Prompt: "I don't care that you're hanging up lights, get off the roof!"
Pairing: Malleus Draconia x Gn!Reader/Prefect/Yuu
Genre: Fluff, Slight hurt/comfort
TW: Reader falls off a roof (but they're okay, don't worry)
Tumblr media
You were a brave human.
Malleus had made this assumption on your second meeting, when you graced him with that silly nickname that he now held so dear. The casual way you interacted with him may have stemmed from your ignorance regarding his true identity, but to see you continue to use it even after learning he was the heir apparent to Briar Valley had left him with a pleasant warmth in his chest and his cheeks.
He adored every part of you, including that bravery of yours that made him fall for you in the first place.
But dear Sevens, that bravery would be the death of him one day.
"Child of man," he called out to you, a mix of puzzlement and concern in his eyes, "what are you doing up on the roof?"
"Hornton!" You visibly brightened as you noticed him, waving your arm so vigorously at him that he feared you would fall from your place on top of Ramshackle's roof. Malleus took a step ahead, worry flashing in his eyes as he looked up at you.
"I'm hanging up some lights for the winter holidays! Ramshackle's gonna look nice and festive this winter," you spoke, showing him the bundle of wires with lights on them that you had next to you.
"Is it truly necessary?" He asked, acutely aware of the pain in his neck from looking up at you. Was this how you felt when you had to look up at him? Now, that would not do; he would have to find a way to make it so that you wouldn't feel any pain in your neck while looking up-
His train of thought was derailed by the sight of you leaning forward almost dangerously. "I'm gonna be fine, don't worry," you told him, a carefree smile on your face.
"Child of man, Ramshackle has no need to be decorated. It is beautiful just the way it is," and so are you, went unsaid. Malleus took a step closer, talking softly and gently, trying to coax you to come down. "Please, come down before you hurt yourself."
"You worry too much Mal-Mal, I'll be fiNE-"
In your attempt to reassure him, you had taken a step ahead on the roof, slipping and getting your leg tangled in the wire.
Malleus' heart nearly stopped as he saw you fall. He casted a spell almost immediately, catching you mid-air with his magic before letting you down onto the ground carefully.
Your legs gave out beneath you from almost falling to your death, and you sat heavily on the ground. Malleus rushed to you, quickly kneeling to check you for any injuries, even though he had saved you with his magic. You rested your hands on his biceps, trembling slightly due to the adrenaline coursing through your veins as you allowed him to look you over.
After making sure you were alright, he pulled you into a hug, his larger frame hiding you from view as he held you close to his chest. You held onto him just as tightly, and for the next few minutes you both just sat in silence, holding onto each other and thinking of what could have happened had he not been there.
"Now I understand what Lilia meant when he used to say that Silver and I would shave years off his lifespan whenever we went off into the forest without letting him know," he said after a few tense moments, voice slightly shaky. Your hands held on tighter at his words, feeling guilty. One of his hands curled protectively over your head, while the other rested on your back.
"I-" your throat felt dry, tight. You couldn't get your words out, even as Malleus waited for you to finish your reply. So you settled on squeezing him tight, trying to make him feel your apology for scaring him when you couldn't put it in words.
"Next time, please allow me to do this sort of thing for you, my dear. Even with how long my life is sure to be, I would rather not deal with such stress ever again," he told you gently, smiling when you nodded, your face hidden against him.
He picked you up, and took you inside Ramshackle, your plans of decorating the roof left for another day.

I was really in the mood to do some masquerade fanart, but I didn’t feel like coming up with anything original, so here’s some of my favorite (...slightly paraphrased) bits from the first part. I don’t know where it’s going, but it’s pretty fun so far!
also one that isn’t canon except in my heart:

I bet when Silver was very small he just called Malleus by name but eventually someone told him that they’re supposed to address him with a title and he stopped and Malleus, whose whole thing is that his status and strength have prevented him from forming meaningful attachments with most people and he feels isolated because of it, went home and didn’t come out of his room for three days.

Lovers' Lookout (Malleus x GN!Reader)
Tumblr media
“How does one choose?” Malleus thought to himself, chin held by his thumb and forefinger. His gaze was set upon the menu before him - the one listing all the ice cream flavors available, to be exact. They took up the whole half of the board, each one just as good as the other. The fae had stood there for a while now, perplexed on how to choose just one. It was too bad they didn’t have a way to sample every one.
“Do you have a favorite flavor?” you asked, neck craned up to look at him.
“I have a few,” he replied. “I wish to try something new, however.”
“Well, which one looks most interesting?”
“All of them.” Well, that sure helped, didn’t it. “There are some I have not heard of till now, such as caf…caf-ee..”
“Café au lait?”
“Yes, that one.” He looked at you as though you held all the knowledge in the world. “What is it?”
“It’s a type of coffee,” you said. “It’s pretty good! I think you’d like it.”
“Hm,” Malleus contemplated some more, then pointed down at one of the ice cream tubs behind the glass counter. “And what is that?”
“Mmn…” You looked up at the menu to try and figure that out yourself. “Cotton candy, I think.” You pointed to the two adjacent to it. “I think those two are blue moon and banana split.”
“Blue moon?” Malleus tilted his head in question - he looked almost like a cat.
You shrugged your shoulders, “I don’t know why they call it that. It’s pretty good though; Cater had me try it a little while ago.”
Malleus nodded, once again in contemplation. He seemed to grow more frustrated by the minute. He couldn’t choose just one! He’d suggested buying one of each, but you reminded him what happened the last time he did that: brain freeze central. At least Lilia got a good laugh out of it. Just then, an idea popped into your head. You tugged on the sleeve of Malleus’s bodysuit to get his attention.
“Would you like me to choose for you?”
Those chartreuse eyes sparkled as though out of your mouth came the most brilliant idea in the world. “You can do that?”
You laughed at his question. “Yes! It’s not like they’ll get mad if I do.”
A small pout formed on the dragon’s lips as he mumbled to himself. “As though such a scolding would frighten me.” You knew it wouldn’t - but it’d probably make him feel like the size of an ant. That pout turned into a smile as he nodded. “I trust in your choice, Child of Man.”
Your smile widened as he gave his trust to you, as he often did. You gave his wrist a small squeeze before you released it and walked up to the man at the counter. You didn’t have to think much - you knew exactly what flavor to get. Once you handed the man your madol, you stepped back to let him work. You peered up to see Malleus had yet another pout on his face. “I told you I would pay for them,” he said.
“I know.” You gave his arm a small pat. “But you always buy stuff for me; I want to get you things when I can.”
You knew the notion was silly - Malleus had more money than you could dream. Even so, you loved to get him little things every now and again, whatever you could afford. It wasn’t just because you wanted to, but because you loved the expressions he wore whenever you came to him with those little presents and treats. He always looked like a kid on Christmas for how excited he was! What you didn’t see, however, was the soft look in his eyes when you walked back to get your ice cream. Would you ever know how much he adored you…
You thanked the man at the counter before you walked back to Malleus. As you handed Malleus his milkshake (he’d wanted to try it instead of an ice cream cone), he eyed it curiously. “What kind did you get me?”
Nothing was given away as you grinned. “You’ll just have to try it and find out!” Before he could, you took his wrist gently and began to pull him along with you. “Let’s sit outside - it’s so pretty out!”
“Yes,” Malleus’s gaze was centered on you as he spoke, “it certainly is.”
That soft gaze, once again, was unnoticed by you as you opened the door out onto the parlor’s shaded patio. You sat yourselves at a small table in the corner, which overlooked the beach below. It was such a wonderful day outside - it wasn’t too hot, and there was a constant cool breeze. The sound of the waves crashing onto shore in the distance filled your ears, and the smell of the salty sea mixed with that of the creamy treat before you. Your eyes fixed on Malleus as he adjusted himself in his chair. It was still a little odd to see him in such casual beach attire: a black bodysuit hugged his torso, while below he wore black swim trunks with green highlights and a pair of black sandals. Aside from the horns atop his head and the slits of his pupils, he appeared like any normal man at the beach.
You watched as he brought the straw of his milkshake to his lips. He sucked in a small bit of the ice cream that came up the thin tube; to your delight, his eyes widened in surprise as a wide smile crossed his lips. “This is wonderful!” His gaze settled on you, once again resembling an excited child. “What is it?”
“[Favorite flavor]!” His smile was contagious, for you soon found yourself grinning. “It’s my usual go-to. I’m so happy you like it!”
As you sipped your own milkshake and relished the cream on your tongue, Malleus let out a soft chuckle. “Thus why I said I place my complete trust in your decisions.” He leaned forward, arms folded in front of him on the table. He looked so casual like this…you could almost forget he was a prince. “You never cease to amaze me, Child of Man~”
His gaze was intense - you couldn’t help but shy away as your cheeks reddened. Malleus did not tease you for it, simply releasing another chuckle before he, too, took another sip of his milkshake. Then he took another, and another…and another. You quickly swallowed your own gulp as you protested, “Malleus, don’t drink it so fast! You’ll get another brain freeze!”
Immediately, Malleus ceased his persistent slurping. His eyes went wide as he stalled in the action, as though Lilia’s laughs from the past incident echoed in his head. He swallowed down the gulp in his mouth and let out a deep exhale, then sat down the styrofoam cup on the table. “I apologize, I…got too carried away by the taste, I suppose.”
You giggled, “It’s okay, Mal.” You reached out and took his hand from across the table. The shining green pools that were his eyes locked with yours as you spoke to him softly. “You were just excited, that’s all. There’s no shame in that - I think it’s cute.”
There was no magic in the world that could hide the pink that ghosted Malleus’s pale cheeks. His pupils dilated like a cat’s would, which only amplified his adorableness. Soon, he smiled from ear to ear and gave your hand a gentle squeeze. His voice held all the affection in the world for you. “Thank you, [Y/n].” Malleus didn’t speak your name too often…it was nice to hear it again. His eyes narrowed in amusement as he added one other thought, “I find you just as endearing, if not more~”
It was your turn to blush. A deep chuckle rumbled in his chest as he watched you shy away from his gaze and take another sip of your milkshake. As you leaned back in your chair, so did he; as your hands parted, Malleus replaced the contact by brushing his foot with yours. The next few minutes were filled with idle chatter, mostly about what the two of you should do next. Before a decision could be made, there came a loud voice somewhere in the distance - it made you and Malleus abruptly turn your heads in that direction.
“Wakasama!!”
Oh Seven, here he comes! Both you and Malleus’s hearts sunk at the thought of Sebek finding you, Silver likely in tow. Malleus turned to you with panicked eyes, as though to ask you for another idea. Sadly, you had none. There was nowhere to hide; you couldn’t run either, as the only way to was in Sebek’s direction. You didn’t want your time alone with Malleus to end so soon - you both spent long enough trying to get away!
In a flash, Malleus bolted up from his chair. It slammed against the railing of the patio as he stepped around the table and over to you. Suddenly, his milkshake was shoved into your arms. You clutched both of yours as you looked up at Malleus for an answer as to what he was doing. “Hold tight to the milkshakes,” he said. A yelp left your lips as he lifted you out of the chair and into his arms, grip on you firm yet gentle. “If you get scared, close your eyes; know I will not drop you.”
Before you could ask anything, Malleus jumped clear over the patio. You forgot how high he could jump. A scream tugged at your throat, but you kept it in for fear of Sebek hearing you. As gravity set in and you both began to fall to the ground far below, you did as Malleus said and closed your eyes. For a moment, you were in a freefall. The wind licked at your skin, whipped your hair; you gripped the drinks tightly, but not too strong for fear of the styrofoam giving way. The moment Malleus’s feet hit the ground, he took off running into the brush.
When you opened your eyes again, it was as though you were in a car. Palm trees passed by you in a flash, vision blurry as Malleus raced to find a spot to hide. Finally, after a few minutes of searching, he’d found it. You didn’t quite know where you were; you seemed to be somewhere in the hills, for how far away the waves were now. How fast had Malleus been going?! That question quickly fluttered out of your mind as you took in the view before you. It was no short of breathtaking.
The sea glittered like a gemstone in the sunlight; the beach resembled a bed of silken gold; the little figures of people in the town below bustled about like ants on parade. The scene was framed by the vegetation around you, little trees and large bushes of different types. Malleus gently knelt down onto the grassy hill that overlooked the area and sat you beside him, just as another cool breeze blew.
“It will take some time for anyone to find us here.” He gently took his milkshake from your hand and got comfortable on the grass. “At least, I hope so.”
At first, words were lost to you. Your eyes still took in the view, breath still thoroughly stolen from you. Malleus glanced down at you, then out at the world beyond your hiding spot, then back at you again. A triumphant smirk played on his lips, “I trust this spot is to your liking?”
“It’s…it’s beautiful,” you breathed out. You pried your gaze from the outlook to focus on him. “Have you been to this spot before?”
“I have not.” He sipped his milkshake before he continued, “I simply came upon it while we ran; I thought it was out of the way enough, and that it would please you.”
You smiled and nodded. “It does.” You giggled as you thought about the escape you two just made. “Just…next time, if you can, warn me before you go off sprinting one hundred miles an hour.”
Malleus let out a small laugh. “If time should present, rest assured that I will.”
The two of you sat in silence for a short while, simply taking in the view as you enjoyed each other's company. Without thinking, you scooted closer to Malleus and leaned your head against his bicep. His eyes widened and he glanced over at you, just as you glanced up at him. Your smile, the twinkle of your eye, how the sun hit your skin through the shaded natural overlook…had his heart ever beat so fast?
“Thank you for spending the day with me, Malleus. I know we’ll spend more time together in the future, but…this. I’ll never forget this.”
Malleus felt his heart swell; it felt as though his soul would ascend from his body and offer itself to you. Should you request it, he would hand over both happily, for you already held them in the palm of your hand. He took that palm as he smiled and gave your hand a loving squeeze. “Nor will I, [Y/n].”
There was so much more he wanted to say, but for now he kept it to himself. He could tell you another day - for now, he simply sat with you on that grassy hill, in your secret hideaway, and basked in the moment. The two of you were unaware of the crimson eyes that watched you, high above in one of the trees, knees bent in a crouch as to keep himself from being seen. It wasn’t hard to track the two of you down - he’d spotted you both on the patio minutes before. As he lingered there, the man smiled, fangs poking out as he let out the quietest chuckle of delight. Adorable, the both of you. Ah, how wonderful the throes of young love could be.
Lilia quietly climbed out of the tree and left the two of you alone to bask in that unspoken love.

Prompt: The story about a prince and a traveller <3
Pairing: Malleus x Gn!Reader (Yuu)
Genre: Slight angst (?), Fluff I dunno
TW: Uh, although this is GN! Reader, the reader or Prefect or Yuu is referred to as "Mama" at one point in this. It is meant to be a gender neutral form of address (but if there is another form of address that is more fitting in the scenario please let me know), minor character death, heavily based on Orpheus and Eurydice's story.
Tumblr media
AN: Not really happy with the ending of this, but its been in my drafts for far too long. It would have been more angsty, but my sister (who I usually make read my fics to check if it sounds coherent and/or is good) as well as my friends who I showed the initial draft to said that it would be too cruel and that I should make it a happy ending so here we are! Hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
One upon a time, there used to live a prince.
The prince was the heir of a prosperous kingdom. His wise eyes looked over his subjects with the love of a friend and the vigilance of a father. All he ever wanted was for his kingdom to flourish and grow, for his people to live happy lives. And he worked hard to ensure their protection, so that they may spread their wings under his watchful gaze and soar to new heights, bringing honor and prestige to their kingdom. In turn, the people of the kingdom loved and respected him, singing his praises to the birds in the sky and the flowers blooming in the soil. There was no one in the kingdom who would speak ill of their prince, for he was beloved by all.
But, the prince was lonely. He had loving friends to lean on, and trusted elders to learn from, but his heart yearned for that one person who would transform his happy yet monotonous days into pure bliss. His one true love.
And how fortunate was he to find it, in the most unexpected of places, at the most unassuming of times.
He found his solace, his refuge in a traveler from far, far away. It was love at first sight, though the prince would come to realize it much, much later.
The traveler was an intriguing, mysterious figure; quickly endearing themself to each person they came to know. Many vied for their hand, for their affections, yet their eyes seemed to sparkle for only one; the prince.
After many trials and tribulations the two were finally able to be at each other's side. The prince took the mysterious traveler as his spouse, his to love and nurture and adore forevermore. Yet such bliss, was fated to be short-lived.
Death came calling soon, far too soon for the traveler. No matter how much effort the prince expended to save his beloved, their life slipped through his fingers like grains of sand.
The prince was stricken with grief. He mourned for the untimely loss of his pride and joy, and his people mourned alongside him. His heartfelt cries and pleas reached the heavens, moving the hearts of the Great Seven themselves.
One day, the prince was visited by the Thorn Fairy in his dreams. "Child, I have heard your prayers. Your devotion to your beloved is commendable, but the other side can often be cruel. It is best if you let those who have left rest where they rightfully belong, for the price to bring them back is often steep. Are you willing to do anything to have your beloved by your side once again?"
"Anything," the prince replied, with a conviction that moved the fae's heart. The fae sighed, and said, "Very well. If your love is true, and your decision final, then I shall not stand in your way. But be warned; one misstep, and your love will be lost forever. Do not look behind, for nothing exists there except regret."
The prince woke up in a dark cave, the Thorn Fairy's last words ringing in his ears. A warning, and a hint.
The prince followed his instincts; standing up and walking towards the small pinprick of light he could see in the distance. The floor of the cave was damp and cold. It seemed as if the shadows were clinging on to his legs, beckoning him to stay, to rest a while, but the prince continued moving ahead.
After what seemed like hours, (for the prince could not say if time was passing or if it was frozen. All he could do was walk and walk and walk-) the prince heard footfalls of another person, walking behind him. A voice called out to him, the tone so timid and fearful than he had ever heard it be, yet unmistakable. It was the voice of his beloved traveler, his most adored spouse.
The prince nearly turned to look at them, wishing to see what state they were in. He barely caught himself from doing it at the very last minute, remembering the fae's warnings.
Do not look behind, for nothing exists there except regret.
The prince kept walking ahead resolutely, one foot placed in front of the other with a haste. His heart beat wildly inside his chest, as if it was trying to escape its bony prison. The footsteps of his beloved echoed louder as they followed him. They called out to him again, hoping, perhaps, to get a reply; to get a confirmation that their love had truly come for them. But the prince did not answer, in fear of being tempted to look behind. Silently, he walked on ahead, his gaze trained on the light that seemed to get bigger and brighter as he walked towards it. Only a little more, and then...!
His beloved's voice grew frantic the longer he did not reply to their calls. The prince, in his hurry to reach the light and reclaim his beloved, had started walking faster, much faster than they could keep up. So they ran behind him, calling out to him. And fell, just as the prince took one step out of the cave.
The pained hiss that left his beloved's lips was the last straw for the prince. He turned, his eyes widening as the figure of his beloved knelt inside the cave, so close yet so far away from the sunlight, from him.
"No, no, no, no!" The prince exclaimed, falling to his knees and letting out an anguished wail as he wrapped his arms around his beloved. His beloved, who was gradually crumbling away into dust. Even so, they had a calm smile on their face, their hands coming up to cup his cheeks.
"I love you," was all they said, before they returned back to eternal rest.
...
Malina pouted, her hands resting on her father's shoulders as she looked up at him with wide teary eyes. Maleah, her twin, sat beside her on their father's lap, frowning as she asked, "Why did the traveler not return to the prince? He was out of the cave, was he not?"
Malleus gave his two children a gentle smile. "He may have been out of the cave, but the traveler was not. He turned back before they could take a step into the sunlight," he explained to her patiently, eyes shining with amusement as he watched her frown get deeper.
Malina sniffled, her big teary eyes sending a stab of concern through him, and Malleus held her closer. "But that's not fair..." she whined, hiding her face in the crook of his neck.
"What's going on?"
"Mama!"
The two little girls scampered off his lap, making their way to their other parent who picked them up with a confused yet fond smile on their face. "Father was telling us the story of the prince and the traveler," Malina said as she wrapped her short arms around their neck.
They narrowed their eyes at Malleus as they held the little princesses in their arms.
"Malleus."
Malleus chuckled, the sound soft and slightly hesitant as he made his way to where the three of them were standing. "Apologies, my beloved," he said in a soothing tone, his hand rising to tuck a wayward strand of hair back in its place, hoping that the loving gesture would take away some of their anger.
"We will be having a talk about this later," they huffed, and Malleus nodded, placing a gentle kiss on their forehead.
He watched as they brought the young girls back to their bed, settling the little ones and promising to tell them a better bedtime story than the one their father had told. Malleus smiled as he sat behind them, his arms wrapping around their waist loosely while he placed his chin on their shoulder. A soft rumble left his chest when they raised their hand to run their fingers through his hair as they regaled the two sleepy girls with tales of knights and princesses.
Soon Malina and Maleah drifted off into sleep, holding each other close. Yuu sighed, a fond smile playing on their lips as they looked at their children.
"Hornton."
Malleus pressed his lips against the nape of their neck and smiled. "Yes, my dear child of man?"
"You are a menace," they chuckled, and Malleus smiled.
"Perhaps."
They hummed, the sound light and sweet as it carried into the otherwise silent room.
"One day, they will learn that it was all a true story," they said.
"I believe they would like our version much better, when the time comes," he mumbled against their shoulder, the great dragon fae being lulled to sleep by his beloved's soft voice.
"Definitely, Hornton. Definitely."
