Every goddamn day, I think about how Chameleon was a very stupid episode, but for the exact opposite reason that I initially thought it was.
I always thought it was because the entire class was acting unreasonably stupid, but they were actually pretty reasonable, all things considered.
It was Marinette's writing that was the issue.
You're not gonna complain about your assigned seat being moved around to accommodate a disabled new student, nor demand proof of her disability, that would just be a dick move. (It doesn't make sense for the ENTIRE CLASS to be moved around, but I'll ignore that point because it's just kind of a nitpick.)
Many members of the class have personally met at least one celebrity, with a few classmates even being celebrities themselves. Lila's stories are certainly out there, even by this class' standards. But it's her first day, and again, most regular people don't hound others for proof on claims like this, even the ridiculous claims. (It doesn't make sense for the class to be so enthralled by her stories, but I would just chalk that up to them being nice to the new kid. The show does get kind of ridiculous with how much the class trusts her later on though.)
Lila could've absolutely caught that napkin on instinct. It would've hurt, but she wouldn't be thinking about her injury because that's how instincts work. Lila actually almost drew unnecessary attention to herself by making up that "explanation" on the spot, as protecting herself with her injured wrist needed no defending in the first place.
The only reason Marinette knew about Lila's lies to Adrien is because she stalked the two of them, which Alya and Nino are rightfully distrustful of. (It's still completely stupid for them to ignore her story entirely though. That's potential evidence of Lila lying to someone. At the very least, they should've verified the story with Adrien. But they just completely blew it off, and that point is never brought up again.)
From the class' perspective, Marinette complained about accommodations made for the new girl's disability because she wasn't allowed to sit close to her crush anymore, demanded hard evidence of the new girl's claims despite having some ridiculous celebrity stories herself, threw a napkin at her, potentially making her wrist injury even worse when she protected herself out of pure instinct, and then stormed off when that didn't work out in her favor.
I don't like this episode, not because of the way the class was acting, but because they took the girl who is supposed to be the smartest character in the show, and had her make probably the worst possible decision in every single situation. There are fatal flaws that cause characters to make understandable mistakes, and then there are characters just ignoring the obvious right answers because that would make far too cohesive of a plot, I guess.
They could've literally had some Spy vs Spy esque shenanigans between Lila and Marinette where neither can openly admit what they both know the other knows and have to skirt around social barriers in order to make the other look bad while saving face themselves. That would not only write itself, but would make more sense given their respective characterizations and would allow for much more interesting drama and character dynamics across multiple seasons.

I mean Lila was already there while Marinette and Gabriel were fighting. She could have attempted to dive into the water and grab the butterfly before it sunk too deep, or returned later and just use the device she stole from Tomoe again and slip right in after everything was fixed up
Okay, two problems with that.
Let's assume Bug Noire and Monarch didn't notice Lila sneaking around the lair. How the hell did Lila manage to get down to the lowest level of the Agreste's Manor with no elevator, no stairs, no climbing gear, and no way to actually get down there other than a giant hole in the floor?

What is she, an olympic diver?
Second, Lila didn't have extra time to get the Butterfly Miraculous. Marinette herself said she couldn't find it, even after using Miraculous Ladybug to fix everything.
Marinette: After the wish, all I could find was the double wedding ring, along with the Miraculous that Monarch had turned into rings and Cat Noir's and mine. I transformed into Aquabug and searched the basement but nothing. Even after repairing everything, it's as if the brooch had… disappeared!
The only reason Lila was able to get the Butterfly Miraculous was the only thing more powerful than using Gimmi to make a wish: Bullshit the writers can justify by saying it happened off-screen.

Re-Verse Lila/Cerise and Vixen
Lila is a double agent working for both sides. She infiltrated the Supreme and managed to manipulate her way into the top ranks and recieve the Fox miraculous, while at the same time being a member of Gabriel's resistance. She isn't loyal to either one of them and has her own agenda. Also, neither side knows she's also working against them. Using her illusion powers, she can appear to be in two places at once. She joined Gabriel's cause to try to get her hands on the butterfly miraculous. As Vixen she doesn't work alongside Luka, Kagami and Felix. She's slightly higher ranked than Kagami, so she's usually sent to more high-profile missions. The resistence is constantly trying to figure out who she is, since she's one of their toughest obstacles. Lila is constantly leading them in wrong directions regarding her identity

I saw some posts that were like “why is Lila suggesting a class election at the end of the school year” which is so weird to me because let you ask you this;
would a school (regardless if it was in America or France) be willing to hold a class election during the final weeks of school?
Never happened at any of my schools, I can tell you that much.

I love the idea that everything (positive) that Lila lies about somehow comes true for Marinette.
Lila lies about having connections to the queen of England? Suddenly, Marinette is getting regular commissions from the queen herself and forms quite the acquaintance-ship w the royal family.
Lila "is practically family" to an Italian mafia? Marinettes grandmother has quite an eccentric background, and through her, Marinette somehow manages to get a local Italian Mafia to pseudo-adopt her. (Only because she refused to actually be adopted, much to their disappointment)
Lila "went on tour" with Jagged Stone? Guess who wants his favorite designer to accompany him for his U.S. tour during the summer?
Oh, Lila says she acted in a movie for Graham de Vanily Films? Guess who ends up accidentally staring in a Graham de Vanily film?
I just want all the positive things that Lila lies about to happen to Marinette, who is sufficiently surprised every time (you'd think she'd be used to it by now), meanwhile, in the background, Lila gets progressively more pissed.
And the worst part? Every time she tries to upstage Marinette with something even bigger and grander than Marrinettes' own accomplishments? No matter how ridiculous, Marinette somehow ends up stumbling upon That. Exact. Opportunity.
It's incredibly frustrating.
You could say Marinette has some miraculous luck, despite how adamantly Tikki denies any involvement in these increasingly ridiculous turns of events.
All in all; Lila is frustrated, Marinette is frustrated, and Tikki is very amused (as are Adrien and Plagg, who watch this shit-show from the background).
