I'm not the best with words but @lavaflowe made a great point that I also wanted to build on. When white people make Sun Wukong or any asian character buff, I give them a hard side eye. Its this attitude that the only way they can be masculine or badass is to be buff. To be masculine by a very western standard. Like they can't be badass or worthy of desire or admiration without looking like Rambo or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I've seen this in every fandom that had asian characters with white fans. If the character was designated as a twink they'd be made a bottom or pathetic. If the character was badass any perceived femininity would be stripped from them.
Sun Wukong is short, he is small. And he is badass because of that. he is not buff. Making him so you're saying he is inadequate as himself. What message do you think that sends to asian fans!? What it says about what you think of our cultures!?

Another thing about the criticism of Westernization (or its lack) in Aşk-ı Memnu:
It is also interesting that the oud-playing Firdevs Hanım and her daughters have both Muslim and Christian (Greek) servants and iirc no slaves at their house. Adnan Bey’s seemingly more Westernized family has only Muslim servants besides the French governess, and some of those Muslim “servants” are slaves, one being an actual eunuch. So which family is more Westernized? I am not sure?
I am pointing this out because I am reading another slightly older Turkish novel right now and it points to a character having Greek and Armenian maids at his house instead of slaves as being “Westernized”.
The portrayal of non-Muslims and the West in Aşk-ı Memnu is so interesting. Few Turkish novels would have such a varied and ambiguous stance on this.

A lot of people here in Türkiye got recommended a Podcast channel's video about OnlyFans on YouTube..
I was surprised OF made it's relevancy all the way here but it shows the West's problems are everyone else's problems now. I can see why China wants to censor and separate their internet from the rest of us.

Boring, not classy
И если кто-то ассоциирует подобную сдержанность цветовой гаммы с греческой красотой, архитектурой и скульптурой - можете посмотреть видео why is everything so ugly: the curse of modernism Mina Le на ютубе. Очень интересно, и всячески содержательней моего пересказа.
Просто хочется, чтобы люди перестали подгонять себя под определенную картинку. Базировать не себя на образе, а образ на себе. И тогда не будет на столько грустно.

I Can Show You the World...(of Orientalism)
Everyone loves Disney movies, but does anyone notice their exuding of cultural appropriation? Unfortunately, the company's roots in racism extend into the modern era. Let's explore the well-known, 1992 Disney's Aladdin through colonial interpretations of the Achaemenid Persian Empire. The film's stereotyping of Persian culture runs more rampant than Aladdin after stealing dates from marketplace vendors.
Tumblr media
Aladdin's western producers make their biases against the Middle East known immediately in the film's opening song, Arabian Nights:
"Where they cut off your ear / If they don't like your face/ It's barbaric, but hey, it's home"
European colonizers' tendency to label cultures different from their own as savage and unsophisticated derives from western need to justify exerting control over non-western cultures. Consequently, the Achaemenid Persian Empire's military skills and political administrations were defined by the west as forms of inhumane brutality and domineering, while Europeans labeled their own terrorizing and forceful conversion of non-western cultures as necessary to achieve a metaphorical "greater good". In actuality, the Persians used their skills and administrations to increase trade throughout their empire for the true "greater good" of their people.

Despite all characters in the film being arguably Persian, Aladdin and Jasmine, identified as the protagonists of the film, possess European features and "white" accents, while Jafar, identified as the antagonist of the film, possesses features and an accent common among individuals who lived in the Achaemenid Persian Empire. European colonizers associated "good" with western and "bad" with non-western. Consequently, individuals living in the Achaemenid Persian Empire were labeled as threats and ostracized from the west's definitions of civilized. In actuality, the Persians were a diverse culture, and many of the individuals living in their empire belonged to conquered territories that didn't prioritize violence or cruelty, and were largely allowed to keep independence under Persian rule.

Aladdin takes place in Agrabah, a fictional city representing western perceptions of the Middle East. Both the city itself and the people within it are heavily stereotyped. Depicted as an exotic fantasy of technicolor and greed, where women are objectified bellydancers and men are either poor merchants or sly thieves, Agrabah reeks of European idealism, highlighting colonizers' beliefs in the "mysteries" and "dangers" of foreign world powers, such as the Achaemenid Persian Empire. Consequently, Persians were viewed as enemies of Europeans, despite Europeans making assumptions of non-western cultures' inferiorities and shortcomings. In actuality, the Achaemenid Persian Empire cared little for European affairs, instead expanding into regions of modern-day Africa and Asia at the height of the empire's power under ruler Darius the Great.

In recent years, Disney has attempted to correct the film's orientalist overtones through producing a live-action remake; however, the original story of Aladdin is inherently stereotyped to fit colonialist, European views of the "exotic" East, meaning the company should leave adaptations of Aladdin in the past and focus on producing new films that won't be tainted by their racist counterparts.
Misconstrued interpretations of the ancient Achaemenid Persian Empire continue to exist due to modern, western biases towards non-western cultures, passed down from legacies of colonial ignorance. Bottom line? Western societies need to stop viewing themselves as magical genies destined to "save" non-western societies through preachings of racism and white supremacy.

Just want to put it out there that, while I'm definitely in favor of dragging Shinzo Abe for his nationalist and right-wing policies and his human rights violations, I'm not going to allow any anti-Japanese racism to go unchallenged on my page.
If this looks like an opportunity for you to bag on the Japanese at large, or any other Asian community, see yourself out before I throw you out.

i don't think people really understand what's happening in gaza. with each passing day that sees more and more palestinians dead, it's becoming easier and easier for those in the west to perceive them as nothing more than a statistic. they might engage w the occasional palestine post, sure, but it's just as easy to scroll right past that moments later w no real outrage for the genocide retained.
it's vital to stay reminded that palestinians who are with us today won't be with us tomorrow. it's happening every second of every minute of every hour, and it's relentless. somewhere in gaza a little girl is losing her mother, a little boy is watching his siblings bleed to death, elderly people are infirm with starvation and illness, palestinian women and girls are being sexually assaulted and kept in cages, fathers are leaving tents to find food for their families and not coming back. this is all happening right now, and it's a direct result of the west's complacency. it's a direct result of their not seeing arabs as people worth saving.
it might be hard to compute as a westerner, but this is real. don't let your privilege blind you to your humanity.

In Gaza, journalists are passing out from exhaustion and famine. Despite the ICJ ruling, the US and Australia are intentionally defunding UNWRA based on baseless claims by Israel that members of the aid group are Hamas-sympathizers. Netanyahu, of course, has ignored the ICJ ruling. Israel has banned insulin pens from arriving in Gaza, a particularly cruel and inhumane crime to add to their laundry list of offences. Nothing has changed, and things are getting worse.
It is not that hard to not buy things. To not watch things. Perhaps it is inconvenient, and makes you go out of your way, and costs a little more to buy alternatives. But if you were to attend a funeral a day for every child that has died in Gaza so far, it would take you over 27 years. When the worst that will happen to you is that you don't watch a TV show featuring a zionist, you don't buy a specific brand that donates to and supports zionism, how could that possibly compare to the plight of Palestinians who must amputate limbs without anesthesia?
Once again, this is the BDS list of brands to boycott.
