When Soap retires from the army, he ends up getting a job coaching a little kids' gaelic football team and he takes this shit so fucking seriously.
He coaches the under 10s team, which means that it's still mixed boys and girls, but he gets those kids so enthusiastic about everything. The local community around the club he trains for absolutely love him because A, he's really good with all the kids and B, its extremely funny to see a large man yell after little kids and be so invested in this sport.
He does swear at the kids, though, like all the time. He will call the opposing team wee shites and will call his own team little pricks. He's been told again and again that no, John, you can't call these kids little pussies but he doesn't listen. It encourages them and makes them laugh.
He had an assistant once, a teenager who took on the role for work placement for about a week and by the end of it she just looked at him and went "How the fuck do you do this everyday??" And Soap laughed in her face and said something like, "These kids are so much better than the cadets I used to train," and thats how everyone finds out that Soap uses the same techniques on these 9 year olds that he did on army cadets and suddenly it makes sense why his team all salute him in a straight line before a match.

i get that some ppl didn’t spend their whole life trying to be as quiet as possible but how the fuck is everyone so loud all the time ??? setting plates down too hard and not closing cupboards gently and dropping their shoes from like 4ft off the ground etc. like it’s not annoying to me or anything but it just feels so unnecessary and inconsiderate and it scares me sometimes

the more i chew over the mercs trilogy from rvb14 the more i think my initial reaction to it was kind of a complete misread actually lol
i had to dig through some old posts to find where i talked about it but initially i approached/read it as showing a pivotal, critical moment in felix and locus's history where they tipped over the line from being This to being That, and in that regard, the episodes are definitely still super fun and charming and Good but they also fall very flat. what exactly was pivotal about that? honestly, not much unless you want to do an insanely close read with some reaching. i guess maybe the whole "surprise, guess we're down to do a ransom and also kill a guy" part but... not really? they definitely murdered n+1 people at the club and are not new to murderizing (eg. the "mason wu, trained killer of men" comment). that was not a moral high ground situation in any way and nothing about it really points to it being The Moment that something changed fundamentally.
but what it was, actually - and i feel silly that i didn't read it like this at first - was honestly just a show that felix and locus did actually come from a place of doing net positives at some point in their lives. and that's not something to be dismissed! the fact that they weren't terrible horrible no-good dirty rotten mercenaries from the day the left active service is really interesting! and the trilogy showcased all of that in a super fun and charming and Good way and sometimes the point is just to show that things used to be different.

if there’s one thing about me it’s that i’ve got so many thoughts on extremely tiny details in the guy who didn’t like musicals

Imagine the teams being mic'd up during the match. Can you imagine how hilarious the in-game comments would be? Like that chapter where SI!Kagami called that guy from Seiho Kawahara's evil twin?🤣🤣🤣
the answer is more boring than you think
like the dab answer, si!kagami mouths off when it can't be taken as provocative
everyone having mics would make him clam up

'That's because you are scaring them'. Not like the lancer to say that at face value. Arsene could understand why everyone seemed panicked but then again, he was more of a social chameleon, knowing the subtle cues that everyone was giving off.
"Perhaps they are just being polite". Bullshit and Arsene knows isn't fooling himself with that knowledge but he's known to joke and charm his way in any situation if it called for it. Still, it could be a reason for one of the many others situated around them. It wasn't like he was a mind reader even though the thought of him able to hear thoughts sounded cool and not boring.
