Harry's Style Evolution (by an actual stylist) Part 3: Fine Line Era! Part 1 of 2*
Hi hi hi. First of all thanks for all the love on Part 1 and Part 2 which are linked. I highly recommend reading them first as I'll be referencing some of his past style.
This one took me so long to do because Harry's Fine Line era is when he really develops the personal style that he's now known for, and I have LITERALLY SO MUCH TO SAY. So without further ado!
*LOL I HIT PIC LIMIT before we even got to 2020. This is officially HS Style part 3 but Part 1 of 2 for the Fine Line Era.

We left off in 2018, Harry was still touring his first album and was dating Camille Rowe (as far we know) who was beginning to influence his style.
After Live on Tour ends there's a period where we don't see him for a bit. Later we'll learn that him and Camille have broken up, and he jets off to Japan for some much needed hermit time.
2019
January, Harry's spotted in Japan. He rings in the new year with a ragtag batch of famous people that are for some reason all in Japan at the same time.
Here we see the debut of the custom gold Gucci rings that will become a staple for him (they retail at $470 each incase you were wondering.) We also see him in some Gucci jeans, and this vintage army jacket that I still have dreams about.
By March he's back in London and we get some more hints of his evolving personal style. He's back in jeans but he's over the black skinny's he previously coveted instead opting for a light wash straight leg. He wears this Raf Simmons jumper I'm obsessed with an looks oh-so-cozy. We'll also see the athletic outfits that he still wears today.
Also in March he introduced, and preforms with, Stevie Nicks as she's inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame.
He wears a gorgeous blue Gucci suit with white Gucci boots. We'll actually see him in this exact same Blue suit later in an ad campaign for Gucci for their Fall 2019 collection. (P.S. his hair is so delicious here I love this length on him.)
The next time we publicly see Harold is in May for the MET GALA! Y'all do not understand how hard I screamed in my living room when I found out he was going to be one of the chairs.
We first see him in a Gucci ensemble at the pre-gala dinner which he hosts at <3 Stonewall Inn <3 I literally remember when these pictures dropped me and the girlies were going stupid on Tumblr.com. It's hard to see in this picture but this is the first we see the EARRING! (May she rest)
I do remember being slightly disappointed with Harry's gala fit at the time. I wanted it a little campier and brighter, but as his style has evolved into the Harry's House era (we will get there when we get there lol.) I feel like in retrospect I can appreciate her much better.
She was delicate, she was sexy, and she was camp and queer in a much subtler way. The pearl earring really was everything not to mention the way he looks in the sheer black. YUM!
For the after party H changes into another Gucci ensemble which is very camp in an Orville Redenbacher way. He Gucci drop cross earring is a slay.
Also in May Harry attends his first (can you believe it?) Gucci show and wears one of my FAVORITE outfits he's ever worn.
It's head to toe Gucci of course, but the white suit with the white tank underneath it. Paired with pink sunglasses and pink soft loafers and a WICKER bag! Honey, THIS is styling!
He looks like he's about to ask if I wanna do a bump in the bathroom and my answer is YES!
Harry started working with Harry Lambert towards the end of his time in 1D, and so it's safe to assume that Lambert also had something to do with this outfit (and every other outfit he wears during this era.) How we fell from grace I still can't place in my head.
Anyway we also see his soon-to-be signature Fine Line pink and blue forever nails.
In August and September he appears on a myriad of Magazine covers. Most notably Rolling Stone, but my personal favorite The Face.
So what if I think about his photos for The Face in the night time sometimes, what're you gonna do sue me?!
Left he wears Bode shorts, middle a Gucci shirt and right a gorgeous Martine Rose jacket that he pairs with acid wash jeans.
In October the music video for Lights Up drops out of no where (fun fact when it dropped I was drunk in a club and went in the bathroom to watch it, when I woke up the next day I thought I'd dreamed the whole thing.
The Lights Up MV features a variety of looks. Including what will become the official Fine Line outfit: suspenders over an open shirt with high waisted trousers. This graphic is from Harry Fashion Archive which I did get a lot of these pics from so go check them out.
In November Fine Line the album is officially announced! (See how much there is to cover! We haven't even gotten to album release yet!)
On the cover Harry wears a custom Gucci ensemble of an open shirt, suspenders, and high waisted pants. Featuring Tom Walker's hand in a Gucci glove.
In November he hosts and is the musical guest on SNL where we get some great looks.
He preforms the soon-to-be smash hit Watermelon Sugar for the first time in a custom Watermelon-coloured Gucci suit. He also preforms Lights Up in a sequin Gucci suit.
On the show he wears another Gucci suit from their Spring/Summer collection (left). This look (right) is another all time favorite outfit of mine. A custom Bode shirt jacket paired with the iconic Christopher Kane "Sex" shirt, and brown Gucci trousers. This is another example of styling at its finest.
Off the show he wears a few sweater vests, most popular of which is this one by Lavin (left.) At a Spotify party for his album in December he will wear another Lavin piece, this time a cardigan, paired with baggy chinos and vans and the soon to infamous pearl necklace.
A few more fashion moments happen in December. He collaborates with Alessandro Michele for the first time to create this limited edition "Fine Line" t-shirt (left) that retails for $75. (Did anyone actually buy these?) He also goes through a Marc Jacobs sweater/shirt kick seen here on the Ellen show (right) but he wears them a few more times as well.
He preforms "Fine Line Live" in Los Angeles wearing the Gucci suit from the album cover paired with socks that say Fuck It (left.) Right he wears another Gucci suit to preform "Fine Line Live" in London.

NEW YORK
New York was a dream and this time around I got to enjoy the city differently. My first time to NYC was in 2018 with my mum and since it was my first time there I wanted to do all the touristy things and visit iconic movie landmarks. This time around the itinerary was different for my husband and I.
We got to take it a day at a time, visiting landmarks I've saved on my Pinterest and TikTok. We stayed on 42nd St which was directly next to Grand Central in the bustle of the city but my favourite spot from this trip has to be Brooklyn/Williamsburg.
I shared some of my recs via the different neighbourhoods we visited throughout our trip on my Instagram Broadcast channel but listing them all down below for an easier read :)

L'Appertement 4F - possibly my favourite and most memorable bakery spot ever. There was something about its cozy ambience as your approach their store in Brooklyn. It is the girl bakery dream. We had an Everything croissant and it was so fluffy, flavourful and the perfect type of savoury croissant.
Poppy's Brooklyn - matcha with pistachio milk! my first time trying pistachio milk and enjoyed the mix of matcha and pistachio.
Vinnies Brooklyn - come and stay for their elote pizza and add extra hot sauce ;)
Levain Bakery - a chain so you’ll find this everywhere but we went to the one at Williamsburg! Got the triple chocolate chip cookie yum.
Bakeri Brooklyn - the coziest looking bakery tucked in the midst of Williamsburg - I could imagine a cozy rainy day here. I saw a lot of people getting their soup of the day but we just got their Christmas special triple chocolate peppermint cookie.

From Lucie - oat milk latte with lavender (I’m not going to lie this may have been my favourite coffee so far) and we took away their mini carrot cake with vanilla frosting
Tompkins Square Bagels - everything bagel with cream cheese, the perfect bagel order when you’re not looking for a lot of things!
Katz Deli - some say pastrami, I say where Harry meets Sally. A wide menu to choose from, Ashwyn had their pastrami sandwich (as they’re famous for) and I had the cucumbers and pickles on the side with their house mustard which I loved.
SoHo:
What I ordered -
Eileen's Cheesecake - I don’t like cheesecake so this was for Ashwyn! He loves a good cheesecake anywhere. He got a strawberry tart and he said it was good and crumbly.
Sporty & Rich Cafe - when in SoHo and in NY, I had to… got the Smoothie #1 on their menu which was a mix of berries. It was yum and a large size.
Aime Leon Dore Cafe - also when in NY’s SoHo… known for their Freddo Espresso but we just got a cookie to go! Was caffeinated 2x by the time we got here.
Pop Up Bagels - we took away an Everything bagel and a Salted Poppyseed bagel with a tub of scallion schmear, this was soooo good.
La Cabra Coffee - took away their oat latte and it was divine.
Kips Bay:
What I ordered -
Birch Coffee - An everything croissant (you can tell that we had quite a bit of an “everything” something and all of it has been so good) and an iced honey oat latte + a hot vanilla oat latte.
Bryant Park/5th Avenue:
What I ordered -
Sweet Green - I’ve seen so much about it online, I just had to try it IRL. Loved my kale salad combo - crispy kale, miso glazed salmon, spicy cashew dressing, breadcrumbs, chilli flakes yum.
Suki Japanese Kitchen - a Japanese curry house; we both got the curry rice and tried it at different spice levels. Ashwyn got a 3 and I got a 5 ;)
Baked by Melissa - a city cupcake chain. We tried their mini Christmas sugar cookie, PB&J and cookie dough.
Magnolia Bakery - home of the best banana pudding in town and you know it.

1) The Witcher (2019-2021) Netflix
Love love love. This is exactly the type of shit I love to watch. I’ve barely played the game, but man this show is amazing. I love him in it and god he’s so delicious. Ideal man. Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Yennifer. Idk, I preferred her character before her transformation. I would have to rewatch the first season, but she seems kinda weak now, no spark. Is that the intention? Idk I don’t remember, but the show is a 10/10 regardless.

4) Night Hunter (2018) Amazon Prime Video
Hm. Interesting. Cavill, always a looker. So gruff and grizzly, daddy af. His ass in those pants? Fuck. Acab except for him. The movie was okay, it wasn’t bad but it was missing that oomf. I’m confused on his relationship with Rachel? Like, I got the impression that they had an affair but I don’t think it was ever mentioned, and idk, it was just weird because it was never explained why they were standoffish. Also, I will need to watch more of his stuff, but he seemed kinda stiff in this movie, idk if that’s just because he’s built like two mac trucks or what but the movie overall gets a 5/10. Cavill gets a 7/10, not convinced this was his best. However, I would let me shove his gun in my mouth and I would say thank you.
5) Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018) Paramount Plus
I’ve never actually seen any of the Mission Impossible movies but this was pretty good. Ngl, it felt very acting and not acting, like, it was obvious acting idk how to describe it. Cavill looking fine as ever, he can manhandle me any day of the year. His ass in those pants? Daddy? Sorry, Daddy? Sorry...I wish he didn’t have an American accent tho, kinda felt weird, like it was almost American but not. I thought he was great in it though, god I love him. 9/10 Cavill, 10/10 screen time, 6/10 movie

Damn, this movie long as fuck. NOT looking forward to seeing Justice League bc that shit is 4 hours long...when did movies stop being 1hr 30min??? Anyway, this movie was good. Very action packed, great story, Superman...yum...Batman? Let’s be honest, Ben Affleck do be kinda hot ngl. 10/10 Cavill, 9/10 movie.

Mm, mm, mm. Never seen a Superman movie tbh, and lawd. Wish he wasn’t clean cut as Superman, how he first looked was daddy af, but ya know. Also, let us mention Zod animal crawling up the side of the building like he's a gd furry, let us also mention Zod's skin tight ass suit, when he took off the armor and was just left in that Cling Wrap 9000 and was supposed to be tougher, he just looked dumb lmfao

So Many Fanfics So Little Time
This is just my list, I have seen so many (but if you want to use it it’s all yours too!). I’m not a writer. But I am a hell of a reader. Voracious one might argue. I just wanted to track my progress through the weeds of the absolutely never ending supply of Destiel and Cockles fanfic.
Read on if you want to see what I’ve read, and what I’ve thought. I am but one person with opinions - some of them may be unpopular - some of them you might agree with, but if you find something you haven’t read here, I encourage you to do so.
Honestly, this is just so I can track what I have read already, and when my friends ask, I can reference something easily. I have found some different fics on all kinds of ‘best of’ lists all over the interwebs. And I love recs - so rec away friends.
As someone who reads a solid 40 novels a year typically, I don’t come by the “I read a lot” innocently. I do actually read a LOT. When not reading fanfic (a new obsession, all things being fair), I usually read a lot of Fantasy/high fantasy, romance/erotica, and or YA (yeah, that was a bit of a ride no?). So from this one might digress that I like fluffy, cute stories, complicated and supernatural/paranormal type stories, and I sure do not shy away from violence or smut (or maybe violence with smut? *smirk*).
I have read all of these in the last 2-3 months (I will continue to add as I go). I had never read a fanfic until 2-3 months ago. A lot of these wonderful people are on here, and I mean you no offence by not directly tagging you - I’m still learning how to actually properly use this site. Links to AO3 are included (and I love you all).
These aren’t necessarily in any real order - I did read T&S first, followed by 91W, and 4LW...after that it’s just a shit show of Long or Short, Destiel or Cockles - smorgasbord. Some of these are the most popular Fics out there, and others I’ve never seen recc’d anywhere (just sort of accidentally happened upon them). So let’s get to it, shall we?
Twist and Shout - ok look. I understand the stigma associated with this one, but it was the FIRST one I read. It was the ball that shot me down the hill, and I haven’t stopped since. So. I loved it. I CRIED like a baby. SOBBED. It was not the quality of the writing but the way the story was developed and delivered. I have Never Cried Like This Reading a Story IN MY LIFE. It’s a rite of passage. Read It and have an opinion - it doesn’t need to be mine.

Ninety-One Whiskey - aka 91W, it is mentioned so much, and is SO worth the read. I continued my dive into the war fics (not typically my bag really and here I was reading 2 in a row). There are a couple of followup stories as well to this series (and yes, I’ve read them all). Although I’ll say that the original is my favourite. I often got lost in a bit of the War/Tactical descriptions, but would recommend it to anyone anyway. Ugh...the “stolen moments”...they were at the same time tragic and the most amazing things ever. You feel me? no? go read it.

Four Letter Word for Intercourse - aka 4LW. OMG just, OMG. I loved this story. I loved it so much. I think I read it in a day. Devoured it. It’s so HOT. Just read it. If you haven’t you’re missing out. LEMME AT IT. I loved “knowing the secret”, and had some major anxiety about that realization dawning (I had to take a breath, and be like, no, no, this is gonna be a mess, but it’s gonna be SO GOOD - I was not disappointed). It’s a one night stand that turns into more (much like my last relationship)....hmm...maybe this is why I was pulled in - although to be fair that is the last similarity to my shitty love life! I do not remember how I stumbled onto this one (tattooed Cas may have been the draw...tbh). Read the warnings though, there is some triggering stuff in this one - but if you can handle it, it’s definitely worth the read.

As 2022 comes closer, we focus on new beginnings - anything that is new, really - but I’d like to take a break from the demands of change and look at old favourites. List some of your oldies but goldies, such as things that you turn to when you’re in a bad mood and need cheering up, or just things that are close to your heart. Doesn’t matter how many or what kind of things you list, I just think it would be nice to share what makes us happy and cosy. Here are mine:
Folklore. In need, I always turn to music. The Beatles, George Harrison, Arctic Monkeys, The Last Shadow Puppets, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Måneskin... But folklore came at a time when nothing happened and things were dreary. It is my sanctuary, and one of my biggest inspirations.
Joe Thomas’s Lamb Story. Comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble have a podcast called Off Menu where guests get to talk about their dream menus. Joe Thomas tells a story about how he one Christmas buried a lamb in a garden with his friend’s middle-aged dad. It’s such a good story it demanded an entire Christmas special. I often listen to just that bit to smile for a while. The story begins at 39:49, but the whole episode is stellar.
Född fenomenal. My favourite book. It’s written by one of Sweden’s most prominent comedic actors/writers as a diary of a girl who’s obsessed with Anne Frank. I read about five times a year.
The Mamma Mia movies (2008) (2018). Look, I’m Swedish. I’m required to like ABBA. But I can objectively say these movies are the best comfort watches possible. The actors to the music to the jocular ambition... everything’s just great, and the second one is so much about motherly love it hurts.
Little Women (2019). I can draw a distinct line from watching Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird (2017) and Little Women and reading Little Women by LM Alcott to me starting writing and actually continuing. I love the whole Little Women things for what it is and isn’t, for what it couldn’t be when Louisa wrote the book and what it should have been.
John Mulaney’s New in Town bit. Okay, I could have put anything down here by John Mulaney (’Hello? Hush!’ ‘I was over on the bench!’) but this bit is just... God, he’s so good at telling stories.
Walks and runs. I go for a walk when I need to think, and I go for a run when I don’t want to think. The best medicine for a muddled brain.
The Last Shadow Puppets interview with Yahoo. Yahoo described this interview as “a cat-herding-like exercise in futility” and Alex and Miles’s banter always makes me laugh. ‘Trying for another babeh’ and ‘Finish each other’s falafels! Don’t you mean?’ are classics.
Moonage Daydream cover by The Last Shadow Puppets. Alex singing to Cam who takes his sweet time getting to the stage. Miles strutting. Alex, holding a cup, dancing jerkily. Cam taking one giant sideways leap from one microphone to another. Them playing the song in a way Bowie would have been proud of. Everything’s just great.
Anything with the Beatles. They always make me happy :)

Why Armie Hammer’s Scandal Is More Than Kink Shaming
The 34 year old actor has had numerous allegations thrown his way this past month, from cannibalism to an obsession with BDSM. But do these allegations go beyond a widely accepted community of kink lovers and venture into deeply rooted misogyny?
Warning: this article contains mentions of cannibalism and sexual assault.
For those of you who aren’t aware of Armie Hammer’s presence on screen, you may be scratching your head and wondering what on earth people are talking about, seeing the cannibalism aspect to this all as face value without making the connection between Hammer’s past behaviours and current allegations. The actor who rose to prominence in Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher’s The Social Network (2013) playing both of the Winklevoss twins, has become quite the favourite amongst the film industry. His role Oliver in Luca Guadagnino’s Call me by your name (2017) has sent Twitter into a permanent frenzy as memes and daily adoration for Chalamet and Hammer’s on screen romance continue to thrive even 4 years after the film's release. As well as Call me your name, Hammer is known for roles in Sorry to Bother You (2018), Rebecca (2020), On the Basis of Sex (2018) and soon to be released, Death on The Nile (2021). He currently has another film due to be released and a Call me by your name sequel in development. Sounds as if he’s got a lot going for him and despite him not being the biggest star to be churned out of Hollywood today, the recognition is still there and with that, he’s still being paid.
The Allegations
At the beginning of the year, an account emerged under the handle of @houseofeffie, that was created to expose some lurid and unpleasant communication between several women and Armie Hammer. Some of which he had relations with whilst married to his now ex wife Elizabeth Chambers. The nature of these dms are incredibly disturbing and worrying considering that Hammer not only has children but as an actor, spends a proportionate time around women.
These are just a few of the messages that were exposed that led the media to brandish Hammer as a “cannibal”:
Hammer:
“You are the god damned standard I hold women to in terms of kink and enjoyment of fucking the[n]...”
“I need to drink your blood, why the distance?”
“...thinking of holding your heart in my head and controlling when it beats”
“I am 100% a cannibal...I want to eat you....Fuck...that’s scary to admit..”
“I’ve cut the heart out of a living animal before and eaten it while still warm”
“You were the most intense and extreme version [that I’ve ever had]. Raping you on the floor with a knife against you. Everything else seemed boring”
“You [were] crying and screaming, me standing over you. I felt like a god. I’ve never felt such power or intensity.”
“You just live to obey and be my slave”
“Would you come and be my property till you die? If I wanted to cut off one of your toes and keep it with me in my pocket so I always had a piece of you in my possession?”
“I want to see your brain, your blood, your organs, every part of you… I would definitely bite it...100%”
...O-kay. Lots to unpack here. First and fore mostly, I’d like to address the kink shaming element to all of this. I personally don’t see any harm in kinks, BDSM, pornography, as long as people are consenting and aren’t inflicting unsolicited pain upon people. Therefore, kink shaming and finding Hammer’s taste in sexual preferences isn’t what we are here to discuss. In fact when I first read the allegations, that wasn’t even my initially thought. CNN posted an article two days ago titled “Armie Hammer May Be Disturbed, But Is Shaming Him the Answer?” an opinion based article by Aaron Weaver that explores the allegations and believes Hammer shouldn’t be shamed for his kinks. But this begs the question whether Hammer was actually being shamed? I didn’t see much evidence for this seeing as people were mostly horrified by his taste in human flesh than anything else, a kink that is uncommon in the BDSM community and is only practiced by the most extreme.
Kinks aside, the most worrying thing about the DMs above is the way in which he views women and their bodies. It’s clear to see that he might not have much respect for women seeing as he proudly states his willingness to cut them up and drink their blood. And funnily enough, the sexual objectification of women’s bodies for one's own sexual pleasure without considering their comfortability is classed as misogyny. A reddit user made an extremely good point on a thread about Hammer’s scandal stating:
“To me, the problem is not that he’s into rough sex, or that he has kinks some people find scary. It’s not about yucking his yum, so to speak. I’m more concerned that he may have ignored safe words and pushed his partners beyond their limits. I feel like the media is focusing so much on his kinks and sexuality as opposed to his ignoring of consent, which is a complete and utter inversion of priorities”
Past Relationships
Another example of Hammer disrespecting the boundaries of women and sexual pleasure would be his past girlfriend Paige Lorenze. Lorenze is a 23 year model and former professional skier who has shone a light on Hammer’s worrying behaviour and his involvement in BDSM activity. The sources of Lorenze’s allegations are highly unreliable, which is one of the most frustrating things about this entire charade. The BBC BRIEFLY covered the fact that Hammer dropped out of his latest film amid the allegations, without fully going into detail about the allegations or the abuse subjected towards his former partners. It just goes to show we’re rubbish at taking abuse seriously enough to the point where people are punished for their wrongdoings. Had a more reliable news source covered this story, then it’d make it more viable to the public. Even though this scandal is in its early days, that doesn’t necessarily mean it's unimportant or should be swept under the rug along with the hundreds of other scandals that Hollywood refuses to expose.
Only the Daily Mail, The Sun and Page Six seem to have gone in depth with the accusations, making the entire story rather murky for the reader. Anyhow, Paige Lorenze said to the Daily Mail that Hammer had carved an ‘A’ above her groin without her consent and licked it whilst it bled. He had also reportedly tied her up and hit her with paddles to fuel his BDSM obsession and sexual desires. Lorenze was quoted saying 'Any man who is fantasizing about crushing bones, eating them, having sex with female limp bodies is a danger to all women'. Hammer insisted to Lorenze that his behaviour was normal, and that there was an entire community of people that carried out the same things he did on her. This is partially correct seeing as the global sex play market is worth over $30 billion, with practices in such activities dating back to the mid 19th century. However, the one thing the BDSM community doesn’t condone is not giving consent, which is where the fine line is drawn in between Hammer’s sexual preferences and the BDSM community. His choice to carve that ‘A’ into Lorenze isn’t backed up by a wider community of people who enjoy a variety of sexual pleasure. Lorenze claims he also DMed nude photos of her being tied up to people without her consent, further perpetuating Hammer’s lack of respect towards people’s boundaries. This is a serious incident, that sees someone with more power (Hammer is 6’5 and Lorenze is 5’6 btw) assert their dominance and by doing so, degrades and harms someone else. We shouldn’t be kink shaming Hammer, but shaming him for thinking that this behaviour is acceptable.
Hammer’s previous relationships can also draw some light into his lack of respect for women. He and his wife Elizabeth Chambers divorced in July 2020 after a decade of marriage. Though it's unknown what triggered the separation, these recent allegations may have something to do with it. Furthermore, two other women have come forward to express their distaste towards Hammer and his questionable fantasies. Entrepreneur and ex-girlfriend of Armie Hammer, Courtney Vucekovich, told Page Six that Hammer wanted to “break [her] rib and barbecue it and eat it”. She also expressed how easy it was for Hammer to charm his way through into getting women, especially young women into doing what he wants through “active manipulation and making you feel like he’s never felt this way about anybody.” Lorenze was also subjected to similar retort after reporting that Hammer too wanted to barbecue one of her ribs because she “didn’t need it”. Writer Jessica Ciencen Henriquez took to twitter last summer after a lunch date with Hammer and expressed that she had blocked him on Instagram. She later went on to tweet this:
“If you are still questioning whether or not those Armie Hammer DMs are real (and they are) maybe you should start questioning why we live in a culture willing to give abusers the benefit of the doubt instead of victims”
Exactly my point here. There’s not much to this scandal other than the fact that several people were hurt and undermined and someone else caused it. Someone who is societally above everyone because of their race, class, status and gender, with a well connected and dominant family support system.
His background and past
Hammer comes from a very powerful and wealthy family. Hammer’s great grandfather, Armand Hammer, was the chief executive officer and president of the Occidental Petroleum company founded in 1920. Now if you’re wondering the exact scale of such a company that is still running today, they are the 4th largest oil and gas acquisition in the entire world worth over $100 billion. ONE HUNDRED, BILLION, DOLLARS. Not all actors in Hollywood can say that their great-grandfathers were worth that much, which gives me little hope in seeing Hammer be held accountable for what he’s done. He was also kicked out of UCLA after apparently not “being able to do it”. Just another rich white male with enough power, malice and money to work his way around any struggle.
Now that we’ve established Hammer’s allegations, it’s worth looking back to see whether the signs of such behaviour were already prevalent in the numerous interviews he partook in over the years. Complex highlighted an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2017, where the host brought up Hammer’s obsession with knots, to which he laughed off and claimed that “knots make sense” that they are a “language” and referenced how man used knots before the wheel. Valid points but ones that are debunked in light of his interest in BDSM. during a 2013 interview with Playboy (appropriate) Hammer expressed that his “sexual appetites changed'' when he married his wife and that hair pulling used to be something he enjoyed but could no longer do now that he was married “even though he wanted to”. This is quite the backwards comment when we’re talking about respecting boundaries and it's clear to see it was only a matter of time before his desires could no longer be repressed.
Since this whole shit storm began to travel Hammer’s way, he has since dropped out of the film The Billion Dollar Spy, which would’ve seen him star alongside Jennifer Lopez. BBC News reported that this move was made as Hammer stated that “I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic” following the ‘vicious’ online abuse he’s been subjected to. Hammer was again put in the firing line by Grand Cayman law enforcement for lying about a woman provocatively shown in a video was Miss Cayman of the Miss Cayman beauty pageant that’s held on the island. He and the woman were warned for their misconduct and had confirmed the matter is now closed.
Final Thoughts
There are enough red flags in Hammer’s behaviour to open up a flag store, and I would go as far as to say that this isn’t the end of it. For someone who’s grown up having the majority of things they want, it's easy to want more beyond morality and despite the discomfort of others. Hammer’s move to drop out of his latest film was an attempt to lessen the blow of hate being turned towards him as opposed to the benefit of those he’s hurt. So far, him and his lawyer have denied all allegations and further action hasn’t been taken against the Hollywood star. He’s apologised for the DMs and brandished his actions a “foolish attempt at humour”.
Wrapping his own behaviour up in humour is an attempt to detract from the severity of the behaviour itself, whilst excusing it, something he can get away with because of his status.
Major media outlets haven’t done much in even attempting to expose this man’s behaviour and have left it up to unreliable sources to piece together the true persona of Armie Hammer. Though innocent until proven guilty, common sense is widely available to the general public meaning we should be delving into the past a little and comparing it to these allegations. Along with Hammer’s character, family and unnerving Instagram posts of cutting up meat and eating raw steak, there doesn’t seem to be much in the actor’s favour.
All I would say is as a director, producer, writer or actor, would you feel comfortable in being associated with someone who believes they're a cannibal and marvels at the idea of drinking human blood? Or someone who goes as far to objectify women to the point where they become nothing but sexual fulfilment and pieces of meat?
That’s all I’ll say and those who do feel comfortable doing such a thing means that Hammer may still have a career at the end of the day. One point to Hollywood, no points to political correctness and respecting women.

I have a confession to make: even though I am ethnically 1/4th Dutch, I really have never liked any of the food I've had by them.
First I tried stroopwafel cookies from the Europa Food Market in Midlothian. The guy who runs this store is a total sweetheart. The first time I was there, he ended up telling me about growing up in the USSR, stories about every single food I picked out and how Europeans don't have GMOs in their food so it's healthier. And he had bagels imported from NYC, so we ended up laughing about how there are no real bagels in Virginia, like he said, "they just put a hole in bread and call it a bagel, but there's no comparison." heh. He gave me a free Russian candy for Valentine's Day too.
That first day there, my haul was Zucchini fried with vegetables from Russia, sesame candy from Russia, carbonated lemonade from Russia, Taranechka dried fish from Thailand, Galicia smoothie from Ukraine, stroopie cookies from Netherlands, Bread rings from Moldova, fruit punch from Bulgaria. And a black and white cookie and bagel from NYC (as a NY expat, this made me feel like I was back home!).
But stroopwafels are... blegh. Too sticky, too hard, too chewy... I had them once in tea and that was do-able, I suppose. But not really my thing.
WHERE: Universal Yum Yums Subscription Box November 2018
By the time I got this Universal Yum Yums box, I already crossed the Netherlands off my list. But it was really nice to get this box when I was missing my own family for the holidays because of that 25% of me that is Dutch. This was the first box the company sent out with its updated booklet and flag flyer, and it was so pretty. I get ridiculously excited about silly stuff like that even though it's something so inconsequential and geeky. But when you subscribe to a box for over 2 years you like to see awesome new changes...
Again, they sent me stroopwafels-- again, I hated them. There were some other things in the box like cadillacs and a whole bunch of chocolates, but those stroopwafels still haunt me.

So after complaining about my dislike of Netherlands food on Reddit, another member that I didn't even know suggested maybe it was that I was trying the WRONG type of Netherlands food. So he sent me those black sprinkles the put on toast, better cadillacs and some other odd and ends from Netherlands. He really went out of his way too. But as I tried everything, I just had to come to the conclusion that the 1/4th of me that is Dutch is not enough to like their food. I feel bad, like I'm not fully embracing my heritage here. Maybe someday I'll find a Dutch recipe I like, but for now, alas, this cuisine and I are just not meant to be.

2020.
2019, for all intents and purposes, was one of the best years of my life. And then we rolled into 2020, which definitely toppled a lot of things and forced me to stop in my tracks, sit with my thoughts, and try and re-evaluate most everything. It took down the industry I’ve worked in for the past 7 years, it taught me how important my family relationships are, and it somehow also brought me to a new state (though that may have come this year regardless). The year has left me tired, confused, frustrated, and still playing catch-up on finances months later. So, here’s to focusing on the good things amongst it all.
2020 Highlights:
Ecuador. My first trip to South America turned out to be the best trip I’ve ever had the opportunity to take. Partially because of the people I came to travel with, partially because of the locals who went above and beyond to welcome me, and partially because of the absolute wonder that is the Galapagos. Everything you see in videos and postcards is absolutely the real thing. There’s an island where you can send things via “pirate mail” (which of course has gone nowhere since March), outdoor dinners in the street are the norm, and plantains are served with most meals (yum!) Also, swimming alongside sea turtles is absolutely something you need to experience at least once in your life.
Savannah. My one and only race escape of the year. There’s something special about airport rocking chairs and employees who recommend you their favorite food spot in town. There’s this kind of magic to reading a book on a bench beside the Forsyth Park fountain and watching the lights trickle on for the evening. There’s the glamor of Spanish moss in old, sprawling cemeteries and the kindness of airbnb hosts.
Blazin’ Paddles. River life was one of the unexpected (but much-appreciated) results of losing my job back in March. I stumbled into an opportunity to be a kayak tour guide for the summer, which was really the best case scenario all things considered. I had the chance to spend my summer days soaking up the water and sunshine and meeting people from across the US. Also, I had a pretty rad group of coworkers to welcome me in for those few months.
Texas. I can’t say much yet except that Texans just do whatever the hell they want and act like COVID doesn’t exist, so. There’s that. But I dig the small town America vibe we’ve got where we’re at, and I very much look forward to upping my live concert intake once we get back to that type of existence. On a more fun note, we had the chance to revisit some of my favorite Route 66 spots, as well as a whole new stretch (to me!) of the road on our relocation out here. Getting to spray paint a Cadillac at Cadillac Ranch has been on my list for years.
National Parks. The NPS explorations continued with a weekend camping trip in Great Basin (s’mores! Milky Way! Comet!) and a day trip excursion out to Zion to hike the Narrows. Buying an NPS annual pass is one of my favorite things I’ve done as an adult, and I 100% recommend doing so if you’re anywhere near some spots parks/monuments/recreation areas/etc.
Crystal Pier. Crystal Pier was home to me before I knew what it meant to have a second home. It’s sun and sand and cool evenings and driving over the wooden slats of the pier and digging for sand crabs and breakfast at Kono’s. This year meant a little bit more with getting to share the experience with Chris and also getting in one last solid family weekend in before moving.

Plenty has changed in Simone Biles’ life since last year’s GK U.S. Classic. The reigning Olympic all-around champion has been busy “adulting” -- having bought her first house, she’s also discovered some of the startling things that come with owning one’s own place.
“The cleaning!” Biles exclaimed. “You wipe down a counter, you walk by five minutes later, and it’s somehow dirty again...that blows my mind. And all the bills! I try to count how many days I can go without spending, but then my gas runs low or this happens, and I’m always somehow just spending money.”
One thing that hasn’t changed: A year after making her grand return to gymnastics after taking time to breathe following the 2016 Olympics, Biles remains the one to beat. The 22-year-old made that clear during Friday’s podium training session at the KFC Yum! Center, where she took both of her new tumbling passes -- a gravity-defying triple-twisting double tuck somersault and a double layout half out to immediate punch front layout -- onto the raised competition floor, known as the “podium,” for the first time.
“It’s a good stepping stone for the future meets,” said Biles, who won’t necessarily compete both the new passes at Saturday’s competition. Still, the experience of doing such hard skills in a competition setting is an important part of the learning process, and a stepping stone to next summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“Leading up to the Olympics, you don’t do too many upgrades, change too many things, just make sure everything’s really consistent,” Biles said after Friday’s training. “This year is a good concrete year to lay out anything that you’ve been wanting to work and put out in front of a crowd.”
“Gaining experience” is one of the themes of this weekend’s Classic, for Biles as well as her peloton of challengers on the U.S. Team. After a fairly quiet spring marked by World Cup appearances here and there, Saturday’s Classic marks the beginning of the season in earnest for elite women gymnasts, who are aiming to qualify for next month’s U.S. Championships in Kansas City, and U.S. National Team members seeking to polish skills or lock down a team spot at the upcoming Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Further off into the distance is October’s World Championships, and a good showing at the GK U.S. Classic can help a gymnast make her case for inclusion on that team, too.
For five-time World medalist Morgan Hurd, Louisville is a chance to get back into the game. Hurd’s only competition appearance so far this year came when she won the Tokyo World Cup back in April, and she’s planning to use her weekend to “gain back some confidence and get back into the mode,” she said. The recent high school graduate has undergone her own spate of changes lately, including getting a brand new floor routine, set to a vocals-laden piece of music, and choreography infused with her special variety of poise and expressiveness.
“This routine, I decided I’m a warrior, Amazonian-esque, and going into battle. At the end I’m like mourning the dead,” she laughed. Being done with school has changed her schedule “tremendously,” and for the better, she added: “I take a two-hour nap between practices every day, and it’s great!”
MyKayla Skinner, a two-time World team member who has spent the past three years competing for the University of Utah, comes to Louisville determined to re-stamp her mark on the elite scene, where she believes her Amanar vault would be a key asset to the U.S. team. Older and more experienced, the 22-year-old from Arizona hopes to harness her explosive power on vault and floor, coupling it with the steadiness and attention to detail she’s been able to glean in the NCAA.
“Since I’ve been in college, I’ve been able to narrow down and work on the little things: the execution, the form, just trying to straighten my legs a little bit more. I’m not very flexible, so it is very hard for me, and it was nice going back and taking a step back and being able to work on those things,” Skinner said. “The difficulty is coming -- it’s not fully there yet, so I hope by championships I can get it to where I need it to be. Other than that, I’m just going out there and trying to get back from where I left off, and hopefully be even better.”
Fifteen-year-old Leanne Wong, who showed exceptional potential with her win at the American Cup in March, agreed with coach Al Fong’s assessment of her as a silent force. “I’m pretty quiet, but it means I’m really determined to win and work hard,” she said. A spot on the Pan American Games squad is her next big target.
For 2018 World team gold medalists Grace McCallum and Riley McCusker and double World silver-medalist Jade Carey, Louisville is another opportunity to demonstrate what they’re capable of. The competition is an “icebreaker” for the rest of the year, said McCusker, a contender for both the Pan Am and World teams.
“Just going up there, getting the kinks out and having a great meet would be my goal,” she said. “I definitely still get nervous, but I feel like I’ve matured. This is my fourth Classic now. I feel like I definitely know how to handle the nerves a lot better, and I think that’s just something you gain from experience.”

Ukrainian Grandma’s chicken dumpling soup. I’ve come close but can’t match hers.
My California grandma’s traditional chicken breast with lima beans and sourdough bread with lots of butter. Simple, tasty, and I’ve never learned to cook chicken to get the texture quite like she did. I’m mostly vegetarian now but damn I miss this dish.
Just about everything on the damn menu at the late lamented Kathmandu Chullo (Nepalese) in Royal Oak MI, but especially their puffed-rice appetizer Sherpa Khaza.
Ukrainian Grandma’s chebureki, a pan-fried meat turnover of Crimean Tatar origin. We’ve learned to make them but hers were, of course, the best. Thankfully other variations on Asian “mountain food” tend to have something close, often filled with potato or even pumpkin. Yum.
A meal of whole-wheat bread, cheddar cheese, and butter I was served at my grandma’s friends’ house in the UK in 1991. I was eleven years old and had puked up all the food on the plane not because it was bad (it was great) but because I ate too much candy during the 10-hour flight. I was famished and that meal stood out as the best thing I’d ever tasted.
The asparagus soup and stuffed dumplings I had in a cafe in Innsbruck, Austria in 1998. Green & white asparagus mingled together mmmm.
Plain pasta or egg noodles with lots of butter and pepper. Simple. Tasty. Could eat all week.
The vegetarian biriyani I made earlier this year hot damn that stuff was The Best.
Fessenjan with zereshk polo from the local Persian restaurants. All polos (fancy rice pilaus) are good but the sweet pomegranate-walnut stickiness of fessenjan paired with the bright red acidity of the barberries in zereskh polo is amazing. Wash it down with a good glass of Shiraz, oh yeah.
