I feel like fic recs tend to be things that are complete, so I thought I'd rec some things that haven't been updated in a while (>a year) or abandoned, but I still like to go back and reread

-barry meeting len out of costume because he's running away from Iris is a hilarious set up, and he kind of deserves it

-a classic fake dating au, trying to figure out how a blueberry coffee could taste good has been a question that has followed me for years.

-I always need more fics dealing with the loss of Henry tbh, and this is a really good exploration of grief.

-a classic deaging fic, len is heartbreakingly cute

-len doesn't go on the waverider after running to stand still. Barry's kind of a mess here, tbh?

-it's post Len and mick's legends trip, and they're helping out team flash. there's a truth spell involved. It's a classic trope. (also there's this bit where mick's reading Frankenstein and he calls creature victor's kid, and that's such a mood, my gothic fiction class spent like an hour talking about his daddy issues once)

Incomplete collection of Marius lore
suggestions for additions are welcome, but it MUST HAVE A SOURCE
overview
He is the ship’s medic[1]/ship’s doctor[3], plays fiddle and has a mechanised right arm[1].
backstory
He is neither a baron nor a doctor[3][5]; ‘Baron’ is a corruption of his original name, Byron von Raum[2][5].
Marius has a sister called Dorothea, and they were raised by a single nonbinary parent. Marius doesn’t remember their name or face, and knows them only as Zeze[6].
It is strongly implied that Marius was not mechanised by Dr Carmilla [7].
Marius is 5’5 and very skinny. This is apparently because he came from a world that is ‘somewhat medieval in its nutrition levels’ and Marius was not a healthy child. [14]
He piloted a mecha called KISMET. She was 5-6 storeys tall and slightly insectoid, like a dragonfly or butterfly. [17]
‘The control pod’s entirely in the head, which allows the internal control rig to right itself like a ball bearing, keeping the pilot upright whether she’s standing on the ground, hovering, flying horizontally, banking sharply or even rolling.’ [17]
The mecha is not meelee-oriented. [17]

Drumbot Brian said that ‘given that we're immortal and don't need a doctor, it's the job we're most comfortable giving Marius, and it keeps him busy’ and also that he ‘frequently tries to psychoanalyze inanimate objects’ [5]
His mechanism was ‘probably botched’ and he has a ‘tenuous grasp on reality’[2]
According to Jonny, he grew a beard presumably around 08/02/2014 ‘almost instantaneously, and without warning’ and was apparently ‘very upset’ and ‘said he’d been holding it in for decades and just that momentary lapse of concentration as I kneecapped him had ruined all his hard work’[8]
He once dressed up as the Toy Soldier for a halloween concert [9]
Drumbot Brian once responded to someone asking how the mechanisms were by describing marius as ‘mad’[10]
The Aurora describes Marius as ‘the broken doctor’ [16]

He had a planned lecture on the psyche of the olympians, but this was cancelled[11]
He helped Ashes install at a minimum the camera in Ulysses’ vault in UDAD, though he does not remember this[4]
Apparently, ‘Marius spent his time on Fort Galfridian sitting at the porthole for days staring into the sun because he didn't realise it was supposed to be unbearable, and now the Ghouls think he's some sort of prophet’ [12]
In The Bifrost Incident, Marius does not know where he got the violin - in fact, he doesn’t even realise he’s holding it until Lyf points it out [15]

Marius was always skeptical of the crew’s immortality and was less surprised to meet his end. ‘One day, at something of a loose end, he will decide to check on the octokittens. Unfortunately, the purring horde has not been fed in many decades, and devours him, head to toe, in 11.7 seconds.’ [13]
Jonny is implied to have already witnessed Marius’ death before the final concert; he says ‘11.7 seconds. At least, by my watch.’ [13]
In Marius’ death, tunes from ‘Blood and Whiskey’ and ‘Favoured Son’ can be heard [13].

This art, despite being a preview for the colored pages of the Legendary Edition, does not appear to be in the English version. I have not been able to find out if the Japanese version or any other edition has more color pages.

It all starts when you and your friends are kicked out of your shared apartment, causing you to ask your childhood best friend (and idol) for help, which leads you to live with him and the other members of his kpop group. From there on, you completely enter the world of kpop, creating the best friendships you could ask for, and, as if working with kdramas wasn't enough, your life ends up becoming the best example of one with each passing moment. and your best friends are the main spectators and commentators of all the drama that has surrounded your life since it all began.

With a new prompt every day, make a piece of fan content of your choice. You can draw some art, write fic, make a playlist, rant about something, or whatever you vibe with!

This is my attempt at taking the best of the past years and bringing something for everyone.
What I've come up with are three levels of abstraction that (hopefully) serve as different levels of difficulty. The first week-ish draws more from 2019's style, and the last couple weeks are the more recent style, with the middle being a segue between them.
(i kinda struggled to make questions, but you're welcome to use the prompts as keywords for your own!)

A reminder that you don’t have to commit to every day. Take care of yourself. You can make it more manageable by skipping days.
It’s also okay to alter the prompt slightly for grammatical purposes, if you so wish (e.g. growth –> growing) or to cut out irrelevant words (e.g. animal or monster -> animal). Feel free to interpret the prompts as metaphorically or as literally as you want!

Private equity finally delivered Sarah Palin's death panels

Remember “death panels”? Sarah Palin promised us that universal healthcare was a prelude to a Stalinist nightmare in which unaccountable bureaucrats decided who lived or died based on a cost-benefit analysis of what it would cost to keep you alive versus how much your life was worth.

Palin was right that any kind of healthcare rationing runs the risk of this kind of calculus, where we weight spending $10,000 to extend a young, healthy person’s life by 40 years against $1,000 to extend an elderly, disabled person’s life by a mere two years.
It’s a ghastly, nightmarish prospect — as anyone who uses the private healthcare system knows very well. More than 27m Americans have no health insurance, and millions more have been tricked into buying scam “cost-sharing” systems run by evangelical grifters:

The private healthcare sector is designed to deny care. Its first duty is to its shareholders, not its patients, and every dollar spent on care is a dollar not available for dividends. The ideal insurance customer pays their premiums without complaint, and then pays cash for all their care on top of it.
All that was true even before private equity started buying up and merging whole swathes of the US healthcare system (or “healthcare” “system”). The PE playbook — slash wages, sell off physical plant, slash wages, reduce quality and raise prices — works in part because of its scale. These aren’t the usual economies of scale. Rather the PE strategy is to buy and merge all the similar businesses in a region, so customers, suppliers and workers have nowhere else to turn.
That’s bad enough when it’s aimed at funeral homes, pet groomers or any of the other sectors that have been bigfooted by PE:

And if you think that’s a capitalist hellscape nightmare, just imagine how PE deals with dying, elderly people. Yes, PE has transformed the hospice industry, and it’s even worse than you imagine.
Yesterday, the Center for Economic and Policy Research published “Preying on the Dying: Private Equity Gets Rich in Hospice Care,” written by some of the nation’s most valiant PE slayers: Eileen Appelbaum, Rosemary Batt and Emma Curchin:

Medicare pays private hospices $203-$1,462 per day to take care of dying old people — seniors that a doctor has certified to have less than six months left. That comes to $22.4b/year in public transfers to private hospices. If hospices that $1,462 day-rate, they have lots of duties, like providing eight hours’ worth of home care. But if the hospice is content to take the $203/day rate, they are not required to do anything. Literally. It’s just free money for whatever the operator feels like doing for a dying elderly person, including doing nothing at all.
As Appelbaum told Maureen Tkacik for her excellent writeup in The American Prospect: “Why anybody commits fraud is a mystery to me, because you can make so much money playing within the guidelines the way the payment scheme operates.”

In California, it’s very, very easy to set up a hospice. Pay $3,000, fill in some paperwork (or don’t — no one checks it, ever), and you’re ready to start caring for beloved parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles as they depart this world. You do get a site inspection, but don’t worry — you aren’t required to bring your site up to code until after you’re licensed, and again, they never check — not even if there are multiple complaints. After all, no one at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has the job of tracking complaints.
This is absolute catnip for private equity — free government money, no obligations, no enforcement, and the people you harm are literally dying and can’t complain. What’s not to like? No wonder PE companies have spent billions “rolling up” hospices across the country. There are 591 hospices in Van Nuys, CA alone — but at least 30 of them share a single medical director:

Medicare caps per-patient dispersals at $32,000, which presents an interesting commercial question for remorseless, paperclip-maximizing, grandparent-devouring private equity ghouls: do you take in sick patients (who cost more, but die sooner) or healthy patients (cost less, potentially live longer)?
In Van Nuys, the strategy is to bring in healthy patients and do nothing. 51% of Van Nuys hospice patients are “live discharged” — that is, they don’t die. This figure — triple the national average — is “a reliable sign of fraud.”
There are so many hospice scams and most of them are so stupid that it takes a monumental failure of oversight not to catch and prevent them. Here’s a goodun: hospices bribe doctors to “admit” patients to a hospice without their knowledge. The hospice bills for the patient, but otherwise has no contact with them. This can go on for a long time, until the patient tries to visit the doctor and discovers that their Medicare has been canceled (you lose your Medicare once you go into hospice).
Another scam: offer patients the loosest narcotics policy in town, promising all the opioids they want. Then, once their benefits expire, let them die of an overdose (don’t worry, people who die in hospice don’t get autopsies):

You can hire con artists to serve as your sales-force, and have them talk vulnerable, elderly people into enrolling in hospice care by convincing them they have nothing to live for and should just die already and not burden their loved ones any longer.
Hospitals and hospices also collude: hospitals can revive dying patients, ignoring their Do Not Resuscitate orders, so they can be transfered to a hospice and die there, saving the hospital from adding another dead patient to their stats.CMS’s solution is perverse: they’re working with Humana to expand Medicare Advantage (a scam that convinces patients to give up Medicare and enrol in a private insurance program, whose private-sector death panel rejects 13% of claims that Medicare would have paid for). The program will pay private companies $32,000 for every patient who agrees to cease care and die. As our friends on the right like to say, “incentives matter.”
Appelbaum and co have a better idea:
Do more enforcement: increase inspections and audits.
Block mergers and rollups of hospices that make them too big to fail and too big to jail.
Close existing loopholes.

Hello Sophia,
I’ve been curious about any relationships and linkages between SMA title, Alba and Jinx. Finally, I’ve managed to discover Chris’ influencer profile on one marketing platform (note: Carbons Dating The Web estimated creation date: 2023-06-01).
There are some interesting facts and figures in the case study:
Premium US dog superfood brand, Jinx is redefining dog nutrition and is sold at Walmart stores across the country. Its audience are 71% female, typically single or married and aged in their thirties. English-speaking, Jinx’s followers are 84% US-based, with India, The Philippines, Indonesia and Brazil as secondary markets. Top cities for its customers include New York, LA, San Francisco and Chicago.
Looking at celebrity influences, Chris Evans does not appear in the list.
Media-wise, Buzzfeed, Betches Media, The New York Times, HGTV, The New Yorker, People Magazine, Vice and Bon Appetit come out on top for consumption.
Chris’ audience is 67% female, typically single and aged 25-34. English-speaking, his followers are typically based in the US, with Brazil, India, Italy and Mexico as other territories. Top cities include São Paulo, New York and LA. On basic demographics, Chris Evans and Jinx are rather well matched, particularly if the brand is hoping to reach a slightly younger customer base.
Diving into likes and interests, Film & TV rank highly, as well as music, dance, sport, college, poetry, Mexican food and spirituality. Pets is present, with 1.5% of the share, which is 1.3x the platform average, putting Chris Evan’s profile in the top 20% of all Instagram accounts for pets.

Giorgia Meloni, prima alla Camera e poi al Senato, ha accusato Giuseppe Conte di aver firmato il nuovo trattato del Mes “con il favore delle tenebre”, ovvero nascondendolo al Parlamento e agli italiani. “Ricordo – ha detto Meloni – che l’unico mandato parlamentare sulla materia del Mes, nel 2019, impegnava il governo Conte a non ratificare la modifica del trattato”. Aggiungendo poi che l’Italia ha dato con il governo Conte “il suo assenso un giorno dopo essersi dimesso, senza mandato parlamentare, senza che ne avesse il potere, senza dirlo agli italiani”.
Al Senato, sventolando un foglio con l’autorizzazione da parte del governo Conte a firmare l’accordo, con tono alterato Meloni ha detto che “dalla storia non si esce: la propaganda si può fare ma poi rimangono i fogli a dimostrare la serietà di chi parla”.
Ma la prova della menzogna di Meloni e dell’innocenza di Conte è, paradossalmente, proprio sul foglio che la premier agita in Aula.
“Vi ho portato un bel fax – dice Meloni ai senatori mostrando il foglio – Per il rappresentante permanente d’Italia presso l'Ue, ambasciatore Maurizio Massari.
La s.v. è autorizzata a firmare l’accordo recante modifica del trattato che istutiisce il Mes. Firmato: Luigi Di Maio’”. E quindi l’affondo della premier: “Questa firma è stata fatta un giorno dopo le dimissioni del governo Conte, quando era incaricato solamente per gli affari correnti, contro il parere del Parlamento, senza dirlo agli italiani, e con il favore delle tenebre!”.
Non è affatto così. E’ vero che Conte ha dato le dimissioni il 26 gennaio e che la riforma del Mes è stata firmata dall’Italia il giorno successivo, il 27 gennaio, ma ciò che Meloni nasconde è quando il ministro degli Esteri ha inviato il messaggio all’ambasciatore presso l’Ue.
Eppure lo si vede chiaramente, ingrandendo la foto, in testa al foglio, dove compare il numero di protocollo con la data: 2021-01-20.
Il ministro Di Maio ha cioè mandato il messaggio il 20 gennaio, alle 16:25, sei giorni prima delle dimissioni di Conte, quando il governo era nel pieno delle sue funzioni.
Ma questo Meloni non lo ha detto, appositamente per far credere che l’ordine è stato inviato il giorno della firma, il 27 gennaio, “dopo le dimissioni del governo”.
Non è l’unica affermazione falsa della premier. Non è vero, ad esempio, che non c’è stata un’approvazione parlamentare. E’ vero che il governo Conte formalmente firmò il trattato del Mes il giorno dopo le sue dimissioni avvenute il 26 gennaio 2021: ma l’ordine è stato inviato il 20 gennaio 2021, mentre il consenso politico dell’Italia era già stato dato l’11 dicembre 2020, dopo aver ricevuto il mandato dal Parlamento il 9 dicembre. Tutto alla luce del sole, senza il favore delle tenebre.
Come dice Meloni: “La propaganda si può fare, ma poi rimangono i fogli a dimostrare la serietà di chi parla”.

Hello dear Sarah, I hope you are feeling very well ☺️ I was wondering if by any chance you will have on audio all the covers that Wakana has done in her concerts, such as the covers that she sings at the live music party? Thanks in advance
Hello there! Sorry for the late reply. It took me a while to muster up the necessary motivation to collect all of Wakana's covers and put them into a single folder. Wakana has done quite a lot of covers throughout the years and while I do have audios for all of them, they are scattered across several folders and two different Google Drives. I didn't wanna forget about anything so I carefully worked my way through my Wakana content. Hopefully the list is complete now. If anyone notices that something is missing, please let me know! Also, please be aware that I am only including full covers here. Wakana has done various short covers on Instagram and her fan club videos but I wouldn't add them to this collection.

"Have everything?" you asked him with an excited smile, your backpack hooked over your shoulder, an extra duffel bag in your left hand. He nodded, taking your hand in his own and squeezing reassuringly.
It was just past two in the morning and the two of you were wearing a good amount of jackets and jerseys.
“Let’s go,” he said softly, tugging you lightly as you walked down the road. Once you were far enough from your hometown, you'd try your best to hitch hike further, to your actual destination. The two of you had left notes for your parents, each telling them that they didn't have to worry and that you'd be gone for the week. You also told them that you wouldn't be too far from home, the two of you walking in a comfortable silence.
You were going to Daegu, since Hoseok had a friend there that would let you stay for the week. His name was Min Yoongi, if you remember correctly.
The two of you kept walking, hand in hand, down the left side of the road, making sure to stay out of the middle of the main road. It wasn't until about three in the morning when you started getting tired, your pace gradually slowing down. Hoseok was looking at you worriedly.
"Are you sure you don't wanna stop for a while? I'm sure we're far enough now to be able to catch a ride—" you shook your head, smiling up at him as reassuringly as you could.
"No, we can't risk it. Everyone knows us, Mr. Local Dancer.” He smiled sheepishly, a light blush tinting his face. You giggled at him, pinching his cheek happily. "We can walk for another five minutes maybe, and then we can catch a ride,” you said. He sighed, but nodded.
You were asthmatic, and though you had taken a puff of your inhaler before you had started walking, you couldn't take another one, since you had been stupid enough to pack it in the bottom of your backpack, and it would take way too long to unpack and repack. It took another fifteen minutes for you to actually stop, crouching down as it became a bit lighter outside. Hobi was wearing a luminescent/ reflective jacket so passing cars would still be able to see you. Hoseok stood over you worriedly, gently rubbing your back.
"Okay, I'll see if I can catch a car." You nodded, taking deep breaths to calm your breathing. Thankfully, it didn't take long for Hobi to get a car to stop. You stood up and followed him to the passenger window of the car, looking at the driver pleadingly.
"Hello, sir. Could my girlfriend and I please ride in the back of your truck?" He asked politely.
"Well, where are you two going?" He asked hesitantly.
"Daegu, sir." The man thought it over for a few more moments before sighing. With his thumb, he motioned to the back of his truck.
"Get in. It'll be a while until we get there." Hoseok smiled at the man brightly, ushering you to the back of the truck.
He loaded the bags into the back with you, helping you in before settling himself down, his back resting against one of the softer bags. You sat next to him, head resting against his shoulder. You looked up at him with an adoring smile, kissing his cheek. “Atta go, tiger.”
He smiled, cutely scrunching his nose and bringing a hand up to his face, bending his fingers so that they looked similar to claws. You giggled at him, kissing his cheek warmly and settling back against his shoulder with a yawn.
"Sleep, baby. We'll be there before you know it." Hoseok told you gently, stroking your hair in hopes of helping you fall asleep. When your breathing evened out and he had made sure you were sleeping, he smiled at you fondly before falling asleep himself.

When you had gotten to Daegu, you had thanked the driver by giving him some cash. Hoseok had then messaged Yoongi about where you were waiting for him, and when Yoongi came, you hopped into the back of his car with a laugh. Hoseok told him of your journey from Gwangju to Daegu.
"The room you two will be using is a bit cramped, but there should be enough space for both of your things." Yoongi explained as he unlocked the door into his house, showing you to your room.
"That's no problem, Minnie. As long as we have a roof over our head while we stay here, I'm thankful." You told him with a smile. Hoseok smiled happily at the back of your head, carrying some of the bags. He was glad that the two of you were getting along well. It would've been awkward if you hadn't gotten along.
"Here we are—"
Hoseok looked into the room where Yoongi had turned on the light switch. When Yoongi had said cramped; he had misunderstood. There was one small mattress in the middle of the room, and there was just barely enough space for their clothes. "From the way you were describing it I thought it would've been worse," you said with a light-hearted smile, lightening the mood as Yoongi snickered.
"My mom will get home in about 15 minutes, and then she can make us some food."
"You're sure your mom is fine with us staying here for a week? I mean, we wouldn't mind making our own dinner, or at least help paying." Hoseok offered with a frown.
Yoongi thought for a moment. "You can talk to my mom about it, if you really want to. But for now, just get to unpacking. When she gets back it's straight to dinner, dishes and then bed."
You laughed, waving to Yoongi before tugging on Hobi's sleeve gently. He turned to look at you, the two of you walking into the room and crouching down to start your unpacking.
True to his word, Yoongi's mother arrived and immediately ordered everyone to help start dinner. While you were cooking, you and Hobi had convinced Mrs. Min to let you pay for and buy stuff like bread, milk and (non-alcoholic) drinks.
You and Hoseok had started having a compliment battle while doing the dishes, until Yoongi, in a very non-threatening way, said: "If the two of you don't stop being so lovey-dovey, I will put soap in your eyes."
The two of you had just said goodnight to Yoongi and his mother, who were watching a drama before they also went to sleep. When you closed the door, your room was engulfed in complete darkness while you moved to lay next to Hoseok on the mattress.
"It's creepy," Hobi whined, pulling you closer to him like the scaredy cat he was. You snickered, holding him tightly before giving him a light, reassuring squeeze.
"Don't worry, sunshine. I'll protect you from the ghosts—"
"What ghosts?" he whisper-screamed, making you laugh. He smiled into the darkness, moving forward and placing a gentle kiss on your temple. "Goodnight, love. See you tomorrow morning,” he hummed lovingly, nuzzling his face into your hair. You hummed back at him, pressing your face into his chest as you wrapped a leg over his waist.
"Sleep tight," you whispered.
When you woke up the next morning, you noticed how you were warm, though you no longer had blankets covering you. Hearing the light breathing of another person next to you, you smiled as you realized that the reason why you were so warm was because of Hoseok; his leg sprawled over the lower half of your body, arm over your shoulder with his hand tucked under your arm.
Possessive, cuddly ray of sunshine, you thought with a giggle. You sat up, being pulled back down with a little whine. "Five more minutes..."
"C'mon, cuddle buddy. Yoongi's probably waiting for us."
"Why would he be awake and waiting for us?" Hoseok questioned, sitting up drowsily and with messy hair. You pushed his hair out of his eyes before smiling.
"Don't you remember?" you asked. "He's taking us around the place!"
Hobi's eyes widened comically, and you couldn't help but kiss him. He looked at you a bit dumbfounded, but regained his composure quickly to kiss you again.
When you left the house, Yoongi almost gasped. "I think this is the most sunlight I've gotten in the last five years—"
You and Hoseok laughed for so long that people started staring.
You chuckled all the way to the ice cream place, you and Hobi repeating the sentence under your breaths with carefree giggles. "Yah, stop giggling and tell me what flavor you want." Yoongi snapped pointedly.
"We'll both have vanilla." Hobi said before you could.
Cooing, you kissed his cheek. “Wah, you know me so well!"
"Of course." He smiled at you knowingly.
Once you had finished ordering and you were sitting outside on a mini-wall, you told Hoseok to pose for you. You took the picture with a smile, setting it as your background and sending it to his mom with the caption: 'Everything's going well and we're doing great! We'll be back in 3 more days!'
His mother sent back a heart and okay-hand emoji, making you giggle as you showed Hoseok, who lost his shit.

"Right! Last place!" Yoongi cheered as you neared your final destination three days later. You had stayed at Yoongi's place for most of the time, if you weren't going for walks with him and his parents (his dad having finally arrived back from a delayed work-trip).
"Wow..." You said, sitting on top of the hill in awe. You could see the whole of the night-time town. The wind blew your hair into your face, having forced you to tie it up, but it was doing wonders for Hoseok.
Looking over at him, you saw how he had extended his arms and closed his eyes, enjoying the way the wind pushed his hair back. You smiled at him fondly, going to sit with Yoongi and silently thanking him for the wonderful week.
Back in your small room back at Yoongi's place, you watched Hobi sleep fondly. "Goodnight, my sunshine. I love you." You mumbled.
"I love you too, baby." He mumbled back quietly, already knowing that you were asleep.
