Wait wait I just scrolled by a mutual that reblogged your Godseeker-Comic. Is that an AU? Is there more of this? This is so interesting! I have never seen Godseeker turning to be a part of Void. Mostly just always getting killed by it.
I hope you're doing more with this concept in one way or another because this is a really interesting idea!
ouuu thank you 🥺❤️ its not really an au, its more like my interpretation of a continuation to the embrace the void ending!! :D I think most people are not aware that she canonically doesnt die, and take the ending at face value.... its kind of hard to explain for me since even i am not 100% sure what exactly happens lol but i like to think that theyre perpetually linked or fused together in some weird way. and i feel that this result is pretty intentional from both sides.
Godseeker mentions that they seek gods to "clutch at their greatness and immortality", which i assume that with 'clutch' she means that these traits would be shared with the Godseekers through the "Godly focus" thing. And the knight, besides the fact that it proved its strenght against the local strongest beings, it posesses (via the Void Heart) the void under its will, which is literally said to be an "eternal" force that "denies time", ie immortal.
and this union of sorts would be beneficial for the knight as well, as it can go into Holy Beast mode at just about anytime it wants, which is a really awesome powerup if u ask me. That and also (in my headcanon) it does like her. very much :-)

Idea for something I might write later: A meetup of royals(and other government officials) who are responsible in some way for an Avatar, as a way of strengthening ties between their universes. Namely:
King Dedede, who ends up as a sort of unofficial leader of the group due to his experience wrangling the Star Allies.
Princess Peach, who isn't entirely certain she should have a place here considering the issues she's working through and the possibility of it implying a power imbalance between her and Mario when their relationship is already pretty rocky.
Queen Melody, so this would obviously be after Watered Down Dreams. she's rather excited to meet people from other worlds outside of a crisis.
King Mickey. I don't really have much to say about him admittedly.
Archangel Flonne, who is acting as a representative of both Celestia (Disgaea's version of heaven), which she's qualified to do as an Archangel, and the Netherworld (Disgaea's version of hell, which there are many of for some reason) that Laharl is Overlord of, which she's qualified to do as one of Laharl's most trusted vassals and his girlfriend. Laharl's not joining the meetup himself because he's self-aware enough to know he's not the best at diplomacy.
Avatar Arle's version of Miss Accord. She is not royalty. She is not part of the Government. She is, in fact, a teacher. At a school that Arle doesn't even go to. She's here anyway.
Mayor Scuttlebutt, unfortunately.
And Cynthia. It would've been Lance instead since Ash lives in Kanto, but he's closer with Cynthia, and she only has one region to handle instead of two so she had more time to come over.

Bastards & Arms, Girls and Swords (& vice versa)
“The Lannisters are proud,” Jon observed. “You’d think the royal sigil would be sufficient, but no. He makes his mother’s House equal in honor to the king’s.”
“The woman is important too!” Arya protested.
Jon chuckled. “Perhaps you should do the same thing, little sister. Wed Tully to Stark in your arms.”
“A wolf with a fish in its mouth?” It made her laugh. “That would look silly. Besides, if a girl can’t fight, why should she have a coat of arms?”
Jon shrugged. “Girls get the arms but not the swords. Bastards get the swords but not the arms. I did not make the rules, little sister.”
- Arya I, AGOT
This is a very iconic passage as far as contextualizing the ways in which Jon and Arya are outsiders in the established feudal society, all the while being insiders in some way. Jon’s quote (which establishes how the rules be) is the most recognizable part of this conversation due to what comes later (the gifting of Needle) but Arya’s preceding question is what jumped out to me as I was doing a reread of this chapter. This is mostly because it seems to get to the matter of feudal legitimacy.
Because Arya’s question had me thinking: beyond having marital ability, does possession of a sword establish legitimacy in the feudal system? Obviously the possession of arms does equate to legitimacy since one would get them by being born to a recognized legal union. But what does it mean to have one over the other? And what does it mean to have both? Can a person only be half legitimate? And where would that even matter?
As I was thinking about this, I immediately thought of Daemon Blackfyre, who was one of Aegon IV’s legitimized bastards. If memory serves me right, part of Daemon’s claim to kingship was that he held Aegon the Conqueror’s sword, Blackfyre (hence his dynastic name). His nickname was even “The King Who Bore the Sword” and many were inclined to follow him since his possession of the legendary sword seemed to signify kingship; and by passing the sword down to him, Aegon IV officially acknowledged him as his son. But the sword alone wasn’t legitimizing. That happened later when his father legitimized him and his other half siblings on his deathbed. After that, Daemon had both the sword and the arms and he could push his claim for the throne. So if we go back to Jon and Arya’s conversation, Daemon the bastard managed to get the two keys of legitimization (insofar as kingship goes): the sword and the arms.
Now, let’s go back to Jon and Arya. At this point in the story, Arya has the arms which were passed down to her by her father. She doesn’t have the sword here but a few chapters later (in Jon II) she is gifted Needle - her very own sword which specifically made for her. Over time, this sword becomes an integral part of her development and her identity. It’s interesting that Arya gets the arms from her father and the sword from her brother - almost like legitimacy is being passed down patrilineally; even more interesting when you consider that GRRM originally intended for Jon to be her husband.
Jon, on the other hand, arguably has neither. As a bastard, he has no right to any arms. And though he has the martial ability, he does not have the sword; the family sword, Ice, was going to go to his half-brother who was the heir. Even if Jon managed to get a sword, it probably would be inconsequential; meaning that it would not be as legendary as Ice is. But things change as the story progresses. Several chapters later, he is given his very own sword (which he earned on his own merit) when he is gifted Longclaw by Lord Commander Mormont. Jon thinks that this act is like Mormont recognizing him as a son; he is giving Jon his son’s sword. Then two books later, Jon gets the arms when he is legitimized by Robb’s royal decree; though one has to wonder if GRRM initially intended for Arya to be the one to give him the arms as he gave her the sword. Still, legitimacy passed down patrilineally for Jon as it did for Arya. It’s even flipped: one gets the arms from a father and the sword from a brother, while the other gets the arms from a brother and a sword from a (surrogate) father. Both go through situations where they have to assume some sort of leadership (though Jon’s is far more extensive than Arya’s). However, these situations of leadership (big or small) come not because they were passed down as demanded by feudal succession, but because they were earned.
So now we have to wonder, what does this mean for Jon’s and Arya’s futures given that they hold both signs of legitimacy (as it might relate to kingship if we consider the Daemon Blackfyre example)? They both have the sword and the arms. In addition to that, Jon has a plethora of king foreshadowing and symbolism in the text, despite being a bastard. And he is quite skilled as a warrior. Arya may not have Jon’s martial ability, but she has learned some that is relevant to her strengths as a young girl (so she’s not totally hopeless). She also has some queen foreshadowing in the books; her wolf is even named after a warrior queen and she claims to assume a shortened version of Nymeria in ACOK.
Could they mirror Daemon Blackfyre, who was an outsider who came to be recognized as king? It’s hard to tell what will happen given that we still have two books left, but it’s just some food for thought. In any case, this chapter and Jon II (where Arya got the sword) could serve as seeding for what’s in store for Jon’s and Arya’s ultimate journeys.

I got a wholesome one-shot Bowuigi prompt for y'all lovely people: Imagine Luigi (and occasionally Bowser) asking each other questions as a way to get to know each other better, but the catch is while they're doing this, Bowser is annoyed and embarrassed throughout this one-shot because he's wearing Peach's wig while Luigi is braiding the wig that's on Bowser's head.

could we get a hint for which fic we’re getting an update for tmrw 🤭
Okay so, tomorrow’s fic update is going to be SUCH A SURPRISE that even *I’m* going to be surprised by which one it is 😂 and by that I mean I haven’t actually decided which fic I’m going to update next because I’ve been shockingly productive and have MULTIPLE in nearly post ready condition.
(Okay, so I actually am pretty sure I know which one I’m going to update - it’s the one where we left poor Fictional!Matty in not great condition 👀 I just hope no one is disappointed by the update and I’m going to be excited to hear your thoughts!!!)
Thank you for like caring about my little Tuesday updates and being lovely enough to send me this ask 🥰 I hope you enjoy the update even if it’s not the one you were hoping for!! (Which… which one are you hoping for?) I hope your day is going well, and that you have a wonderful week!
❤️Ally

I think I’m gonna kinda revamp and rewrite Meallana as a character. It’s not going to be anything dramatic, but I created her when I just first started playing the elder scrolls, and she was kind of a fun parody self insert to me until she became her own character entirely. If anyone has cool ideas or recommendations to things I should add or change, let me know!!

Hello! May I enquire after an X files episode? Like. Least scary/most fun. The tribbles episode of you will. If it exists? (There’s always one). I’m hoping to fall in love with characters in a lower stress mode for myself so then I will follow them into the pit of despair or sit in the creepy haunted mansion with them. Alternatively what is your absolute favorite?
oh!!! Magpie dearest!!! ok I'm going to give several answers, actually. TXF has a solid break-up of Mytharc episodes (overarching series plotline), Monster Of The Week Episodes (can range from light and fluffy to deep dives into the darkest recesses of the characters), and deliberately comedic episodes, so there's quite a lot of variety to choose from
I'd say that if you want a "Tribbles episode," I think Humbug (s2e20, this is Gurt's favorite comedy episode) or War of the Coprophages (s3e12, MY favorite, and one of my top 10 episodes overall) would be a good one. neither requires a lot of context for plot or characters, as they're intentionally written as a sort of break from the overall plot and emotional impact of the season. they're both very chill episodes, low-stress high-fun — however if you have a squick for bugs, War of the Coprophages may not be the best one for you lol. the premise is that people in a small town believe that cockroaches are attacking and killing them, and there's a couple scenes where that's exactly what it looks like, so fair warning. (WotC also has one of the best Mulder-Scully dynamics there is, because they just seem incredibly domestic and married the entire time)
however, if I had to pitch the series to you in one episode — apart from the Pilot, of course — it would be s5e18, The Pine Bluff Variant. it is a pretty tense episode, with undercover operations and some pretty dark imagery (the props department on TXF always loves to go full ham on icky things, but since it was the 90s it does seem a tad campy tbh), but it really encapsulates what the show is and who the characters are so perfectly in one episode. it's also one of the few episodes that doesn't deal with any kind of extraterrestrial or paranormal subjects, just simple human nature — to boil it down to its basis, it is an episode wholly about Good vs. Evil and what each of those things brings about. I've written a lot about it because it's both my favorite episode and the one that I think sums up the entirety of the show best.
and if you decide you want to actually start watching it, but not like... fully commit, the first four episodes of season 1 (Pilot, Deep Throat, Squeeze, and Conduit) are the true essentials and really do a great job of setting up a foundation of who Scully and Mulder are, individually, and what they're going to be as a duo. the first season is a lot more in the horror aspect of sci-fi horror, but it's also in a lot of ways the least intense season. I tend to think of it as "comfort horror," tbh, because while the vibes are darker than much that follows, it's also the season with (naturally) the last baggage on the characters and storylines, so it feels lighter at the same time.
I can give you a more comprehensive bare minimum viewing list if you want, but for now I would just say that Humbug or War of the Coprophages are good tribble episodes (keeping in mind the bug thing, but WotC is actually the episode I prefer 😅 Humbug kinda bores me bc the character dynamics are a bit flat imo) and Pine Bluff Variant is my favorite and my "sell someone on this show in one(1) episode" episode, so I hope that helps!! lemme know what you think!!!

Are there any OCs in this chapter/fic? Who’s your favorite? (as I've read your previous fics, I always enjoy the worlds you paint and the characters in the painting)
Hello again my dear!! And thank you so much, you are so lovely!! ;w; <33 I get so embarrassed about my use of OCs I have to admit, so it means a lot to hear that you enjoy them!
You know my writing! There are indeed OCs in... I think all of my WIPs actually... Though one of the WIPs is just a silly crack fic that guest stars one shotgun-wielding old French lady.
There are only two original characters in Axis, because I wanted to keep the cast small and focused on the Andy-Nicky-Joe dynamic. They are a father and son, called Freyr and Lárus. Nicky feels particularly sentimental and protective about the boy, Lárus, who is about 8 or 9. Sweet thing who wants to be a big grown man like his viking ancestors but is also young enough to be sad about lambs having to be slaughtered so they can eat.
The other WIP (new queer quartet adventure) is still in early development but I can tell you there will be a family of nobles, whose blind 11-13 year old daughter Quynh is hired to chaperone. I have a few other ideas floating around for background characters, just to bulk up the story and add more dynamics. I find it so hard to write these fics with only four characters omg... I gotta invent someone for them to fight with or become friends with dsfghf. And someone must always die or get hurt! I promise I did not intend to be an OC writer but here I am I guess.
As for favourites, I'm really enjoying working on the kids. So I'd say both Lárus and the noble girl (will get back to you on a name!). I just think the old guard has always had a soft spot for children, and that kids really trust them. <3

please help me- i used to be pretty smart but i’m having so much trouble grasping the concept of diegetic vs non-diegetic bdsm!
gfkjldghfd okay first of all I'm sorry for the confusion, if you're not finding anything on the phrase it's because I made it up and absolutely nobody but me ever uses it, but I haven't found a better way to express what I'm trying to say so I keep using it. but now you've given me an excuse to ramble on about some shit that is only relevant to me and my deeply inefficient way of talking and by god I'm going to take it.
Tumblr media
SO. the way diegetic and non-diegetic are normally used is to talk about music and sound design in movies/tv shows. in case you aren't familiar with that concept, here's a rundown:
diegetic sound is sound that happens within the world of the movie/show and can be acknowledged by the characters, like a song playing on the stereo during a driving scene, or sung on stage in Phantom of the Opera. it's also most other sounds that happen in a movie, like the sounds of traffic in a city scene, or a thunderclap, or a marching band passing by. or one of the three stock horse sounds they use in every movie with a horse in it even though horses don't really vocalize much in real life, but that's beside the point, the horse is supposed to be actually making that noise within the movie's world and the characters can hear it whinnying.
non-diegetic sound is any sound that doesn't exist in the world of the movie/show and can't be perceived by the characters. this includes things like laugh tracks and most soundtrack music. when Duel of Fates plays in Star Wars during the lightsaber fight for dramatic effect, that's non-diegetic. it exists to the audience, but the characters don't know their fight is being backed by sick ass music and, sadly, can't hear it.
the lines can get blurry between the two, you've probably seen the film trope where the clearly non-diegetic music in the title sequence fades out to the same music, now diegetic and playing from the character's car stereo. and then there are things like Phantom of the Opera as mentioned above, where the soundtrack is also part of the plot, but Phantom of the Opera does also have segments of non-diegetic music: the Phantom probably does not have an entire orchestra and some guy with an electric guitar hiding down in his sewer just waiting for someone to break into song, but both of those show up in the songs they sing down there.
now, on to how I apply this to bdsm in fiction.
if I'm referring to diegetic bdsm what I mean is that the bdsm is acknowledged for what it is in-world. the characters themselves are roleplaying whatever scenarios their scenes involve and are operating with knowledge of real life rules/safety practices. if there's cnc depicted, it will be apparent at some point, usually right away, that both characters actually are fully consenting and it's all just a planned scene, and you'll often see on-screen negotiation and aftercare, and elements of the story may involve the kink community wherever the characters are. Love and Leashes is a great example of this, 50 Shades and Bonding are terrible examples of this, but they all feature characters that know they're doing bdsm and are intentional about it.
if I'm talking about non-diegetic bdsm, I'm referring to a story that portrays certain kinks without the direct acknowledgement that the characters are doing bdsm. this would be something like Captive Prince, or Phantom of the Opera again, or the vast majority of bodice ripper type stories where an innocent woman is kidnapped by a pirate king or something and totally doesn't want to be ravished but then it turns out he's so cool and sexy and good at ravishing that she decides she's into it and becomes his pirate consort or whatever it is that happens at the end of those books. the characters don't know they're playing out a cnc or D/s fantasy, and in-universe it's often straight up noncon or dubcon rather than cnc at all. the thing about entirely non-diegetic bdsm is that it's almost always Problematic™ in some way if you're not willing to meet the story where it's at, but as long as you're not judging it by the standards of diegetic bdsm, it's just providing the reader the same thing that a partner in a scene would: the illusion of whatever risk or taboo floats your boat, sometimes to extremes that can't be replicated in real life due to safety, practicality, physics, the law, vampires not being real, etc. it's consensual by default because it's already pretend; the characters are vehicles for the story and not actually people who can be hurt, and the reader chose to pick up the book and is aware that nothing in it is real, so it's all good.
this difference is where people tend to get hung up in the discourse, from what I've observed. which is why I started using this phrasing, because I think it's very crucial to be able to differentiate which one you're talking about if you try to have a conversation with someone about the portrayal of bdsm in media. it would also, frankly, be useful for tagging, because sometimes when you're in the mood for non-diegetic bodice ripper shit you'd call the police over in real life, it can get really annoying to read paragraphs of negotiation and check-ins that break the illusion of the scene and so on, and the opposite can be jarring too.
it's very possible to blur these together the same way Phantom of the Opera blurs its diegetic and non-diegetic music as well. this leaves you even more open to being misunderstood by people reading in bad faith, but it can also be really fun to play with. @not-poignant writes fantastic fanfic, novels, and original serials on ao3 that pull this off really well, if you're okay with some dark shit in your fiction I would highly recommend their work. some of it does get really fucking dark in places though, just like. be advised. read the tags and all that.
but yeah, spontaneous writer plug aside, that's what I mean.

wait you don't like novel xy? why not? 🤔
I should probably say I don't like the parts of him I've actually read or seen excerpts of.
I simply don't jibe with him.Much as I love me my villains, I don't wholeheartedly embrace all shapes and forms and draw the line at certain crimes and threats for personal reasons. Also, I actually usually get really into villains who are more along the lines of Loki, Magneto (#Magnetowasright), Erik (Phantom), Count Fosco (The Woman in White--one of my all-time favorite characters)--and from what I've seen of novel!XY, he's even further from my usual type than the cql version.
In short, there was some "that's too much for me" and there was no emotional clicking to compensate. I might like him better if I read the I-assume-better-translated version of him in the official novels. I very much rely on writing style and realistic dialogue when it comes to books, which is why I find it hard to connect to anyone in poor translations, no matter how good the original work. I recently gave up on The Man in the Iron Mask halfway through to wait for a different translation to come into the library as the one I was reading (from a major classics publisher!) was so poor as to be distracting. (Still bitter about how that one got published.)
I'm sure people have great reasons for liking novel!XY and am glad he made enough of an impression on readers for him to get the screen time he did in cql!
