#while the sanctuary is built

I’m starting to feel like it’s a legitimate possibility that Wikie and Keijo will end up as the very first orcas to be transferred to a sea sanctuary. Combine the untimely deaths of Moana and Inouk and a financially troubled park with the blocked transfers to Japan (and the new park has already started taking in whales from other Japanese facilities, so I don’t think they’re waiting for them) and a government that’s eager to offload its cetaceans, and you’ve got the perfect recipe.
I hope it works.

Do you still do fencing competitively Ankiro? What got you into it?

"I guess I'd like to, but I haven't competed in more than a sweep now. I just don't have the time."
"I picked up my grandad's foils as a wriggler and just didn't put them down, I suppose. My teacher was the one who got me into competitions."

"I still get calls from her now and again, trying to drag me back. I haven't seen her since my last competition."

forgive the inaccuracies, idk much about babies <3 ooc/rushed :)
simon w his baby but she has a preference for one parent and it's not him
Tumblr media
simon finally coming back to his safe place, his sanctuary, his home, all but eager to spend some needed time with his family. be had been off to a mission, the last one for a while to make sure that everything was okay. he had already been incredibly reluctant to leave you but now that you both had a baby, it was hard. not a second was spent on the field where images of the pair of you blazed through his mind, almost nearly costing his arm and leg in the process of being too distracted. it had been hell to say the least
but the day finally came, there he was finally on his way back after an intense gruelling month. simon saw you first, bundling you up close in his built arms enjoying your little chuckles that fell from your lips. removing his balaclava as he peppers tender kisses across your cheeks before your lips, his soft smile growing at how happy he was to be back. before he set you back down, eyes scouring about for his bundle of pure joy
"where is she, lovie?? i missed her so much, i got her a little trinket from the place we were deployed in, hope she likes it" he chuckled softly, opening one of his pockets to reveal the gift as he catches his baby on the carpet playing with toys babbling away. his heart was practically bursting at its seams, shedding away his utility vest and his gear to make sure nothing could hurt her before he gently padded his way over. he had different ways the evening would pan out but he hadn't expected this.
he didn't ever expect to be met with a blank stare in return
his heart dropped when he picked his little girl up, she was too busy playing with her favourite toys to even react to him. he hadn't anticipated her looking at him like a stranger. he could've cried with the way she wriggled out of his grasp and wanting to be let down as if he was some enemy. as if instead of being the protector he was now the very thing he swore to keep away from his child, a stranger.
his face like a kicked puppy when he looked at you with pure shock and pain, looking back at the baby who was eagerly crawling back to you having wanting nothing to do with him despite him trying to come closer. you could see all the happiness he previously had practically disappeared from his body, his shoulders deflating with sadness and pain
she couldn't recognise him, she was no longer a daddy's girl
"honey.... sweetheart, it's me, dad. daddy's here. c'mon, c'mere munchkin" he tried to chuckle, kneeling down opening his muscular arms only for her to blink at him and then look back at her toys again
"lovie.... what's going on?" his voice is so soft with hurt and shock looking back to you with huge shining eyes as if he had encountered the worst loss till date. suddenly the mission he had just been on was nothing, the weight of his child preferring you over him was crushing his heart into pieces he didn't think he would come back from. how he'd do any mission 10x over if it meant his child, his treasure would love him again
•••
and it remained that way for the next week, he tried his utmost best but it never seemed to be good enough for her. you tried to console him but he remained dejected, she was always wanting to run back to you. to be comforted by you and to be held by you. every time he tried to tuck her in, his efforts simply proved fruitless. she would cry and cry until you came back in and he watched from the side never feeling like he had failed so hard before in his life.
it hurt more than any of the superficial wounds he ever managed to get in battle, it hurt more than him being on his literal deathbed all those times he was caught in the cross fire. and it only propelled him further into despair when he made the mistake of googling it and realising that this phase may very well last years.
you could see him break with everyday, doubting himself as a father and as a husband. blaming himself and letting the doubt plague his heart and mind. it seemed nothing could comfort him apart from his baby that wanted nothing to do with him. he hadn't managed to hug her at all, he missed being able to snuggle her soft skin for hours. lounging around the home with her cuddled up in one arm as the other gently rubbed on the back of her head soothingly holding her close to his heart. and the thought of never being able to cuddle her without the cries that accompanied it was more than he could bear, it hurt more than anything he had gone through
that was until one night, he was tiredly going to the bathroom and pausing over the nursery. he hadn't meant to but he peeked in and saw her laying in her crib half asleep. her eyes big and brown exactly like his, blinking up slowly at the lieutenant. she was quiet apart from the small sounds she made sucking on the pacifier, a soft bunny in her hand as she peeked back at her father.
"hey baby...." he whispered so softly, he didn't even think she had heard. but her head tilted in curiosity and he chuckled, his hands coming to rest on the walls of the crib. desperately aching to feel her soft skin but too nervous to agitate her
"it's me honey, your dad. i really.... really miss you" he broke off, his heart feeling so heavy as the guilt came barreling in once more. it was his fault that he left her for a month, he shouldn't have been so surprised when he came back and preferred you. you had been there when he couldn't, she developed an attachment with you, not with him
"i'm so sorry to have left you for a month, honey. if i had known- if i thought for a second you'd hate me-" he didn't have the heart to finish the words, the guilt overriding his senses. with a soft sigh, his forehead leaned against his palm for a moment. his own baby didn't like him, he hadn't felt this low in a long time.
he promised he would never raise her in a volatile environment like he had grown up but already he hadn't been any better. he left her knowing for a month, coming back to see her favouring you. and it wasn't easy on both of you, he knew that. he knew he was being irrational but it stung more than any cut, the fact that if he hadn't made the choice to go on the mission that his baby wouldn't be acting so strangely around him.
simon didn't expect anything more tonight, too scared to touch her in case she started crying so he settled for placing the blanket back over her and heading off to bed with a heavy heart. what he didn't expect was the small coo coming from her lips, her tiny fist wrapping up over his index finger. his heart was in his throat, eyes wide at the sight as he looked back to her sweet innocent face again
"me?? you want me?" his voice was so gentle, too scared to speak loud as if this was all a beautiful dream he would wake up from. hesitantly he had reached down, his breath held as his large hands wrapped around his baby so delicately as if she'd shatter beneath his fingertips. slowly sitting down on the rocking chair, the moonlight pouting through the window illuminating her features.
how everyone around claimed she was a carbon copy, how proud he was to call her his daughter. all the moments that they shared running through his mind like a montage and she tilted her small head up at him, a gentle giggle falling from her lips before she rested her weary head against his warm chest. he could've cried and he did, gently but firmly holding her body between his hands. thanking whatever goodness he had done in his life that she was back, his baby was back. and she loved him just like before. she recognised him, she wanted him willingly. it was enough to break him out of whatever funk he had been in, trying desperately not to sob happy tears after a long gruelling two weeks.
you woke up the next morning to see simon laying on the rocking chair, one hand protectively over her small back while the other locked around her little legs as they both slept peacefully. his cheek leaning against her forehead as they cuddled up close on the rocking chair, both making the exact same sleeping face causing you to hide your growing smile and snap a little picture of the tender moment.
she truly was his little mini.

I saw a prompt/ficlet a while ago (I don't remember by who or where) that I'm gonna piggy back off of.
In an attempt to strike a partnership with Wayne Tech., the Fenton's go to Vlad and he gets them invitations to a gala with a solid 'maybe' on meeting Bruce himself.
Naturally, Danny gets bored and decides to push his luck. How much can he get away with before someone gets suspicious? A lot, apparently.
On the bright side, no one in Gotham seems to be able to see through his invisibility.
Long story short, Danny accidentally starts a cult with himself as the object of worship.
Anyway, a few years later and the reveal goes wrong. He flees to Gotham. The ambient ectoplasm in the air, the natural smog, the fact that no one seems to stay dead for long- he'll blend right in. He hopes.
Turns out, since his accidental cult upstart at the gala a few years ago, a building on the border of Crime Alley has been built/repurposed into a church for his followers.
That explains why he keeps getting stat boots.
There's a space in the top of the building that he claims as his home. It becomes his lair, but he still doesn't have a proper haunt.
One night, someone bangs on the doors of the building, waking Danny, and claims sanctuary. Danny opens the locked door (invisible) and beats up the people who barge in after the man. He claimed sanctuary. Danny knows how this Is supposed to work.
Word gets around fast and suddenly, Danny's accidental church has become neutral ground that no one dares try to break.
Batman and Red Hood have conflicting feelings. The building Is neutral, so they can't move anyone in. It also sits directly on the line of Crime Alley and Greater Gotham.
Bruce wants to investigate because something Is in that building that's actually keeping/giving sanctuary.
Jason insists they leave it be because it's not really doing anything to either of them.
These feelings are only amplified when the Joker breaks sanctuary and is beaten and left unconscious on B's doorstep with a note of warning.

Poly moonwater or marauders (up to you! I can see both being cute, though marauders would be interesting since theyre all gryffindors) x a partner who thinks snakes are the cutest, and has a really big python of her own? And she often takes it on “walks” (walking outside while the snake is lounging on her arms to get some sun) or chills in her room with the snake just resting on or beneath her robes (calmer snakes in my experience love to slither up sleeves and wrap around abdomens and collars)? My snake loves doing that, and sometimes it gives people a fright haha. My snake is quite large, but just the cutest and most curious thing, she’s helped many of my friends get over a minor phobia before. She also contracts her muscles (not enough to hurt) when wrapped around a hand, which feels like a little hug. LOL sorry for rambling, I love my sweet baby (5 foot long apex predator) so much. Bonus points if reader is very sweet and smiley, just the last person you’d expect to have a big “scary” snake.
this was such a cute and funny request. and, funnily enough, almost immediately after I received it I started seeing this creator with her snake on TikTok and was like "this is perfect!!!"
poly!marauders x whimsical!reader who apparently has a pet snake that her boyfriends didn't know about
CW: fem!reader, reader has hair she can put up in a bun, best friend Barty being a fucking menace, snakes?
Remus let out a breath of relief when he finally made out your form sitting contently under a tree on the castle grounds with your face shoved in a book.
He couldn’t help but worry about you a little bit; he worried about James and Sirius too, mind you, but something about you struck him as a little too pure, a little too lovely to be navigating this scary world on your own.
He knew you could, he just didn’t think you should have to.
It appeared Sirius and James were just as grateful at locating you when Sirius took off in a run to join your little makeshift picnic.
Remus almost felt bad for the interruption of what was likely a very peaceful sanctuary you had built for yourself. But knowing you, you’d be just as happy to have them join you.
Your smile at Sirius’ form as he made it to your blanket let Remus know he was quite right in his prediction.
“Hi Siri!” You greeted tranquilly, causing James to let out a small breath of awe as he all but dragged Remus the rest of the way over to you.
“Hey Angel!” James called to you as Remus offered you an apologetic smile turned grimace.
“Do you mind if we join you?” Remus had the grace to ask.
“Of course not; I’d love it if you did.” You responded quickly, shifting over to make room for them all on your blanket.
“Of course you’d be so gracious; our sweet girl.” Sirius cooed at you, but as he went to pull you towards him by your shoulders, he let out an embarrassing shriek as he launched himself away from you.
“Godric’s saggy balls, Pads; what is the problem?” James asked bemusedly as he took over Sirius’ now vacated spot beside you.
“She’s got a sodding snake in her hair!” Sirius screeched as he pointed at you.
James’ head whipped back towards you to see that, sure enough, there was a medium sized snake seemingly almost curled up in your messy bun.
“Don’t move, Angel.” James said seriously as he stood carefully and brandished his wand. “I’ll get it off of you.”
“Oh, there’s no need, James. She’s very docile.” You said simply as if you hadn’t just scared the living daylights out of your boyfriends.
“Docile!?” Sirius bellowed at the same time as James questioned “she?”
Remus smirked at his boyfriends’ theatrics, though felt momentarily ashamed he hadn’t realised you owned a snake, or…had a snake friend.
“Is she your pet, dove?” He asked finally, fighting the urge to grimace as the snake curled further around your bun and moved its head to sit at your temple.
“Yes; her name is Tinkerbell.”
“Tinkerbell?!” James and Sirius chorused.
Remus chuckled at the boys letting their Pureblood show. “Like the fairy from Peter Pan?”
He was rewarded with a pleased smile as you moved your eyes back towards him. “Exactly.”
“How long have you been living with a snake?” Sirius asked severely, causing Remus to nudge him with his knee warningly.
“Barty got her for me for my birthday.” You responded simply.
“You’ve had that thing for months?” James asked, finally earning a swat from Remus.
“She’s not a thing, Jamie.” You gently chided, offering the snake your finger who wrapped her head around it reminding Remus of a cat rubbing up against their owner's leg. “I’m surprised you haven’t seen her before; she’s almost always with me.”
Sirius just let out another horrified squawk as Remus fought the urge to let out a full body shiver.
“You carry… Tinkerbell around with you often?” He queried carefully.
You hummed in acknowledgement as your hand fell back to your book. “She usually wraps around my elbow under my robes, but lately she’s enjoyed nesting in my hair. I think maybe now that it’s getting warmer, she likes to sit in the sun.”
“We really need to talk to Junior about gifting our Angel with dangerous animals.” James muttered quietly to Remus and Sirius as your attention turned towards the devil your best friend himself.
“Hi Treasure! Hi Tink!” Barty called you you; his voice raising an octave when greeting your reptilian friend.
Remus winced when he noticed a slightly larger snake hung casually over Juniors shoulders that seemed to be considering the group as they approached.
“Introducing your sweet girl to the boys?” He asked as he sat beside you on the blanket; speaking about your three boyfriends as if they weren’t there.
“Yes. I don’t think it’s gone particularly well, admittedly.” You responded serenely, reaching out to gently boop Barty’s snake’s nose with your finger.
“It’s going fine.” Sirius argued; never willing to show signs of weakness in front of a Slytherin.
Unfortunately for Sirius, Barty seemed to call his bluff. “You’re not afraid of a little old snake, are you Black?”
Sirius scoffed derisively. “I go to school with enough of them, don’t I?”
“Okay, why don’t you pet Mr. Smee here then?” Barty taunted, holding out his large reptilian friend to Sirius. “He won’t bite.” He promised with a Cheshire cat smile.
Sirius looked at Barty sceptically before his eyes nervously darted towards you.
“Mr. Smee is very friendly, Siri.” You encouraged.
Sirius tried to smile at you before he returned his stormy eyes to Barty. “I don’t make it a habit of petting slimy animals, Junior.”
Barty scoffed as he rolled his eyes. “He’s not slimy, Black; he’s scaley.”
Seemingly pacified, Sirius reached out a cautious hand towards Mr. Smee.
Sirius made a garbled heaving sound as he slowly pulled his hand away from the snake's body where strings of slime connected his fingers to the reptile.
“He is slimy!”
“That’s because I soaked him in slime!” Barty cackled. “You’re so easy, Black. Gods, I should spend more time with the lot of you; this was fun.”
And with that, Barty stood from the blanket, kissed Tinkerbell on the head and then pressed one to your head as well before he skipped off.
“He’s a real menace.” James grumbled as Sirius transfigured a piece of paper into a paper towel and wiped at the slime on his fingers.
“I thought that was very brave of you, Sirius.” You praised him, and almost all of the contempt colouring Sirius’ face faded away as he looked at you lovingly.
“Thanks dolly.”
Thankfully, Tinkerbell remained content in your hair, and the boys remained content pretending there wasn’t a snake on their girlfriend’s head for the rest of the afternoon.

It’s okay to need help

Summary: Snapping at your wife was the last thing you wanted to do, but between the pressures of financial disputes you do. You both seek to make things right.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your eyes burned and you weren’t sure if it was from the dim kitchen lighting or the tears prickling inside you.
Papers were messily scattered across the table, their contents a jumbled blur that you couldn’t bring yourself to focus on. Not while your mind was elsewhere—with Wanda.
Wanda who wasn’t sitting with you like she always was when going over expenses, stroking your shoulders to relieve some of the tension, laying her head to rest on you while her lips pressed delicately against your cheek. You missed your wife, by gods you did. But you were stubborn.
Instead of apologizing, you’d gaze over longingly hoping she’d somehow see you—read your mind and spare you just one look, but her attention remained focused on the television, curled into the couch; playing her comfort show.
It drove you crazy how desperately you wanted her to see you, but you knew that wasn’t fair of you to ask.
Arguments with Wanda felt like the ground crumbling beneath your feet, threatening to swallow you whole at any moment. The sight of her tear-stained cheeks tore at your soul, and you hated the way it was your fault. Hurting her was a vow you promised never to make, but relationships wouldn’t be without their faults, no matter how hard one tried.
In those initial months of calling Wanda your wife, every moment felt like peaceful bliss, a love so pure you thought how could loving her possibly be a sin in God’s eyes? Then the bliss turned to ignorance, somewhere along the lines.
Fights became frequent, and crying did too.
And hell, you figured maybe after marriage there wouldn’t be so many. For years, you shared a room in the compound, and you knew each other's routines by heart, you knew Wanda. But in the compound, there weren't any expenses, not like now, now that you were sitting at the kitchen island with an abundance of bills that only seemed to keep stacking up. And up. And up.
Waves of stress fell on your shoulders as you stared, wondering how you got into this financial state. Never had you once felt as useless as you had now and it was only digging into you further, on the verge of crushing the sanctuary you had built with Wanda; that was threatening to crumble, and you knew you couldn’t do this anymore. Not when your heart ached so badly for your wife.
Setting aside your previous frustrations, you pushed your chair out and let the papers fall from your hands, figuring you’d deal with them later. You sucked in a breath, trying to regain some composure but with Wanda? Collecting yourself was pretty impossible.
Crossing the living room you cautiously approached your wife, slowly sitting beside her but still she didn’t turn to acknowledge you. She lay with her back facing you, tucked into a small crimson blanket.
You smiled fondly, recalling how you had gotten the blanket because it reminded you of her, one that she promptly stole, with the excuse of it smelling like you bringing her solace when you weren’t around. The sight of her like this shattered your heart.
With a sigh, you inched closer until you were pressed against her back. When she didn’t tense, you wrapped your arm around her waist, pulling her close. Wanda sighed as you peppered kisses against her skin, first on her cheek and then her neck. The act wasn’t sexual of any kind, but loving lingering ones you knew she loved, needed, and craved after every argument.
Knowing that she preferred your touch, you gave yourself to her, smiling when her fingers interlaced with yours. She still needed you just as much as you needed her.
A beat of silence passed as you relaxed further into each other, and your eyes momentarily strayed away from the TV to shift into a seated position. You knew you had to say something before things got harder.
Before Wanda could question you spoke up:
“I’m sorry Wanda, I never meant for things to get so…heated.” You murmured sincerely, running your fingers through the loose strands of her hair and Wanda sighed.
Leaning against your side, Wanda mimicked your position, bringing her knees to her chest.
She gave you a halfhearted smile. “I’m sorry too, I should’ve come to you first before calling Tony for money this month. I messed up.”
You denied it with your head, bringing her into a warm embrace, and kissing the crown of her head. “No no, you did nothing wrong. Your intentions were good and I shouldn’t have shouted that way. I just…it’s difficult for me, you know?” Your explanation came slowly, averting her gaze, and Wanda gripped your shirt tighter. “I don’t like asking for help.”
The confession fell flat on your lips, leaving a bitter aftertaste in your mouth and you felt silly. But instead of ridicule, you were met with the soft touch of Wanda’s hands, cupping your cheeks as if to reassure your embarrassment. Her thumbs felt good on your skin and slowly coaxed you to look at her.
You opened your mouth to speak but before you got the chance Wanda was bringing your lips together in a slow tender kiss and you sighed. No matter how long you lived you were certain of one thing: you’d never tire of the feeling of Wanda’s lips on yours.
When the need for air became overwhelming, you reluctantly broke the kiss, shivering at her touch. Her forehead resting on yours, breath fanning your lips.
“It’s okay to need help, detka, and we need help.” She affirmed, gently squeezing your hands while stealing kisses between each word till your frown disappeared.
You rolled your eyes affectionately at her actions, not being able to frown anymore and finally pulling her into a longer kiss, something you both craved.
“I’ll talk to Tony tomorrow.” You tell her, and her lips purse in hesitation.
“Dorogaya…if you’re not ready—“
“I’m ready Wanda, I don’t want to be worrying about how much we spend anymore. I want to focus on more important things, like us. I mean you still want kids right?” You asked tentatively and Wanda stifled a laugh at how stiffened you were.
“Yes Y/n, I still want kids with you.” Wanda chuckled softly, shaking her head. “But I’m serious, and kids are far from where we are now. Are you absolutely sure?”
“I’m sure.” You nodded.
Still, Wanda pulled away from you, studying your expression. When she found nothing, she softened, giving you a supportive nod and a big grin. Your smile widened, and you advanced on her the next second earning a squeal, peppering her face with kisses and laughing along with her.
All you could think of was how grateful you were to have a wife like her.
Change was hard but with Wanda, the weight felt easier to carry, and with time you’d learn you wouldn’t have to bear that alone anymore. There were still things you had to fix and you wouldn’t rest until you made things right with your wife but for now, you had a phone call to make. Within weeks you’d be changing jobs and attitudes. Things wouldn’t always be an easy route but you’d sure as hell try harder. For her.

In SICKNESS and in health | Daryl Dixon x Fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*GIF isn't mine*
Summary: Even before you and Daryl got married, he vowed that he would take care of you, no matter what—in sickness and in health. Now, when Daryl returns from a run, burning up, sniffling and coughing, it's your turn to return the favour and take care of him.
Warnings: Mentions of vomiting and swearing, but other than that, fluff!
Era: Alexandria, post Saviour war, pre the building of the bridge.
Word count: 2.8k
A/n: Not me casually dropping a fic after more than a year of nothing lol. Sorry about that :`). I'm also sorry about the crappy writing you're about to read. I'm extremely rusty from not writing in forever. Also, this is my first time writing for Daryl, so I hope I captured his character as accurately as possible.
You hummed quietly to yourself in the kitchen of the small two-story house you and Daryl occupied in Alexandria. After a harsh, intense period of fighting with not only the dead but the Saviours as well, it was nice to have peace in the aftermath. It was a grueling process to rebuild the remains of Alexandria from scratch, but with the help from everyone in the community, as well as from people in other communities as well, Alexandria stood tall once again. With all the houses rebuilt and with additional houses built as well, you and Daryl had opted to claim one of the smaller properties as your own, a sanctuary away from the bustling crowd of Alexandria after an exhausting day.
Chopping up vegetables to add to the soup you were making, you could distinctly hear the unmistakable rumble of your husband's motorcycle, making a small, relieved smile grace your face. A couple of people in Alexandria, including Rick and Daryl, had gone of on a run three days prior and you had been worried sick. It was snowing rather heavily, and when a blizzard passed through the day before, your worry had skyrocketed through the roof. You weren't alone in your worry—Michonne had been worried to death, too—but all you could do was hope for the best. Thankfully, it seemed as if though everyone was okay.
The rumbling of Daryl's motorcycle became louder the closer he got to your shared home. When he parked in the driveway, the rumble abruptly stopped. Turning your attention back to the task at hand while anxiously waiting for Daryl to walk through the front door, you chopped up the last of the vegetables and added it to the soup you were preparing—chicken noodle soup—and made sure to season it accordingly. It was one of your favourite dishes and you were craving it, especially with the cold weather that bestowed itself upon the world.
The front door opened with a faint creak, notifying you of Daryl's arrival. After wiping your hands on a rag, you moved out of the kitchen and towards the living room where the front door was located. There, you found Daryl slowly shedding his coat. His eyebrows were furrowed together and his eyes were shut. When he heard your footsteps, he opened his eyes and looked up at you, giving you a small, tired smile.
"Hey. Yer still up?" He greeted quietly. He draped his coat over the back of one of the couches and moved towards you, embracing you in a loving hug. He rested his head in the crook of your neck, and you swore you could hear faint sniffling.
You returned the hug instantly, resting your head against his chest and listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. "Yeah, I couldn't sleep. I was worried about you."
"'M sorry. We woulda gotten back a lot sooner, but the damn blizzard had us trapped. We had to camp out in one'a the houses on the road back."
"It's okay," you reassured, your arms around him slightly tightening. "I'm just glad your okay."
Daryl hummed and the two of you fell into a comfortable silence, neither one of you breaking the hug. The only sound that could be heard was from the fire crackling in the fireplace behind you. However, after a few seconds, you could hear a few faint sniffles coming from the archer. Frowning, you withdrew slightly, looking up at Daryl in concern.
"Dar... Are you okay?" You asked, your tone perfectly voicing the concern you felt for your significant other.
"Yeah, 'm fine. 'M jus' tired," he said, trying to assure you. However, you weren't buying it, and he knew it. Before you could voice your protest, Daryl quickly pulled away from the hug and stepped back. He brought his face to his elbow and erupted into a coughing fit, his chest heaving.
"You don't seem fine," you countered his previous statement after his coughing stopped, taking a tentative step forward. Your eyebrows were pulled together in concern.
"Nah, 'm fine. Jus' got somethin' in my throat, is all," he said, trying his best to keep his face neutral. His attempts proved to be futile, however, when he sneezed into his elbow and the sneeze was shortly followed by another rampage of brutal coughs.
You walked up to your husband and took his hand in yours, prompting him to look at you. Raising one of your hands to his forehead, you weren't completely surprised when you felt a scorching hotness beneath your palm. Daryl felt like a furnace, and you were a little surprised that you hadn't realised it sooner. He had just come into the house after being out in the icy cold weather for three days, but instead of feeling cold, Daryl had felt warm—warmer than usual.
"Baby," you whispered, raising your hands to gently cup his cheeks. Your frown deepened, your concern for your husband not fading. "You aren't fine. You're burning up."
Daryl sighed. He closed his eyes and leaned into your soft touch, enjoying the coolness of your hands. "'M fine. Ya dun' need to worry 'bout me. I'll live," he mumbled stubbornly.
"Daryl," you started, your tone stern but gentle. "You're not fine. I can see that much. Why don't you go upstairs and take a shower? I'll be right up."
Daryl opened his eyes and gave you a crooked smile. "I have a feelin' tha' ya ain't about to take 'no' for an answer."
You smiled at him and gave him a quick peck on his cheek. "Your feeling would be correct. Go on. I'll join you in a few minutes."
"Yes, ma'am," Daryl responded, withdrawing from your touch and turning to descend up the stairs.
You turned around and headed to the kitchen. From upstairs, you could faintly hear the shower running, and you felt relieved that Daryl was heeding your advice and showering. After rummaging through the cabinets, you finally found a bottle of Tylenol. Setting it down on the counter, you turned towards the cabinets again and took a glass from one of the shelves. After filling it up with water, you walked over to the stove and stirred the soup, tasting it after a couple of minutes to ensure it was ready. After retrieving a bowl and a spoon, you filled the bowl up with the soup and placed the bowl on a tray, as well as the water and the bottle of Tylenol.
You carefully and slowly descended up the stairs to ensure that not a drop of soup was wasted. Successfully reaching the top with no complications, you turned towards your and Daryl's shared room and pushed the door open. After putting the tray down on Daryl's bedside table, you could hear the shower shut off and the distinct shuffling of Daryl getting dressed.
You sat on the bed and waited patiently for your husband to join you in your shared quarters. After a few minutes Daryl finally came into the room, clad in a loose fitting shirt and flannel pants. Now that he was cleaned up, you could practically see how sick he really was. He looked pale and his eyebrows were scrunched together, signalling that he was, without a doubt, suffering from an intense migraine.
You got up from your seated position on the bed and walked over to him. He offered you a small, weak smile and you returned the gesture. Taking his hands in yours, you slowly started tugging Daryl along with you to the bed. You gently pushed him to sit on the bed, and he complied, but not without protest.
"Yer doin' too much fer me. Ya dun' have to, y'know? I'll be alrigh'," Daryl protested, laying his head back against the wooden headboard.
"I know I don't have to, but I want to. You're always taking care of others, me most of all, so let me take care of you."
Daryl grumbled something under his breath and sighed, but nevertheless, nodded slightly. He covered himself with the blankets and carefully watched you through half lidded. His eyes widened slightly in delight when you lifted the bowl of soup from the tray and delicately placed it in his lap. You sat on the edge of the bed next to him and gave him an expectant look.
"Eat up. I didn't make this for love and charity, you know," you joked, bringing a hand up to brush Daryl's wet hair back from his eyes, giving you a better view of the ocean coloured eyes you loved to get lost in.
"Wha' 'bout ya? Ain't ya gonna eat, too?"
You chuckled quietly and looked lovingly at your husband. "Always taking care of me, huh?"
"Ain't ever gonna stop," Daryl agreed, looking at you with an intense gaze that portrayed more than words ever could.
"I'll eat later," you promised, gently caressing the side of Daryl's face before retracting your hand again. "I wanna take care of you first. Make sure you're comfortable, fed and resting, then I'll eat something."
Daryl only stared at you for a few lingering moments before reluctantly bringing a spoonful of the soup to his mouth. He hummed in approval after the first bite. "This shit's good."
You laughed lightly and shook your head. Standing up, you headed to the bathroom and grabbed a cloth. After wetting the fabric and wringing it of excess water, you walked back into the room and saw Daryl silently and dutifully devouring the soup. When you drew nearer, you were surprised to note that the bowl was nearly empty.
Daryl looked up at you and noted your surprised look. He gave you a sheepish smile and looked down, his face flushing. "I didn't realise how hungry I was. Sorry."
After his statement, another force of coughs wracked through Daryl's body. When he calmed down, you sat back down on the bed next to him. You leaned forward and gently placed the cloth over his forehead, eliciting a small sigh of relief from the archer. "What are you apologising for? For enjoying my food?  Believe me, I'm glad you're enjoying it and can actually stomach it. Usually when I get sick, anything that goes down comes back up in a matter of minutes."
"Tha's disgustin'," Daryl drawled, scrunching his nose in a way that you found absolutely adorable.
"I never said it was pleasant," you laughed, taking the empty bowl from him and placing it back down on the tray. You substituted the bowl for the glass of water and handed it to him, as well as two pills that you took from the bottle.
"And this?" Daryl prompted, hesitantly accepting the pills from you.
"It's Tylenol. It'll help with that fever of yours," you explained. You watched as Daryl popped the pills in his mouth and swallowed it down with huge gulps of water. When the glass was empty, you took it from him and placed it down on the tray. "I'll talk to Siddiq tomorrow and see if he has anything for that cough of yours. Your voice has been sounding scratchy and I don't want you to lose it completely."
Daryl furrowed his eyebrows. However, before he could voice his protest, you quickly cut him off. "No, none of that. I'm talking to Siddiq, and that's final. I'm also seeing if Aaron would be up for taking your place on runs until your better, and I better not be hearing any protest from you whatsoever on the matter, Dixon. I'm only letting you out of this house when I know for a fact that you're not sick anymore."
Daryl only shook his head. He attempted to keep his face neutral, but the faint smile on his face betrayed his true emotions. He sighed before moving his body to lay down, keeping the damp cloth over his forehead. He shut his eyes and covered it with his arm.
"Alrigh', if tha's Doctor Dixon's orders," Daryl whispered, his tone playful.
You laughed. "It is."
You moved to stand up and grab the tray, but Daryl's hand suddenly grabbing yours halted you in your tracks. You turned to look at him and saw his eyes now trained on you. He seemed hesitant to ask you something, and it put you on edge.
"You okay?" You asked, running your thumb over his knuckles.
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm alrigh', 's jus'..." He inhaled deeply and averted his eyes, seemingly ashamed of himself for the question he was about to ask. "Would ya maybe stay with me? I mean, 's late anyway and ya need to sleep, too."
The tray on the bedside table was instantly forgotten. You smiled gently and brought your husband's hand up to your lips, pressing a feathery light kiss on his knuckles. "Of course I'll stay with you. You didn't even need to ask."
You walked over to your side of the bed and layed down. Daryl covered you with the blankets and then proceeded to peel the cloth from his forehead, carelessly tossing it to the side, somewhere on the ground. The two of you silently layed side by side for a couple of moments until you lightly patted your chest.
"Come here, I'll hold you."
Daryl scoffed slightly, his cheeks flushing, but complied, turning his body to lay his head down on your chest. You slotted your legs between his and slightly adjusted your body until you were comfortable. The archer wound his arms around your midsection and you brought your arms around his shoulders, holding him tightly to your chest.
"Comfortable?" You whispered, running one of your hands through his hair, softly scratching his scalp as you went.
"Mhm," Daryl hummed, pressing his face deeper into your chest. He quietly sighed in content, the steady rhythm of your heartbeat and the soft scratching of his scalp slowly lulling him into slumber.
For the next few minutes, the both of you layed there in a content silence. You continuously dragged your fingers through his hair in a gentle manner, and your other hand was lightly tracing the lengths of his arm. The silence was only broken by Daryl when he slightly lifted his head to look at you, his eyes heavy with sleep, but filled with an undeniable love for you.
"I love ya," he whispered quietly, making your heart flutter and a loving smile grace your face.
It was quite uncommon for Daryl to utter those three words first. Not because he didn't love you, but because he wasn't good with expressing his emotions the way people normally would. Because of that, he showed his love to you through actions, and you were perfectly okay with being the one to say 'I love you' to him first most of the time, but when he did express those three words to you verbally without you saying it first, it always made your heart swell with adoration and love.
You pressed a gentle, soft kiss to his forehead. "I love you more."
That made Daryl scoff and bury his head into your chest again. "Nah, tha' ain't true at all."
Choosing not to argue with your husband, you simply chuckled and resumed your previous activity of treading your fingers through his hair. Not long after, you saw Daryl's breathing slow down and steady into a slow rhythm, notifying you of his slumbering state. You smiled at him and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. You settled back onto the bed and rested your chin on top of Daryl's head, making yourself more comfortable. The soft sounds of Daryl's breathing beckoned you into slumber as well, and you closed your eyes, allowing yourself to succumb to the comforting confines of sleep.
Goodnight, love, you thought, finally falling asleep, Daryl tight in your embrace with no intention from you of letting him go.

Share your pain.
Request: From anon “Hiiii would you write reader saying something hurtful to az during an argument (established relationship btw)??? And az gets upset over it but they later make up and it ends in fluff? I'm sorry I'm obsessed with hurt/comfort 😔”
Pairing: azriel x reader
Word count: 2.3K
Warings: Angst, nightmares…I think that’s it. Let me know if I’ve missed anything.
Summary: In the wake of a heated argument, you and Azriel find yourselves adrift, the once unbreakable bond strained... :(
A/n: hi again, hope you enjoy this. First time I’ve written a bit of angst for Azriel. Let me know what you all think! <3 - L
Tumblr media
The air in your bedroom hung heavy, the usual sanctuary of rest and reprieve now echoing with the bitter remnants of a lovers' quarrel. You hadn’t meant for things to get this tense, but as the moon cast long shadows across your bedroom, there was no denying the unresolved tension between Azriel and you.
The first six months of your mating had been a whirlwind of passion and frenzy, a time you fondly recalled. The initial intensity of the bond was like a wildfire, consuming everything in its path. You had known Azriel more intimately than anyone else, or so you thought.
Yet, as the months rolled on, the veneer of your relationship began to crack. Despite the depth of your bond, Azriel remained an enigma, his troubles hidden beneath layers you couldn't penetrate. Initially, this mystery was part of the intrigue you loved about him. But as the struggles of the war haunted him, manifesting in nightmares that would leave him thrashing in the solitude of his own battles, the barriers between you grew thicker.
This particular night had been no different. Azriel, caught in the clutches of a haunting dream, had awoken hot and thrashing.
"Az… let me help you" you whispered, reaching out with a tenderness only a mate could offer.
But he pulled away. Recoiling from your touch and standing by the side of the bed. He erected an invisible barrier, refusing the solace you offered and, as always, shutting you off from the bond.
The rejection hurt.
At times, he would freeze over, pulling a wall up so high to stop his feelings from spilling over to yours. Initially, you assumed it was to spare you the pain he felt, but with time, it began to feel like mistrust.
"Please, Azriel," you pleaded, the use of his full name an attempt to bridge the growing chasm between you. "Don't shut me out."
"Y/n…Don't" he bit back sharply, a flash of frustration in his eyes. The lump in your throat grew, emotions simmering beneath the surface. You were on your feet now too, flimsy night shorts and a vest hanging loosely on your frame, while the air around you turned cold. Any remaining shadows that had been soothing your skin fled to their master to comfort him.
"Is this how it's going to be, then?" you asked, your voice strained with the weight of unspoken grievances.
This was never how you imagined having a mate would be like.
Cold and lonely.
Your fingers played with the bottom hem of your sleep shorts while trying to muster through your feelings. Trying to keep calm, find the right words to soothe your partner, but no matter what you did or said, it never worked, and you began to doubt if you were the person he even wanted to find comfort in.
Your chest seized, a pang of hurt rolling through. You had hoped Azriel could feel the anguish he was putting you through, but of course, that ice wall was built up. It not only stopped you from seeing into him, but it rejected any connection from you too.
You had been suppressing your own needs and feelings for far too long, prioritising his pain over your own. You could feel the anger begging to spill over your edges.
“We might as well not be mates..” you choked out.
A gasp left Azriel’s lips as he said your name, disbelief clouding his expression at such a notion.
You knew it was a cruel thing to say.
Azriel had been waiting for this type of connection all his life. He had told you that you were worth the centuries of waiting. And even though you knew he loved you dearly, and his intentions were never malicious, he was hurting you.
Selfishly, you wanted to hurt him back.
“Maybe you’re better off alone with your shadows” you bit out spitefully.
His gaze shattered, a flicker of pain mirroring your own. As if the mere mention of his shadows had drained the strength from him, they slumped in a rare display of vulnerability. Before he could utter another word, unable to bear the weight of your words, you stormed out of your bedroom, and out of the House of Wind.
~~~
Days passed in an agonising blur, the weight of your words lingering in the air like a heavy stormcloud. That night, you had winnowed away to a friend's apartment in the city, seeking refuge far from the House of Wind. Leaving those walls behind offered a semblance of peace, though you remained unsure of how to navigate this situation under the prying eyes of the Inner Circle.
Your friends were always lovely, but it was hard to escape the fact that they were Azriel's friends first. Azriel’s family.
Lily, an old study companion, opened her home to you without hesitation, setting up her spare room and insisting you stay as long as needed. In moments like these, you regretted letting go of your own apartment. In the frenzy of the mating bond, you had moved in with Azriel, opting for proximity to his friends and his high lord's court.
The morning after the fight, Azriel had sent a ripple down the bond.
"Can we talk, love?"
You instantly rejected his call, erecting your own emotional barrier around the bond. The irony wasn't lost on you – you were now doing the very thing that hurt you, mirroring Azriel's tendency to shut you off.
Perhaps a taste of his own medicine was warranted?
You had been an open book for him, laying your wounds and traumas bare. Despite the difficulty of discussing certain matters, you wanted Azriel to know every part of you.
Yet, here you were, mimicking his defensive actions.
Azriel could probably find you if he wished. As the Spymaster of the Night Court, he likely knew your location without relying on the bond. Although he had never visited Lily's place, you were sure his shadows had scoured the city for you as soon as you left that night.
You missed them. His little minions, you would call them as a way to tease him. Always at his beck and call, and quick to caress you, much like his own touches
A pang of guilt washed over you as you recalled his expression before you left.
"Maybe you're better off alone with your shadows."
It had been a petty, low blow from you. Azriel had confided in the past that he once worried it would only ever be him and his shadows, that he was somehow cursed to not find love, companionship, a life partner.
A soft rap at the door interrupted your thoughts. You had secluded yourself in Lily's apartment for four days now, ignoring any attempts from Rhysand to contact you mentally.
“Y/n…It’s me” the soft female voice spoke behind the door. Feyre.
You invited your friend in. Quickly popping the kettle on and making you both tea. You sank into the plush sofa next to Feyre, bringing your teacups to the coffee table in front of you as you both idled in general chit chat.
“How is Rhys? …and everyone?” You asked. You hadn’t realised till not being there how much the inner circle had become integrated into your life. Your days often spent with laughter over meals, mornings spent sparring with Cassain and your afternoons filled with fun company of the girls.
And of course the nights, spent all consumed with your mate.
“Everyone is good” Feyre spoke, her smile dropping at the edges “Well not everyone” she spoke honestly. Feyre gently guided the conversation toward the true reason for her visit.
"I'm sure you know why I'm here," she said, her eyes filled with a mixture of understanding and concern.
"Did Azriel send you to check on me?" you asked, a hint of scepticism in your voice.
Feyre's hurt was palpable. "Y/N, I came here to check on you. I’ve been worried about you. We all have.” Your own gaze softened, embarrassed at the harsh assumption you had made.
“But I would be lying if I didn't say I didn't come partially because of Azriel. I'm worried about him too. He's not acting like himself, not sleeping, not eating, avoiding us all…even Rhys and Cassian."
Your heart hurt. The bond aching at the news of your mate suffering.
"I know you want to punish him," Feyre added gently.
"I don't want to punish him," you replied, though a part of you realised that, in a way, you were. Hurting him the exact same way he had hurt you.
Feyre sighed, her gaze never leaving yours. "I get it, trust me I do. But just come home, please" she pleaded.
You sat as you recalled what she had said. Perhaps it was time.
~~~
You waited for Rhysand to dispatch Azriel on a task before returning, unsure if you were ready to face him immediately. Feyre had kept you informed, grateful for her assistance in navigating this delicate situation.
Avoiding your shared bedroom, the space now haunted by the memories of your recent argument – you sought refuge on one of the balconies overlooking the city. The night had descended, casting the realm below into a humming sea of lights beneath the purple midnight sky.
Perched on a comfortable lounge chair, a blanket draped around you, you found solace in a book you had forgotten about. Left untouched when you departed, was laid waiting on the bedside table for you when you returned. In fact the entire bedroom looked untouched, the bedsheets had not been warmed for a while.
He’s not been sleeping. You remembered Feyre’s words from earlier, the realisation breaking you a little at your mates pain.
Deciding it was time to address the tension that lingered between you and Azriel, you closed the book and set it aside. Breaking down the emotional barrier hastily erected around the bond, you sent a gentle ripple through the thread – a subtle breath to signal your readiness to talk.
Hoping Azriel had concluded whatever task had taken him away, you pondered on the fact that, even without the ripple, he would likely sense your return. His keen senses, coupled with the vigilance of his shadows and network of spies, made you a detectable presence. You understood your mate well enough to know though that he wouldn't intrude if you needed space.
The ripple was your invitation, an indication that you were ready to see him.
The first sign of his return was the wind, a gentle breeze brushing across your face as Azriel's wings beat the air upon his descent. Looking up, you caught your breath at the sight of your godly partner. It took a conscious effort to regain your composure, resisting the urge to succumb to the overwhelming emotions stirred by his presence.
“My love…” he breathed. He looked tired, dark circles under his eyes and a ruggedness that was unusual for him.
“Azriel,” you spoke his full name, tilting your head to encourage him to join you on the lounge chair. Instead, he stepped forward, dropping to his knees in front of you.
Cauldron give me strength; he was so painstakingly beautiful.
His large hands found your lap, yours naturally finding his fingers, tracing the harsh lines that covered them.
"I've been giving this a lot of thought," he began, his voice a low murmur. "I never meant to shut you out, Y/N. I’m so sorry”
You nodded, your eyes settling on his hazel gaze. Letting your mate speak his truth, his own self-reflections.
“It’s just always been me. Me and my shadows,” he smiled, glancing over to the little grey flurries that were now tangled up in your hair. “So when I finally met you, got you…I was scared,” he admitted. “Scared, my demons might repulse you, terrify you, make you leave me. It was... instinct. To protect myself."
Your gaze softened, the realisation settling in that the barrier Azriel erected wasn't out of a lack of trust, but rather a reflex born from deep-seated pain.
"Azriel," you spoke gently, "I don't want to dictate how you deal with your trauma.” Your hand moved to his face now, thumb rubbing his cheek gently. He breathed in at your touch, closing his eyes at the intimacy he had missed for days. “But I need you to trust in us, in me. Let me share the burden, even if it's just a fraction."
Azriel's shoulders sagged, a mixture of relief and regret evident in his eyes. "I want to, Y/N."
"I understand it won't happen overnight. I just need you to believe that I'm here, that you don't have to carry everything on your own."
The vulnerability in your words mirrored Azriel's, creating a fragile bridge between you. His shadows, attuned to the subtleties of emotion, responded by weaving gently around you.
"I'm sorry for the things I said," you admitted, humility colouring your voice. "I never should have pushed you like that. It's not my place to demand you share those things with me."
Azriel shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. "No, you're right. I need to change, to let you in more. It's just hard, but I'm willing to try."
A shared understanding passed between you, a silent pact to navigate the complexities of healing together.
"Let's start fresh," he proposed, sincerity in his eyes.
You nodded with a gentle smile on your face. The mating bond buzzed. Azriel leaned over, his lips pressing against yours in a not-so-subtle, hungry kiss.
“Now come here” He growled with a teasing grin, you screamed lightly as he pulled you into his arms as he stood. He looked at you with a feral glint in his eyes.
We have some catching up to do, my love.

Pairing: Cooper Howard/The Ghoul x Fem Reader
........................
Description: Cooper Howard was not a kind man, he cared for nobody, but himself. Then he found you, a lost little dove, barefoot and crying, torn dress and big innocent eyes staring at him like he was a hero. He knew you’d be a burden, he knew you couldn’t survive in the wasteland, he was doing you a favor.
But he couldn’t pull the fucking trigger...
........................
[5.8k words] [Blood and Injury, Ghoul trafficking]

Chapter 7 "The Road"
“She asked you a question.” the tip of his gun bumps against the skull of the poor man in angry sovereignty. “Not nice t’ keep a lady waitin’.”
The man in question is a scrawny fellow with yellowish, vein-ridden eyes and greasy black hair just shy of his shoulders. A sunbaked, chewed-out lab coat adorns his shriveled form, hiding a multitude of self-inflicted scabs and prickles, but you’d caught a glimpse during his scuffle with Cooper. A self-proclaimed doctor who’d used his own flesh and blood in the name of science and study, he looked nothing short of deranged, but he’d survived until the ripe age of sixty-two and that was enough solid ground for you to trust his expertise.
You sat opposite of him, occupying a wide, crummy slab of concrete that had once been the roof of his laboratory. The entire building was waning, descended to a few walls surrounded by a rusting fence, but it offered enough shelter for most wastelanders to deem habitable. That’s why you’d stopped by, having endured your second month of surface exploration during what you’d learned was the middle of summer, you’d built higher tolerance for the hostile environment, but still couldn’t compare to Cooper. You’d needed respite, to catch your breath under a shade while greedily gulping down lukewarm spring water.
The doctor had heard your intrusion upon his sanctuary and had been more than hospitable, shoving grimy bottles full of murky substances of different consistencies in your face to get you to buy something. When he’d announced that he was a representative of the medicinal sphere another idea had popped into your head, one that required more talking and less buying diluted piss in a corked test tube labeled “Acne Remover”.
He could teach you medicine. The basics, at least, ways to patch up a wound using primitive things you had on hand, and you’d read such books before, but none of them touched on radioactivity nor explained what RadAway or stimpaks were.
The ghoul had been surprisingly agreeable, however, before you could discuss a plan, he’d taken to his ways and was already rasping threats while cracking his knuckles. You’d thrown your hands in the air with a displeased eye-roll as their tussle heated the dust off the floor.
It’s always violence with him…
“A stimpak? I can. Of course, I can.” the doc hacks and spits a mixture of blood and saliva to the side, then turns back to you with a wet snort. “It’s easy. Anyone can make a stimpak. Anyone. Who can’t? It’s so easy.”
“Great.” you nod, gripping your pencil with such force it’s shy from snapping. This was not what you’d had in mind by exchanging information – no guns or violence and absolutely no blood. But your fiendish companion had other ideas and beggars weren’t choosers. You lick your thumb and turn your notebook to a fresh page. “Please explain then. Slowly.”
The owlish look you receive has you eyeing Cooper with a lost frown, a plea for guidance because this man was clearly out of it with no intent on returning to normalcy.
He’s the heavy hand to your soft words as always.
“Talk.” he snarls and digs his boot in the doctor’s ribs, kicking him off his knees and onto his side. There’s no discussion, no bargaining, just a built-in cruelty and lack of patience.
“Jeez, you didn’t have to – ” you scrunch back in abhorrence, reaching for your face as if you were the one taking the beating.
“ – My notes.” a gargled sputter comes from the wheezing man. He laughs, rotting teeth proud on display as he knocks on the side of his head with such force you heard it from where you sat. “Head’s not good. Can’t remember anything. Gotta see my notes. It’s in the notes.” his spastic gaze is bouncing between you and the ghoul. “I can get 'em. Right there.” he’s jutting a finger up at his workstation where a gnawed-out leather bag rests. “Gonna get 'em. Tell you how. Okay? Gonna get up, gonna get 'em.”
He’s motioning for peace with palms spread wide as he slowly rises. The pistol follows him with cold-blooded precision as he wobbles to his desk. You turn halfway to watch as the notepad rests on your thigh, then tuck a wild strand of hair behind your ear.
He sifts through his belongings and it’s not much, but he’s sustained himself so far with the scarce scraps he’d managed to find. Meanwhile, your backpack was still brimming two months later because you had the trinkets to trade for food and water. You had a bodyguard for free and the luxury to indulge in hygienic habits most commoners didn’t see even on their deathbeds.
Bearing a soft heart, you wanted to leave him at least a granola bar, a guaranteed meal with no strings attached so the upcoming night wouldn’t leave him convulsing in a corner from hunger. He was skin and bones at best, a walking skeleton with cracking, aged skin, and protuberant wild eyes, the kind that have seen too much.
But you knew better, rather he starve and struggle than you ending up facing the ghoul’s wrath for acting stupid again. There was no room for kindness here, there would be no praises, just you naively reaching out a helping hand and ultimately having it bitten.
God, you hated this mess of a world…
“Here! Here, here.” he exclaims through a scratchy throat and shows you a torn, brown folder stuffed with sheets of paper. He digs his nose into it, stubby, arthritis-ridden fingers roughly handling the pages like a manic man searching for the meaning of life between the words. “It’s here. Has to be. I wrote it, y’know. All by myself.”
A sharp whistle rings in your ears and your head snaps back to Cooper. He nudges his pistol toward the folder and cocks his head with a scowl.
“Take em.”
You’re taken aback. Your face falls and you glance at the madman behind you with a slack jaw – he’s pressed into his workstation, the folder held snugly to his chest and encased in his frail arms. His hair sways as he stiffly shakes his head with disbelief.
“No.” you breathe out, a voiced thought, then repeat with more authority. “No! I can’t take his notes, how will he work without them?” you’re gesturing towards him with pencil in hand and direness to your voice. “Look at him! He can’t even remember his own name. We can’t just – ”
“ – I ain’t sittin’ here all day just cuz you wanna play Broken Telephone with a con bastard.” he’s a harsh mentor, doesn’t bat an eye at the implication or the devastation his order might cause. The rim of his hat dips, painting menacing shadows over his already monstrous features. “Take the damn notes.”
There’s no equal ground for arguing and the doctor stands there, forced to watch as his life is put on an uneven scale. Either shot or left to wither away without his only source of income, he couldn’t even choose, he was left to be toiled between your hands and the ghoul’s.
You’re bubbling with righteousness, but that won’t do. There are many things your companion dislikes and for unexplained reasons, standing up to him while trying to do the right thing is one of them.
“Please.” the plea leaves your lips as a hiss. Your face is wrinkled with exertion as you attempt to stare Cooper down to a more agreeable state.
You’re grasping at straws, fighting not to drown in the reality of your actions being the cause of another person’s death. This was no raider, or cannibal, not a warped beast hunting you for supper. This was a fellow survivor, a struggling soul the wasteland hadn’t been as lenient towards. Beneath the delirium and madness, the jumbled words and soup of senseless thoughts, he was still human.
You couldn’t. You couldn’t.
“Was your idea, Sweetheart.” a derogatory coo, a sentence that rips up your act of chivalry. He’s almost smirking as he puts you down with just his gaze. “Gotta finish what you started. Now take the fuckin’ notes.”
Impatience nips at his command, only amplified when he sees you refuse to move. His weapon lowers and he takes a few strides with a searing grunt and bared fangs. He’s no gentleman; picks you up roughly by the arm and forces you to your feet as disapproval of your disobedience brings forth his crow’s feet. There is no grace when you’re non-consensually pushed toward your victim, no elegance guides your step to ease the mourning of the man you’re about to strip from any chance of long-term survival.
But you’re also meek with your gestures, approaching him delicately once your footing is set in stone, hesitantly until there is only a thin gap separating you.
His leg juts to the side with barely contained need to run and he once again winds up at gunpoint.
“Don’ be fuckin’ stupid now.” the ghoul spits as his chin dips, he’s peeking beneath his hat with eyes that could boil flesh off bone.
Regret drains the strength from your fingers when you pinch the bottom of the folder, left to weakly tug it out of his grip as he begrudgingly relents. Your vision is set low, trained on your feet, scorned by actions you couldn’t back away from. You take his prized possession and look away until not a blip of him poisons your vision, then after swallowing nothingness down a dry gullet you manage to mumble:
“I’m sorry.”
You skitter back to Cooper, each step hastening your pace until you’re in the sanctity of his proximity. You don’t falter to see his nod of approval, instead hiding behind him, the side of your head leaned between his shoulder blades. Pathetic, powerless, and made cruel, your brows twitch, pulling down the skin of your sweaty forehead as you clutch at the folder with a distant mind and quivering bottom lip.
You leap a thousand miles away, condemned to weigh the doctor's odds and spare your sanity the burden of his demise. There were always radroaches scuttling about, he could live off them. They weren’t your cup of tea but they were edible. If he was smart enough he could gather sand and pebbles, make a filter and cleanse his urine to a drinkable consistency. It wasn’t that hard, he could survive if he wanted to. Maybe he could…
Maybe –
The familiar click of a pistol rattles you out of the dreamlike state.
You tense.
“Wait.” your hand shoots out to lay over his wrist, applying a minute amount of pressure to stray the firearm. “We got what we needed, right? You don’t need to…Please?” your voice cracks and your beseeched eyes lift to face his. “Please.”
The doctor hasn’t moved, frozen solid and silent aside from the low, bizarre hums and attempts to cough out the gunk tickling his lungs. He was sick and mad, defenseless against a loaded gun, compliant with your inhumane deeds, hadn’t said a peep of protest. The least you could do was leave him be after ripping away the little dignity he’d had.
Your way is brutal though, leaving a helpless old man to be overcome by a death worse than a bullet to the head. But you weren’t one to make a tough decision in a dire situation, you didn’t have the guts to do what would be considered a mercy. His chances were null and shooting him now would save him a great amount of suffering. You could walk out and wait for the shot to ring out, turn a deaf ear to the shriek of oblivion.
But you weren’t doing what was best for him, you were doing what was least painful for you.
Masking your selfish spinelessness as a courageous act of standing up to your dominant half to spare a soul. This was no heroism, it was torture. You’d seen firsthand how sadistic fate was in this dystopian world you now called home, but what could you do when the sight of him had you near tears?
Cooper lowers his pistol with a disgruntled scoff and you release a shaky breath.
“Whatever you say…” he clasps his weapon back in place and flings both his bandolier and tato sack over his shoulder.
It was suspiciously easy, but you didn’t question his change of heart, instead keeping close to him after shooting the deranged doctor a last apologetic frown.
He’d been with you since you’d left the vault, acting as the spear to your shield, the one to take action while you sat back and prayed for the best. You were still as friendly and ready to lend a helping hand as when you’d met and if it hadn’t been for him you would have been long gone by now. The wasteland was working on remolding your antics, but it was a slow process in your case and until then it spelled hardships and disaster for both of you.
Actions have consequences, bad ones, good ones, all of them. He’s tried and failed to teach you so he decides a harsher lesson is in order, one that will stick. That’s why he ignores the shuffling behind him and keeps a heavy-lidded neutral expression.
Actions have consequences and yours is being swung straight towards your head.
The bits of gravel crunching beneath your boots keep your hearing busy enough to miss the vigorous grunts and noises being regurgitated some feet away from you. It’s inconceivable that the person to whom you showed mercy would do anything to cause you harm. His uncoordinated, rushed steps don’t even register until they’re thumping right behind you.
You’re a second too late to react before the empty glass bottle is shattered against the side of your head.
All you muster out is a choked gasp as the ground beneath you slips and you’re falling. The world spins with sickening speed yet your fall is delayed, like a swaying feather.
You don’t feel. You feel nothing below your neck.
Your stomach churns as everything is flipped upside down. The folder is snatched from the safety of your armpit. You’re numb when you collide with the dusty concrete, feel only a cushioned resistance from an impact that’s supposed to hurt.
The air is knocked out of your chest, you’re suffocating on dust. Cooper’s boots are doubled and swaying in your vision as they move. You squint to try and focus, but can’t manage much except to roll on your back and twitch when a shot is fired. A guttural scream, then silence.
The scarce clouds visible from beyond the hole in the ceiling are swimming. You want to reach out and touch them.
The sky always leaves you speechless.
“Why…? Why couldn’t you just let it go…?”
You sit up slowly, hunching over as your legs cross to keep you steady. The dull pulse blossoms into pain and you press a trembling palm against your head only to find it dampened by scarlet red. What you thought was snot tickling your cupid’s bow turns out to be blood once you wipe it off with your wrist to see.
Your breathing accelerates and you look to the ghoul before you succumb to a full-blown panic attack.
He’s bending down to retrieve the folder from a man now dead before approaching you with leisurely steps and placing it in your lap once he’s knelt in front of you.
You didn’t feel like crying before you were face to face, but now your eyes are brimming.
“Next time, you don’ fuckin’ stop me.” he speaks in a low tone, letting you weep. His image shakes and you try your hardest to focus, wiping at your eyes and blinking rapidly, all in vain. “When I speak, you listen. No talkin' back, no attitude. You wanna live, you do as I say when I say.” he checks you over carelessly, sees no glass stuck to your skin, only cuts, and deduces a potential concussion from your uncoordinated movements. “Hope you learned your fuckin’ lesson.”
Your downfall, your savior, your opposite, your everything.
He’s up and walking, and you’re given no time to tend to your wounds, not even to rip off some gauze and stuff it in your nose. You replace the notebook and pencil with a water bottle, cup a hand under it, and spare some water to then splash over your face and wash away a part of the bloody smears. A sip is forced down after a short struggle because your stomach refuses to welcome anything. With jelly legs, you rise, flail briefly because the act makes the world whirl and your brain feels like it’s pressing against the inside of your skull, a sickening sensation, seething and pulsing.
Your shoulder grinds against the walls to offer support for your off-course balance as you make your way out of the rundown building. There are no thoughts in your head, for once everything is still, a dark, blank canvas swallowing any image before it can even surface. There’s only a dull ache deep within your chest, mourning, partly for you, partly for the doctor.
Cooper is waiting for you outside with a cigarette pinched between his lips and kicking at the cracked soil.
High-pitched screeching deafens you as the sun’s rays nearly blind you on the spot. Your sensitive eyes are filling with more than tears of sadness, you’re snarling instinctively with a hand shielding your vision. It’s almost nauseating and leaves your knees weak.
Was it really always this bright?
The sun has no sympathy, it blasts scorching heat as if it knows exactly where your head is exposed and oozing, it targets you with viciousness because you’re battered and broken. You lift the stained folder, let it rest against your crown and give off enough shade to keep you from fainting.
With a pained expression, you follow after the ghoul once he takes a particularly long drag from his cigarette and turns on his heel.
A trail is left in your wake, blood, tears, sweat, all marking your path as you struggle not to trip over your feet. Each step is heavy and rattles both your teeth and your brain. It’s an alien sensation, not truly pain, it’s closer to pressure and it’s agony when combined with the rest of your unpleasant symptoms.
Your breaths echo in your ears, drowning out your footsteps because you’re heaving for air like a woman drowning. The world still swims albeit less so and sometimes it’s unbearable and you’re forced to cling to Cooper’s arm and squeeze your eyes shut as he guides you. All you want is to lie down somewhere soft and sleep, but there’s no building in sight, no trees, nothing.
You walk an endless road, hours of silent torment.
With enough distance and suffering, the day is finally coming to an end and everything is bathed in deep oranges and blaring pinks. The sunset is behind you, your shadow faces you and is as decrepit and tortured as you, you’re heading east, not that it matters. You can finally open your eyes fully without wincing and that’s one less discomfort to sulk over, but then another takes its place instantaneously.
Your backpack feels heavier than ever, it digs into your armpits and it would have been worse if you hadn’t sewn the ripped strap back in place, but it made no difference now. It weighed on your back, further ruined your posture.
You readjust it multiple times with a handful of irritated grunts.
“Ain’t nobody told you t’ stuff the whole fuckin’ vault in that thing.” finally he speaks after an eternity of wordless wandering. He’s eyeing you judgmentally while mouthing another cigarette. “Said to bring essentials.”
More fuel to the fire, more salt in the wound. He’s a relentless bastard when he wants to be.
You stop to rest your hands on your knees and catch your breath and you’re a pitiful sight, but that doesn’t stop you from glaring death at him. Too far gone, in too much pain and fear from failing to understand how much damage the blow to your head had caused, you’re a hair away from losing it completely.
“Nobody told you to bring that nasty attitude either, but here I am.” you snap back through gritted teeth. “Dealing with both.”
He pauses.
“Wha’d you say?” he’s tossing away the smoke and storming towards you, but you’re not your usual self – you don’t back down or shrink away or try to run. You’re staring him dead in the eyes with a nasty look. “Care t’ repeat, Missy? My hearin’s not what it used t’ be.” he’s taunting you while holding your face with one large hand, squishing your cheeks until your lips pucker.
“You’re an asshole.” you snarl with hatred; his roughness causes your nose to fill with blood again, a fresh batch that follows the edge of your curled back upper lip and dribbles down his glove. You look almost feral, you almost fit in with your environment, but your eyes are still soft despite everything.
“Only reason why you ain’t getting’ a beatin’s cuz you already got a concussion.” he jostles you harshly, always does when you’re stepping out of line, but he’s too late to deal punishments this time.
You’re past his demeaning attitude, you’re fed up with being flung like a ragdoll and tied up and blamed for existing because you attract bad attention and he has to waste bullets. You’re bleeding and bruised and hungry and out of patience for his teachings. It might be the concussion, might be something else, but you’re writhing.
You’ve had enough.
He was no hero. He was a fucking pest.
When he shakes you for the second time and pain stabs up your neck like a knife to the spine you shudder. The sound that leaves you is worse than your visage, a carnal bellow, a menacing reverberation that could rival that of a cornered animal.
You bite him.
You sink your teeth into the plush between his thumb and forefinger with enough force for your jaw to burn. You’re clinging to his wrist and when he forces you back your nails leave angry red lines over his skin, even through his coat. You take a wide stance to retain some balance and glare at him from behind a curtain of wild, sweat-drenched hair. Your nostrils flare wide and you spit out the grime you’d bitten off.
“Well I’ll be…” he sighs while tipping his hand slowly and looks over the blunt teeth marks adorning his glove. They glisten with a thick coat of saliva. A fowl grin cracks his somber features. “If you wanned t’ swap saliva, Darlin’, should’a just said so.”
He glides his tongue over the bitemark, then licks the blood clean off his fingers. He’s tasting you, he’s savoring you and your façade falls in repulsion.
That disgusting smile never leaves his chapped lips.
You’re on the verge of insanity, pushed to the brink from everything that’s happened in the past two months and today spelled your breaking point. You’re at your wit’s end and all he does is laugh at your misfortune without a drop of empathy. How can he enjoy your misery? What kind of sick man finds pleasure in another’s pain?
“What is wrong with you?!” you shriek as your hands ball, the folder you’d forgotten you still held, creases under the pressure. You land a fist against his chest, then another, and, of course, he doesn’t even flinch. “Why are you like this?!”
He holds your arms while stifling his cackles, softens your blows while you fuss, lost in your tantrum and throwing conniving insults his way while somehow avoiding any vulgarities. It would have been a comedic performance if your condition potentially worsening didn’t make him fret. He didn’t need you passing out in the middle of nowhere because you couldn’t control your frustration.
“Who did this to you?”
Who hadn’t? His darling wife had dug a knife in his back, taken his daughter away and left him to rot. He’d known the taste of betrayal and disloyalty before the bombs and now it was a free-for-all massacre. He’d not just lost everything, it had been ripped away from him. Every single person he’d known had either tried to kill him or left him stranded.
“Who hurt you so bad…”
But who were you to ask him such questions? Who were you to sink your claws so deep and stir him awake from his bitter slumber spanning over two centuries? Who were you to question his ways and fight to find better solutions? Who were you to mend wounds you’d not caused?
You were nothing.
You were everything.
“Easy.” he warns, paying no heed to your desperate laments, then releases one of your hands to snake an arm around your waist when your knees give out. “Easy now…Easy…”
You’re bawling into his collarbone, sobbing an ugly song, and staining his vest with heavy tears. Your fists uncurl once you’re done drumming at his chest and your fingers sink into the warmth beneath his coat. He’s a solemn golem, doesn’t react to your advances, he doesn’t see you as a threat.
“Why didn’t you just shoot me in the start…”
His heartbeat never changes, but you hear him swallow a lump. He watches over the top of your head as you succumb to periodic trembles and tire yourself out completely. A dainty and ethereal creature compared to him and even in your rage and unquenchable sorrow, both caused by him, you still cling to him.
You were similar in that regard. He had shown you the same mercy you’d shown to the doctor. Selfish spinelessness, lack of courage, weakness, twisted empathy. He was no hero, but you sure made him feel like one. A part of him was addicted to the goodness you carried and didn’t want to let you go. And he cared little for how fake or real it was, he just needed to have a taste once in a while, get a reminder that softer things yet thrive in the dark crooks of the apocalypse.
“Should’a stayed in Tillburry.” a rasp so low you could have mistaken it for a rustle in the wind.
He’s already locked eyes with you when you finally unfurl your face from his vest and look up. Newfound anger spells doom on your lips. It doesn’t suit you to be angry.
“I didn’t want to stay in Tillburry.” there’s spitfire in your voice as you talk down his feeble statement. A last soft punch to his chest to solidify your words as you continue. “I want to stay with you…”
“Y’ dunno what’d fuck you’re talkin’ about.” he gravels out a tender scold, his eyes dip to your frown, his mouth waters.
He inches closer, earning an inquisitive noise from you, but you don’t back away. You grip onto his coat and for once his heart is heavy as he lowers his head until the rim of his hat is brushing against your forehead. His breath hits you and it’s rich with the smell of cigarettes.
Your inhales are forced, brash and vocal, sucked in through parted lips as you take him in for the first time. Contrary to your beliefs, he had eyelashes, thick and dark and you wonder if he was brunette before he became a ghoul. His eyes were molten gold in the dying sunlight, prettier than yours would ever be, his cheekbones were high, accentuated by the lack of fat in his cheeks.
Once upon a time, he was a handsome man.
He’s pawing at your waist to keep you close, a precaution for the slim chance that your brain kicked back into function and you pulled away like you should. He had no right taking your first kiss, he had no right to anything of yours, but there was nobody present to stop him. A small guilty pleasure, a moment of indulgence, that’s all he wanted and he’d set you free.
You’re sweating, you’re shaking.
Were you really that scared of him?
“Coop – ”
“ – ‘S okay, Pumpkin. ‘S okay…” he coos in a hushed tone, tender and sugary. “I got you…Sweet thing…I’m here.”
A queer affection coming from a man who was anything but, your mind was hazy, you’d faint any second. Your stomach is bursting with fluttering butterflies as you give in to the needy hands kneading your sides.
What was this…
“ ‘M a bad man, I know…I know. Don’t deserve this.” he sees you searching for words, gives you a good squish and you’re so pliant under his fingers it makes him weak. “Is okay…Close those pretty eyes o’ yours.”
He’s so close he can feel the heat radiating off your skin, your nose is brushing against his cheek and his lips are ghosting over yours.
“Helloooo!”
You nearly jump out of your skin.
A caravan approaches, pulled by a pair of well-fed brahmin. A man is vigorously waving a hand your way, bearing a wide smile with mostly missing teeth.
You rush to straighten your dress once you’re abruptly released and pushed away. There’s danger dancing in Cooper’s stance as he mumbles an inaudible slew, his hand is at his holster and his shoulders become ridged. There’s a heat to your cheeks that you hope the sun masks and the medical folder is tucked in front of your chest as a barrier.
Judging by the ghoul’s reaction, this man, whoever he is, is trouble and you’re not mentally prepared to withstand another bloodbath.
He flings the reins, urging the brahmin to pick up the pace and the distance between your parties grows too short too quickly. You can only pray for a peaceful exchange. His cargo is large, rectangular and covered by a dark sheet bolted to the carriage on either side.
Once he’s close enough a distressful symphony reaches your ears and you step closer to Cooper out of habit. There’s the rattling of metal, a cacophony of pained moans and haggard groans, animalistic noises from a beast you’d yet to encounter.
Was he from a circus? What kind of animal made such sounds?
“Shut the hell up back there!” he slams his fist against the cargo, you guess it’s a cage of some sort, and the mystery animals fall silent. Then he stills the brahmin and flashes you a polite smile. “Evening, Miss.”
“Hello, Sir.” you nod and the firm hand on your hip tells you to be very careful with your next words.
He doesn’t even address Cooper despite him standing in front of you, just gives him a good full-body scan and averts his attention back to you. It’s strange, for once you’re not in his shadow, your gut warns of a dirty truth hidden behind that dark curtain, one which you didn’t want to delve into.
“Sorry to bother you this late an hour.” he plants an elbow against the backrest of his seat and turns to face you properly. “I was just wondering if you were selling.”
The wind picks up your hair, for a moment the world is still.
“Selling?” you cup a hand over your eyes to block out the dying red sun falling behind the distant horizon. Your brows lock in confusion because he certainly didn’t look like a merchant. “Selling what?”
“The ghoul.” he answers as if it’s the most obvious thing, then when you don’t answer immediately he decides to add a bit more honey to the mix. “Would pay good caps for that one.”
“The…WHAT?!”
Your blood runs cold. The moans you’d previously heard turn hauntingly grim and you try to look everywhere but the covered cage. The grip on your hip is bruising in strength; the only way to ease Cooper before he snaps is to step on his boot.
The bent stop sign a few feet down the road looks weak enough. You wonder if you can tear it out and bludgeon the man to death, then shake your head. He’s not a man, can’t be if your suspicions are true.
Because who would do such a thing…
“Stop.”
It was impossible to entertain such thoughts. There exist so many words to describe the evil and grotesque and none of them come close to encompass such inhumane deeds.
“Sorry, Sir, not selling this one.” you muster out, shake off your horror and mask your malice with an awkward smile. You pat the ghoul’s shoulder like he’s a pet. “He’s a good mule, can’t imagine traveling without em.”
The words nearly make you gag while the man howls a throaty laugh.
“Sure looks like it. Real shame.” he sits back and grips the reins once more with a serene look as he stares into the sunset.
He doesn’t deserve to see such a sight, he doesn’t deserve to be so relaxed, he doesn’t deserve to live –
“ – Weeellp! If you change your mind, my establishment’s stationed in Pitfalls Valley. Big building, can’t miss it.” he gives you a playful wink and a click of his tongue before tugging at the reins “Have a good evening, Miss.”
The disturbance awakens the cage once more and the voices come back to life, despicable and anguished.
You can’t even process what had happened before you’re made to move.
“We gotta go.”
The gentle tug on your dress leads you away as you stare back unblinking. There’s a myriad of bony hands reaching from beneath the curtain, scraping at the bottom of the caravan, pulling at the metal bars, some of them are tiny.
Hate in its most primal state is an emotion you had never felt, not until today. You had never dreamed of killing someone until today. For once, you’re ready to watch a shootout, but it’s also one of those rare moments where Cooper prefers to walk away. You’re looking at him with pleading eyes and all he can offer is a bitter:
“It ain’t our problem.”
You’re no Mary Sue, you can’t charge into a battle and win, armed or not. You can’t be the hero those locked up ghouls need. You can’t do shit because this isn’t a fairytale. It’s life – cruel and cold, real and so unbelievably merciless, sick and twisted. There is no happy ending for anyone, there are no miracles.
All you can do is move along, stuff the memories in the depths of your subconscious and get over it because at least you’re still alive and free. It’s either wallow in despair or swallow it and survive. There is no joy, there is no love, no compassion, no humanity. Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten.
You link your fingers with Cooper’s and squeeze.
“What kind of fucked up piece of shit sells ghouls…”
That cracks a smile from him. He closes his fingers over your hand until it disappears behind an aegis of leather.
“Well look at you startin’ t’ swear proper.”

Living with Alfie Solomons
Warnings: Fluff, angst, references to religion and violence.
Tumblr media
Domestic Alfie Headcanons
Alfie owns many different properties all over London and Margate. To your shock, only two were in Camden. One was what you could only describe as a “bachelor’s apartment,” which strongly resembled his office with the addition of a lumpy mattress. He took you to see what he considers his “home,” a one-story brick house surrounded by the lush green of the English countryside. Alfie had built this home after deciding, “Me and stairs, right, we ain’t made for each other.” The home also comes with a sweet little guesthouse behind it for his mother to live in. At which point he had a short rant about how his aging mother refuses to move in and still lives in her tiny flat in Camden.
When he’s not being a “baker,” he does like to do some baking. Real baking. Bread, pudding, cake, pies, you name it. He likes having to measure his ingredients, put on the perfect temperature for the perfect amount of time. He likes to collect cookbooks too, and will have a gleam of almost childlike delight when he finds one he doesn’t already possess.
Alfie has a tendency to develop very strong interest in a very specific thing and then drop it months later. He retains all he’s learned from it, but it can be a bit annoying as he will fill the house with his latest obsession. A short list of obsessions he’s developed are: American cowboys, jewelry making, stamps, coin collecting, eastern meditation practices, and Italian opera.
You had to get used to his slight OCD involving things in his home. Everything has a place, and he gets very grumpy if you move something, a spoon for instance, and he can’t immediately find it.
Children in the neighborhood are equal parts frightened and delighted by Alfie. They think he’s funny but intimidating. He gives out money and gifts to the Jewish families of Camden, and the children know that. Your dear man will huff and puff about the kids bothering him… but also throw them a coin or a sweet when he’s in the mood. Alfie is sort of like Santa Claus and the Boogeyman at the same time to them. After you started living with him, these children started to follow you around the neighborhood to ask questions about him. Some are quite tame, like “Does Mr. Solomons like cake?” or “Is Mr. Solomons your husband? Will you have lots of children?” while others are, “Did Mr. Solomons kidnap you?”
Relationship Headcanons
Mr. Solomons is quiet in his moments of romance with you. He likes to cup your cheek in his palm and touch his forehead to yours. Trace your face with his thumb as if to memorize it by touch. He places slow kisses on your cheeks and lips, gentle and almost reverent. His world is very brutal and without loyalty, you become his sanctuary. He sleeps best with you in his arms or laying directly on top of him. If you need to get up for any reason, expect a lot of complaining in at least three different languages from Alfie. He hates to be left alone in bed now that he’s had you.
Thomas Shelby had no idea Alfie was married, until Alfie felt like telling him. Tommy now knows far too much about you. And you know far too much about Thomas Shelby. The first time you meet in person is very awkward.
Alfie is the sort of person that likes quality time and good conversation. He likes to go on strolls with you on the beach of Margate when his knee isn’t too painful. Going to the museum or a library are all tip-top dates in Alfie’s opinion. However, his favorite place to take you is back home. Home is where he can make you dinner and listen to you laugh at his strange stories. He loves to banter and bicker with you. You are one of the few people to make him laugh. Everyone at the port knows when Alfie’s had a nice evening with you because he comes to work in such a grand mood. Newer employees have to be warned not to get too comfortable, as he could come in like a bull if you argued that morning.
He has a bad habit of dropping surprises on you. These surprises normally revolve around security and protection. Alfie will buy or arrange things for you and then completely forget he did it until you storm into his office asking for an explanation. For some reason, this man won’t admit these things are for self-defense. He just acts like it’s perfectly normal to take your lover out to a gun range or teach her how to stab a man between the ribs. He’s just being a fun, quirky man!
A marriage proposal is never far off, he’s just waiting for you to convert. If you do not want to convert, prepare to be a secret. He is a religious man and he treasures his faith. Alfie will never forsake you (though he may jest) for not believing what he believes. His reason for hiding you is simple, his mother. Mrs. Solomons wouldn’t speak to her son if she found out he was living with an unwed gentile!
That said, Mrs. Solomons adores you before and after you marry her son. She’s a delightful old Russian woman who is constantly ordering Alfie around. Mainly, she tells him he glares too much, and he needs to give her a grandchild soon.
You were surprised by how touchy he is behind closed doors. In public, you could pass for an employee with how distant he is before marriage. After marriage, he likes to walk with arms linked. As a married couple, it is more appropriate to be seen touching each other and he takes full advantage of it. As a matter of fact, he’s almost clingy. He’ll call the house from his office and make up an excuse to talk to you.

Do I Make you Nervous? | Simon "Ghost" Riley
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

As they attempt to brave the storm sweeping through the streets, the infamously unreadable Ghost challenges their professional relationship.

Word count: 5,874
• • • • •
It was all a set-up. A lie.
Disappointment and anger triumphs any sadness over Grave's betrayal. At first, he came across as over-confident in that stereotypical male way. Over time I had warmed up to him. But Shepherd? The man who has given me the most freedom I’ve had in a long time? I admit that my use as a weapon to him has put a strain on our companionship, but to station me with my own cousin only to lash out unprovoked? He’s crossed a line that he can never come back from. The small liking I had for the man vanished as soon as shit hit the fan. Everything seems to replay in my mind. Alejandro insulted and detained, Johnny shot at, Ghost cornered...
There were too many of them to fight off. I couldn't trust myself to hold my own with my mind worrying over Johnny, Alejandro and Ghost while also plotting Shepherd's death. So, though it pained me, I ran. Ghost and Johnny did the same.
My radio was damaged in the incident. A stray bullet flew my way, and with a stroke of luck, grazed the radio instead of my ribs. The close call was enough warning to run, which is what I do now. The lack of communication only worsens the worry.
Shadows crawl in the streets of Las Almas like rats in a sewer. From door to door they go, yelling at innocent civilians in the late hours of dusk. From the conversations I've heard, they're looking for two foreign men and their female friend. They don't quite explain why we're being hunted, but the truth wouldn't change much. Every so often, a shot fires, echoing through the streets like a warning bell. A call of sorrow and fear.
With the Shadows forcing their way into civilian homes and raising their weapons against anyone who could harbour us, houses and shops aren't safe. The towering cathedral spires peeking above tin roofs and stacked houses catch my attention instead. Nobody would be inside at this time of night. For now, it's the best I can do. Also to my luck, the church isn't too far away. I take my time and keep to the shadows on my way. With a quick survey of my surroundings, I know I've bet the Shadows to this part of the city. That won't last long. The revelation has me jumping the gate within seconds of making it.
Inside the church is pitch black. Towering windows that tell biblical tales line the walls, casting light in intervals across the empty foyer. Rows of seats begin to emerge as my eyes adjust. Further back is an intricate, circular skylight tens of feet above the marble floor. Illuminating the altar below is a waterfall of silvery light. The giant cross, gold statues, and wooden altar glow like I'm looking through a blurred lens. The view is both eerie and magical...and not meant to be marvelled at in a time like this. My focus should be maintaining high ground. I begin to turn in search of a staircase when something shifts in the darkness.
A figure materialises, tall and built; easily a male physically capable of snapping my neck. My next best option is the gun strapped to my hip to parry the one in his hand. I go to reach for mine—
“Y/N?”
I freeze in surprise, but my mind eases slightly.
“Lieutenant? How—”
“Doesn’t matter. We’re here now.” He looks down at me with searching eyes. “You in one piece?”
“Yes. You—?” At that moment, my own eyes skim his body, only to halt at a worrying sight. On the left side of his waist, just above the waistband of his pants, is a blooming, dark red stain on his shirt. He’s been shot. “Jesus, Ghost. How bad is it?”
“I’ve had worse—”
He stops himself at the distant shouting. The surrounding streets haven’t been quiet since I’ve been in the church, but this time it grows closer. Angrier. Ghost doesn’t waste time ushering me along in search of a stairwell. The one we find leads to the second floor, then a third. Eventually, we discover the central bell tower. The room is dank and cold and decently big. Suspended in the middle is a gigantic bell. Even in the dark, I can see how weathered the metal is. The worn wooden floors creak as we cross it. On each wall are arched openings that allow entry to the cold night air and terrified screams. A small cluster of discarded furniture draped in white sheets huddles in a corner. From here, we have a perfect view of the sprawling city and winding streets. To those down there, we’re invisible.
Simon leans back against a wall and grunts, his hands brushing over the bullet wound. He pulls back his hands to inspect the fresh blood. However bad it is, it’s still bleeding.
“Show me,” I say. My voice comes out more demanding than I intend.
He gives me a brief exasperated look but doesn’t push back.
Ghost sits against the wall with his shoulders slumped just enough to reach my level. His jacket is unzipped, his black shirt rolled up halfway. Those tired, piercing eyes and muscular arms are the most I've ever seen of him. It feels like a reward when the weather is unforgiving enough to chase away his usual long-sleeve or jacket. His arms are tanned and muscled, with a tattoo sleeve working from the wrist of his left arm up to his elbow. I’ve begun to accept that it’s the closest I’m ever going to get to seeing him. But now I stare down at his bare abdomen.
The waistband of his black cargo pants sits low on his hips, offering a distracting view of a pronounced V-line and abs. In the moonlight, I can make out the reminders of war that mark his skin; a few silvery scars, some clean-cut, some gnarled and twisted; an old bullet wound healed closer to his ribs. The fresh one with the most of my attention is buried in a more acceptable spot. It nestles into the far right side of his waist, thankfully nowhere near any vital organs. However, it’s still a bullet wound and it still bleeds. That’s enough to worry me.
“Do you reckon it’s bad?” I ask.
He shrugs. “I wouldn’t say I’m dying.”
“But we aren’t in the position to get proper help. Maybe sit down for a bit.” Surprisingly, he does so without question. I get to my feet, draw a small knife from my thigh holster, and rip a strip of fabric from the white sheets. When I drop back down beside him, I take a deep breath. “Here"
He takes it with a mumbled thank you and wraps the fabric around his waist.
“You heard from John?” I ask.
Simon winces as he adjusts the torn sheet. “I radioed him multiple times. Never got an answer.”
“Are you surprised by all this?”
Simon leans back against the wall. “I tend to be less surprised by betrayal. But I had some respect for Shepherd.”
I sigh, shuffling around him so that I can do the same. “What are we supposed to do now?”
“Survive,” he says. “Shepherd wants you alive. Graves will see to that. He can’t kill Alejandro, either. But Johnny and I…” He shakes his head. “Graves won’t sleep until there’s a bullet in our heads and Shepherd won’t care enough to stop it.”
There’s a moment of silence as I fold my arms and look away thoughtfully. How are we supposed to do this? The blanket of night and the ensuing storm may offer some cover, but getting out of the city will be a mission. I can’t bring myself to leave without John, either. My heart hurts when I think about him. He could be anywhere, alone and outnumbered while I sit uselessly in a bell tower.
“What do we do about Johnny?” My voice is quiet. Fearful. “My radio was damaged so I couldn’t reach out to him. Maybe his is the same. But not knowing… He’s the only family I have left. My only real friend.”
“Don’t worry about Johnny. He’s one of the most resourceful and strong-willed Sergeants I’ve dealt with in a while. Have faith in him.” He looks at me then, tilting his head to the side. “I wouldn’t say he’s your only friend.”
“I do quite like his girlfriend…” I murmur.
“And Alejandro? Ronaldo?”
I purse my lips as his question draws thought. I’ve been considering Alejandro and Ronaldo as allies. Companions. But I’ve grown quite fond of them. Considering them as friends would set me up for heartache if anything were to happen. So I haven’t… At least openly. Despite my attempts to create some distance in our relationships, my subconscious has decided for me. Those two are my friends. It explains the immense distress I’m battling over Alejandro’s capture.
“I guess so.”
“Me?”
Silence ensues from both of us.
His question stuns me; I was prepared for him to stop at Alejandro and Ronaldo. There’s nobody else in Las Almas or back at home that I pay attention to. Besides Ghost, at least. I could answer him in a second. I almost do.
Ghost is infamous for his detachment. He’s quiet, short-tempered, dangerous and mysterious. I’ve heard the comments that he suits his code name. Spiritual beings do not communicate through speech but through action. Ghost is the physical embodiment of the epiphany. Anybody able to coax a few sentences from him outside missions is admirable. Outside of that, his physical emotions require deep analysis and theory to understand. The mask only makes things more difficult. I’ve never seen him show palpable kindness through his aura or words to anyone, never heard him allow the use of his name, never heard him offer others insight into the raging whirlwind of his mind.
And yet he lets those things slide around me.
He lets me speak his name when no one is listening. He offers me comfort when I need it most — if not through limited words, through soft gazes and a hand on my shoulder. I’m usually able to get him talking. Sometimes I receive short answers, sometimes I receive enough to help me understand more of that whirlwind mind. He even occasionally shows pieces of himself that take away from the guessing game I usually play.
I shut people out because the last people I let in betrayed me.
I never consider answering personal questions, but you tend to have a lot of them. And every time you ask…I almost answer
I guess you and I are more alike than I thought.
All of it has me wanting more. More of his mind, his words, the soft gazes I’ve noticed are reserved for me. What I already have is nothing compared to every naked truth he could be telling me. However, what I’ve managed to coax from him seems to be more than he’s told anyone in a long time. At first, I marked it down as me being the only female on the team or Ghost considered me fragile. But I've proved myself, and nothing about being a 'fragile female' (which I very well am not) does not automatically give me all these passes. I now realise it is much more than that.
Never once has he called me his friend. I already have. Now it’s his turn.
“I don’t mind you, Simon, but friendship can’t be one-sided,” I say. While it’s a simple statement, a silent question hides between each word. Are you my friend?
“If it was as one-sided as you think, you wouldn’t be calling me Simon.”
My heart skips a beat. There. It’s an answer to my unspoken words, but it’s not plain as day. As usual, Simon tells me something that is anything but straightforward. There’s room for interpretation in his answer—something that is beginning to tire me. It’s almost as if the honest answer is criminal and he’s trying to cover up his tracks. Almost as if not speaking that honest answer can allow him to deny it.
I don't bother concealing my annoyance. “That’s not what I want to hear and you know it.”
“Fuck sakes, Y\N, I said it,” he says. His voice comes out both argumentative and exasperated.
“No, you didn't. All I ever get out of you is stuff that works around the truth. Stuff I have to think about to understand.” I'm crossing a line, I know. I just can't help it. “What’s so hard about admitting it?”
“Don’t.”
His tone is final. I don’t care.
“Does the truth scare you?”
His eyes squint, becoming barely visible against the black paint, the mask, and the low light. I can clearly picture a scowl jumping across the many faces I’ve imagined. While I want to flinch away, I don’t. Not for a second do my eyes lower, and not for a second do I grow offensive. I remain calm and collected, which I think annoys him more.
“You want the truth?” he growls. The accent of Manchester seems to thicken. “Fine. I’ll tell you the truth. I don’t want to admit I think of you as a friend ‘cause I bloody well want to ignore it. For years, it’s only been me and I planned it to be for the rest of my life. Then all of a sudden you and your annoying cousin appear and jeopardise everything. The only person with an inkling of anything was Shepherd and I was fine with that. But now you’re catching up to him. You’ve so effortlessly undone everything I’ve worked hard to maintain.” The growl in his voice dies down the longer he speaks. In the last sentence, his voice is quiet, defeated, but a little begrudging. “And I knowingly let you.”
“If it was bothering you that much, you should have told me,” I say with a voice equally as quiet. “If I knew you didn’t want me to know so badly, I would have respected that.”
He shakes his head. “You don’t understand. I think about telling you everything. I may get pissy at you over your questions, but…” A sigh. The truth is shameful to him. “I look forward to them.”
“If it makes you feel any better…” I laugh a little. “It’s really annoying how intriguing you are. Not just your past and your face… When I’m not trying to guess what you look like, I’m refraining from asking you stupid questions. Shit like if you’re a cat or dog person.”
“Dog person,” he replies. Any hint of anger or annoyance has disappeared. “Cats have too much attitude.”
I squint. “You just don’t appreciate them.”
“You strike me as a cat person.” He pauses in thought. “You just remind me of a cat, really.”
I raise my brows, giving him an exasperated look. “Are you going to tell me I have an attitude?”
“Maybe. But there’s more to it.”
I cock my head in question.
“Cats are friendly. Independent.” His eyes shift and I wonder if there's a smirk beneath the mask. “Curious.”
“Was that another dig at my questions?”
“Yes. Now shut up and listen.”
Before he continues, I find myself turning my body so I can fully look at him, my shoulder against the concrete walls and my legs folded beneath me.
“There’s that look in their eyes that they know your worst thoughts. Your secrets. They’re also graceful. Got that high-class elegance about them. But they can be unpredictable, striking out when you least expect. Once they sink their claws into you…” His eyes search my face. “You can’t get rid of them.”
I look up at him in wonder, my mouth slightly agape as I try to find a suitable response. Nothing I could say would express the way his words sink in. I’ve always coined Simon to be the observant type, keeping to himself and remaining silent. But I never expected him to relay his finds. His usual short, sharp answers contrast the compliment greatly.
“I think…” A small smile curves my lips upwards. “…That was the most meaningful compliment I’ve ever gotten.”
“Don’t let it go to your head.”
“Never. Now I have a question.”
“The floor is yours.”
“Do you have, like, Queen Elizabeth tattooed on your face? The British flag?” I grin. “Something mask-worthy, you know?”
“Why does it have to be something British?”
“Because there’s no way you’re the only Brit I know that isn’t somewhat stereotypical.”
Simon huffs a laugh. “No stereotypical tattoos. Sorry to disappoint.”
“A big scar, then?”
He tilts his head. “No scars that make me want to wear it.”
I raise my brows. “So you do have a scar?”
“Only one big one.”
“Good to know.” I nod my head with thoughtful eyes. “I’ll add that to a mental note.”
His eyes widen a fraction. The skull sown to his balaclava only offers the view of his painted eyes and nothing. Not even his eyebrows. I guess he’s raising them in question.
“How often do you think about this?”
I let out a long breath. “You have no idea. I change what I think you look like every day.”
“What do you think I look like.”
I go quiet in thought for a moment. As I said, the image changes… Only more frequently than I want to admit. Sometimes the change is small. Sometimes the change is big. I know I’m not the only one stumped by this, either. John and I joked over it once. He said things eluding to him being unattractive. A crooked nose, a huge scar, broken teeth. Every time he made a guess I would laugh, but never did the ideas seep into my mind. Nothing in an unattractive sense, anyway. Despite the possibility, I can never picture him as ugly.
“It varies, but…” I take one last second to collect my thoughts. “Without that skull piece, you have dark eyebrows. I imagine your hair is brown. And you’re eyes…it’s hard to tell with the paint, but they’re more deep-set and heavy-lidded. The balaclava is tight enough to make me think you have a straight nose, high cheekbones, strong jaw…” I shake my head. “Beyond that, I’m stumped.”
I can tell he thinks deeply about each characteristic. I sit patiently and almost wait for confirmation, but I know better than that. If he’s not going to show his face, he’s not going to—
“My hair is brown.”
I’m about to backtrack on my previous thought when he reaches towards the space between my neck and shoulder. In the frenzy that has been the last hour, my hair has come undone. The braid was unsavable, making me pull out the band and attempt a ponytail…only for it to snap in two. My hair now falls in dishevelled waves. A small part of my hair falls over my shoulder. Simon gingerly reaches for it, curling it between his finger and examining it in the low light. …Can he hear how fast my heart is beating?
“Not like yours. A few shades lighter, maybe. And that scar…”
Even more gingerly, Simon pulls one of my hands from its folded position, and I pray my expression doesn’t betray me. Rough, calloused hands press against the back of mine. The size difference is almost comical. He guides it to his masked face, working his fingers working around mine to spread them out. He drags my hand over his right cheekbone, across the hollow of his cheek, and towards his jaw. My mind is hyper-fixated on the shape of his face.
“Right along there.”
His eyes continue to search my face. There’s nothing but curiosity in the blue-grey of his irises. Curious at what, I can’t tell. Everything about this has my mind raging. The way he looks at me, the way he holds my hand against the black balaclava, the way he towers over me even when sitting down... The thoughts that surface are shameful. He’s your lieutenant, for Christ’s sake. Have some respect. The remembrance of his position has little help.
If anything, it strengthens the fantasies.
His hold shifts on top of my hand, the pad of his thumb swiping across my skin to stop on the inner side of my wrist and press down. He may not have been able to hear my heartbeat…but now he can feel it at the worst possible moment.
“You’re heart is beating fast.” He inclines his head. “Do I make you nervous, Y\N?”
God, is my breathing even? I can’t tell.
“You just caught me off guard, is all.”
Simon hums thoughtfully as his hand breaks away from mine and reaches forward. His fingers connect with my collarbone before finding my neck, exploring upwards in search of a pulse point. A shiver of excitement and nervousness runs beneath my skin like a ripple. His other hand slides over my knee and up my thigh. If my heart was racing before, this is a life-or-death sprint.
Slow are his movements. Calculated. He knows exactly where my heartbeat reverberates in my neck. Instead, he drags the moment out, coaxing out his desired reaction. But there’s something else in the slowness: a window for me to flinch away and draw the physical line neither of us has ever drawn. We’ve brushed shoulders and hands. We’ve sat with our bodies aligned in cramped cars. He’s held my hair back in a bathroom as I threw up after a panicked episode (something I would like to forget if he wasn't so surprisingly understanding). He's placed a hand on my shoulder for many different reasons. All are excusable moments. The ones that surpass professional boundaries can be marked as friendly. However, the intimacy of this moment is new. Scary. Exciting.
“Did you know your bottom lip twitches before you lie?” Simon asks. I find myself at eye level with him. When did he get so close? “I don’t like lies. Try again.”
“Sometimes…” I breathe.
“Sometimes, what?”
Bastard. “Sometimes you make me nervous.”
“Why?”
“Because…” I frown. “I don’t know.”
He’s definitely leaning closer now. Not just with his head, but with his whole upper body. Out of the nerves Simon is so adamant on understanding, I retreat, only making it a few inches before my back hits the other wall. Simon half hovers over me, the hand that was on my thigh now bracing himself on the floor. There are only a few inches between our chests. Even less between our faces. Not once does he lose his connection with my pulse.
“Another lie.”
“I don’t know how to word it. That's not a lie.”
Simon drops his head so that his covered mouth hovers beside my ear.
“Good girl.”
Never has praise sounded so seductive. It takes every inch of concentration to reign in my self-control. I might have ripped off his mask then and there…
Only, I think he’s beating me to it.
From where his head hovers, I can’t see his masked face. The wide, strong shape of his shoulder obscures most of my vision. He retracts his hand from my neck to reach somewhere I can’t see. The sound of moving cloth widens my eyes and upsets the rhythm of my breathing, the uneven rise and fall of my chest barely brushing his.
Maybe he’s adjusting it, I convince myself. He has only ever offered you little pieces at a time. What he’s offering me now is more than he ever has at once. While my body screams for more, my mind knows I can’t expect too much from him. Whatever he’s doing now is more than enough.
“You’re breathing funny.”
The feeling of breath skims the shell of my ear and down my neck like a warm, ghostly waterfall. It takes me a second to notice a difference in his voice. It’s low, it’s rough, it’s teasing. All are easily noticeable and nothing new. What is new is the enhanced clarity. An added sharpness lingers in his accented words. The slight muffle is nowhere to be found.
I was wrong. He’s lifted his mask.
“Because you’re taking off your mask." My answer comes out in a weak whisper.
He doesn’t speak about the mask, instead repositioning his hand to my neck to find my pulse.
“If you can’t tell me,” he murmurs, returning to the previous topic, “your heartbeat can.”
A warm feeling presses into my neck. A gasp slips past my lips as my heartbeat continues to quicken and stumble beneath his thumb. Against my skin…I think Simon is smiling.
Nothing about this seems real. Simon plants slow kisses on my neck with his bare lips. They’re a little rough, yet soothing. Whether they’re full or thin, I can’t tell, but the lack of obvious signs paints an image of something in between. His nose brushes the base of my jaw. Just above the pointed tip is where the balaclava begins. I can feel the hard edges of the sewn-on skull pressing into my left temple. Light stubble covers his jaw.
As his mouth works slowly against my neck, my jaw, and my collarbone, my hand slides up and over his chest. I slowly feel his bare neck. Beneath my fingers, his Adam's apple bobs. Further I explore, feeling the planes of his skin. The stubble scratches against my curious hand. Raised skin runs in a line over the right side of his face; the scar. It’s thin and generally clean-cut. He pulls back slightly as I feel his face. A deep chuckle rumbles in his chest as my thumb traces over his lips. I was right, they are something between full and thin. His lower lip feels slightly fuller with a deep hollow beneath that curves into his chin.
When I find it in me to speak, my voice is breathy.
“Kiss me.” He seems to still at that. When his reply isn’t instant, I continue. “You don’t have to… But I won’t look. I swear it.”
Silently, he reaches for my hand. He holds his over mine for a moment as he did with the mask moments earlier. Then he gently pries it away. Cloth shifts in my air as he fixes the mask and pulls back. I can’t say I’m not disappointed, but I respect the decision. Simon looks down at me with lust-blown pupils. Mine must be the same.
He takes a second to examine me. My heavy-lidded eyes, my slightly parted lips, the way I slump beneath him, the glistening wet spots left on my neck. He whips it away before he speaks.
“Can I trust you?”
We both know the answer to that, so instead of saying the obvious, I one-up him.
“Do you want to trust me?”
Silence passes for a heartbeat.
“Of course I do,” he says softly. “I want to trust you. I want to touch you. I want to kiss you. …Undress you. I’ve wanted to for so long.”
Then he moves.
My thoughts go quiet as Simon’s hands reach upward. When his fingers brush the base of his mask, I reach out and still his hands. The action takes both of us by surprise. For months I’ve been thinking about this moment. Just now I’ve admitted how much what he looks like takes up my mind. Now I find myself stopping him, but not because I’ve changed my mind. I worry that this will be something he’ll regret.
“Simon,” I say. “You don’t owe it to me to show your face.”
“But I do.” He inclines his head. “Now keep your pretty eyes up.”
My breath catches in my throat as he pulls it off in one swift motion. I take in everything I’m seeing in amazement, wonder, and bewilderment.
He’s handsome. He’s really handsome.
The ruggedness and confidence he carries seem to be etched into the planes of his face. A light stubble shadows his angular, defined jaw. Just as I had imagined, the bridge of his nose is straight and strong. His high cheekbones, deep-set eyes and smudged black paint create deep shadows. His mouth is wide. The shape of them is a physical manifestation of what I had imagined. With an average fullness, his upper lip is slightly smaller with a soft cupid’s bow. Tracing the angles of his right cheekbone is that straight, silver scar. His hair isn’t as short as most other military men’s. It’s a little messy from the mask and, true to his words, a few shades lighter than mine. I can tell that, the longer it gets, the more it curls.
I stay silent as I take him in, eyes wide. Somehow I find the courage to slowly reach out. His blue-grey eyes dart to my hesitant fingers. When he doesn’t deny me, I close the space, this time feeling him without needing to imagine his image. I apply a little pressure as I brush his skin, feeling the warmth of his cheeks, the scar tissue on his cheekbone, and the stubble on his jaw. His eyes train on me. This is one of the few times I cannot understand what I see in them.
Whatever he’s thinking, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that I stare back at Simon. Not Ghost, Simon.
“I was starting to think you weren’t real,” I say jokingly.
He laughs softly. One side of his mouth quirks up into a skewed smirk. My heart flutters at the sight of it. When he speaks, it’s with that teasing tone that always had me imagining a smirk. Matching his expressions to his tones is a strange thing to see, but I love it.
“Is this real enough for you?” he asks.
I hum in agreement. “You’re a lot better looking than I imagined.”
He raises a brow in mock offence. “Do I radiate unattractiveness? I’m offended.”
“I never said I imagined you ugly.”
I draw my hands back, taking another good look at him. My amazed smile remains. So does the awe in my eyes. Now that I know how good-looking he is, it’s going to be hard to get him out of my head. At least I can’t scold myself over falling for a faceless man anymore.
“I guess if I die tonight… I can go a little happier.”
The way he tilts his head and looks up through lowered brows sends my mind into a frenzy. I’m used to the action with his mask on, usually with the sewn-on skull. Now, with every part of his face laid bare for me, the feeling it stirs comes tenfold. He gives me a fake accusing look. Beneath the teasing air he gives off, that desire remains.
“A little?” he murmurs. His face grows closer, giving me a better view of the hollows and curves and marks of war.
“A little not enough?”
His eyes dip to my lips. “Not by a longshot.”
Then Simon kisses me.
Eyes fluttering closed, I sink into the feeling of his lips against mine. Gently. Hesitantly. Does he expect me to pull away? How could he think such a thing when I almost seemed desperate when I asked him? My hands slide over his chest, slowly linking behind his neck as the kiss deepens.
For a moment, everything fades away. The gunfire, the screams, the impending death we may face any moment... All of it reduces to a meaningless blur. Suddenly all that exists is me, Simon, and the secret embrace we share. In our kiss is a million unspoken words; a tidal wave of passion laced with a bittersweet sadness. The talk of ‘dying happy’ is no exaggeration. We very well may die, and seeing his face and feeling his touch eases the painful thought. Maybe this way I can find him in the afterlife - seek out his mysterious eyes and lopsided smirk and spend an eternity together. Or perhaps there is no afterlife, and this is my last stroke of luck.
Satisfied with the knowledge of what he does to me, Simon lowers his hand from my neck. The pressure reapplies near my belt. His fingers timidly skim the bottom of my tanktop, pulling the tucked part from my waistband. My own fingers weave through his brown hair as his hand slides further beneath. My kiss falters when he finds one of my breasts. His hand comfortably rests over it, his palm slowly kneading at the flesh. A low groan builds at the back of my throat.
After a moment, we pull away, chests rising and falling as we take deep breaths. His forehead rests against mine and suddenly I'm wishing we could do this over again. Except I picture less sadness to tinge every word and action. I picture the safety of home, the warmth of a bed, a carefree air that allows us to just enjoy the other's company. Reality comes back in a painful rush.
“I don’t want to die,” I whisper.
His hand retreats from my breast at my words. Instead, he takes a hold of my waist, giving me a comforting squeeze.
“You are not going to die. Not today. Not when there’s so much more I want from you.” He adds the last part with a teasing, suggestive smirk.
He looks down at my lips again—
“Ghost, how do you copy?”
We both freeze at the sound of a voice, so caught up in the moment that the radio is forgotten. Both the unspeakable things and sorrowful thoughts flooding my mind suddenly vanish at the sound of a familiar voice. There’s an equally received look on Simon’s face as he reaches for the small radio.
“I read you loud and clear, Sergeant,” he says. “What’s your location?”
“I…don’t know,” John replies solemnly. “Streets are crawling with Shadows. Where are you?”
“You see church spires above the houses?”
There’s a second of silence. Then…
“I see them.”
“Good. Head straight there and come inside. No Shadows here yet. They’ll be busy going door to door.”
“Affirmative. I’m on my way. Have you got any word from Y/N?”
Simon looks at me, silently giving me the floor to speak. “I’m right here, Johnny.”
There’s a sigh of relief on the other end. “Oh, thank fuck. You in one piece?”
“I’m all here. You?”
“Got a shot to the shoulder. Nothing I can’t handle.”
For the next while, Simon and I sit huddled side by side, guiding Johnny through the radio. I generally leave the talking to Simon. Listening to him speak and sinking into his warmth is good enough. Every so often, he'll say something that takes me by surprise. Sometimes it's a dad joke, either really good or incredibly bad. Sometimes it's something that alludes to Simon not minding Johnny. He never outright admits it, but saying 'I like you alive' to Johnny's 'so you do like me' speaks for itself. I smile at that. I have sunk my claws into him, and he's not going to be able to get rid of me till the day I die.

Tumblr media
Sanctuary; protection or a safe place. That’s what Namor’s cavern had become to you over the years. Your sanctuary.
Talokan was beautiful, it was almost unbelievable to see an entire nation built underwater, a sun made of vibranium glowing above Namor’s gilded throne, bringing light to the depths of the ocean. You would gladly spend hours on end just exploring the kingdom, and speaking to locals who initially gawked at you, a surface dweller, swimming through their cities. But this cavern was your safe haven.
A relaxed sigh slipped through your lips, tilting your head back to take in the magnificent art in front of you.  You would often find Namor there, painting stories intricately across the walls, splashes of vibrant colors melted together to create a visual history of his world. It was his sanctuary too.
You gently tugged his cloak closer over your shoulders as you stood, stepping closer to the wall and tracing your fingers over the figure which depicted himself, along with the Black Panther, telling the story of the alliance formed with Wakanda. A small smile pulled at the corners of your lips, your eyes trailing to the left where you discovered a more recent painting, a familiar figure decorating the wall.
It was your story.
Your escape from the research facility, the crash landing into the large cave, your near death at Namor’s hand. You were a surface dweller with strange power he had not seen in all the centuries he’d lived, trapped in a research facility, as scientists attempted to take your power and reproduce it to create more enhanced individuals.
In your escape, you’d found yourself sent crashing into the waters of Yucatán, where you’d awakened in a large cave with a destroyed ship and surrounded by Talokanil warriors. Namor would have killed you that day for endangering his people, knowing your escape could lead more surface dwellers to Talokan.
“Do you know what they would do to my people?” He’d spoken dangerously into your ear, gripping your jaw in his hand. “You are too dangerous to be kept alive here.”
And yet, when they came for you, the two of you fought side by side along with the Talokanil army. The agents were slain before they could even reach the water, wiping any trace of your location from the organization.
When he saw how you cared for his people, aiding any of the wounded that you could and shielding his underwater lands, Namor offered you protection. So long as you remained in Talokan, keeping their nation hidden and protected, you would be safe from the clutches of the surface world.
This was your home now, your safe haven; where you were free to live as you were, in the depths of the ocean, hidden in underwater caverns.
Your heart swelled at the memories, the lingering scent of Namor wrapped around your shoulders, his cloak warming your skin. The paint was still fresh on the mural, his tools strewn about on the rocky table behind you, waiting to be cleansed for his next piece.
Namor was a magnificent storyteller, through both his words and his art. His words rung through your ears, memories from when he’d told you the story of how Talokan came to be, about his mother. It was heart-wrenching to hear how his people had fallen victim to the death and diseases brought by Spanish invaders, how they had to leave their lives on the surface and begin anew underwater.
"He called me, 'El Niño sin Amor', 'the child without love'. And I took my name from there. Namor. Because I have no love for the surface world."
It was strange to hear, for a man who was filled with so much love for his people, his nation, the world they’d created for themselves where they could survive without the threat of the death and diseases brought by the surface. He had no love for the surface world or its people, and he would do anything to protect his home from being ravaged again. Yet, he’d found love in a surface dweller.
Rippling water behind you broke you from your thoughts, the sound of jewelry lightly clicking and wings fluttering, causing your heart to skip a beat at his presence. His footsteps were light as he made his way to your side, his figure towering to your right, the golden bands on his wrists glimmering in the corner of your eye. You couldn’t restrain the smile that tugged at your lips, turning silently to face him.
“My love,” you greeted, before reaching for his hair, pushing it back to reveal more of his face. Namor’s hair was thick between your fingers, it soaked your skin with water as it folded into place.
He was beautiful. From his pointed ears, to the curve of his nose, and his wet lips, which curved into a smile of his own, while his eyes trailed down your cloaked body.
“It suits you,” he complimented, running his hands over your shoulders where the cloak hung and down your arms. “I could have one made for you, as my queen.”
You shook your head, lowering your gaze with a light laugh as a warmth spread across your cheeks. It wasn’t the first time he’d suggested something like this, but it could never be that simple.
“Please, amor. A surface dweller as queen? There would be an outrage.” You chuckled at the idea, lifting your head while he tugged you closer to the warmth of his body.
“Well, yes.” He nodded, shrugging his adorned shoulders, the stunning jewelry around his neck clicking as it shifted. “But your home is here now. You are no longer a surface dweller, an outsider.”
“And yet, some still look at me as one.” You pressed back softly and shook your head once more.
You both knew such a prospect could divide the Talokanil, though they loved and revered Namor as K'uk'ulkan, the fear and hatred for the surface world burned in many of their hearts. To see an outsider from the surface take a throne alongside their leader would cause confusion and go against the beliefs of many. While the people showed kindness and respect to you for the work you had done to protect them, some remained wary of your presence. The risk was too high.
Tearing yourself away from the idea, you nodded towards the mural on the wall with his latest creation. “It’s beautiful.”
The warmth of his hand cupped your cheek, bringing comfort to your mind as he regarded you with those deep eyes. The eyes that once glared at you threateningly, ready to kill you, now gazed at you with an adoration that made your heart swell and your stomach flutter. His touch brought you peace and safety. A breath you didn’t know you were holding in escaping quietly through your lips.
“Thank you, for protecting me.” You spoke softly, placing your hand over his and leaning into the comfort of his warmth with a light kiss to his palm.
Namor brought you forward, lowering his forehead to your own. “I’ve waited centuries for you, In yakunaj.” My love. The cool surface of his jewelry tickled at your skin. “You are mine now, and I will always protect you, as long as I live.”
“In k’áatech.” I love you. You knew he loved it when you spoke his tongue, rewarded with an affectionate smile. “And I will be by your side, always.”
He closed the distance between your lips and you melted into the kiss, feeling all your love pour into him as he drowned you with his own. “In k’áatech.”
He was everything. He was your love, your home, and your sanctuary.

Fresh out of teaching your first two university classes, the afternoon had been relatively calm, stress-free and mostly void of any students asking idiotic questions. None of your students dozed off during your lectures, a sign that meant they enjoyed their time spent in class, or at least pretended they did. Either way, it achieved your primary goal to ensure your students felt fulfilled, leaving with more knowledge than they started with.
Your next class wouldn’t be for a couple hours, which gave you time for a full lunch, and a chance to catch up on grading papers, but also taking some relaxation for yourself. After finishing up your lesson plans for the rest of the week and putting a dent into grading, a soft knock at the door interrupted your progress.
Most days, you had an open door policy during office hours, encouraging any students to visit with you unscheduled.
Only when you wanted to concentrate or when a student needed to spend time with you did you shut that door, and as far as you remembered, none of your students had scheduled anything today. That didn’t mean your students weren’t welcome, but you weren’t expecting anyone to show up until your official posted time, which didn’t begin for another hour.
“Come in.”
The mahogany door to your office swung open, and behind revealed a slender woman with raven locks wearing a strapless sequined dress, gazing up with the prettiest doe eyes and a pair of freshly glossed lips—one of your favorite students, Choi Yewon.
“Good afternoon, professor.”
That favoritism might have been because you were in a (very inappropriate) relationship with her, but the point still stood, Arin was a breath of fresh air, a sight for sore eyes.
“Good afternoon, Miss Choi. What brings you here?”
Since the inception of your relationship, your office had been a sanctuary from further developing it with Arin. Whenever she visited, it was always under the guise of having difficulty with your classes, going over a graded test, or something narrowly related to academia. Mostly, it became an excuse to flirt around you without any other lingering students around. But you knew it wouldn’t stay like that forever.
“Can't a student just say hello?" she asked, standing in the doorway and flashed a rather suspicious smile.
“Of course,” you said, returning a rather muted smile of your own. “But my office hours haven't started yet.”
“Oh, my apologies. I must have remembered your hours wrong, professor.” The way she smirked meant she didn’t, yet you wouldn’t dare turn away such a pretty face.
“Would you like me to come back?”
“No, of course not. You already came all this way, so please, come on in.” After further opening the door for Arin to enter, she slipped inside, and made sure to leave as little gap as possible between your bodies so you could breathe in her aromatic perfume.
“Well, if you insist. I do have some time to spare,” Arin said, as she closed the door behind her and locked it. You knew that look, that glint in her eyes when she walked into your office.
“Please have a seat, Miss Choi.”
Gesturing to your spacious red couch across the room, Arin sauntered over, taking a seat and crossed her legs. She took a look around while you remained in your office chair, unprepared for whatever facade she had for visiting.
“Aren’t you going to sit next to me, professor?” she asked, patting the empty cushion next to her with those unavoidable doe eyes staring into your soul. “This couch feels a little lonely for just one person…”
And just like that, the protective barrier you built up began to crumble. Because your office had been the last place that hadn’t been defiled, the last place that you hadn’t shoved Arin up against the wall and whispered in her ear all the sinful things you were going to do to her. Certainly not out of guilt, because banging a stunning girl like Arin would be worth sacrificing your livelihood.
Against your better judgment, you took a sip of coffee and occupied the empty seat on Arin’s left. Her smile widened, and she immediately squeezed your thigh, a clear indicator that this was more than just a simple hello from a student when she looked up with that unavoidable gaze. “It’s so good to see you, professor.”
You could easily lean in to kiss Arin, the shiny gloss applied on her mouth attracted your lips to her like a magnet, but there had to be at least an attempt to keep up the front that this was nothing but a friendly visit, that your student wanted a chat and nothing else.
“Good to see you too, Miss Choi. Your classes going well?”
With a nod, she scooted closer, and kept her hand squeezing your thigh, focusing every little bit of her attention on you. “They’re going…fine,” she said in an unconvincing tone. “I’m not failing any at the moment.”
That last part piqued your curiosity, because if she performed as poorly in your class as she did her other ones, then well, her GPA would be doomed. Granted, Arin was a straight A student in your class, mostly due to your little arrangement, so at least she had some buffer built up there.
“Do you mind if I get a little bit more…comfortable, professor?”
A dangerous question, that In your mind—could mean anything. But whatever she had planned, were it even a genuine innocent question, you hesitated to say yes, but on the other hand, wanted to offer whoever came to visit you the highest degree of comfort.
“Not at all, be my guest.” Hopefully, you wouldn’t regret offering that invitation.
So after giving a courteous nod, Arin did just that, slipped her heels off, then carefully placed them out of the way. Next, she lifted her immaculate legs off the ground and rested them—right on your lap.
“Much better.”
If there was a modicum of shame left, it flew out the window when you became her footrest, not that you would be upset when every last inch of Arin’s legs became a feast for your eyes—and you were eating well. Not content with mere glances, you openly stared, and who could blame you when those beautiful, creamy legs never seemed to end, partnered with luscious thighs belonging around your head like earmuffs, and even her bare feet, which you adored kissing, drove you crazy.
Her figure was nothing but flawless, and while there hadn’t been a single inch of Arin’s body that you hadn’t kissed, licked, or sucked—you still drooled over her praiseworthy legs, thankful every time she came to your class in a short skirt or tight little dress that fought for your attention.
You had to face facts, because the only reason your clothes weren’t already in a heap, and you weren’t bottoming Arin out, was your own weird sense of self-preservation. That maybe, if you spurned her advances in the one place where you actually had the most privacy, that your job wouldn’t be in jeopardy. Like you hadn’t fingered her in the library with a hand over that pretty mouth, or like you hadn’t made her choke on your cock backstage in the theatre hall, and you certainly hadn’t pounded her against the refrigerator in the teacher’s lounge, praying every second no other professors needed a quick dose of caffeine.
Again, you were (both) guiltless throughout every encounter, selfish in every manner. After all, why wouldn’t you be,
when you had complete access to Arin’s body, free to explore it any way you pleased on a regular basis. Casting away the last bit of doubt aside, you rubbed Arin’s soft feet and kissed the tops of them, then moved down to her ankles, before caressing her smooth as silk legs all the way up to her thighs that brought unimaginable bliss when you squeezed them.
“If I recall, don’t you have a class soon, Miss Choi?” you asked, and couldn’t resist roaming your fingertips up and down her perfect legs, those divine thighs a path to heaven in your hands. Brightly smiling, Arin tilted her head back in enjoyment as your hands brushed against her warm flesh, your touch driving her equally crazy. It was almost regrettable that her position didn’t let you kiss and lick those mouthwatering thighs, but there was no need to be greedy when they felt so good and pillowy soft.
“You remembered. I do, but I’d rather ditch it. Getting dicked down by my favorite professor is a much better use of time. Wouldn’t you say?” Arin couldn’t hold back a smirk from forming on her lips, tossing out any subtlety in her words.
“I thought you were just here to say hello.”
“I was, but since I’m already here, I might as well make it worth your while…” Arin said, as one of her bare feet began to rub your inner thigh, moving dangerously towards your crotch. Before you could take your next breath, both of her feet felt up your cock, her toes teasing enough to make a bulge form in your pants. Powerless to stop her, you tried to stifle a moan under your breath, but failed, unable to hold back any thoughts while Arin massaged you through your pants, your cock stiffening uncomfortably so within mere seconds.
“You’re getting hard already, professor. Doesn’t that feel good? When I tease your cock like this?” she asked, a question with only one answer. The increasing friction on your shaft only served to fill the lust reserves in your body, because, without a doubt—Arin wouldn’t be leaving your office without getting a proper dickdown.
“Yewon—“
“Yes, professor?”
“That dress—“
“What about it? It’s pretty, isn’t it?”
“It is, but—get rid of it.”
“It would be my pleasure.” With no hesitance, she rose up and let herself be the center of attention, leaving you with a throbbing erection in her wake. Unsure where to direct your focus, your eyes wandered her body, from her thighs to her tiny little waist, to that teasing amount of cleavage, but eventually ended up drawn to her beautiful, angelic face and that vivacious smile.
“This dress? You want it off me?” she asked, grasping the zipper of her dress, the gateway to releasing that burdensome barrier that opposed your desires. “Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show, professor.”
Despite your initial protests, your anticipation peaked as Arin began to zip down her dress, her lustful gaze welded to you. Being patient remained a struggle, considering how hard she left you, and the amount of exposed skin in your sight eyes didn’t make things easier.
“Do you know what the best part of this dress is, professor?”
“How good it looks on you?”
Arin giggled as she touched her silky hair, running fingers through it. “No, while that’s also true, that’s the second best part.”
Turning away, she began to tug down her dress, spiking your anticipation. Because now, all you could do was watch the meticulous reveal of Arin’s smooth naked back, and the hints of perspiration that had formed from the temperature in the room. You had to calm your strong urge to lick every last drop clean.
“The best part is—”
As frustrating as it was to not be able to see those cute perky breasts, what would come next would make up for it. Arin hadn’t taken a single movement that wasn’t calculated, or that wasn’t made three steps in advance, and the lower her dress went, the wider your eyes grew.
“How easy it comes off…”
She slipped it down past her slender waist, revealing more and more of her body, until it fell off her hips, and gravity did its job. Finally, you were able to glimpse perfection in its purest form—that tight, bouncy butt barely concealed by a lacy blue thong wedged in between her plump ass cheeks. The true meaning of heaven, an ass so divine, it made it worth risking your tenure for.
You’d risk everything for an ass like that.
For now, Arin was always delighted to enable that risk, swaying her hips and shaking her enticing ass, as if to say you were making the right decision—even if at its core, it couldn’t be more wrong.
“Cute panties,” you blurted out, saying the first thing in your head to keep yourself under control, otherwise you’d rip them off her body and bury your face in those flawless cheeks.
“Thank you, professor. I wore them so you could take them off me,” she said, turning around just so you could see the grin on her features. But you were looking at so much more than just her pretty face, with her half-naked body proudly displayed, that only made the erection in your pants more unbearable.
“Yewon, come here.” Without giving her a chance to reply, you grabbed her delicate wrists, and pulled her back onto the couch, causing her to fall on top of you until your bodies were pressed flat together. Apparently an unexpected move, given the look on her face, when usually Arin initiated every advance.
“Professor…”
Exchanging lingering glances, that was the last word Arin spoke before you cupped one side of her face, and dove into her warm, pillowy soft lips, tasting hints of strawberry on her breath. When your lips met, it stripped all manner of formality, no longer were you just a student and a professor, but two individuals consumed with lust, tired of holding it in, tired of hiding it.
Much of Arin’s bare skin became available, a daunting task to keep focused on one spot, so your greedy hands freely roamed her body, groping as many different places as you could reach while your tongue invaded her mouth.
Her lips tasted just like you remembered, sweet and addicting, a taste you would chase to the ends of the earth for. Eager for more, you bit down on her bottom lip, only for her to return the favor, nipping against your own, mirroring every bit of aggression. The more things escalated, the less it felt like you were in your office, liable to have anyone knock at the door and interrupt.
Matching your fervor, Arin started to unbutton your shirt, using her fingers to tease your chest with every button undone, trailing downwards after a new spot uncovered. “You know, professor, maybe I should skip all my classes just to come visit you. Your office is very comfortable…”
As much as you wouldn’t mind that, you couldn’t be held responsible for her grades deteriorating. ”Your education is important, Miss Yewon.”
Her tongue slipped back in your mouth as the kiss deepened, lips pressed up against one another with much more desperation, much more saliva swapped. Arin ran fingers through your hair while you caressed her bare back, aching to map out her pale skin, moving lower, much lower, until you squeezed her ass and kneaded those delicious cheeks.
“If you insist. But only because if I got kicked out, you wouldn’t be able to rail me every day.” Whatever her motivation for keeping grades up was didn’t matter, as long as it meant you would keep meeting like this.
After breaking the liplock, you kissed the curve of her well-defined jaw, then moved towards her sensitive neck, making her even more hot and bothered—but you had to be careful not to leave any marks that she wouldn’t be able to cover up easily. The same couldn’t be said for Arin, who had the unfair advantage to do just that, opening your shirt up and left a barrage of wet kisses and lip prints on your bare chest.
“Mwah, that’s much better,” Arin said, and you could see the temptation in her eyes to leave lipstick marks on your cheek, neck, or anywhere else plainly visible. But instead, she ran her fingertips up and down your lip-stained chest, then cupped your face with her cold hands. “I can feel how hard you are. Shouldn’t I do something about that?”
“Later. Wanna taste you right now. Need to shove my tongue in your pretty little cunt.”
You could see the disappointment in Arin’s beautiful eyes, because if she came all this way without filling her throat with dick at least once, it would be a waste.
“At least let me get your cock wet, professor,” she pleaded, as she traced the outline of your bulge, and you could hardly deny her when she looked at you like that, licking her lips with seduction, plump lips that were absolutely made for delivering the best blowjobs imaginable.
“Alright, fine. Show me what those cock sucking lips can do."
“At once, professor.” Not wasting any time, Arin unzipped your pants, pulled them down to your knees, and immediately fished your cock out of your boxers. While she stroked your length, her lips returned to yours, keeping her taste lingering in your mouth, earning you some much necessary relief.
“This really belongs in my mouth,” she said, tightening her grip on your shaft, and pumped with more deft strokes. As she jerked you off quicker and made you moan, her parted lips continued to pin down your own, and her tongue tantalized the inside of your mouth.
Delivering another wet, open mouth kiss, her lips then journeyed down your body, adding more smudged lipstick to your exposed flesh. Arin tugged off your pants down to your ankles as soon as she reached your waist, and divested your boxers, causing your stiff cock to spring to attention. “There we go, all for me.”
With her gaze fixated on you, she flattened her tongue against the base of your shaft, and slowly dragged her way up, then planted a deep, messy kiss on the tip of your cock. Swirling her wet tongue around, Arin then flicked against your leaking slit, lapping up every drop, and alternated between tender kisses and soft licks. When she sensed you had your fill of teasing, her lips parted, enveloping your swollen cockhead that she gently sucked.
You uttered no more than a groan, and leaned your head back against the couch armrest, watching Arin go to work. Her head bobbed while her delicate hands squeezed both thighs, nails digging in to your skin, and those sensual lips applied a deeper suction that hollowed her cheeks.
“Relax, professor. Let me please you. Let me make you melt…”
Her seductive eyes studied your every move, while her lips swallowed up more shaft, bottoming down to your base with ease as her throat relaxed. When she came back up, a sheen of warm saliva covered your shaft, and she repeated the journey, those hungry lips slurping on every inch that filled her throat.
Arin maintained a steady rhythm and teased your balls, toying with them between her fingers, fondling them while your shaft became saturated with more saliva, spilling down the lips of her mouth.
“God, Yewon, you make me feel so good,” you moaned, falling apart while Arin sucked you off and added as much stimulation as possible by playing with your balls, her lips testing your resolve. The way her head bobbed never stayed consistent for long, and varied from frantic to sluggish lazy strokes. But the way she held you down her throat didn’t, keeping you there for several seconds without any struggle, eyes on you for the entire ride.
It all made you want to return the favor tenfold. With your cock plenty wet, you kept your eyes glued to how well Arin deepthroated your cock with ease, almost hesitant to stop her, not wanting the stream of pleasure to dissipate.
“Yewon, let me taste you now.”
Arin complied, but not without a few more sinful slurps that drove you wild, as she released your cock with a loud pop that let you see how much your cock glistened under the lights. Momentarily, you stood up off the couch and gestured towards the armrest while you kicked the rest of your clothes away. She got your message loud and clear, swiftly getting on her knees and bent over, sticking out that perfect, plump ass to you that you couldn’t get behind any faster.
Looking over her shoulder, Arin leaned more over the armrest, and pressed her thong-clad ass against your aching erection. Your eyes glazed over from the lack of blinking, wondering how such a delicious ass existed that belonged to such a pretty girl, another unanswerable question while you caressed her soft cheeks. Even if you couldn't help but lustfully stare at those covered cheeks, you'd have a stiff neck if you persisted. In one swift motion, you peeled Arin’s tiny thong off her hips, granting your eyes the blessing of that fully exposed ass, alongside her gorgeous, appetizing cunt.
“Fuck,” you mumbled under your breath and didnt waste a second in groping her ass, getting your fingertips in that soft delicate flesh, massaging it gently before outlining the curve of it with your needy fingers. Arin responded in soft moans while you began to pepper in little small kisses to her ass, kissing every inch you could touch.
“Your ass is fucking amazing, Yewon. Have I ever told you that?”
“You’ve mentioned it once or twice, Professor. And almost every time we meet,” she giggled, savoring your adoration of her deliciously ample buttcheeks. God, you could do this all day, those bare cheeks silky soft to the touch, lured in with no chance of escape, so you did what anyone who had ever seen Arin in a short skirt in person never had the chance to—and buried your face in that ass.
You were more than content to suffocate there, nestled between the softest flesh imaginable that would make a pillow jealous, inhaling the sweet scent of Arin. But you couldn’t ignore your hunger, nor could you ignore that divine pussy, or those juicy lips that would give your taste buds a workout. One more inhale, followed by one more moment to rub your face all over those exquisite cheeks, and then you moved down to tease her inner thighs with kisses, alternating between each and gave them the individual attention deserved.
“Professor, you said you were going to taste me,” she whined, her growing impatience becoming more apparent. A little teasing never hurt, but when you had a decadent dessert offered up on a silver platter, it was only polite to dive in.
Spreading her thighs for better access, you dragged your tongue up and down her slit, ending her desperation while coating your tongue with her sweet juices. The first morsel of her tangy taste left you dying for more, and with your hands still squeezing her tight ass, you traced her slick-trapped folds with your tongue, gathering up her nectar with a craving for more. Within seconds, that thirst would be quenched when you darted your tongue against Arin’s sensitive clit, and drank up whatever juices escaped her cunt,
“So fucking delicious,” you hissed, as your tongue became more frantic, and explored the pink flesh offered up, taking a journey of pleasure with no destination. “I could eat you all fucking day.”
“But then who would teach your students? Education is important,” Arin mocked, jerking back when you sucked on her swollen clit in response, which made her thighs quiver against your face.
“Just for that, I think I might fuck you. Harder than you deserve.” Not only for her benefit, but yours, because while you enjoyed every moment of devouring your slutty little student, that ache in your cock became harder to endure—you desperately needed somewhere to shove your shaft into.
“I’m all yours, professor.” Like she was ever anything but, leaning into your touch, practically chasing your tongue while it slid between all that slippery flesh. Then again, your tongue and cock seemed to have different priorities on the matter, fighting for control of Arin’s perfect little pussy.
Moments away from insertion, you wondered how sturdy the lock to your office was. If somehow, someone managed to break in and caught both of you naked in your office, both of your lives would inevitably be fucked, exponentially yours more so. Sleeping with your student was one thing, doing it in the relatively public space of the office you worked years to acquire was another. Almost without a , you’d lose your PhD, your master’s degree, and certainly your entire career. But honestly, you had no time to give a shit about that when you had the hottest student in your class who willingly offered her body up like the free coffee in the teacher’s lounge.
The reality of it all made it hard to care about when you had such a round ass and tight little cunt inches away from your cock. You could see it in Arin’s pretty eyes, the need, the desire, the look of why are you still not inside me yet? A question you would ask yourself, and find an immediate answer when you pushed your shaft inside her heavenly cunt.
You couldn’t find words to voice your pleasure and just groaned when you entered Arin. Unfathomable bliss filled your body when your cock moved in slow plunges, those clinging walls squeezing tight, and urged you deeper. Neither of you spoke for several thrusts, because what was there to say, other than praise, how big you felt inside her, and how utterly drenched she was. That intense, audible wetness when you moved inside Arin’s wet warmth would make sure you planned in advance for next time, because red fabric stained far too easily.
“Professor—“ Arin managed to spit out, a word without meaning, without any follow up, but you were happy to just hear her pretty voice while your hips smacked against those full, rippling cheeks as you began to bottom out her needy cunt.
Her pussy had never felt more incredible. Maybe it was the danger of getting caught that added an extra oomph to the end of your pistoning hips, or the three-day weekend that kept your bodies away from each other an extra day that made every thrust that much more pumped full of ecstasy. Not that you couldn’t visit each other, as you certainly ended up tangled in Arin’s bed sheets on multiple occasions and vice versa, but it dampened the rush.
While Arin thoroughly enjoyed the thrashing you were giving her wet little pussy, being extra careless of how loud the smacks of hot flesh were, you couldn’t have been more preoccupied on that way that perfect ass bounced. Especially after a harsh spank or two that left a mark on her pristine buttcheeks, and for some extra stimulation, you slipped your thumb up her tight little asshole, feeling her clench tighter around your cock.
Judging by the deeper moans let out, she was much more gratified when you simultaneously penetrated her two holes. If only Arin had the same glass dildo with her in that very first selfie sent—she’d never forget the look on your face when you mistakenly checked your phone in the middle of class.
“This pussy is unbelievable, fuck—“
Arin couldn’t help but laugh at how quickly you were breaking down. “I know. You must love my pussy, and the way I cream all over you. But wouldn’t you rather have your perfect cock inside my ass? You've been staring at it nonstop since I walked into your office."
Caught red-handed, you couldn’t admit otherwise. Not that anyone could blame you when she wore such short skirts that hardly covered up her cheeks, or on the rare occasion—didn’t, and conveniently “forgot” to wear underwear. It was rather absurd that your cock wasn’t buried inside her ass with as much time as you spent gawking and worshiping it. But there was only one little problem. “A much as I would love to plow your ass, I don’t have any—“
“Lube? Check my bag.”
One might have questioned why a student would keep a bottle of lube on their belongings, but not you. Not a second thought went by while you rummaged through her bag, moving aside books, notepads, lotions, and makeup pouches until you found your desired treasure.
“Warm me up a little?” Arin asked when you rejoined her on the couch. Not that she really needed it, but moreso wanted it, and your tongue hadn’t gotten the action it deserved. Setting aside the bottle for now, your tongue took the same route, licking a long stripe up her wet cunt, and made a detour towards her puckered hole. This time, you refrained from any teasing, instead licking short circles around her asshole, then spread her fleshy cheeks wide to grant better access and plunged your tongue inside.
“Professor!”
Arin’s beautiful gasps filled your ears as you spread her cheeks wider and lapped at her asshole, using your tongue like a dildo, hitting every little nerve that caused a chain reaction of bliss, a parade of stimulation. You never took the same path twice while you tonguefucked her tight little hole, using sloppy movements to saturate the rim of her ass in saliva, and refused to let your tongue rest, not that a break would ever be necessary when Arin tasted so good. If her juicy cunt was a dessert, then for sure her ass was a buffet you could feast upon and never quite be full.
“I wonder what people would think if they walked in right now to see my professor’s tongue shoved up my asshole.”
“I think they’d be wondering where the back of the line was.”
That small grin from her lips disappeared into an open mouth moan while you continued to tongue her sweet asshole, and dug your fingers into the soft flesh of her buttcheeks, keeping them spread wide as they could go to satiate your appetite.
“Mmm, fuck, that tongue feels so good. You really know how to eat a girl’s ass, don’t you, professor?” Unwilling to say a word that would interrupt your meal, you accepted her praise in silence and swirled your tongue in every direction imaginable, slobbering all over that tasty tight hole.
“God, professor, you’re amazing. But I think I’m warmed up enough, don’t you?” With much reluctance you would agree, even if meant your tongue would have to leave her beautiful backside, but the main event would soon await.
That didn’t mean you couldn’t enjoy one more moment filling your hands with Arin’s cheeks, as you admired her glistening asshole that would soon be reintroduced to your greedy cock. She sank down into the couch; her face pressed down and ass raised up, not wanting to be empty much longer. Naturally, it would be hard for anyone to stay idle with those cheeks between your fingers, with such a spankable ass at your mercy, and you had to pry yourself from fondling that ass, or you’d never stop.
You weren’t in a rush when you lubed up your cock and slid two fingers inside Arin’s saliva drenched asshole, adding more slick liquid than necessary. A poor excuse to test that puckered hole once more, using the pretense of preparation to finger her tight ass, a preview of that intense clench that you’d feel more of later.
“Fuck, don’t keep me waiting, professor. Need you in my ass, stretching me out like you always do. Stop teasing and fill me already.”
Arin wanted it almost more than you did, and it was far too easy to keep her on edge, but eventually two fingers became one, until your last digit withdrew from her ass, leaving her restless with anticipation. All out of patience yourself, you didn’t dare dream of making Arin wait much longer, and guided your cockhead between those luscious cheeks as you nudged against her divine asshole.
With little reason to prolong the inevitable, you caught Arin’s gaze when she looked over her shoulder again, eyes brimming with impatience. You took a necessary deep breath, one that Arin matched, and sank into her hot, tight asshole, already overwhelmed by that impossible tightness. One plunge wasn’t enough, and you didn’t stop until the tip of your cock disappeared, swallowed up by an ass sculpted by the gods, with the additional pressure such a mind-numbing sensation that made you throb like you never had before.
“More, professor. More,” Arin pleaded, unsatisfied by just your thick cockhead penetrating her snug little hole, a request you had no intention to deny. For a moment, you pulled out so you could rewatch the way your cock slid inside her plump ass, and her body accepted you with ease, her snug walls gripping your cock much harsher than her cunt.
“You’re so goddamn tight, Yewon, fuck,” you groaned with both hands firmly on those perfect pale cheeks, and pumped into Arin at an agonizingly slow pace, stretching her out more and more, and savored every last movement before you were even balls deep. Fitting your cock into Arin’s tight little asshole didn’t come easy, even after several deep breaths and relaxed muscles, but it was a struggle you would gladly take on, all in the name of pleasure.
“Deeper, professor, go deeper. Please let me take all of you, stretch my little asshole.”
She whimpered and groaned the more your girth impaled her ass, arching her back higher, and that constricting grip around your shaft intensified the deeper you went, further provoking you to fill her up to the hilt. Almost flush to the base against her firm cheeks, you watched the lustful expression etched on Arin’s face, taking note of her open mouth, widened eyes, and how her palms flattened against the couch cushions, desperate to be stretched wider.
After a rather harsh movement of your hips, you lodged your cock deep inside her asshole until you were finally balls deep, immediately taking another thrust, then a third, experiencing such sharp pleasure that would only repeat itself as you buried yourself in those warm depths, opening her up to allow the deepest penetration manageable. “This what you wanted, Yewon? My cock all the way up this tight fucking asshole?”
Arin scrambled to grab onto anything, digging her fingers into the fabric of the couch.“Yes! Oh my god, you feel so good, so deep inside me. Keep me full like this, please—“
With a pleading look like that, you didn’t need any more persuasion. “Fucking slut. Look at you, dripping all over my couch. Gonna have fun explaining this to the custodian.”
“I can’t help it, professor, you fuck me so well. You’ll just have to get a new couch, I don’t think cum is easy to get out.”
“That depends how many loads I dump in you today.”
“Oh? Were you planning on going for round two, professor?”
“Yeah, Yewon. Thanks to you, I think my office hours are officially canceled today.”
Arin would be pleased that only she could see you today, knowing the reason why any student entering your office during specified hours would be met would a locked door, while on the other side she’d be flat on her back covered in sweat, on her knees, or bouncing on your cock.
Meanwhile, her greed got the best of her, and she began to fuck herself back on your cock, moaning with every push against you, eager to be split open even more. Even better than that, it freed up your hands, and gave free rein to slap that bouncy bubble butt, something you desired the moment she walked into your office.
With much delight you gave a quick spank to both cheeks, not letting time pass without the soft flesh rippling, and slapped each cheek one by one, again, and again, and again, the sound growing louder with every smack.
The slaps on her ass came in succession without delay, and each rippled her cheeks in a hypnotic fashion, filling the room with sounds of moans and whimpers. As your attention shifted to one cheek, each smack given turned the delicate flesh redder, and the only respite offered came in between harsh strikes when you massaged her tender cheeks.
And you were just getting started.
While Arin kept fucking herself on your cock and opened herself more, you gave harder and harder spanks on her delicious backside, contemplating how an ass could have so much insane jiggle, every smack generating more and more recoil on those luscious cheeks.
“I love it when you spank me, professor. Spank me while I take your cock up my ass, spank me like the naughty little student I am.”
Her ass rippled in a way that could only be described as beautiful, while a loud gasp or desperate cry for more left her lips following more reddened flesh. Arin had some of the best hips you had the pleasure to grab, and they never stopped moving as she slammed her cheeks down on your cock, ensuring you stayed embedded inside her puckered hole, and refused to let you leave that unrelenting tightness.
The flesh of her ass became so red, so sensitive, that you had to cease for a moment just to savor the noises she made, and rubbed the sting out of one side, letting it return when you flattened your palm and smacked her thick ass like the crack of a whip.
Looking down, both of Arin’s asscheeks were the way you loved them—bright red, tender, and plastered with palm prints. You would make sure they remained that way for days, as you doubled down, smacking either side of her ass in harsh succession, before grabbing her hips and reclaimed control of her ass. All those smacks on her rear combined with those thrusts she took inside escalated her arousal, making it easier to pound her ass. And you did so without holding back, fucking her into the couch the way she deserved, guided by the sounds of sweet bliss that left her lips.
Arin was right—you would need a whole new couch after this. You could see how much of her arousal dripped down her thighs, already staining the fabric that matched the color of her sore buttcheeks, and that was before the thick load that would soon leak out of her.
“Professor—“ Arin had trouble forming words, thanks to your cock repeatedly gaping her asshole and impaling her insides, melting away into bliss until it was all she could think about. “God, you fuck me so well, professor. But why haven’t you cum yet? Don’t you need to?”
Eventually, you would, but not until you spent enough time reaming her tight little body, firmly planted in Arin’s asshole, that she would dream about how good your cock felt inside her. “Because I’m enjoying your ass way too much. Gonna keep fucking it as long as I can until my balls get drained.”
“Well, then keep fucking me, professor. Fuck me until you fill my tight asshole up all the way. I’ll be a good little cum dump. Can’t wait to feel that hot load inside me…”
A pretty girl like Arin uttering such vulgarity like that drove you almost as insane as the ass you were pounding. Seeing her plump cheeks alone with their vivid red hue kept you going, and it was more than enough to keep you rock hard, even if your hips were at their limit. But you had enough stamina left to keep yourself buried in her ass, watching every little detail on her perfect, sweaty face etched with ecstasy.
One more smack on her delicious ass became a lit fuse of unavoidable tension manifesting in your balls that meant every thrust now came with a countdown. But before you could reach the finish line, you kept your eyes glued to the heart-shaped ass your cock pummeled, chasing that edge while dancing on a tight-rope of bliss that you were bound to topple over at any moment.
Not even a black hole could contain your combined lust, or all your built-up carnal desires to wreck Arin’s impeccable body, because sometimes—there was nothing better than ruining something beautiful.
The sweat down her back, the way her disheveled hair clung to her naked skin, and the way she pleaded for you to cum, it all painted a highly detailed picture that you would put the finishing touches on by smacking your hips against her body one last time, then buried your shaft in that unforgettable tightness before you finally erupted inside her.
While you spilled thick semen into her ass, you couldn’t tell who needed this release more—but given how much you throbbed as your shaft emptied in her asshole, you had never felt this euphoric, groaning in relief while filling Arin to the brim. It wasn’t even a challenge to stay there, barely moving a muscle as her tight hole milked your cock dry, prolonging your unyielding twitches and throbs. The real feat would be pulling out, because even after your climax ran its course, you wanted nothing more but to stay inside that warmth, cockwarming her ass for eternity.
“P-professor…” Arin couldn’t say much, and your heavy breathing echoed her own. Every tired pant she made gave your cock a new twitch, like trying to empty more inside her body.
“Fuck, it feels so warm and thick inside me, professor. Wasn’t this worth canceling your office hours?” Way past your scheduled time, you hadn’t even remembered to put up a notice, but given your focus on destroying Arin’s ass, it was no wonder you hadn’t heard a single knock—hopefully nobody needed to meet up with you today, or maybe the cries of pleasure from inside spoke for you.
“This ass is worth canceling everything,” you said, as you began to catch your breath. Reluctantly, you began to withdraw from Arin, one little inch at time, until you were no longer inside her, and intently watched your cum leak out from her gaped asshole in a slow drip that became a thick downpour that stained her thighs, your couch, and anywhere else it pleased. You were powerless to save your couch, but you didn’t care. A worthy sacrifice.
Collapsing to one side of the cushions your body preferred, Arin came tumbling after, her sweaty body clinging against your own. “And having my professor pound my ass was worth missing class.”
You moved hair out of her eyes, as the two of you exchanged tired smiles. “I guess I should be responsible and get ready to teach my next class.”
As a pout formed on her lips, Arin kissed your bare skin, never yielding her insatiable hunger. “That’s no fun. When is it?”
“In about forty-five minutes.” In actuality, you had an hour, but you’d need to locate a shower and figure out how the hell to make the smell of sex in your office disperse before then. And the stains on the couch would be a problem for a different day.
“Perfect. Just enough time to rail me again. Because I’m not leaving your office without another load inside me.”
“And you’re not leaving wearing those pretty panties either.”
“Deal, professor. They’ll be waiting on your desk.”

“While I hope that isn’t your intention, staring any harder at the fire won’t make it any stronger. No matter how accomplished you may be.”
You feel the muscles in your brows relax in the dark of the night. Interesting, that. Considering how you don’t recall them furrowing so tightly in the first place.
Hearing the scratch of shoes against stone, you feel him make himself more apparent, as he always did. Moving to stand beside you. Not resting his eyes upon your visage just yet. Choosing to study the dying embers you must have been glaring at in front of you.
He takes quite an awful amount of time in doing so, too. Whatever thought you might have been thinking about long gone from your grasp as his presence unnerves you.
You feel your hands clenching and unclenching to alleviate yourself.
Yet the very air around him still makes your head swim, and your blood boil.
He takes a deep breath, as if steeling his resolve, before turning to look at you.
“What’s on your mind?”
“Cut the shit, Dekarios. What do you want?”
He shudders at the use of his name, but raises his hand up in false surrender. Gesticulating with his arms and hands as much as he did when you last saw him this close up.
“I mean no harm, and I see no point in denying to remedy whatever rift may have come between us.” He motions to the both of you, as he speaks.
“Come now,” he moves to lessen your distance, but you only turn to keep facing the dying campfire as he continues.
“Surely whatever schoolyard taunts and transgressions exchanged aren’t worth jeopardizing our efforts in our search for a cure, hm?” There’s a hopeful lilt at the end in his voice. He looks almost sincerely apologetic as continues on. Words, lacking their usual garrulous nature, as if keeping things short and simple would appease you.
If you didn’t know any better, you’d say he was apologizing out of the goodness of his heart.
“And who told you to apologize this time? Was it our fiery friend, or ‘The Blade of Frontiers?’ Or perhaps even our closest confidante; Astarion?” He raises a finger up with a confused expression to counter, but you beat him to it.
“With all due respect, Mr. Dekarios, we can go on our merry little way without discussing this.” You still refuse to look at him as you settle on admiring your nails for a change of scenery.
“Perhaps we’ll find some other fortune altogether and be rid of our parasites in the mornings that follow! And our little truce will matter not once we part ways and we both return to where we belong.” You finally move towards your tent to close your conversation, but Gale seems to ignore the implication as he follows you.
“You can finally return home to your beloved tower in Waterdeep, and I will be happily rotting in my little hovel.” You make one final tilt of the head to look at him, as if turning your whole body would be too much of an effort or grace to bestow upon him.
“Good night, sir Archmage.” You huff out as you disappear into the flaps of your tent without even letting your old classmate a chance to retaliate.
He stares incredulously at the still swishing material of your sanctuary. He releases a heavy sigh that built up in him and walked back to his own space in the camp to stew in his thoughts.
His eyes catching on the spyglass that he set up right outside his tent with disappointment.
If things had gone pleasantly, he would’ve asked you to observe the stars with him, as they were clearer to see from here than in Baldur’s Gate.
He distantly recalls you wanting for one during your academy days as the view from your little hovel, as he once called it, was rather murky. What with all the factories in the area.
He takes one last look at your tent from his and shakes his head.
It eludes him why you’re so hostile around him.
And even more so when you’re nowhere near this way around the others. He figured you two would be closer, given your shared interests and trade.
Hells, he even admired you all those years ago. Watching you accomplish so much, despite many difficulties. He wonders if you’ve ever respected him in the same way.
He sees Wyll looking at him, and he shakes his head to tell him that he doesn’t feel like talking. Entering his own tent to turn in for the night.
Hoping for any good that the gods can afford them come first light.

centre of the universe ✧.*
a/n: 4 months later i'm back, so sorry guys. i got a little caught up. been missing daryl most of all too. i'm feeling a little rusty and tired but here's a cute little thing ig!
requested by: @pandarooooo-blog find the request here :)
summary: having married Negan in order to rescue Daryl from the Sanctuary, you found yourself, 9 months later, raising a kid of your own. the baby being Negan's, you hadn't been particularly enthusiastic to embrace the situation.
words: 1.2k
era: season 8-9, post-saviours
Sitting around Rick and Michonne's dining table embraced by the warm glow of the sky late into summer - what felt like a fever dream at it's best. The past year had left you bruised, emotionally and physically, Hell, you hadn't caught break since the world went to shit. But today, the air was pregnant with sweetness and laughter as you bathed in the company of your family. You stood up from the table once the feast was presumed finished. Your daughter giggled softly, cradled in your arms - her innocence a trait that you only mirrored while everybody fought for her attention.
Rosita imitated her best baby-voice, babbling some nonsensical rhetoric about her being "the cutest" and the "sweetest", while Rick reminisced about the days back on the road with Judith years ago. Noticing this, you thanked him sincerely, "You built this Rick, for Judith, for her," you gestured down to the precious being in your arms. "For all of us." The atmosphere was silent despite the extent of nods and smiles in agreement - the only sound was the sweet laughter of your darling girl.
Daryl, who had been standing by your side, broke the silence "She looks jus' like her mama," he spoke proudly, as though there were a part of him somewhere that wished he was the father; a notion that only remained at the forefront of Daryl's mind when he saw your sweet figure.
"Right?" you agreed, pursuing Daryl's gaze aside from the rest of group. Daryl, as loyal as ever, had stuck by your side during the pregnancy and made sure you were never hungry, uncomfortable, God forbid you were ever unsafe inside the walls. For that you were grateful. He remained your 'best friend', though, and a part of you needed him to know that you wanted him in other ways.
Tears came streaming down your face faster than you could register the situation. Two weeks ago, you kneeled before Negan and the Saviours in the depths of the night. A week later, you were married to Negan, letting him use you to his will only to set Daryl free from the cage they had him locked in. And sure, if that wasn't traumatic enough, this morning you discovered you were pregnant. With Negan's kid.
You were scared, hurt, resentful, but most of all in shock. The overwhelming emotions contained you thoroughly inside your house, and you had not been seen by anyone all day. When a knock arose at your bedroom door, you sprang to your feet and swiftly wiped away the tears that painted your face an unforgiving shade of pink.
"Who is it?" you sobbed, trying to hide your quavering, pitiful tone beneath the question.
"'S jus' me," It was Daryl. You could tell from the husky, gravelly voice behind the door. He sounded concerned. Composing yourself, you took one last look around the messy room before slowly clutching the cold doorknob and twisting it open. His figure towered over you, not threatening - the kind you had been used to - but barricading you from any dangers that stood between him and the rest of the world.
Daryl stood before you, not knowing what to say or do, searching for some trace of an answer in the absent, glassy expanse of your eyes. Absent, there were indeed, for each moment your body stood inside the walls of Alexandria, your mind was back there, in that 'Sanctuary'.
Another wave of tears came down your face before your clouded mind could form a coherent expression.
"Hey, hey, I got ya'," he soothed, drawing your frame into a tight hug, sheltered from anyone's presence, even in your own mind Negan's shadow seemed to dissipate into the encompassing swell of his chest. At least Daryl's stature provided you some respite; it was healing, momentarily. That was until he pulled way, wishing to understand, perhaps, why you were so upset. "Come on, let's siddown'-"
"I'm pregnant, Daryl, I don't know- I don't know what to.." you sobbed, returning to the embrace in an attempt to suppress the rhythmic pound that lay waste to your mind. Daryl, in his own state of shock, could do nothing but hold you. In truth, you did not wish for him to do anything else. Slowly, he walked you to your bedside, his touch not once faltering. With strong arms now safely caging you into his figure, you lay your head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Daryl..." you sighed, closing your eyes in search for some calm.
"Hey, no. You don't ever gotta say sorry, not to me," he gravelled, in that sweet, low voice of his. As he spoke into the crown of your head, you felt his words reverberate somewhere deep inside, moreso than you heard them. He was so tender with you.
"I'm scared," you began. You were embarassed to appear in this manner in front of Daryl. You didn't want to speak. Though you thought you owed him some expression of how you were feeling. "I hate him so much, y'know. I know you know. I hate him, for what he did to you. And me. I just thought," you weeped uncontrollably into Daryl's shoulder, at the notion that Negan - that evil man - would never escape your world. Daryl tried to console you, lifting your head up inches away from his own, though, he too, was flooded with memories and resentment indistinguishable from your own.
"What if my baby turns out like him?" you asked, in rhetoric. Lord knows, what kind of answer you expected.
"Shh.. Dun' think like that," he drawled, laying a gentle kiss on your forehead. The two of you had never been this close before.
"Yer' kid is gonna be strong, and kind, and beautiful.." he trailed off, cursing him damn mouth for running away from his brain. "Just like their momma."
"Daryl?" you spoke, softly, painting a number of maternal images at the forefront of his mind.
"Yeah?" he replied. Not once did he avert his gaze from your tear-stricken face.
"Will you stay.. with me? I'm scared... I don't wanna do this alone,"
"Of course, darlin'." From that moment on, Daryl never left your side.
The warm Virginian sun dipped below the walls of your home in the distance, evening winds stirred, gently, hardly noticeable. You cradled your beautiful baby girl in your arms, your mind empty of all negative thoughts. Just for a little while, everything was perfect. It seemed almost strange, that you were now happier than ever in this post-apocalyptic world.
Daryl strolled up to the gazebo where you perched with your daughter. The setting sun lit up your face like you were the centre of the universe. The centre of his universe, perhaps. It was hypnotic, seeing you in this way, so loving and maternal, more beautiful than ever.
"Hey," you smiled, watching the archer approach cautiously. He was always like this - acting as though his mere presence was a disturbance. You thought quite the opposite. "You can sit down Daryl, you won't wake her," you said sweetly. He simply stood there, an arm leaning on the gazebo fence, smiling down at you. So you stared right back up at him, wondering if he would take you up on your offer.
"I love ya', Y/N,"
"I know. C'mere,"

Melting the Ice -Coriolanus Snow x Reader
Tumblr media
AN: I just watched the ballad of songbirds and snakes and loved it. Hope you enjoy!
Snow stood at the edge of the grand ballroom, his stern gaze sweeping over the crowd of well-dressed Capitol elites. The air was filled with laughter, music, and the intoxicating scent of power. Yet, amidst it all, he felt an inexplicable emptiness. He loathed these gatherings, finding solace only in the corners and shadows, far away from the superficiality that dominated his world.
His eyes landed on you, a captivating figure that stood out from the rest. Your vibrant smile and genuine laughter reached his ears, capturing his attention like no one else ever had. You were a beacon of warmth in the icy sea of the Capitol, and unknowingly, you sparked something within him.
Curiosity mingled with trepidation as Snow approached you, his heart pounding in his chest. "May I have this dance?" he asked, his voice betraying a hint of nervousness.
You turned towards him, your eyes widening in surprise. "Coriolanus Snow! I didn't expect to see you here. Of course, I'd love to dance."
As the music enveloped you, Snow's hand lightly rested on your waist, and he pulled you closer, finding solace in the simplicity of the moment. With every step, his aversion to these gatherings melted away, replaced by the warmth that emanated from your presence.
As the night progressed, Snow found himself drawn to you, like a moth to a flame. He realized that he was no longer content hiding in the shadows. You ignited a fire within him, a desire for something more.
Weeks turned into months, and the bond between you and Snow grew stronger. He found solace in your company, sharing secrets, dreams, and fears that he had never dared to reveal to anyone before. In your presence, he felt seen, understood, and loved.
But as life often does, it threw obstacles in your path. The Hunger Games approached, and with it, the weight of the Capitol's expectation loomed over Snow. He wrestled with conflicting emotions, torn between his ambition and his affection for you.
"I can't let go of my dreams, Y/N," Snow confessed, his voice laced with regret. "I have worked for this opportunity my entire life. I can't abandon it, even for you."
Your eyes shimmered with unshed tears as you reached for his hand, holding it firmly between yours. "Coriolanus, I understand your ambitions, but is it worth losing yourself? Is it worth forsaking the love and humanity that we've discovered together?"
His heart felt heavy as he struggled to find an answer. In that moment, he realized the walls he had built around himself were crumbling, and he couldn't bear to lose the one person who had taught him the true meaning of love.
With a sigh of resignation, Snow pulled you into an embrace, his grip tightening. "No, it's not worth it. I can't let these games define me. I choose you, Y/N. I choose us."
With renewed determination, Snow started to make small rebellions within the daunting framework of the Games. He subtly used his intelligence and influence to protect the weak and the innocent, to challenge the cruelty that had permeated their world.
And as he fought for a sliver of humanity amidst the chaos, he found himself fighting for you too. Love was no longer a mere distraction; it was his motivation, his anchor in the storm.
Days turned into months, and a new Snow emerged. A man who wielded power with compassion, who fought against injustice, all the while leaning on your unwavering support.
Together, you navigated the treacherous waters of the Capitol, your love acting as a shield against the darkness. And in your arms, Snow found a sanctuary, a refuge from the brutal reality outside.
As the night drew to a close, and you shared a passionate kiss, Snow realized that for the first time in his life, he no longer felt winter in his heart. The ice had melted, and in its place, love bloomed.
