Less cryptid Batman in this particular WIP since it's semi-outsider pov lol (one of two outside person not unnerved by them lol)

Clark knew Batman wasn’t human, even before that disaster of a mission where he had let it slip to the others.

He’d known for a long time, from one of their early meetups, when Batman had first referred to him as Clark Kent instead of Kal-El, and he had panicked. He hadn’t ever lied to his teammates when he said that the cloak prevented him from seeing his body, but his ears still worked.

He’d tried to listen to a heartbeat, to see if his at the time temporary ally was lying when he stated he wasn’t going to tell anyone and… Nothing. There was no heartbeat, no breathing, nothing even remotely human, and if he didn’t know any better, nothing even remotely alive about the silence.

He couldn’t help but to pay attention more, to seek out the strange almost silence-feeling that accompanied the Gotham vigilante each time he felt it. It was… almost comforting, like the swaying of branches and the rustling of cloth over stone. Familiar, compared to the hustle and bustle surrounding him in the city.

The first thing he had noticed, physically that is, was Batman’s ears. Previously he’d thought the man unemotional, what with the rough voice, expressionless white eyes, cloak-covered body and the gas mask covering a good chunk of his face.

Yet the longer he watched, even idly, the more he noticed that while the man’s face or body didn’t show much, his ears did.

While Batman could stay silent and still for hours, the long ears twitched and swiveled, catching on the hood that he’d always wear around them. They’d pin back sometimes, a near silent sound he couldn’t quite place accompanying the movement, while other times they’d twist a near full three-sixty, as though searching for whatever sound it had caught.

Sometimes, when he’d startled the other vigilante, there’d be rattling noise, like wood and metal clacking together before it was cut off. It was a strange sound, one he’d not heard anywhere else, except with his… friend.

Were they friends? He’d like to think so.

The next time he was reminded that his friend wasn’t human was when he saw him get injured. It hadn’t been a bad injury, even if the Gothamite’s head had hit the wall with a very loud cracking noise, but he’d still smelled what he’d eventually come to recognize as blood. There was an almost pickle-like scent to it though that wasn’t quite it either.

Honestly the closest he could think of describing it was some sort of formaldehyde. And once he focused, he could pick out other things beneath it. Maybe not flesh and blood in the traditional sense, but still.

There was always that scent of cloth and wood, but he could smell the black liquid, paint, a metallic thing underneath like iron and steel. No heartbeat, no breath, but life all the same. It was honestly beautiful in a way, like a part of the city the other vigilante called home had come to life.

And it wasn’t like Batman minded whenever his own human mask slipped. Clark may have been raised by his Ma and Pa, whom he loved, but it didn’t make his body any more human in nature. There were just some things that he couldn’t change, and it took effort to move like one all day as a civilian when his body wasn’t designed to do so.

So he stayed quiet for the most part when their group of three grew, and people started to speculate. He diverted the conversations whenever it turned to him, lightly admonishing over the various rumors.

It didn’t matter if Batman wasn’t human, he was still his friend, their ally and teammate. Was he curious? Oh of course, he’d gone into journalism for a reason after all, but it was still his friend. If he wanted to tell, he’d tell, and Clark wouldn’t break his trust.

Not really, because he doesn’t consciously think of himself as gojo’s relative. Like, he’s aware that he is gojos super distant relative but the connection is so attenuated that he’s not really thinking of gojo as an actual part of his family, so it hasn’t hit him. But he would take literally any explanation to justify his extremely normal protective attachment to Megumi at this point

And as if 3 durges weren't enough, I just created a Tav. Who is a lil guy with one of the most fucked up origins ever. Also Myrkul is kind of his stepdad???

And he is also dead. My new lil guy, not Myrkul (tho Myrkul too).

Anyway, his name is Mort (Mortimer) and he was stillborn of a very powerful wizard lady who JUST lost her husband to a freak magic incident before.

She kind of pulled Ketheric+Mayrina and refused to accept what her baby is dead.

She turned into a lil over the top Myrkul worshipper who called herself "A bride of Myrkul" and brought her baby back by unnatural means.

Which makes Mort both immortal and...uh. Dead. He is like Isobel but more fucked up. And have been this way for all of his (un)life.

please remember i do not follow legacies for lizzie especially post 1x05. i'm currently on the fence of whether or not i'll actually acknowledge the mythical aspect of it because from what i do know it's messy and i don't really care for it.

some key notes for now!

lizzie and josie have a school built for them after the death of their uncle stefan. the school is ran by both caroline and alaric who, contrary to popular belief, have caused emotional damage to lizzie and josie in more ways than one. i will make an in-depth post about this at some point soon.

lizzie would have recognized jo. i'll accept the fact that she was a bitch to jo solely out of loyalty to caroline but lizzie knew exactly who that woman was.

my lizzie has an eidetic memory and beyond beyond beyond intelligent. she graduated being #1 in her class.

in my canon, the girls always had a strong and healthy relationship with hope because they are considered freaks of nature and abominations to their kind. they never would have secluded her.

lizzie is professionally diagnosed with bipolar disorder episode i and having to take medications as well as attends therapy to manage her symptoms. what this means? she experiences both manic and depressive episodes with its intensity and longevity varying. she was institutionalized 2 times during her teen years for having active suicidal ideations with one of the admissions providing the official diagnosis.

at this rate for the actual group itself : i know nothing about them or their relationship in the show with lizzie. as far as i'm concerned, outside of josie and hope - the rest were merely just average friends lizzie had on the side to get through school.

i do not acknowledge lizzie's relationship or whatever the fuck it was with sebastian. i know nothing about it nor do i care to.

i do not acknowledge lizzie's crush (relationship? i don't know) on mg. as far as my portrayal goes, he was just someone who had an infatuation with her and she didn't return the favor even after letting him down multiple times.

i don't know if any other relationship or crush was expressed for or by lizzie during this show but just to keep consistency : i don't acknowledge it.

i will acknowledge the triad in the realm it was formed by a witch, werewolf and vampire with the end goal to exterminate the supernatural beings.

i don't know what malivore is and still don't care enough to understand how it works or what the hell it is so i'm just tossing it out ( hence partly why i don't want to acknowledge the mythical creatures part )

my lizzie is not a heretic (if you haven't caught this drift yet that's how i know you haven't read my rules!) and are incapable of speeding up the merge. it happens at 22 and if they don't do it the girls will literally drop dead the following day.

lizzie graduates at the age of 17 and moves to new york city to go to columbia university to receive her undergrad degree. she graduates by 20 and is recruited to miss robichaux's academy for exceptional young ladies to become a student recruiter and teacher trained by cordelia goode.

miss robichaux's academy functions outside of the quarters witch faction as they do not draw powers from the ancestors. all witches associated with the school report to the supreme, cordelia goode, who does not report to anyone else. i can't emphasize this enough : it is independently functioning and does not rely on anything or anyone NOLA offers.

I've been on a Batman stint lately and with the kind of fanfics I look for, *cough* angst *cough* Jason, the dead robin, the one that was dead for the longest time by fan request, is a bit of a prominent figure there. And, I admit, I've never read an actual comic in my life(yet). I know a lot of cannon stuff because I fucking love my bats, but one of the prominent things in fanworks is the specific nicknames for the different batfamily members, and I know some of them are cannon and some have been so prominent in the fandom that people forget which are made up, but idk which are which.

BUT ANYWAY, you're probably wondering why this is tagged for Just Roll With It. I was going through the tag, as you do, and a was seeing Jay fanart, as you do, and a sentence crossed my mind, but a single word stuck out in it;

the monstrous bride is not necessarily monstrous, but she is, by definition, inhuman, which is part of her je ne sais quoi. her happiness often depends on whether her groom knows her inhuman. if he does not, he is bound to find out before the story concludes, at which point he will either be repulsed by his wife's deceit and leave her, or attempt to make the relationship work, but fail, because he is operating under a misinterpretation of her nature. if he is aware of her inhuman identity, it will often be one of the factors leading to his attraction to her, and he will be rewarded with her love – but often at the cost of abandoning his previous life completely.

the runaway princess — yor

The lessons flow better? It doesn't feel like one arc is squished into two lessons and then you must immediately jump into another different arc. It feels like it's all just happening in a connected sequence?

Better pacing in my opinion. It doesn't feel rushed.... like the part where satan discovers cats and then later is seen still sitting next to the cat and watching it? It feels appropriately spaced out

MC's relationships with everyone doesn't feel isolated. Like earlier there'd be a lesson or two dedicated to one character and we won't see much of the other characters during it. Now it feels like everyone is there interacting with everything in a normal, natural way. Yes there are lessons dedicated to getting to know one brother but the others are there, interacting with each other and MC during that time as well

The emotions & relationships are discussed/written in a way that feels very real and believable that it becomes actually really moving (s1-s4 also did this well but in nightbringer because of arcs/scenes/relationships not being isolated, of things flowing better and having a better pacing, of them outright discussing their issues it has a greater impact - yes I cried more than once shut up)

In the end, Nighbringer is darker than og OM! but not in the "grrr gonna kill you" way. It's "darker" because they address more serious topics in depth
