really fucking sick and tired of people who really fucking love the eddie book jumping on people who don't like or are even remotely critical of it's posts and like crusading their opinions around from the top of their high horses and shoving it down our throats.
if you like the book, great! that's awesome! love that for you! i am genuinely glad that you were able to find good in it and enjoy it!!
but not everyone did, and not everyone is going to agree with you. so, instead of going on some grand crusade where you find every single post that includes anything even remotely negative or negative adjacent or even neutrally critical and spending ALL this time and effort trying to provide unwanted rebuttals to every single thing, maybe you should just stay in your lane and find people who DO like the book and chat about it with them.
because i can PROMISE YOU, none of us appreciate it when you come onto our posts and start accusing us of "hating on" the author or "being rude" about her and her work and RIDICULOUS shit like that.
being critical of something and pointing out it's flaws is NOT inherently hating on it. i, frankly, do not know where people got that notion, but it's not fucking true so can we fucking quit assuming it is? and, critiquing something is also NOT the same as saying this is shit and it sucks and the author is a piece of garbage. again, where the fuck that came from is beyond me. you can be critical of something and still enjoy it. as soooo many of you love to point out, it's not perfect, why should it be perfect? so D U H. of course that means criticism can and should arise???
also. hot take (by which i mean ice fucking cold because it's NOT a fucking hot take), but going around toting FALSE facts as part of your "defense" does not make you or your argument look good. you, like the author, should maybe do a basic fact check first. 🙃
tldr, if you like the book, that's genuinely great, but stay in your fucking lane and stop seeking out posts from people who didn't like it to start shit in the notes.
#flight of icarus#stranger things#this has happened to me and to so many of my friends and im fucking SICK of it#i didn't even hate the book either!! i thought it was just okay#and yet i STILL get all these book lovers jumping down my throat about things i say about the book#things that - HONESTLY are not even like that scathing!!!!!#like god damn all im asking for is a little BASIC effort from the author and they all think thats me asking for her head on a platter#its NOT#i have no problem with the author#she's whatever to me honestly just a vessel through which the book was given to us#ALSO she is some nebulous blob way outside my orbit. AS IN any critiques i have of her and her work are NOT direct assaults on her???#like i dont fucking KNOW her#im not saying any of this to her face#she is a published writer she should KNOW the risks she is taking when she publishes her writing#not everyone is going to like it! there are going to be people who are critical of it! there are going to be people who hate it!#critiques and pointing out mistakes and wishing for things to have been different is not a fucking direct attack#those things are actually pretty fucking common responses to ANYTHING#and a lot of times theyre actually meant as useful helpful things geared towards improvement and not something to tear someone down with#some people on the internet need to go touch grass and learn how to CRITICALLY THINK again#the world is not as black and white as you think#n e ways. rant over. if you stuck around through all of that kudos to you. i am just. at the end of my rope with this bullshit.

I was looking at a few posts about autism (as one does) and it just suddenly clicked into place a fundamental thing about Yuri's character that I'd been grasping at, but hadn't really been able to adequately identify. I still have a much longer and more thorough analysis going through a whole lot of my thoughts on Yuri's character and her experience of autism that i'm working on (of which this will likely be a component), but I thought I'd share this separately just to emphasize.
Post I saw which made this click for me was making fun of the fact that most media depicting impaired empathy in autistic characters explicitly depicts them with this unflappable confidence of never having been rejected by people they love. The crux of this is that in actual reality, autistic people almost always have that experience at some point, for some behavior, for reasons they don't really understand. "There is an invisible line where people will get sick of you, and you have no warning of when you're about to cross it." So frequently, autistic people attempt to ride a razor thin edge, walking on constant eggshells to desperately attempt to avoid crossing that line.
Very often autistic people will attempt to avoid doing anything at all which could be considered weird, or off-putting, and will try their absolute hardest to do things in a way that is acceptable to other people, sometimes to the point of outright suppressing their emotions, because they are afraid that they'll say something just wrong enough that the people they care about will push them away, and they don't understand WHY it happened, but they know it's THEIR fault. Sometimes masking is fighting to appear aloof all the time because you can't regulate your emotions in a way that is acceptable to other people.
And holy fucking Jesus, that fits the exact mold of what I've been trying to talk about with the particular way Yuri's anxieties manifest.
It really feels to me like Yuri has this constant fear of breaking the "rules" of socializing, despite not really understanding what those rules even are. She's constantly afraid of saying something wrong, when she doesn't even know what wrong would be, she's just sure everyone ELSE will know it when they hear it. I think a huge part of her social anxiety comes from her own understanding of herself as a very weird person who doesn't really get a lot of how to socialize, and it seems to me like she's probably dealt with her fair share of social rejection and isolation based on those traits. She then felt she had to take responsibility for those traits, probably because it's the one thing she can change, and she is the one common denominator in all of these bad situations (This is something which is pretty common, actually! "Everyone else can socialize just fine, and I have so much difficulty with it! I must just be broken in some way. I have to try super hard to be normal to make friends!")
I think a big part of why it's so apparent in the Literature Club is because she really thinks she's found a place where she can make friends in spite of all of her issues, so when she starts...being herself, and receives even the smallest HINT of pushback, she overcorrects and tries to rein all of herself in to fix her "mistake", because she really wants to make friends here, and doesn't want them to reject her as well.
She's had this experience of others pushing her away for being weird so often that, coupled with her acknowledged trouble for reading situations, when anybody responds poorly to something and she recognizes it, she immediately overcorrects out of fear of being an annoying burden to everyone around her, and that "correction" consists of suppressing herself into being "normal" (or at least "less weird"), because she believes nobody could actually like her just for being who she is. There's something wrong with her fundamentally, and to make friends, for people to like her and want to be around her, she has to "fix" herself.
it's just, like...
it's really hard for me to interpret Yuri's character that doesn't involve her being somewhere on the spectrum, bros. she's written with such delicately constructed autistic coding, despite the appearance of just being a hackneyed weird girl visual novel trope. she deserves the world.......

Dreblr Survey Results Pt.3 - Confessions.
So. The time has come. There was a section at the end of the survey where it simply said to "say something unhinged," and you really did! Here are some of the most entertaining ones.
Again, I'm pasting these directly from the form. If anyone thinks I wrote this stuff myself I think I'll go and sit under the sea for several hours.
⚠️ A lot of these are NSFW. I'm serious, please be responsible :)
Tumblr media
People being really really funny
something unhinged
Something unhinged
Ur mom is unhinged
penis
Calls for violence against everyone who has ever wronged Dream
I want to blend (with a blender) c!q and c!sam and throw the substance to the wolves
Quackity should have died
I think Tommy should have stayed dead
Dream should have actually tortured tommy
Exile was hilarious. :)
Calls for… forgiveness?
they should've made up with c q in the finale streams
I forgive Q. We don't know what really happened behind the scenes.
Sam, both c! and cc!
Sam is Daddy and I know for a fact he reads AO3 fics that man is NOT normal
cc!sam closeted c!awesamdream shipper
I don't think anything I say can top Sam having a scrapbook of sexy criminals
you know how sam has a bunch of clones of himself to inhabit. alright now imagine him doing that with dream. this is how the awesamdream baby can still win.
c!Sam and c!Dream are fundamentally very different characters with very different wordviews but one of the few things they have in common is praise kink.
I don't think this counts as shipping but that's what I'm calling it
c!dnf gay sex post prison arc happy ending (REAL) (I SAW IT ON THE SCRIPT DOCUMENTS IN DREAM'S COMPUTER)
um um c!dnf in gay love idk they are the only ones for each other sorry
DNF kiss real
CDNF IS OVERHYPEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD I SAID IT AND I MEANT IT
If c!dreamnotnap had slept together i think dream would have stayed sane
i think s apnap fucks d ream with his small dick and they both love it and love each amen 🙏
i want to get c!sapnap pregnant
The most superior ship is Dream/Technoblade/Punz/DreamXD/Foolish/Kristin/Philza Because in this household we love big polycules
i think dream should've done more crime and fucked awesamdude
Dream and Sam fucked in that prison
C!DREAM IS A TRANS WOMAN AND AWESAMDREAM FUCKED NASTY IN THAT PRISON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dreblr's overwhelming preoccupation with c!Awesamdream is getting kinda worrying ngl
dream and quackity are what I seek in a relationship
c dreamity is my otp i love those unhinged bastards kissing eachother
Dreambur needs more love and I’m tired of it being pushed aside
is it even unhinged to assume that Dream fucked Fundy, Fundy's dad (Wilbur) and Fundy's Grandpa (Phil) I feel like that's just a regular sentimet on dreblr by now
dreamza prevails
Dnb best ship
Doomsday trio deserves to fuck nasty imho
He fucked that old man
c!Dream needs to get dicked down I think that would solve a lot of problems post nut clarity if you will
NSFW so don't feel like you need to put this in any compilation i completely understand BUT whenever the c!sam cuck chair crosses my dash, in my head it's traditional dynamic omegaverse c!dnb. c!sam's an alpha who wanted to show off to omega c!dream before claiming and mating with him for their mutual first time. he decides to do this by challenging alpha c!techno to a fight, but to his shock, lost. badly. he has to watch alpha c!techno mate with and claim c!dream right in front of him, because watching such a clearly superior alpha demonstrate his abilities causes c!dream to go into heat and c!techno is happy to help him with that. he's been looking for a mate anyway and c!dream just so happens to be his type. meanwhile, c!dream wants to give c!techno as many litters as his body can handle and barely remembers who that other guy in the room even is, even after his heat calms down.
Dream harems? I guess?
c!Dream has/should have a harem
Dream is a pretty boy and should have taken off his mask to start a harem to prevent war.
Things that I really don't think are that unhinged around here, given their competition
i was such a crazy c!dream apologist in 2021 i actually had a dream about it
I have a spreadsheet with every tag, character and relationship tag for every dsmp fanfciton I read and liked/found interesting.
I know people will say it is/was kinda cringy but I will never think that or regret being part of the fandom (that's not really unhinged I couldn't think of anything sorry lol)
I know its delulu beyond belief and i will never say this not anonymously but sometimes i fantasize about if i was able to be friends with dream team
Wilbur wasn't a hero or "good guy" at any point in his storyline.
Doomsday was 100% justified. (...is that unhinged enough or do I need to pick something else?)
People being too polite for this question
Sorry I am not THAT unhinged
no, but i thank you for the opportunity! I am sadly to hinged, normal even
And more!
George is the main character and we got robbed by not having him meet c!Dream again!! but in meta it is because they are together in real life and who needs their depression character anymore in that senario.
c!DTeam reconciliation arc was always intended
c!drunz are necrophiliacs.
Okay. Okay here me out here OK. So. Imagine Norman (bald guy) is c!schlatt and Pat (white haired dude) is c!Phil OK yw ENJOYYYYYYY : https://youtu.be/b7Bj1dBMYBE?si=Cz79CEISAg6EcMYS
Techno's age of 3 is actually canon and New L'Manberg comitted infanticed
C!Tubbo is the best faction leader. The bar isn't high but I think Technically he did well
c!foolish rights unlimited forever. he deserved blood sacrifices
Cc Sam and Dram were the most normal about the prison
I think quackity should have gotten to do more on screen cannibalism
If c!Quackity had taken hormones to balance his insane lust (Wilbur, Technoblade, Schlatt, etc) he would never have gone crazy send post
I think a Daedalus arc with Quackity instead would've been such a downhill for Dream's sanity. Send tweet.
in a server where we have a c!dream made of oreo cream au . quackity eats him in prison . there is fanart .
Please sir please sir please no more
✨️truama ✨️
all of dreblr contains more competency in media literacy than the rest of tumblr combined
i love how these characters hate each other, keep hurting each other, but tied to each other in a way they just can't shake off.
the only way for c!Dream to be properly Redeemed is to live out the worst thing he subjected another person to: *cue his tropical island paradise getaway arc, sunbathing on the beach with no one to bother him except for friends occasionally visiting* #trust
c!Dream was building an underwater stone temple to satan in order to pray for the apocalypse change my mind
C!Dream is very anthy himemiya coded
c!dream is a cow hybrid and has 4 beautiful tits
I feel like the only cc!dream enjoyer who's also a c!tommy enjoyer
C!dream eggs Monday is the flag of dreblr 🥚
Reminder that C!Dream is a stripper
Dream spoonfeeding post
i think dream should've been worse. as a treat. let him murder more minors please.
Prison feels like cc!Dream’s little whump arc. Also, prisontrio favorite grouping. The best angst and whump in town.
Whenever I write whump fanfics it feels like I’m sticking my blorbos in an empty pickle jar and shaking it like a kid holding a snowglobe for the first time
Todo es un invento del gobierno
Today's culinary special is teeth cake
i think we should all collectively gaslight people/edit the wiki to try and convince people omegaverse was canon to the DSMP. or make a fake second wiki.
*grabs you by the shoulders* ok so after wilbur died and fundy was alone and grieving he kept getting picked on for being an orphan by the rest of the server, for example puffy built an obsidian box around his house in new lmanburg and labelled it an orphanage. fundy was already dealing with the loss of his dad + the appearance of a ghost that was supposed to be his dad but didn't remember half of his life, and now he had to deal with this too. so he starts to mine it meanwhile jack manifold is trying to cheer him up, not helped by the fact that ghostbur keeps hanging around despite fundy not wanting him there. Jack tries to get fundy to look on the bright side, he says that the obsidian box around his house could function as protection from tnt, and so, to prove that's bullshit, fundy places a tnt beside the house he spent so long building and blows up a portion of it. Destroys his own work, a part of his home just to prove a point. It's a self destructive act of defiance. Ghostbur and jack both agree that was unnecessary and jack maintains it could protect the house from outside attacks. fundy continues to take the wall down. Ghostbur fixes the hole in fundy's house, but leaves evidence of the explosion. He puts a sight down saying "-CAUTION- Fallen debris". Now, I need you to know how insane I am over the fact that after doomsday, after the entirety of new Lmanburg was decimated, that sign was the only part of fundy's home that remained unbroken. A sign, surrounded by the rubble of a fallen nation, destruction as far as the eye can see, warning of fallen debris. A sign for a self destructive act of defiance. I am going to eat drywall about this
Okay, one more. People I'm hugging
i miss technoblade
I really want to be a part of dreblr but I feel like they're all cool kids and I'm the quiet weirdo kid hiding in the corner. It feels like if you weren't there for the Founding of the Great Dreblr, there's no way in now. Kinda like you can't get hired as a restaurant janitor as your first job if you haven't already owned the place for 5 years prior
I am in your walls
Thanks everyone for forcing my eyeballs to see this! Reading your responses was certainly an experience I'll be stuck with!

Ghost and Soap tattoo headcanons because the brain worms demand it right now!
In my mind at least Ghost has a lot more tattoos than just his sleeve, it's just not common knowledge because until he gets together with Soap no one ever really sees him undressed except maybe for medical staff.
The sleeve was the beginning but he's adding to them whenever leave allows, on his chest and back, on his legs and his other arms and even his hands. Ghost is also the kind of guy that is very stoic while getting tattoos, the pain doesn't really bother him, he's been through so much worse, but he's not the guy who's chatting with the artist either. He just sits through it. Similarly afterwards he's pretty disciplined about the aftercare required. Sun rarely is an issue with the way he dresses and he plans his leave times around the appointments so he can take it easy for a while.
When the inevitable itching starts he just glares at the spot, never actually touching it, but he gets fucking irritated for a few days.
And while he's not the best at taking care of himself in many aspects of his life I can actually see him take good care of his tattoos in the long run, because I imagine him getting them to cover up scars, especially those left by Roba and his men. It's his way of reclaiming his body. The motive itself often isn't as important as the fact that he chose to have it put at that spot. The meaning isn't in the design either it's in the fact that it was his decision to wear it, unlike the scars that were forced upon him.
And then there's Soap, he's only got the one tattoo that we know, at least when he meets Ghost.
Its faded from sunlight exposure and because he never took proper care of it while it healed, even caught himself scratching it once or twice when the itching started. Its always exposed and he rarely thinks of putting sunscreen on, so naturally the tattoo has a hard time and the colour fades quick.
So at some point Ghost asks him if he wants it touched up. He's making an appointment with the artist he trusts anyways and he'd be happy to bring him along. Ghost knows that for Soap his tattoo does have meaning, that he's fucking proud to have made it into the SAS and that he got kinda sad comparing the crisp lines of Ghost's tattoos to his own.
Soap ends up agreeing although he's wary since he can't see it go better than it did last time. But if anything the fact that Ghost is allowing him to come along for this is such a huge sign of trust that he just can't refuse it.
And Ghost's tattoo artist is going to have to recover for a moment because Soap is so fucking chatty compared to Ghost, the pain is kinda exciting to him so he talks more and more and the artist hears more words out of Ghost in response to Johnny than he ever did before. Would wonder if it was the same man if they weren't literally continuing work on a tattoo they had started.
Once they are both done Ghost makes sure Soap takes proper care of the new ink. Threatens to tie him to the bed if he starts scratching at night (something Soap finds entirely too exciting). Shares his care products with him and makes him wrap it up for the first weeks and months. Is always at hand with some sun screen, at least for the arm, even when they are in the middle of nowhere. It's worth the trouble to squeeze some sun screen in his pack when he gets to see Johnny so happy about how good his tattoo looks again.
And once he sees how a properly taken care of piece will look Soap wants more. Ends up accompanying Ghost to the studio whenever he goes.
He's creative, most of what ends up on him is based on his own sketches, always with meaning behind it for him. The next thing he gets is a certain skull based on a specific mask that he wears close to his heart (making Ghost go through emotions he wasn't aware he was capable of having). He also helps Ghost with giving some of his ideas form often redrawing endless variations to make sure Simon doesn't just pick one that seems okay and fitting for its purpose but one he really likes to look at too. Poor man almost loses it when he sees one of his sketches inked on Ghost for the first time and its a good thing they are on leave because he's not gonna let him out of their bed any time soon. Purely to protect the new ink from the sun of course.

Episode 36 reactions!
I don't think one single minute passed this episode without me bursting out in laughter XD
Tumblr media
I will get what interesting details I can, though! And here we have soap opera male character who has a Betrothed in the West. Interesting! Why did they separate, and how did she end up in Westalis, or he in Ostania? Did she defect and is waiting for him to join her? I need the full context, Berlint in Love!
Tumblr media
Looks like one of the things that make Becky rush to be a grown-up is how she can't wait to have romantic feelings and relationships. Gurl, you're six. Pick up a doll or a ball.
The way the next scene was shown (hilarious) it looks like it was Anya who first picked up the phone, and didn't even make a sound before Becky started off her rant. Picking up the phone as a kid is quite a responsibility!
Tumblr media
The music suddenly went full humor shoujo there XD
I love how Martha is already onto Becky.
Tumblr media
She's like "Yo maybe reel it in a little"
The way all three of them are in completely different wavelengths is hilarious. I guess Twilight, the honey-trap master, sees Becky as the girl she is and cannot imagine she'd ever have such passionate imaginings with him.
The hell, though. I've met my favourite actor from up close in a convention and that was pretty much my reaction while being close to him. I feel Becky but someone needs to tell her of this thing called parasocial relationship--
Tumblr media
WHAAAAAT
I had my eyes glued to the screen for this. It's definitely not surprising that the Blackbells would hire such an experienced bodyguard for Becky, but it's very interesting how it was pointed out to us! I wonder what we'll get to see next with her! (reminder: anime only!)
Tumblr media
Becky really thinks she lives in a shoujo story doesn't she XD
I mean, Anya thinks she lives in a Spy Wars story so it's not that surprising XD
I love how in the "new" family photo Wiesel is added in front of Bond!
Tumblr media
This episode is full chaos and I love it.
Seriously, the way Anya's powers work for her character is amazing. Usually, we'd get to see those imaginings even if she didn't have telepathy. But since she can see them with us, she gets a fair place as - almost - an audience proxy. And I mean, yeah, why wouldn't Anya be excited at the idea of super tasty food all of the time (even when papa is super busy), not having to do chores, and having fun family outings all of the time?
Tumblr media
Completely different wavelengths, I tell you. How does this show make me love misunderstandings XD
And then a fourth wavelength is added and it's just! You don't know where to begin!
Tumblr media
Poor Bond was heartbroken that Becky didn't notice him! Poor boy!
I find it really funny that this episode happened now, just a little after we got heavy hints that Loid is falling hard for Yor, and Becky is still like "I will win his heart with my six-year-old charm!"
Tumblr media
If you count Bond dealing with getting rejected, that's five different wavelengths in one single screencap. No-one knows what's going on, not even Anya the telepath or Twilight the master spy.
Tumblr media
Those are not the family teacups! Interesting choice. Also Becky's face, yeah that's exactly how I was when approaching my favourite actor for my photo shoot with him. I was smiling from one ear to the other, though XD
Also, I remember getting sent manga screencaps with Loid in such a cardigan! And I guessed right that it would be a beige one! I mean, it's a pretty common colour for a grandpapa cardigan, but has he maybe worn this before?
Tumblr media
I wonder how he'd react and adapt if he knew Becky is having a crush on him. Like, what would he do? He'd definitely avoid anything inappropriate for all the obvious reasons, but here he's trying to pull back because he thinks Becky is getting suspicious of him XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Send this to a friend without context and ask them to guess what the actual fuck is going on here. This is Misunderstandings: the Right-Before-Holidays Special.
Tumblr media
Pure Chaos and it just
Tumblr media
keeps
Tumblr media
going.
Tumblr media
This is exactly what I signed up for when I watched the very first episodes and was like "please tell me the entire show is like this"
Poor Yor, though. Her very first instinct was to blame herself and think of herself as incompetent. I guess old habits die hard.
Tumblr media
Simp alert.
Tumblr media
YEAH DEFINITELY NOT SCREAMING AT THIS
Seriously, though! She remembers what he told her there (though, weren't they supposed to repeat the conversation the next day?) and I hope she remembers how vulnerable he made himself with her.
OH BOI I DON'T SHIP OFTEN BUT WHEN I SHIP. I SHIP.
Tumblr media
LOID BROUGHT YOR'S COAT WITH! MY GOD!
I mean! This isn't supposed to be a twiyor-centric episode and yet!
Tumblr media
BECAUSE YOU WEREN'T RICH AS A KID AND THEN YOUR CHILDHOOD WAS VIOLENTLY RIPPED AWAY FROM YOU 😭😭
If you thought I wouldn't grab even this opportunity to make this angsty, well, you were wrong
The highest prize in the hammer competition thingy is... a q-tip?
Tumblr media
We stan. Everything for the ultimate q-tip.
Becky sees Loid's ._. face and she's like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he said that "Yoru-san" there, though! This was the cherry on top of this entire hilarious part!
It was weird to see there was an entire small part on Nightfall, considering we haven't seen her in the entire season. However.
Tumblr media
WHO THE FUCK IS THIS. WHY IS HE WATCHING THEM LIKE THAT.
(again, anime only here)
And I'm like, whoa. That's a very suspicious guy thrown in the middle of a filler part (I was told this is anime original) and not shown again. Since the next episode is the last of the season, I assume we'll see him again in that one?
I remember that in episode 20, when Loid is in the hospital, we see a moment from afar with a moving shadow, like someone was watching them. I noticed it on a rewatch and up until now I thought that was Nightfall. But now?
Tumblr media
Seriously, though, are they not noticing him??
Tumblr media
What he doin
I love how Handler said she doesn't want to overwork her agents... I wonder if she says anything relevant in the manga but I dare not look into the chapter after the one with Becky XD I'm guessing she actually took to heart the reprimand from HQ to be more lax with her agents.
Nightfall shows an almost audacious level of self-confidence in front of her boss... and Handler doesn't deny it. She trusts her and actually thinks the same - that Nightfall is probably the only one capable of handling Twilight's missions.
Anyway, Nightfall is going all "Senpai will notice me" and I'm like
Tumblr media
ADDITIONAL CRUISE FOOTAGE???? 👀👀👀👌👌
Another hopeless suitor, Nightfall goes like "Did you spot any flaws in that Briar woman yet or" having no idea he was looking at Yor like the yearning simp he is <3
Nightfall being all "Pick me. Choose me. Love me." and then Twilight is like "Wow she did all of that hard job while I was gone. Guess she deserves the leftover souvenirs."
Like. I'm crying laughing over this. He didn't even think about getting a souvenir for her, not even as a cover. Nightfall couldn't be more hopeless.
And then she gives him that look
Tumblr media
And the little hope she didn't even have is thrown out the window.
I love how Twilight turns around in shock and goes like "Why is glaring at me like that?!" because you idiot you gave her "leftovers"
Like I know he thinks they're not supposed to actually connect as friends but still. For a master spy he's so dense XD
They do kinda make you feel bad for her, though. She is trying really hard, and it would be hypocritical to blame her social awkwardness when we're here shipping Mr. Emotional Constipation and Ms. Naivete Personified. She would have actually been sympathetic if she wasn't so aggressive towards Yor (and in her mind, Anya too).
Anyway. Very funny and unhinged episode but there's only ONE EPISODE LEFT. I'M NOT READY FOR THE HIATUS 😭😭

Good question, @avvielalame-blog
GATHER 'ROUND, FOR I HAVE A STORY TO TELL ABOUT MY WEIRD HOSPITAL OPIOID TRIP THAT MADE ME HALLUCINATE NEW GOOD OMENS EPISODES:
Last year I went to the hospital. It was some cyst (idk the medical lingo), and it was painful af. They gave me some sort of strong opioid (again, no idea what the medical lingo is, but I think it was Buprensomethingsomething). Mind you, I was on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds, but I hadn't taken them for almost a week, cuz I couldn't get out of my bed the whole time (before I eventually went to the hospital). I told them I was off that medication, and because the prescription is pretty old, they gave me the painkillers. TURNS OUT THE FUCKING MEDS WERE NOT OUT OF MY SYSTEM YET!!! So uhhh... yeah.
(If you don't know, mixing these two things can be very dangerous because they can raise dopamine levels too high or something, which is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS!!! I'm a pretty large person, so this didn't hit me that hard (and also I was off the meds for longer than 24 hours), but if I was slightly less of a fatass and more of a responsible medicine taker, I might have actually been comatosed.)
Anyway, I was riding high that night. I didn't have anything else to do, so after seeing a good omens edit, my first thought was, "That seems gay. I'm in." So I turned on Prime and watched it all in one night. It's not like I was going to sleep in a ward full of screaming people anyway, so might as well make the most of it. The nurses told me to sleep, but I told them I wasn't sleepy, so they just gave me my antibiotics and, whatever else, took my temp and walked out. Did they care about the gay shit I was watching on my phone? No, they've seen worse.
Anyway, I watched the show, ugly cried for like an hour (harder than I did from the cyst that was torturing me for about a week), and then went to sleep at around 2 pm. When I woke up, I, as a responsible queer, decided to rant about it to my friends. After telling them all those things, one of my friends (who actually watched the show with his sister) said, "Are you sure the anesthesia didn't scramble your brain, cuz none of that happened lol."
When I tell you I was DEVISTATED!!! Literally a "You... you serious?" moment. Cried almost as much as I did at the ending.
Also, if you want to know: I had a dream about how the Ineffable Husbands teamed up with some nun (who was as much of a nun as she was a saint - only on a technicality) and they made her carry the Second Coming, which eventually got her kicked off the nunnery of whatever cuz 'These days, if you get pregnant as a nun, you won't be called ‘The Virgin Sarah’ or ‘The Virgin Linda’. You will be called ‘a common whore’. So much for being a virgin.' (Quote from my fanfic (and the weird opioid trip).
I don't know what the rest of the dream was because Mr. Party Pooper (aka my friend JK Juno ily (^з^)-☆) cut me off because I was talking nonsense.
Long story short, the painkillers got out of my system, I took my meds, renewed the prescription, and went on my still-on-going recovery journey.
Did I suffer two heartbreaks in less than 12 hours? Yes. Were they worth it? Eh. I mean, it inspired my fanfic, but wasn't THAT worth it. Did I enjoy my trip? No, I threw up, had diarrhea, and then constipation for two weeks.
I still get an awful surprise when I rewatch Good Omens for a specific scene, only to find out AGAIN that I was just hallucinating.
Moral of the story - don't do drugs and be honest with your doctors and nurses cuz you might actually die.
Anyways, TOODLES!!1!!111!!!

Okay, first ever Tumblr post! Not sure if anyone will see this, but this is about the podcast The Sounds of Nightmares, set in the world of Little Nightmares. Specifically I’m looking at Chapter 3.
BIG SHIT
So to those of you who’ve listened or heard what happens, holy fuck right?! There’s some pretty big revelations (stuff theorized for a while certainly but never outright confirmed) in the episode. For one, it knocks the whole “it’s just a dream world” thing out of the park. Noone physically vanished from her world for a moment. I am certain that the Ferryman’s riddle is responsible for that.
Otto’s disgraced mentor published a paper in which he posited the existence of other worlds and other centers of reality. This professor suggests that their own world might be “secondary” in the cosmic hierarchy of existence. This is outright transdimensional or multiverse shit right here and I love it so much! It makes sense to me in that these children who are so alien to this world would end up there, though I also believe that there were regular people there too (and kids), at least formerly.
SMALL SHIT
Additionally, this is one of the first times we’ve heard the monsters of this other place speak, or at the very least coherently. Not just the Ferryman, who is called the Candleman predominantly, but also the shopping mall.
The shopping mall is the third location that we know if that’s suggested to be alive. The Maw is only indicated through reading Word of God stuff from Tarsier and the imagery that it must “feed” or must not perish. With the Signal Tower or Transmission or Flesh Walls or Black Tower, what have you, we see this evidence explicitly.
Back to the abandoned shopping mall, which is what they’ve named it on the wikia for Little Nightmares! It’s not clear if it feeds on anything at all or how. I will also say that I’m a sucker for a tragic beastie, which is the vibes that I’m getting from this being. However, I don’t think it would be good for Noone to have stayed there with it, even if it always treated her well.
The shopping mall appears to be suffering from serious mental health issues and is horribly lonely. It is desperate to have someone else stay with it, and also appears to be aware of the common fate that befalls children outside its walls.
So you know what, I’m gonna choose to believe that while it’s certainly dangerous the mall doesn’t mean children harm. It’s both incredibly lonely and entirely powerless to stop anyone who’d willingly stay with it (or be forced to stay) from being taken.
I’ve wondered if anyone else was somewhat hoping for least one friendly giant to appear in the Nowhere. Alas, this “friendly” giant is miserable, a little unstable, and totally powerless to save the company it desperately craves.
It actually reminds me of Six being trapped and warped within the Tower. There seemed to be no real benefit to that place in keeping her there other than maybe controlling Mono more easily. Maybe the Tower wanted her to stay too. Who knows!
The last thing I wanna cover is (drumroll) THE FERRYMAN! God I love this character. What’s so interesting to me about him is that he doesn’t appear to be running on a single base desire like most of the other adults. That suggests to me that he may never have been human in the first place and that he’s also directly working for the otherworldly entities of the Nowhere.
He’s definitely trying to draw Noone further in and I believe the riddle he told her is part of a ritual or incantation to lure her further in. Either she will continue out of curiosity, a desire to get better (not realizing it’s a trap), or if she resists she won’t a choice once it’s fully taken hold in her. The route I think this is going is that Noone will be pulled over physically for longer and longer, with the world becoming more and more clear, until she can no longer return. Her home reality may now be but a dream that she’s no longer on the same wavelength of to be able to return to.
Anyway, that was a lot of writing lol! Props to anyone who makes it to the end. Please feel to share your own ideas in here and thanks for listening!

what a weekend, huh
I've refrained from using this blog to share my thoughts on the [gestures vaguely] situation for- well, for a few reasons. For one, I haven't been directly involved in the fandom for a while for personal reasons (I will reiterate that I am Mostly Fine). For two, until today we didn't have an official update on the matter. And for three, there's been A LOT of vitriol within the fanbase, so saying anything felt like stepping into a minefield.
Point three still stands. But what the hell? I've thrown my thoughts into worse rings.
My opinions on the whole fiasco can be summed up in four points.
ONE: Their initial plan was bad, and the way they announced it was even worse.
I don't think I have to explain why cutting off a large number of low-income and international fans is a shitty thing to do. That the initial treatment of Patreon fans was poor is, I think, similarly self-evident. And not just because we weren't initially given free access to the streaming platform; the abrupt cancellation of WW+ and early access screwed a lot of annual-membership patrons over.
We now have confirmation that Watcher needed a new revenue stream to stay operational, and that the team viewed this change as essentially a last resort to avoid layoffs or worse. We did not get this information in the "Goodbye YouTube" video. The Watcher team could have been upfront from the beginning, but they decided not to be. Instead they hyped up the announcement, even had a countdown, leading us to think that this was a sign of something good, when in reality it was a sign of something dire.
I hope we can all agree that more initial transparency would have significantly improved the audience reaction to the announcement.
TWO: The update/apology video was a good one.
They addressed why they made their decision, admitted to their fuck-up, and changed their plan. That's Owning Up To Your Mistakes 101. What we got was a compromise; they aren't scrapping the streaming service altogether, but they aren't abandoning fans who can't afford it altogether, either. And of course, they've told us that the streaming service is necessary for the survival of the company. Better late than never.
There's still a lot that they need to do before they can fully gain my trust. And I say gain, not regain, because this isn't the first time they've had a business fumble (NOTE: this is not about the HWYD incident). From Patreon rewards coming months late to factual errors in their educational shows, to what I strongly suspect is mismanagement of funds leading to their current financial troubles, they've always had flaws that ought to be addressed.
But it's a start. A good start at that.
THREE: Some fans reacted to the announcement (and to a lesser extent, to the update) in deeply inappropriate ways.
Look, I don't think you have to ~deeply adore~ Steven Lim to be a Watcher fan. I'll admit that, as a diehard Unsolved fan since 2017 who rarely watched Worth It before 2020, Steven's shows appealed to me less than Ryan and Shane's content did. The average viewcounts of Steven's shows compared to Ryan-n-Shane's shows indicates that my preferences are pretty common.
That being said, as someone who isn't particularly enthused about Steven content, I can appreciate the things he's done for Watcher and as a human being. He's always been the guy pushing hardest for Asian-American representation, as Grocery Run, Hidden Narratives, and especially his response to the 2021 tragedy in Atlanta, made very clear.
From years ago to just last week, he's said some poorly-worded and even insensitive things. He's a human. We're prone to doing that.
If you think that it's okay to insult him on a personal level over this weekend's fiasco, to drag up an old mistake he already publicly apologized for, or to make unfounded accusations about his moral character, you are solely mistaken and have some serious maturing to do. If you actually partook in any of those activities, I sincerely hope that you regret your actions and avoid repeating them. And if you're one of those people STILL trying to pin all the blame on Steven, or even calling for his resignation(?!?)... I don't know what to tell you. I really hope you become a kinder person soon.
This also goes for people who started getting personal with the other members of Team Watcher, or with their friends or loved ones outside the company. So what if Sara had an imperfect take? She's not responsible for Watcher's bad decision, and we shouldn't be dragging her into the discourse just because she's married to a guy who did a fuck-up.
And yeah, Shane did a fuck-up. It ain't cute to act like he's an innocent anti-capitalist baby being dragged into this mess by Steven. Same goes for people saying Ryan didn't play a part in this, but over the past few days I've seen way more support for Shane among conspiratorial fans than for Ryan. I'm not going to act like racial bias is the only factor at play here, clearly it's more complex than that, but making up conspiracies to protect your white fave while scapegoating the outspoken-against-racism Asian guy... it's not a good look. You have to realize that and evaluate your biases.
FOUR: The backlash to the backlash has become excessive and unhelpful.
I get it. When people are being dicks online, it's natural to speak out against it. And boy howdy, were some people being dicks this weekend. Emphasis on the some.
Yes, there's been a lot of mean-spirited, unconstructive hate sent Watcher's way over the past few days. There's also been an incredibly large volume of constructive criticism from all corners of the fandom. Some of it's been discussed between fans, some of it's been shared directly with Team Watcher. It doesn't stick in your mind as strongly as blatant hate does, but I can assure you, it's there.
And in the effort to defend Watcher against that hate, a lot of you have made it really hard for good-faith criticism to be heard.
Seriously, every time I see someone on the Wiscord politely criticize one of Watcher's decisions, they're immediately shut down by a fellow fan. Same thing happened to me in an unofficial fan server earlier today. My good-faith critique wasn't as important as the fact that some asshole could hypothetically make a similar argument in bad faith. Any attempt at a calm, reasoned discussion of Watcher's issues as a company gets drowned out with blind positivity.
Let me make my stance crystal clear: people are allowed to be upset about things that they aren't being forced at gunpoint to pay for. That's like, the the basis of media criticism. "You don't HAVE to pay for it so you shouldn't complain about it" is not an argument that should be taken seriously here on Al Gore's internet.
There's also been a lot of disingenuous use of the "don't you believe artists should get paid?" argument, because yes I do, and yes they have been getting paid. By thousands of people at once - far more supporters than most working artists receive in a lifetime. I personally have been supporting them financially since January of 2020, literally since day one. Watcher's situation evidently isn't ideal, but as far as independent creators go they're pretty darn privileged to have the following they have.
And if you think that Team Watcher has actually totally been doing the right thing all along, then you're wrong. The guys at Watcher themselves admitted that. If they really are the bastions of honesty you're convinced they are, you'll accept that. Above all, the changes they announced today are not proof that "the bullies won". If the bullies won, there would be no streaming service. What happened was a compromise, and the assholes in this fandom didn't want a compromise.
Look, I know you guys. I remember the old days, when we weren't afraid to provide feedback to Watcher when they fucked up, and over much smaller fumbles than this recent one. I know we've all put a lot of money and time into this company and the people behind it. The sunk-cost fallacy is a very powerful thing. But please don't let your hatred for bullies and love for the boys completely blind you to valid criticism. You can't entirely shield them from growing pains if what you want for them is real growth.
FIVE: This isn't a real point in the list I just had to separate my closing thoughts from the rest of the essay I accidentally wrote. Whoops.
The other day, I saw somebody (can't recall their handle, sorry) describe some fan reactions to Friday's announcement as "post-divorce honesty". It's far from the only comparison to a breakup I've seen. That phrase has been ringing in my head for a while now. Because this situation has made a lot of people reevaluate what they like about Watcher, why they became a fan in the first place, and if it's worth sticking around.
Watcher made a mistake. One that they could walk back but can't undo. Their reputation is never going to be the same as it was before. Likewise, a lot of fans said things that can't be taken back, and now that's tied to their reputation in our community. I can't blame anyone for feeling uneasy right now.
Hm. When I started writing this, I had an actual ending in mind. I don't know where that went.
Maybe that's the note I end this massive ramble on? Watcher's future is uncertain, the community's future is uncertain, so I'm uncertain about the last part of this post...? Agh. There's a reason why I'm more of a fiction writer than an essayist. It's getting late, I've got stuff to do tomorrow, and my browser's beginning to slow down from the sheer weight of my draft being open for so long.
Just... try to take it easy on each other, okay? It's been a hell of a week, and we haven't even finished Monday yet.

"the tinfoil comes off when you have to imagine the government as smart." This is one of the responses to my post about government having access to technology far beyond the general public. This is a pretty common dismissal of conspiracies and it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard every time I hear it.
A.) What you think the government is and what the government actually is are two different things. This attitude only works if you actually believe the puppet they parade in front of a camera is in charge. Can you honestly tell me you believe that, for example Joe Biden a demented old fuck that doesn't even know where he is...is the one writing and enacting policy right now? You have no idea how smart or how dumb the people in charge are because you don't even know who they are. There's video footage of him signing laws where he says the words "I have no idea what I'm signing." But sure I guess if you're dumb enough to think guys like him are the government I guess thinking the government is too stupid to plan stuff makes sense. The government has so much power and so much control over your life that this idea that they are just too incompetent to plan anything is beyond ridiculous.
Bureaucracy is just one part of government and yeah they're going to have incompetent workers maybe even more than the general public but to say the people in charge are too dumb to plan anything...come on. They were smart enough to trick you into allowing them to steal from you every week, to control your entire education and to be able to send armed men to kill or imprison you if you do anything they don't like.
B.) You know Hanlons razor "never attribue to malice what can be explained by stupidity" well that's retard shit go ahead and reject that premise in totality because reality is actually the opposite of that, the world is full of malice especially when you look to the upper echelons of power....those people are all psychopaths.
You have made the mistake of assuming the terrible things they do are because of stupidity and that they just keep screwing things up by mistake...the screwing up is very intentional. Every socialist policy maker who claims "oh I'm raising the minimum wage 5 bucks to fight inflation because I care about the poor" knows 100% that they are causing inflation and that it will make life harder for everyone and especially hard for the poor. They know...they want your life to be harder, they want money and power and wish you harm. It's not a bug it's a feature.
They knew when they went on tv and said get this shot it will save your life and your grandmas life...they knew they would be injecting you with heart attack cancer juice, that was pure unbridled malice, not stupidity.
C.) You understand it's not DMV employees and politicians doing science for the government right? You do understand that when I say the government has tech we don't it's not because I think Justin Trudeau figured out AI before google right? They use those private companies as contractors to develop technology and then control how it is accessed used and if and when and how it is released to the public. Or they just hire the smartest people to do R and D directly for them. Like when they invented the internet at DARPA. But usually they just swoop in and take what they want that someone else created. People also have this idea that major corporations and the government are separate competing entities when they're not. They dump funding into companies and install CEOs and board members to control them. Google for example only exists because of the government, oh did you think google does whatever the government wants purely coincidentally? The idea of corporations vs government is a fantasy that should have been even more apparent during 2020 when the will of the state was summarily executed by virtually every corporation on the planet.
The idea that people still think the government is separate from corporations after minimum wage employees at walmart were tasked with being bouncers at the door and making sure everyone was wearing a mask had their injection and weren't standing too close to each other because the government told them to ...is ridiculous. 2020 should have been the death of the "private company can do what they want" nonsense.
D.) We tend to use ourselves as barometers of what others are capable of but the problem is there are ways of life and being that are totally foreign to us. Many assume because they are not smart or sociopathic enough to collude and scheme to achieve power and control over others...then nobody must be like that. You went to public school smoked weed the whole time and learned how to write in cursive poorly...I don't think your experience is the same as someone who was born into wealth and power and can spend every minute of their life for generations learning how to keep and amass more wealth and power. You have no idea what it's like to have everything you could ever ask for, all the money you could have to indulge any whim and get weird and disconnected because of it and to feel entitled and superior and spend your days trying to exert your will on the rest of the world. That's not even going into any secret cults or organizations...which are also a thing.
Embracing the tinfoil is the only rational way to proceed with what we know. The only alternative is comfortable delusion. And this wasn't even about a wild or hard to swallow reality...it was just the notion that the government is ahead of the consumer market with technology...that's not even a conspiracy it's a demonstrable fact.

ok i know it's just a silly little fanfiction on the silly little internet but at this point i have seen a few different people discussing crimson rivers james + the possibility of him going back into the arena in a way that just feels...kind of casually ableist?? so. some thoughts:
if your first reaction when considering the possibility of james going back into the arena is anything along the lines of "nooo omg he would die so quickly/he wouldn't stand a chance/he'd be dead in a second because of his leg" please! please. please just pause and think for a moment about why that is your first response and how that is informing your speculation that it couldn't possibly be him, because we know pov characters won't die and of course james would die if he went back into the arena with a physical disability. here are some things to consider -
when you talk about things like "disadvantages," think about where you're drawing the line. in the first games, we saw that evan was taller than regulus and better built for climbing trees. he had an advantage that regulus did not have. peter was certain that he was going to die, because he wasn't as strong as some of the other tributes. vanity was physically "disadvantaged" when compared to...pretty much everyone else. both of them outlived tributes like avery and mulciber. clearly, physical disadvantages don't always matter the way you might think when it comes to who lives or dies.
think about what assumptions you're relying on and what lines you're drawing in your own thinking when it comes to disability. yes, james needs a cane. he also gets triggered by bugs. regulus can't fucking shower. regulus gets triggered by the smell and taste and sometimes even the sight of blood (if i'm remembering correctly?). sirius has dissociative amnesia. like. nobody who has been through the arena has come out the other side without some kind of issue, and all of those issues could affect them in different ways that could put them at a disadvantage if they go back into the arena. pause and consider why you might be responding to james's leg differently than you are to sirius's dissasociation, or regulus's panic attacks. what narratives about physical disability have you internalized?
consider that we have actually already seen disability addressed in the first arena! james needs glasses to see. many people don't consider needing glasses a disability, because the accomodations needed for those who wear glasses are widely available, and because it is so common + normalized that those who wear glasses don't face much (or any) stigma in their day to day lives. but regardless of how you'd define poor eyesight and where you'd draw that line, it is undeniably a physical disadvantage that james needs a physical accomodation to address in order to put him on a "level playing field" with anyone who has 20/20 vision. and how was it addressed? super-fancy high-tech contact! bam. clearly, the hallow does take disability into account in some ways, because they want to make sure they have an interesting game. so again, where's the assumption coming from that james's leg would put him at like...an egregious and impossible disadvantage?
i think it's completely valid to have discussions about disability and to talk about the reality of how a physical disability like james's might affect him in the arena. but i also think that discussion should be dissecting and pushing back against societal ableism surrounding physical disability, and saying shit like "oh he'd die so quickly bc of his leg" is...not doing that. so. just some food for thought!

Ooh if you’re still taking numbers for the prompt thingie, 14! I adore your writing so much!
"Talk to me, prithy, I know you hath something stuck in that throat, and it's not ocean."
She stares through his soul before ducking her head into the wafts of her hair, scooting backward in aqua and shadow.
No avail.
"Well, fuck." Eddy sighs, sitting down in front of the glass coffin, boots spread.
Don't open the crate. They had decreed. An extra sixty pence for him to turn his eyes away and whistle over his morals.
He'd taken the gold and opened the crate anyway, as soon as he was out of the city walls.
And it was a fucking mermaid they had him smuggling. A siren of the sea. A Poseidon witch. A femme enchantress who robbed men of mind and blood before drowning them at the bottom of the darkest trenches.
She looks terrified.
But isn't that part of the play? She's the most ethereal beauty he'd ever seen in his life, just likes myths said they would be. Then her glowing blue eyes and milk skin framed by golden floss hair was all just the meat under a propped up box with a stick. She'd use them to lure him to a watery death and lay eggs in his chest… or something.
He doubts she could drown him in less than a trough of water, though. It barely reaches past her shoulders. And she had no space to turn or fold, let alone swim or kill.
She's stationary and shivering. Stolen and smuggled.
And Eddy doesn't smuggle people. And… Mermaids were… people shaped enough to fall under that honor code. Exotic birds of fire, beatles made of gold, and dogs that could bark open portals—sure. If the buyer liked animals and not just greed.
His normal fare is usually just illegal spices for the recreational minded. Liquors that controlled dreams for something to relieve a wounded day. Rare books with incantations for better genes and the like. Maybe some rare weapons and metals when he was in a legitimate mood.
Buying and selling people was sadly common and sadly profitable but not so sadly in his repertoire.
Til' now.
Accidental, promise. And the bad taste he'd had since stepping foot in the Duke Brenner's caste of forbiddens was a pretty big foreshadow, but one he could feel a rebellious itch against. Something that told him to take the job and ruin it.
So here he was, in the back of his caravan with an open crate to a mermaid case outside the forgettable village of Pitty Glen, ruining it.
Pitty Glen, because it is the complete opposite direction of the High Lord Creel's manor he's been directed to take her to, and it's also where his pseudo boy lives. Boy as in knave. Though smugglers didn't technically have knaves, they had accomplices.
And Dustyn Son of Hender was a good one of those, with his endless tomes and scrolls of legend and mysticism.
"Verily, let's… see what we have here." He waves the Books of Seas at her.
She bobs ominously in response, siren eyes illuminated like foggy moons. Her eyelashes clump, wet and golden, and the effect is such a detail of humanity. Eddy finds himself staring at the contrast of her very real details to her very unreal ones. The pearlescent skin pressed gently with patterns of scales that come and go with the refracting light. The golden thick of her tail, adorned in flimsy paper wet fins, pink and waving like a lady's chiffon wrapped around her. And the sparkling stones man made and otherwise crowned over her hair. Brooches and coral and pearls and possibly the broken chains of a man's pocket watch—like she had maybe slaughtered some humans and created jewelry from their leftovers as souvenirs.
"Apologies, good fuck, let's just—" Eddy pulls his eyes away because it's rude to gawk at a woman even if she probably eats people. "...see if anything in this blasted thing helps our dialogue."
Turns out the trinkets aren't souvenirs but status.
Mermaids are actually pretty courtly, even despite the book's pages being littered with illustrations of naked beautiful women with large gnashing teeth and bloody claws—Eddy doesn't appreciate the over exaggeration of their gruesomeness, and flicking his gaze up to the even flow of her sineous scales, hair, and tail: the under exaggeration of her countenance.
They apparently make trade and fashion with each other by gifting all things… sparkling. Shiny was the only name on their currency. And the more one had, the more high up the court they were.
"So, you're a mermaid lady-in-waiting? Or maybe a duchess of some reef?" he asks, flipping the book to spread its pages against the glass to show her the drawings of different mermaid treasure jewelry.
She shrinks at first, the underwater jerk fluffing her chest, curls, and gems. But then she's bending close, touching her own little tiara of compasses and rubies.
Eddy stands, looking about the crates and baskets of his caravan, past the other cargo he'd taken on of opiates and weapons, shuffling through his own cot bedding and trunk to find something suitable. Something sparkling.
"I suppose maidens' love for bobbles is true on dry or wet land, ha!" Eddy barks, watching the aquarium case rock with her obvious excitement. She tries to follow the book when he takes it back. "Greetings, condolences, compromises, forgiveness, so forth, so forth—are begun with such gifts. Greedy! But understandable. I too, start all my friendships only if they pay tribute. Granted, I don't have friends, I have customers but…"
A metal brooch clatters to the floor, stopping beneath the wedge of his boot.
The Templars sword and sheild.
He picks up the richly engraved cape closure and frowns.
"Well, it's not like I fucking need it anymore," he tells it and himself.
When he comes back to the coffin, the siren’s webbed fingers splay on the glass. Long sharp knives’ end nails tapping lightly as she peers close to see what he’s doing.
“Whoa, terrifying. Verily, the book is… not wrong then.” His eyes dart to the codex again and the drawings of bloody, horrible ends to the men who trifle with these creatures.
But she looks curious. Innocent. Absolutely entrancing.
Gold all over and blue where it counted, she’s the sea itself in the space of refracted light. Even the junk in her hair she’s collected does it’s job, shining and glittering to match the deepness of her eyes and the wetness of her lips. Wetness of her lips—she’s in water, you absolute buffoon. Still. Entrancing,
That’s the point, that’s the point, that’s the point…
He shakes himself. Murderous mythical creature or not, he’s not selling her to some high bidder who will display her in a dining hall for lords and ladies to gawk at for the rest of her life before someone decides they haven’t tasted mermaid morsel or some lord deems her fit for a deadly romp.
And he can’t help her return to… wherever she hails from if he can’t commune with her.
So this.
Flashing the brooch at her proves worth it. The water inside splashes with her excitement, her eyes on the shine with rapt attention so much so she doesn’t notice the case above her pry open. Eddy drops the metal inside and yelps back when she twists and jumps upon it.
“F-for you! Dear… lady. Y-ye! You fancy that? It's a gift! Want to keep it?”
Curled in her palms, she grins.
Oh.
“Ohhhhhhhh….” he wobbles, staring at her teeth. The incisors are familiar. Flat like his. her canines and the rest however… Sharp and long. A beautiful skin she has, wrapped tight around a body made for destruction. Like engraved plating on a blunderbuss. Gem-encrusted sheaths on blades. Many, many, many blades. “You... you must need those… for something, then.” Egads.
She ignores him though, too busy closing her eyes to focus on attaching his old Templar’s medal to the collection in the crown of her head.
Eddy picks up the book again quickly, reading fast down the passage of gifts. “...once received, placement of parcel upon each siren is denotation of class… huh, hmmm… wrists, no, necklace, no…. hair! AH–”
Royalty.
“Oh, oh no. Oh… god.”
Royalty. Only those of high lineage within the matriarch may crown themselves.
Mermaid… princess.
“Y-you don’t think that would look nicer on, perchance, a lapel or, or, or an earring or—”
She blinks at his rambling, smiling with such grace and poise he’s only getting more and more upset.
Then she opens her mouth again.
But this time he’s not distracted by the fangs as much as he is the note. The singular, sweet, unearthly, and altogether unworldly note of music. Of voice—nothing of any sheet he’d ever known, and he’d known them all. A high-pitched, low-pitched, tuning fork flicked against the chords of time and space and heavens.
Around them, the caravan wobbles in color and picture, and Eddy falls back on the slats, dizzy as the world around him tilts, reverberates, and her face illuminates with a literal sun behind it—Golden and perfect. Oh, mighty sun, sweet maiden, to go to her and let her have him—! To allow him to sink into that noise. He would be so happy, so content—
Whoa—what?
“S-STOP! Stop, stop, stop!”
Her shoulders jerk, teeth snapping shut.
“N-no singing! Uh—”
Singing. Siren. Mermaid. Ships crashing into rock and men getting their face pried off for egg nesting. Bad.
“—I, I’m not, I don’t really enjoy music and, you're not really in pitch for that… diddy. Sorry. I’m pretty particular about… I have a sensitive… bard’s ear…”
She stares back at him, hands wringing through her hair fast and uneven, looking very much like a girl he’s yelled at and now was insulting and not a vile witch who’d just tried to enthrall him into a cannibalistic ritual.
“S-Sorry. Let’s. how about we just… we’ll wait to sing until you know. Never, maybe.”
At least not until he put her back in water and sailed weeks away from her.
He puts his hand on the glass for recompense, eyes still dizzy with her beauty and whatever that had been.
And… incredibly, without prompt or circumstance, she does too.
Calm and graceful, and smiling full of needles and joy, she matches his rounded, thick fingers with her delicate points and laughs.
And it sounds… Boy, does it sound.
Eddy cries to it. Quite literally the sound of it yanks something up his throat and past his nose until he’s spilling tears. He feels magic in his veins. And not in a dreamy pathetic poet way—no, magic, scroll-full magic with history and weight in it that he knows for sure she is doing it.
“M-maybe no laughing either princess,” Eddy says, scrubbing his tears away with his hair. “That mayhaps be best!”
She laughs again and he curses as he puts his head in his knees and sobs past his own barks of mirth at the ridiculous situation.
He cries and laughs and stares at the wood of the caravan floor and her again, shining and sweet—and h-how?
How in the realm did he get himself into such a mess? Such a divine mess?
Or is that the Siren’s song talking?

I just saw the academic stats of the official fanbook and cry laughing how Yuuji was second to dead last. Gojo is the epitome of that gifted physics PhD student who knows * everything* but forgets not everyone knows or learns like he does naturally so the students are left swimming in the dead end.
For reference:
Tumblr media
*sigh* don't remind me. Twt's response to that has been bothering me for a while. Just another opportunity for people to completely misunderstand Yuuji's character and just jump to the conclusion that he's dumb. Of course they are gonna bring up him counting down Mahoraga's attacks on his fingers as if that's unusual or a bad thing. Even saw someone say he would only finish high school at 20 (because he's too stupid not because he's busy fighting for his life). They are just running full force after those Dumb Shonen MC tropes, completely ignoring his actual character. That very same fanbook even says he's a pretty good student in regular high school, does his homework, no signs of being behind, only sciences are his weakness.
I think it's very noticeable that the Kyoto students seem a lot better in academics than the ones in Tokyo and I don't think that's because Kyoto happens to attract Mensa-level students. They just have better teachers, meanly Kusakabe and Utahime. Like you said, Gojo is a pretty shit teacher. He barely taught Yuuji or any of his other students anything in terms of jujutsu (as his fight against Sukuna reminded us) and I doubt it's any different for common subjects.
Most of the regular school teaching is done by windows and assistant directors, but they are also notoriously overworked and that might be the reason for why the students are lacking behind in comparison. I mean, Hakari is a very intelligent guy. If the school hadn't treated him like shit, I'm sure his score would be much better. Same with Maki. I could see her having to serve as the only weapons teacher at the school cutting into her study time. Don't know why else she would be behind Mai. Hell, the students don't even have theoretical knowledge of jujutsu, like barrier techniques for example.
Tumblr media
I guess Tokyo Tech just banks on the students dying before getting a high school degree. It is a very neat tactic to keep them from seeking a non-sorcerer occupation. Nanami and Ijichi got lucky with their education.
The other categories Jujutsu Sense (Ability to use CE & CT) and Reflexes (Motor skills without CE enhancement) are a lot more even, with Tokyo leading in places, but it's also something that's a lot more reliant on innate talent not teaching. Like how Yuuji got only a couple of useful lessons from Todo and Nanami (and Kusakabe) and thankfully that was enough to get him to the level of a grade 1 sorcerer. Thank god he learns fast or he would be fucked.
Also, all those people making fun of Yuuji for not having straight A's in physics or math are also the ones complaining about CTs being too complicated or don't know how the Culling Game works. Yuuji understood that pretty quickly.

Text
epistemic status: i wish this weren’t true but can’t see how it isn’t, more emotive than analytic
The western response to Putin’s annexation speech is fucking with me simply bc, afaict, setting aside the topic of the annexation itself, the speech is 95% true and pertinent and damning and the press (and others I would expect better from) is reacting to it like it’s a bunch of borderline psychotic word salad or a form of verbal terrorism or both at once
You have the guardian describing it as the rambling screed of an angry taxi driver, but idk, having read the actual text I think it has a pretty clear and straightforwardly argued thesis: US military and financial hegemony is just the latest phase in a continuous 500yr-long history of western international subjugation and terror and vassalage, which western elites look upon as their very life and will fight to the last of their subjects to preserve, while Russia will refuse to be cowed. And the core claim here about western hegemony is absolutely correct! He’s just right! Right, and damning
Tumblr media
I mean, yes! I, too, would like to see some of these rules! I think these are some reasonable points! (“Well, but he’s a hypocrite! He started the war!” Ok, who is whatabouting now?)
No two moments of the speech have attracted more attention than the “barely concealed nuclear threat” and the concluding batshit remarks about gender and sexuality. Let’s look at those in turn shall we?
Putin does, indeed, state outright that the US has set a nuclear precedent, but look at the context:
Tumblr media
Is there some whataboutism going on here? Sure. Does it carry some implication of willingness to escalate? Yea ig. But what could any hs students scoring above the 50th centile on the reading comprehension portion of the ACT divine as the clear overall message being argued here? That the US abd its allies since WWII have demonstrated a total unrenounced and gratuitous disregard for innocent human life in the course of subjugating their enemies and lording over their “friends.” And it’s fucking true!! Mass murder has been the calling card of US interventionism for the last sixty some years, and all in the service of a network of vassal states it cynically presents to the world as its peers and allies! Any threat of aggression here is secondary to the correct and utterly pertinent analysis of American global rule being decried!
And finally he does end the speech by dredging up homophobic panic about the end of traditional families and gender roles that could have well been copypasted from one of the more articulate screeds on /pol/. Ofc this is stupid. But what, to be even-handed, is the unspoken claim of the media reports harping on this globohomo fearmongering despite its occupying a tiny overall fraction of the text itself? What is the obvious implication of fixating on putins nationalist fag-hatred in the midst of characterising his speech denouncing American world domination as the conspiratorial ravings of a lunatic? That the evil he is castigating, the international system of unilateral military and economic terror on the part of Washington and her friends, is the true guarantor of queer liberation. And if putins bigotry is revolting this cynical pinkwashed apologia in return has to come close
None of this, ofc, excuses the annexations or legitimises the phony electoral veneer, let alone the invasion itself. But my God! Truly this makes me understand where the tankies are coming from!! It’s one thing to decry the act, another to suggest this speech is anything worse than a litany of truths in the service of a lie! But these swine, these vampires, these bloodthirsty warmongering brutes are so totally accustomed to the presupposition of their own common sensicality and so inured to criticism they cannot perceive a list of fair charges against them for what anyone with eyes to see can readily acknowledge it in fact is

If you don't mind me asking, what are your thoughts on the FDA?
There's been some mixed response to the FDA in Ravening War, particularly with some thinking it's kinda railroad-y and that it takes away the players' agency wrt the PCs involvement in the war
I think it's a fairly common way to get the group together in D&D but I'm waiting for more episodes to fully form an opinion on them
I have not seen this opinion, which is good, because it’s unbelievably fucking stupid. You are correct: this is just…how you tell a D&D story.
I think to properly understand the true depths of idiocy here, we need to understand what “railroading” is and what “player agency” is, so let’s start with “railroading”. The following response is like 2.5 pages in Google Docs (single spaced, font size 11) so it’s below a read more. I’ll note that in the abstract, sure, the concept of a secret society recruiting the party could have been executed in a way that was heavily railroaded and impinges on player agency, but at no point in the two episodes we’ve seen has that been the case with the FDA, which is why this take is so dumb.
Railroading is, imo, a neutral concept; I think it was Matt Colville who said “people seem to like trains, which, by definition, are on rails unless something really bad happened” or something to that effect. That doesn’t mean you can’t criticize railroading in TTRPG actual play (or home games), but, like all criticism that is not about one’s personal taste alone, it requires context. The most neutral way to define railroading is that the DM has pre-determined a certain path that the players cannot ultimately change. It is not the DM offering hooks that the characters will likely be interested in; it is not the DM simply having things happen that the players didn’t control. The whole point of the DM is that they build the world, which moves even when the players aren’t making it happen, the same way that you, an individual human being, exist in a world where things not caused by you and 2-6 other people occur. Is it railroading for the DM to say it’s raining when it wasn’t caused by a player’s Control Weather spell? Is it railroading for bandits to attack you on the road? No - those are just the world existing. And if the rain floods the nearby village and in helping it you learn of a quest, or the bandits steal your sword, and you follow these leads, that is not railroading; that’s called “the DM is making things happen so that a story is possible, and you should thank them and pay for snacks.”
Railroading becomes a problem when the players really don’t have any choices and truly cannot influence the outcome. I have a preference for more open-world/sandbox games, but railroading has its place. Notably, The Ravening War as a series should be pretty on rails. It’s a prequel, so the ending is already set and immutable. It’s also a limited series of six episodes. You cannot make a limited series an open world where the players can fuck around endlessly: you need to have a hook and you need to get the action going quickly, because, again, only six episodes.
Railroading can be used to good effect if the players can still influence elements of the outcome; the actual apogee solstice episode in Critical Role C3, while the build-up did get a little too rigid for my taste, was a great encounter that was pretty heavily on rails. I don’t think that Bells Hells really could have done anything to prevent the ritual fully - they were simply too outclassed. But I think had they not done the sabotage they did, the solstice effects may have been significantly worse and the situation now more dire, and had they perhaps made some different choices or just rolled better, they might have freed Caleb or Beau, or swayed Liliana, and the effects would be lessened and they’d have more allies. They still could make actions that influenced the outcome, even if aspects of the outcome were virtually impossible to change. (The same is true of Calamity - Calamity is happening regardless, but the players’ choices still very much tell the story).
The FDA is not railroading: it is a premise. It is a hook. The players could have turned it down both in the initial summons and the one in last night’s episode. They are not doing this, because everyone at this table is a good and collaborative D&D player aware that this is a limited series and that this is the premise. A lot of edgy losers who suck ass at D&D see the DM dangling an interesting hook and deliberately try to avoid it as some flat attempt at “subversion”, and those people are miserable to play with and even more miserable to watch. There’s nothing wrong with doing the unexpected! But when I think of great unexpected moments in actual play, they’re moments that still move the story forward and are collaborative; they just solve an encounter in a way the DM didn’t foresee. It’s good improv: it’s “yes and HERE’S A WILD TWIST”, not “Nope.”
I should also note that D20 is famously pretty heavily railroaded. The first few seasons were strictly pushed into a very artificial RP/Combat alternating pattern with pre-made battle maps, to the point that when the Bloodkeep crew bonded it required a rapid rework of the final battle because PvP had been assumed, and when the Bad Kids had two deaths in the first episode they were sent back in a frantic deus ex machina and then when they dispatched with too many enemies too quickly they were sent to jail for most of an episode. Which isn’t bad - again, you have to be on rails to an extent in a limited campaign, and these were early episodes when Brennan and his players were still adjusting to D20’s specific format. But to call out the FDA as railroading…I already used the phrase “to call this brain dead generously assumes the person saying it has a brain” today but I have to use it once more because truly, this is standard D&D and standard storytelling, to have a call to a strange event. This is no different than most of the Bad Kids getting detention in the very first episode of Fantasy High. They could have skipped it, but they didn’t.
And why didn’t they? Well, that brings us to player agency. Player agency is an even more fraught term than railroading, and it’s used to mean basically anything. It comes up a lot in why someone’s favorite TTRPG is the best, usually as a meaningless buzzword.
At its core, player agency really just means that the players have an ability to, through actions supported by the gameplay of the system they are using, influence the world in some way (ie, the railroading is not so locked down so as to make their actions entirely irrelevant). It means they are not stuck in a novel narrated by the GM, but rather are part of the collaborative storytelling. That’s it. Anyone who says differently is selling something, and the thing they are selling is probably a playbook for PbtA.
The thing about player agency is that technically, you can do quite a lot, but again, if your goal is to tell a collaborative story, you will probably at least check out DM hooks, even if you reject them, and you will probably at least consider what your other party members are doing and try to stick with them. There are narratives that D&D (or whatever TTRPG you are playing) and the setting your GM has created and any other restrictions you may have simply do not support well; a war where the five players are all openly fighting on different sides (or even on two different sides) is not something that is well-supported in under 18 hours of D&D. There does, for standard D&D practices, need to be some kind of unifying task! And the FDA is it. Players can still decide to pursue their own interests, and have, but they also have the FDA - which they are also, presumably, interested in! It’s not a lack of player agency if the DM says “hey you’re being recruited by a COOL SECRET ORGANIZAITON” and the players say “HELL YEAH COOL SECRET ORGANIZATION”.
I could go on about player agency forever, honestly, and you’re welcome to ask me more, but on some level it feels like the “but player agency!” crowd interprets “people considering the feelings of the other players and wanting to play in the space the GM has created instead of making a supremely self-indulgent OC as their character and acting on pure unadulterated selfishness” as a restriction on player agency. I mean, where does it stop? If the FDA is a limit on player agency by providing a compelling shared goal for five disparate characters with a complex system of alliances and interests, should the players have played characters all unambiguously on the same side so that the FDA wouldn’t be necessary as a device? Wouldn’t that be limiting their agency on the character creation side of things? Hell, why do they have to play characters from Calorum at that point? Obviously this is ridiculous, but this line of thinking is actually bizarrely common; people make D&D PCs with no thought to the setting or party comp all the time. The players absolutely could have said no, and that could have been a great story too - of five people running from this summons and bonding over that! But that still requires the summons. The DM is a player, and yeah, they have a bit more control as the worldbuilder, but also put in far more work and have far less room to fuck around. This is fundamentally how D&D works. It’s okay if you don’t like it and want true freeform improv fantasy, but then you should perhaps not be watching D&D actual play.
So: this is a very typical D&D premise, and a not uncommon low fantasy intrigue premise. The way stories in general start is when a person or group of people experiences a change that leads to some form of conflict, and for D&D specifically it’s typically a group of people experiencing some kind of event that brings them together. The FDA gathering the party is that event for The Ravening War. This is a story of five characters brought together in a secret society. The person who expressed the take that it was railroading or a limitation on player agency, rather than like, how fiction works, is a complete and utter idiot.

thank you so much for your answer! i actually didn’t expect such a in depth response— it actually made me kind of excited to rewatch the show so that i can give those seasons a try! i watched shameless as it was airing around s3 so it was really hard for me to cope with the idea of watching ian ‘moving on’ and bashing mickey without knowing he would be back etc. but i guess it should be time to face that considering who he gets married to! tho, if it’s okay, i wanted to ask more cause i love to see your take on it! for what ive gathered caleb cheated on ian with a girl saying it ‘didn’t count’, but was he also the one who told ian to try to be with a girl? cause i remember seeing something about it and it really pissed me off that ian even went and ‘tried’, considering s1 was him being very vocal about non being into girls! as for trevor, i did know about the monica ‘get over it’ clip because i always see people comparing it to how mickey has always been supportive no matter what (of course!!!) and also how trevor kind of forced himself on ian. i wanted to know what’s your opinion on those relationships of his, especially trevor cause it seems like it’s been the most controversial one as he spent two seasons around him. it’s funny in a way because the writers didn’t want mickey back but they still made every love interests ian had to be ‘wrong’ and showing everything that mickey would never do! also, this is out of pettiness mostly but considering all those seasons are about his bipolar disorder, does ian ever say that to his partners as a way to break up? or can i have a little of happiness thinking he just really wanted to protect who matters the most *cough* mickey *cough*. again, thank you for taking your time answering my question, i loved reading it!
hello again! more under the cut bc i'm quite chatty :)
first of all, yes, the "it doesn't count" + trying to have sex with a girl thing is true, and it honestly never felt very in-character for me. it was definitely A Choice on behalf of the writers. in fact, he gargles with mouthwash afterwards (or maybe it's vodka, i can't remember) and says "i think i have PTSD", which (of course) is meant to be humorous, but i do think it was a very jarring and confusing experience for him.
ohhhhhhh boy. the trevor of it all. well, let's begin by saying that there's a lot of controversy surrounding trevor. there are some really rancid anti-trevor takes that i don't agree with, primarily the ones rooted in transphobia, which i think is disgusting and abhorrent. i think people are generally either very anti-trevor or pretty neutral on him. i don't think anyone out there is singing his praises, or at least i've never heard a take like that in the time i've been in the fandom. as for me & my opinion, i think he is an incredibly frustrating, pretentious, self-serving character and he irritates me deeply. i think that while he could have been a good friend to ian, he fucked things up by trying to be his boyfriend. they were incompatible from the start and i honestly don't know why they started anything in the first place. like i know why, i just don't understand it. they had no spark. they had no connection. their only commonalities were that they were 1) both gay and 2) into advocating for homeless + at-risk youth. and that's like, it. they had friendly coworker energy, not electric, bone-shattering chemistry. my rating? 0/10 stars. i was very happy when he was written off and ian was left to sort his shit out on his own, unencumbered by a dissatisfying, toxic relationship.
and caleb.......ugh. fucking caleb! i'm surprised he doesn't get vertigo from riding such a high horse. he treated ian like an accessory and consistently put him in uncomfortable situations for no reason other than his own pleasure and/or to manipulate other people. the ONLY good thing he did was lead ian down the EMT path, and that is it. otherwise he was quite literally the worst. imagine cheating on someone and then being like "actually, this is a you issue." alexa, define "cold-blooded" 🙄
to answer your question, ian never credits his bipolar disorder when ending things with any other partner, no. trevor ended because ian ran off with mickey and lied to him about it/cheated on him (though they did spend another season in each other's lives in a really strange capacity, which was an interesting choice by the writers) and caleb ended because he cheated on ian. caleb was a clean break whereas trevor was super messy and drawn-out. but no, he doesn't talk about wanting to protect them from his disorder during their breakups. he tells them both about it early on, is transparent about it, and expresses his concerns about it being a lot to handle, but it isn't credited as the reason for the breakups, no.
i think when it comes to ian protecting mickey from his disorder, it's important for us to view things through an ian-centric lens. why did he do what he did? was it solely to protect mickey, or was it coming from a place of insecurity? a place where he felt like a burden? a place where he felt hopeless and aimless and scared? post-episode and post-diagnosis, it's very common to fall into what i like to call The Pit, which is essentially a shallow bed of self-loathing and the desire to self-isolate away from everyone and everything. we see a lot of that in the end of s5 and the beginning of s6. he's made himself very small, is afraid to do nearly anything for fear of further destruction, and feels incredibly trapped and frightened by his circumstances. all of these factors contribute to his behaviors and choices, including (but not limited to) breaking up with mickey. did he end things because he didn't want mickey to spend his life coping with the realities of loving someone with this disorder? yes. but he did what he did because he was scared. and i think it's really important we make that distinction when talking about and analyzing that storyline.
as always, if there's anything you want to talk about or if you have any other questions you are always welcome in my inbox! i hope you're having a lovely day 💛

So, I was writing this response to a post about how aggressively JK Rowling pissed away the massive goodwill she once had, but then tumblr ate it. So I wanted to tell you all about the current JK Rowling drama in Scotland. It's obviously not even 1% as important as her transphobic campaigning, that is the thing you should hate her for, but it is extremely funny and deeply weird, so lets have a giggle about it. So, you know those Harry Potter tours of Edinburgh? That go around showing locations where JK wrote the book, and locations that inspired elements in the books, and also do nothing but benefit her reputation and the HP-nostalgia-industrial complex? Right, so this is JKR with the Harry Potter tour industry in Edinburgh (she's fine with the London ones, I guess) this week
Tumblr media
She's declared that actually, the HP universe arrived fully formed in her head and she had no inspiration from anyone and anything. It's a total coicidence that Greyfriars Kirkyard, where she used to walk her daughter before going to the cafe to write, has residents including a McGonnagall, Moody, Tom Riddell, an entire row of members of the Potter family, and Scrimegeour (You know, that extremely common name Scrimegeour what she might have run across anywhere) or that the George Heriot school, also on her professed walking path, is a big spooky castle with four school houses, the colours of which are blue, green, red, and yellow. I mean for sure some of the tours exaggerate the level of influence or the certainty that this place directly inspired this or that thing in Harry Potter. Pretty much every old British city has at least one street that's reminiscent of Diagon Alley, and all those stuffy old private schools look somewhat like Hogwarts and pretty much all British schools use the house system. But at the same time, of course she was influenced by the world around her. Of course the stuff she saw every day made it's way in to her writing. It would be weird if it didn't. And like. My good bitch. You got those character names from those graves. Maybe not the potters, Potter is a super common name, but come the fuck on. There's co-incidences and there's Scrimegeor. It's weird how increasingly hostile Rowling seems to be to admit that she got any inspiration from anything at all. Like influences are normal and fine. You can admit that you enjoyed boarding school stories and children's fantasy, that you got character names from a graveyard, that you maybe saw kids preforming highland dancing on the school lawn in their house colours and dug the aesthetic. It's all fine. And if she admitted that anything was an influence it would be way more credible when she tries to say 'actually no. I never noticed that'. Also, you know subconscious influence is real. It's just so bizaare and petty that she's attacking essentially her most loyal fans for wanting to connect to her work. Also it is just me or does she just absolutely loathe Scotland.
