The Bad Sanses somehow ended up in the Backrooms. №9
Tumblr media
next 10
prev 8
This is the translation of the another post from Russian to English. I understand English, but it is very difficult for me to write in English, so I asked chat GPT to help me. I have corrected some parts, but there still may be mistakes.
I encountered an organization called "To Be Determined". It inspired me to create this drawing. In this organization, there are 6 people who trade highly nonfunctional and peculiar items. I immediately imagined it as a shop run by lost Temmies (Flowey and Bob) from different AUs within Backrooms.
I noticed that there aren't that many prepared posts about bad guys in the backrooms - maybe two or three more. A couple of weeks ago, I started a new job and haven't been drawing much.
I think these posts about bad guys will be once a week, on Saturdays.
Please wish me inspiration =)
The new rooms were similar to Level 0 in their structure. Clusters of office rooms, with and without office furniture. But now there was a pleasant addition in the form of windows. The closed door of the previous place, as before, disappeared behind them when they passed through it. Nightmer seemed calmer without the negative water supply. (Again, being able to clearly distinguish the auras of his wards was definitely pleasant)
After some wandering, Nightmare sensed another presence nearby. Within seconds, everyone heard a distant
“HOOOOY!”
This exclamation certainly wasn’t what Nightmare wished to hear, yet if these were Temmies (or something like them), then they might provide information — even though their brains seemed similar to confetti made of narcotic flakes.  At the same time, the place where the Tems might live cannot be too dangerous.
Following the sound, the group found themselves in a medium-sized office room. Soft bean bag chair (Error felt nostalgic for Antivoid) and strange objects, presumably for sale alongside an old cardboard box, occupied one corner. Something resembling Flowey danced as if trapped in an animation loop near merchandise, becoming slightly animated upon seeing customers. Two monsters dressed similarly to Temmies sat nearby. Bob stood apart, his expression frozen, suggesting he had eaten Temmie Flake.
As it turned out later, two more monsters from this group were missing, busy gathering supplies and goods for the little shop. They all seemed to come from different AUs.
Here were also computers, many of which were operational. They tried to access the Undernet and various sites. They couldn't. Instead, they entered a sort of knowledge base. A local Wikipedia or something similar. The browser already contained open tabs, but they couldn't open new ones - there was no network connection. Someone had left the browser open, he took the equipment with him. And, oh, it seemed they had found gold while looking for copper: by reading the text, they understood that the author of the notebook was making notes from this knowledge base. This was easy to understand by the style. There were about a hundred open tabs: items and entities, but mostly levels. From the amount of new information, their heads were spinning. Some levels were described in an unusual way, requiring attention to details to extract additional information. And nothing about exiting from here. There were levels-dead ends, levels-traps, but nothing about a real exit from here.
However, on the other hand, it became evident that there weren't many people in the Backrooms, and they moved individually due to the nature of how many levels was work. Almost everything here seemed to be trying to kill them. But it appeared that not even the dimension-killer could do anything against their DETERMINATION.
Temmies struggled to provide clear answers regarding humans; instead, they simply told strangers, "Temmies too pieople," and strangers treating them like quirky yet harmless folks. How could such a system work? Perhaps these humans were slightly mad. Or perhaps very tolerant towards others' differences. Either way, avoiding contact would be wise.
The presence of monsters in these places brought some comfort. The Bad Guys weren't the only ones who had a rough time. That was good. But the fact that some other monsters they encountered were distorted beyond recognition - like the Smilers - raised serious concerns. It was nerve-wracking.
While Error, Cross, and Dust were exploring the local equivalent of the internet, others used the suddenly freed-up time for themselves. For example, they tried to trade. They all had some amount of monster gold and items to exchange, which Temmies agreed to accept. Horror bought a "Strange Amulet," sweets, and some food to diversify their diet. Almond Water was certainly good, but it was getting boring, and they never tried to cook Greasy Marshmallow. Considering the amulet useless for himself, Horror gave it to Dast.
Strange Amulet ATK: 10 DEF: 10 Made from butterflies in the stomach. It smells of hopes and dreams turned to dust. Allows forming new friendships.
Killer bought numerous boxes of Temmi Flake and Flowey Seeds, several paint cans, and countless small parts of mechanisms along with some mysterious steel scraps, strange red shavings - it seemed he enjoyed them. He also tried planting grass, but Horror stopped him.
Temmie Flake Restores 1–10 HP and sanity *represented by cut yellow wallpaper soaked in Almond Waters
Flowey Seeds Restore 10 HP *represented by seeds coated in Greasy Marshmallow
Nightmare didn't particularly need any products, but somehow excitedly Temmies looked at his tentacles (too much positivity) and offered a discount. Eventually, he purchased a notebook containing maps of certain stable levels from them. Unfortunately, those maps were unsigned. Since he wasn't sure if damaging traders would be beneficial, he decided to go the honest route this time around. After all, merchants held a special status across worlds.
The group stopped at this location for a couple days to record all the information from the site that could be useful to them. It turned out that sequential exploration of levels was only possible up to level 12. Beyond that, entrances and exits from levels led randomly, and any movement scheme resembled a pot of spaghetti. But in theory, they needed to explore this entire pot to find a way home. There were levels that looked like a one-way ticket, empty, unexplored, strange, surreal, remote, and destroyed. Overall, they could work with this.
Temmies didn't mind their company. Soon returned two departed collectors - underfell!Temmie and Temmie in "Temm Armor". They were surprisingly normal compared to the other merchants and shared some information:
People here can also be dangerous just like Fallen Child of Dungeons;
Many who live outside bases and settlements are mad to varying degrees especially those who haven’t drunk Almond Water for long;
Monsters can safely trade with lone humans;
People at outposts and bases usually think rationally and may attack if they realize you are not human. But even with them, you can negotiate.

Poe's Giffing Tutorial (From One Beginner to Another)
Tumblr media
Hey, everyone! So, I've been thinking about this for a while, and decided to finally make it happen. This post aims to be a giffing tutorial that isn't a bunch of technical jargon that nobody except experienced giffers understands. This is for the person that I was when I first started out: someone who wants to make gifs, for free, without having to learn the entirety of a new program. As such, if you're already familiar with the basics, this probably won't be super helpful to you.
In this, I'll cover the basics of actually capturing a gif, the how-to of color correction (though without getting into the nitty-gritty detail of it), some basic text effects, and some more decorative effects like overlays and ~fancy coloring. I'll also show you the program I use to resize gifs.
I don't have a fun quip to lead us into the next part, so, uh, let's just dive in.
Tools*:
A PC capable of handling heavy processor loads (I use a mid-range gaming laptop; it's a little slow sometimes, but it works)
Whatever you're giffing (obviously...)
ScreenToGif (a free, basic screencapture program)
Photopea (a free, in-browser Photoshop dupe)
RedKetchup (a free file resizer/converter)
*Note: These are not the end-all, be-all of gifmaking. They may not even be the best tools for the job! But they're free, they work well, and they're relatively intuitive.
Step 1: Capture your gif.
I'm going to use ScreenToGif for this. The first thing I do is open the program and click Recorder, which opens the recording interface.
Tumblr media
I click and drag (or manually input dimensions in the boxes next to the recording button in the lower right corner) to set my dimensions, and then I press record. The red "Record" button will change to a blue square that says "Stop," and a timer will appear in the upper right corner, showing how many seconds your gif is.
Generally, I'll pause the video 5-10 seconds before my desired start time, to give myself a buffer (you'll be able to delete those frames later), start the recording, and then start the video. You'll probably find a system that works for you once you do it a few times.
Once the scene that I want to capture is done, I'll click the blue "Stop" button, and the overlay will close itself. A few seconds later, depending on how long/complex/large your gif is, the program will pop up with a new window where you can edit. Here's what it looks like:
Tumblr media
You can do a lot with ScreenToGif, but we'll be using the dead simple stuff today. Click the "Edit" tab, fourth from the left, and this will show up.
Tumblr media
"Delete All Previous" and "Delete All Next" are our friends here. Go to the FIRST frame that you want in your gif, using either your arrow keys or just dragging the slider, and select it. Then hit "Delete All Previous." This will make that frame the first frame of your gif. Then, go to the LAST frame of your gif, and hit "Delete All Next." This makes the last frame of the scene that you want the last frame of the gif. You can also use the "Delete" option to delete frames by selecting them with your cursor if you want a more manual option.
Now you have your raw gif! Go to the "File" tab, the first one on the left, and select "Save As" from the menu. You want to make sure that it's saving as a .gif file, not an .mp4 or .apng --- you can check this up at the top. Don't worry, though, as .gif is the default, so unless you change it, you should be golden. Select whatever folder you want to put it in, name it, and save it.
You could absolutely stop here. It is by no means required to color your gifs or slow them down or any other number of things associated with giffing. But if you want to, here's how I do it.
Step 2: Edit your gif.
Head on over to Photopea. You'll see this:
Tumblr media
What we want is the "Open From Computer" option. Click it, and your File Explorer will show up. Navigate to whatever folder you saved your gif in and select it by double clicking or clicking once and hitting "Open."
It'll open in a new workspace that looks like this.
Tumblr media
You may be saying, "Gee, Poe, that sure looks a lot like Photoshop!" Yes, it absolutely does. If you're familiar with Photoshop, you will most likely be able to find your way around Photopea just fine, and can probably go from here. But if you're not familiar with Photoshop, here's the basics.
First thing's first: gifs are frequently pretty fuzzy/blurry. Luckily, sharpening them is easy.
Select all your frames (the list on the right with all the numbered layers) by clicking one end, scrolling up/down, holding Shift, and clicking the other end. Then go up to the tabs and do Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen. This will automatically sharpen each frame using a percentage; the default is, I believe, 150%, and this is usually what I use because I am fundamentally lazy.
If you don't select all your frames, only the one that you're currently on (the one highlighted in a lighter color) will get the effect applied to it. This goes for basically anything you do, so it's good to get in the habit of selecting all.
Now that it's sharpened, we can color it. Go up to the tabs again, and go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > [whatever you want to adjust]. Most commonly in Escape the Night, you'll have to adjust brightness, because there's a lot of dark, moody scenes; Season 3 is also especially yellow/orange tinted, so you'll probably want to color correct it, too, using the Color Balance adjustment layer. This is a total guessing game based on the exact scene you're doing and my method is just selecting random things and adjusting sliders until it looks good (remember: fundamentally lazy). Honestly, I'm not an expert in coloring gifs, so I won't pretend to be — especially since people can and do write entire posts just dedicated to it. For this gif, I'm just lightening it a little.
And if this is all you want to do — no text, no effects — you're done! Go to File > Export As > GIF. It will take a few moments to load, so don't panic when your page freezes. A new window will pop up that allows you to do things like set looping, time, etc. but you can also just "Save" and you're done!
But let's say you want something fun. Maybe you'd like to overlay a quote or make it a cool color. If that's the case, continue on...
Step 3: Make your gif shine.
Three parts in this: text, fun colors, and overlays. You can combine these three to do some awesome things, and they're all very simple to do, once you know what you're doing. Think of them less like steps and more like a mix-and-match deal. You can use one, two, or all three!
So, here we go.
Option 3a: Add some text.
The easiest option of the three, this one works exactly like you think it does. The uppercase T symbol on the sidebar will create a new text layer where you can type something and set a font, size, and color.
Tumblr media
I'll spare you the lecture on typography that I could give you — you can find better ones than I could make. Generally, though, you have a decorative/display font for headings and emphasis, and then a different, more generalized font for subheadings and other things. In this, the display font is Heavy Heap, which was used on the Season 3 tarot cards, and the general font is a relatively generic serif font.
(Sidenote: you can load fonts into Photopea! Just go to a font website like Dafont, download the font you want, and then open it as you would any other file by going to File > Open and selecting it from your files. You should get a message that says "Font [Your Font Name Here] Loaded," and then you'll be able to use it in your design. That's how I got Heavy Heap in there.)
You can change size and color with these, which will show up at the top when you select the text tool. Keep in mind that if you're making changes after you type something out, you will need to select (highlight) the text you want to change — it won't do it automatically.
Tumblr media
I will admit that Photopea's text editor is not the cleanest, simplest, or nicest to use, especially at first. I came from Canva where it was much faster and easier. The downside, of course, is that Canva is highly limited with what you can do.
There are also ways to warp the text, change the blending, and do outlines, but I'll leave that for another time as to avoid making this any longer than it already is.
Option 3b: Make it a cool color.
You have a couple different ways to do this. Probably the most intuitive is to go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Photo Filter. Select the color box, pick the color you want using the picker or a hex code, select your desired density, and click OK. Boom, color over your gif.
Tumblr media
It defaults to this vintage-y orange, but you can pick whatever color your heart desires.
However, I usually use a different method using Gradient Maps. This is also pretty easy; Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map. If you leave it black and white, by the way, you get a B&W gif (you can also just select the Black and White option in the Adjustment Layer menu). Click on the gradient, select the white square on the right side of the gradient line, and then select the square down at the bottom of the window and change it to whatever color you want.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this gif, I'm leaving it B&W.
(You can have a lot of fun with gradient maps. Play around with them!)
Option 3c: Overlay another gif on top.
Ooookay, so, this is the most advanced and tedious of effects to do (at least of the ones documented in this post), but it's worth it, I promise. For this, you'll need at least one other gif. I usually use a base gif that's relatively neutrally colored, oftentimes B&W but sometimes just faded or pastel, plus one (or more than one) colored, brighter gif. These are, of course, just guidelines — combine whatever gifs you want. The only real requirement, per se, is that they have the same amount of frames. If they don't, it'll look weird. (But if you do end up with two gifs that have different amounts of frames, you can delete the difference right in Photopea, so I don't stress about it too much.)
You also generally want to add text after this step, so if you're planning on doing this, save the text for last.
First things first: color your gifs the way you want and then save both of them. Then re-open them both in Photopea. Yes, this is annoying. I did say it was tedious.
Tumblr media
So now I have both of them in my navbar, labeled as "tutorial base" and "tutorial overlay."
Go to your overlay gif and right-click on the gif folder. This is the top layer with a little arrow and folder icon next to the name of the gif.
Tumblr media
Select "Duplicate Into" and then pick your base gif in the popup. In my case, it's named "tutorial base."
Tumblr media
Now you'll click over to your base gif, and you'll see that your accent has been put on top of your base. Now you get to have fun with blending!
Right click on the overlay gif's folder again. Then, select Blending Options, which is the first menu item. It'll bring up a popup with all sorts of options for styling your layer.
Tumblr media
The default setting is Pass Through, which is what we see here. If you want, you could just change the opacity to get your desired effect.
You could also play around with blending options such as Overlay, Color Burn, Lighten, and Screen. Every gif is different, and every gif will look different with different options, so experiment and see what looks best! You may have to go back and recolor it a few times, so I recommend just keeping the project open in your navbar for easy access.
For this gif, I think I'll go with Darker Color at 67%.
One last step, and then you're done with blending!
Go to Layer > Animation > Merge. This will merge each frame of your animation (the gifs) with each other, meaning that they'll play at the same time. If you forget this step, as I do frequently, you'll go to save your gif and find that it plays as a sequence.
Once you've merged your gifs, you can add texts, more effects, PNG overlays, whatever you want! Congrats! You did it!
Step 4: Resize your gif (if necessary).
Maybe you've made a gif, and it's beautiful, and it's amazing, and you wanna show everyone...but it's five million megabytes and you can't send or post it anywhere. Tumblr's max file size is 10 MB, while Discord's (standard) max file size is..7 MB, I think? Either way, if you try to upload something bigger than that, you'll get an error message and the familiar taste of disappointment.
Never fear, Redketchup is here!
Tumblr media
This is Redketchup, and it's super simple.
Go to "GIF Resizer" under Animation Tools. Upload your gif, then scroll until you see the Resize GIF section. Input the percentage you'd like to reduce it by (presets are 25%, 50%, and 75% smaller, but you can set it manually, as well).
This is also the step where you can slow it down if you desire if you didn't do it in Photopea — it's in the next section down. Set the speed, if you'd like, and then go down to the bottom and hit Download.
Tumblr media
It'll take you to a preview tab where you can check if your gif is small enough. If it is, hit Download again up in the top left, and that's that! Go share your gif with the world!
Conclusion:
Thank you for reading! I am by no means an expert gifmaker, but I want to spread the love and give other people the option to do it. I wouldn't know any of this stuff without the people who taught me, and I'll put a list of tutorials down at the bottom that I referenced when I was first learning to make gifs.
At any rate, if you use this post to make a gif, feel free tag me or send it to me so I can see! And for those of you who are on the fence about learning or starting to gif...
Do it. I double-dog dare you.

Hi! Do you mind sharing your coloring tutorial or tips? especially for the animation ones, they're so good! your gifs are crisp and HD
hi, anon. tysm! 🫶 i don't mind at all since i’ve gotten more than a few requests from before, ig it's time to give it a go. (more) details are under the cut. 😁
Tumblr media
before we start, i want you to take note of the following things that will be helpful in the process of making/coloring gifs.
if you want to get the know-how on making gifs, @redbelles did us a solid and gave us this comprehensive guide that will save me the time for explaining lmao. 😅✌️
make gifsets without skipping frames. keep frame delay 0.05 and 0.06 for less than 25 frames. anything more or less is too fast or too slow. additionally, it's also important to note that if you're dealing w videos that are faster than 30fps you change the frame delay to 0.04.
gif using the the new dimensions (in this tutorial i used the dimensions of 540px x 510px since it's all about big gifs now 🙄).
use the standard sharpening settings (smart sharpen, amount 500%, radius 0.3px, remove gaussian blur and tick more accurate) also note the sharpening settings for 2d as you've specifically requested.
you can use action that will convert your gif back to frames and set your timing to 0.05 with a single click. basically photoshop will follow out all of these time-consuming steps for you! just download the action and double click it. it should now be added to your list of actions.  to see your actions, go to window > actions. find the folder that says "GIF ACTION" and select the lines that says "CLICK HERE" and voila! ps will do all the hard work for you.
the coloring on your gifs will look good if you have a good base so try not to skip on video qualities. use high quality copies like 1080p or 2160p (4k ones are good) the higher the gb the better. it makes coloring so much easier and reduces grains.
*cracks knuckles* let's start!
for 2d animation's sharpening settings, it usually varies so i just move the amount around and see what looks or works better for a specific gif. i used amount: 189 and radius: 0.2 for this ponyo gif. anything can work between 189 to 350 for me but i maintain the radius at 0.2. again, you can just play the amount around until you find the one that looks good for your gif.
Tumblr media
when i’m making gifs. i look for that notorious contrast between the light and dark parts. i think it gives life to the gif- so exposure, levels and curves are best to achieve that. for curves, just go to layer > new adjustment layer > curves. this layer is going to help brighten up the gif in certain areas, and darken others. select the white eyedropper. click the lighter part of the gif like the white/light part of the ship.
Tumblr media
next, select the black eyedropper and click on a black/dark area of the gif (refer to the arrow bc i don't know which part of the ship is that called lmao).
Tumblr media
you can skip the black eyedropper if you're already satisfied w the result of the white one.
color balance and selective color are your two best buddies. they’re great when you’re trying to change some tones or specific colors of the gif, like the skin tone which is very tricky.
using selective color is pretty simple, here’s a really useful guide:
Tumblr media
if you pull any of the tabs to the right, it increases the amount of color (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), and reduces the amount of opposite color (red, green, blue and white).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i also use the blacks and whites in selective color especially if the gif is saturated w colors to tone down some parts and make shadows more visible (idk if this is still making sense 😅).
Tumblr media
in working with color balance, i use midtones and highlights sparingly. it's really helpful in removing or balancing out a certain tone.
Tumblr media
here's my save setting ⬆️
idk why but ps puts the default frame delay to 0.07/0.03 so open your gif in ps again and don't forget to change the delay to 0.05.
Tumblr media
and we're done!
Tumblr media
i sometimes go back and forth and do some tweaking until i’m satisfied with the result. this is how i color and i know it’s not perfect but i learn by constant practice. there’s really no standard in coloring so you can make yours the way you like it. just enjoy- until you get the hang of it and it becomes less daunting (or something like that). i hope this helps. if you have more questions, my askbox is always open 😊.

PART ONE
--
Tumblr media
The shot hurtled through the hole in the brick and connected with your shoulder. You cried out and dropped to the floor, letting your rifle drop alongside you with a clatter.
"Son of a bitch-" the bullet had gone right through you; blood was blooming onto your fatigues as you scrambled for your med-kit and jammed a length of gauze into the hole with a hiss.
You sat up and edged your way backward, dragging your rifle along with you until you were hidden behind a cabinet.
The bastard had finally wised up. His muzzle flare had come from one floor below and far back into the room.
Fuck.
It just had to be your trigger arm.
You gritted your teeth as you shoved the gauze further into the bullet hole until the blood flow stopped. You needed to get out of there and fast before the other sniper figured out how badly he had injured you.
You reached for your discarded binoculars and peered around the filing cabinet carefully. You activated the night vision and scanned the room one floor below where the soldier had been before.
He was gone.
You let your head loll back against the cold metal and sighed before tossing your binoculars back into your bag. You'd have to wait through the day and into the next nightfall before moving out.
--
Timur peered through his scope and watched for any sign of movement across the street.
Nothing.
He had retreated to the kitchen area of his new post and bunkered down to try and sleep- he hadn't rested in what felt like days, waiting for the other sniper to make a move. The sun was beginning to paint the faded wallpaper in the apartment in a bloody orange glow and he knew dawn was rapidly approaching.
Timur clutched his mangled hand to his chest and winced as he examined the bloodied bandages. He couldn't even be sure he had hit the other sniper- he had taken a wild potshot on a gamble after seeing the scope flare.
His eyes were so heavy.
"Only for a minute-" he mumbled to himself. He set the timer on his watch and closed his eyes, "Only...a minute."
Tumblr media
You changed out the bloodied gauze in your wound and swallowed a half tab of hydrocodone from your trauma pack. The wound ached, spreading a dull pain down your arm and into your chest.
It was now or never.
Your radio had been dead air since day two, and you were betting the other sniper's was as well. You paused to count the windows across the street once more and jotted the floor and number onto the back of your hand.
--
Across the street, Timur twitched in his sleep as the alarm on his watch beeped faintly, jammed under the rucksack in his lap.
For so long, he had been without sleep, that when it finally overtook him, it was deep and uninterrupted.
You sprinted across the street through the darkness, recounting the windows again and again.
If he saw you...
Outside the door to the apartment, you slunk, catlike, and tried the handle. It was unlocked. It seemed too easy- surely he wouldn't have let his guard down this thoroughly.
You turned the handle as quietly as you could and pressed the door open into the pitch black apartment. Your arm throbbed, the dull ache surging down into your fingers that were slowly becoming pins and needles as the hours ticked by.
You flipped your night-vision goggles down over your eyes and with a high-pitched whine they came to life, illuminating the room in green light. To your disbelief, the other sniper was fast asleep, his injured hand pulled close to his chest and his rifle at least three feet away.
You were his enemy, but you weren't a monster- killing him now would be like shooting a man dangling from a parachute. You unsheathed your knife and crept slowly toward him, silent as a predator on the hunt.
If you woke him up and he was quick on his feet, you'd be at a disadvantage- your dominant arm was beginning to feel like a leaden weight, and every movement was agony.
You hovered over him for a moment, still in awe of his ability to sleep so soundly. Cautiously, you tapped his thigh with your boot and he grunted, his face twitching. He muttered something in Russian and you rolled your eyes.
"Wake up," you said it loudly enough that he jolted awake and rolled away from you, scrambling for his sidearm. You were faster, more well-rested, and kicked it from his hand before he had a chance to train the sights on you.
He swore in Russian and reached for his knife, shuffling quickly to put some distance between the two of you. A bright glow stick flared to life in his hands and he tossed it to the floor to illuminate the space.
"Why did you wake me?" he spoke with a heavy Russian accent; his eyes wandered to your bloodied arm and you thought you saw the ghost of a satisfied smirk flit across his features.
"Should I have cut your throat while you slept?"
"Thought that was what your people did," he spat.
"I'm not a savage."
"The Masks aren't known for their mercy," the other soldier began to circle and you did the same, each of you poised to leap if the other made a move.
"Then be glad that rumor isn't true of me," your arm was now entirely numb from the elbow down, and it felt cold and limp as it dangled at your side.
Timur was smart, he knew you weren't in fighting condition- your arm hung like a leaden weight, and your face had a pallor that suggested significant blood loss.
Perhaps this was more like two men dangling from parachutes, knives brandished.
"You're in no shape to fight" Timur gestured at your wounded arm.
Your gaze narrowed, trying to read his expression through his dark eyes, all that peeked out from above his balaclava. The grease paint around them had been smudged in some places and completely wiped off in others.
He had a kind face.
"I'll make you a deal, Russkie," you lowered your blade and he followed suit hesitantly, "we go our separate ways right now. I don't shoot if you don't."
"Will you stab me instead?" Timur asked and you laughed bitterly, nodding to your bloodied fatigues.
"Wouldn't be very effective if I did."
You backed away slowly and he watched you with caution, eyes darting furtively between you and the door.
"Wait-" he cleared his throat awkwardly and you paused, cocking your head to hear what he had to say, "do you have any water?"
"What?"
"...water," he repeated rather stupidly, "mine is gone."
You contemplated for a moment. Your canteen was still half full, but your first aid kit was depleted.
"I do. What's left in your trauma pack?"
Timur turned to fish through his rucksack and pulled a hard metal case from inside. He hadn't even dressed his own wound properly.
But he was so fucking thirsty.
"Couple of rolls of gauze, antibiotics -"
"Antibiotics!" You cut him off a little too eagerly, but you didn't care. Shame wasn't going to kill you, but gangrene would.
Cautiously, he slid the case toward you across the wooden floor, and in exchange, you rolled the canteen in his direction. You knelt and rifled through the contents until you landed on the bottle labeled 'moxifloxacin, 400mg'.
You swallowed a tablet dry and rocked back on your heels as you watched him guzzle the water as if he'd been without for some time.
"What's your name?" He asked when he'd exhausted the water supply.
You told him and he repeated it back, once, twice, and then a third time, his thick accent sometimes stumbling over he consonants.
When he was satisfied with his own pronunciation, he offered you his own, "Timur. But they call me 'Glaz' at Rainbow."
The two of you sat in silence for a moment before you spoke again.
"Quite the move you pulled on me, moving units," you nodded to the gaping hole in the exterior wall, "I would have never guessed."
Timur chuckled and gestured to his shredded hand, "How did you do the curtain trick?"
"Some shitty old war movie I watched as a kid, never thought I'd get it to work. Guessing you saw my scope flare?"
He nodded and fell back into a seated position, letting his back rest against the dilapidated fridge, "You're a good shot. You could have had me plenty of times."
"I was having fun," you admitted, suddenly feeling a wave of white hot shame as it zippered down your torso.
"I could tell," Timur didn't sound judgemental, "had you been as reckless as I was, I might have done the same."
There was a pregnant pause as you contemplated whether to depart and return to your own post.
"Has your radio been dead air?" You weren't sure he'd answer truthfully- after all, you'd effectively just revealed that yours had been.
"Since day two."
"Maybe they think we're dead," you offered, and he shrugged.
"Maybe."
"We'll survive a lot longer if we pool our resources," you gestured through the hole in the exterior wall to your post across the street, "I've got more supplies."
"What you're suggesting would have me strung up at Rainbow," Glaz cocked an eyebrow, "and I don't think the White Masks would approve."
"I don't think they're coming for us, friend," you tapped your watch, "by my count, my people moved out over 32 hours ago."
"Quick to call me friend," Timur mused. His eyes were soft as he said it.
"As far as I'm concerned, we're two comrades in a foxhole right now, but it's your loss."
You rose to your feet and retrieved the antibiotics, from the floor, offering him one final glance. He watched you, his still-soft eyes following your every move as you made for the door.
"Have any vodka over there?" Timur asked before you hit the threshold, only half-joking. He could use a swig, or twenty, to ease the pain and take the edge off.
You paused in the doorway and offered him a Cheshire grin.
"No, but the previous tenants did."
--
The streets below were, indeed, deserted, as Timur prowled beside you, eyes flitting from window to window as if expecting an ambush.
"I was the only one posted, so you can relax," you offered.
He said nothing in return.
An uneasy alliance, tiptoeing on the high wire of a promise of cheap vodka in some long-abandoned liquor cabinet. Truly, even the old war movies couldn't dream up something like this.
Your post was in better shape than his had been; the lathe and plaster was mostly intact, but there was a gaping hole in the floor that you could view the apartment below from while in the kitchen.
It was how you'd tricked him with the moving curtain. You showed him the rope rigged up and he chuckled, amused at the simplicity that had almost cost him his life.
The liquor cabinet was in the dining room, a faded old wooden hutch covered in a thick layer of dust. Timur rummaged through it, clinking bottles aside until a small 'aha!' escaped him and he retrieved a bottle bearing an image of the Kremlin and Cyrillic text.
"Good stuff?" You asked and he scoffed.
"No, it's dogshit, but it tastes like home."
"Fair enough," you gestured at the cabinet, "Any tequila in there?"
He rummaged for a moment until he produced a bottle of Patrón; the cork was rotted and the bottle was covered in dust, but it was probably the most expensive thing in there.
Timur passed you the bottle and you uncorked it, cringing at the sharp smell that greeted your nostrils.
"Cheers, comrade," you imitated his Russian accent and he chuckled as he matched your swig with a grimace.
"There it is. Tastes like turnips filtered through misery," Timur set the bottle aside and wiped his mouth on the back of his hand.
"How'd you end up stateside?" You asked before taking another swig.
"Rainbow," he answered simply, "recruited me from the Spetsnaz."
"Spetsnaz? Impressive."
"Not really," he sounded... remorseful? "I joined up after the Beslan Siege. Nothing motivates you like 200 dead kids."
The Beslan School Massacre. You knew of it- enough to know that it had been absolutely botched by the Russian government. It struck you that the people involved probably had similar morals to your own employers. The thought made your stomach churn.
"Your arm-" Timur gestured to your bloodied shoulder, interrupting your train of thought, "How bad is it?"
You shrugged your flak jacket off and revealed the wound. He made a face that was something between disgust and concern.
"It needs to be cleaned properly. Stitched."
You gestured rather awkwardly with your non-dominant hand and he rose to his feet. He rummaged first through his own trauma kit, then yours, until he had collected what he needed.
"Sit," he pointed to the dilapidated armchair on the far side of the room and you acquiesced, slumping into it and sending a small cloud of dust skyward.
Timur pulled his balaclava down under his chin to work and you took in his features in earnest for the first time. He had a sharp, angled nose that sat over stubble that had grown out over the days he'd been holed up in the apartment. His brows were full, set low over his eyes that shone against the dark grease paint smudged around them.
A sharp prick in your skin snatched you away from your analysis as the hooked suture needle pushed into the flesh around the bullet hole.
"Can't believe I hit you," Timur mused.
"I can't believe how heavily you sleep."
He shot you a look and you smirked until the next pass of the needle made you grimace.
You softened your approach.
"How long had it been? Since you slept?"
"Four days."
"I'm sorry," you offered. You weren't sure what else to say.
"Why didn't you kill me back at the apartment? Why wake me?" Timur's voice was level, but there was something hidden behind it, threatening to jump out if he spoke further.
"Why kill a sleeping man? You couldn't defend yourself."
He glanced up into your eyes and you were taken aback by how blue his were. When he spoke, genuine emotion was woven into his voice.
"Thank you."
Timur finished stitching your wound and hit it with a wash of iodine before placing a bandage over the sutures. His knots were irregular, but held firmly when you flexed the muscle.
"Sorry, they're not perfect," he gestured to the now bandaged site, "I only know how to sew."
You chuckled at the thought of him, clothed in his fatigues, hunched over a sewing machine with a rifle at his side.
Exhaustion began to seep in around the corners of your brain as you slumped back into the chair. Your eyelids felt as if they were weighted with lead, and even the gentle throb of your arm couldn't keep you from closing them.
"Sleep," Timur patted your knee gently as he sat back to observe you, "We will figure this out when the sun rises."
So you did.

a comprehensive guide to custom villagers
when making my custom villager it was very difficult to find good tutorials as many of them would point to deleted pages or only cover things i already knew, so i have decided to make my own complete tutorial. please let me know if you need any aditional help! i will try my best to keep this tutorial up to date and clarify it if needed.
it's important to note that these villagers will NOT show up in online play and dream towns. since only your game is edited, other players will see whichever villager you've replaced instead of the one you've made unless they also mod their game.
first things first, you will need a hacked 3ds with luma3ds and an SD card for this. you can probably play in citra, but i dont really know how using mods in citra works so i will focus on luma3ds for this tutorial.
if you haven't hacked your 3ds yet, do not follow a video tutorial: they can become outdated very easily with no indication of it and following outdated guides makes it a lot more likely that you'll brick your console. follow the guide on 3ds.hacks.guide instead.
other software you will need:
hackingtoolkit9ds to decrypt and unpack the rom
kukkii to extract the textures and put them back in
a drawing software (can be anything, even mspaint) to edit the textures
blender or another 3d editing software to preview what you're doing
010 editor to edit the bin and .umsbt files
step 1: getting a rom
if you're simply downloading the rom online, you may skip this step.
for those who wish to dump the rom from their console, you must first turn it on while pressing the START button to enter godmode9's menu. click the HOME button to see more options, then select "Title manager", then select where you've installed the title (SD card or the console itself). a list of all your installed games will appear. scroll down to Animal Crossing New Leaf or Happy Home Designer depending on which game you want your villager to be injected into.
once you've chosen the game, select "Manage title..." and choose either "Build CIA (standard)" or "Dump CXI/NDS file". you may then shut down the console and insert the SD card into your computer. the rom will be in the folder \gm9\out on the root of your SD card
step 2: decrypting/unpacking the rom
drag and drop your rom to the "PackHack" folder that hackingtoolkit9ds is in. rename it so that it doesn't contain any spaces or special characters.
open up hackingtoolkit9ds and type either CE (for .cia roms) or CXI (for .cxi files) in the window that appears depending on the format of your rom. it will ask you to write the name of your file without the extension. type it and press enter and wait for it to do its thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
step 3: making your textures!
you'll find your extracted villager models in the folder \ExtractedRomFS\Npc\Normal\Model
the first three letters in each .bcres file name represent the species. open up one of the files of the species you want to make yoir villager be. it doesn't have to be the file of the specific villager you want to replace as we can rename it later, but do be careful that certain villagers have slightly different models than the rest of their species (tucker having tusks or étoile having hairpins, for example)
since i wanted to make an elephant with tusks, i've picked tucker as my base. he uses model elp09.bcres
Tumblr media Tumblr media
click the "Batch export PNG" button and choose the folder you want the textures to go in. you may then edit them as you wish. your textures do not need to be semi-transparent like the extracted textures are.
i like seeing the way things look as i work, so i get a copy of the model as a .dae file to open it in blender. you may get those from models-resource.com or you may extract them yourself using ohana 3ds rebirth, though ohana can be a bit unreliable at times. blender's "texture paint" tab also allows you to draw directly on the model, though i don't find it precise enough to my taste so i mostly use it to lay guidelines for me to draw over.
Tumblr media
once you're satisfied with your model, make sure to draw the different expressions as well.
eyes 0: neutral
eyes 1: half-blink
eyes 2: blink
eyes 3: angry
eyes 4: sad
eyes 5: happy closed (think ^_^)
eyes 6: surprised
eyes 7: >_< face
mouth 0: neutral/smile
mouth 1: half-open
mouth 2: fully open
mouth 3: frown
mouth 4: half-open frown
mouth 5: fully open frown
you do not have to follow those expressions exactly: for example, being a plush elephant, tusker's mouth moves up and down as he speaks instead of opening and closing.
once everything is done, open the .bcres file in kukkii again and import all of your textures in the right slot (i've found the mass import button does not work for me), then save the file.
Tumblr media
step 4: editing names and catchphrases
note: if the villager you are replacing is already in your town, editing the catchphrase in the game's files will NOT change it in-game. similarly, if you are putting the villager in your town with marc robledo's save editor, they will have the catchphrase of the villager you've replaced unless you change it in the save editor yourself.
editing a villager's name or default catchphrase is quite simple, but the new name/catchphrase cannot be longer than the old one. if it is, it will mess up the names and default catchphrases of all the following villagers in the game files.
since you can edit the villager's personality in the game files, simply pick a villager with a long enough name and the right gender. you may also look at the villagers' favourite colors and styles on nookipedia to find one that most closely resembles the villager you wish to make.
since i want tusker to have the sisterly personality, i looked at all the sisterly villagers and i found that pashmina's tastes were close enough, so this is who tusker will be replacing. since her id is goa08, tusker's model needs to be renamed to goa08.bcres
you will find villager names in \ExtractedRomFS\Script\Str\STR_NNpc_name.umsbt and \ExtractedRomFS\Script\Str\STR_NNpc_name_ASR.umsbt
scroll down until you find the name of the villager you wish to replace and change it. the dots between each letter are NOT periods! make sure not to delete them. if you do delete one, or if the villager you're replacing has too many letters in its name, you can copy a dot from another name and paste it between the letters or in place of the extra letters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
catchphrases are found in \ExtractedRomFS\Script\Str\STR_NNpc_habit.umsbt
step 5: editing birthdays, species and personalities
you may skip this step if you only wanted to edit the villager's name.
first, download this template.
then, open up \ExtractedRomFS\Npc\Normal\ConstPack.bin in 010 editor and click View -> Line Width -> Custom Width... and enter a value of 34 to make all the villager IDs align.
Tumblr media
next, click Templates -> Run Template and select the template we've downloaded. a list will appear at the bottom of the window. scroll through it until you reach the villager you wish to edit, (it will be highlighted in the top half of the window) mine being goa08.
Tumblr media
clicking the arrow to the left of struct VillagerConst will reveal a list of all the data this line contains. i will show you how to change birthday, species and personality.
Tumblr media
the page we downloaded the template on shows a list of "cases" for each field . for example, for the species field, we want tusker to be an elephant, which is case 0x01 on the page. we will thus type 0x01 in the u8 Species field of 010 editor. the same thing goes for the u8 Personality field. sisterly is 7.
the birth month and day simply require the date. tusker's birthday is may 1st, so i typed 1 in the u8 BirthDay field and 5 in the u8 BirthMonth field. leave everything else alone.
Tumblr media
step 6: putting them in the game
luma3ds makes it really easy to put your villagers into the game as long as you pay attention to the folder structure of the original rom.
on the root of your sd card, there should be a folder named luma, and within it a folder named titles (if there isn't, you can create it.)
within that folder, create a folder named with the title ID of your animal crossing game. that title ID will depend on the region of your game.
you can then create a folder named romfs in which you will place your mod files while respecting the path of theoriginal files. for example, the path for the models will be \luma\titles\<game title ID>\romfs\Npc\Normal\Model
when all the files are in place, pop your sd card back into your 3ds and open the game. if the villager isn't in your town, use wisp and an amiibo card (or wumiibo) to see if they show up properly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and that's it! enjoy your new villagers <3 feel free to tag me in your custom villagers, i'd love to see what you make!
did you find this tutorial helpful? you can buy me a ko-fi as thanks!

the sweet things in life (tsukishima kei x reader)
previous || next
chapter 11: weekend tournament
You were happy that you were on good terms with Mei and Moriko again. You had forgotten how nice it was to not have your entire life revolve around schoolwork and your club. Plus, you could tell them about all the guys without any judgement, since neither of them were volleyball fangirls (even if Mei seemed like she would be). As a matter of fact, you were texting Mei, trying to pass the time on the bus ride. The team was headed to Tokyo again, this time for a tournament. You were sitting next to Tsukishima (so as to not make the same mistake as you did on the way to the training camp), who was sitting stone-faced listening to his music and staring out the window.
You smiled when you noticed his side profile. He was one of those guys blessed with naturally beautiful, long lashes. It made you a little jealous that guys could have effortlessly outstanding eyelashes while many a girl struggled with theirs. The slope of his nose wasn't very defined, instead it was long and thin, but it still made his face alluring. And don't even get you started on his lips (that you definitely hadn't dreamed of having on yours). He was pretty. That was the best way to describe him, plain and simple.
He must've noticed you staring at him because when you snapped out of your dreamy daze his golden brown eyes were staring intensely into yours. It took all of your self control to keep from leaning in and kissing him. You maintained your manager decorum, of course. You knocked knees with him mockingly before turning away to see how everyone else was doing. You heard him scoff playfully and kick your foot.
You opted to ignore him, though, because Yachi was excitedly showing you some designs for a Karasuno volleyball 'logo' she had made for fun. She was a very talented drawer, and she had told you it was a real passion of hers. They were pretty impressive sketches, though some of them could definitely be improved.
That was able to pass the time, because sooner than you could believe the bus had reached its destination: a weekend tournament which had no effect on any of the other qualifiers or interhigh. Basically, it was just to serve as a fun and helpful side competition for teams to play with others.
Walking in, Kiyoko began to pull you and Yachi away from the rest of the team. You mouthed to Tsukki for him to 'save you a seat', though you have no idea if he even understood because he merely stared at you blankly.
You carried out all of your standard manager duties, though your load was about half of what it had been now that Yachi was becoming more established in her role. You guys met up with the other managers to consult with the referees and see what needed to be set up and brought. After, you filled up six water bottles and brought the carrying case up into the stands, where the boys were. You saw there was in fact a seat saved for you next to Tsukishima, with his bag in the other seat. It was kind of weird to not see Yamaguchi attached to his hip, but you couldn't say you weren't happy to see him save you a seat.
Maneuvering around some of the upperclassmen, you made your way over and collapsed next to Tsukki, setting the carrier in the seat next to you.
"Hey" you smiled cheekily at him, slightly exasperated from the trek you had just made. You watched as he side-eyed you before snickering to himself. You gave him a look and dramatically 'hmphed' before crossing your arms, mirroring him. He only shook his head and pulled out his phone. It was a touch screen, slightly newer than yours. You watched what he was doing over his shoulder, which was scrolling through a news tab and stopping on one about paleontology. 'Such a nerd' you thought to yourself. You lost interest and flipped open your phone to text your friends and half-watch the match below to try and pass the time before Karasuno would play.
"Is Fukurodani here?" you absentmindedly questioned, not taking your eyes off of your phone.
"Bokuto is on the court right now, (L/n)" Asahi lightly chuckled.
"Oops" you finally looked to the court and were unsure how you had ever missed him to begin with. He was just as loud and boisterous as he had been during the training camp. You swore you heard Tsukishima let out a signature 'tch', but you didn't dignify it with a response. You stuck your tongue out at him teasingly before you heard Daichi.
"Alright guys, we should probably start stretching" he stood up. The guys excitedly got up, and you put your phone away in your bag before standing. They would be playing some team you hadn't heard of before from Tokyo. You watched them do their regular stretches in the hallway before you all made your way into the gym so they could begin their warmups.
-----
After winning their first match, Karasuno would face Fukurodani. You were sure you could already hear Bokuto blabbing on about getting to play against Hinata and Tsukishima. Speaking of the tall boy, you had been mesmerized by him during the first match.
Kiyoko had put you in charge of marking stats, since Yachi still wasn't confident enough that she would do it right. You actually enjoyed it, even though it could sometimes take you out of the general excitement that the rest of the team felt because you had to focus. You stood next to Yachi, so that she could watch the game and help in case you missed anything (not that you ever did, you were a very meticulous manager).
Daichi was up to serve. Asahi, Tsukishima, and Kageyama were all in the front row, while Noya and Tanaka were in the back (Coach Ukai had decided to start with the regular lineup and would switch players out as the match progressed). You were doing a decent job keeping up with the boys fast-paced actions, though you paid more attention to the front row since that was the area that was usually hardest to keep up with.
That was when Tsukishima blocked the other player's opposite hitter. You quickly put a tally near his name under the block section (which he almost always had the most of) and looked up from the clipboard only to make eye contact with him. You felt your stomach drop and for a second considered the possibility that it could have been a coincidence.
You realized that was highly unlikely when the other team called for a timeout and he came to stand right next to you.
Takeda took the opportunity to give his own encouraging talk and congratulate the guys on their playing so far. You were doing your best to pay attention to him and nod along with what he was saying, when you felt a hand on yours bring the board up near your eye level. In awe, you looked up and were met with none other than Tsukki, eyes locked intently on the board for several seconds before shifting to you.
"What do you think you're doing?" you did your best not to trip over your words. It was hard when his giant hands were still over yours. You also kept your voice quiet so you wouldn't take eyes away from Takeda. He only gave you a snarky smirk.
"Just want to make sure you're actually paying attention" he whispered, and you swore you felt literal chills down your spine. He finally removed his hands from yours and it took all of your self control to not reach for one again.
This crush was getting ridiculous, but it was just so hard to deny.
The Fukurodani game was admittedly much more exciting, likely because they were better and you knew more of their players than the previous opponents. You brightly smiled at Bokuto as he excitedly waved at you and Yachi. Yachi's eyes widened at the attention and you gave her a playful jab. She looked over to you with an equally surprised look before smiling and even lightly laughing along with you.
You turned your attention to the court to see the regular starting lineup waiting for the ref. Glancing around to make sure everyone was in place, you locked eyes with Tsukki again, giving him a smile and a small wave. In return, he gave you a somewhat comical peace sign though you didn't know if he was smiling back. You had to hold back a laugh and even bigger smile by covering your mouth with your hand, which caused him to smirk and turn away.
Yachi jabbed you with a knowing look on her face, which caused your own to heat up. Clearly, you were being obvious.
As the match progressed, you kept tallying stats and conversing with Yachi whenever you could. You were happy that you were gaining a close girl friend that would be around the rest of your high school career, at the very least.
Things became interesting when Bokuto was in the front row at the same time as Tsukishima. As one of the top aces in Japan, it was no small feat to stop Fukurodani's captain. That was why you couldn't help but wince when Tsukishima stopped a nasty looking one. Bokuto sulked and made some dramatic remark about how he would never hit another ball again, but you were more concerned with the quiet middle blocker, staring at his right hand.
When it came time to switch sides, you picked up a carrier of water bottles along with the first aid bag. Kiyoko had always been the one in charge of the first aid kit, though recently Yachi had been carrying it to learn and practice with. She offered it up to you for this match in exchange for the job of handing out water to all of the guys. Once at the other bench, you set down the carrier to see whose bottles you had picked up. You felt a tap on your shoulder and looked to see that it was Tsukishima who wanted your attention.
"Can you wrap my hand?" He was holding it out to you, and up close you could see how red it was.
"It's my job" you joked, but examined his fingers to decide what the best course of action would be. You took the roll of bandages out of the kit and began to wrap his pointer and middle finger together. He watched you intently as you moved on to quickly fix up his pinky. You took a leap and placed a kiss on it when you were done, turning away before you could see his reaction.
Hinata caught sight of the two of you and bounced over to ask you to wrap his fingers, too. Tsukishima regained his composure and rolled his eyes before thanking you and stepping away. You were sure your heart was going a million miles a second.
With all of the guys back on the court, you were surprised to see the coaching staff and fellow managers staring at you.
"What?" you looked behind you, half expecting Coach Ukai's grandfather to be standing there the way they were looking in your direction.
"You should know, (L/n). He never asks to have his fingers wrapped." Kiyoko smiled.
"It's usually pulling teeth to get him to let anyone wrap them" Coach Ukai added. He only laughed and shook his head before turning his attention out onto the court and immediately getting into game mode.
Is that true?
-----
The guys lost to Fukurodani, but they had gotten the opportunity to try out several different lineups so none of you were too upset. After three more matches, Karasuno had unfortunately come third place in the bracket. As such, the team wouldn't be playing anymore that day, though they still wanted to stay to see what team would come out on top. The snack bar seemed to be calling your name. You were starting to get dizzy from how hungry you were, so you took some of your money with you and looked up at the prices. You decided on meat buns and only waited a little before the man behind the counter handed them to you.
You were in the middle of effectively stuffing your face when you felt a tap on your shoulder. With full cheeks you turned and were faced with Tsukishima, leaving you thoroughly embarrassed. He laughed a little at your ridiculous expression (he was still a rude teenage boy after all), though it didn't seem truly sinister when aimed at you. You swallowed as quickly as you could without choking on the bun and looked up at him expectantly. "Can I talk to you?" he questioned. His voice was low, and he was looking directly into your eyes. It was slightly unnerving.
You opted to nod, not fully trusting your words to come out. You thought it a little strange that he asked to talk and didn't just open a conversation with you like he normally did, but you waited for him to continue. A confused look made its' way to your face when he didn't show any sign of saying anything.
"I was hoping we could go somewhere that's quieter than this" he deadpanned, glaring at some poor preteen-aged kid who walked a little too close to him, loudly blabbing away about Nekoma. You quietly giggled at the look on his face and couldn't help but notice the imprint around his eyes from his goggles. It was cute, if not a little funny.
"After you" you bowed at him and followed him away from the snack bar and through the halls. On an entirely different note, this school made Karasuno seem tiny. It felt like forever before he finally stopped.
You looked up at him, trying to calm your heart at the realization that you were completely alone with your crush.
"I don't know how to say this without sounding like a loser" he suddenly interrupted. Your face immediately contorted into one of confusion.
"What do you mean?" you encouraged. "I want to be with you" he spoke, softer than before. If you had been drinking water, this would have been one of those moments where you spit it everywhere. No way...
"You know how hard it is for me to talk about how I feel. There's something about you that makes it so easy. And as much as it pisses me off, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you lately, (Y/n)" he went on. Was this a dream? Or were you dead? Maybe you were just delusional, that had to be it.
"I needed to just get this off my chest because I think I'll go crazy if I spend another day not telling you." You could've passed out, right there, right now.
Instead of coming up with a response to any of what he just said, you stood there like an idiot with your mouth open in shock. Because really, what can you say? 'Oh yeah that's great to hear. Not like I've been totally obsessed with you for a few weeks and thinking about you nonstop in a not-just-friends kind of way. And the other managers definitely didn't listen to me ramble on about you for twenty minutes uninterrupted. So yeah no that's awesome!'. You would totally scare him off!
"Are you just gonna stand there and make me feel like a dumbass or are you gonna say something back?" he sounded slightly annoyed. Your face fell at this, which he must've noticed because you heard him mumble a 'sorry'.
"You aren't a dumbass, Kei. I'm just surprised you feel the same way" you smiled. He covered his mouth, probably hiding his own. "I'll be with you" you finally answered definitively. You brightly smiled, and watched as he removed his hand from his mouth.
"Don't let it go to your head or anything" he feigned apathy. You playfully shoved him and then wrapped your arms around his torso in a tight hug. You felt his arms wrap around you and your heart fluttered.
You were overjoyed walking back towards your team's area in the bleachers, because now Tsukishima was by your side. Now that they were done playing, the majority were napping (save for Hinata, who was chowing down). The two of you sat back down in your seats, though now you sat closer to his. Your heart was still beating a mile a minute, so you settled for less physical contact and laid your arm on top of his that had already been on the armrest. You looked over at him, barely able to contain your smile. You saw the faint trace of a smile on his face. You let your head fall onto his shoulder, shutting your eyes in bliss.
The finals would see Fukurodani going up against a team you had heard some of the players talking about, 'Shiratorizawa'. Their reputation wasn't understated, they were amazing. Not like that was even close to the front of your mind at that point.

No, they are not changing their name to Saudi Arabian Airways, but there is a new development on the Saudi Arabian flag carrier front.
Tumblr media
That's right, Saudia is dead, sayonara you w-
No. That isn't true, that was a joke. But what isn't a joke is that Riyadh Air is a planned second flag carrier for Saudi Arabia.
Tumblr media
That's mostly a joke. Other countries have multiple flag carriers, though that comes with a couple caveats. Usually when this happens one is full-service and international while the other is domestic and/or low cost. The UAE has two flag carriers, but one is Dubai's and the other is Abu Dhabi's, which feels like an important distinction.
Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, just has decided they want to operate a second airline instead of doing the normal thing and putting all their resources into one really good airline. I don't understand it. The plan is to keep Saudia based in Jeddah while Riyadh Air is based in Riyadh...again, plenty of airlines have multiple hubs, so I don't see the point. They claim to be the first "digital-native airline", which is shaped like words yet means nothing (also, take that up with David Neeleman and Breeze). They've nabbed Etihad's old CEO and bought a bunch of 787s, and the stated goal is to become the largest carrier in the Gulf region at an unprecedented blistering pace in order to increase tourism. Given Emirates's numbers...well, it's probably still more likely to happen than a startup airline operating exclusively A380s managing to turn a profit, but that's not saying much.
Anyway, they've got a livery! Apparently this is the first of two, so expect a follow-up post when the second one drops, but for now there's plenty to talk about as is.
Unlike many - nay, most - of the subjects I cover, Riyadh Air has made me do absolutely zero research. You do get modern liveries like jetBlue and Lufthansa with little style guides to weakly attempt to back up their relatively mundane graphic design choices and things like condor and Icelandair's lovely little webpages, but Riyadh Air has done them all at least one if not several better by not only explaining in detail where they got their inspiration but also giving me a high-res 3D model of their airplane that I can rotate and zoom in and out on.
Take care; my computer is fairly underpowered and I do have an absurd number of tabs open most of the time, but this did crash my browser multiple times. Even just opening the main page of their website makes my CPU sound like it's spooling up for takeoff.
Okay. First I want to discuss the logo. They've got a video up on their thought process. I had transcribed it, but it looks better in motion, and thankfully they've stopped making it autoplay (presumably because, as I mentioned, this website absolutely guzzles processor as is) and in the process made it possible for me to simply left-click it off their website and into this post. Don't worry about it killing your browser. It's a normal video in a normal tumblr post without a 100 million dollar website chugging along in the background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I've taken some screenshots in case anyone does have trouble with the video.)
Now this is how you design a logo. The airplane window thing feels, in retrospect, so obvious I can't believe nobody had done it yet. I think it pairs gorgeously with the R, and I love that they chose to take inspiration from Arabic calligraphy, which is not only a massive point of pride for cultures which utilize the script but also just generally gorgeous. (It looks a bit like a stretched backwards hamza to me.) The shape of the bird's wing is the part I have the most trouble actually connecting to what I'm seeing, but sure, I'll give it to them. What the heck. This logo is nice.
I mentioned when discussing China Airlines that very few airlines use lavender as a primary color. Well, here's one that does! They actually discuss this on their website as well:
Inspired by the lavender blossoms that carpet Saudi Arabia, we've chosen this color because it symbolizes Saudi generosity and its authentic hospitality.
And this is, again, pretty fantastic. This is a thoughtful choice which isn't lazy or arbitrary. It has the potential to really pack a visual punch, and it does the thing I love when flag carriers do - references a feature of its home nation.
Tumblr media
An upside to the fact that the livery page takes eons for my computer to chew on is that I get shown this lovely loading screen, which demonstrates the fantastic combination of blues and purples which make up the full scheme of this airline's colors. I love the combination of these colors. Light saturated colors are rare enough, but to see extremely dark blues and purples together like this is a rare delight. It definitely has the potential to get eyestrainy, but if done well it could look absolutely breathtaking.
But will it be done well? After all, a good idea isn't always well-implemented - see condor - and China Airlines's livery fails for me because it's barely got any lavender! So does Riyadh Air fall into the same pit? Let's check the browser-destroying 3D model they've lovingly provided us.
I love that 3D model, by the way. Instead of looking for a bunch of pictures of airplanes that happen to be in the correct lighting and at the right angle to demonstrate the exact thing I'm attempting to discuss I can just...zoom in while putting the plane at the specific angle I want. Normally I actually try not to rely too heavily on things like style guides because a piece of flat-colored concept art isn't actually going to communicate how a plane looks in motion and with light on it, but this is a really really robust model. Sure, it's not quite as maneuverable as I'd like it to be, it's still not a perfect representation of real life, but it's really well made. It even sways side to side a bit and if you zoom in close enough you can see they bothered to model the external sensors and the engines are even turning! Don't worry about the fact that if you zoom in even further you can tell the engines are just a fan suspended floating in a cowling. They even added ambient engine sounds. This model is so cool it legitimately took me several minutes of turning it around and muttering "wow..." under my breath before I realized the environment it was sitting in was just some very stretched and crunchy jpgs.
Tumblr media
Mmm, those reflections.
To be honest, I also just enjoyed playing with this thing. It's almost like having a real model plane, but doesn't cost more money than I have! But enough of that.
Tumblr media
So they definitely didn't chicken out when it came to the lavender. This plane is as purple as a Breeze Airways plane is blue (it is very purple). It's not just a purple tube, though. Even from a distance you can see that there's added detail here.
I love the wordmark, first off. They've really committed to the billboard look with this gigantic text in both English and Arabic. I love it. With such an overwhelming main body color it feels prudent to make sure the name is as visible as possible so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
Tumblr media
And with this gigantic, recognizable logo plastered on the bottom you'd be able to identify it just as well from below (and this is zoomed out as far as the website let me!). In fact, the depth of the design really shines best from below. That's not necessarily a good thing, because your plane does have to be parked sometimes, but it's not a dealbreaker either. I just need to say that this is probably my favorite design for an engine nacelle, ever. It's gorgeous, and you can see in the first picture how well it flows into the main design. They don't go together quite as well from the bottom, and from below the plane does look a bit rear-heavy and the wordmark peering in is a bit awkward, but none of those ruin it. I would be stunned if I saw this fly overhead.
The website provides a few details about the design if you zoom in and click little black dots. It took me ages to realize this. It's neither intuitive nor accessible and I truly despise it, so I've taken the liberty of transcribing the bits that matter.
Tumblr media
You can turn this plane in any which way you'd like, zoom in and out, and the details on the bottom never stop being beautiful and coherent. It truly does remind me of calligraphy. As they describe it:
Rooted in our Heritage The controlled, smooth linear profiles make up our signature "Canopy Twist". A perfect balance of our rich local culture and our modern global outlook, connecting the city of Riyadh to the world.
I love the name 'Canopy Twist', to be honest. And I love the design, too. My one criticism of it is the colors. They already have an established secondary shade of purple. That they used the text color for the highlights makes sense, but why couldn't they have used their lavender instead of a third shade of purple? In the quantity used for the underside it feels disconnected from the rest of the livery and they could have fixed that very easily by just...using their already existing secondary shade of purple? I think it would make for a very nice bridge to the tail as well, and it just feels like a colossal missed opportunity.
Tumblr media
You may have noticed that the bulk of the fuselage body is a color a bit darker than what might conventionally be considered 'lavender'. This, too, is noted.
Indigo Livery Inspired by the ever-changing colors that paint the sky from dusk till dawn. A symbol of tranquility, harmony and integrity.
(This color is obviously purple, not indigo, but I will not belabor that point.)
I love the description, the idea of the transition between dusk and dawn. Much like the window as a basis for a logo, this makes me go "why in the world has nobody thought of that before? That's brilliant!"
Tumblr media
It makes me think a bit more could have been done in the details. Maybe the canopy twist could be a gradient, like the gradient of the sky while the sun is rising? Just a thought.
Tumblr media
And ultimately it's the canopy twist that is my only real sticking point with this livery. It is beautiful and unique and well-designed and it is simply a color that sticks out like a sore thumb. It's the only warm thing creeping into a design otherwise full of beautiful cool tones, it has gorgeous flow within itself but breaks up the feeling of consistency through the airframe as a whole, and I just...I really wish it were lavender.
Tumblr media
If that's my main issue you can do a lot worse. And overall I do like the Riyadh Air livery. If that one detail was changed, this would easily be an A. This review would be all but uncritical. Except for the fact that it could use a bit of canopy twist up top, too (maybe just a tiny bit on the top of the nose, flowing in the same direction) in order to make the plane feel less rear-heavy (though it already beats out the vast majority of liveries in that sense), the issue with the color is my only big criticism. But it's the main detail of the design, isn't it?
It's wild. So much of the time my reviews are "good details, bad when you step back". But this is the opposite. Fantastic, but there's that one detail that sticks with you. And the details by and large are far from bad too. I mentioned the nacelles, and I think it very elegantly transitions the tail into the body. It would be more elegant if the design on the body was the same lavender, though!
Tumblr media
A few more nitpicks: the centering of the logo on the tailfin is a little strange, the tail would look better if it had a bit of a gradient to make it less matte-seeming, and the combined effect of those is very luxury-hotel-towel-monogram. Okay. I'm done complaining.
Tumblr media
So it falls short of being one of the best I've ever reviewed, but I still really, really like it. The calligraphy inspiration creates these elegant sweeping lines that are perfectly at home on the 787. The deep purple looks luxurious despite the fact that Riyadh Air doesn't plan to offer first class. It's eyecatching. It's stylish.
And, now that I've covered all this, let's look at the colors in person! That's right, they've already had a plane delivered in full Riyadh Air colors.
Tumblr media
The deep purple with the lighter canopy twist, combined with the tiny white dots of the various probes and such, make this plane look like an animal camouflaging itself against the night sky in a place untouched by light pollution. The light lavender contrasts sharply in this particular image, sharply enough that it feels like a slice cut out of the plane.
Tumblr media
This continues to be an issue from other angles and in other lightings, but the cool-toned light makes this purple look like true indigo and the blueish cast improves the look, giving an almost fluorescent appearance to the transition between the twist and the tail. The way the light reflects off the dark paint makes it look rippling and shifting and alive in a way it never could off white.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In shadow, the plane looks as dark as a city sky. In light, the vibrant purple of a fresh eggplant. This paint job adapts wonderfully to its environment. Much like Vietnam Airlines's, each light brings out a unique beauty.
Tumblr media
And sometimes, the tail, detached though it may look, does so in the way a shining arm of a spiral galaxy neatly transitions into the black expanse around it.
Tumblr media
Riyadh Air's planes range from ultraviolet to supervoid, but they are never lost in their environment. The principles behind the design remain consistent, and beautiful, and alone in a sky full of planes which refuse to embrace the dark skies they fly in on red-eye journeys.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, I think Riyadh Air's livery feels a bit overdesigned. They added one color too many, and a few decisions feel like they don't belong together in the same picture. Just think about the amount of colors here, the balance of major features, and think about Vietnam Airlines, and you'll see what I mean. I'm not a fan of minimalism, but sometimes the only way to keep a story straight is to minimize loose ends. A secret becomes exponentially more likely to be exposed with each new person who learns it.
But before I looked closer, before I zoomed in and out on a little 3D model while my computer screamed, I saw this livery for the first time and my jaw hit the floor. And the average person isn't going to think about this the way I do. Ultimately, my critical eye is usually something I defer to, but I can't argue with the fact that this livery is going to be to someone else what China Airlines is to me. And, like China Airlines, when they come back and look closer at it they'll notice it wasn't as perfect as they thought, but...we've come so far, if this is someone's China Airlines. And as much as I nitpick at details the package counts, too. If you asked me why China Airlines got a C- instead of a D+, my honest reason would be...it struck me enough that I singled it out to begin with, even though that started to fall apart when I looked closer.
Tumblr media
Why am I giving Riyadh Air an A- instead of a B+? Because this plane will stun people 5,000 feet below it, and they'll think to themselves that it's the prettiest plane they've ever seen.

《 The world is surrounded by dreamlike minty hues, the sky an endless galaxy of stars shining above as the world seems to spin ever so slowly. 》
Have you figured it out yet?
This is starting to get reallllllly boring...I thought you said that the internet was supposed to be fun and limitless?!
Wait! Look!
《 As if on cue, the laptop turns on with a small chime, opening to a home page of an open field with nothing but a blue expanse above. How strange. 》
Thats weird...
There are so many buttons though!! Which one should we press first??? Wait- Aha..slow down, we dont even know what this thing is supposed to do yet.. I mean, it looks pretty simple! Whats the worst that could happen?
《 What would you like to click first? 》
☞ Internet Browser !!! Photos Solitaire Email
《 Omori carefully hovers the mouse over the internet browser, and gives it a hesitant click. Uncertain if it would actually work in this place. Whitespace seemed to have internet, somehow despite its emptiness. Maybe the Vast Forest would have some as well? Or maybe that was just wishful thinking. 》
《 As he clicks it, it opens a new window, and the first tab it opens on is a place called Tumblr...strange. Everyone seems to look at the computer with awe, seemingly dumbfounded by this new revelation. 》
Look at all of this...stuff.
There are so many people!! Look at all of these pictures and such!
Ooooh!! I wanna try!!
Wait, is it safe for us to be doing this?
I don't see why not! as long as we're careful.
How do we make an uhh...account?
It seems pretty simple! Ya just uh...wabam!
《 Without warning, Kel pushes Omori aside and proceeds to steal the mouse away from the other boy, sticking his tongue out in concentration as he continues to click everywhere, with a certain goal in mind that he isnt quite sure how to reach. Omori seems a bit miffed. 》
Kel!! Kel you shouldnt just shove people like that! Thats really rude! He was taking too long!
《 In the midst of their distraction, Omori carefully nudges his way back into his spot quietly, taking control of the situation and making an account for them all, albeit a bit hesitantly. Would this effect the world around them? Technically this wasnt supposed to be happening to begin with. 》
All of you quiet down, Omori has it all figured out!
《 The gang turns to look, their eyes wide with curiosity as they crowd around the laptop, leaving Omori to sit in the middle of it. 》
Woah!! Cool! What should we do with it? We should post pretty pictures on it too! What? Thats all you can come up with? I dont see you coming up with anything better!! Guys..look, theres a little inbox thing where people can ask you...questions i think? Or just send you stuff. Interesting... See?? That sounds way more fun than just posting silly photos! Kel...
Hgk, sorry.
What if we did both?? We could answer questions and send pretty photos!
《 The gang considers this for a moment. 》
I suppose i dont see why not, lets be careful what we post though! Even if it looks fun, it could still be dangerous. Alright!! Oooh this is gonna be so exciting!
I call dibs on decorating it!
What!? No fair!!
《 So the gang sets out to work, adding little bits and pieces to their new shared blog to make it theirs until it was eventually finished, with everyone feeling proud of their work as they stared at it with equal excitement. 》
And now...we wait.

Morning Arrives
Start | Prev
With the light returning, and Pat sleeping soundly next to you, you decide to go back to reading. You don’t feel ready, you don’t think you ever will, but you committed to reading it. You need to know.
You open your phone and pause for a moment. Is your home screen character also a ghost?
That would be kind of funny in a twisted sort of way…
You pull up your browser again and the tab with the story is still open, waiting for you.
She will ask you if you remember her. If you say no, you won't be able to remember anything ever again. If you say you aren't sure, she will let you go, telling you to return once you remember. As long as you never drive on that road again, you will be safe from her. If you return she will ask again, and won't accept the same answer twice.
If you answer yes, you will remember her. A classmate, a neighbor, a cousin… She’s someone you've known for a long time, a dear friend. You won't question why the girl in your memory never changes, never ages, is always dressed in blood. She won't let you question it, now that she's made a home inside your soul.
She will then collapse, bleeding heavily. She will ask you to remember her. You will promise that you will. Of course you will remember such a dear friend.
After this, you will return home, not thinking about how strange it is to leave her body there.
Then, she will haunt you.
You’ll remember her dying, of course you remember such a horrible thing. But she will also be right there with you, seemingly alive.
The discrepancy in your memories will be troubling. Some find they are unable to leave it alone, needing answers for themselves no matter what. If you are one of these people, you will ask around. Surely if you remember this girl, others in their life will remember too. Is she alive or not?
Other people will, of course, have no memory of the girl. This can’t be right. You’ve known her for years. They have to know her. Dead or not, they have to be able to remember her, right? They must be lying. You’ll tell them to look you in the eye and tell the truth.
Eyes are, of course, the window to the soul. The girl often likes to look out from her new home. And when she does and gazes into the souls of others, they too, will remember her.
Just one person remembering isn’t enough for her. She needs everyone to remember, so she can never be forgotten again.
“Watcha reading?” Pat’s sleep-rough voice makes you jump.
You aren’t sure how to answer them.
“What time is it?” Pat mumbles. They feel around on the nightstand for their phone, instead of looking at the alarm clock.
Once they have it and turn on the screen they grumble. “Okay that’s technically morning, I guess. Coffee time.”
They get up to fiddle with the coffee maker.
“Can you turn the light on, please?” they ask after a minute or so of fumbling in the dark.
You turn the light on.
Then you turn back to your phone.
“And don’t go back to reading. No self destructive behaviors until I’m more awake so I can intervene properly, please,” they call without turning around.
You set your phone down.
You feel… weird. Not scared anymore. Just sort of hollow and empty. The room is swaying ever so slightly.
You’re sure that’s nothing to worry about.
“Do you also want a cup?” Pat asks.
You shake your head.
You aren’t sure that they see it, but they don’t repeat the question.
Minutes pass in silence.
Pat returns with two cardboard cups. They hand one to you.
“I’m usually a no food or drink in bed sort of person, but desperate times call for desperate measures. You don’t look like you can stand long enough to move to the desk,” they say.
The cup is warm in your hands. It’s… grounding. It makes everything seem a little more real.
“So. You wanted to know about urban legends,” Pat says after they take a few sips of their drink.
You nod. It feels uncoordinated and strange.
“I did tell you we don’t do urban legends,” they say with disapproval clear in their tone.
“But. I can hardly get mad at you for being curious. If I were in your shoes I know I wouldn’t take ‘we just don’t deal with them because I said so’ as a deterrent,” they say with a shrug.
“So you’ll tell me about them?”
“Yep.”
“What’s the catch?” Pat typically doesn’t share information without making it some kind of game.
“No catch this time. When we’re dealing with something life threatening, you deserve to know as much as I do,” they say.
You don’t know what to say to that. Pat sets their drink down on the nightstand after another sip, and sits down on the bed.
“So. Urban legends. Most of them are just stories. Scary when told right, but for the most part harmless,” they say.
They pick their drink up for another sip.
“However. Sometimes the creators of these stories draw inspiration from real life happenings. Unsolved murders, real ghost sightings, things like that. That’s when it gets dangerous,” they say.
Your stomach sinks again when you hear ‘unsolved murder case’.
Pat is quiet for a while, sipping slowly at their coffee. You aren’t sure how much time passes.
“Sorry. I’m trying to think of a good example but. Eh. I’ll just use the hitchhiker we saw the other day. So. There are lots and lots of stories about phantom hitchhikers. But this one must have been about a person that actually died along that stretch of road. That person died suddenly, probably in an accident. They became a lost ghost,” Pat says. They mumble ‘at least I would assume so’ before continuing.
“But then someone heard about or saw the ghost on the side of the road, and connected it to the idea of phantom hitchhikers. That changes the ghost somehow. I…” Pat pauses, unsure. “I’m actually not sure how or why stories told about a ghost change the ghost. I think it’s because their existence isn’t particularly… solid… so the beliefs of others can affect them, but that’s really just my best guess.”
You don’t like seeing Pat be unsure of things. Them confidently knowing things is really the only thing you feel you can count on in this world right now.
“So it changes the ghost. Our fella goes from a confused guy who just wants to get home, to something more sinister. Because a ghost story is supposed to be scary. Now if you pick him up in your car, he’ll kill you. But if you ignore him, he’ll hunt you down. At least that’s how that type of story goes when I hear them. No right answer, no real way out,” they say, shaking their head.
“That’s what makes them dangerous. And the more people that hear the story, the stronger the effects get. And the more complicated. Because it’s a game of telephone. People add and subtract details until the ghost is unrecognizable from what they once were. Make them into a murderer they might not want to be. And people do die. You’re more likely to meet an urban legend if you’ve heard the story, but it only increases your chances. Not hearing the story won’t protect you. Especially if you’re a little psychic. Like us,” Pat says, gesturing between the two of you.
“Are they… do these urban legends know what they’re doing? When they kill people,” you manage to ask.
Pat looks perplexed. “What do you mean?”
“You said that being the subject of an urban legend can twist a ghost. Do they still have control over their actions? Do they choose it, or does the story make them act like a performer in a script?” you ask, getting a better hold on your ability to speak.
Pat’s mouth tilts to the side as they think. “I… don’t know. I’ve always thought of it as being like getting bitten by a zombie. I don’t think a zombie is the same thing as the person it was before it was bitten, but that’s just my philosophical two cents. I’ve never gotten the chance to ask one if they still know who they used to be or not. T-Ametrine usually gets to them first,” Pat says.
“Ametrine?” you echo.
“Yeah. She’s done quite a few. They’re a little different from normal exorcisms, because it’s hard to kill a story. She has to make people think she’s gotten rid of the ghost, and then once the story has lost most of its power she’ll uh. Get rid of the ghost, too,” they explain.
Before you have a chance to sink any further into fear and despair, Pat stands up again.
“Okay, that was a lot of talking. If you have more questions later you can ask em then. In the meantime don’t read any more scary stories. And start getting ready. We’re gonna go to Theo’s to make our murder board, remember?” they say, disposing of their now empty cup.
Yours is still full, radiating warmth into your hands.
“I remember,” you say.
“Then let’s get to it,” they say. They pick an outfit out of their suitcase and head into the bathroom.
You don’t want to be alone with your thoughts right now. So you simply refuse to think them.
You turn off Pat’s laptop and put it away for them, then pick out your own outfit so you can get ready when Pat is done.

the vacation
[1,377 words]
Katsuki Hated Traveling.
This was a known fact amongst the BakuSquad for years now, so whenever they all wanted to have a squad hang out, they traveled to him.
Eijiro was especially accommodating of this fact about his husband. Whenever their agency was called upon to assist on an away mission, Ei always made sure to head them up, and if anyone needed to be brought along it was labeled a ‘learning opportunity’ for their sidekicks.
Katsuki knew better, of course. He still hadn’t thanked his husband for it.
But…
Katsuki knew Eijiro better than himself most days, and he knew Ei was dying to go skiing with him. It was a trip his moms used to take him on every winter until graduation. Katsuki saw the skiing pages and travel accounts that Ei followed, living vicariously through the posted videos and pictures of the mountain powder.
They were approaching winter. Just two weeks ago, Eijiro had to take along two of their better sidekicks to assist on a mission that would have been easily handled by himself and Katsuki, if only Kats wasn’t averse to flying. Ei would never complain about the missions or ask what he knew Katsuki couldn’t give, but the dark bags under his eyes and the lengthy repair time to his costume spoke to its difficulty.
Katsuki simply didn’t like giving up control. At 26, he had never truely needed to—everything he could do on his own terms, he did. He decided when he was ready to confess to Eijiro, he decided when he was ready to open his own agency with his best friend and fiance, he decided what missions to accept.
Going with the flow was never his style to begin with, of course. The extreme aversion to it came with his first year at UA. Taken hostage by a suffocating sludge monster, kidnapped by their enemies, pressured to join the villains… if there was a way for Katsuki to avoid any chances of losing his control, he would always take that path.
He had decided to start seeing a psychologist his third year at UA. After the consistency of fight or flight situations began to dwindle, the amount of nightmares Katsuki experienced began to increase. He was reluctant to admit anything was wrong, of course, but he recognized that to be the number one hero he needed to be strong in every way possible–including mentally.
Truly, he had Eijiro to thank for that one. Everyone tried to knock some sense into Bakugo, tried to get him to see reason with this issue and recognize that, yes, he was struggling, and yes, it was okay to ask for help. Eijiro, however, repeatedly approached him with a kindness and openness on the subject that allowed Katsuki to recognise that if seeing a therapist was really, truly helping his best friend work through his own trauma and become a better hero all around, maybe it was okay for him to do so as well.
It had nothing to do with the fact that Katsuki had a soft spot for his best friend, not at all.
Since then, he and his therapist worked on coming to terms with what all happened to him, allowing himself to recognize the hurt and the trauma. Worked on moving forward from it. Slowly, the nightmares got less and less frequent, he was less skittish and less tense.
It had been about a year now since his last nightmare, and he and his therapist talked about doing a bit more exposure therapy with the control issues. Small things, to start–letting a barista choose his coffee for him, letting Ei plan his birthday celebration, letting his sidekicks take on small jobs without his supervision. Bit by bit, he was getting more comfortable letting others take over where he didn’t need to.
Looking out the window from where he sat in his office at the agency, he could almost feel the cool breeze rustling the leaves on the tree outside his window. He let out a big sigh, and opened a new tab on his browser to start looking for flights. He could plan for their trip to be in two weekends, from his rudimentary research into skiing locations and flights.
He spent another hour creating a rough itinerary for what a three day skiing weekend would look like (what, it was his company, he could do what he liked on company time), booking a resort, and getting flights. Outlining a trip made everything feel much more accessible.
Standing to leave, he doubled back to his desk and decided to call Quicklink into his office to let her know what he was planning. “Dynamight?” “Hey Link can you come in here for a sec?” “Sure boss, give me a sec.”
When he finished filling in his right hand sidekick on his plans, and getting cheered on for making them, he was feeling confident about his work, both for the actual agency and for his husband. Making his way home, he decided to pick up a few ingredients to make Eijiro and himself dinner.
By the time his husband arrived home (after taking some year 2 UA students out on a round with him) dinner was almost finished. Before the door even shut, a moan drifted into the kitchen before Eijiro did. “Katsss, it smells amazing in here. We haven’t had your spicy curry in forever, what’s the occasion?”
Hands slid around Katsuki’s waist and a kiss was placed on the nape of neck when he shrugged in return. “Oh no no, I know you, ‘Tsuki, what’s up.” The pitch of Eijiro’s voice dropped with question.
With a huff out his nose (and a smirk on his lips, his husband knew him too well,) he put the ladle he was holding down and spun in his husband’s grip. Looking up into Eijiro’s eyes, he clarified his shrug. “Nothing bad, Ei, don’t get yourself worked up. I have an idea, we’ll talk over food.”
Plates full and utensils set, they dug into their food. Eijiro repeated his groan. “Love, you need to start making this more again. Or teach me, I know it’s not the easiest dish and I would be happy-“ “Absolutely not. Last time you tried to make anything besides a simple breakfast..” Katsuki trailed off with a pointed stare. Eijiro grinned sheepishly at him. “Okay, okay, point taken. I still stand by my first point.” Katsuki snorted.
“So, I was thinking,” Katsuki started, finding the words he wanted to use to propose their vacation. “You usually are, Kats.” Ei poked him in the side to get him out of his head with a grin. With a glare, Katsuki continued, “I was thinking that we deserve a vacation.”
Eijiro lifted his eyes from where they were staring at his chopsticks holding another bite. “Yeah? You want to drive to the beach, or go camping where we went last time?” He popped his chopsticks into his mouth.
“No. I want to go skiing with you.”
Eijiro froze mid-chew. “Ski-“ “Finish your bite, you barbarian.” Katsuki chided, reminding his husband not to choke. Setting his chopsticks down, Eijiro leaned towards him. “Skiing? You know the resorts worth going to are best to fly to ‘Tsuki..” Katsuki nodded. “I know. I think I’m ready.”
Eijiro sat back, evaluating his husband. “You’re sure?” A nod. “You’ve thought this through, haven’t you?” Another nod. “And you’ve already bought the tickets and talked to Quicklink, huh?”
Damn his husband for knowing him so well.
He smiled. “I have.” His husband stood up, leaning over his chair, one hand on the table and the other on the backrest. Eijiro narrowed his eyes on his husband, evaluating. “You’re 100%, absolutely certain you want to do this?” Katsuki narrowed his back at Eijiro. “What do you think, Ei?”
After a beat, his husband broke out into a wide, toothy smile. Making sure Katsuki’s chopsticks were set down on the table, he grabbed his husband by the waist and lifted him out of his chair, spinning him around their living room. “You want to go skiing!” Katsuki couldn’t help a bubble of laughter escape him, stabilizing himself on Eijiro’s shoulders.
“Yes, yes, Ei, I want that to be our vacation.”

@fireandfae sent:
“Kingscholar!” He bursts through the door of the room, leaving the poor thing hanging by one hinge, though he’s far too excited to notice such insignificant details at the moment.
“Look what has been announced!” Without taking any notice of the fact that Leona is currently sitting in front of his computer, his stream turned on, he slams down a brochure for the nearby museum on the desk in front of him.
“They plan to devote an entire week to the topic of gargoyles.” His eyes are sparkling, as if he were a child about to be turned loose in a candy shop. “An examination of the history and evolution of the gargoyle from ancient times to the present.”
“Come,” He grabs at his elbow. ‘We must reserve our tickets at once - oh.” He finally notices the computer and spares it a fleeting glance. “Are you doing your - internet - things again?”
Tumblr media
The apartment for once, Malleus seemingly entertaining himself with a walk out in the town. Leona had wasted no time in setting up his stream when the dragon didn't immediately return, seizing the chance to have some privacy. Despite how random they could be, his followers always seemed ready to go, the number of watchers growing rapidly before he'd even finished his usual greeting.
Of course, all good things must come to the end, which came in the form of a sickening crack as wood splintered from the (very unnecessary) force of an impatient dragon. Leona only has enough time to pull his headphones off as Malleus starts rambling and showing off the gargoyle exhibit brochure.
Oh no. He knew that twinkle in the other's eyes. The same that a puppy had when presented with a new toy. The chat behind him could only swoon at the endearing sight, though Leona felt quite the opposite. After all, the other's enthusiasm didn't change the fact the big oaf had just broken down the poor door as if it hadn't even been locked.
Leona's lips part to try and scold the other for barging in and breaking the door... again. Before he can though, Malleus is already taking him by his arm, rearing to go buy tickets as if they would sell out at any moment. As if. It doesn't take long for the other to recognize he'd been busy with something, seemingly recognizing the screen and the unimpressed look the lion gives him.
When the other finally pauses, Leona's already shoving at his face to keep him from looking at the chat too closely. Thankfully by now, the chat's attention had shifted from lewd comments to laughing emojis mixed with excited exclamations about the dragon. Ugh. Once more, any chance of Leona continuing the stream was dead, already knowing he wouldn't be able to calm the chat down.
At least Malleus's appearance was getting him hefty donations, the numbers shooting up in the background as Leona stands up and starts to push Malleus towards the door. "I will when you fix my damn door. Didn't you learn after you broke the window last week," he snips back, shooting the dragon a glare.
One that wavers when Malleus's expression falls to one of deep disappointment at the sharp words. He looked like a kicked puppy, Leona thankful their faces weren't visible to the camera at this distance. With a roll of his eyes, he takes the brochure as he leans in just enough to mutter into the other's ear, "I'll buy the tickets after I finish here. Now quit yer moping."
With one final push, he gets Malleus out of his room, stubbornly looking anywhere but at green eyes so as to not see the other's reaction. He picks up the destroyed door, leaning it against the doorframe to give him some semblance of privacy (Never mind the fact Malleus's horns could still be seen from a crack at the top).
Turning back to the livestream, he can still see the heart emojis filling the screen, making him huff once more. "...Technical difficulties~," he dismisses, the sultry tone from earlier replaced with a serious one before he ends the stream. A beat passes before he opens another tab, typing in the museum's URL on the search bar. Stupid lizard.

'Shielding the other with their body' for Nat and Arthur if you're feeling it? - Nathan <3
after 10000 years @hellofanidea, here it is!
--
Arthur doesn't know how long he's been standing still. Long enough for the buzzing in his ears to go quiet, that much is certain. Everything is so silent now, more silent than the world has any right to be, the ambient noise cushioned by the thick blanket of snow covering all that there is to be covered.
Nevertheless, he's since learned not to trust it; it's deceptive. That's what makes it so alien. A silence like this doesn't immediately mean solitude, and he knows he's just inviting trouble simply by standing here, right in the open, where just about anybody can see him, without even a foxhole or a tree to hide himself behind.
But their newly put up Christmas lights are twinkling at him from their farm house windows, and it takes very little to allow them to mesmerize him into stillness.
"Oh, Arthur!" comes a sudden shout, followed by a muted sounding whump and the crunch-thud of a body taking a bit of a tumble into the snow-- all of it effectively shaking him out of his reverie. Suddenly, his other senses awaken all at once, and blinking up at the dizzying display one last time, Arthur swivels around and looks down, a laugh bubbling from deep in his chest at the sight of Natalie Morse, huffing and sputtering and sprawled across the ground, brushing snow out of her hair.
"That was rude, Matthew," she says to Arthur's sheepish little boy running up to them now, wringing his little glove-clad hands in apology. "What'd I tell ya 'bout aimin' those balls at people who don't know ya aimin' for 'em?"
"Not to do it," Matthew says, as he watches Arthur help his grump of an aunt up and out of the snow. "'M sorry, Papa. I really didn't mean t' throw it that far."
"Yeah, right."
"I didn't, Auntie Nat! I swear!"
"Aww, lay off the kid, Nat," Arthur tsks, finally getting her upright and dusting off the remaining bits of snow off her clothes. "He was jus' playin'."
"Playin' rough and unfair," Nat grumbles, reaching out to give Matthew an admonishing noogie. "C'mere--"
"No!" the little boy squeals and giggles, trying to get away but unable to escape. Dramatically, he flings his hands out at his other companions who're slowly approaching, breathlessly begging for help none of them seem willing to give him. "Daddy!"
"I'd getcha outta there, Matty," George says, grinning from ear to ear. There's snow in his hat, remnants of snowballs past, and several damp scarves in his arms, clearly cast aside in annoyance. Such is the reality of bringing children out in the snow. "But I gotta say you deserve it, right Tab?"
Tab smiles, hefting up his own bundle of squirming child in his arms. "She did tell you, Matty."
Matthew makes another breathless plea, half of it lost in a laugh. Natalie is relentless, though, moving on to tickling his sides until he's practically red in the face. Arthur thinks of intervening, even if they do look like they're having fun, but before he could, Matthew's most steadfast ally, Adelaide, puffs her cheeks out with jealousy, squirming out of Tab's hold to hit the ground running toward her mother.
"Nata!" she whines, flinging her little arms up at Natalie with a pout. "Up! Up!"
"Yeah, alright," Natalie relents, throwing a giggling Matthew over her shoulder to pick Adelaide up and tuck her under her arm.
The little girl squeals, absolutely delighted to be treated like a sack of wheat and not a toddler. "Nata zoom? Zoom!"
Arthur laughs at the look of exasperation that crosses Natalie's face. "You heard the lady."
"My back isn't what it used to be, ya know," Natalie grumbles, tossing Adelaide with practiced ease until the little girl was up on her other shoulder, hanging over her back with Matthew so they can whisper conspiratorially like a pair of deranged monkeys on a vine. "I'm goin' t' throw ya both into the nearest snow drift an' roll ya into a new snowman for Joe to see out the kitchen window."
The threat encourages more than deters, unfortunately, and Natalie takes off (in a jog that is more bounce than run, entirely made to draw giggles from the two children on her back) to do exactly as promised.

Short Tutorial On Exporting Pixelart As Icons In Aseprite
Do note this tutorial is Old and is not up to my standard now-a-days
This Tutorial is also On, Newgrounds & Steamguides!
"A little basic guide on how to Export your Pixelart as icons for use on your home computer! goes into Exporting the Icon from Aseprite and as Extra how to Change an icon on your Windows Computer"
Intro and infomation
I remember being really confused on how you'd export your pixelart and make it into icons.
so i thought i'd write down my know how on what i know about doing it!
see this more as a little walkthrough'ish guide with a little bit of into about .ico files sprinkled in over. hope you enjoy :>
Note: This guide is Also on Newgrounds[grat-grottenberg.newgrounds.com]
First and formost Make your icons! something like this ↓
Tumblr media
.ico Files comes in a few different sizes, i'll list them bellow (only inportent for older Windows Vista, 7 and Older says: Google atleast)
Standard Icon sizes (all has 24bit color, 8bit transparency) - 256 x 256 - 48 x 48 - 32 x 32 - 16 x 16 Extra icon sizes - 180 x 180 - 128 x 128 - 96 x 96 - 72 x 72 - 64 x 64 - 24 x 24
Though as the good reader you've already noticed that theres a 22 x 22 in the picture above and That size is not on the list
well thats because the sizes seem only to be importent for computers running windows Vista, 7 and Older. so if you're not on one of those OS..'es[?] then you should just be fine exporting at any size :>
Welp that was the info part done! Now to export your pixelart as an icon!
Exporting From Aseprite
Go to your Export Screen like you would any other time you've exported pixelart.
Tumblr media
But in your Export settings, Change the file type to be .ico and set the resize value to 100% aka the default size
Tumblr media
Clicking export it should just export without any problems.
Then you should just find a little .ico file where the export place is located like this
Tumblr media
(picture resized by 600% for your viewing pleasure)
Thats basicly it. i hope this was helpful, i sure needed some help on this, i remember using like 4 hours trying every "How to make png into Icon Tutorial" on youtube and still not having it work out. so hope this helps :>
but for people who havent ever changed an icon on their computer yet, i'll explain how to do that aswell
How to change icons on stuff 101 (Windows)
So to change an icon on something, like a folder, program. we first need to go to the files Properties (Note: "Egenskaber" is "Properties" in Danish)
Tumblr media
After clicking the Properties tab
A new menu should open up, in that you need to go Customize aka the last one (Note No2: "Tilpas" Means "Customize" in Danish)
Tumblr media
You need to click on the Change Icon button at the bottom of the menu, (Note No3: "Skift Icon means Change Icon in Danish")
it should open up the menu bellow
Tumblr media
You'll wanna click on the Browse button and find your icon on your Computer (Note No4: "Gennemse" means "Browse" in Danish")
i Have all my Icons in they're own Folder for easy access sence the Browse button remembers where you last found a Custom Icon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
finding and clicking and clicking the OK button, the icon should change the Icon of the Folder / Program / File
Then Remember to click the Apply button
Tumblr media
Then it should end up looking like this !
Tumblr media
And thats it! now you have your own Pixelart as an Icon on your home computer! More Reading / Resources
Wikipedia on .Ico files and .cur files (.cur files are for Cursors)
I hope this helped you! you can as always check out me on Twitter! and dont fear to DM me i'd love to see what you guys make! or if you guys have an idea on how to word something more clearly - @GratGrottenberg

scarred - part 3
masterpost
----
The new warframe still hadn’t exited his room after several hours. After half a day, he’d at least managed to make contact with Ordis through a texting application on the datapad, as he had dutifully let Kelth know. After a full day, Kelth had grown tired of sitting around, and decided that the warframe was more than likely harmless, since he hadn’t shown any tendencies to turn his inner turmoil into outward destruction. So, they’d restarted hunting for Ordis’ drives.
Kelth and Sufford were just on their way back to the Liset after picking up the third successive drive when Ordis pinged them through comms.
“Hey Ordis, what’s up?” Kelth asked, curious.
“Hello, Kelth, the new warframe has, erm-”
Alarms went off inside Kelth’s head immediately. Sufford’s easy jog changed into a run. “What did he do?” they asked.
“He hasn’t done- oh, nothing like that, the Orbiter is still in pristine condition!” Kelth breathed out a sigh of relief, but before they could relax entirely, Ordis continued: “He’s just, well, ventured into the Helminth ward.”
“Did he hurt himself?” Kelth asked, instantly back on edge.
“No, no, he’s just - Sufford may need to do his Helminth-communication thing again, because Ordis fears that I may have given the warframe some ideas.”
Sufford had reached the Liset by now and easily jumped in. Kelth would’ve liked to disconnect and go check things out on the Orbiter, but if he was in the Helminth room, there wouldn’t be much they could do except yell at the door from a safe distance. They’d need Sufford there to be their hands.
“What kind of ideas?” they asked instead. “Dangerous ones?”
“No, no- I think he might be trying to figure out the Helminth?” At Kelth’s baffled silence, he hastily continued. “Ordis was showing him the table projector, and as example, the reconstruction of what he originally looked like - which I realise now might have not been the best idea- too fucking late- but he didn’t seem necessarily upset by it? Rather curious, actually.”
“So now he’s arguing with the Helminth? About his design?”
“Ordis- doesn’t fucking know- thinks he might be? Not sure what else it could be about. He’s still sending Ordis messages, questions about resource values and how easy they are to get.”
“Well, oops, guess he doesn’t like how he looks,” Kelth said, hiding their unease at the situation under dry humour. “We’re almost there, Ordis, Sufford can go and check out what he’s up to.”
And he did, as soon as the Liset had once again docked with the Orbiter. In the Infested ward of the ship, the new warframe stood a safe distance away from the chair, typing away furiously at the datapad. His speed with it had improved significantly, Kelth noted. Then, he looked up to see Sufford, and without missing a beat, motioned him over. While Sufford did so, baffled, he expertly flicked open another window on the pad and typed out another message.
“This isn’t an unreasonable ask, right?”
When Sufford looked up at the other, confused, he took the pad back and moved over to another tab, showing him. It was a new version of his reconstructive projection, modified again to bring back the tails and wrist-fins, but now incorporating them into a removable coat instead of directly onto his chassis.
“Cost too much,” the Helminth groaned. “Unworthy.”
The scarred warframe let out a frustrated whistling sigh, tabbing back over to the text application and tapping out a new sentence.
“How can I convince it?”
Sufford took the datapad from him, awkwardly hovering his fingers over it.
“Ask him or the Helminth how high the costs are,” Kelth suggested, before humming, thoughtful. “Hm. The Helminth is practical, so it makes sense that it would reject a purely aesthetic change. You could always spin it to-”
Tersely, Sufford shoved something at them through transference. It wasn’t a transference function, but it was- oh, they could use the comms systems like that, too?
“Hello?” they spoke through his speakers. The other warframe startled back a little, snapping up his head to where the speakers were located on Sufford’s shoulders.
“You can hear me?” After a second, he nodded. “Good. I can’t be in this room myself or I’ll get sick, so we’ll just deal with that like this for now. Let’s see, how many resources did the Helminth say this would cost?”
He switched to another window with a list of resources already prepared, not insignificant but not as bad as his original repairs had been. “That’s doable-”
“Useless,” the infested mass interjected again. “Pointless.”
The other warframe hissed out his frustration. He didn’t even take back the datapad, but tapped at his previous question again. “How do I convince it?”
“The Helminth doesn’t listen to anything it doesn’t think is practical,” they began. “The gaps in your armour might’ve been patched, but it doesn’t look too sturdy, all torn-up like that - this coat could be like an extra layer of armour.”
The other stared at them for a minute. Through the datapad, he asked: “Armour for what?”
“What do you mean, armour for what?” Kelth asked, mildly concerned. “Did you- have you never been in battle?”
He carefully shook his head.
“Well,” Kelth said, baffled, “there’s not really a way around it? You’re a warframe, it’s, uh, kind of in the name. And outside of the few bases and allies of the Tenno, you’re likely to get attacked on sight, or worse, so it’d be better to be prepared.”
After another moment of frozen staring, the warframe typed out his next question. “I thought you said the Old War was over?”
“Yes? That doesn’t mean the system isn’t an absolute shitshow right now, though,” Kelth said. It was interesting but also worrying to see just how little this warframe knew of the current state of the system. Demonstrating their knowledge of the entire situation, explaining it like this, was kind of fun, though. “Grineer and Corpus are always in some kind of scuffle, the Infestation is everywhere trying to kill everything, and sometimes a huge Sentient on Uranus tries to cause trouble.”
The other’s body language communicated unmistakable surprise. Kelth gave a joyless chuckle. “Like I said - a mess. We see a lot of fighting.”
When the other didn’t make a move to type more words, they took the pad from his hands, meeting no resistance. They tabbed back to the new projection, humming as they considered it, rotating it this and that way. “This looks like it’d cover up most of the damage, while not hindering you from running, that’s good - nice design, by the way. Should be doable to get that shopping list filled in a day. You’re apparently capable of communicating with it, but since you haven’t had any luck haggling with it - Sufford, could you give convincing the Helminth a try, please?”
Sufford nodded, handing the datapad back to the other warframe and walking over to the Helminth’s mouth at the back of the room, sitting down in a meditative pose next to it.
“I can talk with you more in the lounge if you’d like,” Kelth said through the speakers, preparing to disconnect. “Sufford needs to focus for this, and he can’t do that with me here.”
When they saw the other warframe nod, they left Sufford to his task, and blinked open their own eyes in the somatic link.
“Hm,” Kelth said into the darkness of the closed device. “What do you think, Ordis?”
“He sure is a strange warframe,” he said immediately. “Painfully uninformed- missing a lot of context, it’s hard to gauge what is going on in his head. Your idea for the armour is sound, though, Ordis thinks.”
“Thank you,” Kelth said, “but I’m just basing it off of what I had originally assumed the coat to be for? I’m not really sure what he’d intended with it if not- oh,” and they winced a little, “he must’ve really not liked how he looked.”
“Maybe it’s the- broken, scarred- injuries he wants to hide,” Ordis said, before heaving a staticky sigh. “Ordis is afraid the glitch is getting worse again. Oh, I do hope it lets up again soon- not a fucking chance.”
“Hm,” Kelth said. “There are frames out there I’ve seen that do just look like that, but maybe for those, they’re not actually vulnerable spots - or maybe he just genuinely doesn’t like the look of them. Either way, the stuff he needs for it isn’t too much. Maybe we can even ask Kali, see if it has anything spare. And, hey, Ordis, we’ll figure it out.”
They patted the inside of the somatic link. Even if Ordis couldn’t feel it or even see, it’s not like they had many other options to reassure him.
“I hope we will, soon,” Ordis sighed. “Ordis is contacting Yura with the list that the warframe sent me earlier. The reply might not be instant, so you might want to go to the lounge instead, to talk to- oh, he’s just… walked through immediately. I guess he doesn’t want to chat.”
Kelth snorted. Maybe he’d improve after he got this coat and felt more comfortable. “That’s fine, he’s got you to talk to if he wants. Oh, then I might just go to my own room, see about getting a quick nap - finding your mystery drives is still taking a lot out of me with the focus, but it’s getting easier every time. Three in one go, this time!”
They exited the somatic link as Ordis stayed worryingly silent. “Ordis?”
“Don’t overexert yourself,” he said, seemingly on autopilot. “And- oh, nevermind.”
“No, no, what is it?” Kelth asked, concerned, staying right outside the somatic link for now.
Ordis sighed. “You finding these drives to find out what happened to Ordis is nice, and all, and that’s not to say that Ordis isn’t curious, but-”
“You’re worried what we’ll find?”
“Yes, I suppose.”
“Whatever we’ll find,” Kelth promised, “we’ll always be a team. Okay?”
Another sigh. “Ordis hopes that will be true, but there’s really no way to-”
“Hey,” they interrupted, putting on a stern tone. “Always a team. Yeah?”
He snorted. “Okay,” he said, smile breaking through in his synthetic voice. “Thank you.”
During Kelth’s nap, the requested resources had been supplied by Kali, and work on the new coat had been started. Three more drives later, it had been finished - but it wasn’t a great success, as it barely fit the warframe, who made it very clear that he was incredibly annoyed about this fact. Sufford said it might be ego, and was already starting to show doubts of how effective a warrior he could be, if he was that concerned over the fit of a simple coat. They defended the scarred warframe to him - he was likely just embarrassed about it, and they were convinced that if they could get him comfortable, he would loosen up significantly, and they could start testing out how he did with transference and figure out exactly how unfounded Sufford’s concerns were.
A few rounds of alterations by the Helminth later, and the coat already fit him much better. Kelth seemed to have had the right idea about him - he seemed much calmer with it, less likely to jump to annoyance and snappishness, less likely to stalk off to his room instead of hanging out in the lounge. None of the larger scars were visible anymore when he wore it, only some thinner lines sneaking out from under the edges. They pulsed with light like Sufford’s scar did, though much more intense - there was no layer of sword-still skin covering them like he had, for the simple reasons that there had been no spare material like there had been in Sufford’s case, and that adding even more foreign material was likely to decrease the frame’s mobility more than the coat would.
In any case, he seemed much calmer, much more stable, and Kelth figured it was as good a time as any to introduce new variables.
“Hey,” they greeted the still-unnamed warframe, who was sitting on the couch in the lounge, reading something on the datapad he’d solidly claimed as his. He gave a short nod in acknowledgement of them, not looking up. They remained standing, leaning casually forwards on their cane, hiding their nerves.
“Got a question for you,” they asked. Now, he did look up, so they continued. “There’s someone who’d like to meet you. Its name is Kali, and it helped a lot with gathering up your fragments and providing resources and credits to get you fixed back up.” The warframe remained entirely motionless, and Kelth didn’t know if it was in surprise or anything less nice, so they rushed to reassure him: “There’s no pressure, if you don’t want to meet it I’ll just tell it that, but I figured maybe you’d like-”
Before they could finish that last thought he was already nodding vigorously and navigating to the text application - they’d made painfully little headway teaching him sign so far, so text was still his primary method of communication. He only typed two words. “Sure, when?”

How to Use a Computer, Part 4: How to Use Mozilla Firefox
Firefox is presently the only major web browser that isn’t controlled by Google, so it’s my preferred browser as someone who hates giant multinational corporations that control everything.
In terms of general use, it’s not all that different from other web browsers-- type address or search term in search bar, press enter, click to go, that sort of thing.
Importing data from other browsers. The big thing people worry about when it comes to switching browsers is “will I be able to save my bookmarks, saved logins, and open tabs?” To do this in Firefox, open a Firefox browser window and either press ALT on the keyboard, or right-click in the space where the tabs show up and select “Menu bar”. Under File, select “Import from another browser”, then find the name of the browser you want to import from and select Next to choose what data you want imported; Cookies, Browsing history, Saved passwords, and Favourites.
Saved. That was easy. Now you can uninstall Chrome without remorse.
Add-ons and Extensions. You’ve got to use Add-ons and Extensions to get the full experience. All of the add-ons available from Mozilla’s website are free and most will safeguard your personal data. If you’re familiar with Google Chrome extensions, then there won’t be a learning curve.
In a Firefox browser window, type
about:addons
into the search bar. This will open your add-ons settings menu from where you can control, update, and remove add-ons that you have installed, and search for new add-ons. At the very bottom of the page is a button marked “Find more add-ons”, which will take you to Mozilla’s Firefox Browser Add-ons homepage. Have a look around, see what looks interesting, give it a go. Most add-ons won’t require you to restart Firefox, but if they do, the browser will save your history and any website logins to restore your session.
There are a few add-ons I would recommend installing immediately after setting up Firefox for the first time, all are related to privacy (Firefox is already the most secure browser in the world, these just plug any holes that might show up later).
uBlock Origin. This privacy multi-tool blocks trackers, cookies, and even advertising! If you’ve ever wanted to experience an ad-free YouTube, uBO is for you. uBO will also prevent content networks from tracking you across the internet. More to that point...
LocalCDN. It’s Decentraleyes on steroids. Its sole focus is emulating corporate content delivery networks (CDNs) without actually accessing them, adding an extra layer of privacy as most CDNs are able to personally identify your computer based upon the content it requests. This reduces their ability to profit off your existence while still allowing you to use the internet as normal. It’s a large install-- 17 GB-- because it doesn’t rely on offsite resources to do its job. That’s why it’s called “Local” CDN. Everything is carried out on your computer, and nowhere else.
Privacy Badger. Another trackware blocker, made by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. This one is different from uBO in that it can pick up on new trackers that people who make uBO lists may not know about yet, by analysing the behaviour of the website and any scripts it runs. Basically, it does what trackers do, but it does it to the tracker instead of the user. This next one isn’t related to privacy, but...
SingleFile. Are you given to datahoarding? Good on you! So am I. If you want to hoard webpages, SingleFile can condense a webpage into a single HTML document for easy storage.
DownThemAll. If you’re not interested in downloading the webpage, just the media on the page, DownThemAll can do that. Either you can tell DTA the kinds of files you want to nick from a page, or you can create a download queue by giving DTA the links to things you want to download.
Now, if you’re serious about privacy, all of this can take you pretty far, but, it won’t protect you against thieves who just straight up steal your computer. As a certifiable paranoid freak, I’m aware that I live in a world full of people who might just walk right up and whisk my laptop away while I’m drinking my coffee. You really should consider not leaving tabs open or staying logged in across multiple sessions. I know there are certain extenuating circumstances; like work or school assignments; but for just general use, consider changing the settings to make Firefox delete your cache automatically when you close the browser.
It’s selective; you can tell it what data to delete and what to preserve; but at the very least allow Firefox to log you out of websites when you close it.

...and navigate to the “Privacy & Security” tab, then scroll down to “Cookies and Site Data” and check the box that says “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed“. If you have a website that you want exempted from this rule, such as Tumblr for instance, click “Manage exceptions” and enter Tumblr’s URL into the text line, and click “Allow”. If you change your mind later, you can delete it from the list.
Next, scroll down to “History” and change it to “Use custom settings for history”. If you want to stay logged into websites, retain content settings, or other things that are stored in local cookies instead of on the host server, click “Settings” next to “Clear History when Firefox Closes”, and check or uncheck the boxes next to the desired items.
Firefox has loads of built-in customisation options, such as font overrides, light mode and dark mode, and themes, so have a look around. For right now though, that’s it. Tune in next time when we talk about how to install game software from disc media and the basics of how to install game mods.
