And based on my recent posts and notes...y'all wanna strike huh?

Well since you insist on not doing it without formal organizing, can I ask if you've heard about the IWW and if you have, have you joined it?

"By age, workers ages 45 to 54 had the highest union membership rate in 2022, at 12.6 percent. Younger workers—those ages 16 to 24—had the lowest union membership rate, at 4.4 percent.

In 2022, the union membership rate for full-time workers (11.0 percent) was double than that for part- time workers (5.5 percent)."

I'll take that statistic from the BLS file on Unions as a 'probably not' since I don't have many older people following me.

Well, joining this union can provide you with all the formality and organization you'll need to get started and without compromising your say as an individual worker.

TLDR: Anyone, yes even if you're unemployed, can join as long as you have at least $6/mo and aren't a manager. No union bosses either. The idea is that it's One Big Union. Meaning it's strength lies in it's solidarity from unifying workers across All types of employment.

It's just a matter of finding your local union and they will help you with the rest.

Worried you might stand out?

In 2021, 14 million U.S. workers - or about 10.3 percent of the American workforce - were members of a union.

That's 1 in every 10 workers. And

In 2022, 16 million wage and salary workers were represented by a union[...]" (Bureau of Labor Statistics Union2.pdf).

You quite literally will be just be one of the tens of thousands joining a union everyday.

Social scientist Damon Centola's new research shows a cascade of change is triggered when 25% of a population embraces an idea.

Minority views of what is acceptable quickly become majority views. Historically, majority- rules economic thinking assumed change happened when 51% of a population wanted it. But in 1977, Harvard University's Rosabeth Moss Kanter studied tokenism in the workplace. She found that women as small minorities were subject to an oppressive culture of discrimination and harassment. But when women occupied 20%-35% of leadership roles, work culture shifted.

Centola's 2018 small-group experiments show how sensitive the tipping point is. Sometimes adding just a single person to the committed minority meant hitting 25%-and the transition from failure to success. Varying numbers of activists were planted into groups in 10 trials.

So if 10% are already unionized then we're halfway there... in a way.

Why join a union?

It's largest tool is collective bargaining, that's why organized strikes work better, it guarantees you have people supporting you. Using numbers helps enforce demands and rights be met.

We know unions work because they gave us all these things already.

So like... Yeah..

Join a union. Even if it's not IWW. Join one.

Sorry didn't want to crowd that post about Groundhogs, but I recently read a paper about groundhog day and how American groundhogs are more a hodgepodge of unreliability. There is not one Master Groundhog, and it's clear some of these groundhogs are clearly slacking (I jest!)

Famous American groundhog Punxsutawney Phil (from the OG Pennsylvania) has only a 30-40% accuracy rate depending on how long ago you measure. And only a handful of groundhogs (out of 41) are above 50%

Staten Island Chuck and Chuckles (from Connecitcut) are the most consistently accurate groundhogs at 60% with Sir Walter Wally ranks about 58% HOWEVER all 3 are massively outshined by Beardsley Bart (pairie dog) and Sand Mountain Sam (oppossum) at 78% and 75% respectively (José Luiz Martiéz, CT Mirror 2022) Now this gets into "how do you measure if a guess is right" territory for these exact numbers so some of this is all over the place. Wiarton Willie gets reported as having a 25% accuracy rate a 39% accuracy rate (Canadian Encyclopedia) or a 54% accuracy rate (Ross et al 2021)

But the MOST ACCURATE GROUNDHOG is by far the Canadian Oil Springs Ollie with an 83% accuracy rating. The worst is Buckeye Chuck with a 10% accuracy rating who, out of the last 15 or so predictions, was wrong about 14 of them While there was no significant relationship between latitude and correctness when measured, a big problem is that groundhogs actually emerge in March, not Febuary and at least in Canada that means groundhogs have to be woken up to predict the weather or else they live in a zoo and are not out there in nature reporting from the field

It is unlikely any more scientific evaluation of the accuracy of animal meteorologists will be conducted with hard rigour, but it would be fun to see! I hope these Fun Facts were interesting!

'I'm in Love with the Villainess' English Audiobook Announced

On Friday, Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it is publishing an audiobook version of Inori's isekai Yuri romance I'm in Love with the Villainess (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou). The first volume (6 hours and 54 minutes )will be released on November 16, 2023, and the second (10 hours and 45 minutes) on December 7.

Seven Seas is releasing the audiobook under its recently announced audiobook imprint, Siren. It is narrated by voice actress Courtney Shaw (Maesetsu! Opening Act). It will be sold digitally on major platforms, including Audible, audiobook.com, BookWalker, Chrip, Kobo, Overdrive, and Nook.

Seven Seas Entertainment licenses all five volumes of the light novels in English. They follow office worker Oohashi Rei, who wakes up as Rae Taylor, the protagonist of her favorite otome game, Revolution. However, Rae is not interested in any of the game world's eligible bachelors, only having eyes for Claire Francois - the antagonist! And Rae is determined to save Claire from her destined fate.

Inori began publishing the series as a webnovel on Shousetsuka ni Naro in early 2018. GL Bunko licensed the light novels digitally in Japan and published the first volume in 2019. Hanagata draws the illustrations for the light novel. In 2021, Ichijinsha began publishing the light novels in paperback.

I'm in Love with the Villainess gained popularity in several overseas markets, including Korea and America. Critics and audiences praise it for its focus on LGBTQ+ themes, characters, world-building, and story.

A manga adaptation of I'm in Love with the Villainess began serialization in Comic Yuri Hime in June 2020. Ichijinsha publishes six collected volumes of the manga in Japanese. Inori also launched a spin-off, She's so Cheeky for a Commoner (Heimin no Kuse ni Namaikina!), which retells the the series from Claire's point of view. Gl Bunko licensed the spin-off in Japan.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensees both the I'm in Love with the Villainess manga adaptations and the She's so Cheeky for a Commoner spin-off in English. It will release volume five of the manga on October 24 (October 12 digitally) and volume 2 of the spin-off light novel on April 9, 2024.

I'm in Love with the Villainess is also inspiring a television anime adaptation. Hideaki Oba directs the anime at Platinum Vision. It premieres on October 2 and will stream internationally on Crunchyroll.

The Mighty Nein are fleeing from Trent Ikithon. Some of them are in the Happy Fun Ball. Others of them are in what would turn out to be Planerider Ryn’s hangout in the Fire Plane.

Jester reads Ryn’s journal, and Matt says:

“…maps of the cosmic planes…pontification on an imbalance between them…” (01:09:13)

“The theories on a pattern of change begin to peak through in some of the notes. A slow shift in the structure between the planes, and a possible sudden shift in the cosmic tapestry down the road. And you can see a lot of these notes, there’s a combination of worry and excitement gleaned from them. This person is just pontificating about possible cosmic events down the road that could be catastrophic or very exciting and unique, remaking of the cosmos. But they’re all theories.” (01:10:00)

Then a huge awful fight and a lot of other things happen and two hours later, Caleb reads the journal and gets:

“Possible change that could spell disaster or balance, who knows?” (03:02:22)

“There’s some sort of something strange and you do pick up some of the odd reading that alludes, as they note, “I continue to find an aberration in my data pertaining to Exandria. A cyclical, months long, slow surge in low-level magical interference that then recedes just as slowly. Something that tangles my readings and upsets my analysis. It is too faint to identify the arcane nature at source, but I worry if this pertains to the shifting between the veils…” But these are just the musings of an individual.” (03:02:27)

And then, in C3E43, Ryn herself shows up and says:

“I’ve discovered some strange inconsistencies in the way the energies have been moving, the leylines, the magical powers that guide the patterns of energies across Exandria and through the different realms that overlap. This movement seemed to be incorporating with bursts of energy, that over time, the patterns seemed to coincide with these recurring flares of the moon Ruidus.” (02:54:30)

Women’s sports is not a retirement plan for old men

A 50-year-old trans-identified male runner has seized his eighth championship title in a women’s category after smashing the competition at the Italian Indoor Masters Championship in Ancona.

On March 12, Valentina Petrillo, born Fabrizio, competed in the 200m race for women aged 50 to 54. Marco Alciator, a statistician, was present at the championship to monitor Petrillo’s performance and provided a report to the Italian Feminist Post on what he witnessed.

Alciator recorded that that a difference in “physicality [was] immediately noticeable,” and that the female competitors were unable to hold their own against Petrillo, who effortlessly dominated the competition.

But Petrillo’s prowess in women’s athletic competitions is hardly praiseworthy, says Alciator, who notes that if Petrillo had been competing in the equivalent men’s race, he wouldn’t have even broken the top 10.

“Were it not for the fact that Petrillo is still unbelievably entitled to compete in the women’s category, he would have finished 14th place in the M50 category.”

Following Petrillo’s victory, the female athlete who came in second place expressed that she felt disappointed in the results. Cristina Sanulli would have come in first place, and set a women’s indoor running record, if not for Petrillo.

“We do not feel equal, precisely because [Petrillo’s] physical structure is male,” Sanulli said to Alciator. “So we are not running at par. Although the [personal] path Valentina has taken is respectable… athletically speaking it is not, and because of this we feel very discriminated against.”

At the end of the race, a spectator could be heard shouting, “Brava, Cristina!” a cheer that received applause from other athletes. This show of support for Sanulli enraged Petrillo, Alciator says, who then shouted several times in response: “Dedicated to all those who want to hurt me!”

Leading up to the latest race, a women’s rights advocacy group called RadFem Italia contacted government officials to ensure that Petrillo would not be granted access to the women’s locker rooms. In response, Petrillo was provided with a designated changing room reserved especially for him at the Italian Masters Championships in Ancona.

On March 16, Petrillo again lashed out in a Facebook post wherein he equated criticism of his presence in women’s sports to Nazism, telling detractors they were “on the same level as Hitler,” and comparing sex-based sports categories to a 1936 ban on Jewish athletes.

Upset at being denied the use of the women’s locker room, Petrillo wrote, “In Ancona, you made me have a terrible time, it is not fair… you’ve relegated me to a ‘dedicated’ locker room,” a situation which he claimed was similar to the segregation of those called appestati, or sufferers of a plague.

A number of female athletes and professional experts have been highlighting concerns about Petrillo’s participation in the women’s category. At the Master’s Athletics Championships in Arezzo in October 2020,

Petrillo outpaced Sanulli and Denise Neumann, both of whom had previously won world and European Masters titles and have been regarded as the best in their events.

The athletes took the podium with Petrillo at the time to avoid becoming embroiled in controversy, but later stated that they felt that Petrillo had an unfair advantage.

“I didn’t feel like I competed as an equal. It was my race, my goal for the season. I had been preparing it for a long time and I wanted to win,” Sanulli said at the time.

Sanulli and Neumann were among more than 30 female Master athletes who signed a petition in 2021 opposing men being permitted to identify into women’s sports.

The women were represented by Italian lawyer and athletics champion Mariuccia Fausta Quilleri, who claimed that the admission of male athletes in women’s competitions constitutes a violation of Article 1 of the Code of Equal Opportunities between Men and Women. The petition was sent to the president of the Italian Athletics Federation, Stefano Mei, the Minister for Equal Opportunities, Elena Bonetti, and the undersecretary of state for sport, Valentina Vezzali. According to RadFem Italia, their efforts were not acknowledged by the government officials.

Petrillo currently holds 8 women’s running championship titles, but failed to earn even one while competing as a male. In January 2019, Petrillo changed his name to Valentina and began taking estrogen. The following year, he began competing against female athletes and has since broken multiple Italian women’s running records.

Petrillo has been diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a disorder of the eye that causes retinal degeneration over time. Due to this visual impairment, he has been permitted to compete in both matches designated for women with disabilities, as well as those which are not.

In September 2020, Petrillo raced in the women’s 100-, 200- and 400-meter competitions at the Italian Paralympic Athletics Championships in Jesolo, despite having not undergone the procedure euphemistically labeled sex reassignment surgery.

Additionally, Petrillo had not altered his identification documents, which still listed his sex as male, though this did not deter him from being granted permission to enter the match. He won first place in all three races and therefore qualified to represent Italy at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

At the last minute, however, the Italian government intervened and barred Petrillo from competing against women with disabilities at the Paralympics in 2021. The International Olympics Committee (IOC) had just announced updates to guidelines for trans-identifying competitors stating that male athletes must keep the levels of their testosterone below 10 nanomoles per liter for at least 12 months in order to participate.

After being awarded three gold medals at the Paralympics qualifiers, Petrillo dedicated his victory to Bologna-based trans activist organization Gruppo Trans APS, headed by a trans-identifying male named Milena Bargiacchi.

“I dedicated to them my victory in my favorite race,” Petrillo told OutSports. “Gruppo Trans supported me in my darkest hour, and they helped me find the answers I needed when I was questioning my identity and my life.”

Gruppo Trans’ website has a section dedicated to outreach for crossdressers, where counseling and Zoom sessions are offered. The point of contact is a man called Charlotte Verniani, who runs a lingerie and sex shop and engages in a fetish practice called “female masking,” a sexual activity which involves men donning a silicone “female” face mask, or, on occasion, a full-body silicone “woman suit.”

Speaking about his history with the BBC in June 2021, Petrillo said: “Until four years ago, if you’d talked to Fabrizio (the name Petrillo was given at birth), Fabrizio would have given you the idea he was sexist. He was a tough guy who’d speak dismissively of women and then be a woman in his private space.”

Petrillo has stated that he used to “try on his mother’s clothes” when he was younger, a behavior that until recently was considered a symptom of a sexual disorder known as transvestic fetishism. He has also said that prior to declaring a transgender identity, Petrillo would steal his wife’s clothing. While describing a memory of “touching” his mother’s skirt for the first time, Petrillo said, “It was an incredible emotion. It was like touching heaven with your finger tip.”

Gruppo Trans lobbies for males to be allowed to compete in women’s sports, and runs a program called QueerFit, a fitness course that offers “genderless changing rooms” and guarantees “privacy” of participants by allowing them to join using an alias.

The organization frequently employs Petrillo as a representative, and he has spoken for Gruppo Trans on several occasions. Gruppo Trans is backing a documentary film about Petrillo’s life called “5 Nanomoles – The Olympic Dream of a Trans Woman.” The title is a reference to the maximum testosterone limit set by World Athletics in 2019 for trans-identifying males in order for them to be eligible to compete against women.

In addition to partnering with Petrillo to campaign for males in women’s athletics events, Gruppo Trans also discusses “trans adolescents” and offers a variety of “training” programs through their website. Corporate diversity management training, courses for health care workers, and gender identity workshops for teachers are all available, as are lessons for children intended to be provided by instructors at schools.

Ship Stats for Azula (Updated)

Back in September, taking inspiration from @phantomstatistician I did an in depth survey on who Azula is shipped with on AO3. It was all based on curiosity regarding how Azula ship works have evolved over time. Back then, I said I’d give an update in January, and now that time is finally here.

Here are the finalized 2022 ship stats for Azula.

Methods

On January 1, 2023, I took a survey of works on AO3 for 35 Azula ships from 01/01/2013 to 12/31/2022. This includes ships unintentionally omitted from the previous survey as well as new ships added since September.

Data

This chart is for the totals of the sample surveyed. And the other is a table of the chart’s raw numbers.

This is the chart of the total Azula ship fics broken down by year. It included the top 10 ships (tyzula, Sokkla, Azutara, zucest, Azulaang, Maizula, Ozula, Tophzula, Yuezula, and Azuki)

And here’s the table for the both the 10 ships in the chart, as well as one showing all 35 ships in the sample

Then there’s this chart that shows the year to year output of works rather than the total. It features the same 10 ships as the previous chart.

Observations

Total sample of works by year

Before 2020, the growth of the sample never exceeded 150 works

2021 and 2020 are the years where the most Azula ship works were added

2022 is on track to be either the third most productive year

Since September, over 100 works were added

2022 saw five new Azula ships added to AO3: Azula/Kyoshi, Azula/Lian the Maker, Azula/Long Feng, Azula/Michi, and Azula/Yaling

Cumulative count by year

in terms of total fic count, tyzula has consistently remained the Azula ship with the most works.

zucest was tied with Tophzula for second place in 2013. Then zucest became the sole holder of second place from 2014 to 2017. In 2018, Sokkla took second and has held onto it since then

Sokkla was in fourth place in 2013, then tied with Tophzula for third. Sokkla became the sole holder of third place from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, when Sokkla took second place, zucest took third place. Zucest held onto third place from 2018 to 2021, but for Azutara took third place for 2022

Annual output by year

In 2020, a majority of Azula ship works were tyzula (54%). This is something had never happened before or since.

Back in September, tyzula’s output by percentage for 2022 appeared to be 29%, but the final result for 2022 was 28%. Either way, that’s the lowest it’s ever been

The Azula ships with the second and third highest output of works for 2022 are Azutara and Zucest

Despite not being shown in the chart, Jetzula’s 2022 output ranks higher than Tophzula, Azuki, Ozula and Jinzula.

Despite Azulaang’s 2022 output by percentage surpassing its 2021 output by percentage, by raw numbers, 2021 was greater (90 works to 2022’s 77 works)

Several ships saw a greater number of works added in 2022 than 2021: Jetzula, Jinzula, Junezula, Azutara, Kueizula, Maizula, Azula/Ursa, Yuezula, Azula/Zirin and zucest

Other observations

Most years, the annual output of F/F Azula works to M/F Azula works is around 60% F/F to 40% M/F. 2022 continues this tradition

The exceptions are 2015 (72% F/F to 28% M/F), 2017 (52% F/F to 48% M/F) and 2020 (75% F/F and 25% M/F)

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were totally in love — and couldn't help but show it — on their latest red carpet date night.

On Friday, May 10, the Voice alums stepped out for the 27th annual Keep Memory Alive Power of Love Gala, where Shelton was the evening's honoree.

The pair, who've been married since 2021, stopped red carpet traffic inside the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

Stefani, 54, had all eyes on her in a long-sleeved silver mini-dress. The form-fitting and sheer garment was covered in crystals and had a lace underlay. Her textured details elevated her date night look.

The “Don’t Speak” singer also donned a pair of shimmery stiletto-heel leggings with crystals that decorated her legs and added shine to her shoes.

For her glam, Stefani’s signature blonde hair was sleek and parted to the side, made complete with her signature red lip.

Shelton, 47, let his wife have the spotlight for the evening, opting for a muted, but classic look. The country singer posed for pictures in a black collared, button-down shirt with a black jacket.

He paired his look with denim jeans and brown shoes.

The gala, which raises funds for brain health research and care at Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, also had a lineup of stellar performances by Jay Allen, Colbie Caillat, Kristin Chenoweth, Andy Grammer, Mickey Guyton, Gary LeVox and Cassadee Pope, winner of season 3 of The Voice and Shelton’s former trainee.

SURVEY RESULTS!!

So!! It's that time, folks! By the time this posts, the survey will have formally been closed. Thank you so, so much to the 65 participants. I never expected to get so many responses, and I owe the Warframe community big-time.

I am planning on eventually releasing platform-specific data as I compile it, alongside any other neat correlations I spot. I did this mostly for fun- the assignment's bar was low, but I took it pretty far because I enjoyed it- so I'm not a professional or anything at statistics! There will likely be inaccuracies, and I may occasionally miss data on accident.

So! This post is dedicated to sharing the data from all platforms. The data of everyone who participated is represented under the cut.

A majority of people played often, but not every day, with 27 out of 64 people (42%) giving a 4 out of 5 on how often they feel they play.

The average score for the entirety of the surveyed group was 3.3.

Squad Size

Most Tenno tended to play publicly, with 40% of you reporting so. Behind that, 31% reported playing by themselves typically. The more players involved, the lower the percentage of people who typically played with that amount of squadmates, with 17%, 8%, and 5% rates for squads of two, three, and four respectively.

Mastery Rank

The most common MR among surveyed players was MR 18, Gold Eagle, followed by MR 20, Silver Tiger.

7 players were below MR 10

25 players were at or between MR 10 and MR 19

24 players were between MR 20 and MR 30

9 players were of Legendary Rank (MR 31 to MR 33)

The average mastery rank of all surveyed players is MR 20.

Premium Currency

45 people (69%, nice) have bought Platinum at least once

12 people (19%) have bought both Platinum and Regal Aya at least once

8 people (12%) have never bought Platinum or Regal Aya.

Tennogen Cosmetics

Of the 63 responses...

39 (62%) people have purchased Tennogen content

24 (38%) people have not purchased Tennogen content.

Of the 65 people surveyed...

Starter Warframe

Excalibur and Volt were the most popular, at 22 people (or 34%) choosing them as their first Warframe. Mag came in at 18 people (or 27%) having chose her as their first Warframe, and Loki in last place, with 2 people having chose him as their first Warframe.

(Side note, someone answered Nezha as their first Warframe?? Pop off, you mad lad, I guess?)

Warframe In Relation to Player's Gender

A Warframe's gender presentation was primarily irrelevant to players in relation to their own gender presentation. Non-binary and feminine-presenting people were more likely to prefer one gender presentation over the other, with both groups preferring feminine-presenting Warframes.

While the majority of masculine-presenting people reported an indifference to their Warframe's gender presentation, they tended to prefer masculine Warframes over feminine or androgynous Warframes.
