AI isn't ok. Opting out of this can't prevent all of your work from being used in AI training but it can help. You deserve to not have your work stolen and so do others. AI is stolen work. Don't support it.

So .... This is really freaky
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Tumblr's notice of cookie use I just got on the Android app.
The wording for declining consent to sharing information to advertisers is intentionally confusing and tricky. "Use the corresponding toggle [to decline us giving info to advertisers without your consent]."
This isn't clear to me - do I check the box to say no? Or does that say yes? I experimented with checking the boxes for the "purposes," which gave me this minus sign. When I went into the "Partners" section, most of them had been selected, but not all. I had to manually tap the check box next to each partner left unchecked to get this minus sign to stay. When I did "Select all" to check the boxes for the partners, the minus sign changed to a check.
Does anyone with knowledge about how to protect my privacy on Tumblr know what to do here?
The Privacy Policy is legitimately scary and shitty. They take our location info without consent. Freaky!!

From instructions on how to opt out, look at the official staff post on the topic. It also gives more information on Tumblr's new policies. If you are opting out, remember to opt out each separate blog individually.
Please reblog this post, so it will get more votes!

So tumblr has now rolled lives for my account too and reading their rules..
Tumblr media
MIDDLE FINGER IS BANNED I REPEAT DO NOT FLIP THE BIRD on live IT IS VERY VERY BAD IT IS LITERALLY SAME AS IF YOU GOT FULLY NAKED AND WOOP WOOP HANKY PANKY BOJOINK WITH AN EQUALLY NUDE PARTNER ON THE STREAM I REPEAT HIDE YOUR MIDDLE FINGERS PUT THEM AWAY PUT THEN AWAY NOW A CHILD COULD SEE AN OBSCENE FINGER ON TUNGLR DOT COM
I realized from lot of tags and comments lot of you are unaware that the underlying issue is BIGGER than just tumblr. I even skipped the part about dress code bc its the same on every app now, nothing special unfortunately, the middle FINGER was news. you just never read the ToS and the reason is US LAWS, Credit card company monopoly, advertisers wanting everything to be "family friendly" etc and things are only going to get worse if you don't start opposing and repeling the torjan horse laws. Here, let's have someone who knows better explain it:

(Edit 2: Closing replies for this and muting the post, if you have issues just leave a message in my PM's, I promise you it'll be my pleasure to (try to) help.)
Good news, the ReVanced project (of YouTube ReVanced fame) has added Tumblr patches to their arsenal, so not only can you patch YouTube with it now, but also Tumblr (and more, even). This can let you remove ads from the Tumblr app, and even nuke Tumblr Live.
Grab the ReVanced Manager and give it a shot. Android only, sorry.
Edit, FAQ:
Disable Play Protect in the Google Play store, it's useless anyways.
You don't need to update your app to the newest version, pick an APK of any Tumblr version you want and patch that. Not all will work, but just keep trying different versions if so.
For the old layout and the ability to go directly to previous reblogs, patch an APK of this version: 29.7.0.110
For users without root access, you need to find an APK for the Tumblr app (a version of it of your choice), then uninstall Tumblr from your device, THEN use the patcher, and install it when prompted.
Do not download "split", "bundle", or "xapk" when given the choice.
You don't need MicroG unless you want to use non-root patched YouTube.

Hey, PSA:
On your phone, go to Settings> Security and Privacy> Privacy> Other Privacy Settings> Ads> Delete Advertising ID
Then go back to Other Privacy Settings> Google location history> Turn off Location History &/or Turn-on Auto-Delete (you can set a time period of how long to keep it)
Then, staying on Other Privacy Settings, go to '+ See all activity controls'> Web & App activity> Turn off (you can also turn-on Auto-Delete for here too)
Then Scroll down to Personalized ads> My Ad Center> Turn Off Personalized Ads.
Google has no business knowing/storing everything you do online, and knowing/storing where you go everyday. Turn it off.
These instructions are for an Android phone, IOS might be different. If you have IOS or another operating system feel free to add on with your own map to where they've buried these settings in your phone to help others.

Tumblr is Tracking Shared Links
It looks like Tumblr @staff have finally implemented tracking garbage into shared links in the Tumblr mobile app. It took them years and years, but Tumblr is finally making an attempt to track shared links you click or links you share with friends.
When you share a post and choose to “copy” a link to your clipboard, you can see that they use their (new?) url shortener, at.tumblr.com.  The shortened URL appears to contain: your blog name; either the ID of the destination post, or the short string associated with the post; and an alphanumeric string.  Eg:
https://at.tumblr.com/pizza-and-ramen/im-fucking-dying-this-is-hilarious/uqndb20nkyob
The shortened URL redirects you to the destination link, but with 2 URL parameters: _branch_referrer and _branch_match_id.  Both are associated with a third-party analytics tool, branch.io.  Eg:
https://pizza-and-ramen.tumblr.com/post/118684413624/im-fucking-dying-this-is-hilarious?_branch_referrer=H4sIAAAAAAAAAxXEwQ2AIAwAwIlKH8aP21RQaaSAUIIyvZpczqvmuiCSGm2yhmJsEsw8BgFFB4Vki8gCe7MnxwPc86%2BeK3w8ByqcWsU7jHnql0u99xd0v%2FAuVQAAAA%3D%3D&_branch_match_id=1104914739086906151
_branch_referrer appears to be another shortened at.tumblr.com URL, except it’s been gzipped, base64 encoded, then URL encoded.  Eg:
H4sIAAAAAAAAAxXEwQ2AIAwAwIlKH8aP21RQaaSAUIIyvZpczqvmuiCSGm2yhmJsEsw8BgFFB4Vki8gCe7MnxwPc86%2BeK3w8ByqcWsU7jHnql0u99xd0v%2FAuVQAAAA%3D%3D
URL decode to:
H4sIAAAAAAAAAxXEwQ2AIAwAwIlKH8aP21RQaaSAUIIyvZpczqvmuiCSGm2yhmJsEsw8BgFFB4Vki8gCe7MnxwPc86+eK3w8ByqcWsU7jHnql0u99xd0v/AuVQAAAA==
base64 decode to (in hex for legibility):
1F8B0800 00000000 000315C4 C10D8020 0C00C089 4A1FC68F DB545069 A4805082 32BD9A5C CEABE6BA 20921A6D B286626C 12CC3C06 01450785 648BC802 7BB327C7 03DCF3AF 9E2B7C3C 072A9C5A C53B8C79 EA974BBD F71774BF F02E5500 0000
and unzipped with gunzip:
https://at.tumblr.com/pizza-and-ramen/im-fucking-dying-this-is-hilarious/xlz53wqdowww
which directs to the post with the same _branch_referrer but a new _branch_match_id:
https://pizza-and-ramen.tumblr.com/post/118684413624/im-fucking-dying-this-is-hilarious?_branch_match_id=1104899685865808870&_branch_referrer=H4sIAAAAAAAAAxXEwQ2AIAwAwIlKH8aP21RQaaSAUIIyvZpczqvmuiCSGm2yhmJsEsw8BgFFB4Vki8gCe7MnxwPc86%2BeK3w8ByqcWsU7jHnql0u99xd0v%2FAuVQAAAA%3D%3D
_branch_match_id, according to this stackoverflow answer, is an identifier unique to you, used to track users.  It could be based on browser fingerprinting, as branch.io’s branch_match_id is.
Anyway, there’s not a terribly easy way to avoid this tracking from the Tumblr mobile app, but if you get a link that has the id, not the string, you can modify it to the format of blog.tumblr.com/ID, like so before sending it to a friend:
https://at.tumblr.com/pizza-and-ramen/118684413624/uqndb20nkyob
https://pizza-and-ramen.tumblr.com/118684413624
Alternately, you could paste the link in your browser, allow it to redirect, then remove everything past the ? at the end, eg:
https://pizza-and-ramen.tumblr.com/post/118684413624/im-fucking-dying-this-is-hilarious?_branch_referrer=H4sIAAAAAAAAAxXEwQ2AIAwAwIlKH8aP21RQaaSAUIIyvZpczqvmuiCSGm2yhmJsEsw8BgFFB4Vki8gCe7MnxwPc86%2BeK3w8ByqcWsU7jHnql0u99xd0v%2FAuVQAAAA%3D%3D&_branch_match_id=1104914739086906151
https://pizza-and-ramen.tumblr.com/post/118684413624/im-fucking-dying-this-is-hilarious
Anyway, this has been my privacy rant of the day.  Thanks for reading, and let me know if you know more about this than I do!

So, Tumblr is doing another new thing, and you may want to make your Likes private.
On my dash, I've started seeing posts with a header that says "Liked by [username of someone I follow]."
So far via this new feature, I have learned that various people I follow are fans of spicy queer photography, rpf, and some controversial opinions. Which is hardly surprising on tumblr dot com, but I haven't seen some of those people reblog such content in the past, so I didn't know that about them previously. (All these folks have their Likes publicly available, so I could in theory have browsed the posts they liked before. But to me, there's a difference between having Likes visible when people go looking for them vs. having them publicized on followers' dashes.)
If you don't like the idea of your liked posts showing up on followers' dashboards with your name at the top, you can change your settings so your Likes are private.
On mobile, open up your settings and click "Pages:"
Tumblr media
Then make sure that sharing is turned off for Likes:
Tumblr media
You can also send feedback to Tumblr.

I didn't know about KOSA until today so I'm trying to help spread the word too
KOSA stands for Kids Online Safety Act and by wording of the bill would give state attorney generals the power to sue and ban websites that have content that is "harmful and explicit" which is stated in the bill. Sites that would be attacked would be Twitter, A03, Tumblr, Tiktok, and many more and the people that made this bill and are pushing for it have clearly come out to say that they will be using this to ban trans and LGBTQ+ content. They are pushing it as protecting kids online and helping to prevent eating disorders but in reality, it is to censor people and continue the attack on trans and queer people and children. The sponsors of this bill are publically homophobic and transphobic and these same people and offices are also co-sponsoring the Restrict Act.
Tumblr media
If any site has any type of content that contains queer themes, state attorney generals will have the power to take them down.
Tumblr media
Over 100 LGBTQ+ and human organizations expressed concern over this bill that was originally brought up last year and they have repeatedly said that their concerns have not been addressed. They are being actively ignored by the offices that are writing this bill.
Tumblr media
This person on Tiktok explains it all very well
And this is her link tree for petitions and to explain
This is a very important topic and is not getting enough attention. This bill threatens LGBTQ+ and trans children and Republican offices are ignoring organizations that say it's a bad bill. We are on a very slippery slope regarding LGBTQ+ issues
If you can, please reblog. We need to spread the word about this bill
