miguel forgot to mention the other cannon event of every spider-person. they are all transgender

it has occurred to me that this was supposed to be a parkner blog. so here’s some parkner thoughts. 

fun fact- harley’s a little gay boy from tennessee who grew up hearing that the devil came for kids like him who wanted to kiss the wrong person. so when harley moves to new york, he’s not immediately waving a pride flag. instead, he has a beat up leather jacket, an old car, and a smirk that could cut glass. peter is sold and practically swooning because hello, gorgeous. but he’s also like,,, harley’s from tennessee. what if he’s like, homophobic??? and not an ✨ally✨??? and then harley full on outs himself to an asshole who harasses peter on the street with an ‘I’m gay, dickface’ and just. punches him hard enough to break his nose. (peter is THIS close to proposing okay)

harley forgets everything. out of sight, out of mind. keys? gone. phone? poof. jacket? who? and peter’s memory is kind of shit, too, honestly, but karen’s memory is fucking golden (perks of being a computer) and she’ll remind peter to remind harley to grab his stuff. harley still doesn’t know peter has karen do it, so he just thinks his boyfriend’s awesome. peter’s not gonna correct him. 

peter doesn’t wear nail polish that often, but when harley casually (definitely not feeling casual internally, but that’s fine) mentioned that he was considering sometimes wearing it, peter went ALL OUT. like, he added color, he added glitter, he made his nails the biggest and brightest part of his being. harley called him an idiot, but he would always grin when he saw them, so peter considered it a win. 

harley likes country music. but only the country music from 70s-90s. the rest is absolute slander to him. 

(yes, I wrote a whole ass fic about that, and no, I’m not sorry.)

peter can’t draw for shit. he just can’t. harley swears by stick figures. (watch the insidious part two promo with ty. you’ll get what I mean.)

peter does unironically call himself biderman. harley calls him homophobic. 

harley’s defining emotion is offense and/or what he calls his ‘bitch, fucking excuse you?’ emotion, and he’s very proud of this fact. 

peter’s favorite color changes pretty consistently, but he’s really attached to his blue and red, especially when they’re together. 

harley’s is dark red (darker than peter’s), and gold. he will deny to his denying breath that it’s tony’s colors, because ‘why would I care about the old man? fuck off’

they aren’t allowed to have a dog, because new york (peter is so sad about this, okay), so harley just brought home a pet lizard one day. no warning. no call. peter asked zero questions and named her mrs. cheeto.

Trans rights or punch in the face

Okay okay but aged up Peter who revealed his identity to the avengers. He has been coming to the tower/compound for several months before he was invited to work out/train.

At some point he takes his shirt off to wipe his face.

And maybe someone asked about the scars on his chest since they don't see even the old gunshot or stabwounds, so this had to have been a bad one.

And Peter has to awkwardly explain those are his top surgery scars from before his spider bite.

And that is how he came out as trans.

ATSV SPOILERS!!!

(It’s all allegories and metaphors I know I know but I can only say it that many times until it takes away from the point I’m making. She is trans tho shut up.)

Okay so we all know Gwen Stacy/Spiderwoman is a trans allegory (is trans) right? Right.

I rewatched ATSV today, and I’ll watch it even more no doubt about that. But I’m here to talk about the part of the movie that made me gasp and go “ohh.”

So we already know it’s GWEN who’s trans NOT Peter cause that takes away from her whole allegory AND I don’t care how much of an ally you are - you’re not hanging the trans flag in your room. However, the person I actually wanna focus on here is Peter.

Peter isn’t really introduced to us as someone we should care about, we care about Gwen and her pain of losing Peter but Peter himself? He wasn’t built enough as a character for us to care. He’s shown having dinner with Gwen’s family throughout the years, someone who is implied Gwen isn’t really ever without. Then one day he dies. As he dies in Gwen’s arms he reveals he knew who she was and tells her everything will be okay. Gwen flees the scene upon the arrival of her dad who finds Peters dead body.

Gwen’s father is fixated on the death of Peter, absolutely convinced Spiderwoman killed him. Gwen herself tells her dad that she doesn’t think it was her, a conversation they’ve likely had many times over the years considering. Despite Gwen’s efforts her dad remains almost obsessed over arresting Spiderwoman specifically for Peters death. This sort of thirst for revenge would be better placed if it was his own personal connection who was seemingly murdered, but it wasn’t, it was his daughters best friend. His daughter whom holds no ill will against Spiderwoman and actively encourages her Dad to not try and arrest her. He becomes angry and is convinced he’s correct. This is a lot of anger and DEVOTION (as it’s been years since Peter’s death) to catching someone who only you is convinced killed your…daughter’s…best….friend?

It then culminates with her dad facing her, Spiderwoman, with a gun. In a desperate attempt to save herself she reveals her identity. Her dad is horrified and wavers, but doesn’t fully lower the gun. And then she says the line that made me gasp, “I didn’t kill Peter.”

Peter isn’t her friend in this allegory he’s her dead name, the person she used to present as. Her dad is fighting for the son he thinks he’s lost to a daughter that’s killed him. Peter was there with her throughout her life because it was in fact her that was with Peter, Gwen was always there, Spiderwoman was always there, Gwen just finally came out of hiding.

It’s never explained as to why Peter knew Gwen’s name as he died. What it is is him knowing Gwen is there as the truth, as Spiderwoman - Him AS Gwen, her letting him go as he dies. Leaving Peter, Gwen staying. Him saying “Gwen, it’s all gonna be okay.” Because he knew, he IS Gwen, she IS Spiderwoman, and it IS gonna be all okay.

Idk I just have a lot of feelings

spider-trans. trans-man. Spiderman trans. I don’t wanna talk about how or why the suit would be in multiple pieces just don’t question it.

Something, I just realised that really resonated with me about Gwen in Across Spiderverse, is her clothing.

When around non-spiderfolk adults and at home she wears loose fitting clothing which seems androgynous and hides the shape of her body.

But, when with Miles and her spider friends, she dresses in tight clothing. She’s clearly comfortable with her body when around friends but she seems to feel the need to hide her figure around people outside her friend group.

Similarly, I struggle with my body and didn’t wear shorts or tight fitting clothing for many years because I had problems with how masculine my legs and torso looked due to body hair and my wide shoulders.

These traits caused much dysphoria until I made more accepting friends when I became more comfortable with wearing shorts, tight tops, jeans and even leggings. My dysphoria became less severe around them because I knew they saw me as a girl. I even realised that some of my features were rather feminine like the shape of my legs and hips (though I don’t have curves) so I started empathising them making me appear more feminine and womanly. My shoulders are also not broad compared to most men and it bacame obvious my dysphoria had been exaggerating certain features.

Whilst at home though, or out with family, I wear baggy clothing which, whilst isn’t masculine, hides my shape so no one can tell my sex because I’m scared of my family’s reaction to seeing me in feminine clothing. Simultaneously, I feel less comfortable because I know they will always see me as a boy.

I know many cis girls and boys, especially in their teens. have body image issues and feel more comfortable showing their figure around friends but, to me, Gwen’s choice of outfits, and how they shape her, is very trans. A lot of cis girls (not all) will still dress fem around family but just not in clothes which emphasise their shape but Gwen chooses to dress androgynously around her dad and is more comfortable showing her shape around friends. Of course, it is her choice how she dresses but there’s a definite contrast between her clothes around friends and her clothes around her dad.

This is just a reading and I don’t know how intended it was but I thought it was a cool and fun approach which I found in this video. (Apologies the link can’t be copied here for some unknown reason so here’s a screenshot.) They cover a lot of readings of the film involving queer theory, race theory and comic history.

Also can we just appreciate how cool Gwen looks in every scene. The gender envy is so strong. <3

I think it's so funny how people got so mad about Gwen being trans but didn't give two shits when people said Miguel is transmasc, this is very much indicative of how we're viewed in society, people literally don't think trans men exist lol, it's only seemingly an outrage when amab people transition into women meanwhile both are of course valid
