i want to hear the sports anime manifesto
Tumblr media
Okay short version:
My life was a sports anime for a bit, and watching sports anime makes me nostalgic for those days.
Medium version:
The typical shonen sports anime deals with themes of camaraderie, ambition, and the intersections of camaraderie and ambition, which ALWAYS hits me right in the chest.
I'm not an ambitious person by nature, but--you know that one poem floating around on here, the one about the moth that wants nothing more than to fly into the flame, and how it would be nice to feel that kind of all consuming passion? Yeah, that's the feeling I get from sports anime.
And often, for the Team Sports anime, you'll get characters who have nothing in common except that they Love the Same Thing--a friendship/rivalry/(romance) formed on the basis of a shared interest. That's sweet as hell!
And they're super predictable and low stress for me. Very easy to watch! Total popcorn shows. Also I like listening to people infodump about their passions. Someone loved their Sport so much they wrote a whole-ass story about it, so yeah, eat that shit up.
Long version:
The Socioeconomic Inequalities of High School Sports
In high school, I was on a crappy underfunded soccer team (with a healthy dose of sexism) and due to [sports league division reasons] the schools we played against were almost exclusively private schools.
I cannot describe how existential it is to be wearing a hand-me-down formerly white-turned-disgusting-gray uniform that's at least five years old when playing against a team that gets brand new windbreakers every season.
(If you've read AAB, YES this is where my obsession with the windbreakers comes from.)
(Hilariously, the guys team got windbreakers but we didn't.)
(I am not over the fucking windbreakers.)
But anyway, when you're constantly losing to private schools you get this fucking complex about it.
This should come as no surprise but like. People with the time and resources to practice their Thing get good at their Thing.
Playing pick up soccer at the park is practice. Playing rec league soccer is organized, repeated practice.
Playing competitive club soccer is all of that, plus a coach who knows How To Coach and What The Sport Is, plus you get morale-boosting uniforms and the chance to play with and against other skilled players. So you're exposed to a lot more, and thus, you learn a lot more.
Competitive club soccer is also Expensive. Rich kids get good.
There's a reason why the "Powerhouse School" is a thing in sports anime, because it's a thing in real life. People with leisure time and money get to invest in their sports development, and everyone else gets left behind in the dust. It's basically a microcosm of capitalism.
The underdog sports story is (quite tragically) bootstraps propaganda. All you have to do is be really good and work really hard and have A LOT OF PASSION to get good at your sport! The cream rises to the top! This is a meritocracy! Let's ignore all the other factors that go into an individual's development as an athlete!
(My brother got scouted for club soccer as a kid. He actually went to tryouts and got offered a spot and a scholarship and everything, but there's SO many hidden fees after the initial registration. Uniforms, equipment, travel and accommodation, tournaments, plus like, the time sink, so we never signed him up. And equipment-wise, soccer is one of the cheapest sports you can play--just imagine the price for something like baseball or hockey.)
In sports anime, there is no reform. There is no revolution.
But sports anime isn't really about that. It's about the narratives we create when we convince ourselves that we deserve to win.
(You know what I mean. Every billionaire is convinced they're some sort of heroic underdog. The same exact kind of 'working your way up' narrative.)
Sports anime is like, the uncomplicated power fantasy of playing the game. It's a world where you are rewarded for your hard work, because it's narratively satisfying. It's a world where it's safe to want things, because you have the exact same chances as the private school kids.
I used to be an obnoxiously competitive child. Then I got all my competition beaten out of me by 3 straight years of constant losing in my clownagerie of a high school soccer team (affectionate). I am going to admit that experience made me a better person and I would not trade it for anything, but I also had to like, relearn how to want things. And maybe real life is not as equal opportunity as the world of sports anime, but I think it's good to want things.
Of course, the winner-loser dichotomy makes sense in sports because of the inherent nature of competition, but it doesn't make sense in stuff like society and economics because that's like, competing over the right to live. That's where the capitalism metaphor ends,
Does sports anime actually go into the socioeconomic inequalities of sports? No. Of course not. Giant Killing never got a season 2.
But it is something I think about when I write sports anime fic. Even if it's not the point, it influences my characterization. The ego of a prodigy character in a shitty sports program is different from the ego of a prodigy character in a rich kid sports program. I am obligated to my amateur attempts to capture the complexities of the high school sports environment in my fanfiction because I am fucking insane I had a specific high school sports experience and they do say to write what you know.
#MEG I SWEAR TO YOU I WILL READ TANGERINE AT SOME POINT#I have so many thoughts about sports anime which is tragic because sports anime is not that deep#it is never that deep#part of the reason why I got so sucked into Daiya is because of the powerhouse school setting#and the fact that Eijun was so obviously lost because he never had that kind of organized system before#people give Seidou a lot of shit for 'not helping Eijun' enough but genuinely it's because he has NO CLUE how to reach out#I poured so much brainpower into Eijun's backstory in my brain it's embarrassing as hell#*shaking fanfic authors by the shoulders* YEAH THE CUTTHROAT COMPETION SUCKS BUT YOU DONT FIX IT BY SENDING HIM TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL#I also am the only person who understands Miyuki Kazuya (exaggeration)#everyone gives him shit for the Nabe thing and look. yes he was wrong.#but I was once in that same exact situation and responded exactly the same way#Daiya no Ace is not about friendship#it's about Ambition#and people tend to make Eijun the sweet sentimental sunshine friendship guy#but he has JUST as much cutthroat ambition as Miyuki#that's why they work. that's why they understand each other#there's a whole essay I could write about Misawa but it's basically just chapter 18 of AAB#anyway if you want to watch a sports anime that does the Healthy Ambition and the Friendship Thing in the most wholesome way possible#watch Haikyuu. it really is the perfect sports anime.#shame the fanfic is 99% ship because the sports aspect of it is SUPER sweet#asks#jumpstrike#I'm answering jumpstrike but Tav I hope you see this too#lazuli talks#sports anime

hi yinggg! really love how accurate and in-character your headcanons are ❣️❣️
your drawing hcs for goo and lua got me curious on what (kind of) anime would lookism characters be a fan of/won't stop talking about. i would like to know your thoughts about it. 🤗🤗
hope you have a nice day! 🫶🫶
Hello Hi ~~ Aaa tysm for your kind words!! I’m glad you like my HCs!! And your question is really interesting! 💕🌸
Since I already shared my HCs about Goo and Lua I’ll exclude them this time ~
Also I didn’t watch most of these Animes/ didn’t finish watching so I’m sorry if there’s anything wrong with it~
What Animes would Lookism characters watch
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daniel
I feel like Daniel wouldn’t be too big of an Anime fan
probably watched some of the more popular ones (?)
Mostly watches ShounenAnime
One piece (he didn’t watch all of it only a few episodes)
Demon Slayer
Naruto
Bleach
HxH
Vasco
He watches Cartoons more than Anime but sometimes he also watches Anime
Pokemon Go
Detective Conan
Doraemon
Zack
The type who watches Sport Animes
Free!
Haikyuu
Baki the Grappler
and a lot of boxing Animes (I don’t know any though )
Mira and Zoe
Romance Anime, Shoujo, Ghibli Movies all the way~~~!!
They’ve watched Howls moving castle so many times
Kamisama kiss
Your lie in April
Ao Haru Ride
Oh and don’t forget Kimi ni Todoke
At this point I’m just kinda inserting my own favorite Animes 🌸
Johan
Maybe Horror/Psychological/Thriller Animes
The type who prefers to read manga
Junji Ito Collection
Perfect Blue
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Gun
Like Goo, a weeb
All kinds of Animes and he’s kind of just forgets about them after watching them once
BUT I like to think that Gun likes to watch „Yakzua to Househusband“ (I don’t know why it’s just funny to me)
Jake
Has similar taste to Daniel
watches only the popular stuff
Sword Art Online (even though everyone else in Big Deal dislike SAO Jake enjoys it a lot)
Alright ~ these are all of my HCs for now if there’s anything you’d like to add let me know! Once again tysm for the ask! ily and have a great day! 💖💕

Dangerous romance 7/10 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tumblr media
Lists I’d Put It In: So much potential, Sports, Slice of Life
Review: There is a lot of things I like about dangerous romance but the cons makes it so that I’d likely not watch it again.
Pros the actors main and side were fan fucking tastic. Perth can be so intimidating bratty sexy and on the other hand just a sweet little puppy. I love how funny he made Kang just adding flare. Chimon baby of OffGun of course I watched this show mainly for him. Sailom is basically a hop skip and jump away from Wave from the gifted Sassy Smart Secertly extremely caring and gushy. I’m hoping Chimon’s roles always involve sass it’s his signature. GIVE PAPANG AND PEPPER A BIGGER BL ROLE AND VIEWJUNE ALL OF MY MONEY. MarcPawin really surprised me as well I wasn’t expecting much because I just watched my gear your gown. The grandma was precious. Euro and JJ were great comic relief I wish there had been more of them. I wish there was more I made a post before this 12th ep saying how I’d fix the series in detail. So I’m gonna boil it down here. The ships should have been more interlocked with eachother. The editing made the show boring. Why did we have so many flashbacks and lingering shots. I love a pretty scene but they took so long and we needed extra interlocking scenes for all the ships. Ugh I can see how this show would have been great with just a few changes which makes it so frustrating. Anyways more about the ships after the break
Tumblr media
First Perth and Chimon are not at fault for this I’m talking about editing and story. I adore KangSailom they had good potential but it felt like it got every trope imaginable enemies to lovers, poor boy rich boy, long standing unexplainable secret crush from childhood, tutor student, redemption arc, misunderstanding. AND YET IT FELT WEAK BECAUSE OF THE EDITING AND LACK OF OTHER CHARACTERS INTERACTION UNTIL THE VERY END.
Meanwhile audiences kept getting tiny precious glimpses of WONDERFUL side ships.
Tumblr media
GuyNawa Idiot Sport boy for Idiot Sport boy with injury, enemies to lovers (really fully enemies), long standing crush was so incredibly beautiful and effective. I probably won’t have liked their plot too if it had been drawn out because I would have been missing the other side characters but what we got for them was perfect I’d rewatch their scenes again. I was much more impressed by MarcPawin this time I hope they get another series their kiss was thru the roof. They give me strong Sports Anime vibes made me miss Haikyuu.
Tumblr media
Saifah and Name had the most potential to be a 10/10 ship. Papang and Pepper definitely need their flowers because the show didn’t give them a lot to work with. Their characters and storylines should have been worked in from the beginning. I wanted to want to cry for Saifah when he was taken away. I wanted to want Name to stay safe as he tried to protect Sailom and Saifah. But I felt like it was so rushed. We barely got to see what these characters had. But everything we did was leaning towards greatness a big brother who has done wrong in the past to get by trying to do ANYTHING for his brother even tho he’s in over his head and a bit of an idiot and mafia guy who sees his highschool friend again falls in love but is offered shit choices all around to his enviable conclusion and redemption. If only we had gotten them sooner and worked into Sailom’s plot more. I’m telling you it would have been stunning. I can see the vision.
Tumblr media
I really love Pimfah. She is… a great female character. I talked about it already but great lesbian energy. I wish I had more. I wish Pimfah could have been worked more smoothly into Kang’s storyline after he decided to go after Sailom. The student teacher was precious. She is going to make a great teacher. I wish we got a spin off of what happens in London. But sadly the ship just didn’t have enough screen time.
I might rewatch the GuyNawa scenes again but the rest is probably a skip.
Bonus: Strangest kiss in the bathroom award goes to….

top 5 ships
Hey hey ♡ thank you very much for this difficult ask :') Because how can my shipper heart limit itself to only 5 ships?
Okay, it's hard for me to choose but here we go:
1. Kyoru (Kyo Sohma x Honda Tohru from "Fruits Basket") - Ahhh they evoke so many feelings in me! I absolutely love their relationship and how deep their feelings for each other are. How many times did they make me cry while watching anime and reading manga! They have been through so much and deserve to be happy. Yeah, Kyo and Tohru have a special place in my heart.
2. Sakuatsu (Sakusa Kiyoomi x Miya Atsumu from "Haikyuu!") - I came across this ship by accident in some Haikyuu fanfic. I didn't even know they were a thing, but I liked their dynamics in fics so much that I've fallen in the rabbit hole for months, even years. A day without Sakuatsu fic was a wasted day and they are the reason I started writing fics. I love that no one can stand them except each other, so they are perfect for each other. And their bickering is my weakness.
3. Tododeku (Todoroki Shoto x Midoryia Izuku from "My Hero Academia") - I have a fondness for this ship because they made me addicted to reading fanfiction. Although the manga has not been favorable to Tododeku shippers for a long time, nothing will take away from their initial interactions, how Midoriya changed Todoroki's life and the latter later began to always support him. (and sports festival always is in my mind)
4. Shiguang (Cheng Xioaoshi x Lu Guang from "Link Click") - They are simply soulmates! You just look at them and you know. Their devotion to each other makes me want to scream. No one will tell me it's just friendship. One would sacrifice everything for the other, even the future of the entire world. I love them. And they love each other.
5. Zosan (Ronoroa Zoro x Blackleg Sanji from "One Piece"). I haven't even watched the anime, I haven't read the manga, I only know Live Action 😭😭😭 But I absolutely fell in love with this duo, which has become my current obsession. They are equals!!! And for me this is a sign of a good ship. And their bickerking - ahhh something beautiful! Seriously, for the last few months I've been mainly reading fics with this ship. The fics are so good and the fanarts are so beautiful that I'm really tempted to take up anime and find something to do for the next few years :')
Sorry, I got carried away:')
Anyway, have a nice day ♡

Hi hi my love!! ^^ So you asked for asks right? :3 I realize a lot of the times when I send you these I tend to ask you to rank stuff lol so I guess I'll lean into it? How about top 5 (or 10 if you have enough) anime series or top 5 (or 10) animated movies? :3 It's pretty general but I figure it should give you a lot of room to go over some of your favorites ^^ Sending love and good wishes!!! ❤️
ehehe thank you my love 🥺👉👈🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
i wanted to do both but then i did the top 5 anime and i got very carried away with my explanations so i kept it as just that. anyway:
1. haikyuu!! probably my favorite show ever tbh. i think hq has a perfect story, like it uses its genre to do everything right, and its impact on the outside world is amazing as well. as for the series itself, it's just beautiful (ignoring that one episode in season 4) and has a very unique style, stellar voice acting, awesome soundtrack, delicious symbolism, and it really gets you hyped for volleyball :P it's very easy to get attached even to the most minor character bc the story is written in a way that lets almost everyone in this HUGE cast (well over a 100 or even 150 named characters, i'm pretty sure) shine, and you're guaranteed to find someone you like. the only downside is you'll probably end up rooting for every team so eventually a team you like will lose a game (likely to another team you like) and that hurts every time fr. and still!!!!! it manages to be so feel-good and optimistic and really gets you pumped and inspired!!!! i think anyone who is even just open to try sports anime should check it out, it's def one of the most accessible I've seen in that genre (in a sense that it doesn't expect you to already be familiar with the sport to understand the story)
2. honestly?? osomatsu-san. probably bc it's very dear to me like emotionally, season 2 was still releasing when i was stuck in the hospital for a few months, and it was like a light i held onto every week (i was also following a few mangas back then but those were harder to follow. due to oso-san's skit nature it was always a good time) and i mean, ichi was my first f/o before i even knew that term existed hehe. it's one of these shows i wouldn't actually recommend to anyone unless i know they're ok with gross or edgy humor but i do think it's really good, i love how meta it is, and i think it uses its premise to deliver maximum entertainment!
(oh my god that was so much gushing abt a silly skit show i am so sorry <- guy who wrote most of the hq gushing after typing this part up. he was not aware)
3. ok so this one's really niche, idk if any of you have even heard of it heh. it's called bungou stray dogs-
ajdkflhlh while i have my gripes with how they adapt the manga, i do still think it's a very good anime as is. it was good enough to get me hooked on the story and characters and want to learn more and follow the story further, yknow? it's beautiful and i love its use of colors for symbolism, it has really great voice acting, and the energy is kept up throughout it enough to remain engaging. it's honestly a show I'd recommend everyone to at least try 🤔!
4. persona 4!!!! from one mediocre adaptation to a GREAT adaptation. i think p4's anime is really really well made - it manages to translate a game this long into a coherent and interesting story, gives its characters time to shine, and maintains a perfect balance between fun and emotions. also it has probably the best dub I've ever heard. naoto's anime voice dni. also i think episode 26 is a true masterpiece i think everyone should watch it
5. ngl. it's a three way tie for me. between shows i only watched once and don't have a lot of attachment to beyond that, but i think they're really good for very different reasons. gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun / great pretender / blue period. i won't go into details on why i love them all bc this post is already long enough. but if you're reading this you should check them out 🫡
also if this post convinces you to check out any show mentioned here you legally have to tell me ok? esp if you end up liking it 🧐🔥🔥

9 Favorite TV Shows (that I don’t always talk about)
I got tagged by @blairwaldcrf - and am gonna take a page from their book, because this list is just always the same. So. Cutting out all the shows I always talk about anyway.
(The 9 that are on the obvious main list: Buffy, Relic Hunter, Leverage, Once Upon a Time, Shadowhunters, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Teen Wolf, Charmed)
These are in no particular order because it’d break my brain to actually rank them!
1. Community
Tumblr media
One of my favorite comedies! It is so silly, but it is also very consistent - it does drop a little in the later seasons, but I love the originality of the show in the overall.
2. The Nanny
Tumblr media
My all-time favorite comedy show. I used to rewatch all the re-runs. One of the down-sides of streaming is that you no longer just... end up watching reruns (also so much content, no real time for casual rewatches, I should make the time for another rewatch). Will they/won’t they rom-coms all around the world want what Max and Fran had. Jealous bitches want to be CC but never will be. No butler has ever sassed like Niles.
3. Hustle
Tumblr media
I love this show a lot! It is severely underrated! It’s if Leverage was a band of British bastards who steal for themselves and break the fourth wall. I love them a lot. I think everyone who loves Leverage should go and watch Hustle too, honestly. It’s about the found family and the con.
4. Grey’s Anatomy
Tumblr media
Listen, this show isn’t perfect, it has flaws, but anything that has run for 19 years has to have flaws. But I love it so much - and the friendship between Cristina and Meredith is quite frankly absolutely amazing. The way they prioritize each other, and the way their partners accept that? And so many more things I love about this show.
5. Stargate SG-1
Tumblr media
Genuinely my favorite scifi show. It is so well-written with such compelling characters and arcs and just genuinely so funny, it has no right to still hold up so well and be that funny - and I’m saying that as someone who didn’t grow up on it and only discovered it a couple years ago.
6. Recess
Tumblr media
My comfort cartoon from my childhood. I loved this as a kid so very, very much and it still brings me a lot of joy and warm childhood memories to rewatch.
7. Kekkai Sensen
Tumblr media
I can’t explain this one. I hate blood/violence in anime, I usually skip these parts. I don’t know. But I have so much love for this anime. I regularly find myself rewatching it because I love it so much (though also, admittedly, due to its short length. Can’t casually pop in a full rewatch of One Piece).
8. Kuroko no Basuke
Tumblr media
Favorite of the sports anime! An absolute classic. The color-coded basketball monster boys! It also masters length quite well, to be honest? Many either stretch out the length of games far too long (side-eyeing later seasons of Haikyuu), or more recent anime that just... cut everything so very short and speedrun through it all a little too much? I think KnB has the right balance to stretch it out but keep you in suspense.
9. Shadow & Bone
Tumblr media
And you know what! Another ongoing show, beside Grey’s. I really do love SaB a lot, what can I say. I’m weak for flawed fantasy shows with great characters.

I just watched a YouTube video comparing Blue Lock and Haikyuu, and Blue Lock got a low rating for characters...
Hmmmmmm.....
Haikyuu indeed fleshes out more of its characters, giving even the forgettable extras backstories. Meanwhile, Blue Lock character backstories are only shown when they're relevant to the current match and when the character themselves are integral to the bigger plot.
So yeah, we don't know the stories of everyone on Team Z and of the many others eliminated in the first selection, but you won't really feel like you're missing out on something because of it. (I'm still ardently waiting for Raichi's backstory, though.)
And to give Haikyuu a higher rating just because it has more slice of life scenes showing their lives outside the sport?
Hmmmmm
That's not fair at all. Blue Lock and Haikyuu have very different story-telling styles. Haikyuu is a typical high school sports anime done to perfection, while Blue Lock is practically a thriller story that just happens to be using sports as its medium. Of course Haikyuu would have more slice of life scenes!
What Blue Lock does instead to flesh out more of its characters is to make separate spin-offs for them instead of lumping their backstories in the main story. It has whole fucking novels for its major characters, and you're telling me it's losing on characterization???
I sure hope the anime can adapt the side stories somehow. Maybe in an OVA. I need people to shut up

I saw your post about sports anime and I can see you’re a fan of Kuroko no basket. I haven’t watched it or read it but from what I’ve seen it does look good. Are there any other sport animes/mangas you like apart from KNK ?
i am OBSESSED with kuroko (the series and the character), i watched half of it for the first time when i was around 14 but i never got around to finishing it, and then last year i decided to give it another go and my life has never been the same since.
i always say this about knb, but it's one of those shows that's extremely hit or miss. the people that love it REALLY love it, but it doesn't work for everyone! for me, personally, the strong characterizations and character arcs are what pulled me in and i loved the themes the show was trying to touch on, even if it doesn't always execute them perfectly! it's so fun and flawed and since it's only 3 seasons long, i rewatch it frequently 😅 it helps that the VAs seemed to have a lot of fun doing it and the OSTs are phenomenal – genuinely some of the best i've ever heard! i also think it's the perfect example of a series that has a protagonist and deuteragonist and actually knows what to do with that duo throughout the show. the story is kagami's just as much as it is kuroko's and their individual arcs really tie the whole thing together in a way that is just so fun! the partnership carries the series. it also has amazing antagonist redemption arcs in the first half of the series...god i just love a lot of the characters' arcs and resolutions so much!
i liked the anime better than the manga, though i've heard some fans say some of the characters are more one-dimensional in the anime (i disagree, but i'm not going to bore you with the details!)
ANYWAY. other than that, i have – extremely slowly – been reading the manga 'real' by takehiko inoue and it is just an absolute masterpiece about a bunch of boys with disabilities playing basketball! if knb is a silly show that is extremely flawed but you love it anyway, real is a classic. it has amazing characters, a really grounded story, and the art is so BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful, you will not believe it! inoue is so good at drawing people! as someone who used to love barbara gordon from the batman comics, it's really refreshing to read about disabled characters written thoughtfully again! after i'm done i'm going to try slam dunk, obviously, but it'll probably take me a while to finish it since the 'real' manga is still ongoing.
i tried giving haikyuu a go a few years ago but couldn't get into it (same with yuri on ice). nothing against either of the two, they just didn't grab me. i've been wanting to read a girls-centric sports manga too, but i've only done limited research on that so far and haven't seen anything that interested me all that much.
[side note: this is not an anime but a tv show but i really enjoyed yellowjackets, which is a showtime drama about an all-girls soccer team that gets stranded in the woods for 19 months. the actresses are all fantastic and i'm really looking forward to season 3, even if season 2 was a bit of a dud].

I watched Haikyuu finally. I finished Season 1 on [07/16/23] and the last season on [07/19/23].
I absolutely loved this series, and while I already knew that from having read the manga previously (2021 reread), I had never watched it, and this just brought forth that love again.
I deeply enjoyed watching the animations of the characters and the matches, it really gave them life, and it was nice to hear everyone's voices. I watched seasons 1-3 in Animelon and used English and Japanese subtitles, but watched season 4 (To The Top) on a zoro.to equivalent website with only English subtitles. The animation quality in the second part of season 4 was a bit wonky at times, but looked very good during up close frames.
When I first watched it, I was excited to see the Shiratorizawa match, but I have to say that my absolute favorite match was Karasuno v. Inarizaki. It was super long and super intense the entire way through, but I had so much fun. I had to try not to scream at all of the character moments we got to see.
This is one of my favorite manga/anime series (both are great), with fun and realistic characters, great development for quite a few of them, a variety of personalities, and great volleyball matches. I think this one is a 10/10 for me. It may not be technically  perfect, it may not develop all characters equally, and it may have very obvious teenage boy humor, but it's genuinely good, and the flaws don't detract from its story, as they're not distractingly obvious, in my opinion.
Some of my favorite details from this series would have to be: getting to see into the philosophies of other teams, and the concept of having a "moment", which is introduced during the [Tokyo Expedition Arc] and carries out in real time canon (as in not during a flashback), twice.
My favorite character Arc would have to be Tsukishima's, then Hinata's, in very different ways.
I loved watching Tsukishima question why it mattered so much, and how Bokuto's words stuck with him so clearly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved watching him slowly becomes more entrenched in the sport, taking it more seriously and taking the time to put his effort into training a bit more, asking questions, and even guiding his teammates during matches with his observations. I love how strongly he felt about being pulled from the Shiratorizawa match, and I loved seeing his "moment", and how he couldn't ever go back.

It was genuinely an incredible thing to witness, and I love how that moment stays with him, until he's fighting to win the Inarizaki match with every once of strength and reflex he has, connecting with his team fully.
And I think I really enjoyed watching him become friends with the other first years too, especially Hinata. I felt he truly understood Hinata after he crashed the Shiratorizawa Youth Training Camp, and trusted him during the Inarizaki match.
His quiet moment of realization after the match, where Bokuto's words and his own understanding of what they really meant surfaces again, as he sees that in another person. I just genuinely love it so much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I love Hinata's development, not as his perspective develops (because he was already pretty set, let's be honest), but obviously because of his growth as a player. I love how at first that growth is immature, but quickly becomes more and more intensive and thought focused. He learns from others, constantly challenges himself and others, and then reaches a point where his hunger is greedy and intrusive, forcing him to redirect how he learns and views the court. That experience led him to truly learn how volleyball functions as an entire court, rather than just as a wing spiker, and his ability to not only understand the behaviors of others, but to mimic and retain them alongside his quick reflexes created that "moment" for him later on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could see that entire process in motion and it was awesome. I think it's a fun parallel to Tsukishima, as they came from very different places but still develop a strange admiration and understanding, while retaining everything that made them. I just love it.
And yeah, I really liked Kageyama's development too. I think it was very realistic in how he slipped back into bad habits after the All-Japan Youth Camp, but also was quick to recognize that he might be doing so, despite his criticisms being necessary to communicate to his team. We can see how deeply that match in junior high cuts him, and I love that he's with a team that allows him to grow from that, without being left alone. Hinata shows him this in the most obvious, simple way, but the entire team steps into that and it results in a Karasuno that functions much more like a unit.
I just, genuinely love this series and enjoyed the entire process.

Im not very athletic and im not a big fan of sports but I love to go roller and ice skating. I also love to read books and to also cook and bake food. I also like to garden. I've been playing the violin for 7 years. I love animals and im planing on becoming a wildlife veterinarian. I like to Watch nature/animal documentaries. I also like sweets. Somethings I dislike are people who bend or ruin my books and people who speak over me when im trying to talk.I love music, I can listen to any genre and like it but my favorites are indie, bedroom pop and classic rock. My ideal relationship would be with someone who is loyal and supportive. sorry if i spelt anything wrong. Hope im not bothering you:)
first of all, gurl, you are not bothering me, i opened these for a reason! BUT I HAVE THE PERFECT MAN FOR YOU DEAR! it took me a while tho ngl. i was really thinkin between some people. you are just a sweet soul and i needed the perfect man for you and BAM! it clicked! so here you go @armin-ocean-eyes!
the character I chose for you is...
SUGAWARA!
Tumblr media
OMG THIS GIF I ALMOST PASSED AWAY
#jealous of you and your adorable and beautiful man
anyways
you and suga would be perfect
sure, he loves volleyball, but he doenst mind that you're not that into sports
he sucks at anything music related, so he thinks it's awesome that you can play the violin, but other than that, he's not the interested in it
you will always support each other though
its adorable
he loves hanging out in your beautiful room and he will always bake you sweet treats before he comes over
he is in awe at how gorgeous everything you have in your life is (including you, beauty <3)
he LOVES that you garden and insists on having you teach him how, he thinks it's awesome
y'all will do homework while having nature documentaries or soft music on in the background
he will 100% visit shelters with you as dates and you both volunteer to help take care of the animals
he will 100% bake with you
and ice skate with you
he is literally the perfect man for you omg
and he's kinda shy and adorable like you omg i cant get over this matchup!!!
You felt something press on your forehead and looked up to find it was your boyfriend, Sugawara, who had placed a small kiss onto you.
"Hey Suga!" You smiled and packed your book into your bag. Only three more chapters and you would be done. "Ready to go?"
You would always wait for Sugawara to be done with practice. Sitting outside and reading a book was one of the best feelings in the world, so any excuse to do that was perfect.
"I am. How's the book?" He lightly put his arm around you and pressed a kiss onto your cheek while Nishinoya and Tanaka were giggling behind the both of you. You two just ignored it however, as it was now a usual thing.
"It's amazing! Only three more chapters!" You couldn't help but still blush around Sugawara. He was just so cute. And he was your boyfriend?? It was truly amazing.
"Already? Dang, you're a fast reader!"
You giggled and melted to your boyfriend's touch. You were excited to go out for dinner. You two didn't do it too often, so it was always fun when you did.
"How was practice?" You picked a fuzz off of Suga's jacket and pressed a kiss onto his jaw, having to tippy toe to reach him.
"It was good. Tiring though."
"I bet. Now dinner sounds even better, huh?"
"Always with you." He pulled you in for a hug, stopping the walk for a minute. "I love you."
"I love you too, Suga."

BELLEEEEEE!!!!! I’ve missed you so much 😭😭😭😭😭!!!!! Typing this as I’m sitting in my car after getting out of my last class. FINALS. ARE. FINALLY. OVER. And I passed all my classes with As!!!! Final exams went really well too!!! I feel like I’m gonna fall and pass out for 12 hours. Which I actually did yesterday because I had finished all my exams/classes but I had one more class to go to today.
BUT ENOUGH ABT ME HOW ARE YOU MY DEAR SWEET BLUE PUNK FAIRY FRIEND??? Have you been eating and drinking water?? Resting??? Taking breaks??? Isabelle. If you haven’t. *gently bonks head* Oliver would reprimand you too yknow? And not the fun bedroom scolding. TAKE BREAKS LOVE!!!! 😭😭❤️ Taking regular breaks is a responsibility to yourself that everyone forgets sometimes when they get lost in all their other responsibilities. Multitasking writing different works too much can cause headaches, speaking from experience sweetheart. And going to the gym is great but your body needs to relax and rest too. Water and a good meal and a hot shower/bath do wonders after a long session do wonders trust me. So please rest okay?
CONGRATULATIONS ON 1.6K 🎉✨🥳!!!! The numbers keep climbing so fast and all these milestones are amazing!!!! I’m so proud of you love 🥹✨❤️!!!
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHOS WATCHED KUROKO NO BASKET. Seriously the fandom is almost completely dead 😭😭💀. I knew it was a oldie but a goody but I didn’t think it was dust and tumbleweeds out here 😭😭. So glad you like it too!! Haikyuu will always be my favorite sports anime and one of my top favorites in general, it holds a really special place in my heart, but KnB was still a really fun watch.
ASFKKFFKJFHKHJG. THAT OLVER ART. Pls he’d hate getting out of bed and just become a complete octopus in the mornings. You gotta wake him up for practice and it’s such a chore. He’s such a big baby pshhhh. But there are some upsides like him saying the only way he’s gonna get up is if you place exactly 100 kisses all over his face, more than half of them end up being on the lips when he actually starts to get up, and you relent every money with a roll of your eyes and and huff and a fond smile he misses cause his eyes are closed. The first thing you do is wipe off that smug smirk from his face. Also hc that Oliver is actually really ticklish and it’s your weapon. Don’t get up even after the kisses? His sides are looking very open rn. Wont get off after flopping on you on the couch? You’re in the perfect position to reach his armpits. Wont stop clinging to you while you’re trying to do a new eye makeup style for your guys’ date? His neck is literally wide open cause he loves smushing his face into the crook of your neck.
What video? Did you post it on your other account? Because I couldn’t find it. Dangit I wanted to simp for Oliver too 😭😭.
Seriously I’m an introvert what are you gonna do? Lock me inside your house? Great free access to your clothes. Still me seeing friends? What friends babe? Take me everywhere with you? Nice let me grab my book and coffee and we’re good to go. Adjkgfhnjhhhv 💀💀.
That girl shoving into you was so rude. All it takes is a simple excuse me dude. And ISTG PEOPLE WHO SPOIL THINGS WHEN NO ONE ASKED 😤😤😤. They seriously piss me off and ruin the experience. See it’s different when I intentionally spoil myself because I’m too impatient. Someone else doing it? Oh heck no. Its the same feeling as someone taking the last of your favorite snack from the vending machine.
Also just a heads up. I’m gonna sending in multiple asks cause there’s just too much I wanna talk abt and breaking it into parts sounds better. So this is the first one. *sends aggressive virtual hugs that feel like they squish all the exhaustion out of you*

Starry! Omg- All As! That's great! And it's a good thing you took rest too- ik that i'm bout to pass out when i finish exams. I hope you're doing alright tho! Sorry it took me long to get to your ask; tumblr is being weird cause i can only see it when i get on my pc... and not on the app. yeah no I'm moving to ao3. i saw the rb of which character i would interpret the best and you said- Oliver Ofc. he's my husband but he doesn't know it yet ૮꒰ ˶> ༝ <˶꒱ა Well, I've been doing pretty good! I finished a jar of nutella (in 2 days) and i'm planning to buy a bigger one; i did drink a lot of water, ate some pasta, taking rest too made a wedding playlist for me and aiku and lowkey enjoyed it *the way i laughed when i saw : And not the fun bedroom scolding.' I'd like to see Oliver reprimand me (truth : he can't. Cause he knows at the end of the day even if he's bigger and stronger than me, he is gonna be beneath me) but yeah he'd probably say something like "you're gonna get sick, doorbell." But yeah i've been taking rest, dw starry! i'm actually giving myself a treat. with ao3 i can take things slow and easy tbh, which is another reason i'm moving there. The blog will be up ofc; to answer asks and for anons who wanna talk to me abt my work, but yeah my activity on ao3 is gonna be very irregular... THANK YOU!! 1.6k is such a big number, past me would have been like 'huh... never thought i'd make it this far.' BUT YEAH I DID ! T.T But actually it’s you guys who got me there so thank you everyone 💓
I think everyone thought that they were the only ones who watched knb; me included. I used to have the BIGGEST crush on aomine, i even found an asmr of his. (and yeah i do listen to asmrs btw) And yeah the fandom is almost dead (。 ́︿ ̀。) and I didn’t even get to read that many aomine works too…but yeah I really liked that anime! Haikyuu made me cry after clannad and also made me laugh the hardest, does hold a special place in my heart as well, Bokuto was my fav and rn… no one really. I like all of them cause they’re so unique yk?
As for the Oliver art, pretty sure he would hold you down to the bed. He would demand kisses! He is such a smooth talker- but since I’m me. When he expects a kiss *places hand on his lips before you kiss* “good morning. It’s time to get up” and he just groans when you have a tiny smirk and walk out of your shared bedroom, and his brain just going ‘god woman. You’re gonna be the death of me.’
How- I think I’m getting too predictable with my writing cause I do have something to do with eye makeup in Ocean hues… 👁️ *but we don’t talk abt that cause no spoilers!*
The video! Starry. I BLEW A FUSE CAUSE OF THAT REEL. so story time, I was checking my insta in the morning after I woke up and this gym based reel popped on my feed. And the moment I saw it - I thought of Oliver. Like alright fineeeee this is a guy Idek on the internet just doing his own thing and posting fitness reels but his body. IT LOOKED. LIKE. OLIVER. AND HIS HAIR WAS LIKE AIKU’S TOO! I’m not even joking - The shaggy hair down at the back minus the green highlights - it’s like the way I imagined Oliver’s body to be like. And- I really wasn’t expecting to see THAT in the morning. So it was a really great start to my day- and I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a whole day so I had to save it. I posted the link for a bit so that blue (💙 anon) and other Aikuists could check it out and we were just fawning over this guy. I took the link down soon after cause I didn’t want anyone reblogging it and creating chaos. I’ll put the link again and take it down in 10 mins. I’m telling you though. IT. WAS. FUCKING. HOT. (i'll be putting up the link in a bit and taking it down too you should totally take a look at it- cause the content is not mine neither do i know the guy but FUCK. THAT LOOKED LIKE OLIVER.) The free access to clothes 😭 Happy relationship = yandere bf + a very introverted partner oliver stealing my oversized clothes in the corner I'm an introverted person as well introverted enough to terrify a yandere as well istg- idk who that was, but it was rude to push shove someone and not apologize for it or even an excuse me. and the girl who spoiled wednesday, never saw her again. i get that someone's enthusiastic about a show, but at the same time... some consideration for people around you 😭 anyway, that times gone and i got a lot of better things to move onto like movies, working out and just overall, making myself happy and having a good day yk? *Sending hugs back*

Hi....Can I ask your top 10 favorite anime ever (can be series or movies)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
ahh what a difficult question to answer!! i wouldn't say this is in any real particular order and there's probably stuff i'm forgetting, but here we go
run with the wind - all about the power of love (in every form) and the importance of human connection. there's this post i wrote about it that i frequently quote when describing/pitching it to other people: "the concept of no longer running away, but running to something, because any hardship can be endured when you know someone is always waiting for you at the finish line"
march comes in like a lion - excellent storytelling with a wonderful cast of characters and refreshing take on mental health/grief (found family to the max!)
spirited away - a classic that is probably on everyone's list. what you take away from it changes with every rewatch/as you get older, which i think is what makes it super special. it's just a really beautiful film
haikyuu - tends to get a bad rep as being just a "sports anime that only girls like" but is genuinely an incredibly well written story that will power you through ANYTHING (and i say this as someone who has read it while going through some really tough times)
mob psycho - there's so much i could say about this but it's a masterpiece and means everything to me. slice of life meets espers and existentialism + the bastard man to end all bastard men, reigen arataka
86 - probably the highest production quality i've ever witnessed from an anime. better than /aot in every way and deserves more hype. i tell everyone i meet to watch it
horimiya - may be my favorite shoujo romcom. far from perfect but the core friend group is realistic, funny, and wonderful. wish it got a second season
my hero academia - again, another animanga with an extremely bad rep, but really does deserve some recognition! pure shounen with an interesting take on a common trope (superheroes). i love class 1a with all my heart
golden kamuy - i haven't finished watching this just yet but it is an absolute gem and covers ainu history/culture, which is cool!
fullmetal alchemist brotherhood - isn't called the greatest shounen of all time for nothing

i want to hear your ship hot takes, feel free to ramble about them here!
I will limit this to 5
Tumblr media
Ships, where one of the characters has very little development going on outside of their relationship with the other char, get boring really quickly even when the dynamic between the chars is nice. The main ones I can think of are Ranpoe and Bachisagi, they're both ships I really liked at the start and now find only slightly more interesting than watching paint dry. In Ranpoe's case, the problem comes from Poe being a minor character whereas Ranpo is a major character, so Poe is never really gonna get much development for any other possible relationships he could have. For Bachisagi, the problem started after the 2nd selection ended where Bachira basically got demoted to a minor character whose only deep relationship is with Isagi. Bachira clearly has other friends but his other friendships feel so superficial, he's never allowed to just be alone with one of them for an entire scene (the closest he got was Rin and that ended up being forgotten too). I can say more about Bachira's relationship with Lavinho than his friendship with Chigiri, even though he's known Chigiri for way longer and likes him enough to hang out with him while not needing Isagi to be there. I just really need both characters to be fully fleshed out in situations where they're not with each other, especially when they're major characters.
Reki x Langa is the only best friends ship in a sports anime that I love. In some cases, the bromance is so good that making it romantic kinda ruins it for me (Kuroko and Kagami, Hinata and Kageyama...) and even when it's not an amazing bromance, making it romantic still kinda ruins it for me. But for some reason, Ranga just avoids being ruined when romantic, idk why.
Continuing with the sports anime and best friends theme, I always hate the lazy guy x his best friend. Every single time, it doesn't matter what, it is a canon event and I can't stop it. Heck, even when the lazy guy is actually just faking laziness like Tsukishima in Haikyuu, that ain't stopping that 100% hate rate.
Ships, where both characters have a perfect relationship, are the most boring ones, especially when the only conflicts in their relationship are purely caused by external factors. Like Eliwood x Ninian from FE7 is so goddamn boring. If you were to put them in a modern AU with 0 fantasy/magic, there would be literally nothing of interest going on. If I can't put a ship in a mundane modern AU without it becoming uninteresting, it's just not a good ship to me. Purely fluffy ships are cute for a while but they get old so fast if there's no source of inner conflict. You can have two ships with similar dynamics and the one with inner conflict will always be more interesting to me. The inner conflict doesn't need to always have to result in the characters fighting btw, it's usually just the most entertaining form of it. For example, Nagisagi and Kurosagi have similar dynamics on the surface (both being Isagi paired up with a chill guy who doesn't emote much) but Nagisagi has inner conflict whereas Kurosagi is kinda just fluff.
There needs to be more harem where the person with the harem actually dates the entire harem. I've always been a pretty big multishipper and there are times when I've shipped a character with basically every reasonable option possible. But I never really cared to go beyond OT3s. That is until BL got me into harems and I started reading The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You. It's about a dude who keeps dating more and more girls at the same time (Rentarou is a giga chad, he actually loves them all without favoring one over the others and his GFs end up becoming close friends with each other). It's always fun to read fics about everyone loving the fandom bike but the fandom bike only ever loves one back or never chooses. The ones where there is some action with more than one char are usually when the MC kinda plays around with everyone but never fully commits. Like, even in the harem genre, it's a very unexplored dynamic with it usually just being saved for the end as a cop-out to make everyone happy that their best girl is happy with the MC. I need more giga chads who can handle an entire harem. Kill all the Kazuyas and give the world more Rentarous, harem manga writers.

What's this post about? (A feeling, anime, Blue lock, Haikyuu)
.
Does this happen with you?
I like doing things, and once I do something which reaches the peak, like it's good and the best, I casually stop doing those things little by little.
Eg : I love painting, but i created one absolutely perfect beauty and now I paint less and less.
And this happens with many things
And i don't like that, I wanna keep doing those things.
So I was watching Blue lock that day
And Isagi says something around : This cannot end with me scoring a lousy fluke.
And i really resonated with it.
Be it fluke or not, It cannot end with me doing one amazing job. It has to keep on going. Has to? Why? Because I want to create, and i want to do those things, i want to keep doing them.
So, yeah. I really love anime, it evokes such beautiful emotions within me. For real.
When Isagi scored, or stopped the other team from scoring that goal, I got GOOSEBUMPS.
I'm still on episode 8, so no spoilers.
But so far, people kept telling me it's so much better than Haikyuu,
I disagree. Not in the sense that it isn't great, but in the sense that they're both different and they're both great.
I LOVE HAIKYUU. And it is so much more than a sports anime.
And Blue lock, for as much as I've seen, has the spirt and energy but they're different anime, one cannot compare them.
How do I say it?
Blue lock has more of a competitive energy, the hunger, it's there. More about ego. More about creating the hunger to become a best striker, to just be, to goal and to be the best. Whatever the means.
Haikyuu has a more team approach. There's next level competition, amazing competition. It is also has that note of extreme warmth. Like literally. The color scheme, it's warm. The tones throughout the anime, it's sunny. You watch the anime and you feel the rays from the sun touch within you.
Blue lock too has positivity, it's difficult to explain, but their main focus is energy, and the hunger, in my opinion. The tones of the show are blue throughout, energetic blue, the hungry eyes. It's really beautiful.
So all of this is actually to say, that we cannot compare them, they're really beautiful in their own way, i love them so much. So when you ask me if i like Haikyuu or Blue lock, I'll tell you I love them both. But Haikyuu is something which will always, and forever have a special place within me. The warmth it brings me, it makes me smile throughout. I need that. And when I was at my lowest, it was that warmth which pulled me out. Unburdened me from shackles. And so, yes i love them both. I would not compare them because they cannot be compared because they're different. But i love them.
