Booth had died onstage dozens of times in Richard III, Hamlet, and Shakespeare's other great tragedies, but tonight he was not playacting. He wanted to go down fighting, not hang like a petty thief. "I have too great a soul to die like a criminal," he wrote in his diary a few nights before. "Oh may he, may he spare me that and let me die bravely." For Booth, this was his final and greatest performance, not just for the small audience of soldiers at the improvised theatre of Garrett's farm, but also for history.
He had already perpetrated the most flamboyant public murder in American history. Indeed, Booth had not only committed murder, he had performed it, fully staged before a packed house. At Ford's Theatre, Booth broke the fourth wall between artist and audience by creating a new, dark art -- performance assassination.

An FBI memo dated November 29, 1968 described a letter that the L.A FBI office intended to mail to the Black Panther Party office. The letter. was made to appear as if it had come from the Us Organization, describing fictitious plans by Us to ambush BPP. The FBI memo stated that "It is hoped this counterintelligence measure will result in an 'Us' and BPP vendetta." —At a Black Student Union meeting at UCLA's Campbell Hall on January 17, 1969, Bunchy and John, another BPP member, were heard making derogatory comments about Karenga, the founder of Organization Us. Other versions mention a heated argument between Organization Us members and Panther Elaine Brown. An altercation ensued during which Carter and Huggins were shot to death. BPP members originally insisted that the event was a planned assassination, claiming that there was a prior agreement that no guns would be brought to the meeting, that BPP members were not armed, and that Organization Us members were. Organization Us members maintained the meeting was a spontaneous event. Former BPP deputy minister of defense Geronimo Pratt, Carter’s head of security at the time, later stated that rather than a conspiracy, the UCLA incident was a spontaneous shootout. The person who allegedly shot Carter and Huggins, Claude Hubert, was never found. During the Church Committee hearings in 1975, evidence came to light that under the COINTELPRO actions, FBI agents had deliberately fanned flames of division and enmity between the BPP and Org US. Death threats and humiliating cartoons created by the FBI were sent to each group, made to look as if they originated with the other group, with the explicit intention of inciting deadly violence Following the UCLA incident, brothers George and Larry Stiner and Donald Hawkins turned themselves in to the police, who had issued warrants for their arrests. They were convicted for conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of second-degree murder, based on testimony given by BPP members. The Stiner brothers both received life sentences and Hawkins served time in California’s Youth Authority Detention.

Paul-Jacques-Aimé Baudry (1828-1886) "Charlotte Corday after the Assassination of Marat" (1861) Oil on canvas Located in the Musée d'Arts de Nantes, Nantes, France Charlotte Corday (1768-1793) was a figure of the French Revolution; she was in 1793 executed by guillotine for the assassination of Jacobin leader Jean-Paul Marat, who played a part in the more radical course the Revolution took through his role as a politician and journalist. In 1847, writer Alphonse de Lamartine gave Corday the posthumous nickname l'ange de l'assassinat (the Angel of Assassination).

I see posts on here about politically assassinating US politicians that pass fascist laws. Now don't get me wrong, I do love the IDEA of murdering evil people in power. But I can't help but wonder if that would escalate things in a direction we don't want to go.
Do we want every politician who passes pro trans legislation, or even virtue signals pro trans sentiments, to have attempts made on their lives? Do we want the government detaining leftist activists en masse for questioning? 41% of republicans own guns. An additional 15% live in a household with guns. Do we really want a fascist-antifa shootout in the streets? Do we really want another civil war? I'm all for killing fascists, but if we lose that war, they get to control the most powerful entity in human history.
The politician class in America is considered safe from everything, including legal action. Disrupting that would be like lighting a powder keg.

“Rich Hated By Assassin,” Border Cities Star. February 16, 1933. Page 1.   ---- Would-Be Killer of Mr. Roosevelt Tells His Story ---- Always Oppressed ---- Pain in Stomach Intensifies Zangara's Hatred For Rulers and Powerful ---- By United Press MIAMI, Fla., Feb. 16. Guiseppe Zangara, the bricklayer who shot at the president-elect, has. according to police, told this story of his crime:
HATES RICH AND POWERFUL "I HAVE hated presidents and kings since I was a boy. I have always hated the rich and powerful.
"I have a sore stomach, too, and that has made me hate.
"When I read in the Miami newspapers that Roosevelt was coming to Miami, I bought with $8, a gun with which to kill him.
"I got to the scene early, but the crowd was too big for me to get near the platform.
"I meant to shoot him while he was talking, but the crowd was in the way and I am short man. I have always hated the rich and powerful, i hoped that I would have better luck this time than I did ten years ago In Italy when I bought a pistol to kill King Emmanuel. The same thing blocked me in Italy as blocked me here. There was too big a crowd.
"I guess I tried to kill Roosevelt because I have been troubled by a stomach operation.
ALWAYS OPPRESSED "I would not shoot a working man or a policeman. It is the rich and powerful I hate. I am poor. I have always been poor. My people have been oppressed. As a child I had to work hard in the fields, and when I was 16, I had to go to war.
“I hated all my officers. I determined that some day I would do my share of wiping out every official and every rich man I could find.
"Life has been very bad for me.
"When I was a little boy In school I began to hate very violently my richer school mates who had money to spend and who had more privileges than I.
"I am 33 years old, and was born in Calabria, Italy.
HATRED GREW "As I grew older, this hatred for the rich became more intense and 10 years ago it reached a climax when I purchased a gun and determined to kill the King of Italy. As I told you before, this plan did not work.
"I came to Miami from New York City, but I have also lived In Hackensack, N. J.
"I thought it would do my stomach good to come here, but it seemed to be getting worse instead of better. The pain seemed to make my extreme hatred for the rich and for everybody in authority all the more intense."
The Italian was stripped of all his clothes as he reached the jail and his clothing thoroughly searched.
Rogue's gallery pictures were taken of him clad only in his underwear. Later even that bit of clothing was taken from him.
When News Syndicate photographers attempted to take pictures as he stood nude in his cell, Zangara demanded a shirt which he held in front of him. [Seen in the picture]
BOUGHT PISTOL "After I read about Mr. Roosevelt coming here,  I went to a store on North Miami avenue, and bought a pistol I paid $8 for the gun.
“I tried to get to the park early so as to be as close as possible to the president-elect, but some people were there before me. I sat there in the park and my stomach kept aching more than ever. Maybe the excitement was responsible. I kept thinking if the crowd does not get too thick around me, I will not fail like I did 10 years ago."
"I meant to shoot Mr. Roosevelt while he was talking, but the people in front of me were standing, and I am short. I did not have a chance.
ONE BIG CHANCE "My one big chance came when some people got tired of standing and sat down.
"I stood on a bench and pointed the gun at Mr. Roosevelt. But the people around were pressing against the bench and making it wobbly. The gun started to shake, but I pulled the trigger anyhow I don't know how many times.
"I do not know whether I shot Mr. Roosevelt, but I want to make it clear I do not hate Mr. Roosevelt, personally. I hate all presidents no matter from what country they come, and I hate all officials and everybody who is rich.”

Is Mayor Cermak the Big Bopper of that day in the FDR life story?
You know, there are theories that Anton Cermak was the actual target of that assassination attempt in Miami in 1933. It's never been proven, but it's been suggested that Cermak, who was the Mayor of Chicago, was targeted by the Chicago Outfit -- the branch of the mafia that Al Capone ran before he was sent to prison.
It's much more likely that Giuseppe Zangara was really trying to kill Franklin D. Roosevelt (he said that Roosevelt was the target of his anger against capitalists) and he very nearly did that day. If a woman nearby hadn't grabbed his arm and deflected his aim, Zangara probably would have shot FDR, who was the President-elect at the time, and just 17 days away from being inaugurated in the midst of the Great Depression. FDR was very lucky that day. Cermak wasn't and died a few weeks later. And Zangara was tried and convicted in a lightning-fast trial where he pled guilty to Cermak's murder and attempted murder for the four other people wounded by his bullets and was promptly executed via Florida's electric chair less than three weeks after FDR was inaugurated. The entire process including the assassination attempt, FDR's inauguration, Cermak's death, Zangara's trial, conviction, and execution all happened in a matter of 33 days.

Just want to put it out there that, while I'm definitely in favor of dragging Shinzo Abe for his nationalist and right-wing policies and his human rights violations, I'm not going to allow any anti-Japanese racism to go unchallenged on my page.
If this looks like an opportunity for you to bag on the Japanese at large, or any other Asian community, see yourself out before I throw you out.

Just days after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Lee Harvey Oswald was apprehended for the crime. As Oswald was being moved from the Dallas police station, Jack Ruby (Jacob Leon Rubenstein) shot him on live television. Howard Brodie, having worked for two decades as a newspaper illustrator, called an army buddy who was a CBS executive to offer his services in covering a trial that forbade filming. He became one of the first courtroom illustrators to work for television. This drawing of the empty courtroom depicts the names and positions of the defendant, defense attorneys, judge, district attorney, assistant district attorneys, bailiff, court reporter, jury, and even the spittoon.

On the subject of incidents in Japan, please keep former PM of Japan “Shinzo Abe” 🇯🇵 in your prayers and thoughts today. He suffered a recent assassination attempt that thankfully resulted in the culprit being caught and arrested. He is under intensive care at the moment.
Considering whom formulated the assassination is under investigation and kept private for the mean time.
From what my friends and sources tell me Shinzo was a huge advocate for Japanese-American-Israeli relations and restoring a healthy relationship between the three nations for the sake of healing from the past and moving forward learning from WWII for the better.
Please keep him in good thoughts and prayers. ❤️🙏

The Legacy Of Alexei Navalny -- A Man Of Courage
Few political dissidents in Russia have escaped Vladimir Putin’s evil wrath.  Alexei Navalny could have sought refuge outside of Russia after he recovered from an attempted assassination by poisoning in 2020, but instead he chose to return to Russia and keep fighting the evil regime, even knowing that he was putting his life on the line and would likely eventually be targeted again.  And he was,…
