Grian's alliance with Cleo and Etho is so interesting to me. Because it's so different from every other alliance he's made.
The first alliance made in the Life Series for Grian is the Blue Sword Boys. And it's simply for a diamond sword. This sets an expectation that Grian needs to be useful for an alliance to be worth it.
His alliance to Scar, his desert friend, is built on him selling his life to Scar. An entire life, one of three deaths he gets before never being able to walk the world again. He gives it all to Scar. Because lives are valuable, useful. Servants are useful.
In Last Life, the Southlands are brought together through resources. You go red, there are no gifted lives bringing you back from the brink like in other alliances. You just go. Grian is forced out of the Southlands first, the home he built no longer his. Because by dying, he has proven he isn't useful.
His alliance with Joel is built on the fact that they are both red. That they need one another to survive. That reds live and die alone. They are loyal, because loyalty is useful. And their alliance ends when they stop being red. And it resumes once they are again.
In Double Life, Grian doesn't want to pair with Scar. He quite literally lets out a guttural scream of no. But it's easier to stick around his soulmate. Build Scar a base, babysit him. It's far more useful.
After a certain point, Grian stops viewing alliances as someone loyal. Someone who has your back. Simply, that it is necessary to have friends.
It's useful to have allies, so he jumps at the first opportunity. In Limited Life, he joins Joel and Jimmy because they invite him. He changes his skin, something he has never done before. He engages with bread bridge, he changes things about himself to look useful.
And then in the final sessions, when he loses Jimmy and Joel, he moves along quickly. He even says that Joel is a 'lost cause' and teams up with Pearl and BigB instead.
His wording is so specific too. Not allies, not teammates...friends. This is how he views friendship. A mutual exchange of usefulness.
It's why he's so desperate to make friends in Secret Life. He begs and pleads with people, when he is forced together with Joel he sticks with him like a clingy child, he builds the egg not because he likes it, but because a pretty base can attract friends.
When he asks if he can join Etho and Cleo. They just say yes. No second thoughts. And Grian is still trying to sell himself, prove why they should want him around. And Cleo just has on screen text (aka, inner thoughts) questioning why Grian is still trying to convince them? They've already said yes!
He's so stuck in the mindset of seeming useful, that he's now doing it even when no one is looking for him to be useful.
This is what sets his alliance with them apart from anyone else. He does not have to stick around, or cling to them. He can disappear for most of the session, and be fine.
Cleo and Etho help him out and he helps them in return. Not because he needs to be useful. But because he wants to. Because he has finally found people who just want him around because it's him.
It's such a large shift in his previous alliances, that I can't help but appreciate every little interaction. Because Cleo and Etho are his friends first. Not just allies.

i was thinking about that post a little more re: sampo being a part of the masked fools or even the stellaron hunters so i'm trying to keep my eyes peeled for some evidence for both sides
For the Stellaron Hunters, the only things I can really come up with is the Stellaron Hunter Logs in the Data Bank, with the name "Sam..." written down but trailing off
Tumblr media
as well as trying to find some connection with the name "Epsilon" during his scene at the end of the Belobog arc, with Epsilon being the fifth letter of the Greek alphabet and there being 5 people known in the Stellaron Hunters: Blade, Silver Wolf, Sam (?), Kafka, and Elio.
Tumblr media
As for the Masked Fools, using the same screenshot as above, the quote "True happiness always entails the manifestaton of the dignity of mankind" highlights the drive/motivations of Aha the Elation, with happiness being the true meaning of existence for humanity. The Masked Fools take this an extra step to seek out happiness by stirring trouble wherever they can.
There's also this tavern he mentions on his farewell to the unknown person
Tumblr media
In the Simulated Universe, a tavern is also mentioned known as Tavern World's End, belonging to the Masked Fools.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personally, I feel like there's a lot more argument for Sampo being a part of the Masked Fools here, but not against him being a Stellaron Hunter just yet. Just need more proof is all

Feel like it’s worth mentioning I now have two blogs. This one is primarily going to remain my analysis/longform thoughts on games. The other one is going to be mostly reblogs, and unorganized thoughts. That way I can share and do everything I want to, while letting you guys chose which you care about.
That’s all.

Hooo boy. I dunno if it was a horny thought in the middle of the night, or a horny dream, but either way, I had this idea last night and now I am making it a horny reality.
As I think about it typing it out, it was almost certainly a dream, given it involved my OCs involved with spoilers from a game. (Not saying which one, because without mentioning it, the scenario's generic enough...)
SO ANYWAY
My vampire OC and his girlfriend were in an ideal world, where none of the bad things that happened to them actually happened. So, he's human, she's still a nurse. They aren't vampire hunters, they aren't traumatized... And she (and I) noticed, he's notably chubbier than he is by default. His face is rounder, his limbs are softer, he's wearing larger clothes, the whole nine yards.
And, naturally, Berry asks him about it. Y'know, is your ideal self on the softer side like that? And he openly answers yes!
"In fact, when I was turned, I was kind of in the process of gaining some of that weight back after being sick for a while... Kind of annoying that it happened when I was in that in-between."
(Yeah, in hindsight, absolutely a dream. Yuto's generally not that open about his own desires... But now it's reality, and nobody can stop me!)

i mean how would you distinguish the difference between being generally tender/intimate in let's say, a fling that's more red in nature with someone who's maybe shyer/more inexperienced, and actual romantic inclination? does it depend on if you do it yourself, or them?
Tumblr media
"I... would not know. I follow my heart and instincts with these things but do not always understand why I am feeling or doing certain things."
"I would act however felt natural with the person I am being intimate with, and hope that if I am giving a kind of signal, I will be told."

"Does anything matter to you? Like what do hold close to yourself? Just yourself? Just your life?" "Is the idea that pirates don't hold themselves accountable to any sort of structure...news to you?"
This moment. This moment is messing me up. And I think it's such a perfect window into P!Acho and P!Owen as characters.
Owen is, at a core level, someone who does not build things. Owen has spent her whole life on the run. Always fleeing problems. Taking things he wants and leaving them when they get boring.
Sure, Owen mentions structure. But that doesn't mean rules specifically. It's expectation, it's any kind of social normalcy. Owen became a pirate because it is freedom from rules and structure put in place. But there's still structure, a way you're meant to be a pirate. You're supposed to find something that drives you and find a crew to trust.
Owen has none of that.
In fact, she spends a large amount of time complaining about the Herons faction. How traditional and rules based they are. He literally gets attacked by Eret, and still complains about the rules of the faction isles.
It's why he gravitates towards Acho. Because she is an outsider among outsiders. Someone who doesn't care for the faction system, someone who has left behind responsibility and expectation like she did.
Owen loves being a pirate, because no one can tell him how to act.
Meanwhile, Acho is someone who is constantly creating things. Connections, rare items, important structures and even a large bank account. Acho is always, in some form or another, creating.
Which is why Acho feels so strongly about staying and fighting. A part of star has always lived in the isles. The Nightingales has become their home, they've made friends. He's reconnected with their brother. Being a pirate has given them a chance to explore, to find, to enjoy life.
They've built things here, and they cannot lose that.
Acho talks about not being a true Nightingale. But when he and Will are the first ships there during the rescue mission, Acho tells Will he will go in with or without the other pirates, because he needs to save their friends. He comforts Graecie, he ensures Scott is safe, he wants to keep Apo around in the faction isles.
Because they always want to build things. And their connections are their most important construction.
It's why they are so angry at Owen leaving. They've built a connection with Owen. She was someone to talk to, he was someone star could be honest with. They had a connection and Owen decided that didn't matter. That none of it mattered.
Owen left, because she was never making a home of the isles. It was just a stop off point. Acho was just another person among the many Owen had charmed.
Acho stayed, because star made the isles into a home. And Owen was not dime a dozen.

currently Tango’s Cough is winning the most deadly ravager poll, and also likely winning in kills based off of what I’ve noted down so far. I’m thinking about making some other decked out polls, for entertainment.
