bad idea right? (bokuto x reader)
this has been in the drafts for a while, sorry! it's based off of the olivia rodrigo song of the same name :)
also the osamu x reader is still coming but bokuto just always find his way back into my brain <3
warnings: suggestive themes (nothing explicit), language?
wc: 1670
--------------------
why on earth would you do this to yourself?
you're on your way to your lecture on ancient rome (yay). it's a distribution requirement, and it's one of the only classes that takes attendance, so you have to actually show up to lectures to pass (otherwise you definitely wouldn't). it's just your luck that it's a 9 am, so you have the pleasure of being up bright and early. days like this make you wonder why you didn't just get this class out of the way freshman year. it had seemed pointless at the time, but you were immensely regretting it now that you were one of the only juniors in it.
much like other days you have this class, you make yourself more presentable in an attempt to encourage yourself to not feel half-dead. this mostly entails ditching your normal comfortable sweatsuit for a nicer ensemble. you also opted for some makeup and spent more time on your hair than usual; all to say that even though you feel like death, at least you're smoking hot.
you put your phone away once you reach the building your class is in. walking through the front doors, your eyes immediately fly to a familiar white-gray and black hairstyle.
it had to be him. the even more familiar back all but confirms it.
koutarou, your ex-boyfriend.
you'd broken up with him a few months ago for several reasons, with one being most apparent: you were sick of always coming second to his sport. he was always busy with volleyball, which was something you were willing to accept at first. it became an issue for you when he would stand you up on dates because he had stayed at practice longer than he should've, or when he'd hang out with his teammates more than he did with you.
knowing him, he definitely hadn't been doing these things on purpose. unfortunately, he was entirely oblivious when it came to most things. he can't help the way he is, and you would have felt like a bad person if you asked him to change.
that's why you decided to let him go.
there's still a dull ache in your chest when you think about him. it turns into a painful throb that targets your heart (and something else in your joggers) when you see him in person. you're feeling it now as you try to avert your eyes from him, but it's like there's an invisible force keeping your gaze trained on him.
you breeze past him, turning around to see if he notices you. to no surprise, he's staring directly at you, his gorgeous eyes piercing your soul. he's always had a knack for sensing your presence, though you're the same way with him. every time you see him, your stomach fills with both butterflies and pain.
unfortunately for you, you run into him more than your better judgement would probably wish for. the two of you met by being in a few of the same classes though, so it only made sense that you still see him so much in passing. and that he's in this same lecture because he didn't have the time in his schedule to take it earlier on, which is actually what made you somewhat excited for this class back when the two of you were still together. now it's just a nagging reminder of what you no longer have.
oh, and of course he plays on the renowned men's volleyball team, so it's impossible to avoid his face on the posters that are literally everywhere.
you take a seat around the middle of the class and try to clear your mind from the one man that never seems to leave it. out of the corner of your eye, you see him sitting down on the opposite end of the hall, though in the same row. roughly 20 auditorium seats are between you and your ex. you don't dare to look over until you notice another figure appear on the same side: a relatively cute looking girl sits down merely two seats away from him.
you aren't together anymore, you shouldn't be annoyed at this girl (who was probably entirely innocent, but out of everywhere in the lecture hall she had to sit there?) for just attending class.
but you are.
head now buried in phone, you check the weather app and aimlessly tap on different apps, searching for anything to distract you from this whirlwind of emotions you're feeling.
you look up one last time, to get a better look at the girl of course.
he's already looking at you.
maybe it wasn't a good idea to decline your roommates offer to join them going out. that way, you wouldn't have had so much time alone with your feelings. you certainly wouldn't have access to the box in the bottom of your closet, which holds sentimental items from kou that you haven't been able to bring yourself to throw away.
now, you've pulled that box out and begin to go through it on the floor of your bedroom.
the box is filled nearly to the brim with things he'd given you over the course of your relationship. cards for valentines day and other important occasions, a bracelet he had a matching version of, a stuffed owl he bought because supposedly it 'reminded him of you'. the worst part though were the printed out pictures, polaroids and the like.
staring back at yourself when you were far happier than you are in this moment is like a punch to the gut. the familiar lump in your throat worsens as you flip through more of the pictures, each one reviving memories of fun experiences and reaffirming your love.
the two of you at some random frat party, out to dinner with friends, one taken by a campus photographer that you printed because his face looked totally goofy.
your palms began to sweat when you got to a certain photo.
the picture was taken with one of the team manager's digital cameras, giving a slight fuzzy quality, but you still remember everything about the moment. it was of you and him after his team had won a particularly big tournament. he had been so happy (and sweaty), and ran to find you to see if you saw him. after confirming that you did, in fact, see him and that you were very proud of him, the manager caught you and offered a picture to commemorate the win.
so, your handsome boy wrapped his arms around you and smiled brighter than the sun, causing you to do the same, head comfortably on his chest. this one had always been one of your favorites. kou always loved it too. "my two favorite things in one picture! what's not to like?" he'd say.
those words echo in your mind. he would've been willing to make it work. he had told you as much when you broke things off, but you were clouded by negative emotions at the time.
if you look deep within yourself, you know that you aren't over him. the love you two shared was like no other, even if it had only been for a little over a year.
sometimes, it takes all of your self control to keep yourself from texting his number (which you probably should've blocked by now).
unfortunately, you don't have very much self control today, and your phone is within reach of the mess you've made of the items from the box. your fingers move faster than your brain even can, and when you blink again you're staring directly at a blue message.
'i miss you'
the contact name causes your heart to drop, wondering what just possessed you to send that. you feel your stomach flip and throat run dry, tears threatening to run down your face. three dots suddenly appear and you hold your breath when you see the message.
'i miss you too'
a rogue tear finally falls down from your eye. is this what you want?
'come over?'
your fate is sealed.
you have the entire drive over to think about what it is you're doing. there are several opportunities for you to turn back, but you never do.
no one else, save for him, knows what exactly you're doing. you haven't texted any of your friends to consult with them, because they would probably call you crazy. you're just reconnecting though, what's so wrong with that.
yeah, you're delusional.
pulling into a spot on the street, you stare up at the house of the volleyball team, a place you used to frequent often. it used to fill you with excitement, though now looking at it your heart is pumping anxiety into your chest.
walking up the path, your thoughts are racing.
is this what you want? to be the kind of girl who folds so easily for her ex?
but that's not necessarily who you are, you don't fold easily for your ex.
it's for koutarou bokuto, the love of your life.
he's worth folding a million times over.
maybe that's why you never blocked his number, or threw away the box with memories of him in it. maybe it's the real reason you always spend so much time getting ready for a 9am: you knew you would see him, and you wanted him to see you.
you knock lightly, hands shaking as you do so.
you're praying that one of his other teammates doesn't answer the door. not to say you didn't like his teammates (you did, actually), you just don't trust yourself to follow through if one of them asks why you're there. you'd probably immediately bolt back to your dorm building if that happens.
seeing you tonight…
it's a bad idea right?
when you're starting to regret this, the door swings open. there stands the most attractive man in the world, hair unusually down, likely from just having taken a shower. that would also explain his lack of shirt, leaving him in sweats that you do your best to keep your eyes away from (for now). your favorite part of this entire image is his face, relieved smile and gorgeous eyes perfectly dilated to take you in.
you can't help but crash into his waiting arms.
fuck it, it's fine.

accidental perfect match (kirishima eijirou x reader)
masterlist
happy halloween!
this is my first mha related post! I love kiri so who better than him <3 hope you like it :)
----
so far, college had been the most draining experience of your life. that's why you were relieved when it finally came time for halloween: the quintessential college holiday. it being your freshmen year, you were excited to get a taste of your first official 'halloweekend'. in fact, you had spent the past hour getting ready with a few of your friends, now making the trek down to the frats.
for your costume, you had gone with the totally-not overdone barbie from the new movie (that you'd gone to see three times when it first came out). specifically, you chose the one from the rollerblading scene, mostly for the cute, bright colors. it was a win-win because it kept you somewhat modest while also exposing enough skin that you wouldn't be entirely overheated.
you didn't fully commit, as you were without the rollerblades themselves, though the entire walk down to frat row made you thank your lucky stars you weren't barreling down any hills. there were tons of other people out walking, and the closer you got to the houses the more people there were. it was nice to see everyone in costumes
you ended up getting in to a house through one of your friends (who claimed she knew a "mirio"), even though the guy at the door probably would've let you in anyway. your friends were much quicker than you and made it through the door faster than you.
upon walking in, you decided to head for the living room. the room was bathed in a deep purple from led lights, along with random 'spooky' decorations thrown haphazardly all over the space. there was beer pong set up on some cheap folding table to the far side of the room, while in front of you some people were playing flip cup. you decided to just watch, not really in the mood to get start drinking just yet.
you were intently watching flip cup for who knows how long, when there was a commotion from the beer pong players. a blond dude was raging and threw down one of the plastic cups (it looked like he had missed), while his teammate on the other side was standing there typing away on his phone. the general volume of the room caused the already chaotic scene that the blond guy was making to amplify, reaching a high when you heard an excited yell and watched a guy wearing rollerblades barreled into the table and broke it in half.
he was wearing a costume almost identical to your own.
the angry blond looked like he was going to murder the man that was now sprawled out over the table and now-crushed cups. he started telling him off, and even over the loud music and dozen other people talking you could hear him yelling obscenities, as the man on the ground only laughed and removed the skates. that was when the blond somehow felt unfamiliar eyes staring at him and looked up directly at you. his eyes widened for the briefest second before you saw his eyebrows knit in confusion, looking between you and the guy on the ground. you could barely make out the way he began talking to him in a much more level tone and-
he looked over at you. you barely registered as he rose to his feet and started to walk over to you. your eyes widened, and you started to look around the room for either of the friends you came with. to your horror, they were nowhere to be found. you shift your eyes back in front of you and your stomach sinks as you make direct eye contact with the redheaded stranger.
"i like your costume" he grinned. you were immediately drawn to his smile, with strangely sharp teeth that seemed slightly unnatural. you couldn't ignore how attractive he was though, even in the dark room you were entirely captivated by him. his gorgeous red eyes caught your attention, and you couldn't help but notice a tiny scar above his right one.
"i wasn't brave enough to actually wear the skates" you quietly laughed, causing his smile to become even brighter. he leaned in closer to hear you better, and you felt your heart skip at the close proximity to such a handsome man. sure, lots of guys at college were somewhat attractive, but this one was entirely sexy, for lack of a better word. "that was quite a stunt".
"would you believe me if i told you i'm completely sober right now?" you looked at him incredulously. no way…
"i believe you" you blurted out before you could even think of a response. he chuckled at the slightly embarrassed expression on your face, and you swore you could see a slight pink tint to his cheeks.
"i'm glad i have a beautiful barbie's trust" he smoothly responded, though not in a creepy, overly-flirty way. it was sweet.
"well this barbie's name is (y/n)" you attempted to flirt back, though you slightly cringed at the unnatural way you said it. you were literally acting like a character straight out of a cheesy rom-com. he didn't seem to care though,
"eijirou" he slightly bowed. you were coming to find he was quite the gentleman. the two of you shared some more small talk, though most of it was spent intently gazing into each others eyes and feeling your heartbeat against your ribs.
"can we get a picture?" you finally asked. you had been thinking about it for most of the conversation, that this was just too perfect a coincidence to pass up. he gave you another one of his big grins before pulling his phone out and taking several pictures. it was definitely going to make your instagram. you quickly typed your number into his phone and smiled when your phone buzzed, looking down to go through the pictures.
"will you dance with me?" he suddenly spoke again. you looked up in slight shock and then nodded your head, unable to keep the involuntary smile from breaking out over your face. you had been smiling so much with him tonight that your cheeks were on fire. it was so worth it though.
"yes" you were able to verbalize, just loud enough so he could hear you. you were suddenly so aware of the speakers booming in the backyard, the structure of the house vibrating and filling your body with an exciting rush.
"give me a second". you watched him in slight confusion as he turned around, staying in the same spot he was in. he pumped his fist in happiness and yelled:
"sublime!"
you definitely have a big, fat crush.

toxic boy mom (bokuto koutarou x reader)
masterlist
this idea just randomly came to me. I love bokuto and domestic stuff so I hope you enjoy this too! sorry for any errors :p
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
your bed is so much more comfortable than you remember. that's what makes it so hard to get up in the morning, especially when your husband's warmth is still present even when he's gotten up to go for his morning run. for a moment, you feel peace, and it's almost as if you're a kid again, waking up on the weekends and having no responsibilities.
a high pitched squeal breaks you out of your immersion from a life you haven't known in years. the truth is that you do have responsibilities now, to both your husband and your children. reluctantly, you leave the warmth of your bed and head out of your bedroom right across the hall, into your son's room.
the blankets on the bed are rustled, and the bed itself is empty. the crib on the other hand is still housing your littler baby. when he catches sight of you, he excitedly kicks his feet while he begins to drool and babble 'mama', making other noises too.
your beautiful 14-month old, koushin, can be quite the noisy baby (he's more mellow than his brother, however). his facial structure and eye shape reminds you of your own, while he has your mom's eye color. that doesn't mean you can't tell he's a bokuto ; he's always hungry and always laughing. you pick him up and kiss his face all over, causing him to giggle happily and squeeze his mama.
you hear the television from downstairs playing some saturday morning cartoon, and decide to go see how your other son is doing. carefully making your way downstairs with koushin, you catch sight of your other little boy: wrapped up in a blanket and sprawled out on the sofa.
your older son kenji is nearly an exact replica of his father. he has dark hair with bright, golden eyes. the only way you can tell he's not just your husband but tiny is the small birthmark beneath his left eye. it's a little dot that if you look closely enough at is in the shape of a heart. sometimes, you still see him as that little baby that first made you a mother five years ago. he's much bigger now, of course. both of them make your heart swell with love and appreciation for the little family you've created.
"good morning kenji, what are you up to?" you ask. you rub koushin's back which causes him to snuggle closer to you.
"watching tv mama. i'm hungry" he tells you. you set koushin down on the floor in front of his brother, making sure that both of them will be safe and entertained. kenji is always good about looking after his brother, so you aren't worried. you smile and kiss kenji's head before making your way to the kitchen.
your boys love pancakes, so you make the mix and pour it into a pan. you decide to fry up some sausage as well, and while waiting you take the milk out of the fridge and pour it into a glass and sippy cup.
a certain someone makes it back from his run just in time for breakfast. the first thing koutarou notices after taking his shoes off are his two sons in the living room, playing with each other. he can't help but grin at the sight.
"hey hey hey! how are my two favorite guys?" he yells, picking up koushin and tickling him. the baby laughs wildly at all of the excitement his dad brings.
"dad come play cars with us!" kenji begs. bokuto sets his younger son down and grabs a monster truck before making overexaggerated car noises (you can't convince me he wouldn't be this kind of dad).
you laugh at the sudden spike in the noise level, something you've become used to being married to koutarou for several years (and having known him for even longer). right now, you're setting up the high chair for koushin, where you've put cereal puffs and cut up the sausage into small, bite-sized pieces. it's usually not a good idea to set his food down after he's in the chair, because he's known to become quite rowdy and throw the food off of the tray (which was something you learned the hard way on spaghetti night). once you were done setting that up, you made sure everyone else had plates out.
"breakfast is ready!" you shout, almost immediately hearing fast footsteps over to the table. by the time you turn around, kenji is already in his seat and koutaro is holding koushin again.
bokuto sets koushin in the high chair, where he immediately grabs a handful of cereal puffs and shoves them into his mouth. he chuckles before turning to you, expectantly. you give him a deadpan look and wait for him to make a move towards the kitchen to fix his plate, but it seems he's doing the same.
"make your plate yourself koutarou, you're a grown man" you tell him as you walk over to kenji and make sure he has what he wants before you sit next to koushin. normally you would have no problem getting his food for him, but you're preoccupied with the kids right now and he is entirely capable of serving himself. like you told him, he's a grown man.
you swear his hair nearly deflates as he immaturely pouts. you don't back down, though, and turn your attention to your kids. koutarou unwillingly goes to make his own plate. one thing is unfortunately clear to him: koutarou is jealous of your children.
he loves his kids more than anything of course (except for you who he loves just as much), he just doesn't understand why you show all of your attention to them nowadays and not as much to him. he actually does understand that part, because he has the cutest kids in the world. it's not that he wants to be jealous of them, it's just sometimes he misses when you weren't spread so thin.
what he doesn't understand is that it's not your choice to be showing him less attention. motherhood is tiresome, since your kids demand your attention every waking moment. since you've started working from home to be able to take care of your children, you've been engulfed with tasks around the house. you're tired all of the time no matter how much sleep you get, and you feel like you haven't had time to yourself in forever. it's something that your husband doesn't seem to notice, though he's always been painfully oblivious. he hasn't even noticed you haven't gotten a plate for yourself in an effort to make sure your kids are taken care of.
that is until after he starts eating from his plate, and notices you still watching koushin.
"honey, aren't you going to get a plate?" he asks. you look at him in slight surprise that he even noticed.
"in a minute" you say, though he can tell from the tone that you definitely won't be moving a minute from now. he pushes out his chair and heads to the kitchen, plating some food before making his way back to the table and pushing it in front of you. you look up at him and he can see the exhaustion written in your face.
"go lay down my sweet. breakfast in bed! i'll take care of the boys" he tells you in his happy-go-lucky tone. your eyes fill with surprise and you look to your children before shifting back to your husband.
"are you sure?" you question him seriously.
"of course. only the best for mom" he gave you a kind smile, the very one you had fallen in love with years ago. it's always able to make you feel better. somewhat reluctantly, you take your plate up to your room and head back to bed, shutting your eyes peacefully.
unbeknownst to you, bokuto is going to work downstairs. while the kids are preoccupied, he pulls out the vacuum and starts to deep clean (or at least the bokuto version of a deep clean), putting dishes away and picking up toys. it takes him several hours, but the house looks perfect by the time he's done.
"hey boys, want to help dad make dinner tonight?" he yells to his two sons, who both excitedly agree. he decides to make something simple but that he knows you'll enjoy. he's no chef, but he's willing to push his limits for you.
he lets kenji help out more than koushin (because what kind of dad would he be making a baby cook dinner? actually that could be interestin-), and soon enough they have dinner plated and ready to bring upstairs.
kenji carries the plate, while koushin brings a flower from out back. koutarou knocks on the door as a formality before opening the door to see his beautiful wife, reading a book. you place a bookmark in it before looking at your little family in shock.
you encourage them to come closer so you can see what they've made. the plate looks wonderful, and your heart feels full with love for your adorable babies.
"oh my goodness, this looks amazing! did you do all of this for me?" you ask. your little ones nod, causing you to smile even brighter. you pull the two of them into a hug before kissing both of their heads.
"my perfect, sweet boys" you rub their backs before looking up and meeting eyes with your husband. similarly to breakfast, he has an expectant look on his face.
"and you too bo, i guess" you joke, pretending to add it as an afterthought.
your children burst out laughing at the dejected look on their father's face. he nearly had tears in his eyes and a huge pout.
"you're toxic! toxic!" he suddenly points and sticks his tongue out at you.
"kou i'm not a toxic" you say. you can't help but shake your head at his antics.
"yes you are. you're a toxic boy mom and you can't tell me otherwise."
"i can't be a toxic boy mom if we only have sons?"
"i don't care. you're a toxic boy mom who favors your boys over me" he pouts.
"you're a big baby sometimes, you know that?" you roll your eyes in disbelief. you can't help but laugh at his ridiculous behavior, but it's one of the reasons you fell in love with him in the first place. you give him a kiss before digging into the dinner they so graciously made for you, while your kids start teasing their dad that you like them more as he argues back.
sometimes it feels like you have three kids in this house.

the sweet things in life (tsukishima kei x reader)
previous || next
chapter 11: weekend tournament
You were happy that you were on good terms with Mei and Moriko again. You had forgotten how nice it was to not have your entire life revolve around schoolwork and your club. Plus, you could tell them about all the guys without any judgement, since neither of them were volleyball fangirls (even if Mei seemed like she would be). As a matter of fact, you were texting Mei, trying to pass the time on the bus ride. The team was headed to Tokyo again, this time for a tournament. You were sitting next to Tsukishima (so as to not make the same mistake as you did on the way to the training camp), who was sitting stone-faced listening to his music and staring out the window.
You smiled when you noticed his side profile. He was one of those guys blessed with naturally beautiful, long lashes. It made you a little jealous that guys could have effortlessly outstanding eyelashes while many a girl struggled with theirs. The slope of his nose wasn't very defined, instead it was long and thin, but it still made his face alluring. And don't even get you started on his lips (that you definitely hadn't dreamed of having on yours). He was pretty. That was the best way to describe him, plain and simple.
He must've noticed you staring at him because when you snapped out of your dreamy daze his golden brown eyes were staring intensely into yours. It took all of your self control to keep from leaning in and kissing him. You maintained your manager decorum, of course. You knocked knees with him mockingly before turning away to see how everyone else was doing. You heard him scoff playfully and kick your foot.
You opted to ignore him, though, because Yachi was excitedly showing you some designs for a Karasuno volleyball 'logo' she had made for fun. She was a very talented drawer, and she had told you it was a real passion of hers. They were pretty impressive sketches, though some of them could definitely be improved.
That was able to pass the time, because sooner than you could believe the bus had reached its destination: a weekend tournament which had no effect on any of the other qualifiers or interhigh. Basically, it was just to serve as a fun and helpful side competition for teams to play with others.
Walking in, Kiyoko began to pull you and Yachi away from the rest of the team. You mouthed to Tsukki for him to 'save you a seat', though you have no idea if he even understood because he merely stared at you blankly.
You carried out all of your standard manager duties, though your load was about half of what it had been now that Yachi was becoming more established in her role. You guys met up with the other managers to consult with the referees and see what needed to be set up and brought. After, you filled up six water bottles and brought the carrying case up into the stands, where the boys were. You saw there was in fact a seat saved for you next to Tsukishima, with his bag in the other seat. It was kind of weird to not see Yamaguchi attached to his hip, but you couldn't say you weren't happy to see him save you a seat.
Maneuvering around some of the upperclassmen, you made your way over and collapsed next to Tsukki, setting the carrier in the seat next to you.
"Hey" you smiled cheekily at him, slightly exasperated from the trek you had just made. You watched as he side-eyed you before snickering to himself. You gave him a look and dramatically 'hmphed' before crossing your arms, mirroring him. He only shook his head and pulled out his phone. It was a touch screen, slightly newer than yours. You watched what he was doing over his shoulder, which was scrolling through a news tab and stopping on one about paleontology. 'Such a nerd' you thought to yourself. You lost interest and flipped open your phone to text your friends and half-watch the match below to try and pass the time before Karasuno would play.
"Is Fukurodani here?" you absentmindedly questioned, not taking your eyes off of your phone.
"Bokuto is on the court right now, (L/n)" Asahi lightly chuckled.
"Oops" you finally looked to the court and were unsure how you had ever missed him to begin with. He was just as loud and boisterous as he had been during the training camp. You swore you heard Tsukishima let out a signature 'tch', but you didn't dignify it with a response. You stuck your tongue out at him teasingly before you heard Daichi.
"Alright guys, we should probably start stretching" he stood up. The guys excitedly got up, and you put your phone away in your bag before standing. They would be playing some team you hadn't heard of before from Tokyo. You watched them do their regular stretches in the hallway before you all made your way into the gym so they could begin their warmups.
-----
After winning their first match, Karasuno would face Fukurodani. You were sure you could already hear Bokuto blabbing on about getting to play against Hinata and Tsukishima. Speaking of the tall boy, you had been mesmerized by him during the first match.
Kiyoko had put you in charge of marking stats, since Yachi still wasn't confident enough that she would do it right. You actually enjoyed it, even though it could sometimes take you out of the general excitement that the rest of the team felt because you had to focus. You stood next to Yachi, so that she could watch the game and help in case you missed anything (not that you ever did, you were a very meticulous manager).
Daichi was up to serve. Asahi, Tsukishima, and Kageyama were all in the front row, while Noya and Tanaka were in the back (Coach Ukai had decided to start with the regular lineup and would switch players out as the match progressed). You were doing a decent job keeping up with the boys fast-paced actions, though you paid more attention to the front row since that was the area that was usually hardest to keep up with.
That was when Tsukishima blocked the other player's opposite hitter. You quickly put a tally near his name under the block section (which he almost always had the most of) and looked up from the clipboard only to make eye contact with him. You felt your stomach drop and for a second considered the possibility that it could have been a coincidence.
You realized that was highly unlikely when the other team called for a timeout and he came to stand right next to you.
Takeda took the opportunity to give his own encouraging talk and congratulate the guys on their playing so far. You were doing your best to pay attention to him and nod along with what he was saying, when you felt a hand on yours bring the board up near your eye level. In awe, you looked up and were met with none other than Tsukki, eyes locked intently on the board for several seconds before shifting to you.
"What do you think you're doing?" you did your best not to trip over your words. It was hard when his giant hands were still over yours. You also kept your voice quiet so you wouldn't take eyes away from Takeda. He only gave you a snarky smirk.
"Just want to make sure you're actually paying attention" he whispered, and you swore you felt literal chills down your spine. He finally removed his hands from yours and it took all of your self control to not reach for one again.
This crush was getting ridiculous, but it was just so hard to deny.
The Fukurodani game was admittedly much more exciting, likely because they were better and you knew more of their players than the previous opponents. You brightly smiled at Bokuto as he excitedly waved at you and Yachi. Yachi's eyes widened at the attention and you gave her a playful jab. She looked over to you with an equally surprised look before smiling and even lightly laughing along with you.
You turned your attention to the court to see the regular starting lineup waiting for the ref. Glancing around to make sure everyone was in place, you locked eyes with Tsukki again, giving him a smile and a small wave. In return, he gave you a somewhat comical peace sign though you didn't know if he was smiling back. You had to hold back a laugh and even bigger smile by covering your mouth with your hand, which caused him to smirk and turn away.
Yachi jabbed you with a knowing look on her face, which caused your own to heat up. Clearly, you were being obvious.
As the match progressed, you kept tallying stats and conversing with Yachi whenever you could. You were happy that you were gaining a close girl friend that would be around the rest of your high school career, at the very least.
Things became interesting when Bokuto was in the front row at the same time as Tsukishima. As one of the top aces in Japan, it was no small feat to stop Fukurodani's captain. That was why you couldn't help but wince when Tsukishima stopped a nasty looking one. Bokuto sulked and made some dramatic remark about how he would never hit another ball again, but you were more concerned with the quiet middle blocker, staring at his right hand.
When it came time to switch sides, you picked up a carrier of water bottles along with the first aid bag. Kiyoko had always been the one in charge of the first aid kit, though recently Yachi had been carrying it to learn and practice with. She offered it up to you for this match in exchange for the job of handing out water to all of the guys. Once at the other bench, you set down the carrier to see whose bottles you had picked up. You felt a tap on your shoulder and looked to see that it was Tsukishima who wanted your attention.
"Can you wrap my hand?" He was holding it out to you, and up close you could see how red it was.
"It's my job" you joked, but examined his fingers to decide what the best course of action would be. You took the roll of bandages out of the kit and began to wrap his pointer and middle finger together. He watched you intently as you moved on to quickly fix up his pinky. You took a leap and placed a kiss on it when you were done, turning away before you could see his reaction.
Hinata caught sight of the two of you and bounced over to ask you to wrap his fingers, too. Tsukishima regained his composure and rolled his eyes before thanking you and stepping away. You were sure your heart was going a million miles a second.
With all of the guys back on the court, you were surprised to see the coaching staff and fellow managers staring at you.
"What?" you looked behind you, half expecting Coach Ukai's grandfather to be standing there the way they were looking in your direction.
"You should know, (L/n). He never asks to have his fingers wrapped." Kiyoko smiled.
"It's usually pulling teeth to get him to let anyone wrap them" Coach Ukai added. He only laughed and shook his head before turning his attention out onto the court and immediately getting into game mode.
Is that true?
-----
The guys lost to Fukurodani, but they had gotten the opportunity to try out several different lineups so none of you were too upset. After three more matches, Karasuno had unfortunately come third place in the bracket. As such, the team wouldn't be playing anymore that day, though they still wanted to stay to see what team would come out on top. The snack bar seemed to be calling your name. You were starting to get dizzy from how hungry you were, so you took some of your money with you and looked up at the prices. You decided on meat buns and only waited a little before the man behind the counter handed them to you.
You were in the middle of effectively stuffing your face when you felt a tap on your shoulder. With full cheeks you turned and were faced with Tsukishima, leaving you thoroughly embarrassed. He laughed a little at your ridiculous expression (he was still a rude teenage boy after all), though it didn't seem truly sinister when aimed at you. You swallowed as quickly as you could without choking on the bun and looked up at him expectantly. "Can I talk to you?" he questioned. His voice was low, and he was looking directly into your eyes. It was slightly unnerving.
You opted to nod, not fully trusting your words to come out. You thought it a little strange that he asked to talk and didn't just open a conversation with you like he normally did, but you waited for him to continue. A confused look made its' way to your face when he didn't show any sign of saying anything.
"I was hoping we could go somewhere that's quieter than this" he deadpanned, glaring at some poor preteen-aged kid who walked a little too close to him, loudly blabbing away about Nekoma. You quietly giggled at the look on his face and couldn't help but notice the imprint around his eyes from his goggles. It was cute, if not a little funny.
"After you" you bowed at him and followed him away from the snack bar and through the halls. On an entirely different note, this school made Karasuno seem tiny. It felt like forever before he finally stopped.
You looked up at him, trying to calm your heart at the realization that you were completely alone with your crush.
"I don't know how to say this without sounding like a loser" he suddenly interrupted. Your face immediately contorted into one of confusion.
"What do you mean?" you encouraged. "I want to be with you" he spoke, softer than before. If you had been drinking water, this would have been one of those moments where you spit it everywhere. No way...
"You know how hard it is for me to talk about how I feel. There's something about you that makes it so easy. And as much as it pisses me off, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you lately, (Y/n)" he went on. Was this a dream? Or were you dead? Maybe you were just delusional, that had to be it.
"I needed to just get this off my chest because I think I'll go crazy if I spend another day not telling you." You could've passed out, right there, right now.
Instead of coming up with a response to any of what he just said, you stood there like an idiot with your mouth open in shock. Because really, what can you say? 'Oh yeah that's great to hear. Not like I've been totally obsessed with you for a few weeks and thinking about you nonstop in a not-just-friends kind of way. And the other managers definitely didn't listen to me ramble on about you for twenty minutes uninterrupted. So yeah no that's awesome!'. You would totally scare him off!
"Are you just gonna stand there and make me feel like a dumbass or are you gonna say something back?" he sounded slightly annoyed. Your face fell at this, which he must've noticed because you heard him mumble a 'sorry'.
"You aren't a dumbass, Kei. I'm just surprised you feel the same way" you smiled. He covered his mouth, probably hiding his own. "I'll be with you" you finally answered definitively. You brightly smiled, and watched as he removed his hand from his mouth.
"Don't let it go to your head or anything" he feigned apathy. You playfully shoved him and then wrapped your arms around his torso in a tight hug. You felt his arms wrap around you and your heart fluttered.
You were overjoyed walking back towards your team's area in the bleachers, because now Tsukishima was by your side. Now that they were done playing, the majority were napping (save for Hinata, who was chowing down). The two of you sat back down in your seats, though now you sat closer to his. Your heart was still beating a mile a minute, so you settled for less physical contact and laid your arm on top of his that had already been on the armrest. You looked over at him, barely able to contain your smile. You saw the faint trace of a smile on his face. You let your head fall onto his shoulder, shutting your eyes in bliss.
The finals would see Fukurodani going up against a team you had heard some of the players talking about, 'Shiratorizawa'. Their reputation wasn't understated, they were amazing. Not like that was even close to the front of your mind at that point.

chapter 10: group project
You were finally back to class after your summer break had ended. The training camp had concluded a few weeks ago, and you spent the rest of your summer break relaxing. You had started texting Tsukishima more, and attended the practices within the last week to continue your club obligations. Much more often now, you would intently stare at the boy while he practiced (some would say to a creepy point, but you digress). There was just something so mesmerizing about the way he played, his tall frame and long appendages moving like a well-oiled machine. He sometimes caught you staring and smirked, causing you to look away.
At your desk, you could tell out of the side of your eye that he was looking at you. When you turned your head to look back though, he was facing forward with his headphones up waiting for your teacher to begin. Speaking of your teacher, she had an announcement.
Your teacher had decided on a group research project for a predetermined topic in biology. Each group would be given a different topic and you would have to present your findings to the rest of the class. The teacher would also (unfortunately) be choosing the groups. You were surprised (and a little upset) when you heard Tsukishima's name called with a random guy and girl, and then Yamaguchi with two other guys you didn't know. Which obviously meant none of you would be working together.
You were put with Mei and Moriko, the friends you had made on the first day. You hadn't really talked to them a lot since becoming a manager. There was the odd texts with either of them here and there, greeting them in school when you saw them. But you hadn't been as close with them as you would have wanted.
In fact, you weren't sure if getting partnered up with them was as good of an idea as you first thought, because when you walked into the library they merely stared at you like you had three heads. You ignored their stares and set your things down, sitting down in a chair across from them as you did.
When you looked back up at them, you first made eye contact with Mei. She quickly looked down to avoid your gaze, twirling a piece of her hair through her fingers and typing away on her phone. She had gotten a new touch screen one, with a cute little flower charm attached to her sparkly case. It certainly fit her personality. Plus, you noticed her hair was a little shorter, and she had cutely curled it.
"Mei your new haircut is super cute" you tried as an opener. She looked up at you briefly and gave a small, uninterested 'thanks' before looking back down to her phone. She's always been a texting freak but never one to be outright rude with it, so this was out of character for her.
Clearly getting no positive response from her, you turned to Moriko, though she was the less friendly of the two so you weren't really expecting anything sweet from her. You opened your mouth to say something to her, but you watched her take her textbook and hide behind it. She literally just put a 'wall' between you and her.
"Is something wrong? I'm really trying here" you asked dejectedly.
"You haven't had time for us, we get it. I guess." Moriko coldly explained. Neglecting your friendship with the two was coming back to bite you, that much was obvious. Personally, it kind of annoyed you just how seriously they were taking you simply ignoring them for the volleyball team, but the kinder side of you understood how it might feel to be put on the back burner.
You didn't bother responding to them yet, instead flipping open your phone and opening your messages with Tsukishima.
(Y/n) this project is a literal nightmare
what should i do? they totally hate me right now
You bounced your leg in slight anxiety. Usually you would be okay handling these situations on your own, however it was much harder considering these two weren't thinking very highly of you right now. You felt like you wanted to throw up, since their unfavorable stares at you were sending shivers up your spine. You had already texted him and were anxiously waiting for a response.
Kei You're asking me for advice with something like that? Idk just try to talk to them, why would you ask me
(Y/n)
but ur the nicest person i know! :D
You could barely hold in a snicker at your obvious joke that he was sure to comment on. Hell, that was the reason you'd sent it with the goofy emoticon.
Kei
I didn't know you were a pathological liar
That or you just don't know any other people
Use your annoyingly effective charm
You couldn't help the smile on your face. It was hard to not smile whenever you talked to him. Honestly, you were barely aware of your surroundings.
"Who are you texting?" Mei asked genuinely. You shifted your eyes back up to look at her, half surprised to hear them speak to you. Moriko glared at her, communicating to you that it seemed like they had initially agreed on ignoring you. You decided to use it as an opening to try and get them to talk to you.
"Tsukishima" you shortly responded. Mei gave you a funny look, but seemed intrigued by the answer nonetheless.
"The blond one from our class, right? The jerk I've seen you hanging around?" Moriko questioned you, clearly unimpressed. She already knew who Tsukishima was, everyone in Class 1-4 did. In class his snark was definitely more toned-down, but that didn't mean he wasn't still cocky to other students when he had the opportunity. During the school day he was just quieter, opting to save his attitude for practice.
People in your class knew he had the potential to be rude, but that was a side of him you had been seeing less and less more recently. "Yeah. He isn't as big of a jerk as everyone thinks he is" you fondly said. It would be a miracle if someone somehow couldn't tell you had a gigantic crush on the boy. It wasn't really something you tried to hide anyway. You weren't to the level of having a secret shrine for him or picking flowers to see whether he loves you or loves-you-not (though you might have been getting close). And you totally hadn't written 'Tsukishima Y/n' with a heart when you were bored during calc.
"I find that extremely hard to believe" Moriko again responded, scoffing. "I know it doesn't seem like it, but he can be sweet under all of his attitude" you slightly joked, though you realized they likely only saw the attitude.
"Tell us about him, then" Mei encouraged (in a much kinder tone than Moriko's), "try and explain yourself". Explain yourself? The way she phrased it was a little strange, but you began to ponder the topic anyways.
You thought back to training camp. Your quiet conversations, long embraces, walks through the school grounds, the field where you and him breathed as one. It made your heart flutter all over again, filled to the brim with saccharine memories and an attractively tall, smart, handsome blond with an ego. You thought back to laying in your bed at night, the sun long set under the horizon leaving the sky with dazzling stars and the breathtaking moon in full view. You were on the phone with Kei, sometimes talking, sometimes enjoying the silent company of the person neither of you could see. Both staring up at the same moon.
Those were always the hardest nights to hang up.
"Geez, you're obsessed with him aren't you?" Moriko asked before you even had the time to vocalize any of this. You showed your confusion, before she responded that, "the goofy grin gave it away".
You felt your face heat up in slight embarrassment, though Mei smiled at your plight.
"That's adorable. You totally love him!"
The L word definitely caught you off guard, but you didn't bother correcting her or commenting on it.
"It's hard not to like him when I see him so often. I deal with him in class and at practice"you tried to defend yourself, though the two giving you knowing smirks showed that there really wasn't any point.
"How about you guys tell me about your love lives since you're so interested in mine?" you attempted to get the attention off of you. You and Tsukishima somehow became the center of conversations a lot, actually. To your question, the two looked at each other for a few seconds and laughed. You were a little confused on what that meant. Rather than elaborating, they opened up their textbooks and started reading. You decided to not ask anything further than that. Only a few minutes later, Moriko made a comment about this new place to eat and all of you were distracted again.
You guys barely got any of the project done that day, but it didn't matter. You had strengthened your relationship with the two, and the work could wait.

chapter 9: pool
A few practice matches occurred the following day. You couldn't keep your eyes off of a certain blond, and often you'd find him also looking at you in between rallies. You assisted your team, congratulating them and giving them constructive criticism for what they could work on. They played particularly strongly against Nekoma earlier, and it was clear that the training camp was benefiting them greatly.
Kiyoko had sent you to fill the water bottles, since the boys' current game against Ubugawa was only a few points from being over. You brought the carriers out into the hallway and filled them up individually, which was an admittedly tedious and boring task. It honestly seemed to be taking much longer than it should've, the water pressure seemed a little low. After what felt like forever, and you were sure the game must've been over by now, you were done with the last bottle. You screwed the cap on and readied yourself to lift the carriers.
"Need some help?" a voice came. You turned to see one of the Shinzen players, the captain actually, if you weren't mistaken. Ogano was his name.
"No actually. But thank you" you responded. You weren't weak, and the bottles really weren't that hard to transport due to the carriers. He didn't seem to want to let it go though, determined to feel like a manly-man or something like that. As though you weren't more than capable of doing it yourself.
"Really, I insist" he said, attempting to take one of the carriers off of your arm. You attempted to keep it away from him, resulting in a struggle between the two of you. He pulled hard enough to both break the handle off of the carrier, causing half of the bottles to break open and leak onto the floor, while also pulling you forward to him and causing you to lose your balance.
Basically, you fell forward onto the now soaked ground, landing on you palms which now stung and overall getting your clothes wet. You didn't really have time to understand what had just happened. You heard the boy stuttering out apologies and further trying to help you, but you just ignored him. You tried to fight back the tears that threatened to leak from your eyes, and mostly succeeded. It's just that your knees and palms hurt now, and you were pissed.
"Get away from her" a familiar voice came from down the hall. Ogano tried to explain himself and the situation to whoever the quickly approaching person was. You thought you recognized the voice, but it was very uncharacteristic of the boy you thought it was to yell. When the figure finally got to the two of you, he shoved Ogano away and told him to leave for a second time. You looked up at your savior with teary eyes, and Kei caught your attention. He was still sweaty (and probably thirsty, considering the lack of water bottles due to this incident), looked exhausted, and even a little out of breath. But he was there for you, so you swallowed the lump in your throat and tried to ease your mind.
He then gazed down at you with a pitiful expression, like judging you for weakness. You looked away, deeply embarrassed and upset that he had seen you like this. Surprisingly, he knelt down in front of you while avoiding the water, and placed his hand on your back.
"That guys an ass. Don't even waste your time thinking about this" he bluntly stated. It made you feel better. You accepted his outstretched hand, and attempted to wipe the excess water off of you. He offered his sweat towel, which caused your face to twist in disgust despite the fact that you were the one that looked like a wet dog.
"I haven't used it yet, relax" he said. He wiped your eyes with the hand not around your shoulders. After your face was dry, he stood up.
"Thank you," you couldn't really communicate just how appreciative you were. Especially from him.
"Don't let people walk all over you" he said, holding his hand out for you to grab. You gratefully accepted it as he brought you to your feet. He never took his hand out of yours.
"I'll walk you to your room."
You smiled.
----
As it turned out, there was a pool at Shinzen. As a way to cool down, teams were allowed to go there after the practice matches were done for the day and before it was dinner time.
Up in the managers room, all of you were changing into your swimsuits. You complimented Yukie's (respectfully she's fine), and in return she told you how yours looked amazing on you.
After your interactions with Tsukishima, you were more than excited and hoped that he would be down in the pool as well, while hoping Ogano would skip out on it (though he was a teenage boy so you highly doubted it). You had no doubt that Kuroo and Bokuto would be there already, Akaashi was the only one you weren't too sure about. Your Karasuno boys would definitely be enjoying the pool, and likely most of the other teams might have some guys there too. The guy-to-girl ratio was of course a little questionable, but the large majority of the guys respected you all so you weren't too concerned.
When you got down there, though, it certainly was a sight to see. A majority of all the players from every team were already in the giant pool (picture this as just an indoor high school pool). Some of them were playing water polo, some were racing, and a few were wading. Some of the guys weren't even in the pool, Kenma was sitting and playing his handheld while occasionally observing the tomfoolery in the pool. Some of his teammates were trying to get him to join them, but he seemed to want no part of it.
Bokuto slammed the water polo ball down, causing Lev to jerk aside and give up a point, which in turn caused Yaku to shove his face down into the water. Kuroo burst out laughing at the torment of his underclassman. You noticed Ogano in a race with another Shinzen player and cringed. You would definitely steer clear of that side of the pool. On the other end of the pool, you made eye contact with Tsukishima, who was standing next to Yamaguchi. You gave a small smile and wave and he didn't react. You decided not to take it personally.
You set your towel down before stepping down the ladder. You decided to stay in the shallow end due to most of the deep end being taken up by the water polo game. You headed over to Yamaguchi and Tsukishima, receiving some 'ooh's' from the other managers, though Yachi decided to follow you. The two were standing on the incline between the deep and shallow end, likely because the water wouldn't even reach past their waists if they weren't. You walked over (extremely slowly) to the two.
"Hey (l/n), hi Yachi" Yamaguchi said. You smiled at him and gave a brief 'hey' in response as Yachi's face heated up and she nervously waved. You stood near to Tsukishima, who you now noticed up close didn't have his glasses on. He squinted down at you, so you moved closer to him to try and make it easier for him. He quietly complimented your swimsuit. Your heart fluttered at the attention from him. You thanked him just as quietly and turned to see the interaction between Yamaguchi and Yachi, which was just as shy as you would expect.
You watched them with a very smug look on your face, which Tsukishima noticed (because he hadn't taken his eyes off of you).
"What's up with you?" he whispered. You gave him a side eyed glance before reaching up and cupping your hands.
"She likes him. I think it could work" you whispered in his ear. He huffed out a laugh and turned to look at the two. Yachi looked incredibly embarrassed, stuttering her way through their conversation. Yamaguchi was much calmer, but there was some pink in his freckled face. He looked back down to see your goofy smirk and couldn't help but smirk at your attempt at matchmaking.
Then, Ogano splashed a little too close to you guys, and Tsukki glared in the general direction. You made a comment on how blind he was without his glasses, which made him roll his eyes at you. You playfully splashed him, before running to hide behind Yachi. She freaked out a little, but giggled when she realized what was happening. You decided to join in on their conversation, floating back over to Tsukishima as you responded to something Yamaguchi said.
Someone had come up with the absolutely amazing totally not dangerous at all idea for 'chicken battle royale', which would be everyone versus each other in the pool, with the last team standing being the winners. It was to be expected from a bunch of high school boys.
"Tch, how dumb" you heard Tsukishima mumble behind you. You could practically hear the eye roll. "Well you're gonna be my teammate so get ready for the dumb-ness" you told him. You smirked back at him and he gave you an irked expression. Your expression was basically 'sorry, not sorry' before you told him to get down so you could get on his shoulders. He pursed his lips and looked at you to see if you were actually serious before sighing and bending down slightly. You took the opportunity and jumped up onto his shoulders. He held your legs tightly, palms squeezing your thighs to balance you. Luckily, his hair was short enough and wouldn't end up obscuring his vision, and his absent glasses left no weakness for your chicken pair.
You managed to take down Noya (Tanaka wasn't the most reliable base, and you had caught him when he was staring at Kiyoko). They had been standing relatively close to you, so you made quick work of them. You directed him towards the middle of the shallow end, sticking way out of the water. You were about to get Yaku (who was on Lev's shoulders), when Lev randomly toppled over, eliminating both of them. Yaku resurfaced and immediately started reprimanding him. Unfortunately, you were backstabbed and pushed over by Kuroo, as Bokuto laughed.
Bokuto and Kuroo had won the entire thing (which wasn't surprising at all). You were still next to Tsukishima, though you started to shiver from the difference in temperature (since your top half had gotten wet when you lost).
"I'm cold" you told him. You totally didn't take your time heading over to the ladder. The two of you got out of the pool and you wrapped your towel around yourself before following Tsukishima to his towel. He quickly wiped his hair down before putting the towel on his shoulders. He then put his glasses back on and blinked a little, letting his eyes readjust. Once they did, he looked down at you just so he could take in your visage again, now that it was no longer a blur.
You didn't stay long, as you both made your way out of the loud pool room and went up to your respective rooms to change. The two of you had promised to meet back up when you were ready.
Sifting through your backpack, you found a comfortable pair of shorts and a tank top (since you had been less chilled than you were at the pool). You left your hair to air dry and headed back outside, where sure enough Tsukishima was already waiting for you. He was back in a plain white t-shirt and black sweatpants. You gave him a smile and closed the door to the managers room before you two headed down to the road.
The two of you walked for who knows how long, off into the fields behind the school. The Saitama Prefecture had beautiful, spanning fields with plenty of diverse flora. You hadn't really gotten the chance to fully explore the grounds surrounding Shinzen, so you were eager to do so now (especially with Tsukishima).
He was walking silently alongside you, staring off into the distance. You had no idea what he was thinking about, but he seemed at peace. His beautiful golden-brown eyes analyzed your surroundings, watching as the sun sank further down. When you noticed this, you realized the others were probably eating about now or at least getting close. "Should we get back for dinner?" you interrupted the calming silence. You looked over to him eagerly, since you would oblige to whatever answer he came up with. He shook his head and encouraged you to keep walking, though not before he looked down at you. His usually harsh gaze was much softer, something you'd noticed he did for you often.
When you reached the top of a hill, you had a good vantage point of both the school and the skyline. It felt like a nice place to sit down and appreciate everything. The weather was nice and the sun was setting lower in the sky, creating a beautiful pinkish-orange. Plus, your company made it even more refreshing. The two of you didn't even need quiet conversation, you could enjoy the silence and occasional sounds of the surrounding town.
You shut your eyes and laid back, breathing in the fresh air and clearing your mind. Schoolwork, manager duties, chores, and anything else didn't need to matter to you in that moment. When you opened your eyes again, you caught Kei staring at you. To your surprise, he didn't look away. You smiled and faced him, feeling your heart beat faster with the presence of his intense stare.
Feeling bold, you did something that was probably arguably extremely strange with a guy you weren't dating (and didn't have concrete evidence that he liked you). You opened your arms, clearly gesturing for a hug. Looking back, it was super embarrassing. To your shock, he stood up and then basically collapsed on you (it was with a little more care than a total collapse, but you were being dramatic). His head made its way to your chest, and you were sure he could hear your heart beating so fast it might explode.
Your hands made their way up to his hair and ran through the short locks. Without even realizing it, you were essentially giving him a head massage. You were about to apologize when he readjusted so that you could continue. The grin on your face only expanded, and you felt like you finally understood what true happiness was.
"Your heart is beating quickly" he lowly hummed, "calm down". Your entire body vibrated, and you felt chills. His voice was unsettlingly deep from not talking.
"I'm sorry" you said, for what reason you didn't know. What were you even apologizing for?
He only laughed at your pointless apology, bringing a hand up to grab one of yours and to intertwine your fingers. Scratch that, now your heart was definitely beating much faster than before and would probably annoy him, but you didn't care. It was so nice to just be in the moment that you didn't mind if he commented on it, he clearly wasn't going to get up. You tightened your grip around him and closed your eyes, smiling sweetly and filled with pure bliss.
The sun had long since set when the two of you finally stood back up. You gave him a smile and he smiled back at you, it was beautiful and bright and filled you with joy. He was warm, contrasting with the coolness of the night air around you. His arms around your waist and his chin on your head both produced featherlight sensations that turned your skin to fire. If you would die right now, you would die happy.
You couldn't help but notice how high in the sky the moon was when the two of you finally went back. Gorgeous, glowing, and full.

SAKUSA KIYOOMI BEING A SINGLE DAD OF A BABY GIRL
PLZPLZPLZ
MY BABY SAKUSA WITH A BABY. he is such a girl dad. i thought of this more as headcanons because i couldn't think of a single specific direction i wanted to go with it, so there's just kind of everything. hope you like!
headcanons of single dad sakusa kiyoomi ft. reader
- we all know that sakusa isn't the biggest fan of germs and bacteria
-and babies are basically breeding grounds for the stuff
-so i feel like at first he would be hesitant to really get involved and have a kid at first
-plus it might be hard for him to find someone he'd like to have a baby with
-imo he seems like the kind who would adopt rather than be left with a kid via hookup or past relationship etc. for that reason
-it just makes sense to me that he would have a kid when he finally wants one and knows he will be able to take care of a child himself
-maybe some of his friends and teammates talk about their kids
-like atsumu brags to him about his girls and it starts to make sakusa really think about a kid
-especially having a baby girl
-he is soooooo girl dad
-does that make sense? like you can tell just from the everything about him
-so he basically started researching the adoption process and scheduled an appointment with a nearby agency to learn more
-plus he obviously has the money for adoption so it's no problem for him
-they matched him with a little baby girl that was left in a baby box and is a few months old
-he fell in love with her as soon as he saw her in person
-even though they aren't genetically related she coincidentally has dark curly hair (though smaller tufts due to how young she is)
-he would definitely have a room already completely ready for her when he gets home
-probably painted it a light purple and would theme it around flowers, even though he's not a big fan of them in real life
-he definitely disinfects everything (though it probably didn't even need to be cleaned in the first place), and babyproofs his house with socket covers and bumpers and things like that -has done a lot of research on parenting strategies -he would read to her as opposed to letting her watch tv or an ipad
-or if he was to have her watch tv it would be those educational baby genius things
-bathtime is his favorite time (and hers too), he has one of the small baby bathtubs and
-he likes doing her hair and is actually very good at it
-big ponytail, pigtails and all that stuff
-when she gets older and does dance classes he goes to every concert and even some practices so he can dance with her
-he doesn't get embarrassed if its for his daughter
-but anyway back to baby
-he also has a very good support system
-he gets busy with practices and games, so he realized he would need someone to take care of her while they happen
-you offer to watch his daughter so that he doesn't need to go through the hassle of finding a babysitter
-not like you mind anyway, she's a total sweetheart
-you also take her on his days 'off' since they are very rare for sakusa, not that he doesn't love spending time with his daughter
-but this poor soul needs a break!
-if you're busy, he usually has one of his old msby teammates watch her
-i'm thinking it's usually hinata, since atsumu is already busy with his own kids and bokuto always has something
-you also bring a new toy for her every time (to her dad's somewhat annoyance)
-sakusa tells you you're going to spoil her but she's so cute you can't resist
-you guys will have 'family' dinners together to show how grateful he is to you
-even though you always joke you do it for her and not him
-you're basically her other parent anyway
-the two of you watch his games
-he gets her a mini version of his jersey
-he's not big on social media but he will post the occasional picture of her, like after his team wins a tournament and she chews his medal
-which also brings me to this \/
-he doesn't care about her germs
-like 10 years ago he probably would have died if a baby slobbered on him
-but when it's her it's okay
-'dada' 'papa' or any version of dad is definitely her first word and he literally cries the first time she says it
-moral of the story: sakusa kiyoomi loves his daughter more than anything
-he is best girl dad

chapter 8: back gym
After dinner later in the day, you helped the other managers with the dishes before taking your leave and heading back out to where the guys were. You saw Tsukishima sitting by himself and decided to go sit with him.
"Where are all your friends?" you joked as you took a seat across from him. He merely glanced at you and rolled his eyes.
"I don't see yours here either" he retorted.
"Where's Yamaguchi?"
"I don't know. Don't really care either," he said, avoiding eye contact. He looked back at you and smirked, clearly just trying to get a reaction out of you.
"Be nice!" you scoffed and swatted his arm.
The two of you decided to have a look around the school (it was more your idea than Tsukishima's, but he wasn't objecting). The two of you were walking past one of the gyms when a voice suddenly shouted out in your general direction.
"Hey, you Karasuno" a voice came, "would you jump some blocks for us?"
Kuroo eyed you up and down before commenting:
"Your little manager can watch." Your heart slightly dropped hearing that. His naturally suggestive tone made your face heat up and caused you to look up to see Tsukishima's answer.
"Whatever," he muttered and walked in, as you followed close behind. You decided to sit up against the wall so you could watch him. He made sure that you were fine before he handed his water bottle to you and headed over to the net. You acted merely as a spectator, for once not being obligated to do anything manager related outside of being in charge of his water. It was always mesmerizing to watch the players up close. Bokuto had very powerful swings, and Akaashi was just a beautiful specimen in every aspect of his game. You of course paid attention to Tsukishima mostly, for both personal and manager reasons. It was important for you to see how your team played and you also just liked to watch his tall form.
"You know four-eyes, you're great at reading attacks, but your blocks are pretty weak" Bokuto said. Tsukishima looked pissed. "Like, your arms are so frail I feel like I'm gonna break them". Kuroo only added on to the criticism with a similar sentiment, causing Tsukishima's blood to boil.
"It's just a sport anyway, why should I care?" he retorted. The others tried to further explain that they were trying to help him improve, but he was hearing none of it.
He grabbed you and walked out. Evidently, he was very upset and you weren't really sure to what extent. The two of you walked in silence for a little while, before you stopped. He kept walking before noticing you were no longer next to him, and he turned around. The questioning, annoyed look on his face made your heart drop, but you wanted to know more.
"Why do you never push yourself to get better, or practice more Tsukki? You make such a big deal out of volleyball not being important to you even though you're so gifted," you question him.
He didn't respond to you at first. You wondered if he'd even heard you at all, but he walked over to you and grabbed your hands in his. You looked up at him to see his head down, face forlorn and clear devastation in his eyes. He was trying to put into words the emotional turmoil he had been in for years. Unbeknownst to you, it was something he had never told anyone, not even Yamaguchi knew all of it. You squeezed his hands in support, which seemed to bring him back to you. You sadly smiled at him and encouraged him that he could tell you anything.
"Akiteru... my brother." he paused, "At one time, I looked up to him. He was the ace of his team when he was in middle school, and I thought it was so cool. I was proud to be 'the ace's brother'. He's the one who got me in to volleyball." he told you. You nodded to show that you were listening and urged him to continue.
"When he got to Karasuno, he started telling me not to come to his games anymore, because it would make him too nervous to know he had family there watching. I should have known better then, but I was just a dumb kid. I actually believed him for a while, then I decided to show up to a game." he hesitated, seemingly reliving the memory. "He wasn't starting. He wasn't even on the team. He had lied to me and made a fool out of me. Even now it's the reason I can't ever trust anyone. And I definitely can't let myself see volleyball as more than a stupid club," he spoke bitterly, "because when you care so much, and try so hard, you suffer later" he shut his eyes. Your heart broke for him. It was obvious he had been carrying this with him for a long time. He seemed like he wanted to cry, but he was holding it in and there was no physical sign of tears. You wanted to do as much as you could to make him feel better.
"Oh Kei," you removed one of your hands from his and pressed it to his cheek. He leaned his face against it appreciatively. You reached up and kissed his other cheek and softly spoke to him in the hope that you could make him feel better. You weren't likely to have this opportunity of him opening up like this again anytime soon.
"I know you can do it. You won't end up like your brother just because you work hard. You need to find the thing that makes you want to keep playing and get better" you told him. The warm summer breeze blew his hair a little bit. The look he was giving you was filled with affection, admiration, and intrigue. The two of you stared into each others eyes for what felt like minutes. A chill runs down your spine from both the feeling of his stare and a small gust of wind, breaking the trance and causing Tsukishima to step forward. It would have been a nice time for a kiss, you couldn't help but think. But you also didn't want him to be dealing with negative emotions when and if it ever happened, so it was probably a good thing it didn't. "Let me walk you back to your room" he offered, grabbing your hand.
"How sweet" you responded. Your cheeky smile made him scoff.
"Shut it before I regret it" he playfully threatened. He wouldn't regret it either way, though. After walking for another minute, you reached the outside of the managers room. You reached up and wrapped your arms around him, which he quickly returned. You were already addicted to his embraces despite this only being the second one.
"Goodnight (y/n)" he said, letting go of you and giving you the smallest of smiles. You could barely even consider it a smile, but for him there was no doubt it was true. The use of your first name combined with a genuine smile from him made your heart flutter, and you wished you could spend even longer with him. You hadn't expected any of this from him, but you liked it a lot and wanted this side of him more often.
"Night, Kei" you returned his smile.
You opened the door and waved goodbye, watching him walk off. The big grin you had had wouldn't come off of your face. You shut the door and turned around, only to nearly jump out of your skin due to all of the other managers standing around you.
"Sooo, (L/n)'s got a boyfriend hm?" Kaori slyly said.
"We aren't dating guys" you hurriedly explained. You already knew the direction this was heading in and attempted to shut it down before it went off the rails.
"That's so cute! Look, she's all flustered" Miyanoshita squealed excitedly.
All of you sat down on your respective futons and they began to question you about the 'tall, blond, jerkish Karasuno first year'. You decided to humor them, and figured it would be nice to talk to the girls about the guy you liked.
"I don't know, I get that he's a little rough and rude around the edges, but he's really not like that when you get to know him" you told them. Some of the girls responded positively, while others still wondered exactly what you saw in him.
That didn't surprise you, to be fair. To a lot of people, Tsukishima was unlikeable and unreachable. He was cold, snarky, straight up cruel at times, and overall it didn't seem like he had any interest in making new friendships. To you, though, you appreciated how logical he was, he never sugarcoated anything. You never had to question if he was lying to you because he would say exactly what he thought, regardless of whether it was hard to swallow. You felt special that you were one of the only people that could see the softer, sweeter side of him. It had been amazing to break down his walls and become closer with him, and you could honestly say you trusted him more than nearly every other guy in school. You gave the abridged version of your thoughts (you didn't want to tell them everything), and the girls all had pretty positive reactions. There were 'awws' and managers commenting on how cute it was that you two were seemingly opposites on the outside, but managed to contrast each other in a good way. Each of the girls were pretty talkative about the whole thing, save for one. It didn't go unnoticed by the other girls, however.
"Say, Yachi, you've been awfully quiet ever since we started talking about Tsukishima" Mako notices. She raised her eyebrow in question. "No I haven't!" she hissed. It was kind of uncharacteristic of her to get so defensive over something seemingly so trivial. Unless...
"Yachi, do you also like him?" Yukie questioned.
Honestly, that wasn't something you had considered before. You felt a strange feeling in your stomach hearing that. Jealousy? You had the urge to claim he was yours right then and there, pretend that you had been lying and that the two of you actually were dating. It made you start to overthink, had Tsukki ever shown a preference for her? Were you misreading his actions towards you as truly affectionate? You didn't want to dislike Yachi, but you were nervous at the possible competition you would face if she also liked him.
"No! N-no I don't, I promise!" she quickly stuttered out, making terrified eye contact with you for a split second before turning away. It was likely she had noticed your harsh, silent stare. She then got a little quiet, "there's actually someone else I like".
You breathed a sigh of relief as the other girls all started to interrogate her.
"Who? Please tell us!"
"Is he from your school?! Or Nekoma maybe?"
"It's- it's Yamaguchi" she trailed off, and couldn't really be heard. The other girls questioned her again.
"Yamaguchi!" she said louder this time. Now you were more interested in the conversation. "Awww, that's so cute!"
You pictured the two and had to admit, it actually might be kind of cute to see them together. If they actually did get together, then you really would have to get closer with her. Yamaguchi was Tsukishima's best friend, after all.
"That's great Yachi" you spoke. Her head turned to you with a shocked look. You gave her a kind smile before the moment was interrupted by one of the Fukurodani managers.
"You first years are so adorable! Young love is a beautiful thing" Kaori swooned dramatically. She was kidding, of course, but you still retaliated.
"You're young too!" You pointed out. Kiyoko laughed at your comment and you understood why the guys always tried their hardest to impress her.
After all the excitement, the rest of the night went well. Your phone had buzzed and you saw a short 'thanks' message from Kei, which made your heart happy. You played games and talked until all of you were exhausted and you finally curled up on your futons. You drifted off to sleep to dreamlike thoughts of dancing, with a tall blond holding you in his arms.

chapter 7: training camp
Even two weeks later, none of the guys would shut up about how excited they were for the Tokyo training camp (other than Tsukishima obviously). Ukai dismissed everyone from practice and told everyone when the bus would leave the next day.
When you got home from practice, you started packing for the upcoming week. You had your Section.80 cd in the player and were having a good time just going through your closet. You weren't exactly sure what you wanted to wear, so you packed some of your Karasuno stuff, shorts, sweats, and other (kind of clothes you want to wear). You debated on whether or not to pack a swimsuit, would there even be a pool or anything? Throwing one in just in case, you started looking through your jewelry. You had begun painting your nails when your phone suddenly buzzed.
You unlocked it to see a text from Tsukishima checking on you to see if you were packing yet, or if your short attention span had somehow forgotten. You laughed at the text before quickly responding that you were, in fact, packing. You were almost done! He sent a dry message in response so you shut your phone off and finished packing.
The two of you had done really well on your finals, getting near perfect scores. He had been texting you more recently but a lot of times it was school or club-related. You looked through your texts with him again before shutting your lamp light off and falling asleep
----
Your alarm woke you up far too early and you started getting dressed and ready to go to the training camp. You pulled on the team sweatpants, along with a white tank top and your unzipped Karasuno jacket.
You made sure you had your earbuds and phone charger before grabbing your backpack and blanket. You headed to your kitchen and grabbed yourself an apple, stuffing other snacks into your backpack for your team. Texting your parents, you locked the door and headed off to the school.
When you got there, Kiyoko as well as the other third years and Ennoshita were already there. Sugawara greeted you with a bright smile as the others wished good morning to you. You half-heartedly waved back while keeping your eyes closed, trying to somehow sleep while standing up.
Soon, the other players turned up (minus Kageyama and Hinata) and everyone boarded the bus. Some of the guys offered up the seats next to them, however you decided to sit by yourself so that you could lay down across the seats. Kiyoko and the blonde girl, Yachi, sat in the row across from you. She hadn't become any less meek in the time you had known her, and you found it a little bit annoying at times, but she was nice so you really didn't have a problem with her.
The bus was a little bit quieter than it had been for the practice match, but that was reasonable thanks to the lack of noisy first years. The other first years were sitting towards the back, Tsukishima with his headphones on and Yamaguchi playing some sort of game on his phone. You made eye contact with Tsukishima and you smiled at him. You could have sworn he actually look totally annoyed when you did. You thought about the other two and were struck with wondering how they were going to manage to make it to the camp.
"Hey, how are those two getting here anyway?" you asked aloud, figuring everyone would know 'those two' you were referring to. You grabbed a cereal bar and threw it at Noya, who had been making grabbing hands at your backpack.
"My sister is driving them" Tanaka replied, to which Suga snickered. Weird...
You accepted the answer before sitting back down in your row and leaning your back against the cool window. The bus ride would last a little while, so you put your earbuds in and started listening to (your favorite music from the late 2000's//Britney Spears). You shut your eyes and tuned out the outside dull chatter of the few people on the bus actually talking. You managed to fall asleep and were out for the rest of the ride, not noticing the gaze of one of the players.
----
You were tapped awake by Kiyoko. Sitting up, you realized you were the only other person still on the bus. You quickly gathered your things and hurried off.
You followed Kiyoko and Yachi inside to and up a few sets of stairs to the room the managers would be staying in. Sliding the door open, you were faced with a large room with eight futons. You were told there would be seven managers there (counting yourself), though only two of the futons were claimed with bags on them. You decided to take one near the window and laid your blanket down on it. Kiyoko took the one next to you, while Yachi took one a little further away from you. Maybe you should try becoming closer with her over this week, you thought.
The three of you made your way back down the stairs and waited for the boys to come back down from their room.
You stood in the hallway as another team showed up, wearing light green. Their manager walked over to you and introduced herself as Otaki Mako. Kiyoko went to show her the room, leaving you alone with Yachi. You tried thinking of some common ground with her. You were both in college prep classes, but she was in 1-5 and you were 1-4. You both were new to being managers, but you already knew some things about volleyball and she didn't. You questioned if you should ask her about her music taste, and then wondered if you could guess what she liked beforehand. J-pop? It was hard to tell.
The guys had come back downstairs, coincidentally at the same time as Nekoma. You saw Yamamoto again, who caught sight of you and tried coming over to you. You assumed it was because Kiyoko was nowhere in sight, however you weren't looking forward to the awkward conversation that awaited you when he finally got to you. However, you didn't have to face that as a presence behind you quickly stopped him. Then, he noticed Tanaka and instead headed over to him.
Turning around you were faced with Tsukishima looking directly at Yamamoto, almost as though he was daring him to try and be dumb enough to make a move. Apparently, he wasn't. You smiled at him in thanks.
The rest of the team started heading towards a cafeteria area for midday lunch. He wasn't making a move so you grabbed his wrist and started walking after them. He didn't protest or try to rip his hand away from yours so you figured it was okay.
Once you were there, you picked (food of choice). You went and sat down at the table with the other Karasuno first years, Yamaguchi, Yachi, Kageyama, and Hinata already there. You sat next to Yachi while Tsukishima (who had followed you) sat next to you on your right.
Kageyama and Hinata were having a stupid argument about God knows what, while Yamaguchi struck up a conversation about the other teams that were already there. You sat and mostly listened to him ramble about Nekoma and how you guys were going to beat them this time around.
"You agree, right Yachi?" he suddenly asked. Her face quickly turned a dark pink.
"O-oh I'm not really sure, I don't know if I have the knowledge to say, but I hope you do!" (I dislike writing excessive stuttering and stuff sorry) she nervously responded. There's the part of her you're conflicted about, both slightly annoying but incredibly sweet. You smile at her.
"Way to be a supportive manager, Yachi" you said. She looked at you with stars in her eyes. You tried not to laugh at the look on her face and successfully managed to keep it hidden. She only smiled and looked away. Who knew that four words could make her day?
With the other guys now all discussing new strategies for their upcoming matches, you turned to the blond boy next to you, who had seemingly already been looking at you without you noticing. He quickly averted his eyes but you kneed him playfully.
"You've been unusually quiet, is everything alright?" you softly questioned. You didn't want the others to hear and make him embarrassed, for then you surely all would see the snarky, salty, snippy Tsukki that wasn't always the most fun to deal with (though you were okay with it since that was just one of the things that made him, him).
He didn't make eye contact with you for several seconds, though when he finally did he only stared down at you. It was kind of creepy, honestly. Then, without notice, he excused the two of you from the table with the lie of needing to go search for a missing water bottle. The two of you left the cafeteria area and headed down a few halls until you were in a secluded area away from any possible spectators.
"Seriously, what's wrong? Clearly somethings up. I've never heard you, or I guess not heard you for so long" you interrogated. Rather than directly answering your question, he hit you with his own.
"Why didn't you want to sit with me on the bus?" he quietly questioned. You looked up at him in awe. Was that it? You didn't think something that was seemingly so insignificant would upset the usually unbothered boy.
"I didn't know you would want to sit with me" you spoke. Your voice wavered a little bit, your emotions flooding a little wild.
He gave you a look you couldn't read very well, before unexpectedly pulling you into his arms. You were a little stunned by his uncharacteristic action, but wrapped your arms around him in return. The two of you held it longer than what was probably acceptable for a 'friendly' hug, but you honestly didn't feel like you two were just friends either. Of course, there was no label agreed upon by the two of you yet, but it made your heart flutter just thinking about him. Everything about this boy made you crazy, more so than any girl would feel about a guy who was just a friend.
"I'm sorry," you told him. You wanted to resolve any of the pain or questioning he was feeling in his heart. "I would have loved to sit with you".
He didn't say anything in return, opting to just hold you a little tighter before letting go. You couldn't help the smile that made its way onto your face. You looked up at him with big eyes to which he made a weird face and covered his mouth.
"Quit looking so pathetic, it's kind of cute" he said before heading back in the direction of the cafeteria.
You were still soaking up the moment with him when you understood what he had actually just said.
"Hey!"
