Every time I think about the Tree of Feelings I can't help but be a little underwhelmed at how the most popular depictions of it is just. the tree. on a hill. surrounded by miles of nothing but grass and maybe a few houses in the distance.

Oh, and I'm trying out a hc with the "light of Valinor" that so prominently is said to dwell in all Valinor-born elves (first had Tyelpe without it so I could better showcase the difference, but then I looked it up and he was not born later in Beleriand so eh). Elves born in the West get light pupils from me, a reflection of the trees and an inflection, actually. In daytime, the light in their eyes would be silver and golden at night, reminiscent of Telperion and Laurelin. Maybe they had somehow absorbed the tree light as they grew up. After the Noldor's flight, perhaps that even granted them some semblance of familiarity to what was lost and some comfort at gazing into their loved ones' eyes.

Of course, without the trees and the Valar's blessings, that kind of light lingered in the ones that had come from Valinor, but their children, born in Middle-Earth, would not inherit it and so even that small reminder of the Era of Trees was slowly forgotten. Few Eldar possess these tree-lit eyes anymore, but imagine the shock of the first new parents in Beleriand to see their children's dark pupils and maybe believe the Valar had not only forsaken them (which most had made their peace with) but their innocent descendants as well.

OK, so you have implied in your previous Fae Dick posts that animals and trees can communicate with him in some fashion. Does that mean that Fae Dick could somehow get a heads up that Jason is crawling out of his grave? Could Fae Dick get to a resurrected Jason faster then the league would?

I’d go with yes, yes Dick would notice. Also I don’t think he’d allow Bruce to bury Jason anywhere but the manor grounds, so that would help.

When Jason wakes up in his grave the entirety of the Wayne estate would startle out of its grief stricken slumber, as imbued as it is with Dick’s fae magic. As such, I think the soil and the roots would also aid Jason in breaking free of his grave, severely reducing whatever brain damage he may suffer from a lack of oxygen.

Meanwhile Dick, who’s out in the streets as Nightwing, would definitely feel a sense of alarm and urgency from his home and immediately turn around to check it out.

And this find Jason right as he pulls himself from the ground.

(Dick doesn’t question it. He’s fae. And questioning miracles is the best way to unmake them and he’d rather sleep in an iron bed than give Jason up again.)

Tim and Bruce would probably suspect that Dick dabbled in some kind of necromancy for a while. Not that Dick does anything to dissuade them of that notion, he’s too busy hissing and spitting at anybody stupid enough to approach Jason without his express permission and feeding him healing plants and roots the forest readily offers to him. 🌳✨

MP100 3x5 is actually so fun to watch just because it’s kind of satisfying to watch Mob be so unbelievably pissed the fuck off. He’s not even at his 100% rage or anything, which makes it better. He’s genuinely so blinded with a middle schooler’s inextinguishable malice and hatred for Dimple in that moment that it’s like watching a bar fight. It takes a lot for Mob to start punching and slapping and throwing bitches to the ground when he wasn’t even really physically attacked first. That boy let Toichiro the domestic terrorist—who leveled an entire city of people and beat the jesus out of his own 13 year-old son directly in front of Mob—beat the fucking brakes off of him before even considering violence, but a few poorly considered words out of Dimple’s mouth and he comes in with a steel folding chair and a pure lust for blood.

Okay at this point I can admit I have thing for (over)protective characters so I’m all too happy to oblige lol.

Anyway, protective fae!Dick:

He doesn’t notice he’s being overprotective most of the time. When the people close to him mention a minor inconvenience his first instinct is to remove that inconvenience from the equation altogether. It’s a steep learning curve, because when Bruce first took him in he didn’t realize he’d have to stop Dick from killing half the Rogue gallery in the span of a few months. “But they hurt you,” he’d pout, “and it wouldn’t be really killing, anyway. I’m just… recycling them.” “…” “I could let them keep their consciousness—“ “N O”

Friends, while cherished, do not get to claim the same level of protectiveness. Dick would always come to their aid, of course, but for each request for help he keeps a tally mark in his head; accumulating favors. Only his family are exempt from this.

While there have been a couple close calls over the years, none will ever compare to the time he came back from a mission to find a member of his family gone. To this day Dick refuses to talk about the first couple weeks after he found out. And around the same time each year every plant and tree seems to wither and rot for a while before suddenly bursting back into full bloom. Jason has to return to the manor for this time each year, or Dick will absolutely track him down and drag him back himself. Neither he nor the manor lets him leave until Dick is back to his cheerfully self.

Any close calls with the family after that automatically result in several weeks of house arrest for the respective family member, courtesy of carnivorous deer and some over enthusiastic tree roots that enforce this rule with absolute prejudice.

If someone tries to kill a member of the family while Dick patrols with them/is close by, the only thing the batfam can do is damage control. Because while they can usually stop him from killing the perpetrator, it probably isn’t very ethical to allow a borderline eldritch being to cry their brains with his strange magic either.
