Resting
Rest is a state of relaxation that allows our minds and bodies to recover from the general stress of our lives. This can come physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is extremely important to our overall health and is just as important as diet or exercise. There are different kinds of rest that we need to help us function at our best. The seven types of rest are social, spiritual, sensory, creative, emotional, physical, and mental. Each one specializes in a specific aspect of our lives and understanding them makes it easier to understand yourself and care for yourself properly.
Physical Rest - This means taking a break from all the events of your day. It gives our muscles time to repair and grow, which helps avoid injuries and lessens fatigue. Instantly simple things such as lying down or sitting come to mine, but it can also include things such as stretching, getting a massage, taking a nap, or practicing deep breathing.
Mental Rest - This is taking a break from the constant mental simulation that is so common. This gives our brains time to recharge and process information, helping us to stay focused, productive, and alert. Mental rest can be many things such as turning off your phone, practicing meditation, avoiding social media, and yoga.
Emotional Rest - This is removing yourself from emotional demands in your everyday life. This gives us time to process our feelings, helping maintain an emotional balance that helps avoid burnout. I know this can be hard for people, because you may feel guilty about taking time for yourself, but this is not selfish. You deserve this. Emotional rest can include things like spending time alone, journaling, spending time outside in nature, or talking to a friend.
Sensory Rest - This means taking a break from the constant sensory input in your life. This gives you time to recover from the over stimulation that is noise, light, etc. To stop this from becoming overwhelming, consider practicing things such as taking a bath, listening to calm music, closing your eyes, turning off the tv, or a "digital detox"
Creative Rest - This is taking a break from creative requests. People commonly feel as though they need to continuously produce and create, but this is very draining. To combat this state try pursuing a small hobby, doing a creative activity that doesn't require lots of effort (knitting, cooking, baking, etc.), or reading poetry and literature
Social Rest - This is when you temporarily take yourself out the constant social situations, especially ones that are extremely draining or tiring. This will help you maintain your emotional boundaries and avoid social burnout. To practice this try spending time with family or a close friend, have a solo - date, and go ghost on social media for a day.
Spiritual Rest - This can be meditation, prayer, yoga, volunteer work, or nature walks.

Running <3
Get out and run.
Do not concern yourself with anything but running. Make it a lifestyle, a daily habit. If you run 300 days a year, every year, for a multiple years, good things will come your way. Start now if you haven't. It DOES NOT MATTER if you are 15 or 50. If you want to be a good runner you just have to go do it. Ignore all the internet tips.
Get running first. This is the foundation. After you get used to the basics, start eating mostly good stuff. Get a sleep schedule. Stretch if you want. Do strength training if you like strength training. Wear basic black shoes or neon pink ones. Whichever speaks to you. Listen to music when you run. Or don't. Carry water on a longer run if you'd like, you can also go without. If you want to do core, do it. But before any of this, you need to start running.
Run on trails, streets, or a treadmill. Whatever you can access. Whichever you prefer. Run slowly, run quickly. Run up hills. Run in the rain, in the snow, the heat, the cold. Run on the days you don't feel like running, and on the days you can't stop thinking about running. Run with friends and run alone. Run races in the country and in the city. Run when you're happy and run when you're depressed. When you have a ton of energy and when you're close to passing out. Run in the morning, run at night, run before work, run after work. Go run.
♡ Have fun with yourself! ♡

Taking Care of Yourself > "Glowing up"
I see a lot of things that tell you how to "glow up" or how to do your makeup in a way that make you hotter. Things like this, that in reality don't change much besides the fact that you might become so obsessive over glowing up that you fail to look after yourself both physically and mentally. This is why I wanted to make a beginner-friendly guide to caring for yourself and essentially becoming the best version of you (aka glowing up).
Start getting up earlier. Start with 7:30am for a few days, then move to 7:00am, do this until you work your way down to 6:30 or 6:00. It doesn't matter what you do, you can go for a run or a walk or just make yourself breakfast and chill. I would suggest trying to stay off of your phone for at least thirty minutes after waking up. If that's too hard for you then try fifteen to twenty minutes. This will get you adjusted to not being on your phone and then later in the day you'll feel less of an urge to check your phone or start doom-scrolling.
Along with waking up earlier, I'd encourage you to push yourself to fall asleep earlier. Again, start with something easy, like 11:00pm, then 10:00pm, then 9:00pm. I promise you won't miss out on anything by going to sleep. This can be a hard thing for some people, and I still struggle with this, but that's why you work your way down instead of going straight to nine.
Get into the habit of making and eating your breakfast. Doesn't have to be fancy, it can just be a bagel and cream cheese. Sit and eat it and do nothing else. It can be hard to be left alone with your thoughts, so instead think about something random or unrelated to you. Like how pretzels were invented or why some people insist on having "hazel" eyes.
DRINK WATER. This will lower your chances of having headaches and overall make you feel better. Start with one water bottle. Fill it up in the morning and aim to finish it by the end of the day. Then try finishing it twice.
Try journaling. I know firsthand how intimidating this can be. I had trouble starting too, but it's not as bad as it sounds! buy a basic notebook (I would recommend spiral bound as it's easier to write in) and a black pen or pencil. Then write down everything you do, dinner dates, assignments, coffees, walks, anything. Nothing is too small for your notebook. If you don't know what to write, just go into extreme detail about your day.
Make yourself go for a walk or run. Put in your earbuds and walk. Smile at strangers walking the other way and you'll notice just how many will smile back at you. It's a good feeling. Go to a park and sit in the sunshine. Let the warmth rush over you and think about how your life would go if you could never fail. Take small steps to make it happen.
Lastly my best tip for you is to work your hardest to become the person you dream about falling in love with. Be kind to people. Stick your tongue out at babies, compliment people's outfits, ask people about their stories. Talk to your acquaintances and make them your friends. Challenge yourself not to judge anyone for an hour, then two, then three, then a full day. Get it up to a week.
♡ Have fun! ♡

Romanticizing Your Life (in a way that won't drain your bank account)
Make a happy playlist and listen to it while going on a walk
start a journal (doesn't have to be consistent, just when you have something to say)
Try baking something (I suck at baking, so if you've ever broken a stove or an oven, this idea is NOT for you)
Try drinking water. In a real glass. You're going to feel so fancy.
Light some candles and buy some flowers for yourself.
Put on a face mask (This never fails to make me feel like the main character)
Watch the sunrise or sunset (If you live far away from a place where you can see it then drive.)
Read a book
Take the newspaper and find the crossword section. Take this to a coffee shop and do it there with your favorite drink (I've been doing this once week and it is genuinely the best part of my day)
Try smiling more. Not in a weird way, but people will react kindly to you if you show them kindness. Its gonna make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Paint your nails a color you like (as someone who never has her nails painted, this makes me feel so bougie)
Listen to a podcast. Doesn't have to be a serious one. Either way you'll feel so mature.
TAKE A BUBBLE BATH. I don't do this very often but oh my gosh. I wish I did. It's so relaxing. You could even up it by playing relaxing music from your phone and pretending you're in a spa.
Make your space yours. I mean your room should look like a physical representation of your personality. If this means there are paint splatters on the walls and rubber ducks hanging from the ceiling thats okay. If it means the whole room is painted black and there are 3 pieces of furniture, this is okay. As long as you love it and it makes you feel comfortable.
Give yourself a signature scent. This isn't hard, you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on perfume. Just find a scent you really like, go to the drug store, and buy conditioner, shampoo, body wash, and lotion all with this scent. After you shower, use the lotion all over. This will make you smell like your scent and it's amazing. I started doing this a few months ago and I've gotten so many compliments on how I smell. You don't realize how big a compliment that is until you get it. Trust me.
Of course this is all for fun and you don't have to do any of it if you don't want to, but I think its a cute way to bring a little spark of joy into your daily lifestyle.
♡ Have fun! ♡

Study Skills
Start studying a week before every quiz and/or test. This sounds tedious, and it can be, but it will help you gradually soak in the information until it temporarily becomes part of you. (If it's just a memorization thing with 20 terms or less you can start studying a couple days before the test instead)
Watch Youtube videos about the topic you are studying. This is one of the most helpful tips I think I've ever gotten from anyone (it came from my dad in 7th grade). Your professors teach you so much, and they cover a lot of it, but when it's in a text book its hard to focus on and remember, if you watch it in a cute little animated video you are much more likely to remember it. Also they might cover stuff that isn't in your text book and that way if it shows up on a test you're not caught off guard, or worst case scenario you just get a little more knowledge that someone will find interesting someday.
Get tons of sleep. Sleeping may be one of the most important things you can do for yourself. It helps you process the day's events, the things you learned, and the memorization terms you're working on. Also, if you read through your notes right before you go to bed they will be fresh in your mind - for some reason this really helps, especially the night before an exam.
This one goes hand in hand with number 2, but don't just read what your professor gives you. Find books, journals, academic blogs, etc. that address the subject you're working on. Again, either you'll be more prepared for the test later, or you'll have extra information to impress you classmates and teachers.
Write out your notes. I'm not sure if this works for everybody, but personally I think there's something about writing out my notes versus typing them that makes it a little more personal and a memorable.
Exercise! I love this tip because I hate studying. If you spend an hour working through your text book and running memorization tactics it's so refreshing to go for even just a 20 minute walk to clear your head. During this walk you should purposely avoid thinking about your school work.
Don't always study in comfy clothes. Feeling comfortable in your clothes is important, but if all you plan on doing is studying for a day, for at least part of it you should get dressed up. Put on a nice outfit and do your hair. Something that says "I'm going to get straight - A's and I'm gonna look hot doing it". Think Elle Woods.
Test your ability to teach. Try explaining the material to your friend, or if you don't have any, talk to your pet. If you don't have one of those either, then take a video and talk to yourself. If you're able to clearly explain the unit/chapter to somebody who's never even heard of the topic thats when you know you're getting somewhere. If your explanation leaves you or your subject feeling confused, then get back to the books.
ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS. This is so hard for me but the best way to do this is to turn up the music and move the electronics. If you don't need your computer for your review work, don't have it in the room. You definitely don't need your phone, so connect your airpods and leave it next door. For me I have a lock box and I put any devices I don't need in the box. Then I take the box to a different room in my house and leave it there. Preferably with a friend or family member to stop me from taking my phone out.
Lastly you need to know that the way you ace your tests is by learning every single piece of information down the spelling of the words. You should know your notes or flashcards by heart and if someone asks you about your topic while you're away from your notes you should be able to answer them thoroughly and accurately. One way you can do this is to rewrite your notes, and not in the like print over and over way, but get a separate notebook and try rewriting your notes in new words. Almost as if you're trying to write a paper from a cite without getting copyrighted.
I'm not sure if I said it before, but these are tips that have worked for me. If they don't work for you that's okay but I would encourage you to try them out. Take a deep breathe and get to studying.
♡ You got this! ♡
