First time with Reiner Braun ❤
Fem X Reiner
This is a little different. I wrote it so you can insert yourself or an OC.
Warnings: NSFW. 18+ Smut and Fluff.
A/N: Slight Canon divergent as Cadets take place when they’re in their late teens/early twenties. Other than that, it’s all the same.
Tumblr media
Reiner had been acting weird all day; but [Name] couldn’t really blame him.
The last time they were alone together, they’d ended up locking mouths in a steamy kiss. They hadn’t spoken about it since – they hadn’t really had the chance.  Between training and having their classmates around it was a perfect cover to avoid a potentially awkward conversation.  When Shadis announced that for this exam, they would be teamed up together, they had both internally groaned.
Well, it was going to happen eventually. They’d had another two years of training, they were bound to wind up alone together again at some point. They’d both made sure that during the entire hike, they didn’t let one silence befall the conversation, which would force them to talk about the inevitable subject of their heated kiss.
It was quite comical, actually.
Constant talking either about their task, their friends or at one point even pondered and speculated if a person got a sunburn in front of a cannibal; would the cannibal start watering at the mouth?
Anything to not talk about the kiss.
It’d been a whole week since the incident and it wasn’t like they didn’t want to address it. They just didn’t want to know the others thought on the matter.  They’d both had serious reservations about it; they were totally focused on training and not fooling around.
And yet...
The kiss only fanned the flames of the huge crush Reiner has had on her since day one. The crush that, over the last thirteen months, had developed into something a lot deeper.
He’d kill for her.
He thought about that only earlier when she made a joke about something and it really tickled him to the core; resulting in a loud belly laugh. So, when the sun was starting to set and they had found a good place to camp for the night... that was when things would inevitably go south.
“Hey Ba- uh, [Name] ?” Reiner called out in a chilled horror. Not only from the slip of the tongue, but also what he had discovered in their shared backpack.
[Name] was only a few feet away, starting a campfire when a small laugh left her sweet lips.
“Did you almost call me Bertolt?”
No. I almost called you “babe”
“Uh, yeah. Sorry. But we have a problem.”
“What is it?” she frowned, heading over.
He pulled a large, folded bit of material out of the pack.
“...We only have one tent.”
She looked at him like he spoke another language.
“So? It’s not the first time we’ve had to share a tent with a partner during training. I had to share one with Jean last year.”
I bet Jean would have loved that...
It was a running joke amongst the men about when they had to share sleeping quarters with the women, and how they’d lie on the very edge, all limbs tucked in and never once touching them for fear of a testosterone induced erection.
“Yeah, but I’m a big guy.” He lied, not once being concerned about that at all.
“Get over yourself.” She chuckled, nudging him playfully as she returned to what she was doing.
Reiner solemnly obeyed and began to set up the tent, his frown pulling at his face the entire time.  He will not get any sleep – being so close to... her. Alone... Miles away from anyone.
After they’d kissed.
He swallowed hard as he fumbled with the poles, wanting to be out of this situation.
Reiner Braun was desperately in love with this woman and he was supposed to be keeping away. If they kiss again, he’s a total goner. There would be no way he could reject her if she reciprocated his feelings even in the slightest. Luckily, their kiss had been interrupted so he didn’t know how she truly felt. He thought that if he never knew, it’s a problem he would never have to face.
His fingers clumsily began to fix things together;  [Name] already having the fire going and preparing dinner.
His eyes almost began to water at the thought that he was about to get her famous, amazing cooking.
Sasha had been furious he was paired with her.
His chest tightened and his head became fuzzy. He wished he didn’t have to be in such a complicated situation; he would just ask her to marry him already.
“You need help?” her voice called over after he dropped the pole fixtures for the third time.
“Huh? Uh, no I got it.” He wavered a hand dismissively without turning around.
What the hell am I going to do? He panics in silence.
Eventually the sun had set and the tent was erected, the two of them sitting by the fire after they’d eaten. The warm orange glow of the flames encased them cosily as Reiner sat back and patted his stomach in awe.
“Amazing. As always.” He smiled. “Thank you.”
“I’m glad you liked it.” She beamed beautifully.
Surrounded by the trees under the stars and being embraced by the warm glow of the flames; [Name] now began to feel weird about their intimate moment they’d had.  It wasn’t very often they had time alone and her feelings for him remained the same since.
They sat back, gazing up at the stars in a comfortable silence.
“It feels like we haven’t stargazed in forever.” [Name] commented quietly. “I bet Marco is looking at them now too.”
“Yeah, he will be.” Reiner marvelled.
Another silence.
He noticed she had been pretty quiet since they began relaxing by the fire.
[Name] was wondering why he hadn’t mentioned the kiss. He’d had plenty of time now.
Maybe he regrets it?
She bit her lip at the thought, her eyes lowering to the flames sadly. God, he’d grown on her a hell of a lot and she resented that fact. It hurt to think he didn’t feel the same.
Reiner noticed this.
Shit, she looks sad. Is it because he hadn’t mentioned the kiss? Should he ask her? There’s no way he would ever stand for her feeling down, let alone because of him.
What the hell should I do?!
His brain hurt. More so, his heart.
She flinched a little in surprise when he slowly creeped his hand across the ground and intentionally skimmed his skin across her fingers. He didn’t look at her though. It was his way of sending an impossible telepathic message of; Don’t be sad. I can’t say it but God, I love you.
She, however, assumed it was an accident.
Ah hell. I’m going to have to mention it. I can’t see her feeling down.
He took a deep breath.
“You alright? You look a little down.” His usual façade of serious, concerned solider coming out.
“Oh? I’m fine.” She lied.
He knew she was lying. He knew her too well.
“It looks like it’s going to rain though.” She noticed the thick clouds that were rolling in, beginning to block their view of the stars. “We should get some sleep.”
“R-right.” Reiner nodded, deflated.
He didn’t know what he expected. His heart, body and soul ached for her lips against his again, but his mind screamed to stop being an idiot.
As she went inside to get ready for bed, he stood and began to snuff out the flames of the fire, along with any hope he’d had of being with the woman he was so desperately in love with.
----
Sure enough, as they lay facing away from one another, the sounds of soft pattering began to tap the tent above their heads. They lay back-to-back with as big of a gap between them as possible; what the small tent would allow anyway. Reiner’s arms were tucked up around his chest and his eyes were wide.
[Name] had her limbs tucked away too but that was for a different reason – as always when she camped out, she was freezing. It didn’t matter the season. As soon as that sun sank below the horizon, her body temperature would drop.
Reiner on the other hand was like a big insulated heater, sleeping in just his underwear under his sleeping bag. His heart thudded harshly against his large chest.
She’s just there! Kiss her! Talk to her! Tell her how you feel...
He’d been close to telling her a few times over the course of the last month or so. He couldn’t help it. Even before they shared that kiss, his feelings would bubble up to the surface and almost spew out of his mouth. He’d always managed to stop himself though, although it was getting increasingly more difficult each time.
She was just so... perfect.
Not only was she extremely attractive and half of his classmates wanted her, but she was strong. Smart. Funny. Caring... His eyes closed in a frown as he listed the endless attributes he loved about her in his head. He was fighting a losing battle, and he knew it.
Bertolt. Annie. Marcel. I’m sorry. I tried... I really did.
He glanced back and that’s when he noticed her curled up in a ball, shivering.
His eyebrows furrowed.  “...You cold?”
“Y-yeah.”
He instantly turned onto his side to face her, his sleeping bag rustling against the fabric of the tent.
“You should have said something. ‘C mere.”
With a sigh he sat up and began unzipping her sleeping bag.
“What are you doing?” her teeth chatted.
“Helping you warm up. I doubt you wanna get sick and miss training.”
She averted her eyes away from him when he unzipped his bag and fastened them together into a double. She knew he slept in his shorts.
Her breath caught in her throat when he wrapped his big, strong arms around her and pulled her back against his warm chest, heat rolling off him and encasing her like a huge bear was holding her. His scent rolled off him and embraced her sense of smell, relaxing her immediately.
He kept his pelvis away from her, his manhood already stirring awake and he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable.
“T-thank you.” She whispered, still trembling.
“Don’t mention it.” He sighed, silently kicking himself.
I definitely won’t be getting any sleep now.
Her heart almost stopped when his head rested and lay between her neck and shoulder, his hot breath blanketing her skin. Rushes of unexpected heat ran down her body to in-between her legs and seemed to just pool there.
His brows furrowed behind her; inhaling her intoxicating scent silently.
Although he was trying his hardest not to brush his hips against her, he still felt so comfortable having her in his arms like this, like she was supposed to be in them. He was meant to protect her. To care for her. To love her.
His mind fluttered back to how he’d almost told her he loved her before. He’d hinted so hard but she just looked at him like he was crazy, not understanding what he was trying to tell her. When he was around [Name], it was like all of his troubles just melted away. Colours seemed brighter, his worries were brushed aside and life was just... amazing. She made him laugh, he could tell her anything (almost) and she always knew what to say to make him feel better after a particularly rough day. But to him, the best part of it all was how excited she got him for the future. One that was bleak and full of sorrow was spun upside down and into a promising one, brimming with all possibilities.
“I have something to tell you.” He said softly, not able to stop himself this time.
Maybe it was being this close to her that sent him over the edge. Or maybe it made it easier that she was facing away from him.
“Hm?” she hummed softly; her eyes closed and enjoying the warm embrace.
“...I love you.”
That was it. It was out.
There was no way to suck those words back into his lungs.
The tense, pregnant silence within the tent was only filled by the light tapping of the rain against the material that covered them.
He felt her tense in surprise, her eyes flying open.
She swivelled around to face him, her eyes searching his narrow golden orbs for any sign of deception.
But there wasn’t any.
A crimson flush washed over his cheeks.
“I... I mean, you know –” he began before she silenced him by pressing her lips against his.
Both of their eyebrows pulled back as if pleading above closed eyes, his hand cupping her face, thrilled to be kissing her once more.
She pulled away, her own pink hue colouring her face.
“You... Love me?” she asked, her voice soft and sweet.
He pressed his head against hers, closing his eyes and nodding.
“ [Name] , I’m crazy about you.” He whispered in honesty. “I always have been.”
“...How crazy?” she teased, trying to tear away any awkwardness or negative feelings in his confession.
He smirked. She knows just how to make him comfortable.
He grinned slyly, looking in her eyes.
“Oh, absolutely insane. I should be getting carted away to the asylum, with Sasha and her potatoes behind me.”
She laughed beautifully, her heart swelling with joy. Even from that dumb little exchange, confirmed to her that she definitely felt the same.
“So, you don’t regret that kiss...? Last week?”
“Of course not.” He replied, eyes returning to a desperate pleading. “I was just having a hard time accepting that I’ve come to cadets to be a soldier and.... Ended up meeting the woman I wanna marry.”
Every word that left his lips felt like a warm pleasant jab to her heart.
“You... Wanna marry me?” She whispers, totally blown away from the intensity of this confession.
“I do.” He admitted shyly. “You don’t deserve anything less. It’s just how I feel... Sorry”
“You know...” she whispered shyly. “It’s more efficient to share body heat when you’re both naked.”
His eyes enlarged and breath caught in his throat.
“That’s if... You’d want to.” She added adorably.
“Are you sure?” he whispered, praying she would say yes.
She nodded in reply.
“I want you, Reiner.” She breathed. “I love you too. I want... you to make me yours. I want to be yours.”
Reiner was bombarded with emotion.
Elation. Excitement. Arousal.
Not to mention he was beginning to wonder if this were a dream. If he were going to cruelly wake up next to Bertolt and his weird sleeping positions.
There’d been countless times he’s imagined her utter those words in his head; sometimes while stroking his own cock.
He’d lost count how many times he’d furiously tugged himself while she occupied his mind. But as his feelings for her deepened, it became less and less so; guilt always creeping into his conscience. He just respected her too much.
He propped himself up on his elbow, running his now trembling fingers through her hair.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” He breathes.
“You won’t.” She shook her head. “I mean, it’s okay if you don’t want to, I under –”
He put his arms under the sleeping bag with great speed and shuffled a little, before pulling his shorts out and throwing them to the side.
She let out a laugh when he returned to his original position with haste.
He returned her laugh, rubbing his nose against hers.
“Okay...” she muttered shyly. “Look over there for a moment”
He turned around obediently as she began to nervously undress under the now warm sleeping bag.
All he could hear under the movement of her undressing herself was his heart pounding in his head.
There’s no way this is real and happening.
His cock was already hard at the thought of her undressing inches away from him. His previous reservations about being teamed up with her were quickly washed away as she threw her clothes to the side, before nestling back down and hiding under the cover.
“Alright... You can come back.” She informs him.
At the speed of a firing bullet, he turned back around; painfully keeping his eyes glued to hers.
His arm flinched, about to pull her back into his embrace but he hesitated.
“Are... you sure?” He asked again, not able to believe the situation.
“Yes.” She giggled, nervously.
His eyes enlarged and jaw slackened when he felt her satin soft skin against his, her bare breasts pressing against his hard chest and her lower stomach and groin against his solid erection.
A gasp parted her lips as she felt, not only how hard he was, but how big.
His arms snaked around her, his narrow orbs keeping their gaze onto her orbs as he pulled her now naked form against his.
“R-Reiner...” she couldn’t help but stammer, her face heating up as well as her insides.
A pink hue raises over his cheeks, not having really thought through the situation. He was nervous. He was excited. He was close to hyperventilating.
Her lips softly press against Reiner’s once more, her fingers grazing across his scalp, her breathing heavy and needing.
His arm snakes around her stomach, his brow pulled down and creased while his nose pushes out a blow of air, his heart hammering and his cock leaking with pre-cum. She could feel it weeping against her flesh as it throbbed and danced against her lower stomach.
She pulls back for a moment; “Reiner. Only take me if you’re going to cherish me. This won’t be a one time thing for me...”
He catches her gaze, lips parted and eyes still hungry. “Of course. I meant what I said.”
She smiles - elated at his words as she returns her kiss, her hands roaming his ridged, solid muscles.
His mouth moves down to her neck, slow and tender kisses - each one sending jolts of searing hot electric through her entirety. Reiner’s breath is deep; quivering and panting as he tries to hold back his eagerness and excitement.
“I’ve wanted you for so long...” He groans, his large palm pushing her arm above her head as he hovers over her a little, his fingers interlocking with her own, still kissing her deeply.
The pink hue across his face was deepening to more of a crimson, his eyes heavy lidded and jaw slack the entire time. The way he kisses her is with such compassion, such tenderness. He grazes his large nose against hers, hands caress her hair as he keeps himself steady over her, before gingerly rolling on top of her completely, keeping himself suspended with his forearms.
He made sure every single graze, every grope was as gentle as possible - afraid of his lumbering huge form would somehow break her as they explored one another’s bodies, their tongues entwining in a slow dance within their mouths. Deep, short groans vibrated his throat and chest from time to time, and not once did that furrowed look of desperation leave his face.
The only sounds that could be heard was their kisses, whines and groans as well as their laboured breath and the pattering of rain against the tent.
He suddenly stops their kiss, placing his head against hers and rubbing his large thumb across her cheek, back and forth.
“I’m happy to just do this.” He breathes, wanting to prove to her that he really was just so happy she felt the same. “We don’t have to do anything else.”
“I want to...” She replies, the snake coiled within her wrapped far too tightly to be ignored now. “I want you to make me yours. That’s...if you’d like.”
He nods - returning his kiss, his top lip folding as his lusted haze results in him missing his mark slightly. God it was hard for him not to touch her between her legs. But he’s a gentleman. He didn’t want to unless he knew one hundred per cent that she was sure.
Taking his fingertips, he nervously and slowly grazes them down her stomach to her pubic bone, pausing before taking a leap of courage - his calloused pads grazing down her clitoris and to her soaked lips.
They both gasp at the sensation. The feeling of his warm, large fingers against her most intimate area was indescribable. And for him, her thick slick was heavenly.
“Is this all for me...?” He whispers in awe and disbelief, his shoulder flexing with his movements as he continues to slowly stroke her.
She nods, biting her lip.
“Sh~~~it.” He swallows hard, eyes closing for a moment before returning to hers. “It’s my first time. I won’t last long.”
“I don’t care.” She groans, pulling him by his head for another deep kiss.
As much as he wanted to enter her, he refused to allow himself. Instead his lips trail down her body, her eyes locked onto his broad back flexing with every tiny movement as his head moves, his lips connecting with every inch of skin it could find - his hands gently rubbing and massaging - memorising every single gasp from her mouth. Every hitch of breath. He would remember where he’d been when she made those noises and made sure he damn well took it all in.
“Reiner, I can’t take it.” She eventually moans, writhing beneath him, fingers running through her own hair. “I need you. Please...”
He instantly returns to her face, cupping it and his muscular back hunches - his free hand grabbing the large base of his shaft.
“You ready for me, baby?” He breathes.
She nods.
He lines up his gleaming head before pushing gently, her tiny entrance being invaded by him as he hisses, her back bending with a loud moan.
“ [Name]...” He whimpers, totally overwhelmed both with physical stimulation and emotion.
He pushes again, a little firmer his head popping in past the first hurtle.
“You okay?” He asks, sounding like he’s just finished sprinting a whole cross-country race.
“Yeah...”
He pushes again, her tight insides slowly ingesting him like a snake with a large meal - her ridges massaging him as they spasm with glee around him - his moans now a lot louder than before as he jitters to a stop at the hilt.
“Fuck...” His tone sounds like he’s about to burst into tears as he slowly starts to pull out and slide back in again.
The full feeling of Reiner Braun was better than ecstasy, his girth pushing and stretching her, his cock bending up slightly at the tip, already pushing against her g-spot as he trembles above her. With each slow thrust, her pleasure was pushed to an impossible new high, her nails sinking into his large back as she clung onto him for dear life - tears pooling at the corners of her orbs from how amazing it all felt. Like the only two people in the world were her and him, souls connected and swirling around the cosmos in the eternal dance of lovers.
“I can’t... Reiner. It’s too good.” She sobs, her insides now pulling in a rhythm as her coil tightens more and more. “I’m going...”
“Oh, baby...” He groans, eyes rolling as he plunges a little faster. “Me too. It feels so - n’urgh. So good...”
“Reiner!” She sobs hysterically as she snaps, coming undone around him as her legs tremble and head throws back.
As she unravels around him, her name leaves his lips over and over and over again, each time louder than the last as his thick and large cumshot explodes inside of her, his atomic detonation causing mass devastation as his legs quiver, eyes cross and even a bit of drool hangs from his mouth.
You are one special person to capture Reiner’s affections while he held such high walls around his heart for reasons not yet known to you. But you managed it, and god is it such a beautiful thing.

Tumblr media
The brisk morning air whistled past you, brushing against your skin in a wintry kiss. With muted footsteps, you stepped over the forest foliage, gentle and cautious. You lifted your sleek wooden longbow, keeping the feather-tipped arrow nocked. Just in case.
In times like this, you couldn’t be more careful. There could be traps anywhere.
Your kingdom had only just collapsed yesterday. To be quite frank, you had no idea what you were going to do. Where was a royal princet to go once everything you knew burned to the ground?
The memory of smoke and flames still played vividly in your mind, a staggering mirage of harsh ambers and furious carmines and sooty blacks. The smell of death had filled your nostrils, slowly seeping into you, wrapping its grimy dark fingers around your heart as you sobbed over what you lost.
Death had poisoned you, and you just barely managed to pull away before it could see you choke.
That was last night. Today was going to be different. You had nothing left to lose now.
“Your Highness,” a voice rumbled from behind a nearby tree. With your heart thudding angrily against your ribcage, you swiveled around on your heels, watching the man stride out of the shadows with open arms. “Though, just how high could a princet be without their kingdom, hm?”
This man, evidently, was a soldier of your kingdom’s worst rivals. You could tell by the glimmering silver medallion he bore on his jacket, their intricate insignia etched precariously into the metal. Wars were fought for centuries, and thousands of battles found your nation victorious and proudly arrogant. Until… well, until last night.
You wouldn’t be surprised if you were the last survivor of your kingdom.
Without giving it a second thought, your pinched fingers let go of the arrow’s feather-tip end. It sailed through the short distance between the two of you with a resounding hiss, slicing through the air like a hot knife through butter.
A tumultuous concoction of apprehension and awe roiled about you as you watched the man pull two gold-encrusted daggers out of their scabbards, side-stepping at lightning speed and cutting down your arrow as if it were paper.
You paused for just a millisecond, before reaching behind for your quiver, grappling for another arrow. What a fool you were, thinking you could beat him in a game of speed. In just a blink of an eye, he stood in front of you, the cool metal of his dagger rested gently against your jugular. One wrong move, and you would be dead in a matter of minutes.
“I’m Yunho,” he murmured with a sinister grin, blowing a strand of dark hair away from his narrowed eyes. He practically towered over you, glancing down with a mischievous glint in his gaze.
You didn’t bother to grace him with a response, muscles frozen in place.
“Are you afraid of me, Your Highness?” He attempted once more, leaning down slightly to meet your angry stare. “I won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt me. Drop your bow.”
With a gentle huff, you slowly moved your hand away from the quiver, coming to slowly wrap around the wrist that held the dagger against you. It pained you to see that your own fingers were trembling uncontrollably. Were you afraid? You couldn’t quite tell. Yunho watched you with a strange look of curiosity, his pupils flitting from your ashen face to your nimble fingers, wondering just what you were planning to do next.
And that was when you jerked your head away, keeping his wrist still with an iron-grip, taking advantage of his momentary surprise. You hooked your leg around his buckling knees, shoving him backwards. Yunho fell onto the damp leaves of the forest floor with a pained groan.
Though he was a giant of a man, you managed to kick the daggers across the damp forest foliage, toeing them farther and farther away from his reach and pinning his hands above him as you situated yourself just above his hips.
“My, my,” Yunho crooned breathlessly, chest rising and falling just centimeters away from yours. “Never thought I’d be in a position like this with a princet of the enemy kingdom. You smell better than I expected. Is that fougère I detect? A hint of honeyed-peach eau, perhaps? Forgive me, it’s hard to tell underneath the stench of burnt fabric, Your Highness.”
“Shut up!” Were the first words you managed to snarl out. “You… you took everything from me.”
“And we had nothing to begin with, princet,” he murmured coolly from beneath you, regarding you with a well-hidden anger broiling in his narrowed gaze. It took all you had in you not to pummel your fists against his perfectly sculpted features. “Are you going to kill me? If so, I ask you to do it quickly. You don’t quite strike me as the torturing type.”
There was a tense pause lingering between the two of you as you huffed out a small breath, hanging your head in shame. It almost physically pained you to let go of his wrists as you clambered off of his larger frame.
“Thank you,” he said.
You remained silent, a frivolous symphony of death wailing into your ears. If you let him go now, you’d be a goner. And despite that, you knew that you hadn’t the courage to end his life.
After all… he had every right to be angry.
You curled your hands up into tight fists, balling up the wet leaves of the forest floor. Yunho watched you with bated breath, arching his eyebrows. “You know I have to take you in, right? You’ll be a prisoner for the rest of your life.” His question was asked softly, tentative. You were no longer the villain he thought you were.
“I know.”
“I won’t hurt you.”
Swallowing around your clogged throat, you bobbed your head once more. “I know.”
The two of you pushed yourselves off the damp floor. After you grabbed your longbow, he snagged his daggers (kicked an impressive distance away), then the two of you proceeded to stride through the forest in unvocalized tandem. Several times, he pried his lips open to say something, but promptly snapped his jaw back shut, a bashful expression gracing his features. You weren’t entirely sure where he was taking you, but you doubted that it’d be anywhere good for you. You could already picture the musty cell they’d throw you in.
Following several tepid seconds, Yunho spoke up to ask with a slight air of curiosity, “you had a chance to be free. Why didn’t you take it?”
You winced slightly, fiddling with the notched wood of your longbow. “I have nothing left, Yunho. What’s the point in running?”
His throat bobbed as he swallowed uneasily. A gentle breeze ran through the trees, tousling the withered foliate hanging on the gnarled branches. Bits of dead canopy fluttered downwards. Out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted a browning leaf catch against the strands of your hair, a minute frown marring your lips. You reached upwards to pluck out the weather-beaten frond, flicking it away in the midst of your silent brooding.
“Stop,” he commanded after a moment’s hesitation, lifting an arm to your abdomen to halt you mid-step. “I can’t… I can’t do this. You have to go.”
Incredulity seeped into your voice. “What?”
In frustration, the giant of a man carded his hands through his ink-hued locks, screwing his eyes shut.
“Yunho—!”
“I’ll pretend like I never saw you. Please, just go. Get on a boat and sail far away from here.” He paused to unsheath one of his gold-encrusted daggers, glinting almost maliciously against the filtered sunlight. You had to hold in a gasp when he held the hilt out to you, gesturing for you to take it. “I hope to never see you again, princet.”
With nimble hands, you slowly curled your fingers against the handle, the cut-jagged gems cold against your skin. You twirled the blade with surprising agility, and Yunho almost found himself grinning at your natural talent.
“Why are you doing this? Why are you letting me go?” You couldn’t help but be slightly suspicious.
Yunho refused to meet your gaze, shame sitting heavily on his shoulders. “I… I don’t want to hurt you. I wasn’t lying when I said that before. You lost everything, and it’s my Kingdom’s fault. My people are proud, and they don’t want to admit when they’re wrong. For that, Your Highness, I’m sincerely sorry. I just… I don’t want to be the reason you’re rotting away in prison.” One of his hands reached out to grasp yours, laying his warm palm over both the dagger and your knuckles. You almost flinched backwards, eyeing him warily. “If you head far enough east to where no soul knows of ridiculous trivialities like Kingdoms and royalty lines, you can… you can start over. No titles, no responsibilities, no ties. I’m giving you a chance to leave behind your bloody past. You’ll be safe. Or, as safe as one can be in these times.”
When he slipped his hands away from yours, you could almost feel all of his warmth pull away. Reality seemed to sink into your consciousness, and you also staggered backwards, sucking in deep breaths of cold forest air.
“Thank you, Yunho,” you whispered, clutching his dagger and your bow. “I won’t ever forget about this.”
He dipped his head just slightly, the smallest of smiles quirking his lips upward. “Have a safe journey, princet. I know I said I hoped I’d never see you again, but… I don’t think it’d be too awful, would it?”
“Far from awful, soldier.” You were pleasantly surprised to find genuine mirth coloring your words.
You were well aware of Yunho’s gaze piercing holes into the back of your neck. There was a queer concoction of relief and dread roiling about in your stomach. Nonetheless, you swiveled on your heel, thumbing the grooves and bumps of the sleek dagger he had given you, striding away from the enemy who let you go.

This is a silly idea that wouldn't leave my head about Mondo being hesitant and Taka knowing exactly what he's about. Also I apologize to Leon.
The mixing of classes 77 & 78 in the rec room on a weekend should have been a chaotic party, but there was a certain Moral Compass in attendance who'd already vetoed many of the more rowdy ideas put forth.
The current spectacle was Nekomaru arm-wrestling Sakura. The intense screaming from the two made it sound more exciting than it was: they'd been locked in the same position for like five minutes now. At least Hina was happy cheering on Sakura's straining bicep.
Bored with it, Leon moved his eyes away from the stalemate to narrow them instead at Kiyotaka, who was being felt-up as he watched the match. Okay, not felt-up. That'd actually be fun. No, Mondo just had his hand on the hall monitor's upper back, thumb moving in slow circles.
Watching the couple in public was also a disappointment, in Leon's opinion. They'd been officially together a few months and their rules for "PDA" seemed arbitrary to anyone observing. They could look at each other in ways that'd make the most romantic person gag, but wouldn't even hold hands. It appeared Mondo was only allowed to touch Taka from the shoulder-blades up. Or that's all he had the guts to do, maybe.
Boring.
'Well,' Leon thought, 'I can at least work with this.' Messing with Mondo just enough to be entertained, but not enough to be killed, was a tightrope act. Say something the biker deemed a personal attack and he's a goner, but phrasing it as a challenge or dare could usually get Mondo to go along with anything. 'I just need the one carrying the braincell to leave.'
"Hey, Ishimaru!" Leon whispered to Kiyotaka. "I think I saw Souda spiking girls' drinks."
"WHAT!" Kiyotaka immediately left to find and possibly stomp the mechanic to death. Hopefully Ultimate Nurse Mikan was around.
"Ba--Taka?" Mondo called, confused at the sudden departure.
Leon swooped in and took his arm to pull him away from the main crowd a bit. "Mondo, buddy, want to have some fun?"
His buddy suspiciously glared down at him and answered, "Depends. What's yer idea of fun?"
Leon smiled, knowing the other's curiosity was a great sign for this plan working. "I noticed your wandering hands don't wander very far," he quickly waved his arms and continued when Mondo started puffing up to yell at him, "SO I wanna help you get them to second base tonight!"
Mondo deflated and stared.
"Y-Y'know, it's a baseball metaphor because I'm-"
"I KNOW WHAT THE FUCK SECOND BASE MEANS!" Several students turned to them, unimpressed, prompting Mondo to lower his voice again. "The hell are ya gettin at?"
"Well, either you got shy hands or Taka has you whipped. Which is it?"
"Is yer idea of fun gettin ripped in half, dude?"
"Er, let me start over," Leon back-pedaled quickly. He could do this. "What's stopping you from touching Taka more than a nervous twelve-year-old on the first date?" Shit. "Shit, wait, don't hit me! I'm just curious why you've been together so long and I've never seen your hands reach the promised land!"
The other boy paused with right arm still raised in mid-punch. "Wha?"
"By 'promised land' I mean his butt." Leon took a step backwards in case he had to dodge.
Something about that made Mondo briefly look more insecure, "One: I ain't lookin to get dumped. I still dunno how handsy he'll let me get."
Then his attack-dog mode returned and he brought his raised arm to his chest to crack his knuckles. "And two: if you've been lookin at Taka's ass, I'mma tie ya up in front of the fuckin ball machine an' leave ya there."
"What? No! Gross!" Leon had been, but it was like admiring a work of art, and also not the point. "I just want my pals happy! Trust me, every time you touch his back, go lower than before. You can watch his signals or whatever, but if you go slow it'll be fine!"
Leon was proud he sounded so supportive. It was a complete lie, of course. Leon was 99.9% sure the second Mondo passed the belt line, Kiyotaka would loudly explode at his boyfriend, making the guy explode right back, and ensuring Leon finally had his entertainment for tonight.
Leon just had to make sure he won his little Mondo game first, "You should at least try before he finds someone else man enough to grab dat a-"
"YA LITTLE SHIT!"
Whoops, Leon found himself suspended off the ground by his shirt. That's going to stretch. He shouldn't have gone the toxic masculinity route. But Mondo exhaled through his nose and set him back down when he saw Kiyotaka marching back over to them. 'Whipped.'
"Souda swore his innocence, but I've made all the ladies get new drinks to be safe! And Hiro is oddly asking everyone if they need ice but it's not for the drinks...?" Kiyotaka's expression changed from bemused to wary. "Uh, was there a problem here, Mondo?"
"Nah, y'know how Leon is," Mondo's voice was disgustingly soft all of a sudden. "C'mon, I think I see Chi playing a game."
As they walked away, Leon caught Mondo rest his hand on Taka's neck then slide down to mid-back without issue. Smirking, Leon adjusted his now loose shirt collar and followed at a distance.
An hour. A whole damn hour passed watching Mondo slowly achieve touching Kiyotaka's hip! Leon wanted to scream. He didn't mean go that slow! And Taka acted like he didn't notice or care either. Leon wished Souda really was spiking drinks so he could down three.
Sayaka appeared at Leon's side, startling the redhead. "You're disappointed in him," she stated.
"Of course I'm disappointed! Dude's a gang leader and he acts like the Ultimate Gentleman!" Wait. "Wait, what do you mean? How do you...?"
"Psychi~c," she sing-songed innocently before she pointed to the couple Leon had been stalking. When Leon looked over, Kiyotaka's hand reached back to purposefully guide Mondo's hand from his hip down the short distance to the swell of his behind, and kept it there.
What? The fuck? Happened? He'd been expecting jumping, yelling, possibly some face-slapping to get on video, but definitely wasn't expecting Taka to push Mondo to the goal line. Mondo himself looked dumbstruck.
'Sonuvabitch,' Leon thought. Good for them and all but what was he supposed to do, not tease them? He sauntered up behind the two and stage-whispered, "Oi! Ass-grabbing is not welcome in a school environment!"
They yelped and jumped apart, then just as quickly whirled on him. Mondo's red face especially said Leon was in danger, but it was Kiyotaka who spoke.
"We're outside of school hours, in the rec room among friends! If public displays of affection made you uncomfortable, you could have asked instead of disturbing your peers with vulgar mockery." His arms were crossed and his eyes appeared almost aflame. He was not happy being interrupted.
"Ha," Leon pointed at the proud model student, "It was just funny catching the school mascot initiate groping. You been wanting that a while?"
There was a low growl coming from the direction of Mondo now.
Sayaka grabbed Leon's shoulder and murmured a warning, "Kuwata, you should probably let it go."
He ignored her.
Kiyotaka's eyebrows furrowed as if ready to pounce and maul Leon's face. "It was not groping. Why is it surprising I'd want my partner to touch me?"
"Babe," Mondo had stopped growling at Leon to put all his attention on his boyfriend, "it was really ok? Ya knew what I was tryin t'do all night?"
"Of course," Taka said warmly. "You were only holding me, and I'm yours, so obviously you can-"
"M-MINE?!" Mondo honest-to-god squeaked.
Leon reacted just as loudly, "Did I just hear Taka imply his ass belongs to Mondo? Kiyotaka?? Ishimaru?!"
Whoops, he was being lifted again. Only this time Mondo brought him all the way to the door and literally threw him out.
"Owww. So much for my fun."
Sayaka sighed as she walked out to Leon and handed him something. "You can thank Hiro for the ice."

What if the entire human cast were turned into vampires? (those who stay human throughout the saga)
Well, the first question we must ask ourselves, is who’s turning them? Who would do such a thing?
It’s a very stupid thing to do, after all, and a surefire way to earn yourself a visit from the Volturi.
Now, who in the post-Breaking Dawn world would want to turn all the humans near the Cullens into vampires, ensuring another confrontation between the Cullens and the Volturi?
Answer is, drumroll-
The Romanians.
As of Breaking Dawn, the Volturi are extremely vulnerable. Jane, Alec, even Chelsea have all been neutered. Renata is Schrödinger’s shield. She might work, might not. The more time they’re given to regroup after this, however, the worse news for their would-be usurpers.
Now is the time for a rebellion, but there’s no rebellion without Bella. Bella, unfortunately, is in a coven led by ultimate pacifist Carlisle, and Carlisle isn’t going to greenlight storming Volterra with an army. It’s time to get creative.
This could go many places, but the path of a biting spree in Forks and La Push is certainly one of them.
So, Vladimir and Stefan bite the entire human cast, and open Pandora’s box.
One of the first things to happen, I think, is that Billy, Quil senior, Emily, Kim, and Rachel are killed, maybe even before their transformations can complete. They would not want to live as vampires, to them vampirism is a fate worse than death. A mercy killing before they can hurt anybody would be the only way out.
As for the rest...
This would break the secret.
In this globalized age of internet, viral videos, and live TV, several hundred people all falling mysteriously ill with the same inexplicable symptoms, screaming and begging for death for days, slowly turning into something else as baffled doctors watch, before becoming massacring demons that tear the hospitals they’re in to pieces within minutes and proceed into the streets, killing everything in sight-
Aro hasn’t had a headache like this since ever.
This doesn’t even have to do with the Cullens anymore, though they’ll have to testify that they had nothing to do with this. Caius will be out for blood, though, any blood, and his ire will fall upon them.
This, of course, is the part the Romanians did it all for, because everyone knows that the Volturi are corrupt and would execute them regardless of guilt, so the Cullens will have to bring a new set of witnesses to this confrontation. And this time, of course, the Volturi are showing up to get massacred. Stefan and Vladimir high five each other.
And this time the odds are entirely in their favor.
In Breaking Dawn, standing by the Cullens was a suicide mission. No one knew Bella would be able to pull off what she did, none of the arrivals even knew she even had a gift when they agreed to come. Carlisle gathered only his bravest and most devoted friends.
In this scenario, now that everyone knows Bella’s gift neuters the Volturi, every single vampire who’s ever wanted the Volturi gone are going to want to be there. From random nomads to Maria with her newborns, everyone who’s anybody is going to want to be there, and they’re likely already squabbling over who gets to be top dog as soon as Aro’s a pile ashes.
And Aro can’t avoid this.
He can’t barricade himself in Volterra because there are hundreds of newborns loose in Washington. If he does nothing this will mean that the Volturi rule is officially void. They can’t enforce their law anymore, they may be alive down there in Italy but the era of the Volturi is over in all the ways that count.
If he goes to Washington, he can’t avoid the Cullens for the same reason as above. If he doesn’t collect their testimony to ascertain their innocence it’ll mean they’re now above the law, which in turn means that the Volturi don’t have the strength to punish them.
He has to go to Washington, and he has to deal with the Cullens.
Now, Carlisle may think the best of everyone, but even he would know the plot of the movie 300 when he sees it. The Romanians showed up at his doorstep, they totally didn’t create all those vampires wink, oh and here are eighty thug vampires who are already drawing straws on who gets to kill which Volturi.
More, what happened in Forks and La Push is only a taste of what’s to come.
Not only are the Volturi needed to help stop this madness, but if they should fall then what happened in Forks and La Push will only be a blip on the radar against the chaos that will be unleashed. It’ll be a genocide of the human species.
And Carlisle will have a culpability in that. The reason why this mass vampire creation tragedy is happened in the first place is precisely to see the Cullens go to war against the Volturi.
Last problem, it would be a massacre of the Volturi. Carlisle is a pacifist who cherishes life, even if it there would be no repercussions to the Volturi falling, forty-something vampires would still be killed.
I think at this point it would be unconscionable for Carlisle to allow this confrontation to happen. Question is, how to prevent it?
I have no doubt that the Romanians would be filling Bella’s head with conspiracy theories and what have you, for starters, explaining how her family will never be safe while Aro lives. It would be effective, even if Bella is told by Carlisle what this means for humans she’s not necessarily going to internalize just how bad that would be. Bella also has the problem that she romanticizes her love for Edward, to the point where she i Eclipse would let his family die if it meant she could keep him. Letting civilization fall to protect her lover would be acceptable to Bella.
More, the Cullens like humans well enough, but they’re not altruistic.
Likely, they would be convinced by the Romanians and the other vampires there that this was a fight for liberty, the human population would be fine, this is really no worse than Heidi fishing 40 people a week, we’re just more honest about it! The Cullens would want to be convinced, because the Volturi are scary and have proven evil in the past. If they’re not overthrowing them, they’re not just agreeing to live in danger, they’re agreeing to be slaughtered. It’s been established, to them, that Aro’s just itching for an excuse to kill them.
Carlisle can make his plea that they fuck off to Isle Esme while he alone stays behind to testify to Aro, so there’s no Bella at the confrontation. They’d refuse both because there’d be nothing stopping Aro from killing their allies and then coming after them when they’re alone, and because there’d be a real chance they were leaving Carlisle to his death.
Besides, with Bella’s gift they can hold the Volturi hostage, act nice or she’ll let these 80 vampires kill them. Nevermind that the vampires would just attack the Volturi anyway, and Bella couldn’t not shield them.
Bella and the rest of the Cullens aren’t going to go along with Carlisle.
Now, if Carlisle were Aro, the hard but effective solution here would be the Didyme route. Kill Bella, one life to spare the many.
Carlisle is not Aro.
What options does he have, then?
He could sneak away to intercept the Volturi, speak with Aro, hope to in some way initiate talks. It’d be a desperate, futile gamble, one where even if he gets Aro to listen it still won’t make their army-shaped problem go away, because Bella will never believe it if Aro says “we’re friends now! No quarrel! I’m definitely not going to kill you at first leisure if you let your army go.”
It’s an empty lead.
I think, given everything, Carlisle would swallow down the bitter taste of irony, call up his old friends whom he can still rely on, such as the Irish and the Amazonians, and ask very nicely if they would - sigh - like to witness that the newest Cullen-Volturi encounter goes over peacefully. The shapeshifters should be on board as well, after what happened to their loved ones and the countless other innocent humans killed or turned, they’ll never forgive the Romanians and not Bella for standing with them either.
So Aro shows up, and there’s Bella and the Romanians with an army of thugs, and there to the side is Carlisle with his tiny squad of witnesses. Who, should a fight break out, will try to defend the Volturi and get themselves killed in the crosshairs.
There’s a long silence.
Everyone is giving Carlisle their most exasperated eyerolls, his own squad included. Carlisle wishes he was rolling his eyes too, but the situation is a bit too serious for that. He just stands there feeling very uncomfortable.
Quite damningly for Bella, if she now allows the fight to happen that means the shapeshifters will be killed. None of the Cullens are particularly keen on the fight now that Carlisle’s likely to die.
Frankly, I think this would be an unbearably awkward encounter where absolutely nobody acknowledges aloud the reason why they’re there, or what was supposed to happen, and act as if it’s a normal trial, for the several first few minutes.
The Romanians know this is it, this is their chance, so right about the time where Aro is saying “How excellent that we’ve established the Cullens didn’t do it! Who, then, could the culprits possibly be?” they launch their attack.
All, at this point, depends on Bella’s reaction. If she keeps up her shield, then a glorious battle occurs, and most if not all Volturi die, the Carlisle squad are also goners, and most if not all of the Romanians’ army die as well.
The thing is, to win the Romanians don’t have to win - they just have to make the Volturi lose. So, even if they’re wiped out, if they can take out the key members of the Volturi then the Volturi will still have lost.
And this is where Aro’s planning enters into the equation.
Would he bring his key players to what was certain to be a slaughter? Would he even come himself?
Is it not perhaps wiser to send the twins, who in a fight without their gifts would be the first and easiest to be killed, to a secret location? Hope that, should the Volturi fall, then they can at least hope to take Bella down with them so that Jane and Alec will be able to keep the world from succumbing to a fiery hellpit?
And Jane and Alec couldn’t do this alone. They’re kids, for one thing. More, there are no men like Aro. His gift and personality both have been how he kept the vampire world under control for over a thousand years. It is a romantic notion to go down with your ship, burn with your empire, but it’s an impractical one. And Aro is nothing if not practical.
If he doesn’t show up to the trial it’ll just be sending his Volturi to be slaughtered, and as I explained above, not going at all isn’t an option either.
I think the twins would be safely whisked away to some faraway place, while Aro arrives with plans for an effective escape for himself and the core members, and as many vampires Chelsea was able to get to redshirt themselves.
This, in turn, means that even if Bella doesn’t use her gift, it’ll still be a slaughter. Alec and Jane aren’t there.
In the scenario where Bella doesn’t use her gift, this forces the Cullens to fight alongside the Carlisle squad and the Volturi. The odds are not so uneven as they originally were. Could be Aro still escapes, or given the tipped balances he could try and luck it out, to increase the odds of his side winning.
There are many outcomes this battle could have, but the Volturi would not escape unscathed from this. No coven would, the fighting would only end when there was only the victor remaining.
I, personally, like the outcome where Carlisle and Aro both survive, and find themselves living with a new world order. The secret is out, the Volturi are a shadow of what they once were, and the Cullens can never live as humans again. The two form a tentative alliance (because at no point has anything been cleared up between them) to keep this new world from descending into interspecies war.
Edward, now a Volturi, wonders where it all went wrong.
(There’s also the outcome where Renesmée joins her grandpa’s squad as a teen rebellion thing, and since no one wants to harm her the fight is cancelled.
Aro repeats his ramble about nukes and missiles, the vampire community needs him to smooth things over and have Chelsea make all world leaders adore vampires or it’s over for all of them. Carlisle supplies in that poorly scripted random member of the audience says exactly what the magician needs him to way, “Yes absolutely the humans have weapons that can take us out!”
It’s awkward for everybody.)

Falling Down Around You
Sans had been helping the Guard. His shortcuts were one of the most useful things he could provide to the Underground. It was why he’d kept his job as a messenger and mail carrier despite being the Judge, despite being a practicing psychiatrist. He could jump around the Underground in a few minutes, a journey which might take several days depending on which areas you needed to go through. The fastest road might take you from Old Home to the Castle in New Home in a few hours if you ran the whole way and didn’t stop to talk to anyone. But even the Human had originally taken a few weeks to make the whole trip, because they’d been stopped by numerous puzzles, Monsters who wanted to fight them, and even things like buying things at a shop or getting a room at the Inn. A closed down elevator or a blocked tunnel could delay you even longer, and what if you kept being forced down side routes? So if someone needed a message delivered right then and there, they could either send a text or call. But what happened when you needed to deliver something? Or someone? What happened when the person you’re trying to reach wouldn’t answer? The answer was simple. Call someone who can go there in a flash. And of course he’d been happy enough to do it all. Kept things interesting, let him hear news. Occasionally important things would go through from Gaster or the Royals. He’d be the first to hear about Mettaton’s newest shows. It was he who’d been able to congratulate Undyne on her first ever action film even before Alphys could. All the best Undertube videos, the most interesting articles on the Undernet, even plans for new puzzles. He heard about all of it as he zipped back and forth. Tonight however, he’d taken more shortcuts than ever before. First the King and Queen to Snowdin for Isa, then he’d taken them back to the Palace and immediately began transporting to the furthest areas of the Underground. Looking for the most obscure and hidden Monsters to let them know about the King’s order for evacuation. And he’d even helped special cases out for the guard, transporting fire Monsters who couldn’t enter in through the Waterfall Area, or various Monsters from Old Home who couldn’t easily pass through Snowdin Caverns. Then a Guard had asked him to go down to the Lower Waterfall City in the Cliffs and the Outpost below in the Depths to help transport people out so the elevators would be freed up a little. He had to pause and crouch down, his skull nearly level with his knees. Dizziness was making his head feel fuzzy, but he didn’t want to spend too long recovering from it. A real break would be needed soon or he’d regret it. When he had enough strength back he took a shortcut to Gaster’s cave. Asgore and Toriel were up on the platform with Gaster. He headed that way. “Hey Tori,” he said, and she turned with...well... not quite a smile, but more of a flicker of polite recognition. “Have you seen Papyrus?” She shook her head. “I haven’t, but Gaster said he went to inspect the ship, I think he is still on board.” Sans gave a small sigh of relief. Really there hadn’t been too much to worry about. They were trying to hurry with the evacuation because they wanted as much time as possible in case something went wrong or some Monster was missing. And there wasn’t anyone that could really do his bro any harm, or would even want to. But he’d still felt the icy chill of panic throughout this whole thing. Over near the catwalk, Seamus was packing up the last of the recording equipment, with his husband Evan helping him. Mettaton was nowhere to be seen, and Sans decided that the robot had probably either already boarded the ship or was in line somewhere. Or maybe searching for Napstablook. Over the years the two had had a strange friendship, though neither had ever really said how it came about. And the ghost had become somewhat less self depreciating and a little more confident in their abilities. Really their music had been in the top musical hits chart for over a hundred years now, even the newer albums were popular. Even so, Napstablook was still somewhat gloomy, and that was alright. Nobody could ever match the constant energy that Papyrus had. If Napstablook wanted to be a little gloomy and enjoy long periods of solitude, that was their right. Still working at the computers in the section of the cave that served as Gaster’s lab was one of his assistants. Tertia, who was bird-like and hunched over. She poked at the keys in manner that might have seemed like boredom to anyone else, but Sans knew it was just her way. All four of Gaster’s assistants were very strange Monsters. Suddenly the cave shook.  Lights flickered as the very roof of the cave trembled, screams and gasps came from the lines of Monsters waiting to board the ships. Alarms began blaring loudly and little red lights began flashing all over the cave. Gaster whirled round. “What is it? What’s happening?” he demanded of his assistant who was now typing frantically away at the keyboard, trying to find the source. Down below the Monsters were beginning to panic and the Guard was having to step in to keep things from getting out of hand. Tertia gasped, her grey eyes going wide, the most expressive face he’d ever seen on any of the assistants. “It’s the Core! It’s experiencing an overload! It’ll go down in just a few minutes!” Gaster’s mouth fell open in shock. It was only for half a second that he stood there, but with everyone staring at him, waiting for him to carefully explain to them what that meant exactly and what they should do, it seemed like an eternity of waiting. When he finally did move it was neither carefully nor calmly. The scientist threw himself forward towards the ledge looking down on the ship, grabbing the rails to push himself up so that he was right above where the Guards were. “GET EVERYONE ON THE SHIP NOW! DON’T COUNT THEM! JUST BOARD!” Pandemonium ensued. Monsters surged towards the doors of the ship, climbing aboard with the assistance of the Royal Guards, who were doing their best to keep smaller Monsters from being trampled in the chaos. Gaster was halted by Toriel and Asgore who were demanding to know what was happening. But he had no patience for careful explanations. He dove past them and started grabbing files and notebooks off his desk and stuffing everything haphazardly into a briefcase. “It’s the core!” he screeched, almost in hysterics. “If it falls the entire grid will go down. It won’t be enough to kill anyone as long as they aren’t in the machine itself, but the shock wave will be enough to reach this cave. The ship is programmed to open a Rift in the event of an apocalyptic emergency, and it will think this is one!” Glancing behind and seeing their blank expressions he growled in frustration. “Don’t you get it?! If we don’t get on board the ship will leave without us!” That did it, horrified understanding dawned in the eyes of the two Monarchs and they ran for the stairways along with the rest of the crowds. But the lines still stretched out through Waterfall, there were still over 600 Monsters who hadn’t gotten the chance to board yet. Feeling sick to his stomach, Sans wondered for a second what he should do. Shortcuts. He could save some people. Seamus and Evan were making for the stairs as well and he ran to catch up with them. Grabbing their arms he used a shortcut to tear all three of them from their current position in space and onto the ship, where he left them confused and disoriented, and took a shortcut back. Next was Tertia, who was sitting, not moving, in her chair, staring blankly at the computer screen in shock. She didn’t thank him as he handed her over to the Guards in the ship’s hold. He’d gone back for Gaster when he spotted Realis enter the cave looking frantic. Running that way instead he brought the prince into the ship as well. Monsters outside were desperately pushing relatives, especially younger ones, forward. Though there were no real children left after three hundred years, many still appeared to be children, and their parents lifted them high, ignoring their protests, and practically handed them to the Guards, who took them into the ship. Cousins, lovers, and friends were shoved forward, and other Monsters who only had themselves to worry about pushed their way to the front. He saw Papyrus pull a Froggit as well as both Bratty and Catty into the ship all at the same time. Even Monster Kid had leaned back as far as he could to take the tiny Cinnamon with the curl of his tail while Goner helped Cinnamon’s older Sister, Lapina, climb up using his tail.  A tiny yellow bird who had once carried people across a disproportionately small gap was clinging to her fur, terrified out of its mind. Where had Gaster gone to? He spotted Gaster fiddling with the computers, Sans appeared behind him and saw the little storage chip he’d plugged into slot. The Scientist was trying to copy over his research. “Doc! Come on! There’s no time!” And there wasn’t time. The surge from the collapsing Core hit and the cavern shook again and the lights went out, leaving only the ship and it’s power system separate from the main grid still lighting the space. Screaming and panicked shouting rang out and the Monsters nearest to the ship were forced back. The Rift had begun to open up underneath the floor of the cave. Papyrus was looking frantically around the cave, pushing against his own guards as they tried to close the doors for their fall into the Void. “SANS!!!” he screamed. Sans was only a few steps from the edge of the platform, right over the ship. He didn’t think, he only moved. He was already in the air when he realized that Gaster was with him,  having tried to stop him from making the jump and fallen with him. To all those still in the cave it appeared as if a gigantic flat disk of nothingness you couldn’t describe that had no color to speak of but wasn’t black or white and could be seen even in the dark despite not giving off any light had opened up where the floor was supposed to be. The Ship and the pair of falling Monsters seemed to slow and freeze in place, then slowly... without moving, they simply began to fade away as if they had never been. And with them went the strange grey disk that made up the Rift. From San’s point of view the world around him began to warp and twist as if it were being turned inside out. He could still see the Monsters in Gaster’s cave, but instead of the cave being all around him, it was as if the space around him had been turned inside out and shaped into an orb, leaving only the Void around him as he fell away from the orb. It got smaller and smaller until it was gone, and so was the ship. He and Gaster were adrift in the Void.

Lady Noir/Lila Fake-Dating/Emotional Blackmail: Betting Against the House: Chapter Seven
Read it on AO3: Betting Against the House: Chapter Seven: Floodgates
“Okay,” Ladybug sighed heavily fifteen minutes into their patrol that Sunday night. “I know why I’m in a crumby mood, but why are you so lifeless, Chat Noir? You’ve been really off all week.”
His brow furrowed in confusion, trying to think of when he’d seen her that week for her to notice that something was not right with him. He quickly shook it off, reasoning that it didn’t really matter. Maybe he’d been distracted the last time they’d seen each other and now she was lumping that in with the mood she’d noticed at present.
“It’s…kind of complicated,” he explained without explaining.
Her run slowed to a stop, and she turned to look at him with those piercingly perceptive blue eyes. “Want to talk about it?”
He bit his lip, hesitating.
Telling Nino had ended disastrously…but would it really hurt to tell Ladybug? He was getting to the point where he needed to vent, and Ladybug was a safe choice. She didn’t know who he was, so there was no way she could interfere.
“…Yeah,” he eventually decided. “Okay. Let’s talk. It’s kind of a long story, so do you want to go sit somewhere?”
She nodded and motioned for him to follow her.
They came to a stop on the roof of the school, and Ladybug sank unceremoniously into a cross-legged position, patting the space beside her.
“It’s actually pretty comfortable, let me assure you,” she chuckled, trying to keep the atmosphere light.
“Not bad,” he confirmed as he took a seat with his legs stretched out in front of him.
“So, what’s up?” she prodded gently. “You seem like you have a lot on your mind.”
He nodded, exhaling long and slow. “Yeah. You don’t even know the half of it.”
“So tell me.” She nudged his shoulder with her own.
“You go first,” he insisted. “Tell me why you’re in a crumby mood, and I’ll tell you about what’s eating me alive from the inside out.”
“Oh, it’s not really a big deal,” Ladybug sighed, looking away. “Just my friend, this guy that I kind of have a crush on, has gone totally insane. He’s dating my arch-nemesis now.”
Chat Noir arched an eyebrow. “He’s dating Papillon?” he snorted incredulously. “Yikes. Your friend has some seriously poor taste.”
She cracked up, shaking her head. “No, no. Worse than Papillon. I swear this girl got kicked out of hell because she bullied the devil too much, but my friend’s, like, in love with her now or something…” The levity abruptly dropped out of her voice, replaced by an aching sadness. “…so I don’t think we’re going to be friends anymore.”
“I’m sorry,” he quietly consoled her, reaching out to rub soothing circles between her shoulder blades. “That really sucks, Ladybug…. It’s hard growing apart from people you were close to,” he whispered, thinking of his own moribund relationship with Chloé. “I’m really sorry.”
“It’s okay.” She sighed again in resignation. “He’s got the patience of a saint, but I don’t think even he can stand her for too long. One of these days, he’s going to wake up, realize he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, and come crawling back to me to ask my forgiveness and beg to be my friend again.”
“I hope so.” He gave her back a pat and then withdrew his hand.
“So…” She tipped her head at him expectantly. “I told you my problem; now, you tell me yours.”
He grimaced, looking down at the empty street below. “I’ve…kind of gotten myself into a mess. You’re going to freak.”
“What happened? Are you okay?” she pressed, all teasing gone from her tone and expression.
He seesawed his hand back and forth in a “so-so” gesture. “I’m…I don’t know. I just bit off more than I can chew. I thought I could go toe to toe with her, but…”
He shook his head.
“Start from the beginning,” Ladybug instructed.
Chat took a deep breath. “The beginning. Right…. So…there’s this girl I’m in love with.”
Taken aback, Ladybug gave a start and blinked rapidly. “You’re…in love?”
He nodded, a secretive smile coming to his lips as he thought about Marinette. “Yeah. Like…disgustingly in love. I would do anything for her.”
“Oh,” Ladybug replied weakly, struggling to keep her heartbreak from showing.
“I mean, a part of me will always love you, Ladybug, but I long ago decided to respect your wishes, and I think it turned out for the best because…Princess is the one,” he admitted, feeling a rush just talking about her.
Ladybug blinked. “‘P-Princess’?”
He nodded. “I mean, I can’t tell you her actual name, so…Princess’ is what I call her.”
She briefly wondered if he called anyone else “Princess”. Could it really be true that he had fallen in love with her twice?
“She’s so amazing, Ladybug. You’d like her. I’ve liked her for a long time…probably a couple years, actually. I just…I didn’t realize it right away, but now…” He laughed at himself, the giddiness going to his head. “I’m such a goner. So, anyway. We’re friends, and she doesn’t know how I feel…yet. I’m scared of messing things up, and she’s so out of my league, but… Then, there’s this other girl…. Let’s call her Jasmin.”
“Jasmin,” Ladybug repeated, trying to match the pseudonym to someone she knew.
“Yeah,” Chat sighed. “Jasmin is a huge bully.”
The bottom dropped out of her stomach as she recognized Lila.
It occurred to her that she should probably stop him. He could potentially give too much away, not realizing that she’d seen through the false names and knew the people whom he was talking about.
She didn’t stop him, though. She told herself that she was worried about him. He’d been so wrong all week, and he seemed to need to get whatever this was off his chest. She needed to be there for him and figure out what was wrong so that she could fix it.
She didn’t believe the lies she told to make herself feel better. She knew she was a bad person for taking advantage of the situation, but she couldn’t help her need to know what Chat had to say about Lila and Marinette.
“No one knows she’s secretly a bad person, though,” he informed unsuspectingly. “Jasmin has them all fooled…except Princess. Princess saw through her and tried to expose Jasmin, but it didn’t go over well, so now Jasmin has this vendetta against Princess.”
Ladybug nodded to show she was following along. “That’s…that’s awful.”
“Yeah.” Chat blew out a breath and carded a clawed hand carefully through his hair. “It’s…awful doesn’t begin to cover it. Jasmin is seriously dangerous. She’s threatened to spread rumors that would ruin Princess’s reputation, her career prospects, her friendships…everything. Jasmin is well-connected, unfortunately, so she’s kind of a powerful enemy. I’ve been afraid that she was actually going to physically hurt Princess before a couple times.”
“Oh my gosh,” Ladybug whispered hollowly, feeling ill.
“That’s where I come in,” he informed ruefully, obviously regretting his part in all of this.
She tipped her head to the side, brow furrowing as she stared at him uncomprehendingly. “What do you mean?”
He bit his lip. “I go to school with them…and I’m Jasmin’s coworker.”
Ladybug sucked in a sharp breath, internally beginning to panic.
This was too much. She had to stop him. He was giving too much away.
“I’ve been making deals with Jasmin for years to keep her at bay,” he groaned. “Otherwise, there’s no telling what she would have done to Princess.”
All previous thoughts left Ladybug’s mind as she gawked dumbly at her partner, trying to understand what he had just told her. “Wait. What? Deals? What deals?”
He had been making deals with Lila? For her sake?
“At first it was nothing,” he snorted bitterly. “I just had to pretend to be friends with her, introduce her to industry contacts, appear at events with her, not say anything bad about her. I didn’t think anything of it because it was a small price to pay for Princess’s safety.”
He turned to face her, and she could see the fear in his eyes. “What else was I supposed to do? I’m not very powerful by myself, but that was the one card I had to play. A couple years ago, Jasmin carried out this character assassination plot that got Princess expelled. If I could fix things with a small sacrifice, I owed it to Princess to make it. She’s done so much for me, Ladybug. She doesn’t even know.”
“So you got her un-expelled,” Ladybug breathed, putting the pieces together. “You saved her.”
He laughed halfheartedly at that. “Princess mostly saves herself. I just got Jasmin to back off and get the expulsion reversed in exchange for pretending to be Jasmin’s friend.”
“No,” Ladybug insisted, resting a hand on Chat’s forearm. “You saved her.”
The shadow of a smile tugged at his lips. “Well…maybe a little. I hope so, at least. She’s certainly saved me more times than I can count.”
“I bet she loves you,” Ladybug hummed happily, fully intending to kiss Chat Noir silly the next time he came to visit Marinette.
Surprisingly, Chat scoffed at the assertion. “Actually, I’m pretty sure she hates me.”
“What?! No! Absolutely not. She has to be crazy about you,” she insisted, trying to recall what she had done the last time they’d seen one another that would give him the impression that she did anything less than adore him.
“Jasmin’s latest price for Princess’s safety is that I have to pretend to be her boyfriend,” he grumbled, steeling himself for his partner’s reaction.
Ladybug’s hands dropped limply to her sides as everything started to come together. She felt numb. It was like the shock of suddenly losing a limb; the pain was too overwhelming to be felt, so she sat there staring, barely managing to find her voice to whisper a strangled, “What?”
“Princess thinks I betrayed her, and she hates me now. She won’t talk to me. She’ll barely look at me, and, when she does, it’s with pure disgust. It’s killing me, Ladybug,” he whimpered, barely holding it together as his whole body from his ears to his tail slumped, wilting.
“No,” she choked, shaking her head futilely as she started to process what Adrien was doing for her and how she had repaid him. “Oh, no. Nononono.”
“I wish I could explain myself, but I can’t.” He picked up his tail and started playing with tip mindlessly. “She’d stop me if she knew…. Part of me wishes someone would stop me because it’s getting unbearable,” he laughed mirthlessly. “It’s only been a week, but I don’t know how much more I can take.”
She couldn’t breathe, and she was fairly certain that she was going to be sick. She almost wished she had never learned the truth because it was too painful to imagine everything Adrien had been suffering for her sake all of this time while Marinette had always held his seemingly amicable relationship with Lila against him.
She’d had no idea.
“I can’t stand it when she touches me,” he confessed with a shudder. “It’s like that pins and needles sensation when your foot falls asleep all over, and she’s getting bolder about it as time goes on. She sits on my lap at lunch, and it’s made me completely lose my appetite.”
Tears began to stream down her cheeks as she realized how spectacularly she had failed him.
“It’s gotten to the point where I’m physically starting to feel unwell,” he lamented, “but what choice do I have? Jasmin could destroy Princess’s entire career…. So, I just have to put up with it.”
He gave a resigned sigh, bowing his head in defeat.
Finding her strength, Ladybug reached out and grabbed hold of his forearm. “No. You absolutely do not. This ends here.”
“Ladybug,” he sighed, shaking his head in protest. “You don’t understand.”
“No, Adrien,” she corrected mournfully. “I think I finally do.”
His eyes shot open wide in panic, and an involuntary curse slipped past his lips. “You weren’t supposed to find out. How…?”
She shook her head, pulling him to his feet and asserting, “We need to talk,” as she half dragged him across the school’s roof in the direction of the bakery.
“Ladybug, where are we going?” he inquired warily as Marinette’s house came into view.
“Relax,” she commanded, grabbing him around the waist with one arm while the other threw her yoyo.
“Ladybug, no!” yelped as their destination became clear. “Don’t you dare tell her! I told you all that in confidence!”
“Adrien, settle down and get in here,” she grunted when he began to struggle in her arms as they touched down on the balcony.
“She can never know. Don’t you dare rat me out!” he growled, losing the battle as she pulled him down the skylight.
They landed on Marinette’s bed in a jumble, and Chat continued to fight in an attempt to get away until Ladybug muttered, “Detransformation,” and Chat Noir found himself in Marinette’s arms instead of Ladybug’s.
He blinked at her dumbly. “…Oh.” And then cursed a second time.
“Yeah,” she chuckled through rampant tears that would no longer be restrained. “Oh, Adrien, how could you, you idiot? All this time?”
She shook her head, burying her face in his chest. “You absolute idiot.”
“I had to,” he tried to convince her, losing his focus as she wrapped around him like a baby koala.
“I’m so sorry I never realized…” she hiccupped, regaining some semblance of her composure. “…that I never saw how you were suffering. I was so caught up in my own problems, in my own head, that I never thought…”
She pulled back to look at him, taking his face in her hands. “Detransform. Please?”
He closed his eyes and hesitantly complied, cracking them open slowly to observe her reaction.
She wore a warm smile, and there was a softness to her eyes as she whispered, “Adrien Agreste, you’re my hero, and I love you—both of you—so much…even if you are an idiot.”
“Your idiot…if you’ll have me?” he offered tentatively with a nervous gulp.
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted,” she assured, inching closer to press her lips to his.
He surged into the kiss, savoring her warmth, her softness, her strawberries and oatmeal scent. He took note of the way her fingers dug into his arm and shoulder, the way she arched her back, pressing into him.
The heat of her breath on his face when they pulled back momentarily made him dizzy. It was sensory overload—too much and yet not enough at the same time.
They lost themselves in kiss after kiss until frenzied turned to languid and they were left sleepy and content in one another’s arms.
“…I’m sorry,” Marinette whispered, finally breaking the long silence as she gently played with Adrien’s hair and stroked his cheek.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about,” he assured, surprised that she was still thinking about it.
She shook her head. “No. I should have believed in you. I should have trusted you. I’m really ashamed that I turned on you so quickly.”
He shrugged, looking down at her collarbone, not meeting her eyes. “It’s okay…. I mean…it wasn’t really, but it all worked out, I guess, so…I don’t know. Don’t worry about it. It’s in the past now.”
She tipped his chin up to force him to look at her. “Thank you. For everything you’ve done to protect me.”
“I would do anything for you,” he repeated what he had told Ladybug before. “I’m serious. I would do it all again.”
“I know, but you don’t have to. Never again,” she promised. “It’s over, and now it’s time for me to protect you. She will never lay a hand on you ever again.”
“Marinette,” he sighed wearily. “You knowing doesn’t change anything. I have to do what she wants; otherwise, she’s going to ruin you.”
“Let her try,” she snorted. “I don’t care, Adrien. Let her do whatever she wants. We’re done letting her win. Let her do her worst to me, but she can’t have you anymore. We’re not playing her game.”
He frowned, unspoken worries filling his mind and reflecting in his eyes. “Are you sure about this?”
She nodded, smiling bravely. “No matter what she does, we won’t lose. We have one another. We’ll figure this out, and everything will be okay in the end. You’ll see.”
He hesitated for a moment, but then a tentative smile parted his lips. “…All right, My Lady. If there’s one thing I trust, it’s our partnership. So long as we’re in this together.”
“Always,” she assured, leaning in for another kiss.

Jeg har nok kjærlighet for deg og meg
PART ONE
Fandom: Druck
Pairing: Fatou Jallow/Kieu My Vu
Wordcount: 1065
AU where Kieu My and Fatou haven't met yet, but Ismail still steals a tortoise.
or the one where Kieu My is having a shitty day, but a certain aquarium store worker brightens it.
You can also read it on ao3 :)
This was, without a doubt the worst day of Kieu My’s life. Looking down at her now coffee stained clothes, she let out an exasperated sigh. Why does this kind of shit always happen to her?
“Oops” the older man in front of her says, not seeming sorry at all. It’s okay. It’s just coffee. It could’ve been worse. Worse already happened. She plasters on a smile, not wanting to give the old goon any satisfaction in seeing her discomfort. She knew his type, telling him off would just give him more ammunition, especially here.
“It’s fine.”
And with that she turned away from him. At the moment she was just thankful that the coffee wasn’t smoldering hot. She wasn’t even surprised by the words muttered under his breath as she walked away.
“Should’ve stayed in China with your virus”
She stopped in her tracks, looking over her shoulder at him as she said, “I’m the one wearing a mask. Where’s yours?”. There was no point in telling him that she wasn’t Chinese, he wouldn’t care, and she had no desire to deal with another racist today.
She quickly found some napkins by the coffee station and made her way back towards her family. Her mother gasped when she took in her exterior, but before she could say anything Kieu My quickly explained to her that she’d accidentally spilled coffee all over herself, for there was no reason to put her mother under even more stress.
They were at the police station at 9 in the morning. A few hours ago, the store her parents owned was robbed and mostly destroyed. All the windows had been shattered and the groceries were destroyed. To top it all off, the words “WE DON’T WANT YOU HERE” were sprayed on the inside of the store. She feels like she should be more shocked, but the recent spike in racism towards Asians the last year has left her numb, she was just so tired.
“I’m fine mom, really.” She tried to assure her, but her mom wouldn’t have any of it. She banished her to the mall a couple of blocks away, to get herself cleaned up was the excuse she used, but Kieu My knew that wasn’t the real reason. Her mom wanted her away from the station, to try to shield her from the reality of the situation-
“You look horrible, you can’t let people see you in this state, go and clean up”
-even though she wouldn’t say it out loud.
So Kieu My left the station at her mother’s command. The walk to the mall only took about five minutes, and before she knew it, she had fully dried her shirt at the public bathroom and was on her way out. Halfway out of the mall was when she stopped short.
She looked into some shop, animal shop of some kind, but that wasn’t what peaked her interest. There was a girl behind the register, maybe the most beautiful girl she’d ever seen. She looked to be around Kieu My’s age, and she glowed. Her smile was so radiant and Kieu My felt weak in the knees. There was someone else working in the store, but Kieu My didn’t pay much attention to them, she was too distracted by the black girl with hair braided into a high, golden ponytail. She could see her eyes crinkle as she laughed, and god, from that moment on she knew she was a goner.
It took a couple minutes for Kieu My to stop staring. Feeling like a creep, she set foot back to the police station.
She’d come back, she had to.
-
A few days went by, and Kieu My still didn’t have a good enough excuse to visit the pet shop girl. What did she expect? For an animal to just appear at her house in need of help? She didn’t have any pets, nor did any of her friends, and it wasn’t like she could just go to the store and-
Her phone rings, Ismail is facetiming her. Reluctantly she answers the phone, “Hey, Isma-” they cut her off, “Kieu My we have a problem.” They’re walking outside, panting a little.
“Uhm, what kind of problem?”
“I’m on my way to yours right now, do you have any food? What do turtles eat?”
-
It seemed that Ismail had stolen a turtle. They’d stolen a fuckings turtle. “Ismail, what the fuck” she said as she opens the door. They let themselves in and helped themselves to her kitchen. She was the only one home, which is lucky for her, because Ismail just put the animal on her kitchen table and her mom would kill her if she knew.
Long story short, Ismail had dared their friend Constantin to steal the turtle from the local zoo, not thinking he’d actually do it, and now they were stuck with a stolen turtle.
“Why can’t you just let Constantin handle it? He’s the one that stole it.” Ismail looked down at the animal, lightly caressing its back. Sighing they said, “you know how he is.” And she did. It was stupid of her to even ask, of course Constantin wouldn’t take care of the animal, he wouldn’t even take care of himself.
Ismail looked at her now, smiling, “I fed her some cookies, but I don’t think she liked it very much, I don’t know what they eat.” They shrugged and Kieu My facepalmed. Oh god. “You fed it cookies?” it was a light shout, but Ismail didn’t take it personally. “How am I supposed to know what they eat, food is food, right?”. Kieu My don’t have much knowledge about animals in general, but she don’t think any of them would enjoy store bought cookies.
She groaned, she knew Ismail had come here for her help, but she didn’t know what she could possibly do to- wait.
This was perfect.
She carefully picked the turtle up and placed it back in the paper box Ismail and brought it in. She smiled up at her friend, “you know what, this might be the best bad situation I’ve ever been in” she picked up the box and moved towards the door, gesturing for Ismail to follow her.
“Wait where are we going?”
Kieu My didn’t even try to hide the excitement from her voice, “well, to the mall of course”.

Johnny Joestar x Reader :: Wait for It :: Chapter 4
Previous chapter        Next chapter
Summary: Gyro is hospitalized, and now Johnny has no one to turn to. That is, until a former female rider shows him a little compassion.
A/N: A considerably more fluffy chapter this time around, mostly because I realized it was getting a little too long lol
.::.
A blue painted fingernail clicked the stopwatch as your horse came to a slow, sloppy halt.
“Stop.”
Your head was spinning in a daze and you tried to regain your composure to get off your horse. Wobbling a bit as you stumbled towards the ex-jockey, he felt as if you were trying to give him a reason to shake his head. His hand ushered towards your torso to attempt keeping you steady, but Johnny couldn’t do much from his chair.
“You were too late on that one, not to mention that stop was pretty rough. Once you get a better handle of things in general, you should improve. But you can’t be lookin’ so unsure like that.”
“Huh?” Was all you could murmur as you held an icepack to your forehead to soothe the momentary nausea. After taking a couple notes in his notepad, he sets it onto a wooden stump beside him before turning to you. You were prepared for an intense critique, just like the last three times you had taken a lap. The two of you had found a circular clearing near the hotel from last night, complete with a marble, expensive looking fountain in the middle. It was perfect, just wide enough for you to practice horse riding with. As long as no one angrily marched out of their store complaining about the ruckus, anyway.
You were used to waking up early, so the time didn’t bother you. On the contrary, it was Johnny that surprised you at his sluggish manner of waking up. To be fair, the poor guy probably hadn’t had the chance to sleep in for weeks on end. He languidly sat on the edge of his bed for about 13 minutes while you were already getting ready.
Attempting conversation with him, you discovered that the Italian man he was traveling with had somehow taken a gravely dangerous hit and was currently hospitalized. You were sure he was a goner, despite the slight hope the ex-jockey seemed to have that he was alright for now. That was the most light you had seen in his eyes since you first laid eyes on him in this race. Maybe it was that guy that was the reason Johnny was in the lead so often. Not like it mattered, anyway.  The method of how he got there means nothing to you, its how you yourself can catch up is what has you interested. Though you knew him staying behind for his partner would set him back in the race a few days.
You blinked, trying to process what he had told you to improve on. It racked your brain as your turned your back to him and contemplated how exactly you would translate what’s planted in your mind to your actions when riding your steed. It was so frustrating, you knew what you wanted to do, and yet it seemed like your body betrayed you when attempting to do so. It definitely wasn’t your horse, she was in perfect shape, it was you.
“(Y/N), watch out!”
It all happened so suddenly, you heard gunshots and strange men on both sides of you had collapsed to the ground, seemingly writhing in agony. You turned around to your trainer, who was now breathing heavily with his fingers pointed out in a gun-like shape. Confused, you had ran back over to him, face expressing concern for both of your well being.
“Johnny! What happened?”
“Those guys just tried to mug you when you were goin’ back to your horse. I got ‘em though.” His hands returned to the handles of his wheelchair, letting out a sigh of relief.
He got them? The hell did that mean? You knew he had a gun, but hadn’t seen him bring it outside. Before you could think any further about it, he grabbed your wrist.
“Let’s get our horses and get out of here (y/n). We don’t want to be the ones seen when the police arrive.” As much as you wanted to object in order to continue your training, he was right. If either of you got accused and thrown in jail, that’d be a bad situation. You nodded, and Johnny rolled over to Slow Dancer while you went and mounted your own horse.
.::.
.
.
You had no idea where Johnny was leading you. All you had seen for the past 20 minutes were the pale green hue of the forest the two of you had escaped into. At first you had assumed he was moving forward for the sake of the race, but quickly realized this was the exact opposite direction the next stage was in based on your map.
“What’s your horse’s name?” He broke the silence.
You hesitated for a second. Why would he want to know that?
“..Aphrodite.”
“Nice name. She’s a beauty.”
“Your horse’s name is Slow Dancer, right? That’s really pretty too.” Since compliments were being thrown around, it wouldn’t hurt to actually talk to him for once without the malice you've harbored for him being in the way.
“Oh, I didn’t name her. Thanks though.” A blunt response, yet not quite matter-of-factly.
You didn’t quite know how to respond, but you didn’t need to, as the man moved a pair of branches heavily decorated with leaves out of the way to get a better view of an area that finally contrasted the scene you had been seeing for the last half hour. It was another assemblage of stores and bars right next to each other. Thank god you already had all of your belongings on the back of your horse before the two of you left, otherwise you would have a new reason to be pissed off at him.
“We’ll still have to go back to the other part of the town because my friend is in that hospital, but for now let's take a break and have some lunch.” It was a bit shocking and almost struck you as foolish that he offered to take you to another restaurant after yesterday’s stunt.
“Don’t worry about paying for it, I’ve got you covered.” Well, that solves that.
The two of you get properly seated in the restaurant, with Johnny insisting no one help him with his wheelchair, almost stubbornly so. The walls were coated in patterned red wallpaper, with much better decorations and even utensils than the last one. Perhaps you should’ve made your heist here instead, but there was the chance that they’d have better security. Not to mention, what were the odds you’d find Johnny Joestar of all people in a burger joint? Though that did bring up the question of why he wanted to come specifically here instead of finding a place closer to the hotel.
“You decided burgers weren’t really your thing this time around?” You remark, holding the menu closer to your eyes. The words on this menu were unnecessarily small.
“Nah they are, I just wanted to come to this place again. I had been here before back when I was a jockey and traveled more.”
“Ah..” You bit your lip. It must’ve been a sore subject to talk about for him, so you wouldn’t pester him about it any further. “Why are you treating me to lunch?”
No immediate response from him, it almost looked like he was ignoring you in favor of deciding what he wanted on the menu.  You placed your elbow on the table with your hand pushing against your cheek, your lip jutting out not dissimilar to a sad puppy who was getting enough attention.
“No reason,” He said, not even looking up from the menu. “If you try the same thing as the other day though, I’ll be the one to shoot your ass this time.” Squinting your eyes, you could see a hint of a smirk on his face. Before you could utter ‘try me’, the waitress came to your table to take your orders. It was a quick exchange, and she took your menus and left as soon as she came. Johnny’s eyes were still planted on her as she disappeared into the kitchen.
“You some kind of creep?” You accused, almost bringing up your memories of seeing the jockey with about a dozen girls on him in his former days, but bit your tongue.
He shook his head. “‘Course not. But I was thinking of how you’d look in that waitress outfit instead.”
Your face threatened to redden against your will. Blinking, it took you a moment to process that.
Was..was he flirting?
“What..would make you think about that?” You spat more than intended. “You’re saying that like you literally didn’t put on someone else’s uniform on little than 24 hours ago.”
He had a point. Your fists still balled up on the table.
“Yeah, I can see it.” He continued. “You’d look like a doll.”
You squint your eyes tight, unable to take his compliments without getting flustered. It was frankly embarrassing just how much of a physical reaction you had to it. And he was just..staring at you. No visible change in his expression. Then again, you could barely see it considering your eyes were shut.
He pointed a finger at you. “Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not coming onto you or anything. I just call it as I see it.”
You couldn’t even tell if that was meant to be reassuring or not. When you looked up at him, he still kept that nonchalant face, not seeming to get any particular joy or satisfaction from seeing you like this. Tapping his finger on the table, he stared into the air for a second.
“I shouldn’t have let her take my menu, I wanted to know what dessert they have..”
Your jaw nearly dropped. How could he carelessly say something like that and then change the subject?
This man would kill you sooner or later without even having to shoot..

For @klaroline-events KC Bingo - “Opera House”
Bill Forbes is a well known mafia boss in Chicago. At 19, Caroline turned her back on her upbringing and left to study at a musical conservatory in Europe. Fast forward ten years and she’s a famous opera singer. Due to recent security concerns, she’s been saddled with a bodyguard she’s determined to resent, mainly because she knows the idiot.
Safe and Sound
-Caroline-
Present Day - The Bolshoi Theatre - Moscow, Russia
“Don’t you knock?”
“I did but I don’t actually need your explicit permission to enter.”
“What if I was changing?”
“It’s not like I haven’t seen it before,” he murmured, his dark, blue eyes flickering down the length of her neck and focusing on her gold necklace, obviously partially visible and peeking out from her costume.
Caroline could have kicked herself for letting him see that. But she’d become so accustomed to it and the way it made her feel.
Safe.
Protected.
The last thing she needed was to give him an inkling that she cared.
He was a well-built, five-foot nine, suit-wearing, former Navy Seal, pain-in-the-ass who liked to be right. All the time. He also liked telling her what to do. It was like he got a kick out of being the alpha male.
How did she know this? They had a complicated past, and he didn’t seem to have changed one bit in ten years.
Caroline didn’t like alpha males then and she sure as hell didn’t like them now. She also didn’t like playing the victim. She was many things, but she wasn’t that.
“You can’t just come and go as you please, Mikaelson,” she growled. “I’d like to have some semblance of normalcy in my life and your presence is cramping my style.”
“Well, I’m sorry to ruin your social life, sweetheart, but there are greater things at play here.”
“I don’t need reminding.”
“I actually think you do,” he shot back, his forehead creasing. “These people don’t mess around and given your past,” she gave him a knowing look., “our past,” he corrected for her benefit. “You should know just how much.”
“I’m perfectly aware,” she shouted. “But we’re not kids anymore, and I’d really prefer not to be treated like one.”
“Caroline,” he implored, instinctively moving closer, his hand finding a stray lock of hair and fastening it behind her ear. She felt her chest constrict; his touch was as familiar as it was tender.
She shook her head determined to pretend that their past and whatever this conversation had become was a distant memory.
“I’ve got to get to rehearsal.” She left without a backwards glance, albeit on unsteady legs.
Why did he have to come back into her life and why did it have to be now? She could still remember their reunion like it was yesterday.
3 months earlier - La Fanciulla del West Opening Night - Sydney Opera House, Australia
Caroline took her obligatory bow as the thunderous applause reverberated throughout the venue.
As someone who’d been singing since she was five, moments like this were still surreal. Caroline had worked hard to get where she was, and she didn’t take anything for granted.
Especially nights like this.
As she made her way from the stage, arms full of flowers, she noticed him standing in the wings. Given the intensity of the stage lights, all she could make out was his pristine suit, striped tie and imposing stance.
Caroline only realised it was him as she was giving her flowers to the stage attendant.
From one glance, Caroline could see that, albeit older, the years had been good to him. There were still the tell-tale curls, stormy, blue eyes and crimson lips but they seemed to be even more pronounced now if possible.
She was immediately curious about his unexpected appearance, but Caroline had no intention of reacting or acknowledging him, he didn’t deserve it.
She could sense him watching her, intense and focused, as she made her way purposefully towards her dressing room.
Caroline walked past several well-wishers but she could still feel him following closely. His footsteps were undetectable, but she could still sense his overwhelming presence.
She placed her hand on the door handle to the dressing room, not expecting his warm and masculine one to cover it. Before she could react, he’d spun her around so her back was up against the door and her arms pinned.
He was towering over her, his chest mere inches from hers, those dark, blue eyes angry and demanding. Those crimson lips she knew intimately were so temptingly close but pursed tightly. Caroline knew from experience she was in trouble but right now that was the least of her problems.
“Are you lost?”
“Cute,” he muttered, his hands slowly releasing her wrists. “Maybe you should consider a career in stand up comedy and not opera.”
“Maybe you should with lines like that,” she countered, her gaze unwavering.
Unapologetic.
“Can I go into my dressing room now?”
He didn’t verbalise a response just moved to the side so she could slip inside. Once the door was closed and curious onlookers shut out she let loose.
“How dare you manhandle me like that in front of the cast and crew!”
“Manhandle, Forbes? Nice to see your dramatic tendencies haven’t abated over the years.”
“That’s what you’re going to say to me after that little performance?”
“I’m your bodyguard, love, it’s what I do.” Caroline faltered, wondering when this terrible decision was made and also trying to ignore that familiar endearment which still sounded so good as it rolled off his tongue effortlessly. “Your team told me to introduce myself after the opera ended.”
She was going to kill Enzo and Katherine.
Sure, some guy had decided he liked her a bit too much and had sent a bunch of unsolicited mail and gifts, but she had no intention of changing her life for him and had told them as much. That was until her manager and publicist decided to conspire together, despite her express wishes, and contract a bodyguard without her knowledge.
A bodyguard that was not supposed to be her ex-boyfriend from another life. But here he was in the flesh. She couldn’t stop the memories from ten years ago flashing through her mind if she tried.
Kissing in the rain. Telling her he’d love her forever. Telling her she’d never be alone. Now, here he was after all this time.
Beautiful but demanding.
Breathtaking but arrogant.
“That’s what you call an introduction, Mikaelson?”
“Well, we do know each other so I had to be creative.”
“I didn’t appreciate you…”
“I only did that to illustrate danger is everywhere. In an applauding audience, in the wings, backstage in your dressing room. You need to be more aware of your surroundings.”
“You’ve only been back five minutes, and are already lecturing me. And when in the last ten years did you become a bodyguard?”
He paused, closing his eyes briefly, no doubt trying to find the words. Caroline mentally kicked herself for asking that. She didn’t want him to think she cared.
In reality she knew he’d left Chicago to join the Navy all those years ago. The only reason she knew that was because he left her there. Alone.
“I’m here because...”
“Actually don’t worry about it,” she said dismissively. “I don’t need to know. But it’s only one guy who likes to write letters so I think this is all overkill.”
It was only as she said it and noticed his expression change, and then darken, that this suddenly didn’t seem like such a big coincidence.
“My father asked you to come?” He nodded. “And this isn’t just some guy who likes giving creepy gifts, is it?” He shook his head.
Caroline needed to sit down.
She found her chair and sunk into it, her fingers combing through her golden waves. It was something she did when she was trying to process something she really didn’t want to process.
“They released him from jail.” Caroline barely got the words out. It was a statement more than a question.
“He won’t hurt you, Caroline.” He was beside her in an instant, his hand finding its way to her leg. It wasn’t necessarily unwelcome and that frustrated her more than anything. “I won’t let him.”
“Well, let’s hope you’re right,” she murmured. “I have an after party to get ready for and I’d appreciate it if you left the room.”
She busied herself choosing an outfit to wear, knowing if she looked in his eyes she was a goner. And she had no intention of losing it in front of him, of all people.
Present Day - Turandot Restaurant - Moscow
“How could you do this to me?”
“You’re going to have to be more specific, Care,” she replied. “I do things that annoy people on a regular basis.”
“Kat!”
“Fine,” she admitted. “But there are worse things than having a gorgeous hunk of man meat like that by your side twenty-four-seven.”
“Hunk of man meat? Just how many vodkas have you knocked back tonight?”
The Russian Operatic Society was hosting a dinner for Caroline, the cast and crew at the famed restaurant to welcome the production to Moscow. Her publicist and best friend Katherine had clearly been taking advantage of the free hospitality.
They’d met in Bulgaria three years earlier. Katherine was visiting family and Caroline was on a brief vacation between shows. Being European residents born in America, the two had hit it off and Katherine had become her publicist not long after.
“I lost count after the first couple,” she drawled. “You really could do with a few of these, they take the edge off.”
“I don’t need to take the edge off anything,” she hissed. Given the curious glances from their fellow diners she’d no doubt said it a bit too loudly.
“Say it louder for the people at the back,” Kat teased. “This is exactly what I mean. Something to take the edge off from all that sexual tension bubbling below the surface between you and lover boy.”
“Shhhh,” she chided. “Any louder and lover boy, uh I mean Klaus, will hear you.”
“For the last time, I had no idea you two had a past. The company said he came very highly recommended.”
“My father has networks everywhere,” she growled. “He has this amazing ability to insert himself into a situation without leaving his fingerprints.”
Caroline had left her family behind a decade earlier and even though it was difficult she knew to have any kind of a normal life it needed to happen. She was also aware that, deep down, her father knew that too which is why he’d let her go.
Obviously though not completely. .
“Who knew my bestie was a mafia princess? It’s like something out of a Robert De Niro movie.”
“Shhhh,” she repeated. “I really shouldn’t let you out in public, Pierce.”
“Says the girl who’s a famous opera singer and didn’t feel the need to tell me this pertinent detail that could come out at any time?”
“I’m sorry. You must think I’m strange wanting an out from my former life but choosing a not-so secret career path. I didn’t expect the singing career to happen so fast, let alone at all. I did change my surname.”
“Yes, Caroline Cassidy. Now I know why you weren’t impressed when I asked if your nickname was CC.”
“Cassidy is my middle name.”
“How original.”
“Enough with the snark, Pierce. I know I should have told you in case something came up but it just seemed easier to…”
“Play pretend and let some madman stalk you instead?”
“Yeah because I’d let him do that,” she teased, attempting to lighten the mood.  Caroline knew exactly who he was and what he wanted with her and that thought was ruining the last shreds of her good mood.
“This isn’t a joke and as much as you like to pretend you hate Mister Muscles you need him.” Caroline snorted by way of response. “What’s the story with you two anyway? Were you like a modern day Romeo and Juliet, well without the dying part.”
“We weren’t the Montagues and the Capulets, Kat. Our fathers were in the business together and given my father sent Klaus my way I imagine they’re still close. And we had something, yes, but it’s been over for a very long time.”
“Did he dump you?”
“Why do you assume he did the dumping?”
“I’m just trying to put the pieces of this very complicated puzzle together, Cassidy or Forbes or whatever your name is.”
“He left to join the navy and I left to study in Europe.”
In truth, that’s what happened, plain and simple, but Caroline was still harbouring a grudge. One that had festered for years and now the memory of their time together as teenagers in love wasn’t a happy one. It was one full of questions and doubt that what they had wasn’t real.
She had never loved anyone like Klaus, even to this day, and she’d often wondered whether he felt the same way. Whether he found himself thinking about what they could have had. What they could have been.
It was something she desperately needed to know but would never ask. Her pride was everything.
“Well, if that isn’t the precis to a really boring movie,” she pretended to yawn for effect. “You wouldn’t be so hot under the collar about him if that was everything.” She had a point but Caroline had no intention of giving her the satisfaction.
“Why can’t we just ditch him? Enzo can protect me.”
“Enzo can’t protect himself let alone anyone else and you know how much he hates spiders. Yeah that’s a surefire way to protect you from getting killed.”
“Way to ruin the mood.”
“No, that’s my job,” Klaus murmured, suddenly appearing from what seemed like nowhere and placing himself between their seats discreetly. She was trying to ignore just how good he smelled, a mixture of sandalwood and spices. “We need to get out of here now.”
“This guy is the life of the party,” Caroline joked. She was getting a little sick of all the interruptions. Every time something seemed untoward they had to leave and every time it was a false alarm.
“I don’t want to scare you but there is someone across the room…”
“Where?” Kat asked, suddenly turning around.
“This is why I don’t tell you that information because you can’t be discreet, Pierce,” he noted, a grimace on his face.
“Enough with the theatrics,” Caroline muttered.
“The person in question looks like he wants to devour you and I don’t mean it in a nice way, Caroline.”
“Maybe he’s still hungry after the appetizer?” Kat suggested. “I know I am.”
“Do I need to call your sponsor?” Caroline asked, trying not to laugh.
“Enough, you two let’s go,” he gestured impatiently toward the exit.
“You’re really helping my dating life, you know that, Mikaelson?” Katherine asked, locating her purse and following him and Caroline from the room.
“You can stay as long as you like, Katherine,” he said, ushering them towards the exit. “Caroline’s mine.”
She should have been offended, he basically said he owned her like some chauvinistic ass, even if it probably wasn’t meant that way.
But for some reason she wanted him to mean it. And now it was too late. She felt the heat coil in her abdomen, the arousal that had been building for weeks between them threatening to spillover and Caroline was struggling to say the least.
She licked her lips, watching his taut behind move from side to side in those fitted suit pants thinking just what she wanted to do with him.
What came next she wasn’t expecting, three loud shots rang out and she felt his hard body envelop her, knocking her to the ground.
She was shocked, the fact she was also winded didn’t register, neither did the cries of the people in the room nor the general mayhem as they rushed to the exit all at once.
Suddenly darkness overtook her and everything went black.
-Klaus-
Present Day - Chastnaya Klinika Na Vernadskogo Private Hospital, Moscow
Klaus didn’t show emotion. He found that it just got in the way. He’d trained himself well over the past ten years in the Navy not to care about anything.
Klaus found without emotion he was unstoppable, focused and at his very best.
Now was not one of those times. And if he was being honest, Klaus knew that he’d shut her out of his life years earlier because the associated emotion would make him feel exactly like this.
Angry.
Confused.
Desperate.
All the things he hated because they made him extremely vulnerable and right now he needed to be able to protect Caroline.
He’d been in similar situations, gunfire wasn’t new, but with her it was. When her father called to ask he couldn’t say no. Not just because Bill had asked but because Klaus had missed her so much he ached.
He’d conveniently forgotten just how much his reappearance would affect Caroline and just how much their unresolved issues would be compounded.
And those two factors had combined together the past three months to create fireworks and not of the sexual kind, even if their tension was off the charts.
Being at the hospital brought back so many memories of a time when they were two very different people leading two very different lives.
12 years earlier - Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago Illinois, USA
“I came as soon as I finished work at the restaurant,” Klaus smiled, making his way to her bed side a bunch of white lilies , her favourite, in hand.  “If I have to make another tortellini it won’t be soon enough.”
His father owned an Italian restaurant in downtown Chicago, amongst other things, and Klaus worked there a couple of days after school a week.  He didn’t need the money but Mikael thought a job was good to build a strong constitution.
“I knew there was a reason I kept you around, Mikaelson,” she grinned, pulling him closer for a kiss. It was only when he pressed against her chest that she winced, her pain visible.
“I’m sorry,” he soothed. “At least tell me you fared better than the other person?”
“This is me we’re talking about,” she teased. “Hang on, how did you know there was someone else?”
“I’ve seen you yield that hockey stick. What exactly happened at practice?” He asked warmly, taking a seat and holding out his hand so she could place hers in it.
While Caroline attended Mount St Joseph Private Girls’ School, Klaus went to St Ignatius College Prep. A lot of their mutual friends were dating so were all part of the same group.
“It wasn’t my fault...”
“But yet starting your story like that tells me it’s probably the exact opposite, sweetheart.” She gave him a look which clearly meant she wasn’t thrilled by his response. “You know just saying.”
“In my defence…”
“This isn’t Judge Judy, Caroline. Just tell me what happened.”
“I fell over during our practice hockey match and bruised my ribs but it was totally worth it.”
“Why exactly?” He asked knowingly, a smile playing on his lips. “Fess up, Forbes.”
“I might have accidentally,” he gave her a look which clearly said he didn’t believe her. “Okay, I tripped Hayley Marshall with my hockey stick but she totally deserved it.”
“Oh really?”
“She said you were too hot for me and let’s just say I didn’t appreciate her for insulting my looks and fawning all over my boyfriend,” she seethed, her jealous tone not lost on Klaus. “If anyone gets to call you hot it’s going to be me not some whiny, doe eyed and, might I add, bad hockey player.”
“If you weren’t sporting an injury right now I’d show you just how hot I can be,” he said, emitting a low growl. “And she’s got nothing on you, love.”
“I’m far more resilient than you think,,” she purred, placing a lingering kiss on his mouth.
“So, today it’s tripping mean girls by hockey stick, how are you going to top this?” She rolled her eyes by way of response. “I know you like to run screaming in the opposite direction of your roots but maybe there’s more mafia in you than you think, Caroline Forbes.”
“My father will be so proud to hear his little girl is literally beating girls off you with a stick,” she drawled sarcastically. “But it’s my mother I get the hot temper from, don't forget.”
“I couldn’t forget that, love,” he shot back, thinking he’d been on the wrong end of her fiery nature more than once, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.  “It’s extremely arousing.”
“I wasn’t lying about the resilience either so you better get me out of here before I encourage you to not be so PG with me, Mikaelson.”
Present Day
“How is she?” Klaus was broken from his trance by a familiar face.
Enzo St John was Caroline’s Manager and although he was jealous to begin with, Klaus had come to like the guy even if he was a little weird sometimes.  He’d chosen not to go to the dinner in lieu of a date with a prima ballerina. From what Katherine told him, Enzo liked to experience the local talent wherever they travelled.
“I haven’t been in there,” he murmured knowing exactly why. “I, uh, had some phone calls to make.”
“But she’s going to be alright?”
“Yeah. Besides some bruising from the fall and a sprained ankle Caroline will be fine, I thought it was best to bring her in just in case.” Klaus knew he wasn’t the lightest of people and was worried that pushing her to the floor while throwing himself on top of her lithe figure might have caused some damage.
He’d never been so scared, even after years in the Navy. But that was because he was saving faceless civilians not the love of his life.
It scared him to think about it. But it was true.
“You did the right thing, I’m glad you were there to be honest, Katherine has a sharp tongue but when it comes to combat or protection of any kind she’s a pussy cat. But just don’t tell her I said that because she scares the hell out of me.”
Klaus fought the urge to smile thinking back to her interesting commentary about him compromising her dating life.
“Katherine’s gone home to nurse her hangover after one too many vodkas, so you’re safe. But It could have been much worse.”
“Thankfully you were there, if you hadn’t been I’m not sure what I would have done without my Care Bear,” Klaus again found himself suppressing a grin. And to think he was worried they were ever romantically involved.
“Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends. I had a chance to speak to the local police afterwards and they didn’t catch the perpetrator.”
“So, he’s still on the loose?” Klaus merely nodded knowing just how fraught the situation was.
Yes, they were dealing with a lot more than one person. They were dealing with the full force of the Chicago Mafia who could dispatch hundreds more people like the one tonight.  They wouldn’t stop until Bill Forbes’ daughter was killed in retribution for something she didn’t invite.
“I spoke to the Bolshoi Management and they have some safety concerns about the opera going ahead. Not just for Caroline but also the cast, crew and audience and I’m fairly certain this kind of threat isn’t covered by their public liability insurance.”
“Of course,” he replied. “I was going to suggest it be postponed indefinitely but I also enjoy living and knew Caroline wouldn’t see it that way.”
“Is this your way of telling me I need to break the bad news?”
“Well, you are her manager, I think it goes with the territory.”
“Fine,” he conceded. “Plus, she seems to have years of resentment stored up against you so at least I can take one for the team this time.”
“Thanks, I think.”
“I’m not going to even try and understand your situation or your past with Caroline but if you hurt her I will kill you,” he promised before breaking into a mischievous smile. “Oh who am I kidding? You’d crush me like a bug. But you get my drift, right?”
Before Klaus could even begin to know how to respond they were interrupted.
“Excuse me?” They both looked up to see a nurse coming from Caroline’s room. “She’s asking to see the idiot who sprained her ankle,” they both looked at her curiously. “Her words, not mine.”
“You’re completely on your own this time,” Enzo teased, his gaze now resting on the nurse who seemed to have taken his fancy.  “Maybe you can just tell her about the opera, you know while you’re in there anyway.”
He was chasing after the nurse before Klaus could respond. He really deserved a pay rise to deal with these people.
“I’m glad you cracked my code,” she drawled. Albeit a little dishevelled from the fall, Klaus didn’t think she could look anymore beautiful in her fitted, red gown with her blonde locks tumbling around her shoulders.
Suddenly it felt like déjà vu, like they were seventeen years-old again and she’d beaten up someone in a jealous rage. Times had changed in twelve years.
“It’s not the first time you’ve called me that and probably won’t be the last. Enzo is here but is currently trying to pick up your nurse and avoid telling you that the Bolshoi has decided to postpone the opera indefinitely due to safety concerns and Katherine needed to sleep off the vodka. Between you and me I’m glad they aren’t charged with protecting you, just saying.”
“It’s not over is it?” Her demeanour had rapidly changed from teasing to deathly serious.
She was scared and Klaus was too.
“They didn’t catch the shooter, no,” he offered. “But, if anything, this will serve as a deterrent to…”
“Please tell me you’re not saying what you think I want to hear,” she murmured. “Not after everything we’ve been through. This guy was put behind bars because my father framed him and this is called settling the score. Thanks, dad.”
“He didn’t do it,” Klaus replied, taking a seat on the bed and looking into her eyes. Klaus knew she could tell if he was lying and hoped that this would prove it to her. “Your father never framed him, it was an inside job. He’s doing everything he can to try and put a stop to this at his end, trust me on that.”
“Yeah because my father is such a saint.”
“I never said that,” Klaus agreed. “But this time it’s different.”
“Is it?” She asked, her blue eyes clouded with unshed tears. “Between you and me it feels a lot like the good, old days. And my father wonders why I needed to get away from him and that messed up life.”
“He understood it’s what you needed to do and he did let you go, Caroline. He’s so proud of you and what you’ve achieved, whatever you think he’s always loved you and wanted what was best.”
“Since when have you been my father’s biggest fan? I seem to recall you wanting to leave just as much, if not more, than me. You couldn’t wait to go and then one day you were just gone. I came to your house and that was it.”
“You were leaving me,” he bit back, frustrated that she got to be mad at him but he didn’t get the same chance. “You’d already been accepted to the music conservatory, I just got a head start I suppose.”
“But I would have said goodbye at least,” she mumbled just as the few tears that had been threatening to fall rolled down her creamy cheeks. “I must have read your letter hundreds of times, I’m surprised the ink hasn’t worn off completely.”
“I was a coward I know,” he admitted, instinctively wiping the tears away with his thumb. “And you don’t know how much I regret not saying it in person. But it was too damn hard. Life back then was too damn hard because escaping from that life meant, unfortunately, escaping from each other too.”
“I know,” she nodded. “But there hasn’t been a day in the last ten years that I haven’t thought about you and what we had,” she whimpered, fingering the gold necklace she kept safely around her neck. The one he gave her all those years ago.
“When I saw you wearing that, I thought that maybe there was a chance that,” he broke off, too overcome with emotion to finish that sentence. “And when those shots rang out tonight all I could think was that I hoped those ten years apart and finding each other again wasn’t for nothing.”
“I’m fine, although I’m not sure for how much longer.”
“Don’t talk like that,” he insisted. “Although, I do think it’s time to leave.”
“Leave where?”
“Back home. You can only run so far and for so long. I can only do so much. To these people the law doesn’t matter, borders don’t matter. Europe, North America it doesn’t matter.  You’ve been running your whole life you just didn’t realise it.”
“So have you.”
“I have, I admit it.  I thought that escaping to the Navy was going to somehow erase where I came from. But it seems like it has caught up to me like it has you. You need to go back, if anything just to sort this out with your father. I know you’re mad at him but he has the capacity and the resources to protect you, I don’t.”
“And what about you? Are you going to just up and leave me again? I remember once you said you’d never leave me alone.”
“And I meant it.”
“You really shouldn’t make promises if you’re not going to keep them,” she smiled despite everything. “I can’t believe I’m going to say this but, fine, let’s go back to Chicago.”
“And that’s what we’ll do once everything has died down in a month or two.”
“So, what exactly do we do until then?”
“We need to collect ourselves and be prepared for what’s to come.”
“Why do I suddenly feel like I’m in some post-apocalyptic movie? Are you going to take me out to the middle of nowhere and teach me how to defend myself?”
“You’ve seen this one then I assume?”
“You’ve got to be kidding me?”
“On the contrary, love, I’m deathly serious. An old colleague of mine has a cabin in the Austrian mountains. Nothing fancy but it’ll do.”
There was also only one bed but Klaus decided he’d broach that topic once they arrived. Yes, he knew that being with her in the middle of nowhere for two months was going to test every last shred of willpower but he welcomed the challenge.
He didn’t know it but, at the exact time, Caroline was thinking the same thing. And neither one was altogether upset by their impending predicament.
Once they dealt with that then they could face the bad guys once and for all.

All That’s Best Chapter Six
Dark!Steve x Reader
Masterlist
Warnings: non con, dub con
Steve had no idea how long he had been here. If he had to guess, it had been a week at least, probably more. The lack of sunlight or any other daily cues left him constantly wondering. He lived with no routine. Even your presence wasn’t guaranteed on any given day. But when you were there, you made sure he would never forget. There were times he would black out from the pain you inflicted on him and every time he passed out he went into the darkness knowing he deserved it. You didn’t even want information from him. You were humiliated and hurting from what he had done and wanted to hurt him back.
He was no sadist but the way you touched him drove him mad. Even the way your dug your knife across the hard planes of his chest had him yearning for you when you left. He knew he was a goner and sick for what he had done to you. But didn’t he deserve his happy ending after all he did? After all he gave for the world? And now here he was so absolutely in love with you that he could barely stand to lay here and banter with you and call you names he didn’t really mean. Sure he was angry, he was pissed.
You had set him up. Or maybe he had set himself up. Your mission, as he was starting to assume, was just to get close to him, start a relationship with him. His personal mission was to make you his in every way, make you his wife and the mother of his children because that was what he deserved.
Even in your torture of him, he still loved you. A stupid part of him held out hope that this was a dream or that somehow someway things would work out. He knew you were only human. Of course you wanted revenge. Steve had taken your freedom and your dignity in a matter of hours and expected obedience. Now he was reaping the rewards of his efforts.
When you finally did come back into the room, he was desperate for your presence. He didn’t care if it was one of your torture techniques or a way to mind break him, he would do anything just to be close to you. And sure, you were a HYDRA agent but how bad could you really be? Lots of people in HYDRA were just normal people that had been radicalized by their ideas. If you could be brainwashed one way, he was sure it could be undone. Even Bucky’s conditioning had been destroyed so he had hope for you. For both of you.
You straddled him as you usually did, smiling while you laid your body against him with your face inches from his.
“Guess what?” you asked, entirely too jovial for your surroundings. He didn’t humor you with a response which made you frown a bit, but you immediately recovered.
“I’m pregnant.”
His mind was going a million miles a second. This was exactly what he wanted. Not in these surroundings but that could be fixed. Steve wished he could hold you, just put his arms around you. How long had it been anyway? The first time he fucked you had to have been over a month before he got here and he wasn’t sure how long he had actually been in this facility. He was beaming with joy and you slapped him as hard as you could.
You clearly had the upper hand here along with being a practiced liar and seemingly a sleeper agent. He had to consider that even with how much you all had sex, you could be lying. Another mental torture technique.
“You’re a liar,” he said. He didn’t even believe himself.
“Do I have to explain how babies are made to you? You can’t possibly understand how much you’ve helped me. When you were holding me down and having your way with me, I was so upset. So shocked that the first avenger would do something like this. I hated you. Then I got back here and I started thinking. You might have just given me the opportunity of lifetime.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I don’t know how they made you. No one alive does. But I don’t have to waste time reinventing the wheel when I have a live specimen in front of me,” you trailed off, staring him down.
“You want...to use this baby to—“
“Yup.”
“I won’t let my child be a HYDRA pawn.” Steve’s face hardened. You were serious. This was your pet project and you were so invested that you would put yourself up as an incubator. You weren’t just another HYDRA foot soldier, you really believed in their ideology and wanted to see your plans through. Even if it involved innocent children.
“This baby is the property of HYDRA. You are the property of HYDRA. Replace HYDRA with my name and you’re starting to get the picture. Imagine it. Organically made super soldiers. Sounds cool, right? Please drop that pouty face.”
“Why are you doing this? We could be happy together.”
“Oh, you’re right. We will be happy together. Just a few more preparations and we can go home, sweetheart.”
“Preparations?”
“Yup. You’ll see in a couple hours. Well, you won’t remember in a couple hours. Oops, that kind of gave away the secret, huh? Oh well. Rest up, champ. You’ve got a big day ahead of you.”
Your departure was unceremonious. You climbed off of him and out the door, slamming it behind you and letting Steve hear all the mechanical whirring it did when it closed. You were going to wipe him. Do what they did to Bucky. He didn’t know why or what information you were going to try to put in his head. You said that you all would be happy together and you would be going home. That sounded nice but he knew there was more.
He didn’t know exactly what your intentions were for the baby. Of course it was something fucked up because you had called the baby organically made like something you pick up at a farmers market, not a child. Not your child.
......
You weren’t necessarily enthused about what you had to do. Steve was a good man who had kind of lost it. That was easy to see but this wad your new mission, your new idea to preserve your ideology. Things had really fallen into place in your favor. You supposed since no one was having luck recreating the serum, you might as well take a crack at it.
You were setting up to wipe him alone. This particular base was nearly empty except for a few guards and some other researchers. No one else was qualified to do what you did. If Steve did manage to escape that room, you’d all probably be fucked. You had some contingency plans for him but you were only one person and he was faster than you. This had to go quickly and smoothly.
Steve really was his own downfall. He wanted privacy so none of his friends were sure where he lived. Except maybe Bucky, but you weren’t sure. Bucky might be a problem. But it would be easy enough to keep him distracted and away from the house while you all settled in. Besides, it wouldn’t even matter after Steve woke up. He’d be hopelessly dedicated to you and not even remember being here. You could infiltrate the Avengers from the top down. Feed him bits of propaganda, get him to join your cause. He would have no choice but to comply.
Just a little more time and your plan could unfold.
........
Steve was raging, thinking about the ramifications of this situation. If you changed his memories or took some away, there was no telling what he would do. From what he knew, HYDRA could completely change a person. Put new ideas in their head and convince them to do things.
He had seen it firsthand with his best friend. Although Bucky was recovering, things were still hard. There were still memories he didn’t have and things he was still getting used to. And that was after tons of rehab and therapy.
Steve’s prowess as a hero had been used to help people. To save lives and promote justice. Maybe he had done well, maybe he had failed at it, but he had tried. And now it all seemed pointless. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t break the restraints he was in. He wasn’t strong enough and that broke him. Because he wasn’t strong enough, people might get hurt.
No.
Because he was selfish, people might get hurt. None of this would have happened if he hadn’t taken you. Without you being a distraction for him, he would have been more on his guard, waiting for any possible attack. But the attacker was there all along.
The last time he saw you was rough. You had dropped in not long ago, just to screw with him. Despite your claims to the contrary, you seemed happy to terrorize him. Torturing him with patterns drawn into his body with a knife. His healing factor seemed to make you more inclined to mark him up. When you left, Steve memorized the look in your eyes, the stance you took. You were clearly angry, vindictive even. Your departure was accompanied with the promise that you would be back soon to “fix” him.
He had to wonder if you knew about Bucky. Steve hadn’t made any mention of him while you were at his house, but considering you were a HYDRA agent, you probably knew about the Asset. If you were so willing to wipe Steve yourself, you had probably done this before on someone else. Maybe even Bucky. The thought of it made him sick.
The door opened. .......... “Steve, do you love me?” Your eyes were filled with determination, staring fiercely at the man you had recreated. His gaze bore into your own, completely devoted and submissive to your will.
“Of course I do,” he confirmed easily. You nodded.
“You’ll do anything for me?”
“Anything.”
“Would you die for me?”
“Of course.”
“Would you kill for me?”
“Absolutely.”
“There are people that want to keep us apart. They’re afraid of what we could do together. They’d take the baby.”
“I wouldn’t let that happen.”
From behind your back, you produced his shield, all shiny and polished for him. A gun was held in your other hand. You handed both of them over to him. He took them, looking a bit perplexed, while he waited for you to continue.
“Good. I want you to kill everyone in this building except for me and you.”
He gave the briefest of nods before he was out the door.
There weren’t that many people in the base. HYDRA was a dying organization and you supposed you weren’t helping. It would be fine. This was your project, your life and your work. You didn’t want anyone else to jump in and take credit or try to tell you how to accomplish your goals.
The sounds of bullets pinging against walls picked up in the rooms around you. Screaming. Confusion. Chaos. Controlled chaos. Controlled by you. It wasn’t hard to imagine Steve as a killer. He was determined and detrimentally single minded regarding his goals. What he wanted, he got, but now his wants aligned with your own.
The whole affair only took a few minutes. Steve returned to you with fire in his eyes. Blood dripping off of his clothes and even on the gun carried. The stench of his murders permeated the air as he looked to you for guidance, for further instruction. His chest heaved with exertion and adrenaline nearly ran off of him in waves. A look further down and you recognized his killing spree had gotten him worked up in more than one way.
“Are they all gone?”
“Dead. Everyone,” he confirmed. Your hand came to caress his face and he leaned into your touch.
“You did so good for me.”
Hearing your approval drive him wild. So he would listen. Do whatever you pleased. Anything to make you happy, anything to make you look at him like you were now. He would kill a million more people if it would just make you smile at him.
“Let’s go home, honey,” you told him.

Skulduggery Pleasant: Raising Cain - Chapter 5
Chapter 5 - One step forward, two steps back
Bear, Weasel and Snake went to the mansion while Crow, Wolf and Stephanie waited for Panda to finish the protective clothes for her. She had already switched her thick jacket for a vest and her trousers for the protective ones. Panda had already started the shoes, which were curing while he worked on the coat. He had allowed Stephanie to help him make it, and she had picked out a deep blue lining and black matt buttons, as well as how many pockets she’d have which was greatly influenced by Wolf as he told her all the pockets he found himself needing when in combat and wishing he had packed this object or that. She had four pockets on the inside and as many on the outside – one on the inside was specifically for money and Panda had decided to make a little pocket on the inside of her trousers for Crow to put some folded cash in so if she needed it in an emergency so she’d never have to worry.
She had smiled at them all, thankful for them looking out for her and also for helping her get into all the adventures she wanted. She’d be the most prepared adventurer ever at this rate.
When she slipped the coat on and looked in the mirror she couldn’t help but admire herself. It felt like she’d been wearing it for months, tight where she needed it to be and loose where she would be moving, like her elbows. It was beautiful.
“Panda, this is incredible,” she said. “I love it.”
“It’s alright. I put it on Skulduggery’s tab.”
She laughed and jumped into her boots. They were just as incredible. “Have you heard from the others?”
“No,” Crow said, sounding annoyed. “I’ve tried calling them too.”
Panda looked up from where he was clearing up scraps. “You know what that probably means, don’t you?”
“Serpine is there.”
They set off immediately – the others had taken the van, so Panda and Wolf sat in the back of Crows Bentley – and raced to the mansion. The metal gates were still open, and Stephanie didn’t see any vehicles other than Gordon’s old one and the van, but the door had been ripped off its hinges.
There were no sounds from inside.
Crow put a finger to his teeth and they quietly followed him into the house, sticking to the walls and sliding through the bottom floor without incident. They also failed to find any signs of entry to the cave system. Finally, they moved to the bottom of the stairs and Panda used his elemental magic to check if there was anyone there. They didn’t wanted to accidently alert anyone to their presence. He held up eight fingers to the left and the pointed to the right and indicated six. They had to split up.
Wolf and Stephanie went to the right to find the six. They went quietly, tiptoeing towards to people. Stephanie couldn’t stop her heart from pounding so loudly. But with Wolf, she wasn’t exactly scared. Or rather, she wasn’t scared for herself. She felt nervous for the others that weren’t with her, worried they’d be hurt.
Wolf seemed to have homed in on them with a sixth sense Stephanie had every intention of developing and there were gentle voices coming from within the room he’d taken her to. She didn’t recognise any voices behind the thick doors.
Wolf pressed himself against the other side of the door and got a gun out from she didn’t know were. Stephanie looked at him. He held up three fingers…
Two…
One…
She reached out and burst into the room, Wolf backing her up with the gun over her head. She darted forwards and tackled a man to the floor with no particular thought to what she was doing and it somehow worked. She managed to punch him once in the nose, and he grunted in pain, but gripped her arms far too tight and lifted her off him, into the air and got up just to slam her onto the table. She was dazed and it took her a moment to realise she’d been dropped in favour of Wolf who was covered in a purple mist and straining not to scream.
Stephanie’s eyes widened. They were in the presence of Serpine himself.
She tried not to get distracted and tried to get through the other guards – Wolf had already taken out two and Serpine was distracted by Wolf. But on second look, she realised they weren’t men. They were nasty, papery looking creatures. She ran at the closest, feeling his body cave in when she pushed into it but then its balled up hands came crashing into her back and she choked as the air rushed from her lungs. She stumbled, holding onto its papery skin, and when she finally fell she accidently ripped its skin. Unfortunately, whilst she learnt how to kill it, she also learnt it was made of toxic, disgusting gas that hit her in the face just when she started sucking in lungsful of air.
Her eyes watered awfully and she coughed so much she thought she might throw up. When the other paper thing finally got to her from around the table, she was able to wrap her arms around it and claw open its back before it had time to do more damage.
She finally turned back to Wolf, who was still screaming in pain and clenching his eyes shut, and the two men hurting him. She didn’t know what to do about Serpine. The other man, however, she could deal with even as he consulted his master on what weapon to use to hurt her brother more as the mist continued to torture him. She felt rage pass through her like nothing else. She got her breathing stable and slowly picked up the long dagger, or perhaps short sword, or whatever it was, and got a firm grip. Serpine was looking at Wolf with glee, not quite able to see her but any closer and she was a goner. The other man had his back to her but only for a moment. She licked her lips.
Wolf opened his eyes and stared at her. She glanced at him.
The man started to turn.
She launched forwards and swung her arm far above her head and brought it down before the man knew what she was holding.
The blade went almost fully into his flesh and he looked down at it with something between horror and shock.
She pulled it on and he fell to the floor.
Serpine started to laugh and she looked at him. Wolf had fallen to the floor and wasn’t moving and panic flashed through her as she hoped he wasn’t dead. Serpine started to clap with his two weird hands – one was normal, albeit very vain-y, whilst the other looked skinned but didn’t bleed. That hand she understood. It had been modified, somehow, to have a second magic that’s sole purpose, and ability, was to torture others.
Her heart jumped when he took a step towards her. She had her knife and held it in front of her with both hands.
“Stand where you are!” She shouted at the War Lord.
He laughed in her face but stayed still. “Oh no, a little girly has a little knife! Whatever shall I do?” He grinned at her and she finally understood what Gordon meant when he had talked about evil smiles. “You know, your friend Skulduggery Pleasant had a knife just like that once. He tried to kill me with it. Did he tell you? About how he wouldn’t stop getting in my way and I was forced to kill his wife and child? It wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t using you. You know that he’ll drop you the moment something better comes along, right? He’s a very selfish man.”
There was a bang from somewhere and the whole house shook. She heard footsteps banging towards them and she gave him a watery grin. “You won’t get away. They’re going to kill you and then this will be over. You shouldn’t have killed my Uncle.”
He chuckled. “You’re right. Because I don’t know where the Sceptre is. But I bet I know who does.”
He used his red hand again and Stephanie was covered in that purple mist, screaming, before she could do anything with the knife. It clattered to the ground. The door was thrown open and she didn’t know who it was but he looked harassed.
She groaned suddenly as the pain got too much and her head hit the ground. She passed out.

[13:42] Unknown Number: Hello, darling. Long time no speak.
Everything around the woman fades out as she reads over the text on her phone screen. There’s no way it’s him, right? But deep down she knows it is. She knows. Because no-one, no-one, calls her darling. Nobody except him.
But, why? Why now? Why is he messaging her.
[13:44] Unknown Number: I was thinking about how much I missed you and realised that I need you back
She gulps. She gulps because she knows what he means. Whenever he wants- needs something, he will stop at nothing to get it. The thought terrifies her.
[13:45] Unknown Number: So, dinner tomorrow? On me? That Italian place you love on third?
A shiver shakes her body to the core. Her body is trembling at this point. No way. There’s no way.
[13:47] Unknown Number: Don’t ignore me, you know my only flaw is my patience
Only flaw… The thing about working for SHIELD is that they know everything about the woman’s physical body. All her medical information. They have stored every single time she was taken to hospital because of accidents.
(Y/N)’s life dream was to work with SHIELD and she knew they would run background checks, so anytime she knew she’d have to go to the hospital for the battering that he left on her body, she moved to locations and rang the ambulance for a better story. The side of a road with no CCTV footage - hit and run. Outside a bar - drunken antics. Near the minimal farms nearby - animals. All these excuses because SHIELD couldn’t find out about him.
So, when Tony Stark saw her fighting techniques for the first time, he was swept off of his feet the same way he was when he first met Natasha. Pepper could only laugh and assure him that she was too young and way out of his league. He became like a father to her from that point on and she has the honour of being an Avenger.
[13:51] Unknown Number: Meet me outside at 7
He stops texting her after. She can’t tell anyone at SHIELD because they’d kill him. That’s how much she means to the team. Clint is like her brother, and Natasha like her sister - they’re such a kickass trio on the battlefield. Tony, as mentioned, is more or less her father - given her own died in an assassination and the Avengers were too late to stop. He feels like he owes it to her. To be there for her because he couldn’t save her own father. Pepper is like her mother in that sense too.
The rest of them, bar the two super soldiers, are all her best friends. (Y/N) never fails to bring happiness, enthusiasm, optimism and support to the team and they adore her for it. They’ve all definitely concluded that she’s the best thing that happened to them. They’d be so lost without her. Wanda and Bucky confirm that fact especially - she helped them when they were having the most self-destructive thoughts about the actions they’d done. She assured them it wasn’t their fault with words that they managed to truly believe. They’ll never be able to repay the debt for that. Not that (Y/N) expects them to.
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes are the woman’s two boyfriends. She remembers when she first fell for both of them. It was literally both at the same time, she knew she was fucked. She entered the common room to meet all the team and when her eyes locked with the two pairs of gorgeous, ocean blue, looking at her with just as much surprise and adoration, she knew she was a goner.
(Y/N) later learnt that Steve and Bucky were already in a relationship, and despite the fight she was selfishly heartbroken, she was also extremely happy for the couple and showed them her support constantly. It truly made their hearts swell. Until the night of Tony’s New Year’s Eve party. Her first ever one.
*** Flashback ***
She caught eye of The Winter Soldier across the room, leaning against the bar, looking absolutely dashing in his suit, and she couldn’t help but lick her lips, followed by her biting her lower one. Bucky saw it and he mirrored the action himself as he eyed up her curves. The way the red dress clung to her body. They met each others gaze and they were silently questioning one another. Until Bucky gains the confidence to gesture toward the balcony with his head, watching her immediately nod and sit her empty glass of champagne down on the table beside her.
She gets there first and turns around, watching him stride through the crowd, eyes only locking with hers, not caring about anyone else. She has no idea what he wants her out here for. Her head is running around with wild ideas but she knows none of them are true. Well, she thought she did until he didn’t stop until his hands were on her hips and his lips were on her own, tongue instantly invading her mouth. She moans. Hands reaching up to grasp at his blazer, pulling him impossibly closer.
They lost all patience and they forgot where they were, Bucky reaching his hands down to her thighs, lifting her up and feeling her legs wrap around his waist, dress hoisted up around her own. Her back hits the wall beside the door and their lips are still yet to part.
Meanwhile, Steve had come back from the bathroom and eyes the room with furrowed brows as Bucky is no longer where he said he’d wait.
“He’s on the balcony with (Y/N).” Sam’s voice catches his attention. “Nat and I made a bet with Clint about what they’re doing.”
The way he wiggles his brows makes Steve smirk.
“I want in on this bet.” The blond mutters, turning to his friend.
“Yeah? What’re you betting?” Nat asks, approaching the duo.
“That he’s starting without me.” The Cap winks at the woman and strides toward the balcony, leaving an amused Natasha and Sam behind. “You know there’s almost a thousand people on the other side of that wall.”
The voice doesn’t stop Bucky and (Y/N) from their heated make-out session in the slightest, only makes the woman moan before reluctantly pulling back and looking at the man.
“Makes it all the more exciting, Stevie.” She grins, assuming that her encounter with Bucky wasn’t going to hurt him since Buck didn’t stop.
“Can’t argue with that, sweetheart.” The man takes a step forward to kiss his brunet lover, only pulling back when her hears (Y/N) mewl and ogle the sight. “You alright, doll?” Bucky grins, still holding her up.
“Steve…” Is all she whispers. He raises a brow and keeps an amused smirk on his face.
“Yes, angel?”
She whimpers again, moving her hips against Bucky’s, prompting him to groan.
“I…” She can’t even finish her sentence, suddenly feeling self conscious.
“Say it, baby.” Bucky breathes, using one arm to keep her up against the wall whilst the other tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
“Kiss me.” Her voice is breathless and Steve immediately complies.
“God, this is the hottest thing I’ve ever seen.” The Winter Soldier admires. “Doll, what would you say if I told you that we wanted you properly?”
(Y/N) pulls back and looks absolutely surprised but so pleasantly surprised.
“Yeah, we want you.” Steve answers her unspoken question. “That is, if you want both of us.”
She nods, instantly.
“Yes. God, fuck, yes, oh my God.”
The men grin.
“The second we laid our eyes on you, my God…” Bucky comments.
“Likewise…” (Y/N) smiles, kissing them both once more.
“Ooh, Tony’s gonna love this.” Sam’s voice speaks up once more, prompting the trio to look over and see him stood there with Clint, Nat and Tony himself.
“I swear to Christ…” The billionaire groans.
“I feel like I’m missing something?” (Y/N) whispers, Sam and Clint laughing as Nat smirks, Tony covering his face.
“The day Tony caught the lovely stain that those two left on the black sofa.” Sam smiles, (Y/N) giggling.
“I swear I’ll clean up after ourselves.” She laughs.
“I DON’T EVEN WANNA IMAGINE YOU-“ Tony cuts himself off with another groan.
“She’s in her mid-twenties, Tony. The woman’s gonna have sex.” Nat comments, smirking,
“SHUT UP!” He yells, everyone laughing as he storms back inside.
*** Flashback End ***
The mistake (Y/N) made was not going to that restaurant at seven. Because then it didn’t stop. She blocked numbers but then he added her on social media. She blocked all the accounts but he made new ones and added her quicker than she could block them. She could call the police for harassment purposes but she’s scared. She’ll have to go to court and it’ll be all over the news. She can vision it.
AVENGER, (Y/N) (L/N), IN COURT FOR HARRASSMENT CASE?!
She doesn’t want to deal with that and she can’t put that reputation onto SHIELD. Not after everything Nick and Tony have done for her to get here.
What scares the others is the little differences they notice in her attitude but just assume she’s tired. They have all undeniably been fighting a lot recently. What triggers her is the most that comes through. The letters.
“(Y/N), you have post.” Clint calls, throwing the envelope across the room to her. She catches it and rips it open, curious as to who’s sending her letters, but then her eyes widen as she looks at two images. One of her half-way through getting dressed, taken through the balcony doors in her room, and the other of her sitting in her favourite coffee shop in town just on the phone, hand wrapped around the mug contains hot chocolate.
Her eyes are wide and she’s trembling. Turning the photo over, expecting no less, there’s a note:
I know everything, darling. I know how much of a whore you are for those soldiers. Wait til I get my hands on them. Or they remain unscathed if you come home to me
Fortunately, the message doesn’t frighten her because she knows that Dec, her ex, couldn’t do anything to even scratch her two super soldiers. They’re not at risk in the slightest. Declan is just a regular citizen, it’s just a message to scare her, but it won’t work. Thinking tactically, she heads to her room and stores the photos in the box. The box that also has printed copies of every single text message he’s ever sent her. She can’t stop the tears that overflow, or the sob that escapes her as she looks at all of it.
She doesn’t know what to do. She knows, she knows, that she needs to tell someone. At least Steve and Bucky, but she can’t. She’s scared. So scared. She doesn’t know what of really.
Weeks pass and she receives more and more photos. More and more messages. She loses it one day. She’s just having one of those days where you feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders and you just want to lay in bed and do absolutely nothing. One of those days. But then Steve and Buck come strolling in from their mission and smile at the girl who’s standing at their balcony doors, staring out.
“Hey, doll face.” Buck smiles.
“Sweetheart.” Steve adds, watching her turn around and smile, effortlessly lighting up their whole life once again.
“Hey! How was the mission? As easy as it sounded?” She grins, watching them nod, removing their heavy gear.
“You know it.” The brunet grins. “This came for you by the way.” He adds, watching her face contort into absolute fear.
She takes a step back and hits the glass doors of their balcony, shaking her head.
“No, no, no, no, no, no, no, please, God, no more.” She whispers, tears forming and the men are instantly panicking.
“Hey, hey, hey, woah, it’s okay, you’re okay.” Bucky coos, dashing to her side as Steve does the other.
“Look at us, sweetheart.” Steve murmurs, watching her shake her head as her eyes remain locked on the envelope Bucky dropped on the bed.
He gulps and looks back at it.
“Baby, what is it?” His voice sounds scared himself.
“Please,” She whimpers, glancing from one soldier to the other. “Please, make it stop.”
The sound of how broken her voice is, on top of the fact she’s begging them to help her with something they don’t know about scares them and infuriates them at the same time.
The pair know she’s gotten a lot of post over the last month but they just assumed it was a friend or something. Nothing they desperately need to know about.
“Please.” She repeats, watching Steve turn and grab the envelope.
Her eyes meet his and he looks at her for some form of permission to open it.
“Make it stop.” Is all she says.
“Let’s sit you down on the bed, doll.” Bucky suggests, helping her to do so, sitting off the edge as he sits beside her, Steve remaining standing as he opens up the envelope.
The sight makes Steve’s eyes widen and his jaw drop. There’s about ten photos, all about the average post-it note size, of (Y/N), his girl, in random places. The fact that they’re all mostly zoomed in on her assets - her bare legs, up her skirt as much as possible, her breasts, cleavage, ass - makes his blood boil. He notices the black ink on the back of all of them. A variation of messages.
Come back to me or I’ll make you
Those soldiers will not last a second if you don’t do as you’re told
Be a good girl for me
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. Soon to be deceased.
I thought we’d learnt about being disobedient
You’re still as sexy as ever
They don’t deserve you
Remember how submissive you were for me?
He stops reading and snaps his head up to meet her scared expression.
“What is this?!” He asks, voice tense.
Bucky snatches the envelope out of his hand and also looks over the photos and messages, eyes ablaze with a fire that nobody could even attempt to put out.
“Please make it stop.” (Y/N) simply sobs, Steve crouching in front of her and taking her shaking hands in his own.
“(Y/N), sweetheart, I need you to explain this to us.” He mutters, hoping to ease an explanation out of her.
She releases a shaky exhale and looks over to her closet.
“There’s a box in my wardrobe.” She whispers, Steve nodding and heading over to get it, finding it with ease.
“May I?” He asks, gesturing to the lid. She nods, watching him tense up all over at the sight of even more photos. Ones of her half-dressed.
Explains why she no longer likes the curtains open.
He scans over all of the snapshots of texts and accounts and numbers that she’s saved. Bucky also leaning over to look at it all.
“Who is it?” Bucky asks, voice strained. She gulps.
“My ex.”
“We’ve got to tell Tony and Fury, (Y/N).” Steve comments, glancing up at her fearful eyes as she nods, more tears escaping.
“I know. I know, just please… Make it stop.”
“Hey, hey,” The Winter Soldier coos, wrapping his arms around her, side on, and holding her close. “We’re gonna make it stop, baby, I promise. We’re gonna make it stop.”
(Y/N) nods and curls herself into him.
“I swear, we’re going to make it stop, sweetheart.” Steve adds, resting his hands on her knees from his crouched position. “FRIDAY, call Tony into the conference room and get Nick on call - tell him it’s urgent.”
“Director Fury is in the tower, Captain.” The AI responds.
“Even better, bring them both.”
///
“What’s going on?” Fury asks as the two soldiers enter the room, (Y/N) curled up in the arms of Bucky.
“What’s wrong?” Tony adds, standing up and looking at the girl, worriedly.
Steve throws the box on the table, it slides toward Tony and he stops it with his hand.
“Look in it.” The blond growls. Bucky sits the girl down on one of the chairs and kisses her forehead.
“What the fuck is this?” Tony breathes, scanning over all the photos, the messages, the usernames, everything.
“(Y/N)’s ex has been sending her these for…” Steve trails off, turning to look at his girlfriend for an answer.
“A month.” She whispers.
“(L/N), can you tell us who he is? Where he lives? What he does?” Nick quizzes, sounding interrogating but the look on his face holds care.
“Declan Anderson. He’s my ex. Dated for four years. He-“ She chokes up.
“It’s okay, doll.” Bucky soothes, stroking her back.
“FRIDAY, can you pull up my medical history - hospital trips.” The girl calls, the AI complying and displaying the items on the screen. “All of those reasons are lies.” She explains, gesturing to the reason she ended up in hospital.
“It was him.” Tony whispers, eyes wide as he turns back to look at her.
Sure, he’d seen these files before, but this, this was learning that someone dared lay their hands on her.
“He hurt you.” The billionaire repeats, Steve and Bucky also staring with wide eyes at the screen that displays the images of bruising on her skin.
She doesn’t react, just stares at the screen with teary eyes.
“Oh my God, sweetheart.” Steve utters, turning to look at his girl.
“Please, make it stop.” She repeats for the nth time. Tony and Fury look at the woman in shock of how vulnerable and how desperate she sounds.
This is the woman who daren’t ever ask for anything and never complains about a thing. The woman who can take on Loki and probably HYDRA single handedly, and yet this bastard can break her down to a scared little girl.
She could look death in the face and not be scared.
“We will. I promise.” Tony says with a firm nod of his head.
///
The next couple of weeks are a bit better because Tony goes through all letters for (Y/N) and opens them before they get to her, keeping the images.
That is until one day when she needs to go down to reception of the tower and pick up some documents and she sees him.
“You should know better than to keep my waiting, darling.” He grins, the entire threatening look on his face having not changed at all since she last saw him a couple of years ago, before she joined SHIELD. Before Tony found her and brought her here. Saved her.
“What- What’re you doing here?” She whispers, but he hears her.
“Coming to collect what’s mine.”
What he fails to realise, amongst the busy reception where no-one is batting an eyelid, is that Happy is watching the entire thing from the door. He doesn’t know who the man is but he knows enough by (Y/N)’s facial expression that she doesn’t want him there. Despite this, the reasons for that are unbeknowst to him and therefore he doesn’t want to get involved if it’s just a small argument. Stark would hate him.
He calls Stark but it goes straight to voicemail.
“FRIDAY,”
“Yes, Mister Hogan?” The AI responds on his watch.
“Get Tony, Steve and Bucky down here. Tell them it’s urgent - it’s (Y/N).” He states.
“Of course.”
And then he approaches the duo, hoping to hear their conversation.
“Please, leave me alone.” (Y/N) pleads, her voice quiet. Scared.
The man, Declan, laughs.
“Not a chance. I leave here with you or not at all.”
(Y/N) flickers her eyes around and meets Happy’s questioning, worried glare. Suddenly, as if remembering where she is, who she’s with, the woman gains confidence.
“No. I’m not going back to you. I refuse to let you control me again. I’m an Avenger now and you’re pushing your luck by even being in this tower so I suggest you leave before I make you.” She demands, and just when she thought she’d won, the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out a photo.
Smirking, he holds it up and shows her, and it’s that picture. The picture of when she was with him and he tied her down to the bed and absolutely tore her apart. She’s naked. Completely and utterly nude. Tied up. Battered and bruised.
“Should I publish this?” He grins, watching her confidence shatter as quickly as it came.
“Leave me alone.” She whispers. “You fucking asshole.” Her voice is tense as she tries to keep her tears at bay. “They’ll kill you.”
He knows who she’s referring to but also doesn’t give a shit.
“I’m taking you first.”
“Like hell you are.”
“You stupid bitch.” He hisses, striding forwards and raising his fist, (Y/N) widening her eyes and squealing.
It echoes across the entire reception but no-one sees the follow up of what could’ve been as a metal arm grasps the man’s raised fist.
Arms wrap around the girl and turn her so she’s facing their chest. She inhales. Steve.
Bucky has to calm himself before he can react any further. He’s about ready to kill all over again after seeing this bastard raise his hand to his girl. Seeing the fear and shock on her face as he did.
Steve keeps his eyes on Bucky’s to keep him grounded and it works. The brunet nods as a thanks which Steve returns.
“You son of a fucking bitch.” The Winter Soldier growls, twisting the man’s hand until he hears the wrist snap. The cry that rips from his throat catching nobodies attention as Happy and Tony had got them all out and closed off reception temporarily.
Tony comes over and doesn’t hesitate to wrap his hands around the man’s throat and shove him up against one of the walls. Dec’s eyes are wide as he tries to fight the CEO but it’s useless.
“You’re the bastard that’s been torturing her. That’s hurt her. That’s threatened her and torn her apart, and yet she’s still stronger than you. How does that make you feel?!” He roars, not letting his grip loosen at all.
“Tony…” Pepper whispers from aside, but he simply narrows his eyes.
“Why her?!” The man hisses, Declan fighting for oxygen.
“I love her!” He gasps, and that’s when Tony throws him onto the ground.
Bucky follows up with a large punch - with his metal hand - straight to the man’s face. Twice. Knocking him out.
“I wanna kill him.” He growls, Steve reaching out with the arm that’s not around their girl and pulling him to them.
“I know.”
Tony turns to look at the trio.
“(Y/N),” He calls, watching her turn her head that’s resting on Steve’s chest. “He’ll never contact or see you again.”
She nods, Steve hating the trembling that he feels all over her body.
“You’re safe, doll, I promise you.” Bucky whispers, leaning down to kiss her lips.
“I love you.” She whimpers, turning her head up to glance at Steve, and then Tony. All of the men understanding.
“We love you too, sweetheart.” Steve murmurs.
“So very much.” Tony smiles, glad that the woman he sees as his kid has the two super soldiers to protect her and keep her safe and sane.
The two super soldiers take (Y/N) upstairs whilst Happy and Tony stare down the unconscious man on the floor.
“What do we do with him?” The security guard asks.
“Take him downstairs and tell Sam, Clint and Nat that we got them a new punching bag.”

It’s yelling about the 100 time!
Okay, I will say this. I was less angry at this episode structurally than I have been in the past. There was at least some forward plot movement. Sort of? At least forward time movement? So that was...something.
The problem is just that I, in fact, hate both of these plots a lot.
I spent most of the episode just being super concerned about Murphy and yelling at Emori to stop trying to get him to have sex because I felt like if that happened, he was a goner. So...I’m thankful for the interruptions. I didn’t really think they’d kill him off A) this early and B) without any of the other main characters around. So that makes me very nervous that Clarke is there now.
I know this is a show where they’ve killed lots of main characters, but it’s also a show where I really don’t need a ton of “shock” deaths at the end of the series to feel satisfied. I’d be more satisfied if they lived. So...#concerned.
I did cheer for the brief bit of genocide. I’m all for getting rid of whole nameless extra factions. I was yelling at Emori and Murphy for not just killing Nikki. Cause...why? Why bother keeping any of these nothing people alive. I know I know...he’s changing as a person but if old Murphy could just show up again for a second. I also need people to stop telling Murphy they’re proud of him because that’s also a tell tale sign his time is coming to an end and I just...I reject this notion entirely.
Anyway...Sheidheda is still the worst and that throne is ridiculous and someone should just shove him into the reactor I’m still not sure the purpose of and kill him because wow am I tired.
As for the other terrible plot...I just DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE FUCKING LAST WAR NONSENSE. Just please...shut up. I hate Cult!Bellamy. Put the words “My Shepherd” and “For all mankind” on the list of repeated phrases from failed final seasons of shows I never want to hear again right along with “I don’t want it” and “She’s my queen” . Sigh.
Also all the Bellarke blogs made me excited for that Bellamy watches Clarke undergo MCAP thing cause everyone was like “surely he will see the radio calls and they will realize their love for each other!!!” and then there was none of that.
Ah well...at least Bellamy and Echo sort of broke up. Maybe? Wishful thinking? He did tell her the cult was more important than her so that’s something.
Oh and can we stop torturing Raven. It’s so commonplace at this point, they don’t even show it on screen.
I think the best moments of this episode were in the very small character moments, which to be honest is always what this show has excelled at. The scene between Hope and Jordan was actually lovely. He was useful again. The scene between Octavia and Clarke where O said she finally understood her since now she had Hope to protect was great. Although I got really sad when she said that just a bit ago she was just “our little girl”. RIP Diyoza. You were gone too soon. And the scene between Madi and nameless survivor boy was good too. I like when the characters reference their own history and show their growth and help others. It’s good stuff.
On that note, I was amused by Clarke and Bellamy listing all the other cults from the show. If only Bellamy would snap the hell out of it.
Sigh...
Oh...and someone did mention Gaia being a person that’s still relevant to this show. That was nice. Of course, I’m afraid her coming back will mean Indra might die so maybe she should stay away as long as possible.
Anyway...I kind of hate this show and I can’t believe we have another break before we get the rest. Just put us out of our misery.

Falling in Love | Connor Brashier
A/n: this is a repost from my Shawn account!! This is my piece and is not stolen.
Summary: you just can’t believe how in love you are with your fiancé.
Warnings: fluff
Word count: 1.8k
***
Staring at my fiancé from across the room, I still can’t help but think I’m dreaming. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to keep this man interested long enough for him to even want to marry me. But here we are a month into our engagement, at our party with all our friends and family, and I still think I should wake up any second now.
I knew I was a goner the first time he kissed me - when the whole world stopped existing until we pulled away for the much needed oxygen to find its way back to our lungs. It was almost too perfect, the way his lips curved against mine, the way his hands cradled my face like that was its rightful place - since that day, it has been. I’d never understood what people meant when they said sparks flew when they kissed someone. But I understood that day.
Our relationship was never rushed. We took everything slow and steady (even though people had their opinions about how long it took us to go public on his insta, or how long it took for us to say I love you. Except, hi, that’s no one’s goddamn business, but go off, I guess.) And I’ll admit, it did take longer than expected for either of us to say those three words to each other - eight months, actually. But you could feel the love in the relationship even without them. It was in the way he always picked up the phone when I called, no matter the timezone. It showed when he would come back from tour and he’d come to my apartment just to fall asleep on my chest because my heart beat lulled him to sleep. And how his hands always found their way to lock with mine whether we’re walking to the car, or dancing in a crowded club, or eating dinner and we’re sitting on opposite ends of the table, so he reaches over and it’s like that cutesy couple thing you see in all the movies. We didn’t need the words to feel them.
And just looking at him and his nonchalant attitude, no one would think that he had a romantic side. And they definitely wouldn’t guess that for our first six dates, before he finally asked me to be his girlfriend, he sent me flowers the next day. And then when we started actually dating, little love notes would just pop up everywhere. Like when he slept over and would wake up before me, I’d find a sticky note on my bathroom mirror that would say something like “Your smile is the best part of my day.” And there have been a few instances where I wasn’t feeling my greatest and he just showed up hours later - seeing as these moments only seemed to happen when he was off on tour - and he’d cuddle me on the couch while we watched shitty rom-coms until I felt better. And it may not be a big deal to anyone else, but when he talks to me, or listens to me talk, his eyes are always trained on me, and I think it’s kinda cute.
And he’s the most caring person. Not just with me, either. He looks after his own. His brother got in a fight one time and Connor was there instantly to patch up his wounds and give him a place to stay so he wouldn’t have to face their mom. Another time Alessia fell coming off the stage and he sprinted to get her ice for her swollen ankle. He made sure to check on her every thirty minutes or so, even though he was working and couldn’t do much for her then. And he is always, always there when I’m sick to my stomach, or sick of life. He’s there drawing hearts and smiley faces over the problem area with his finger, whether it be my stomach, or back, or my mind. He takes care of his own and that to me says everything about our future.
And this boy, Jesus Christ, he is so creative. I’ve never known anyone whose mind works like his. He can see a plain brick wall and immediately his brain clicks and it’s suddenly turned into an aesthetic Shawn’s next shoot. And he doesn’t just focus on faces, he goes and he gets the beads of sweat on Shawn’s hairline, and the rings on his fingers. And he edits his videos in such a way that you can’t possibly watch it only once and feel like you’ve seen everything. It’s fast paced and beautiful and I could watch him edit for hours on end and never get bored. The way he layers photos on top of videos and how he knows just  the right time to make the music swell in a scene. He’s talented and I hope he knows I think so.
He’s so random too. I never know what to expect with him. We can lay in bed while he’s stroking my hair, pulling me to sleep when he asks, “What if cows screamed when you milked them?” Or, “You know, Popeye ate a lot of spinach, but I don’t think that’s the real reason he was so strong. He had to be taking steroids.” One time he came into the room at 3 in the morning, woke me up and asked, “When you were a kid, did you have those suction cup ball things that you would throw at a wall or a window and they’d just stay there?”
“Connor, I’m trying to sleep.”
“I know, but this is important.”
“Why?”
“Because I just bought a dozen of those and a dozen of those sticky slappy hand things.”
And he’s spontaneous (not just in the things he buys off Amazon at 3 AM). There have been many occasions where he has called me up and told me to pack an overnight bag because he wanted to go to the beach or Disney or because he found this bookshop in Nevada that he thinks I’ll enjoy. And then of course there are the more “extravagant” trips he likes to take at random points in the year. We spent last Christmas in the Bahamas because he wanted to wear shorts on Christmas day and he couldn’t do that if we were going to a family Christmas party apparently. Another time we flew to New York because I said I was craving something from this one restaurant we went to last time we were there. He doesn’t wait a second. If I mention wanting something, we’re gone in hours, or it’s already ordered and on it’s way. There is no way to fully know what his next move is gonna be and that keeps the relationship exciting.
And he sees things so vividly, remembering them in soft light, sometimes though in overexposure. He tells stories- AMAZING stories - through the lens of his camera. He puts everything into perspective in such a way that you can’t picture it any other way. You can’t see Shawn on stage and not immediately think of the thousands of girls and women crying because they’re in the same room as him and he’s there and he’s beautiful. And you can’t see him running to hug his fans without seeing the pure elation from the ones he touches. Connor gives you the pieces to make one whole and leaves nothing out, not even once. He never strays from the real story he’s telling, although he might go into a few others while doing so,he always finds his way back.
And despite his resting scowl, he’s not a fighter. He puts off this “I dont give a fuck” type of vibe, but he’s a softy. Until someone says something they shouldn’t. It’s only happened twice. When we were out with friends and I was getting us a couple waters from the bar. This man, who was way too close to me, tried to buy me a drink, his hand playing with the straps of my dress. I was uncomfortable, but I couldn’t find Connor in the crowded space and I had nowhere to escape to when he started getting even more touchy. And then I heard it, the unmistakable sound of skin hitting skin. “Come on, we’re going home.” He said roughly into my ear and he pulled me away, out of the club. Only for him to be Connor again, my Connor. “Are you okay? Did he hurt you? God, I oughta kill him. Can I get you something?” I just shook my head and wrapped my arms around him. He let me. Of course he did.
The other time was early on in the relationship. We were hanging out with his brother and some of his friends from school. I don’t really know what happened, but one of Dylan’s friends said something about me. Connor told me later it had to do with him having me in his bed while he did awfully dirty things to me. Con went off on the younger boy, his face red with anger. He looked like he would blow steam out of his ears at any second. Dylan and I had to pull him out of the room, and let’s just say, he and I don’t go anywhere near that guy anymore.
“You’ve been staring at me for a while now, sweetheart.” Connor said, suddenly at my side, his voice low in my ear. “You’re giving me bedroom eyes. Can’t take care of you with all these people here.”
I hum, finding his fingers to lace mine through. “Hmm… that’s never stopped you before.”
“No,” he presses a gentle kiss to the side of my neck. “But we are kind of hosting this party. So it would be rude to just disappear for 20 minutes.”
“Who said it would take that long?” I giggle, connecting our lips in a quick peck.
He hums into my skin, “Later, kid. When I have you all to myself and we can be as loud as we need to be.”
I nod, biting my lip. “We could always kick them out early.”
“Patience, y/n. Want me to take care of you?”
I nod desperately. “Please.”
“Then you gotta be good for me. Because the guys are staring at us right now and neither of us will hear the end of it if I take you right now.”
I whine. “Okay… but I want everyone out in an hour.”
He kisses my lips one more time before pulling away from me. “I’ll see what I can do.”
“I love you,” I say just loud enough for him to hear.
“I love you, sweetheart.” He throws me a wink before disappearing in the sea of people that fill our home.

Snapchat Shenanigans
For Virmire Week @spectrekaidanalenko
Shepard and Kaidan overhear a convo between Ash and her youngest sister, Sarah. Shepard can't help but be curious and wants to know more. Kaidan is just the innocent bystander who gets roped into a challenge.
Ashley grinned at the screen as she talked to her youngest sister, Sarah. A pang of loneliness and longing hit her so strongly, it nearly brought tears to her eyes. She missed her mom and her sisters so damn much. Maybe after they caught Saren, the Normandy crew would get some leave and she could visit. Having had a big hand in helping raise her sisters after her dad died, she sometimes felt more like a mom to them rather than an older sister.
A call home after the fustercluck on Eden Prime was exactly what she'd needed to ground her to reality once again. Just for a few moments of normalcy and to chase away the pain of losing her entire squad. And the guilt. It wouldn’t last long and she knew it but damned if she wouldn’t ride the high for as long as she could, though. Sarah was the last one on to vid chat because they all knew they’d never get a chance to talk to Ashley otherwise.
Brought out of her reverie by the fond thought, she tuned into Sarah's conversation again. “How come you never send us Snapchats anymore? Are you too serious now, soldier girl?”
“Sarah...” Ashley sighed in annoyance. She tried to remember what it was like to be so young; she failed. “I just don’t have time for it anymore, okay? When I actually get a few minutes somewhere, I’ll play around with the app and send you something.”
Her little sister grinned wickedly, "I'll just bug you until you do!" Ashley groaned and Sarah added, "I want several. There are so many cool filters on it now! I’ll send you my favorites.”
Ashley couldn't keep from laughing, “Okay, okay, fine.”
Being silly had gotten them through the endless moves from colony to colony, the heartbreak and frustration of making and losing friends and beginning all over again, with their dad's deployments over the years. Sometimes, their mom had used Snapchat with them, first to bring some laughter into her daughter's lives and then as they began to leave the house, as a way to stay connected and have fun. It had become routine and those silly photos always showed up when Ash needed them most. Maybe Sarah needed them, too.
Thinking on the past, Ash didn’t realize Sarah was asking her something, a sly and calculating smile on her fresh, young face. oh no, this couldn't be good.
“Sooooo...you said you were serving on the Normandy with Commander Shepard, right?" At Ash's nod, she rushed on, words tumbling from her lips, "We all saw him on the news. He’s hot, Ash!"
"Shhhh!!! Sarah, stop!"
It was like she hadn't heard, “Do you get to talk to him a lot? Go on missions together and study strategies...side by side?” With every ounce of dramatics in her teenage voice, it echoed loudly from the vid. "Do you like him?” Before Ashely could even sputter a reply, Sarah added breathlessly, “Oh! And what about Major Alenko? We saw him too! I think you should go for one of them. They’re so...dreamy!” She gave a girlish sigh.
Despite being alone in her corner of the bay, Ashley felt her cheeks pinken and warm at Sarah’s assessment. A furtive glance to the left and behind her showed neither Wrex nor Garrus paying her any attention. She wasn’t entirely immune to either man's 'hot factor', as Sarah dubbed it, but it wasn't a path she wanted to head down.
“Sarah, you know damn well there’s no fraternization. They’re both my superiors and I wouldn’t do anything to mar dad’s memory or make the Williams name look worse. Dad fought for every posting, remember?”
The look of excitement ebbed from Sarah’s face and Ashley fought the pain of not being able to give her little sister a hug. Maybe she’d been too harsh but...Sarah wasn’t a child anymore. Bringing her omni-tool up, she tapped a few buttons and an image of her with a silly, squashed face came on the screen.
She sent it to Sarah. “Message incoming.”
A beep sounded over the airwaves and Sarah glanced down at her own omni tool. She grinned and laughed, looking up at Ashley with a sparkle in her eyes.
"Happy now?"
"Yes! Thank you. I'm going to show it to all my friends at school...oh, and mom and Abby and Lynn, too."
Wonderful. Just the kind of thing the world needed to see about the Normandy crew right now. "Sarah, I don't think it's a good idea to be showing anyone outside the family."
Sarah wasn't listening, typing fast and furious on her omni-tool.
"Show who what?"
Caught unawares, Ashley jumped and squeaked simultaneously. When she turned to see who it was, she wished the floor would open up and shoot her into space. Right now would be perfect, too.
Ashley saluted smartly. "Uh…nothing, sir. Just having a chat with my sister."
Sarah's awed voice floated towards them, "Commander Shepard…"
He grinned and waved at the screen, "One and the same. Who am I having the pleasure of speaking with?"
Ashley stared at him. He was engaged in a conversation with her sister. Oh no, this could not go well at all. For any of them. Sarah would talk his ear off first while also embarrassing Ashley, without even trying.
"You okay, Ash?"
She squeaked again. Good grief, she sounded like a damn mouse...hadn't seen the LT either. Double shit. She was a goner for sure. Might as well go pack her rucksack and be ready to disembark at the next stop.
"Just fine, LT. Didn't mean to take up so much time on my vid call. Sarah can...go on a bit." She'd completely forgotten he and Shepard were doing duty station inspections.
He chuckled, crossing his arms and relaxing with a tilt of his head at the screen. "So I see."
Ashley turned and heard Shepard ask, "Snapchat? What is it? Don't think I'm familiar with it and I have a lot of apps on my omni-tool."
Oh hell freaking no. This wasn't happening to her. Several thoughts ran through her head, vying for attention: Sarah could not show him Snapchat, couldn’t tell him he was hot, couldn’t ask him if he liked her sister and...wait, Shepard had apps on his 'tool? As the thoughts tumbled over and over, she realized something else…
Kaidan had snorted with amusement when Shepard mentioned he had lots of apps. Turning to look at him, she wondered just how well he knew their CO. Something else occurred to her. She gazed at Shepard in a new light. He was just as ordinary as the rest of them on this ship. Easy to forget when he seemed larger than life.
Loud enough to speak over her sister’s gushing voice, Ash said, “We really need to go, Sarah. We have inspections and we’ve taken up enough of Commander Shepard’s time.”
“Oh...yeah, sorry.” She looked crestfallen.
“We have?” Shepard turned those clear blue eyes on Ashley, eyebrows raised in surprise.
Wait...he was enjoying this? What about the inspections? Protocol? Or her soon to be embarrassment. Hadn’t happened yet but it was inevitable.
“Uh, well…” She wasn’t sure how to proceed.
Shepard turned back to Sarah, “So tell me how this Snapchat works.” He played with his omni-tool. “Okay, it’s downloaded, now what do I do?”
Sarah launched into an explanation of what the app was, what it did, the different filters and how to take a picture. Shepard alternated looking at her face on the screen and his omni-tool, confusion written on his face.
“Hang on.” Typing on her own ‘tool, a ping soon came from Shepard’s. “Just to get an idea of what you’ll be doing.”
Standing next to Kaidan, Ash felt paralyzed, hoping Sarah hadn’t sent him something ridiculous...or incriminating. Glancing at her CO, she was surprised to see his shoulders shaking. Oh no. Her eyes connected with Sarah’s in the vid, laughter in their depths. She had a sudden sneaking suspicion.
“Hey, LT, come take a look at this will you? I don’t think the message came through correctly.” He was clearly struggling to speak.
Kaidan stepped up next to him, looking at the ‘tool. He smiled wide, giving Ash a side-eyed glance. Shit. She was going to jail for killing her little sister. All the sacrifices she’d made in the name of her career, only to be taken out by a teenager.
The LT called her over. “Ash, can you come here? I think we need another opinion.”
Dreading every step she made closer to the two of them, she approached warily. Shepard thrust his ‘tool closer so she could see what they were looking at. It was the photo she’d just sent Sarah right before they’d walked up. In the snap, she had a squashed face and bowl type haircut.
Yep, going to be taken in for murder. Looking up at the screen, she saw Sarah looking back at her, childish glee in her eyes, a smile playing about her lips. All the annoyance drained out of her. How could she be mad at her baby sister? Turning thoughtful, she had an idea. There was another way to play this.
She smiled. Crossing her arms and leaning back on one leg, she gazed at Shepard and said, a challenge in her tone, “Yep, that’s me, playing with Snapchat. Bet you can’t do any better than that.”
Hearing Kaidan choke on a laugh, she knew she was on to something. Shepard stood up straight the look on his face enough for her to know he was going to take the challenge.
He affirmed her assessment, “You’re on.”
The next thing Ashley knew, all three of them were in a Snapchat war. From behind them, she could hear Sarah struggling to suck in air between wheezing. When she could speak, it was to egg them on. Before long, all of them were giggling like idiots, tears rolling down their faces, doubled over in laughter. They couldn’t continue, unable to even hold their ‘tools up to take photos anymore.
When they could finally breathe, they looked up. The looks on Garrus' and Wrex's faces had them falling into fits of laughter all over again. One by one, they slid to the floor, piling against each other in a tangle of limbs, trying desperately to come back to some sense of normal.
Sarah’s voice ghosted over their heads, “Hey! Where’d you all go? Are you still there?”
Shepard spoke up, “Still here Sarah. We just...needed a break.”
Ashley stood up, smiling fondly at her little sis, still wiping tears from her eyes. “Time to go, sis. I’ve got work to do. Enough play time.”
A pout formed on her lips, “But...I want to see the snaps. I was so excited.”
Feeling the LT and her CO stand up behind her, Ashley started to say something but Shepard beat her to it. “We’ll look through them and see which ones actually turned out. I think all of us were having trouble between the laughter. Okay, Sarah?”
If her face lit up anymore, Ashley figured she could light the colony. “Yeah, that’d be great!” Then she smiled shyly, “I could...uh...send you all some of mine, if you want.”
“That would be really great, Sarah,” smiled Kaidan over Ash’s shoulder. “We better let you go now. Thanks for the fun.”
She nodded and cut the feed. This call was going to cost Ash big, she knew it. She just wasn’t sure how much, beyond the credits she'd have to pay for going over her time limit.
Turning, she regarded the two men with a suddenly serious face. “I can’t thank you both enough for making my little sister’s day. I just want you to know, I didn’t plan this and I’m sorry things got out of hand.”
Their smiles died quickly, replaced by confusion. They looked at each other, then back at her. “Ashley, we enjoyed this as much as you. We all need to let loose and laugh. Don’t worry about the length of the call and you certainly aren’t in trouble. In fact,” Shepard added, “next time you plan on calling Sarah, let me know. I always need new apps.”
Relief surged through her and she let out a deep sigh. “Yes, sir. I’ll do so. Just remember, she really loves to talk. And loves her apps. You might get more than you bargained for.”
Kaidan groaned, shaking his head. “Which means I’ll be busy fixing his omni-tool and cleaning it up as per usual.”
Feeling more like she fit in than ever, Ashley grinned. He probably would be. She’d seen first hand their CO wasn’t very tech savvy. The one area she’s seen him fall short in.
“Well, we’d better get back to it. Keep up the good work here. Your station is clean, organized and the weapons are working better than ever.” Shepard clapped her on the shoulder and he and Kaidan turned to leave. How he even noticed with all that transpired, Ashley didn't know.
“Aye, aye, Skipper,” she called after them.
His lips twitched with humor at the nickname. Ash knew she was going to enjoy this posting after all.
