You and your childhood friend, Qiu were hanging out in your living room. It was late, your mom was still at work and Qiu’s parents decided on a spontaneous dinner date and trusted Qiu wouldn’t get into any trouble while they were gone.

Which Qiu thought was stupid, I mean what trouble could they get into so late at night?

They sat on one of the few mismatched couches and messed around with one of your mom’s pillows that had a loose string.

You were sitting on the floor, with an older disk player near you. You had been digging around your room and found it under your bed and decided to play some music.

“Which disk do you wanna listen to? The first or the second one?” You had asked them, holding up the two shiny disks.

“I don’t care, You can pick,” Qiu replied, shrugging while holding the pillow closer to their chest. They didn’t mind what music was played, just as long as they could enjoy your company.

“The second one then” you proposed, popping it into the player and clicking ‘play’.

The both of you were happy with the choice when a soft melody rang throughout the room. It didn’t have any lyrics, it sounded like something Tamarack’s grandparents may have played in the background while entertaining guest in their “drawing room”.

“Nice,” Qiu assured, flopping down onto the couch.

The two of you sat quietly while listening to the music, you swayed a little and started to hum.

Qiu perked up at the sound but didn’t say anything, worried that you might stop out of embarrassment.

They propped up their cheek with their palm and just watched as you turned that hum into a melody with a for once, at peace smile.

They really liked your voice.

TAMARACK BAUMANN🍂

She thinks you out-sing any famous pop star or church choir any day. She honestly thinks your voice is so angelic.

She loves it when you give her mini concerts while you two walk in the woods together.

I BET both my lungs that you and Tamarack have duets 100%

You two make a lot of music together and record it on one of her Opa’s camcorders.

Her Omi asks the both of you if you can try and cover a Frank Sintra song often.

If you do choir or singing lessons either at school or music hall then expect to practice with her nearly every day.

Tamarack can never duet with another singer because they aren’t you, and can never replicate the melody.

It was late afternoon, a few hours after school ended. Tamarack sat by her windowsill, reading a book about what and what not to feed forest critters when she flinched at the sudden pang of a pebble being thrown at her window.

She decided to look out and giggled seeing who it was, she opened the window and called down.

“MC, If you wanted to come in!… You could have just knocked!” Tamarack chuckled behind her hand, it always made her a little giddy when you would stand below her window like some Shakespearean love story.

“Nah! This is quick, just sit up there and listen!” You gave the ginger a thumbs up before pulling out a bulky boombox that may be older than some of the adults you guys knew.

“Pfft, What are you doing?” Tamarack kept laughing.

“I am going to sing something!!!” You yelled up before you pressed played and let the music play out a little.

Tamarack’s laughter quieted down at that, she paused for a moment before asking.

“Are you trying to serenade me?”

You also paused before answering. “Yeah, that's basically it”

You then lowered the volume of the old boombox and began to sing along with the song’s melody. You didn’t lose eye contact while you sang to her, so this moment felt special and intimate.

Tamarack put a hand to her cheek and watched down with an increasingly growing blush on her cheeks.

She listened to you singing to her and thought quietly to herself. ‘She didn’t deserve such an adorable gesture from you. You were way too good for her. You probably were…doing.. this.. to ..be ..n..ice-‘

Her self-deprecating thoughts were slowly drowned out by your singing, It was sweet of you. After all, Tamarack did love your singing.

Omg I have so many headcanons for them it's been so long since I've had the excuse to talk about old beeduo on main lmao - they used to mean so much to me! Anywho - let's dive in :)

TW: burn scars, blood, long post, beeduo I guess

I took the popular fanon design of c!Tubbo as a faun/goat hybrid critter and RAN with it. I wanted him to come across with a similar vibe to an LOTR dwarf, if that makes sense: short but strong, capable of great warmth to friends he keeps close and great coldness to the enemies he keeps even closer.

Of course, he has his iconic burn from the firework explosion that marred half of his face, blinding him in one eye and causing him to lose several of his fingers.

He keeps his platonic engagement ring on his horn, both as a decoration, and as a promise to the world that happiness can still be found even in the darkest times.

c!Ranboo keeps his ring on his finger, however.

c!Ranboo's design is probably my most iconic and well-known, by a mile. I originally actually envisioned him to look more like the Cherubs from Homestuck, but as time passed his design changed to be more fae-like, and 'Mooseboo' was born.

When it comes to his general demeanor, c!Ranboo would always hunch himself over and keep his tail close to himself in order to try to appear smaller and less menacing. Despite being incredibly tall and quite physically powerful, he mastered the art of looking like a lost puppy.

The gold and gems from his MC skin's crown I incorporated into the 'Mooseboo' design via his antlers, which are gilded and decorated with gems and Ender eye stones. Some more headcanons I have about the antlers: during Christmas time, Michael would climb up onto Ranboo's shoulders and decorate his antlers with lights and tinsel! Just like a regular moose, he does shed his antlers annually. He would normally choose just dispose of them, but Tubbo likes to keep them on display in the mansion (they are covered in gold, after all!).

I further deviated from his canon design by giving him teal blood (as that's what color Ender eyes are) as opposed to red and green.

Another design difference is his facial markings. Instead of interpreting the grey spots on his MC skin as tear scars, I interpreted them as his own natural facial markings!

One other random headcanon I have is that while c!Ranboo is a capable warrior, he does not like to kill if he doesn't have to. As such, I always loved the idea of him using a bo staff to incapacitate or knock out enemies, rather than a sword or axe to fatally stab/cut them.

As for Ghostboo, I really leaned into the idea that the character really was just c!Ranboo's walking corpse, so I designed him to look emaciated and zombie-like (at this point I had started to draw c!Ranboo with his di-colored blood as opposed to my classic teal).

When going into the Enderwalk mode, Ranboo would take on a more menacing appearance. His antlers and limbs would seem to grow, his complexion would darken, and his eyes and mouth would glow purple.

20. A weird headcanon

Yoriko briefly really wanted to start a band, and Touka actually got really good at playing the electric guitar because of it. The band never happened but she retains the skill. Karaoke night at Anteiku is all fun and games until Touka breaks out the guitar and now everyone’s just sitting on the floor in awe while she duets whatever song gets chosen on the jukebox out of their small catalog. She’s got Wonderwall down to a T at this point, everyone say thanks Koma. 

23. Future headcanon

After the utter chaos of the dragon died down, she returned to her ambition of researching the origin of ghouls! She became widely respected in her field and wrote a couple books with theories that were used far into the future, and eventually one of them was proven. 

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

When she worked at Anteiku, she collected little scraps of travel magazines, research articles, etc. and kept them in a drawer. Just motivation for days when pretending to be a human at school was difficult.

Ayato! Garbage child, committed 3 war crimes before he learned what a kidney was, banned from 4 public restaurants.

20. A weird headcanon

If he wasn’t a ghoul his beverage of choice would be some terrible soft drink or just straight milk with no alternative. I can’t specify the prior because I’ve had a singular sip of about 2 sodas in my entire life but I can speak for the latter, because the two of us are very similar in certain ways and I thrive on milk. No one has ever made the interesting critter joke and it saddens me.

23. Future headcanon

I know he’s canonically 5’5 (170cm) by the end of the series but consider, it would be way funnier if he just stayed 5’2 (159 cm) and for that reason I will always draw him shorter than everyone. Pry short Ayato out of my cold dead hands Ishida you can’t make me believe this idiot is even average height. 

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

Generally he did a lot of stuff at Aogiri he’s not proud of at all anymore. Many ghouls are forced to kill from very young ages on account of their parents being taken by the CCG, but they’ll still have someone to help them compartmentalize it, and typically they’re not slaughtering for the sake of slaughtering in the name of a terrorist organization. He had a lot of power and a need to prove everyone wrong and to prove himself, so he blindly committed at least a few atrocities mindlessly following a command. He refuses to open up about any of it. 

Renji! Uncle by birth, good one by choice.

20. A weird headcanon

He genuinely does not know how to tie a standard shoelace knot. Any pair of shoes with laces he owns were tied once by someone else and are functionally slip-ons. Uta refuses to teach him because he thinks watching this grown man struggle to keep his shoes on is the absolute HEIGHT of comedy, and Yomo refuses to ask anyone else because of pride. So Uta will continue to lose his goddamn mind in peace. Why did the mask maker just fall off his chair cackling? Look across the room, Renji’s probably fighting for his life with a piece of string and losing. 

23. Future headcanon

Constantly anticipating the next murder attempt from your closest companion is… an objectively miserable way to live. But he’s also still well aware Uta will go right back to “tormenting everyone you love because I desperately need your attention if I can’t have your affection.” So he has no choice but to tolerate it for a very long time. However, I like to think it gets more tame with time. From ward-shaking battles to simple poison in his drinks and whatnaught. Sometimes Uta just jumps out of his closet and stabs him halfheartedly 3 times with a stolen quinque and then goes home and that’s the murder attempt for the week. It’s a funny dynamic because that’s a miserable day for Uta and he’s probably going to be pondering the emptiness of his own existence for the rest of the night and is only held back because of lack of drive, and a good one for Renji because in his mind less murdering is a sign of calming down, right? And he can focus on his actual healthy family and friends. Also like a couple others I’ve seen, I do like the thought that eventually Uta is successful. It fixes nothing.

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

Overall he's a very secretive person but I should probably think of something relatively amusing because I could go on about genuine regrets for a while... As a teenager in the fourth ward he'd graffiti ravens with bloody claws, and thought it was very cool and tragic at the time, but on account of his poor art skills they kind of just looked like weird black blobs with red feet. That unrecognizable form was a blessing and a curse because he can insist that it definitely wasn't him without major suspicion.

Confused by the question. If you’re asking what I, myself, am wearing while doodling, probably pajamas tbh. If you’re asking what sort of outfit I like to draw characters in, usually just their canon outfit tbh. But I’m an absolute sucker for RIDICULOUS and FABULOUS blazers and coats for my original characters. ✨✨✨

I wouldn’t say any of them really creepy me out, so I’ll just share my two favorites, which are The Pumpkin Song (mention of a cat + mecore fr) and Hamantha (she’s just impossible to ignore).

No plain water ever again. If I’m really craving WATER, I’ll just drink water with a liiiittle bit of lemon juice or smthn in it to make it *technically* not “just plain water”.

The worst job? For me, personally, definitely a hooker. I’m asexual- I think that speaks for itself. I also just don’t really like touching people in general yk?

I pet that critter until it’s so happy it starts headbutting my hand. I’m gonna pick it up and carry it with me to wherever I need to go. (Unless it’s outside, in which case I will make that critter the BEST, MOST COMFORTABLE little spot to snuggle EVER and I will cuddle them when I return from The Outside.)

Clay! I’m mostly a sculpture artist and clay is super great to work with because of how easy it is to shape. I’m a bit pickey with my clay though- I don’t really like air dry clays or baking clays because of how weirdly rubbery they are. You can’t make slip (equal parts clay and water-basically clay glue) with them and if you’re building a Thing in pieces, it is an absolute NIGHTMARE to try to attach them securely. Low-fire cone 05-06 white clay and mid-high-fire cone 5-6 speckled buff clay bodies are my favorites to work with because of how soft they are- they make really good slip and it’s easy to build in pieces because they attach super easily with just a little bit of scoring, slipping, and pulling. I can get a ton of detail in firing clays that air dry and baking clays just won’t allow. I also generally prefer the look of glaze to paints on my art. I like creating utilitarian items from clay too, so I need glazed stoneware to make them food safe. Like this cool sgraffito plate I made last year!

There’s also a ton of amazing decorating techniques that are possible with firing clays, but not air dry or baking clays. One of my favorites is definitely raku, which is where you fire a piece to bisque, then apply raku glaze (special glaze) and fire that. BUT here’s the important part that makes it raku- you have to fire it at an insanely high temperature (750°C) VERY QUICKLY and take it out of the kiln while it’s red-hot. Then you stick it straight into a metal container of some sort with flammable material in the bottom (shredded newspaper, dried leaves, etc.) and let it catch fire. Then you put the lid on the metal container and let it burn until it runs out of air. Now you can either let it sit in there for a while to cool or you can remove it to let it cool- it doesn’t particularly matter. Firing with this method makes the most INSANE glaze patterns and it’s also so gorgeous omg- Here have some examples:

It’s really pretty and super fun to do because it’s not often that you get to set your art on fire and have it turn gay. I’ve done exactly one raku firing and it was one of the absolute best things I’ve ever done. SO fun.

Anyway that was quite the ceramics rant there… 👀

Oh man you will not BELIEVE the designs I've made, some of them are really out there! I'm so glad we're on the same wavelength, because a lot of your art is actually what's helped me develop mine! I was terrible at figuring out how to draw dragons how I wanted for a while, but then you posted your how-to's and it's helped me figure out what I wanted SO much- and since then I've even expanded into buggy types like 404 here!

You guys engage in small talk while walking, pointing something out that you see, but your walks are usually silent. No need to talk with the beautiful scenery around you

Kirishima:

I think Kirishima would make the greatest friend for you. He’s pretty loud, but knows when it’s time to get serious. He’s very supportive of every decision you make, and will back you up 100000% of the way. He really knows how to get people out of their comfort zone, so I think he’d help you a lot with your awkwardness and shyness without even meaning to. Not that you need to act a different way to be his friend, you’re perfect the way you are.

He’s very easy to talk to, he’ll have you laughing in seconds, making you feel very comfortable around him–hence why you’re friends lol. Kirishima cries with you, laughs with you, and goes to war with you (gets angry with you if someone makes you upset lol). Another ride or die, but he’s willing to tell you if you’re the one being unreasonable–he’s honest like that. 

He likes watching you draw and tries to copy (but fails). He’ll strick a pose randomly and ask you to draw him. But he’s genuinely in awe at how talented you are and wishes he could be more like you in that aspect. His quirk makes it a little hard for him to do delicate things such as drawing, so he truly respects your talent. I think you guys would have a blast together, hanging out and having fun in class together! I could picture you maybe even giving him lessons in drawing and whatever classes he needs help in. <3

Walking with Kirishima:

Now, Kirishima is an active guy, so most of your relaxing walks end up with you guys running

Don’t get me wrong, they start off relaxing where you’re watching the soft slow of the sun setting (you usually walk together after class) 

But his pace gradually increases until he’s full on running, laughing while he encourages you to keep up

In the moments where it is calm though, he gets distracted very quickly

He’ll see a bundle of clovers on the ground near a tree stump and he’ll gravitate towards it a spend a good 30 min looking through each of them to see if he can find a four leaf clover 

OR he’ll see a rock and bends down to pick it up every few minutes to add to his collection (idk why I headcanon that he’d collect rocks lol)

If you guys end up near a lake or pond, get ready to stop again bc you’ll both be seeing who can skip a stone the farthest

I think it would be a good time walking with him though–he definitely knows how to keep things interesting

My favourite three musketeers character is actually the Comte de Rochefort 😳😳 but not exactly as he is in the original novel, more the way he is characterised in adjacent media, especially animated adaptations of the story (specifically D’Artagnan Et Les Trois Mousquetaires, the 1982 anime where all the characters are dogs or other small critters, and Sous Le Signe Des Mousquetaires, the 1989 anime) This is super niche, I know! But I’m a huge sucker for bad guy character that goes from enemies to rivals to begrudging ally to friend of the main characters, I live for that, and that’s literally Rochefort’s character arc in the books, but all the good enemies to friends action happens off-screen (off-page?) as Dumas just sort of tells us D’Artagnan and Rochefort fought a bunch and then ended up being friends in the epilogue, iirc. The animated media adaptions made for children just make it more obvious! And often more silly 🤭 Also I have a baby brain and I like looking at pretty images. Anyway, Rochefort number 1 ❤️✨

My opinion on Captain Treville is that I love him, he is a Dad. Assigned father of a hundred feral men with swords. A stellar character, absolutely no notes. As for the Cardinal, I mean, who doesn’t love the ‘king’s advisor is clearly duplicitous and self-interested and everyone can see it but the king still employs him’ trope. Who doesn’t love a good ambitious, morally grey, stops at nothing but ostensibly on the ‘good’ side antagonist once in a while. Good stuff, says I. + The two play off each other so well imo. Sorry if that’s not very new or interesting! I don’t usually have very fresh or creative takes on things 😭😭

It is a very well crafted film that defies expectations - and yes, you should walk into the film as absolutely free of them as you can manage. The R rating is largely for cursing (which happens throughout) and drug use and vaping. Nope is also a horror movie where the horror is not from jump scares or gore (when violence happens, it's almost entirely off-screen (though often just off screen), but through the implications of the story itself. Mild to OMG MAJOR spoilers for Nope, From Dusk Till Dawn, Stranger Things, and maybe some other properties ahead.

Let me start reviewing Nope by saying that I do not care for the Tarantino/Rodriguez team-up From Dusk Till Dawn, but I absolutely adore Nope. From Dusk Till Dawn is, in my opinion, two movies stitched together. The first half is a classic Tarantino talky crime banterfest, which suddenly transforms into a completely different movie with no warning. The tone, plot, and everything else shift with the harshness of a scratching record. To me, that feels like a gimmick, as if Megan Thee Stallion suddenly started performing Metallica's "Master of Puppets."

RIP Eddie. At first glance, Nope also shifts tone. More than once. But unlike the other film, the tonal shift is not precipitated by sudden changes in the plot of the film, but rather our expectations. As new information is revealed to the protagonists - and us - their attitude changes, which changes everything else. The tonal changes felt organic and like outgrowths of the character's personalities. They are not record scratches, but redirects and misdirects, a technique that Peele honed during his comedic time with Keegan-Michael Key, the horror equivalent of comedic songs that make you think they're going to curse: "I knew a guy who was down on his luck / he might have been poor, but he liked to FISH". Likewise, time jumps tend to annoy me - see the first season of The Witcher for an example of how to do it badly. There, the time jumps are unsignaled, but in Nope there's clear demarcations demonstrating when the focus shifts back and forth from the past. Yes, I also finished the first viewing with more questions than answers. And after a second viewing, there are some questions that remain - but those are questions that I do not think should be answered. But everything else that matters - specifically why the events of the movie unfold the way they do - are answered in full. Sometimes with a line of dialogue, sometimes by thinking things through. While others have dissected the "themes" and "meaning" of the film, I want to focus on the plot of the story here, and to do that, we have to reassemble the film's events (at least regarding the critter) into chronological order. - Gordy brings Ricky "Jupe" Park's TV career to a traumatic halt with his on-set assault. - The "Gold Rush" attraction next door to Haywood Ranch goes bankrupt, and is bought by Jupe, and renamed "Jupiter's Claim". - Three years pass. - "Jean Jacket" shows up and consumes one of Jupe's horses in front of him; he believes the entity to be a UFO. This is also the same time that Otis senior is killed. It's possible - even probable - that Jean Jacket was being a "transient" at this point, having picked off the hikers earlier (and their detritus killing Otis Senior) before Jupe sees him. - During the next off-screen six months, Jupe keeps buying horses one at a time from the Haywoods, despite there not being not that many horses visible at "Jupiter's Claim". Jupe knows the horses he bought are gone - he is glad of the distraction from OJ's wanting to buy the horses back from him eventually. Jupe also wants to buy the ranch - "Su casa is mi casa" he says when Em starts looking around his office - presumably to keep the Haywoods from stumbling over Jean Jacket. - Jupe has been practicing Pavlovian training to draw out Jean Jacket. This free food source We see this at the beginning when Ghost escapes and runs down the valley toward Jupiter's Claim. The lights are all on at Jupiter's Claim, and we hear Jupe himself practicing the speech he later gives. To answer one of Screen Rant's questions - I don't think you can directly see Jupiter's Claim from the Haywood ranch - we only see it when OJ goes further out into the ranch to chase Ghost, despite what Screen Rant claims. Additionally, OJ is pretty obviously an "early to bed early to rise" kind of guy most of the time and has been focused on chores and the ranch, not whatever Jupe is doing. - Ghost is consumed by Jean Jacket, who is then drawn to the Haywood ranch by the light and sound that Em - who is usually not there partying - is creating. At that point, Jean Jacket's "range" or "territory" grows to include not just Jupiter's Claim, but the Haywood ranch as well. At that point, the rest of the events of the movie are pretty much portrayed in chronological order. Yet there's people and sites - such as this Screen Rant article "Nope: 10 Things That Didn't Make Sense About The Movie" - that claim there are mistakes and plot holes, but they're missing things. So let's get into those. First, yes, a coin could kill Otis Senior - because unlike the Mythbusters experiment cited, the coin does not go through the thick top of the skull, but the MUCH thinner bone behind the ocular cavity. Remember, there's an actual hole there for the optical nerve to pass through. So why is there so much screen time devoted to Gordy? Double duty. It explains both Jupe's actions and gives a character arc - Jupe not only makes the same mistake that Gordy's handler's made, but also shows that he's reached a point of desperation where Jupe thinks that he and his family alone are not enough to be successful. A good guess, given the failure of "Gold Rush" in the same location a few years before. The most successful part of his theme park is his semi-secret shrine to Gordy that he charges people to visit; it's no surprise that he then tries to hitch his star to another external entity. Why the name Jean Jacket? It's again double duty - not only does it tie the critter to a "hard to tame" horse, but more importantly, provides the arc for Em's transition from absolutely incompetent animal handler (even flubbing the safety briefing at the beginning COMPLETELY) to being the one who is actually able to "break" the creature, as well as showing how OJ and Em's relationship has been rebuilt by this ordeal to the intensity and love they had as children (the "looking at you" bit). Why does Jean Jacket hide so much of the time? Because it's a predator, and specifically a transient predator. I'm reminded of this passage talking about the two big categories of orcas in the Peter Watts novel Blindsight: "I said forget the language. Think about the lifestyle. Residents are fish-eaters, eh? They hang out in big groups, don't move around much, talk all the time." ... "Transients, now—they eat mammals. Seals, sea lions, smart prey. Smart enough to take cover when they hear a fluke slap or a click train. So transients are sneaky, eh? Hunt in small groups, range all over the place, keep their mouths shut so nobody hears 'em coming." -- Blindsight, Peter Watts So yes, Jean Jacket hides a lot of the time, especially now that it found a reliable food source. How/why does Angel survive? Dumb luck. While he was wrapping himself in the tarp (which caused him to stop staring at it when he first got hit by it), he was also tangled in the barbed-wire fence. You can actually see him still attached to the fence as he's pulled skyward, which is what keeps him from being drawn into Jean Jacket. Sure, he probably should have a few more broken bones and a concussion, but... Why doesn't Lucky die in the Star Lasso Experience? Because Jupe fastened that cage down. While Jean Jacket consistently pulls loose objects into itself, it's only after consuming all the people there that it has the ... strength? energy? ... to do enough to damage the Haywood ranch. The entirety of Jupiter's Claim is left intact, so why expect another building there to be lifted up? Glass (even plexiglass) is heavy. Perhaps the most obvious of Screen Rant's questions, though - and one I heard in the theater - was asking why OJ didn't notice Jean Jacket for six months. As Screen Rant puts it: Not only does he not notice the strange cloud hovering around the Agua Dulce ranch, but he also doesn't pay attention to the power outages, or the reports of the people who have gone missing. There's two big reasons. The first is that Jean Jacket had - until Ghost and Em accidentally attracted its attention - been sticking around Jupiter's Claim and largely staying out of sight. The power outages have a radius that does not extend all the way from Jupiter's Claim to the Haywood ranch, so if the very practical and matter-of-fact OJ had not been looking, he wouldn't have noticed any of it. Would you notice a power outage two blocks away if it didn't affect you? The other is something called "inattention blindness". Our brains edit out things that we don't expect to see, particularly if the strange thing is something that doesn't pose an immediate threat or opportunity for us. Again, can you tell me which clouds were where the last time you looked out the window? I sure couldn't. And thanks to, well, geography, it's not uncommon for similar conditions to produce similar clouds on a regular basis. There are three broad groups of questions I've heard that I don't have answers for. I don't have any explanations why Holst shoots on a particular type of film, or doesn't have a reload canister ready. (They start shooting beforehand because Holst is documenting the whole thing, not just the appearance of Jean Jacket, so yes, he wants the whole thing on his IMAX camera. Holst is obsessed with legacy more than any of the others - also why he goes to get the "impossible" shot, trying to secure his legacy at the cost of his life.) I don't know why satellites don't pick up Jean Jacket's EM disturbances. Then again, we don't know squat about Jean Jacket's EM disturbances, other than they have a limited range and kill power sources. It's also not an EMP in the way that we normally think about it - because the devices come back on without their memory or drives corrupted. The third category is about Jean Jacket, and I think that our ignorance there is the point. Where was Jean Jacket before all this? Don't know. Where did it come from? Don't know. And I think we shouldn't. Jean Jacket's design is not that of a typical movie monster. It is alien as hell, combining flowing forms with right angles that nature simply does not make. It moves in ways that are frankly impossible. And in this, Jean Jacket achieves something that no number of Pacific Rim kaiju can: it is eldritch and occult. Though we have a slow reveal of the creature, as in most horror films, in comparison to, say, Alien, it is fully revealed fairly early on. But unlike a "traditional" monster that frightens through its appearance, the horror of Jean Jacket is through what it implies. Jean Jacket's (frankly beautiful) final design and form, along with its unknown origin and movements, are what make it a thing of cosmic horror. The questions left behind are those that Lovecraft originally left us with a century ago. Its form may be now known to us - but its mysterious origins and abilities - as well as whether it is the only one - make us consider our place in the universe. Yes, Jean Jacket is a creature. And yes, it does have some predictable behaviors based on predator/prey relationships. And that's the scary part, because that's all we know. Think about it. Jean Jacket does not know about fake horses, or about technology. Less so than coyotes, wolves, or other terrestrial predators that have been forced to coexist with humans over the last century. So presumably, Jean Jacket is either new to the neighborhood, a juvenile, or both. Again, Jean Jacket - and presumably its species - are transients. Not just transients to California. Transients to Earth. Transients that, perhaps, last came by this part of space seventy-odd years ago and thirty five years after that, at the heights of the UFO crazes. Perhaps earlier, if you count pre-WWII sightings like these and these and these. Unlike the Predator race - whose motives are ultimately understandable by humans - the motivations, numbers, and so on of Jean Jacket's species are simply unknown. Forget whether or not Jean Jacket might have survived. That's not important. We don't know if Jean Jacket was defeated out of a lack of intelligence - or simply because it was ignorant. The Haywoods and Angel should enjoy their victory over Jean Jacket. Because we don't know if there are more. And if the next one might be just a little bit older, and a little bit smarter. I much prefer creatures from shallow waters!! i am actually super afraid of deep water, and while i think deep sea creatures are amazingly cool i tend not to go looking for deep sea things because the deep sea scares me lol. i like swimming in lakes and the ocean and such! i'm just also scared of it! tide pool critters are like. my fav type of water dwelling critters. just lil guys!! existing in tiny pools of water!!!

I am an international relations major! seems a bit useless in the current political climate tbh, it was different when I started, but at least it's very heavy on languages, which I love. When I'm not slacking off on getting this degree I draw (badly), write (decently I hope) and play video games, mostly rpgs (awfully but I'm having fun). aww, thank you!! for me personally, i’m in the production side of things (though i have taken analyses classes, and i love them!! they’ve been some of my favorites, actually). for me, i’m into the writing/directing most (though i’m very willing to help people anywhere i can! and lighting/sound is close to getting me like writing and directing, if i’m entirely honest). and yes!! i’ve been working on lighting and sound (and the next show we do, i actually get to be sound board op for!! i’m pretty excited—i just found out friday, too!!) and that’s absolutely okay—i was too!! i’m still not entirely sure what all it entails, if i’m fully honest, simply because while there’s a lot that stays the same there’s also a lot of little odd jobs you end up doing that give you variation (which is exactly what i was hoping for when i signed up for this, so it’s perfect!!)

AND YESSS it’s the same here!!!! i love my dog to death and back, but… i think i’m always going to have that immediate soft spot for all cats

57 Thoughts I Had While Watching Part 2 of The Bad Batch Season Finale (Spoilers ahead!!)

I do like how Part 2 picks right up where Part 1 left off. I prefer that method since it makes it feel like one connected piece. Like how Rogue One ended where A New Hope kicks off.

Okay the explosions are beautifully animated. The blues, the sparks, the orange flames. And I like how they’re realistically placed. So many shows with explosions don’t have them right close to the characters, even if they’re supposed to be all around them.

This episode is kinda darkly lit. Not like Battle of Winterfell in Game of Thrones.

Okay yeah, that clone reporting the destruction…thats some sadness there.

That inner alarm has me thinking “oh shit my flight has changed gates again hasn’t it!!”

Hmmmmmm I’m with Crosshair on that. Going through a glass tunnel with cracks in it hundreds of feet below the surface would be a no from me. Also, what about water pressure? Is that not a thing there? Like wouldn’t you get a massive headache traveling through that? Or maybe not….idk.

Oh fuck Wrecker letting Crosshair know what’s what. I do like that he’s finally expressing how he feels. I’ve always thought there was more of a brotherly relationship between Wrecker and Crosshair than Crosshair had with the others. And Wrecker has a point, Crosshair didn’t even try to come back to them. Of course that really isn’t a fair statement either I guess. Wrecker should remember how he couldn’t control what he did when his chip kicked on.

And Tech jumping in and saying that Crosshair has always been “severe and unyielding” is a good way to let us know a bit more of what’s normal behavior for Crosshair. I like how he’s reminded Wrecker that some things Crosshair can’t help due to just how he is (likely a byproduct of the enhancement experiments).

“Understanding you does not mean I agree with you.” Ugh if only more people had this mindset. Also, the whole “why are you defending me?” sounds like Tech doesn’t usually leap to Crosshair’s defense (even though that’s not what he’s doing here). Which further makes me think that the brotherly relationship that usually exists between team members (like Domino squad eventually, Rex/Echo/Fives/Kix/Jesse/Hardcase/Tup) doesn’t exist here between all the guys. It’s more sporadic. Crosshair seems to get along better with Wrecker (in their own way, teasing and their droid death counts) than he does with Tech.

Also perhaps they should not stop so often…ya know, just in case the tunnel implodes.

AZ is so peppy. Like he sounds so positive when relaying bad news. He sounds like the kinda droid that would be like “good news is you have great cholesterol, bad news is you have cancer. But yay no diabetes!”

But kudos to Hunter for reminding him the Empire peaced the fuck out and left him to die on Kamino. Although…Crosshair does sound like he’s trying not to care about that. Like it does bother him but he’s acting like he don’t give a fuck.

“The Empire will control the entire Galaxy. And I’m going to be a part of it.” Uhm, sir…you’re currently in a secret lab at the bottom of the ocean with no means of escape right now. How do you plan to be a part of the Empire from down here? Like, are you going to establish the underwater branch of the Empire and assert the Emperor’s control over the sea critters?

Ugh Omega trying so hard to bond with Crosshair. Like the parallel between this scene and the holding cell scene. And her thinking she was wrong about the chip making him behave like a dick. Oh sweet baby, you’re not wrong. He still has that thing. But he has always been a dick per Tech’s words earlier. But she’s trying so hard to show him the similarities between them.

I’ve noticed Crosshair does a lot of pushing people away. Like he’s been doing that with Hunter and Omega this whole season. Speaking harshly to them both (although I think some of the things he says to Hunter, he’s always wanted to say). But I think it’s more that he wants to avoid disappointing them, so he shoves them away to prevent that feeling. Like perhaps he thinks he isn’t worthy to be around them, that they’ll be better off without him around.

Oh fuck, look at you contributing now Mr. I Am Going To Complain About Other People’s Ideas.

Did they have to draw straws to see who got their own pod and who had to team up with who? Like,

Hunter looks more wary than upset honestly. Like he isn’t sure why Crosshair did that, but he’s not sure if Crosshair would want him expressing gratitude either. Hunter doesn’t seem to know how to treat him any more. Crosshair belittles him and speaks harshly to him, but then saves Omega. It’s almost like old Crosshair is still in there, knowing how attached the team is to Omega. Even if he does think she’s not in the safest environment with them.

Oh…omg what is this?! I just noticed, no rain on Kamino….AND SUNSHINE?! Like is that a fucking sunrise??!!?? Oh shit you guys there is symbolism here!!! Like a new start or something impossible has happened. Like there has never been sunshine on Kamino, it’s always stormed. Always. Always and forever it has done that. But after the destruction of Tipoca City, the rains cease and the sunshine comes out. Like….omg guys. It’s pretty!!

Interesting. Omega seems sad that a place she didn’t want to ever return to is gone. But I guess that’s probably the notion that she’s essentially homeless setting in. That the only home she’s had (before Clone Force 99) is gone.

Also, I have this theory that Ghost Fives probably travels with Echo, and he’d likely be like “good! Fuck that place. Killing Tup there and all. Bitches.”

Honestly I’m not surprised Crosshair refused their offer to come with them. He has his pride and I feel like he doesn’t want to admit aligning with the Empire was a mistake. That he was wrong and Hunter was right. Especially after being all Pro-Empire and talking about how they’re going to be what the Galaxy needs.

“Consider us even.” GIRL he admits it! He was saving YOU!! YOU! Not the dumb droid, YOU!!!!

His face says it all when they pull away. Like he regrets not going with them, but he can’t bring himself to stay with them. He’s really conflicted right now. He has programming in his head telling him one thing and another portion of his mind reminding him that Tech, Wrecker, Hunter, and even Echo care about him. That they’re a team. He even wanted them to join the Empire so they could all get back together. He does want to be with them, but it’s going to take time to get passed the war in his head.

Oh damn, Nala Se and some Commando buddies. Yeah there’s something up with her. She seems to have gained a lot out of this. Making herself more important than Lama Su and likely more important than the other scientists from Kamino. I wonder if this was her plan all along. It’s so hard to tell what Kaminoans are thinking because they don’t express emotions facially or even vocally.

I read a post somewhere about Nala Se doing childish science experiments. Like the baking soda/vinegar volcano. And now I can’t get the image out of my head of her teaching like a high school chemistry class where you get to do those classic science fair experiments. At this point we cut to the next scene which is still in the same place and with the same characters but now lwj has his ribbon back on his forehead

It would’ve been hilarious since jc and wen qing wouldve been watching it all happen lol

like, i’m just picturing wq and jc being awkwardly silent as lwj unravels his ribbon from wwx’s wrist. wwx’s eyes would ofc be glued on lwj and he’d be babbling some inane thing or another

but we didn’t get that. oh well.

Oh, and here we find out that lwj and wwx were in that cave for one day and one night

Now that lwj is all put together again, we see wwx, jc, and wq have a conversation that i think counts as a wangxian moment

Jc and wq both start throwing questions at our boys about where they’ve been and what they were doing and all that

Lwj looks very uncomfortable about all the questions.

Lans don’t lie (supposedly; lwj is such a stickler at this point in his life he def doesn’t lie)

So wwx swoops in to ~rescue~ him!!

He answers all the questions by lying thru his teeth: oh yeah, we got lost and trapped and swam for hours and hours in an underground, waterlogged maze that definitely exists before we finally found a way out!! I almost froze to death (he says with a whine bc that’s just how he is lol)

Once he finishes answering all those questions he turns to share THE CUTEST LITTLE SECRET SMILE WITH LWJ. SO ADORABLE GUYS, HOW IS HE REAL

Lwj sees it and HAS TO LOOK AWAY

I CAN’T EVEN BLAME HIM BC IF WWX SMILED AT ME LIKE THAT (WITH HIS CUTE LITTLE BEAUTY MARK IN FULL VIEW!!) I WOULD’VE DIED.

Wwx runs after his brother and slings a playful arm around his shoulders and walks away without a second glance to lwj

Lwj stares soulfully at him, def noticing that wwx didn’t spare him a second look (poor bb lwj)

After a moment of Soulful Staring, his lips part as he lowers his gaze to the ground and decisively turns and walks off

INTERNALLY HE’S LIKE OFC WWX WOULDN’T WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH ME SINCE I’M ALL STOIC AND REPRESSED BUT THAT’S FINE, IDC, I DIDN’T WANT TO HANG OUT WITH HIM ANYWAY

WWX: lwj, we should set off a lantern and make a wish together since we’ve been thru so much together now

WWXX: habits change!! Besides, i made this lantern specially for you~! *shows drawing of magic cave bunny on the lantern*

Lwj looks at the lantern and, just, his face, ahhh, LWJ’S ENTIRE FACE GOES SOFT AND WE SEE HIM SMILE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE SERIES

AND IT ONLY TOOK 7 EPISODES!!

LWJ reacts to the giggles by immediately grabbing his sword which startles wwx into stumbling back into the group behind him and the mood is effectively ruined

But just for a little bit!!

Then ~THEIR SONG~ starts playing in the background AND THEY SEND OFF THEIR LANTERN TOGETHER, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT GENERALLY ONLY ROMANTICALLY INVOLVED COUPLES DO 

as is shown by how everyone’s trying to get jyl and jzx (aka our token heteros) to send off a lantern together

The pair of them, need i remind you, are currently betrothed (even tho that dumb peacock doesn’t deserve her)

so yeah, that’s totally not gay at all

WWX makes his wish: “I wish to always stand with justice and live without regrets”

THIS IS IT, THIS IS THE MOMENT. 

THIS IS WHEN LWJ FALLS IN LOVE, I SWEAR

LWJ is watching wwx as he’s making that wish (more of an oath, really), and as soon as he hears those words, his eyes widen the way they do when someone gets hit with a life-altering realization. He’s completely thunderstruck 

IT’S NOT SUBTLE GUYS

YOU CAN PRACTICALLY SEE CUPID’S ARROW STICKING OUT OF HIS CHEST (OR WHATEVER ANCIENT FANTASY CHINA EQUIVALENT THERE IS)

THAT’S IT. HE’S A GONER. THERE’S NO ONE ELSE FOR HIM NOW. NO ONE BUT WWX.

For real tho, after this moment, we really don’t see lwj be angry towards wwx like he has been. Annoyed and exasperated at him, sure, but never angry in a petty mean way like before.

The next wangxian moment isn’t nearly as intense but it happens shortly after the lantern scene

Wwx goes to beat the shit out of jzx for saying he doesn’t want to marry jyl (because jzx is a moron and definitely deserves a beat down for this insult)

Wwx and jzx are surrounded by a group of loud, flailing people

And lwj just dives right into that throng of people to get to wwx (contrast this to a scene in a later episode where he actively avoids going anywhere near a much calmer, collected group of people bc ew people)

Lwj: *grabs at wwx* stop, wei ying

Wwx: DON’T STOP ME, LAN ZHAN, IM GONNA KILL THIS GUY DEAD IS2G

Next wangxian scene takes place the following morning

Lwj is walking along minding his own business and sees wwx kneeling as punishment for the fight before

He approaches him and calls out to him.

THIS IS IMPORTANT

This is the first time we see him willingly initiate interaction with wwx. Every other time, wwx was the one to approach him first and start to pester him for attention.

BUT LOL JOKE’S ON HIM. THE FIRST TIME HE DARES TO APPROACH WWX FIRST AND HE IMMEDIATELY REGRETS IT

‘Oh hey lan zhan’ wwx responds to LWJ. ‘look at all these little ants i found on the ground!!’

‘OMG WWX YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE KNEELING TO REFLECT ON YOUR MISDEEDS NOT TO PLAY WITH ANTS. SO UNTEACHABLE’ *walks off in a huff*

Wwx is left pouting and saying ‘but the ants are so cute.’

I’M SORRY WHAT??

WHAT DID YOU SAY WWX?? ANTS ARE CUTE??

As they leave, wwx starts to whisper at lwj “lan zhan, lan zhan, about that Plot Device…”

But gets tugged away by his fam, HOWEVER he manages to hear lxc telling lwj to be careful in that foreboding Important Plot Things Are Afoot sort of way

And wwx makes the effort to go back to talk to lwj but jc grabs him and yanks him out by the arm

Jc: are you crazy?? That guy hates you!! He must be happy you’re leaving

Wwx: LIES AND SLANDER, everyone here LOVES me

Idk about everyone, but lwj definitely loves him and jc knows nothing

now it’s THE RETURN OF WINGMAN LXC

The lan bros are watching the yunmeng sibs leave

Lxc: gosh, it’s gonna be quiet here without him, huh? (HIM, HE SAYS, NOT ‘THEM,’ HIM! BC HE TOTALLY KNOWS WHO LWJ IS ACTUALLY WATCHING)

Lwj: *looks down to the floor and refuses to answer*

Lxc: soooo…r u gonna tell him about your Super Important Mission?

Lwj: no. *walks away*

This is literally what wwx said. Like, that was the deciding factor for not taking the bunny home. 

Lan zhan might get lonely. HOW SWEET IS HE. WWX, THE SWEETEST BOY, WHO’S SO IN LOVE AND DOESN’T EVEN KNOW IT YET

Then as he’s bonding with the bunny he gets the epiphany that OMG LWJ IS GOING ON THAT SUPER IMPORTANT MISSION ALONE, WITHOUT HIM

And that’s the end of that episode. 

but we got to see the EXACT MOMENT LWJ falls in love for real. And it’s BEAUTIFUL. Not to mention the we were gifted the accidentally-falling-on-top-of-each-other trope. 

and we got bunnies! did i mention the bunnies and wwx being adorable together? because that happened.

Do not be afraid of self-insert; everything you create is self-insert

I wanted to write all creators out there a supportive post about self-insert. This was inspired by an ask which I received some time ago. I got asked if the female lead in FUZZY comic was a self-insert. My reply was that no, but you can’t create anything outside of yourself. Everything you create has your fingerprint on or in it.

There’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with creating characters, stories and worlds from your interests, from your perspective! EVERYTHING is self-insert! Whether you do it intentionally or not, it is self-insert. Sometimes it is a big self-insert creation, sometimes it has only hints of you in it. Nevertheless, you are always present in anything you create; your wishes, fears, experiences, interests, likes, dislikes, personality traits, family life, studies etc. are present.

So, to show just how much self-insert there is in my creations, I made you a small list of both FUZZY and Demon Sanctuary and their characters. This is not a complete list and more will “inserted” as stories progress. Here is what is self-inserted from me to my characters and stories;

FUZZY

- Monster x Human relationship because yes monsters and yes monster romances

Female lead Irene (in the pic) - Irene is a seer working with divination. I am an oracle working with divination and earning partly my living with it - I have worked in business and marketing like Irene - I love blond female leads and am blond myself - Respects all life - Can work with multiple divination tools, but gets visions and messages without them too - Lives alone

A or R - Japanese-Scottish, as my soul is always at ease in Japan and in Scotland - Inspired by Axel (KH) and Reno (FFVII), both my fave characters - A punk, because punk aesthetic and music = yay! - Uses rifles and bras knuckles for fighting. Loid - Professional antagonist, as I like antagonists and anti-heros the best - His name Loid is an acronym from Billy Idol, who is extremely important to me - 80′s aesthetic and minimalist interiors, my favorites too - Likes leather jackets; I have too many of them - Has hideous taste in outfits; I usually look the best in “OMG what is this shit!”-outfits - Bi-sexual, as I’m not straight either - His got same piercings as I do on his left ear - Prefers to be left alone and to deal with others as little as possible - hard to befriend with, harder to earn his loyalty; but if you do, he’s got your back - Would he fall in love, he’d be loyal to death - Disrespect him, and he ditches you immediately - Approaches things indirectly - Hates hassle, nonsense and messiness - Lives in a pent house in a metropolis, something I dream about - Magical being, who uses anything physical his body provides for spells, as I find human bodies extremely beautiful (both men and women, trans included!) - Sex is not a taboo for him - Haunted by his past; perhaps more traumatized than he realizes... - Likes sleeping and sleeps a lot - Needs time alone; introvert

- As Im a Finn, all monsters and demons are based on Finnish mythology and folklore (excluding Buzzling). All have Finnish names. - Hiisi speaks in Finnish Sign Language as I love sign language and learn words easily

Please, let’s talk about medieval heresies...! - Named and designed after the Finnish God of Squirrels and Hunting to honor my ancestors’ religion - Reads people and atmosphere like open book, though doesn’t let it show - Mohawks are one of my fave hair styles. - Wears cardigan which is similar to a cardigan my friend used to have - Cares for Eva but places his well-being first; something I had needed to learn (still learning) myself and what I want others to learn, too. Especially in relationships. You matter the most.

Eva - Named after Eve who, by current the Bible version, was tempted by Lucifer; a thing Luciferianists see as a positive thing. Also a concept which interests me greatly. - Is mistaken for something sweet and innocent, who needs protection against he harsh world. Couldn’t be far from the truth.  - Doesn’t see eye to eye with her father. Keeps many things hidden from him. - Values her freedom.

“Tell me about your crush/ lover” my boy is such a soft bean omg. He tries to avoid conflict and is really sweet while I’m a tiny ball of anger and fury which is also funny because he’s 6’2 and I’m 5’4. Also my girl is really sweet, she loves to post on tumblr and draw all these wacky critters. She doesn’t know what a cookie is for the life of her, but she does know everything about blue diamond and pearl. And even though I’m not technically dating my gal, I love talking with her
