Ignore literally every typo n stuff. I wrote this up as a summary of a 3hr convo I had w a buddy not long after the Jason Fear Augmentaion issue dropped 👍
(Below cut bc I'm insane👍👍)
Opening with Tim at Jason’s funeral, just going through the motions. It passes quickly. It’s only been a couple days and it was a small funeral of close family and friends. Everyone is a little wary of Bruce being there since it is kind of his fault. Tim goes home and continues to monologue to himself about how Jason can’t be dead, and the story begins taking a similar route to Bruce being lost in the timestream during RedRobin 2009, including Dick coming by to check on him.
Debating on if/when I would want to resurrect Ives or Lonnie. Ives would be decently early on, before Tim has gotten the chance to leave Gotham and start looking for Jason/processing death. So that Ives ends up dragged in because he’ll know he died. Versus Lonnie being resurected after Tim has ran rampant for a while and mostly overcome denial of Jason’s death. (Either way) This leads Tim into a mode of, “well, if you came back, he can. He has before.” Which is a very in-your-face Bargaining Metaphor. I’m thinking Lonnie returns because of Darkseid stuff during Tim’s world-tour. He ends up acting as a moral compass but moreso in the sense that he’ll ask why Tim chose to do/not do certain things. (They’ll get some degree of philosophical about it all. Morality Napkin will be mentioned). It’s after Lonnie’s return that Tim starts to privately get necromantically dubious to potential bring Jason back. This inevitably gets used on local civillians and teammates. He’s insane. Continuously through this bargaining arc, he’s mulling over how and why Jason “”died”” (double quotations because Tim thinks it’s not real) and where he might really be. It’s important that the reader also thinks Jason can/will come back. We gotta tie the audience to Reader-Insert Tim Drake, lol. Have flashbacks to Jason having a “civillian” life and being a discount personal Oracle to Tim and just general brother bonding, since Tim had more recently leaned back into properly balancing his work/vigilante life with civilian life. And not once else was really checking in and hanging out with Jason anyways, since they’re so busy and he’s clearly so capable. Maybe Tim was already actively working on a backout for the brain alteration, but couldn’t work it out before Jason had a lethal reaction or offed himself. I think Tim should have some kind of grudge and/or animosity towards Bruce before storming off. I think Tim should blow up at Bruce in the back during Jason’s funeral yelling that Jason’s “”death”” was Bruce’s fault.
As for running rampant, I’d like to bring Pru back into light, she’s fun(and whenever he gets back to Gotham, before(/if?) Jason comes back, bring Tam in again. I really want him dealing with villains other than the usual Gotham crowd, because there’s monotony in throwing the same guys in jail/asylum over and over again. You know what they’re going to do and how. It’s easy to not kill them or even want to. Other villains, though. Other states or countries.. Yikes. It gives perspective. At some point, I want him to grieve over a villain that dies while he and his crew are fighting them. He doesn’t kill. This is his fault. Maybe a member of a temporary teamup(someone local to the area) dies. He should’ve been able to save them. It’s his fault. Again. There’s a villain that continues to let Tim percievably get close to winning, but continuously kills some other hero and/or civillian. TIm doesn’t kill this villain, but a teammate does. “Tim/[“hero” name]. You don’t kill.” “And I didn’t.” “You let me.” Some degree of shock and satisfaction, but mostly worry. Maybe “It’s equally my fault I let you off [villain] as it is my fault that it’s my fault [causalties] died.” “But [villain] killed them. How is that your fault?” “Then how is it my fault you killed [villain]?” It’d be so morally fucked up if he resurected villains because at least if he did it wrong, they were already dead, right? Kill ‘em again. 99 pile up. I’m making him resurect 99 things. I feel evil. I can’t let him resurect Ives, though… I can’t. I think if, during his necromancy era, he did think of resurrecting Ives, he’d think about it way harder than other subject. He’s a civilian, he’s been dead for a while, he had/has cancer, he has family, he doesn’t know about the reality of heroes and stuff. I think Tim choosing not to resurrect Ives would be a key shift to move on from bargaining.
Enter in depression about his friends and family and civillians and villains, even, dying. I think he’s still being morally dubious, but again, another key turning point of him choosing whether he’d choose a heroic or villainous path. He’s good at acting as a villain, he might’ve even enjoyed it for a while. Maybe even notice that he can get away with more, knowing that his foil heroes aren’t going to kill him… He gets perspective. He flips back and forth, uncertain of his place in the world. Stuff about him taking the Renegade mantle and Slade popping up a couple times during that. Whatever, I’ll need to read Stuff to understand better( or maybe Druid& will dump on me 🥺). Slade dies, I guess. Joey, Rose and Tim grieve together. Rose and Joey have done it before, and Tim’s mostly through his Jason Journey already. It’s nice.
Tim comes home. And, I don’t know what order/if I want to do all of this, but.. Is Jason back already, or does that happen after Tim’s settled back into routine(choosing to balance civvie and vigilante life)? Tim gets a new gifted vigilante name, but from who? Pru&co? Once Again Risen Jason(new bread type)? Joey/Rose? Slade? Fuck, man.
Fuck, grief that Jason’s back? I don’t even want to bring Jason back at this point, actually. Keep him dead. Would be funny if Tim’s recent necromancy just let’s him called the beyond dead to catch up over the phone, lol. He won’t bring him back, that’s an established agreement between them both. But the concept of secondly resurrected Jason having to cope with his own death and moving on from his own death. The coming to terms with being your own person(Tim) and coming to terms with being a new person(Jason)... They’re fundamentally different than they used to be. They’re different together. Blah, blah. Either way it’s a probably nice ending.

My thoughts and theories about Power Girl's future
As you may know, I am a big Power Girl fan. As such, I couldn't be happier with her getting so much new content as of lately. After vanishing post n52, and ignoring her n52-Earth 2 incarnation, it is really refreshing to see her again.
But, after some thinking I reached a theory about her present state, which I plan to present and explain my train of thoughts. Let's get to the point then, what did I "discover"?
Well, I am pretty sure Power Girl is going through a revitalization process right now.
And I am not talking about just coming back after so many years, I am saying full on new solo and stuff. Well let's get to it and start explaining!
Tumblr media
As you may know, in 2023 DC is doing a soft "relaunch" called Dawn of DC. The purpose of this is to: 1) bring back old legacy characters, that have not had content for quite some time, 2) present big names in a welcoming manner to new readers, or 3) presenting new names altogether.
In this scenario, Power Girl stays right on the first category. That being said, DC has been revealing stuff in a slow pace, letting people savor the hype. BUT, I think they already making preparations for PG's return.
First off, we have Action Comics. PG got a mini backup story in three chapters there, done by the QUEENS Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage. The story actually started in Lazarus Planet Alpha, but the meat and potatoes is in AC.
This story served as mini reintroduction, quickly going through her most important lore points, all the while establishing a new and very interesting status quo for the character. Having developed psyonic powers, PG has united forces with Omen to open a psychological support clinic for heroes, with their first patient being Beast Boy. This is a great set up, and opens up MANY possible adventures and cool plots. Imagine if they got a chance to talk and help all kinds of heroes! Like Kon or Tim Drake. Heck, current Power Girl could have helped Wally West back in the event-I-shall-not-name. That's a really cool way to reinsert her in the bigger DC universe, and differentiate her from the rest of the Superfam.
Tumblr media
Even more than that, she even got an AMAZINGLY GREAT redesign! This might not seen much in the great scheme of things, but why else would you contract and pay people to do a redesign, if you don't plan on using it in the future. Commercially it makes sense to think they plan on using her more now, if not they would probably just stick with the old design.
Tumblr media
And the last thing I wanted to bring attention to is: DC will release a new edition of her Power Trip TPB in March, which contains the start of her 2009 solo. Considering that this TPB brings back a more in depth look at her origins (in JSA Classified) and some solo adventures, and looking at the fact that it comes out just some days before her last issue in Action Comics, it looks like it's a product aimed at showing even more of her for new readers.
It would not surprise me if later they release a new edition of her TPBs from Judd Winick's run (I want this so fucking much) , and even later on the year start a solo limited/miniseries, like Superboy's in April.
And that's it! Sorry if it got kind of convoluted, but I had so many thoughts, and I had to put them out there somewhere. I know this might jus sound like a mad fan spouting nonsense while drowning in copium, but I really love this character, and knowing she might have a chance to finally be under the sun again (no Kryptonian pun intended) is such a good prospect I cannot help but feel excited to what the future might hold for us!
The future looks bright for our Queen! And I will be there, on the first row, NO MATTER WHAT!

He's A Peach He's A Doll He's A Friend To Me (He Will Never Be Free)
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/Fxq8B71 by smashakdsasdfbasd Tim Drake was a young boy who was neglected by his parents but, his other parents… well, that’s a different story. In the end, he regretted having his eyes sewn in buttons by the Beldam but before he could get eaten, Tim was able to make a deal with the Beldam. “If I can find a better family… Better than what you did for me before all this,” Tim gestures at everything, “then you have to let go of me.” Beldam taps her fingers, humming rhythmically before grinning, “Seems unlikely but alright. And if you can’t find a better one then you’ll have to come back here.” she said, “With me.”   Or Tim is already dead but can’t move on because of the Beldam but made a deal so if Tim finds a better family then his soul will be free and can rest, and if not then he’ll be eaten slowly. listen ok mayb i just have way too many thoughts on fathers and thats like a me problem but like. i think we should get more tim feeling conflicted abt jack like. after the man is dead. ykno. like of course it was traumatic for him and like. it was just one thing after the other back then but like. idk. i dont think all his issues with jack shld just never be brought up again. like he wasnt terrible awful no good very bad but like. he wasnt a saint either. i just want to hear more of tim's thoughts abt his parents and like. how their deaths made his thoughts and feelings even More complicated. and also bruce wayne vs jack drake who is more dad to tim.
Yeah Tim’s relationships with Jack and Bruce are very complex things that like… they do come up sometimes but a lot of his problems with Jack do stop coming up once Jack’s dead.
Earlier on while Jack is alive I think Tim goes a decent amount into his frustrations with him, thinking especially about that issue of Batman that has Tim writing a letter to Jack about how be doesn’t actually know him (that Tim ultimately throws in the fire at the end rather than giving him).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Batman #480)
But I think because Jack and Tim had kinda gotten to a place where maybe things were gonna get better between them (because Robin was no longer a secret) right before Jack died, Tim gets really stuck in those ‘what could have been’ thoughts rather than really… analyzing deeply the many problems in their relationship. At the end of the day while Jack & him had many problems and miscommunications, Tim did still love his dad and Jack loved him, and so when he’s gone that loss of the bond is definitely what Tim dwells on (among his other losses)
Then Tim’s whole… thing with the two fathers is complicated. Tim was already 16 when Jack passed and Bruce then adopted him about a year later, but Bruce had already been acting as a father figure/mentor since he was 13. It makes it this weird transition between ‘Bruce is kinda like a father to me -> Bruce is my father.’ and it doesn’t help that Bruce ‘dies’ not all that long after.
Thinking especially about Tim’s story in the halloween special, about him trying to deal with Bruce being gone by relating it to what he and Bruce had done after Jack passed. Tim definitely embraced Bruce as his parent despite the complicated relationship, and it just made the loss hit all that much harder, but Jack’s presence still lingers.
Tumblr media
(DCU Halloween Special 2009)
The ‘for someone’s approval’ here as he’s at his parents’ grave always stands out to me. Even though he doesn’t go all that deeply into his problems with Jack once he’s dead, I think this bit of it/idea does come up- that Tim feels like he continually had to be searching for his approval. I think there’s traces of that all the way back in Robin III in his fight with Jack about being sent boarding school to boarding school/feeling he’s only valued on the basis of accomplishment. I think this is probably as close to criticizing his dad as he really gets post-Jack’s death tbh. Even though he’s framing it in a ‘this is what i’m doing- looking for approval’ sort of way, I think it’s in part Tim being aware of the fact that the way his parents were with him made him feel the need to push so hard to try to earn it.
idk there’s… there’s a lot there to go into and I agree it’d have been nice to see it explored more on page. But I get why a lot of it wasn’t, because so much shit was happening non-stop for him there wasn’t really space to go into it all that deeply. Focusing just on the angst of the loss itself rather than the complex emotions that come from losing a parent you had a difficult relationship with is definitely… the easier thing to fit in when Tim’s also going through a ton of other losses too. (and then I mean, reboot happened and it became moot, and even tho the reboot stuff is now undone it’s like… been so long and it’s so unclear exactly how much is the same as before that the opportunity to explore it has kinda passed unless we get a good in-universe reason to establish why he’d be re-examining that stuff now)

The Sartorial Splendor of Timothy Drake: Or A Primer On The Many Costumes Of The Third Boy Wonder.
Tumblr media
Tim's had a lot of different costumes over the years. While not all of them were winners, most of them were at least good. Happily he only wore the pixie boots and sequined underoos a couple of times. By the late 80s that look was incredibly dated to point of being embarrassing. Okay, not as embarrassing as the Disco-Wing outfit but let’s face it, nothing is that hideous.
Tumblr media
Giving Tim’s Robin a new costume would not only help to make him unique from Dick or Jason but also definitely brought the Boy Wonder into the modern era. I refer, of course, to the classic First-Robin-To-Wear-Pants outfit.
Tumblr media
It’s a look that has served Tim well over the years. The uniform stayed pretty much unchanged for over a decade through multiple artists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first real change to Tim’s Robin costume came in 2006. In the “One Year Later” storyline, Tim showed off his newest look in Robin #148. The color scheme was supposed to be in honor of a fallen Superboy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some fans thought it was great but it’s always looked a bit too much like a union suit (long underwear) for me to be comfortable with it.
The next big change came in 2009 when Tim “graduated” from Robin (*cough*, *cough* was forced out) and became Red Robin. The first official Red Robin outfit was nifty. A lot of fans refer to it as the “condom head” look or suggested that Tim had mugged Dr. Midnight for his costume but I actually liked the cowl. It didn’t hurt that Marcus To became Tim’s primary artist early into the series. Under the pen of Mr. To Tim looked older than his (then) 17 years when in the suit.
Tumblr media
The Uternet version was good. It had a cutting edge, 21st century look to it, although we didn’t see much of it.
Tumblr media
Then came the dark times. The times lamented by fandom and known as the New-52. Tim wasn’t really Tim anymore. He was never Robin and his real name wasn’t even Tim Drake. This wannabe also had the most ridiculous outfit imaginable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah yes, 'cause nothing says "badass vigilante" like vegas showgirl wings. My only consultation is that New-52 was such a disaster for DC that it went away quickly. Thus DC rebooted their universe yet again in 2016.
Rebirth Tim was still Red Robin but this time DC decided to go with the tried and true. His outfit was remarkably similar to his original look. Since the bad guys were no longer pointing and laughing when Red Robin showed up to the fight, this was a definite improvement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Things got even better when Tim dropped the "Red" from his code name and was once again Robin. His classic look got a sharp update.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly, DC can't seem to learn the simple lesson that if something is working, you shouldn't mess around with it too much. Brian Michael Bendis decided that Tim needed a complete makeover. After a lot of time and discussion, the best Mr. Bendis’s supposedly creative genius could come up with was this....
Tumblr media
The mud brown monstrosity was quickly and thoroughly derided by the Tim Drake fan community. The only thing worse than the most boring, generic costume on the planet was the new code-name: Drake. The reaction was so bad that Bendis was forced to walk it all back within a few issues.
Tumblr media
Okay, I admit that I inserted the dialogue but come on, we were all thinking it! Happily, things have gone full circle for Tim. Not only is he Robin once more but he's totally killing it in the updated version of his first suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s unlikely that DC will let Tim do what he does best (be Robin) for too long.  After all, DC has a long rich history of running from ideas that make sense like they’re radioactive. In the meantime, though, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride while it lasts. I’ll always enjoying watching Tim’s adventures but, for me at least, Tim Drake flies best in his original colors.

Cass has a surprise visitor after returning home from Hong Kong. She hasn't been in Gotham long, a lot's changed, but there are still people here she's happy to see.
Cass glided through the halls of the penthouse; the floors were perfect for sliding around in her socks. Though, ‘halls’ was being generous, she supposed. It was large, the rooms were spacious, but there were only two hallways. So much smaller than the manor. Less rooms, though more people, and plenty of space to fit them all.
She could hear the chatter from the kitchen. The boys had decided to play a board game before she’d gotten back for the night. Dick wanted her to join in for the next round, but she found those games a little boring, and she wouldn’t fall for Tim’s puppy dog eyes tonight. But… she was tempted. It was a collaborative game, they’d explained. You don’t fight each other, you work together. That part, she liked.
She brushed past Tim’s guest room, which was slowly becoming more permanent. The door was cracked open, and she peeked inside. Neat and tidy, with trinkets lining his desk and shelves. Tim had changed a lot; his room was never this clean before. On a hunch she poked her head around the door. Behind it sat a mound of dirty clothes, just next to the bathroom door. Smiling to herself, she noted the mess of products on the sink. He’d changed, but not all the way.
Damian’s door, she found closed all the way. Tim said he liked privacy, so she moved on. Dick’s door was wide open. The room was empty, aside from a messy bed. Hers was the same.
At least she thought her room was empty.
As she approached, she heard something moving inside, or someone. Whoever it was, was light on their feet, not very large, in the range of 120-150 pounds, and a bit anxious. The door was closed. She thought for a moment, and swiftly threw the door open, without making a sound.
A blond girl in jeans and a green sweater stared out the window at the night sky.
“Stephanie?” She recognized. The girl jumped and swiveled around.
“Cass?” A joyous grin broke out across her face, though her shoulders stayed tense and anxious. They quickly strode toward each other and met in the middle of the room. Steph’s hands twitched, reaching up, as if asking for-
Cass buried Steph in a hug at the realization. Steph laughed, giggling at her enthusiasm, and squeezed her back tightly. “I missed you.” They said at the same time. Steph laughed again in delight.
They parted, and Steph sat on the edge of the bed, Cass following suit. She still looked a bit nervous but radiated happiness as well. They sat there, staring at each other for a moment. Cass smiled, also a bit anxiously, but eagerly, she hadn’t seen her oldest friend in forever.
“Are you back for good?” Steph broke the silence. Cass nodded, she’d decided, after the gates of Gotham case, to stay. The family had fallen apart after Bruce had died, but she was ready to give it another shot, and so far, things were going well. Board games, movie nights. ‘Team bonding’, Dick called it. It had only been a week, but she’d gotten a turn to pick already. Rooftop tag. It was fun.
“Things are good.” She replied. Damian was starting to trust her, and Dick and Tim were happy. And well, she was happy too. She loved having her own city, but it’d been lonely. Spending time with people was exhausting, but her family made it easier somehow.
“That’s good.” Steph replied. Not a lie, but she still looked anxious. A thought flashed through her mind.
“You’re not happy I’m home?” She asked quickly, her heart sinking at the notion. Steph’s eyes widened in surprise.
“What? No! Cass, I’m so happy you came back.” Not a lie. Cass sighed in relief, she didn’t want anyone to be upset she was back.
“Then why are you nervous?” Steph’s hands were fidgeting slightly, hadn’t stopped since they’d met.
“Huh, I’m not- Okay never mind.” Her shoulders dropped sheepishly. “I can’t lie to you, can I?”
“Nope.” Cass popped the p, just like Steph used to whenever they talked before. No one could lie to her. Well. Almost no one.
“Okay but… promise you won’t be mad.” She looked serious. Cass nodded slowly, watching as Steph pulled a box off the corner of the bed and carefully opened the lid. Her old Batgirl costume was inside.
“Why would I get mad over that?” She gave the suit to Steph after all, she had her Black Bat suit now.
“You let me borrow it and I ruined it!” Steph’s voice was guilty. Cass looked at the costume again. Bullet holes and tears marked it.
“Are you okay?” Cass asked, those were a lot of holes.
“Ugh, none of us deserve you.” Grateful. For what? Cass tilted her head to show the confusion. “I thought you would be mad because you can’t use it anymore. I thought you would want it back.” Cass shrugged.
“I have a new suit now.” She assessed. She didn’t really care what she wore. Besides, if she wanted another Batgirl costume, Alfred could make one.
“Don’t you… want to be Batgirl again?” Steph sounded concerned, but Cass wasn’t sure why.
“I’m always Batgirl.” Cass stated. She thought for a moment. “Like Tim is still Robin.” It didn’t matter what they called each other; they were still them. “And you’re always a Spoil-sport.” She grinned smugly at the pun. Steph rolled her eyes, but she was amused.
“Well, you can be Batgirl if you want. I kind of miss eggplant.” Her eyes twinkled mischievously, and the corners of her lips twitched up into a smile.
“It’s a good color on you.” Cass agreed.
“How about, we both be Batgirl, and we can switch costumes, and no one will know who’s coming.” Stephanie grinned in excitement. Cass grinned too. It sounded fun.
“Deal.” She flopped back on her bed. Steph followed suit. “How was Gotham?”
“It’s been wild. It’s different, you know.” Cass hummed in agreement. “I’m in college now, that’s going well. My mom’s working as a nurse. I mean, you’re right, things are good. It’s just… different.”
“Batman and Robin.” Cass noted. Steph sighed.
“Yeah, I mean it sucks Bruce died, but Dick’s doing great. And Damian’s coming around.” Steph shifted, turning to face her. “I’m sorry he died, I know he just adopted you, that must suck.” Cass took a deep breath, watching sympathy pour out of Steph’s baby blue eyes. It did suck. Her chest panged in regret, wishing they’d had more time together. But she didn’t want to focus on the past.
“Yes.” She thought for a moment. “I still don’t understand.” She confessed. Butterflies swirled in her stomach, she didn’t want to make Steph upset, but she needed to know. “Why did you leave?” It had hurt, felt like her world was ending. It had hurt Tim too, and Bruce. Steph grimaced, she was clearly uncomfortable, rolling back, she faced the ceiling once more.
“I was mad at first. I didn’t really choose to go.” She admitted. Cass understood, she’d been made to do things she hadn’t wanted to do before. It sucked. “But it was good too. It took time to heal.” She pointed at her head. “Up here too.”
“You hit your head?” Cass had been shot in the head once. Wasn’t fun.
“No like. I needed to think things out. Get in the right headspace.” She shook her head, not really understanding.
“Why’d you go to Hong Kong?” Steph asked. She thought for a moment.
“It hurt. To be around people.” She wasn’t sure how to describe it. She couldn’t stay in the manor. It was painful to be in the Cave. She never bled, but her chest had always ached, and something felt stuck in her throat. So, she left. And being alone hurt too, but in a different way. Steph looked at her sympathetically.
“That’s why I stayed, thinking about coming back hurt. I was scared, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I just… didn’t know what to do.” Groaning, she rolled over again. “It’s a mess.” Regretful. But a little hopeful. “Can we… still be friends?” The hope made her heart flutter.
“Yep.” She agreed. Steph smiled, warmly, like the sun.
“Thanks Cassie.” She didn’t really understand what she was being thanked for, but as the nickname rolled off Stephanie’s tongue, she felt more at home than she had in years. They lay still, enjoying each other’s company for a while longer.
Eventually, Steph sat up, hopping off the bed. “Alright, let’s go do something fun kay? How bout we go kick the guys’ asses at Just Dance.”
“Wait.” Cass walked over to her suitcase. “I got you something.” She pulled out a box. She’d collected things, from everywhere she visited. Picked up things that reminded her of family. She hadn’t really planned on giving them away, but now she had the real people, she didn’t need them anymore. She pulled out a purple ‘Lucky Cat’.
“Oh my gosh! I love it!” Steph cradled it carefully in her hands. “Cass this is so sweet, I love it.” Cass beamed; she liked it too. And she made Steph happy with it, maybe it really was lucky. Steph smiled wider, clasping her hand and dragging her out through the hall, running so she could slide behind her on the perfectly slippery floors.
And so, with whatever luck the cat could grant them, they were on their way to kicking butt at Just Dance. As the night wore on, laughs grew louder, and Cass was reminded again, how things had changed, but how change wasn’t always bad. The penthouse wasn’t as big as the Manor, and Gotham wasn’t as big as Hong Kong, but with her family, somehow her life seemed larger, and fuller again.
Things could have turned out better, but they could have been worse too. And they would get better. Much better, as long as they all stuck together. There would be more difficult conversations to be had, but it was reassuring, knowing that after all they’d been through, she still had her best friend by her side.

Teen 1,276 words Tim Drake & Dick Grayson & Jason Todd & Damian Wayne & Bruce Wayne part of my batkids shenanigans series
Summary:
Dick is just trying to get in touch with his inner angsty teenage girl. He didn’t ask for an existential crisis. Tim is making him have one anyway.
- - - - -
“…and it’s not like most plot-driven things – movies, books, shows, whatever – where the side stories might be briefly referenced but you don’t have to read them to understand what’s going on. The side games are absolutely crucial to understanding the plot.”
Jason snickered as Tim ranted about the Kingdom Hearts series. Sure, all Jason said was that he had only played the second game and was thinking about playing the first to understand the plot better, but that was ridiculous!
“If you play the first game and then go straight to the second, you’ll end up completely lost,” Tim huffed. “It starts with totally different characters and very little explanation of where they came from. That’s why you play ‘Days’ and ‘Re:Chain of Memories’—”
“Shhh,” Jason hissed, covering Tim’s mouth. “Do you hear Avril Lavigne?”
Tim paused just before he bit Jason’s hand and listened. Down the hall, he could faintly hear music.
“’All this time you were pretending. So much for my happy ending.’” Okay, that was definitely Avril Lavigne. With a tilt of his head, Tim gestured for them to investigate.
Down the hall, one of the lesser used sitting rooms had its door cracked open as the music spilled from inside. Tim slowly pushed the door open more and poked his head in. From the line of heat along his back, he knew Jason was leaning over him. That, and the chin that rested on his head because Jason was an asshole that took every opportunity to remind Tim that he’s shorter.
Tim blinked. Above him, Jason turned a near-silent snicker into a cough. Laying upside-down on the couch – feet dangling over the back and hair brushing the floor – was Dick, lip-syncing the words as dramatically as possible without changing position.
“Dick? What are you doing?” Tim asked, giving up the pretense of being sneaky and just walking in. The quiet curse behind him told him that Jason hadn’t been prepared to suddenly lose his support.
Either their older brother knew they were there or he was too good to visibly startle – each as equally likely – but it meant that Dick didn’t jump or even bother looking at them. “I’m getting in touch with my inner angsty teenage girl,” he explained.
Jason sprawled on the other end of the couch, leaving Tim to sit on the coffee table. “Any particular reason, Dickiebird?”
Dick spread his hands in an approximation of a shrug. “It be like that sometimes.”
Here’s the thing: Tim had gone through a bit of a phase years ago, and during that phase he was curious about when Avril Lavigne’s songs were released – he was a weird kid, okay? He never expected that information to come in handy, but it was his job as a little brother to torment his siblings. “Hey Dick,” Tim grinned, “guess how old I was when this song came out?”
“Why?” Dick asked, already sounding suspicious.
“I was about a year old, depending on the month,” Tim told him cheerfully.
“Nooo,” Dick whined, “Tim, why? Oh my god, you were a baby! And now you’re a teenager that’s nearly an adult and I’m old!”
“I was twenty-one,” Bruce scoffed, leaning against the doorway and drawing everyone’s attention. “I’m thirty-seven now. Please Dick, tell me about being old.”
“You don’t understand, B! At least you were already an adult, and now you’re just a more adult-adult. Tim was a tiny little baby and now he’s practically all grown up! I was a kid, and now I’m an actual adult! With a job! I’m having a crisis right now!”
Tim hummed. “Then I probably shouldn’t mention that her song ‘Sk8er Boi’ is older than I am.”
Dick wailed as Jason started howling with laughter so much that he grabbed his ribs.
“Tim! Why would you say that?!”
Damian walked in right then, scowling. “What idiotic nonsense is Drake spewing now that has you in a fit, Grayson?” Before anyone could answer, his brows furrowed and he added, “And why are all of you listening to such old music?”
That set Jason off again and Tim joined in. Their combined laughter wasn’t nearly enough to drown out Dick’s small, quiet sob as he slid off the couch to be a human puddle of existential crisis on the floor. “Babies,” he whispered. “I’m surrounded by babies. All of you are children. Oh my god.”
“Hey! I’m not a fuckin’ child, I’m twenty goddamn years old!” Jason argued.
Dick shrieked, “You can’t even legally drink!”
“Did you know you’re older than Google by three years, Dick?” Tim said. Dick whimpered.
Rolling his eyes, Bruce lightly cuffed Tim on the back of the head. “Give him a break, kiddo.”
“I have yet to have an answer as to why you all are listening to this infernal racket,” Damian demanded.
Within a couple seconds, Jason went from wheezing for air to completely solemn as he looked at Damian. “Sometime, kid, you just fuckin’ need to get in touch with your inner angsty teenage girl, and Avril Lavigne is the shit for that.” His faux-serious expression shattered with a smirk as he tacked on, “Also, I’m pretty sure Jon’s got this album.”
Damian scoffed and stormed out, muttering about being surrounded by idiots – Dick must have shown him Lion King then – and Tim snickered again. On the floor, Dick was still muttering and moaning about children and babies and “I’m so old, I’m like the Crypt Keeper”.
Tim bit his lip to stop himself from telling Dick that Freaky Friday – which was already apparently a remake – came out about a month after he was born. That could be saved for the next time Dick had a crisis about his age.
- - -
Two weeks later, Tim stopped halfway through ranting at Dick for only playing the main titles of Kingdom Hearts to stare down the hall. Much like the last time he was on a tangent about the game series, he could hear Avril Lavigne playing from somewhere. Except the only rooms down that hall were their bedrooms, and Jason and Dick stood on either side of him. The three glanced at each other, and Dick immediately grinned and bounced down the hall. Jason was smirking as he followed, and Tim trailed after hoping this wouldn’t end with Damian trying to stab him again.
Dick burst in as soon as he reached Damian’s room, where the music was definitely blaring from behind the door. “Dami, you’re listening to Avril Lavigne!”
When Tim peaked in, Damian was face-planted on his bed with his face towards the foot of the bed.
“I do not wish to talk about it,” he snapped, muffled as it was.
“Aw,” Dick pouted, “do you want a hug?”
Snarling, Damian lifted his head up enough to glare at all three of them. “I would prefer for you to leave my room at once!”
“Alright Dickie,” Jason said, grabbing and hauling Dick out, “leave the brat to fuckin’ wallow in his anti-social, pre-teen angst. Sometimes you just need to angst it out alone, as you damn well know.”
“Aren’t you the literature nerd? I mean, really, Little Wing, ‘angst it out’?” Dick snarked.
Tim pulled Damian’s door closed and followed after. “Hey, language is fluid and always changing,” he added.
Gesturing at him for emphasis, Jason declared, “Fuckin’ exactly! All words were made up at some point, and English is already a fucking mess of words from different languages smashed together! And at least a shit ton of the rules have exceptions!”
Tim nodded, “Like the ‘I before E except after C’ rule.”
“Here we go again,” Dick muttered.
“You fuckin’ started it!”

Hi... I think I've been following you for most of my time here on this hellsite. You have successfully made me Very Curious about the BatFamily with your posts and was wondering what comics you would suggest I read for BatFamily content? I haven't read anything in DC.
Okay I reblogged a few rec-list that I found that gave more comprehensive lists (here, here, here, and here), but I’ll also give you some of my recs!
What you really have to keep in mind when reading DC and Batman/BatFam especially is that the writing/characterization is SHIT. It’s the love we have for the characters that keep us going. I often joke the first rule of being a DC fan is hating the content. Take the comics with a grain of salt because the characters, once you get to know them, are so incredibly dimensional and their dynamics with each other is the heart and soul of enjoying the BatFam. Like my favourite BatFam content is headcanons and stuff like that! Now onto the comics... (I’m a huge Dick and Dami fan and I think it’ll show in my rec)
Recommended Reading:
Basically all of Batman & Robin (2009) (Dick as Batman and Damian as Robin), especially if Grant Morrison is listed as a writer because he is the best Batman writer imo
Batman: Black Mirror (Detective Comics #871-881). Dick still as Batman. I’m a huge Dick Grayson fan and it’s stories like this that really do it
Batman: Gates of Gotham. Dick is still Batman but he interacts with his siblings as the Caped Crusader
Battle For the Cowl is filled with interactions both good and bad of the BatFam. Dick is forced to become what he hates most
A Death in the Family (prepare for tears)
Nightwing Year One
Grayson. Can be iffy at times but the cross comic implications and the weight on the BatFam outside of Dick Grayson is the real take away. AND WHEN DICK COMES BACK… It’s some of the best BatFam interactions
Robin War crosses so many different comics and includes so many different characters and in doing so, “Robin” takes on a life beyond the mask
Robin: Son of Batman. Damian can be a hard character for people to love but give this story a chance. He’s easily one of my favourites to ever dawn the mantle of Robin
Tim Drake’s solo run as Robin as well as his Red Robin series are both 👌 His inner monologue in Red Robin will give you life. In Robin, he becomes tied to Stephanie Brown, a new member of the BatFam
Batman: Preludes to the Wedding is a short series in which each Batboy gets their own story and you see how much of a family they are as they work to getting Batman ready for his wedding to Catwoman
Red Hood and the Outlaws is *chefs kiss* but it’s about Jason Todd/Red Hood and characters not from the BatFam. But if you’re looking for Jason Todd content and story lines, it’s this one. Particularly the New 52 run or DC Rebirth
I know I missed some, but these are the ones that came to me (and based off what was on my shelf since most of my comics are packed up in my closet). If anyone else has any suggestions,

He's A Peach He's A Doll He's A Friend To Me (He Will Never Be Free)
by smashakdsasdfbasd Tim Drake was a young boy who was neglected by his parents but, his other parents… well, that’s a different story. Words: 290, Chapters: 1/?, Language: English Fandoms: Coraline (2009), Batman - All Media Types Rating: General Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death Characters: Bruce Wayne, Jason Todd, Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, The Beldam, Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain, Alfred Pennyworth Additional Tags: Crack, Crossover, The Bedlam (coraline), Tim Drake is Not Okay, Tim Drake Angst, Tim Drake Needs a Break, he gets a break, but not that kind of break via https://ift.tt/Fxq8B71
