“I love you,” she said in sweeter tones, even more sad ones. “I know I’m not what you want. I know I’m not a choice, but…” Cross closed her lonely eyes. “I have to love a little longer to finally let you go.”
Tumblr media
-🌙 Guren watched her with his red eyes. The marks to show that he was being possessed. He actually smiled a little. So Cross was trying to appeal to him through love. It might it would have worked....if Guren was out. He had been put to sleep.
-🌙 The raven walked over and whispered into Cross's ear. "Do you really think that you can save him with love?" Mahiru knew Guren's heart all too well. He would have told her to shove it, but maybe it was time to cause a little chaos.
-🌙 "If you were not a choice....do you think there would be a place in his heart for you? You leave him, you will add to the list of people that he loves that has left."

Shidou audio drama (t2) - English TL
[ links: Spotify / Youtube ]
Thank you Shidou for going on a deep dive into both medicine and law in one drama. I have not learned this much new vocabulary in a while lmao (Jokes aside though, I do hope that I managed to get through this without any major errors! As always, if you find any mistakes anyway or just have questions, feel free to bring them to my ask box or my Twitter ✨)
Also, there's a direct quote from the Japanese criminal law at one point in this vd - the translation of that line is based on this translation of Japanese law.
⬇️ full voice drama translation under the cut ⬇️
(door opens)
E: It’s been a while, Shidou.
S: Orbital floor fracture on the right. Traumatic retinal detachment. Bruising. Lacerations. Partial fracture of the thorax. This is Kajiyama-kun’s present condition.
E: I know that. I didn’t anticipate Kotoko’s behavior, either. For now, I’ll be taking the opportunity of this second trial to judge–
E: Fuuta’s…
S: Shiina-kun’s is even worse. Head lacerations. Bruising all over her body. Left anterior compression fracture. A sprained neck. Fractured ribs. Further fracturing to the left arm. And furthermore… this may be outside of my profession, but her mental health is deteriorating as well.
E: Mahiru…
S: Both their minds and bodies are at their limits. Let’s stop this already, Es-kun. A lot has happened while you were gone. At this rate, someone might end up dead.
S: That’s not what I mean! I think we should put an end to Milgram as a whole. Both for our sake and for yours.
E: …That’s impossible.
S: Why?
E: I can’t think of any method of stopping it… or any way to get out.
S: …!
E: Milgram won’t end just because I want it to. That’s all I know. It won’t end until your judgment is complete. That’s the core of it.
S: You’re… the same as us, aren’t you? You just got caught up in a bigger picture.
E: Don’t lump me in with you! You’re an inmate, I’m the Warden. Now that I’ve started this, I intend to see it through until the end.
S: Es-kun…
E: Anyways, your eyes sure have gained some life since we last saw each other. Back then, you always wore an expression that made it hard to tell whether you were alive or dead, but…
S: Is that so?
E: Is it because you’ve received the result of the first trial…?
S: About that… I’ve been thinking that I would like to hear your thoughts. Why did you forgive me? Even though I asked not to be forgiven.
E: Why would the Warden listen to what a prisoner tells them? I decide based on my own standards.
S: You saw my true self, didn’t you? There ought to be very few people who have killed more than I have. In comparison to me, the prisoners who weren’t forgiven have also hardly done anything wrong.
E: You’re a doctor. I’ve deduced that your murders happened in the context of medical procedures.
S: …
E: Organ transplants… in other words, the act of removing organs from braindead patients. That’s what your murder is. Am I wrong?
S: I see. So that’s what was shown in the footage?
E: Not that straight-forward, of course. But from the information given, we came to the conclusion that this is the most likely scenario.
S: Hm? ‘We’...?
E: …
S: You said ‘we’ just now...
E: …Did I… say that…?
S: Yes.
E: …Fine. Don’t worry about it. Let’s get back to the topic. The topic of what I deduced, that is.
S: It’s impressive, isn’t it… Milgram… After all this time, I won’t try to deny it being a top class prison, but it really is the real thing.
E: Is that your way of saying I was right?
S: Well… About halfway, I would say.
E: Hmph. Either way, I judged that murders as the result of medical practices could be forgiven. Without regard to what you were hoping for.
S: …
E: I intend to investigate in my own way. Whether or not it’s okay to regard braindead patients entirely as dead… it seems that this has become an increasingly controversial topic in recent years.
S: You’ve done your research.
E: I don’t care about the discussions of your world, though. I decided that you could be forgiven. That’s enough.
S: … Why is that?
E: In the first place, getting involved with organ transplants is part of your job as a doctor. I doubt it’s something that you did out of your own free will.
S: I… I took a lot of pride in my work. I considered it a good deed. I wouldn’t say I didn’t do it out of my own will.
E: Well, you did it to save people, didn’t you? In truth, there must have been a fair amount of people whom you did save with it.
S: I thought so, too. Doing it for a good cause without a single doubt.
E: In exchange for the life of a person who has no option left but to await death, you can save a person who has the chance to live on, right? In that case, you shouldn’t even have to think twice.
S: I thought so, too… arrogant as I was.
E: Is that to say that you don’t think that way anymore?
S: Yes, that’s right. You know, I… continuously tried to persuade the relatives of a braindead patient who were against organ transplants. Giving them reasons like the ones you just mentioned, Es-kun. “In order to save the life of someone you don’t know, please let me kill your family,” I told them. It doesn’t even take much thinking to realize how cruel that is, but… I didn’t realize it until the very end.
E: … Isn’t that just a placebo? I would think that family ties play no role in that context.
S: Do you still feel that way if it’s your own family?
E: …
S: Es-kun, is your family alive and well?
E: I don’t know… I don’t remember.
S: Is that so? I’m sorry about that.
E: It’s fine. It’s not like I feel any particular way about something I don’t even remember. Besides, I don’t think my judgment would change even if it involved my own family.
S: There’s no way.
E: Even if my family happened to end up imprisoned in Milgram, I would see my job through to the end.
S: Family is… special.
E: Huh?
S: Let’s digress for a moment. Have you studied criminal law?
E: Well, the most important parts at least. I’ve been learning about it since I started working as the Warden.
S: Excellent. So, for example, if someone harbors a criminal or tampers with evidence in order to protect that criminal, that is a crime in itself, right?
E: That’s articles 103 and 104.
S: You remembered well. Can you recall article 105 as well?
E: No… Are you familiar with it?
S: It’s not my area of expertise, but I remember it because it left a big impression on me. Article 105 states that, “when a crime prescribed under the preceding two Articles is committed for the benefit of the criminal or fugitive by a relative of such person, the relative may be exempted.”
E: So essentially, even if someone covered for a criminal or helped them out, they won’t be held legally responsible for it if the criminal is part of their family?
S: That’s right. For me, no matter whether it’s according to the law or in any other context, it’s only normal to help each other in a family.
E: That’s a very fascinating story. But even with all this, I still don’t get what you’re trying to say.
S: (chuckles) I wonder. Maybe I just wanted you to listen to it.
E: … As always, I can’t entirely wrap my head around you.
S: I’m talking about how, unlike you, I can no longer claim that I’m doing my work for a good cause. I’ve lost the right to.
E: And something happened that changed your mind?
S: That’s… right. Although you’ll probably be finding out about that once you watch the extracted footage.
E: Yeah. Let’s have a look.
S: Es-kun. I’ve killed a lot of people. Like I previously told you in the interrogation, I’ve killed for selfish reasons as well. So…
E: Are you about to beg me not to forgive you again? Even though I’ve already told you it’s no use?
S: That’s right. Please don’t forgive me… is what I would like to ask.
E: …
S: I… “I don’t want to be forgiven”. That feeling of mine remains the same. I need to be punished. I need to atone for my sins. I don’t think Milgram is in the right, but…! There is no better place than this to atone for my crimes. But… as long as Milgram continues like this… we won’t be able to save those who get injured if I don’t get forgiven!
E: …!
S: Even now, Shiina-kun is still in a condition where any digression could be fatal. She can’t live without my treatment. If I’m not forgiven, she will end up dying!
E: That’s… true, I suppose.
S: From now on, conflicts between the prisoners will probably become more frequent. If I’m not there… they will be in even more danger.
E: Shidou…
(machinery whirrs, bell rings)
S: I need to be punished… but I need to stay alive, or young lives will be lost. I… I don’t know what to wish for anymore. I’m starting to think… that I want to live. That I want to be forgiven. Despite being so riddled with sins…!
E: … Shidou. Do you remember what I told you?
S: …
E: Back when you were still fine with dying at any moment, I told you to desperately want to live. “Because we have an attachment to life, punishments for sins exist in the first place. Your existence in itself is a sacrilege to Milgram and myself,” I said.
S: Yes… I remember.
E: And now, finally, you’ve gotten attached to life and become a real prisoner of Milgram. That’s what I believe. You wanting to be forgiven, and your wish… those are the steps that now represent you.
S: … That won’t do… I mustn’t be forgiven. Otherwise… the countless lives I’ve taken will never be paid back.
E: Heh. If you’re really trying to give your life as compensation for the people you’ve killed, then there’s no reason to stay alive that will hold up, anyway.
S: …
E: Don’t face them with a life that you’re easily willing to throw away.
S: Es-kun, you’re a… strict… person, aren’t you?
E: I told you before, didn’t I? Because you’re the type of person I dislike the most.
S: (chuckles) It’s a pity. Since coming to Milgram, I’m being hated by children left and right. Even though I do like them.
E: Hmph. Like I care. But… but, you know…
S: Hm?
E: Thank you for saving Fuuta and Mahiru. I’m glad you’re here in Milgram, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
S: Es…kun…
E: That’s all. Prisoner no.5, Shidou – sing your sins.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mahiru just a fictional chatacter but get me so emotional like this like... wtf... I mean, finally bro. You showed them what you got eh?
Tumblr media
The moment it happens, everyone just stop and stare like YEA THAT MY BABY THERE!! I noticed that Tooru speaks a lot here, I'm dying to understand what he said 😭😭😭.
No you don't understanddd!! This scene, this particular scene show some hope in that bleak moment.. Tokyo has been engulfed in darkness, people are dying, what they need the most at that point is someone to say that they can do it!! And Mahiru just did that!!
Anyway! Look at Youtarou being cutie older brother smiling from ear to ear.
Carry on!
Tumblr media
And I don't know why sloth is crying at this moment 🤣. If he's like me and being a proud mama then I totally understand. If my translate wasn't wrong he said something like "aaaa, it's so bright (?)" but Idk..
And KURO!! Oh boy kuro..
Tumblr media
No comment just crying 😭😭. Yes, that's your eve baby. Thank you for trusting each other 😭😭. I didn't get to capture the next scene (coz I don't want to spoil to much LOL) but Kuro is standing again and ready to fight back.
Just... I really wanna kiss them both rn..
Now back to the corner to cry

Remembering how Futa said in one timeline that there’s no way a woman could beat a man in a fight and got his ass beat. Can you do a crackfic of the girls beating him up for that?
Ahahaha thank you for the request!! This was really fun to write omg -- and well deserved, there was no need for all that in the timeline convo 😤 He was too busy thinking of leverages and forms he failed to consider the fury of a woman scorned..... may he rest in peace......
Fuuta didn’t even know what he did to earn himself an ass-beating.
“Oh, you know what you did,” Yuno said. She closed the cell door behind her.
Whatever it was, it had managed to anger every woman on the premises. He thought it took a lot to get girls riled up this much – something like cheating on them or calling them names, you know? But without a single action on his part, he found himself facing Yuno, Muu, and Amane. All three had a fire in their eyes that Fuuta was not liking the look of.
Mahiru had pointed him to his cell, saying Es was looking for him there. She spoke strangely as she did it, and waited awkwardly outside as he went in, but everyone around here was a little odd. How was he supposed to distinguish when people were being murderer-in-a-supernatural-prison weird from setting-a-trap-to-corner-him-in-his-cell weird?
He waved his palms in front of him. “Listen, listen! Let’s just talk, okay? Let’s slow down.”
Muu cracked her knuckles.
Amane began rolling up her sleeves in perfect creases. “You have doubted our abilities. We will make you a believer.”
Fuuta took a few steps back. His voice came out loud and frantic. “What are you talking about? If you’re looking to pick a fight, you better think twice, because I’m not gonna hit a girl or anything.”
“Oh, good!” Yuno’s voice was as bubbly as always as the three closed in. “That will make our job a lot easier.”
He felt his back hit the wall. “I mean it, let’s just talk about this for a sec! Hey!”
Mikoto’s voice came from outside the cell.
“Mappi? What’s going on in there?”
“Yes!” Fuuta called, “Mikoto! Help! They’re gonna kill me in here!”
“Oh, no need to worry~ The girls are just teaching him a little lesson about not saying awful things.”
“Isn’t this going a bit too far…? What did he even say?”
“Nothing! Come on, get me the fuck outta here!”
“I believe his exact words were, ‘there’s no way a girl could win in a fight against a man.’”
Fuuta paled. He did say that, didn't he...
“Oh crap. Yeah, that’d do it. Carry on.”
“Wha–? Mikoto!”
He gaped at the three in front of him.
He remembered a hero in a video game who had faced off against an unbeatable foe; a glorious knight who came to understand that he could never conquer the world-razing dragon before him. After giving his all, and seeing his fate was sealed, the hero had no choice. In a manly show of valor, he’d lifted his chin, closed his eyes, and accepted his impending, gory death.
Yuno's gaze was cold as she raised her arms. Muu had a hungry look in her eyes. Amane clenched her fists, her posture perfect.
It wasn’t a dragon, but Fuuta would argue this was a good deal more dangerous. He lifted his chin and squeezed his eyes shut.
“Get ‘em, girls!”
Kotoko approached just as the other girls filed out of Fuuta’s cell. They had giddy looks on their faces. They giggled and whispered in a huddle as they walked around the panopticon.
“Wow, Muu!”
“Haha, I didn’t know you had it in you!”
“That felt amazing…”
Kotoko didn’t know what kind of game they were all playing in there, but Fuuta was in for a big surprise now. The fun was over. Today was the day she acted out her responsibilities as Es’ fang. Today was the day she delivered justice.
She swung the cell door open. Her eyebrows shot up.
Her head whipped around to take a look at the girls, still complementing one another and laughing lightly.
Hell, her work here was already done.

DR Characters Assigned DC Roles
The main premise of this is that Shuichi Saihara as Robin 3 is both dating civilian Kokichi Oma as Bernard Dowd and flirting/being flirted with by his alter ego Stray. Shuichi has no idea Kokichi is Stray but Kokichi definitely knows Shuichi is Robin 3. What order do these events happen in? Who knows!
The Bats and Birds
Batman (The Bat): Kyoko Kirigiri
Agent A: Makoto Naegi
Robin 1, Nightwing: Kaede Akamatsu
Robin 2, Red Hood: Hajime Hinata
Robin 3, Red Robin: Shuichi Saihara

Martian Manhunter: Ultimate Imposter
Green Lantern: Kazuichi Soda
Captain Marvel: Nagisa Shingetsu

Zatanna: Sayaka Maizono
Black Canary: Mikan Tsumiki
Most of these characters have been assigned DC roles based on their personalities, regardless of gender (except for Superboy and Bizarro since they're clones of Superman so have to be the same gender as him)! I included some Rogues, League of Assassins, Outlaws, Teen Titans and Justice Leaguers because the Batfam interact with them a lot.
In my mind, Kyoko Kirigiri is together with Makoto Naegi and has been for the long term but her as the Bat and Celestia Ludenberg as Catwoman share some flirtatious banter.
Hajime Hinata as Robin 2 died and came back, and when he did he came back different. How much you want to lean into Jason Todd's backstory or Hajime Hinata's and whether you want to include Izuru Kamukuru is up to you.
Kaito Momota may or may not have had an unsuccessful romantic relationship with Shuichi when he was Spoiler and Shuichi was Robin 3. This can be prior to Shuichi meeting Kokichi or Robin 3 and Stray could have had some playful banter going on during this time (this works because Shuichi actually dates civilian Kokichi, which could be after he and Kaito break up). Kaito could be with Maki now!
Yes, this character assignment does mean that Masaru Daimon is Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu's best friend. Yes, that is hilarious.
I was running out of DR characters near the end so I started swapping some around to find suitable Justice Leaguers. Masaru was originally Captain Marvel but then that only left Kotoko Utsugi as an option for Superboy 2 and I thought Fuyuhiko would hate her. So, Masaru became Superboy 2 and Nagisa Shingetsu Captain Marvel. Byakuya Togami was originally assigned as Lucius Fox, the manager of WE, but I had to swap him to Green Arrow because he was just too perfect for that!
I hope you enjoyed! Please like, comment and reblog. Your support is much appreciated.

Forgot to post it...
I know that I should be more invested in deep cover, but it's so overwhelming and my brain is not working greatly today, so I'm just going to state some of my thoughts about the new timeline conversation.
The fact that Mahiru is still very injured, despite being at the end of the trial, gives another great point for the theory that the time is stopped, or is going very slowly. Meaning that, as I predicted before, Mahiru and Fuuta will still be injured in the third trial. Also it's very alarming because any injury sustained can't be healed.
Secondly, I don’t think Fuuta will be fully converted. Yes, the implications are pretty much there, but… I don't think he will act the same way as Amane. See the difference between his conversation and Amane's conversation with Mahiru and how she reacts to them. It's a nice parallel actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amane asks Mahiru how her body is feeling, directly implying the physical injuries. Fuuta, however, asks her if she's doing alright… I think he is talking about both her mental and physical health.
If we take again the theory that the time in Milgram doesn't pass, it might make sense for Fuuta to wonder "How can she be truly saved", because I don't think living a life in which you need constant treatment and your body hurts, it's really great…
It might also be a reason for why Fuuta seems so hopeless actually (his injuries should still hurt too) , I could say that the fire in him slowly extinguishes more and more… (really concerned for him, it feels like we are losing him more and more)
Moreover, he doesn't seem hostile about treatment in general, at least, not now… It's definitely a different reaction than Amane's.
About the mental health part … Fuuta stated in his VD that the voices that he hears are the ones who damaged his well being the most. His mental health wasn't great for a long time, and I don't think Mahiru's was great either, if not it got worse.
Mahiru's answer implies that "she feels saved" just by Fuuta's kindness…
Injuries can't be treated by words, but your mental state can improve a bit… And being approached by the person who you have considered to be a bully, who distanced themselves from the other prisoners for a long time, to see them coming to you and ask you about your well-being…
Of course, this is also Mahiru's way of lifting up the mood and being considerate of Fuuta's kindness.
Also, kindness… Is Fuuta trying to show that he can become a better person? Is this a new way of trying to be a "hero", to "save" people?
"Bringing back the cocky hero again? How embarrassing"

Oh yeah the funniest shit ever-
Mahiru being entirely disinterested in Shidou-
2023/10/24 Shidou's birthday
Mahiru: Shidou-san, you have a family...right? Having family, having children, how does it feel...?
Shidou: ...Yes, it's a wonderful thing. Children are... Well, they're hope itself. When you have children, growing older becomes enjoyable. The more you age, the more your children grow.
Mahiru: Ah...how wonderful. It was my dream to become a bride. It may be a little old-fashioned but, I wanted to make it come true...
Shidou: It's not too late. I will keep you alive, Shiina-kun. Let's get out of here and make that dream come true. ...You still have your whole life ahead of you.
Meanwhile, with Futa-
2024/01/17, Mahiru's birthday
Futa: ......Hey, Mahiru. Are you...doing alright? Isn't there any way you can get better...?
Mahiru: What's wrong, Futa-kun? Yeah, I'm not feeling great... But Shidou-san has been taking care of me all this time. I'm sure if I keep getting treatment like this, I'll get better...
Futa: I see. Continue the treatment, huh... How can you truly be saved, I wonder?
Mahiru: Saved...?? Are you worried about me? ……That's nice of you, Futa-kun. Just thinking that way... Mahiru feels saved already.
Despite Shidou constantly helping her- She has a more positive response to Futa showing concern for her. When he tries to give encouraging words with an undertone of flirting. Since he said let's get out here and make that dream cone true crickets. Again probably because he's not her type and she's stayed this.
20/06/08
Mahiru: Shidou-san…… you’re really good-looking. Personally, I think you’d be better if you ate a bit more, but you’re slim and tall and well put together to boot…… You must’ve been super popular up until now, right?
Shidou: ……yeah, that’s true…… I did my share of fooling around in the past.
Mahiru: Oh~? That’s not the sort of answer I’d expect from you. I’ve got it! Somebody told you that if you replied like that people wouldn’t resent you so much, right?
Shidou: Haha, I’m surprised you guessed. ……it seems that no matter what guise I put on, it’s meaningless against a woman’s insight.
You know who's good with kids reportedly liked by Amane? Mahiru. You know who is a good communicator and on good terms with most in the prison? Mahiru. You know who was able to guess that what Shidou said was due to advice from his wife that helped him because he's usually careless when it comes to personal matters- Mahiru!
"Let's get out of here and make that dream come true."
Meanwhike despite that clear come on when Futa shows comcern someone whom she complained about as no good for being a bully. Well, she started really giving-
"I’m going to start relying on you if you’re kind to me, so please forgive me, thanks!"
Energy if I'm being honest.
"That's nice of you, Futa-kun. Just thinking that way... Mahiru feels saved already."
Meanwhile, Shidou proposing to start a new family like there's still time. Their are lives that need saving mine. I've accepted I can't bring back the dead but maybe I could just start a new family. Meanwhile, Mahiru is just here like "Sorry, I like reciprocity. I want to receive too. So, no... You're still too thin for me on top of that. Meaning I'm just going to politely ignore your advances." And going I already feel saved just from your concern alone to Futa.
These timelines have so many funny implications.

HI @rainbowghostcat and @boxx-sama -- I have been enabled so I'm here to ramble a bit about my faves >:3 Top three are definitely Fuuta, Mahiru, and Yuno! Good taste gang !!🤝✨✨✨
It's a mix of enjoying their songs, genuinely getting into their stories, and relating to them just enough to go a little crazy asdfsd :') Shidou comes in at a close 4th, I love him a lot but I'm not as insane as I am about these guys lmao.
I was holding onto these asks to ramble when I had the time/energy but uuuuhhh I didn't mean to go on for so long sorry 😭 Woe, 03 06 02 thoughts be upon ye...
Tumblr media
Starting with Fuuta!! His character has everything – He’s cool, he’s lame, he’s terrifying, he’s tragic, he’s funny, he’s unbearably real, he’s my silly little guy, he makes me cry, etc. The core of his character that always gets me is how normal he is. How he’s probably closest to the majority of the audience – he (and Kazui) are the only ones who did not have murder on their mind at all. He anticipated harm, but the thought of someone dying never once crossed his mind. He’s right around teens/early twenties. He engages with the online world a lot. So many milgram fans are in that age range, on the internet a lot (in order to enjoy the project and its fanbase), feel a strong sense of justice (since they’re so engaged in a project about morality), and aren’t in any situation dramatic enough that they expect anyone to die. He’s so much like all of us.
Continuing on that, his heart really is in the right place to start. He cares deeply about people and society, which is why he wants to fix it. His vision is a bit small, focusing on petty issues rather than huge social issues, but the point is he cares. He attacks Es because he’s trying to be the brave representative after hearing Haruka and Yuno were attacked. He yells at Kazui and Mahiru because they’re not helping the others. He takes care of Haruka. He gives Mahiru a birthday gift even when he has nothing to give.
His biggest issue is, he doesn’t belong. I’ve written up a whole analysis on how he’s written very neurodivergent: he misses social cues, he’s on the outskirts of friendships and groups. It’s more clear in characters like Haruka and Muu, but Fuuta is just as incredibly desperate for attention. For love. For that feeling of belonging in a group. His knightly fantasies aren’t ones of violence and weapons – they’re mostly scenes of him surrounded by a close-knit party of adventurers who are cheering him on.
All of this together is what makes him so compelling and so tragic to me. All the characters are human and real, but he’s the closest to a lot of viewers (myself included). He let the attention get to his head for just a bit too long, let himself get swept away in finally having friends. He got distracted thinking that the focus of being a hero was defeating, and not protecting. And all it took was a brief time of getting drunk on this attention, and now he has a little girl’s blood on his hands. It makes me absolutely insane.
I also think he’s such a cool special case because he truly got a taste of his own medicine. The other characters are being judged in an unfamiliar way, but he is being scrutinized in the Exact same way that Fuuta pried open others’ privacy. He was attacked and almost died because of Es’ judgment, just as his victim was attacked because of his judgment. The process of Milgram is putting him in his victim’s shoes, and it’s so cool to see.
Aaaaand on a lighter note – he’s just so fun!! He’s my little skrunkly fr!!! I love his shit-eating grin. I love his ridiculous laugh. I love his crooked teeth. I love the knight theme, and the fire symbolism. It’s pretty standard, but it suits him perfectly. He’s got such cool, badass songs! I’m obsessed with his voice, both his singing and vd performances are incredible. His vds are the only ones I’ll listen to often and out of the blue – Arthur Lounsbery uses such an interesting and fun voice for him ;--; His design is so fun (apparently I have a Type for redhead characters…), and his t2 development and design were amazing! There has been no other Milgram character that I want to reach through the screen and shake violently by the shoulders and also hug so badly 😂
Tumblr media
I’m so obsessed with her theme of ‘being so kind that it causes harm’!! Because it’s very easy to dismiss the other characters as unforgivable when you look at the harm they wanted to cause their victim, or disregard they had for their victim’s feelings. But Mahiru… she doesn’t want to cause any harm. At all. She took her boyfriend’s feelings into consideration so much so that she didn’t stop him when she definitely should have. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and yet she fucked up big time!! It’s such a unique type of murder!! The other characters need to be sat down and told “don’t hurt innocents, don’t seek revenge, don’t be selfish, etc” and then Mahiru is over here like “don’t be… nice to people.” Because it’s not about being nice per se – it’s about not being a doormat.
(I know her story is still a bit mysterious – my running theory is that her bf had health issues completely separate from their relationship. They started getting bad and he started to consider suicide. Instead of stopping him, Mahiru combined her need to copy her lover (as seen a lot in TIHTBILWY), her ideas that lovers do everything together, and her belief that one should do anything they set their mind to (as seen in her comments about Es/Kotoko and the attack). She says she’ll join him, make it a lovers’ suicide, but doesn’t follow through at the last second.)
She (and Mikoto) have really interesting themes of how not caring for yourself can actually hurt others. They put all their efforts into giving back to others, to society, fitting into the norms and expectations, not questioning others, and it backfires catastrophically. If she had stood up for herself and her relationship, she would not have assumed anyone deserved to die. She would have known that it wasn’t up to her alone to deal with her bf’s mental issues. She obviously wasn’t handling it correctly (rats….) but she didn’t need to! She should have pointed him to professionals instead of deciding she deserved to die along with him! But she was so poisoned by society’s expectations of being the perfect girlfriend and being considerate of others…
She’s just such a tragic case because the power of love is supposed to be perfect. She’s been taught her whole life that it’s wonderful and magical and pure. Who can kill with the power of love, after all? I can completely understand her denial of the situation, because I also wouldn’t picture a terrifying, dark scene if I knew I was only being nice for my whole life!
And her crime aside – she’s super fun :3 She has The Most Fun songs, she’s full of energy and excitement and enthusiasm! (out of the various english covers I like, hers is the one I jam out to most often hehe). She’s the most stunning character there! I’m a sucker for sunshine-coded characters 🌻🌻🌻I think she has the best symbols out of everyone, between the birdcage and the carousel. The fact that both Mahiru and her bf could be the bird and the cage. The two symbols representing beautiful things that can be trapping. Representing cycles. Representing relationships. I know the hourglass is a popular one but I think this is Yamanaka's finest set of symbols. I am unwell about it. So yeah, rather than give her a good shake I want to yank her right out of there – Get in loser we’re gonna get you some self-love!!!!
Tumblr media
And a slightly shorter rant on Yuno because that was a lot adfsdf. Ad I'm aware of the irony that one of my points is that it kinda sucks how most rants on Yuno are cut short :( The thing is, she’s been very honest about her crime, and most people have considered her issue in a context outside of Milgram so they already have a pretty good idea on where their vote stands. Despite being the “obvious” innocent one, she really is the most emotionally charged character imo. It’s easy to relate to the other characters and feel knee-jerk reaction, but none have been so widely discussed as abortion and sex work. I can talk openly about everyone else and get into a nice discussion on morals and emotions, but Yuno is the one character I have to talk very, very carefully around. Whether I’m rambling about Milgram to my family or interacting with new fans, I never know what’s acceptable to say without falling into a whole debate on politics.
So, if it’s made me into someone who keeps quiet and skirts around things, I shudder to imagine the amount of lying/masking Yuno herself must do on a daily basis. I can easily avoid the topic if I choose to – she was dealing with that debate long before coming to Milgram, and is currently dealing with debates and judgements and insults and pity surrounding it. She’s naturally strong so I think fans often forget all the shit that this 18yo is dealing with on a daily basis, and how effortless she’s making it look <3

I think one of the main reasons why sdr2 is my fav is that the cast feels much more natural and united compared to the other groups
Like the thh cast has a very scattered feel to them, with people mostly being by themselves or in a very small group (and sometimes, the people in said groups aren't really that close). When I think of the groups in thh, the only ones that spring to mind that seem actually CLOSE is Sakura-Aoi, Mondo-Taka & Makoto-Kyoko
And V3 then has very clearly defined groups that mingle with each other and... not much outside of that. We have stuff like Tenko-Himiko-Angie, Miu-Kiibo and Shuichi-Maki-Kaito. Outside of groups, characters usually don't have very unique or meaningful dynamics or interactions
Sdr2 on the hand have very fleshed out relationships and dynamics with EVERYONE. Like, yeah of course there are still established groups like Sonia-Kazuichi-Gundham, Fuyuhiko-Peko and Akane-Nekomaru but even then those groups mesh and mingle well with the rest of the cast
In thh & V3 I find it hard to imagine unique and interesting interactions between a lot of the characters, but in sdr2 you could give me any combination of characters and I'd be able to imagine them interacting in a fun and interesting way
They're also the only class I could genuinely imagine all getting along and having fun together outside the killing game. But they're not all friends either, which makes the unison and feel of the cast more natural and fun! Hiyoko-Mikan aren't friends. Fuyuhiko-Mahiru aren't friends. But they still have meaningful and interesting dynamics with each other
Not only that, but even if you take each character seperately I genuinely like them all. Like, actively like them. Yes, even Teruteru and Hiyoko. I find each and every one of them compelling in their own way. I like Kazuichis well-meaning stupidity, I like Gundhams love of life, I like Ibukis cheery attitude, I like Mikans care for others, I like Pekos devotion. I enjoy them all
I don't have a good way to end this just. sdr2 cast my beloveds

"For Mahiru's sake"
I have seen some arguements that, yes, if Amane is able to deck Shidou, it would indeed be a skill issue and all that However "we still must vote Amane guilty in order to protect Mahiru"
Ignoring all the things like "subjecting a torture victim to further torture" and "there is no guarantee that another guilty vote would restrain Amane enough to stop her" and "It isn't a case of when or if, Fuuta is literally already implied to be in Amane's cult and he has an inno vote meaning Amane could just ask him to act on her behalf"
I want to object to this on the grounds that Mahiru herself would not approve of it.
Firstly: Why did Mahiru forgive Kotoko? I think many people saw Mahiru forgiving Kotoko and took it at a surface level "Oh such a kind heart poor Mahiru has~" Perhaps some with concern "If she's willing to forgive a woman that almost killed her what else is she willing to put up with?!" I too have shared these concerns for her But I think there is an oft overlooked explanation, one deeper to Mahiru's true nature
Tumblr media
"An ideal she can't concede on" It's no secret Kotoko views herself as a vessel for justice, dehumanising herself into a mere tool, Es' "Fang" And to Kotoko, justice can only be delivered in the most visceral, corporal satisfying way So it is completely understandable, that upon being told Mikoto, Mahiru, Fuuta and Amane had commited injustices. Kotoko's only reaction could've been a violent beatdown (until she got stopped by Kazui at least) Why would Mahiru care about that? Because, dear reader, Mahiru too has a belief she cannot concede on
Tumblr media
Both Mahiru and Shidou say they'll do anything for love and its likely that conviction that lead them both to MILGRAM Shidou would take the hearts of a million paitents if his wife's would beat again. Mahiru, even after two trials... honestly doesn't have much to say about her boyfriend... But everything she did, she did for love and thus she has no regrets
Tumblr media
Mahiru even directly draws a link between herself and Kotoko here.
So why can't Mahiru deny Kotoko's ideals? Because she'd be denying a piece of herself too
And if we're going off Mahiru's logic, she wouldn't want us to permit her ideals whilst denying Amane's
Ok, but, who cares what Mahiru wants, right? Useless weaklings should just shut up and let us protect them! Especially given how fragile Mahiru must be... A concern I've seen a lot is that even if Mahiru isn't the target, if Shidou becomes incapacitated, she'll potentially die too A lot of people voted Mahiru innocent on the basis that another guilty could be fatal to her. Now Mahiru does seem pretty badly injured, and while we don't know the basis of the care Shidou and Yuno are providing, it must be severe to require two round-the-clock carers
Despite this, while Mahiru certainly isn't comfortable, it does seem like physically she is mostly stable. Even without Shidou, Yuno has recently spoken about how out of normality, she can't let someone in front of her die. So she'd probably continue to help keep Mahiru clean and fed even if she can't help with more complicated things (and we know Yuno isn't at risk because Amane talked to her without giving her a big threat about breaking taboo) This is also total speculation on my part, but I have a feeling by the time trial 3 rolls around, Mahiru will still be in her wheelchair heavily injured, but she will have recovered some more of her strength. Wheelchairs can move faster than I can run to begin with (Source: Guy I used to share a class with always beat me in foot/wheel races) but in addition Mahiru could already (with great difficulty and probably with risk of exaccerbating her injury) walk/run to some degree before getting her chair I mean this not to discount her, but to say that she is not entirely without defence/method of evasion should Amane attack Even more speculation-y: After Kazui missed Kotoko's attack last time, I would hope that the prisoners have some sort of Kazui-alert system to ensure he wouldn't be so late to a surprise attack again that could be used if Amane comes after them too
Whilst Jackalope states it was Shidou's treatments that saved Mahiru directly after Kotoko's attacks When it came to Shidou telling Es about the threat to Mahiru's life, the topic was her mental health
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mahiru's innocent verdict will affirm her ideas about love and probably give her some more willpower
Will it be enough to protect her if Amane attacks her? I don't know!
But the sad truth is we are already aboard the pain train. We are trying to play 4D chess with a pigeon determined to knock our favourite pieces off the board. There's a lot of factors we can't account for, Kotoko for example, if voted guilty may not attack anyone or maybe she'll attack Haruka and Muu (or any other guilties) because she still sees them as injustice or maybe she'll attack the innocents because she can no longer trust our judgement of who committed injustice. We can't even confidently say what a T2 guilty looks like yet, so far two prisoners are voted guilty. Haruka is a seemingly bedridden hikikomori meanwhile Muu seems completely unaffected. We have no idea what'll happen with them until it does and how it'll affect the rest of this mess.
The only thing we have power over is a single, overly binary choice: To forgive or not forgive
And personally, I don't think Shidou or Mahiru is worth the continued punishment of a 12 year old. (idk why you're voting though so no offense if you think differnetly but I hope this was a good perspective)

I've been burning with this question since Amane's voting. And then Kotoko said she would have attacked Amane, bringing the realization that it really could have happened if things were a bit different.
And then I wrote things being a bit different
When I say "injured", I do mean on the level of Fuuta and Mahiru. You could argue that one is worse than the other, but either would be terrible for Amane.

hHhhhh it's "Jasper makes Milgram theories while horribly sleep-deprived" time
Alright. So. If you remember, Es makes a comment at some point (I don't remember where, probably in a VD) about how Haruka should have been 006 or 007. This means that the prisoners' order is significant in some way.
So, thus was born this theory that I kind of just thought of off the top of my head - what if the prisoners' number reflects how much control they had over the things that led them to commit the crimes they did?
Rambling starts under the cut
So, what are the prisoner's crimes? (A reflection)
Haruka - Strangling a girl to death
Yuno - Multiple Abortions
Fuuta - Starting a hate campaign against a girl that led to her committing suicide
Muu - Stabbing someone to death after mentally breaking from being bullied horribly
Shidou - Harvesting the organs of patients in order to try and save his wife
Mahiru - Causing her boyfriend to commit suicide due to her overbearing way of "loving"
Kazui - Causing his wife to commit suicide due to him keeping a secret (likely that he is a godamn homosexual) for the entirety of their marriage, which did lead to the downfall of the life they had.
Amane - Beating someone (likely her mother- "My mother should have kept her faith until the very end") to death, likely due to her victim leaving the cult or at least trying to (hence the quote.)
Mikoto (John) - Beating multiple people to death in order to protect Mikoto
Kotoko - Hunting down and killing people who were preying on the unsuspecting ("I can't stand the evil hurting the weak") in her pursuit of justice
With that out of the way... it's analysis time boys.
Haruka was clearly extremely mentally ill and was jealous of the girl we saw in weakness, which was reinforced by his mother not loving him due to his learning disability and seemingly preferring that girl over him. If Haruka had been given proper love and support throughout his childhood, I think it's fairly obvious that he would not have done the things he did. He may have had a tiny bit of control over things, but again, if he had been cared for and his mental disability had been acknowledged rather than one of the things that led to someone he held in high esteem (his mother) hating him, he would not have done what he did.
Yuno's "crime" is obviously abortions, she pretty much confirms it. And if you all have the slightest bit of knowledge on how babies are made, you'll know that the woman's egg is not the baby, the man's sperm cell is - therefore, her "crime" wasn't something that was in her control, as she obviously never chose to get pregnant or really wanted to. She chose to get the abortions, sure, but the actions that caused her to get them was of no fault of her own.
Fuuta's crime was pretty indirect itself, and he clearly didn't mean for it to happen. He only started the ball rolling that led to his victim committing suicide. So while he did have some level of control over it (Literally doxxing the victim and starting everything) he had no real say in how things spiralled.
Muu's crime wasn't really intended either, let's be honest - she was clearly on the verge of snapping as it was, and the one person that didn't immediately turn to bullying her after her whole thing was exposed turning away from her pushed her over the metaphorical edge. Though let's be honest here - she did kind of have some level of control over the things that led to her committing said murder, what with her whole "Queen Bee" thing.
Shidou’s crime was clearly influenced by his grief and all the mental fuckwittery that comes along with that (seriously, grief is no joke,) and he was not in a good headspace, convinced that he might be able to save the only remaining family he had by taking the organs of others. Yes, he did have control over his actions, but again, his mental state clearly influenced the actions he took.
Mahiru didn't even know the harm she was doing in her relationship because of just how unstable she was, and so blinded by love that she didn't even realise how toxic things were until it was far too late. Yes, she did have control over how the relationship was, but again, her mental state clearly influenced how things turned out. And nobody really has any "control" over a suicide, so.
Kazui let the lies and fear take over his life to the point where he played with someone's feelings, making her believe that he genuinely loved her the way she loved him. Hell, they even got married even though Kazui was lying through his teeth the whole time. So yeah, he had a pretty decent amount of control over the things that led to his wife committing suicide. Do I really think he intended for it to happen? Of course not - again nobody really has any "control" over a suicide. But once more, he pretty much just led his wife on for years (yes, he cared for her platonically, but not in the way she believed he did) and she genuinely did love him.
Amane did things mostly of her own accord, though it's fairly obvious that the cult had influence over her actions, her eyes after she committed her crime shows this. But what I also want to point out is that it, most likely, was her own decision to kill her mother. She saw her trying to leave the cult (assuming that theory is correct, ofc) and decided to beat her to death. She had control over what she did.
Mikoto is a difficult one, judging as his murders were done by John, and John obviously did them to protect Mikoto. But John definitely did have control over the whole, yk, murdering thing. He chose who to kill, he chose to kill them, that kind of thing.
Kotoko had, let's be honest, the most amount of control over her actions. She did them because she wanted to, not because anybody influenced her to do them. She wanted to protect people, so she killed the people who were hurting them. One of the lines in HARROW is literally "I want to gouge you out with my fangs." The key word here is Want. It was something she did because she firmly believed she was right to do so. She had complete control.
I probably drifted away from my original point more than once while writing this rambling theory, but I'm sleep-deprived and on a bus. So.

So instead of Germaine having to take the form of a "stranger" like I thought before, he really takes a physical form based on the person that sees him. How they feel about him.
I wonder exactly how he looks to Tsubaki's eyes when he shows up. I wonder what "mentor" or "savior" or whatever Tsubaki thinks of him gets shown as.
...And I'm sure that Mahiru has seen through him a little bit thanks to Kuro's memories. The way he cried digging up Adam from his early grave. I wonder what he'll look like to him? Something completely different and perhaps more accurate to Germaine himself. "A grieving man", may be how Mahiru sees him, how he understands him as.
Also, on another note that I'd been meaning to write before... Will anybody really be able to remember the ritual when all is said and done?
There have been two points that make me believe that the only proper documentation of the rituals that have been done by him are written by the Count himself, stored in C3's archives under heavy protection. The only reason others know more than eight rituals have been done. As we've seen in an earlier chapter, Lawless witnessed Ildio's ritual. He was there and watched it all go down but a bit earlier than that there was a panel in which the question of "How did he do it" was brought up to Lawless, in which his response was more or less "I don't know and I don't care, leave me alone."
I believe that the ritual can only be remembered by the caster and the victim.
And yes, I know the victim is usually dead for this but I have a reason for saying that:
Simply, Touma and Tsurugi.
Touma has tried to recreate Germaine's rituals to turn Tsurugi into a Servamp he could control. He failed. Tsurugi woke up surrounded by the bodies of those he killed, people who were also helping in the experiment and Touma has said that "Even those who were watching from a distence, their memories were unnaturally erased." Only Tsurugi and Touma remember the ritual being done at all, everyone who knows about it after having to learn through the reports.
It makes me wonder just how many rituals Germaine has done. How many people have seen him in different, personalized forms, how many bodies he's failed to resurect and how many in-canon historical disasters covered up by his memory-altering spell were really him.
I'm extremely excited to see him again. (And somewhat more excited to see Lily cut him away from the vessel he ends up choosing. I do not think it will be Tsurugi though.)

Hi Beans, I’m finally here. Diluting the sad with fun and very OOC.
I don’t really have a lot of ideas about what to write, but I remembered that I shared my idea of Es with the chivalrous Argenti's personality. So. AU in a vacuum (maybe an actors AU, maybe not), where Es thought that it would be funny to surprise the prisoners with the behavior of a knight(maybe Jackalope came up with that idea, maybe just strange sense of humor). What about the prisoners' reactions? (gallantry and compliments to plants attached) I think Mahiru would have joined the drive even if she didn’t really understand what happened. Fuuta would probably say "ugh, cringe" and that would make him a great target for the rest of the day.
YESS ahahaha, this is such a fun idea! I wrote a little scene with a few characters, but honestly it's hysterical picturing any of them trying to figure out how to react to this new and sparkling Es... I went for a version where not even Jackalope was prepared, but I can certainly see him suggesting something crazy like that to shake things up omg. Thank you so much for the request! The original meme was made by Mug, and I couldn't help but do a doodle myself ✨🌹

Amane was the first to witness it. She fled as soon as possible, finding sanctuary in the common room. The others were surprised as she stumbled in, face pale and eyes wide. Very little could frighten the girl; it was not a good sign.
Yuno moved to comfort her. “What’s wrong?”
Her eyes went distant with the harrowing memory. “It’s Es,” was all she said.
“Did they do something cruel?”
“No. Worse.” Amane shivered. “They were… nice.”
“They were what?”
Amane opened her mouth, but paused at the sound of heels clicking down the hallway.
She stiffened. “If you need me you can find me in my cell.” She disappeared as quickly as she came. The others, who had been listening in on the odd conversation, gaped after her. They tried to piece together what had been so unsettling. Still, Es’ boots approached.
All eyes landed on the doorway.
And Es appeared. They looked very normal. Jackalope hopped up behind them. All shoulders sagged in relief. Es surveyed the room, slightly surprised to find everyone staring.
Then, they smiled.
It was a genuine, bright smile. The blue-gray of their eyes sparkled with a new light. Their lips parted to release a lighthearted laugh, unlike anything the prisoners had heard from them before.
They glided through the room, heels clicking lightly behind them until they came to Muu. The others stood frozen in place.
Es swept their cape aside with a grand flourish of their arm. They held both her hand and her gaze with warmth.
“Why, hello, Muu! You’re looking as positively lovely as always. Has this fine morning treated you well?”
“Um…” She looked to everyone, her face pleading for a little guidance. They were too busy looking eagerly to her in astonishment. “Uh… yes?”
“I’m pleased to hear it.” They reached behind themself. The room let out a soft gasp as they produced a pale pink flower from underneath their cape.
“For you, my dear.”
They didn’t wait for her to finish stuttering a confused ‘thank you’ before they turned to whoever was standing closest. Mahiru’s own face lit up as Es turned their glimmering gaze her way. Fuuta scoffed, muttering something about this being the lamest, cringiest thing he’d witnessed. Es pretended not to hear.
“Shiina Mahiru… a smile like yours is rare to find in a place like this. I thank you for it.” They pinched their chin and angled their head, thinking. “The meaning of your name has to do with light, correct?”
She nodded, unable to keep the giddiness from her face. The others watched as Es moved their glove behind once more. Surely there was no room for any more flowers hidden there…
Surely they were all mistaken – Es flicked their wrist to present a small gathering of yellow blooms.
“Something radiant for someone as bright as you.”
She fell over herself with gratitude and giggles. She tried to tuck it into her hair, and Mikoto stepped over to help her. The pair raised their eyebrows at each other in disbelief.
This time, Es retrieved their gift before turning to their next victim. A classic red rose. They caught a prisoner’s gaze.
“Oh, no. Nope. No way.” Fuuta held up his hands, as if it could ward them off. “I don’t want your stupid-ass flowers.”
“Now, now, I see you’re playing hard to get, as usual.” They brushed their thumb along the thorny stem. “You know, the rose has a very similar approach.”
Fuuta’s face now matched the flower’s color. Wha–” He stumbled backward, then took off running to the door. “I don’t know what weird mind games you’re trying to pull, but I’m staying out of it!”
Es only clicked their tongue gently when he disappeared. “Always making things difficult, that one. All part of his charm, I suppose.”
They followed to the entrance. Turning briefly, they flashed their smile once more.“It was wonderful to see you all! I will await our next meeting eagerly.”
With a fluttery wave, they vanished.
Everyone’s attention shot to Jackalope, who had paused in the doorway. No one could understand his voice, but his little rabbit face seemed to say, Hey, don't look at me. I have no fucking idea.
