The biggest Easter egg yet
I’ve been meaning to address this for a while now, but @camdenleisurepirates gave me the final push after reading my piece on Gabriel’s cross. Huge thanks for that morsel of motivation, my ADHD brain loves you.
This is going to be yet another long read, although not as extensive as my bookshop statues meta. Still, better get yourself some hot chocolate or another drink of your choice and make sure you’re comfortable!
Now, remember the X-Ray interview with Peter Anderson on Easter Eggs in the opening animation he created for the second season? Forget red herrings, apparently our fandom has a literal red phone box! I’m convinced that this whole scene is a one big — the biggest, actually — Easter Egg, and I’ll explain why step-by-step.
The red phone box Crowley used to warn Aziraphale about the Antichrist and the following Armageddon in S1, the exact one where he left change for an emergency call, seems important enough in terms of the future S3 plot, but there’s so much more going on in this frame. Not only the lift.
The angels
At the very start of this sequence we can see a fragment of an elaborate bridge guarded by cherubs sitting on two columns, maybe globes, leading to a distant structure built over a literal mountain of trash — all elements of the S1 and S2 openings which were consciously picked out by the animators and put together in a very ominous pile.

In the Gabriel’s cross meta, I already mentioned the importance of Ponte Sant’Angelo in relation to the ex-Archangel’s statue. Now it’s time to widen our perspective and focus on the full picture — quite literally. Apparently the bridge from the opening sequence has ten statues of angels, exactly as the Italian historical monument.

First things first though: the two big cherubs guarding the entry to the bridge might seem familiar to some of you. While they’re obviously not copies of the same statue, a very similar pair of brass cherubs is placed in Aziraphale’s bookshop to symbolize Aziraphale and Crowley. And looking at the screenshot above and the way they sleep or sulk with their backs turned on each other, they are most certainly not talking. The addition of more than one set of eyes is a lovely reference to biblically accurate angel memes though.
If we assume the traditional left-right positioning of the characters, Aziraphale is on the left and Crowley is on the right. Directly behind Aziraphale we can see a ship named “Good Traits”, but in reverse — kinda sorta confirmed by the animator Peter Anderson to be connected to the concept of the seven deadly sins on Twitter. Same that was mentioned recently by Neil in one of his asks.

The presence of Gabriel — a renegade Archangel wielding a broken cross — on the right, Crowley’s side, seems to match this theory. It could also support one of the possible interpretations of the very last bookshop shot in the S2 finale.

Out of all ten statues, Angel Carrying the Cross by Ercole Ferrata is considered inferior to the others on the bridge in that it appears to be a two-dimensional relief sculpture rather than an unbounded three-dimensional artwork, which seems to match Gabriel’s first impression as a character.
The inscription on the statue reads, “Dominion rests on his shoulders" — that is the weight of the cross that Christ was forced to carry through Jerusalem before being crucified. Even though Gabriel’s burden partially disappeared, the whole bridge and its environment is covered with crosses. It’s clear that we’re looking at a direct parallel of Via Crucis, the Way of Sorrows.

Towering over the Italian bridge, at the very top of Castel Sant’Angelo, is a statue of Archangel Michael, seen as the golden angel on the top left part of the trash pile. Aziraphale’s side, perhaps as his assistant, perhaps a rival? Legends of the Jews mention Michael as the chief of a band of angels who questioned God's decision to create man on Earth. The entire band of angels, except for Michael, was condemned to Fall — which could explain why they have such a good access to the Grapevine That Obviously Doesn’t Exist. And whatever’s going on between Michael and Dagon, perhaps.
In Roman Catholic teachings, Michael has four main roles or offices. Their first role is the leader of the Army of God and the leader of Heaven's forces in the final triumph over the powers of Hell. Viewed as the angelic model for the virtues of the spiritual warrior, their conflict with evil taken as the battle within. The second and third roles of Michael deal with death. Their second role is that of an angel of death, carrying the souls of Christians to Heaven. Michael descends at the hour of death and gives each soul the chance to redeem itself before passing; thus throwing the devil and his minions into consternation. In their third role, Michael weights souls on perfectly balanced scales they are often depicted with as their attribute. In their fourth role, Michael appears as the guardian of the Church. Might be the reason why they’re the closest to the building on top of the mountain.
It looks like Michael lost their sword though, just like Gabriel lost a part of the cross he was supposed to carry. The sword in question was supposed to be used to slay the dragon — Satan, the Adversary — according to John of Patmos and his Book of Revelations.

Speak of the devil: interestingly, there are two copies of an anonymous variation of the Angel of Light statue appearing twice on both sides of the bridge. Both the title as well as the statue itself seem like obvious references to one (former) angel literally called the Lightbringer, Lucifer. Perhaps one of them is representing his son, the Antichrist, instead, with the both of them helping out the Ineffables on two opposing — or perhaps only parallel — sides of the bridge?

The light carried by Lucifer appears to be green, a color used in the series as a visual representation of Hell, but on the intertextual level might also serve as a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby and the green light at the end of the Daisy’s dock symbolizing the undying love, desperation, and longing for an unattainable dream. In the story, the color represents the limitations of power and money. Not surprisingly, the novel appears on Jim’s bookshelf and is part of the Good Omens book club — a list of personal recommendations from Neil Gaiman and Douglas Mackinnon for the fans to catch up on before the next series.

Last but not least, the possible connection to Libertas as the inspiration for the Statue of Liberty, shown multiple times in S2 as a foreshadowing of our character’s trip to America in S3. The related quote of Patrick Henry “Give me liberty or give me death” becomes even more relevant if we consider how the motto of the French Revolution was sometimes written as Liberté, égalité, fraternité ou la mort (“Liberty, equality, fraternity or death”). A lesson surely learnt by a certain angel back in 1793, when he was held prisoner for the last time before being forcefully taken Upstairs in the Final Fifteen.

The bridge and the castle
Okay, these are the basic observations. Now a brief historical overview and we will reach the fun bit in a jiffy.
Have you ever wondered about the meaning of this whole complex? It wasn’t always angelic, but named after a Roman noble dynasty. The Aelian bridge was built by the Emperor Hadrian in 134 AD to span River Tiber from the city center to his mausoleum. With time, the remains of more emperors were put to rest in there, until it was plundered and destroyed in a war. Then the remaining structure was transformed into a military fortress and a castle serving as the papal residence in times of war.

The Papal State also used Sant'Angelo as a prison; the Renaissance philosopher Giordano Bruno was imprisoned there for six years. Executions of the inmates were performed in the small inner courtyard, but they weren’t the only deaths in the area. On the other side of the bridge, in the adjoining Piazza del Ponte, under the watchful eyes of the stone likenesses of two saints, the public executions were held, and the heads of the criminals were brought onto the bridge and exposed to public view there.
As a prison, the former mausoleum is also the setting for the third act of Giacomo Puccini's 1900 opera Tosca. Long story short, the eponymous heroine convinces her lover to feign death so that they can flee together. Unfortunately, they are betrayed and the firing squad shoots at him with real bullets instead of blanks. Tosca believes in the quality of his acting performance rather than the truth, and when the realization hits her, she leaps to her death from the Castel’s ramparts.

After Nero’s bridge was destroyed, the travelers were forced to cross this bridge as the only direct route to the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica, earning it the nickname “the bridge of Saint Peter”. That’s why in the 16th century Pope Clement VII erected statues of Saints Peter and Paul at the ends of the bridge, guarding it as they are supposed to protect the entry to Heaven.
In 1688 the bridge was embellished with ten angel statues, five on each side of the bridge, carrying Arma Christi, the Instruments of the Passion. The Good Omens characters represented by those statues in the opening sequence might be other instruments of Christ’s suffering as parts of the system that needs to be overthrown or replaced.

One angel appears particularly important in the context of both the bridge and the Second Coming — Saint Michael the Archangel.
Legend holds that the Archangel Michael appeared atop Hadrian’s mausoleum, sheathing their sword as a sign of the end of the plague of 590, thus lending the castle its present name. A less charitable yet more apt elaboration of the legend, given the militant disposition of this particular Archangel, was heard by the 15th-century traveler who saw an angel statue on the castle roof. He recounts that during a prolonged season of the plague, Pope Gregory I heard that the populace, even Christians, had begun revering a pagan idol at the church of Santa Agata in Suburra. A vision urged the Pope to lead a procession to the church. Upon arriving, the idol miraculously fell apart with a clap of thunder. Returning to St Peter's by the Aelian Bridge, the Pope had another vision of an angel atop the castle, wiping the blood from his sword on his mantle, and then sheathing it. While the Pope interpreted this as a sign that God was appeased, this did not prevent Gregory from destroying more sites of pagan worship in Rome. In honor of the vision and Michael, the bridge was renamed in their name.

What if the procession from the opening sequence was meant to imitate the procession led by the Pope from the legend? What if Aziraphale, now officially a Supreme Archangel, Commander of the Heavenly Host, is the one actually leading it, with Crowley finally at his side as his partner and second in command, just like it was proposed by him in the Final Fifteen?*
What if by some reason, maybe personal ambition, maybe just a tragic coincidence or situational necessity, there really was an impostor in Heaven, and Metatron — the so called Voice of God who seemingly doesn’t speak up for Herself since Job’s test — has been playing a winged version of the Wizard of Oz all along?
It would make just the perfect sense if not for one tiny detail. The procession we see on the bridge is actually led by Crowley, which doesn’t fit the parallel at all — unless it’s actually a proof of an ongoing body swap, as the mismatched names of the actors could also suggest?

The mountain of trash and the bookshop
The symbolic mountain of trash we can see Aziraphale and Crowley climb is a reference in itself. To an actual mount called Zion, believed to be the place where Yahweh, the God of Israel, dwells (Isaiah 8:18; Psalm 74:2), the place where God is king (Isaiah 24:23) and where God has installed king David on his throne (Psalm 2:6).

In a literal sense, it’s a hill in Jerusalem, although the sources refer to three different locations in different contexts — although for the purpose of this meta the Upper Eastern Hill (Temple Mount) makes the most sense. Its highest part became the site of Solomon's Temple. The same King Solomon the rituals in Freemasonry refer to. Masonic buildings, where lodges and their members meet, are sometimes called "temples" specifically as an allegoric reference to King Solomon's Temple, not actual places of worship. And Aziraphale’s bookshop is built around Solomon’s Magic Circle.
In a metaphysical sense, and especially in the context of the Christian New Testament, it is also believed to be a part of Heaven — the heavenly Jerusalem, God's Holy, eternal city. Christians are said to have “(…) come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven” (Hebrews 12:22-23 cf. Revelation 14:1). Just like the procession were following in the opening sequence.

There’s been some speculation whether the lift on top of the mountain could symbolize Aziraphale’s bookshop, or, more specifically, the oculus in its centre. If you look closely at the enhanced screenshot, you can see that the dome isn’t made of glass and that it looks like a tower (a church’s bell tower, perhaps) more than a whole building.
And there is an actual doorway in there — not like the modern lift doors — opening up towards the source of that white, heavenly light. And what kind of enlightenment can you usually find up in the skies or heavens?

We’re welcomed to crack open the doors to the Heavenly Sanctuary — the Most Holy place, Sanctum Sanctorum, the Holy of Holies — to undraw the final curtain and finally stand eye to eye with God. Who knows, maybe even ask some questions or listen to some answers.
Or, at the very least, to meet one of Her forms known as Jesus Christ. Because that’s precisely where he serves as our (humanity’s) Mediator and the Holy Priest after his Ascension to Heaven. The structure at the top reminds of some temple architecture seen in Antiquity and Christianity.

The Catholic Church considers the Church tabernacle or its location (traditionally at the rear of the sanctuary) as the symbolic equivalent of the Holy of Holies, due to the storage of consecrated hosts in that vessel and their meaning as the Body of Christ. Tabernacle is commonly marked with a red light turned on and off depending on His presence or lack if it.
Looks like He’s already in the area, one way or another, keeping eye on some things.

Are we following a procession of believers happy to embrace their one and true Savior? Or are they actually protesters on their way to dethrone the authority and the system?

Neil as a team captain is positively delightful, because making him captain is both absolutely insane and absolutely brilliant. It capitalizes on the passive effect of having one (1) Neil Josten (god knows the world couldn’t handle if there were more of him) on the team in the most efficient way. Like. I’m 90% sure that after spending some time around him on the same team, most people will look up to him completely awestruck for how much he has impacted their lives, but that’s just not what is actually happening here. I feel like what’s going on is this:
Neil is a terribly amazing choice for team captain entirely because Neil is a meddlesome little asshole who will forcibly fix all of his teammates’ personal problems and improve their entire lives for literally no other reason than that he needs them to be able to focus on fucking ball so he can win at sports. It’s not even that he genuinely cares about people and their well-being (apart from his original foxes). He just gets pissed when things aren’t working properly because it makes Exy annoying when the lineup can’t communicate. Exy isn’t supposed to be annoying. Exy is life. He’d meddle whether he is captain or not, but by making him captain, he has so much more official executive power at his hands. It’s like people are explicitly asking for him to do his worst. So, fueled by his own competitiveness and love for the sport, off he goes.
Neil is just as bad as Kevin when it comes to his Exy obsession. The major difference between them is that Kevin is endlessly tactical and he runs Exy with a focus on a technical and physical level entirely, whereas Neil’s approach is to look beyond a lack of practice and basically psychoanalyzing people on why they are not doing 110% for Exy. Kevin says “let’s run this drill 500 times, then we will inevitably be better”. Meanwhile Neil is scheming how to coerce and bribe people into life-changing decisions and long-needed healing, entirely because he wants to optimize playing a sport. Exy is a team sport, which is why this is the most logical approach his little Exy brain comes up with rather than minding his own fucking business. He looks at the team and is like “is anyone gonna whip this into shape? No?? I’ll fucking do it then cowards” and goes and does exactly that. It’s like he’s fixing the equipment so he can play.
I don’t think anyone except for Andrew is really aware that Neil really isn’t doing this out of the innate goodness of his heart, but because his personal brand of practicality involves the most convoluted and creative kind of scheming. I feel like Neil is a lot more selfish than people give him credit for. Sure, there’s people he cares deeply and unconditionally for, but that’s really not everyone. It’s fascinating to watch, especially because it’s not like he ever hides that he doesn’t particularly care, but people kinda assume he does, because why else would he put in this much effort?
Exy. The answer is Exy.

I love the idea of Billy and Max gradually developing a sibling relationship.
It starts off really small. Billy is waiting for her after school instead of driving off and making her skate home.
The rides are silent for the most part, until one day Billy speaks up.
"Everything good?" He'd ask as his way of checking up on her. Max would always say yes, until one day she'd say no and tell Billy about the time a girl got snarky with her in the hallway, so the next day, Billy beats the girl's brother up in front of her.
The girl never gets snarky again, and Max realizes Billy actually cares about her problems.
She starts asking him if everything's good. He'll say yes, sometimes no, but never elaborate.
Eventually, she feels comfortable enough to ask him to drive a friend home, but only because it's an emergency. He obliges.
It happens from time to time. A friend needs a ride because of the weather, because they're going in the same direction, because they need to do a project together. Billy never complains.
Over time, they go by a silent rule. If the door's shut, fuck off, if it's cracked, you can come in.
Max would peek in in the beginning, just to see if he's there, see what he's doing.
She'd start standing in the doorway, making small talk. Billy would nonchalantly respond while preoccupied. At some point, she'd start inviting herself in, accepting the silent ajar door invitation.
It takes a lot of time, but they grow closer.
Billy admits he’s “kinda into” Steve. Max offers to talk to him, Billy says no, tells her not to get involved because he’ll “figure it out eventually.”
Max would stop standing in corners when she entered his room. Start sitting down, start lying on his bed, falling asleep complaining to him about school and whatever Lucas did.
He'd carry her to her bed, then he'd take her to get food on weekends, then he'd start picking up little trinkets and gifts that remind him of her. He'd toss them at her like they're meaningless little things he comes across. Max collects them all and starts leaving "meaningless little things" for him too.
He'd get his arm broken fighting with Neil when he defends Max.
There can't be 2 men of that house. Neil's plans fall through. Loses control. Susan and Max are siding with Billy and speaking up whenever Neil tries to hurt him. He's outnumbered and life finally gets better. He has a family.
Max always wanted a brother. Billy wanted to be happy.
Everything’s good.

My idea was if the reader was dating billy and is friends with Eddie and the whole gang? Maybe just some fluff of them hanging out as a group but billy makes it known he's with the reader through pda and being cuties with her
Note : I don't really see Billy being really an affectionate type around people.
You stared down at your lap and fidget with your fingers as you felt eyes on you.
It felt like the most uncomfortable silence as your friends stare in disbelief in what they were seeing. It wasn’t anything that bad, you thought.
To them, this was a first and a shocker to them all. You had a boyfriend.
His name was Billy Hargrove. The same Billy Hargrove that picked on Steve.
The same Billy Hargrove that called, his step sister Max, shit bird. The very same on that drove the loud Camara. 
  An arm wraps around your shoulder as someone pulls you into them, its familiar arm fills you with comfort. It’s Billy.
He chews the gum in his mouth as he stares down back at Eddie, Dustin, Steve, Max and the rest like they were challenging him. 
“ Is this a joke? Have you done something to her, Hargrove because I swear-” Eddie gets off by you as your head shot up and you shake your head. 
“ Eddie, stop” you stood up from your spot that you were sitting at to stop Eddie who looked like he was ready to throw hands if he needed to. He had his fist by his side as his jaw clenched tight. 
“ I don’t understand why you were with him. I mean, come out. Out of every guy in Hawkins. You pick him” Steve throws his hands up as he shakes his head in disbelief.
He was more shocked that he wasn’t your first choice in this matter. The two of you were close and had moments where the two of you would flirt. 
Steve didn't like this at all.
Billy smirked as he eyed Steve. Steve kept muttering to himself with his hands folded across his chest. 
Max had a feeling the two of you would get together since you kept coming over to tell “ I’m just tutoring Billy. The teacher asked me to, and I was happy to do it.” You had to use that to be around Billy in his room to get past Neil.
He wasn’t too happy about having a girl in Billy’s room. 
The door was to be opened and one day Neil walked by to see the two of you closer than he liked and the studying had to be done in the kitchen.
Susan had turned a liking to you and she would watch some softness come out in Billy when you were around. She didn’t dare to tell Neil. 
Max saw it too. 
“ Did you know anything about this?” Dustin asked, as he looked towards Max for answers. Max simply had a smile on her face as she shrugged. 
“ You two really think they are together?” Steve suddenly asked, coming out of his pouty face and uncrossed his arms as he continued to stare down at Billy with a glare on his face.
“ These two must be playing some game.” 
“ Games are for kids, Harrington. Seems like that more your turf” Billy says. 
Inside Billy was kinda nervous being surrounded by your friends who were staring like they were about to run after him with pitchforks. 
“ Who did you make a bet with, hm?” The question catches you off guard and everyone turns to stare at Eddie who for one second doesn’t believe you are going out with Billy Hargrove.
There was no way. 
“ Did Carver put you up to this?” Eddie continued to ask. “ The two of you seem to chatter like little old ladies from the last time I saw you two.” 
“ What is your business that I talk to my friends about, Munson?” Billy asked.
“ Friends” Steve, snorted. 
Billy turns to Steve hearing him snicker. 
“ You have something to say, Harrington?” Steve shot up from his seat as he put his hands on his hips as he stared down at Billy. “ Why her?” Steve asks. 
Billy’s face changes at the question and Robin swore for a moment she saw it.
There was a wall breaking that he had put up a front like he always does. Her eyes widened a bit as she caught it. She looked around the room to see if anyone else caught it.
No one did as they continued to look at Billy. She felt proud of herself and mentally gave herself a pat on her head.
You glanced up at your boyfriend who still has his arms around you. He felt you staring at the side of his head and turned his head to glance down at you.
His blue eyes met your own and they were shining. 
“ Is that a smile?” Dustin asked. Max swatted his arm. “ Ow! That hurt, no need to get abusive. Jeesus.” 
She only did it because she saw Billy was having a moment as he looked down at you. She never saw him like this. Happy. 
“ Because she makes me feel like I’m not alone, that finally I belong” what Billy really wanted to say was that he loves you but he wasn’t about to say it in front of your friends knowing they were going to use that against him. 
You melted at his words knowing he meant that you made him feel safe. You made him feel wanted. That he mattered. To you. That was enough for him. 
The girls “ awed” at his words and happily sighed seeing the way Billy looked at you and the way you looked at him. 
Your hand came up to cup his cheek, immediately he leaned into your touch feeling it would be a while since you’ll touch him again.
Some of his hair falls into his eyes while he leans in and they sparkle. 
“ Gross” and “ ew” and “ I’m going to throw up” are what interrupted the moment between the two of you. Billy forgot for a moment that other people were in the room with him and you.
Immediately a scold appeared on his face as he turned to your friends. Their eyes widened at his fast reaction and they all gulped. 
“ If any of you use the words I said leave your mouth and I hear you babbling, I will not hesitate to do something about it. Is that clear?” Billy asked with his fist by his sides. 
The gang didn’t get to answer him because your hand reached out to tug his jacket letting him know you wanted his attention. His eyes drop down where your hand is tugging his jacket and his fist unclenches.
“ Sit down, Billy. They won’t. I know them. Right, guys?” you turn to look at your friends. “ I’m really happy with him and I know you guys aren’t happy with me right now. But he cares about me, I care about him and that should be enough for you guys.” 
Billy sits back down as his hand lands on your leg as it rests there with your hand falling on top of him. The sensation of warmth fills him and his heart races as he turns to look at you. The smile returns to his face. 
For the first time everyone is shocked and finds it strange how you softened Billy Hargrove. He was smiling right now crying out loud. 
“ Hargrove” Eddie calls out to Billy, catching his attention. “ I will not hesitate to break your bones or light your car on fire if you ever hurt her” he points his ring finger at Billy.
“ I don’t care if you're sorry or you're going to plead. You hurt her. I will hurt you.” 
Eddie has always been the most protective of you, you were like a little sister to him.
You were always coming over to bring him food, making sure he was fed and looking after him when he’s sick. You would check on Wayne too, make sure he had new clothes to wear too. You were family to the Munson’s. 
“ Eds” you called out to him. He turns his head to glance at you. 
“ Thank you for looking out for me, but I can handle it.” 
“ I’m never going to hurt her, '' Billy says. “ If I do, then shit bird can sell my car, '' he says with a grumble. His car means a lot to him and for him to say that means that he does really care about you. The gang is surprised once again. 
“ Don’t sell it, we can burn it” Mike says. Billy goes up to look like he was going to pounce on Mike but you hold him back, shaking your head. 
“ We’re serious Hargrove,” Steve says. “ You do anything to hurt her, in any way” he points to the gang, “ you better run. Because you are not coming back on your two legs” 
“ She means a lot to us” Nancy says “ she’s our best friend.” 
“ That we do anything for” Lucus says. 
Billy chuckles, “ You don’t scare me peepsqueaks” he looks between Dustin, Lucas and Mike. 
“ We’re serious Billy” Max says to him. “ Even if you're my step brother. You hurt her-” 
“ We hurt you” El finishes. “ But we're happy for you,” she adds as he looks around the group. “ Right?” The group grumbles underneath their breath. 
“ No, say it with me” El claps her hands as he points to you and Billy “ we are happy for them.” 
All you heard were a bunch of groans and “ yeah, yeah” and “ we don’t trust him still” and Robin said, “ he’s more of a dingus than Harrington is.” 
You loved your friends and wouldn’t change them for the world.
Sudden feeling of a peck on your cheek breaks your attention from looking at your friends but at your boyfriend who shrugs like he wasn’t the one who did it.
But he did. He wanted to show some sort of affection, but not too much because he isn’t like that around people. 
You knew he only did that to show that you really were his and he was serious about you to your friends.
Even though he did place his hands on your leg and had his arm around you. He got up the courage to kiss you on the cheek. 
You didn’t ask him to show this type of affection. He did it on his own and you can tell he was proud of himself as he glanced at his lap with his cheeks hinted red. 
“ Okay, there will be none of that around” Dustin says as he points between the two of you. 
“ There will be ground rules if he is going to be around us” Mike says. 
Max rolls her eyes, but she nods a little knowing what was coming. 
�� There will be no kissing,” Dustin says. 
“ No touching like” Mike looks down at himself looking around where. Robin hits him upside the head which he whines about as he rubs the back of his head, glaring at her. 
“ That wasn’t necessary,” he says.
“ Trust me, it was,” Steve says. 
“ But ease down on the public affection. If the two of you want to touch and make out, there is a home were two of you live in and a car which you drive in” Eddie says. 
“ Are you jealous, Munson?” Billy asked as he leaned a bit to inspect Eddie. Eddie scrunched up his nose and shook his head. He felt a shiver run down his spine. 
“ Jealous of what? You two? No way, Y/N is like a sister to me and that would be gross” 
In the middle of this, your hand interlaces with Billys and it doesn’t slide between your friends as the spot it. 
“ awe, they are holding hands' ' El gushes and stares at Mike, hitting his shoulder. “ Why do you not hold my hand anymore?” Mike rubs his shoulder as he looks away from El and looks around asking for help. 
The rest of the conversation between your friends, you block out because you happily stare at your boyfriend as he starts to talk with you friends.
You were hoping they would warm up to him. You squeezed Billy’s hand letting him know you're still there and not going to leave any time soon. 
Billy had the warmest feeling inside, he began to laugh with his friends and teased Steve. 
This felt like home.

I’ve been obsessing about Crowley not taking his glasses off for that 1941 memory for ages 😂 thank you for articulating that so clearly. It’s so painful slowly realising some of the differences between how they’ve experienced all the flashbacks. I dread (a little) to think what happened next in 1941 especially with how they next meet in 1967 and are very fragile. Maybe one of the few times they are on a similar, painful, page?
It's one of those things that just kinda built in the back of my brain every time I looked at that scene until it just. turned into a full puzzle.
The thing is that what we have seen so far does not explain the way they behave in 1967 and it's honestly driving me insane when I think about it too much. Because they're not on the same page in 1967!
When Aziraphale says no to a lift and then tells Crowley to not look disappointed—yeah, there's disappointment, but he is mainly surprised. He expected Aziraphale to say yes to a drive.
Maybe Crowley is the one who pulled the breaks in '41 and thinks that Aziraphale still wants him to initiate something, so when he immediately puts up walls instead he doesn't understand why.
OR actually, after another rewatch (or five) of that scene, let's say Aziraphale rejected Crowley in '41 since Crowley seems somewhat cold-ish right up until the holy water shows up. Then he does a complete 180 and is suddenly very soft, he keeps looking at Aziraphale (who is now looking AWAY after keeping his eyes on him before that), and seeing the holy water as a peace offering, offers a lift in return.
To Crowley, the holy water is an apology, an I'm sorry I rejected you (or whatever went down), so he thinks it is also Aziraphale saying he's ready now—and then he makes it very clear that he still isn't. Bringing up the Ritz with "perhaps" and "someday", and so Crowley tries to compromise.
"Anywhere you wanna go" is please, just give me something here, angel, and when Aziraphale looks at him NOW, he KEEPS looking at him, and his eyes flit between Crowley's glasses and his lips. Aziraphale looks and he hesitates, and then rejects him again.
"You go too fast for me Crowley" is so fucking painful, and there's so much in that one sentence, but it is also quite literal in regards to time. Aziraphale is literally 105 years behind because that's when Crowley asked for holy water and said no—he's giving him the water in 1967 when it should have been in 1862.
They have somehow once again ended up living on parallel but displaced planes of existence.
Sorry, this ended up being way longer than intended because you magically compelled me to go look at the 1967 clip and it all spiraled from there jshdkad
In conclusion, Neil i NEED to know what happened.

Neil and Todd // my general opinion & things I found
The other day I was searching for some Infos about DPS and this came to me

And I started thinking that this makes so much sense. After all it's in the '50s that this story is placed.
We all knew something was going on between them but obviously it couldn't be said or shown because of the opinion people would have of them. But I think it's also because they never needed the approval of anyone to be in love.
Also I saw this while looking at Todd's page

When the girls thing happened I always thought that they were not interested in the girls because they don't like girls in that way , so that's why they're kinda confused when Charlie brings them over to the cave

And last but not least, I kinda think Mr Keating knew that they had a thing for each other. That's why in the scene (of the movie) in which Neil's father is dragging him away, Keating, let Todd get past him to try and reach Neil to stop him from leaving

I'm claiming it for the SoapRoach/GhostRoachSoap nation now.
HERES THE PLAN:
Deep undercover Soap, he grew his hair and beard out specifically to infiltrate a terrorist cell thats been slowly growing. It's headed by an American and notoriously hard to get involved in, but through monitoring the channels the 141 learned that the cell were looking for someone to help make explosives and shit for them.
So with months in the making the 141 craft this false identity for Soap. He's not Soap, he's just John McCormick and he's ex-militaty currently on the run for deserting. Its a perfect disgust because Soap is essentially allowed to be himself and have his same knowledge without worrying about remembering a harsh backstory or staying in character. The hair and beard are to add to this idea that he's trying to stay hidden.
Finally everything is ready and he goes undercover. It takes about a month, but he finally gets brought into the terrorist cell and pretty quickly works his way up the ladder until he's being introduced to the head guy. Johnathan Sanderson, a man who'd lost almost his entire family thanks to the US military and was out for harsh revenge.
The only member of his family remaining is his younger brother, Gary "Roach" Sanderson who isn't really involved in what his brother does despite knowing about it. He stays close because Johnathan is too overprotective and refuses to chance losing him too.
During his time undercover, Soap gets close to Roach and kinda maybe starts seeing him. He knows he shouldn't, he knows it can never really work, but he just can't help himself. Roach is too lovely and the two just get along so well.
Soap wants to tell Roach, he wants to tell him so bad, but he keeps things hidden.
The undercover op lasts almost two years of Soap trying to get the information that will allow the 141 to bring down the terrorist cell once and for all. Thats nearly two years of lying and secretly reporting back to, secretly communicating, and secretly meeting his team. Two years of being together with Roach and falling into a routine with him. Two years that lead to him eventually proposing to Roach, despite the fact that he knows he shouldn't. He just wants to pretend, just for a little longer.
Then, of course, he gets the information he needs, but in the process exposes himself. He's forced to run and barely makes it back to the 141 alive. Roach is informed that his fiance John was an undercover operative the entire time and, within days, the entire terrorist cell are being arrested or are getting themselves killed fighting back.
Roach gets arrested, but its more to get him out of harms way and to interrogate him rather than actually put him in jail.
He's getting interrogated by Price, Ghost, and Gaz about his brother when Soap steps into the room. He's not said a fucking word the entire time before Soap comes into the room and by the time Soap does, Price is threatening him with jail time. Soap like leans over the table and is like, "Roach...please just tell them what they want to know."
And Roach just refuses to look at him but Soap is still trying and he's just speaking softly and eventually Roach just snaps at him, "Why would you care what happens to me? You seemed pretty content just to use me for your own needs, John."
And Soap is like, "Please, please that isn't what was happening I swear." Price and the 141 pull Soap out of the room and get filled in about the little secret that Soap was hiding in that he'd started a relationship with and had even proposed to Roach.
Soap begs to be given some time because he's sure that he can get Roach to answer their basic questions about his involvement. So they let Soap go back into the room alone.
Soap gets into the room and for like the first thirty minutes to an hour Roach refuses to speak with him and they end up sitting in silence or with Soap being the only one talking. Then, finally, Soap mentions something about their engagement and Roach snaps.
Roach starts accusing him of only using him to get to his brother, of Roach being a pawn in whatever game he was playing, of Soap still trying to trick him now by playing on the love that Roach has for him. Soap refutes every point and swears up and down that he's in love with Roach and that Roach was never part of his plan to get to his brother.
Eventually Soap is like, "What do I have to do to prove to you that I love you?"
Roach answers, "Leave the 141. Leave the military."
Soap pauses for a short moment before, "If thats what it takes. If thats what makes you believe." And he leaves the room and comes back like an hour later with the papers that he would need to resign from the military and Roach is just gaping while watching him sign them.
And eventually Soap finishes and sets the pen down and slides the papers over to Roach so he can look at them and see that they're legit. Roach takes one look at them before just breaking down sobbing.
He finally answers the questions while crying into Soap's chest and clinging to him and at the end of it Price is like, "Okay, you're free to go." And Soap hands Price the resignation papers, but before Price can take them Roach grabs them and just rips them in half.
Soap asks him what he's doing in a panic and Roach (still crying) is just like, "I can't ask you to leave for me, I didn't think you'd actually do it, I'm sorry."
And it takes time and patience, Roach essentially has to relearn who his boyfriend is and Soap has to earn his trust back, but eventually the two work things out and the wedding is back on and Johnathan (in jail) is lowkey pissed on Roach's behalf but won't show that in front of Roach so he just glares daggers and mouths mean things to Soap when Roach isn't looking ajdbhdhsbd
Anyways yeah...I also have ideas on how to make this GhostRoachSoap so if you want that...lmk

HIERARCHY OF
DREAMTALE

The hierarchy is important but it's not at the same time, because people that are more down in the hierarchy don't even knowledge it's existence, but the people above it knows it.
Let me tell you the details:
Hopeful is above everyone because he's THE HOPE, you should thank him just for existing.
Messiahs are people who help people across the multiverse, they're are sort of semi-gods, "blessed" by Hopeful, Neil uses his powers to organize the doodle-sphere avoiding it from crashing, Soul helps people in danger and bring them to Dreamtale. Both help Hopeful in a way.
Rich people are... self-explanatory, even thought dreamtale has socialist characteristics it also has capitalist characteristics (politics, out of nowhere, holy shit)
Icons are the people who represents a color in the rainbow system, and each color represent an element of harmony, which are 9 now: Empathy, generosity, laughter, humility, loyalty, honesty, bravery and... and magic... (is that an MLP FiM reference?????). They help to maintain the harmony inside dreamtale, while the messiahs do it outside dreamtale.
From dreamtale, weren't presented yet, even thought their designs aren't ready, without colors, i replaced some of Joku's OC's (that's not an offense) with undertale chrs, because... cuz' i wanted to :/. People from dreamtale are above Outsiders because they were born in dreamtale, they're "already blessed", they were born in "the paradise"
Outsiders are people from the multiverse, other AU's, rescued or not, that aren't from the rainbow system. They go there searching for a better life.
The drawings are kinda ugly but what matters is that it's showcasing the thing it's suppose to... if you did read that... i love you.

cuz i keep seeing those videos with my love mine all mine on my feed with consistently ugly-sob-inducing stories and roman empires so now i have this long list i wanna share
+ may include some little facts here and there for anyone new in the fandom

• hopkins’s portrayal
its kind of a 50/50 since bro barely has screen time, yet i see his character oftentimes being portrayed as the class asshole
i think it’s clear that him and his friends commit tomfoolery and are overall jerks but to think that he’s the more sensible, level-headed guy makes a lot of sense to me—kinda similar to charlie in a way
like he knows limits and when to not push them even if he doesn’t come off that way. all bro does is chill in class and stare off into the windows daydreaming (as shown in the whole ripping out the poetry intro scene). bro doesn’t wanna be there. he’s just chilling and honestly same💀
• spencer’s actual treatment in the movie
ik we love this man, and our headcanons (or at least what i’ve seen and my own for the most part) say that people treat him well but low key everyone be on his shit
like it brings up the question of whether or not this is considered bullying cause any scene i see he’s either blatantly shoved around or even the guys around him purposely steal his medicine and pass it around so he can’t have it (including stick participating in this)-
like i think there’s some limits to being a jerk and idk how spencer really feels throughout the movie cuz he’s a background character :////
• HANDSOME ASS BACKGROUND CHARACTERS AND THEIR SCREEN TIMES = UNFAIR! CRIMINAL !!!!!
• the fact that ginny’s character just gets completely cutout. like she has a few lines to begin with and then the movie comes out and she ends up being a non-speaking extra in the play like i’m- what happened???
• tina and gloria / girl characters portrayed in dps in general
let me explain cuz i love them but also feel bad for their characters
like low key they’re just used as experiments for the cave (implied by charlie in a deleted scene that wasn’t recovered although i think this part is in the original script as well if i remember correctly)
although he brings them back a second time in a deleted scene where they’re all dancing around outside of the cave on the night of the play only for him to make out with one of them in another deleted scene that wasn’t recovered… (( this was revealed in an old interview on someone working behind the scenes btw ))
so like i kinda feel bad for them. like y’all just there for show but i wish you had more lines and other purposes besides possibly not passing a bechdel test ://////
^ lowkey this same concept is kinda seen with chris’s character too. like all she’s there for is a romantic interest for knox. like cmon now she’s one of the main female characters and THIS is what she gets. i wanna know more about my girl chris!!!!
and i kind of understand why it’s set up this way since y’know it’s an all male boarding school in the 1950s—how do you fit female characters in and how are they viewed? it’s not the greatest setup of all time

“What the fuck?”
“Shhhhh not so loud. You’ll wake them up.”
“I didn’t know they were together.”
“Ewww, Will, why would you say that?”
“Really, Dustin? Are you fucking blind?”
“Well, Max, after seeing them like that, I kinda wish I was.”
“Yeah, same.”
“Ugh, boys. You suck.”
Billy lay still in Steve’s arms with his eyes closed, pretending to be still asleep and listening to the dork squad pass judgment on this… whatever… him and Steve were doing.
By the sounds of it, Max and Baby Byers were on board while, unsurprisingly, the annoying Wheeler kid and Henderson were making exaggerated gagging noises. Billy wondered what Sinclair and that psychic kid would think about it. She low-key terrified him.
As if he’d make her materialize by thinking about her, she called out to the dork squad.
“I found Eggos.” 
Billy waited until the footsteps left the room to crack an eye open and sneak a glance towards the doorway to the kitchen. Baby Byers was standing there staring at Billy and when he noticed Billy looking back, he flinched before giving a little wave and rushing to the kitchen.
Steve grumbled then and rolled onto his back, his arm around Billy’s shoulders, pulling him to lie on Steve’s chest. Billy took that chance to look at him. The freckles sprinkled on his chest and neck, the hint of chest hair now he’d quit the swim team, those lips that did sinful things, the freckles on his cheek that Billy liked to kiss, his ridiculously amazing hair he was so proud of…
Billy felt his heart kick in his chest when he was reminded of the words Steve had said to him last night. Steve had said them over and over and they were spinning around in Billy’s head now, over and over. He knew he felt the same. Getting the words out was another matter. 
Billy knew that Steve might change his mind if Billy didn’t say it back. And he wanted to, he did, he’d never felt that way about anyone else. He’d never even said the words to anyone, not since his mom had fucked off leaving him behind. 
But once those words were out, there was a chance they might get back to Neil and then Billy was dead meat. He knew they’d been careful meeting up all those times they’d hooked up, but he worried that once he told Steve he loved him back, he’d lose that urge to hide his tracks and they’d get caught. That only spelled trouble.
With a sigh, Billy extracted himself from Steve’s embrace and quickly got into his clothes that Steve had got for him from the dryer last night. Pretty boy needed his beauty sleep so he left him to his slumber and headed for the kitchen to get some coffee.
Gritting his teeth and not making eye contact with any of them, he walked straight to the coffee machine, glad to see someone had thought to put it on. He grabbed a mug from the cupboard without thinking about it, rolling his eyes at the gasp he heard, then a scuffle and muffled ‘ow’.
Billy turned around, steaming mug close to his chest, taking small sips because that shit was hot, and leveled the kids with a blank stare. “What?”
“Nothing,” Max said with a grin. “Those idiots didn’t know you and Steve were friends now, is all.”
“Oh, right. And the fact that I was out there last night in the woods smashing monsters with a tire iron didn’t clue them in?”
“Speaking of,” Steve's sleepy voice interrupted whatever the kids were going to reply as they all turned to look at him. “You really should go wash off that blood, Billy.”
“Yeah.” Billy drained the last of his coffee and walked up to Steve who was standing in the doorway, not moving. “Get out of the way, pretty boy,” he said with a soft smile he was glad the kids couldn't see.
Steve smirked, then he slung one arm around Billy's waist, turning them so his back was to the kitchen, shielding Billy from the glares of irrate teenagers. “You go get clean, baby,” Steve whispered. “I'll call Hop and see about getting the brats home.”
Billy nodded, letting Steve press a short kiss to his lips before he headed down the hallway, ignoring the various outbursts coming from behind him.
Let him deal with the fall out. Billy was too fucking tired for this. Neil. The monsters. The added responsibility of having to care for so many people. Steve and his I love yous…
Billy took his time in the shower, wven washed his hair a couple of time. The Harringtons could afford the water bill and he needed to wash the previous night off his body. Too bad he couldn't wash off the memories as easily.
He wasn't looking forward to getting home, knowing there would be hell to pay for him for not being there when Neil and Susan got home the night before. Max would get a vague telling off but Billy knew he'd probably be missing school for a few days. 
Fuck. Maybe he'd be better off in the forest against the monsters. At least there he could fight back.
A knock on the door pulled him out of his dark thoughts.
“Billy? You okay?”
“Yeah, Stevie, just getting dressed. I'll be out in a minute.”
“Can I come in?”
“Door's unlocked.”
Steve opened the door, and he looked confused. “You didn't lock it?”
Billy shrugged then shoved his shirt into his pants. “Force of habit. I forgot. Not allowed at home.”
Steve stepped in and reached a hand out to Billy's arm. “What the fuck? Baby, that's fucked up.”
“Don’t make a big deal out of it, Harrington.” Billy moved out of his grasp. Steve just didn't get it. Billy lived by Neil's rules and probably would until it killed him.
“Oh wow. Yeah, okay, geez,” Steve said, clearly hurt and Billy felt like shit for resorting to calling him by his last name. It wasn't Steve's fault Billy's home life was fucked up. 
“I'm sorry, pretty boy. I'm fucking tired and I don't wanna go home because nothing good ever happens to me there.”
“Stay here then,” Steve said, like it was that easy.
“Steve…”
Steve stepped closer, wrapping his arms around Billy cautiously and Billy let him. “Billy, I love you and even if you don't feel the same way, it still means I worry about you. And I want you to be safe.”
Billy put his hands on Steve’s waist and rested his forehead against Steve's collarbone so he wouldn’t have to look at him. Steve would definitely know how Billy felt then. “It’s not that—”
“Not that easy, I know. But will you let me help? Please? Hop is coming to get some of the kids. He can take Max home. We can come up with some story to tell your dad to keep you out of there for a bit.”
“And then what happens when I do go home, Steve? He'll probably take me into the woods at the back and make me dig my own grave. God knows he's threatened me with it enough times.”
“Jesus fucking Christ. Yeah, you're not going back to that house. I don't care. We'll figure something out.”
“He’s my dad.” Billy was done talking about it. He needed to get Max and he needed to get the fuck home. With a bit of luck, Neil would be out and Billy could sleep for a few hours before he got what was coming to him.

“Billy, wait.”
Billy ignored him and stalked off to find Max, stopping in the lounge to get his leather jacket. He hollered, “Time to go, shitbird!” and found his keys where he'd left them, in that bowl on the sideboard in the foyer. Fucking rich people and their huge houses.
Max and the brat pack were furiously whispering but she must have seen how serious Billy was by his glare because she shuffled over to him with a loud sigh.
Billy turned to her friends and fixed them with a glare, one by one. “You nerds need to keep your mouths shut about this morning the same way you keep your mouths shut about those things in the woods or I will make you regret it. Understood?”

A funny little story full of funny little coincidences and sweet serendipity, but I know people on this site love that
This is a funny story of how I got into the Good Omens fandom. And it is so weird that sometimes I even amaze myself when I tell someone. But I love to tell this one....... so....................................
Late 2021 I watched Wilde and I absolutely loved it. And the best thing out of the movie was that I discovered Michael Sheen. I remember at the time being struck by two things: a) how this actor who had a side character and a small role was so magnificently out-acting great actors like Jude Law (just my personal opinion plz don't come at me for that) and all because of these beautiful micro-expression which I find myself criticizing many big actors like Brad Pitt even for that they lack good subtle micro expression and its as if their faces are dead, nothing is going on there. But Michael is always acting even when the camera is not focused on him he is in character. And (b) his fine beauty. I mean as a lesbian and more than that a portrait artist, I was mesmerized by the artistic beauty in the most non-sexual way.
And I found myself spiraling down the MS hole. And I watched literally everything he has ever done. Except one thing.
Good Omens.
That was because I love Neil Gaiman as a writer. His books have saved me during some very dark times in my love and his work is absolutely sacred to me. To be honest I didn't enjoy his other adaptations. They sucked the juiciness out of the books and kinda confirmed my earlier conviction that no filmed adaption of a book will ever do justce to the written word.
And it's so weird that I had seen all the other adaptations but I hadn't ever heard of GO adaptation.
And then one day I was like yk what just f^ck it. I'll just watch it and strike this one of my list (I'm a cinephile on a mission to watch almost everything ever made in the world).
So I'm watching it and I'm like oh look MS looks so ethereal. Born to play an angel. Look at those floofy wings.
BUT something was bugging me. Usually in most MS movies/shows he keeps out-shining, out-acting his co-stars. Just out there being the best making everyone else look flimsy. But here there was one person who is NOT looking flimsy with MS. Infact he keeps complementing him so perfectly it looks like a graceful waltz.
'Yeah so the demon guy is a great actor I guess'
But that's not why my mind is bugging me. There was something else some weird deja vu kind of familiarity.
I try to ignore it.
Two days later my sister is scrolling through her Pinterest and she goes "What's a Doctor Who?"
And I was like "It's an old childhood show I used to watch, you wouldn't know (she has never seen Doctor Who btw).... why're you asking?"
And she holds up her phone and she's like "Idk it says he's a Doctor Who?" (btw I love the way she says 'a Doctor Who')
And my mind went whoooooooosh!
It's such a strange feeling when stuff you'd forgotten, stuff that was once really special to you, but seems to be lost, and yet is only nestling in some corner of you chaotic mind waiting for the day it'll one day come into the light again, that's tuff comes whooshing back.
I grew up loving DW. Especially Ten. Well I was a tad bit pissed when Nine regenerated into DT and I was like noooooooo who's this skinny f^cker.... I don't want it. But I just fell in love with Ten. To my little lonely-kid-in-school-weirdo-nerd-wallflower self Ten was a best friend who made me feel that it's okay to be different to be geeky and childlike without being embarrassed. Ten was a secret best frined.
And when he regenerated I stopped watching the show. And I forgot about it because I was so busy adulting I lost track of everything I had cherished as a kid.
Now almost 15 years later I found out that my new favorite character (along with Aziraphale cz they're equally special to me) was played by the same person who played my childhood favorite character. And that he's also the best actor I have ever seen so I spiraled down DT hole and I am obsessed (not ashamed to say this). And guess what I found.... almost every show or movie I had watched as kid, he was there.... Ducktales, Harry Potter, Loud House, Einstein and Eddington, Mary Queen of Scots...... its endless.
And the 60th Anniversary special, well it's the most specialist thing to me. I feel like a child again.
GO and DW. Best things that ever happened to me
So thanking Neil Gaiman and Russel T. Davies and MS and DT for making my childhood better....... constantly, because it's never over..... the child lives in me constantly...... she's alive again. Thank you for keeping that child alive and helping her through the darkest nights .

A concept I was yapping about in a server a few months ago I think I should share here copy n paste style bc I kinda cooked w it
Nurf thinking him and Ered were good friends but Ered veiwing him with the same closeness she views the rest of the campbell kids like "yeah we're all friends" but he's like but I thought *we* were friends together, like Nerris and Harrison and Preston? Like Max Nikki and Neil? Like -
"Dude you're just listing parties of three,"
"I'm listing people who were *closer* Ered"
And she's just secretly awkward like wtf do you want from me? What do you want me to say? You were..a different kind of annoying than the rest sometimes, maybe less? Constantly trying to challenge me to bets n shit was atleast entertaining?? I'm not gonna poor my heart out to you just because you ask me to. Wanna go have therapy in the open woods for children to laugh at??? Wanna make a big blow out scene??
But she doesn't actually SAY any of that she just thinks it and gives him absolutely nothing to work with and Nurf just feels more alone than before, literally all he wants is a friend and the one he thought he had apparently didn't view him to the same extent and it makes him feel so shitty.
And maybe he could chalk it up to "Ered's just like that" but if I may be really silly and say in this concept she's become friends with Tyrone n Mitchell already Nurf just feels straight up *replaced* and takes it out on those two FREQUENTLY keeping his real feelings as to why he's being a dick a secret for once.
He goes to punch somebody else and it's a whole monologue first how this is bc of his dadBut he just *insults* these guys and doesn't even laugh at his own words like he usually does after.
And it doesn't even!!!!! Effect them!!! And it pisses him off worse!!! Even using the most petty tactic he still can't get any of them to hurt like he does and it's so frustrating.
Mitchell n Tyrone (I'm picturing this was a years worth ongoing problem or they were already in a HS AU)) pick up on something being off and finally get Ered to give some information and like girl no wonder the guy has been a total angry piss baby I'd feel terrible too if the one person who was the most regularly talking to me and sitting with me all summer only saw me just as important or lack there of as everyone else.
"You're saying it like I hate him, I don't, but I am getting irritated with this whole thing.. I'm not gonna start being MORE of his friend because he's throwing a fit"
Tyrone's like "but he's really not..? He's been leaving you alone now if you hadn't noticed, and mostly just saying the odd insult to us."
Mitchell: "You don't have to be his friend if you don't want to be that's your right."
Ered: "THANK you. Finally someone says it."
Mitchell: "But he gave you *his* friendship for a very long time and you did sort of spit on it. There's kind of a obvious reason he respected you enough to never make you a target"
"Because I'm technically top dog and he's two notches away from bottom dog, socially atleast."
"Because he *cherished your companionship,* Ered. He's pretty fuckin' equal opportunist if you haven't noticed."
Ered, starting to realize: "..............crap" bc!! Damnit Nurf is a sweetie under all his layers and she knows that and the guilt of hurting him is kinda weighing.
Ered leaves to go talk with him and Tyrone and Mitchell have what I think is a little funny interaction where Mitchell light heartedly is making a comment on the exchange they just had.
" 'top dog' no way she just said that, what is this, prison?? Did I wake up in *prison*?"
Tyrone, just as confused, speaking over him agreeingly: I know I know
And Nurf's just sitting in his room when his mom announces he has a friend here and he's like 'whuh' and Ered just. Steps in and stands there.
".. what do you want.?" Bc when she DOES talk to him to hang out, it's something she wants to do, *he's* stopped initiating things. And Ered has multiple people she's "not really close with but she calls over to do specific hobbies with" since she has so many hobbies.
"Just here to talk."
Okay now she has his attention did somebody fucking die what
"I haven't been a good friend to you." She states it pretty neutrally and flatly like everything she says
Nurf's just looking at her. Girl it is a Thursday afternoon on god's green earth he is trying to do his homework rn. Half of the awnsers atleast.
She doesn't even say sorry. That was just the statement she knew was true now. "If you would like,,.. I can be a better one." She looks over once then nods her head simply.
"You're offering to be my friend just straight up like that?" Is this kindergarten.
"Feel free to decline, man." She shrugs, still neutral.
"No,no I'm not saying that" he puts his pencil down. "Can I just get an honest awnser why I wasn't one to you before?"
Ered sighs. "Promise not to tell?" Speaks a little quieter.
And he is listening SO HARD!!!!!!!
Ered inhales rlly slowly, sticks her hand out to reintroduce herself.
"Meredith Miller.
__Everything I do is to protect myself.__"
He just makes a little bit of a face like go on elaborate on that for me he is so confused and so intrigued and by what he's ASSUMING so far should he be offended.
"You're alot better person than you were back then, people don't give you enough credit for that."
The simultaneous embarrassment of remembering his hardcore bully era and the flattery of a genuine compliment like that being so rare from Ered to anyone.
"And I couldn't trust you that well then as I think I could now. Most of my friends sort of just learn this out themselves slowly but you're not going to unless I spell it out I guess. I'm not a vulnerable or open person, like, at all? Everything I do is to hide I'm flawed. Even *capable* of flaw. I build a reputation, so when I do make little mistakes, or have little quirks, people think I'm doing it ironically, or something, so people just *always* have the best assumptions of me. I abbreviate words over text I don't know how to spell off the top of my head and people think I'm just being cool. I still like how Capri moon tastes and people think I'm just too cool to even care what I have to drink because I'm so above judgement."
"So you're just.. constantly pretending?"
"No, ..sort of."
"I do it so I *can* be myself without it tanking how people veiw me, an actual genuine image of what I am I just work hard to make sure people are *nice* about it. Most of them atleast." Like a safety net built from a good reputation.
"Bigger mistakes though.. people turn on me.
And you were always turned against everyone, dude"
"Sorry.."
"It's fine. We've all got our methods." She understands his behavior comes from a really similar place.
"Nothing I said leaves this room." Pats her hand to his doorway twice as she walks out of it. "See you around."
"..... CAN WE GO BOWLING SATURDAY?"
Ered sort of stops herself mid-way going out the front door. "...Sure!" And is a little surprised he already wants to chill with her

What was Breena's relationship with her siblings-in-law like at the beginning? (especially with Edan, I guess it took a lot for him to trust her after knowing how she treated Neil the first time they met).

Breena (17) and Edan (20)...
...indeed had their problems at first. Breena still had her firey kinda mean attitude and Edan was still judging her for how she treated Neil at first. This ridge between them bothered Breena because she got along fairly well with everyone else.
Bree: Edan hasna a lot of good to say about me, does he?
Neil: What ya mean?
Bree: He's avoidin' me but constantly eyein' me in a warning and threatening manner. I just dinna understand why? What did I do to him?
Neil: Ah... he is just lookin' out for me- us- as in his younger siblings.
Bree: So he's bein' typical protective older brother?
Neil: Pretty much, aye.
Bree: But why? I havena even exchanged a word wi' him. What reason does he have to gi' me the cold shoulder?
Neil: Dinna like the taste of yer own medicine?
Bree: Excuse me?
Neil: Bein' unfriendly to people ye dinna ken, I mean.
Bree: If this is about our first encounter, I already told ye I'm sorry. Did I misjudge ye? Aye. Was I wrong? Aye. I was wrong and I am genuinely sorry. But it's not Edan's place to treat me like this now.
Neil: Well, he kens what ye said to me and how ye treated me when we met and is simply wary of ye. Especially as we're starting to become friends of sorts.
Bree: It's not his business who ye're friends with. It's a matter between you and me. Not him.
Neil: You... you dinna have siblings, do ya?
Bree: I don't. And even if I did, I fail to see where our friendship is of interest to Edan.
Neil: He's just looking out for me. I'm his younger brother and he doesna want me to get hurt by befriending someone who might turn out bad for me.
Bree: I'm bad for ye now?
Neil: That's not what I said. I'm just sayin' that as siblings we all dinna want one of us getting hurt and we're all lookin' out for each other. If I heard someone was yellin' at Ian, Keith or Maisie when they were just bein' nice and then that person suddenly lives with us, aye, I'd be wary too. Edan is this cold to everyone who gets closer to us. I understand it bothers ye but he has his reasons for bein' wary and protective. He'd never forgive himself if one of us got hurt by someone we liked and he kens he could've prevented it. Perhaps ye should have a heart-to-heart conversation wi' him when the situation occurs.
Bree: I dinna just open my heart to people, goldie.
Neil: And that's the first thing ye two have in common. I'm sure ye'll understand why he is that way once ye get to talk about it. And he'll understand why ye yerself were so rude to me at first if ye explain. He doesna hate ya. He's testin' ya.
(Neil turned out to be right)
Breena and Blair (18)...
...quickly got to like each other actually. They were both jealous of the other one in terms of appearance and didn't voice that at first. It did come out of them at one point and they both started endlessly complimenting each other. Blair braids Breena's hair, Breena helps Blair with dying her hair, Blair teaches Breena some crafty skills like basic sowing or embroidery. After Neil, Breena was closest to Blair.
Some years down the line
Blair (putting a pin into Breena's hair): Aaand all done! How are ye? Bree (pregnant at that time): I feel like I'm gonna throw up- Blair: Oh, dear- ye need a basin? Bree: No, no, I'm not actually going to I'm just... Blair: Nervous ye're only minutes away from standing in front of an officiator and exchanging marriage vows wi' the love of yer life? Bree: In summary, aye. Blair: I ken exactly what ye mean. I felt I was going to faint any moment before sealing the oath wi' my wife. But after it all... when the oath was taken, and we were announced as married and got to kiss each other as wives for the first time... there was not an ounce of those nerves present anymore. It's gonna be the same for ye and Neil. I'm certain. Bree: I dinna ken... What if he says no after all? Blair: If he dares say no at the officiator I will kick his arse into space. But he won't. He's deeply in love wi' ya, Bree. He's been airheaded and footed since the first day and he hasna shut up about yer engagement for months. And he's most excited about the bairn. Neil will marry ya. Nothing and no one could keep him from that. Bree: Thanks, Blair. I'm so lucky to gain ye as sister-in-law. Blair: Leave out the "in-law". Such a mouthful. Just sister.
Breena and Ian (14)...
...also learned to get along rather quickly even though she joined in on the playful bullying of Ian (he's used to it at this point). They would've been even closer than Bree is with Blair if they were just closer in age tbh.
Breena and Keith (11)...
...don't have much to do with each other but she helps him with his school work every now and then or keeps an eye on him when everyone else is busy. Breena was never really fond of children but when Keith would come up to her with his five-string or lute and ask her to listen to the tune he learned she began thinking that maybe kids aren't that bad.
Breena and Maisie (8)...
...had a similar development to the one with Keith. Maisie really liked Breena immediately and always found ways to spend time with her, asking her to help in choosing how to dress or asking her to help with the hairstyle, take her to school or pick her up again. If Keith already began to crack Breena with her perception of children, Maisie sold her on definitely wanting at least one kid sooner or later, even if things like this happened
Maisie: Breena?
Bree: Hm?
Maisie: I like ye.
Bree: Aw, I like ye too, Maisie.
Maisie: Willya marry Neil?
Bree: Oh- uh- I-I dinna ken.
Maisie: Wouldya if he asked ye to?
Bree: If Neil asked me to marry him?
Maisie: Mhm!
Bree: Well, aye, I think if he asked me, I would. But I dinna think Neil and I are ready for-
Maisie: NEEEEIIIL!!
Bree: No, no, no, no, no don't-
Maisie: BREENA WANTS TO MARRY YE! SAY YES!
Neil: Sure.
Bree (blushing intensely): NEIL!
This wasn't their official engagement but they kept pretending it was for Maisie.

Some Kimona headcannons for y’all to chew on.
I honestly don’t know if I can really come up with enough ideas for one of these posts but whenever I see someone else do one of these for a ship I like I go fucking bananas so this needs to be done.
• They often watch horror movies together. Kim usually doesn’t react to them that much other than a few snarky comments but Ramona does sometimes need to cling onto Kim’s arm if things get really messed up.
• Sometimes at super gory scenes she tends to stare at Kim like “you really watch this crap??” Partly out of judgement but mostly just so that she doesn’t have to watch the scene.
• Kim is more of a coffee person while Ramona is obviously a tea person. One time when they were bored and feeling silly, they tried to combine their tastes and brewed a concoction they called “cofftea”- a mix of black coffee and herbal tea. It went extremely badly.
• They now have an inside joke that whenver there’s some horrible concoction of booze and god knows what being served at a party one of them goes “hey at least it’s not cofftea!!” And then they both pretend to laugh hysterically in order to mess with people at the party.
• Whenever thanksgiving comes around, they tune into the dog show that happens after the Macy’s parade just to play a game called “how many rats could it take in a fight” where they judge each dog in the show by guessing how many rats it would take to defeat it.
• Gideon (cat) likes Kim a lot but weirdly enough he licks Kim’s hands whenever he can. Sometimes when she’s just resting her hand somewhere, he specifically comes into the room to just lick it. Kim is very annoyed by this but finds it just endearing enough to let him do it.
• Ramona is trying to teach Kim how to skate. Kim is a clutz so it’s not exactly going well
• Ramona and Kim regularly go to smashing rooms together (they’re these places where they give you some smashy weapons like hammers and bats and roll out a bunch of breakable stuff like old tvs for you to smash. They exist irl and are very cool).
• Ramona is very much prone to simulation sickness, i.e. getting really motion sick when playing video games. One time she tried out playing on a gameboy that Neil gave her for her birthday and after 45 minutes of playing she immediately needed to go throw up in the bathroom. Kim sat by her while she hurled into the toilet, patting her on the back occasionally.
• They are both chronic insomniacs, but in different ways. Ramona often just straight up cannot sleep, while Kim falls asleep fairly quickly but repeatedly wakes up in the middle of the night. They both have the same remedy for their insomnia when it happens, going downstairs and drinking some lemon soda. Whenever their insomnia syncs up and they see both of each other downstairs, they say hi and then both pretend that the other doesn’t exist (lovingly).
• they tend to gossip with each other about their exes (especially Scott). Kim tells dumb stories about Scott being a weirdo in high school and Ramona has gallons of scolding hot tea to share.
• Gideon attempted to reassemble the league in order to fight Kim, but none of them really wanted to fight her. Lucas felt bad about beating up a girl, Todd was too busy having his gay awakening to care about Ramona anymore, Roxie was already very good “friends” with Kim so she was an auto no-go, and the twins were just kinda over the whole league thing and were too busy with their music carreer, so the only one who showed up was Matthew. He proceeded to fight Kim in a very similar fashion to how he tried to fight Scott (crashing one of her gigs) but the two ended up having a heart to heart about how high school relationships can suck a lot and can still affect you into adult life. They both came out of it as better people and Matthew just kinda left. He strode into the sunset if you will.
• They nuzzle each other’s noses… a LOT.
I think that’s all I can come up with right now I think. If I do come up with more I’ll make another one of these I suppose. If any of you wanna submit hcs for me to put into a post send an ask please please please please

btw about Neil Gaiman I periodically agree with the 'Neil Gaiman is annoying' stuff bc I feel like both he and Amanda Palmer seem like people who I would go insane stuck in a room with bc we have very different ideas about art and suchlike. and I also do think that the career trajectory he's on lately is cynically redoing his greatest hits and pretending that was the dream all along when it clearly was not. which is at best meh.
having said which
as far as I can tell by far the most common complaint about Neil Gaiman is "Snow, Glass, Apples is problematic/gross/it's got incest and rape and frames the child as the aggressor"
which strikes me as a weird complaint to pull out of a 40 year body of work tbh when that short story is pretty clearly coming from a place of 'how far can I push this'. like you don't have to like the story. I don't really like the story. but it is. a horror story.
like and this is the thing with particularly 90s alt horror right? a lot of the interest is in transgression and sitting in the worst possible perspective and seeing what happens if you pull those strings. like I really like Clive Barker for example but there's a good chunk of his short stories that I'm like I'm not picking up what you're putting down Clive this seems Kinda Off. but that willingness to write some trite or Bad Message horror fiction that doesn't land is imo a side effect of being willing to try writing uncomfortable and unpleasant fiction at all. which is what horror is for, among other things, it's for creating discomfort as a form of catharsis or engagement.
like I am not a huge fan of the type of sex-horror that pops up in a lot of Gaiman's work and other contemporary horror writers - to me I don't find it upsetting or horny it just ends up feeling kind of edgy and tryhard - but I'm also a bit like. it does seem like a lot of people's beef with Neil Gaiman is that In The 90s He Was A Horror Writer
and this approach to Problematic Horror in Snow, Glass, Apples I find kind of microcosmic of how The Discourse often approaches art in this kind of 1:1 way. if you write a story which seems to line up with rape apologia it can only be because you agree with it. if you write a story about transphobia you're a transphobe. if you write a story that makes me genuinely uncomfortable you're attacking me.
but artwork, especially art like horror that's not necessarily trying to provoke enjoyment as its main response, is necessarily hit and miss. and if what you're shooting for is discomfort then whether it works, falls flat or goes too far incredibly depends on your audience. and making good art - as in art that makes its audience think, art that opens the audience up to discomfort and catharsis and sticks with them and changes them - requires the space to experiment and tbh the space to fuck up. like they aren't all going to be winners and they certainly aren't all going to work for you as a singular audience.
personally I don't see the appeal of Snow, Glass, Apples, less cause it's nasty and more cause it's hack. ooh an edgy monstrous version of a fairy tale where there's lots of rape and cannibalism? you're soooo original Neil. but like. that's fine. I don't really vibe with like 70% of Neil Gaiman stuff I've read but I still like Neil Gaiman because the stuff that works for me really works for me.
idk I think there's a lot of folk on this website who shouldn't interact with horror cause they clearly aren't interested in being horrified. that's not everyone who dislikes Snow, Glass, Apples, but it's a real undercurrent to a lot of the criticism and tbh this kinda vibe is shit for art. making standout art What Is Good also requires being ready to make art which stands out for the wrong reasons. sometimes they'll be the same art to different people.
#red said#not to Cancel Culture this but isabelle fall springs to mind in a lot of how folks talk about stuff like this#like she wrote a transgressive piece exploring her own negative feelings about transness and her anger around a transphobic trope#and she made something which i found really resonant and interesting#and she got torn apart for it because it Might From Some Angles Agree With Transphobia#and I'm not making a direct comparison. because i think attack helicopter is a really GOOD story and i think SGA is gratuitous and hack#but that's the thing right? transgression and discomfort and speaking about unpleasant things in an openended way are KEY#to making art that engages directly with your own pains and angers and discomforts#and that's hard to mediate tbh. but it's also very necessary.#i think as well thinking about Gaiman this is also a thought I've often had about Amanda Palmer#who over the years has written a lot of songs about things i find genuinely uncomfortable or offensive.#and i can engage with 'it's fucked up to tell your ex they transed their gender At You' or 'your partner's suicide is not about you' bc yeah#but#you can't celebrate someone for making confessional music then get mad because you don't like everything they confess#if you only take about your socially acceptable thoughts it's not really confessional is it?#if you only talk about discomforting things that people are comfortable hearing about its not really discomforting#and you can only really discern what's Good Transgressive and what's Damaging Transgressive through doing i think#so if you want challenging art you are going to have to get some art which challenges you and you go hmm no i still disagree#is what i think#so yeah you can hate the artwork but when an artist is specifically setting out to make challenging art it's weird to hate them#for making 50 pieces of art you like and 1 you hate
