Primarily paintings, but also sculptures, weaponry, fashion, and anything else artistic Most artworks range from the Renaissance period to the Impressionist movement but contemporary artworks are included My icon is "Portrait of a Venetian Lady" by Eugene de Blaas, the heading is "Starry Night Over the Rhone" by Vincent van Gogh, and the URL is a reference to an Oscar Wilde quote Any history or analysis of an artwork included with an original posting likely comes from the institute the work is located in, or from a verifiable online source. If you have any questions about an artwork feel free to ask, I'm happy to help :)
"The words of our martyrs, scrawled on the walls of Al Shifa Hospital on each of the 14 days that the medical complex was under Zionist siege. In photographing the remains of the hospital, reporters and residents have found messages from doctors, staff, and patients alike, as well as Palestinians who lost their homes and were sheltering within the hospital’s walls.
May every martyr’s words be a torch on the path to liberation. May we never forgive or forget."
[Diana] Still Life with a collection of curiosities, n/d, oil on copperplate, 34.5x34.5 cm
The State Hermitage Museum, Inv. GE-2445
This still life reflects the antiquarian interests of van der Borcht, who organized sales of just the kinds of collections of curiosities seen here. Van der Borcht had visited Italy, where he studied painting and collected carved gems and medals. In the foreground we see a carved shell, The Reapers (now in the Hermitage collection), a French work of the first half of the 16th century, symbolizing the month of August and forming part of a series of The Seasons. In the centre is a marble statue of Diana, while the marble to the right is probably Jupiter. Amongst the coins we can identify a denarius of Otto, a 2nd-century BC tetradrachma from Macedonia, a drachma or tetradrachma with a depiction of Athena, a dedication denarius of Faustin I with the sickle moon and seven stars, a denarius of Hadrian and a Hesse-Thuringian bracteate of the 12th century.
