RULES AND GUIDELINES
What are the guidelines for the bingo?
I will be borrowing some of this from the MYSU Valentine’s Day Bingo 2022 Guidelines, since they were fantastic.
For Everyone:
1. Remember to @sambuckylibrary in the post as well as #tfatwsanniversary2024.
2. Please also tag the prompt you’re filling (for instance, if the square is “Redwing”, use “#redwing” as one of your tags when posting about it on Tumblr).
3. If you’re uploading to AO3, please:
a ) Say somewhere which prompt you’re filling.
b ) Add it to TFATWS Anniversary Event 2024 (TFATWS_Anniversary_Event_2024).
For Artists:
1. Create at least one piece of new art that can’t have been posted anywhere else before this.
2. All visual art forms are welcome:
a ) Gifsets, at least 3 gifs.
b ) Aesthetic boards or moodboards, at least 4 images each.
c ) Drawing/painting, that is not a sketch.
d) Fan video.
e) Graphics edit.
For Authors:
1. At least 500 words.
2. Posted on Tumblr or AO3.
3. Can be part of a series, but should work as a standalone.
For Podficcers:
1. The podfic should at least be 5 minutes long.

3. The podfic can be of a fic made for the event, a fic not made for the event while still adhering to the prompt, or a notfic.
For Fic Rec Lists:
1. You must have at least five fics or podfics on the rec list.
2. Make sure to give brief descriptions of the fics or podfics as well as their rating and wordcount.
For Commenters:
1. Any amount of comment counts, from a heart emoji (“❤️”) to an essay.
2. We would rather this be about what makes you happy and joyful about reading than any scathing critiques.
Things to be mindful of when creating:
For Sam
Avoid framing Sam only as a caretaker or emotional support for Bucky. Be mindful of Sam acting angry or aggressive in an out-of-character way and falling into the angry/sassy Black man trope (check out the MCU source material to help with character traits).
Avoid decentering Sam as a main character and refrain from focusing entirely on Bucky.
In art: avoid whitewashing Sam’s skin and research drawing Black characters.
General disclaimer: Race affects every aspect of his life, including interacting with police/government and the white structures of the world when it comes to performing his duties as Cap and simply being a Black man that lives in the U.S.
For Bucky
Avoid phrasing “flesh/normal/human hand” to refer to the contrast between his prosthetic arm and his right arm. The phrasing is ableist. You can simply refer to his prosthesis when relevant, otherwise use “right/left arm/hand”.
For more information, please check out this document suggested by @ninesdb on how to write Bucky as an amputee. @ninesdb is also open to questions if you have any queries not answered by the google doc.
Specific Tags:
Avoid tags in AO3 like “Sam Wilson is a Gift”, “Sam Wilson is a Saint”, and “Bucky Needs a Hug”.
Have fun and we look forward to your TFATWS Anniversary fics!

Neon Headcanons (but also ~Deadlock?)
Another (modified) version of one of @eviethelesbian 's prompts.  At this point I’m like Thanos collecting Infinity Stones but I just write Valorant headcanons from a list.  One down, god knows how many more to go.
Tumblr media
Neon
My god she has no filter when speaking Tagalog, like it's not just that she swears but the sheer volume of it
Diagnosed by Sage, confirmed by damn near everyone she knows, she has ADHD
Despite being somewhat short she is excellent a basketball and when she learned the protocol had a court, she was estatic
Phoenix warned Gekko against challenging her, to which he ignored, and was shocked when Neon dunked on him
Also insanely fast too, if she decides to steal from someone’s plate it’s so quick that most people won’t notice
Will use her radiance to speed up basic chores.  Also to charge phones, hairdryers, tablets, and most appliances
That last one is usually what happens when she decides to cook, and she LOVES cooking.  Most of the time she will offer to help cook even it isn’t her designated night to cook
Adobo is what most of the fandom knows her for, but it isn’t the only dish she can make.
Sinangag, tocino, and sisig are usually her go to whenever she is asked to cook, but her favorite dish to make is anything with Ube
The shock value of purple food to the protocol and getting everyone’s reaction was entertaining to her.  Plus the flavor reminds her of childhood.
Misses her parents at times and occasionally will be reminded of them from something on a mission.  Afterwards, she’ll head to her room and probably fixate on a photo of them.  It’s a routine at this point.
Does have some fear of her electricity causing a blackout, and only uses it at its maximum while training
Has flashbacks to when she couldn’t control it, and the times it got out of hand and caused a citywide blackout for about a week
The flashbacks include the time her power caused someone to go into cardiac arrest, a day that still haunts her
Reyna often tries to get her to move beyond guilt to draw out more power, which Neon is aware of but at the same time, it feels good to not be careful and let loose
Training is usually a mix of target practice and using radiance to outmaneuver training dummies.  At times, Reyna will drop in to teach her to be more decisive or give her advice
Sage is keeping an eye on this, but more out concern for Neon’s wellbeing.  When Neon is distressed, it's often Sage that talks with her about whatever troubles her
Fade is still making amends for what happened in Istanbul.  Contrary to most of the fandom, you can’t just psychologically scar someone and then become gfs
Don’t worry, they eventually found common ground after Fade apologized and the two began to realize they had some things in common
Eventually it was Neon that actually forgave her and the two began spending time together and trusting each other more on missions
They aren’t ‘inseparable’ but Fade stays close to Neon whenever she’s out of her room, and Neon visits her at times
She’s everyone’s big sister and although she is homesick, she believes she is helping the world.  Also the relationship between her and Fade is also a reason to stay…
Tumblr media
Deadlock
Iselin is in therapy, both physical and mental.  It was a bit difficult for her to talk to anyone, but Sage managed to crack her.  It wasn’t pretty, and to keep her stable she was put on medication
Anxiety and PTSD attacks were common in the days she was still adjusting to the protocol.  Gekko’s crew were forbidden from entering after she saw them and her heart rate spiked
Eventually she managed to feel more at ease, and the medication was issued in lower amounts to compensate.  That’s when prosthetic fittings began, courtesy of KJ
Surprisingly, she was able to make a lot of progress towards dealing with her trauma.  Therapy works, also a surprisingly good support structure
Sova is her support person, and the two are usually together whenever they can be because they work together so well
They are siblings, not by blood but by dynamic and they are competent but one is usually paying attention and the other isn’t
After Sova, her favorite person at the protocol is Skye.  The hiking the two often do is not only relaxing but strenuous so it's usually only them
It was a bit hard for her to trust the animals Skye made at first, but they were sort of exposure therapy for her
She and Skye love doing anything together, and Skye is one of the few people Iselin lets her guard down around
Not that she’ll admit this, but she has created a private file with KAY/O for a bit of a dark reason.  It is called ANI/-/ILLATION (0)
It details precise methods on how to kill every radiant and artifact using agent and what to fight them with.  It was a drafted by KAY/O in the future and is a failsafe to prevent a Radiant War
KAY/O doesn’t want to tell her, but she was not only a general during it but died to Skye killing her in the future
Getting back to lighter topics, Iselin’s personality is organized but she will offer to help people if they want.  Mainly with gun maintenance and drills
She has a soft spot for a lot of the younger agents and despite being ‘serious’ will join in on conversations and casual life
Do not however challenge Deadlock to bets and games, she will take it seriously and always give 100%
The radianite still in her body from the Bear glows in the dark and responds to radianite and strong emotion.  She hates it but everyone says it's cool
Omen and her were on bad terms initially (trauma did cause that) but the more they worked together the kinder the two were
Now Iselin has a sweater from Omen, and she wears it around the base when she can.  She loves the material and the fact it's her favorite color, green.  It reminds her of spring.
The prosthetic arm felt alien at first but now it's like a part of her.  She doesn’t feel any shame for it anymore and she’s turned into a sign of resilience.
As a joke, Breach asked if she could do that with it.  She jabbed him in the gut and he toppled over, she yelled “what do you think now, drittsekk?” at him and left
(For the record KJ did install a function for that, but never told her.  Oh well…)
She is serious, organized, but never stern.  She may still be recovering and finding her footing after tragedy but she is surrounded by people that are moving her forwards
Fun Little Glitch
So Neon and Deadlock were in the common room and Neon being Neon she got curious about the prosthetic arm
Iselin permitted her to look it over and touch it, and gave her a rundown of what it was.  Then Neon went to check the hand size in comparison to hers
Just as she was pressing their hands together, a small spark from Neon’s hand shocked Iselin’s hand, and it went full death grip
It would not let go, and the initial panic caused them to trip over each other trying to pull the hand apart
Sova walked in after hearing the commotion, and saw the two on the floor.  He tried to help by grabbing both wrists and pulling
It did nothing and his next suggestion was to disconnect the arm and then pull.  Iselin had to explain the prosthetic arm can’t be removed and was kind of pissed he suggested it
He shrugged and said they should just go to KJ’s lab and wait, which was a problem cause A: it was on the other side of the base, and B: she was out on a mission
So Tala and Iselin had to walk through the common area, then the mess hall (Jett, Phoenix, Reyna, Harbor + Astra, and Gekko), then past the conference room (Brim and KAYO), to the medical bay (Sage, Viper, and a hurt Yoru), and finally to KJ’s lab
It was beyond embarrassing for the two and led to plenty of confusion and remarks (mainly from Jett and Yoru)
Fade poked her head out of her room and invited Tala in, but then immediately regretted it when she realized she had been stuck to Iselin.  Not wanting to be rude, she made her peace with it
From time to time people would drop by and try and see the conjoined agents only for Fade to greet them at the door and shoo them off
It was a strange situation for everyone, Tala being with Fade and Iselin while in Fade’s room was different.  It didn’t help that there wasn’t much to do aside from scroll the internet and watch Fade add to her conspiracy board
Eventually when it got late and they realized that KJ was gonna get back late, they all sort of gathered around on the floor and just hung out
Fade was prompted by Tala to read out loud what she was reading while she layed on the cushions dotting the room.  Iselin just slumped against the wall
The morning KJ arrived, she was ushered to the room by a very excited Jett and Phoenix.  Brimstone was less than enthused about the fact 3 agents were together in a room overnight
The three had all collapsed together and were laying on the floor, and yes Jett took a photo before they all woke up
KJ walked over to Iselin, put a gadget up to the wrist and the grip stopped.  Now that the two were separated, Tala and Iselin thanked KJ enthusiastically.
Fade hated the fact everyone was looking in her room and quickly got everyone out the second she could
A few adjustments later, the arm set to work without any problems due to increased voltage
Some time later after a successful mission, Iselin went to help up Neon and extended her prosthetic arm
“Iselin you can let go now”
Iselin started to panic and then Neon began to panic, right before Iselin released her grip and smiled at her
“Ok ok, you got me Iselin… Hey, you want to try that on Fade?”

What I Thought About "What If...T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?" from Marvel Studios' What If...
Salutations, random people on the internet who already scrolled past this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons!
You know, a lot of people lost so much when Chadwick Boseman died. His family has lost a husband and a father, his fans lost an inspiration, and to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we lost both a hero and a king. His performance as T'Challa/Black Panther is by far the best the character has ever had, nailing the essence of the character while delivering so much more. So with the second episode of Marvel Studios' What If... one has to ask: Was Chadwick Boseman's final performance his best, or did the series failed to honor his legacy? Only spoilers can answer that question, so be wary as we analyze the second entry into Marvel's most ambitious series.
Now, let's review, shall we?
WHAT I LIKED
T’Challa himself: I enjoy that because his story has changed, so did T'Challa's personality. There's this sly cockiness that we've never seen from the character before, showing how much influence Yondu and his Ravagers had on him. And it's actually pretty fun seeing a character who was so calm and collected now act so...not that. With that said, just T'Challa is now Star-Lord, that doesn't mean he's a copy of Peter Quill.
The major differences lie in the impact that T'Challa left on the galaxy. Instead of stealing for himself, he chose to steal for planets in need as his own version of Robin Hood. And that, in turn, is a way more intriguing and compelling character to me than Peter Quill ever could be. There's just something about the nobleness of choosing to be a heroic outlaw instead of being strictly an outlaw. It proves that despite having his history altered drastically, there is no erasing that perfect and intelligent King that we all know and dearly miss. It sucks that we'll probably never see him again, but at least the last time we did it was to leave one epic impression for the fans.
Korath is T’Challa’s #1 Fan: Not what I would have expected, primarily since the character never acted so goofy, but I appreciate this change nonetheless. Because it's oddly wholesome seeing how much Korath admires T'Challa, to the point where he honestly believes that they're best friends. Also, it's funny. Like, really funny. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this version of Korath is the funniest character in this episode. He's just too good.
It’s All Funny: Hey, we're on the Guardians of the Galaxy side of the universe. I'd personally be offended if it didn't have a sense of humor.
Yondu: Yondu seems to be the only one who hasn't changed that much through T'Challa's presence. Sure, he went straight because of it, but personality-wise, he's still the same. He still gives off the energy as this king of the idiots when dealing with his Ravagers, and you how he's this thief with a heart of gold. It's just that only T'Challa brought it out more than Peter did. Other than that, I personally don't mind that not much has changed. Yondu was already a fun character, to begin with, so I'm more than alright seeing him unaltered if it means we get to witness more of him.
The Galaxy is Better Because of T’Challa’s Influence: No, really, it is. Drax still has his family, Thanos renounced his genocidal ways, and Nebula not only remained in one piece but even has hair...somehow. It's impressive to see just how better everything turned out, and, in a way, it's also kind of funny when you think about it. Like, I wouldn't go so far as to say that the universe was in shambles because of Peter's existence...but it wasn't really better either, and I can't help my chuckles when witnessing how better off things were because he stayed on Earth.
Thanos: Not much to say here. It's fun seeing how chilled out Thanos is when he's not hellbent on wiping out half the universe. And I definitely chuckled a couple times when people called him out on his genocidal bulls**t. It's pretty enjoyable and made me glad we got to see his very surprising return.
Nebula: But this shocked me more. Korath becoming a T'Challa stan? Sure. Thanos acting as a respectful ally? Whatever. But Nebula becoming T'Challa's sexy thieve-in-arms girlfriend?! I don't think anybody in their right mind would have predicted that!
But putting aside the shock, this version of Nebula was surprisingly entertaining. It's nice seeing what she would've acted like without the tragedy as she acts like she's free as a bird but still a little devious. Although, despite having a much better life, that doesn't mean there isn't animosity between her and Thanos. He may not have torn Nebula apart as much as he did in the universe we know, but take notice of how she still has cybernetics in her left eye. That shows that T'Challa didn't get to fix everything, and I appreciate that the writers hadn't glossed over how much of a bad father the Mad Titan is, just because he's all sunshine and rainbows now. It allows a chance for Thanos to prove he really did change and gives Nebula an arc to forgive him. And while the pacing for that could have been better, it's still somewhat believable for me to get behind it. Thus surprising me even more with how not only did Nebula make a phenomenal appearance, but one that left quite the impact on the story.
The Collector: It's not just better heroes that T'Challa created. The Collector, for example, somehow became a genuine threat in this timeline instead of that pathetic dweeb in Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Infinity War. This again amazes me with how T'Challa miraculously created a buff-supervillain in his universe, where Peter did jack all. Maybe the galaxy really would have been better off without him...
Howard the Duck: This is the best way to utilize Howard the Duck if you ask me. He's a character that doesn't really scream "leading character" to me (unless given the correct type of writers), so it's better to let him stick to brief cameos and occasional supporting roles. It allows a goofy type of character to shine without causing audiences to roll their eyes over the idea of a talking duck saving the day.
Wakanda Theme Playing when T’Challa Found the Ship: It's just a cool callback. That's all.
Yondu Lying About Wakanda’s Destruction: A pretty solid reveal that shows how even though Yondu loves the kids he steals, he doesn't have the best intentions. What more can I add?
The Collector’s Wall of Weapons: The callbacks are nice, but I like implications from seeing Captain America's shield and Thor's hammer on that wall. It could mean that while the universe is a better place from T'Challa's influence, not everybody made it out alright.
Yondu’s Speech to T’Challa: I'm sure these beautiful and sentimental words have some implications toward Chadwick Boseman as an actor, but I was too busy being emotional to notice them. Well done.
What Happened to Peter Quill: Ok...I think we can just stop beating Peter down for dooming half the universe. Because how much lower can you get when finding out that this other guy practically saved everything with very little effort, only for you to end up as a worker at Dairy Queen? I'd honestly feel bad if I kept doing it at this point. The poor bastard…
(Sidenote: Love the implications that the world is still in danger because Ego still gets to Peter. It shows that despite the more interesting changes, not everything turns out all hunky-dory.)
The Tribute to Chadwick Boseman: A well-appreciated sentiment to cap off a perfect episode...or what would've been a perfect episode. 'Cause ya boy's got some nitpicks!
WHAT I DISLIKED
T’Challa Being Called Star-Lord: A small thing, but the reason why Peter called himself Star-Lord was because it was a nickname his mom called him. What's even the reasoning here? Because it makes no sense when you sit down and think.
The Black Order are still Boring: Out of all the improvements we've seen, it is still disappointing that these four remain as nothing more than cannon fodder for our heroes to go through before fighting the main boss. And pathetic. Immensely pathetic. I mean, for f**ks sake, THE MAW GOT KILLED BY THE PINK GIRL FROM GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! Psychic powers and he still goes out like a b**ch!
Thanos Got Nerfed: The guy nearly killed the Avengers, with and without Infinity Stones, yet he can barely hold his own against these people who worked for him. C'MON NOW!
IN CONCLUSION
But those were just nitpicks. Despite them, I'd still consider this episode a solid A with 9.5/10. It was fun getting to see the changes T'Challa made to the galaxy, added with some pretty entertaining moments with other iconic characters. You couldn't have asked for a better final performance from Chadwick Boseman, and here's hoping that wherever he is, he knows that he shined brighter than any star in the galaxy.

Hello Sine, I read your post few days back on Howard. I didn’t know the MCU had an influence on the comics. I’m really surprised. My question is; were comic Tony or Steve subjected to some changes? Were they influenced by the MCU like Howard or is it mostly for unknown/side characters with no solid foundation? Thank you
Oh, yeah, comics have changed a lot in response to the MCU.
They have a habit of coming out with new events to run at the same time as MCU canon that are theoretically supposed to draw in new readers, I assume, but in practice really have nothing to do with whatever MCU thing is coming out and are generally very confusing. When CACW came out they ran Civil War II, which was a fight between Tony and Carol (who did not, at the time, exist in the MCU) about an Inhuman who I am pretty sure does not exist in the MCU. When Infinity War came out they ran Infinity Wars, which also featured a bunch of people who did not exist in the MCU and was about running a weird bodysharing AU inside the Soul Stone.
They also like to reprint older issues to coincide with MCU events, which is nice of them, but, like, God help you if you watch Age of Ultron and then decide to read Age of Ultron. There are collections of Sam’s complete Cap tenure coming out now, which is very nice, but if you are here from the MCU you may be confused about the part where Sam becomes Cap because Steve is unexpectedly 95 years old (okay, so maybe that part is easy to get now that Endgame has happened) and then also Steve is young again but secretly Hydra and simultaneously Captain America. (They are not reprinting the Steve run that was going on at the same time, as far as I can tell.) And then they push other series into prominence because people like the MCU versions -- and, I mean, I am enjoying the hell out of the current Guardians run, but its major characters include Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, and Rich Rider, so good luck, MCU fans.
Fandom is pretty sure that they stopped FF for a few years because they didn’t have the movie rights and also that they went around retconning a bunch of characters to not be mutants back when they also didn’t have the movie rights to the X-Men; the two most famous are Wanda and Pietro, but, I mean, there was also a Squirrel Girl issue devoted to explaining that she definitely was not a mutant now. They probably also pushed a lot of Inhuman characters and tried to position Inhumans as sort of the next mutants, narratively, because they had movie rights to those.
The main Avengers team is now pretty much mostly made up of characters they want to push in the MCU as well as characters people will know from the MCU. You can tell they also tried to do this at the beginning of Hickman’s Avengers run because he started with the MCU team from the Avengers movie before shoving like twenty additional people onto the team, and then they came out with Avengers Assemble which was very continuity-light and featured a lot of MCU dynamics (like, Bruce being anyone the Avengers regularly hang out with, which was definitely not the case before the MCU). They added Coulson to the comics, too. And Nadia is definitely not the same as Hope, but, uh, her name means “hope” in Russian which is, as we say now, very sus.
Also the Infinity Stones are now Gems and their colors, I think, match the MCU.
In terms of specific changes to Tony and Steve’s comics:
The RT node was obviously clearly introduced because of the arc reactor, and I would bet that Zeke Stane was created because suddenly people cared about Obadiah Stane a lot more. (Am sort of surprised they didn’t decide to resurrect him, actually.) The comments from Marvel editorial in the letters column during Bendis’ IM run were explicitly clear about the fact that they were trying to make 616 Tony sound more like RDJ in terms of quippiness and general personality. There is at least one armor that is a straight-up port of MCU armor.
Coates’ current Cap run has brought Peggy Carter back to life -- she died several years ago -- made her young, and also not made her a blonde anymore. You know, so she looks more like MCU Peggy. (The hair color thing is particularly weird in light of the fact that Steve originally noticed Sharon specifically because she looked so much like Peggy.) You get a lot more comics putting Steve’s origin in Brooklyn (although this is not 100% consistent and never was) and also I read an entire miniseries that seemed to be under the impression that in 616 it was the Red Skull’s fault Steve got iced. (It was Baron Zemo.)
There are probably more but that’s all I can think of right now.

An Awakening
Vision learns the truth of his life prior to Westview which leads to an honest conversation with Wanda.
Ao3 link
There is nothingness and then there is a calliope, it’s jaunty little ditty shocking his mind enough that Vision’s eyes snap open. Blades of grass tickle his cheek and an aura of flashing lights draws him up, palms pressed firmly onto the ground as he hoists himself up into a seated position. His body aches, a faint echo in his mind of being violently torn apart, but it is a feeling that fades the faster he thinks about it. Since it seems important, he tries to move his mind away, hoping that if he doesn’t explicitly focus on it that it will not be forgotten.
Vision nods, goes to stand up, but finds his legs not responding fully, knees buckling under the weight of a fleeting memory of immense pain. A hand loops under his right bicep, the woman’s other hand coming to rest on his back as she helps him up with an aggrieved, “Why can men never admit when they’re hurt?” The snark behind the comment feels forced, the same underlying terror on her face as all the other residents here.
That’s when he remembers, most of it at least. He was on his own reconnaissance patrol, inching ever more methodically toward the edge of town to see how far Wanda’s influence reached. The horror of his findings, their frozen, crying faces, almost knocks him back to the ground, but luckily the woman’s hands are still there to steady him. “Thank you.”
“Did you go in the funhouse?” It’s not really a question the way her voice falls, more of a statement with a rhetorical uptick at the end. “Heard it’s really disorienting with all the clowns.”
Vision doesn’t recall such an attraction anywhere in Westview but then he looks up, following the still present music in the air, and finds an entire carnival before him. Red and white striped tents tower out of the ground, stalls for food send plumes of greasy smoke into the air, and numerous game stalls are lined up where stuffed animals and blowup hammers hang joyfully from the walls. This is new. What is also new is that there are houses and roads beyond Ellis Avenue, which seems right, as if it was always like that, but there is a niggle of unease that tells him this isn’t true, if only he could access the information that makes him feel that way.
“Oh, um , thank you.” His costume is, at least by his understanding of how Billy and Tommy reacted, not sick by any means. Regardless, he finds his hand moving on its own accord to grip the cape, wanting to feel the object of her jealousy. It feels different, slicker and more aerodynamic than the one Wanda left in the closet. He yanks it a bit farther forward and notes that it is also a much more subdued gold with flecks of crimson in parts. A glance down also confirms that his green and yellow ensemble is gone, replaced by teals and reds, no athletic shorts covering the skin tight ensemble.
This is all wrong.
Vision knows the town never had a circus, nor the rows of houses beyond Ellis, he knows that he was not in this outfit and that everything feels just a bit off.
“Do you want some coffee or a ride back home?” The concern in her voice goes deeper than one would expect, even though she did find him injured on the ground, something more wavers in her words. Vision decides that he needs more answers than questions and, even though he hates taking away people’s autonomy, he reaches towards her temple. “Woah,” the woman swats his hands away, “I have pepper spray.”
“I will not harm you.” Oddly her face softens and she drops the threat, allowing him to send a pulse of golden energy into her head.
The change is instantaneous, the woman’s face becoming far more animated, “Vision?! Oh my God, you’re okay!” This is now the second awakened person to recognize him, to be excited at the prospect that he is there to help. “Oh what the hell!” Vision watches the woman’s hand run along her gaudy canary and ruby diner uniform, one that is common in little run down diners on the highway, a thought that he doesn’t quite know how to substantiate since he doesn’t seem to have a memory of such a stop and yet the knowledge is there. As she inspects her clothes, grunting in disbelief and irritation built into every movement, she confuses him further, “I’m an astrophysicist and this is what I get? So disrespectful.”
Neither Norm nor Agnes responded in such a...laid back way to be awakened, both in immeasurable pain that this woman seems to show no signs of. “Miss, are you okay?”
“Doctor, not Miss.”
“My apologies.”
She turns a bright, closed lip smile towards him, reaching out her hand as she says, “I’m Darcy.”
He takes the proffered hand and gives it a polite shake. Even though it is clearly unnecessary he adds, “And I’m Vision.” What he says next is a bit of a surprise to him, mainly because he doesn’t feel like he has a basis for the assumption that she will know the answer, but for some reason he has full faith she can help him, that she wants to help him. “Who am I? What,” he surveys the carnival around him, “what is happening here?”
“Straight to the big questions.” It is not derisively or caustically stated, in fact there is far more affection than one would expect from a stranger. Darcy glances around, nervous for the first time, “I’ll try to be quick, I’m sure your wife’ll be here soon.” This fear is not new, sadly, the same insinuation made by Norm about Wanda’s involvement. “Let’s see, you’re Vision, obviously,” a small, self conscious chuckle goes along with the statement. “You’re an Avenger,” luckily, she senses his desire for more, quickly adding, “group of super powered people, well, not all of them have super powers, some just have really amazing tech, but anyway you’re a team that fights bad guys and saves the universe.”
“Wanda and myself, we were-“
“Yep, joined at the same time and then fell in love, really cute.”
This confirms what Agnes said, which suggests that perhaps her other words were true as well. “Am I...dead?” All joy leeches from Darcy’s face, a deflated nod going along with the tightening of her lips. “How?”
Darcy looks around again and Vision can’t help but join her in the action, can’t help but feel a little bit nervous about who doesn’t want him to know this. “Shortened version - big purple angry grape named Thanos was collecting all the infinity stones, this includes the Mindstone,” Vision’s fingers rise up to brush the gem. “Wanda had to kill you to try and stop him.”
“She killed me?”
Quickly context is added, “Only because you,” she levels a finger at his chest to emphasize his role and take blame off his wife, “insisted she do it.”
None of what she says makes sense. “Why would I do that?”
The next statement is said in a way that typically is coupled with a playful fist against the shoulder that leads into a jovial shove. “Being all self-sacrificial’s kinda your thing. Which is super noble, don’t get me wrong, but a bit rough on the people around you, like asking them to kill you for the greater good.”
Which is a fair point and one he will need to cogitate on at a later time, “Why did Wanda, specifically, have to kill me?”
“Oh because she was the only one strong enough to destroy the Mindstone.”
A logical assessment that he can easily believe his former self to have made. “Was she successful?”
Darcy’s voice quiets somewhat, a slight tremble in her words, “She was. But then Thanos reversed time, brought you back, and murdered you right in front of her.”
Suddenly his worldview shifts, new meaning and understanding emerging as to some of Wanda’s actions and her strong reaction to his accusations the other night. Despite this dawning of understanding, there is still a major question he feels hasn’t been answered. “But then how are we here? How am I,” he falters on the next word, as early as this evening not thinking it was something that could be false, “alive?”
“That’s the million dollar question. No one knows.” A high pitched whizzing vibrates in the air, punctuated by calls of Vision! “I gotta go,” she begins to walk away, but turns back with an anger not yet present in her words, “Quick FYI, if you meet a guy named Hayward, don’t trust him, he’s a dick.”
“I um, will not, thank you.”
She starts to leave again and then stops, “Also, we don’t have proof it’s all Wanda. Food for thought.”
Vision appreciates the comment, “Thank you.” It is when she actually walks away that he is the one that has a realization of not re-invoking whatever trance the people of the town are in. “Darcy!” She turns expectedly towards him as he approaches with his hands out and ready to take the pain from her, except she swats his hands away, yet again.
“Stop it, I’m a better ally awake.”
Based on the prior two people he has spoken to in their awakened state, this seems a poor choice for her. “Does it not hurt?”
“I mean, yeah, feels like I went on a tequila bender last night and haven’t had water in weeks.” How she remains so lighthearted is beyond him, but he admires it immensely, “but I can’t help you if I’ve forgotten.”
Though he isn’t sure it is in her best interest to remain in such a state, the idea of a confidant is appealing. “Very well.”
Seconds after she walks away, blue streaks materialize around Vision, both his sons and his wife appearing suddenly in front of him. This is unusual but he doesn’t get a chance to inquire about their speedy entrance, Billy rushing towards him first with a relieved, “Dad!” Vision catches him, using the momentum of his son’s leap to lift him and hold him close, Billy’s arm wrapping protectively around Vision’s neck. Tommy follows shortly after, his run far more powerful as he slams into Vision’s torso with a tight hug.
It is Wanda who hesitates, her eyes faintly glowing red, a deep, concerned frown on her lips. “Vizh,” her voice cracks and his heart breaks at the pain she tries so valiantly to mask. Vision manages to get one of his hands free enough to motion Wanda closer. She accepts the offer, one arm winding around his waist and the other laying on Tommy’s shoulders.
They have only been home for three hours and yet this is the tenth Wanda has found herself standing in the doorway, hand propped along the wooden frame. In the room Vision lies in bed, eyes closed and resting, Billy is wrapped around him, his arm thrown across his father’s chest and head buried just under the vibranium dot of Vision’s chin, and Tommy is curled snuggly into Vision’s other side. The boys are still in their costumes, Billy’s cape sprawled behind him on their mattress and Tommy’s now flat hair looking a bit crusty from the spray dye. It’s an idyllic scene and yet Wanda fights back tears, shoving the drops away from her eyes as if they are an enemy that needs to be thwarted.
She almost lost Vision...again. The boys almost lost their father at ten years old, an age for which grief is overwhelming and confusing, can shape a life forever, or so she intimately knows.
Reluctantly her body pulls away from the door, arms crossing over her chest as she walks back downstairs, not once considering peeking in on her brother in the guest room. That is a problem she is still trying to figure out, the man a stranger, an antagonist, but with her brother’s name. There are too many inconsistencies in his behavior, too many contradictions in his words, half of them true to her brother and the other far too knowing of events that occurred after his death. Unsurprisingly he and Vision clash, a thought that briefly makes her mouth perk up, always having a belief that if her brother lived he would have begrudgingly accepted her relationship while also making it his personal duty to make jabs at Vision, who Wanda always knew would take it with a silent dignity that was then removed late at night when he’d insist on lengthy conversations with her to figure out the insults. That’s what life was supposed to be. What life is now, technically.
The gurgle of water washes away these thoughts, her focus now solely on filling the kettle and getting it on a burner to boil. Except the distraction is short lived as she sits down at the kitchen table to wait, fingers interwoven and glowing faintly of the residual scarlet energy she had to use tonight. Wanda fixates on her fingers, bending and straightening them, unsure how she knew what to do or even had the power to expand the town. But that’s not the most troubling incident of the night. No, what pesters at her resolve is a simple thought: Why did Vision want to leave? They have everything here - a house, Billy and Tommy, each other, and the time they always tried so hard to find.
Wanda startles at the creak of the kitchen cabinet, heart still racing as she takes in the curve of Vision’s shoulders and the vibranium band along the back of his head. Silently he makes her a cup of tea, hands moving calmly through the ritual he created, the cup always the same distance from the kettle, bag placed at the bottom with the string hanging out precisely two inches, both hands holding the kettle (one on the handle and one at the base) as a perfect arc of water fills the cup, and finally one and a third spoonfuls of sugar. The sequence completed, Vision walks the cup to the table, placing it gently down with barely a clink from the porcelain. She expects him to sit down across from her, to silently stare for a minute or so before bringing up the town again, reopening the wounds of their last fight because they never actually resolved anything other than to try and act normal around the boys. But he doesn’t, instead he takes her hand, tugging it until she stands, and then he hugs her, engulfing her entire being in his presence. The firmness of his chest and the tinny waft of vibranium are just as soothing as the kisses he peppers along the top of her head, each one more doting than the last. “Vizh,” Wanda reluctantly pulls back a few inches, hand squeezing between their bodies until she can cup his face, “are you…”
“I know,” he kisses her properly now, not like the emotionless peck earlier in the day, this one imbued with all of his love and all of his concern. “I know enough.”
A chill moves through her body, limbs growing rigid and heart almost coming to a complete stop. “What do you mean?”
Vision’s fingers move up to trace lines through her hair, palm coming to rest on her cheek. The surety of his prior statement lessens, mouth sinking lower until it’s a shallow frown. “I know that I am,” it is unlike him to pause like this, to seem to want to avoid a conversation he himself brought up, “that I was dead.”
Her denial is immediate and viscera, “What are you talking about, why would you…” but then his doleful gaze meets hers, the ridges of his synthetic skin bunched together in a show of deep, aching pain, though it is clear from the way he holds her, the way he places a far too gentle kiss to her forehead, as if the action itself might knock her over, that he is more concerned for her than himself, which is the epitome of who he was...who he is. If there is anything she can offer that matches this unerring compassion, it has to be honesty because clearly hiding the truth from him will not stop his incessant march towards the truth. But that is easier to think about than it is to actually commit to doing. Wanda swallows down a sob and fights to keep her voice calm. “You were.” The confirmation is too much, her chest heaving as all the memories rush to the forefront of her mind--her hands erupting in red at the feel of the Mindstone fracturing, at the almost silent I love you , and then having to watch him come back only to die in a far more brutal way.
Strong arms that shouldn’t exist continue to encase her, draw her deeper into the comfort of his embrace, the feel of his fingers running through her hair with the same gentle “Wanda” he always said when soothing her. Deep down she knows it is all a lie, this life, this man, this blissful existence. Because as a Maximoff there is only one constant in life and it is sorrow, biting, empty, unavoidable sorrow. Which begs the question of how, exactly he found out. A question that infuriates her and invokes the well know feeling of being caged in by the inevitability of her life.
Wanda steps out of his arms, trying her best not to show how much pain that simple movement creates, her body screaming to remain against his forever, but selfishly she needs answers more than anything, needs information to help her regain some level of control over her emotions, has to know why he put his family through so much just to find out this awful truth. “Why aren’t you happy here?”
A denial forms quickly, his body taut at the accusation, “I am happy Wanda, how could I not be?”
“Because you left, you...you abandoned us today,” Wanda knows she shouldn’t use the next part in anger or for gain, but she needs her husband to understand the severity of it all. “Did you know Billy can sense you?”
Vision’s “He can?” is hard to read, both concerned and in awe, with something else she can’t quite pinpoint.
“Yes, and his first experience of that was feeling you try to die because we apparently aren’t important enough to stay alive for.” The comment hits as intended, Vision stepping back, horror forming in the spasming muscles of his face as he looks up towards the ceiling, towards where he left their sons. “What are you trying to find out there?”
Vision’s simple, “The truth,” is aggravatingly vague, thankfully, or not depending on how this goes, he clarifies, “There is something wrong in Westview, Wanda. The people are in agony.”
A fed up laugh comes out with her “Aren’t we all?” Only Vision can’t find the humor, the gears in his eyes twisting clockwise and counterclockwise while he stares at her, face ladened with a suffocating sympathy.
He takes a step towards her and she steps back, not missing the way her reaction hurts him. “Wanda, it is not like you to inflict pain on innocent people.”
Since they started this new life, her memories have been hazy, coming in and out of consciousness, enough clarity to understand that whatever is happening in Westview is preferable to outside of it. After tonight, after Pietro’s comment about her dead husband, it’s all there and she realizes that she’s never gotten to say out loud what she did, what Thanos forced her to do, the Avengers too scattered with all that needed to be attended to after his defeat to focus on anyone but themselves. So she squares her shoulders, lifts her head and puts all of her self loathing into her next comment, “If that’s true, then why did I kill you?”
This time when Vision steps towards her she lets him grip her arms, let’s him guide her until her face is pressed into his chest, allowing her to hear the beating of his synthetic heart. “You were only doing what I had asked.”
“Well it wasn’t worth it,” her voice is muffled by the teal sweater he’s wearing, “and I can’t, I can’t forgive myself.”
His arms tighten around her, one hand gripping the fabric of her sweatshirt and the other holding her head to his sternum. “You did nothing wrong. If anyone is to blame-”
It doesn't take a telepath to know what empty words he is about to mutter. Wanda forces herself from his embrace and stares hard into his eyes, “Don’t, Vision, just don’t. It won’t change what happened.”
Reluctantly he accepts it, moving cautiously back to the original topic of their discord, “Is this,” he gestures vaguely around them, “the result of,” it is still hard for him to say, which she appreciates because she can’t say it easily either, “my death?”
“I don’t know,,” this time he seems to accept her ignorance, which allows her a chance to actually consider it more. All she can really recall is the crushing loneliness and the suffocating despair of losing the last person she loved in the world. It’s not a stretch to assume that had something to do with now. “Maybe?” If he knows about his death, she reasons that she might as well tell him the other nightmare she discovered upon her own rebirth, something she’s tried to block out as best she can. “It could also be from finding out some shady government organization was experimenting on your corpse.”
Shock is too gentle a word, hatred a tiny bit too strong for the tone of his voice, “That does not seem like an activity I would condone.”
“It’s the exact opposite of what you requested.” Wanda thinks back to that day, and unlike Vision, pure, unabashed hatred flowed through her veins when she received an anonymous tip. Hatred at S.W.O.R.D, at the scientists going against Vision’s will, hatred at the world for being so awful, and hatred at her teammates who let it happen, who didn’t seem to consider that agencies like that lie, that they would never want the body only for “safe-keeping.” All Vision wanted was a burial and she was determined to provide him that, to allow herself the closure she needed. So she broke in, sickened at the way they’d disassembled him and had separate monitors attached to his limbs and head. “I broke in,” Vision holds his breath as she talks, “I took you from them and all I remember is flying away. I was going to bury you in the forest, like you wanted.” That’s where her memory stops and where Westview begins. “And then we were driving to our house after getting married.” Finally he releases his breath with a shuddering gasp. “That’s all I remember, you have to believe me that I have no idea what’s going on.” Unlike the other night, he wordlessly accepts her ignorance, mind likely still reeling from the revelations she shared. It is this lack of judgment that emboldens her to say what’s been swirling through her mind whenever the knowledge of reality sets in, a thought that should carry with it guilt but she can’t muster up guilt when she finally has what she has been denied over and over again. “But I’d be lying if I tried to convince you that I don’t prefer what we have in Westview.”
With a hand on her back, he leads her to the table, pulling out the chair in front of the barely steaming tea, and then he sits directly next to her, tenderly taking her left hand in his own, thumb rubbing absentmindedly along her wedding ring. “I cannot fault you in any way for that feeling. If not for being complicit in the pain of so many, I would wholly embrace this life we have now.”
His tacit disapproval is only slightly less painful than his yelling, but she has to begrudgingly accept that he may not be completely wrong. Whatever pain he has sensed in others was enough to make him tear through the barrier and risk losing his own family. “But what if,” still she fights against figuring it out, unsure she can handle what it might lead to, “what if fixing this means I lose you again,” which is already incomprehensible, but is made even more harrowing by the next possibility, “what if it means losing Billy and Tommy too?”
Tears lick at the corners of his eyes, a war waging on his lips of how to proceed. “It will be horrifying and it will be immensely difficult but you,” he grabs her other hand, his fingers forming a vice around her own and she isn’t sure if he is trying to convince her or himself more, “are so remarkably resilient.”
Sometimes she wishes his density manipulation applied beyond just his body. “Clearly not, Vizh. Look around us.”
Vision doesn’t, instead he looks down at their enjoined hands, a shaky breath recentering his thoughts. “I think we may be, as they say, putting the cart before the horse.” The verbal shift is so utterly ridiculous that she chuckles, an action that causes him to smile nervously. “Did I use it wrong?”
“No, it just, you always say it so academically.”
“I see.” Finally real, genuine amusement flits across his face. “Well, regardless, we don’t know what is happening, unless there is something you aren’t telling me.” It is not an accusation in the slightest, in fact it is said as an aside, almost hopeful that she’s waiting to surprise him with the solution.
There is a lot she hasn’t said, but none of it seems vital other than perhaps one observation. “I definitely have control here,” this itself is painful to admit. Where he is merely complicit if he remains here, she is actively continuing it, “but, I don’t, I don’t know how to explain it, but I don’t know how I’m doing this.” Vision takes in the admission, brow furrowing as he no doubts files it away in his future mysteries to solve mental folder. “Like tonight,” she thinks back to when Billy told her about the soldiers, to the moment she realized what Vision had done, “All I knew is that I needed to save you because I couldn’t lose you again. I didn’t have any idea of how or what to do, but I felt like if I just put all of my powers into it, that something would happen.”
It’s amazing how easily he transitions into his cool and clinical investigator voice, “Is this the first time you’ve felt that?”
“No. I mean sometimes I have an idea of what I’d like,” such as when she saw the beekeeper come out of the sewer and then vanquished it, “but other times I just have a hope it will be fixed.”
“That is a start.”
Wanda waits for more and when it doesn’t arrive, she pushes for it, “What does that mean?”
He releases her hands and pats his legs, an odd energy reinvigorating in him. “We must figure out the source of these alterations. Clearly it is not just you.” A fact she can’t say for certain but doesn’t have the heart to correct him on, enjoying how it feels like they’re a team again instead of bitter foes. “I met someone tonight who has knowledge of our prior lives.”
This is unexpected and terrifying. Perhaps the only good thing is that she knows it is not Pietro, because she is not willing to trust him, but to be fair, she isn’t sure she can trust whomever Vision found. “Who is it?”
“Her name is Darcy, she says she is an astrophysicist and has a seemingly strong grasp on what happens outside of Westview.”
Vision is not a very strong judge of character all the time, quick to trust and slow to lose hope in a person, as evidenced by his continued trust in her, yet she asks him anyway. “Are you sure we can trust her?”
“I believe so.”
“Okay.” For now she lets him hold on to that belief, knowing that she will be able to assess this person when they meet. Which also means she knows, deep down, that if this person ends up like Monica, one of S.W.O.R.D.'s cronies, that she’ll be forced to take control again.
The sincerity of his “Thank you,” and the tenderness with which he grabs her hand again, bringing it to his lips with a bit too much romantic melodrama, brings about a fluttering warmth in her chest she has so dearly missed, one that chases away all the disparaging thoughts of what is to come, “truly, for your honesty.” Wanda simply smiles in return, not entirely certain her honesty is worth much at the moment.
It is a relief when Vision maneuvers the conversation to a happier topic. “You said Billy could sense me tonight?”
Pride spreads her lips into a toothy grin, “He’s a natural telepath.”
Vision shares her feelings, sitting back with a satisfied smirk. “We shall have to see if he has your telekinesis as well.”
“We will. Also, Tommy has superspeed.”
Vision’s paternal delight perks up his entire body. “Remarkable.”
“They’re pretty impressive.” Wanda finally picks up the tea and takes a sip, not caring it no longer holds any warmth, far too enamored and distracted by Vision launching into a suggestion of a training regime for their sons, the Maximoff family seeming to be front and center in his mind. If there is any kindness in the world, they deserve at least one night to care about themselves and no one else.

Sacrifice (Alternate Thanos x reader)
Warnings: Angst, Infinity War spoilers, smut
Tumblr media
One year and six months later…
Sam had called you asking for assistance. They had located Vision’s whereabouts and needed your help in case anyone had gotten hurt. You contemplated on going as you knew Bucky and Nat were going to be there. You had spent most of your time with Clint and his family. They helped you deal with the breakup, but not so much with your miscarriage. To lose a child was tragic and horrible. You had lost all hope when the doctor told you would never be able to have a child.
Despite all the pain and suffering you were going through, you couldn’t be selfish. Not when you foresaw Thanos arriving to wipe out half of the universe. So that’s why you were in Wakanda preparing to fight the incoming army. You had nothing else to lose anyway.
You saw the Avengers jet land and out came Steve, Bucky, Nat, Bruce, Rhodey, Sam, Vision, and Wanda. You clear your throat and square your shoulders. You calm your senses as you slip effortlessly into an emotionless façade and stride over to the group with a dangerous and deadly confidence.
You ignore the startle gasps coming from Bucky and Natasha. You avoid the intensity of his gaze. You can’t bring yourself to look into his blue eyes or into Nat’s. So you focus on Steve and T’challa.
“Y/N!” Steve looks over to Sam, who explains he called you because they needed your help.
Seeing the tension amongst the group, T’challa stands by your side. “Y/n was waiting patiently outside the borders of Wakanda. I had Okoye bring her. She says she foresaw the battle coming ahead.”
“Is that true?” Steve hoped for good news.
“Yes. I saw 14 million, six hundred and five possibilities play out.” You cross your arms.
“And how many of those scenarios…”
You interrupted Steve knowing what he was going to say. “One.”
Your eyes sweep amongst the Avengers, each of them carry the look of fear, horror, and sadness. You ignore Bucky with everything you have. If it weren’t for him and his affair, maybe, just maybe your child would have been born.
“How can we be sure? There has to be more than one.” Bucky walks over standing beside Steve. He wants you to look at him. He wants to apologize. He wants another chance with you. He had been so blind and so in love with the idea of Natasha and the history they shared, he ruined a perfect relationship with you.
“There isn’t, Sergeant Barnes.” You reply tonelessly.
He opens his mouth to speak, but Steve looks at him and shakes his head to not start an argument. Especially now. You look off to the distant, like you could see something across the field.
“Y/N.” T’challa places his hand on your shoulder.
“There already here.” You grab your bow and follow T’challa.
“Evacuate the city. Engage all defenses and get this man a shield!” T’challa points to Steve.
Tumblr media
You had seen Steve desperately face off against Thanos. You draw an arrow from your quiver and aim. You watch as the arrow cuts the side of his face. Both of yours and Steve’s attacks had allowed Wanda to tearfully destroy Vision’s mind stone.
However, you all found yourselves hopelessly outmatched by Thanos and his dominion. Steve had been taken out by Thanos, who used the Power Stone to send in a concussive strike to blow him away.
Being the only one left standing you desperately fight back to buy everyone some time. You use your customized arrows to hit every single enemy within your sight.
You notice Steve grabbing the infinite gauntlet, it not only had surprised you but Thanos as well. Steve was again defeated by Thanos who incapacitated him with a single punch.
You shot arrow after arrow at Thanos, not making a dent. He’s impressed that you’re the only one left standing. Compared to him you were much smaller, more delicate. Yet there you stood, unfazed as you kept shooting at him. He approached you with a smile on his face.
“Why do you continue to fight, little warrior?” Thanos ripped your bow from your hands and tossed it away.
You use your assassin skills to punch and kick him, but like Thor and Hulk, he was too strong to feel any of your attacks. He grabs your arm and leans forward looking into your eyes. “I’ve seen you before…in my dreams.”
“We are connected.” You confessed, you knew long ago that you’re visions were tied to Thanos, seeing as you only had visions about him. You had refrained from telling anyone seeing as it was your burden to carry.
You look into his eyes and saw hope, curiosity, and lust. You could feel tears prickling but you tried your best to stop them from falling. However, you couldn’t stop the traitorous tears from running down your cheeks.
Thanos has never believed in love. He only cared about bringing balance. Until, he met you. You stirred something within him. Something he had locked away long ago.
He released your arm and extended his hand towards your cheek. He wipes the tears away. You look into his eyes, they were soft, showing concern and sadness towards you. You had seen other versions of your fate, you were his savior…his light. The other version’s, you had seen you own demise.
Thanos breaks contact with you and pulls you behind him. Protecting you from Thor’s axe. Despite Thor’s attempt, Thanos still achieved his goal of killing off half the universe.
Thanos looked to you and extended his hand out to you, hoping you would escape with him. So you could begin your lives as partners. You a mere human, was now one of the most precious treasures, a gift from the universe. He wanted to take you away from Earth and the dangers that lied within it. He wanted to protect you. He wanted his dreams to come true.
But you, you don’t move. You stand there contemplating whether you should take his offer or not. But then, you think back to all the pain and suffering you had endured. Bucky cheating on you with Natasha and the loss of your unborn child. You truly had nothing left to lose, maybe Clint. But he had a family and Tony had Pepper. They could move on. You would be alone.
“Come with me, beloved.” His eyes hold sorrow as he inches closer to you. With the short amount of time, you had become much more to him. You were his heart. You could be his home.
In the end, you made your choice to leave with the Mad Titan. You took his hand and let him wrap his arms around you. You make the mistake in looking back. You see the disappointed looks coming from Thor and Steve.
“I’m sorry.” Is the last thing you say to either of them before Thanos retreats with you in his arms. You miss Bucky calling out for you and disintegrating before Steve’s eyes.
Tumblr media
Three years later…
You were out collecting fruits and vegetables to take back to your beloved. It’s been three years since you left Earth with Thanos. Three years you did not regret your choice. However, you do feel immense grief for all those that lost their loved ones. Which is why you were out picking crops, an excuse to use the stones and reverse the actions of the Decimation.
You had a vision of Thanos death by the hands of Thor and you couldn’t allow that to happen. Thanos had become too important. He weaved his way into your life and gave you hope and love. Things that you thought you would never have again. So in order to protect him and give back to the universe, you had to undo his actions.
With all six of the stones wrapped around you, five on your collar bone and the mind stone on your forehead. You feel the power course through you. You’ve never felt anything like this before and it felt good. You snap your fingers and hear the loud boom go off, no doubt Thanos would hear.
You smile to yourself knowing this is what was best for everyone. Plus you threw in two surprises for Thor, he had lost a lot and you knew you could not endure all that he had. Which is why you gave Loki and Heimdall back. In hopes to keep him away. You pick up the crate filled with crops and make your way back to Thanos.
Upon entering your home, you set the crate down on the table and look around in search of your beloved. He steps through the doorway and sees you. He sighs with relief, until he notices the infinity stones on you.
“What have you done, beloved?”
“I’ve restore half the universe.” You take his big purple hand in yours. “This is the best choice for both of us. I can’t… see you die.”
“You’ve foreseen my death.”  He caress your cheek with his finger.
“Yes. Which is why I made the decision to restore things as they once were. I can’t lose you. I-I love…”
“Yes.” He beams.
“I love you and I can’t lose you…” Suddenly his lips are on yours.
He picks you up and holds you firmly against his chest. You wrap your arms around him, while he walks over to your shared bed and places you gently on it. He towers over you.
“You have no idea what you do to me, beloved?”
“Actually I do have an idea,” you stare at his hard rock cock wanting to be free of his pants. You bite your lip seductively. This isn’t the first time you’ve had sex and it won’t be the last.
Thanos smiles at you, “Ever observant. Come take off those stones and let me…”
“Uh, about that I can’t.”
“Why is that?”
You try to pull off one of stones but it’s stuck, it’s like the stones don’t want to part from you. “See.”
“Allow me?” Thanos reaches over to pull off the power stone, but even he can’t pry them off of you. “Interesting?”
“How about we forget about the stones right now and we can go back to making passionate love.” You rip off your shirt and bra and throw them across the room.
“Needy aren’t we.”
You cup your breast and begin to play with them. You can see the lust in his eyes, “Well, are you gonna stand there and watch or are you gonna fuck me.”
Your hands slowly make their way down to unbuckle your pants. Thanos removes your pants and throws them into the corner. He kneels down and as he did so, in one swift motion, he tore your panties from you. He grabbed your thighs and spread them. You could already feel yourself getting wet.
He lunges forward and you cry out and flinch as his mouth roughly latches onto your pussy. His tongue was everywhere. In your folds and on your clit. Every sensitive spot he licked caused you to moan.
You grabbed the sheets as your thigh muscles start to tighten. You start to buck against his mouth. Thanos holds you down and continues to feast on your pussy. He starts to suck on your clit, your thighs tremble and your stomach tightens.
You arch your back and continue to moan louder and louder until you come. You scream his name as Thanos licks and slurps, not wanting to waste a single drop of your come.
Thanos climbs up and the bed sinks upon his massive weight. He’s going to have to repair it again after he’s done with you.
“I want you.” You try to regain your breath.
“Patience, beloved.” He slid his finger and filled you up easily. His finger was about the size of a normal man’s cock.
Your stomach muscles contract as he starts pumping in and out of you. You head falls back as you moan loudly. Thanos continues to pump, his finger makes a squelching sound. You grab your breast and play with them.
“Harder.”
Thanos pumps you harder and faster, it doesn’t take long for a second orgasm to hit. Thanos removes his finger from your pussy. He brings it to his mouth, he sucks and licks off the juices on them.
He kisses your breasts and your neck before he aligns his cock with your warm soaked pussy. He gently pushed his tip inside of you. He inches his head in further and you gasp as you could see a bulge growing in your stomach.
“Are you alright, beloved?”
“Fuck me, please.”
He pushed his head all the way in. You moan and cry out as you tighten your grip on the sheets. He pulled back and thrust forward. His pace was slow and steady at first, to allow you to adjust to him.
You look up to him and see the concern in his eyes, but you can also see he wants to fuck you senseless. “Beloved, this isn’t our first time. Do not hold back. Fuck me hard. Fuck me fast.”
“If that is what you wish…”
“Yes, please. Just fuck me already.”
Thanos pounds into you relentlessly. You scream as he continued to hit your g-spot. Again and again.
“Mine. All mine.” Thanos thrusted again into your pussy. He was claiming you. Marking you. No other man would try to take you away from him. No other man could compare to him. No other man could give you pleasure like he did. You belong with him and he belong with you.

CHAPTER 10:
Stephen Strange finally texts you that he’s ready to try and crack the Reality gem.
You, Tony, and Vision, have to go of course, but Thor wants to come to meet the ‘Infinity Beer Wizard’ again. Loki accuses him of being an alcoholic, Thor only laughs.
Stephen receives you at the door, with his cape next to him carrying a tray with cups of coffee. Everyone takes one and walks in to set up, while Thor only smiles at Stephen. He rolls his eyes and makes a large mug of beer appear in Thor’s hand.
‘Haha thanks’ he smiles and walks to the opposite corner of the room to take a seat. He isn’t interested in doing anything else.
‘I’ve put Wong in charge for today’ Stephen walks over to your group. ‘Can I help with anything?’ ‘Nah, we got it. Just tell us how this is gonna work’ you say.
He lifts his hand to show you his sling ring. ‘I’ll be entering the mirror dimension with Vision’. ‘Will you be fine?’ ‘I will, I have my own protection spells around me’. ‘We couldn’t figure out a way to surveil inside, we spent weeks in the lab’ Tony interrupts. ‘You sure you don’t have any magic stuff that’ll help us keep an eye on Vision?’
Stephen scoffs at Tony’s use of the word “magic”. ‘No, just me’.
You see that Tony hates giving up control like this, but it IS for the greater good.
‘I must mention, before we begin…’ Stephen says, ‘If I feel like it’s getting out of hand, and the dark dimension is drawing in, I will pull us out immediately…’ ‘Yes, of course’ you say. ‘…with or without the stone’ he finishes. Tony shoots a look at him. ‘What does that mean?’ ‘I mean you could very well lose the stone if things get out of hand’. ‘We can’t lose even a single stone; they’re supposed to be safe with us’. Stephen shrugs. ‘It’s your call’.
Tony turns back to look at you, ‘Did he tell you about this?’ ‘Tony…’ ‘DID he?’ You sigh. ‘He didn’t about this specifically, but he did warn that the stone may be sucked into the dark dimension’. ‘Tell me we have a backup plan in case that happens’ Tony demands.
You shake your head apologetically.
‘There is no way to retrieve it unless you are willing to risk opening a portal to the dark dimension right above Earth. And if you do that, you’ll have bigger concerns than the stone’ Strange adds.
You genuinely didn’t think Stephen would be okay letting the Reality Stone go, and are now questioning if you should do it at all. You see Tony internally struggle.
‘What are the chances of losing the stone?’ he asks. ‘How have your sessions been with Loki?’ Stephen asks Vision. ‘Good. I have been able to control it so far, and get better at it every time’. ‘Then not much’ Stephen says.
Tony is still understandably unsure. You wish you could weigh in, but you’re genuinely torn as well.
‘We’ll do it’ he says finally. Your eyes widen and you reach out to touch his shoulder. ‘Are you sure?’ you ask. He sighs. ‘No. But I trust Vision’.
You know how hard it is for Tony to let go of control and trust someone. You hug him. ‘It’ll be fine’ you try to reassure him, even if you don’t believe it yourself.
‘Then we may begin’ Stephen motions for you and Tony to get out of the way so he can create the mirror dimension. Once created, he and Vision enter, leaving you, Tony, and Thor alone.
‘So… they’re in the room then’ Thor says. ‘Yes, just… whatever they’re doing, we cannot see, and it can’t affect us’ you explain.
His mug continues to replenish itself. Tony plops down on the floor and crosses his legs, staring at where Strange and Vision stepped before disappearing.
Now, all you can do is wait.
xx
Thor has fallen asleep on the floor, and Tony is up, staring at the wall, no doubt day dreaming up another fantastic invention. You’re laying down with your hands on your stomach, only staring up at the ceiling, not a single thought in your head.
Five hours pass, and you hear static electricity. You shoot up to look, and see golden sparks in a circle appear. Stephen walks out with Vision and someone else.
She has no features- only a body shaped like a woman’s, glowing red. Her movements are fluid, but if she stood still, she could easily be mistaken for just a glass sculpture. You’re fascinated, though you can’t look too much because it hurts your eyes.
Tony wakes up too, and he’s staring at the new person.
‘W-who the hell is that?’ ‘Raunverkuleiki’ Vision says. ‘Reality!’ Thor exclaims. ‘What?’ Tony says. ‘Raunverkuleiki is Old Norse for Reality’ he explains. ‘The origins of the stones aren’t Norse, though’ you say. ‘It turns out Reality comes from Norse...’ Stephen opens his necklace, and the room glows green. ‘Time comes from Hinduism’. ‘Wait, what?’ you ask. ‘You didn’t mention that’. ‘So each one’s from a different pagan belief…’ Tony starts. ‘HEY watch it’ Thor warns, not liking Tony’s use of the word “pagan”. ‘Sorry… I meant. You know what I meant, so who is this now? What happens?’ ‘She speaks to me’ Vision says. ‘What’s she saying?’ Thor asks. ‘She wants to go back. I promised we’d let her go after asking some questions and she agreed’.
Confused looks are exchanged. ‘Well…’ Tony looks at Raunverkuleiki again.
‘There’s no way to take her out of here’ Tony says.
‘If I may…’ Stephen disappears for a moment and reappears again, holding some clothes. ‘It’s made by the same monk who made the casing for my necklace. It should be able to contain her powers till you get to the tower. But you might just want to keep from anyone seeing her face. Or lack thereof’.
‘She finds that offensive and is asking you to apologize’ Vision says. ‘Sorry…’ Stephen says immediately.
Vision takes the clothes and wraps her in them, finally putting a hood over her head.
‘You came by car, yes?’ Stephen asks. Tony nods. ‘Bring it to the entrance, close as you possibly can. We’ll put her in’.
xx
‘Okay, your name is a bit long, can we call you Raun for short?’ Tony asks, driving to the Avengers Tower. ‘She says that’s not her name’ Vision says. ‘Yeah I just… okay, never mind’ Tony parks in his private parking, which conveniently leads directly into his lab, where Bruce is waiting.
‘What the hell?’ he cries, as you bring Raunverkuleiki in. ‘Hello Bruce. This is Raunverkuleiki. She doesn’t like Raun. She is also literally reality, and wishes to go back’ you inform. ‘Um…’   ‘My sentiments exactly’ Tony says. ‘I… go back where?’ Bruce asks. ‘She won’t say, but she’s sure she doesn’t want to stay on this planet’ Vision says. ‘She can help the…’ ‘It’s not her job to’ you interrupt Tony.
He glares at you, but you don’t care. ‘She’s kind enough to answer our questions, but she has no obligation to help us further our research or make new things using her. She has been exploited enough by Thanos and The Collector’.
There is silence for a few seconds.
‘She says she likes you very much’ Vision pipes up, finally. ‘Fine. Ask her if there’s any special conditions she’d like to stay in while we make a list of things we want’ Tony sighs in resignation. ‘She says she liked the case you kept her in when she was a stone. Quite warm, but not too much’.
Tony points to the statis cube. You see Raunverkuleiki sprint to the cube and shut herself in, then promptly curl up against the wall. You’re sure she is whatever her version of asleep is.
‘How’d you do it?’ you ask Vision. ‘Well, I kept manipulating reality until she could no longer keep all the changes together. It took quite a while because she’s pretty strong’. ‘I don’t doubt it’ you look back at her. ‘Can we take a minute to just talk about what we’ve achieved here now?’ Bruce asks. ‘We DID it… we finally did it!’
Tony smiles for the first time in hours, and it makes you feel relieved. ‘We couldn’t have done it without you’ he tells you. ‘If you weren’t such a nerd, I mean’.
You laugh. ‘I bet you want a drink’. ‘You’re absolutely right, but I think I’m going to spend some time here figuring out what I want to ask her’. ‘But… we are celebrating, yes? We’ve been working on this for months’ you say. ‘I’m offended that you feel like you need to ask’ he grins, ‘Do you know me?’
xx
You walk through the corridor to Nat’s room to tell her of the developments and pass by Loki.
‘Hey!’ you exclaim. ‘We did it! She’s alive! She's here!’ ‘That’s amazing!’ he grabs you to give you a hug, and you hug him back. ‘Her name is Raunverkuleiki’ you say. ‘She’s beautiful, she’s in the lab right now, asleep I guess’. ‘Wait, she’s Norse?’ ‘I KNOW RIGHT, apparently Stephen’s Time stone is Hindu. I have so many questions, but it’s been a very emotional day for everyone, so I’m keeping it for later’. ‘Can I… see her?’ Loki asks. ‘Sure, I don’t see why not. Just not right now, okay, she’s tired’. ‘Of course not now, right now I want to talk to you’ he grins at you. ‘I’ve been dying to know, I would have come myself, but Clint wanted my help with something’. ‘I don’t know much, but I can dramatize the little I know’. ‘I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ll get us some food; I know you haven’t eaten yet’.
You can’t help but smile. You like how he has silently taken up the responsibility of caring for you, like you did for him. It’s so warm and familiar, you don’t want to rebel against how it feels.
You tell him you’ll be right back after briefing Natasha, and he says he’ll keep the food warm.
‘When is she going back?’ Nat asks. ‘Well, I suppose it’s up to her. Right now, she just wants to sleep, I guess. Vision used the stone for like five hours straight, she’s exhausted as hell’. ‘I hope Tony leaves her be for a whole day then, girl’s earned it’. You nod in agreement. ‘We are celebrating tonight though. I mean it’s months of researching and hypothesising and late night experiments…’ ‘You don’t have to defend it’ Nat laughs. ‘I know, Bruce has been giving me every detail, every day’. ‘Excellent. I’ll see you tonight then’ you turn around to walk away. ‘Hey, listen…’ Nat calls you back. ‘Loki was asking me about when you guys left’. ‘Oh?’ ‘Yeah, he asked if I knew about your past. Asked for access to some of your files. I refused of course, but he said it was to help you. I just want your confirmation on whether I should allow him access’.
You’re obviously uncomfortable with this, and shake your head. ‘I’ll speak to him’ you assure her.

Character profile: Shuri
Tumblr media
Princess Shuri Udaku of Wakanda is the country’s resident teen genius with an eye for science and a heart of gold. Canonically the smartest person in the MCU, Shuri uses her intellect to improve her country and help her people whilst still being able to hold her ground in a fight, even against former Black Panther Killmonger. Additionally, in the comics, Shuri has a mire of superpowers brought on with intense training in the Djalia which include super-speed, animal transmogrification, density manipulation and the ability to reanimate corpses for short periods of time.
Shuri’s personality and motivations pair well with her vast and complex skills and abilities, creating an overly rounded character that many viewers wound up getting attached to and protective over.
Shuri’s most well-known characteristic is her intellect, a skill that is focused on greatly throughout the Marvel movies she appears in. In addition to having vast knowledge and experience in Design and technology, engineering and robotics, we can also use evidence to conclude that she has some background in medical science and psychology.
In Black Panther, it is heavily implied that Shuri performed the life-saving surgery on Everett Ross. Furthermore, at the end of the same film we see Bucky recovering from the HYDRA control, and Shuri’s lines make it seem likes she’s the one helping him recover and reintegrate into society.
In Infinity war, she was entrusted with the important role of removing the Mind Stone from Vision’s head without killing him, something previously thought impossible by Bruce and the other Avengers. She went ahead with this despite not having a lot of time and knowing that the fate of her country and the lives of herself and her people were at risk.
That protection and advancement of Wakanda is one of Shuri’s greatest motivations which drive her character. While her disinterest in following Wakanda’s traditions is reflected upon by multiple characters with various reactions, its is clear from her actions in Black Panther that she holds these customs and beliefs as significant to her. She actively fights for Wakanda when she learns of Killmonger’s plan to revolutionise which would have brought systemic change to Wakanda as well as the outside world. At the end of the day, Shuri may not be personally invested in cultural traditions, she likely understands and respects their significance to the people of Wakanda. She also uses her resources and scientific excellence to advance Wakanda far beyond any other civilisation in the world.
With that being said, Shuri shows an affinity for cultures outside Wakanda, with an emphasis on American cultural icons. She quotes vines, makes footwear-related puns and expresses excitement in visiting places in America. When T’Challa creates the first Wakandan International Outreach Centre, he appoints Shuri the head of the science and information exchange, to which she reacts with excitement. This would allow her to mix her cultural interest with her intellectual knowledge.
In addition to her intellect, we see Shuri fight multiple times throughout the MCU, first in Black Panther and again in Infinity War and Endgame. She maintains the use of the same weapon throughout all of this, a pair of gauntlets of her own invention which fire sonic/kinetic blasts of energy. These are entirely distance weapons, something that is uncommon within what we’ve seen of Wakanda, and from this we can draw that Shuri prefers to fight at a distance rather than close range combat. This plays to her strengths as she is smaller and younger than most other fighters, and does not have the assistance of the Heart-shaped herb to level the playing field for her.
Tumblr media
This cannot be said for the comics version of Shuri, who has a number of superpowers including having taken the Heart-Shaped Herb and training with a spirit in the Djalia, Wakanda’s plain of collective knowledge and memory. She gained a number of powers from this, including the ability to transform her body into a flexible stone-like material with enhanced durability that cannot be dented by gunfire or powerful energy weapons. Comic Shuri is also capable of animorphism which allows her to transform herself and whoever she is in direct contact with into a flock of black birds, or a singular large dark bird, super speed and the ability to temporarily reanimate Wakandan corpses. However, reanimating corpses takes a lot of energy from her, meaning she can do it for only a short period of time.
Her passion for science, and success within Wakanda’s scientific field, leads her to be content within her role in the royal family. Shuri shows no grievance about her position as princess and seems to have accepted completely that unless something tragic were to happen to her brother, she will always be less powerful than him both physically and in the oligarchy of Wakanda.
After Infinity War, Angela Bassett asserted in an interview with Screen Rant that both Ramonda and her daughter Shuri survived the Infinity War snap. This led a large amount of people in the Black panther Fan community to believe that, in her Brother’s absence, Shuri became the Black Panther and queen of Wakanda. However this turned out to be a misdirect and Endgame promotional posters and trailers confirmed she was, in fact, dusted. Her absence put a question mark over who lead Wakanda in those five years, a topic that is debated to this day.
However, Black Panther fans haven’t given up hope that we will one day see Shuri take up the mantle of the Black Panther in a future Marvel movie like she did in the comics.
Many of Shuri’s outfits and choices of physical appearance have significance to different real-world African cultures, from the braids in her hair to the choices of necklaces and other jewelry.
The outfit Shuri is wearing during her first scene in Black Panther features an Adinkra symbol, a set of cultural symbols from the Asante/Ghana region of Africa.
Tumblr media
This Adinkra symbol, Wawa Aba, can mean many things depending on what you read and how you interpret. In a Vanity Fair interview, Costume designer Ruth Carter explained the symbol means 'purpose’, a reference to Shuri’s purpose within Wakanda as the scientific innovator. Other websites cite this symbol as representing hardiness, toughness and perseverance, all of which can be related to elements of Shuri’s personality.
Shuri’s personality itself is intricate and can be summed up in many ways. She’s a Disney princess, but escapes the connotations of a typical princess by not relying on anyone to fight her battles for her and by being unrelenting in standing up for what she believes in, which is a show of strength in itself.
Shuri takes pride in her work and chases innovation no matter what on whatever she invents, believing there’s no end to a device’s ability to be improved. She is 100% committed to any task and puts her mind to everything she does. Shuri also has pride in herself and her achievements, in her family and in Wakanda as a country.
Along with characters like Klaue, she’s mostly the lighthearted comic relief of the film. While she has her sombre and serious moments, her main goal is to be optimistic, funny and uplifting using comedic timing, teasing, sarcasm and punchy one-liners to lift heavy scenes. Shuri has an almost child-like demeanour and never really takes a stake in formality which balances out other characters.
Shuri is, in many ways, the perfect younger sister character that people could easily get attached too and form a bond with. She’s intelligent and optimistic with a balanced set of skills and a sparkling personality.

How about a Tony lives fic?? 😭
Where do we go, now that we won?
Tumblr media
Summary: After winning the battle against Thanos, whatever it took, the Avengers need to get back on track with what’s supposed to be their lives now and pay their respect to the ones that passed away. As they deal with consequences, some of the original decide it’s time to settle and to let the new generation step up.
Chapter 1: Tony
“Everybody wants a happy ending, right? But it doesn’t always roll that way. Maybe this time. I’m hoping if you play this back… it’s in celebration. I hope families are reunited. I hope we get it back, in somewhat like a normal version of the planet has been restored, if there ever was such a thing. God, what a world. Universe now. If you told me 10 years ago that we weren’t alone, let alone you know to this extent… I mean, I wouldn’t have been surprised. But come on, you know. That epic forces of darkness and light that have come into play. And for better or worse, that’s the reality Morgan’s going to find a way to grow up in. So I found a private area to record a little greeting in case of an untimely death on my part. Not that death at any time is ever timely.”
The holographic image of Tony Stark was playing from his Iron Man helmet while Pepper, Morgan, Rhodey, and Happy were sitting in the couch watching it. Tony’s voice was the only one in the room until a screen appeared right next to it, and the face on the screen was the same in the hologram.
“Why are you all watching this? This was supposed to be an afterlife message, but I’m still not done with life. Or trying to, at least. Hence, it’s supposed to be a private thing.”
Everybody standing in the room opened a smile. “We didn’t know you were awake,” Pepper answered.
“I think whatever it is that you gave me, go get some more because the pain is starting to kick in.” He tried to smile over the pain but only got to show them a grimace.
His wife quickly stood up. “I think Nebula left us some more of that cocktail…” She left to another room and came back with a plastic bag on her hands. Inside, there were some tubes with a colorful and gooey liquid. “Rhodey, can you get in touch with her again so she can bring us some more?”
“Sure thing.” James Rhodes nodded and stood up as both the screen and the hologram turned off. “You think he’ll be okay by Friday?”
“We hope so… but he’ll figure out a way to be there.” She shrugged and went up to the stairs. Rhodey gave Morgan a kiss in her head and said goodbye to Happy as he went out.
As the engines of Rhodey’s car started, Pepper was entering her room where her husband rested in the bed. The whole room has been taken by a lot of machines and medical equipment, balloons, flowers and drawings from friends and Iron Man fans as the word about the battle got out. There was a lot of praise from the public when people thought Iron Man was dead, and the whole family is having a hard time leaving the house due to the paparazzi and the press all over the streets nearby. It was still hard for her to see Tony in the way he was, but at least he was still alive. She could take that, and she was thankful enough that her daughter would be able to grow with her father around.
Tony was lying on the bed, his injuries all over his body. His right side was dark and burned due to the damage caused by the infinity stones, and even though it was slightly getting better from the medicine, his situation was still pretty bad. It was stressful enough for her to see him that way and know that she could do nothing about it, but she knew what he did was a necessary move to take it away from Thanos.
Every time Pepper closed her eyes she could see it all again. Thanos standing there, staring at Tony as he raised his hand with the gauntlet. For a brief couple of seconds, she froze, paralyzed in horror for what Tony was about to do. She knew he was going to die even before her mind could put a rational explanation to that. At that moment, her mind put all the power of the suit to the thrusters to get to him as fast as she could, but Wanda got to him first, blasting the gauntlet with her power while another blast came from a distance, where a dizzy Carol Danvers seemed to send all she had to the same place, barely holding on after being beaten down with one of the infinity stones by Thanos.
Somehow their powers combined - which had similarities to the stones - managed to hold its energy stable enough for the snap. The three of them survived, but they all fell down in the battlefield, their lives hanging by a thread. Wanda was sent to Wakanda to recover, Carol was taken to another planet so she could restabilize her powers, and Tony was finally at home after spending some days in the ICU, receiving help from Shuri and T’Challa and a medicine cocktail from outer space, carefully collected and brought by Nebula, the blue robotic woman who got to spend some days with Tony in space.
So many new people, but thanks to them, Pep could sit in the bed, look at the man she loved and have him look back at her with a weak smile. “How are you holding up?” She asked, resting her arm on his arm with care.
“I’ll be up as soon as you realize. Promise.”
She laid a kiss on his forehead. “Take your time.”
“How’s Maguna?” He asked.
“Oh, she saw me flying on that suit and is dying for me to let her do the same. The apple never falls far from the tree, I guess.” She chuckled. “But she.. we are fine. You have nothing to worry about.” She put her hand on her neck and finished the sentence with a sigh, quickly standing up again and going to the machine that was closer to the bed.
“I know that look, Ms. Potts…” Tony followed her with his eyes as she prepared the medicine he was going to take. The pain was taking over once again, so he was actually grateful she was taking care of him. As she always did. “You don’t have to do it all alone. I don’t want you to.”
“I know, Tony… I- it’s a lot to process and there’s a lot of things to do. Someone needs to do them.”
“Pep, please. Don’t take it all by yourself. You… I wish I could help you, but there isn’t much I can do in this bed.” He meant to speak louder and maybe quicker, but the pain didn’t let him continue talking a blue streak. “Please, honey, take care.”
Pepper held his hand after quickly checking the monitor as his heart rate went up and the beeps of his vital signs were faster. “I will. Don’t worry, baby. I promise you.” She caressed the left side of his face, stroking her thumb on his cheek. “Now, you need to rest.”
Tony nodded as the medicine entered his veins, his smile was faint as his face showed how tired he was.
“When is it Nat’s…” He let the words fall, but it wasn’t sure it was due to physical or emotional pain.
“On Friday.”
“ Excuse me, ma’am.”
They both smiled once they heard the AI’s voice. “No, I wasn’t talking about you, Friday.” Pepper stood up, putting her hair behind her ears.
“ Your daughter is trying to reach some cereal in the kitchen. It is highly probable that she’ll end up injured by items there are likely to fall from the shelves above.”
“Oh, shit.” She threw a kiss to her husband and ran downstairs. “ Morgan! ”

a not-so-brief history of buckynat (post-widow hunt)
So a lot has happened with our favorite spy couple in the last few years, so I thought it might be helpful for some shippers who haven’t completely kept up to make a list of everything they’ve been through in that time. So without further ado, here’s a quick guide that no one asked for, starting with:
Black Widow Hunt
Tumblr media
This was the unfortunate end of their relationship, not by choice. A fellow ex-Soviet spy, Leo Novokov, grew jealous of Bucky’s success and angry that he never looked for the other agents, so he set out to ruin his life by stealing his girl... pretty literally. He kidnapped and brainwashed Natasha into thinking she was a double agent, sending Bucky and co. on a wild goose chase trying to get her back. They eventually do -- but Natasha’s lost all her memories of Bucky, and he makes the difficult decision not to force her to undergo experimental methods to have her memories regained. (This decision sometimes draws criticism because on the one hand, that isn’t his choice to make -- however, he did not want the doctors to mess with her head on his account, and so here we are.)
The Electric Ghost
Tumblr media
After their separation, Bucky kind of goes off the deep end. Really, he basically quit working for SHIELD and he’s going into bars and beating the crap out of everyone. He’s trying to make peace with his past when Nick Fury comes to him with a mission and pretty much tricks him into helping SHIELD again. From there he ends up fighting Tesla Tarasova, the Electric Ghost, who is using a type of Cosmic Cube she calls the Tarasova Tesseract to try and change her past. She ends up taking Bucky with her, and even tempts him with the ability to stop Leo Novokov, but he convinces her she’s wrong (”You can’t fix the past, Tesla. You can only search for the strength to change the future.”), and he takes just one moment with the Cube for himself -- and goes back to kiss Natasha one last time.
The Tightly Tangled Web & Last Days
Tumblr media
This is quite the reunion. Bucky’s mission is a gang -- Natasha’s mission is a case. They end up on the same train, at the same time, fighting the same bad guys, but Natasha only knows Bucky as the Winter Soldier (Black Widow #8). After this, Bucky keeps an eye on her from afar, and ends up getting her out of a couple sticky situations. Their final interaction in this run involves Bucky promising that he will always be there for her. It’s probably around this time she begins to suspect that he isn’t just the Winter Soldier to her -- although nothing is certain. (It’s worth noting that by this point, Bucky has become the Man on the Wall -- an agent whose purpose is to protect the planet from threats -- a job which he inherited from Nick Fury.)
No More Secrets
Tumblr media
Another Black Widow story, this time Bucky is the one who gets kidnapped -- after he’s caught by Natasha’s childhood rival, Recluse, watching out for her. He spends the entire run acting as a guardian angel, but inevitably Natasha has to save his ass from Recluse who enjoys taunting him by telling Natasha about his feelings for her and beating him over the head with a rifle. It turns out that Nick Fury sent him to collect Natasha, however, and after their trip gets a little rocky (a guy’s head explodes and a tiny murder child tries to hijack their spaceship), Bucky and Nat save each other -- first, Natasha empties her oxygen tank into Bucky’s so he’ll have enough air to get to the ship, and then Bucky revives her with CPR. They share a kiss, and it’s implied that Natasha now at least knows about their past together. She has a job to finish, however, so they part ways on their return to Earth.
Civil War II & Thunderbolts
Tumblr media
Here’s where timelines get a little weird. Somewhere in here, Bucky hears the prophecy that Steve Rogers is going to be killed by Miles Morales, so being the rational person he is he attempts to capture Miles so that this can’t happen. Except at this time, he’s a fugitive from SHIELD for hiding Kobik. He ends up captured and in a jail cell, where he is confronted by Steve Rogers himself, who tries to get him to give Kobik’s location. The Thunderbolts rescue him, and it’s made clear he doesn’t trust Steve with this information. This is when Steve -- who is actually the Hydra version (who will be referred to as Stevil from now on) -- decides he has to kill Bucky. (EDIT: At some point after the rescue, Bucky and Nat’s adventure on the Moon occurs. This can be confusing due to the inconsistent symbol on his arm.) Zemo, who is Stevil’s best buddy, and his Masters of Evil attack the Thunderbolts’ hideout and nearly beat Bucky to death. Kobik saves him by sending him back in time and trying to get him to join HYDRA -- this is when he learns the truth about Stevil, though he refuses to believe it (this is apparently a trend with him -- stay tuned). Upon refusing to join HYDRA, Kobik has massively destructive temper tantrum and is shattered and Bucky is carried away to be strapped to yet another rocket and, supposedly, blown to smithereens. In Thunderbolts #5 features a flashback to Bucky and Natasha’s Red Room days (seen above), and there’s another reference to Nat later on as well -- but I promise that’s not the only reason all of this is relevant, because right around the time Bucky is believed dead, Stevil makes his allegiances public, and thus begins....
Secret Empire
The part we all hate and no one wants to talk about but an unfortunate amount of SHIT occurred in. Let’s start from the beginning -- Bucky is, to the world, a dead man. Super dead. Murdered good. This has seriously fucked Nat up. At some point, she enters a casual relationship with Clint Barton -- who... quite obviously takes it more seriously than she does. But they both acknowledge the fact that Natasha has not been the same since Bucky died.
Tumblr media
So you can read that however you want (although, I personally don’t think very highly of Clint for getting involved with her while she’s grieving another man). Basically, Natasha wants to kill Stevil, Clint thinks she’s wrong, so she decks him and goes on the run. From there, she starts the new Red Room (which is all kinds of ridiculous since her previous run was all about ending the new Dark Room, but I digress) with a team that includes Miles Morales. Remember that prophecy? Well, he’s pretty convinced its true, but Natasha tries to save him from the fate of becoming a murderer -- and takes Stevil’s shield to the neck/jaw. It seemingly kills her and the rest of us spend the next several issues wondering whether or not she’s going to come back. But in the meantime, someone else comes back --
Tumblr media
Bucky, back from the dead he never was because his old pal Namor fished him out of the ocean because apparently Zemo is really bad at tying people to rockets. Bucky has been hiding out this whole time -- surprise! -- and he’s hatched a plan for stopping Stevil that involves, and I truly cannot make this shit up folks, 1) giving Stevil the last missing piece of the Cosmic Cube, 2) shrinking to ant-size and shooting into the Cube which is embedded in Stevil’s Hydra armor, 3) becoming a Mufasa-like entity inside the Cube and pulling the real Steve and Kobik out, and 4) watching the two Steve’s go at it. Once Stevil is defeated, Kobik fixes pretty much nothing. Everyone, including Natasha, is still dead.
Rather than attending her funeral, Bucky goes on a mission to Madripoor -- where he watches the funeral live on TV before following a lead in a super mysterious case. He then watches the assassination of a general who had come to power in the US along with HYDRA, looks up to the window the shot came from, and immediately monologues:
Tumblr media
Which leads us right into --
Tales of Suspense
Bucky teams up with Clint in an effort to discover who this mystery assassin is. In the time between Secret Empire's epilogue and the beginning of this story, Bucky has switched his point of view. He now believes Natasha is dead and someone is impersonating her. Clint thinks she is still alive. While chasing her down, they run into each other, and an uneasy alliance is formed.
The two work together following clues and leads. There are a couple pretty close calls, including a battle which leaves Yelena Belova dead in a subway and someone who looks an awful lot like Natasha speeding away on the back of a truck. Their clues lead them to the home of a Red Room operative, whose murder Bucky has been framed for. Finally, while following the lead of the Red Room, they run into Natasha herself, apparently alive.
Natasha traps them in a bunker where she takes Bucky's arm and Clint's bow and seemingly blows them up. It turns out that she wanted those things as proof she had killed them to gain the Red Room's trust -- but how did she survive Secret Empire? She didn't. This Natasha is a clone, engineered by the Red Room and given her consciousness by a psychic agent. The bear mutant Ursa Major, who you may remember from the Gulag, convinces the psychic to give Natasha all of her memories so that she may take the Red Room down from within.
Bucky and Clint escape from the bunker and track her down. A battle ensues. Clint is distraught by Natasha's violence. He and Bucky help her win the battle, but as they leave the building she goes back in just in time for it to explode. An officer finds a note for each of them on a tree nearby. Natasha tells Clint that though she cares deeply for him, he can't follow her where she is going and urges him to learn not to care for people who only ever hurt him. Bucky suggests that his note is the same, when in reality Natasha has asked for his help in a secret mission.
Tumblr media
Clint and Bucky go their separate ways. Meanwhile, Logan has left Natasha a present in Madripoor: the Space Stone.
Tumblr media
Natasha will return in Infinity Countdown: Black Widow in June 2018. She is also expected to appear with Bucky in Ta-Nehisi Coates's upcoming Captain America series beginning in July 2018.

10 Ways Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Might Deal With Peter Quill's Return To Earth
When Gamora suggested to Peter Quill that he might find some comfort in going back to Earth in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, he said he would never want to go back to Earth, because it’s where his mother died.
What a lot of MCU fans missed in the chaos of Avengers: Endgame’s final battle was that it marked the first time Quill had returned to Earth after being abducted by the Ravagers, getting raised by Yondu, and becoming the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. So, here are 10 Ways Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Might Deal With Peter Quill’s Return To Earth.
RELATED: 10 Best Used Songs In The Guardians Of The Galaxy Movies, Ranked
10 Doctor Strange told him where they were going before opening the portal
Tumblr media
There have been a lot of theories about how Doctor Strange managed the “portals” scene in Avengers: Endgame. After everyone was snapped back into existence by the Hulk, the Sorcerer Supreme might’ve transported himself to Wong and the other Masters of the Mystic Arts to tell them where to go and who to bring to the battle and where the battle was taking place.
But he was on Titan, with Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy, so there’s a strong possibility that he told them they’d be going back to Earth to join the fight. This would mean that Quill dealt with returning to Earth on Titan, and it could be explored in a flashback scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
9 Rocket will talk to him about it
Tumblr media
Over the course of Avengers: Endgame, we saw Rocket get well-acquainted with Earth. He’d never been before he triumphantly arrived on the Wakandan battleground with Thor and Groot in Infinity War, but after losing all of his family to the Snap, he stuck around Earth and joined the Avengers. So, he’s now well-versed in all things Earth, which would make him the prime candidate to talk to Quill about his long-awaited, emotional return to his home planet.
Whether this means talking about how movies have changed or how the extended Quill family is coping after the death of Meredith and the disappearance of Peter is another story. Five years is a long time, and Rocket is clearly more sensitive now, so perhaps he headed to Missouri to pay the Quills a visit and tell them about Peter’s life as Star-Lord.
8 He’ll find a documentary about his own disappearance
Tumblr media
As Peter Quill catches up with modern Earth media, he’ll naturally discover streaming services. As shown by Spider-Man: Far From Home’s movie selection on the plane to Europe, there have been a number of in-universe documentaries made about MCU characters.
After Quill was abducted by aliens on the eve of his mother’s death in Missouri in the 1980s, there’s a good chance that a documentary was made about his disappearance, interviewing his family and classmates. Maybe Quill will discover such a documentary and it’ll form an important part of his character development as he reconciles with the past and tries to move on.
7 He’ll restock his pop-culture collection
Tumblr media
Star-Lord’s prized Walkman was crushed by Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and as a replacement, Kraglin gave him a Zune he found on Earth. To be fair, whoever’s Zune it was had pretty good taste (we see the Guardians listening to the Spinners’ “Rubberband Man” on it in Infinity War), but it’s not the best way to consume music.
RELATED: 10 Star-Lord Quotes That Prove He's All Of Us
Clearly, Quill’s closest connection to Earth is its popular culture, like movies and music. While he’s on Earth, Quill might kit out the Benatar with a Blu-ray player and buy all the movies he grew up with, or pick up a new speaker and a record collection.
6 He’ll nostalgically revisit Missouri
Tumblr media
One of the funniest quotes in Infinity War saw Tony Stark asking Peter Quill if he was from Earth. Quill said, “I’m not from Earth, I’m from Missouri!” and Stark replied, “Yeah, that’s on Earth, d*****t!”
But there’s something deeper to this quote. Quill spoke about Missouri as if it was a separate planet from Earth. He doesn’t see Earth as the place he’s from; as far as he’s concerned, he’s just a born and bred Missourian. The final battle in Endgame brought him to upstate New York. His return to Earth won’t be complete until he nostalgically heads back to Missouri.
5 He’ll find it unrecognizable from the place he left
Tumblr media
Peter Quill left Earth in the 1980s and he hasn’t been back since. The Earth that he returned to wasn’t even 2019’s Earth – it was 2023’s Earth. And thanks to Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and other technological innovators, that version of Earth is even more different from the Earth of the ‘80s than the one we live in today in real life. Quill will find Earth unrecognizable from the Earth he left.
There’s actually a great opportunity for some culture-clash, man-out-of-his-time comedy here. Quill might look for a RadioShack to buy a new Walkman or a Blockbuster to rent the greatest movie of all time, Footloose, and find that nothing is the same as how he left it.
4 It won’t feel like home to him anymore
Tumblr media
The way Peter Quill remembers Earth, David Hasselhoff was a big TV star and Footloose was a popular movie and a Walkman was the most advanced way to listen to music. So, when he returns to Earth, it won’t really feel like home anymore.
It’s like when you move away from your hometown and come back a few years later to find that it just doesn’t feel the same anymore, except multiplied by a thousand because it’s a whole planet and not just a town. He might wonder what the big deal about returning to Earth was, because it wasn’t so bad.
3 He’ll reunite with his grandfather
Tumblr media
In the opening scene of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, right before Quill is abducted by the Ravagers, his grandfather approaches him in the hospital and says, “Peter, your mama wants to speak with you.” He encourages him to take his mom’s gift and have a few final moments with her, but Quill pushes past him and runs away.
RELATED: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3: 5 Ways Thor Could Make It Better (& 5 Ways He Could Hold It Back)
As long as he’s back on Earth, Quill should reunite with his grandfather. His grandfather would be a lot older now, but it would be an important and poignant moment for his character development and provide some much-needed closure on the open-ended prologue of the first Guardians film.
2 He’ll connect with the light within Earth
Tumblr media
Peter Quill might have lost the powers that came along with his Celestial DNA when he killed his Celestial father to prevent his genocidal plan from coming to fruition, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still half-Celestial and unable to connect with the “light” that he draws his power from. Ego drew his “light” from his own planet, and as a half-human, half-Celestial being, it would make sense if Quill draws his “light” from Earth.
In fact, being back on Earth and getting in touch with that “light” might bring his Celestial powers back – and make him able to bring back Gamora with an Infinity Stone.
1 He’ll visit his mother’s grave
Tumblr media
Quill said he didn’t want to return to Earth because it was where his mother died. But maybe a more accurate version of this is that it was where he left his mother’s deathbed. He couldn’t bear to take her hand and accept her fate, and as a result, he missed her death, her funeral, and a proper mourning period.
So, when he returns to Earth, he should get some closure by visiting his mother’s grave. Maybe this will be a flashback to right before Tony Stark’s funeral, which will add a sense of poignancy to the look of grief on his face at the service – in his mind, he’s attending the Earth funeral he never got to attend.

how to write a story
remember that story is where character meets change
stories are just strings of choices in a limited period of time — decide the beginning and the ending, get a visual for the way they fly or fall to it, and then do random fun stuff that doesn’t go against the objective
grab some friends
optional
if you do it’s a collaborative work — they can design their own characters, kingdoms, &c. (if you’re doing a film, these are your actors)
if you don’t, it’s all you, baby
fill out profile sheets
characters
settings
artifacts
these can be found online amongst other places... they’re really just questionnaires and finding cute pics — like you can make mood boards (collages — can print and glue to paper or screenshot pics from online and use befunky the app) of people you want the character to look like, places you’ve been that you’d want to see a kingdom look like, &c.
tape them on the wall into maps and take photos (so you have the maps on your phone for reference)
characters map: all the relationships
settings map: ... map
artifacts map: collections (which are presumably more important when collected than when not)
PLOT is made of relationships (some people like each other and some don’t), maps (some countries like each other and some don’t), and collections (ex. all the infinity stones go together and that means we’ve got to collect them)
host an r.p.g.
there are tons of rpgs online to choose from if you like
but you can also play it breezy
this can be super easy you just use some dice and a deck of cards — it’s like the deluxe version of war except everyone has one card and they’re playing against you
everyone draws a card — their number is how cool they are (their combined statistics ((intelligence, athleticism...)) — how well their character handles situations)
when they go against other cards (you’ll draw from the top of the deck it’s totally random), you both will roll dice and both people add their card number to their roll. whoever rolls higher + bonus wins that encounter
i also do a thing where i assign types of social situations to each number on the dice... 1 is diplomacy, 2 is combat, &c. the character rolls before you draw to see what they’re trying to do, and then flip a coin to see if they’re trying to win or withdraw.
you can assign a different kingdom or organization for every card suit so you know what sort of a person they’re encountering / where we are at that moment
you can also play the whole game with profile sheets as cards... person encounters artifact, person encounters villain, &c.
for best results, shuffle the deck in between every turn so the side characters have a chance at showing up multiple times
tell a friend / audio recorder everything that happened
the more engaged you are about the shenanigans, the more immersive the narration will be
comedy comes from being animated — stand up when talking
drama comes from being flamboyant — swish your hand around
action comes from being blunt — be just so done with this
transcribe
literally just write down everything you said
now look at it
congratulations you have a story
mix up as desired
change when things happen, what was said, &c.
your intent is wish fulfillment, probably — fiction is built on escapism. make it sexy, make it fun
the most important person you can please right now is you — if you’re not having emotional reactions reading the thing (smiling, getting wistful, &c.), it’ll feel flat. don’t feel flat.
basically, like it. if you don’t like it, fix it.
format the thing
make it look like this or whichever official format you like (book, screenplay...):
CHARACTER: (action) dialogue
{scene description or directing note}
everything else can go in plain text: explanations of what’s going on or let’s-step-aside for backstory, or what-have-you
don’t stress yourself out, the point is that it’s readable

If you get a chance to talk about it, I'd love to hear what are your favourite arcs in 616. I know one of them is the drinking arc for Tony, because you've mentioned it before. What other arcs are good for a Steve or a Tony fan to read (regardless of shipping)? Obviously Civil War is popular, but other than that?
What a great question! There are a lot of Steve and Tony comics I have really enjoyed reading! I would just like to point out that earlier today I was watching some YouTube videos on the worst comics for Cap and IM and several of these are on there, but, whatever. I make no apologies for my taste in comics. In no particular order, here are some things I like that aren’t set during or after Civil War:
Avengers/Cap/IM v3: Specifically, Waid’s run on Cap (which actually begins at the end of v1) and Busiek’s run on Avengers and Iron Man MINUS the part where Steve is inexplicably against affirmative action because what the fuck. The Avengers run (other than the terrible affirmative action plot) is just a really fun nostalgia-laden romp where heroes are heroes and everyone likes each other; it doesn’t have much Steve and Tony together specifically but it is generally good times. Busiek’s IM run is really great and likewise features Tony being unashamedly a good guy, the way he almost never is anymore, and if you like Carol, this is where her drinking arc comes into play. (Later IM v3 also includes such wonders as Tiberius Stone and the Sentient Armor.) And if you read Waid’s run, you can see Steve be exiled from the United States and go to London and eat a Sad Hamburger. Also there’s a great Skrull arc, and if your preferred flavor of Steve & Sharon is We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together, this will be good for you. They are good friends! They kick ass together! They are continually remembering why they shouldn’t date!
Avengers v4: I didn’t read this for so long because I was kind of Bendis’d out after reading New Avengers +  Civil War + Mighty Avengers + all the events up through Siege, and I finally read it a few months ago and found that it was surprisingly fun. Steve and Tony bicker over Infinity Gems, but my favorite part is actually the arc where they find out Jan is alive and the original team gets back together to rescue her (she kisses them all when they find her and it’s so sweet) and then they fight a centaur in plate armor because WHY NOT.
Avengers v5/New Avengers v3: I still don’t think he stuck the landing, but I really like Hickmanvengers.
Iron Man: Fatal Frontier: Probably my most favorite (relatively-)recent Iron Man comic. Please note that it is TOTAL CRACK. Tony befriends a sad Communist robot, becomes governor of the moon, and defeats a bad guy with hurt/comfort fanfic.
Doomquest and its sequels: Tony and Doom go to Camelot and it is amazing. Also Tony fights a demon version of his father in hell and it is surprisingly moving. This was recced to me as being great for Doom/Tony and I was reading along and not understanding why anyone would say that but then I got to the part in Legacy of Doom where Doom penetrates Tony with Excalibur, and... yeah. Um.
Capwolf: You can’t not read Capwolf. Come on. Captain America is a werewolf. If you don’t like this, WHY ARE YOU EVEN READING COMICS. I mean, maybe you don’t like werewolves. I guess that’s fair.
That arc where Steve becomes a comic book artist. He gets to draw Captain America! How can you not love that?
Iron Age: Tony time-travels through his own past, cries naked in the rain in an alley because no one loves him and the world is going to be destroyed, and also hits on his past self. This is definitely Peak Tony.
Iron Man: Legacy: Two arcs with a lot of nice backstory for Tony -- one about a younger Tony around the time of his parents’ death, one during the second drinking arc.
One Night in Madripoor: Steve and Tony banter and fight ROBOT BEES.
Also, if you can find it, there’s a trade called “Iron Man/Captain America” that collects a lot of pre-Civil War issues of Steve and Tony together, and as far as I know it’s the only place the Tales of Suspense one-shot (the famed “azure eyes” issue) was ever collected.
I seem to have read more Iron Man than Cap. I should fix that sometime.

letter from Rio
Rio de Janeiro, August 2019
Dear you,
I listened to a podcast yesterday with Kyla Schuller that helped me rethink the term “impression” in ways that feel super rich and will take their time to unfold. There isn’t space here to do justice to her work but let’s say she works carefully into biopolitics and the relation between constructions of sexual and racial difference. So, I’m calling these moments below impressions as I send them to you, but doing so mindfully, aware of their complexity and ongoing unfolding-ness in “my” body/the collective body, and consciously, aware of how all my words carry colonial matter.
A protest against educational cuts. The schoolteacher activist shouts into the camera: “A sea of people, mountains of people.” Clapping chants, samba bands, small children in school uniforms. A man holds aloft a copy of Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Afterwards lesbian couples are kissing in the metro like at the protest about the investigation into the murder of Marielle Franco.
Colonisation, undigested. Caipirinha: drink; diminutive version of a word for country people; of Tupi origin meaning cutter of the forest. Popcorn baths and macerated herbs and bathing in the dawn with them to draw different energies towards you. Pesticides. Palestinian sweet limes are Persian lemons, green-coloured oranges are pear oranges, orange-coloured limes are Galician lemons, pomelos are thick skins and sharp centers. The global history of citrus cultivation; ancient varieties and colonial transpositions. Plate bananas, water bananas, bread bananas, earth bananas, honey bananas. High protein wild leaves of an invasive species called pray for us. Round root vegetables that clean the blood of fever. Deep fried pastries: wee salties.
Knowing all the lyrics to multiple songs. The crowd sings with the musicians of the roda de samba who sit round a table playing. Dancing, we complete the circle. A singer whose characters have mouths stuffed full of kisses and food and death; a song about racist fear projected onto hair. Elderly and teenage couples dancing in the shade of closed museums. “Daily singing helps you live longer”, she says, then holds my hands on her throat to help me understand where the vibrations should be coming from.
Fences and gates, foam on the bay. Photographs of electricity cable spaghetti in a favela used to illustrate an English-language art magazine article about an artist from the same favela; white gaze ‘realness’. Houses built ‘illegally’ on an ex-coffee plantation where first slaves then exploited wage labourers worked. Sewage infrastructure, or not; rooftop water tanks.
Gentrification is white supremacy. The colours of the samba school who won the carnival with a song honouring Afro-Brazilian women repeated in an artwork commenting on arts-led gentrification on the roof of a soon-to-close arts-led-gentrification-project museum. Houses built ‘illegally’ on a publicly owned hill when black workers were displaced to make room for grand boulevards; buildings were burned to force the displacement. More recently, the favela’s main square was destroyed for a world cup funicular that is indefinitely closed.
Violence, continuing. More people forcibly brought from Africa were disembarked here than at any other port in the Americas. The bodies of 150,000 people who died following the horrific journey are buried in a site the size of a house. The owners, on finding the remains while doing repairs, turned their home into a memorial and research center. The quays where millions of people were unloaded, held in fattening houses, and sold were later covered over for a royal parade. A grant from another country, with its own poor record of redressing the ongoing injustices rooted in slavery, paid for a sign marking an area of these recently uncovered quay stones. Nearby, the museum of tomorrow overlooks this past. The local quilombo community are still fighting for legal land rights.
Resistance. Different words, movement, nuance, and sensitivity for talking about race go with greater capacity for owning intersectional privileges. Ongoing generous conversations about trauma and violence and healing. A multilingual message thread where we’re all using different gender-neutral pronouns. The discussion where an academic talks about being security checked as she arrived tonight at this, her own workplace, and ex-students describe going to the bathroom together to protect themselves from institutional racism, and all talk of joy in collectivity and the black feminists who made roots and paths and ground that support the generations here. People talk matter-of-factly about being involved in struggles that will take multiple generations to work through. Intergenerational conversations with activists where complexity is understood and relations among words and bodies are attended to with care and multiple forms of deep intelligence. Precise verbs in everyday speech. Art performances of which the audience forms part; I am held, have my feet washed, share spoons. All these events addressing our inseparability through experiences that acknowledge the infinity of differences in the room.
Estou aprendendo... People and habits from this city have a name that means white man’s house in Tupi. Shining northern-European white as I am, the language I have isn’t enough, because, like all white northern Europeans I have so much to unlearn and relearn in addressing the ongoing colonial matrix. In Brazilian Portuguese continuous tenses hold multiple narratives. My prepositions are lacking so things connect in uncertain ways. One additional letter changes a word from touch to exchange.
The errors in this text live in “my” body. Everything else lives in the collective body. This text is written with the material support of the Mondriaan Fonds residency structure and the relational support of all at Capacete.
Abraços,
Katherine

Clare Waight Keller’s Most Memorable Moments For Givenchy
Back in early 2000s I used to work at Pringle of Scotland when Clare Waight Keller was the creative director, so I have followed her journey from the office she used to design the collections from in Sloane Street, London, to Paris for Chloe and Givenchy.
I was shocked to learn that the Clare – the first woman to be the Artistic Director of this legendary Givenchy Maison –  was stepping back from her position as artistic director.
Mostly because she made me fall in love with Givenchy again.  I did like Givenchy under Riccardo Tisci, but I love how Clare brought the elegance back to the fashion house.
Her occasional ode to Hubert de Givenchy archives received rapturous applause.
Rosamund Pike, Julianne Moore and Rooney Mara proved to be the perfect brand ambassadors.   I just wish Angelina Jolie had worn more of the brand.
So with Clare’s gracious exit, here is a look back at my favourite red carpet looks from Clare’s reign at Givenchy, which started back in October 2017, when she presented her first Spring 2018 collection.
Rosamund Pike In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘A Private War’ London Film Festival Premiere
I often like to do these list in date order, but I wanted to start with my favourite Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy Haute Couture look, and that was presented by Rosamund Pike.  The class, elegance, sex appeal and modernity still give me goosebumps two years on.
If ‘The Matrix 4’ was casting a female lead. Rosamund would get the part in this outfit
Rosie Huntington Whiteley In Givenchy Haute Couture – The Fashion Awards 2018
Speaking of goosebumps.  Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s  Haute Couture moment at The Fashion Awards 2018 runs a close second.   Yep.  It’s another cape. But they always bring so much drama to a red carpet look.
Cate Blanchett In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘Blackkklansman’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere
There are a lot of Cate Blanchett in Givenchy moments I could’ve listed.
The 2018 British Academy Britannia Awards is one of them, but the ‘Blackkklansman’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere was my ultimate favourite, as the Australian actress looked so statuesque in her proud moment of being jury president, and Queen of Cannes Film Festival 2018.
Rachel Weisz In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2019 Oscars
As we all know Rachel Weisz’s style is pretty straight-laced, so when she hit the red carpet at the 2019 Oscars wearing this red Haute Couture hybrid between a superhero costume and a sophisticated gown, we were all mesmerized.
Lady Gaga In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘A Star Is Born’ LA Premiere
You might not have expected this one, but it was one of my many highlights from Lady Gaga’s promo tour for ‘A Star is Born’.   If only she had kept this same energy for her awards season run.
Emma Stone In Givenchy – Netflix Original Series ‘Maniac’ New York Premiere
We don’t get enough of Emma Stone in Givenchy.  But this was a shining example of why she should wear the brand more often.
Rihanna In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2019 Diamond Ball
It was between her Ocean’s 8 world premiere look, her 2020 NAACP Image Awards look, and this stunning creation from the 2019 Diamond Ball.
Ruffles would usually win in most situations, but this silhouette, and the fit on Rihanna still makes me swoon.
Jordan Roth In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2019 Tony Awards
It would’ve been a crime had I not included this iconic moment from producer Jordan Roth in this mixed media, joyous outing.
Leather, ruffles, floral appliqués?
YES, yes, yes.
Zendaya Coleman In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2019 InStyle Awards
We’ve had butterflies. Afro wigs, and plenty of feathers, but Zendaya let elegance stand at the forefront in this Haute Couture creation.
Zhang Ziyi In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘La Belle Epoque’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere
Yes, my thirsty for all thing shiny draws me to this elevated princess gown, but I stayed for the classic/modern cross-over, and Zhang’s flawless beauty.
Diane Kruger In Givenchy Haute Couture  – ‘The Operative’ Berlinale Film Festival Premiere
There was lots to admire about this Givenchy Haute Couture look.  So many elements that only someone of Diane’s stature could deliver with such elegance.
Julianne Moore In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘Rocketman’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere
Like Cate Blanchett, Julianne could’ve had a lot of inclusions in this list, (her red Haute Couture look from the ‘Everybody Knows’ Cannes Film Festival screening being one of them, but this was the most unexpected in terms of style and delivery.
Mena Massoud In Givenchy -‘Aladdin’ Paris Screening
Sharp and elegant.  Who doesn’t love a Disney moment with a twist?
Michael B Jordan In Givenchy – Just Mercy’ Toronto Film Festival Premiere
The statement jacket/coat, was definitely a hit with sharply dressed men in Givenchy on the red carpet.  And Michael B Jordan proved that sometimes it’s all one needs to stand out.
Chadwick Boseman In Givenchy – ‘Black Panther’ London Premiere
I couldn’t do any Givenchy menswear tribute post without shouting out the man who made the Givenchy statement jacket/coat so very appealing.
Where Chadwick leads, others follow.
Of course this wasn’t his only memorable Givenchy outing.  His 2018 and 2019 Oscars looks deserve honorable mentions.
Ezra Miller In Givenchy Haute Couture – ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald’ London Premiere
The actor appeared to be paying homage to ‘Harry Potter’s’ Hedwig.  A Haute Couture version of course.
It may have been too costumey for some. But I’m sure JK Rowling approved.
Lily Collins In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2018 Met Gala
Met Galas can often lead to disappointment when celebrities don’t stick to the theme.
Lily Collins’ Givenchy Haute Couture look perfectly embodied the ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination’ dress code back in 2018.
This was one of her better outings in Givenchy.  As her 2019 BAFTAs look was met with a lukewarm reception.
Nicole Kidman In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2018 Golden Globe Awards
One word.  Sensational.  This is the type of movie star glamour I craaaavee.
Zoe Saldana In Givenchy – ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ LA Premiere
This list would not be completed without one Zoe Saldana look.  The two I had in mind funnily enough were both from ‘Avenger’ premiere’s.
The ‘Avengers: Endgame’ LA Premiere, and the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ LA Premiere.
The latter stood out as more of a classic Zoe Saldana look, plus the necklace on the ‘Endgame’ dress threw me off a little.
Hunter Schafer In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party
This is easily my favourite Givenchy Haute Couture look of 2020.  I hope we get to some more before the year ends.
Rooney Mara In Givenchy Haute Couture – 2018 Met Gala
Now Rooney Mara had more Givenchy moments than most (or tied with Rosamund Pike), but she was the hardest person for me to narrow down one look.
I feel like I selected this 2018 Met Gala look because it didn’t have that déjà vu feel that the majority of her all black and all white looks conjured up.
The runner up will be her 2020 BAFTA gown. But perhaps that because it’s the most recent.
Meghan Markle Weds Prince Harry In Givenchy
I wouldn’t class this as one of my faovurites, but Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s wedding dress was worthy of an inclusion as it was an iconic fashion moment for the wearer, designer and brand.

For Freaks and Geeks: The Ultimate LA Museum Crawl
Packed with exhibits on 3D art, iconic sculptures, technological wonders and even weed, the Los angeles Museum Trail is as wonderful as it is whacky.

A house atop a hill, close to the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, looks like just another secluded, luxurious bungalow. But step inside, and it reveals itself to be the super quirky Hollywood Sculpture Garden, an exhibition space filled with 3D paintings, metallic sculptures, and paint-splattered ties and jeans. As Angelenos would say, “It’s such an LA thing.”
What defines this culturally rich city, however, is open to interpretation by its hundreds of cultural spaces. There are the iconic institutions that are worth a trip in their own right: the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Broad Museum, the Getty Center, and Griffith Observatory. Then there are temporary exhibitions, eclectic personal collections and historic homes, exploring everything from death to disgusting food.
Just this year, there have been exhibitions dedicated to fashion designer Rudi Gernreich, and Louis Vuitton, the latter included early 20th-century special-order trunks, Art Deco perfume bottles, and window displays. August saw the launch of Weedmaps Museum of Weed, which explored the history of marijuana through interactive exhibits, art installations, and historical artefacts. If you, too, love museums, there are a host of options to choose from here. We’ve picked a mix of mainstream and quirky places to visit for a well-rounded trip.
  A Good Day to Die
A bright neon sun, visible even in sunlight, appears like a warning outside the Museum of Death on Hollywood Boulevard. It says “die” and below that “death is everywhere,” and drives home the fact with a few skulls, a skeleton and a hangman’s noose. The museum began as a hobby for JD Healy and Catherine Shultz, who wrote letters to serial killers, and exhibited these and related artwork once a year. Now, it covers different aspects of death such as hangings, suicides, serials killers, famous assassinations, funeral services, cannibalism, and taxidermy, and it requires some time. Also handy is an empty stomach and steely resolve when viewing the severed head of French serial killer Henri Landru, shrivelled organs, gory pictures of hangings (a postcard set), crime scene photos and stuffed pets. Small televisions screen documentaries related to death, murder and misery. Museum of Death is open Sunday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Admission $17/Rs1,200.
One of LA’s most popular landmarks is Chris Burden’s Urban Light installation at LACMA (top-left); Robby Gordon’s Hollywood Sculpture Garden (right) has life-like installations and sculptures; Velveteria Museum (bottom-left) exhibits paintings with black velvet as their base. Art with a View
The Hollywood Sculpture Garden in the Hollywood Hills is a less dreary experience. Robby Gordon, a former veterinarian, showcases his collection of art on the walls and ceilings, in passages and in the bathroom. In the garden, a rocky path leads to colourful bulldogs, metal sculptures which look like they’re straight out of Transformers, intertwined figures, yarn art, colourful mannequins and more. Visits are by appointment only, and Gordon enjoys taking people to his studio, handing out glasses to view 3D paintings, and showing off the view of downtown LA. All of the artwork is for sale. Hollywood Sculpture Garden is open by appointment; email [email protected].
  Elvis in Velvet
In Chinatown, collectors Caren Anderson and Carl Baldwin exhibit a fraction of their 3,000 velvet paintings at the Velveteria Museum. Velvet paintings are categorised as those in which velvet (usually black in colour) is used as a support or base. Fuchsia curtains part to reveal 400 velvet paintings from different styles and eras, some vintage and some modern. Elvis hangs out with Jesus and Miley Cyrus, a vintage collection of naked women lie in the adult’s-only backroom, and a black-lit room reveals a wonderland of bright clowns, the devil, naked women, and painted unicorns. Velveteria Museum is open Wednesday–Monday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Admission $10/Rs700.

Technology and History
One of the city’s strangest museums, The Museum of Jurassic Technology, has a name as vague as its exhibits. Founder David Wilson’s collection of curiosities is difficult to pinpoint. The oddities on display have some historical significance even if they are completely disconnected from each other. A maze of dimly lit corridors leads to different rooms and exhibits sealed behind wood and glass. There are letters to the astronomers at Mt. Wilson Observatory, the string game cat’s cradle and its collectors, micro-mosaics, collections from LA trailer parks, and models of staircases.
Meanwhile, at the Borzoi Kabinet Theater, you have to wear 3D glasses to view the rotating program of films. Hidden away is the Tula Tea Room, a reconstruction of the study of Tsar Nicolas II from the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. This opens up to a green courtyard where a few birds fly about, and the two resident dogs warily eye visitors from their perches. It’s the perfect spot to sit, sip complimentary Georgian black tea, and reflect on the canines of the Soviet space program, beautifully immortalised in oil paints at the museum’s gallery. Museum of Jurassic Technology is open Thursday, 2 p.m.–8 p.m.; Friday–Sunday, noon – 6 p.m. Admission $10/Rs700.
  The Museum as Art
Philanthropist J. Paul Getty’s Getty Center is a piece of architectural art in itself. Modern white buildings lead out to a landscaped garden, offering peace and great views. Architect Richard Meir designed the campus in a way that allows for ample natural light, which reflects off the stone walls. The art is from the medieval era, spanning European and American history. Their current displays include an in-depth look at a 19th-century French chandelier that resembles a hot-air balloon, 18th century pastel portraits, and a selection of historic cameras, including the first mass-market digital camera. Getty Center is open Tuesday–Friday, 10 a.m.– 5.30 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Admission is free.

Downtown LA
The Broad houses one of the world’s most prominent collections of postwar and contemporary art. There’s Jeff Koons’ giant balloon animals, Andy Warhol’s “Campbell’s Soup Can,” and a corner for Roy Lichtenstein’s pop-art. The Downtown LA (DTLA) icon is a sensory overload, the peak of which is a precious 30 seconds inside the Yayoi Kusama’s magical “Infinity Mirrored Room.” The Broad is surrounded by evidence of DTLA’s transition into the city’s artistic hub: the walls of former industrial buildings sport commissioned murals and graffiti. Once dilapidated spaces now house art galleries, wineries, breweries, and restaurants. Hauser & Wirth, for example, is an arts centre with a restaurant, chicken coop, garden and bookstore, all in a former flour mill. The gallery hosts screenings, family activities, and a rotating collection of exhibitions. Nearby, the non-profit Art Share LA offers residencies and support to artists. The Broad is open Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; and Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Admission is free, but special exhibits are $18/Rs1,300. Hauser & Wirth is open Tuesday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Admission is free.
  Black Pride
Supporting artists is the guiding philosophy of the Underground Museum, possibly LA’s most understated such space. Run by a black art collective, the Underground includes a gallery, an intimate bookshop, a theatre, a meeting space, a yoga studio, and an organic market. The focus is on black excellence, and it’s no surprise that past visitors include Beyoncé and Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors. It has also hosted the mobile Free Black Women’s Library, where people read and swap books. It may be low-key, but the Underground is LA too: an open space that informs and educates, even as it entertains. Underground Museum is open Wednesday–Sunday, noon–7 p.m. Admission is free.
