Some more Ask Peter Tork selections...
"Hello Peter, OK, it's hard to actually type anything here, because it is hard to believe this could be you. Remember me, the crazy lady in the 4th row at the concert in NJ, in the 80's holding a big sign that read, ‘I LOVE PETER.’ Of course you couldn't have noticed with that huge crowd, but I do want to say; thanks for the FUN! My question to you now is, about today's young people, and their strong dependence on their parents. I've seen other people my age (54) going through the same thing, and wonder if our peace, rock & roll, drugs, drinking, and party days, have contributed to their actions and behaviors now. My 25 year old son still lives home; he has things like, a TV, cell phone, guitar, drums, and some other smaller instruments. He over the years, had thoughts of being a rock star, had and has, drug, and depression issues. And like many other young men, loves beer, concerts, parties, clothing, girls, and sports; all just the same. There is no real motivation for much else, hence the still living at home. At least after the 60's/70's hullabaloos, our generation eventually went to work, moved out, and learned to be independent. Unless maybe today, things (even music) are just so expensive, it seems un-comprehensible. Are we as parents giving up, giving material items, and giving in, not wanting to be the same as our own parents? Are we way too cool to be more aggressive in how we talk to them? Are we still living our own "Hippie" care free life through them? Also, have you yourself ever actually witnessed what I'm talking about? Oh yeah, one more thing, is it easier for some parents to be able to kick them out 'For their own good,' than other parents? Yours Truly, Shell New Jersey"
"Dear Shell, I remember you well. You were awfully cute there in the 4th row. But on to important matters. First of all, I'm pretty sure there is no blanket statement about your question that would cover the situation. For instance, of course some parents find it easier to kick out their kids than others. That's just natural. But as to the general average of kids today staying more with their parents than in days of yore, well, I partly blame those who let the economy go to hell in a hand basket...or perhaps actively took it there is a better description. It's tougher now than it used to be to find a job, and there is less of a spirit that finding one will give one a real chance to come up in the world. It's therefore understandable that 25-year-olds and some even well older would be discouraged, and have very little incentive to go forth and make their way. Still, I am pretty sure that wanting to work rather than lay about is a preference in human nature, as long as no major roadblocks stand in the way. As to whether it was our hippie lifestyle that led us to treat our kids in ways that made them lazy, well, I wouldn't know for sure. But I do know that every generation is formed by the previous generation's reactions to their parents' generation, etc., etc., since time immemorial. We did the best we could with what we had, and if we don't like what we see, I'm not sure we can do much for the next generation anymore. I believe that my kids appreciate that I am still working on my own life, and that gives them encouragement not to give up, whatever else they may think of me. I don't have much to say about the way they live their lives. Of course, they aren't encamped in my basement, either. Meanwhile, I counsel patience and love, of course. Best of luck, Peter" - Ask Peter Tork, July 2010
"Dear Peter, My name is Mary and I’m in tenth grade. I’ve been struggling recently because all of my friends and teachers think that I should have a 'direction' to my life. They tell me that I need to have my future planned out right now. What college am I going to? What career field will I try to get into? I don’t know how to answer any of their questions. Should I know what I want to do with my life even though I’m only fifteen? Thank you, Mary C."
"Dear Mary, 'Should'? I don’t know from should anymore. I once heard someone say 'Don’t "should" on yourself.' I eventually worked it out to where the word 'should' requires the phrase 'in order to.' You 'should' turn left here 'in order to' get to the grocery store. Like that. So, the question becomes, 'in order to'… what? Check out the letter and answer beforehand. Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? No? Well, perhaps a little investigation is in order. When you were little, what did you dream of becoming? Airline pilot? Doctor, nurse, veterinarian or horse trainer? Wonder Woman? Rock star? Newspaper reporter? Or did you imagine that a life of marriage and kids plus a bit of a trade as, say, a hair stylist was heaven on earth? Go back to your early daydreams and see whether any of them still holds a charge. Be careful here: if you don’t know instantly what your dreams were, then it’s possible that you were discouraged from holding on to them. If that’s true, then that discouragement will get in the way of your trying to access those dreams now. Be extremely gentle with yourself, even to the point of sickeningly coddling yourself (for a little while anyway, heheheh). If your childhood dream comes to the fore, you will have all you need to decide whether and where to go to college, or whatever else you may need. One note: it’s wonderful to decide to, say, become a musician, but if famous musician” is your goal, you may be in for more trouble than you want. If you pursue your dream for what it gives you and let it take you where it will, you will have a pretty cool life almost no matter what. I’m really sure about this. Get back to me if it’s not working out. Best of luck, Peter" - Ask Peter Tork, July 2010

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Felix Aster Durant, a 25 year old son of Benzaiten.           He is the owner and manager of Galaxy Games.
FC NAME/GROUP:  Zhu Zanjin CHARACTER NAME:  Felix Aster Durant AGE/DATE OF BIRTH:  25 years.  Born August 8 1998. PLACE OF BIRTH:  Shanghai, China OCCUPATION:  Owner and Manager of Galaxy Games Bowling Alley and Arcade HEIGHT:  5'10"/177 cm WEIGHT: 150 pounds/68 kg DEFINING FEATURES:  Very prominent dimples when smiling, contagious laugh like a hyena cackle, friendship bracelet of braided red threads on his right wrist with a small Felix the Cat charm, usually carrying a black Felix the Cat backpack (also known as his “bag of tricks”) filled with miscellaneous items, usually snacking or sipping on something, smells like vanilla sugar cookies and cinnamon, always wears red, always carries in his pocket an ancient wadōkaichin coin called “The Gavel”.
PERSONALITY:   Upon first meeting Felix, one gets nigh-immediate chaotic good “happy cat” vibes given how much he smiles and his very animated and chatty demeanor.  He is nearly always up for a good time, loves to party, play games, and is definitely an adrenaline junkie.  Because of his luck, his risk for serious injury or consequences is notably low, so it is not uncommon for him to agree to the occasional street race or parkour contest.  He is also not at all afraid to speak his mind.  Somehow, Felix manages to know just the right choice that will lead to an optimal outcome so it’s not uncommon for people to seek his advice, and occasionally a little bit of luck when they’re feeling insecure or nervous about a situation.  Though a hugely playful flirt, it is really just all in good fun as this demi very rarely follows through.  This is partially due to the fact that he’s unsure if the person actually has feelings for him or if that’s his lucky magic working on them.  Sometimes, that adorable smile hides a very deep sadness because of this.  Speaking of magic, he enjoys performing silly magic tricks with coins, scarves, and cards for the amusement of others and is really good at contact juggling.  He loves cats and cats love him; oddly enough, snakes also love him which is likely something inherited from his birth mother.  With one hell of a sweet tooth, it isn’t uncommon to see him snacking on something or chewing bubble gum.  Felix is an avid Star Wars fan and plays guitar very well.  He is also an avid gamer and has a modest following on Twitch with a friendly and inclusive community.  He very much radiates “Peter Pan Syndrome” energy as a boy who never grew up, and with those adorable dimples of his, it just adds to his charm even more.
HISTORY:  For most of his life, the identity of his birth parents remained a mystery for Felix.  Left abandoned at a hospital in Shanghai, even the staff was shocked at the sudden appearance of the newborn on their doorstep, though he was found immediately and melted the hearts of everyone around him with those adorable and perfect dimples.  Very quickly, he was adopted by Janice and David Durant–an elementary school music teacher and a prosecutor from Detroit–who brought him back to the States.  The obvious good luck of this kid started on the plane flight when a pair of businessmen traveling first class gave up their seats to the new parents and their infant so they could travel comfortably.  Next, David Durant started to win case after case after case and became best friends with the district attorney and several judges.  Before Felix was even two years old, his adoptive father was at the top of his game and was promoted to assistant DA.  With stable and “comfortable” income, Janice became a stay-at-home mom and the Durants began to foster at-risk kids who found love, support, and safety in their household.  Each foster kid that came to the Durant household found optimal placement quickly.  Felix still keeps in touch with most of them.
On his fourteenth birthday, his father suggested buying a lottery ticket and asked Felix the numbers he should choose.  Felix gave him the numbers, but told him to wait a week before playing them.  When he did, and the Durants won hundreds of millions of dollars, it was sealed for them that Felix was quite possibly the luckiest kid in the world.  He was at the top of his class, a baseball star, swim team co-captain, loved by his teachers and administrators, and had many friends.  When it came to making tough decisions, he just consulted an old coin he referred to as “The Gavel” to make the choice for him, trusting the “energy of the universe” to steer him in the right direction.  Despite the numerous “sticky” situations he got himself into–including several falls and car wrecks–he and those with him often emerged unscathed.  He graduated salutatorian from high school, was accepted to the University of Michigan on a full scholarship–which he turned down, insisting the money should go to someone who needs it…which ended up being his boyfriend Dylan.  So lucky!  To choose a major, he just put everything he was interested in on a roulette wheel and let the ball decide for him.  Business administration?  Fair enough!
By junior year, however, Felix had noticed sparks flying between Dylan and another student at a party and, rather than stand in the way of true love, they ended their four-year relationship on good terms.  It was for the best and the two remained friends.  However, feeling a little directionless, he considered consulting a psychic on his next move.  Coincidentally, Caiden–Dylan’s new boyfriend–mentioned his aunt was in town with her wife who was totally a legit fortune teller named Laney.  The instant Laney met Felix, she knew he was something special, something more than just some friend of her nephew.  After spending nearly an entire afternoon and evening with Felix, she discovered just who his birth mother was and mentioned a bridge in South Korea that was waiting for him when he was ready.  Though he had no reason to think Laney would steer him wrong, it did seem like a bit much.  Despite knowing he was adopted from a young age, he hadn’t honestly thought about his heritage since the Durants had always been so supportive and loving; as far as he was concerned, they were his real parents.  Yet even after graduating magna cum laude, the thought of Benzaiten as his birth mother tickled at the back of his mind.
For the next few years, he learned Korean and Japanese and used his bachelors in business to help Dylan and his new husband, Caiden, start what would quickly become a very popular karaoke bar and VR arcade in Chicago.  Being an avid gamer, he took up becoming a variety streamer on Twitch under the moniker MagicBagOfTwix and developed a modest following with a friendly and inclusive community, even won a few tournaments.  However, with 2024, the Year of the Dragon, fast approaching, he still felt as though something was missing.  Through the encouragement of his friends as well as the support of his parents, he set off to South Korea as Laney had suggested years ago and, just as she had said, a bridge waited for him.  Was he nervous?  Yes.  Oh, but wasn’t it so lucky of him to just fit right in?  And there was just the right space downtown for an arcade and bowling alley!  Thus, he opened Galaxy Games bowling alley and arcade and proceeded to literally play games for a living!
PANTHEON:  Japanese CHILD OF:  Benzaiten POWERS:
Naturally Lucky–Literally born lucky, most situations naturally work out in Felix’s favor.  In altercations and accidents, he manages to avoid serious physical harm.  If a situation seems dire, he stumbles across alternate paths or items that will help in a resolution or escape.
Luck Bestowal–If someone is feeling nervous about an upcoming event or activity or if they are just down on their luck, Felix will grant them a little bit of his luck which only lasts for a few hours, usually by imbuing an object with his energy such as a coin, granting them an increased possibility of the best possible outcome.
STRENGTHS:
Innovative–He frequently comes up with new games to play and new gimmicks to implement.
Considerate–Always down for brightening someone’s day.
Honest–Felix does not sugarcoat his opinions.
WEAKNESSES:
Reckless–Being extremely lucky has its downside since he believes he can do anything.  This may get him into trouble (which he usually gets out of easily).
Paranoid–He is a great friend, but he isn’t sure if people actually like him for him or if it’s just because he’s lucky.
Restless–He cannot stand to be idle and has a touch of insomnia.

Chapter 6: Headstart Hero
Peter knows exactly what it feels like to be standing in the crowd, anticipating the start of a show. The strange connection you feel with all these people that you’ve never met, the laughter, the chatter, the excitement coursing through your veins as you wait for the lights to finally dim.  Standing backstage holds the same kind of elation; yet it’s completely different. He too, is waiting for the lights to dim. Every time the lights flicker, every time the crowd makes a little more noise, he feels his heart skip a beat. It can’t be healthy to be so tense. His ribcage feels tight and he swallows. Peter tries to shift his guitar strap a little in the hopes of gaining some breathing space. Not that it helps of course, ‘cause it’s not the strap that restrains him.
Next to him, MJ and Ned are fighting equal battles with themselves. Playing for the New Year’s Eve show had been challenging enough, but somehow, this feels different. Like they’re gonna have to prove their worth. This is their chance to get their name out. To connect with potential fans. It’s overwhelming. Very, very much so.
It shouldn’t be long now, please, please don’t keep him waiting any longer. He-
The lights dim at last, and Peter is hit with the screams emerging from the crowd. Astonished, he knows he should jump to action right now. It’s almost as if someone else takes over his body when a broad smile plasters itself on his face and he runs into the stage lights.  “Welcome!” MJ laughs into her microphone. She looks absolutely stunning. Her aquamarine dress swirls around her loosely as she walks. Venus, for sure. “We are the inner concentric, the outer radial lineament, the spider-like volcano-tectonic structures from Venus. We have come to Earth to give you a hint of the whirling desire that is found on our planet. We are… The Arachnoids!”
Ned kicks off with a fast-paced rhythm, the deep vibrations of the bass drum tingling on Peter’s skin. Everything about this makes him feel so utterly hyped up. He lets his pick rain down on the strings, earlier nerves forgotten. His fingers glide over the notes so easily. The stage lights are blinding, but he knows how big the arena is. He knows exactly how many people are out there- watching him, cheering for him.
He walks forward, dancing to MJ’s sweet harmony, and slides to his knees to get a break from the lights for a quick second. The group of young adults pressed against the front barrier raise their hands to him and scream. Peter’s eyes widen when he sees one of the girls is wearing a bright-pink tee with ‘The Arachnoids’ written on it with a black marker. He grins widely at her and winks. The girl instantly tears up and brings her hands together in a heart-shaped symbol. “I love you, Peter!” She mouths excitedly.
Peter can’t help the stunned chuckle that rises from his chest and he stands up again, walking over to MJ while quickly waving to the girl in the crowd once.  Then, he turns around and leans against MJ, his head dropping backwards onto her shoulder. MJ plays along. She moves her hand up to ruffle through Peter’s hair as she keeps on singing through the high notes of the chorus. “And now we’re hoooo-hoooooome!”  Peter jumps away from her and bounces on the balls of his feet and moves his head along to the music. He runs towards the other side of the stage, giving the crowd a good show as he keeps playing with his instrument raised high in the air.
Somehow, his glance is pulled towards the small backstage area he can see from there. Tony’s seated on top of the transport cases again, watching the show intently. Peter can’t help feeling surprised at the fact that Tony’s here watching them play.
Peter swallows when he realizes that his solo is coming up, the exact one Tony had given him the unsolicited advice about earlier today. He presses his lips together and makes the split-second decision to play it Tony’s way. He may not have practiced it yet, but he knows he can do it. He wants to. Why he wants to please Tony so badly is a mystery to him, but he doesn’t have time to think about it. That’s how he takes a few steps closer towards the edge of the stage and takes a deep breath. His fingers find their usual pattern, his pick hitting each snare perfectly- D-string, he reminds himself. Play the F on the D-string.
And oh, Tony had been right. Peter flies through the solo so much easier than ever before. Endorphins release from his brain and make him feel nice and warm all over. He turns his head to look at Tony again. The man’s eyes are wide as he watches Peter play all the way through the solo with ease, and Peter wonders if the man had expected him to actually listen. Peter most certainly didn’t.
As soon as the solo ends, he breaks his gaze with Tony’s and resumes playing chorus’ rhythm, walking over to Ned who’s happily smashing on his drums. The new kit suits him perfectly. Peter has to suppress the urge to look at Tony again and he scoffs quietly to himself. He’s starting to get weirdly attached to the other guitarist. Asshole or not, there’s… something about the man and it’s inherently annoying to Peter. So, that’s why he refuses to look over even once for the rest of the show, and by the end of the set, he’s nearly forgotten that it even happened.
Nearly.
-
“You guys were fantastic out there- Woah!” Harley laughs and pulls Peter into a tight hug. Peter chuckles, patting the other boy’s back in return. It’s a little awkward, with his guitar between them, but the intention is what matters most. “Thanks, dude!” Peter sighs happily and pulls back. He only then realizes how much his shirt is sticking onto his skin. “Ugh, I need a change of clothes.” Harley chuckles at that. “One month into this tour and you won’t even notice anymore,” he jokes. “We’ll all walk around smelling like shit- part of the fun, I say!” Peter laughs and shakes his head at that. Harley, in return, looks very pleased with himself.
“Hey, I gotta go switch the stage set-up- eh, tell MJ I’ll talk to her later?” Harley asks, leaning in a little as if he doesn’t want anyone else to hear it. MJ’s standing a couple of feet away from them, talking to Liz, one of the other roadies working on this tour. “Uhh, sure!” Peter answers, noticing the small blush that spreads on Harley’s cheekbones. The blonde grins and glances over at MJ once more before taking a step back. He finger guns at Peter and winks. “You’re a hero!”
Peter snorts, it’s adorable how clearly the boy is trying to get MJ’s attention. Not that he actually has to try very hard. MJ and Harley have been messaging each other every single day since the New Year’s Eve show. Sometimes they even facetime. Peter can tell that MJ is slowly starting to open up to the idea of Harley possibly liking her, but he’ll keep his mouth shut about it. She has to figure it out herself. In her own time.
“Hero,” Tony scoffs from behind him. Peter has to actively keep himself from rolling his eyes at the remark and he turns around. “That’d be me,” he deadpans. Tony lets out a surprised laugh at that and Peter feels a stupid happy feeling emerging in his chest. No, he reminds himself. Don’t let him get to you. He doesn’t want to befriend the man so quickly. He might be less of a prick today, but that doesn’t mean he’s suddenly a kind presence to be around. He’s very much not that. “Space hero… Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?” “I guess.” Peter eyes the man, unsure what he wants from him. Tony licks his lips once and tilts his head.
“So,” Tony starts slowly. “Seems my advice wasn’t that bad after all, mmh?” “I never said it was bad.” “But you didn’t like it.” “I didn’t ask for help, Tony.” Peter narrows his eyes a little, trying to read the man’s face. Tony’s deep brown eyes hold something so… Unexplainable. It’s no fragility, neither is it playful. It’s some weird mixture of every possible emotion out there. It makes it feel both very intense and deep, and closed-off at the same time. There’s so much to see that it’s impossible to know what’s truly going on. Peter sighs. “Unsolicited, but it worked. Yes. Thank you.”
“Ah,” Tony exclaims proudly and Peter instantly wishes he hadn’t said it. It’s irritating and he knows that whatever words Tony will speak next, it’s gonna be something cocky again. “When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Mmh, never thought it was true. When do we start your classes?” Peter huffs and looks away for a second.  “I’m not taking classes from you. I’m sure you got better things to do than waste your time on beginners like us.” Peter instantly regrets his words when he sees a flash of rejection on Tony’s face. The man straightens his shoulders, eyebrows furrowing together. Peter knows that whatever he said, it triggered the man’s jerkiness full force. “Fine, I’m just trying to be nice. But you’re right, Peter. I got better things to do,” Tony spits out and he stalks off.  “Fuck,” Peter mutters to himself. He messed up. Nice job, Parker. Keep going like this and you’ll find your ass on a plane back to New York first thing in the morning. He wishes he knew what had set Tony off so much, but at the same time, he can feel anger bubbling up inside him. It’s so utterly frustrating that Tony can’t handle anything without stomping his feet and throwing a tantrum. It’s not Peter’s problem. It’s not his issue to solve. “Go fuck yourself,” he mumbles quietly. Feeling annoyed with the fact that the whole, hazy feeling of post-concert bliss has shattered.
“Hey Pete, we killed it out there!” Ned interrupts his thoughts as the drummer nudges his side. “And those fangirls in the front, can you fucking believe it? We got fans!” Ned’s enthusiasm instantly lightens Peter’s mood a little. Tension leaves his body and he grins widely at Ned. “We’re gonna be huge, Leeds. One day, I’m telling ya!” “Let’s toast to that, boys!” MJ chimes in and hands both of them a small bottle of water. Peter eagerly takes it from her hands and skews the cap off.
“You,” he says as he brings the bottle to his mouth, “-are a lifesaver.” “I know,” she smirks and chugs some water down as well. “Has anyone seen Harley? He said he’d see me after our set,” she then asks, voice wavering slightly. She cranes her neck to try and spot him. “He just hopped by, told me to tell you he’d see you later. Not sure what he was up to, but running ‘round as always,” Peter tells her. MJ seems pleased with the information that Harley told Peter to make sure she wouldn’t feel left behind. “Poor dude,” Ned mumbles. “I’m sure he doesn’t get paid even half of what he deserves.” “He loves the job, though,” MJ smiles. She tilts her head at Peter. “I saw you talking to Tony, by the way! He seemed nice today?”
Peter scoffs. “He sorta was, in his own way. But one wrong word and he turned all bitchy again.” “Ugh, there’s always some issue with him, isn’t there? Do you still wanna watch their set after that?” “Yes,” Peter answers. “They’re a good band. Who knows when we’ll be kicked off the tour, we should enjoy it while it lasts.” He tries to bring it jokingly but knows it sounds petty as fuck. Dammit, Tony sure brings out the worst in him.  “Yeah,” MJ smiles. “I vote we stay.” Peter simply nods and takes another big sip from the water and wipes the small stains of sweat from his forehead using his sleeve. He still feels low-key guilty about the whole encounter with Tony. The least he can do is watch the show and give them their support. He’ll have to try to ignore the nagging thoughts clawing at his mind. He can do that, he hopes.

(PART ONE) Hello! Congratulations on your milestone! Can I request a :fire: for Harry Potter? I’m a straight female, My zodiac sign is Scorpio, I’m also a Slytherin. My personality type is Estp-t. I have big goals for my future such as being an actress. I also play the electric guitar and I also really enjoy skateboarding. My favorite music artists are lil peep, Ghostemane, and suicideboys. My friends say that I am very adventurous and I’m emotionally strong.
(PART TWO) they also say that I’m not afraid to take any risks. I can be a bit stubborn at times, I have a hard time trusting people. My aesthetic is a dark grunge. I am an ambivert, I’m not afraid to dream big too. I am also very passionate about witchcraft. I don’t like too much physical contact. I am very protective of my personal space unless I am with someone I’m very close with. Thank you! <3
Harry Potter:
I ship you with Regulus Black!
now, at first this may not seem like the best idea, but i’ve put a lot of thought into this and can say that this is a good idea
from what i gather about scorpios (astrology is not my strong suit) you are the stereotypical slytherin - bold, ambitious, maybe a little secretive... you definitely have the potential to swing either way on the villain/hero scale. you are sharp and intelligent, and more stubborn than anything else, but none of these qualities are necessarily bad.
truth be told, a lot of these traits are sirius’ personality traits. you’re very similar to him, and therefore, very different from regulus.
where you are bold, regulus is cautious; where you are ready to jump into battle, regulus is patient; where you are defiant, regulus is flexible and goes under the radar; where you are prone to taking risks, regulus is calculated.... and the list goes on.
on the surface, the two of you look like you would never get along - and i’m usually not a fan of opposites attract - but i have some key points that i want to get through to help explain where i’m going with this.
(1) regulus has lived with sirius for his entire life, and since you are so similar to sirius in personality, he understands you really well. of course, he probably doesn’t like you right away, but he knows how you operate and either the teachers catch onto this and make you partners or some of regulus’ friends realize this and task him with getting you to go help them out.
(2) both of you could become either the villain or hero of the story. regulus is a bit of a tragic character, really, because with the push in the right direction, he could have made a lot of change a lot sooner than he did, and maybe the most cruel thing was the time stolen from him. he’s extremely vulnerable to influence, just due to his personality, and so had he been given someone who believed so adamantly in dumbledore and the other side of the war, regulus really could have been the hero - no need for harry potter to grow up, because regulus could have taken center stage and defeated voldemort himself, with the help of the order of the phoenix. from what i know about scorpio, slytherin, estps, you could have a very similar story. because you have all the determination and ambition to go one way, but you are also transformative and can turn with the right influence, and be adamantly the opposite. both you and regulus are perfect for redemption arcs or bastardisation arcs, depending on what influences you have.
and, since you are the more bold and steadfast, of the two, you would be a driving force in regulus’ turn to the good side - you would supply him with all of the confidence and practicality, and the two of you could have honestly stopped voldemort together, that’s in no way a joke.
(3) you are incredibly forgiving, and this is because you have faced the darkness within yourself, so you are not afraid of it when you it in others. furthermore, you are incredibly perceptive and intuitive, so even though you are slow to trust, you know deep down when you can trust someone and perhaps hold them at bay for a while until you are 100%. but when you’ve seen them, and this usually happens early on, you know. you’re just praying your not wrong. (but girl, trust yourself. you are among the most intuitive slytherins out there, and you are rarely wrong).
(4) you both think big! this is usually rare for an estp, but it makes sense since you are a slytherin. you both have goals and will stop at nothing to achieve them. when you and regulus know what you want, you get it, no matter the cost, and that’s really iconic of you.
something i love about you and regulus is that you will bring dreams to him. regulus has never really had the luxury of foreseeing an ideal future for himself, but you are not afraid to dream, and you can bring dreams to him. it’s definitely one of the reasons why he first fell for you - you talk about the future like it’s something meant to be seized, and you talk about dreams like they’re meant to become reality.
i also think that your stubborn side is good for regulus - he can often be gripped with indecision, but you will take the reins and soldier forth with the idea you know think to be the best. you are bold and direct and original, all of which regulus thinks he is not. you are the person that shows him he is, indeed, all of those things - he’s standing up to the dark lord, after all.
(okay, sidebar, but now i really want to read a series with you and regulus. you are fellow pureblood slytherins who believed in supremacist ideologies because you were raised that way, but in your 6th year at hogwarts, the two of you are forced to become death eaters, and slowly from there, you realize what the death eaters truly were - murderers and thieves and terrible, terrible people who are willing to do terrible, terrible things for no real end. and the two of you decide to leave together. you find the first horcrux and succeed in destroying it, and then the two of you start to fight against voldemort alone, until you eventually join the order of the phoenix and start to take voldemort down. in this version, there is no prophecy and harry potter isn’t the boy who lived because you and regulus take down voldemort yourselves. sirius, james, and remus both join your sides (peter can still be a traitor, or not, it’s up to you. same with snape - i feel like without the harry storyline he wouldn’t swap sides.) and we get the marauders plus you two destroying the horcruxes. can you imagine how great that story would be?)
okay i have rambled too long, let me give you some random headcanons.
as i have said before, regulus listens to music religiously so i 100% see the two of you listening to music while on the run, debating about who’s band is better.
and that’s another thing! you guys have debates like no other - it’s really a wonder the two of you care so deeply about each other, because to the untrained eye, you both look like you annoy the hell out of each other, and it’s very funny when people realize you are such good friends.
(oh yeah, enemies to friends to lovers. although now i get just friends vibes, but i’ve put so much effort into this match up.... friends or lovers. your choice)
i definitely think that the two of you have stargazed throughout your travels - regulus probably told you all about his family one night, when you’re looking at the stars, and you comfort him.
oh! since you want to be an actress, headcanon that the two of you have to go undercover as muggles for a while in your attempts to defeat voldemort, and you end up really falling in love with muggle movies, and after the two of you have a marathon one night (maybe you get a night off or something, idk), you talk about how you want to be an actress. and then, regulus prompts you to dream for him - what would this actress life be like, if when it happens?
and you spin an entire story for him, a dream - a hopeful one - without the war and the suffering, without magic and death eaters, where the two of you are happy - you as an actress, and regulus as a screenwriter, only crafting the most complex of characters for you to play.
and he’s pleasantly shocked that he’s in this dream of yours, and you confidently tell him that no matter where you go, he’ll always be there, at your side. “you can’t get rid of me now, you realize that, don’t you? you’re stuck with me, black.”
and he doesn’t say anything in that moment, but he thinks that maybe that’s not such a bad dream, after all.
okay, i popped off with this one, but now i really want this regulus story to be a THING,,,,,,,,,,, ugh. can you imagine how great it would be? okay, just imagine if it were a mini series and it had the greatest soundtrack ever, and the palate was dark greens and blacks,,,,,, i got carried away but can you imagine.

The Great Peter Infodump of March 2020
yo @brackets-and-woolly-hats @mijaco-geo and @mike-nesmith-for-mayor I have recently been informed that yall would really like me to infodump about Peter and I want to thank yall because I think if I held it in any longer I would explode
Also thanks to the coolcherrycream articles and various interviews that I learnt all these from in the 5-ish months I’ve been thinking about the monkees for
But before I start going hnngggg Peter I would like to warn you that despite my tone this is going to contain some heavy stuff. We’re talking brief mentions of blood, and suicide and death so be careful about that
This is gonna get hella long so *cracks knuckles* let’s begin
Childhood
let’s start from the very beginning: a very good place to start
Friday, 13th February one bb was born and he would always say that Friday the 13th was a lucky day for years onwards
He was born with a lot of diversity in his parentage
He’s Irish and German-Jewish on his mother’s side and Norwegian on his dad’s side
Speaking of Jewishness (is that a word???) I rememeber an article saying that he used to randomly say Hebrew words in interviews and I think he taught Mike how to say something too?? I dont know
Peter was a very friendly boy even when he was just a toddler cus he would drag any new friend he had home
Anyway, he was born in Washington DC
Once on Christmas he went missing and his mum and grams panicked and looked all over the house for him
Turns out he was just waiting at lampost in the snow because he wanted to make sure that Santa would bring him a present
Speaking of Grams, when he was 3 (i think im doing this from memory) he was at a post office with his mother when she came in.
He got uber excited and shouted “THAT’S MY GRAMS. HER NAME IS CAIT!”
And so everyone turned to look at her and he squealed
He would also often ride on the top part double deck buses and whenever the bus slowed down, he would wave to nearby people and say “HI MY NAME’S PETER WHAT’S YOUR?” to which those people who wave back and sometimes answer him. I mean, wouldn’t you?
Also he started to play with pianos when he was 3 and also he liked dancing so that’s cute
One of his first memories was of being at the hospital where his brother Nick (who they called Nicky and that’s what I’m going to call him) was born
Soon after Nicky was born they moved to Germany Yeet. He was 4 and the time and Nicky was like 18 months or smth
Germany
Right so I dont know why people dont talk about this part of his childhood because like,,,it’s interesting??
In Germany they had two maids
They had to put sugar in every food so that Peter and Nicky would actually eat the strange German food
He became very fluent in German and would help his mother with translations
He was also fluent in French for some reason
Someone made a statue of his 4 year old head and it became a famous minor art piece that featured in calendars
It probably now sits in his house because I saw in in the background of the short documentary that his son, Ivan Ivanoli made about him which you sould check btw
Anyway, when Peter was 5 he made his first official best friend Ule who was two years older than him
Once when he was playing hide and seek with Nicky he ran at full force at a closed glass door that he thought was open, shattering it, and getting a shard into his arm. Reasonably he screamed
Apparently, he was hurt a major artery and would have bled to death if not for someone being in the house to call a doctor
Once he was out and about wandering around, as you would do if you were Peter when he was stopped by some official looking guy from going back into his own house.
It’s important to note that Peter looked very much like a German boy and would ONLY talk in German outside. God knows why he did this.  Reasonably, the dude thought he was lying and he had to call for his mum
Anyway, in Germany school starts when you’re five but his birthday was in the middle of the school year so his parents sent him in early which set him up for some outcasted child syndrome later
And then the moved back to America yeet
AMERICA (LAND OF CAPITALISM)
So he moved back into America but it didn’t stop there. No. They had to move around like a 100 different times and as someone who went to a total of 4 different schools (so far oh no) that sets you up with outcasted child syndrome. What also sets you up with outcasted child syndrome is if you’re an undiagnosed neurodivergent which Peter seemed to think he was when he was in his 50s (either ADHD or autism) so uhh keep that in mind
So he was in school and as mentioned earlier he was a year younger than his peers so that’s fun
He was very very clever. Often he would finish his work first and his (4th grade) teacher would make do some reading or creative writing. She encouraged him to do creative writing because she saw some talent in there
Not only was he acadmically gifted, but he was also musically gifted. Playing not only the piano (which he got lessons for) but also the guitar, the banjo, the bass, and the french horn which he got an award for when he was in highschool playing in a band made out of college students for some reason
Speaking of awards, he was once given an award for maths
This giftedness would later set him up for Gifted Child Burnout he had in college
Also he changed schools like a total of 13 times so that’s fun
He went to a private school but apparentl, according to his parents, he hated it (but he remembered liking it???)
Also, he made a lot of jokes in class
Remember Nicky? Yeah, Nicky would often write songs for him to sing and stuff (Nicky would later write songs for Peter’s solo album and a bunch of other stuff what a great brother we stan)
The family had some kind of barn once where he would do puppet shows his siblings
Anyway, school life was all fine and dandy until 5th grade hit and he changed schools and everyone lost interest in him because he was one year younger
Also his dad was apparently very disconnected with him. Needless to say, Peter felt like his father didn’t like him
Once when he was 9, he told his father that he noticed that when the clouds were around at night, it would be warmer during the day to which his father shouted at him saying that “he has no proof of that” and that he shouldn’t say anything without proof
This of course led him to feel like no one wanted to listen to what he wanted to say
poor baby
I think his father would have been the reason why Peter would later say in an interview that he hated “loud abusiveness” the most
He would also later say that a combination of his dad and feeling like he was weird and different would lead him to his drinking problem
So umm we dont stan his dad ok
Once when he was 13 he picked up a loaded shotgun and put it against his head. But he decided that he didn’t want to do it at the last second.
Overall, life from 5th grade till highschool was terrible for him
He didn’t have any friends in his school
So when he moved to a new school in Conneticut where he was surrounded with people of the same age, he was really happy all the way until college where he flunked out twice
Hippie Time (Honestly this part is just me talking about him and Stephen Stills because Steter Stirk changed me)
And so Peter became a hippie in Greenwich Village
In the Village, he became a sort of entertainer. Not just singing and playing, he was also a comedian.
And then he kept hearing about this dude who looked like him from other people.
This dude turned out to be Stephen who was also hearing the same kind of talk for about the same amount of time
Pete and Stephen VIBED im not kidding they started to play with each other and also Stephen’s room mate who was also there
Also it turns out that they liked to talk about the same things so that’s neat
Peter went to Venuzuela apparently and when he came back the Monkee thing happened yeet
Once when Stephen was waiting to move into his new house Peter was all like “hey dude live with me”
For a while they also lived in the same house when he was Monkee and if that doesn’t fuel any ship fics I dont know what will
Im serious the ship is here and its real I saw fics and fanart
Dont ask about Stirk
They played with the colour tv and would “pick apart each other’s brains” umm
Also Peter’s favourite band was buffalo springfield and we stan a friend who would say your band was their favourite band
And I think this is where my knowledge starts to fade because I haven’t really heard any cool facts from here on afterwards
Last Final Cool Facts
He was a teacher for quite a while and taught about Maths, basketball (despite not liking any sport except swimming) and Easter Philosophy,,,yes easter philosphy the man was into that kinda stuff
Also he was a big reader. Always having a smoll book in his pocket that he would read while on set with the Monkees. But he was particularly a non fic kinda guy
He would write poetry on the back of scripts
In the 2000s he said that his sister thought he might have ADD
Also autism but when asked about it he’d be all P E R H A P S
which is very unhelpful Peter pls give us a straight answer
I mean he cant give us straight answers because he was the gayest monkee (he fricked a dude once but he didn’t like it)
Hey look I ended on a gay note yeet. Thanks for reading this mess

I listened to ‘youth’ by Shawn Mendes and Khalid while doing this.
Tumblr media
*not edited*
“Welcome class,” the teacher greeted you all brightly, “I’m glad you could make it after school today, what with all the rain and all I assumed only two or three of you would have shown up today. Anyways, you know what to do. Best get to it.” She clapped her hands, before turning her heel and moving to write on the board, writing ‘Integrated Arts Club’ in a cursive calligraphy font. That was her contribution to the club. Calligraphy.
You sighed. This was a way for you to escape the harsh reality of the outside world. Half the students in this club were members of the community, no scratch that, the majority of students were gay. There was maybe only one or two straight people apart of this club.
You took out your paints, paintbrushes, pencils, and then got your canvas from inside the supply closet where you had left it yesterday. It was your newest project, a painting of a woman in white, with bright red lips and a black dress that blended into the black background of your canvas. You were inspired by a woman you had seen one night on the streets of Queens.
Taking a seat by yourself- taking up the whole table with your paints and brushes spread everywhere- you began painting. Everything was already finished, you just needed the details. You heard the door open and close, only choosing to look up when you finished an eyelash stroke.
“Yeah, this is where I go after school. That over there is Mia- the one spray painting the poster paper- and the dude over there with the guitar is Jay. That over there is (y/n), their bigender so I’d just use androgynous pronouns for them. Over there is Ms. Burningham, our club sponsor, and the dude in the corner is Max, he’s a comic book artist. You’d fit right in, Peter.”
The voice belonged to MJ, a close friend of yours. She often helped give you inspiration, letting you paint some of her sketches to life. You heard her walk behind you, leaning down so her hair was in your peripheral vision. You looked up, “Yo, MJ.” You smiled at her, then up at the newbie.
He was short, about an inch or so shorter than you, with brown eyes and hair. He wore a sweater over another shirt, jeans, and ha a camera in his hands. He was trembling, probably nervous.
“Hey, ahh, who’s this?” You asked MJ, who looked at Peter. She leaned back against the table, her palms getting paint on them from the splatters that had fallen off your plate of paint.
“Parker- Peter. Peter Parker. Nice to meet you.”
He went to shake your hand, you lifted yours up to show him you had gotten black and red all over them, “Sorry, dont wanna mess up your hands. That camera looks expensive.”
Peter made a small ‘oh’ noise, looking down to his small Canon camera. “Yeah, it- its almost completely brand new. I sold some of my old stuff to get it. Useless stuff, shirts and books and stuff.”
“Cool, cool. Uh, MJ, could you tell Jay to keep it down over there? Can’t hear my own thoughts over his wanna-be indie music,” you said, completely disregarding the boy in front of you now. It wasn’t that you were rude, you just wanted to get this painting finished hole everything was still wet, otherwise it would make problems later on. MJ rolled her eyes, but nodded. You flashed Peter a smile, before turning to you painting.
After about a minute of silence, you heard a gasp behind you, “Holy shit- that’s really good!” You looked up, seeing Peter next to you with his camera turned on. He blushed, “Sorry! It’s just you looked so calm and pleasing, I snapped a quick photo while you weren’t looking- sorry.”
You half-smiled, standing upright, “Thanks, and it’s okay. This class is freedom of expression. Just not expression, ‘kay? As in, no swearing,” you laughed and pointed to the lady at the front of the class, her hands busy grading the Latin worksheets. Peter nodded, surprise clear across his face, “Oh- sorry.”
“Can I see?”
“What?”
“The pictures, can I see? I mean, they're of me, right?”
“Oh- yeah! Totally!”
Peter pushed a few buttons on his camera, and he scrolled through some of the photos until he found yours. “Here-”
“Wow, i look hot!”
You moved closer to Peter to get a better look, gawking at the aesthetic that was put into one simple photo. You did look good in this photo. “Mind sending me this? Not just this, other stuff, too. I’d love to make a piece from these- oh, if that’s okay?”
“Uhh- yeah! Sure!”
***
You flopped onto the bed, curling up next to a pillow. It was cold from loneliness, making you snuggle closer to it. You looked at your nails- paint ad managed to get wedged between the nail and the skin, and no matter how hard you tried it wouldn’t wash away.
You sighed, ready to turn off the light until your phone went off. You checked it to see there was a message from MJ, asking you if it was okay to give Peter your number. You texted back, ‘Yeah. Totally.’
Three minutes later, your phone went off again and it was Peter.

The next day, you bumped into Peter in the hallway, “Oh, hi Pete. Can I call you that?”
“Hi, (y/n)! Yeah, totally cool!”
“Cool, got the hard drive?”
“Yeah, right here,” Peter patted his jean pockets for a bit before pulling out a black and red hard drive, “It has maybe 20 or 25 pictures here. Their mostly just random pictures of places around Queens, hope that’s okay?” You nod, “Thanks Pete.”
***
That night, you went home and changed Peter’s ID to ‘Pete’. After that, you plugged the hard drive into your laptop, opening the file titled ‘images’ and scrolling through the photos. Most of them were taken at impossible angles, and you wondered how Peter was able to capture photos like them. One was at the top of a building and looking down onto a busy interstate. Another was of the stars, a bit of the background trees getting in the frame. They were beautiful. Another was of MJ, her back towards the camera, a backpack strap in her hand, looking to the left at the sky with a sunset background. You saved that image as ‘Michelle_jERKFACE.jpeg’ on your computer. The photo Peter took of you earlier was amongst them as well.
You went to bed that night with a smile on your face and ideas fresh in your mind, ready for tomorrow's Club Meeting.
***
“Hey (y/n)! Like the pictures i sent?”
“Holy Shii-shhh! Peter! That sentence can go two ways!”
“OH! Sorry...”
“Its fine, and yes I did like them. They were really good! How come you never joined before?”
“Never thought i was good enough.”
“Not good enough?! Peter, those photos are professional level photos. They are wonderful and beautiful and deserve to be in a museum.”
“Oh, wow, thanks...” peter blushed, looking own with a small smile on his face.
***
You looked at the scenery before you, trees brown and crisp from the fall air. Peter sat next to you, his camera ready to snap a picture at any moment. MJ sat opposite Peter, sketchbook in hand and sketching the trees and people. Ned was posing by a fountain as Peter playfully took photos of him. You started sketching Peter into your own book, smiling when you finished and began shading.
MJ looked over at you, “Damn, you’re gay for Peter Parker.”
You looked at MJ with a shocked expression, before looking at the sketch and at Peter, who was now out of ear shot.
“Totally,” you smiled, before both of you went back to your drawings.
***
“Peter,” you looked at him seriously from your spot on his bed, “Ever think about kissing dudes before?”
Peter blushed, “I- ah, um...” His eyes widened, before looking down shamefully, “Y-Yeah… more than a few times...”
You smiled, “Cool, so what? You’re… bi?”
“More pan, I look for personality more than gender.”
“Cool, same. I’m (sexuality).”
“Oh, cool!”
***
“Peter, where are we going?”
“Behind the school. There’s something I need to show you.”
Peter had your hand tight in his grip, pulling you through the almost empty hallways. His voice didn’t stutter, which worried you.
Finally, you made it. Peter pulled out his camera, “Stand in front of that street art Mia did yesterday.” You did just that. Peter moved your arms to move in front of your sweater, telling you to tug at it a bit and look up at the sky. He moved some hair in front of your face to cover your eyes. He knelt down, snapping the photo.
“Cool, now stay there.”
“Do you always get like this for a photo?” You asked as Peter pressed record, moving next to you, “What do you mean?”
“Nothing, um. What are you doing?”
“Its for a project. I’m gonna screenshot part of the video later. Please, this is important.”
You watched Peter as he took control of the situation, taking your (smaller/bigger) hands in is own, intertwining them as he leant up.
“Kiss me.”
You coughed, moving back. Peter moved his arms around you again, “Please?”
“Why?”
“The project- please (y/n).”
You slowly gave in, letting Peter wrap his arms around your waist as you looked down into his eyes, your hands cupping his cheeks softly. He leant up to kiss you softly. Both of you stayed there, afraid and unsure of how to move.
“I’m sorry,” Peter said after a while, moving away. You were quick to react, taking the back of his head and slamming it back onto yours.
“Mph-!”
He was taken aback by the action, soon melting and whimpering into it.
Yep, you were so gay for Peter Parker.

Music AU - part 1
Tumblr media
Au where Tony Stark is a music producer & the owner of Avengers Entertainment, Peter is a multi-instrumentalist British jazz musician and War Machine is a progmetal band. In other words the starker fic in which Peter smirks a lot and Tony remains astonishingly oblivious for a long time.
All characters 18+
(If anyone’s interested, here’s what i was listening to while writing: https://open.spotify.com/user/tdaehi9xumogtle8iljnpahpi/playlist/00rIJxgBEZDRHV5dUh1iMB)
Enjoy :)
Morning
Waking up feeling drained and with a mild headache, Tony Stark half regrets having fallen asleep at all. He prefers an all-nighter to jet-lag anytime, even if he has an important business meeting in the afternoon.
Deciding that more sleep would only make him feel worse, Tony gets up. When, even through the haze of exhaustion, his mind manages to conjure up the image of the coffee shop he saw across the street last night, his worries that jet-lag seriously damaged his cognitive functions ebb away. The promise of almost-immediate caffeine intake and the possibility of avoiding the hotel restaurant – which Tony does most of the times – make it almost easy to drag himself through his morning routine.
As he walks toward the café half an hour later, Tony passes a music shop and sees a handsome young man enter. The sight almost wakes him up properly – something that a cold shower and the crispy winter air couldn’t achieve – but Tony shakes his head and goes for his coffee first. On his way back, however, he can’t resist entering the music shop. The young man’s still there, conversing with the shopkeeper. A regular, it would seem. He wears a suspiciously bespoke-looking deep navy-blue coat. Tony is more intrigued by the minute.
The shopkeeper turns towards him, but Tony waves a hand to signal that he’s good. The conversation picks up and Tony pays careful attention to every world he can hear. Meanwhile he registers the truly remarkable variety of vinyl, music sheets, instruments and accessories the shop offers. When Tony feels sure he’s heard enough to join the conversation, he picks up a random vinyl from the display table and walks over to the counter.
Both men look at him. Tony puts the vinyl down.
“I’ll take this, please.” Then he turns towards Peter. “And, excuse me, but I couldn’t help overhearing…” Tony thinks he captures the exact moment when his perfect charming smile starts working on Peter. It’s subtle, surprise flashing across his face and an almost imperceptible squint of his eyes, but Tony’s been around for a long time and had both reason and opportunity to learn to read people. “Do you propose, did I get it right? to put hammers? in a piano? It sounds remarkable, would you mind elaborating?”
Tony noticed him glance at the shopkeeper when he praised him, and for a second, they both looked amused, but Peter’s answering smile can’t be described anything but carefully polite.
“Sure, I wouldn’t mind, Mr Stark,” he says eventually, inclining his head slightly.
Tony’s surprise at being recognised by the young man must show on his face, because the shopkeeper chuckles.
“We know our music around here, Mr Stark, especially Peter. It’s an honour to have you here, ” he extends his hand and Tony shakes it. The man’s name is Yinsen, which Tony finds vaguely familiar but cannot place at the moment. He’s too excited to find out who the intriguing young man – Peter – is.
Tony remotely notices how good it feels to touch him while they shake hands, but he’s mainly struggling to get back on top the situation, because Peter Parker is definitely smirking now and Tony for the love of God can’t figure why. He comes to his senses when he hears Mr Yinsen speak.
“Will you be needing my assistance with anything else, Mr Stark?”
“No, let me just… how much?”
He pays for the vinyl – it’s one of his own productions, he notices, annoyed – and thanks the man. He’s not confident that his charm has worked exactly the way he intended, so instead of just walking away and expecting Peter to follow him, he actually looks at the man with an enquiring expression.
“After you, Mr Stark,” the young man replies and damn if his voice isn’t honey. “Goodbye, Mr Yinsen. Oh, and I’ll fetch those strings at around 6, if it suits you.”
They exit the shop and Tony inhales deeply. The woody scent of the shop still lingers and as it mixes with the chilly air, Tony gives himself over to the sensation. Then the moment passes, and he realises, they haven’t moved. Peter’s looking at him politely, but his gaze is otherwise unreadable.
“I avoid hotel cafés and restaurants if I can, so I’m open to suggestions,” Tony says.
Peter nods. “I think I know just the place. How do you feel about books, Mr Stark?”
“I’m sensing some serious European vibe,” Tony quips. “Show the way.”
Peter smiles and stars walking.
“So, what is it that you do?” Tony asks as they turn the corner. He can’t help himself, the boy’s idea is the most interesting he’s heard lately, and he needs to find out more about him. About it. Well, really, both if he wants him. To sign a contract, that is.
“I play music,” the young man offers. “I have a band for live gigs, but I mostly write my own music. I also collaborate with other artist.”
“What kind of music?” Tony asks. The boy’s appearance has classical written all over it, but his attitude suggests something unrulier. Something that would explain the cheeky confidence he emanates despite his ivory skinned, wide-eyed British exquisiteness.
“Mainly jazz, but I like experimenting with other things too.”
Jazz. Of course. Tony notices the young man looking at him, waiting for his reaction. So, Peter not only knows his name, but also is familiar with what he does. Sure, jazz isn’t metal, but honestly how could he not be interested?
“Just my luck. I’ll try to keep up though…” Tony smiles. Peter smirks, but doesn’t reply.
After a few steps – his lithe movement really is something to behold – Peter stops and enters a classy looking place. Tony walks in after him and immediately likes the dark panelled room, the deep cherry and blue wallpaper and the stuffed bookshelves. Even though it would never be his first choice, he understands at once why Peter likes it. Tony pushes back the frightening realisation that somehow in barely half an hour, things and places started to feel like this stranger.
The barman greets Peter politely and they take a seat next to the French windows. It feels oddly intimate, not exposed at all, yet Tony still chooses to sit with his back to the street. When their waiter arrives with two menus, Peter turns to him immediately.
“Thank you, would you mind just putting them down, please?”
Tony is speechless. He was mentally preparing to be handed something and wishing with all his might that he could resist flinching and then this, this complete stranger goes out of his way to save him from it. When the waiter walks away, Tony says quietly:
“Thank you.” The ‘How did you know?’ goes unsaid, but Peter seems to read it from his gaze.
“I noticed that Mr Yinsen didn’t hand you the change and since he knows everyone worth knowing better than anyone I know… well I took a guess.”
Tony feels a bit shaken, but Peter’s smile, that is gentle for the first time, reassures him.
“You guessed right,” he says finally. Then to steer the exchange towards safer grounds he adds. “We’ll see how quick our waiter friend is on the uptake.”
Peter hums. “Oh, I wouldn’t worry about that here.”
Even though the twinkle of Peter’s eyes is far too knowing, Tony lets out a relaxed laugh. They choose their drinks in silence and it gives enough time for Tony to go back from anxious to intrigued. Once they’ve placed their orders, he leans closer to Peter and says:
“Now, Mr Parker, tell me for real this time who you are and what you do.”
Peter chuckles. “While I’m flattered, Mr Stark, I really don’t know what else to say.”
It’s infuriating how he appears to be completely honest. It’s reflects the perfect mixture of modesty and confidence that Tony recognises from true and rare professionals. Tony lets out a frustrated groan but before he can say anything rash, their drinks arrive. Tony is grateful for the interruption, for it gives him a few moments to think. Strategy, he needs strategy. He might as well have stumbled upon some young prodigy, the next genius of jazz and if so, he simply can’t let him slip through his fingers.
“I’ll take it that you are a pianist?” Tony prompts.
“Well, I play the piano, the double-bass, the saxophone, the guitar, some percussion, but I prefer to edit my rhythms and noises on a computer.” He says it all so nonchalantly, that Tony needs to make an effort not to gape at him. Still, he’s a moment too late in responding and something both amused, and apologetic appears in Peter’s expression.
“So, when you said earlier that you write your own music, you also meant that you record it all by yourself as well, didn’t you?”
"Most of the time, yes, but sometimes my band helps."
“Do you have a name?” Tony asks unthinkingly and he realises his blunder as soon as he sees irritation flash through Peter’s face.
“Sorry if it’s not showbiz enough, but you already know it, Mr Stark.” He’s tone is mocking, but Tony feels there is an edge to it.
“It’s not a bad name. How come I haven’t heard it before? Young prodigy and all that.”
“Come now, Mr Stark, do you put such great trust in every no name stranger you meet?" The young man seems amused and there is also something very much like satisfaction in the hint of a smirk he wears. Despite his light tone, however, Tony still feels embarrassed. He almost started explaining himself. Almost…
“Only those whom I catch talking about hacking an instrument,” Tony winks at Peter but then turns more serious. “So what’s your story? Someone must have realised your talent early on.”
“Maybe they have, I don't know. In my family, it’s quite usual for children to learn to play an instrument. At first, I had music teachers, but then I've taught myself. Actually, I tried to avoid being discovered. I've spent my whole life surrounded by music and I've learnt early on to tell if someone still enjoys playing or have burnt out on their way to fame. I didn't want to burn out. Still don't."
Tony huffs, shaking his head in both disbelief and fascination. The boy is becoming more of an enigma by the minute. Rarely has Tony encountered such disinterested honesty and he hasn’t even realised that he missed it.
Peter just smiles at him and sips his tea. All of a sudden, Tony finds himself devoid of all disguises. His skin is tingling with some new and rousing sensation. For a few minutes he feels, rather than sees the young man before him and he’s still busy trying to unravel the effect Peter has on him when the young man speaks again.
"So,” Peter begins tentatively. “Would you like to talk some more about my plans for the grand piano?"
Tony nods eagerly. "Yes, please."
Their conversation lasts for over an hour. They discuss Peter's idea and Tony may not have been so excited since War Machine' s debut album. He can't refrain from making suggestions even though they don't work together. He hopes it’s only a matter a time before they do. Tony's engrossed and he's dying to hear Peter play and to see his ideas come to life.
He might even have forgotten his meeting, the one that was actually scheduled for him there, in London, if it wasn’t for Peter suddenly announcing that he has to leave. He stands up swiftly and before Tony can figure out a way to ask him to meet again, he’s already taken his coat. Before leaving though, Peter steps back to their table, places a note under his saucer then stops in front of Tony with hand outstretched.
Tony is breathless as he stands up – they are so close now – and accepts the handshake. They stand like this for a moment longer, eyes locked, excitement, curiosity and something more, something perplexing flicker between them. From a distant corner of his mind Tony hears the faint voice of his rationality tell him to ask Peter when they can meet again, but he seems to have become temporarily speechless. Peter lets go of his hand and walks to the door. Before stepping out, however, he looks back.
“Oh, I almost forgot,” the feigned innocence of his voice is betrayed by his smirk. “I play tonight at 8 on the Steamer. I wouldn’t mind if you came.”
He leaves and doesn’t look back to see the grin that spreads on Tony’s face despite the twirling mess of panic, relief, anticipation, confusion, desire, impatience and self-consciousness inside him.
[Disclaimer: Peter’s idea is not his, nor mine. I was inspired by the amazing duo called Grandbrothers. Check them out, it’s the perfect music for this fic.]
There's a part2 now (11-02-19)

hi, meet my bby and pls plot with me (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
hi guys, it’s me, Carmen, this is the part where I reveal that I used to rp here around 2 months ago with a Tom Holland FC named Jake Brooks who was the biggest smoll bean in the world (here’s a link to his dead blog omg he had so much potential rip), sO YEAH PROBABLY SOME OF YOU ALREADY KNOW ME, HI THERE, I’M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK, I MISSED Y’ALL
Now I present to you my bby Danny with the lovely face of the greatest male singer of our generation aka Brendon Urie (◡‿◡✿), have some facts about him:
He was born and raised in New York, down in the streets of Brooklyn
He’s an only child and he comes from a pretty wealthy family so his relationship with his parents has always been cold and distant, they were always too busy working/making money and he was always being cared by the nanny in turn or his grandparents during the weekends
They were the typical rich parents that didn’t care much about his kid but they always gave him everything he wanted/asked for so yeah he grew up pretty lonely but spoiled too u can say
Since a young age he developed a big love for music probably bc his grandpa used to play him his Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, etc (u know, classic and amazing music) records all the time, like he would teach him about his favorite artists and little Danny was just so amazed by all of it
His grandpa passed away when he was only 15 and this was a thing that rlly affected him and he still misses him to this very day, he always cites him as the reason why he started loving music and one of his biggest inspirations
He started to play guitar at 13 when he got a guitar for Christmas and since then he’s learned to play basically every instrument but his favorite is and will always be the piano
During his middle school/high school days he was your typical trouble boy, causing trouble all over the streets of New York with fellow wealthy spoiled kids who found alcohol a fun thing to try at only 15 LMAO he also was always pissing teachers off at school and stuff (we all know a kid like this, don’t we LOL)
Before starting his senior year of high school he decided to drop out and rejected his parents offer of attending Columbia University after graduating and instead decided to move to L.A to pursue a music career, he was just too confident he’d make it and didn’t want to “waste” any more time at school and since his parents never cared enough they didn’t try to stop him but instead gave him the all commodities so he could move in there
After a few months of living in L.A he met other boys that were his age and had the same dream and bonded with them so they eventually formed a band together that they decided to name “The Lost Boys”
Explanation behind the silly band name: u know the Lost Boys from Peter Pan, well!! They related to that concept, like never wanting to grow up and being all alone without their families in L.A, idk if there’s already a band existing out there with that name if iT DOES PLEASE IGNORE IT LMAO i made it all up at 3am last night
Their genre is indie/alternative (imagine their sound arctic monkeyish like they started being teenagers and really loud but evolved into some type of jazz stuff recently as they grew older and started wearing fancy suits)
Even though they are not like Green Day or Muse famous they got their big break a while back (like those throwback songs you remember from the mid 00s that were such a classic), and they’re pretty well known around those who enjoy alternative/indie music and he’s toured all over the world with them!!
So if your character is a musician or has something to do with the music industry/music please assume the connection that they know each other bc he knows a lot of people in the scene omfg
Concerning his love life, well, since music has always been his biggest priority he’s never had a “real” relationship before like he’s had his girlfriends and stuff (most likely models bc rockstar) but he’s never fallen for someone hard enough to want to settle down and get married u know, the no strings attached relationship type are his fave thing too lmao
Personality wise he’s literally the life of the party!! like you’d never get bored around him, he’s extremely confident because he’s well aware of his talents so he may come off as cocky or vain but he ain’t an asshole LMAO yes he’s a diva that loves the attention but he’s pretty chill and easygoing, he also loves partying and liquor LOL he’s hyper 24/7 tbh
THIS IS WHERE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART COMES: he’s father of Teaegan’s (our lovely Demi Lovato fc) daughter but he has no clue yet LMAO none of them do so here I am to bring that plot alive that will kill me with all the feels (they met in L.A since they’re both musicians and had a fwb relationship), his life is about to change forever and he’d have to try and calm down his wild lifestyle bc of her precious baby Blake
He came here to Crownsville after the latest Lost Boy’s tour ended since he had friends come live here and he heard nice comments about it and he wanted to find a quiet, nice place to stay and find some inspiration for the new album, you can find him around performing jazz sets in bars (he loves jazz, in case that wasn’t clear before or obvious lmao)
He didn’t tell anybody he was coming here tho, knowing his impulsive nature he just decided last minute to move in and here he is now LOL
I think that’s it or at least that’s all I can think about I’M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, and thanks for reading please come plot with me, i love plotting and i love u all (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
ps: please bear with me as I post my first starter and reply to a few, I’m a bit distracted bc of the Coachella livestreams, currently watching Weezer as I wait for my bby Billie Eilish omfg

Thursday Thoughts: Are Movies Condemning Adulthood Too Much?
Recently I saw the latest trailer for Mary Poppins Returns. It looks like it’ll be a joyful film, especially for those of us with fond memories of the original Mary Poppins film. (I said “YES” out loud when the 2-D animated sequence began!)
But something nagged at me while watching the trailer – how familiar the presented story felt, and not in a wholly good way.
There is a category of movie that goes like this: a character of a beloved children’s movie grows up, has children, and forgets the values of childhood. Another character from that movie returns to help re-teach those values and thereby help them become a better parent.
Admittedly I don’t know everything that will happen in Mary Poppins Returns, but in the trailer, Mary Poppins makes it very clear that she is here to take care of the grown-up Jane and Michael Banks more than she’s there for their children, and late in the trailer a character says, ostensibly to Michael, “You’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a child!”
Just last month I saw Christopher Robin, which was about Winnie-the-Pooh re-entering a grown-up Christopher’s life at just the right moment to teach him that having fun and spending time with his family is more important than work. And that movie, when I saw it, put me in mind of Hook, which is about Tinker Bell finding a grown-up-with-children Peter Pan, who has not only forgotten how to have fun but forgotten about Never Land altogether, and teaches him that fun, adventure, and being there for his kids is more important than being a working adult.
These stories may spring from a nostalgic anxiety of the filmmakers. I feel safe to assume that the people who created Hook, Christopher Robin, and Mary Poppins Returns all loved Peter Pan, Winnie-the-Pooh, and Mary Poppins when they were young. These three original Disney films are all about the inherent joys of childhood – Peter Pan is the boy who never grows up, Winnie-the-Pooh and friends similarly exist in a permanent state of youthful imaginary play, and Mary Poppins teaches Mr. Banks the value of devoting time to childish fun (represented by tuppence and kites).
Now, the people who enjoyed these films are adult filmmakers, grown-ups with spouses and children. They have to devote energy to work and making money, energy that they as children could spend entirely on fun. So they project their struggles onto their old favorites. The once-eternal-children Peter, Christopher, and Michael are now adults with children, who need to be reminded to not work so hard and play more.
As much as I’m a fan of childishness (I work at Disney World), and as much as I love telling new stories about old favorite characters (I write fanfiction), this category of movies concerns me somewhat. I worry that these films, if we get too many of them, will end up condemning adulthood too much.
At the end of Hook, after regaining his memories and belief in magic, having an adventure in Never Land, and rescuing his children, Peter throws his work phone out the window, implying that he’s quitting his job.
But.
The guy has two children and a stay-at-home wife. He doesn’t live in Never Land, where imagining food is enough to fill a stomach. He lives in a capitalist world. The movie ends with the characters and audience celebrating how Peter has learned that work isn’t important and that being there for his family is important. But eventually we have to pause the celebration and realize that Peter needs to get a new job and figure out how to incorporate what he’s learned about the values of childhood into his life as a responsible working adult.
While discussing the new Mary Poppins Returns trailer with my sister, she reminisced about some anecdotes from the Mary Poppins books that she hopes will turn up in the movie, such as the one about the old ladies with a shop who make candy and use those candies to help turn winter into spring.
I remember reading about those ladies and thinking that they had an incredibly cool life, and they didn’t have to stay children forever to have it.
Not all work is soul-crushing; adults can do cool, fun things that make the world a better place, things that they just plain couldn’t do when they were kids. Why do Peter, Christopher, and Michael have to end up in awful jobs, when so many other jobs exist? In these movies, where are the adults who save lives in hospitals, or design cutting-edge technologies? Who fight legal battles to end discriminatory policies, or travel the world raising money for victims of natural disasters? Who direct rehearsals in the Magic Kingdom at two in the morning? Who make movies? Who use candy to create spring?
And I firmly believe that people on any career path can find a work-life balance that includes spending time with their children. I have relatives with several different jobs in the medical field – all very important, responsibility-heavy, time-consuming careers. I have never doubted that they loved me or their children, because they also devoted energy to spending time with us and making sure we knew we were loved. You can devote time to your patients and to playing guitar and singing with your nieces and nephews.
“Incorporate childlike fun into your responsible adulthood” is a much better message than an outright “responsible adulthood sucks.” We should be careful not to condemn adulthood too much, lest we forget that it is possible for adulthood to be great.
But there is hope in these grown-up-Disney-character movies.
Christopher Robin works for a luggage company – which is no fun, and keeps him away from his daughter, mainly because he’s spending long hours trying to figure out how to save the company money without laying anyone off.
Unlike Peter Pan (who I had to Google in order to remember he was a corporate lawyer – all I remembered from the film is that his job kept him away from his kids), Christopher Robin doesn’t quit his job. He’s certainly willing to lose his job, by the end of the film, prioritizing finding his missing daughter over a vital business meeting. But after finding his daughter, he as a “eureka moment,” runs right back into the business meeting, and presents a solution to everyone’s problems – if his boss, who owns a ton of companies, gives all his employees paid vacations, then people will have a reason to buy luggage! It’s a solution based on childish logic, yes, but it works.
Christopher does not completely reject the working world. He brings childish fun into the working world, creating circumstances that benefit everyone: his boss makes more money, Christopher and his coworkers keep their jobs, and everyone gets paid vacations.
“Incorporate childlike fun into your responsible adulthood” is also the message of the original Mary Poppins. Mr. Banks does lose his job, but he gets it back the very next day, and we’re left with the implication that he’ll balance his time at work and his time with his kids much better from here on out.
Lots of people – for example, my parents, who are teachers – don’t go for the most lucrative soul-sucking job. Instead, they take on positions that make them enough money to support their children while allowing them to be there at home for their children, and that involve the things that they are passionate about, so they don’t drain them so much that they completely lose their childlike sense of fun.
Admittedly it’s harder to write a movie about those people. Stories need conflict, and “choosing between money and family” is an easy conflict. It’s simple and quick to condemn work and uplift fun, to put down adulthood and raise up childhood. Our fairy tales are full of foolish kings and parents, and wise peasants and children. I could write a whole ‘nother article about “kid wants to pursue music, parent wants them to make money” movies – as though it’s impossible to work hard at a job you think is fun, or to make money doing something you love.
But real life is not this dichotomous. Money and family, hard work and fun, doing something for the joy of it and doing something because it will do good for the world, all of these things are important. A good, healthy life involves a person devoting some amount of energy to all of it.
And there are lots of conflicts in life even when you make the “right” choice of devoting time to family, conflicts that could create great stories. Anyone who’s ever grown up knows that it is anything but simple to pursue your dreams, to learn to live with a life partner, or to create and raise entirely new people into the world. Nobody in my wonderful, loving, hard-working family has ever pretended that any of it was easy. Instead, they’ve shown me that it’s worthwhile.
We can and should tell more stories like this. Think of Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. She works hard to fulfill her dreams, motivated by her love for her family. She takes the long, hard road to success doing something that she loves to do, using the skills that she’s developed as she’s grown up, keeping the people she cares about around her as she does so, and she makes it. That’s a healthy message I can get behind.
Come back every week for a new Thursday Thoughts!

You've said you used to love Jimmy Page very much, I am curious your stories of what makes you in love with Jimmy Page and how you found out Jonsey is your love of your life.
Tumblr media
First all, I really like Jimmy. More on the musical plan, than on the personality plan. Jimmy is brilliant. He considers he’s sloppy, but to me, a guitarist is able to play everything. Fast thing, slow things. And Jimmy pretty well understood this, through his guitar riffs.
Wizard. This word is even more matching Jimmy than “genius” to me.
Tumblr media
His riffs are magic, his solos are like his passion for Aleister Crowley. Jimmy is a passionate, and we can only understand that just listening to him. Just listen to Dazed And Confused to understand, just watch him use his violin bow. Just listen to Whole Lotta Love too, the theremin part, I don’t have any words to describe that… perhaps “sexual” ? And damn, one of his most famous guitars is the Gibson EDS 1275, and that’s not your ordinary guitar here. This is a monster, and Jimmy totally managed to masterize It !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I think “Outrider” and “Coverdale-Page” were quite underrated.
Oh well, he also did very naughty things, and I’m not gonna list them because the groupies stories… erm, this is really dirty. His heroin addiction was, too. It lasted a long time, enough for people to call Led Zeppelin “dinosaurs”. But without Jimmy, no Led Zeppelin. Don’t forget the other members, too !
Also, what I consider like something not very kind is that for “No Quarter Unledded”, they totally skipped Jonesy and I don’t think they forgot his damn phone number, I think it’s more because the fans expected a Led Zeppelin reunion but they didn’t want to have a reunion, and so they toured, just the two of them. But even with that, they did well, this album is one of my faves ever. I Totally recommend It.
Tumblr media
A quote by Jonesy about No Quarter Unledded : “One slightly naughty thing I was thinking as I was watching the MTV thing (giggles nervously) is how many people it took them to replace me, and how few people it’s taken me to replace them”
Fifty-One additional musicians played with Page and Plant on Unledded; John Paul Jones at the time was performing in a trio. The following year, Page and Plant finally performed with Jones again at Led Zeppelins induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
In his acceptance speech, Jonesy said : “Thank you, my friends for finally remembering my phone number.” (and now, that’s quite a meme lmao)
Several reunions has occured, but they were never as good at the time when Dinosaurs roamed the earth (to quote Jonesy even more here :D), and finally, in 2007 we had the O2 Arena show, and that was just like good ol’ times ! I think Jason is almost as great as his renowned father ! (this is only what I think, don’t hate me for this please !), but no one can replace the great John Bonham. Rob’ said that, and I think it’s accurate (once again, that’s what I think !)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That resume why I love Jimmy, even If don’t show It a lot on this blog, and this makes the transition. Now let me explain why Jonesy completely and literally dethroned Jimmy in my small heart that already suffered a lot in 25 years (that’s another story though).
Tumblr media
There isn’t enough words to describe the immense talents of John Paul Jones (even Rob’ is saying It !). John started playing piano at a very young age, then started playing bass. The rest is history !
He can play literraly everything. piano, keyboard, bass, guitar (with more than 4 strings, please !), double bass, clavinet, Recorder, Hammond Organ, Mandolin, Mellotron, electric mandolin, fiddle, pedal steel, lapasteel, lapaphone… List goes on and on…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
John is such a passionate, and I don’t even think this word is strong enough either…. and I’m very passionate about Jonesy ! (No, really ? :D)
We easily can get how passionate Jonesy is, watching to live version of No Quarter, or more recently, to the end of the live version of the Them Crooked Vultures song “Spinning Of Daffodils”.
Each time, Jonesy manage to show us his influences. From classical music to jazz music, each night were differents, and that’s not Jimmy who’s gonna argue with me here :D
Tumblr media
During acoustic sets, Jonesy lulled us with his mandolin (or acoustic guitar, on The Battle Of Evermore, where he also share vocals along with Rob’, rocked a double bass on Bron Yr Aur Stomp.
Tumblr media
John is a versatile musician, and there were examples to illustrate this. And that’s why Jonesy is a excellent musician. But, in that case, why he is so underrated ?
He deserve so much more attention, and that’s why I’m here, on this blog, flooding you with pictures of Jonesy, sometimes videos.
When I started piano , almost 2 years ago, my goal was, and still is to play a bit like Jonesy, ince he’s my main inspiration. I don’t wanna copy him, I just really want to have a feeling just like he has when playing piano. I’m still learning, and everybody states that piano is probably the hardest instrument to learn, and it’s ALMOST right. But did you try to play violin ? I do. I used to play violin before, starting when I was 4, until 11. My Mom’s a violinist. and we both got enraged (literally) when I showed to my Mom how John is good with a fiddle in his hands (Advice : go to see John play the fiddle on YouTube. it’s during a Them Crooked Vultures show). I stopped playing violin after I got frustrated by how hard learning an instrument in a music academy is. To me, learning music should be a pleasure, not a pressure. I hated It. and 3 years later when I reached 14, I started playing the guitar, but with not pressure, just passion. At first I tried to learn it all alone, but we can’t be all John Paul Jones, I certainly wasn’t, plus I have dyspraxia, even more contraining. Now, playing the guitar and piano is a real pleasure for me, even more since I found 2 excellent teachers to learn me the subtlety of each instruments.
To get back on tracks of why I LOVE Jonesy, should I have to remind you that he’s a great arranger too ?
The string arrangment on She’s A Rainbow from The Rolling Stones is a great example. And if I don’t get wrong there, he wasn’t credited at all. That’s quite a shame.
He also played with a great lot of musicians. Different styles of artists and music
Diamanda Galás, Seasick Steve, R.E.M., Jars of Clay, Heart, Ben E. King, Peter Gabriel, Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Cinderella, The Mission, La Fura dels Baus, The Harp Consort, Brian Eno, the Butthole Surfers and Uncle Earl and the list goes on and on…  He’s so versatile !
Tumblr media
He often joins other artists on stage, and if I was one of those artists, even confirmed, I will definitely be petrified if John Paul Jones suddenly appears.
Tumblr media
By the way, other artists seems to really like him, and I can only agree with them. If suddently I was gonna put out an album, and that John Paul Jones wanted to produce It or making arrangments in it on it(thing that will never happen) I’ll say YES already ! :D
Tumblr media
I’ll add that his personality plays a great role too, I mean, I love how humble, quiet and shy John is. And his offbeat sense of humour makes me laugh so hard sometimes. And damn, he’s married since more than 50 years with Maureen, whith whom he had 3 daughters, and god himself knows how many times he became grandpa.
Tumblr media
He seems to be a true sweetheart, even if he probably did bad things when he was in Led Zeppelin, but as far as I know, Jonesy wasn’t thrilled by creating a mess everywhere the band were, and stayed far away from their bollocks.
You want a proof ? There you go !
Jonesy clarified the reliability of this rumour that the Led Zeppelin song “Royal Orleans”, from their album Presence, is about an experience he once had on tour in the United States. The song is about a person who mistakenly takes a drag queen up to his hotel room, who then falls asleep with a joint of marijuana in hand, lighting the room on fire. Here’s the quote.
“The transvestites were actually friends of Richard Cole’s; normal friendly people and we were all at some bar. That I mistook a transvestite for a girl is rubbish; that happened in another country to somebody else… Anyway ‘Stephanie’ ended up in my room and we rolled a joint or two and I fell asleep and set fire to the hotel room, as you do, ha ha, and when I woke up it was full of firemen!”
That’s a very long story there. Hope you enjoyed It. It’s a pleasure to write It (even if my goddamn old shit of a computer is quite overheating, and I had to rewrite It all… 3 times)

Cosmo Pyke is a skater from South London who’s become known around the world for his unique singing, songwriting and guitar music. His unique sound made such a big noise it was heard by millions of people and many of them quickly became his fans. But in conversation you discover his passion for his music is as strong as his love for skateboarding and making art. Skating and playing the guitar gripped him from a young age and he picked up both naturally. But it wasn’t just his talent to string together well written songs and lines on his board that helped him to be the artist he is today. It’s also the excitement he gets from expressing his thoughts and ideas through them that stokes him out. Inspired to push for perfection with his pursuits and through taking his skills in a creative direction, he was further motivated to make art and his music career moved forward. Cosmo has been a No Comply Network member since the start and to see his meteoric rise as a musician has been immense. Four years since he released his impactful first EP and a week before the release of his latest offering, we had a chat about how he learned to skate and play guitar, shredding South Norwood, Peckham Rye and Bromley Skateparks, Ben Glasser and Max Critchlow, seeing US pros at demos, BRIT School, WITH Section, Slam City Skates, Southbank, street skating, making graff, recording his breakout EP ‘Just Cosmo’ with Fraser T Smith in the same studio as Stormzy, behind-the-scenes stories of all of his music videos, playing the last ever show at The Montague Arms with King Krule, filming ideal skate clips in Birmingham and Barcelona, playing live gigs, why his latest single Piper for Janet is one of his most meaningful to date, making tunes in Lockdown, the release timeline of his new tracks and his favourite skaters, spots, skate videos, art and photos and much more.
Tumblr media
Glad to get a hold of you man, it’s been a while!
Yeah, it’s good because I’m releasing my first tune in a while in six days. It’s really good timing, we’re getting to chat now.
So when did you first see skating and think, I want to do that?
I used to skate when I was younger, maybe when I was about 7 years old.
That’s young, where did you get your first skateboard?
I got my first board from Brixton Cycles, which was next to Stockwell Skatepark at the time. I used to skate Peckham Skatepark. But not too much. I was always going to Stockwell and Kennington Bowl with my mate when I was really small. But then I stopped skating and started rollerblading…
Why on earth did you stop skateboarding to rollerblade?
It was my mate that I mentioned earlier. His older brother used to skate in my area and he was like a bit of a king in the graffiti scene. We always used his skates, everybody learned on his skates. We used to rollerblade at Whites Grounds, the skatepark in London Bridge, when Reuben De Haan’s cousin used to run it.
What year was this, 2005-2006?
Yeah.
So you started skating at age 7, stopped for a few years and started again. What motivated you to get back on board?
Yeah when I was 12, in year 7, Louie Dobbs, my boy he got me on it. We used to skate with Max Critchlow as well.
Yeah the day I started skating again I was at Bay 66 Skatepark, on the mini, on blades, with a party of people and at Bay you had to wear a helmet if you’re on blades but not if you’re on a board, it’s still like that. So at the time I was like fuck this!
I tried to drop in on the mini on a board and I was like look, I put my Vans on and went for the drop in on a skateboard and just did it! Dropped in first try on the mini and I was like fuck this! I’m skating from now on. I could always ride into the bank in Peckham but I’d actually never dropped in on a skateboard up to this point.
When was the first time you made your own music?
Well it was from about the age of about 9-10, maybe 11-10. I went to this thing called School of Rock at the Prendergast School in South London. It was called Felix’s School of Rock – run by this guy called Felix. You get put into a band, it was sick. In the holidays you’d do it for 4 days for a £100.
Like a kind of music boot camp for kids?
Yeah. Max Critchlow used to do it so it was really cool. It was sick. We weren’t allowed to bring skateboards and skate in the hall because they were scared we’d break our necks it was funny man.
How did it work?
You’d’ get put in a band with a Jack Black kind of figure and then on the fourth day there would be a battle of the bands type event and you’d do a gig on the stage. There would be like 90 bands, all just like loads of small kids playing  and the winner at the end wins chocolate, whoever screams the loudest wins basically!
Sounds hilarious man
From there, I was put on the stage, those were my first shows and gigs as a kid, just playing guitar, not even singing really, I did that School of Rock like nine times over the course of the next 5 years over the holidays and shit. Then I moved from Prendergast to Thomas Tallis School and then I started working there when I got to the age of like 18.
At the School of Rock?
Yeah, my first gig was there! Playing gigs, I was really scared before I got on stage as well. Because I cared a lot about what I was doing from such a young age. Cared about how I did.
Once you’d finished school and were looking to go to College, were you making music a lot or skating a lot?
I kind of wasn’t even doing anything religiously. Skate one day. Music the next day. Day after that do some graffiti. Never do one thing; I’ve always been juggling three things at a time. Going to school and school was just…school, you know?
For sure. What was it like studying at the Brit School?
It was really cool, I loved it, I was so happy really. I wasn’t at my rubbish school I was at previously. It had a uniform. This had no uniform and liberal teachers.
That’s dope
Yeah BRIT was crazy. It was like Uni as a 15 year old, no school bell, just like be on time.
So it made you be more independent
I didn’t go to Uni. I went to Sixth Form and then just finished school,  recorded my tape when I was in year 13, towards the end of my school, so it all patterned up well. When I finished school. I was touring all around London, South, West, East and North. In all the pubs.
I guess you made such a big impact; you were waiting to make something on that level or better
The way that I do Graff is the same way I do music. My friend even told me the other day. My songs are like the same way I do a piece or skate, just perfected and something I’ve been doing for a long time, so they are all really similar for me.So what stopped you from releasing those other songs?
I went up to Leeds and recorded with this guy, stayed with him there and recorded in his house. It just felt like the act of making music felt forced. I felt mad going up to Leeds sleeping in an Air BnB and focusing solely on just making music. Now I could do it a lot more but at the time I didn’t have the concentration.
Now I know a lot more but then I wasn’t ready. I made some good stuff and I really like it now and at the time I kinda like it as well but I kind of didn’t want to release it because it wasn’t the same process as the first record that I made with a big old studio with live musicians. This was just me on my own with no drummer, my mate, my drummer wasn’t there, it didn’t feel natural.
I tried to do some other stuff, that will come out in the future that I will re-record but I did stuff that I wasn’t 100% happy but this record I’m putting out now. This latest record, I recorded the way I’d done the first one with all live instruments.
Sounds like you needed some inspiration on this one. What music inspires you as an artist?
At the time I was coming up with loads of bands that played in the Montague Arms in New Cross and The Windmill in Brixton. There were loads of bands playing there at the time
Like who?
Horsey, my cousin’s band a cover band called The Bodies and King Krule.
You and King Krule played the last ever show at the Montague Arms in New Cross, what do you remember from that gig?
Yeah, there was a queue down the fucking road. The first person I saw in the queue was King Krule. I was like what the fuck!? why are people coming to see me. I never really had confidence in myself but you know! Yeah that was the first time I experienced people acting weird man, from those days at the Montague.
Yeah, when you get fame people treat you differently. But what was it like for you?
I learned my social skills from skating so I was always just completely…When you do my line of work, you meet a lot of fans. So it’s like when you meet someone and you’re a fan of their skating, it’s just about being nice to people and it was nice at the time and I miss playing.
The last gig I played was in Jakarta and I haven’t played since then. I’ve been dormant for 2 years. It’s such a long time but you know due to Lockdown it’s just extended that really.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you have a favourite artist?
Matthew Klarwein.  He did Miles Davis’ album cover artworks and then I really like Peter Green too; he’s a musician from Fleetwood Mac.
I also like John Piper, he’s the artist who’s art I’m basing this next record I’m about to release on. It’s called a Piper for Janet because my granny’s friend drew a John Piper style painting for her, he used a lot of watercolour and collage so the front cover of this record is based on him and he’s a British Painter. John Piper, he’s pretty cool
I like Edward Ruscha; he’s a photographer but he did a lot of stuff like taking photos of carparks and gas station in LA and Route 66 from specific perspectives back in the 60s and stuff like that.
Dope. Lastly when are all your new songs going to be released?
Next couple of months; they should all be out in January
Sounds good, look forward to it. Any last words Cosmo?
For anybody who’s out there reading this thanks for supporting me.

Week 33: Resist/s/urge: An Epilogue
[This entry concludes a weekly series of Facebook posts started as I sought to cope with going on lockdown.  Though we may well be heading back or should be, I have ended the series.  They are no more than ephemeral, but I archive this one as a record of the series.]
My title is meant to mash up “resist surge” and “resists urge” as I bring to an undoubtedly temporary end to this series which I started as we headed into lockdown.  I used it to focus on how I was coping—how as a measure and how as methods.  I shifted the heading every eight weeks as it seemed that we and I were entering new phases.
We are certainly entering a new “resist surge” phase as we seem to have had almost 100,000 new cases yesterday and deaths over 1,000 the day before and nearly that many yesterday.  Most states are surging as is Europe and Latin America.  So, despite the profound US leadership crisis, the problems are not even primarily of that character.  It is not who is captain of the Titanic but that we are on poorly designed vessel sailing into a sea of icebergs.
It is also odd to suspend this series right as we end a US Presidential Election cycle where this issue is at the center.  But I have easily “resists urge” to write about that.  More challenging to resist is the urge to write about the broader, more fundamental politics underlying it.  I have such opinions and lived them in my 20s and 30s with pride and no regrets.  But this format is far from the avenue for those discussions—and, frankly, dear readers, even the young ones, for those discussions to matter very different social forces will be involved and lead them.
But I felt the series drifting in that direction as I have been settling into personal solutions to the profound challenges are living through.  So, it’s time for a balance sheet and an epilogue for now.  Again, there are new challenges/icebergs on the horizon.
But I started with addressing how I would keep body and soul together with attention, focusing on physical and mental health in the face of stress.  I continued and continue with intermittent fasting and, rather than the pandemic 15, I have continued to get rid of that middle aged gut and my weight is down 3% (rather than up 10%).  I am back in the range I was 30-35 years ago, but I am well aware that I don’t have the body of a 30 year old.
Still I might be as fit as I have ever been.  From the start, I knew that daily exercise was key—and daily walks had been my prime exercise for year.  They were and are important for getting out of the house.  But I made daily yoga the focus witchin that first month.  I’ve been doing yoga fairly regularly for over 20 years, since I gave up alcohol as part of a detox prompted by getting off Codeine 3 for a long term bout with kidney stones in 1999 that culminated in surgery.  So I know my poses and had been using Yoga with Adrienne once or twice a week for several years.  I ramped it up with her several annual 30 Days of Yoga series working my way through all of them.  Now I’m a subscriber and follow mostly her daily classes.  I have much better muscle tone, posture, and lung capacity.
So, with the body part of body and soul going, I took up soul in parallel.
I rolled with the punches with work and teaching fairly well, adjusting to the technology and tempo of remote work.  I am productive in ways that I couldn’t/cannot be at the office and feel connected to students and colleagues.  I get enough peopling in.
But, as someone important once said, life begins when this activity ceases, at the table, at the tavern, in bed.  Now the sale of my labor power is complicated and elements of it truly are unalienated and the rest of it is certainly rewarding and meaningful.  But it is alienated in the sense that, at 65 years of age, I can see the day looming when I can choose not to do it.  Life begins when I do the things I doubled down on to keep soul together.
STORIES—At first it was quite hard to concentrate and I could not read anything with a long arc.  So I read the Decameron, a story or two, but no more than three, a day until I had all 100.  It was a story of plague and distraction, so it fit. I also discovered streaming plays at first from the National Theatre of London but soon the Globe and Stratford Festival.  I homed in on Shakespeare, particularly lesser known plays.  That welcome habit has fallen off and I have missed an October series of three Shakespeare plays from a National Theatre partner.  But it is an acquisition that I hope to foster and grow.
I settled back into novels soon enough with mysteries mostly.  Right now, I’m rereading Elsa Hart’s The Cabinets of Barnaby Mayne to teach and for a Webster University Book Club with my class and Elsa herself.  Since she is someone I take my beginner’s questions about my retirement project book, it is useful to outline it on this reread as I took my note taking to a deeper, multiple purpose level.  Recently I got caught up in the 1632 universe of alternate history.  There have been several Anna Eliot/Charles Veley Sherlock Holmes/Lucy James pastiche novellas which are also good to study for my own project.  I got back into mysteries by rereading, 35 years on, the Martin Beck series on the occasion of Maj Sjowall’s death.  I also dipped into the Hogarth Shakespeare series to see how modern authors dealt with the very challenging source material of “The Taming of the Shrew” and “The Merchant of Venice” which were part of the theater season.  There were also a couple of Jodi Taylor St. Mary’s/Time Police novels as I keep up on that series.
SCHOLARSHIP—My teaching, an unalienated part of my labor and the part that I will do after retirement from the day job, has been rewarding.  I took Science in the News remote and asynchronous as we locked down.  That worked in the moment as I could make COVID our subject matter (because that what we were all studying anyway) and could think about how the world was testing us far more than I as a teacher could.  So I could relax about some of the mechanics.  I had already built eight weeks of rapport with them, so that helped too.  My current class happens synchronously but largely remotely.  It’s topic—the role of place—has been a way to test some concepts (place as human constructed, therefore rich in history worth studying, and where community happens) that are part of a broader collaboration that may result in a conference.
As we were shutting down, I had made some significant changes to my “last” Edgar Anderson paper for the Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden with Gar Allen’s suggestions.  It received further polishing from the Annals editor and also pal Peter Hoch.  So it is well and truly done, set to appear in the last quarterly paper issue of that renowned journal.  While I have said it’s the “last” Edgar paper, gee, maybe I could write about his collaboration with Pioneer Hi Bred Seed Company and so might see if Agricultural History might want it.
Place and a historical mystery are where my intellectual interests will shift.
MUSIC—The biggest threat of the pandemic is/was the loss of live music.  That very first weekend of lockdown I had the decision to not go taken out of my hands by cancellations of the SF Jazz Collective celebrating Miles Davis’s In a Silent Way and Sly Stone’s Stand at the Sheldon and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (where I have invested my Deadhead energy as I don’t think I’ll see any original members again, though talk about “resists urge” pressures) at the Pageant.  Those cancellations were sensible and necessary, but gee it would have been hard to make the decision to stay home.
The pull for live music is that strong.
But I’ve found it in ways that might even make for more opportunities.Jorma Kaukonen has done two dozen Quarantine Concerts, mostly solo with local friends from his Fur Peace Ranch operation, but Jack Casady came in for two shows in July and is around currently with the third show tonight.  Kaukonen is not only musically formative, but so forthrightly himself that it is comfortable to be with him.  I have similar warm feelings of connection with Larkin Poe who are extending the southern Americana blues roots etc tradition with slide guitar and killer vocals.  They have done various streams, both from their spare bedrooms to empty venues with their band.
The piano has been key and, at first, the recitals under the auspices of the 92nd Street Y and Fred Hersch’s almost 40 Tunes of the Day were the start.  The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the BBC 4/Wigmore Hall collaboration (with the helpful YouTube algorithm kicking in) gave me more choices.  Wigmore Hall is my go to source and through them I have seen Angela Hewitt wrap up her Bach cycle and Andras Schiff dig into the last three Beethoven Piano Sonatas.  I have discovered key parts of the horn repertoire including the Brahms Trio and the Mozart and Beethoven Wind Quintets and some of the clarinet chamber works (watching Gassenheuer for example.  I’ll click on most cello sonatas and ensembles and all piano trios.  There is something about this listening that has paid benefits to my jazz listening, particularly more challenging out there works, as I can hear structural elements better.
Jazz is my go to though and there is a wealth of in real time performances as if we really were in New York and had to choose between the Jazz Gallery (got a membership), the Vanguard (an annoying platform but top drawer stuff), the Blue Note, Smoke, and Small’s (a place to check for up and comers but also, with a contribution, through their archive, people who upped and came on the scene).  I have seen folks I wouldn’t have otherwise—George Cables, last night Oliver Lake/Reggie Workman/Andrew Cyrille, David Murray, Billy Hart with Mark Turner, Kenny Werner, Omer Avital.  It goes on and on.  I have lots of Couch Tour FB Note/Tumblr entries.
I was playing piano lots until we went on vacation, exploring how tunes fit together.  Nothing ready to unplug the headphones even for Ellen, but rewarding.  I have a new tune, “Everything Happens To Me” to understand, so I think that habit is returning.  But I do sit at the piano frequently for my almost weekly discussions with a young singer/songwriter/marching band tuba player about music theory where we explore things together.  They’re free to her and she still may be getting a bad deal but it’s part of keeping my body and SOUL together.  Between her, Jorma, and my own inclination, I do play lots of guitar and that helps too.
But it is WRITING that has been my biggest solace.  I come out of this experience comfortable saying I don’t just like to write and that I have a decent body of published work but I am a writer.  It’s how I live in the world.  It’s how I pin down my musical experiences for example.
But obviously this series itself about coping with the pandemic is how I have coped with the pandemic.  I treasure that more of you have read these than I would imagine and I do take you all into account somewhat as I write these.  I want them to be organized, appealing, and clear.  But I am a writer and I would do this even if you weren’t here.  But social media means that I’m not Franz Kafka or Emily Dickinson writing to make sense of the world but creating papers that they would just as soon be destroyed.  That said, these are thoroughly ephemeral and this one will be the only one in the series curated in the sense that it’s on my Tumblr.
So, I am a writer who makes sense of the world by writing.  The world will call me to write by being insensible.  Very soon very likely.  But this series has run its course.  So as we resist the surge, I will resist the urge to do the same old thing.
Still I bet I see you soon.

👻Ghost part 3👻
It was another day for Peter Lawrence to have two more dreadful meetings for the caretaker job. It has been two week since the boy started living at his house and he had yet to find a good caretaker for him. He was beginning to think he wouldn’t and started looking into Boarding schools.
His Secretary knocked like always and came in. “Mr. Lawrence. Your 1 o’clock is here.” She said.
Peter nodded. “Bring her in.” He watched her leave and he opened the drawer next to him, pulling out a file on the women that was about to join him.
Name: Nora Polk.
Age: 37
Other jobs: Tutor, music teacher.
Peter didn’t aloud himself to hope this was the last. Most of the other meetings he had was a total waste of his time. But he could continue at lest for today.
A moment later the secretary opened the door and a Beautiful woman stepped inside. She wear a gorgeous navy dress and a bright smile across her face. Her eyes was a lovey shade of green and were full of wonder.
Peter stood up and shook her hand. “Good evening. I’m peter Lawrence.”
“Good evening to you sir.” Nora smiled as if it’s natural for her. “I’m Nora Polk.”
Peter nodded. “ Please sit.” He offered the
comforting chair behind her. She took that Offer and sat in it. “Would you like any coffee before he get started?”
“Oh yes place.” She nodded.
Peter went to his coffee marker and poured a cup for the women. He handed it to her. She took a sip of the coffee and nodded in approval. “Alright. Let’s start.” He sat at his desk and pointed at a spot on the page. “Says right here your a tutor and a music teacher. What grade did were you helping and what subjects.”
She took a sip before she answered. “I helped out all grades in Elementary. From k-5 sir. As for the subjects i help with all. Math, science, reading, spelling and history. I also teach art. Painting, drawing, sculpting, and music!”
Peter was starting to think she was the best one to care for his nephew. But he wasn’t Fully convinced as of yet. “That’s very excellent. now uh...for your part in music. What Instruments do you teach?”
“Why I teach the notes on the scale before moving to any instrument. once we get there it could be many difficult Instruments. The piano, the violin, trumpet. The guitar. many different Instruments!” Nora smiled then sipped her coffee again.
“Wow. That’s incredible!” Peter replied. “Where’d you learn to play them all.
“My father was a musician when I was growing up. When he was home he was teach me how to play one. But I also had music teachers of my own then to for when he was on tour.” She answered.
“That sounds fantastic!” He said. “Now on your part two of this meeting.” He went back to his coffee marker and poured himself a cup. “Why do you want this position. Why not continue with what you were doing.”
She took a moment before answering his question. “A few months ago.. my husband passed away. Me and my sound Norman decided to move and start fresh. So here we are.”
Peter looked at her. “I’m deeply sorry about your husband Mrs. Polk.”
“Thank you.” She gives a sad nod.
“Uh you said you have a son. How old is he?That could be good for my nephew to hang out with a boy his age.” He inform.
“Norman is 8.” She replied. “It would be good for him to have a friend now to.”
“That’s perfect!” Peter clapped his hands. “My nephew, Sammy is 7. They uh ..should get along..”
“Should?” Nora ask looking at him.
Peter sighs. “Sammy didn’t have the best life. From the start his parents were cruel to him. Which leads me into part three. Could you handle an abuse kid?”
It took her a while before nodding. “Yes. I’d like to say I can. But I’m not sure. I never took care of a kid that was abused. But I can assure you Mr. Lawrence that will do my best with your nephew. I will protect him with my life. and I will raise him as my son.” She answered.
Peter Lawrence liked her honesty. She had to knowledge to school him and the caring of a mother. All things he’d been looking for this whole time.
Peter went to her. “I think you would be perfect as his caretaker. When can you start?”
Nora smiled again. “I can started whenever you need!”
“Perfect! Your hired!” He shook her hand again. “You start tomorrow!”
That night Peter when home and had two rooms be cleaned for there new Company. The floors mopped, the sheets changed, the windows watched, everything else dusted.
Peter found Sammy in his room playing with sticks and rocks on the ground. He stepped up to him and knelt down in front of him. “I found you a caretaker Sammy.”
Sammy glances up at him with untrustworthy eyes. “I believe she’s going to be the parent you need. I know she won’t hurt you.”
Sammy didn’t say anything. He just started up at his uncle with those big untrustworthy eyes. Peter sort of felt bad for him. But what could be do now about his pass. Nothing. He was helpless to change it and helpless to help
His nephew in whatever was going on in his mind. He just sighs and leaves the room. Leaving Sammy Alone again.
The next day around lunchtime Peter came home bringing with Nora and her son Norman Polk. While Mr. Jade went to get there luggage while Peter started there tour around the mansion. After a few rooms Norman got bored and decided to rom somewhere else. He
He left the adults and went down the hall opposite from them. He opened random doors to see what he could find in them. There was some with furniture in them like a bed or boxes but most were empty waiting to be used.
He continued this into he opened up the door of the kids room. He saw the kid jumped and turned to him. He could see the fear in his eyes the second he turned around but it slipped away quickly when the kid saw him. His mother had told him that he had an awful pass and to not to judge him no matter what.
He took a slow step in so he won’t scare him. “Hi there. I’m Norman.” He smiled down at the blonde boy
“I’m Sammy. And you don’t have to be super delicate with me.” He spat that last part and turned back to his book.
“Yea. I’m sorry.” He said meaning it and walking to Sammy and leaning on the wall.
Sammy glances at him again. “ It’s fine..” then he went back to his book.
Norman could tell he was nervous around him. “Hey kid...” he got him to look up at him again. “I was told you had a rough start in life. I’m sorry you had to go through with all that. But I want you to know I’m here for you. You can tell me everything you needed. I want to be your best friend. One where you feel
Safe around with anything at all.” He said then added. “ I know we just meet but I just wanted to let you know. I hope we get to that.”
Norman stood there a moment later and then he left Sammy alone to give him time to think about what he offered. Sammy watched the door anxiously. The boy wanting to be his friend. No one ever offered that to him. He sighs and turned back around. He wouldn’t want to once he finds out what he knows and what his interest are. He turned the page and continued reading.

Do You Feel Like I Do? Review: Peter Frampton Lets Loose With a Killer Solo Memoir
https://ift.tt/3m41AiN
Just to count it off, Peter Frampton’s Do You Feel Like I Do? A Memoir is as much fun as hearing a talking box guitar solo for the first time. Live and with an audience, of course. Each of Frampton’s best-known albums, either with his bands like Humble Pie or in his solo career, are live records. He may also love the studio albums he made, but just like The Who, whose studio albums he loves, those records are a different breed from a live show. Frampton should know, one of the first gigs he ever got was touring as an opening act for The Who.
And, as much fun as they were to see on stage, even their live shows paled when compared to ducking bottle rockets Keith Moon and John Entwistle aimed into his motel windows between shows. Frampton had fun, and it comes across on the pages of Do You Feel Like I Do?
While still in the school era of the book, Frampton talks about going nuts when he first got to jump on a trampoline. He was the first in his class to do a somersault, and then a backwards somersault. It got him shoved into a crate, but it sounds like a blast. Almost as exciting as meeting a young David Jones at school. No, not the Monkee, the one who had to change his name because of the Monkees: David Bowie, who remembered seeing Frampton in a band on TV before he had a hit.
Bowie was a few years older than Frampton and his recollection of seeing the young guitarist he jammed with outside his favorite teacher’s office was “what’s he doing on TV? He should be in school.” Frampton’s father, the teacher Bowie loitered with, initially agreed. Frampton left school early to go pro as a musician. Years later, when Frampton brought his parents backstage to a Bowie concert, his father disappeared with the Thin White Duke. The stories make you grin. They are exactly the kind of rock and roll parables we want to hear from musicians.
That’s not to say Frampton doesn’t foist some stories we would never have expected. Like one about his father in the war, the details of which you have to read to believe. It’s not the kind of thing you want to know happens in reality. But you won’t stop reading it, not even if you’re just looking for the rock and roll gossip. There are a few of these stories thrown in, and Frampton is upfront about his drinking and drugging. He even explains why it took him so long to take his first toke. The very smell of some of the shit Steve Marriott smoked made him want to throw up. That didn’t stop him from getting high though. Nonetheless, the book doesn’t dwell in sadness.
It dwells on guitars, and jubilantly. Frampton’s favorite guitar, the Phenix, a modified 1954 Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty with the same three-humbucking-pickup configuration as the guitarist in Smokey Robinson’s Miracles, gets a book in itself. The ode of the Phenix could be a miniseries. Guitarists would watch. But that’s not the only guitar that the mostly monogamous Frampton fingered. He talks about seeing the set list still taped on the back of John Lennon’s red Rickenbacker when he played for Harry Nilsson. He was the first person to touch the guitar since whatever show the set list fit.

Frampton’s journey through the guitar is as interesting as his trek through life. Oh, and just hearing how everyone in Humble Pie was a Star Trek fan is a giggle, especially as they discuss Spock’s ears. But Frampton’s mission to seek out new sounds led him through from The Shadows to Django Reinhardt, through George Benson, and back to Kenny Burrell, giving him an arsenal of tonalities Eric Clapton didn’t touch. Everyone wanted to be Clapton, except Frampton who makes it clear he wanted his guitar sound to be uniquely his. He also talks about drums and filling in for drummers who don’t show. He talks about the balls of covering Stevie Wonder songs. He makes it all sound like a dream.
Great musicians refer to respected peers as motherfuckers, and the one thing anyone who’s ever pushed a beat or a melody out of their fingers or throat will agree on is Peter Frampton was one lucky motherfucker. He could play, he took in everything he heard so that he could do whatever it was he wasn’t hearing from other guitarists and made it his own. But he had the good fortune to play with the best, and at the earliest of ages. Before he could even get into clubs he was playing them. Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones asked Frampton’s mother permission so he could play. He didn’t ask permission to get Frampton laid though, but when the teenaged guitar wiz came home with crabs, his mother took it in stride. Musicians, it’s an occupational hazard.
Frampton released Frampton Comes Alive! nearly 45 years ago. It’s always been thought that the album made him a pinup. He’s fought this all his career, since he was named the “Face of 1968” as an 18-year old guitarist/singer for the rock-poppy band the Herd. Sure, he got laughed at a few times for one-sleeved shirts with frills on the crotch, long before he put on the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band uniforms for an ill-advised movie where the Bee Gees also carried that weight. Frampton didn’t want to be Vivien Leigh, so beautiful you forget what a phenomenal actress she is.
Peter is a musician, and a lot of artists owe him a big debt, not only because of his fretwork influence. He gleefully recounts Dr. John telling him how he got out of jail on a drug charge with the money he earned when Frampton recorded his song “I Walk on Gilded Splinters.” Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones thanked Frampton for including “Jumping Jack Flash” on the gazillion-seller Frampton Comes Alive! He bought a house with the royalties.
As sad as the circumstances, it is a joy to hear how other rock stars come to collect. Frampton recalls when his career was in a slump and he got a phone call from Pete Townshend. The Who’s guitarist and songwriter was sick of touring and asked Frampton to take his place, before even consulting Roger Daltrey. Frampton says he told Townshend he couldn’t fill his shoes, but think of the fun Frampton had on the trampoline. Townshend was known as “Bouncy” in the “Meaty,” “Beaty” “Big” and “Bouncy” quartet. He jumped higher than Daltrey’s shoulders, often in self-defense to get away from the swinging mic, but still. Frampton could have made the leap.
The era of Humble Pie, which also included ex-Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley, is also where producer Frampton really gets to work with Glyn Johns. They’d had a happy history, and it continues through the Humble Pie albums Rock On and Rockin’ the Fillmore, which made them huge when it came out in the fall of 1971. So big, Frampton had to jump ship onto a solo career before he’d never be able to get out.
Frampton keeps the telling light, but is absolutely candid. He never thought he could be as good a singer as Steve Marriott, who had been in the Small Faces, but at least he’d know enough not to balk at opening Jimi Hendrix on his first American tour. Frampton also explains how he went from one Johns brother to another as he embarked on his solo career.
Oh, and the book’s got mob stories. Not quite as heavy as the ones surrounding Led Zeppelin, who Frampton credits with a sonic boom as great as the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper, but suspenseful nonetheless. His manager Dee Anthony has a meeting with Genovese family soldier Joey Pagano in front of Frampton, and when the rock star became a pop idol, he was kept high, happy and distracted. Frampton had no idea he was totally bankrupt until the movie Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band bombed at the box office. The only reason Frampton did Sgt Pepper was because his manager said Paul McCartney would be in it.
Frampton can’t quite say enough about his school chum Bowie. Not only did Frampton credit the older musician with a few needed pushes, gigs, and music store jobs when he was coming up, but Bowie reenergized Frampton when he was running out of steam. In 1987 Frampton played guitar on Bowie’s Glass Spider world tour. Two years later, Frampton comes back with a vengeance, which happens, as he says, on the album title When All the Pieces Fit.
Many will see this book as an example of rock stardom gone wrong. But as a reader, it really is what we want to hear, except for the inflammatory muscle disease, Inclusion-Body Myositis, which threatens to end his career as a live performer.
Frampton’s still working, and the book, co-written with Alan Light, is as happy to say it as fans will be to read it. But more than fans, most musicians should read this, not because of any cautionary tale titillation. Because of his explanation of how he found his sound, the horns Frampton listens to, the piano parts he plays and appreciates in others. Yes, the most fun are stories like having a Beatle (Ringo Starr), an honorary Beatle (Billy Preston), and a long-time Beatle artist and an alternative bassist (Klaus Vorman) backing him at a music pitch; or being told by George Harrison he’d like to hear him on every track. But for musicians, Do You Feel Like I Do? rocks loudest when he speaks about what he’s playing. Imagine it coming out of a talk box. It’s that enjoyable.

Well organized and clear instructions
The format Jim Bruce uses is like sitting in your living room and having a good friend show you lick by lick how to play a song. This is how I learned to play many years ago, as I expect many of you did, too. The tabs are simple and accurate, and he combines them with close ups of the left and right hands so there is no guessing. And the songs are classics, a very nice study of fingerstyle blues. Thanks, Jim.

Improved my music
I have been playing fingerstyle guitar for years. I signed up for this class already knowing some of the songs, but wanting different twists. I have been most pleasantly rewarded. Jim’s approach has improved my playing, and his breaks are a welcome addition. I find that I take his input, mix it up a bit with my own style, and end up sounding better. A highly recommended course for seasoned players, and likely a godsend for those who haven’t played much at all. thanks!

Learning Ragtime
We are so lucky to have the guidence from Jim to learn this old style of music. He gives us the foundation needed to play ragtime. I am thankful for his blind blake lesson collection, he teaches complete complicated songs from start to finish and breaks it down making learning easier. Go Jim! Highly recommended!

A true lover of blues and a very accurate teacher
Jim Bruce not only succeeds in making you sharing his love of blues by his simplicity and obvious kindness but teaches you as well the accurate technics of the old masters of blues. He makes you discover some bluesmen who have unfortunately not the fame they deserve and show you how exactly they played.
A thousand thanks to Jim

Jim Bruce acoustic blues maestro
A great player and a great teacher. This man loves the guitar and the music it makes. Breaking the licks down to easily learned sections will let you learn to play the music you love better than ever. It has for me. Keep teachin’ that pickin’ Jim. You truly are the man.

Great lessons!
Jim is a great teacher. Straightforward, clear and clearly passionate about the blues. The lessons are well tabbed and essy to follow. Jim often gives alternative versions or licks – ones he plays on the street which are also helpful in finding other ways to play the song. Great value. Great course!

Dedicated bluesman
The Brits have had a long love affair with American blues. As a lifelong resident of Chicago, I was startled to discover in the 60s at 13 years of age the music I was listening to from England (primarily electric blues as played by Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer and Eric Clapton) was originally from my hometown, albeit the “other side of the tracks.”
Jim clearly has a love affair with all forms of acoustic blues, and it shows with these easy to follow transcriptions. I only wish they were also transcribed into standard notation as well as the tab he provides. A small nit, but don’t let it stop you from making the investment in his course. It’s worth every penny. The tune selection is extensive and outstanding.
Thanks for keeping indigenous American music alive Jim.

Great value to learn acoustic fingerstyle Blues
Thanks Jim for a comprehensive learning tool to study acoustic blues guitar. Awesome range of material to choose from. Good instruction and well broken down to easy to learn sections. Good examples of how the songs should sound – and obviously a seasoned performer. This is for the intermediate player though, but if you know your basic chords and are prepared to put the effort in, I’m sure you will get there. Video is polished and while not shot in a studio, is very good. Easy to see everything he does. If you only learn one song from this course it is money well spent, but I’m sure if you get this, you will learn more than one song.

It’s not what you play but how you play it. And here you learn how to play it right.
I’ve seen finger style guitar made to hard by many teachers, but this course gets you playing and doesn’t leave you frustrated because you will get results and have fun.
