“Come here, you dweeb. Let me fix it.”
Will pouts, dragging his feet over and slumping half on top of him. Nico allows it with a smile and a roll of his eyes, pinching Will’s shoulder. He doesn’t react except for a wounded noise, muffled in Nico’s lap, so the situation is evidently quite dire.
“It’s just hair, Will.”
“But I worked on it!” He shifts around until he’s got his head in Nico’s lap, face turned towards him, body curled up on the grass around him. Nico brushes his tangled bangs off his forehead, meeting his big sad eyes. “I spent forty minutes with a stupid brush! And yet!”
“And yet,” Nico agrees, unable to appropriately school is face into one of somber understanding. Will scowls at him for his lack of proper sympathy, a little bit of genuine hurt in his eyes, so Nico leans down and kisses right between his brows in apology. He seems mollified, if only slightly, or at least he leans into Nico’s touch and stops mumbling quite so much.
“‘S’not fair.”
“Mhm.“
“Your hair listens to your instructions.”
“Yep.”
“Even Cecil’s hair listens to him, and no one listens to Cecil.”
Nico purses his lips thoughtfully. “I think Austin listens to Cecil.”
“Yes, I know. It’s an ongoing issue. I’m trying to train him out of it.”
“And how’s that going?” Nico murmurs, curling a strand of golden blond hair around his finger.
“Oh, well, I’m doing my best, so of course it’s going horribly.”
Nico snorts. He resists the urge to hold his palms to Will’s cheeks and kiss every single freckle at light speed, because he will screech something about how Nico is one-upping him in the romance department or something stupid like that. Instead he settles for looking at his dumb dramatic boyfriend’s face and marvelling over the fact that the cutest boy in the entire world, and Nico is being totally objective, hunts around camp until he finds whatever tree Nico is hiding under and curls up into a ball around him and trusts Nico to hold him while he complains about stupid things that genuinely hurt his feelings a little. It’s nice. So many people at camp are still so rigid around him, like he’s collecting information for their judgement day or something. Will prefers to exercise his lesser-known Apollonian talent of being a bigger drama queen than the god himself.
“Stay still,” Nico says softly, moving Will around so he’s laying perpendicular to Nico, now, head centered in his lap and staring up at the sky. Will sighs and squirms a little and turns his head to press a kiss to Nico’s knee, scrunching up his face and releasing it, and then settles in the position.
Humming something soft that exists on the fringes of his foggy memories, he sinks his hands into Will’s hair.
“It’s not that bad,” he promises, moving slowly and pausing whenever he comes across a knot.
Will harrumphs.
“I mean it, Marilyn Monroe. You can tone down the histrionics.”
“I used gel.”
Nico flicks a dried clump of it onto Will’s forehead, amused. “I can see that.”
“I followed every single one of Mitchell’s instructions!”
“I bet.”
“And yet!”
“And, yet.”
Nico has a sneaking suspicion that someone made a comment about Will’s hair, in the last few weeks. He can never confirm it and Will has been shifty about it every time he asks, but Nico has noticed the uptick in hoods and hats the past month and his little flinches every time Nico reaches up and tugs on it. Despite being oddly confident about the oddest things — why he is so proud of being able to fit his fist in his mouth, Nico will never know — Will is very sensitive to how people think of him. He needs to know he’s liked, and when people don’t like him, he gets…desperate, pleasing. The opposite of Nico, who becomes worse in an attempt to push them away on his own terms.
Nico leans down and presses a long, lingering kiss to his forehead.
“I like your hair, you know.”
“It’s a stupid mess.”
He smooths down a handful of it, pressing it over Will’s eye. He manages to keep a straight face for one, two, three seconds before he huffs a laugh, batting Nico’s hands away. Nico grins.
“I like the stupid mess.”
“Yeah, well, you like a lot of weird things.”
“Like you?” Nico suggests, pressing another kiss to the tip of his rounded nose.
“Shut up.”
Another strange thing about him, that Nico has to duck his head to hide his automatic smile: he gets embarrassed easily.
Nico never expected it of him, with all the dorky, medical-themed pickup lines and general shamelessness in his affection towards everybody on Earth, but especially Nico. When the poking, prodding attraction is turned on him, however, he shuts down like an overloaded Playstation. Nico can sometimes see the error messages playing behind its eyes. It’s hilarious.
“Will.” He pokes him in the cheek. “Hey.”
“What,” Will grumbles.
“I think you’re beautiful.”
Watching the slow spread of red from below the collar of his shirt to the roots of his hair is a delight. Nico watches in glee, wrestling Will’s hands away when he tries to slap them over his face.
“Shut up! Leave me alone! Go — flirt with somebody else!”
“You’d curse them to speak in rhymes for ten years,” Nico teases.
Will makes an agonised noise. “Who! Asked you! Shut up!”
“You’d sic Kayla on anyone who so much as winks at me, you jealous bitch.”
“I would not!”
“You would so. You rolled your eyes at everything Percy said for three weeks when you found out I used to crush on him —”
“I did not!”
“— and you didn’t even have the balls to ask me out, back then.”
“You are a — peddler of falsehoods! A prevaricator, a perjurer, and a fabulist!”
“And you sound like you swallowed a thesaurus,” Nico snickers. He catches the hand Will flails at him, pressing a kiss to the wrist, which only serves to fluster him more. He decides to take mercy when the kisses he trails down his arms result in one loud, long, tortured screech, pulling back and giving him some space.
Notably, he doesn’t move from Nico’s lap.
“I like it,” Nico admits, once Will has calmed down some. “I like that you’ve liked me for so long.”
Will peeks through the fingers he has covering his eyes. “It’s embarrassing.”
“Yes.” Nico squeezes his shoulders. “And endearing, which seems to be your sweet spot.” He presses a much softer kiss to the underside of Will’s ear, lingering there until he sighs, slumping under all the tension finally leaving his body. “I love you, Will. I love your clumsiness and your rambles and your nose and your freckles and your awkwardness and your jealousy and your hair and I love you, Will, all of you. Even the embarrassing weird parts.” He kisses him again. “Especially the weird parts.”
Will breathes slowly, carefully, evenly, face pressed to the inside of Nico’s thigh. His long eyelashes tickle his skin. Nico can feel the press of his Adam’s apple when he swallows, pulsing against his calf.
“I never thought you were a freak.”
Nico brushes his knuckles over his cheek. “I know.”
“I used to — talk about you. All the time. And your oxytocin levels.”
He smiles.
“I know.”
“Lee had a — chart.” Some of the flush rises back up in his cheeks. “A ‘Days Since We’ve Heard About Di Angelo’ chart.”
Nico bites his lip. Hard.
“The number never got higher than six.”
“…I am trying really, really hard, Will.”
Will sighs.
“You can laugh.”
Nico cracks up, trying desperately to muffle his giggles in his bitten fist. It doesn’t work very well, but the glare Will sends him is somewhat softened by the smile twitching at the corner of his mouth.
“Gods, you are — a mess.”
“Mhm.”
Nico cups the side of his face. Will turns, slightly, enough to press a kiss to the centre of his palm and then stay there, eyes closed, breathing against his sword-callused skin.
“I love you too, by the way. Obviously.”
“I know.”
“Don’t Han Solo me, you bastard.”
“Go ahead and try to stop me,” Nico challenges, grinning into the passionately indignant kiss Will presses to his lips, finally, letting Nico curl his hands in his hair.

Since my PJO brainrot is back in full swing I went back to check out my notes on the sun and the star and let me tell you as an Italian that book was a whole experience ( I mean it mostly in a positive way I swear )
Allow me to elaborate
Nico, my man , my bestie, my dude is actually called NICCOLO. I know this doesn't seem like much but it's such a normal regular name I was stunned speechless. Do I know someone named Percy? Or Annabeth? Or Even Bianca? No. Do I know someone named Niccolo?? YES. Don't ask me to elaborate further , this was just extremely weird
Then there was this part were Nico tells us his mother had him learn Dante.
Tumblr media
And honestly this feels like Rick looked up "Italian+author+hell" and went along with the first thing that came up. Rationally I know that he probably put a little more thought behind this but to me this felt so random. I don't know how things were in the 1930s but I'm pretty sure people didn't just read those books to literal children. Yes ,the Divine Comedy was very important in the development of the Italian language but my brother is eight years old and guess what? I'd never read him those books. We don't even know about them until middle school. Unless Maria di Angelo was a very passionate literature teacher I really don't see why she would read those books to Nico. I'm laughing so hard at the mental image of Rick going " Yes, Italians probably love this man so much that they have parts of his works memorized from an early age" like babe no we immediately forget about him one day after finishing high school.
3. Not happy, Rick then proceeded to say this about Dante's inferno , which honestly made me laugh so hard
Tumblr media
If you want to warm up your kid to the idea of Underworld you should just not use these books and not just because of Dante's non-existent survival skills. They are extremely gory, the souls there are obviously full of despair and they get tortured in the most awful and depressing ways it's very much not appropriate for a child. I'm imagining Maria tucking her sweet little son in and then opening the Inferno and going " these people were awful in life so now they rot in a swamp and eat each other for all eternity :)) Get your sleep so tomorrow we can read about those who were doomed to lay in flaming tombs and the ones that are eternally teared apart by ravenous dogs :)))"
4. Back to a sillier note we have this infamous word that killed me
Tumblr media
Listen, I have no idea who Rick's source is but they have it very much wrong. On the other hand Maria's Italian is from the 1930s so it's most definitely me who's in the wrong , but still. Nowadays the spelling is "figliolo" and it's still kind of and awkward word that is being used less and less. This particular spelling makes it sound even more ancient and dramatic so I was immediately taken aback.
Now that I've thought about it a little more I'm pretty sure this spelling still exists but it's from a dialect, not proper Italian, so you use it only if you want to sound very dramatic. Tbh I've only ever heard southern Italian grannies say that so it checks out

THE SUN AND THE STAR SPOILERS ‼️
i think a thing that disappointed me was that nico and will were talking about how they needed imperial gold to kill amphithemis (a mania) but rick and mark didn’t take the opportunity that was RIGHT THERE.
it was mentioned that will had his gold necklace with nico’s ring on it, so why didn’t they make the gold necklace imperial gold, and have it change into a whip??? will solace with a golden whip?? like c’mon the opportunity was right there!!!

Hi! I saw that you write for pjo! Could you write some hcs of the main three kids catching the reader (adoptive older sibling! Child of hephastus!) Sneaking out of camp to see their lover. (I was thinking its sort of like- a forbbiden love situation for reasons) and low key keeping that information as possible blackmail (in a lighthearted way,Like siblings often do to bribe eachother into doing stuff the other doesnt want to like chores n stuff).
The reader is afab but uses they/them pronouns and is around 19/20.
Thanks in advance!
“why are you hanging half way out your window?”
pairing: platonic!thalia grace x nb!child of hephaestus!reader, platonic!nico di angelo x nb!child of hephaestus!reader, platonic!percy jackson x nb!child of hephaestus!reader
it’s a bit short but i hope you like it!
Tumblr media
— reader honestly had snuck out to see their partner so many times that they may have been too cocky the night they gotten caught by percy/thalia/nico
— let’s say readers lover is a mortal & knows that they “work” at a camp during the summers (they met at college!) & always offers to see them after camp hours when appropriate
— reader has never been caught so why would that night be an exception?? (they all use it to their advantage)
— they all catch reader on the same night but at different times!
___
— PERCY had been out on a walk when he heard a window harshly open, halting him in his tracks as he whipped his head towards the hephaestus cabin, seeing a black backpack be quickly thrown out the window before approaching
— dude didn’t know what to expect but he def didn’t expect reader of all people to be crawling out of their window in the middle of the night
— “uh, why are you hanging halfway out your window (y/n)?” he asked, both arms crossed over his chest as he looked at the reader weirdly
— poor reader froze mid crawl & literally felt their heart drop to their stomach. out of all people, it had to be percy that caught them sneaking out.
— “getting fresh air?” they replied, finally out of their window & landing on their feet
— the blonde only hummed as he narrowed his eyes at the reader, totally not believing what the just said. “uh huh. well, whatever it is you are doing, i will be remembering this entire interaction & will use it accordingly”
— his words did not make reader feel better about the situation, trying to plead with him to not tell anyone else. he reassured them that he wouldn’t, but he’d definitely use it as blackmail & bring it up whenever he needed something.
— perhaps the next time he had a craving for blue gummy worms, he’d bring up this exact moment the next time reader was planning on sneaking out & get a reward for somehow keeping his big mouth shut about this for so long. yeah, he definitely deserves an award for not ratting reader out (at least that’s what he thinks)
___
— THALIA had just arrived back at camp for a little getaway after being & traveling with artemis’ hunters for so long
— she had nearly fallen asleep until she heard someone trip over something right outside of her cabin, cursing to themselves as they got up
— the moment she opened the door to reveal the reader, thalia wanted to laugh out loud
— “what the hell are you doing?” she asked
— “nothing” reader would reply as they fixed themselves & brushed the dirt off their pants
— “doesn’t look like nothing”
— “it’s 100% nothing, thalia”
— “where are you going anyway this late at night?”
— “what’s with the interrogations, grace?”
— thalia gave up on trying to pry the information out of you & only rolled her eyes, bidding you a good night before promptly telling you that she won’t forget about this in the morning
— she def is planning on getting the information out of her one way or another OR will always bring it up until reader cracks & spills the beans
___
— NICO is already wide awake when he sees a shadow breeze past him as he sat near the woods, having trouble falling asleep
— his eyes immediately dart up towards the figure, squinting in attempts to get a more accurate image of whoever it was walking around at midnight
— “(y/n)?” he asked
— the groan that reader let out sounded more like a growl as they became increasingly frustrated at getting caught three times trying to leave
— “yes, nico?”
— “what are you doing up this late?”
— “on a walk”
— “going for a walk at midnight with your backpack filled to the brim?”
— “yes. building endurance y’know?”
— the scoff nico made wanted you to crawl back into your window & never come back out. getting caught once was fine & something you could handle. but three times? the universe just seemed to hate you at this moment
— “hmm, sure. whatever you say”
— the minute he turned his head back towards the stars, you immediately beelined towards the woods/exit of camp half-blood, cursing yourself for being so carefree in your escape
— nico wasn’t too hellbent on using it for blackmail but once he heard about thalia & percy catching you the previous night as well, he just knew he had to join in on their teasing
— you spent so many nights doing percy’s laundry that you could literally tell what his size was from just looking at a piece of clothing. you gave the last piece of your favorite dessert to thalia too many times to count. & you took on the brunt of nico’s chores. you’d get them back later, trust!

Nico Di Angelo x Son of the fates ♾️
Pairing(s): Nico Di Angelo x Male! Reader
The request was one of the specific fates but I feel like my hcs could be applicable to any
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Definitely an interesting dynamic
When you’re first introduced to each other there isn’t much interest but then he hears your godly parent
I’d imagine that there would be a ton of thoughts going through his head but one especially comes to mind
That would be Bianca
Sure, he’s learned to accept what happened but the pain and need for her still exists- even if it’s a bit different
You two were introduced in a group, probably while things were being discussed in the big house between cabins
Either way you peak his interest and his eyes follow you wherever you go
Unbeknownst to him, you’re aware of this-
Not many people know but you’re able to see glimpses of the future and especially in visions
And lesser known? You’re even able to manipulate the fates of people
With some limits of course but it’s still all the same
So when Nico approaches you it’s probably in the middle of the night and asks you a single question
“Could Bianca have met a different fate”?
It’s shocking to say the least
The person whose so closed off and secretive comes to a complete stranger and asks a question that no one would’ve expected
You can’t say u don’t know what he’s talking about, you know of Bianca
I mean who doesn’t remember her? Maybe some newer campers but you’re especially familiar
So, with the options of letting Nico be torn apart by harpy’s from finding him out after curfew or letting him in, you chose the latter
You let him in and let him know it’s a bit difficult to see the possible alternate futures without the person directly there- but someone close to her would do
So you do what you need and see into her possible futures- albeit a bit difficult as her thread was cut many years ago
Well in the end you have to break the terrible news of the fact there was no way around it- unless someone else died in her place but even that was close to impossible of happening
He left with a small thanks and you knew he was gone once the crickets started chirping again
The next morning you see him around again- maybe even more
It was hard to say how it happened but before no time you two were like this 🤞
That’s to say- close)
It was before sunrise and the two of you were just chilling in the morning freshness near the lake
Usually Nico despised the morning- but he’d be up before 12 p.m today, just for you
You two sat there going about your usual teasing and sarcastically dark humored comments when he turns to you and blurts out
“I like you”
Your head obviously whipped from the rising sun to him just to see him facing the other way
Knowing him, he was probably flushed and even more? Scared of ruining your friendship
Maybe he was braver than you thought because he turns back to you and asks “did you see that?”
Obviously referencing your ability to see the future
The whole situation was just funny, maybe there was something wrong with you but maybe not since Nico was laughing too
Of course you two actually discuss things and soon after you were proud to announce your new relationship
Things weren’t all that different- Nico was still your best friend but even better, your boyfriend
You two would usually go on quests and stuff together
I mean it’d mean the possible end for anyone who dared to separate you two
Your future sight could confirm that
Well anyway,
Things remained the same, demigods you cared for died and life happened
Normal things for any demigod to go through but there’s a memory that especially stuck out
That one being when Nico had discovered your ability to change fate
It was not something to be expected of a demigod- especially a power as strong as this
Of course there’s some limits- you’re not exactly a god but it’s whatever
Yknow, because of the limits (rarely being able to use it unless in dire need)
when Nico ran out of juice and tired out, a monster or whatever it was that you guys were battling got him trapped and fear overtook you all at once
You don’t exactly remember how it happened but all you know is that it just did
And while the monster was originally fated to die and Nico was to be direly hurt- you changed it so it’d die from complications and Nico would be alright
What happened wasn’t really discussed until after the quest and until after you reached Nicos cabin
No one else (Hazel) was staying over so might as well join him in a nice cuddle sesh
The silence stretched for ages and everything must come to an end, so obviously that silence did
Nico spoke up in a way you could tell he was hyper aware of his wording and tone
“What…what was that power? I was clearly going to get hurt in the end”
He continued “and you blacked out, you don’t have to explain but if anything I’m just worried”
He tried being non chalant about it but his worry was prominent
“I’m able to change the fate of people- but only when in dire need and when I’m especially scared!” You arose and faced Nico panicked, trying to make sure he didn’t get the wrong idea.
Especially since you know how he resented Percy for not doing anything about she that shall not be named)
Nico sighed, sensing how you feel “I hope you didn’t hold that information thinking I’d be upset you didn’t change her fate- it hurts,it does and we both know it’s a sore topic but I’ve matured past blaming people”
You were surprised he directly brought up the elephant in the room but it didn’t end there
“I’m also sorry that I made you feel like you couldn’t talk about something about yourself.” He looked at you with a calm smile and his eyes softened “I love everything about you, so I wouldn’t blame you for anything that has nothing to do with you, even if something could’ve been changed.”
His whole speech was so heartfelt and the night ended with the tension eased and the two of you guys snuggled tightly with each other.
There’s of course some sweet moments between the two of you
It definitely makes for an interesting dynamic when you confess that you knew you’d end up with Nico and when he asks how or why or whatever
You simply reply that your strings are intertwined with one another
This definitely makes Nico more flustered than he’d like to admit
Even if you two never discuss this again he’s always thinking about
And thinking about how you and him are basically soulmates always reassures him when and if he ever feels insecure of your relationship
Not to mention how it’s got him giggling in secret but let’s not discuss that
Of course he doesn’t know if you’re being honest but it makes him feel warm and fuzzy all the same (it is true, I confirm)
Eventually you explore your abilities more but you end up wherever fate leads you(get it?😉) cringe ik 😔

Sibling rivals, sibling allies
Masterlist
Nico Di Angelo x Hades! reader (platonic) Summary: Nico was aware his sibling loved him, to the point that lectures were inevitable. Warning: Angst, Siblings written by an only child, no use of y/n Author note: English is not my first language so I am sorry for any mistakes beforehand. I am not very good at angst so I hope I did this some justice. I also tried to make it gender-neutral as the request did not specify, however, this is my first time writing like that so I am sorry if I missed anything. All right to the artist of the fanart, I could not find them, but if you do, let me know and I will tag them.  Proofread by me and me only (T▽T) request: Yes word count: 1,3k Song: Lean on - Major Lazer ( ft. MØ, DJ Snake )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sibling rivalry was something everyone expected when having more than one child. And who especially expected it were the Greek gods. They even encouraged it. Sadly, for Hades, his children got along and refused to fight each other.
Usually, Nico would play mythomagic with them or just lazily exist in the camp. Only a few people would talk to him. But he is used to it now. That's why he was confused when they ran into the Hades cabin and suggested training with said two. He agreed nonetheless, not wanting to disappoint his last older sibling, and he also thought Percy was okay-ish.
That is why he was standing in the area, watching them absolutely beat Percy's ass. Annabeth was standing beside him but did not look very happy about what was happening. He can't blame her, he would not be either if the roles were reversed. Also, the Hades children weren't really known for their good temper, so it made sense.
So when Percy tapped out, he wasn't surprised. However, the girl next to him made her way to help her friend up.
“Close your mouth, flies gonna take it as an invite.” They said, slightly tapping his chin to close it. Nico glared at them but did not argue. they were covered in sweat and breathing heavily. Nico was sure it was from the sun, not the fight, as he dubs Percy would give it much. If anything they more likely only tickled each other with swords. Although he was warned, that activity can cause accidental stab wounds and immediate visit to the infirmary.
The other two campers joined them. Percy bleeding from his scratches and Annabeth frowns on her face. He knew it was his turn now. That's what they agreed on. He did not think putting him, a child of one of the 3, against Annabeth was fair. Granted, were it a few months back when he thought he had a crush on her, before releasing he had a crush on Percy, it would have been harder to fight her.
“Come on whip, it's our turn.” Says Annabeth and gestures her knives at him. Nico can only tighten his hold on the sword he was holding. He takes a few steps to face her.
“Annabeth.” Sounds behind him warningly. The girl in question just huffs before charging at him. He moved out of the way, but it was like she already knew his steps before him and stuck him in the leg.
He winced but kept on his feet. She charges again, but this time he manages to avoid and block her from sighting him. Annabeth did not like that. Not only she was a fast thinker, but Nico would also forget she had been trained by Luke, one of the best swordsmen in the last couple of hundred years. Annabeth strikes again and Nico has no time to even register what is going on. She slashes his Achilles. Nico yelps and falls, having no strength to put weight on his leg. Annabeth manages to get hold of his sword. She was not standing above him with the tip of his sword at his throat.
“Get up,” she says with a sinister smile. He won't admit it but he was scared for a moment. That was before Annabeth got slammed by his sibling and rolled away. Percy yelped in surprise and went to help Annabeth while the siblings helped each other.
“What the fuck was that for?” Argued Annabeth once she regained her composure.
“You immobilized him! What the fuck do you mean get up!” His sibling yelled still kneeling next to him. Nico has sat up now, trying to move his leg but when pain shot up he decided against it.
“Monsters are not gonna hold back just because he can't stand!” Annabeth was now making her way to them. Percy was trying to stop her but was very unsuccessful.
“Monster my ass Annabeth. You knew very well what-” A roar cuts her off. All of them freeze in their spots. A rustling in the trees got their attention. A distant yell is what got them moving. Nico felt four arms lifting him.
His sibling and Annabeth were trying their best to get his limping ass away from whatever there was. Percy was surveying the area when he saw it.
“Fuck.” Was all that left him. there stood, an automatic bull, as big as the house. All of their eyes widened as they tried to hurry up. unfortunately, the bull has seen them and charged at them. Nico could feel his weight bearing but only on Annabeth as his sibling went to aid Percy in trying to distract the beast. He wanted to stop them, but he was no use at the moment.
Annabeth stops and props Nico on a tree.
“What are you doing?” He hisses and she just rolls her eyes.
“I'm going to help them.” She says making sure Nico is comfortable.
“You can't leave me here.” Nico could see that she took that as a challenge. before she could leave him however they both heard Percy yell. turning their attention to him they can see a giant boulder heading their way. Nico makes eye contact with his sibling before he feels something tackling him on the ground.
“NICO” Was all he heard before the world became black.
When Nico came to his senses, he thought that perhaps, Dad pulled him aside, that maybe travelledow travelled. And Brehabs a small hope of seeing Bianca was there. However, when he heard his sibling absolutely destroying their vocal cords from the yelling, he knew he was mistaken.
Opening his eyes, above him stood a well-known Apollo kid, his name was Will or something like that. The light from his hands makes Nico turn his face away and to the side. Only to be faced with a comic view. Annabeth sitting on a bed having her hand looked after by a different Apollo kid. Percy is next to her, holding her other hand. And his sibling, going off on both of them, mostly Annabeth by the looks of it.  Annabeth's head was hung low, it was apparent that she got an earful from Percy beforehand.
Nico is enjoying the situation. Not only is he not getting reprimanded, but he is also getting taken care of by a cute guy. His freedom is shored, however, as Percy nudges the other Hades kid and points to him.
His sibling turns to him at lightning speed, when they see he's awake, they rush to him kneeling by the bed. He can see they are worried even when all of them are out of immediate danger. When they saw he was okay they jumped in for a hug. Will jumped back startled and Nico could only groan in pain. Letting him go just as quickly as they hugged him
“Sorry, I just. I just thought I would have to bargain with Dad.” They say with a smile on their face. Although tears were streaming down their faces making them look a little bit hysterical.
Nico smiled at them.
“I'm fine, I did not even see Dad.” He says, trying to reassure them that he in fact did not die and came back. They just chuckled and nodded.
They all sat in silence for a few minutes before Annabeth with Percy walked up to his bed.
“I'm sorry.” She says. Nico expected her to continue but she didn't. So Nico just nodded, taking in that they were all still startled by what happened.
Next to him, his sibling stood up. It was like a switch turned in in them. Manually they made both Percy and Annabeth sit down at the end of his bed. They took a deep breath before starting.
“I am lost for words!...”
And despite being lost for words, they continue to yell at them for the next 45 minutes. Nico would not want it any other way.

Will wakes up sometime around two, stumbling over to Arts & Crafts. He looks so incredibly, adorably sleepy, face creased with pillow marks and hair sticking out everywhere even worse than usual, that Nico can’t help his smile.
“Morning,” he says quietly, shifting over in the bench to make room. “Or, well, afternoon.”
“Mmfh,” Will responds. He sways on his feet, eyes still closed, so Nico has reach back and take his hand, guiding him to the seat Nico cleared for him.
“Still sleepy?”
Instead of answering, Will slumps onto his shoulder. Nico tenses for a moment, but quickly relaxes — Will is out of it. He’s a heavy weight on Nico’s side, and his breath comes out in little puffs; he’s halfway to snoring. He sets aside the clay sculpture he was making, wiping off his hands, and shifts slightly to make his shoulder more comfortable, sliding his hands in Will’s hair. After a quick glance to double check that no one’s around, he cards through the matted curls, carefully untangling the birds nest that sits currently upon his head.
“Night shift was long?”
Will groans, nuzzling deeper into Nico’s neck. Nico huffs, allowing it, turning his half-limp body so he’s practically sitting on top of him. It’s kind of a nice weight, actually. And Will is warm, slumped and half-sprawled in his lap like a freckly blanket.
“Got thrown up on three times.”
It takes Nico a second to decipher the words, mumbled as they are. His finger gets caught in a strand of Will’s hair as he winces, tugging a touch too hard. Will shivers.
“Oof.”
“Mhm. Shouldn’t complain, though. Not Cecil’s fault.” He pauses. “Well, it’s a little his fault. I told him not to mess with Billie’s garden.”
Nico smiles. “You know, it’s not the first time a Hermes kid has been poisoned for their dumbassery. You could’ve left his cabin to handle him.”
“They would do a horrible job. They might actually make him worse.”
“Yep.”
“…I can’t leave him to suffer, Neeks.”
“Hero complex,” Nico teases. “Sounds like a natural consequence to me.”
“Shhhh. I’m sleeping.”
“It’s two thirty in the afternoon, Solace.”
“Pot, kettle, et cetera.”
Nico smiles. “Only dorky people say et cetera when they’re half asleep.” He shifts, accepting that he has a lapful of head medic, now, no refunds or exchanges. It’s still, somehow, very comfortable — he feels as if he’s laying in a sun patch, under a warm, heavy blanket. Plus, Will smells like strawberries and lavender and his sandalwood shampoo. Nico could get used to it.
He does, however, subtly raise a couple skeleton to stand guard outside the gazebo — no need to get anyone gossiping. As cute as a sleepy Solace is, Nico can and will shove him to the ground the second anyone gets too close. He has a Reputation.
(He is a liar.)
“Did I miss the strawberry coffee cake this morning?”
“Yes.”
“Aw.”
Nico hums, untangling the last of his hair. Without anything for his hands to do, he slides them under Will’s hoodie, resting them in his stomach, ignoring his whining and exaggerated shiver at Nico’s ice-cold hands.
If Nico is going to function as his personal bean-bag chair, Will is going to function as his space heater. Fair’s fair.
“Saved a piece for you, though.”
He feels Will’s grin more than sees it, twisted up as they are. He feels his happy little wiggle, too, arms flailing before wrapping around Nico’s waist, thighs shifting before re-bracketing his hips.
“You’re my actual favourite.”
“Hm. I think you say that to all the boys you save you strawberry cake and let you nap on them.”
“Nah.” Will’s breathing starts to slow, body stilling as he rests his head right about Nico’s heart. He can feel his puffs of breath in his collarbone, tickling the skin under his thin t-shirt. “Just you.”
Nico flushes, more pleased than he’s willing to admit, and rests his chin on his head, watching over the strawberry fields. He checks that Will is actually asleep, and when he is, he presses a quick, darting kiss to his still-creased cheek, and smiles.
“You’re my favourite, too.”

Morning! So this week is ace week (I’ve been told. Not sure)
Could I please ask for nico’s cool laidback and flirty older brother coming out to Nico as ace please? 👉🏼👈🏼
And he’s kinda worried Nico will take it the wrong way? Especially since he was like mico’s “gay flirty cool idol” and he fears telling him he’s ace will disappoint Nico?
Thanks and, obviously, no pressure!
Love your content 🫶
Happy ace week!
heya.... long time no see?
So this may have been requested back in October and I've only just written it up now but, oh well, I really like how this has turned out and I've actually finished three one shots in the last few days so maybe I'm on a roll or smthn, idk. And just a reminder [cause everyone seems to be venting thru these fics lol] that I'm always here to chat <3
soggy socks and femur bones--- Nico di Angelo & asexual big brother!reader »»————- ★ ————-««
Nico trudged up the stairs and glared at the closed cabin door.
He took a breath, and then slammed it open, kicking off his muddy boots because Will had decided that of course having a picnic in the middle of the forest after a storm was an intelligent plan.
Water formed a puddle by his soggy socks when he wrung out his jacket and wiped his hands on his pants with a huff.
Hazel’s witchcraft candles everyone was silently hoping and pleading to their godly parents weren’t for another curse, burned on the coffin-shaped bookshelves. At least they smelt like vanilla. “Yo, uh… what’s with all the…”
Nico whipped around and eyed you through his wet, stuck-together eyelashes. “Will planned the date this time.”
“…And?” You grinned, sitting forwards and closing the lid of your secret [it wasn’t really a secret at this point] laptop. There was a bag of chocolates on your lap as well. And you were dry.
He raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“How did it go? Did you kiss? Do I have to dig his grave? I mean I will,” you said with a shrug, and then winced. “But I need someone to keep giving me painkillers… It’s not my fault Austin did a shit job at ripping my molars out.”
“He was fine. You just refuse to stop eating salt and vinegar chips,” Nico argued, and glanced at empty packets in the bin by your bed.
You shook your head stubbornly. “No, no my gums are infected cause Au-”
“It was fine!” Nico shrieked, and stomped into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. He slammed it too far though, and it bounced back open on its hinges. He glared at the heart-shaped mirror someone had written ‘love yourself babes’ on. Three guesses who.
“…So… did you kiss?”
Nico glared at the mirror harder. The long scratches across his face had faded. Now they were just a few shades darker than his olive skin. “Why would I tell you?”
“Uh, cause I’m your gay icon,” you scoffed, and he heard the sound of chocolate wrappers crinkling. “Who else would you talk to about this?”
Nico uncapped the mango-flavored toothpaste [Hazel had discovered artificial flavors and was going to be buried with them] and squeezed some onto his toothbrush. At least half of the bristles had fallen out. Probably because of the fact children of Hades, or Pluto, had sharper than necessary canines. Something to do with vampires.
He shrugged. “Jason.”
“Okay that hurt,” you said. You were quiet for a moment. “And, uh… about the whole…”
He rolled his eyes and brushed his teeth, orange foam dripping down his chin as he spoke. “We kissed. Shut up.”
“… I will definitely be teasing you about that later, remind me too, but that… wasn’t really what I meant,” you said. From what Nico could tell, you sounded nervous. Like, genuinely. That was odd.
Nico narrowed his eyes.
“I just, I kinda wanted to tell you something.”
He spat out the fruit toothpaste and rinsed his mouth out with the black and white retro Addams family mug you had ordered online when you saw it, because ‘what else is pocket money for?’. “…Well?”
You tapped your nails on your laptop, probably chipping the polish your aphrodite friends had done on sleepover night. Nico usually spent that night hiding in Bunker 9 while Leo built his latest bomb. Or a Monster-proof phone. Or both. “You aren’t very good at this, are you?”
“Jason hasn’t got to the emotional conversations bit of teaching me how to be a human yet. We’re still at the how to flirt with Will part. Apparently, I’m not very good at it.” Nico said.
“That I can believe.” You muttered. “Anyway, what I was gonna say is… well it’s actually been ages but I sorta didn’t wanna tell you cause then maybe you wouldn’t feel like you could relate to me as much and I really like it when we eat icecream and cry together.”
Nico frowned. “I haven’t cried in three years.”
“…Okay, that’s a problem.” You said. Your voice cracked.
“You just walk up to me and start sobbing and then I feed you Ben and Jerry’s to shut you up.” Nico said, leaving the bathroom and throwing his drenched clothes over the portable heater in the corner, by the snake’s tank. Dracula was a yellow python that everyone stuck banana stickers to on a daily basis.
You threw your hands up in the air. “See! It’s already happening and I haven’t even told you yet!”
Nico scrunched up his nose and put some of Dracula’s food into the tank. Meaning, a dead rat. “Told me what?”
“That I’m Ace!”
He stared at Dracula.
“Like, like Asexual, you know,” you said quietly, and chuckled. You did sound nervous. “I taught you about that one, didn’t I?”
Nico shrugged. Every sexuality and gender ever discovered. It had been a very long lesson. But he had got to watch Good Omens. And some lesbian Bollywood movies too, with awesome soundtracks. “Yeah.”
You kept tapping your fingers on your laptop.“…You’re not reacting that much.”
“Would you prefer it if I started crying?”
“Yes, actually. How have you not cried in three years? We need to do something about that.” You said, very obviously trying to change the subject.
Nico sat down on the puffy duvet next to you.
“I’m not going to cry…” Nico said, looking away at the posters Hazel had pinned to her wall with throwing knives made of femur bones. He ducked his head. “And… I’m not gonna, like, not want to hang out with you anymore… You’re still, like, my favorite brother, or whatever.”
You whipped around, eyes wide. Your eyeliner was smudged. “Aw!”
“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!” Nico screeched, and dodged the hug.
You managed to wrestle him into a hug despite his clawing and shrieking, and rolled around with him in the mound of teddies and chocolates. “You love me!”
“I will bite you.”

I Know Monsters (And You're Not One)
Nico di Angelo x Son of Apollo Reader
Prompt - "Why are you helping a monster?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were walking around the infirmary putting everything away.
All of your other siblings had already left to dinner but you volunteered to stay behind to clean up. Not many people had come into the infirmary but the people who did were funny. An Ares kid that had come in everyday for the past week.
He was so well known and everyone was so convinced that he would keep coming back that there was a bed literally with his name on it. Then a kid came in with a broken arm because he had tried to climb a tree, not the first time this had happened.
So there wasn’t really a lot to clean up but you still wanted to. You were fixing a blanket on one of the beds when you heard footsteps walking into the infirmary. You thought it was one of your siblings so you turned around with a smile to greet them but what you saw shocked the smile off your face.
Standing under the doorway was Nico di Angelo.
He was leaning against the door and was holding his left side. His face was covered in dirt and something that looked like blood. His shirt and pants were torn and you could see that his clothes were wet. Under the clothes you could see bruises and dried blood.
Nico’s eyes looked lidded and he looked like you would pass out any second. “Nico!” You yelled, dropped the blanket you were holding and running over to him. Nico tried to stand up and walk but he fell forward instead. You caught Nico before he fell. You held him as he head fell on your shoulder.
"What happened?”
You asked, moving Nico to the nearest bed. Nico just let out a moan of pain when you laid him on the bed. You ran over and grabbed some bandages and some nectar. You didn’t think Nico was in the state to chew something.
You placed the stuff on a nearby table and started to remove Nico’s clothes. There wasn’t a lot to remove but you still needed to. Once you got Nico’s shirt off you noticed a large cut on Nico’s chest. It went from the bottom of his right chest to the left side of his waist. It looked like it went to his back but you didn’t check.
You focused on wrapping the bandage on his chest and his arms. Even though Nico’s chest was bruised and cut you still stared at it. You shook your head and focused on wrapping his chest, not staring at it.
After you were finished with that you moved to his legs. You hesitated for a moment before going to remove them. You couldn’t let your feelings for the Ghost Boy stop you from helping him. Speaking of him Nico didn’t really say anything when you helped him.
He would watch you with half closed eyes and make sounds of pain which would cause you to quietly apologize for hurting him. Once his pants were removed you started fixing his legs. Wrapping his legs up and whipping up blood like you did with his chest.
Once that was done you stood up.
You looked Nico over, making sure that everything that needed to be wrapped was. Once that was done you moved closer to Nico. You placed your hands under him and tried to prop him up. Nico needed to be sitting up to drink the nectar.
Nico groaned at the movements. “Sorry”, you apologized, still moving Nico. Once Nico was kinda sitting up you grabbed the bottle of nectar and brought it to his lips. Nico tried to grab it but he couldn’t move his arms that much.
So you held it for him as he drank it. Once Nico drank enough you placed the bottle down and sat on the chair again. Nico looked better. Color, well some color, was slowly returning to his body but Nico still looked tired
You reached over for a blanket and draped it over Nico’s lap. Nico looked down at the blanket while you leaned back in the chair. “So what happened?” You asked again, wanting to know what hurt Nico like this.
You knew Nico was an excellent fighter and wasn’t beat so easily. So what happened? Nico didn’t answer you, he kept his gaze on the blanket and his hands.
“Why?” Nico asked.
This confused you.
“Why what?” You asked back. Leaning forward in your chair. “Why would you help a monster?” Your eyes widened and you were hurt as well as confused. What did Nico mean? Did he think he was a monster?
Why wouldn’t you help him?
The truth was that you would always help Nico. The other truth was that you had a crush on Nico. Ever since you first saw the dark haired boy in the shadows you had wanted to befriend him. You had tried but so far Nico never really talked to you.
He would, but only if you talked to him first. You liked your conversations with Nico, Nico was unlike anyone else you had ever talked to. Plus, you also found him cute.
“You're not a monster, not to me”, you confused. You don’t know why you did this. You were even sure if Nico liked you back or if he liked guys. He probably didn’t. Plus how would that work. You were, like most of your siblings, a ball of sunshine.
Nico was, well Nico.
Always in the shadows and never talking to anyone. From what you knew Nico had no friends. You wanted to be his friend. If Nico wanted to be yours. Nico looked up at you from his hands. You both stared at each other before Nico started speaking.
“I ran into some monsters. There were so many. I knew I wouldn’t be able to defeat them all but I still tried. That’s how I got hurt, but after I realized I was probably going to die I shadow traveled away. What confuses me though is that I didn’t think of the infirmary when I shadow traveled. I just thought of safety”.
Once Nico was done talking he looked back down at his hands. You looked at your hands too.
That was weird.
You didn’t really know how shadow traveling works but by how confused Nico had sounded you figured that wasn’t how it was supposed to work. Maybe Nico just traveled here because the infirmary was the only place that could help Nico.
You wanted to think he traveled here because he felt safe with you but you doubted that. You looked up at Nico to see a slight blush on his face. It was hard to see since the sun was setting and there were only a few lights in the infirmary.
Nico was still looking at his hands but you were looking at Nico. Nobody said anything for what felt like hours till you heard more footsteps coming into the infirmary.
You looked over to see one of your siblings coming into the infirmary. You stood up and started walking over to them. You informed them about Nico and told them to tell you if Nico’s state changes.
They nodded and started cleaning up what you forgot. You glanced over to Nico one last time before leaving the infirmary.
You were getting hungry anyway.
Tumblr media
Nico slightly watched as the new Apollo kid walked around the infirmary. They seemed to be ignoring Nico and Nico was happy about that. He needed to think anyway. Nico knew why he came to the infirmary when you shadow traveled
He thought of some place safe when he did. So he would have traveled to you no matter where you were. Nico didn’t know how to feel about that. He didn’t know how to feel about the fact that he likes you.
You were one of the only people that actually liked to hang out with Nico. You always made a point to talk to him when he was at camp. Nico had been spending more time at camp because you were so nice to him.
Nico knew that he liked guys, but he didn’t like it. It felt wrong. Like something was wrong with Nico. But Nico had seen of the same sex holding hands at Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter. Nico never thought that it was wrong when he saw it, only when he thought about it.
Nico had enough stuff to worry about. But he wanted to be next to you too. Why was this so hard? Nico brought a hand up and rubbed his eyes.
He was tired.
Nico slowly moved to lay back down. Every time he moved it felt like he was getting lit on fire. Nico could feel that gaze of the Apollo kid on him, waiting to see if Nico needed help. Nico didn’t feel like he needed help.
He didn’t like people touching him. But when you did Nico was fine with it. Maybe it was because he was out of it, maybe it was because you touched him with such care.
Nico didn’t know.
This was so confusing. Maybe Nico could ask someone about this. Maybe Hazel, or Piper. Nico didn’t really know Piper that well but she was a child of Aphrodite. Once Nico finally laid down he pulled the blanket over himself and stared at the ceiling.
Nico could feel his eyes getting heavy but his mind was clouded.
Tumblr media
Nico didn’t know when he fell asleep but when he woke up he heard commotion. Nico quickly remembered what happened before he fell asleep. He slowly opened his eyes, Nico wanted to close them quickly when light shined in his eyes.
“He likes you Y/n”, Nico got confused at the mention of your name. “No he doesn’t, Nico doesn’t even like guys”, Nico furrowed his brows confused but he quickly widened his eyes when he realized what you and someone else was talking about.
You liked him?
You liked guys, more importantly you liked Nico? Nico tried to get up but his arms hurt and he let out a grunt of pain. Nico heard a gasp and felt someone place their hands under Nico. Nico was about to tell them to let go when he saw who was helping him.
Nico didn’t say anything as you helped him sit up. “Do you need anything?” You asked. Nico nodded and pointed to the bottle of water on the table. You reached over and grabbed it, holding it out to Nico to see if he could hold it.
Nico held his hand out and he was able to hold it. Nico was able to hold it but he was shaking a bit. You held your hands under Nico’s, ready to catch it if Nico dropped it. Once Nico was finished he handed it to you and you placed it back down on the table.
You then started to look over Nico. Nico could tell that you were just making sure that he healed well over night but he still blushed slightly. You made sure that his bandages were still on and there wasn’t any blood on them.
Then you made sure that Nico’s bruises healed and that he was overall okay. “Okay you look fine but how do you feel?” You asked, looking over at Nico with your hands in your pockets. Nico thought for a bit before nodding, “I feel fine”. Nico told you.
Looking at his lap instead of you. You nodded but you could tell that Nico wasn’t telling you everything. “Well someone is here to see you but if you feel like your condition is getting worse tell someone”, you told Nico before walking away and waving your hand at the door.
Nico looked over at the door to see Hazel standing at the door but she was slowly walking in. “Hey Nico”, Hazel said with a smile before sitting in the chair by Nico’s bed. “Hey sis”, Nico said but he was still thinking about you and his feelings.
Hazel could tell that Nico was thinking about something so she asked. Nico told her about what had happened and what he overheard. Hazel smiled and grabbed her brother's hand. “Well it sounds like you two liked each other. I think you should confess to him”, Hazel stood up and placed a kiss on Nico’s forehead.
“I have to go but you should confess”, Hazel let go of Nico's hand and walked away. Nico looked at Hazel walking away. Maybe he should take her advice.
But what could happen?
What if you and Nico didn’t work out? What if you didn’t actually like him. Maybe he was dreaming when he heard you and one of your siblings talking. Nico looked at his hands. Maybe he should just bite the bullet. “Hey Y/n”, Nico called out and you appeared next to him at the speed of light.
Nico was scared at how fast you appeared but he quickly calmed down at the concerned expression on your face. “Is everything okay?” You asked, looking over Nico. “Everything is okay but I wanted to talk to you”, Nico said and even that was really hard to get out.
You furrowed your brows and sat down in the chair. You waited for Nico to say something.
And waited.
And waited.
It took a full five minutes before Nico whispered something out so quiet that you barely heard him. “Would you like to go out on a date with me?” Nico asked. Not making eye contact as he asked.
You smiled at how scared and shy Nico looked right now. You stood up and placed a hand under his chin to make him look at you. You placed a kiss on Nico’s forehead before saying, “Once you get better I will go out on a date with you Angel”.
You smiled at the blush on Nico’s face before walking away when you were called by one of your siblings.
Nico smiled, the pain in his body overran but happiness.

The clicking of heels against the polished floor grabs my attention, the game I was holding in my hand lays idly to the side. Bianca shoots me a nervous look from her seat next to me before peering up at the stern lady. The lady's grey hair was slicked back into a bun, her nose crooked, almost like a scythe. She did not look very nice.
"Bianca Di Angelo." She states, matter of factly. "I am here to take you, your brother," The woman shoots a pointed look at Nico, "And your... friend."
The look the mysterious woman gave was poisonous, her eyes daggers as she looked at me. Her nose sneered as she took in the surroundings of the casino. It was loud, I could tell she didn't like it.
"My name is Rose." I snapped, quickly rising to my feet. I cross my arms as her eyes narrow as she looks at me. I glare back at her, not backing down from her imposing stare.
She sighs and rolls her eyes muttering something under her breath, something along the lines of 'stupid demigods'. I feel Bianca stand next to me, putting a calming hand on my shoulder. She quickly steps in front of me, breaking my cold stare at the unpleasant woman.
"Excuse me, but are you here to take us to school?" Bianca asks, her head tilted in a curious way. The old woman nodded, a careless look on her face.
"Yes, now come, we haven't got any time to lose. Don't ask any questions." The woman says before turning on her heel to the exit of the casino. I cast a look over my shoulder to Nico, his face twisted in a worried look. His hands fiddled with a silver army soldier toy, as he glanced around at everyone except the lawyer.
"Are you sure we can't just stay?" A small voice speaks out from behind Bianca. The stern woman whips around to look at Nico, who looks like he was about to cry. The lawyer scoffs.
"Stupid boy. You three are too important to be kept here." She bluntly states. Kept here? Too important? Her words make my mind spiral. I cast a worried glance over to Bianca who also has a troubled look on her face.
I couldn't help the nervous feeling in my chest. My Dad had brought me here about two months ago. Now that I think of it, I couldn't really remember what he looked like, let alone why he left me here. Were we being kept here? I shake my head, trying to rid my mind of these troubling thoughts.
My brows furrow as I try to remember the events leading up to entering the casino. It feels like the memories are just out of reach, like a blank space fills the area where they used to be. All I could remember was the year; 1976. I didn't want to go back out there, I didn't want to face what was waiting for me on the outside. Surely, the police would still be looking for me. Most of all, I didn't want that... thing to get me.
I roughly bump into Bianca, who stopped in her tracks. Daylight poured through the open door of the casino, I could hear many voices and sounds coming from outside.
"Bianca, what the hell." I ask, my mind snapping back to reality. I glance up and all words are lost as I become rooted to my spot. The cars zoomed by in the road, hundreds of billboards lined the bustling streets. There were bright screens with neon words that I couldn't even understand. Where was I? All I know that this was not 1976.
"Hurry up, children. We haven't got time to loose." The lawyer snaps. I look over to her, my mouth wide open. Bianca and Nico still had their eyes glued to the unfamiliar scene, their faces contorted into looks of panic.
A feeling of anger rose up inside of me as I took steps closer to the woman. She didn't even flinch as I leaned as close as I could to her.
"Where the fuck are we?" I yell, my confusion getting the better of my rationality. My arms gesture to the enigmatic scene in front of me. What year is it? What happened?" My mind is running too fast that I can't comprehend one thought. Where were we? What happened while I was in the casino? Why did it look like we were in the future?
An annoyingly amused smile makes it way onto the lawyers face. She shakes her head and lets out a condescending laugh.
"Stupid girl." She began, her eyes bored, "I told you to not ask any questions." My eyes open incredulously at her dismissive words. My entire world had been flipped on its head and she tells me not to ask questions! The anger boils up in my chest as I stand there with millions of questions. I notice pink flowers start to pop up in the cracks of the sidewalk, I didn't care at this point. I couldn't control it.
"What year is it?" A soft voice breaks me from my confused spiral. Bianca, now looking over to the woman, asks, her face full of confusion. She then looks at me, her eyes filled with tears.
"2007." She bluntly states, rolling her eyes as if it was a stupid question. My hand flies to my mouth in shock as I hear the woman's words. 2007! I have been in that damn casino for thirty one years? I reel back, the realization finally hitting me. I shake my head, a feeling of sickness washes over me. This can't be happening.
The woman guides us towards a large black car. I had never seen a car so big and with so many seats! She motions to the driver to leave after we all file into the car. Nico looks completely lost, his hands still on his silver army toy.
"Now, you may be confused." The woman, Camille according to the driver, starts. I scoff at her words, my arms crossed as I look out the window. A growing feeling of sadness wells up in my stomach, a twisting sort of feeling. "I can assure you that you will be safe at your new school. We will be there shortly."
How much did the world change? Why does time pass differently in that casino? Why did my Dad leave me there? Thousands of questions circled around in my head, too many unknowns for me to handle.
I feel my breaths begin to quicken, my hands shaking. I fiddle with the pins and patches on my worn out bomber jacket, quickly grounding myself. I think of my hands in cold grass and a warm breeze blowing over my face. I breathe out a sigh, accepting of the absolutely crazy situation.
I place my hand over Bianca's, she breaks her stare from out the window to look over at me. I give her a reassuring smile and her hand a small squeeze. She gives me a small smile, telling me that she's okay.
"Okay, children, grab your things. We're here." Camille orders. She quickly climbs out of the car and starts making her way to the man standing outside of the ominous front doors of the school. I grab my green duffel bag and follow Bianca out of the car, Nico follows me slowly. I didn't even want to think about how scared he must be. We all follow Camille slowly, our necks craned up to take in the vastness of the school.
Standing on the pathway, there stands a man. He towers over my friends and I as we stand behind our lawyer. He gives us all a large, slightly creepy smile. His two different colored eyes almost seemed to glow as he looked at us.
"Welcome to Westover Hall. Your new home."

Tactical Improvisation
Link: ao3 Pairing: Jason Grace/Nico di Angelo Fandom: Percy Jackson & the Olympians Tags: Canon Divergence - Cupid Scene AU, Humor
Word Count: 3,057
Summary:
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Nico interrupted, stance and voice defiant. He held his sword at the ready as dust and wind whipped around him. Jason tried to vault over a column that had collapsed in between the two of them, but a fresh clump of rubble was hurled his way by the invisible god when he got too close to it. YES YOU DO, SON OF— “Jason already knows I’m gay.”
(or; Nico and Jason follow the rules of improv and "yes, and—" their way into a different outcome in Split.)
“Enough games!” Nico shouted at the invisible god, anger and pain writ plain across his face. “Show yourself!”
Jason kept his eyes open, desperate for any hint of where Cupid might be hiding in these ruins. As it had every time, the voice seemed to come from everywhere at once. How were they supposed to get Diocletian’s Scepter from this guy if he didn’t ever show his face?
POOR NICO DI ANGELO. The god’s voice was tinged with disappointment. YOU LIE TO EVEN YOURSELF. HOW DO YOU EXPECT—
YES YOU DO, SON OF—
“Jason already knows I’m gay.”
Several emotions washed over Jason in succession, too quickly for him to place any of them. They left behind a lingering sense of panic. What? He wanted to look over at Nico, but that would give away the ruse. If they were to avoid angering the god further, Jason had to appear as if none of this was new to him. He kept his face straight as he tried (and failed) to ignore the confused and confusing squirming in his gut. This is no big deal, he tried to tell himself.
But was it? Nico probably wasn’t the first gay person Jason had met, was he? Nobody else came to mind, but that really wasn’t saying a lot. Nothing came to mind for the first fifteen and a half years of Jason’s life. He’d probably met another person—gods nonwithstanding—who liked the same sex, so this nervous excitement was completely irrational.
WHAT.
Oh, right. The quest. A god had just been lied to, and Jason needed to help sell the lie if the two of them wanted to get out of here unscathed. He wasn’t the world’s best liar, but Cupid was being real pushy. The first thing Jason had ever known for certain about himself after waking up on that bus was that he hated bullies.
“He told me.” Jason dodged a falling piece of rubble that had been teetering on top of a nearby pillar. Other than that, the battlefield had mostly calmed down. “I already knew.” Jason was sweaty. He didn’t know if it was the normal amount of mid-battle sweatiness.
YOU WHAT?
If Cupid stayed confused and kept talking, Jason and Nico could probably pinpoint where he was and get close to him without having to dodge monster arrows and rocks the size of kitchen appliances. Jason just had to keep him talking.
“Why are you being so weird about this? I never thought you would be a homophobe.”
The ground shuddered, and for a second, Jason thought that what he said had upset Nico. He’d seen the crack outside the dining pavilion at Camp Half Blood that Nico made when he got too upset, so he knew that Nico was more than capable of causing tremors. When Jason looked over, though, his questing partner looked almost exactly like he always did—serious expression, ready stance, black eyes alert and scanning the surroundings. The only hint that he might be under any sort of duress was that his face was paler than usual.
The weird squirming in Jason’s stomach came back. It made sense that Nico was gay, actually. He really was very pretty. It wasn’t a thought Jason had ever had before, but it was no less true for its novelty. His face wasn’t the type that you would see on polished magazines or blockbuster movies, but it had character. A unique sort of draw that made it hard to look away. Gay guys were supposed to be pretty, right?
The ground shook even harder, and both Jason and Nico stumbled.
HOMOPHOBE?!
Right. Jason tore his eyes away from Nico and fruitlessly tried to search for the now-probably-angry god.
“Yeah. You’re the only one making a big deal of this.” Nico’s voice had a bit of a waver to it that made Jason want to be over there to support him—like any good quest mate would—but he had to focus on other things right now. He could check up on Nico when they got back to the ship. Maybe they could actually have a conversation, get to know each other a bit. They were teammates now, after all.
The thought set off the squirming again.
YOU’RE LYING. YOU STILL HAVEN’T ACCEPTED YOURSELF, NICO DI ANGELO.
“I’m trying!” Nico snapped. The grass around his feet started to wilt and shrivel as his lip curled into a snarl. “Clearly! Isn’t this what you wanted? I told Jason. I’m making an effort.”
YOU CHOSE TO TELL THE ONLY PERSON ON THE SHIP LESS IN TOUCH WITH HIS EMOTIONS THAN YOURSELF.
Jason was momentarily blindsided by the sudden conversational pivot. For just a second, he was offended enough to forget he was speaking to a god.
“Wha— Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?”
PERFECT LITTLE SOLDIER, ALWAYS LIVING UP TO EVERYONE’S EXPECTATIONS. DO YOU KNOW YOUR OWN DESIRES, CHAMPION OF JUNO? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR? MY BELOVED PSYCHE RISKED EVERYTHING IN THE NAME OF LOVE. IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO ATONE FOR HER LACK OF FAITH. AND YOU—WHAT HAVE YOU RISKED IN MY NAME?
“That’s not fair, I had my mind wiped.” The question shook him. Did he know what he wanted? He’d been going on autopilot basically since he woke up at the Grand Canyon, always thinking about the next step of the quest or what his friends needed. It had never seemed important to look inward. Other people came first, both in safety and in happiness. That was just how good leaders thought.
Wasn’t it?
“Lay off him,” Nico called out. “Weren’t you focused on me?”
YOU APPARENTLY DON’T NEED MY HELP, WHY SHOULD I FOCUS ON YOU?
“You call this help?”
SOMETIMES WE NEED TO CONFRONT OUT FAULTS IN ORDER TO KNOW OUR DESIRES.
“I’m fine, actually, sir.” Jason adjusted his grip on his sword. His hands were sweating. “I appreciate the offer, but there’s no need.”
SO YOU WILL STAY IN A RELATIONSHIP BUILT ON LIES AND TRY TO CONVINCE YOURSELF INTO LOVE?
Cupid was being a jerk, but he had a point. Jason had never really felt at ease in his relationship with Piper. He’d chalked it up to butterflies, but maybe he was wrong. Were butterflies supposed to make you feel anxious?
“I have no truth to act as counterpoint. If you know of anything I could do to get my memories back, maybe—”
Jason was interrupted by wave after wave of visions. No, memories. He never saw himself, but he knew instinctively that they were his. They felt right, they slotted into place in a way that some of the stories he’d heard about his past exploits as Praetor never did.
*
He was sitting on top of a wardrobe and hugging his knees to his chest in a room lined with empty beds—the barracks in Camp Jupiter, he knew in a flash. He was alone in the room until the door creaked open and a boy—young man, maybe—stepped in, clearly looking for something. He looked to be about eighteen or nineteen and had dark brown wavy hair and medium brown skin. When he finally spotted Jason’s hiding place, his dark eyes softened in a gentle sort of smile.
Jason remembered this. He remembered this. He’d been up there because it was nearing Halloween and some of the older legionaries had taken over the barracks commons to watch a scary movie. They’d goaded him into staying with them for most of it, but he got up partway through with the excuse that he had to use the bathroom and just… stayed away. This young man was a legacy of Ceres named Hadi. He was a cool older kid, well-respected among his peers and widely admired by the younger legionnaires. And here he was, holding his hand out to eleven-year-old Jason Grace, who got scared by some dumb movie and hid on top of a wardrobe.
“Hey, Jason. Come on down from there, I need some help making scones.” He’d held Jason’s hand for stability when Jason flew down and squeezed it once before letting go. It had made Jason feel special to be singled out like this, even though he knew that Hadi was just doing it to make him feel better after the movie. He didn’t really need help with the scones, either—Hadi was probably the best baker in all of New Rome—but having something to do in a brightly-lit kitchen kept Jason’s mind off of the gory movie. He’d gotten batter on his cheek at some point and Hadi laughed when he pointed it out, his eyes all scrunched up and his smile radiant and—
Ba-thump, went Jason’s heart.
*
He was on the Field of Mars. The name came back to him the instant that he saw it sprawling before him, well-packed dirt and sporadic grass and a looming fortress that Jason somehow knew had been built just that morning. They were getting ready to play Siege, and Centurion Jason was instructing his troops on strategy for the game, but he kept stuttering and messing up.
Names of legionnaires came flooding back to Jason as he looked across the soldiers in his memory, but one stuck out in particular. Michael Kahale was a brand new recruit for the First Cohort and he was clearly paying attention when his commanding officer spoke, because Jason had never been more aware of someone’s eyes on him in his life. He accidentally looked Michael’s way again—dark eyes trained on him, dark hair just long enough to ruffle in the wind—and stumbled over his sentence. Some of the older legionnaires were starting to look concerned. This was incredibly out-of-character for Jason Grace, son of Jupiter, nearly longest-standing member of the legion.
Finally, Jason’s co-Centurion—Gwendolyn, her name was Gwendolyn—took mercy on him and took over the rest of the briefing. After it was done, she’d turned to him with concern.
“Are you feeling okay, Jason?”
Michael Kahale was still looking their way. Jason could feel the heat rise on his face and his heart trip in his chest. He managed some sort of response—the memory was murky—and took off flying to scout the enemy lines. Nobody could look at him up here, concerned colleagues or beautiful boys.
*
He woke up on a bus holding the hand of an objectively pretty girl and the biggest emotion he felt was confusion. He let go of her hand almost immediately, and evaded when she tried to take it back. The entire morning was confusing and he barely knew his own name and these two people that he’d never met before were claiming to be his best friends and all he knew for certain was that he didn’t belong here.
There was a boy along with them on the trip that rubbed Jason the wrong way instantly. He caught and held Jason’s attention. Later, Jason would put it down to battle senses and his instinct knowing a monster before he remembered that monsters existed, but for now…
Dylan was an arrogant jerk with a perfect smile and brilliant teeth. His hair was dark and curly and meticulously styled. He had a lean, athletic build that he wore in a way that made it clear he knew how to use the muscle he had—maybe part of some sports team or another, or maybe just active. Jason probably glared at him for longer than he needed to.
He didn’t care for Dylan a single bit, but still had one standout thought when the monster revealed his true form as a ventus: If angels could be evil, they would look exactly like this. The thought hadn’t struck Jason as strange at the time. He was starting to re-think that.
*
He was on a ship, surrounded by nothing but waves on either side. He faced the crow’s nest, where a boy stood by himself, looking out over the sea. His dark hair and too-big black shirt billowed around him in the wind. The boy was new here, and he was almost always alone. He intrigued Jason; why was he up there? Why had he gone on his quest alone? What motivated him to do something so dangerous? How did he survive?
Jason took a step into the air, and Nico di Angelo turned to look at him. Deep brown eyes flashed in the sunlight and Jason felt some sort of jolt in his gut, something he had written off as nerves about being so close to the son of Hades. The look on his face was guarded, like he expected the worst from Jason’s approach.
And that was the most novel part. Jason didn’t remember much, but he got the feeling he wasn’t used to having to work for someone’s attention and trust. Whether he liked it or not, a son of Jupiter drew the spotlight and the crowd. And yet, here was Nico. Alone. Guarded. Mistrustful.
Jason didn’t quite trust him yet, either, but he wanted to. Loneliness wasn’t unfamiliar to Jason, despite how frequently he was surrounded by people. He could see that same loneliness in Nico. He wanted to break through his guard, to be trusted. He wanted it with a ferocity he wasn’t used to.
It must have been something he was familiar with before his mind wipe, he’d thought at the time. Probably, he just liked making sure everyone on the team felt welcome. He dismissed any strange feelings and thoughts and kept moving, determined to actually hold a conversation this time.
*
“Okay!” Jason fought through the fog of memory, panic constricting his throat and making him too loud. “We’re caught up! I remember these memories now, Lord Cupid.”
LOVE DEMANDS HONESTY, BOY. HONESTY DEMANDS CLARITY. HAVE THESE MEMORIES GIVEN YOU CLARITY?
Jason glanced over at Nico, who turned out to be staring directly at him. His mouth was hanging open just a little bit. Jason snapped his eyes forward once again and had the sneaking suspicion that he wasn’t the only one who had seen that embarrassing movie reel of memories. It was great to know more about himself and his past, but Jason was starting to feel a little too known.
Oh gods, Nico had seen that last one.
Nothing to be done about it now but keep moving. Jason cleared his throat.
“Yes, Lord Cupid. I think I understand what you’re telling me.”
AND HOW WILL YOU EMBRACE THIS HONESTY?
Jason tried not to wince. “I… should probably break up with Piper, shouldn’t I?”
Cupid appeared right in front of him. He was beautiful—maybe not send his wife through harrowing trials because she dared to look upon his face beautiful, but strikingly pretty nonetheless—in a way that felt familiar. He had wavy black hair that reminded Jason of Hadi, and Michael Kahale’s attentive dark eyes, and a build that looked remarkably similar to Evil Dylan’s. Jason couldn’t manage to look at him for very long, and it had nothing to do with Cupid’s godly nature.
“That would be a good start, son of Jupiter.” He held out the scepter for Jason to take.
Nico picked his way toward them as the handoff took place, and Cupid turned his attention to him.
“Don’t think I believe your ruse, son of Hades. I let you off easy this time.”
The look Nico gave him wasn’t a glare, but it walked a razor wire to becoming one. “Your restraint is noted, Lord Cupid. May we go?”
Cupid snorted, obviously dissatisfied with that answer, but let it slide. “Yes, you may go. Remember my lessons, boys.” And in a puff of wind, he was gone. Jason was left alone in the ruins of a Roman palace with Nico di Angelo, who took a few steps closer to him.
That squirming in his gut was back.
Jason stared down at the scepter in his hands. It was longer than he had expected, about three feet of ivory with carvings so worn Jason couldn’t quite make out what they were originally intended to be. Three gold eagles held up a polished black orb that showed a distorted reflection of its surroundings. Jason studied the distended columns and his own warped face in favor of having to look anywhere else.
“That guy was an asshole,” Nico broke the tense silence. The derisive tone of voice and the words themselves were sudden and unexpected enough to startle a laugh out of Jason.
“Yeah,” he agreed, “he really was.” Jason looked at Nico’s reflection in the polished sphere on top of the scepter.
Dark, wavy hair. Big dark eyes. Lean but athletic build. He was shorter than Jason, which most of the other boys in the memory blast hadn’t been, but Jason thought he might actually like that better. And there was something more there, something about his bearing or the way he carried himself—Jason saw him standing alone on deck and he’d felt something resonate inside.
Not the line of thought to go down. He shook his head.
“Thank you for telling me. About yourself, I mean,” Jason clarified when Nico’s reflection in the scepter cocked its head. “That took a lot of courage, and I’m honored you trusted me enough to do it.”
“Yeah, well.” Nico shoved the toe of his boot into the gravel. “Sorry he took away your choice.”
Jason shrugged. “At least I know now.”
“Still,” Nico said.
“Still.” Jason finally looked up. Nico’s dark eyes were on him, as he knew they would be, but they looked almost… considering. Jason felt his face heat. “Back to the ship?” he suggested, holding out his hand.
Nico took it and grinned. His teeth were a little crooked and one of his canines stuck out, sharper than most people’s. The heat on Jason’s face spread to his ears.
“We’re going my way this time.”

SEVEN | NICO
- I like being alone
but I hate being lonely -
Nico woke up in the infirmary in the worst way possible. The 4 hours of sleep he'd gotten had been filled with nightmares and flashbacks of the worst parts of his life. The walls of Tartarus and all of the things that had bruised him down there, both physically and mentally. The claustrophobic walls of being locked up in the jar, Persephone turning him into a dandelion. The last memory of Bianca flashing in front of his eyes, Percy coming back with the statue of Hades, telling him how his sister was gone. The soft eyes of Maria di Angelo looking down at him as they walked through Venice. Camping with Minos along the river Styx and Cupid manipulating him in his cave with Jason. He still hadn't told anyone about that. Jason and himself were the only ones who knew what really happened there.
With gasp Nico sat up straight in the hospital bed. Cold sweat was running down his face and his hair was damp and messy. A few tears ran down his cheeks and he furiously whipped them away with the back of his hand. His breathing was uneven and his throat felt sore. A gentle hand on his shoulder made him jump and Will immediately took it away, looking a bit offended. He offered Nico a glass water which he gladly took and gulped down the cold, calming liquid. Definitely better than liquid fire from the River Phlegethon. He mumbled a weak 'thank you' as Will softly took the empty glass from Nico's hand. The soft thud from the glass made him jump again. Everything felt off. Nico was more tense than usual and he was easily frightened which he definitely usually wasn't.
"You okay, Nico?" Will asked and squatted down beside the bed, resting his arms on top of the mattress. Will's eyes were worried when they met Nico's and judging by the worry in his voice and the wrinkles between his furrowed eyebrows the son of Apollo was very worried.
"I'm fine, Will," Nico snapped at him and turned away. The dark hair hiding his glossy eyes.
"I can see that you're not. You can talk to me, Nico," Will said softly, reaching out to push away the dark hair from Nico's face but he moved out of the way. Will let his hand fall and Nico could sense the disappointment and worry in the air.
"Please... Just, just leave me alone," he stuttered and turned away from Will. He was still wearing Will's too big clothes but Nico didn't have much of a choice. They were comforting and still reminding him that Will wanted to help even if Nico wouldn't let him. The soft material smelled sunshine just like Will and as Nico breathed in the sent he calmed down. The thought of Will's sent calming him down irritated him but couldn't help but feeling a bit graceful for his kind gestures.
"Okay... Tell me if you need anything," Will answered quietly and then he stood up from the floor and walked over to his desk again, leaving Nico to himself. Nico looked up, shocked that he'd done as he asked. Will was stubborn and Nico was shocked that he'd left without so much of one single argument. He shook it off. Nico reached for the glass again only to realize it was already empty. His head was full of things and it made him lose concentration on every little thing and that annoyed him. He was always on point, ready for everything and anything. Now he couldn't even remember how he'd swept down his water just minutes earlier. Nico placed the glass on the table again and when he looked over he saw the drawing of Bianca lying there. Will had given it to him at 5 am and it was the most beautiful drawing Nico's ever seen.
He was thankful for it and would probably even ask Annabeth for a frame for it later, when he got out of here. This was his last day and Will had promised to let him go in the afternoon at 6 pm. Now the clock was standing at almost 9 am so he still had a few hours left here.
"You want anything to eat, di Angelo?" Will asked. He was standing in the door, resting against the doorframe. The sun shone behind him, making him look like he was glowing himself. Nico couldn't say something, his eyes stuck on the son of Apollo. He managed to look away and a faint blush came to his cheeks.
"It would be nice with some fruit or pasta," he mumbled. Will nodded and walked out, leaving Nico alone in the infirmary. The silence gave him time to think clearly again. He'd pushed Will away again. The trust, friendliness and care was okay but when things like this happened, when his past haunted him in his dreams. He couldn't lean on Will with all that. He'd gone through Tartarus alone; he could manage through this alone too.
The sound of the door opening made him cut his thought and meet the gaze of Will Solace. He had brought a plate of pasta and a bowl of fruit to the infirmary. Nico smiled softly. Will placed it all on a small table and placed it beside Nico's bed. Out of habit, Nico jumped back a little to make place for Will on his bed. They'd eaten every meal like this, in Nico's bed facing each other. And Nico enjoyed it. Having this little thing with Will they always seemed to do. Will looked shocked at the gesture though. Nico had pushed him away, not even meeting his eyes honestly. Now he wanted Will to accompany him while they ate. But he still smiled at the gesture and placed himself on the end of Nico's bed.
"Sorry," Nico started and looked down. "I didn't mean to push you away but... it seemed easier that way. To not let you in and have you deal with all the stuff that runs my mind. It's not very pretty, if I do say so."
Will softened and reached out to take Nico's hand in his and this time he didn't pull away. He didn't know why but it felt right.
"It's okay Nico, I understand, I get it. But I want to help you. I want you to know that I'm here for you. No matter what it's about, I'm here. You can talk to me or not talk to me, that's up to you. But I'm here," the blond boy smiled softly and Nico felt a bit more at ease in his chest. The anxiety from his dreams was still there but it seemed to lighten up at Will's words. Once again he had to thank the boy in front of him. He pulled a hand through his dark curls.
"Thank you, Will," Nico pulled his hand from Will's but kept a small smile on his lips. He reached for the pasta Will had brought him and stuck a fork in it. Will shook his head at Nico but smiled with him. The tension in the room eased and Nico seemed quite happy with himself. Another thing to thank Will for, he thought and put the pasta in his mouth with a smile.
