the ao3 stats post I made breached containment a while ago and now it’s a 50/50 split of ‘no one’s surprised’ and ‘these are the worst survey results ever and these results are bullshit’ which. okay. criticizing research results is always fair. but then I saw these tags:
Tumblr media
and now I have a thought or two! because the whole reason I made that post is because primarily white women loooooove to act like most of the bullshit that goes down in fandom is because of white men. every time something racist pops up it’s always ‘ohhhh it’s just shitty dudebros, it’s just the fandom menace, it’s just white men, never us, never us.’ and I’ve been in these spaces long enough to know that’s a bunch of shit lmao.
I’ve been in fandom for a long time and I’m so sorry but it has not been white men that have sometimes made this space fucking miserable for me lmao. and it’s not to say that it doesn’t happen! of course white men are the problem in mainstream fandom spaces. but when it comes to niche corners on tumblr, or twitter, or ao3 - it’s mainly been y’all! and it’s not misogyny to talk about that!
it hasn’t been primarily white men that have had the audacity to say that racism needs to stay on ao3, it hasn’t been primarily white men that have harassed fandom/media scholars of color like stitch and rukmini pande for YEARS, it hasn’t been primarily white men who have been absolute pieces of shit to characters of color, especially when it comes to fucking shipping.
so yes, white women I will continue fucking shitting on y’all for being just as racist - and sometimes MORE racist!- as your male counterparts. I will continue to talk about what I’ve seen white female fans do over the years to make fandom as unwelcoming a space to people of color as they can. I will continue to call it out in the coming years, and it is NOT misogyny to do so.
so the tl;dr of it all:

As I said, look who has a billion asks today from named accounts giving sympathy about a non issue. She's making sure to keep putting all of this in the tags to use distracting white tears instead of answering for why she still wants to associate with Nalyra, who believes in reverse racism. Keybearer is also unsurprisingly in here to follow up behind her bullshit by yelling at black people too instead of answering this question himself, apparently not realizing what a total dumbass he looks for still doing all this for people who don't even like him. White fandom get fucked. Book readers why don't you show off your alleged intelligence and ask some hard hitting questions to your friends for once, or is that something you only like when Daniel does to Louis in the show because it fits your belief that all black people are liars and should be "put in their places" to quote Virginia :)

I stan nobody but if I stan anyone I stan Candice Patton and her Iris West. The absolute hailstorm of racism, misogynoir, trauma and alienation this lady and her character has been subjected to from the get-go is unreal. And yet for nine whole years she breathed beauty and warmth and genuineness into her character, even when delivering the worst lines of dialogue she was made to say that she knew would cause huge backlash (apologies for linking Screen Rant. Broken clock etc.). She co-founded "Shethority" with her friends Maisie Richardson Sellers and Caity Lotz in the wake of the Kreisberg scandal. And she always put herself on the line to speak out and hold her bosses accountable as much as possible.
All this while her character was barely allowed to kiss her co-star onscreen, let alone act with the same casual sexuality of any other married TV couple in a 7pm slot, under the guise of The Flash being a "family show". My heart broke for how utterly worn down and traumatized she was by the end, because not only did Berlanti Studios or the CW not protect or accommodate their Black artists and those of colour, they're also known for subjecting them to racist, misogynistic harrassment and severe exploitation of even their white male talent. This woman wasn't allowed a Black hairdresser or makeup artist for eight seasons, was only allowed to show her natural hair on-screen after five years, and had to watch her black co-stars being sidelined, suppressed and subjected to all manner of indignity with little space to offer solidarity or speak out (I don't care if Berlanti hired them for Love, Simon, the way his fucking studio treated Keiynan Lonsdale was a crime). Even her co-star Grant Gustin only woke up and came to her defence against the online abuse hurled her way eight years in.
Berlanti has cultivated a wholly unearned reputation as an envelope-pusher for the gay community in the entertainment industry, while playing it so safe that the gay couples in his shows are barely allowed to make out– the same way they treat interracial couples with one white partner. His buddy Kreisberg finally met his downfall after sexually harrassing the female workers in his shows for four years, but Marc Guggenheim, Wendy Mericle and Geof Johns are also known racists and misogynists. Even after Stephen Amell's breakdown, Ruby Rose going public with her physical trauma, firing Superman and Lois's Black writer Nadria Tucker, numerous attempts by Black actresses to speak on their working conditions in the CW, and the consistent bald misogyny, ableism and racism of these shows' storylines, the white queers in fandom continue to valorize Berlanti. Now with the release of Red, White and Royal Blue on Amazon Prime in August, again using a Mexican director and characters of colour to use QPoC fans as a shield and buttress, Berlanti's stock is going to be even higher.
The Flash had the potential to be a truly great show, and Candice's Iris West a real foothold for Black actresses and interracial romances in the white-dominated TV entertainment industry. Instead it was just another opportunity for it to grind them to dust. Just like so many other Black women and WoC who try to lead the charge. But through it all, Ms. Patton held the line. Y'all never deserved her. I hope she gets to heal and move onto projects that value her and allow her her full range of voice and expression, that recognizes and rewards her incredible talent and work ethic.
Fuck Berlanti, fuck the CW and fuck DCtv.

We all know that white fandom™️ is racist, but I will always find it weird how white fandom will attack some of the most unique looking white actors in favor of the most basic looking white actors. And by basic, I don't mean ugly. I mean the most *normal* good looking white guy.
Like, I will never forget the shit white fandom pulled when Jamie Campbell Bower was cast as Jace Wayland. White fandom gladly illustrated their shit taste by calling him ugly and threw tantrums that Alex Pettyfer wasn't cast. For one thing, Alex Pettyfer turned down the role. He literally didn't want to play the part. But the other thing is that the shadowhunters are supposed to seem otherworldly--because they are involved in a world that regular humans cannot see...and these people wanted the most normal looking guy to play him and were mad that a dude with unique features was cast to play him.
But also...let's not forget how the racism popped out when Godfrey Gao was cast to play Magnus and they were mad that an Asian man was cast to play *checks notes* an Asian character lmao...and they had the AUDACITY to call him ugly too.

Tumblr media

the phenom of usually white people watching real life civil/human rights issues occur in real time and immediately jumping to making them about usually two cis white male fictional characters is just crazy like can you please calm down and find a different “coping mechanism” than writing fics about it … especially when half the time you aren’t the ones who are in the most danger of the real life impact these issues are gonna have ?

the list of nasty white male characters who are absolute fan favorites just keeps growing, meanwhile a POC in a show is not perfect (... like any good three dimensional character...), people will demonize them and use it to justify them getting completely sidelined by fans and/or the show itself. no matter if they’re the main character
and if they can NOT find any flimsy excuse to demonize them, they will declare them boring unlike whatever mediocre white dude they think is hot :)

I questions pro-shipper stance about "fiction not affecting reality", mainly not about if incestuous ships or age-gap with minor and an adutl is problematic (still a oof though) but about fetishization and sexualization of certain characters since proshipper doesn't merely supported about laissez-faire for ship but also smut content. Even though the character is fiction (and ignoring the problematic implication for rl minor actor playing them), many of them, and I referring to a significant group, are BIPOC, queer like lesbian, and religion minority. I question if, even if the lesbian character you ship with a man (or appallingly, have her rape by him) is fictional, will this start changing your prospective about irl lesbian, or, while drawing Chel, even if she a fictional character, she is an Native Mexican woman, a group who have been, not just heavily sexualized by Criolllo and Angelo cultural sense and media, but suffered mass rape since the 16th century.
Another thing is about respect for circumstance of horrible events that proshipper are tend to be tone-deaf. Question if it's okay to have have a fic/art smut of your ship to be in: portraying a master/slave relationship in the Antebellum, the Confederate flag bikini that a BIPOC is wearing, or other events, symbol that proshipper don't simply insensitive too or don't care.
I talking about this because I recalled, checking that, yes a fic that encourages me to write this post, about a SS Quinn raping Rachel in a concentration camp.

"Lestat will continue to be deified, bc he will always be the main character, it's inevitable baby, Louis exists bc of him, and the more people talk bad about him the more he will gain interest, Louis' depressed ass will lose even more prominence (AMC already confirmed in more recent interviews) from season 3 onwards you will have to swallow Lestat's white dick haha"
I'm a blonde, blue-eyed, white girl and this was the dumbest shit I've read in a while.
let me tell u, a lot of my inbox is telling me to get fucked by white men along with a bunch of antiblackness.
white fandom wants everyone to think lestat is just being "cunty" in his most abusive moments because if u have to acknowledge this is a reference to slave catching then what
but ppl sure remember that detail when they're in ur inbox :) white fandom doesn't want lestat's racism explored because they also rely on this same weaponization of whiteness in the same ways. playing ignorant in public with ur white friends but happy to threaten in private isolation.

White fandom only acknowledges Black people when it's time to defend their shitty ships and smut. We been knew you never gave a fuck about us, yet please do not compare the harassment of Black authors on ao3, as well as the racism fandoms display towards Black characters and fans in these spaces, along with the lack of protections regarding such abuse to being able to freely write your now 20-chapter deep My Hero Academia/Marvel/Twisted Wonderland crossover mpreg omegaverse noncon fic like please shut the fuck up.

"Walter White would never" Walter White helped the cops catch his own criminal alter ego because they were about to blame his crimes on the wrong guy, and he couldn't stomach the thought of someone else taking credit for all the terrible things he did. That's the beauty of Walter White as a character, at least from the perspective of transformative fandom: he would. He's such a ridiculous man that literally nothing is out of character for him, provided you can contrive some circumstance where doing so would serve his ego.
