Character Development

You know it's character development when it goes from everything they do or say or think irritates you (cough *Clary and Jace* cough), to a point where about half of what they do/say/think irritates you.

I'm also finishing up Chain of Iron. Literally every point in these books I wanted to find these characters and beat them with my book for making stupid choices. I also loved it, but I wouldn't want to beat with the book if I didn't love the characters soo.

My Rant on Modern Power Rangers

OK, I am very upset at Netflix right now because they took off all the good, and by that, I mean old, (with the exception of the original) Power Rangers.

My brother is just getting to the age where he can appreciate the fandom that is power rangers! It's exciting seeing a superhero that presents a good role model and fights funny villains! However, he is left with the crappy new Power Rangers. The Ninja Steel, Beast Morpher, and Dino Fury Power Rangers. These power rangers lack a cohesive plot, good character development, and an engaging magic/sci-fi system, not to mention creativity. (Ninjas, animals, and dinosaurs have already been done at least twice.)

What I can give the new Power Rangers props for is representation. It's nice to see female power rangers in a non-traditionally feminine power rangers color. Green. Girls have always been Pink, Yellow, White, Purple, or if the writers are feeling rebellious, sky blue. Seeing a female power ranger wearing green, and without a skirt is refreshing. I only wish it could have happened when I was a kid.

However, everything I loved about power rangers is gone. Cool magic systems like jungle fury, made me want to know what my spirit animal was. Characters that I felt I could ship like Mike and Emily (Samarai), Blake and Tori (Ninja Storm), Summer and Dillon (RPM), Ziggy and Doctor K (RPM), and Tyler and Shelby (Dino Charge). Characters that were more than one-dimensional. I only wish my brother and kids just like him would have gotten to know the childhood shows that I love, with more than just puns and cheesy fight scenes, but characters and character dynamics and worldbuilding that will get them prepared for other amazing stories our world has to share with them.
