“You Look Amazing”

Tonight, self-care was a boudoir photo shoot, courtesy of Sarah Haugen. One of my paramours has been asking for spicy photos for two decades and I was never comfortable with them existing, let alone distributing them. He remains one of the few I’d trust with any, and we’ve often discussed over the years a film-based photo shoot (no digital photos!!).

I’m still not necessarily going to share them with anyone (despite the distressingly full “hidden” album on my phone) but I looked at them and saw someone sexy. And that’s new for me.

Some of her guides start with a disclaimer:

I mostly think about things I like about the people I love, but when one of them insists you make a list, you make the dang list!

1. My sense of humor. I’m real silly and clever and making people laugh is one of my favorite things in life.

2. My laugh. I like it. I like when it’s a high pitched giggle, a cackle, an involuntary “Ha!” deeper than I intend, all of them. Laughing and crying are animal sounds that exist beyond standard spoken languages and I love that.

3. My curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. I’d be a professional student if my country would still allow me and my kids to have access to basic resources without income.

4. My passion for justice and equity. I’m chaotic good, but my moral compass doesn’t fuck around. This really dovetails with number 5.

5. My intention to engage with the world with Lovingkindness. I truly want my life to help ease the suffering of others. I love my friends deeply and forgive quickly. I want to be vulnerable so that others might feel safer. I love you, too! 💕

Bonus: I like my eyes and my freckles, but my body is mostly a source of disappointment. (My list of wants and wishes is mind-numbing and disgustingly egotistical. Our society has taught me that I will never be pretty and I have learned through lived experience to believe that)
