Trick or treat @ Norton 👀?

"Oh. It's just you."

Though, for all that it's worth, Norton isn't entirely sure what he'd been expecting upon hearing such an eager knocking at his door—what with the varying idiosyncrasies of the manor's ever growing population—but the sight of you donning a halloween costume certainly wasn't anything he could've prepared himself for.

There's a small smile on your face, a glimmer of pride that he can make out in the dimmed lighting as he scans your attire, waiting for an answer to the infamous question.

And, despite the fact that he's never been one to celebrate the holiday, he's worked long enough around those who do to understand the traditions, pieces of candy once passed around by the other miners—delicious sweets giving momentary motivation, even as the hot sun beat down on them.

"Let me see what I've got." He hums, leaving the door wide open as he retreats to his desk and allowing you to watch him shuffle through its drawers, accidentally bumping his hat on the underside of the mahogany once he retrieves what he's looking for. You let out a small laugh once he confirms he's alright.

He's never been the biggest fan of anything overly sugary, a tidbit of information that's only reinforced by the pieces of chocolate he drops into your outstretched hands. Dark, with an insanely high percentage of cacao, original shape distorted, a bitterness lingering within your mouth when you decide to give one a try.

Well... at least it's something?

woah. hey. other than the possible food poisoning earlier nothing much has been happening. kind of poopy hangout experience yesterday. volunteering this morning. like 3 kittens got out of their kennel and i almost peed my pants like get back here please lord god... picking up kpop merch from an old coworker tomorrow..which means i need to show up back there....it's fine. i will have hangouts later to watch loz memories and play totk and i can finally FINISH P5R!!! plus i get to write and make art and learn choreos and SUMMER IS COMING which means my friends and i will be going to carnivals and an anime convention and get to be silly and happy like LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL WHEN UR NOT IN SCHOOL !!! 🫂🫂🫂🫂

SAND BLANKETS ㅤ. . .ㅤ﹫ yang jungwon ★

꒰ 🧾 ꒱ yang jungwon & gn reader, 600 words. ㅤg angst, slight fluff, one-sided pining, no set au, drabble. ㅤw brief mentions of food and alcohol.ㅤlibrary

when the sun nudged the horizon line, bounded by the calm waves of twinkling water and sea foam, there was peace. innocent laughs bounced against the rocks surrounding the beach, committing to memory the afternoon of july eleventh.

with your feet buried in the warm sand, you snorted at jake and riki play wrestling in the sea and sunoo cackling loudly while floating around. heeseung was dead asleep in a hammock while jay and sunghoon had a drinking contest.

your group chatted far away by a bonfire, and a distinct silhouette brought a shy smile to your lips. one of your friends — who you had been cultivating feelings for — clumsily burned themselves with their s’mores, blowing on their own hand with a pout.

the chilly wind nipped at your exposed skin, quietly reminding you of your current setting, and that the night would soon arrive. you shuddered, considering approaching your friends and crush before a person came to your side.

jungwon stood beside you with a fluffy blanket over his shoulders, preventing his own warmth from escaping. he had a white muscle shirt and shorts hidden below the fabric.

an adorable smile stretched his lips, long eyes imitating crescents as he glanced at you. “hi,” he sat down next to you on the fallen tree trunk, knees and arms touching.

“hey,” you beamed back, softly shoving his side. “eventful day, wasn’t it?”

“don’t even get me started.” jungwon feigned annoyance by rolling his eyes, but ended up bursting into a fit of giggles. his focus switched quickly to the two young adults downing cups of jack daniels, “i bet ten bucks that sunghoon's alcohol tolerance is better than jay’s.”

“you’re insane.” a gasp went past your mouth. you knew he was just teasing you. “sunghoon winning against jay? you better have that money on you.”

yang bit his lip to contain more laughs, turning to your shivering form, “you’ll catch a cold like this.” he reprimanded you, wrapping your body with his arms and blanket. “you need to be more careful.”

watching him card his fingers through his damp hair, covered in sea salt, you muttered, “sorry… thanks for the blanket.”

“it’s okay.” he waved you off.

your eyes rested, and you could only hear the calming sound of water and distant chatter lulling you into a deep slumber. the skies progressively got darker with each passing moment, and the weather got colder, but the temperature ceased to bother you as jungwon’s coziness embraced you.

while in your best friend’s hold, he pressed his chapped lips to your temple, basking in your presence. he let out little laughs when you groaned and shifted around to find a more comfortable position to rest.

in sequence, you ended up with your head on his lap. admiration filled his gaze to the brim, fixed on your side profile. a voice calling out for jay snapped him out of his trance, his eyes traveling to the person you loved the most.

his throat clamped at the sight of your crush walking around so carefree, unaware of your mutual sentiments for them. but jungwon was already conscious of the lovesick problems you were enduring because of this friend — you had broken his heart unknowingly early that morning, ranting your soul out about how you were fond of them.

if that wasn’t enough, yang noticed the liking they had for you, being ever so caring and kind. it was obvious how they would be the perfect partner, offering everything you deserved and so much more. they would do everything jungwon wished he could do to you. they would love you and long for you, though not as much as him (or, at least, that was what he liked to think).

jungwon could also be a good boyfriend, if given the chance. he would take you to adorable dates, litter your skin in tiny kisses, bring you over to meet his whole family, and cherish you unconditionally, like how he had been trying to do for the past years. however, that was not his case, and he could merely watch you sleep on his lap whilst your mind dreamed of someone else.

despite knowing that you didn’t reciprocate his feelings, jungwon caressed your cheekbones as if you were his lover, heart crushed like the sand beneath his feet, though still alive and threatening to jump out of his ribcage. after all, maybe someday he would manage to sweep you off your feet, and you’d finally see him in the same lights he saw you.

dazai can’t seem to ignore the ringing of his phone, even when he knows who is the caller. so he answers, despite knowing he shouldn’t.

but dazai knows, that the heart wants what it wants.

“hello?”

he hears a sob on the other line and his heart already breaks, “…y/n? are you okay?”

you take a deep breath, trying to steady your breathing to no avail. he steps in to help, “y/n, go drink some water then try slowing down your breathing as much as you can.”

you do as you’re told and dazai patiently waits on the other line. you take another deep breath, much calmer now and he speaks up, “can you talk now?”

“yeah,” you say shakily.

he hums, “do you want something?”

he shouldn’t have asked; he already the answer.

“I j-just want to see you,” you whisper and he sighs.

he walks to his window and leans on it, staring into the sky, “belladonna, that can’t happen right now; you know that, don’t you, pretty?”

his voice is soft and gentle, but you start crying again and he releases a pained sigh, “love?”

“I can’t anymore,” you let out but it’s small and weak.

dazai can’t believe that he was not only the cause of your sadness but is also the cause of your weakness. he wants to ask what happened, why are you crying like this, but he knows.

that’s always the problem, he knows.

so why is that he doesn’t know how to make this easier for you? why can’t he say anything? why is the only thing he can do right now is listen to you fall apart?

why can’t he just go to you and hold you in his arms like before?

is his inhumanity finally rearing its head? but why on you? you were the last person that deserved anything like that; hell, you don’t even deserve anything bad happening to you.

he forgot in his thoughts that those with bloodied hands suffer. the world doesn’t mind reminding him when he hears the scream of his only lover through the phone.

his late lover now that is.

-Is there a wip that you hate: This Warren lmao No, I kid. It's sometimes frustrating, but I don't hate it. It's more me being a butt and being a perfectionist and worrying that I'm not 'writing vtm vampires Correctly'. Do I have a wip I really hate...hm....

Actually, I HAD a wip I really, REALLY hated up until literally just last week when Berd helped me sort it out!

The lost boys long fic YCCM outline and working document. Since YCCM is an epistolary story - like Dracula, with the narration coming from characters writing journal entries and clippings and all other assortment of things - keeping the dates for everything in order is the MOST important thing. And in the beginning...it was all a mess. None of the dates matched across THREE FREAKIN' OUTLINES, OR IN THE WORKING DOCUMENT, I couldn't make heads or tails of it when I tried to look at it, and we have a calendar set up to detail the first part of the story, and THAT messed me up even further.

We ended up saying hang the dates, and just plotted out events and journal entries,and we decided we'd place them at dates at a later time. It helped so fucking much. I was about crying for literal real lmao.

-Is there a wip you may want to come back to: I have a couple! Berd is always thinking up new ideas, we basically have en entire folder full of oc story ideas that need building and refinement, that will likely get attention one day (if we can ever pull ourselves away from fanfiction lmao)

🧾 - The fictional world I would go to in a heartbeat is the place through the doors to the Starless Sea, from Erin Morgenstern's book of the same name. I have read that book many times and that world is completely enchanting. If I ever see a painted door I am trying the handle.

📔- Weirdly enough I don't often find myself relating to book characters at all on a personal level - but I will usually trust the protagonist's pov completely, even if it's unreliable narratorship. If they feel something, I will find that a completely reasonable thing to feel and be very sympathetic. Angst-ridden as it sounds, I suppose I would say I relate to Holden Caulfield, not through any of his actions or experiences at all, but simply because his way of talking sounds a fair bit like how I narrate things to myself in my head (minus the 50s slang of course).

📙 - A while ago I rearranged my bookshelf to make everything fit and realised I have a lot of fantasy, and that's a genre I like, so recommendations!

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. my absolute favourite 11/10 beautiful, about a young man who finds an event from his childhood, that he never told anyone about, written in a book older than he is and goes looking for the rest of the story.

Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon .800 page epic fantasy with dragons and lesbians, it's very dense but absolutely worth it, the prequel just came out as well.

I, Coriander by Sally Gardener. Technically a middle-grade book but actually very well written and pretty dark in some bits, about a young girl in Jacobean London whose fate is entwined with that of a fairy world.

Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake. This one is very strange. It's kind of obviously a fantasy but with no magic or dragons or elves or anything. about the lives of people in a sprawling, ancient castle and their rigorous traditions and frankly absurd personalities. Definitely not for everyone, sometimes I'm not even sure if I like it myself to be honest. The second one was better, haven't yet read the third.

And some graphic novels -

The Witch Boy by Molly Knox Ostertag & its sequels, a boy born into a magic family struggles to find himself and save his family, along with his friends.

Snapdragon by Kat Leyh. A young girl looking for her dog befriends the local witch, a motor-cycle riding butch lesbian who sells skeletons on the internet.

What book has had the biggest impact on your life, and why?

Probably the books that made the biggest impact on my life were [insert list of Astrid Lindgren's books], formative years and whatnot. If we're speaking of impacts made more recently, the answer is Klaus Mann's Mephisto. It was a third-eye-opened moment for me when I first read it five years ago. I've been returning to it due to ~ current events ~ and if it doesn't bring me comfort it at least brings me an explanation of what's happening.

What fictional world would you love to visit and explore if given the chance?

The city of Echo, from Max Frei's series "Labyrinths of Echo". In particular, I'd want to try all of the wonderfully described food.

Who is your all-time favorite author, and what makes their writing so special to you?

That's an unfair question! Favourite, in singular!? I'll slightly rephrase the questions: who is one of your favourite authors?

And to this new and improved question, I'll answer Ursula K. Le Guin. Her prose is beauuuuutiful. And her novels do a fantastic job of tackling difficult topics, discussing ugly things without gorey glory, somehow encapsulating the entire humanity in her relatively short novels.

"... So that's where my jacket went."

Naib's voice is nothing short of monotone as he makes the observation, his figure remaining entirely still as he stood in front of you—almost as though he were one of Galatea's infamous sculptures, only meant to replicate your lover instead of the angels and devils she often favored. Not that you weren't used to it, of course. Not that you'd failed to accomplish anything, either, if the tiny glimmer of mirth dancing within his muddled blue irises were anything to go by.

Without another word, his hand instinctively reaches out towards you, playing with the familiar article, a low hum slipping past his chapped lips as you informed him of your costume's inspiration. A zombie, you'd stated, a sense of pride within your voice, and he decides to reassess your appearance with the additional context in mind.

It certainly was convincing. The murky tones of the fabric, combined with the clothing you wore beneath—old, and torn, and stitched back together after particularly brutal matches—certainly did work to your advantage; enough so that he could almost ignore the memories of you laying within the infirmary, carried back on the shoulders of your other teammates.

That train of thought is interrupted, thankfully before he can go down the rabbit hole, by the sound of your voice. And while he isn't entirely certain what you'd just said, he takes the opportunity to pull away and catch himself, raking through his brain for memories of the custom. He's aware of what Halloween is—had to be, really—having been constantly exposed to all sorts of different holidays after deciding to join the army, though he'd never once had the chance to truly participate.

Something so leisurely would've only slowed him down, back then. Made a difficult job all the more unbearable. But now he was stuck within this God-forsaken manor where reality was flipped over on its head and time was easily the most bountiful resource he had, so it's not as if it'd hurt to indulge you.

He turns around, and you follow him into his room, taking a seat on the bed as moves towards a hole in the wall—a stash for anything he didn't want others to know about, including the bar of chocolate in his hand as he pushed the dresser back into place. You reach out towards him in order to relieve him of it, only for your eyes to widen as he snaps the confection in two.

The larger half is relinquished to you, mattress weighed down as he sits beside you, wasting no time in indulging within his share. There's another beat of silence. "For stealing my clothing." He murmurs, and you let out a small laugh, bringing your attention to your portion of the bar.

... Naib finds he might like Halloween a bit more than he'd originally assumed.

he, funnily, posted a selfie of himself at the same restaurant you were in your pictures. on the same day. with the same emoji of the japanese flag in your captions.

it wasn’t intentional — you didn’t even know who suguru was other than his name, and nor did he. the swimmer simply wished to announce his arrival at his home country after being away for a competition overseas. you wanted to show your followers how your trip was.

but now, because of a coincidence, and the speculative skills of both your fanbases, you were bound together by a contract.

“sugu? are you done yet?” your shout was followed by a long, nasal sigh. “we have a reservation in a few, and i don’t want to dine with you smelling like chlorine!”

the man glanced at the bleachers, still floating around in the pool to relax after his intense practice. he shone his brightest smile at your complaints, “coming right up!” suguru chuckled and lifted himself up.

“sugu?” his teammate pestered, tossing a towel at him. “that’s new. can i call you that too, my boo bear?”

“finally,” you walked up to your fake boyfriend, lightly slapping his buff arm. “we have an hour to be at the restaurant and we’re still here. can you hurry up?” you requested again. that reservation was the event of year to you, and due to yours and his social status, you managed to skip the waiting line. you wanted the raven-haired man to treat it as seriously as you.

suguru looked at you with a soft smile, dipping a kiss to your lips, “sorry, angel.” he mumbled into your mouth, towel thrown around his neck. his hand went to your waist whilst his wet body lightly pressed against your designer clothes, making you flinch in annoyance.

“keep saying sorry for the next ten years and maybe i’ll forgive you.” your grumble snatched a soft laugh out of him, and you hoped he’d hurry up and put on some clothes to leave the place. you didn’t have enough time to keep up with your routine of staring at his muscles at the moment.

“kay. sorry again,” using his free hand, he cupped your jaw to press a small peck to your temple and nose — totally unnecessary, but to suguru, every touch and caress was treated like a basic human need.

a huff escaped your lips, “whatever.” you gulped down all kinds of reaction to his affection and walked off to one of the benches nearby, waiting for your cue to leave.

the other athlete snickered, expression composed of a mix of comedic disgust and tenderness as he observed his friend stare at you with heart eyes, “you’re so in love it’s sickening to watch,” satoru shook his head to show his disappointment on the faux relationship (that he was well aware of).
