happen-” he cut you off. Warm lips were pressed onto your lips. You were shocked at first but slowly sunk into the kiss. This was the start of your relationship with Tanaka Ryūnosuke.
Kiyoko never spoke about her feelings about her best friends dating. In fact, she hated it. But it was out of character for her to be so opinionated. She could not stand the fact that you guys would cuddle during movie night nor how he would hold your hand during the walk home. She did not necessarily like Tanaka that way, but she did miss the attention he gave her. Who wouldn’t want someone calling you pretty 24/7? And to reject them was a power move. No one would ever know, but he was the reason why her confidence shot up. The confidence to reject handsome men on different teams. All started because of Tanaka. Although, now that he was with you, the flirting stopped. She could feel herself start to become jealous and it started to infect her brain. During practice, Yachi would gush about how cute you and Tanaka were while Kiyoko just had to listen.
“Y/N is too cute,” Yachi cheesed. Kiyoko couldn't take it anymore, “Listen, I am way prettier than Y/N and Tanaka could do much better” it just slipped out. She was surprised at what she just said, and even more surprised that she didn’t even feel an ounce of guilt.
“Like you?” a voice appeared. It was Tanaka. “R-Ryo,” she muttered. “We should talk outside.”
Once they were both outside, Tanaka spoke first.
“You don’t get to do this. You rejected me countless times and now t-that I’m with someone you can’t just profess your feelings for me.” Tanaka hissed.
“I-I know, it’s just- I didn’t realize what I had until I lost it. Imagine how I feel seeing you guys together, the man I love with someone else. Someone who is inferior to me.” Tears welled up in Kiyoko’s eyes.
“Do you even hear yourself right now? Love? Please. You don’t love me. You never will.” He bit his lip sharply.
Silence.
“Then look at me and tell me you don’t love me. Because not once have you said that you didn’t feel the same way, you only said that you were dating Y/N” Kiyoko sobbed.
“You know I can’t do that,” Tanaka whispered. Then, Kiyoko leeched on him, pressing her lips against his. He wasn’t kissing back, but he wasn’t pulling away either. He was conflicted. He was too dazed and decided to just give in.
Little did they both know, there you were watching at the scene. Well, now you were hiding behind a wall, peeking at them, kissing. You could physically hear your heart-shattering. After wiping the nonstop tears flowing on your face, you left.
Tumblr media
Grief turned into anger. You threw every picture, gift, and sweater into the trash bag. Your eyes only saw red. Your room was left bare and cold. The bedroom door knocked in a rhythmic beat that only one person did. When he walked in, his eyes gazed at every spot in your room. It was empty.
You looked down at the ground, “I always knew I was second best in your heart.” You whispered, tears threatening your eyes. “What?” His face contorted in a confused stance. “I should’ve seen it coming y’know? But I just thought maybe— maybe he’d pick me.” You continued. He started getting worried, “What’re you talking about?” The fact that he was here, blatantly lying to you, gives you all the answers you needed.
“Please don’t act like that, not with me”
“Act like what?”
“Clueless. Ry-Tanaka,” you corrected yourself. “If you love her, then go for it. But don’t act like you’re still in love with me. It hurts-” Your voice broke mid-sentence.
“It was a mistake,” He pleaded.
“A mistake? No, mistakes happen impulsively. T-This whole thing with Kiyoko was premeditated. All my life, I have been trying to compete with her. Grades, appearances, and even you. And when I had you, I thought, I had won. I won the best prize ever. You. But now-” You dropped to your knees, “I don’t even have you.”
He wiped your tears with his hands, “But you do, you do have me,”
“No, no I don’t,” you denied.
“Yes you do baby, I’m right here. I choose you.”
You were not some decision, you were his girlfriend and yet, he thought that would make you happier. “Nonono, you don’t get it. I don’t want you anymore. These tears aren’t for you, they’re for me. Seeing you kiss Kiyoko? I felt nothing and that scared me. Maybe I wasn’t in love with you, maybe I just wanted to beat Shimizu that bad. Who knows? But, by the looks of it, I did win. I got to you first.” You punctuated every word, prying his hands off your face. Of course, you were lying your ass off. You’ve loved this man ever since that day in recess. Revenge had poisoned your heart though, and you wanted him to feel an ounce of you were feeling.
“We’re done. There I have let you go, now you are free to do anything you want with Kiyoko. Date her or reject her, it’s not my issue anymore.” Tanaka couldn’t even recognize you anymore. Though it was your voice and your physical look, it was like your soul had been drained, and in replacement was someone who was cold and emotionless.
Tumblr media
A/N: I’m back! I’ve fixed my writing style so everything is capitalized properly. Requests are greatly appreciated! Just shoot a message. Also, this story was inspired by my drabble and a person actually asked me to write one for Tanaka, so here you go @aestheticno !
likes & repubs are greatly appreciated. :D

I always feel like there's a crucial difference in the way akira's changes after merging with amon are covered in the manga vs crybaby, and how this makes me feel. [Sidenote: text written from scratch and without planning, delete or edit later]
Tumblr media
"I can change however I want" is a phrase that, previously, akira has already uttered. "There is nothing wrong with change." And now he says it again, confident enough, quite proud of his new self. After all, we already know that merging with a demon does have an impact on the person's mind.
Tumblr media
He doesn't hesitate about giving coarse answers, or speak his mind now. He just takes his motorcycle and heads to the hospital, where he reveals to ryo how he feels about his changes.
Tumblr media
... And he's delighted. Akira feels better, with a lot of energy and now able to do things he couldn't do before. However, that doesn't mean that later on we won't see him showing signs of concern for others. That's still there, and sometimes it's mixed with his pride and desires.
But if we take a look at crybaby! Akira:
Tumblr media
There's a surprise, separating himself from his body. And then, there are doubts but also remarks. Both by others and by akira himself.
Tumblr media
For example, miki jokes about whether he's doping, but akira denies it. Their conversation maintains a respectful and casual tone, but the main topic remains: the constant disconnection between akira and his body. I quote "this body gets so hungry. You talk like it's someone else's."
"You sudden change surprised me."
Akira's answer:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
"Me too. I still don't know how to use this body. My body turned into a devil." Sorry for all the screenshots, but it's essential to get my point across. Akira's surprised. There isn't any "I feel better" response. It's just confusion, his body is radically different now. At some point, I can understand it.
Then, after a few scenes, he decides to go to the hospital in search of ryo for answers. Akira shows concern and ask about what happened at the sabbath and the rest of the people who were there, so ryo assures him that he saved everyone, giving way to an explanation of akira's nature.
It takes fudo a few seconds to process the concept of a devilman and everything that it implies. He attaches it to a simple coincidence. Afterwards, this is what he states:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... A great contrast between manga akira's desire to fight and crybaby akira's display of honor. "If I start hurting people like a devil, kill me right away." It's extreme, and emphasizes the heroic qualities attributed to akira in this adaptation, preferring death rather than harming someone.
Slowly, he becomes more comfortable with his new self, but the verbal separation between me and body remains in the scene. This body is great.
And that's where my problems and mixed feelings begin. I don't particularly mind to see akira questioning his new abilities and shape, but the constant separation between his body and his person does, interrupting me a little bit the continuity of events, but at the same time makes me feel like paying attention to these... different characters. There is no assimilation like in the manga, a pride that's expressed "there's nothing wrong with change", quite the opposite— And I can't help but see it as an extension of the flaws that crybaby falls into later on: making a dichtonomy between akira and ryo that doesn't exist in the first place, polarizing both characters instead of exploring in a more natural and human way the differences that this adaptation decided to add between the two.

Chapter 1 - summary:
- Iwaizumi Eiko is secretly dating Ushijima Ryouta, the son of her father´s most despised rival, behind her fathers' backs.
Eiko couldn’t help but admire how cute her boyfriend looked where he sat moping. She crawled over to him and took his face in her hands. “Ushiiii” she cooed again, nudging his nose playfully with hers. “Pleeease?” And when she placed a kiss at the corner of his mouth, his resistance melted away quicker than snow on a hot day. And before she knew it, he was laying on top of her, their lips pressed together.
“You´re so damn beautiful, you know that?” Ryouta murmured, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
“Oh I know,” Eiko answered shamelessly.
An amused chuckle found its way out of Ryouta´s throat. “No need for me to say it then it seems.”
Smiling, she tilted her head and blinked innocently at him with her lashes. “What? Did you expect me to argue against you? Thank you for stating the obvious?”
Laughing, Ryouta gazed down at Eiko in complete awe. “So this is what you get for trying to show your girlfriend some appreciation. Remind me to never try and compliment you again.”
She smirked. “Don´t get me wrong – I appreciate your sweet words. I´m just reminding you that I do not need them to know that I´m fucking gorgeous.”
“Wow princess. You have rendered me speechless.”
“In the words of my sometimes very wise father: ´Never let anyone but yourself determine your worth, especially if that person is an Ushijima´.”
“Very wise indeed,” Ryouta chimed in cheekily. “And has he said anything about dating one then?”
Eiko grinned sheepishly at him, eyes sparkling mischievously. “No. But I´m pretty confident in what he would say.
“You know princess, judging by that expression of yours, I´d almost dare say that you´re only using me so you can piss off your father the day he gets on your nerves,” he said smirking.
“My father gets on my nerves often. And when he does, I simply tell him that I´m considering transferring to Shiratorisawa and he will ignore me for a whole day. So there´s really no need for me to tell him about you…yet anyways.”
“And when will you?” he asked jokingly, but the sincerity in his question shone through nonetheless. This was not the first time he had brought it up.
“Tell me Ryo, do you have a death wish or something?” Eiko laughed half-nervously. “Or do you just want to make it official so you can brag to your father that you managed to secure an Oikawa?”
Knowing that this conversation wouldn’t lead anywhere, Ryouta just gave Eiko a lazy smile and continued to kiss her. But when the sound of a door suddenly being slammed open rumbled through the house, they both froze.
“Shit!” Eiko swore through clenched teeth as the distant bickering of two familiar male voices reached their ears.  She quickly pushed Ryota off her. “My dads. You need to get out!”
“Get out?! But my shoes are downstairs.”
“That is the least of your concern right now!” she spat out. “I´ll bring them to school tomorrow.”
“Are you fucking kidding me!?”
“No, get out before my father storms in here.”
“Doesn’t he knock? Can´t you just tell him not to walk in? That you’ll be down in a second?”
“You clearly don’t know my father very well.”
“And who´s fault is that?” he said, narrowing his eyebrows accusingly at her.
“We´re not having this conversation now. Hurry up and get out before he finds us in here and kills us both!”
“But how?!”
“Through the window.”
He glared at her discontentedly, eyebrows raised high in his forehead. “The window? Really Eiko?”
Panic rose in Eiko´s chest as the humming sound from her father closed in as he ascended the stairs.
“Yes, the window! Are you deaf Ushiwaka? Get out!”
Ryouta gave her a displeased look but realized that this wasn’t the right time to argue.
“You owe me for this Princess,” Ryouta said as she roughly heaved him out on the roof.
“Yeah yeah,” she agreed before quickly shutting the window after him. The moment after her door shot open with a loud bang.
“Yoohooo! Guess who´s back home! and we brought dinner!”
Her father, Iwaizumi Tooru, former Oikawa, stood in the opening with two plastic bags in either hand and a big smile on his face.
“I thought you were going to eat out tonight?” Eiko said trying not to sound as if her heart was about to jump out of her chest.
“We were,” her father´s mirthful voice rang. He put his hand behind his head and grinned sheepishly. “But I may have mixed up the dates, so your dad is not very happy with me right now. And sure, I can understand why he would be upset, but you should have heard the rude things he said to me! And he continued to lecture me all the way home – even after we had picked up food at Momoya´s instead, which If you ask me is better anyways.”
Eiko had no problem at all imagining the words her father Hajime must have used. After all these years, she had probably heard them all. “Sounds well-deserved if you ask me. Dad had been looking forward to that date you know.”
“Ei-chan! And here I thought that you, my sweet and perfect daughter would take my side. But you´re just as cold-hearted and judgmental as your father.” He answered with a pout.
Eiko stared at her father and shook her head in disbelief at how a man of forty-five could act so childish. Probably because he still denied the fact that he was growing old, arguing that he was `no more than twenty-five in mind. ´ More like fifteen if you asked her. But to be perfectly honest, more often than less she enjoyed her father´s youthful spirit. Because although he could be a bit overbearing at times, there was nothing she couldn’t talk to him about. Or well, almost at least – Ryouta was the exception to the rule, but for obvious reasons. There was no other man that his father despised as much as Ushijima Wakatoshi, so she knew that he would not take the news about her and Ryouta dating well. Which was stupid, because besides his physique and talent for volleyball Ryouta was nothing like his stoic and blunt father Wakatoshi.
Thinking about her boyfriend, Eiko´s thoughts wandered back to the fact that she actually had forced him out of her window. And she suddenly felt incredibly annoyed with her father. Had he known some boundaries, Ryouta could have hidden in her room until they had gone to bed, but no. He had just stormed into her room like a pompous king with no regard of what she might have been doing.
“Hey Ei-chan, what´s up with that cross look on your face right now? You will get wrinkles like Iwa-chan if you keep furrowing your eyebrows like that. And that´s not cute at all. Although, your dad is still the second most handsome man in the world, after me of course.”
Normally, Eiko didn’t mind her father´s presumptuous comments, mostly because her own utterances tended to have a similar nature, but right now – already stressed and irritated – she couldn’t help her annoyance from spilling out: “Have you ever thought about knocking papi?”
“Knocking?” he asked, eyebrows raised in both surprise and confusion before his face formed an amused expression. “Tell me Ei-chan, why would you suddenly want me to knock? Got something you wish to hide from me?” he added with a wink.
She crossed her arms defiantly. “No, but some privacy would be nice once in a while.”
Tooru´s eyes narrowed slightly at that and when he eyed her suspiciously Eiko remembered just how intimidating her otherwise childish father could be. “Privacy you say…so there is something you´re trying to hi-”
Luckily for Eiko, her father did not have the time to finish his sentence before a darker and rougher voice cut him off: “Oi, are you bullying my daughter again shittykawa?” Her father Iwaizumi Hajime appeared in the doorway; a small grin visible on his face.

Some thoughts about the ending and what wasn’t told...
It got so difficult to write about SnK.
First, the most important reason is my work. I’m overwhelmed with things I have to do. Another reason is that I was told my English is not really good so it ruins the message I’m trying to tell. Since then I’m trying to avoid English but I wanted to write a last post.
Regarding the manga itself.. I’m not really satisfied with the way last chapter presented things. Yet it’s not that it was a lot of things that I missed. Just some lines or panels that might have helped that some topics weren’t so... misleading like Armin thanking Eren. Some panels showing what kind of things won’t happen anymore without titans. The point I get is that Eren vanished the main reason division was anchored in. Yet humanity can find new traits to justify division as it happens in the ending. Eren’s doing might have built a brick between both sides. Muv Luv ends like that. The main problem, the connection with the aliens, vanishes as Sumika dies but the battle between humanity and the aliens just started. The main point is that humanity has now better chances althought it isn’t for sure they’ll survive. That kind of ending makes you ask yourself if all this journey and the sacrifices were worth it as we don’t get to see the true results. It’s a choice... I don’t complain about it. But it explains that feeling a lot of fans had while reading the last chapter.
The difference between Muv Luv is that we get to see Takeru reacting to Sumika’s choice and death. On that matter, there’s a conclusion we see ON camera. Isayama chose to leave it up to the reader, as something evident yet unspoken.
Knowing his inspiration sources, where he took his concepts from, and knowng that some things weren’t explained because he hadn’t time/will to do it... It’s like knowing how things could have been but we got this. That increase the level of frustration to me.
There weren’t any moments where we get the last lines about his truth (those that were presented at the last exhibition) and how Eren may have cared about it. In the last chapter he says he doesn’t want to die yet he doesn’t think he could be forgiven. After that, Armin cuts it leaving it open... as well as the part of him letting Dina eat Carla....
There’s important material missing:
A lot of fans got mad at Eren acknowledging that he was the reason why his mother died. I took it differently. He caused indeed Carla’s death. But it was to preserve the storyline as it was. He had to sacrify her although he didn’t want it. If you hear what Ted Chiang (the author of the main story of Arrival) explains about the knowledge of the future, you’ll get a glimpse about quantum mechanics and how determinism and free will are considered in Arrival. You can either understand it like what Nietzsche presented (as a way to be truly free because your will is to live fate as it is) (2) or understand it as Chiang explains (1).
There are two important points on that:
1. The acceptance of something you already saw because it happened and it’s unavoidable and thus future is happening at the same time as present and past so there’s no lineal progression.
2. The acceptance of the future because it will lead you to something you want to experience. In Arrival: the mother chooses to have her child although she knows she will die... but she doesn’t want to lose the opportunity to know her and live with her despite the pain of losing her.
So... Eren make this hard choice just to mantain things as they were. He was somehow forced to. The flaw here is that there’s no highlight on the reasons why this was more important. There’s no true development on the things he gained doing this sacrifice. We are asked to fill that hole: It’s apparently more important that everything happens as it does in order to accomplish what we saw in the ending...... that still didn’t happen.
Titans aren’t there anymore. But the walls are still there. We are supposed to understand that there’s a possibility that things get better. Not being able to touch something for sure makes Eren’s choices and sacrifices weaker to the reader.
Sushi (oldsummerdream) told me it was a sort of non ending... Of course it was.
I appreaciate how realistic it was. That’s how humanity is. That’s what happens in Watchmen... another inspiration of Isayama. I’m glad he didn’t write his ending like that. In that story, one superhero starts a plan against humanity, something like the rumbling and wants to make another hero responsible for the attack so humanity works together against him and stop fighting each other. In the ending of the film, we see a journalist getting a diary that tells the whole truth hinting that the whole plan to unite humanity would fail soon as they get to know it was his plan.
Thank god it wasn’t like that in SnK. In this story, we are supposed to think that Eren knows for sure Armin will reach a world without walls as he states “You will save the world”.
I personally accept it. It would have been better if he said something like “I saw it”, “I’m sure you will. I trust you”. Isayama’s lovely grandiloquence was missing as it wasn’t really impactful.
What I really missed is where Eren comes to know somethin about him and Mikasa’s decision. The process of him maybe not being proud of his doing but as someone who helped humanity to have a chance. He parts way with the world not being able to understand Ymir, Mikasa nor himself. That happened maybe... but off camera. That he knew the results of Mikasa’s choice means that he was still able to see and that he didn’t left the world.
By touching Ymir and gaining power he became a sort of god... yet his power as god was limitated as he couldn’t really understand neither Ymir nor Mikasa. Yet he got to know the future of a world he isn’t part of anymore. He remained as an observer through the birds.
It’s interesting to compare him to the main villain of ARMS. Eren didn’t want to become god at all yet he gathered some characteristics of one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regarding the connection between Mikasa and Ymir... In ARMS both, Ryo and Katsumi, come in contact with Alice and build a relationship with her to the point that she reborns as their child. Here there’s not contact between Mikasa and Ymir yet Mikasa was the one who saved her. Eren has no idea why.
We, as readers, have the task to fill this hole with asumptions. I don’t think it’s impossible. But since that’s the most important part of the last arc, I wouldn’t have minded if Armin made a wild guess about it helping Eren to understand it. It wouldn’t have been weird of Armin to do such thing. That they stated that love means freedom and from that on trying to dig into Eren’s motives to start the rumbling instead of leaving it as an uncertaing uncontrollable drive he had since his birth.
On that matter, Isayama chose to show us that Eren concept of freedom was based by his nature and that wasn’t up to revision or discussion since he can’t explain it. But this: we have Eren’s drive of freedom (was it inherited from Ymir maybe?) and the freedom that only love can give.
Was it enough for Ymir to witness love? Why wasn’t it enough for example to watch what Levi did for Erwin? Let’s say that she wasn’t able to look the whole creation. So it was needed to set her free... but how two different individuals showing love for each other is enough for her to ease the pain of her unrequited love? It’s interesting.
I was called out for asking for a closure for her. I don’t see why it should be wrong to develop at least how she left the world and how looking at Eren being granted what she couldn’t get for 2000 years would be unnecessary as she was an individual and the cause of everything. A closure for Eren is not so related to her, moreover when he couldn’t understand her.
Just a statement made by other character could have helped.
On the other hand, we never got to know why Falco received the memories at Slava. It also seems to be that Armin knew Eren would say to Mikasa that he wanted her to be free and Mikasa knew Eren visited everyone. Something like that made me believe that they got a certain amount of knowledge but there were no further explanations about it.
I wonder now what was that thing he couldn’t draw for the last chapter. The impression I have is that he couldn’t really plan the last chapter but he had to finish it no matter what. I also understand how the industry works and how the process of creating something works... sometimes, a work can be modified... So I guess we might see some minor(?) changes in the last volume and the anime.

Dynasty AU: Part 1
Tumblr media
I did some world building for this one. I hope you enjoy! If you want to see the first part, here’s the masterlist.
also tagging @idiotwhotalkstoomuch since she’s awesome lmao. Love ya platonically
“Be on your best behaviour Yuu. The Asim’s are visiting. After lunch you can play with Kalim, okay?” His mother told him as she combed his hair. Yuu was pretty ecstatic, it’s been a while since he’s seen someone his age ––then again, he had cousins the same age, some even younger–– especially since this was the cheerful kid back from the party.
And he had nice clothes...nevermind.
Yuu nodded. His mother set down the comb on the vanity table before squishing his cheeks. He pouted but giggled soon after. He hugged his mom as a way of thanking her before running out of the room, followed by his nanny.
As he walked beside his nanny, his eyebrows furrowed, his eyes downcast. “What’s wrong Yuu-sama?” His nanny asked.
“Okaasan..why does she look sad?” He asked his nanny, who only looked at him with an undecipherable expression.
“I’m not too sure Yuu-sama, but it’s most likely just stress. After all, it takes a lot of time to prepare the house for guests, especially when they’re such important people.” She tried explaining. Yuu merely nodded at her explanation. He knew she was hiding something, but if she was hiding something from him, it meant that he didn’t need to know.
Though that didn’t mean he would be any less curious.
His nanny guided him to the green room, where he was greeted by his sister. He sort of wished his nanny would come with him, but as soon as his sister took his hand, she shooed her off. His sister smiled at her, and for a moment he almost forgot about that time at the birthday party. Almost.
Ever since the party, his feelings on his sister have been rather...conflicted. She was demanding, intimidating, everything she wasn’t at home. It was as if her personality took a complete 180. He kind of wanted to ask her if she was sick or if anything was bothering her.
Yuu felt his sister squeeze his hand. He wasn’t sure if it was a warning or reassurance. Hatsuko guided Yuu to the table where the Asim’s and their grandfather were currently chatting.
Yuu immediately let go of Hatsuko’s hand and ran to hug his Sofu, ignoring his sister’s yells. His sofu chuckled at his antics as he hugged him back. “Good afternoon Sofu!” Yuu greeted.
“Now aren’t you energetic, aren’t you little dumpling?” His grandfather mused. Yuu pouted at this. He was just excited, he hadn’t seen his Sofu all week due to a business trip he and his dad went to. He should probably ask Sofu why his dad wasn’t back too.
Hatsuko gracefully sidled beside them, bowing to the Asim’s who watched in amusement as Yuu interacted with his grandfather. It could only be described as precious, adorable, and undeniably heartwarming. “Yuu, you have to greet them too you know~” Hatsuko whispered into Yuu’s ear.
Yuu paused, suddenly remembering why he was in the green room in the first place. He sheepishly smiled as detached himself from his Sofu to bow politely at the Asim’s. Politely waving at an excited Kalim, who was all but ready to tackle the other into a hug if it came to it. His Sofu called him energetic, but Kalim was probably its dictionary definition.
Yuu noticed another boy beside Kalim, and he immediately took interest in their long hair. It must’ve been hard to wash, he should know, he had pretty long hair too, but it wasn’t as long as theirs. It must be fun to braid that…
“We shouldn’t keep the children from playing. After all, this is part of the reason we came here.” The woman on the opposite side, the third wife of Asim, stated as she motioned for the boy with long hair to follow Kalim. The boy nodded vigorously.
Sofu smiled. “Yes, we shouldn’t.” He sent a sidewards glance to Hatsuko, before motioning to the chair beside him. Hatsuko gracefully sat onto the chair, and honestly, she seemed like a robot with how proper her movements were. The adults led the children away from the table, instantly talking about a potential partnership.
Kalim instantly bolted towards Yuu, gung-ho, throwing his arms around him and pulling him into a hug. Yuu was rather shocked for a few seconds before hugging back, chuckling a little. The long-haired boy stood a good distance behind Kalim, politely bowing when he realised Yuu glanced in his direction. When Kalim had separated himself from Yuu, Kalim gently took the latter’s hand and led Yuu towards Jamil.
“Yuu, this is Jamil! He’s my-“ Kalim was cut off by Jamil, who bowed once more.
“I’m Jamil Viper, Kalim’s attendant and retainer.” He formally introduced himself. Yuu awkwardly told him that he didn’t need to bow, but it seemed there was no stopping him.
“No, you’re my friend,” Kalim said with a pout that made Yuu chuckle. Jamil sighed, bringing a hand to massage his temples.
Yuu was curious about Jamil, especially since it was his first time seeing him. During the party, he wasn’t there, does that mean he was just newly appointed? But aren’t retainers supposed to be a bit older? That’s how the Kingscholar’s retainers looked like. Or were those just elders?
He saw Kalim’s excited eyes as they wandered around the manor, his eyes darting around every single piece of art that hung on the walls, as well as the numerous pieces of technology, his curiosity was ever-present. Jamil was following behind them ––even after Kalim’s insistence of walking beside them, to which he declined–– his eyes intrigued by the grandeur collection. Just one of these paintings could probably keep his family alive for a good decade or two.
After Yuu’s tour of the house, Kalim had all but begged Yuu to let them into the kitchen. Kalim went on going on and on about Jamil and his ability to made really good Roti’s and curry. The three of them ended up running around the kitchen with supervision from Yuu’s nanny. Kalim was bouncing, carefully placing the bag of whole wheat flour and a few cups of water on the kitchen island that he could ––luckily–– reach. Jamil was about to go and get the rest of the ingredients himself before Kalim assured him that he could do it himself ––with a bit of help from Yuu’s nanny, who found it heartwarming how much the young Asim heir wanted to help.
While Jamil was mixing, Yuu decided to watch from the bar stool in front of the island. . He didn’t really have any idea what the two were doing, so he decided it was best if he just...didn’t interfere.
Yuu was curious about Jamil. He seemed distant, recluse, or maybe robot-like was a better way to describe him. He only did what he was told, followed Kalim like a loyal puppy, and always put Kalim above him. He didn’t really interact with Jamil much, mostly because Kalim was able to grab his attention at any given moment, but now that they were just chilling in the kitchen, maybe he could finally interact with the boy.
“So...Jamil-san, I didn’t see you at the party…and I was wondering why...” He trailed. Jamil looked up from the bowl, still stirring the mixture that was beginning to become thicker.
Jamil pursed his lips as he stirred. “A few days before the party, we found poison in one of Kalim’s meals. As his attendant, I had to poison test his food...you get what happened.” He said as he placed the spoon down and took the dough in his hands and placed it on the board.
Yuu didn’t know how to respond to that. “A-Are you okay now?” He asked as placed his hands on the counter.
Jamil hummed a short yes while kneading the dough, sifting a bit of flour on top since it was a bit too sticky. “I was only sick for a few days, I was back on my feet once the Asim’s returned from your party two days later.” He said, a small smile on his face as if reassuring him he was alright, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes...just like his Sobo’s, and even his mom’s.
He shook the thought of his head. “M-maybe I should take over…even though I don’t know anything...” He mumbled, but Jamil caught onto it. He nodded and motioned for Yuu to take his place. Yuu walked to the sink to wash his hands.
“You just need to knead the dough anyways…” He said to Yuu as he moved to make space for him. Yuu approached the board before placing his hands on the dough.
It was silent for a few moments, Yuu internally contemplating what to say next since he didn’t want his conversation with Jamil to end, and another because he was genuinely concerned. There was something that was weighing him down somehow...he wasn’t sure what it was, and he was pretty sure he wouldn’t understand it either. Jamil on the other hand was wondering why it took so long for Kalim to return, but luckily he could see him from the pantry. His safety was his top priority.
“You know, you remind me of someone I know.” Yuu said out loud, which startled Jamil. Yuu felt his cheeks flush at the sudden realisation that he had said his thoughts out loud.
Jamil hummed. “And who do I remind you of? I may ask.”
Yuu bit his lip as he stopped kneading the dough. “You remind me of Sobo.”
Jamil tilted his head to the side. “I remind of you of someone  as great as the wife of Ryo Eshima?” He asked, rather amused. She was a great woman. She rose to the top, and unlike others who selfishly took, she gave. She managed to give the homeless stable jobs, the middle class the ability to rise the ranks, she even welcomed others as her own. It was definitely a comparison that Jamil didn’t see.
“Yeah, she’s great and all, but people keep making her a god or something.” Yuu mused, and Jamil just found himself nodding, best to take the word of the one with an actual blood relation to them. “She’s human too...maybe that’s why she hid her illness. Kind of like you.”
Jamil blinked, not expecting such a declaration. Yuu noticed the confused expression that coloured his face, so he quickly added. “You’re hiding something. You may not be ill, but you’re hiding something, and I want you to know that you shouldn’t be hiding it.”
Jamil paused, processing the words that just came out of Yuu’s mouth. “Trust me Yuu-san, if I could, I would be revealing whatever I’m hiding.” He said cryptically as his eyes became downcast. Yuu was going to ask what he meant but Kalim had finally entered the kitchen, towels, butter, and some fine sea salt in hand, Yuu’s nanny fretting about the young heir.
Yuu wanted to frown, but knew that it would just get the attention of his nanny and Kalim. Instead he sighed as he glanced to Jamil, who approached Kalim, taking everything from his hands and taking the towel and putting it over the dough. Seriously! Why did everyone hide everything from him!

This time I watched Fugou Keiji Balance: Unlimited for real, meaning that all this knowledge I gained about that series from the previous time was just facts coming from different posts on Tumblr. And I got to know a lot about it thanks to you. You guys were a big help in figuring out some of the series' most important aspects, I appreciate your input on it.
Now that I’ve watched both episodes. I’m going to comment on some things I haven’t seen people talking much about, I’ll try giving it some highlight so I hope you enjoy.
1) The millionaire detective *or smtng more than that*-
Many expect the main character of the series to present himself in a way that he says his name and what he does for life, to give us an insight into who he is and to give us a better idea of what to expect of the series. But instead, the first episode opens with "I had a father and I had a mother", the series opens with a tragic story and tells us about the rich person's unfortunate life. Why's that? It's very important for Daisuke's character. Because, as we go through the series, the author probably predicted that audience would start judging him according to the way he treats people and work, just like Kato always does. The author tries to warn us not to judge a book by its covers. That's why it is so important that the beginning of the series opens this way.
2) Daisuke's and Kato's teamwork-
Daisuke, being a highly classified detective, knows his rights and what he can and can not do, which he exploits a great deal. He can damage people's vehicles and traffic control but he doesn't care, bc he's a detective and bc the law is on his side. He's using this same knowledge to reach his goal faster without wasting time on things that aren't that important, which means, morally or ethically important. Emotions like insecurity, guilt and regret aren't welcomed in this job. Sensitivity to other people's needs before yours are also irrelevant. Traumatizing a mother and a child from almost getting ran over isn't something that he'd preoccupy his mind with too much. He cares about the sufficiency of the mission and working in the favor of the government, as Ryo himself said.
Kato, on the other hand, is different. People come to him in the first place and the most important thing for him is to bring them peace and security, things that all police officers should actually have in mind. He is everything that Daisuke is not.
And when he told him "You're making quite the show here. How are you going to take responsibility for this?", we can notice that something clicked in Daisuke, that he told himself "ugh I went too far I should do something about it". And then he called HEUSC and told him to send reimbursements for DOUBLE the damage costs he caused for certain people. He also gave the Abura Emirate's seventh prince a billion yen when the car didn't even cost that much. So it’s evident that Daisuke does possess feelings like guilt, he just needs to be reminded of it.
The same goes for that scene when he tried to drop the vehicle into the river, Kato reached for the girl and told her to jump out. Daisuke doesn't care if she's a kid or if she's going to explode together with the van. It is important to him to save the rest + the kids are also considered criminals, he will take it upon himself to judge them as they actually deserved it. Kato, unlike him, can't let himself do that, he just can't. That's why he saved her and let her be with Hiroshi again. I love Kato for that.
Maybe Daisuke is a sufficient detective but Kato is there to remind him that the things he's doing aren't ok. He's giving him a sense of morality and ethics and that's why I think they're put together bc they make a great team. And they truly do, the problem is, Kato can't stand him. 😅
3) This funny moment-
I love how Kamei in the second episode found out ab the tragic death of some woman by going through one of his inappropriate sites and he's like: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
Kato *annoyed bc he's as well judging him for his perverted ways and lack of devotion towards work*: "Shut up Kamei."
Kamei *big sad*: "It says she died from a drug overdose. That centerfold model Akiko Hoshida..."
Kato: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA??!! SERIOUSLY?"
Which leads me to the conclusion that:
Kato isn't that much different from Kamei.
Kato prefers only a specific type of women while Kamei drolls over every woman who looks even remotely pretty.
Kato has a type because the deceased centerfold model Akiko Hoshida and Suzue look very alike. Kato is also into "innocent" women bc he himself is innocent, as Akira stated. + He knows how to cook, refuses to drink alcoholic beverages during work hours and is actually pretty soft. Kato is more lovable than Daisuke in those aspects.
4) Kato's cluelessness-
Because of being so innocent, Kato doesn't have the ability to criticize others or judge "the way they breathe". He's too good, too considerate, too emphatic. That's why Daisuke's here to break his pretty picture of the world they're living in.
Kato was so easily deceived by the street performers and it was actually funny. Why would they do it otherwise than for money? No one wants to make an idiot out of themselves without a certain price.
He also thought of Suzue as one of them, the drug dealers I mean, acting as liaison. And it made me laugh so much bc he didn't know what's going to hit him. 😂
5) HEUSC-
I love HEUSC so much, this technology stuff is so lit, I wish I had it. It can detect lies, analize time, deduce certain information just from the help of a person's credit card, how much income they have, how much they lost over a couple of days, when and where, what were they buying. It can detect a person, personal information ab where they're from, age and date of birth. It also shows the person's heart rate. It can even work as a magnifier and control the traffic lights, isn't it crazy??
Daisuke's heart rate is always 60 during the whole interrogation. He's so freaking calm.
You also need to understand that Daisuke's session lasted longer than Cho-san's who used weak points such as family members and sense of right and wrong. Daisuke needed some time until their negotiation was done, he gave money to a drug addict in exchange for an information while Cho-san didn't lose anything, he could as well just deceive his suspect and get away with it.
Take into account that Daisuke went through a special training in England so his protocols are different from the normal Japanese ones.
6) Daisuke's jealousy-
Lmao Daisuke is stealing friends. He invited Akira to his own ramen during their Isezaki case.
He said "I can risk my life for Kato" and omg let me tell you, Daisuke became jealous so he made a move and even paid him to get into a costume to lure Kato and the rest of the hooligans to the top.
Tumblr media
7) The elevator scene-
Kato standing in the middle of the elevator and Daisuke standing close to the corner as pinned as possible is what made my day. 😂
8) On the rooftop-
Daisuke's heart rate is 72 when shooting from a bazooka in the helicopter. Still too calm but I'd say that he's in a good physical condition considering that he's into boxing.
BTW he accidentally shoot towards Kato bc his target wasn't detected, it only wrote "primary target", he didn't do it on purpose.
But the sole thought of "stank needs to be eliminated" gets me every time. 😂
9) Daisuke joining the MCI-
Daisuke circled around the topic and refused to give the answer about why he decided to become a detective by redirecting the conversation towards Kato.
Let me tell you something, I watched too many crime series to know why he did that.
The reason is very personal.
And at the beginning of the whole anime he introduced himself to us with “I had a father and I had a mother”. I think he's trying to find the culprit for his parent's murder.
10) His lack of sleep-
Although he has lots of money, people like Daisuke tend to afford themselves a nice and cozy sleep. Despite that, Daisuke has as much under eyes as Kato. Which makes me wonder what keeps him awake at night, what's he thinking ab. Is he traumatized in a way? I can't wait for the next episodes to arrive!
Btw while watching the anime I fell in love with Kato even more, such a great character.

20 Years of Digimon - for me.
I was introduced to Digimon late in the game. I was a pokemon fan first. My cousin twisted my arm to watch Digimon. I resisted for a long time. But sometime in the middle of summer 2001, I gave in. I very quickly became a bigger Digimon fan than even my cousin was. Even though I was just seeing random episodes of 02.
Just when I was getting familiar with everything, Tamers started. Tamers was such a different thing - in a good way. I understand why some didn’t like it, but I loved the slow build. Some of the eps in Tamers where nothing happened - or next to nothing happened - are some of my favorites. I related to - and still relate to Takato SO MUCH. I was just an average kid. (Though Takato had more friends than me.) Just the biggest fanboy making fan art. (I was writing fan fiction before I knew it had a name.)
Really, I see pieces of myself in all the Tamers cast. Except I guess Ryo and Suzie. (But I still like Ryo, even if I can’t relate).
I remember in September renting Digimon: The Movie for the first time. Loved every second of it, though the middle part, Our War Game, is by far the best. I also loved the soundtrack. Still listen to them all to this day, occasionally. (BTW If you are reading this and didn’t know, the dub version of Matt’s song from the TV show, “I Turn Around” that was used in the Christmas ep and one other, is on youtube in full!)
The next spring ABC family started showing reruns and that’s how I got to see Adventure and 02 from start to finish.
Once in early 2002, I got a Saturday detention, and missing Tamers was the worst punishment I could ever have!!! (Glad the VCR didn’t fail...)
Another Saturday I worked (Started working when I was 15) and I worked with my sister, who had her own house. So I recorded the two new eps, 28 and 29, at her house. When we came home, she went in the other room, and I watched the eps. Now, I had been trying to convince people Digimon wasn’t ‘just a kids show’ that it was deeper than you’d think. She could have came back in the room when they were talking about being lost... no. She could have came back in the room when Takato was reading the letter from his mom... no. She came back in the room, just as Calumon started to sing “I was having a yucky day but now WOO HOO I get to play! Other Digimon were so mean, the nastiest you’ve ever seen! .... “ I was SO embarrassed!!! Of all the scenes XD. I do love that scene but when you are trying to convince people it’s deeper than it seems, that’s NOT the scene you want them to see!
I did give Frontier a chance - and several chances since then - But I just can’t get into it. Ironically, “FIRE!!” and “Innocent” by Wada Kouji continue to be my favorite Japanese themes, and hearing them take me right back to the summer of 2002.
I could go on and talk in depth about every single experience I had with Digimon... (And I want to! I already skipped great memories.) But I figure no one wants to hear all that, but here’s the short version of the rest:
I never had a lot of friends, and Digimon made me so many friends. I made a great friend in another state that I would actually buy phone cards and CALL and talk to for hours! Shortly before we lost touch, I made another amazing friend and that friendship lasted 5 years or so. (Though we are still friends, not as close as we used to be.) A year later, I made another friend who is STILL my best friend! I have an amazing artist friend that I used to do art trades with, and I still feel so lucky that this amazing artist wanted to trade with me. :) (And we still are friends!) But in 2009, I met my boyfriend, which we are still together. He had his arm twisted to watch Digimon too. But we started talking and we got together. It’s been 12 years, and I am so happy with him. :) He lives in Germany (I’m in the US) and I’ve flown there to see him 4 times, and he’s flown here many more. Long distance is hard but we make it work, and it’s worth it for us. Never would have happened without Digimon.
So many more memories I feel bad not typing... okay here’s one anyway - I looked all over for a D-Ark when they came out and I only ever saw ONE in a store. THE ONE I BOUGHT!!!! :D. - But I dunno where I’d be without Digimon. I feel weird saying that because it’s “Just a TV show” but... Digimon got me to join message boards and write fan fiction. If I stayed with Pokemon I’m not sure I would have ever gotten into the fandom. I looked at fan sites and stuff with Pokemon but I never got involved. I don’t think that I would have even become an anime fan with Pokemon. - Especially since I didn’t get the WB where I was. I could only see Pokemon on the VHS tapes I bought cheaply at Odd Lots (Later Big Lots), or a local Fox station playing them at 6 AM (Which when I was in Junior High I got up earlier than I had to to watch it...). But watching Digimon on ABC family led to Beyblade, and talking to the friend I called led to Yu-Gi-Oh! (Which I also had to wait until Cartoon Network reran) which led to Megas XLR (I know that was US but it was anime style so that helped) Which led to Adult Swim, and before you know it, I’m an anime fan!
(And for the record since I didn’t mention: I do love Savers/Data Squad and LOVE Applimon! That was SO much better than expected!)
Thanks for the memories Digimon, and all the friends I’ve had along the way. :).

@ssongpyeon This is part 2 of answering your ask! I would reblog my first post but when I do so it removes it from the tags... So yeah...
So. I said I'd give my heavier headcanons. So warning, this could be triggering to some people, because Beyblade is extremely damn dark, and this is only darker. (Triggers in the tags.) They’re headcanons about the show because the manga is another pair of hands.
-I headcanon that Doji is his uncle (his mother's brother), actually. I think Reiji's parents were very busy because they are rich, but not the kind to just sit on their wealth and accumulate more wealth, unlike most ultra-rich people, they actually work, but they have a terrible work/life balance so they often ended up neglecting their child(ren), barely hiring nannies to take care of him (them). Doji, on the other hand, was jealous of his older sister getting most of the money and power (even though he still received plenty of money himself), and that, along with the fact he's an awful person, was what decided him to create the Dark Nebula to get more power. Except at first he didn't know L-Drago existed, so he spent years and years coming up with different schemes and plans to take control. Ryuga became part of his schemes after some time, but their 'collaboration' was still relatively recent. Reiji on the other hand has been a part of this very early on, ever since Doji offered to "take care of him" (when he was ‪around 7-9‬ years-old?), and his parents agreed because they thought it was still better for him to be raised by his uncle than by strangers. (I mean, his mom was dubious at first because she knew her brother, but she assumed he was trying to apologize for their tense relationship.)
Obviously, this was all very wrong.
Doji, indeed, had just cooked up a plan that was a bit more likely to succeed than the others, and he needed a pawn for it to work. Someone naive, someone who would trust him blindly, someone he could bend and break and reshape as he wished. And who better suited for that role than a child who knew nothing of the real world?
Especially a child who already knew about Beyblade, and to whom he wouldn’t have to teach EVERYTHING about how to play. (Even if Doji didn’t yet know about the dark power at the time, he had still noticed how incredible beys could be, and he was able to tell that something could be done with that.)
Indeed, thanks to his connection with his bey, (and also because he would spent a lot of time training on his own, since he didn’t really have anything else to do,) Reiji was already quite a good blader (well, not THAT good but like... Acceptable for a child. And Doji didn’t really have any other choice anyway, so he couldn’t be picky.)
So Doji took him under his wing, and tried to use him without him noticing. After all, why would a child have doubted him?
... Except Doji is the most suspicious person ever, and that Reiji already didn't trust people much, because it seemed very weird to him that someone he didn't know would just take him in and be nice. (I can only imagine that during his childhood, kids hated him because his parents were rich so they assumed he could have anything he wanted, and that if he refused to share, it was because he was mean. It wasn't.)
So anyway Reiji didn't trust Doji, to the point where it made Doji's entire plan fail. Also because it wasn't a solid plan (I mean, have you seen Doji's ideas? Seriously? The man can't think for more than two seconds to save his life. Anyone whose plan is ‘step 1. conquer the world! Step 2. ???‘ can’t think for more than two seconds to save their life.)
The whole failure meant Doji had to find a new plan. And as previously stated, Doji is bad at thinking up ideas.
So Doji kept scheming, but also trying to understand what to do with his nephew (he couldn’t pretend he couldn’t stand him as an excuse to give him back to his parents, since he might have needed him again later on). He also felt that he actually had to gain his trust, otherwise he wouldn’t manage to do anything.
And to do this, he would have to do something. To create Reiji Mizuchi, out of this lonely, quiet, useless kid.
So he staged the kidnapping.
/!\ Alright so I warned there would be some triggering stuff in there. THIS IS IT NOW. If you wish to proceed, it’s at your own risk. /!\
So my headcanon is that Doji... Got random goons to kidnap Reiji, lock him up in one of his mansions for a few months (which would later on become one of the Dark Nebula’s headquarters, where Reiji was obviously not allowed)... And to torture him by putting electrodes on his head and giving him shocks, as they forced him to listen to the same words being said over and over again each time he was shocked —positive words, encouraging words, determined words... In one word... Friendship. Everything about friendship.
Want to make sure someone will never, ever have any friends, who could interfere with your plans and actually save the person you’re manipulating? Make the very concept of friendship hurt them like Hell.
And that’s what Doji did. And that’s why during his battle against Kenta, when Kenta starts talking about winning for his friends, Reiji... Loses it. Starts clutching his head, saying “it hurts, it hurts! It really hurts!!” Why would he be faking this? He is actually hurt. My headcanon (theory?????) is that his mind now associates the words/ideas with being shocked, which is horribly painful, and that this is what makes him freak out, and start going crazy (crazier than he was at least). To disprove this theory, you may say that he wasn’t hurt because of Kenta’s words, but because Kenta was about to beat him. To which I say no. Because otherwise, he would have similarly freaked out during his fight against Gingka. And he didn’t. He was extremely scared, but not hurt. He didn’t, as Doji put it, “have to use his true power”. (Sorry if my retranscription of what they said in the episodes is approximative, I’m relying on my memory and while I basically know the French version by heart, I don’t know the English one as well.)
Soooooo there you have it. But that’s not over. After the torture, when Doji deemed he was “ready”, he showed up at the mansion with three or four other goons disguised as cops who “arrested” the “bad guys” in front of Reiji’s eyes. In other words, Doji pretended that someone else had kidnapped him, but that he had been looking for him the whole time and that now he had finally found him, everything would be okay.
All of this to both earn Reiji’s trust, make sure that he would not make any friends (who could have proved to Reiji that Doji was evil), and even give him a good reason to make Reiji stay put (his excuse for basically locking him up in his bedroom being “so it’s easier to protect you”).
It was also a way to encourage him to become a better blader, “so you can protect yourself”.
So that’s what Doji did, keep Reiji alone in his bedroom, slowly becoming crazier and even more brainwashed as everything he had access to was controlled by Doji, everything he was told was said by Doji, everything he could watch on TV (to analyze other bladers’ moves and both learn from their techniques, and learn to hate them since unlike him, they never had to suffer) was recorded and put there by Doji...
And that’s how Doji created the perfect little monster, the perfect little puppet.
Later on, when he learned about the dark power, and learned the Hagane family was the one in charge of protecting it, all Doji had to do was to tell Reiji that hey, after years of searching for the one behind your terrible-horrible-awful tragedy, we finally found him, and his name is Ryo Hagane.
Which makes Reiji want revenge upon him. And what better revenge, whispers Doji after he realizes that Ryo was less of a threat than he thought and Gingka is the one to watch out for, than completely destroying Ryo’s most precious possession? No, not his bey, though it would kill two birds with one stone... But his darling, darling son. Annihilated, right in front of his eyes, as he watches helplessly. He pretends to be dead, that traitor, but we know it’s not true. He is merely hiding, hiding from his sins, so his crimes will remain unpunished. But he made a mistake. He didn’t realize that you — the one he broke, the one he hurt, the one he tortured without an ounce of pity — would be better than them all. Would not be weak. Would be powerful enough to avenge yourself. So go, my child.
Avenge yourself.
—> Okay so I... Went a bit off-course... But you get the idea. There you go. That’s... My main theory about Reiji’s past.
So yeah, I definitely agree with you about Reiji actually being the key element of at least one of Doji's ideas. Which made him, yes, Doji’s plan B should plan A (using Ryuga to get L-drago's power) fail.
-Though, I mean, I do have another theory. It’s a bit less comprehensive, but I think it’s interesting nonetheless.
It once again mostly focuses on Kenta and Reiji’s fight in episode 44 because that scene of Reiji freaking the hell out lives in my head rent-free. And it doesn’t just live in my head rent-free (I mean, all of Reiji’s scenes live in my head rent-free, it’s nothing special). But this one... This one has a fucking castle in my head, with twelve swimming pools and three parks. This one has underwear made of gold and a crown made of cheese. Hot digitty dang darnit.
It’s about Reiji’s snake eyes.
Tumblr media
See, usually, his snake eyes are like this. You probably already know it.
HOWEVER, when he starts screaming about being in pain, as you may have noticed, his snake eyes become like THIS.
Tumblr media
It’s not a mistake, as they stay like that the whole scene, starting when he starts hurting and ending only when Gingka interrupts the fight. It’s on PURPOSE.
So we have two options. Either you are a normal person, so you say “oh, this is symbolic”.
Either you are a completely deranged madman, and you go “well OBVIOUSLY it means Reiji’s snake eyes are devices given to him by Doji, and that have been made to electrocute him so he’ll go on a rampage whenever they are activated because he doesn’t understand where the pain is coming from and mistakenly assumes it’s caused by his opponent, when really it’s just Doji pressing a button”. And, since during Gingka and Reiji’s fight, Doji wasn’t there because he was fighting Ryo... It makes sense that he couldn’t have harmed Reiji.
Okay. I don’t actually believe this theory/headcanon. Or rather I don’t really like it because I prefer my other one. (Not that I actually believe in any of my headcanons, I just think they’re neat.) But the snake eyes are looking at me and the explanation ‘it’s symbolism’ only half satisfies me.
Alright... So that was it for my theories... The rest of my headcanons are more ‘tame’... And just, logical... It’s just what happens after Battle Bladers.
-he’s still kind of scared of Gingka (he’s very prone to nightmares) but it’s getting better
-obviously most of his nightmares are rather about the Dark Nebula...
-he also doesn’t like televisions for obvious reasons.
-he still likes Beyblade because he likes his bey, but he doesn’t actually fight anymore, at least for a while. But he may start again in the future.
-sometimes in my “after Battle Bladers” AUs I headcanon that someone who was outraged by his treatment of Hyoma and Kenta destroys his bey, while he is busy going through the trauma of having just lost, and a bit of dissociation as he realizes that 1) if we go with my first headcanon/theory, he sees he could not avenge himself; but most of all 2) he is not the strongest so he is actually vulnerable and can be hurt at any moment. (This being represented by him turning to stone.) The trauma is obviously even worse when he sees his bey is destroyed. (Okay this is sad so uh... Let’s say it makes him realize destroying beys is awful, no matter the reason... So Gingka and his friends forgive him... And Madoka fixes his bey... Yeah LET’S GO WITH THAT.)
-the person he hates the most is Doji (don’t we all)
-ever since he understood Doji lied to him for about half of his life, he has trust issues... It slowly gets better as he meets kinder people, but it’s still something he has to fight.

Quick intro to personalities I guess bc why not:
+ color assignments for conversations posts from here on out
Keiko: cheery, energetic, etc.. child alter. Tends to infodump about her hyperfixations. Low empathy just like the rest of us but actually tries to be nice. Likes to dress us up in all this super kawaii fashion, which I LOVE but some of the other alters,,,not so much. Is the one who spends our money on cosplay wigs. Always terrified of being annoying because she talks so much. (Unknown age but definitely a kid)
Miyuki: Acts caring and responsible. Is actually very stressed and numb. Success oriented and nihilistic at the same time but not as much as Jokul. Weirdly loyal??? Gatekeeper. The rule-enforcer of the system, mostly because she's the only one we all trust to be unbiased, I think. Probably does not feel fear. (27-ish?? Potentially ageless)
Yahto: Hi there it's me. Evil lol (joking). But I definitely like the evil aesthetic. Kind of known as the one with Problems TM and toxic behaviors, which I hate, but I admit I probably perpetuate this legend more than any of the others. I think I'm the one who actually has to deal with the problems, like everyone else just sort of deflects them to me so they don't have to feel all this. I like to get in fights. (18)
Jezebeth (Jez): More jokingly evil than I am. Irl very sweet and would not hurt anyone, but likes to act very...I don't know how to describe it without using the misinterpretation of "psychopath"...for fun and shock value. Constantly So Bored. (16)
Jokul: The actually scary one except he's only mean to me :/ (and occasionally the other alters but that's rare.) Persecutor, but lately not really I guess. Perhaps has realized that doesn't help, and that he has to bring us AWAY from the edge, not try to push us over it, if he wants us to live, which is debatable in the first place. Almost everything he does seems to be motivated by either boredom or wanting to be worshipped/seen as perfect. Also the memory holder, supposedly (not sure I believe him). (27)
Gracelynn: The shy one. Tries her best to be very sweet even when she Does Not Understand. Spends all her time either reading, writing, or daydreaming. High-key obsessed with the Chronicles of Amber. If you want to talk to someone who is simultaneously very good at comforting people and will take forever to respond, she's is your girl. (Better to talk to me or Miyuki tbh) Social Anxiety TM, but I may be the most anxious overall at this point. (15)
Rachel/Ryo: The newest alter. Most of us can't remember what order we developed in, so we all just guess roughly the same time. But they showed up like a year ago. The most down to earth and normal-seeming one, but honestly I don't know THAT much about them. Oddly showed up mostly when we were in such a State over something that happened that they kind of just,,,did the human interaction and Functioning TM for us. (23)
(The weird thing about trying to give us all different colors of text, is that we already have colors we associate with ourselves, but they're all shades of blue.)
(Ages - in parentheses at end of each - are basically estimated mental age/how we see ourselves, the body is 19)

Hello! Loved Reconfiguration, you really crafted a beautiful story. I was wondering; what is Ryo feeling after the encounter at the airport? You wrote how he had a certain "look" ever since the spirit of the ring passed on. He was also quick to refute Otogi's comment about the spirit being a demon. Was he perhaps a bit envious of Atem's relationship with Yuugi?
Ahhh, what a lovely question, thank you. And it’s… It’s not an easy answer, honestly. The general response I would give, though, is ‘regretful’. It’s not that Bakura wanted a relationship with the Ring Spirit similar to Atem and Yuugi’s, but more that he felt sympathy for him. He still might have stood against him himself and faced him as an enemy again if it really came down to the spirit vs his friends, but Bakura had had enough insight into the Ring Spirit (that is, the thief king, not the Zorc factor) to know why he was the way he was, and like myself and I’m sure many of the readers, Bakura wished things could have been better for him. That he hadn’t been brought to such a state. Despite everything he did to him personally, Bakura saw the spirit as both victim and villain, and thought he was only becoming more of a victim by giving in to his own villainy. He didn’t want to see that.
It’s an odd relationship, but I believe that Bakura is such a sweet soul that he could pity even the spirit that terrorized him and endangered his friends, if he just had the chance to understand his perspective. And while I could not give the thief king a happy ending in Reconfiguration, beyond peace and a reclaimed autonomy, I at least wanted someone to understand him, and Bakura seemed like the natural choice.
So, Bakura in the ending is mourning the spirit, not out of personal grief, but out of a sense of humanity, and regret for the lost chance to perhaps be something better to each other. Mourning the opportunity at a friend. Mourning everything that spirit and his people endured and lost. In the final scene he, like the others, is certainly focused on Atem and joyful at his decision to stay, but he hasn’t forgotten the spirit, either, and he will certainly think of him in the future. And, even as he processes what the spirit put him through all those years, Bakura would still make an effort to honor the memory of the spirit and Kul Elna.
