a commisioner's request (yandere!ayato x gn!reader)

warnings! manipulative ayato, yandere implications, slightly suggestive content, use of petnames, bit of a slow beginning but i wanted to build up some more plot (. . ;)

"Commissioner Kamisato is currently dealing with serious business affairs." The stone-faced guard glared down at you, dull brown eyes hateful. "I would advise you to take your leave."

The man had planted himself, along with five others, in front of the entrance to the Kamisato residence. Together, they stood, gripping their spears tightly and preparing themselves if you decided to show any form of resistance.

Sighing, you glanced from one guard to another, and seeing how no one was on your side, promptly spun around and left.

"Ugh... that person.. always coming in and asking to meet someone. If it isn't the commissioner, its Lady Ayaka... and if it's not her, it's housekeeper Thoma. Don't they have any real work to do?" You could still hear them blatantly talking behind you as you paced down the stone path. Grumbling to yourself, you decided to just forget about it. They didn't matter to you, anyway.

"W-Wait up!!" Someone called out your name behind you, a warm voice that you recognized. Turning around, you spotted Thoma, hand raised and lips raised in an awkward smile. His golden hair was ruffled from the wind, but he didn't seemed bothered by it in the least. Behind him, the sun was just beginning to dip past the hazy horizon. As he caught up to you, he slowed down his pace to match yours.

"Thoma? Haha, this is a surprise. I expected you to be out on a job somewhere in the city." Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise, and you could feel yourself smiling at the kind-hearted man.

"Ah-!" Thoma paused before continuing. "Well I was supposed to be out on an errand, but my lord had something to tell me. Speaking of which..." His green-eyed gaze landed on you as he cleared his throat. "I have a message from you from my lor- Ayato."

You blinked it surprise. "...Is that so? Go on then, recite it."

Thoma looked relieved, which instantly struck you as suspicious. "Ahem! The commissioner has requested that you meet him. The two of you. Tonight. In his office." You could see the blonde's face grow redder and redder as he spoke. "I-it would not be wise of you to decline."

"And I had no intention to." You smiled sweetly at the man, thoughts running through your head.

just the two of us?

The housekeeper nodded gratefully. "Now then, if you'll excuse me. I have several urgent matters to attend to. Until we meet again." With that, he swiftly bowed and walked away, giving you a little nervous grin as the two of you met eyes.

As the courtyard filled with silence once more, you stared at the gate of the residence blankly.

what the hell was that all about?

You stood there for a long time, thoughts drifting from one thing as another as you contemplated life and the universe and time itself it in its very fiber, all while standing in the middle of the path that led out the door.

...then if this world really is a simulation, then what are diseases? what am i? was i programmed to have these questioning thoughts?? and if so, for what purpose?? what higher being is controlling this deranged puppet game????

"...Ahem." Someone cleared their throat behind you, causing you to jump. Spinning around you glanced at the guard from before with wide eyes.

"Ah." Regaining your composure, you stood upright and settled into a calmer expression. "Yes?"

"The commissioner has sent me to fetch you. He is currently waiting in his chambers." His eyes were still hard, but you seemed much more reserved from before.

"His chambers?" you echoed questioningly. "Not his office?"

The guard merely shook his head. "That was what I ordered to tell you." There was no further explanation as the guard stepped back to his post, continuing his shift.

...well... this is getting more and more concerning.

Shaking it off, you strided into the dimly lit residence, glancing around for the familiar door that would lead to Ayato's chambers. In not long at all, you saw it at the end of the east hallway, and began making your way to it. You caught the expressions of several servants on your way there, some of polite kindness, some with questioning looks, and others who were busy whispering rumors into the others' ears.

You send a curt nod to the men guarding the door to Ayato's room, before knocking on the wood yourself.

"Come in."

Bracing yourself for a brief moment, you walked inside the room, gently closing the door behind you. Ayato was working at his desk beside his bed, but glanced up as he saw you enter. A look of delight spread across his features.

"You came."

"You called for me, lord." Taking a seat at the second chair beside his desk, you flitted your gaze at the door behind you, weary that others were listening.

The azul-haired man let out a laugh that resounded throughout the room. His violet eyes sparkled with an emotion you couldn't recognize but you stiffened in your seat nonetheless. "Why so serious, darling? There's no need to act that polite with me, you know."

Nodding, you shifted into a more comfortable position on your seat. Now that you thought about it, you didn't recall there ever being a second seat here in the first place. After all, it was Ayato's bedchambers, and there really wouldn't be any reason to receive guests here.

"And what are you thinking so diligently about? Hehe, it's written alll over your face." Ayato had leaned in, chin propped on his hand as he beamed at you.

"E-Eh? Ah... sorry. Unimportant matters." You waved your hand dismissively, feeling the pair of lavender eyes following your every movement.

Ayato smiled at you. "You wouldn't be thinking about other men while in front of me, would you? Actually, don't think about them at all. They aren't worth your time."

You immediately shook your head, face flushed. "Why would I- Ayato, you know I wouldn't do that!" You pouted at him, aware of how childish you looked, but continued anyways.

"Of course, of course. I trust you, my darling. Ah... but it's strange. I heard a rumor about you just the other day! Isn't that just peculiar?" Ayato's facial expression changed, but you couldn't decipher the smile that was still displayed on his face.

"...A rumor...?" You began to tremble, but still managed to meet Ayato's eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Hmmm, really? Why, that's a shame. I was hoping to extract the truth from you." Ayato pouted playfully. "But if you really don't know and you aren't just lying to me, then I'll explain!"

You nodded hesitantly, afraid of saying anything else. You hated this. Hated being talked about like the leader of some freakshow.

"Alright..." Ayato tapped his fingers on the desk rhythmically, pondering how to start. "Recently everyone's been saying that you've had... an affair with a the shopkeeper who runs Nakamura's. Everyone's been calling you... well, indecent names, to say the least." The man let out a little sigh, innocently glancing at you to see how you were reacting.

Bristling, you glared up at him. "What do you mean?? I haven't slept with anyone, much less someone with a wife!!"

"My oh my, you sure are getting worked up, aren't you?" Ayato sent you a pitiful look. "But I'm not the one who said this. I'm only relaying the message to you." He sounded sympathetic, but you could hear the venom laced in his voice.

"It's not true."

"But that's what someone who did commit adultery would say." The man sent you a sideways glance, his pitying expression only deepening. "I'm afraid that no one will believe you."

"Ayato-!"

"Shh." Ayato pressed a finger to your lips, his usual smile returning. "But I'm Ayato Kamisato, the head of the Kamisato Clan. Really, there's nothing I can't do. So how about this - I won't tell anyone about your little secret, and I'll stop the rumors. In return, you'll have to give me a favor."

"There's nothing to hide, Ayato." You tried to make your voice as steely as possible. "If we had a detective to look into it-"

"Ah. This is just an excuse to see Heizou, isn't it?" Ayato's stare became cold. "So it really was about other men."

"Why are you acting like this? This... isn't like you!" You were appalled at Ayato's behavior. Did he really not trust you?

The said man laughed, a sound that started off quiet but quickly grew in volume. "Oh, darling." Ayato's voice was sickly sweet to hear. "Not acting like myself? If only you knew."

His voice had changed. Something about it, whatever it was. The joking tone was gone, the serious tone was gone. Now... he just sounded... broken. Like he had lost all sanity. And maybe, as you stared at the man in horror, he had.

"Ahhh..." Ayato sighed, staring at you with blown hyacinth eyes. "Seeing you all cornered and trembling like this really does make me want to tell you. It makes me want to lock you up so that only I will be able to lay eyes on you. You're like a work of art. Beautiful, picturesque, something one should never lay hands on. All mine. You're all mine, and for me only."

There wasn't time to think. All you could hear was the rushing in your ears and the hammering of your heart. You had to get out of here, anywhere but here. Standing abruptly, you sprinted toward the door as fast as your legs could carry you. Your breathing was erratic, hitching every two or three seconds as you tried to calm yourself down. Ayato didn't bother chasing you, he only turned to watch the entire spectacle. You grabbed the doorknob, twisting it frantically but only hearing a slight click on the other side of the door.

It's locked.

He had his guards lock the door.

You felt your body go limp. Maybe you had collapsed, maybe you had passed out, or maybe the fear had just gotten to a point where you straight up died. Through the cold numbness you could feel someone grabbing your wrists and lifting you up. The touch was tight, and you resisted the urge to shudder. You didn't resist. You weren't should if you even could.

And through the darkness, you heard:

"Sorry, darling, that it had to come to this. I just want you to be mine, all mine, your smile, your body, you in every single possible way. No one can see you. No one makes you as happy as I do. And I'll show you. We'll be together for a long, long time."

oh he DEFINITELY freaked out at first. there was a lot of panicking and confusion and "how could this even happen?!" ("you think i'd genetically engineer a creature that's not capable of reproducing? all of you should be genetically compatible with practically any yokai," draxum said. "AND YOU DIDN'T THINK TO, I DUNNO, TELL US THAT?!" donnie said.) but eventually, he did calm down, and he and his partner talked about it (a bunch, multiple times), and eventually some of the panic gave way to... curiosity, first of all... and then maybe kind of excitement? and some fondness? i mean, he was still pretty scared, and sure, he doesn't really consider himself a 'kid' person, but it's not like he never thought about EVENTUALLY having kids, just maybe... not so soon? but. i mean.

well. if they're already cooking...

oh gosh. i'm not sure, but i know it definitely WILL affect their parenting... i think at first donnie will find himself just... deferring to his partner a LOT in almost any situation because he's afraid that he'll fuck it up, because he DOESN'T feel like he understands proper boundaries or what parenting is supposed to look like, etc etc etc, and he's afraid he'll mess up. he probably reads a TON of parenting books as well because RESEARCH and will often try to pull directly from them in any situation he can, and is confused when things don't go exactly the way they were described in the text... leo i think kind of tends to flounder between being overprotective and feeling the desire to protect his son from everything and anything and wanting to overcorrect this tendency by pulling back and trying to give him as much freedom and space as possible, which sometimes leads to some... inconsistencies. there's definitely a learning curve for both of them, but they both get the hang of it eventually. they both have lovely partners and a very loving and supportive family to help them and they'll figure it out with a bit of practice.

i like to imagine them all staying very close, especially coz i'm loosely planning on them all going through the kraang-apocalypse together (and then coming through to the other side!) so i can't imagine them ever drifting too far from each other, emotionally or geographically. there's a bit of a rocky start for a lot of them, but all of the siblings end up a very tight-knit bunch.

WRITING A VARIGO FIC RN SO YES Varian just never stopped being afraid of blood. So, one time, Hugo got hurt during the trials. Bleeding all over the place kind of injury. "Did Varian help him?" "Did Varian support him?" Varian dropped like a rock to the ground and Nuru and Yong found them knocked out and one of them covered in blood and they were like "...what is WRONG with these adults?" Playing Pokemon Violet DLC,,,,, Varian would have a Galarian Zigzagoon and Hugo would have a Zorua. They hate each other Olivia was NOT for Varigo. She was over here going "Nope that is MY Hugo, I have had him all to myself for years and you can't have him" and Ruddiger was entirely ready to have another human to feed him apples so they were just fighting each other. Still very bitter about having to share their people, though. AUs... thinking about aus Specifically a Star Rail au where Varian is Mara-struck. That appeals to me. I could write that. But I don't want to share vat7k with people that like hsr because nothing is scarier than having a popular fandom in your fandom of like, twelve people. SPEAKING OF HOYOVERSE GAMES Varian would have a cryo vision. Since they stand for conflicted ideals most of the time, he'd probably get it during the snowstorm. His ambition was to save his dad, but he wanted to listen to his dad so badly. Hugo would PROBABLY have a pyro vision. I think he'd get it after Varian got posessed, because most of his life was spent doing mindless thieving. The second he could focus on something else, he realized how much he just wanted a calm life. He looked at his crush being posessed and went "I am NOT doing this again! Jesus!" Varian listens to Michael in the Bathroom on repeat at 12am every night and Hugo is So Tired of it. He's a Heathers fan and cried listening to Someone Gets Hurt (Reprise) from Mean Girls. They like horror movies but are both objectively afraid of them. In the bad way. Varian watches that one really fucked up episode of My Little Pony and is out for the rest of the year on horror movies. He kins Stygian.

Varian and Ruddiger copy each others expressions. Olivia noticed this and got EXTREMELY jealous, so she started doing it with Hugo. They both have their little vermin copying them. Hugo does not have Can Eat Spicy Food Swag. He only has White Boy Swag. Hugo and Rapunzel do white girl shit together. Rapunzel loves Varian very much, but she and Hugo are posing together for Instagram pictures and buying Starbucks and going to Target. Hugo with a braid is real to ME because I feel like that reminds him of Rapunzel. Varian thinks it's funny. ON THE SAME NOTE Hugo does not understand Rapunzel. He doesn't understand people who do nice things for no reason. If he's doing something nice, it's because he expects favors back. Even if the favor is just something like a kiss from Varian or a good pat on the back from Eugene. Rapunzel will give him little gifts and he panics because he doesn't know what she expects back from him. Varian has to explain that she's just That Nice. He's very concerned. They participate in actively sitting in each other's laps. Ask them when the last time they sat in an actual chair was and they stare off into the distance and have a flashback scene in their mind. Hugo is objectively uncomfortable to sit on but his scrawny twink ass is just laying on Varian whenever possible. Royal meeting and they don't have an extra chair for him? Don't worry gang, he already has one!

tuesdaypost year in review

this year brought to you by viewers like you. thank you! i still do not know how to thank everyone for their incredible generosity during the Late July/Early August Moving Catastrophe Badtimes and im still feelin some kinda way about it. thank you.

took eight weeks completely off, more than any other year so far

overnight traveled for work for the first time

moved cross country with Mack to face dangers untold and hardships unnumbered

bought an actual for-real couch and not a futon

got Phil

(unrelated to Phil) i got spayed after almost ten years of begging and pleading various medical professionals, (also unrelated) got covid and RSV back to back

listening

fallow weeks: 8. i almost always have a tuesdaysong bc i am almost always listening to something. all of the tuesdaysongs are here:

particular favorites were Peel Me A Grape (Anita O’Day), top spotify song of the year Yeah Yeah Yeah (Blood Orchid), Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Wolf remixed by Sextile, Father Finlee (Spence Hood), A Minha Menina (Os Mutantes).

the very last tuesdaysong of the year is Sugar Rum Cherry by Duke Ellington, one of the few christmas songs i tolerate.

special shoutout to the austin underscore walker universe of podcasts, bc i mainlined A More Civilized Age (clone wars/star wars rewatch) while packing, and devoured P/alisade (the newest scifi season of F/riends at the Table) this month.

fallow weeks: 11. pleased that i am killing the invisible rules in my head and including more articles instead of feeling guilty about Not Reading A Real Book!!! every week when i sit down to write the tuesdaypost. read a fuckton earlier this year bc i was procrastinating moving prep, have not read much since i moved.

the two authors i spent the most time with this year were Alexis Hall (romance novels and novellas) and Raymond Chandler's noir detective novels. i read 90% of Raymond Chandler's work in march and went insane about yet another sad bisexual man. Philip Marlowe the cat is named after his pet detective, the human Philip Marlowe.

march was kind of a banger for this category bc in one of what i consider the best tuesdayposts this year, i tried to break down why i fucking hated Frank Miller's Sin City comics so much.

other comics, but ones i loved: Spy X Family, Berserk, weird noir DC miniseries The Human Target.

watching

fallow weeks: 10

notable stuff i watched for the first time (according to letterboxd) that will stick in my head for a bit. some (The Night of the Hunter) i am so glad i watched once but do not feel the need to revist. some (Slipstream) fascinate me with how good they could have been. some (Twilight. all of them) were fun bc of the people i watched them with. the two i went particularly deranged over are The Big Sleep and Day of Anger. still feel very normal about them.

very heavy on crime and courtroom films this year!

television: very excited for s2 of Blue Eye Samurai, Interview With The Vampire, Spy X Family.

i should loop back and finish Black Lagoon, Adventure Time (completely forgot i rewatched most of that this spring), and The Big O. that last one is throwing me a little bc (since i last checked) there is no freely available version with subtitles (i cannot find subtitles Period) and i'll be damned if i have to import a dvd. i can find the dub with subtitles but! i want to hear spike spiegel as mecha-batman :(

sort of lukewarm eh-i'll-get-around-to-it about s/tar wars shows. i have not watched a/hsoka At All or wrapped up the animated Resistance show. i'll pay attention when ando/r is airing again.

fallow weeks: 10. way fewer than i would have guessed!

the trouble with this category is that it is exceptionally hard to find new good games (either ones i already own or ones that are free). it is almost completely prohibitively exhausting to trawl through the free category on steam. there's simply a lot of cruft out there. a very good thing (but also incredibly timeconsuming thing) i started this year was throwing games into various folders so the eight bajillion libraries i have are less overwhelming. i can safely ignore 80% of my epic games library, for example. the itch.io library is a whole separate weekend project i think.

got back into genshin for good or for ill, which took up most of the back half of the year.

i would like to go back and finish the RPG Gamedec, un-softblock myself in the RPG Weird West, and finish the visual novel Dead Man's Rest. i think i stalled out in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger bc there was a mexican standoff that my reflexes are simply not fast enough for/too much to pay attention to. i am excited to pick up that spooky fishing simulator DREDGE when i have fun money again.

completely forgot i spent most of jan/feb/march being annoyed at fallou/t 4 but having some fun in Far Harbor, also forgot i spent an entire month playing through Wolfenstein: The New Order but i am not compelled to play through it again. it was fun! but like many games after one playthrough my time with it is done!

making

fallow weeks: 17 (unsurprising, pretty low energy year as a whole as i recovered from covid rounds 1 and 2 and the frankly insane stress of moving).

wrote exactly one fic: some matters at the heart of cowboy western snap shirts: why they are so and some of the implications of their being so, i would like to write more next year but i don't really have the brainpower. i hope this changes soon.

the baby blanket i started last year is still not done but the baby is still under a year so i have a very narrow window of time.

recipes: 12. sort of shocked by this? i am becoming an incrementally better cook and slowly finding recipes i both like and can successfully execute. found the fortitude to caramelize onions, for example. quick pickled red onions, for another thing. big year for protein or greens on top of beans and rice. faves included: cuban-style pork shoulder, hellofresh peruvian chicken, red lentil soup, white bean/kale/rice bowls

?????? this shit is getting ridiculous 😭 i've never seen fandom infighting going so far and get so dramatic i feel like everyone really, really needs to take a couple steps back here. as an actual rape and abuse survivor myself seeing people using it as a pawn in their stupid game about fictional characters is so fucking maddening. the roundabout way they're not directly saying people could consider this act ed performed sexual assault is actually sickening (like this concept is a weapon they're CHOOSING not to wield, not a serious thing that they shouldn't just be flinging around like it means nothing) and using it as a way to further how izzy is the real Good Guy with no thought to how the things they're saying affect real world victims is insane, beyond tone deaf and compassion void. goes double for all the abuse apologism people happily fling about obviously as well as if abuse survivors just aren't in fandom and can see the shit they go around saying.

this is the most abnormal fandom environment i've ever witnessed in my life and i've been in some BAD ones. the victimising complexes of certain izzy fans are bizarre...

this isn't like a plea for everyone to just Get Along because i do think people should be aware of certain sociopolitical and intracommunity issues like this and willing to call out and expel abhorrent behaviour including abuse apologism, racism, homophobia/transphobia and transmisogyny, and of course harassment, but it's really on another level... i really wish everyone would just really utilise the block button or even just old fashioned DNI's and address things as they come up and communicate if necessary without waiting around like a spider in a web to jump down people's throats/start conversations that will just end in argument 😭 i understand that it's warranted and people on "both sides" are acting in similar ways but it's starting to feel less like occasional normal amounts of discourse and more like a really uncomfortable environment and it can't be healthy for anyone involved. sorry i kind of went on a tangent there lol all of that is generalising and directed at this fandom as a whole fwiw.

....that's....WHAT?! I mean, yeah, if Izzy did that, it would be not great, because of who the characters are, but that is one fucking weird hypothetical.

I am still new here, but coming in from the outside and wading into the tags was and continues to be fucking weird. Because 9/10s of the posts are fine, and then there's this strange, distressing faction that is very small but so vocal as to make it hard on everyone else. I've seen a lot of posts that are just explicitly dismissive of emotional and psychological abuse, or are attempting to justify those things as Not Really Abuse. Yes, this is a fictional show; no, it is not perfect in its representation, and there's stuff that I wish they had done differently or better. But there are also real-world things in there, and one of the things that I've liked about it is how it upends a lot of the problematic tropes and expectations of the genre.

I've said before that I'm troubled by anyone who looked at Izzy in Season 1 and went "that's my guy, he's never done anything wrong" and MEANT IT and continue to mean it.

Most of the folks I've interacted with have been lovely. There's this small group who just...are not, but who very badly want everyone else to conform to their particular brand of not-okayness. It's fucking dangerous.

I strongly recommend blocking immediately. The more you block, the better tailored your experience will be to you and the less you have to deal with the assholes.

Olá olá, I am back back again (I survived a week-long exam and 4 hours of sleep)

I know in theory LGB has an Appalachian accent in the movie I remember seeing some complaints from the audience <3 (isn't it fascinating and horrible when the audience confirms why a certain trait in a character is vital and revolutionary?)

It's really a shame that Sejanus and LGB barely interact in the book because I know they would have understood each other very well (and YES they really are alike, again the big difference between them is that Sejanus most of the time wouldn't stand for doing an act while LGB has survived from doing one but unlike Snowflake, she still strives for her humanity and doing good like Sejanus. UGH MAKE THEM BESTIES).

While I hate to say it because the movie turned the games into an entertaining spectacle I agree that it had several of the best changes from the book. Reaper scene was simply powerful and yes Wovey snakes scene was absolutely heartbreaking. Even Coral with the role she was given felt more like a whole person than in the text and from what I hear there are many deleted scenes of her and how she goes about developing her strategy that I really hoped one day they might see the light of day.

I also have so much to say about the arena scene. There are so many minor changes that make me freak out in a bad way. First of all that Ma Plinth's presence in the Snow's apartment is removed. As you say I think they could have kept that moment to give more punch to Sejanus' last words and it really didn't take up much time.

Then the implications of Sejanus bribing a guard, when in the book it's all to his credit and even a way to one-up Gaul herself that HE WILL GET IN THERE. And finally that: Sejanus wasn't really going to protest, he didn't expect anyone to come to his rescue, because he NEVER PLANTED TO GET OUT ALIVE (another change that made me groan in the movie but well I got plenty of forehead touch at least but I agree with everything you say about Sejanus.

Because yes even if I want to rip the heads off of everyone who does bad takes of Sejanus in tiktok, I certainly can't blame them, in the movie he is that naive and spoiled which is sad.

Talking more about the changes to me Coriolanus from the book and the movie are two different people in my head, there are so many changes between the two and their arcs are so different that it's hard to reconcile them (for me) in the same person tbh (I only get to do that from the idea: movie is Snow propaganda: its how people SEE him, etc).

I think Coriolanus story along with the decision to make Sejanus not know about the weapons are the clearest evidence of one of the biggest flaws I think the movie has (and at the same time I think it's impossible that we could get a big budget adaptation without this flaw) and that is how much it fears being political (Not that it doesn't prompt reflection on certain serious issues and of course they are not afraid to talk about Panem's policies but from there to other policies...)

Coriolanus as a prejudiced and oppressive teenager who has the opportunity to see up close different perspectives than those he has known from subjects he contributes to oppressing and even experiences firsthand the injustices of the system decides in the end not to change his mind and become not only complicit but an active agent in the flawed and inhumane system is not an alien story. It is the daily life of many people. In fact I'm sure Coriolanus vocalizing some of his more deranged thoughts in the movie wouldn't have scared people as much as many believe and would still be as popular just because Tom played him.

While Sejanus on the other hand is clearly one of the voices of reason in the book, he is one of the few who denounces injustices and tries to do something. If Sejanus knew about the weapons and even bought them, it would be a way of legitimizing violent resistance as an appropriate measure and valid to change the system and well it is USA. That doesn't suit them so Sejanus had to be downgraded to what a "decent rebel" would be: a no violent and smart one BUT WHO KNOWS. I DONT

Finishing this movie issue I agree that it was criminal that they took Lysistrata away from us but I think you put it best in words the matter with the academy students in the movie. They clearly tried to make most of the mentors mean and cruel to their tributes so that Coriolanus stands out as the "good" and humane one.

I have to agree that it should be a requirement to read the book and look I usually believe in book adaptations can be their own world apart but I ask on my knees to the only movie fans who want to have an opinion about Sejanus - LGB or write about them to READ THE BOOK.

Now let's talk about fics. I'm curious do you have some favorite fics in the fandom? I have a few that I think are excellent (😝 I had my fav fics, you've written several of them haha but there are also others like this fic where Coriolanus has a dream with LGB and Sejanus after killing them and with ultra symbolic details. Or the fic where Coriolanus was poisoned with the same poison that causes you halucinations in THG and sees Sejanus, etc) but I want to know what you read buddy. Btw I hope you have read the second one shot of that baby Sejanus series in the war during D2 because for me it is canon now that the Plinth suffered an attack in post war times in D2. I am very normal...

Also I'm sorting out still my thoughts on carcara but you destroyed me emotionally 🥰🥰 hope that sums it up well. Me crying for Strabo? That's another level. Speaking of the Plinth, Ma Plinth's ideas contributing in the games ate direct to the Quarter Quell fic idea that is in building. I had vagues ideas and some phrases that I want to use without any context:

I swear to god that there are few audiences that are so determinated to prove the point of the original work like the thg/tbosas audience, it's quite insane. how do you go out from a movie that criticizes xenophobia and prejudice and then proceeds to... complain abt lucy gray's accent?? media literacy is really dead 😭

yessssss I really wishe they could've had more time together, because they have so much in common :(( lucy gray at least have the covey, but I really wished sejanus could hang out with someone who could actually understand him in the sense of what it means not being able to fit in, and lucy gray is just- they would be perfect friends if coriolanus wasn't around. AND YES!!! I always joke that coriolanus made it too obvious that he had type bc sejanus and lucy gray are too alike, but non-ironically, I think it's interesting how alike they are in storytelling terms (specially bc their final decision is the opposite; sejanus runs to coriolanus and it kills him, and lucy gray runs away from him... and it still "kills" her). I've seen a post around here that made a lot of sense, where the person said that sejanus is lucy gray if she had more privilege and a chance of keeping her innocence, while lucy gray is sejanus if he was forced to mature earlier and learn how to survive. ughhhh they should've been besties and slander coriolanus together

yesssss, plus, ironically, I feel like the movie made the tributes even more human than the book (tbosas has a big difference regarding thg, which is: we actually know the names of EVERY. SINGLE. TRIBUTE). everything regarding the tributes in the movie, I thought it was fantastic (ofc I missed some of them, like the D3 guys, but I understand they chose to focus on just some tributes). also, I don't remember in the book the plot regarding treech leaving lamina behind to get with coral's group, and I thought that was another interesting details on giving more personality and backstory to the tributes. reaper and dill, too, loved how they made him protect her and care for her, it was really precious. and, oh my god, I forgot talking abt that on the other post, but CORAL IN GENERAL!!! I really loved coral in the movie, and her last line and the way it was delivered was HEARTBREAKING. yesssss really wish one day we can see the deleted scenes, because FOR SURE there are plenty (I mean.... I would beg on my knees for the 4 hrs cut....)

the thing with tbosas is that there are plenty of small details, small things, that make a big difference on how you view characters and how you view the story. and the thing about the movie is: they got rid of these small details. and THAT'S the biggest problem with the arena scene: these small details really impacted some aspects of the storytelling. and you put them very well, I couldn't agree more 😭 I HAD EVEN FORGOT ABT THE THING WITH THE GUARD. but yeaaaaaaah people who saw the movie don't really get that he was straight up trying to kill himself... think abt rose on titanic when she was about to jump from that ship. it was pure despair, and she didn't ask for the guy to try to come and save her and risk his life in the proccess. anyway, these small changes regarding sejanus are so weird man, because are small things that actually impact on the storytelling and how the audience view him. getting rid of his relationship with ma, getting rid of the fact that he's suicidal, implying he bribed a guard. idk, it just feels really weird to me, specially bc sejanus is a foil to coriolanus.

(I try to not think a lot abt the arena scene bc I REALLY like the forehead touch, love how in the movie that's a thing coriolanus does to the people he shows to love: sejanus, tigris, lucy gray, and only these three).

yes, I absolutely agree with you regarding coriolanus!! I've said before that coriolanus in the movie is almost sweet to me. he was brave when he entered that car with the tributes, he risked his life entering that arena after the explosions for lucy gray, he laughed at sejanus' comebacks at arachne and festus. he has his fucked up moments, but mostly, it really seemed like a corrupt society corrupting a decent, but ambitious and a tad little mean young boy. they really dracomalfoy-ed him 😭 (and yessss that's how I usually explain the movie to ppl who didn't read the book, that coriolanus seems sweet because you don't know what the hell he's thinking and how nasty his thoughts are).

AND YES!!! YES, YES, YES!!! YOU ARE SO ON POINT!!! the adaptation of a highly political book FEARS BEING POLITICAL.

okay, so, I talked about this before, but context is extremely important to understand some works, and that's the case of tbosas: it's a book that was published in 2020, a highly political and tense time for the usa. but the most worrying about these times was that young people, young boys were falling under dangerous and extreme political propaganda from the far right. privileged straight white boys from working class falling under this kind of agenda and propaganda, even though they for sure had the ways to search up and understand that this was wrong, that this was oppression and they are just tools for a system much bigger than them. maybe they were raised like this, raised to believe in those indocrinated views and ways that they should have more right than everyone else, that they are better than everyone else... but what if they had the chance to change? to know people who are different from them and are the target of this oppressive system? would they change? can they change?

it sounds familiar, doesn't it?

coriolanus is bigoted because he was raised by adults who are bigoted in an environment full of bigotry (okay that boys who are raised by their grandmas are already red flags, but his grandma in particular, my GOD, no surprise she raised a fascist). but he has contact with people who are oppressed. he knows sejanus in first hand, who even though lives in the capitol, is relentlessly harassed and bullied for being different, for being district. then he meets lucy gray, and he has the opportunity to talk directly to someone who had their whole family killed by this cruel system and who faces the cruelty against the districts in first hand, living in the districts. and even coriolanus himself isn't safe from the capitol's oppression: he knows hunger, he knows poverty.

and what he does with all of this? he gets sejanus killed, tries to kill lucy gray and becomes a dictator to make panem even more oppressive. and even when he's in love with lucy gray, is so bizarre how he REFUSES to see district people as people, because in his head, in order for him to be in love with lucy gray, then it's because she isn't district: it's because she doesn't belong in the districts. he does a whole mental gymnastic regarding this, on how different she is, on how that justifies him being attracted to her.

he chooses to be that way.

yes, the society he lives in plays a big part on how he's molded, but in the end... these are his choices. and that's pretty much what suzanne collins (imo) wanted to pass with this book. it's almost a cautionary tale.

(also you're so right lmao people would still love coriolanus just bc it's tom playing him 😭 and it's quite insane bc it proves the point of the book, that coriolanus is able to get away with a lot of things exactly because he's attractive)

and yessss!!! sejanus is the moral compass of the book, whenever a discussion is getting too morally grey, he appears and makes the reader come back to reality and understand that it doesn't matter this is dystopia, because THIS. ISN'T. RIGHT. there's a whole ass line that says that sejanus is moved by the urge of doing the right thing, always. so if that boy was willing to get his hand on guns, it's because it was the right thing to do. so yeah, I'm disappointed but not really surprised they changed this detail, specially when you consider everything that's going on... it just makes me really sad because in the current context, sejanus is such an important character, and he really had everything to be a fan favourite. but they changed his storyline to make it seem that having these kind of ideals are too absurd or too naive :(

anyways, love a guy who knows that violent resistance is valid resistance (rip sejanus, you would've loved diarios de motocicleta by che, I just know it) <3

I'm still mourning over lysistrata, I was living for her and jessup's dynamic, they were so cute and precious.... like lucy gray and coriolanus, but without the toxicity that makes lucy gray and coriolanus who they are lmao. I also believe that movies have the right to be interpretated in a sole way!!! but for this I open an exception bc lgb and sejanus are characters that are so special to me, I can't STAND when I see someone slandering them but they're clearly talking about the movie, like, YOU DON'T KNOW THEM LIKE I DO!!! the golden heart & the golden voice. this is a series actually, it has only two works, but it's focused on sejanus and lucy gray interacting. it's so good!!! very bittersweet, but I live for these bairdplinth crumbs <3

and they called it puppy love. a very old fanfic, from the time tbosas was first published, and it's a character study regarding sejanus' dynamics with marcus and coriolanus. it's very bittersweet and heartbreaking, but so good.

ma. another old one that's SO GOOD, this is a character study from sejanus' pov during his execution and some of his thoughts regarding coriolanus and his ma. it's as heartbreaking as it sounds.

parallel lines. I won't say much about this one, just that it damaged me emotionally and changed the chemistry of my brain. it's really worth reading tho because it's one of the best things I've read.

(also, I love reading modern aus with different plots and stuff, but I've found so few :( but it's okay because the canon compliant fics are amazing, just mentioning it)

AND AGAIN, ANOTHER ADORABLE THOUGHT, sejanus is that kind of child who basically have every toy he wishes, so when marcus tells him the plushies are sejanus', he's like "but my pa can give me another!!! :)" and that's how marcus ends up with a lot of expensive plushies who were actually sejanus' (he promised to take care of every single one, so he has these plushies until nowadays <3 sejanus finds it adorable when he goes to marcus' room and finds ALL of his old plushies still there)

drunk strabo is probably so funny oh my god, he'll start complaining to a random painting about how sejanus grew up and is an ungrateful brat that doesn't value his opportunities, then you give him 30 minutes and he'll be on the verge of tears because he misses when sejanus was a baby so much. but you're actually so right 😭 you can probably hear sejanus and strabo screaming at each other from, like, a house away (vesta is so tired, someone save her please

coriolanus is that kind of guy that goes to meet his in-laws and he's not even nervous because he thinks so high of himself, OF COURSE he'll do good, of course mr. plinth will adore him (they have so much in common!!!) and mrs. plinth will love him. but then he meets his in-laws and mr. plinth kinda hates him and mrs. plinth thinks he's a little silly. it's even funnier if you think it's a birthday from a baby cousin from sejanus, so the house is full of children and they're all seeing coriolanus failing miserably <3 but next time he has the opportunity to dance with ma plinth and he's READY this time (sejanus is so proud

I'M SCREAMINGGGGGGG it's even funnier if you imagine that strabo isn't that fond of coriolanus at first 😭 he thinks sejanus deserves better and that boy isn't suited for him, so strabo is there complaining abt coriolanus and sejanus is there hearing like "hm. oh, yeah. sure. I wonder if I know someone who's just like that."

BUDDIE. BUDDIEEEEEE, let me tell one fun fact. when I was writing the carrie au, and I included marcus, I made him boricua too, but I was like "he gives me cuban vibes.... idk why, but he gives....." (atp I already knew he was going to be latino too tho); I ended up going with making marcus boricua bc I wanted to give sejanus someone to bond with the same background as him (bc of the story and etc, etc) but marcus just gives cuban vibes, idk why, you're so right!!! and also, TELL ME MORE ABT THESE IDEAS BC I LOVE THEM!!! I love this so much!!!! and coriolanus' dynamic with sejanus is even more interesting, because while coriolanus gives in 100% to assimilation, sejanus resists it with everything he can. have you watched in the heights, the musical? because I can totally see the latam au working in that setting!!! coriolanus lived in the usa for a while now in a small town and always lied abt his origins, but he moves to new york for college and now he's living in a neighbourhood FULL of latin-americans and he can't run from it anymore, no matter how hard he tries (and plus, he meets lucy gray and sejanus, who are SO different from him regarding how they face assimilation; sejanus specifically is so politically engaged, he WILL force coriolanus to become a better person)

I've listened to it and LOVED IT, tbosas has a very twisted fairytale-like sense to me, and it just fits so much!!!

(also, I won't explain why and I'm not sure if it makes sense, but it just gives my snowbairdplinth- specifically, coriolanus' pov about these two poor souls)

TYSMMMM 🥹 and absolutely agree!!! one thing I adore from suzanne collins' writing is that she leaves the description of some characters' appearences to be quite vague, so you're free to imagine them how you desire (and this caught my attention, specifically, because when the first images of tbosas dropped, I remember someone commenting that they were surprised with sejanus' casting bc they imagined him to be black, and yeah, you can totally imagine him the way you want bc there's not a very specific description of him, and the same goes for A LOT of characters, even lucy gray isn't that specific regarding her appearence). I love the cast of the movie, but at the same time, it would be lovely to see how each person imagine these characters bc I know we would see so many different interpretations and thoughts <3

saw some poll asking when wei wuxian fell in love with lan wangji and the 2nd leading option was in between when he got resurrected and yi city or some shit and this result was so offensive to me personally that i am still thinking about it months later

in the latest deranged job search situations i seemingly got an interview with someone who both wants to hire me and does not literally baffling interaction after baffling interaction.. like he was kind of idk awkward in the interview and asked almost zero questions about me just decided to monologue about the company values and good customer service and told me to call him the next day to ask if i got the job AFTER he told me to give him my email address again which surely seems like an easier mode of communication ok whatever odd but not insane yet so the next day i call he doesnt answer i call again he says actually we arent hiring for the location i interviewed you at but we have openings at this other location he seemed annoyed i wanted to simply look up where it was before agreeing and said to call him back and hung up on me ok weird whatever i call him back after determining it is in fact not too far away whatever and hes like um ok uh ill call you tomorrow with more details after i talk to the manager at that location and im like can you email me and hes like sure so its 5pm the next day and im like ok calls again he answers he still barely seems to know who i am he indicates hes also attempting to hire managers i still dont even know what his position at this business is but its a small restaurant chain with two locations and hes probably the owner??? hes like ok can we schedule you for signing paperwork on monday start on tuesday and says there needs to be 24 hours to process the paperwork before i start working every interaction has been so bizarre and like pulling teeth im vaguely confused how he could manage to process it in time for starting the next day and say yes thats fine with moderate hesitation and hes like i can call you back in 20 minutes for you to think it over im like no tuesday is fine but hes like ok ill call you back in 20 minutes with more info and i have not heard from him since like literally what on earth is going on over there... like do you want employees????? just say you dont want to hire me literally baffling interactions it felt more like idk am i being suckered into a pyramid scheme or something who behaves like this but whatever i guess i dont have a job after all truly deranged experience everyone loves to play games with me forever and ever and ever
