In case you missed it, I'm gonna be super inactive for the next couple days for depression reasons 😝 in the spirit of not completely wrecking my series schedule, I'm gonna give a blurb from the next When you escape him, the next for tuna, and a blurb from a secret third thing that you'll have to wait and see about 😘
When You Escape him Spoiler
Ever since you watched him smash the mirror with his bare hands, an unhinged smile on his face, you'd been terrified of Epel. He'd snickered as he licked the blood on his fist, musing, “Now you have no choice but to stay with me.”
For Tuna Spoiler
“Wonderful,” Grim said through gritted teeth. “So what we'll do is, tomorrow-”
“You're adorable, Monsieur Fuzzball. No need for that though!”
“Huh?”
“I don't need you. Au revoir!”
Secret Third Thing Spoiler
"Once again, I would like to request you give up, and become my nocturnal lover."
You grimaced. Malleus truly didn't understand no matter how many times you explained it to him. All you could do was try to give him gentle reminders.
"My friends aren't nocturnal though. And I love them too."
"But I love you more."
"Either way, a trip would still do me good, right?" He looked about to interrupt, but you pressed a finger to his lips, "Plus, I bet there are some ruins up in those mountains, and once I find where they are, we can go visit them together."

Tell me about the AU's (pwease? 🥺)
So, Body/Life - the Au based on the Body for Body, Life for Life one-shot from 2021 - very much speaks for itself. Ryou Bakura is a young man who gave use of his body to a demon in exchange for his sisters life, falls in love (or trauma-bonds) with said demon and proposes. and the Demon, Bakura, says yes and we follow them throughout married life and it's various issues such as 'when will my husband devour my body', 'what is a present?', 'how do I cope with what I've done to get this far' and 'does he really love me'. All of which Ryou has answers to ('Someday', 'my husbands presence' 'cope with what?' and 'I've decided that he does'), and we're here to see if they're correct. I talked about some lore-stuff in another ask, so I'll cut this one short here.
Hypno-thruple is some I WANT to write REAL BAD but I struggle with smut, but it's FUN to spitball with @shameandhypnosis about. Essentially, Bakura (with his own body) convinces Atem (with his own body) to join him and husband Ryou for a hypno-session where the challenge is to not go under himself while Ryou hypnotizes Bakura. It's a roundabout way to get Atem some sleep and the tools to self-hypnotize himself to sleep easier (and tools for Yuugi tp help him sleep easier), while also allowing Bakura time with his crush (open relationship, toying with Ryou also dating Yuugi, and so would Atem, but the focus is on these three). After a while, Atem does realize they get... horny? After he leaves? Or when they think he's still asleep? And act on it?
Atem gets kind of into - very. Very into it. Very quickly gets into this and trusting Ryou and watching Bakura drop is now a trigger for /him/ to drop, and bringing this up to Ryou brings up the idea of hypnokink which eventually culminates with Atem becoming a very good hypno-submissive for the two of them, mostly Ryou, but he learned it from the other one who only realized too late that while Ryou was hypnotized, he was also studying the blade and has gotten better at it than Bakura.
Like, I have whole scenes for this in my head. I have inductions. I have /drama/. I deserve to write it. I deserve to.
Hanahaki fic is gunna be - exactly what it sounds like. Ryou's suffering from Hakahaki disease, but doesn't have it. Bakura does. It's a tendershipping fic and only Bakura knows this and it has made him pretty fucking cynical about the whole thing, to the point of ignoring it so bad than he canNOT control the body anymore, or horror happens. Which means it's up to Ryou to cure him, somehow, and it sucks for everyone involved.
I like the idea of Bakura being a hopeless romantic, potentially a straight-up fatal tsundere, every fucking time Ryou even /thinks/ something nice about him, he flares up and he is so fucking mortified about it. Even if eh thought he had a chance, petals shooting out of his throat when Ryou says he made him happy is so Not Murderous Spirit of The Ring Who Is A Villain And A Threat of him. I find it, canon be damned, funny. I find it funny and also terrible considering the very real mortal peril they are both in because of this behavior and because Bakura has effectively black-pilled himself. And that black-pilling leads to his condition rapidly morphing into something wholly worse and with less time on his side - bolting. I have a potential bonus chapter waiting in the wings for when I finish this, here's an excerpt from it talking about bolting, while Bakura is in the hospital because he was choking.
Yaaayyyy.

Also, props to Allan???
He's a doll most people have never heard of. He got discontinued forever ago cause he was perceived as gay by consumers and they didn't like that.
But I love that he had an actual role in Barbie. He was very queer coded, yeah, but he didn't like when all the Kens turned to Patriarchy. He was so uncomfortable that he wanted to abandon Barbieland all together. He knew it was wrong.
And then he helped the Barbies get themselves back. He had a pink jumpsuit and sunglasses and went out all stealthy to get the Barbies in the van. He even voted at the end to keep the constitution the way it was.
Big Allan fan over here.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Kabru deprives himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kabru as a character is intertwined with the idea that sometimes we have to sacrifice the needs of the few for the good of the many. He ultimately subverts this first by sabotaging the Canaries and then by letting Laios go, but in practice he's already been living a life of self-sacrifice.
Saving people, and learning the secrets of the dungeons to seal them, are what's important. Not his own comforts. Not his own desires. He forces them down until he doesn't know they're there, until one of them has to come spilling out during the confession in chapter 76.
Specifically, I think it's very significant, in a story about food and all that it entails, that Kabru is rarely shown eating. He's the deuteragonist of Dungeon Meshi, the cooking manga, but while meals are the anchoring points of Laios's journey, given loving focus, for Kabru, they're ... not.
Tumblr media
I'm sure he eats during dungeon expeditions, in the routine way that adventurers must when they sit down to camp. But on the surface, you get the idea that Kabru spends most of his time doing his self-assigned dungeon-related tasks: meeting with people, studying them, putting together that evidence board, researching the dungeon, god knows what else. Feeding himself is secondary.
He's introduced during a meal, eating at a restaurant, just to set up the contrast between his party and Laios's. And it's the last normal meal we see him eating until the communal ending feast (if you consider Falin's dragon parts normal).
First, we get this:
Tumblr media
Kabru's response here is such a non-answer, it strongly implies to me that he wasn't thinking about it until Rin brought it up. That he might not even be feeling the hunger signals that he logically knew he should.
They sit down to eat, but Kabru is never drawn reaching for food or eating it like the rest of his party. He only drinks.
Tumblr media
It's possible this means nothing, that we can just assume he's putting food in his mouth off-panel, but again, this entire manga is about food. Cooking it, eating it, appreciating it, taking pleasure in it, grounding yourself in the necessary routine of it and affirming your right to live by consuming it. It's given such a huge focus.
We don't see him eat again until the harpy egg.
Tumblr media
What a significant question for the protagonist to ask his foil in this story about eating! Aren't you hungry? Aren't you, Kabru?
Tumblr media
He was revived only minutes ago after a violent encounter. And then he chokes down food that causes him further harm by triggering him, all because he's so determined to stay in Laios's good graces.
In his flashback, we see Milsiril trying to spoon-feed young Kabru cake that we know he doesn't like. He doesn't want to eat: he wants to be training.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then with Mithrun, we see him eating the least-monstery monster food he can get his hands on, for the sake of survival- walking mushroom, barometz, an egg. The barometz is his first chance to make something like an a real meal, and he actually seems excited about it because he wants to replicate a lamb dish his mother used to make him!
Tumblr media
...but he doesn't get to enjoy it like he wanted to.
Tumblr media
Then, when all the Canaries are eating field rations ... Kabru still isn't shown eating. He's only shown giving food to Mithrun.
Tumblr media
And of course the next time he eats is the bavarois, which for his sake is at least plant based ... but he still has to use a coping mechanism to get through it.
Tumblr media
I don't think Kabru does this all on purpose. I think Kui does this all on purpose. Kabru's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder should be understood as informing his character just as much as Laios's autism informs his. It's another way that Kabru and Laios act as foils: where Laios takes pleasure in meals and approaches food with the excitement of discovery, Kabru's experiences with eating are tainted by his trauma. Laios indulges; Kabru denies himself. Laios is shown enjoying food, Kabru is shown struggling with it.
And I can very easily imagine a reason why Kabru might have a subconscious aversion towards eating.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meals are the privilege of the living.

thinking about how the hunger games were designed to prove that without society, order, government, someone to rule, we devolve into little more than animals, and how the games themselves prove over and over again that this is not true. We see it in every single game we witness.
Katniss placing flowers around Rue's body in the arena. Thresh sparing Katniss because she was kind to Rue, even though he was making it that much harder for himself to win.
Haymitch going back for Maysilee after hearing her scream even though their alliance had been broken. Haymitch holding her as she dies the same way Katniss did Rue.
Coral's "I can't have killed them all for nothing" when she realizes she's not going home. Lamina cutting down Marcus at great personal risk. And, my favorite moment in tbosas, Reaper collecting the bodies of his fellow tributes, his peers, even the ones who tried to kill him, into a pile. Taking the weapons from their hands. Closing their eyes and crossing their arms in the best approximation of a proper burial he can manage, covering them with the Capitol flag as a makeshift shroud.
The Games bring out the worst in people, yes. But despite the extreme circumstances, despite the exterior pressure of the Capitol, despite the fact that it could mean pain and heartbreak and death, it also shows that people have an enormous capacity for goodness. That even in a situation purposefully designed to make empathy impossible, people can't help but have it anyway.
Snow looks at the Games and all he can see is what's inside himself-- this pure animalistic drive to conquer and defeat. He kills and it feels good and he thinks that everyone else must feel that way too. He doesn't realize (maybe can't realize) that he is the exception, not the rule. He cannot see outside himself, outside his own warped perspective, to realize that the fact that people do show humanity in the games proves his entire worldview wrong.

Headcanon where after so many arguments between the batkids and Bruce over his paranoia and complete disregard for his kids privacy, the entire family had compromised with (in the healthiest way possible) downloading life360 on their phones and that's how they all keep track of each other.
Now Bruce knew that this is mostly for his benefit and is supposed to be a healthy alternative for his unhealthy paranoia and helicopter parenting, but what he wasn't expecting was for his kids to start keeping track of him.
He's putting gas in his car and Dick calls him because apparently Dick has been watching him drive around on the app? And Bruce is currently at a gas station thats right around the corner from a Taco Bell and now Dick wants him to get food for everyone since he's already there.
He's driving home from a meeting and Steph calls him because her and Duke were shopping in the area and wants to know if he can pick them up, when he asks how she knew he was on the same street, he gets a "Oh I just like to stalk everyone on the app for funsies." as an answer.
Jason calls him and he can barely get out a hello before Jason cuts him off, "Bruce why the fuck is your phone battery on 5%, charge your damn phone" which completely stuns him because why does he know that. He clears his throat before answering. "Jason, what?"
"Everyone can see each others phone batteries on '360, now charge your phone." Is all he gets before Jason hangs up on him.

When Senshi was young in the dungeon the majority of the adults he were with ostracized him. All except Gillin, who died to make sure Senshi had something to eat: unseasoned boiled meat that may or may not have been one of their comrades.
It really puts into perspective why he was so nurturing towards Chilchuck. When Chil reveals he’s 28 to the party, Senshi responds by telling him that he thought he was older. Senshi was in his 30s when he and his comrades got trapped in the dungeon, so it’s safe to assume that he thought Chil was at a similar age.
He met a young boy who was, from his perspective, forced to do dangerous work in the dungeon just like he was, and so, Senshi made an effort to look after Chilchuck in the same way Gillin looked after him.
Mind you, when Senshi was young in the dungeon he had to starve for weeks, eat the horse he loved, and finish it off spending the next i don’t know how many years wondering if he committed cannibalism.
Senshi understands first hand the value of nutrition and proper eating, so when he’s with the party he makes an effort to make sure they’re all eating a full and balanced diet. Not only that, but Senshi INVOLVES them in the process of getting food to eat, always preparing it in front of them and narrating every ingredient in the process so that there’s no doubt about what they’re eating.

The products of trying to recreate what was going on outside the frame during the kiss. (for ENTIRELY SCIENTIFIC purposes)
@actual-changeling altered my whole outlook on life with this post about Aziraphale's left hand (I'd only been looking at his right hand) and I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I painted the rest of the fucking owl (and his bf).

4.2 spoilers but it's interesting how Scaramouche and Furina were both made as replacements. But while Ei saw Scara's humanity as a flaw, Focalors thought that's what made Furina perfect.
I need the two of them to interact

Lore dump one of your ygo aus on me 👀
~🦴
So I have - I've mentioned before spoilers don't fucking matter to me so I'm tagging as writing spoilers for those who don't want fic spoilers for whatever reason (mobile has no readmores. Soz)
So, one of the difficult parts - no, fuck it, the MOST difficult part of Body/Life has been determining what kind of demon Bakura is, if only because what would be symbolically cool, thematically appropriate, canon-inspired *and* established by me already are somewhat at odds with each other.
Bakura has somewhat accidentally adapted an association with water (the typhoon from Wedding Soup, the waterfall/pond in Body/Life and the lake Ryou remembers kissing to kiss Bakura, as well as reflections in general) which has a Wisdom association and obviously with reflections, a MAJOR theme of the dtory overall. And snakes align with Diabound and are associated with wisdom, but very few snake yokai exist outside of the tsuchinoko *which IS an awesome fit*.
EXCEPT neither of these are in alignment, to my knowledge so far, with anything invovling eating humans directly. This not even mentioning the ridiculous idea of Bakura and wisdom being somehow in alignment.
And the things that do eat humans don't thematically fit with how ive writte. Bakura at current.
_And_ Zorc is gunna be involved in the fics plotline, as a progenitor, and Zorc, from my internet search history on Japanese ghost stories and yokai, certainly doesn't slot in easily with Japanese yokai or demons. I have books I want to buy and study but the key words here are 'want' and 'to buy'.
So. My. Working. Process. At. Current. Is.
Bakura is a... reconstruction of different parts of different yokai and demons that Zorc has devoured and then - spit up what his stomach couldn't process. Zorc's own oddity can be attributed to that as well, being an odd amalgam of things, but I can afford to be a bit more vague on that due to Zorcs nature and age and that Bakura and Yami (Yami has a B plot in this) likely wouldn't be in the know on that either.
This also give me a LOT of space for riffing to keep Bakura from overpowered - if it's the remnants of what Zorc couldn't process, it's not all of the things that creature could do. Like, so far Bakura's got some jorogumo in there and some tsuchinoko. I can kinda fudge it and say the legs probably gave Zorc the most hell, so Bakura isn't gunna have access to other elements of a jorogumo's body. Snakes shed skin, so I can say maybe those gave Zorc an issue, so Bakura has that body, and the alcohol resistance - but not the venom.
I can keep psychological elements as nature vs nurture as well, the jorogumo relies on being very appealing and alluring (very much what Bakura has done so far) and the tsuchinoko being a proficient liar, and both of those things are good conflict and shows of growth from his marriage with Ryou.
(Yami has been a bit more difficult - he's got his own themes to go through, and I'm still refining it, but in terms of 'themes' so to speak, Bakura's is 'beastly/monstrous' and Yami's is 'structure'.. read a japanese ghost story about a house once and it made me think, yeah, Zorc would eat a house at least once.)
I need to research more, if these are aged demons at all, I need to know as much as I can, but this is also a solid safety net for me if I can't find anything more solid.

I love Oda but man is INSANE for not making the timeskip more relevant to the straw hats outside of power ups
Brook: Literally a rockstar??? There should have been a running gag where people ask Brook for his autograph at every island they visit! It would be so funny if some villains were starstruck fans trying to keep it together during a fight!
Sanji: It would have been great if the newkama recipes came up more than once. There could have been a gag where Sanji stops in the middle of a battle to literally cook a power up for the crew. Imagine this man dicing onions in Onigashima, force-feeding Zoro a stew during his fight with King
Robin: She worked under Dragon for two years, met Sabo and Koala and maybe Ivankov, she probably knows the Army's entire plan to take down the gov and yet it never comes up! Does she know about Kuma? Nika? The five elders? Does she secretly communicate with the Rev Army????
Zoro: I love the idea of Perona teaching Zoro about fashion. It wouldn't have plot relevance but imagine him busting out some fashion tips out of nowhere every so often.
I'd love to hear more ideas, the missed opportunities here haunt me.
Edit: link to ongoing collection of headcanons since some people only see the first four ideas

it was played as a joke but
there's something genuinely harrowing about gorgug and kristen on the deck of the ship, pelted by rain, swarmed by dragons, these two teenagers looking at each other with wide eyes trying to bury the fear down deep, and
do you remember when we died?
they were freshmen, they were children, they were two years younger but it feels like a hundred hundred years ago
it feels like yesterday, because deep down they're still that boy hiding his too large frame behind a metal flower and a girl stuffing her too large personality into the pages of her bible
do you remember when we died?
the ship rocks violently with cannon fire, hands of fear and divinity and loss creeping from the clouds
do you remember the day you lost your faith?
do you remember a forest so sharp it cut you clean through?
do you think we ever woke up?
