everything you need to make your own personal beauty binder 🎀
disclaimer: this post is heavily inspired by @tomb-of-ligeia and @daphne-dauphinoise, and early 2010s beauty youtubers. it’s always kind to credit your inspo <3
inspired by the lookbooks and makeup charts used by makeup artists designers at high fashion runways shows and childhood bratz coloring and activity books. the law of attraction is at use heavily with this binder (writing down goals and wishlists)!
you should be keeping diy recipes you find in here.
*you don’t need a physical binder. some people function better with digital mediums. i prefer anything physical and concrete. but you can do all this in something like a notion, or your notes app, etc.
why? 🎀
a cute girly hobby (esp for type A, anal retentive, or analytical personalities/extremely creative, hands on people) to keep track of your routines, motivate you to keep yourself maintained, and figure out what works best for you. it’s nothing too serious, just a girly pastime for people that maybe buy too many products, slip up on routines, or don’t what looks best on your features. have fun!
what to record in your binder? 🎀
an intro sheet 10 different topics divided by tabbed sections: your personal features, makeup, body, fashion, skincare, hair, fragrance, nails, treatments/procedures, salons/spas/referrals/contacts 🎀
intro sheet 🎀
here, you should keep your goals, desired look, and how you want to perceive yourself.
your personal features
a chart of your color season. mine is cool winter. you can use color season for whatever, i choose to apply it to my makeup.
your natural body shape. this will help you choose the best clothes to flatter your silhouette.
a close up, unfiltered clear photo of your bare face. note your skin type, color, undertone, and any other things that stand out to you.
note what you wanna enhance and what you wanna improve. this will help throughout your binder.
makeup
put on a light layer of every lipstick/lip gloss/etc. you have and make kiss shaped swatches in your binder. note the shade, brand, and finish. then the mood/occasion in which you’d wear it.
swatch all your lip liners, again leaving the details of the product.
swatch your foundation shades. note the finish, name and brand.
make a sheet dedicated to all your “holy grail”, essential products.
swatch your eyeshadow palettes. i have all my shimmer pigments swatches and it’s the prettiest thing to look at.
do you have any go to makeup looks? your casual look, going out look, no makeup makeup look, etc.? do these looks and take high quality pics. make personalized face charts by printing them out and noting the steps and products you used.
take c*nty pics of your lashes after trying on all your mascaras/falsies. note the effects and when you would be most likely to wear them.
print out any pics of interesting makeup looks and products you wanna try.
try on lip combos and kiss swatch them. i’m doing this because i do amazing lip combos all the time but i forget which products i used, and it’s hard to replicate the look.
body
take a stick figure-esque picture of yourself and print it out. any outfit you want to buy, print and clip it out first and see if it’s something you’d wear and actually like.
are you experiencing any skin issues on your body and trying any products? keep track of the issue and how the products are doing.
if you don’t already have one, brainstorm workout routines and general wellness/fitness goals.
what are your fav body products? what products did you buy, and hate? TRACK THEM!
any detoxes/diets you’re doing should be recorded in this section.
record “beauty enhancing” foods and drinks here. mine include matcha, lemon water and acv shots.
fashion
outfit planning! take pics of pieces you already have and clip them out. (i’m doing this currently and keeping them all in a little pocket in my binder).
make a moodboard of your personal style(s). how do you want your closet to look? try to see what details, colors, additions are consistent throughout. when shopping, these are what you should keep track of.
print out your signature clothing color palette if you want to have one.
dedicate a page to accessories you have/want, and how you’d style them.
*this can be expensive but the fashion girls will prob love this* go to the fabric store and buy little swatches that you like. take note of what the fabric is and why you like it.
dedicate a page to all your signature details. all the little specific things that scream YOU and NO ONE else! that means do not write pink, girly, etc. here. that is not exclusive to you, hun.
skincare
take a current filter free photo (make it glam! tie your hair up in a ballerina bun and put on some cute earrings) of the state of your skin. if your skin is perfect, i’m jealous and how does it feel to be god’s fav? if not what problems are you experiencing?
log your current skincare routines and how they’re working.
make a page for your skin type, how it feels when you wake up and how it feels and looks by the end of the day and research tips to deal with your personal skin type.
skincare wishlist! list any products you wanna try and what they are for. sample them from ulta or sephora if it’s possible.
dedicate a page to the skincare ingredients your skin loves the MOST! mine are retinol, bha, and vitamin c.
i have a page for all the extra cute little skincare devices i want. on it there’s a stainless steel gua sha, an ice pack, facial steamer, and pink foreo.
hair
what’s your hair type, density, porosity and curl pattern?
write down any hair goals you have. mine is frizz free tailbone length caramel brown hair with honey blonde highlights by the end of this year.
what’s your signature hairstyle? do you have a signature? brainstorm here.
clip out hairstyle inspo from pinterest and insta and try to recreate all the looks!
what are your fav hair products? i keep track of the best curling creams and leave in conditioners for my hair personally.
take note of any trending products you wanna try.
fragrance
make a moodboard of how you wanna smell. after this, research notes and how they work together.
now track your fav perfumes, your most complimented, etc.
note what fragrances go with what occasion and how they make you feel.
make your perfume wishlist! my fav part!
nails
swatch all your polishes. label them and their finish.
what’s your signature/go to nail look?
do you have any pics of your fav mani + pedis? print them out and write the details you loved the most.
write down your at home mani and pedi routine and it’s frequency.
write your fav colors and styles to wear on your nails. mine are glittery pink, pale pink, white, cream, french tip and pink frenchie. a hyper girly twist on the classics.
treatments/procedures
take note of any surgeries or procedures you want done and what they do.
anything you leave the house to have done regularly, keep track here.
don’t limit yourself! forget your budget! what are some high maintenance treatments you wanna experience? manifest it.
references
write down the sources of which you find great info for beauty and fashion
keep addresses of your fav salons and spas.
keep business contacts of your fav estheticians, stylists, nail techs, etc.

So today I just drew a whole page of my old character Vanilla Powder Cookie
I was on the page with Snow Fungus, and one of the characters there was Vanilla Powder, with her design seen in the top left there. I was looking at it, and I was like “I’m not sure it makes her look like a proper small child”, and since I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a character look distinctly like a child, I decided to redraw her on a new page just for her
And surprisingly, for once I actually finished one of these
So now I feel like listing some things about her, some of which isn’t exactly new, but I still feel like reiterating
So as you can tell, she’s Pure Vanilla’s daughter, one that he had before he got his Soul Jam and his kingdom was founded. She was a baby or toddler when it was founded, so she spent almost her entire life as the Vanillian princess. In addition, she’s the direct ancestor of the Custard family (though I don’t know what her kid’s name would be). However, she unfortunately is not around during current day, as she was baked up to a thousand years prior to current day, so she crumbled a long time ago. Though she lived a long life and simply died of old age, so things didn’t go that bad for her
Oh, also I feel like I should show the original version of Vanilla Powder, just for posterity
She looks entirely different, I think for the better
The younger version of her is mostly just based on the previous version, with an entirely new outfit. I feel like the outfit looks closer to something a kid would wear, but I’m not sure
Then I decided to finally give her a proper adult redesign, and I think I did quite well, much better than the original
I mostly used this one picture from a development commentary for her outfits
Her three cones were because I wanted to convey her status as the princess in some way. They were originally all next to each other, but I felt like they didn’t look particularly special like that, so I instead but the side two further down on her head. But then they reminded me more of hair clips like what Saiki K has, so now I’ve decided they’re possibly magic things that help her control her magic. And also they come off when she uses it. She probably got them as a teenager
Also her eyes are now brown since it fit better with vanilla extract (aka what I think Pure Vanilla is supposed to be), and also because while she’s the Custard ancestor, she’s from long before them, so she doesn’t have to keep the same blue eye color as them. Also, I’ve now decided that Vanilla Bean, aka my OC that’s Vanilla’s dad, has brown eyes. Though I do wonder if I should have given her blue eyes, to break up all the browns and yellows. That’s what the blue on the page is for
Edit: so I ended up changing her eyes to that blue. It’s not PV’s blue because I didn’t really think his light blue works on her. I think it looks nice
Also in her original design, she was going to have a design that looked ambiguously like she could be a purelily kid, but by this point she’s mostly just based on Pure Vanilla, the hair style’s really the only thing somewhat similar to White Lily

So I always wanted a Reverse Stobotnik AU but everytime I see things of it, it never really fits what I want. They either don't change anything about them now that they've switched positions or they take the other person's personality. With this, I have decided to take a crack at it and try to design them how I see them. Here are some designs I have for Stone.
I am currently having a dilemma on what he should wear. I will go into more detail about this AU later but for now, I need some help. I can't pick which one is best or if any of them really capture the image of what I want.
I want something fun. I think Stone is more into emotions and manipulates them and overall just seems pretty nice and happy but is actually very calculated (kind of like the usual Stone without the happy). So I want something bright but not too off putting. But all of this is adjustable and anything could change so I just need help. If you have any recommendations for different color pallettes or maybe a different clothing style, please tell me. I was thinking about adding some gloves. But PLEASE help me as I suck with fashion :') (any ideas for Agent!Robotnik would also be lovely).
I've been sitting on this idea for a while but I was finally pushed to do it after reading "Figuring it Out" on Ao3 by @irenereru and them getting the closest to what I want. The design is also heavily inspired by @cheap-slaw design of Stone after Sonic 2 (fucking lovely art, please go be as obsessed as me).
My best friend, Vicky, already made fun of the khakis so I gotta change those but I will be posting more of these doodles later as well as ideas for the AU. But please, I suck with fashion and need all the help I can get.

Please can I have some advice about making comics, specifically figuring out panel/page layout? Robber/Robert was beautiful and flowed so nicely
(Sorry, I know that’s a big ask, especially busy as you are! I would be grateful for even the smallest nugget of wisdom!)
Hey! I know you're specifically referencing Robber/Robert, but all of the tips I gave in my How To Draw Sakana series still mostly apply to the way I make comics!
I plot out important story beats first (and the ending) and fill in little jokes between those mostly on the fly.
Even though RR is mostly digital (unlike Sakana, which is totally traditional), I still thumbnail RR traditionally because it's easier for me to see the whole page that way, and really get a sense of how big each panel and each element within the panel needs to be. All other details are basically omitted at this point, it's really just figuring out page composition. I also write out the dialogue traditionally. Even if I have a good idea of what I want the characters to say in every panel, trying to come up with exact dialogue later in the process always spells disaster for me. So I try to figure out dialogue and thumbnails at the same time.
The 5 in 5 rule is still what governs my panel/page layouts! I feel like the last [5] rule is worded a little poorly: what I mean is that hands can also add a lot to character acting and should be present as often as possible to avoid having too many "talking heads" panels. Even if a page is dialogue heavy, at least having the character gesture with hands or even do a small task (like make coffee or something) during a conversation or monologue will be more satisfying to read. ALSO, BACKGROUNDS ARE GOOD. I know I'm in the minority of people who LOVE drawing very complicated backgrounds, but even a few little lines or shapes or colors here and there behind a character can keep them present in the environment. I always try to Avoid The Void, but it really depends on how important the setting is to your story. I only draw comics with very specific important settings for some reason lol.
RR is in an American comics format (so roughly 10"x15", which is a 2x3 ratio and can scale down to 6x9 for print.) Again, I think it's important to get as much of a sense of how the page will look in the thumbnail stage as possible, without bogging yourself down with too many details. Often characters will just be pegs with circles for heads (and in Rob's case, two little antenna lines that make him look like a cricket), but where they are and how big they are are most crucial. I'd even suggest thumbnailing two consecutive pages right next to each other so you can really see the flow from one to the next.
The rest of the pages only really apply if you're thinking about doing your comic completely traditional. Penciling, inking, and lettering DON'T need to happen on the same page/paper, but I'm used to that workflow so that's how I do it!
LETTERING IS STILL VERY IMPORTANT THOUGH. I'm sorry to be harsh, but there's nothing worse than bad letters on a great looking comic. If you're not feeling great about your lettering capabilities, I'd suggest taking some time with tutorials and practice to get something that really fits your comic style.
FINALLY, it's important to go out there and find comics that you LIKE and really study what they're doing, how they're doing it, and why it speaks to you. Currently I'm looking at a lot of Franco-Belgian comics, which are bigger than american or manga sizes, and CHOCK FULL of backgrounds usually. Some day I'd like to make something that looks similar, so I'm using every comic project I make as practice to get closer and closer to that style.

The EarthSpark Expedition game came out, and since no one is really talking about it, I’ll toss around my two cents. Spoilers naturally.
So first things first, the game’s placement in the story. I think most of us were going to write it off as an adventure in a micro-continuity that didn’t fit with the show. Well that is thrown out the window. The game takes place after S1, with a small recap in the form of a charming RP game by the kids and Terrans.
The story feels like an epilogue, documenting the aftermath of what happened to Mandroid after his Doomsday Project went kaput. Well, he seemingly survived, though we don’t see him in person until the end of the game, and he’s giving the Doomsday Project another crack with the Energon Activator. This time he requires three relics to power the contraption, so naturally Bee is sent on a mission by Optimus to collect them, with Alex as Bee’s wingman.
The twist however is Mandroid has upgraded his mind control chips, having reprogrammed Skullcruncher, Skywarp, Nova Storm and Grimlock again, but also Optimus Prime, meaning Mandroid was playing 4D Chess to get Bee to essentially do his dirty work for him. It is kind of interesting Manny had to reprogram the jets since they willingly served him before, but then again after trying to obliterate (TERMINATE!) all Cybertronic life it makes sense the femjets wouldn’t want to anymore lol. Poor Grim can’t catch a break, but this time he seems to shrug off the experience, mostly calling it unpleasant. To my surprise, Skullcruncher can talk here. I wonder why he’s largely mute in the show (besides what I assume is budget).
Optimus being mind controlled is interesting. I know EarthSpark sorta dabbled previously, but it’s been fairly rare for Prime to be “charged with Evil” ala Attack of the Autobots. The Last Knight did it too, but well we all know how that went down financially. The point being after years of Prime being sort of rigid and untouchable, in what feels like heavy mandates from Hasbro, it’s refreshing to see some experimental stuff with Optimus again. EarthSpark’s strength with Optimus was returning to the well meaning, dorky sweater vest father figure from G1, and going farther with a AotAutobots/Dark Awakening vibe with Expedition is especially fun. Especially since it was a big defining moment for Bumblebee and Rodimus, so it’s fun to see it homaged here.
I also like the designs of the various henchbots Bee fights in the game. They appear to be generic Transformers, but I forget what their context was in game, but could we get toys of them, Hasbro.
As for Mandroid, when he finally appears in person, the truth is revealed. The Mandroid we’ve been following is an AI backup of his personality made before Doomsday MK1. The original officially died. His current body is a giant misshapen Arachnimech with tv screens bolted to its body to show off his original human face. Inevitably, Mandroid looses and finishing him off, Bumblebee blows a hole in his body with a MegaMan style charged shot. Hashtag says Mandroid likely can’t revive again as the ruins of GHOST HQ, now overgrown with plant life curiously and looking like ancient ruins in a shot amount of time, has really cruddy Wi-Fi, so the AI couldn’t escape into another body. Bee nevertheless seems determined in case Manny DOES return, implying we COULD see him again in S2 in some capacity.
That being said, the vibe I get also feels like Bertram from Family Guy. How he died in show following a botched attempt at killing Stewie via time manipulation, only to return in a Family Guy video game as the main villain picking up where he left off, only to die again with a nonchalant joke about how we’ll never see Bertram again after this.
So 50/50 at Mandroid’s return methinks. For all we know, as of typing, the villains of S2 are COBRA as part of Energon Universe synergy.
Still the story was fun. Definitely very Furman, and kinda nostalgic as a result. The Terrans are all perfectly in character of course. The only thing kinda holding it back is the voice acting, as none of the actors from the show are reprising their roles. Though the actor who played Bee in Netflix WFC reprised the role here, and he’s definitely one of the better actors, when otherwise the acting is a little�� subpar. Way better than WFC and Prime Wars, but having that amateurish feeling from Cyberverse… They give it their all though and they still feel like their characters so that’s good.
As said it feels like an epilogue, though while fun to see Mandroid back at it, it DOES feel a tad repetitive using the same Doomsday weapon but slightly different, and using mostly the same Transformers being “Robo-Smashed”. I feel like you could’ve gotten some cool gameplay using Shockwave, Soundwave (& the Cassettes), Bombshell, Starscream and Hardtop. Personally I’d have liked including some new Transformers, like how the TFP game was built around the Decepticons rebuilding the Unicronian Thunderwing, with him as the final boss. Something like that maybe, only Mandroid has unearthed a Combiner, a friend recommended the Masterforce versions of the Seacons, with the final boss being a Mandroid controlled King Poseidon. Ah well maybe for the sequel then.

Interview with Eric Lide and Angélica María

Solstoria by Angélica María (aka: @charmwitch) and Ozzie the Vampire by Eric Lide (aka: @ericlide) are celebrating their 10th year anniversaries! We're diving into these absolute webcomic legends to learn more about their creative process in a joint interview with María and Lide.
Ozzie the Vampire is a webcomic about a vampire gal named Ozzie and her best friend Kimmy who find themselves protecting the town of Gloomburg, New Jersey, which seems to always find itself under the constant assault of demonic forces from the underworld. Sometimes they even learn something!
Solstoria is follows a girl named Samantha and her brother, Lawrence, who carries the weight of protecting his family on his shoulders. When he goes missing, Samantha embarks on an adventure to become a knight.

It's spooky season, and both of your comics have themes of the supernatural. What kinds of creepy or magical energy do you bring into your comic?
Eric Lide:
I think the demons in Ozzie the Vampire bring the creepy energy for sure. A lot of them have bizarre and impractical anatomy, and they’re pretty enthusiastic about eating people.
Magic is a constant presence in the story as well, mostly through the spells Kimmy and Grimsley use to help Ozzie fight the bad guys.
Angélica María:
To start off, let's talk about the environments! There are certain areas and themes in Solstoria based around my love of Halloween! I'm not from the continental United States, so I've always loved the idea of a spooky air, or of pumpkins and ghosts. The Wayward Lands and Farmlands, two prominent areas spoken about in the story, are themed after the fall season in the United States.
Besides that, witches carry a great importance in the story. They are magically gifted individuals of any gender, who purify the air and specialize in magics that are of help to the greater good of society. A witch is someone who can tame ghosts, calm uneven levels of magic in the city, and provide useful trinkets and charms for the everyday chore. They're just neat! Pointy hats are all the rage, too.
Which character in your comic would survive a horror movie?
EL:
Well Ozzie is more or less immortal, so she could probably sleepwalk her way through any horror movie scenario…
AM:
Oddly enough, I feel like Samantha and Oksana (eventually) have the calmest head on their shoulders. Most of the adults would probably be fine, Huxley would serve as a great merchant in between sanctuaries, but as for the rest…
Actually, who's to say Solstoria isn't secretly horror…
A decade is a long time to be telling a story! Congratulations! How has your comic changed over the course of its publication?
EL:
When I first started out, I was just kind of drawing whatever and not thinking too much about the future. At that time, I was just trying to cram in as many fight scenes or gags as possible. Over the years though, I’ve come to love these characters and I think about them nonstop, so I’ve been writing more scenarios that challenge them on a personal level. There’s even a bit of romance coming up, which would’ve been unthinkable to me ten years ago.
AM:
Thank you so much! I burnt out for a few years, so you can definitely see my art style and narrative changing. I hope it's not... toooooooooo drastic of a change, but I always told myself to experiment on my pages and change things as I saw fit. If you re-read Solstoria, you will simply see my art evolve with no care of consistency. I apologize if this is glaring, but honestly- it's fun!
One of the biggest changes now that I'm working on the story again is that we've swapped protagonists! Currently, we're seeing the story through Lawrence's eyes. Samantha's elder brother is possessed by a crow god, but he still thinks of his family first. Hopefully, they can figure something out together though!
What motivates you to keep going?
EL:
I’ve always been drawing comics since I was very young, so it’s hard to say. I think once a story is in me, it has to come out in some form, even if it takes forever or no one is interested in reading it. That said, comments– audience response of any kind, really– is always a huge boost for me.
Solstoria has an electric 2010s anime flavor. What kind of series inspire you? Do you have any manga or comic recs?
AM:
Oh, I appreciate the comparison, but I wish to counter it- Solstoria is heavily inspired by Japanese RolePlaying Games! Specifically, games created by Capcom, GameArts, Square-Enix, and a few others on top of that! I do have a few anime I quite enjoy, like Princess Tutu formulated my brain intensely. I highly recommend watching this show if you want to experience a masterpiece! If you just want a good time, I also quite like Slayers!
As for video games, I have so many to recommend! I love Fire Emblem, Breath of Fire, Star Ocean, LUNAR, Lufia... and so much more! All of these games are close to my heart, but stylistically, I think the Disgaea series has a lot of visual influence on Solstoria.
Ozzie the Vampire has a cool punk flair that reminds me of webcomics I liked from the 2000s. Where do you draw inspiration from? Do you have any zine or webcomic recommendations?
EL:
Music was a big influence on Ozzie! There’s a lot of references to my favorite punk and metal records throughout the series, some obvious, others not so much. I always wanted the comic to look something like a scrappy punk zine.
I don’t get to read many webcomics these days, but Boxcar City Rush has been a recent favorite.
What can fans of your series look forward to in the coming year?
EL:
More updates, hopefully. This year was a bit sparse due to working on my debut graphic novel, The Champion of Draeland, but I’ve been wrapping that up and eager to dive back into Ozzie. I have many other graphic novels on the way though, so balancing both worlds is going to be an interesting challenge.
AM:
I'm very ahead of schedule, so I hope I can keep the momentum going. We're learning quite a bit about Samantha's brother, Lawrence, but we will also learn soon about another character who is pivotal to both siblings. He's a quiet, gentle person who tries to take on things on his own, and it doesn't go his way.
Also murder. There may be murder.
What is the best way for fans of your series to support you?
EL:

I'm currently writing the next chapter (my uni class got cancelled, so I got loads of free time, lol), and I felt like writing down a little fun fact about revenant AU's origins.
Putting it under read more for those who aren't interested, this is me just rambling lmao
So, my initial idea came from me wanting to combine the MW characters and military setting with my magic system from my original stories (that I never talk about here)
In that idea, Soap was the only one with powers, and he hid them from everyone until an event (that will happen in the fic, so I'm not telling you details) happens, and he has to reveal them to Ghost. From then on they have to work together to hide it, eventually Price and Gaz find out, and slowly they all learn more about the origins of Soap's powers.
Now a little tidbit about how my magic system works, because that's the fun part. So, you have people with powers, called Devoted, who make a deal with a god to get those powers.
The gods choose their Devoted by their personality and lifestyle, and they're extremely rare.
Now obviously you can already tell how the two magic systems align, with Reapers being the gods from my story, and revenants being the Devoted.
So, which gods would align with the 141 revenants?
Soap, because he's the only one with powers directly from the original magic system, is from the God of Chaos, of the skies and space. His powers were just explosion creation, but it was much more extreme than in revenant AU - literally anything that grazes his body could explode, you couldn't even stab him. Revenant Soap has to concentrate more to explode something, it's not as instant anymore. I chose this god for him because of the explosion powers, and because the Devoted of the Chaos god hate authority, and have a strong sense of internal moral compass.
Gaz also fits perfectly to a god, the Goddess of Cosmos, of the earth and wind. The Goddess of Chaos and the God of Cosmos are opposites, and are most lethal to each other. The Devoted of this goddess appreciate life most, and try to find order in disorder, to fix the unfixable. His gravity manipulation and how floating works for him is taken directly from a character I already had, but unlike Gaz she can't make other things float, just herself.
Ghost doesn't have a direct correlation, but because Limbo is basically filled with kinda-dead people, he would be with the God of Death, of humanity and the arts. That god is the kindest to humans, and his Devoted are the most selfless people. It's an interesting thing for Ghost to be out of all people.
Price can fit into both the death god and the Goddess of Reality, of war and pain. I lean towards reality more because Price is able to plant simple ideas in people's mind. The Devoted of the death god can only feel other's emotion, not thoughts, and they can't change them. If he was a Devoted of the goddess of reality, he would have the power to control what other people perceive of reality. The people chosen by this god are often survivors of war and great pain. Make of that what you will for Price.
I didn't introduce the others, and I have a plan for a few more canon campaign characters and their revenant powers to show up in the fic, but what I found interesting is that none of them fit in the Goddess of Life, of animals and plants. Her Devoted is the main character of my original story...
Since I got old art of all the gods I figured I could show you. Just letting y'all know the style I use for this blog is separate from my usual... because I was mainly a painter before.

I intentionally made the Reapers look much different than the gods, like Soap's Reaper is made of a bunch of butterflies. Ghost's reaper would actually easily fit among the gods because it looks more human than the other Reapers...
Okay I just wanted to take a break from writing the chapter I'll go back now lol

Hey, i just read ur first Finding Ur Personal Style post (the shape & silhouette one) and wanted to say i really liked it and how you structured it to rly invite oneself to question not just what looks “good” but what one enjoys and feels confident in. as a person who’s always been on the bigger side, it’s really lovely to see, esp bc im currently trying to more firmly develop my own sense of style.
so yeah, im excited to read the other parts and wanted to give a quick shout of appreciation to u for formulating these posts!
Finding Your Style, Part I: Shape & Silhouette (x)
I'm so glad, thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know!
I'm very aware that as a very slim white guy with an hourglass figure who passes as a man without issue, it's often easier for me to buy clothes that fit with what I want and the figure that I enjoy cutting, but also people are a lot more open with praise for me because I'm a slim, conventionally attractive white guy that can be gender nonconforming and still "pass" as male.
Part of the reason I look so good is I have a particular style that I want and I go for it, and I know how to make a cohesive outfit, but it took me time and study to build those skills, and they were aided by people fully supporting the ways in which I experimented.
Most people have a lot of bigotry they need to get over when it comes to people's clothes and outfits - not just around people's size, whether being fatter or broader, bigger, etc, or other visible aspects such as people's disability, skin colour, race, gender and perceived gender, and so forth.
That comes across in how style guides are written, often with a line of desiring that certain people should hide their bodies or dress themselves down more, and it comes across in how open people are with praise for people's outfits and bodies themselves as well. It's hard to experiment with this stuff without feeling like people are supporting you in that, without feeling like you're not just "allowed" to but like it's good and fun to do so, and it's hard to know where to start with that, you know?
I shop a lot in vintage shops with my boyfriends and with friends who are much bigger than I am or who have very different desires for their figures or style than I would or I do, and I know from working with some of them that like...
Without having someone ask them the questions, it's hard to start, which is why this series of guides is going to be about how to settle on these potential questions and dig into the details that you don't necessarily know how to look for until someone teaches you they're there.
With cooking and with food, you're taught from a very young age that there are different tastes - salty, sweet, umami, sour, and bitter - and you're not taught that one of these is good or better or only acceptable compared to the others, and you're taught about the ways these tastes interact with and complement one another.
You don't necessarily get taught to develop that same sense of tastes with style, much of the time. You might get taught some styles "look good" or that some are cringe, and sometimes this will be based along the lines of class indicators and commercialism - these are expensive clothes, or look expensive; these look cheap. These look slutty, these look tasteful. These look "slimming", or these bulk you up.
None of these descriptors describe the clothes. They almost entirely describe people's ("society"'s) potential reaction or relationship with the clothes or styles you might favour, because they're about like... what people will like, or if they'll think of you as professional or trustworthy as a consumer or employee or sexual partner, etc. None of that's about like, your actual personality, but about conformity.
Even terms like "cozy" or "utilitarian" have become appropriated for commercial reasons, to the extent that they indicate a certain buying class, you know?
And the thing about all of those styles is that they're often applied to people's bodies as much as they are the actual clothes - the same clothes on one body might be praised, and then heavily policed or even abused on another. The personality you have and your manner of expression is less relevant than the desire you should conform.
So yeah, this is important for me!
I feel very strongly about my personal style as someone who's very much a dandy and enjoys my combination of period styles, and I want people to be able to play with the same tool set and seek out things that make them feel as joyful about how they dress and style themselves as I feel about mine, regardless of their own bodies or what people have said to them or expressed to them in the past!
And to feel like... the important thing for your style is you rather than a nebulous set of approvals people or groups might or might not have of you.

A/N: Hi new and existing mutuals! Sorry for my lack of posts. University has been a challenge lately. I know I fell behind the "weekly Kinktober" pieces but I'm currently polishing the next one now! It should be out this weekend. For those who submitted requests, thank you and I assure you I'm slowly working on them! For now, please have this HC that popped in my mind before sleeping last night.
After searching everywhere, you see Brimstone facing one of the computer stands with his face almost sticking to the monitor and his finger simply hovering over it. You knew he wasn't versed with modern technology, so you quickly came over and asked him what he was trying to do. He told you that he recently got complaints about HQ being "too dull", so he requested assistance in checking the catalog for colorful decors to put up in the lounge and hallways.
Viper would be looking at the assortment of utility carts displayed, deciding which style would fit her laboratory best, and measuring by eye how much of her reagents will fit per shelf. She's been having trouble moving around the lab, so she thought it would be handy to have a small cart she could push and pull to each station. You pointed at one of the carts. "I usually won't pick that because it might stand out too much, but since you chose it, so be it. Thank you, little mouse," she casually said with a nod.
Omen wouldn't dare to get lost. He'd always stick close to you in fear of what people might think of him. You kept your arm clung to him while you continuously soothed the back of his hand with your thumb. He'd casually tug you a few times though to check some throw blankets and couch pillows in the Holiday section.
You'd see Cypher roaming around the Smart Home section, fascinated by how these small household products could do so much beyond surveillance, like his cameras. He even discovered one tiny device that could control several other devices and house functions, which he thought would be useful for him. You decided to surprise him by commanding the Smart Assistant to play his favorite tune. "Ah, you found me, habibi!" he said in a cheerful tone while slightly grooving to the music. This made you giggle.
You will notice Sova's tall figure standing out from the shelves of portable containers. Before you can even get to him, he'd immediately see you and walk towards you, "I found wide insulated flasks over there. Can those keep soup warm for a long time?" You nodded enthusiastically. He sighed in relief, "Spasiba. No more roaring stomachs during missions. Let's buy one for everyone."
Sage will not get lost simply because the chances of you getting lost are higher. She's a very patient person, so there's no means for her to hurry into another section when you're clearly not done with the current one. She also handles the money (if you're both shopping for VP) and has her ears open to any suggestion you have to make HQ feel more like home.
Good luck finding Phoenix in IKEA. He'd be all over the place, checking out each cool stuff he sees. Jett won't come to the furniture store with both of you but expect her to be on a video call with the fire Radiant, laughing at every shenanigan he's pulling out. That was until you phoned him and found him through his ringtone, echoing by the glassware section. "Phoenix, I'm not gonna pay for any damages you make," you huffed in distress. "Relax fam, I'm careful," he assured with a chuckle, "By the way, I found the infamous stuffed bear earlier. Want it?"

What would be for tips on designing characters?
This is kind of a complicated topic.
I think the first tip is to identify what the character design is for. like is it for a school project, a prompt, a parody of something else (and is said parody meant to be a tribute, or satirical), etc. Is the purpose going to be making them heroic, cute, cool, sexy, intimidating, scary, goofy, etc. Is this just for fun, experimenting, or something to represent yourself? Is this a member of a species/cast of characters, and if so, what traits are common to the species/cast, and what traits are unique to them? Knowing that beforehand can help set your expectations, and give you some direction to work towards (or away from? if you're really trying to experiment...)
The next step I'd usually suggest doodling ideas off the top of your head. it's unlikely to be "good" but it does help establish your current perspective that's been built up subconsciously over the years from exposure to media and your own tastes. It's a good point of reference to start off with imo. Sometimes that might be all you need, if you really like what you came up with and it speaks to you in some way.
Typically though, especially if you have a specific goal in mind or are learning character design or are trying to venture out of your comfort zone, it won't look that good/unique yet. That's when you'd begin researching: take a few characters that come to mind that fit your idea of goals established. If you want to make a cool character, what are traits that stick out to you as "cool"? Is it certain accessories, their shape, personality, or what they do? Those are things worth considering. If you have an art style established, how can you translate those aspects? If there's real-world or other references you can bring in, that's always good too, and has a better chance of coming up with something that feels more personal/unique.
Along with researching is when you'd start experimenting with this stuff. Trying out different body/head proportions, eye shapes, how hair looks. A really important thing to consider is how often you expect to draw this character. If it's something you know you'll draw hundreds or thousands of times, then you really need to weigh in what parts of them are fun to draw versus not fun, whether you can simplify parts of them into easier shapes, is the difficult aspect something you're willing to get better at overtime, what aspects lend itself to a wider range of expression (unless the goal is to make them NOT expressive, or w/e).
This is also where I'd start thinking more about stuff like personality and how they think. Maybe you have an idea already that's part of your overall goal, but now you should be trying to figure out how to convey that in the design. What's their history? What people do they interact with regularly and how do they interact with them? What's their long term and short term goals? Who is their favorite my little pony character? You don't HAVE to answer all of these, and you definitely don't have to commit to them forever, but it's the kind of stuff that will help inform your design more, and maybe even aid in world-building (if that's part of your goal).
I think the final "tests" would be trying to make some kind of reference stuff, arriving at a consistent draft of your findings. This can involve doing some turnarounds, seeing what they look like at different angles, or minor details. Expression tests involving the face, or body.
If it feels like something that appeals to you and hits on the goals you've established, then I say that's good enough... but I also think you should be open to experimenting on them further too, when inspiration hits. Character design is something most people change their tastes or get better at, and it's good to be open-minded about trying new things to see if that works out. It can be as complex as a whole redesign or just changing the color scheme. And while I described the process linearly, sometimes you'll get to the reference part and realize the goal itself ought to be changed. That's fine too, it's good to bounce back and forth all the steps if that's what helps you create something you like.
Of course we don't really design stuff in a vacuum and post stuff for others to look at, so I think another important aspect to temper your expectations is to know that not every character is created equal. Your concept could be an android-samurai that is haunted by math problems and maybe you can pull off that concept the best anyone ever could... it's not likely to get as many notes as "bunny girl with big boobs #35279". That doesn't mean you failed, just that your potential audience will be more niche, and likely their connection to a character idea, if presented well, might be deeper.
Of yeah, presentation. People aren't going to always know every single aspect of your character at a given moment: it's good to keep in mind what the themes of a character are and at least try to be consistent with that. It's totally okay to draw them in silly memes all you want, but don't blame other people if they have trouble taking them seriously when you suddenly put them in a dramatic trauma web series (you would have to pace your transition into it thoughtfully). You should try to present them in ways that make sense for their character. But sometimes you discover that maybe you don't like that anymore... it's fine to shift them into a new direction, I think that's part of the artistic discovery process.
That's all I can think right now that's broad. I think anything else is more just specific to my own preferences.

I'm an autistic girl who also has adhd, asthma and chronic joint pain. I work as a librarian currently and am simultaneously very smart and scholarly and also full of energy. I'm definitely the sunshine person in a group, I love taking care of people and I'm very good at making other people laugh, I have a very dry witty sense of humor. I'm also super short, 4' 10"/147 cm, but I can get kinda insecure about it when dating. I have a very boyish style, long wavy auburn hair that floofs up around my head, glasses and I'm pale and covered in moles and freckles. I also love being out in nature, and if I can't be I bring nature to me, I have tons of houseplants.

You know who’d give you the love you so rightly deserve? HALSIN.
Halsin’s mere presence exudes a warmth that is difficult to put into words - it’s one of the many reasons others seem to flock to him for guidance or look to him for comfort. Perhaps it is that warmth that leads you to his side.
The first few interactions with the druid, the two of you hit it off like nobody's business. Halsin is the kind of man who with your equally vibrant personality makes it feel as though you’ve known this man for months longer than you actually have.
There’s a fierce focus behind your eyes that speaks of your sharp wit and intelligence, your pursuit of all things knowledge and academic clear from his very first meeting with you. There’s nothing that Halsin loves more than watching that fire kindle when something’s caught your interest, fascinated by the way your whole demeanor seems to brighten when something has managed to spark up your passion. You call yourself a sunshine person, but to Halsin you’re almost akin to the sun; a bright presence who warms up the very air around you as though breathing life into every place and every person you touch. Halsin would find himself wanting to see more of it; compelled to see what else he can do to get you to light up like that and bring out that radiance he’s so quickly begun to associate with you.
He will absolutely visit your workplace in the middle of the day. Of course he’d much prefer to take you outdoors any chance that he gets, but understands that the library is your territory - a fitting workplace, he comments, considering your pursuits. Expect his visits to be spontaneous though; whenever he finds himself thinking or pining for you he just follows the desire to seek you out to spend time at your side. The only warning that you’ll likely get is seeing his unmistakable figure outside of your peripheral before you’re scooped away from whatever task you’re working on; this can be cute but expect a few book based casualties if you happen to be holding any at the time. He’ll try not to disrupt your work, but let's be honest, having this big guy watching you with a gaze loving enough to make ice melt you’re gonna cave no matter how resilient you may be.
You’ll quickly begin finding little gifts left around your workspace, all of them expressions of his affection. Most of them, unsurprisingly, are plants; not only because he finds that nature can breathe a life into even the most mundane of places, but also because your mutual appreciation of nature makes him believe that you would enjoy nature’s gifts. Given your own love of nature you may find your coworkers suspecting you’re the one bringing them in; that is until they catch him on his way to you with a potted ribbon plant cradled in his arms.
You brim with energy, enough so that even Halsin finds himself caught up within the wake of it. His heart swells watching you care for others and bringing them joy as though it’s second nature. The willingness to care and tend to others is a trait so easily overlooked in the world, and given that Halsin has more than once taken on such a role in the past and present he finds a kindred spirit in that kind nature of yours. Dote on him, try to make him laugh, and watch this man melt for you like honey in the sun. Be it with your words or your touch, your care touches a place within his chest; one that carves a place in his heart for you to fill like it was made for you.
With that being said, the role of a caretaker so often comes with the consequence of overlooking your own care. This is a man though who knows that those who love taking care of others need the exact same love and attention lavished upon them in kind; and there is no one more eager to do so than himself. The care of oneself is just as important, and giving yourself time to heal and relax is vital. Taking you out into nature is a predictable date idea for the druid, but he does it to also get you away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life if only for a few hours. To allow you a moment to breathe, ease some of the burdens from your shoulders, and give you a place away from others to vent and give yourself some peace.
Plus outdoorsy dates in the middle of nowhere gives him the excuse to remain affectionately glued to your side under the pretense of sticking close together - a fact he has no hesitation admitting to if you call him out on it.
His care also extends to your chronic pain. If you suffer from flare ups in your joints Halsin will insist on helping you in whatever way he can, so long as you’re comfortable of course. Balms and healing spells aplenty - anything that he can do to alleviate even a fraction of your suffering he's happy to do without a second of hesitation. He’d wish nothing more than to ease that pain from you entirely, but he does what he can to make the worst days a little more manageable.
Tall king won’t even think twice about your height, nor the potential insecurity that you are dealing with as a result. He strives to be accommodating for you, and there is not an inch of you that is not loved fully and wholly by this guy. If you open up about any potential insecurities, rest assured that he will devote every second of that very day reminding you of his appreciation for your form, and every little mark that makes up who you are.
If you think this man won’t kiss every single one of your moles and freckles, prepare to be proven so very wrong. Literally his favorite pastime when you’re cuddling is to kiss the freckles and marks that he can reach, whether that’s your face, your shoulders, your back, arms, or anywhere else. Has a habit of kissing the marks on your hands, intertwining his fingers with yours and brushing his nose along the top or palm of your hand before planting a kiss. Sometimes gets a little too enthusiastic with the kisses. He’s smushed your glasses into your nose a couple times beneath the barrage of his kisses, but your complaints about it are only met with a rumbling chuckle as he leans up to place an apologetic kiss to the bridge of your nose. Depending on where they are he’ll trace along those freckles and moles, mapping them out reverently beneath his fingertips as though committing them to memory. There’s a softness in his expression whenever he does this, but don’t call him out on it unless you’re gunning for some more kisses.
I do hope you’re prepared for your home to become a greenhouse! With both of your meticulous care your houseplants will practically thrive before your very eyes, and soon will be growing in number the more that Halsin integrates himself around your home. It’s as though he’s bringing the very outdoors inside with him, and he’s in turn deeply impressed by the attention and love which you have poured into the plants that take residence within your home.

September MC & OCs of the Month - Special Edition: Skylar Barnett-Lyons
Help us in welcoming September's MCs and OCs of the month! That's right, plural! Most months, CFWC highlights one randomly selected MC or OC from our Meet My MC / OC List. (More info here.) But this month, we're doing something different.
In August, @lilyoffandoms hosted a Writers Appreciation Month, and we announced the September Writer of the Month would be selected from its participants. But all participants agreed - Lily deserved the honor! Still, we wanted to do something nice for the eleven writers who elected to participate to help uplift other writers in the fandom. So, this month, each of the eleven participants will have one of their MCs or OCs highlighted.
We will introduce each MC / OC individually, and once all eleven have been highlighted, a masterlist for the month will be created. We hope you enjoy getting to know all about them!

In your words, tell us what you like most about your OC.
What I love about Skylar is his complexity. He has so many layers it's impossible to keep a count of them all. People who understand him can be counted on one single hand, and rarer are those who totally get him.
I love how he can be so open and talkative but also so quiet and reserved.
I love how witty and playful he is and how flirty he can be. It counterbalances his kind and overall gentle nature. He's loyal and genuine but also still trying to figure himself out. He mainly struggles with his identity. He's an androgynous person but partially relates to his androgyny. I love to see how he learns how to navigate through this.
Do you feel your OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?
Skylar is on the non-binary spectrum, as he currently defines himself as demiandrogyne. He has also stated that he is greyromantic and bidemisexual, meaning he is on the aromantic and asexual spectrums.
I belong to these 3 spectrums as well, so while we don't have the exact same experiences, he is relatable to me.
Like me, he is an artist through and through. He's complex like I wrote above but more than I already am. He is still in the process of figuring himself out and it's a great struggle, whereas I don't have this issue.
He's witty, shy, friendly and playful like me, as well as open-minded, kind-hearted and straightforward.
We don't share the same aesthetics and style, I don't drink coffee, I like oranges and he is British-American - I'm neither.
What is most important to your OC? What is their motivation in life?
What is most important to Skylar is to be able to be himself. It's always hard when someone knows themself but much harder when they don't.
He wants to know who he is, so that he can truly be happy. He carries some sadness in his heart because of his identity struggles. The pressure of society is only increasing his struggles of knowing who he is. He doesn't always know what to do with himself and if there's a true purpose in his life.
What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?
His biggest pet peeves are:
- Discrimination. More than angering him, it makes him really sad because this pressing on his struggles. Any form of discrimination is unbearable.
- Violence. Any forms of violence and abuse.
- Hypocrisy. He's too straightforward and genuine to understand this, thus accepting it.
If your OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?
If he could, Skylar would change that society that defines standards and discriminates and hurts people who don't fit into the mould created and forced upon them.
What is your OC’s favorite quote or song?
One Night by Technicolour reminds him of all the road trips he went on with his family, Saini and her mom every summer.
A quote he loves: "An eye for an eye ends up making the whole world blind." - Mahatma Gandhi.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your OC?
Since Immortal Desires book 1 hasn't talked about MC's life before moving to Crimson Beech, I wanted my MC, Saini (they/them), to have someone very special back where they grew up.
A best childhood friend was perfect and just like that, Skylar appeared and I've been learning to get to know him since then.
He revealed himself to be more complex than I thought he would be and telling his story has been a delight since day one.
I hope you will get to know him by reading my series Vampire Heart and that you will love him as much as I do, which is a ton because he's precious.
