My Thoughts While Watching Memories 2020 Discs 1 - 3

Had multiple people ask me to post my thoughts and feelings about moments from memories as I make my way through the DVDs. Here are my thoughts condensed and definitely not all of them or over everything from the first 3 discs! 💜💜 Like I said before, I typed most of this out as texts to @1imstillme3 and I'll mostly be copy/pasting over here with some refinements and adds in. If you are not wanting to see spoilers for things in the memories DVDs and talk about moments that happen, please just skip over this post!

This whole first Disc was just the concert performance. It was amazing, as we should all know. My favorite performances personally were Boyz with Fun (Tae and Hobi! And they were all just having fun!), Just One Day (Jin and JK with the rose! the smiles!), the previews of UGH/00:00 (their voices, their engery, Jimin! Yoongi!), the units (i love them so much. Namjoon having a blast in particular and Vmin giggling at the end), Boy with Luv (the umbrellas!!) and Gogo (Jungkook! Their energy!). I'm bad at narrowing things down. Sue me. Also Jungkook laying directly in front of the TV with a giant smile watching Vmin perform friends and then comparing his pinky to Jimins as soon as Vmin get back to the group makes me SOFT. Hobi making bracelets for all the members over Vlive and then giving tbem out to everyone in between songs was the sweetest freaking thing. He is the sweetest man in the world. Protect him. Including ARMY in the group hug at the end was insanely adorable.

Disc 2

BangBangCon Behinds, including VCR, Rehearsals, Dance Practice and D-Day making films:

It was the absolute cutest. Bang bang con morning of interactions and how they all showed up to the set were almost separated by unit which was funny. The 2seokkook unit with Jamais Vu. And then NamGi and Vmin showed up at varying times together too. It was cute.

Hobi, Jin and JK are eating before they get ready for Bang Bang Con and they are 100% parenting the hell outta JK 🤣 worried about his sleep, how he is eating, if he is getting enough sunlight. "I told you to get 30 minutes of sunlight a day, it's good for you" JK just smiling and nodding along.

Hobi leading dance practices and giving advice is one of my favorite things to watch. Like 100% absolutely. And Jin worked so hard, relearning the choreo on his own time since he had to miss group rehearsals the first 2 days.

Jimin took charge a lot during practice with the umbrellas, it was really nice to see him working so hard to get the details right. Hobi stayed later than everyone to review details of their practice all the time and remember what they needed to work harder on the next day. Just main dancer things

Jimin praising Tae for his idea to do BWL with Umbrellas and the different things he came up with for the performance. And then both Jihope reaching over to touch on him and praise him. It was so sweet and cute.

NamJin saying that their families were watching BBC together too 😭😭 all so precious. It is obvious they all worked so so hard to give us the best show they could. It was clear that it was odd and weird for them to do this performance for the first time without ARMY but they made it work. Yoongi kept saying make some noise anyway and Jin kept trying to include us in their conversations regardless. JK kept reading the comments and being so cute. I love them so much!

Disc 3

MOTS7 Dance Practice Film:

Remember the clip of JM teaching Tae cartwheels and how soft it was? What they didn't include was JK being junping when he saw them and teasing V by saying HE can do cartwheels and being like I can even do it on both sides. And then did some cartwheels and almost kicked Jin in the face 🤣🤣🤣 Suga also was so perplexed. He was asked what are you doing like 3 times and finally was just "No really. Why are we doing cartwheels right now? What is happening?" And JK was doing his cartwheels and vmin totally ignored him to continue doing their own thing. Namjoon also was asking why they are doing this right now and was confused. Lmao just Maknae line things I guess. But still that was such a cute moment with Vmin.

Jimin is so hardworking. So talented. He took charge so much with helping the members with things and with his solo dances here

Everyone complaining about being stiff and needed to stretch more because of so much practice. Everyone expect 3J, dancers extraordinaire.

MOTS7 Jacket Shooting Film:

Jin should be illegal omg. He bodied this whole shoot. Every single concept. But Especially the first one. My goodness.

3J have so much fun together. It's not stop laughs every single time they do anything and they slay it at the same time. One of my favorite units ever. There was SO MUCH jihope in the MOTS7 jacket shooting video as a whole. Hobi was all over Jimin quite often.

The pyramid photo shoot was the most chaotic thing I witnessed through this whole jacket shoot. They could not stop giggling. There was so much ass grabbing. JK laying his whole body on top of Jimin connecting at every body point, literally don't think he was on anyone but JM lol. Tae looked like he grabbed Jimin's ass at one point. Tae with his hands all over Jins hips. Hobi literally grabbing and shaking Jins ass. All the hands going everywhere. All the guys teasing each other, Jin yawning. Honestly was this just an excuse to touch each other? You don't need one! 🤣 Suga just peacefully perched on top of everyone else with no worries of being squished

Honestly this whole shoot was just them having fun and sharing their positive energy with each other.

Shadow and Ego Making Films:

When Jimin visited Hobi on the Ego set he said he drove 3 hours to see him. And got all shy when Hobi was telling him how good he looked and he was dressed so nicely. And Jimin said he wanted to look nice to see Hobi 🥺 All the other guys were recording for the album so Jimin couldn't stay long because he wanted to also visit Yoongi and then he also had to go and do some recording. They work so hard and Jimin still made sure he went to see Sope on their sets and you can see how much it meant to both Hobi and Yoongi to see him and get that visit. They both perked up and had more energy after Jimin left and they continued shooting. Jimin gave them so many compliments and told Yoongi how cool he was and the set was when he watched him shoot for a bit. And he brought them both ice cream treats. An angel

Sope were also so sweet and clingy even though they weren't together. Talking about each other and wondering how they were doing for their shoots since it was at the same time. Video calling each other during break. Getting videos from the staff of what the other was doing AT THE MOMENT on their set lol just the most precious bond 🥺🥺

Black Swan MV Making Film:

Remember how everyone was saying jimin was jealous of the taekook backhug at the end of the black swan MV shooting? Or that JK was trying to make him jealous or that they broke up. Or there was some kind of tension between KM? Yeah, we get like an extra like 3 or 4 minutes of them talking during that part in memories and through that whole time, TK are just looking at Jimin like he hung the moon and the stars as he laughs and talks about the MV. How they shooting in LA and how cool Hobi is for shooting CNS internationally here in LA before. And him smiling and looking fondly back at the both of them. Jimin was laughing and having a good time but also he was exhausted. When it wasn't his turn to talk, he wasn't as animated, he was tired. If he made eye contact with TK, he looked so fond at them, and if someone else spoke to him, he responded with smiles. He was so obviously not upset and TK weren't doing anything wrong and JK wasn't trying to be petty. He looked so in love with JM honestly. We know how much he liked Jimins black swan look.

I talk ALOT about my other favorite parts of the black swan memories stuff in previous posts. You can find them on my masterlist under "Jikook posts" and then "memories 2020" topic. My favorite moment from the black swan MV making is definitely the overly flirty way they were speaking to each other when Jimin was teasing JK about getting to go home before he found out that he had to stay late with JK to be his shadow. The way he used honorifics with JK and their tone of voice. The flirt level was intense. Lmao

ON Kinetic Manifesto Making Film:

Tkkrs speading a clip around of JK checking out Tae and making it seem like a sexual thing from On Kinetic Manifesto shooting film. Cutting out the before and after bits that are actually 3J all checking out and complimenting Tae on his temporary tattoos and outfit for the shoot since he just finished getting them done and finally joined the rest of the guys 🤣🤣 He was the last one out and made a wonderful entrance. His tattoos and outfit were striking and deserving of compliments. It wasn't a sexual check out it. It was a hype up session between the dance line. I loved seeing it. It also highlights yet again, the important of context. There was no full body "I want him" check outs. It was a check out of his new tattoos down his neck/chest and face. Which, understandable. Hobi also told him that he was bringing out his inner demon for the song. Loved it!!

Jhope while reviewing footage for ON, why did all the clips I see cut it before Jhope went "wow that was hot Jimin" after they saw his shoulder move. Jimin just yes, yes thank you. And them all saying that Jimin exposing skin would bring them in more views. Lmao the ARMY call out was NOT necessary.

Jins jacket was not silver?! They decided they had too many members in black jackets so they spray painted his black leather jacket on the set!

ON MV Making Film:

Jin acted out his feelings of despair during the ON MV with the dead Dove by imagining he had worked super hard to get to max level 100 on a game and then his account was deleted and he had to start over 🤣🤣 Why are they like this? I love them.

Jin, JK and Hobi were the only ones shooting on Day 1. Hobi scolded JK teasingly to make sure he lays down and plays dead properly during his scene. When JK got to leave first, Jhope asked him to wait for him and JK just was like "what?" No idea if he waited or ditched him for home. Lol

Tae being the sweetest boy while everyone else ate snacks during JKs solo shoot, Tae went and delivered and hand fed snacks to the crew that was around and camera men and fhen fed JK a snack as soon as the camera stopped rolling. He was making sure everyone who still had to be working still got to enjoy the tasty snacks 🥺 An Angel. We don't deserve him.

Vmin dancing and being so sweet together to show the young girl on set with them how to dance so that then she could do it with Tae too. He dipped Jimin and then dipped her and I melted. They are so good with kids. The smiles were SO BIG.

SBS Inkigayo Making Film:

Vmin accounts posting Tae tapping Jimins ass as they get ready to perform black swan. Jikook accounts posting JM tapping JKs ass in the black swan pose. Reality: JM tap JK ass, Tae tap JM ass, JM tap JK, Tae tap JM.... JK confusion 🤣 Vminkook ass tapping chain

Jin and Jimin bickering over the black swan inkigayo stage. Jimin teasing that he got a lot better but he needed to move back in time so thay JM could get in. Jin saying it was the stages fault because he can communicate with the stage and it told him to dance longer. Why are they like this?!

Please. Yoongi said the stylists dressed him up in a space suit and asked if they were sending him to NASA 😂 his outfit for Inkigayo week 2 performance lmfao

Taekook being silly with the choreo before practice and then convincing all the hyungs (with Jins help) to do finger hearts during the ON bridge part since it's the last performance for the show they are filming to show ARMY love. Everyone was trying to convince Hobi to do the heart thing on stage officially since it was technically their last performance for the show. And Hobi didn't truly get on board with it until Jimin did. And when I say Jihope main dancers and the unofficial performance directors for the Tannies, this is what I mean!

When they did the hearts for the stage, everyone laughing super hard at Tae's cute heart. Namjoon told him to do it the same way for the offical recording. And then giggling over JKs dramatic heart while he sings HIS heart out on the bridge. Everyone, except Jimin. Jimin looks so freaking endeared and fond watching that playback during JKs heart part 🥺 I melted. He loves him soooooo much.

Namjoon and Jimin talking about how sad they were that they weren't performing with ARMY is taking me out 😭 Yoongi giving Jimin his signature comfort smile as he passes by knowing Jimin is sad 😭 and JK coming up to rub his neck/shoulder briefly to comfort him. Omgggg.

Wow! Okay, so that's it for the first 3 discs. Obviously this isn't even close to everything that happened. I mostly just discussed what personally stood out to me. (Part 01/05) I was tagged by @sapphireglyphs ♡. Thank for tagging me! I’m really excited to do this.

when did you first get into bts? April 2019.

why and/or how did you get into BTS? One of my besties was slowly and gradually showing me Bangtan videos (MVs... interviews... etc) every time we hung out. Being a big Johnny’s fan, I wasn’t really drawn in immediately. It felt like a totally different world to me. But I did enjoy everything she showed me. AND THEN!! I saw their performance of Boy With Luv on SNL... and that was it. The song was SO catchy... the performance itself was so CHARMING. I just had to watch more of them. And then I fell down an endless rabbit hole. first BTS song: Anpanman. My kid is a HUGE Anpanman (Japanese kids TV show) fan so while searching “Anpanman” on Youtube, I came across their performance of Anpanman. I was dealing with a crying baby who wanted nothing but Anpanman at the time so I didn't pay any attention to Bangtan's Anpanman... I just needed to rectify the situation quick.

favorite BTS song: Will always and forever be Pied Piper. But please let me name some other songs that have a special place in my heart because there’s too many (in no particular order).

My Favorite BTS Lyrics, Pt 1

Second, feel free to reply back or message me with your favorites, even if they’re not on here! I would love to chat and discuss. Inspo came from this post!

“Thank you for letting me be me / Even if one day I become someone that is not me.”

^^ Save Me / I’m Fine. I know these are two different songs, but BTS made it a point to connect them, and this parallel makes me uwu (sorry). I love anything that relates to growing and changing, and these lyrics embody that + acceptance.

“If I am, perhaps, ruining you – would you forgive me? Because you can’t live without me.”

^^ Pied Piper. This interpretation of Pied Piper is magical, and I really appreciate their translation of it as well. Pied Piper was always one of my favorite BTS songs, but this interpretation just added another reason to why I love it.

“In the end, some day, spring will come, and the ice will melt and trickle by.”

^^ Singularity. I get very sentimental about spring so I’m probably biased towards lyrics like these, but also, this lyric as a metaphor is sweet in itself.

“Perhaps, if at that time, just a little, just that much, I had gathered courage and stood in front of you, would everything have been different now?”

^^ The Truth Untold. This song is brutal, but also, regrets. Just a powerful lyric.

“In the days you say ‘I hate being me’, in the days you say ‘I just want to disappear’, let’s make a door, in your heart, if you open the door and enter, this place will be waiting for you.”

^^ Magic Shop. If you know what this song is about, it needs little explanation. Either way, this lyric is just a reminder to me of the comfort found in music/fandom/sharing these experiences with other people, including the artists. Thanks Jungkook.

(Honorable mention for Magic Shop: “You gave me the best of me, so you’ll give you the best of you.” If I think too hard about this lyric I’ll cry.)

“It was love, and if that is the entirety of the word ‘love’, is there really a need to keep repeating it?”

^^ Trivia: Seesaw. I think this lyric holds weight by itself, but means more when in context of the whole song. I love this song a lot. Partially, because its Yoongi. But I think it has such a beautifully soft sound. And then the first time I read the translation, I cried. So. This song wormed its way into my heart and now lives there. That’s on that.

“The me of yesterday, me of today, me of tomorrow... without anything missing, anything left behind, all of it is me.”

^^ Answer: Love Myself. I don’t even have the words to explain how I feel about this line. (But honestly... this whole song... all the lyrics are magical.)

“With the wings of Icarus you gave me, to you, not the sun, let me fly.”

^^ A Poem for the Little Things, or, as most of the world knows it, Boy With Luv. Much to talk about here. First, my favorite BTS song, ever. And then when I learned what the song was ACTUALLY about, I was done for. I like the literal translation of the name better than Boy With Luv, because I think it better represents what the song is about. I know it is supposed to relate back to Boy in Luv, however, (or maybe the better word is contrast) so I get the reasoning for the title. Either way, I think this line is all-encompassing of what the song is about and also very powerful for the fans.

“It might even be that the expression of this night is again so beautiful not because of those stars, or even those starry lights, but because of us.”

^^ Mikrokosmos. I admit, I slept on this song for a while. No idea why I did, but its really such a beautiful song. This line feels like something straight out of a romance novel and I love it. I also love the contrasting line about the darkness later on in the song.

“In an eternal night for which an end could not be seen, you are the one who gifted me with the morning.”

^^ Make It Right. This lyric is so sweet to me. It doesn’t even have to be romantic, to me its just about that person you find your solace in.

I’m going to do another part! Because I think MOTS7 is especially going to make me emo. Let me know what you think of these though!

jedi glowed sometimes, when casting certain things, sometimes when they meditate. he's seen nadia and naji do it enough times, and finds it rather endearing.

but naji is doing a different kind of glowing today as she grins and happily chatters back and forth with her white haired padawan. no, he means the metaphorical glowing, her skin clear as her grey eyes twinkle in the sunlight of tython. the white dress skirts the ground beneath them as the wind billows back and forth. the intricate lace that decorates her chest and collarbone play peek-a-boo with her sun-kissed skin as her hands brush over the beautiful pearl necklace that adorns her neck. the entire look is finished off by blonde curls that frame her face lovingly, topped off with a flower crown native to tython as the the wind is playing with the golden strands.

and she's his. she's his, and she's beautiful.

beautiful isn't the right word. nothing, seems to be the right word for how much he loves her. how beautiful she looks in the sunlight of tython. she's made him the happiest man alive, and it seems their lives together have just begun.

at first, he was happy to admire her from afar. then, he yearned to even be in the same room as her. his first romantic conversation with her was about whether he should take a chance, even if it was under the ruse of battle strategy. she'd returned it with a whole-hearted yes in his book. in fact, she'd played along.

he still didn't know whether she was as innocent as when she'd answered.

"felix." she steps away from nadia, who's baby blue bridesmaid dress flutters in the wind as she begins speaking animatedly with tharan and holiday. her grin is mischeveous as she hikes up her dress with one hand and takes his with her other. "let's go."

"go where?" he asks, as she begins dashing off towards the forest, dragging him along. he wants to tell her that her dress is going to get stained green, but she's moving too fast to hear him. he's always been aware she's fast, a bit skinny and with long legs that originally made him assume she was much younger than she is, but the way she's scampering into the tree lined forest makes him wonder whether she would've tried out for a sport if she weren't a jedi. "naj, where are we going?!"

she doesn't answer, as she pours on the speed that he's sure is pure jedi energy. they're nearly flying across the forest floor and roots that nearly trip him, but don't due to the pure luck he's generated since knowing her.

they stop just a while later, and he tries to get the air back that not only she'd taken from him, but the exhilirating run down. they've stopped in the middle of a clearing, the sun shining down on the blades of verdant green grass. she's breathing hard at he comes to step next to him, her hair falling out from it's curled styling and hanging down her back and around her shoulders. her silvery eyes focus on him as she grins, "this used to be my favorite spot as a padawan at the temple. some would call me a little...disobedient when it came time for lessons."

"really? you, disobedient?" he asks, disbelieving. his little wife, running off into the forests of tython without a care in the world. at first it sounds insane, with how much she cherises being a jedi. but for just a moment, he can see a little girl in padawan robes, rushing through the forest to escape lessons with her unruly blonde hair flying behind her. "didn't think you would."

"when you're one of the top students, you find you have a lot of time for other things. my 'other things' was exploring. i knew the area around the temple like the back of my hand for a long time. still do, in fact." she smiles, running forward and twirling around on one foot after shucking off her white heels. she's a whirlwind of white, tan and blonde as she falls backwards into a patch of flowers, giggling the whole time. "come, lay down with me felix!"

something about this has pulled a more childish aspect out of her, as he comes to stand next to her, choosing to sit instead of laying down on his back. true to his original assumption, her bare feet are covered in grass and the flowers in her hairband have escaped into her curls as she laughs, loud and ecstatic. "something got you excited, naj?"

"of course!" she exclaims, plucking flowers from here and there around her. she seems to calm a bit as he looks over to her, her blonde hair in a halo around her head. she's kind of flailing at the moment, kicking the air and holding her hands close to her chest. "i'm married, felix! i'm married to you, there's so much to do, so much to explore. so much to do for the republic and the jedi..." she trails off, her voice becoming quiet as she stops moving to look up at him, "so much to experience with you."

"i guess so." he answers, smiling himself. they sit together for a bit, admiring the forestry before he eventually figures no one will come looking for them if they saw them dashing off together, and lays down on the grass. it's soft beneath his head, and she turns onto her side to eye him. she's cute, a bit of her young face with the still chubby cheeks and full lips is visible, but he can see the exhaustion becoming apparent on her face. as bright as they can be, some nights her eyes are dull, and no matter how much makeup she applies he can still see the bags underneath them. today, there's not trace of either. her lips are painted a brilliant red, with the earrings he'd bought for her dangling on her earlobes.

he wants to spend the rest of his life with this woman. "you know i love you, right naji?"

"of course. you've only told me a hundred times over the last few days." she says, rolling her eyes. she moves a bit closer to him, nudging his nose with hers. "i love you too, felix."

his heart pulses as she kisses him, short and sweet. words he'd use to describe her. she tastes fruity as they laugh together, the second time bumping their noses together. naji isn't inexperienced (or at least she says she isn't), but sometimes makes this same mistake. for some reason, this just makes him adore her more. the third time, they stay together for a long while, only finally pulling away from she's breathing hard. "i don't know what the future will bring, but i hope you're in it." she says, watching as a long caterpillar crawls over her ring finger as she grins. "as long as forever is, felix iresso."

"as long as forever is." he agrees, taking her hand in his. "naji iresso."

BTS never ceases to amaze me as they don’t give up making catchy songs for beautiful lyrics, and they obviously never give up making a message to have something popular and catchy. Like Boy with Luv is so danceable and a damn bop if I ever heard one, but over the past few days, people have been noticing all the damn messages in it. At first glance it seems like a love song, but once you look into it and interprete some of the visuals in the MV, like some very smart fans have already done, Boy with Luv goes beyond a pop lovey-dovey song.

Then low and fucking behold, Boy with Luv is actually about us (along with Home and Mikrokosmos, like me and my friend were like WAIT I THOUGHT ____ was for us, a true crisis).

My favorite thing about Boy with Luv is that it’s fun, danceable, and perfect for the upcoming spring and summer. Most importantly, it does a good job expressing their thoughtful nature in a fun way seen through their lyrics, and espescially the humble nature they still have after getting world wide recognition. It’s beautiful that the boys sang about feeling blessed by all this love they’ve gotten, wanting to connect with armies by dancing with them. They want to step down from their personas to connect with their fans. Along with their deeper songs like Fake Love and whatever song you can think of (there’s a lot of them), Boy with Luv is another of many good examples of how versatile they are while still retaining their true selves.

unfortunately i haven’t read as many books lately as i did when i was younger...so a lot of my memories are from books that i read like as a kid lol......THAT BEING SAID i think rue and finnick’s death in the hunger games was truly heartbreaking to read, the spine of my copies of both books have cracks on those pages bc i had to read it several times just to really believe it. also i thought it was written so heart wrenchingly well that i had to go back. also in looking for alaska when pudge, a man who loved to know people’s last words, realized that he would never know alaska’s last words. im also really thankful for that book bc it introduced me to wh auden’s poetry and to this day he’s still one of my favorite poets of all time.

It was the day they released WINGS, and I was listening all the songs for the first time and reading the lyrics, this whole album itself is a roller coaster in the best way, and then when it came to this song I was reading the lyrics when I suddenly couldnt read anymore because my eyes were full of tears. So today I want to give my opinion on my latest obsession: BTS. No, I am not speaking about “Behind The Scenes”, but about a music group/band called BTS (Bangtan Boys). For those who do not know them (who doesn’t at this point?) they are a 7-member k-pop group, who are breaking all records. I usually do not give my opinion on music, since my blog is mostly a “The 100”–related blog, but I felt that this time I could make an exception, because I have been enjoying this group very much during “The 100” hell-hiatus and felt like sharing my impressions.

So how did I come across discovering this group? Well… lately I have been into k-dramas. Almost two years ago I discovered the world of Korean dramas, and really fell in love with it. It made me stop watching most American series (well except for The 100, duh), and I have been doing a lot of binge-watching of really good Korean series. Of course, while watching them I often hear really nice songs in the background or as OST, and out of curiosity I went on YouTube to listen to those tracks in full version. That’s how I discovered k-Pop: it was first VIXX, then GOT7, then EXO and WINNER. Of course, I watched other k-pop boy-bands, but those are the ones that I liked most. And then, one day, after watching a clip from one of the groups I have just mentioned, the automatic lecture feature in YouTube put on “NOT TODAY” of BTS and I got hypnotized by the crazy dancing. Don’t get me wrong, other groups are very good dancers, but BTS choreographies and attitude really impressed me big time. And when I watched “FIRE” next, I was hooked.

Before I move on let me clarify some things about me: first of all, I do not consider myself as an ARMY member. Again for those who are not familiar, “ARMY” is the name of the BTS fandom and I believe it is one of the most active fandoms in social media if it is not the most. Second of all, I am in my mid-thirties, which is kind of old considering the average age of ARMY stans. Also, I was a teenager during the 90’s and I have lived the boys-band era, and let me tell you this: I have never been a fan (to the exception of some random songs). So this is the opinion of a person who is not in the BTS fandom (yet?), who has never really been fond of boy-bands and who is “oldish”.

Let’s get into it! (Beware, I have a lot to say => 5 K words after the cut)

Disclaimer: I am rather new to this so if I say something wrong, educate me, do not send hate please

So as I said, it’s the dancing that got me interested in BTS: the songs I first heard where OK to my standards, very catchy, but I mostly loved watching the dancing, more than listening to the songs. But then, I came across the rest of their songs and I started enjoying it more and more. The more I listened to them, the more I enjoyed it: this kind of music has a way to creep into you.

So what has “sealed the deal” for me?

A great discography

Variety of genres in their discography: not one songs resembles the other. They have Hip-hop, trap and rap tracks, R&B and pop songs, ballads …the variety of genres is impressive, even within the same song! I am not used to see this in other (non-korean) groups/singers: once they start in a genre they stick to it, with very seldom variations. But BTS seems to enjoy exploring genres and they are very good at it.

I mostly like their calmest songs with “Tomorrow” being my absolute favorite, followed by “House of cards” and “Let me know”. But they have so many beautiful songs: “Spring Day”, “Save me”, “Dead leaves”, “Hold me tight”, “Sea”, “Born singer”, “I need U”, “Run”, “Go Go”, “Boy in luv”, “Best of me”, “Baepsae” to name some of my favorites. I even really like their debut songs such as “No more dream”, “N.O.”& “We are bullet-proof”.

This doesn’t mean I do not enjoy their most recent songs like “Blood, sweat and tears”, “DNA” & “Mic Drop”: but for those, I mostly like the video clips more than the songs (sorry, my opinion!). Just like “Fire” and “Not today” are extremely catchy (and I’m in love with the MVs), but it is not the type of songs I listen to on my way to work. Those are the type of songs which are more powerful if you watch the whole performance (singing + dancing).

So my advice: do not just listen to Title tracks only: my favorite BTS songs are not Title tracks, and they are sooooo good.

To top it all, the majority of their songs have meaningful lyrics and tackle sensitive topics. And when you start scratching the surface you discover that their songs and MVs are connected to each other across the years of their existence. That’s when you get into theories, because yes, every detail is important and is part of a mysterious and giant puzzle that will blow your mind.

An A-team: I firmly believe that BTS members are among the most talented individuals I have ever encountered, but they are not alone in this. The reason why BTS is rising to the top is also due to the team surrounding them. Watch any BTS MV: the cinematography is beautiful, the costumes are stylish, the color scheme is on point, the choreographies are awesome, and camera angles perfect… you can feel there is a lot of work and thought put together to get this result. And when you watch live performances, you also get the sense that behind BTS, there is a talented team that supports them.

I think that BTS is the only idol group of Big Hit entertainment (for now) and it really shows. You can tell Big Hit puts a lot of effort and care into this group. Every little detail is well thought of and planned. Big Hit entertainment is doing everything they can to showcase the talent they have in their hands. I also appreciate the fact that they are letting each member explore their own artistry outside from the group. The fact that they gave solos to each member in the Wings album was a smart move. It allowed each member to shine on their own, with their own style, while still showcasing the group as a whole. Smart, smart indeed.

I like the fact that they allow some freedom to their artists: they have their say in the production process, they write lyrics, produce songs, and from time to time they let them get songs by themselves and let them explore the music they like. Because they are so different, and they all shine when performing solo, but each on their own way. Just have a listen/look at the mixtapes released for each member of the rap line: whether it is RM’s, Agust D’s or J-Hope’s, each mixtape has a different feel and genre. The members’ tastes and personalities just shine through their music and I like the fact that Big Hit supports them into their musical journey.

7 talented young men

Well of course what makes BTS so good are its 7 talented members: each one has a very distinct voice, style and personality and whether they are singing, rapping or dancing, the experience is really enjoyable. Note that they are so good, that it took me a loooooong while finding a “bias” (aka favorite member), and even if I have one now, the others are really not far away from him. It’s crazy how easily you can get attached to them.

Let’s do a quick tour of the members, their performances and characteristics. (Again, this is my opinion based on what I have seen, do not get offended that I don’t like your bias as much as you do!).

Let’s start with the rappers: J-Hope, Suga and RM. I am not going to lie, although I enjoy rap, it is not my cup of tea: I’m fine with small doses, but can have trouble listening to pure rap, with nothing else around. However those 3 rappers made me appreciate rapping in ways I did not expect, because they have the attitude, the flow and the talent. If you don’t know them already, I recommend listening to their Cyphers (with subtitles turned on) which are really, really good: I personally really like Cypher pt. 4, but pt.3 is really good too (but this will be different according to each person’s tastes).

The rappers of the group have suffered from mockery from other rappers because they joined BTS, and were hence considered as not being “real rappers”. But let me tell you this: they have proven again and again that they are extremely talented and that they do not need to envy other self-proclaimed “real” rappers.

· J-Hope: real name Jung Hoseok, also known as Hobi, Hoseok. He might be the most underrated rapper as usually RM and Suga get most of the attention. At least, I know he is the last member I paid attention to within the rap-line. Rap-wise I would say that his style is slower than RM’s and Suga, infusing his cheerful personality in every line. I like how he modulates the rhythm of his diction in his rapping, and the fact that he incorporates singing into it, building his own rapping style. What is also impressive is the fact that J-Hope never rapped before joining BTS, he was a dancer. But keep in mind that I am far from being a specialist of rap. The first time I paid attention to J-Hope is with the Wings album: I was impressed with his track “Boys meets Evil” and I also really enjoyed “Hey Mama”. What gets me the most with him is that he is a multi-faceted artist: he knows how to rap, sing (have you heard his singing? soooo nice!) AND he is an amazing dancer. I really do love his dancing: the energy he has when dancing is breathtaking, and this same energy transpires in his solo tracks. And of course I have to talk about his mixtape that just came out in March 2018. Such a sleek and mellow sound: the Hixtape is a very unique trip into his world and a real treat for the ears. No wonder it broke records all over the World! Also, personality-wise J-Hope is a funny, caring and optimistic individual: basically, a real sunshine. What’s not to love?

· RM: real name Kim Namjoon, aka God of Destruction, formerly known as Rap Monster (or Rap Mon) …he is the first rapper that I noticed because of his low deep voice and chill attitude. He “spits some bars” has some will say but in the best way possible. His rapping skills are sick: he can rap extremely fast (*cough*joke*cough*), or take it slower, but always with attitude. But what is weird is that I like RM the most when he sings…yep, with time I have the impression that he has been singing more and more and I absolutely love it. His part in “Best of me”, “Let me know”, or in “4 o’clock” is really awesome for lack of a better word. RM is the leader of BTS and as such he is in charge of being the spokesperson of the group and the link between Big Hit and the BTS members. He basically is the dad of the group and makes sure that every member gets his share of spotlight.

Besides from being a caring and respected leader, RM is also an excellent song writer and producer: you need to listen to songs like “Spring day”, or “Serendipity” to see the tip of the iceberg of his writing abilities.

Basically, RM is a really smart (IQ of 148), caring, charismatic individual who takes his role in BTS to heart.

· Suga: real name Min Yoongi, also known as Agust D. At first I didn’t really pay attention to Suga. But he is a quiet force that crept into me slowly and then hit me hard. I really started noticing him with his solo song in the Wings album: “First love”. I first listened to it without reading the lyrics and I was touched by the raw emotion that his performance transpired. Then, when reading the lyrics I got transported by his love of music: music was and will always be his first love. Nice. But of course it didn’t stop there, that was just an appetizer: I then discovered his mix tape under his other stage name “Agust D”. Oh WOW. Do you remember when I said I was not into rap songs that much? Well I am into HIS songs very much. I discovered real gems in this mixtape, my favorites being “Agust D”, “Far way” and my number 1 of all “The last”. His rapping is the most lit thing I have ever heard, the way he modulates the rhythm of his rapping according to the message he wants to deliver and at the core of that there is always RAW emotion. And when you read the lyrics of “The last”, oh my… it’s heart-wrenching. This guy is so freaking talented that he just became my bias wrecker with this mix tape, hands down.

But Suga’s talent does not lie only on his rapping skills; just like RM he writes lyrics, composes and produces songs. And he really is very good at producing: my favorite song of BTS (Tomorrow) was produced by him. He even won an award for his producing skills. I like that he is so passionate about his music.

And I also like his personality: he is more introverted than the others, with a darker humor and can be a real savage. But you can tell he is a tormented soul (even before reading his lyrics!) and inside he is a big softy. So yeah, freaking Suga: an awesome individual, rapper AND producer.

OK, now let’s dive into the vocal line: Jin, V, Jungkook and Jimin. As I said, I am biased because I enjoy singing more than rapping (well most of the time).

· Jin: real name Kim Seok Jin, also known as “Worldwide handsome”. Yes, he IS handsome but he also has such a beautiful, and breathy voice. The “visual” member of the group is also the most underrated singer of BTS. I thank the Wings album every day because it got me into knowing each member and pay attention to them individually. Just like with Suga and J-Hope, it’s Jin’s solo song “Awake” that made me notice him more. He surprised me in a very positive way, and I realized at that moment that may be the fact that I did not pay attention to him was simply because he doesn’t have that many lines in the songs. He truly deserves to get way more spotlight to show his true potential. Luckily he finally got more lines in the Japanese album and has shone in “Don’t leave me”, and “Let go”.

Jin has a very stable voice that relaxes me to no end. I can’t wait to get some Jin-exclusive content: I will be there to support him. I honestly was low-key disappointed that Jungkook got the intro “Euphoria” for “Love yourself: Wonder”: I was expecting an intro by Jin (don’t get me wrong I love Euphoria and Jungkook!).

Personality-wise, even though he is the oldest, I think he might be the least mature of all the members: a true kid with the funniest laugh ever (sounds like windshield). He is sweet and sensitive, but very loud! Especially when food is involved ^^ He spends his time telling dad jokes and blowing flying-kisses. As time goes on, I am liking him more and more even if at first I thought he was kind of “bland” (nonsense I know!). HE IS NOT.

· V: real name Kim Taehyung, also known as Tae or Tae-Tae. What a soulful voice! His voice is the most distinct to me out of the members of the voice-line: when I started listening to BTS I could tell his voice apart from the others because it is very unique. His voice is like melted chocolate: so beautiful and warm. Once again, I will be referencing the Wings album: in his solo track “Stigma” he hits the high notes without a sweat and keeps his husky voice all the way through. Among my favorites I would also mention 4 o’clock (with RM!) or his cover of Adele’s “Someone like you”. But just listen to any BTS song: you cannot miss his voice. He is the member with the widest vocal range. I absolutely love his part in “Let me know” and “Spring day” to name a few, but the list would be too long. Just one thing though, I like his voice the most when he is in the low range: I appreciate him in Blood Sweat and Tears for example, where he showcases his highest notes, but I don’t know why, I am most invested when he is in the lower ranges. It just does things to my heart I cannot handle (“Crystal Snow”, “Let go”… OMG)

So his voice is amazing, anything else? Hell yeah. He is such a good performer! We often talk about J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook when discussing dancing skills, but honestly V is not lagging at all. He lives his performances to the fullest: he is very expressive and very good at acting. Besides from that, he is a weird and funny fella and yet another sweetie. He is the biggest troll you will find and a real social butterfly. Tae really makes me laugh so much and his reactions are so unpredictable!

· Jungkook: real name Jeon Jungkook, also known as Kookie, muscle bunny. Ok this guy is not called the “golden maknae” for nothing (Maknae means the youngest of the group). He is absolutely badass in everything he does: singing, rapping and dancing (and drawing, and sports and photography, editing…and so many areas that it is unfair for the rest of the world). He is also a very handsome kid, so I am not surprised he is the “bias” of many ARMY stans. He is one of the first I noticed because I really liked his attitude in the MVs, and when I heard his voice I melted. There is a reason he is BTS’ main vocalist. Listen to his cover in collaboration with Jimin for “We don’t talk anymore” and you’ll have an idea of how beautiful his voice is. I actually like this version of the song better than the original one. But any other cover he has done is wonderful as well (papercut, or 2U for example) and let’s not forget his solo track “Begin” (yep Wings album again). His voice has a wide range and is extremely stable, even while dancing. To sum up, Jungkook is a very young artist that has the potential to become a bulldozer in the music industry. He oozes talent from every pore of his skin. This kid is growing fast and thanks to his “hyungs” he is asserting his style and personality.

Personality-wise, he is a walking-meme and a mischievous little bunny: he loves teasing his hyungs so much. But at the same time he still is shy in many situations: but his BTS brothers are there to protect him.

· Jimin: real name Park Jimin, also known as chim chim or little mochi. Ok, ladies and gentlemen, presenting what k-pop fans call the “bias”. Jimin is my “bias”. He wasn’t at first, but he won me over, clip after clip, performance after performance. I like him because he is made of contrasts: I really love his voice, which can reach the highest flawless angelic notes, but at the same time deliver raspy sounds when singing low notes. I got to admit that Jungkook has a really nice voice which sounded similar to Jimin’s when I first started listening to BTS: it was hard for me telling them apart. But eventually I reached a point that know I can tell them apart 99.9% of the time: I like the fact that Jimin’s voice vibrates and flows when getting into high notes, and gets a little raspy when hitting low notes. I am not sure I can express what I hear with my English skills though (non –native speaker here). I like voices that can stir up my emotions, and his definitely does that. I always ended up liking his parts the most in almost every song, before knowing it was all him. How can I not mention his two solo songs: “Lie” and “Serendipity”? his voice is pure bliss. But I also liked his debuts and growls. Some say that he has not the best voice; I don’t care, I like his voice the most because he has some imperfections. And yes V, Jin and Jungkook can hit really high notes, but none of their voices get me as Jimin’s voice does. You know, personal bias here.

On top of having an amazing voice, this guy is an amazing dancer: both, J-Hope and him are always wonderful to watch. Jimin’s way of dancing is so expressive: everything from body to face lives the songs to the fullest. His background in contemporary dance mixes so well with popping and hip hop style of dancing. He has a good control of his body, and just flows; he is like water. Add to the equation that he seems to be a real cinnamon roll in RL, and you have an artist who is sweet and a badass at the same time. He has a very bright and sweet personality, but once he gets on stage, he becomes this other persona, full of strength and attitude: the contrast is striking and so interesting. I guess I also like the fact that he is also a very sensitive soul, struggling with self-confidence issues and inner-demons. He is a perfectionist and tortured soul hiding behind the sweetest smile.

Energy, emotional honesty and passion:

OK, so besides their music and talent, there is also a “je ne sais quoi” factor that got me attached to this group in particular. I started watching many videos of them performing live but also many off-stage videos. And let me say this: I really liked what I have seen. OK it might be staged or manipulated, because I don’t really know what is really going on behind the scene, but it felt quite honest. Their energy seems legit, their interactions and care for each other seem genuine, their emotions as well.

Here are the things that I noticed and really liked:

·Real passion for music:

BTS members love music. Some prefer producing songs, other like to sing, others enjoy dancing… but they all have in common a drive to improve and always deliver the best performance in everything they do. Their work transpires passion and positive energy.

·Emotional honesty:

First of all I was surprised by what I call their “emotional honesty” and how they break male western stereotypes. In the countries I have lived (US, France and Spain): men are not allowed to be fragile. When I say they are not allowed, I mean society standards pressure them into always having a strong façade, no matter what. Emotions are kept buried inside because otherwise they would be seen as “feminine” and it is considered as a weakness: any time a man shows his feelings, his vulnerabilities he is being weak. Last time I checked men are human beings, just like women: they go through pain, grief, anger, anxiety etc. The fact that society tries to control the way men express their emotions is as harmful as society trying to dictate women into not being equals to men. So that’s the type of attitude I am used to see with men raised in western societies: “conceal don’t feel”.

But BTS members are not like this at all. I don’t know if in Korea men are more in touch with their emotions (I don’t know this country and its society so I cannot judge), or if BTS members are emotional because they are still young. But anyways, it is so refreshing to see these kids expressing their feelings, inner turmoil and anxieties on-stage or off-stage; they laugh and cry whenever they feel like it. They are honest with their emotions and it shows: I really hope that when getting older, they won’t lose that emotional honesty because to me that is their strength.

This emotional honesty is also present in their songs: many of them have shared their personal struggles in songs. The two songs that stroke me most were “The last” from Agust D (aka Suga) and “Lie” from Jimin: the lyrics are so personal and even dark. It takes a lot of courage to share this type of struggle, but that’s what makes this group so special. They express themselves through music. But even other group songs have deep and meaningful messages showcasing their struggles and inner thoughts. They communicate with theirs fans and the world with their lyrics.

·A strong brotherhood:

The second thing I really enjoyed about those Behind The Scene (he he he BTS;)) moments is their interactions with each other. One can tell that they are all very close to each other and that they are each other’s support. OK I know that this subject is leading me straight into a sensitive subject: “ships”. Yep, I know there is a lot of “shipping” among ARMY stans… I won’t get into that because I hate ship wars (if you know the 100 fandom you can understand what I’m saying…although I do ship, but my motto is ship and let ship). I honestly have no preferences among the relationships of the members (no ships among BTS members), but I can really say that it is a pleasure to watch their interactions, and it puts a smile on my face every single time.

And if their interactions are so pleasant to watch it is mainly due to the first point I raised: their emotional honesty. In every interaction I have watched they all seem so close to each other: not just a mere partnership, no, it seems to be a deep friendship, a brotherhood of sorts. One can tell that together they had to face challenges and suffer from extreme stress: this type of situation has the advantage to solidify relationships with the people you are living this with.

They seem to have healthy relationships: the kind of relationship where you can count on the support of the other person. We have to keep in mind that these are very young men that got into the music industry at a very young age. They got separated from their families, and even if they seem to be holding “their shit together” and being all grown-up, deep down they are still kids at heart that are getting into adulthood. They struggle with inner demons, society pressure and hectic lives.

In the light of last year’s events (suicide of SHINee’s member Jonghyun), I really hope that this group of young men are going to keep the sincerity that I can sense in them: honesty with their emotions, their art, and their relationships. I really wish they won’t get their wings burned by the music industry, and that they will have space to breathe and become their own person.

I said I don’t consider myself as part of the ARMY, but I just wrote the longest meta ever about them… should I create a side blog dedicated to BTS and jump into the fandom? Not sure I can handle two fandoms…

At 0:08 in the video, all member’s names are graffiti’d on the walls.

A line from the song Come Back Home

From about 0:25 to 0:29, Steve Aoki’s eyes watch over the boys from the Mic Drop remix. Also, the TV says ARMY <3

Also at 0:29, there are posters lining the walls from BTS’s past comebacks. If you look closely, you can also see their logo on the controllers (this is much more easily visible later on in the video). The room MIGHT also be modeled to look like a room in their current dorm but I’m not sure.

At 0:30, the first screen of the game finally shows up, and it lasts for about 10 seconds. In that time, we can see:

The stage is modeled from their first music video, No More Dream

J-Hope (who’s character name is written as JHS in the game-- short for Jung Hoseok, his real name) is firing a Supreme gun that shoots fake money (lol).

The little mascot in the Info section is Van, a mascot from the BT21 series created by BTS and Line. Each mascot was made by/represents one member of BTS, except for Van, who represents ARMYs.

“Today, your dream begins! A new path has been opened, don’t hesitate!” I am pretty sure these are lyrics from one of their songs since, throughout the video, Van pretty much mostly speaks in lyrics. I haven’t been able to find this one though.

At 0:41, the stage changes to reflect their We Are Bullet Proof Pt. 2 music video.

Van’s quote “It’s like a desert here, there’s nothing but rocks” is a reference to the hidden song on the LYH album, Sea.

ALSO, a some of the monsters designs are based on lyrics and references from BTS’s music. I’m sure all of them are but I just can’t make the connection. Maybe the rock monster is also a reference to Sea?

Edit: Apparently most of the enemy designs are based off of album covers! This is according to Kiera’s twitter.

At 0:46, Suga joins the party as MYG (short for Min Yoongi, his real name).

J-Hope’s special attack at 0:48 is a reference to the short movie he stars in during the Wings era called MAMA (also the name of his solo song in the Wings album).

I’m not sure I even have to put this, but the great transition at 0:51 is a dead ringer for the iconic MIC MIC BUNGEE move that Suga and J-Hope do in the Mic Drop remix MV.

So now Suga is in the frontlines, attacking. His method of attack is the lighter he’s seen with throughout the entire HYYH series. It first made it’s appearance in the I NEED U music video (seen clearly at 0:29).

The stage has changed to reflect their music video N.O. The red and white color palettes of the monsters in this area are supposed to reflect the red and white album.

And at 1:05 (we’re only A MINUTE INTO THIS VIDEO WOW), they’re in the classroom setting from Boy In Luv. I have no idea what the monster is supposed to be. Is it balancing on a candle? Chalk? Does it represent the red string of fate???

Whoa hey, it’s 1:07 and we’re in the Just One Day music video! I’m fairly sure that paper airplane monster refers to the paper airplane J-Hope had in Spring Day? (At 3:20.) I don’t recall paper airplanes in their other MVs unless there was one in Just One Day that I missed?

Also, it looks like V has shown up! (As KTH, or Kim Taehyung.)

Suga’s special attack starts at about 1:09 and lasts until 1:14. In it, he throws a rock at the monster, an alarm goes off, and a piano falls on the monster’s head. This is a reference to the short film FIRST LOVE, released during the Wings era. In it, Suga throws a rock into a music store, where a piano sits, and an alarm goes off.

Back in the real world at 1:15, we can see more detailed posters from different eras. I just know the Dope era one on the right.

At 1:18, we’re in the underground subway setting for Danger. (If it wasn’t obvious, the stage appearances correspond to the order the actual music videos were released in.) V unleashes his attack, unfurling black wings and firing feathers. In the MV for Blood, Sweat, and Tears, as well as other subsequent material during this era, V was seen and associated with black wings. I think he’s fighting the Gucci snake? Because V loves Gucci in real life?

Also, Van is back! “It’s already your second year, time flows fast...” references their song Second Grade/So 4 More (which is an underrated BANGER btw).

Also, easter egg time: There’s graffiti reading “What Am I to You?” which is the title of one of their intro songs.

New player! Jin (aka KSJ, aka Kim Seokjin) appears at 1:24 and fights by blowing kisses :). Blowing kisses at ARMYs is pretty much his thing lol. Also, blowing kisses sends out hearts that hurt the enemy, and while that’s a common visualization for blowing kisses, I pray that its also a reference to Jin’s heart events.

They’re at the storefront present in the War of Hormone MV. The enemy he’s fighting is, I think, one of the black-clothed goons from Not Today and the Mic Drop remix MV. (It also appeared in Kiera’s last full-length fan animation of Cypher Pt. 3. That video is itself chock-full of references! Incidentally, I believe Van’s quote here is also referencing that song.)

Two seconds later at 1:26, Jimin (aka PJM, aka Park Jimin) makes his appearance. This time, they’re at the bonfire scene from I NEED U (also appears in their prologue MV I think). Their fighting a flower monster that I don’t know the significance of.

Jimin attacks with an umbrella. I think the umbrella is from the Love Yourself short films but I’m not entirely sure.

At 1:37, we get our first look at the achievement system in this game.

It’s all the awards they’ve won up until this point! Really awesome touch.

Two new players appear this time: Jungkook (JJK, Jeon Jungkook) and RM (KNJ, Kim Namjoon). I have no idea what Jungkook’s attack is: he pulls some string from his wrist and it transforms into a spear? Jungkook’s attack may be referencing the move from DNA. Strands of DNA come oout of his arm and form a spear. (Thank you @bangpdofficial!)

The stage is a scene from their Dope MV. Van’s quote, “so this is Bangtan style,” references the same song.

I am almost certain that the lion enemy has a mane modeled after the lily flower that appears frequently in the Bangtan Cinematic Universe. It’s even got six petals.

At 1:46, Jimin unleashes his special attack. The attack involves him eating an apple and then teleport-kicking the enemies. I think this is a reference to his short film, LIE.

The stage is from the For You MV, a song/MV exclusively released in Japan. I am not sure what the enemies are supposed to be.

Jimin’s kick transitions into the next scene, where the stage is modeled after the tunnel scene from the RUN MV. I am pretty sure the enemy is a reference to Baepsae/Crow-tit, and this bird represents the wealthy older generation.

A wild BTS lightstick appears at 1:53! (Also, we got some new scenes of their room with some new posters.) 9:18 might refer to the date the Love Yourself album was released (thank you anon!)

A new stage shows up at 1:55. I don’t quite recognize it but it might be the Japanese version of I NEED U? We can also get a clearer look at the bird from Baepsae.

At 1:57 we come to yet another new stage modeled after the Japanese Run MV. It’s filled with graffiti of the names of a ton of their songs.

V activates his special attack. A single lightbulb hangs from the ceiling and a table appears, which he kicks towards the baepsae. I believe it’s a reference to his interrogation scene in his short film, STIGMA.

Also, in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, V’s attack animation ends with him giving a peace sign and his adorable puppy Yeontan popping out of his pocket.

Two minutes into the video and we get a new stage (modeled after the Fire MV) and we finally see RM’s attack. He pulls out a giant lollipop and smacks enemies with it. He’s frequently seen with a yellow lollipop in the Bangtan Cinematic Universe.

And now they’re in a stage modeled after the Save Me MV.

Again, the stage changes into one based on Young Forever. I don’t know what that enemy’s supposed to be, but he’s pretty cool looking. And an animation for downed party members has never been so cute. (But what is that in Jin’s arms?)

At 2:08, RM provides an assist move that revives V and Jin. It takes the appearance of his BT21 mascot, Koya.

We get another look at the achievements screen at 2:10. It’s coming along nicely!

And a level selection screen a couple of seconds later! Not only does it show the title of the MV, but the description includes the album the song came from. The level code is also the date of the comeback (thank you @bangpdofficial)

2:18 shows a stage based on the Blood, Sweat, and Tears MV, as well as my favorite enemy design in the whole video: a dear featuring the circle designs from the Wings album cover.

For his special attack, RM unleashes a phone booth to crush the enemies, referencing his short film REFLECTION.

More awards!

Also, seems like the boys have started taking notes. You can see a DNA strand drawn on the bottom one (blocked a little by the YouTube bar--sorry about that).

New stage at 2:30! It’s the train from Spring Day. Van’s line about forgetting shoes also references the lone pair of shoes featured many times in that video.

Jin summons his pet sugar gliders to restore the HP of the rest of the party (to the bewilderment of Van).

Jin uses his special attack in the Not Today stage at 2:45. He takes a photo with the polaroid camera seen many times in the Bangtan Cinematic Universe, and it turns the enemy to stone. It crumbles away under his touch. This might relate to the way Jin crumbled as though he were stone in the Blood Sweat and Tears MV.

At 2:50, we’re taken to a new stage. I think it’s based on the Japanese MV of Blood Sweat and Tears. Van’s quote is another reference to the song Sea.

Even more awards! Too many that I can’t even count ‘em.

And at 3:03, we see a DNA-based stage. Van’s quote is once again from Sea.

Jungkook’s special attack has all the other members in BTS appear behind him in succession before he delivers a punch to the enemy. It’s safe to say that this references the song (not the short film) BEGIN, which is something of an ode to the hyungs of Bangtan. <3 (song) (film)

3:20. Hey look it’s pretty much a direct replica of that one scene from DNA (at 3:49).

At 3:25 we get our first look at the game over screen. Among a bunch of other “you have failed” messages, there’s this one (”don’t be such a try-hard”) that further references Baepsae.

Looks like they keep getting knocked out in the Mic Drop stage. That weird rainbow ball from DNA is tough.

Van’s words of encouragement are nearly a direct quote from the best-known line in Sea. “Where there’s hope, there’s trials.”

Last but not least, BTS’s achevements have earned them a spot on the world’s scoreboard, their debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 as number 28. <3

This fan animation was absolutely stellar and the attention to detail was mind-blowing. Even the tiniest details like how each member’s idle animation would work had so much thought put into it. Again, mad props to @seiyoko, @salukiart and @yowgurt for their incredible work!

Why Do I Like BTS

I wrote this on my other blog before I decided to make this special feature blog where I would put all of my interests.

It’s been exactly one month since I became a BTS fan. And my obsession has just become crazy recently, despite deliberately trying to avoid thinking about them. So I wanted to dig deep on why this group had this much effect on me, despite being an unlikely music choice against my taste.

I absolutely did not expect for this post to be so long! I guess I just had a lot to say, and I have to let it all out. That’s why I’m going crazy. Hope my brain gets better after writing.

How I Got Interested

I will never forget this video because this is the one that got me really interested in BTS (and Kpop after): Live performance of Dynamite - Bedroom Remix (https://youtu.be/liyn48Amjdw). I was just so impressed by a few things in this that I watched it so many times!

First of all, it was my first time listening to this song as a whole. First time listening to it live, too. It’s a very catchy song! This is my jam.

Jungkook’s whole intro - 1) His stable voice while doing the moonwalk and all that dancing. I knew Kpop artists can sing, I knew Kpop artists can dance, but to do both at the same time that well? It was very obvious that this was live singing, and yet his voice was so clean while dancing, and easy to listen to. (Tbh, I wasn’t all that impressed by the vocal line’s singing aside from him and Jimin, and surprisingly - Jhope, who is actually not part of the vocal line.) And 2) His stage presence. I really enjoyed watching him go through his whole part because it really seemed like he was having SO MUCH FUN!!! It just changed my view of kpop idols that screamed they are manufactured and they are stressed. Jungkook just really seemed to genuinely enjoy performing. Maybe his smile, as a handsome person, was also a slight factor, but I really think it was the energy he gave off. Tbh, this goes for all of them!

Subsequently after that, the members stood up one by one. RM impressed me with a rap that’s well done, particularly the way he said “this beat chaching like money” with a wink. (He’s was charismatic!) I don’t know, it could be just the song writing. Or it could be him. Again, the fun energy!

J-hope was next, and I was impressed by the way he delivered his part, especially the high pitch in “I’m diamond” and the riff in “you know I glow up.” I thought, wow, they’re all doing their parts so well, I did not expect this. (Also, RM’s “hey, so let’s go!” idk it’s so good.)

In fact, as the video progressed, you can see that it was not just Jungkook who was enjoying but all of them. All of the members did (except for SUGA and his constant poker face, even though I’m now a big SUGA stan). The way the members looked at whoever was performing was a look of great delight. And they supported each other’s lines with nice adlibs. It’s such a very positive fun, friendly, and brotherly energy.

Jimin’s solemn part came and it was just simply angelic. I have another note on this - Jimin. He was the only BTS member I knew of before this! I know him because I once saw a video on a guy spending thousands of dollars to look like him, saying he had the most perfect face of all. I was like, “Huh? He’s not even that handsome!” I also know him because he was mentioned in a TwoSet violin reaction video (me as an absolute TwoSet fan). Eddie is a Jimin fan! Anyway, Jimin’s part was absolutely angelic, and I didn’t expect it. I used to dislike the idea of being a fan of Jimin, cause he was being idolized for his visuals when he actually wasn’t the best in it (this was me before becoming a BTS fan), but I suddenly understood when I saw him perform. He was ADORABLE. It’s hard to hate him. Plus, his cute dance at the end.

The video just kept getting better with Jungkook’s high note. (I gotta say, Dynamite was really JK era.)

Anyway, I was so impressed by this performance. The caption of the friend who posted this was about “Taehyung” and I wanted to know what part of the video she was talking about. Who is Taehyung? On top of that, I wanted to know what Jungkook’s name was (and they look incredibly alike if you don’t know them), cause he was obviously my favorite in this video, so I tried to know all their names!

I googled all of them and Jin and V’s visuals were making me blush!!! That’s when I started to really try to get to know them by reading “BTS 101″ articles and watching more performances/music videos. SUGA’s part in the article was interesting, seeing how he went through financial struggles, and how he’s very vocal about society’s issues and his mental illnesses. It struck a chord in my heart.

I also looked out for their dance moves (in true kpop fashion) in their performances, and I was just blown away by the fact that it’s so well choreographed and well-performed, and they’re singing live on top of that. “ON” in Grand Central Terminal? Crazy! I personally liked Mic Drop too because it was my favorite from Sunny Funny Fitness’s Zumba (even though I didn’t know who BTS was). Also knew Boy With Luv from Zumba, so it wasn’t hard to listen to the song. And Spring Day was just familiar (probably from TwoSet violin).

Oh, I forgot, I’ve already seen their Carpool Karaoke with James Corden (as a carpool karaoke fan) a few times way before I knew them. I watched it more than once cause they’re so funny and it’s just interesting to see a kpop group in there.

Now that I’m looking back, I’m surprised to know I still remember this much detail about that fateful hour that got me into BTS mode.

It’s crazy cause now, I’m less focused on their performances, but on videos that show their personality and relationships.

Having Biases

My bias keeps changing: Jungkook (a charismatic performer) > V (as a good-looking cool kid, who apparently is an actual baby) > Jin (the good-looking, loving/kind, and crazy hyung who is also a fake maknae) > Maknae line (crackheads, fun and talented/aesthetically-pleasing bunch, including Jin) > Jungkook (idk he’s just cute, and considered golden maknae) > Suga (cool rap lines, wonderful opennes, hard work, talent, wisdom, etc) > RM (genius and best leader of kpop) > Rap Line (the OG writers that give depth to BTS songs), OT7 (they are all special in their own way), etc

Overall, I personally relate the most to Suga and Jungkook. Suga in his openness about mental issues and being a tired old man. Jungkook in having many interests and hobbies, also shyness. I am also not sure why but I definitely resonate with Jin’s personality too (definitely not the looks though, I’m not that gorgeous.)

The Effect

I want to talk about the effect of BTS on me, healthy and unhealthy:

The good thing they’ve brought me is my interest in exercise the week I became a fan. Suddenly, exercise became fun because it was dancing to their songs (Zumba) and listening to their songs while jogging.

Me comparing myself to them, but with a more positive effect - Seeing how they’ve achieved so much despite being young, I keep telling myself, I want to achieve more, too, and work hard like them. The truth is, I also think that if BTS meets me and sees my situation as a bum who just keeps watching videos all day long, it sounds really pathetic.

I am so inspired by their personality and friendship. Everybody appreciates and genuinely loves the others, with no competition. They’re all very humble, very honest, and very caring. It makes me want to be kind and love other people like that too.

I just keep watching their clips and Youtube videos about them. As I said, I love watching things showing their character and relationships. It’s a waste of time, really, but I can’t help it. I want to watch all of Run BTS, but now I’m trying not to. There came a point where I can’t work if I’m not also watching their clips in the background.

The obsession - I have been thinking about them a lot these days, especially Jungkook. It’s very weird. “What would Jungkook like?” It’s a very weird situation in my head. I started thinking what kind of girl he and the rest of BTS would like, and would like to ship them with the best and most talented girls in the world, if not me lol.

The negative side of comparing myself to them is wanting to be as talented as them or noticed by them, and focusing my thoughts around that, I guess. This includes wanting to live in a first world country like Korea, where life seems better and easier.

The Unlikely Music Choice

I’m not a Hip Hop fan! Anyone can tell, my vibe is mostly on the acoustic side. I am very much impressed by Suga’s rap and I love him for that, but the truth is, I don’t exactly know what good rap sounds like, because I barely heard any rap. The sound of BTS songs (both old and new) isn’t exactly the type that I would intentionally listen to (aside from the non-hiphop sounding ones). In fact, I only began to like Hip hop because of BTS.

I am also not a typical Kpop and dance fan. As I said, I’m more of an acoustic gal. I don’t value dancing skills as much as other people. I would put kpop in the lower part of my “upbeat songs” folder, which I would listen to for jogging. Again, I would never have intentionally listened to songs like Black Swan, Fire, and BST. Not my jam. But look at me now, impressed with them and I just don’t know why.

I said all these gaps in my interest, but now I started to genuinely enjoy the hip hop and kpop genre. I’ve even explored other groups.

Vocals - I am saying I don’t give a lot of value to dance, so I look at singing. But even in singing, they aren’t the best either. I don’t like Jin and V’s voices to be honest, I really mistook them for visuals who were just forced to sing. (It’s true for Jin. Hearing V’s opera voice changed this view, but I still don’t like his ordinary singing voice cause it sounds so muffled.) Jungkook is a great singer, but there are also guys better than him or at the same level as him in other groups, also good-looking, also good in dance. (Not sure about the dance part, cause I haven’t really seen other people’s performances, but I’m sure there are a lot more power vocals out there, like Exo guys or something.)

Talent (Instruments) - I’m totally an instruments person! I am always most impressed by singers/performers who are multi-talented, and play their own instruments - like Henry Lau (talent genius, I love him), and I know there are a lot more who aren’t noticed. But none of BTS are really all that great in instruments, though they’re starting to learn. Suga plays the piano, but he never really uses it in performances, so it is yet to truly impress me.

In terms of friendship, I haven’t seen other groups, but I heard they’re also close. IDK.

So why do I like them?

The Possible Reasons

I guess it’s that they are my first serious exposure to excellent dance performances in kpop. (I know now there are also other groups with synchronized and difficult dances, but back then, kpop groups’ dances that I know of did not make my jaw drop). Seriously, ON was so good. I guess it’s also the type of music they have that accentuates their incredible choreography and intense performance.

Their relationships with each other - Their brotherly love for each other is just so cute. From friendly banters, crackhead crazy moments, supporting each other (physically, mentally and emotionally) and even showing all their affection physically and verbally - it’s all very heartwarming. They truly love and appreciate one another and their togetherness.

They are crackheads and they all are genuinely nice people. I just love their stupid antics, Jin’s dad jokes, Jungkook’s banter, Maknae line’s mischief, and all their BTS craziness even from the hyung rap line.

On top of this, as it manifests in their relationships, they are really good-hearted men. They care about others, and are humble enough to talk issues through. Their synergy is really cool, seeing how they are all different people, but they work so well together, and I personally believe it’s because of their character.

Songwriting - I am a fan of actual artists - performers who make their own music, write and produce their own songs. Suga and RM’s (especially RM) writing makes BTS songs deep and speak volumes to people. The others have learned to create music too, so that’s nice. Honestly, I didn’t realize this until I heard people talk about this in the many comments I read. I didn’t know their songs had a lot of meaning. And I didn’t know they had that much involvement in their outputs. I just appreciate the idea that it has a lot of meaning, especially that they apparently speak about social issues that other kpop groups won’t talk about.

They’re good at other things too, like sports. Jungkook is just so fit. Suga is good in basketball. Jin is good in cooking. RM has a high IQ.

I guess they’re just so charismatic! Both on stage and off-stage!

Other people’s good word. A lot of promotions. Their personalities are also easily accessible. IDK.

Thinking about this and considering the possibility (and the fact) that there are many kpop groups and other musicians that are more handsome than them, more talented than them, and are also friendly with each other, I don’t know why I’m just that interested in checking them out. I guess I’ve filled my cup with a stan. Or maybe BTS has become too familiar, that they’ve become my comfort. Maybe getting to know other groups seems like another wave of extreme efforts, especially after seeing the effect it has on me.

I am a natural fan girl and addict. But I don’t think many musicians have impacted me like BTS did. (Even CN Blue, who fits the talent checklist in terms of instrument and songwriting, didn’t make me this obsessed.)

Oh well. It must be the promo being done by Big Hit. (I still like Bang PD for being a great CEO, giving the artists musical freedom and having more loose conditions for the idols than other companies.)

I sincerely hope writing all this quiets down my brain.

Nov Update: I’ve began to realize that the power of ARMYs are that strong because they are so effective in building a deep emotional connection to them. They have shown a lot of themselves in their different reality shows, and even in the way they are interviewed. Bighit really knows how to highlight one strong point about them - their great personalities. Getting to know them is both like becoming closer to friends and getting inspiration and learnings from icons. You get to have access to their inner thoughts and creative space. The way they speak and the message they put out also touches the hearts of many. On top of this, because they now work on a big budget, all their performances and productions are next level! Our jaw just drop because of the stage set ups and all that.

Additional observation: Upon watching other groups’ clips, I feel like BTS has a different kind of relationship with each other compared to them. While other groups obviously have fun and are very close, BTS are like family. They also have fun, but they are very expressive of their affection towards each other, not just verbally but also physically. They hug and touch each other randomly all the time, but I haven’t exactly seen other groups do that. So I guess there’s that.

Seven members is a good number - there is enough variety in personalities, but not too many that you don’t get to know each one enough/deeper. I feel like BTS members are a perfect fit for each other, each person has their own type of appeal. Other groups tend to have members that have similar vibes. But in BTS, there’s no duplicate, each one is so unique. RM is the charismatic, intelligent, socially-relevant leader, well-respected by everyone. Suga is the cool swag rapper with tsundere vibes, who also acts like a tired old man. Jhope is the fashionable dancer knows all the latest trends, who also brings a different flavor of rap. Jimin is the petite, “effeminate”, loving, angelic character with intense performance duality. V is the 4D personality who acts like a baby but gives a high fashion smize on stage/photo shoots. Jin is the super handsome and incredibly funny guy, but also acts like a mom to them. Jungkook is the youngest who beats his hyungs physically and is good at everything. There’s no duplicate! And what can I say, they really have the visuals!

BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan/Beyond The Scene), composed of members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V & Jungkook, has been making huge waves not just in the Hallyu scene but also in the international stage. As of current, they have been breaking their own personal records through their comeback with mini album ‘Map of the Soul: Persona‘ and their title song ‘Boy with Luv‘ and is also continuously gaining a growing fanbase as their popularity spread around the world.

Through the influence that they bring to new and old fans alike, ARMY around the world become all interested in anything related to BTS, including the places that they go to.

Because of BTS, many places in South Korea that were seldom explored by locals and tourist alike are now being visited so often that you can likely call the tour a ‘BTS Tour’ on its own due to the number of outdoor filming locations that they use in their activities that are aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.

Having this topic at hand, I will be sharing with you some of the filming locations that you already saw from their ‘Spring Day‘ MV. Many more locations will be shared in the near future but it’s ‘Spring Day’ for today since it’s one of my favorite songs. 🙂

Let’s begin the tour!

Iryeong Station

V is the first member to appear during the opening of the ‘Spring Day’ MV. He’s seen standing in a snowy railway station all bundled up to fight the cold winter as he waits for the train to arrive. The train station signage read ‘Iryeong’, pertaining to the ‘Iryeong Station‘ in Yangju, Gyeonggi.

Iryeong Station, where this scene was shot, is actually a closed platform that has not been functioning since 2004. It is occasionally being used only for freight trains (or trains transporting goods).

How to get there: Seoul City Center via cab to Iryeong Station is about 40min of travel time.

Jumunjin Beach

Jumunjin Beach, located in Gangneung, Gangwon-do, is both the location for the ‘You Never Walk Alone’ album jacket & also some Jimin’s cuts in the ‘Spring Day’ MV.

The album jacket and MV itself are so aesthetically pleasing that at one point it also feels like a legit promotional video about other beautiful places in Korea. BTS made it so beautiful that fans kept coming to the place to get the feel of being at the same place where BTS filmed!

Aside from the serene sea and the white sand beach though, one iconic location that a lot of ARMY always look for is the ‘bus stop’ by Jumunjin Beach they used to shoot the album jacket for ‘You Never Walk Alone’. This bus stop is actually not a real one, but the city of Gangneung recreated the bus stop for fans that kept coming in search of it.

How to go there: Take a bus from Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal to Jumunjin Intercity Bus Terminal. From there, take a taxi for approx. 5 min.

Fact: This is the same beach where one of the scenes in drama ‘Goblin’ was filmed. So, going here is like hitting two birds with one stone if you’re also fan of the drama.

Sihwaho Lake

Sihwaho Lake located in Gyeonggi Province is another location for one of the scenes in the MV. It is shown at the latter part of the MV when the boys are finally together. They run towards the middle of the place and Jimin let’s go of the shoes he had been carrying with him by Jumunjin Beach. The members then watch the beautiful scene in front of them as the sun sets down behind the tree where the shoes where left at.

This tourist attraction is actually surrounded by cities of Ansan, Siheung & Hwaseong and it is actually a haven for migratory birds during winter. In addition, Sihwaho Lake is in fact formed as a result of land reclamation. The reclaimed wetlands and the man-made body of water is south of Incheon. That’s why it is said that the name of the lake came from the ‘si’ of Siheung & ‘hwa’ of Hwaseong,

PS: the lake is partly reclaimed land so if you’re going to try and find it on google maps you’ll only see water everywhere. However, I believe the place is near the tidal power plant built nearby.

Also, I’ve researched the longest for this location because I found another information about this setting in the MV. A Korean fan apparently went to the said filming location, but she had referenced it as ‘Woo Eum Island’ and when I tried digging a bit more about the place I only saw pictures with the ‘outcast tree’ in the MV and found that it’s located in Hwaseong. It would be difficult to find more info about the island though since pictures only mostly come up (the others are in korean text and I’m still a beginner). I feel though that I’m probably looking at two similar places because Sihwaho is around Hwaseong too, but I don’t know. Haha.

I can’t find more information but I think this scene with Jungkook was also shot here. That dilapidated merry go round must have been installed as prop only.

For the rest of the settings in the MV, like the scene with them sitting on a mountain of clothes, them on a train, them at the Omelas, them going down the stairs while Jin is capturing the moment, etc, were all shot mainly at a studio with CG making the settings look like a real place with a beautiful view and a magical effect on the ‘Spring Day’ MV.

bts home party...WAUW

as i’m sitting on the subway on my way back to my dorm (bc i’m too hyped to wait until i get back oops), i’m reflecting on the night i just had with people who were strangers sitting next to me who are now friends i can’t wait to keep in touch with as we bonded over our love for the 7 boys that make up bts ;; literally one of the best nights of my life but i aLWAYS SAY THAT ANY TIME I SEE THESE BOYS LIVE because they honestly work so hard and make us sO happy and i just can’t believe i got to experience a festa anniversary event irl like RIP ;;;;; click keep reading to read how i reacted to these 7 dorks all night along with the girls who were sitting next to me who are now my new friends lmao omg ♪(・∀・*)乂(*・∀・)ノ

- i had a solo photoshoot with the bts photos that were put up to take photos with and then these girls were like “let’s take pics together” bc i think they saw i was alone so i almost CRIED they were so sweet and they gave me cute free pins they made i love my fellow armys

- the line for merch felt like it would take forever but it didn’t and i got tae’s, jeon’s, jin’s, and hope’s straps bc i was too broke to afford them all but I’M STILL SUPER HAPPY and the transparent photocards and i had a mini dance party with myself after i bought them lol

- i sat in line with the girls i made friends with and we basically were just fangirling and crying over kinda hearing what the boys were rehearsing and then i told them how i would probs pee myself during the concert and they were like “FIND US AFTER THE CONCERT IF YOU NEED EXTRA UNDERWEAR” and i was like in DISBELIEF bc of how cute and nice they were omfg

- then we were let in and when i got to my seat (section b) i COULD NOT BELIEVE how intimate this venue was omfg anD THEN THE LIGHTS DIMMED AND I ALMOST STARTED HYPERVENTILATING I WAS SO SHOOK

- the opening parody of bst i LEGIT held onto the girl next to me bc i was laughing so hard esp when yoongi refused jin’s kiss oMFG

- THE AMOUNT OF RYANS NAMJOON HAS LEGIT MADE ME YELP AND THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE WEARING RYAN PAJAMAS IT WAS SO CUTE

- everyone was HARDCORE FEELING 여기봐 AND I TRIED TO SING TAEKOOK’S “외롭다고 징징댈 땐 이미 늦었어” IN FALSETTO TOO AND LET’S JUST SAY THE GIRL NEXT TO ME WAS LAUGHING SO HARD

- the ROOMMATE BATTLES were so funny even though i don’t understand korean 100% i could just feel what they were saying and also the girl next to me semi translated for me and i almost CRIED she was so SWEET I LOVE PEOPLE

- i spit out my water when yoongi drew taehyung i could not BELIEVE how min yoongi, an intellect, drew him so PERFECTLY
