Listen, Polin has been my Roman Empire for months now, but this fandom is WILDIN’.
Chunks of this fandom who claim to be Polin fans seem to hate either Colin or Penelope and I’m just like… why are you here, then, if you refuse to empathize or even TRY to understand either critical half of the pairing?
“Colin can’t see what’s in front of him and he insulted her in front of his peers!! GROVEL; I hope Pen moves onto Debling!!!”
First of all, you’re not a Polin fan if you hate Colin so much you want her to move on to someone else. Second of all: yeah, no. Yes,Colin put his foot in his mouth, arguably in a big way because of status, but plenty of people in real life have experienced saying something that came off poorly to a group of people. Everything we know about Colin’s character tells us he is going to feel horrible about it; he’ll apologize, MEAN IT, and she’ll forgive him. She has her own apologies to make.
Believe it or, it is NORMAL for people to grow into romantic feelings slowly. Stop punishing Colin for discovering who he is by experiencing his own character arc with his own mistakes. He’s allowed to have flaws; he’s allowed to work through his insecurities!
Tbh, most of the criticisms I see of Colin are pretty surface-level and petty, so I don’t give them much real estate in my brain because they’re just… bad, lol.
On the flip side -
“Penelope feels entitled to Colin’s feelings; she’s selfish and the fucking worst!!”
S3 Penelope: *overhears Colin say he would never court her; BELIEVES him - decides she’s going to stop wasting her time, move on, and look for a serious suitor and marriage prospect a) as is expected of her in this era and b) so that she has security, especially considering her family’s dire financial straits.*
“Oh my GOD, this is so anti-Polin, how could she POSSIBLY even THINK about accepting a proposal from anyone but Colin?! GTFO”
SIGH, 1) we have NO IDEA how this plot line is going to pan out: Lord Debling may or may not be serious about her, we don’t know what that even looks like, or for how long. The show synopsis historically likes to play with the fandom expectations a lot. He may possibly propose… and if he does, it would clearly exist as a sort of parallel to S1…. but 2) GOD FORBID Penelope entertain the idea, despite very real fears and evidence that would lead her thinking it would likely be her ONLY proposal… or that even if Colin proposed post heavy-petting session, how on EARTH could she think that he would be doing it out of honor-bound obligation and not love. 🙄 Her potentially considering a proposal isn’t anti-Polin; it’s a realistic response and consideration to two (and likely an additional half) seasons worth of external and internal stressors that are tying into her character development.
Penelope’s heart is fragile for a multitude of reasons due to her home life, her prior experiences with Colin and Eloise AND the rest of the ton - it’s incredibly frustrating for people to ignore why she would potentially not believe Colin even if he DID confess / give her a marriage proposal, just like it’s frustrating when people don’t try to understand why Colin might struggle with his own feelings.
Some of y’all really don’t understand people like Penelope who have been told their entire lives that they are not enough, are terrified of putting themselves out there by being emotionally vulnerable and potentially rejected for the fundamental aspects of who they are… even though some of y’all claim to identify with Colin when he has his OWN STRUGGLES WITH SOME OF THESE SAME FEARS. And it’s almost worse because Pen is painfully SHY: You don’t just magically become confident one day because you decided to be; it is a constant battle against negativity that eventually becomes heavily internalized… it takes years of work unlearn those thought patterns, especially when you’re surrounded by people insulting and rejecting your to your face (her family) or behind your back (the way the ton talks about her family… it’s likely Pen heard gossip about herself, whether individually or as an extension of her family PLENTY)… with an added dose of also being ignored when not actively insulted.
It would not shock me at ALL if Penelope genuinely considers a Debling proposal. All of Colin’s actions in S1 and S2 have ultimately taught her that he is never going to return her feelings; she is likely going to be pretty oblivious to his own romantic realizations this season because why would she look for or entertain those hopes again? Some of y’all complain that she is selfish about Colin’s romantic feelings (which lol, I disagree strongly, but sure hypothetically, I’ll allow it) … so then when she tries to move on by listening to him and his actions she’s suddenly… punishing him and undeserving of him?? When she would have every reason to be skeptical of these feelings coming from seemingly nowhere when he starts of the season trying to find her a husband? NAH fam, she’s doing what anyone with any sense of emotional self-preservation would do: move on and try to be content, even if she knows she’ll always love Colin in her heart.
AND even if Penelope develops potentially fond feelings for Debling… do you really think it’s unrealistic for a 19 year old young woman who has done nothing but pine over a man who is oblivious to it (or worse, finds a romantic relationship with you laughable… in her eyes), who has not had ANYONE be romantically interested her… to maybe get a little fluttery around someone who is reasonably nice looking and shows her genuine interest right off the bat? Spoiler Alert: that is probably exactly what would happen because it’s a heady feeling!!!
This entire plotline is either a parallel to the Marina situation, or a reference to the book line that basically has Colin going “Oh shit, what if I had never realized Pen is the love of my life?? What if someone else had seen how amazing she was and snatched her up??” - Maybe it’s even both! Deep breath: it’s a just plot device for Polin to realize they’re made for each other.
Colin and Pen are going to be on their own journeys this season that fly in the face of what the other is going through. Colin is grappling with newfound romantic feelings for Penelope (while likely struggling to trust them because he thought he loved Marina but lol no he didn’t, so how is he supposed to know???) while also battling against former (and potentially current) impulsive actions… and Penelope is fighting for her LIFE trying to bury her feelings and move on because she’s trying to protect her heart because Colin literally said out loud he’d never want her AND she’s likely thinking of her security. They are both grappling with internal conflicts that oppose the other and THAT is what is going to make the tension and development so good… and that’s without even addressing all the LW stuff that needs to get worked through!
I need y’all to flex that empathy muscle a little and realize that this isn’t about fucking fan-service, or you projecting your own experiences onto these characters (or even the weird self-insert “I am/want to be this character” or “I want to fuck this character”) - you can relate to these characters but ultimately it’s about the STORY - it’s about exploring these characters realistically in how they would react to their own traumas and lived experiences, and how what they think they want/need comes into conflicts with their counterparts.
This is a romantic DRAMA, and these characters are going to have their ups and downs… and it’s a Shondaland drama for better or worse, so you KNOW it’s going to get messy (good lord just look at S2 and how far that “love” triangle went… I’m hopeful for the new show runner because she’s a fan).
Polin will be canon because they unreservedly CHOOSE the other and it will be glorious, so everybody chill the fuck out and stop shitting on my imperfect, emotionally fragile yet beautifully relatable, evolving lovers. They are the BEST fucking ship, but most of this fandom doesn’t deserve them tbh. They’re both messes in their own ways, and honestly? If they were real, neither Colin nor Penelope would tolerate this slander y’all are throwing at the other.
LEAVE COLIN AND PENELOPE ALONE AND LET THEM MUDDLE THEIR WAY TO TRUE LOVE. 🤬

I’m 5’3 with a hourglass build but I’m always a little self conscious about my chest bc it seems to draw a lot of attention, sometimes unwanted. Other than that, I’m pretty confident though most would say I’m pretty quiet unless I’m totally warmed up to someone. I tend to be very stubborn and sometimes say mean things when I’m angry, but I always try to keep a cool head as much as I can. I have auburn hair and really dark eyes. Freckles and dimples that everyone seems to love when they notice. It usually surprises people bc I have really bad resting bitch face 😭. Some people I know have gone so long without realizing I have dimples tbh.
I love to read!!! Like totally obsessed. I also know way too much about dogs but I love all animals in general. The slight touch aversion might have to do with his father not having been very affectionate and how he used to get into fist fights as a kid, right? So there'll always be an instinctive flight/fight response to it, when it comes unexpectedly and/or from a stranger, as in the video someone linked. But it really seems like a knee jerk reaction instead of a concious decision most of the time, because we've seen the man having no care for personal space around Angela and Bono, just to name two examples (F1 related, obviously, private friends and his family are an entirely different thing too) and he handles and often enough initiates casual touches as well as everyone else woul and does, as long as they're on his terms, so to speak. So it's not like he makes a point of not giving hugs or clasping shoulders, it's nothing drastic, but there is something deeply rooted that shows itself from time to time when he's not actively controlling it? I think that's what you were saying too, or how I understood it.
But then that's what I like so much about George walking behind him and resting his hand on the neck (the neck! Out of all places. Can we talk about this?), it's not like Lewis was looking, not likely that he would've seen, yet he doesn't flinch away. I've never thought about this before, but that means much on a subconcious level. Of course George is his teammate, but then that doesn't have to mean anything, does it? Him and Nico didn't let each other casually close like this at the end even though they had obviously been super comfortable around each other for years on end before that. I don't think Lewis actively thinks about trusting George tbh, I don't even think he'd interpret simple touches like this as signs of trust (I wouldn't have either, if I hadn't been prompted to really think about them as such) but given his struggles that you mentioned and that can occasionally shine through... huh. And that's just his "pov", there's another one too.
George comes across as a little shy and hesitant sometimes (when it comes to Lewis, that is), at least in my opinion. He doesn't have any aversion to touch, but he is very socially aware of himself, if you could call it that and so I think he would be careful about giving in to a simple urge, like reaching out for Lewis like this. He wouldn't be actively thinking about it if it was, say, Alex, but with Lewis you can always tell that he wants to do things right. (Or that's what I'm seeing). And so seeing him very confidently doing this - without any apparent reason or social clue from Lewis, I don't think they were even talking - means a lot too. Because in that instance he was past the point of being too hesitant. I think for George to just do what he feels like doing might be a bigger deal than it is for people who are less self-aware.
And all of this might sound silly because it's such a trivial little thing, but - is it, really? Sorry for spaming you like this, this has gotten much too long. Sorry! I don't know if you even like asks that are more like meta than actual questions, but I enjoyed your latest post about this so much, because - as you can see - it got me thinking! :D And I like your thoughts on this.
The only thing I generally object to here is separating Bono and Angela as “entirely different” from his friends and family.
I think that understates their relationship heavily. Lewis spends more time with those two than his family. He spends more time with Angela than his friends, Bono spends hours in his ear each week. They are very very much his family.
I’d also say I didn’t say lewis’ aversion to that stranger wasn’t instinctual, it very much is, I act like that if someone touches me. But where I focused was how Lewis touches his grid family vs others. He’s polite and such with the likes of Ferrari and people he just doesn’t know that well, but it’s different. It’s different to how he seeks George out. Lewis distances himself from the grid to avoid HAVING to avoid these contacts, you have to step one step back for the full picture

Your Kharlan-centric reblogs have given me renewed feels about him, too! Is there really no Kharlan/Sam fanfiction out there? I have a need. Tbh it doesn't even need to feature them as a ship, I just want to know more about their relationship before Atropatene.
Oh there absolutely should be Kharlan/Saam fics. I don't think I've ever seen a fic with that ship. I don't ship them romantically... yet, but I'm pretty sure I could be convinced to ship it. I want!! To know!! More about them!!
First of all I wonder if they served under Osroes too, or if they were new appointments by Andragoras. I can't see Andragoras picking anyone who he isn't 100% sure would be loyal to him but maybe Kharlan faked it well enough... Do they bond over the memories of the past, memories of days before the fire? Or do they just not talk about it?
Kharlan must've been wanting Saam on his side since a long time ago, but couldn't tell him or recruit him. Maybe he knew Saam wouldn't approve of facilitating the Lusitanian invasion. Maybe he knew Saam had settled into being a marzban under Andragoras somewhat. But whatever the case, I cannot deny that there's this sense of longing he had towards Saam that... he's never displayed to any other marzban, to my memory. He couldn't care less what happened to the rest of them at Atropatene. But Saam? Saam he cared about. Wanted on his side. The two must've been very close, or shared a special bond over anybody else. Or maybe they drifted apart, but Kharlan just... yearned. From a distance. But he can still long even if they're close— Kharlan's shouldering a heavy secret all alone, after all. How many times has he wished he could confide in Saam, only to shy away last-second because he's afraid of potential rejection, from someone he admires and maybe has steadily depended upon?
I don't quite know how to put this into words but... I feel like Saam was a steady, fixed, reliable and gentle existence in Kharlan's life. Kharlan who surely must feel isolated, bearing a burden he can tell no one. Saam must've been a soothing presence that made it somewhat lighter even if he wasn't in the know.
Sorry for the thought vomit, it seems I have more thoughts about them than I previously knew 😅

What are your thoughts of Sebastian and Evie as a couple? before reading it I really wondered how he was gonna fall for her, it was a pleasent surprise, I adored them together
Oh, they're one of my favorite romance couples! Such a great love story, and imo probably the definitive rake/wallflower romance of the moment. It's just so well done. He's such an asshole. She's a good girl but she's not too sweet, and certainly not holier than thou. That is one thing I love about Evie. She's really not super moralistic. Even by going to Sebastian, she's basically putting her own issues ahead of the fact that he kidnapped her best friend, and tbh? Evie's issues are so bad that it makes sense, but it's a tough call and she makes it at the very beginning. Evie judges Sebastian for being an asshole, but he is legitimately very much an asshole... and she gets her life from fucking him anyway sooo.
I think that they work so well because Evie never seems to be like... pathetic. She's totally someone I bought entrancing him when we read it from his perspective. Like, yeah, she was shy, she had a speech impediment (which lessened as she got more confident, but never fully went away, which I liked), but she didn't totally lack confidence, and the more Sebastian uplifted her the more confident she became. She was also clearly super hot (like this voluptuous redhead) and she clearly was naturally a super sexual person, too. Like. That's one thing I think a lot of people miss when they try to portray this book as a typical rake/wallflower romance. Rake/wallflower is a classic trope and I love it, but if you put it up like this plain Jane who just looks at herself and the mirror and goes "ho hum, how could anyone like poor me" and then lays there and gasps while he goes to town is going to capture the heart of this dissolute rake for the rest of his life... I don't buy it.
Evie is great. Like, Sebastian is an awesome hero, but Evie is an equally fabulous heroine. She stands up to him and calls him out from day one (there's a reason why he calls her a judgmental bitch within the first few chapters lol) and once he's introduced her to sex... Like, she's got principles, she's not gonna just let him do whatever he wants, but she's obviously a naturally carnal person? Like, the scene where he's recovering from his gunshot wound and she's like "you're gonna lose that bet" and hops on top while he's like OH NO I COULDN'T POSSIBLY is.... fabulous. And she's also quite funny in a quiet way, on top of being a sweet person. So it totally makes sense that Evie would get his attention and keep it.
I also love that they stay super horny well into their later years. The scene in one of the Ravenels books (I think it was Devil in Spring?) where he finds her with her hair in a braid and is like "oh look it's a wanton maid and I'm the gross master of the house this is great for me"... gold.

Mine was so tense i had a presentation and I was just dying on the inside. I hate presentations they are so stressful to me I literally ran out when I was done luckily, we were allowed to leave right after our presentations. I took a long shower and had yummy lunch.

I’m glad to hear that! I’m not really used to talking a lot so I always get nervous whenever that happens haha. And I’m happy you liked the little snippet of the request too! Tbh I’m a little worried since it turned out a little rough I suppose but I hope it’s gonna be alright. I did a small research about the Korean fox spirits and got a bit carried away since the way they’re described really fits the aesthetic I like. But I couldn’t resist making it a little soft as well. Now I just need to go over again and edit it a little but I think I should be able to post it soon?
Also, yes!! He really does seem that way but he’s so sweet and shy T-T It’s so fascinating to me to watch interviews with him because of it, the characters he usually plays are so confident and cold and he’s so cute and talks so calmly.

For my favorite characters, in Alice in Borderland I really liked Chishiya and Niragi – which is funny because Niragi traumatized me so much lmao, I literally got panic attacks after seeing one of the episodes. I even read the manga it was based on and then I really started liking him as a character, and Chishiya makes me cry if I think about him too long lol. Oh, and Mira was really cool too! In AHS I loved Michael (from Apocalypse), Cordelia (from Coven) and Sally and the Countess (from Hotel). My favorite seasons are probably those three too, as well as the first one. Headcanons for the the guys introducing their S/O to the rest of the gang
I was soooo happy to get this so close to Valentine’s Day! Hope you like how these scenarios play out, and thanks so much for the Ask. ♥

KUWABARA
Kuwabara told his friends about you quite literally within 24 hours of meeting you, so they already know a ton about you.
He’s also been telling his friends how amazing you are for months, so you have a lot to live up to. (*gulp*)
When he introduces you at last, he absolutely gushes.
He’s so proud to call you his S/O, he basically babbles a glowing introduction until he’s blue in the face, pushing you out toward his friends so they can see you.
He can’t wait to show you off and for them to see how amazing you are!
You’re nervous at first, but those feelings quickly fade.
Kuwabara has gushed about his friends to you (this boy is so proud of all of his friends even Hiei), so you already know a ton about them, too!
Actually, you feel like you already know Yusuke and the others, and they feel like they already know you, too.
It makes getting along with them really easy, all thanks to Kuwabara’s inability to play it cool about how much he loves you/his friends.
(Even Hiei seems OK, despite what Kuwabara’s said about his bad attitude; you just think he’s shy and resolve to be kind to him no matter what.)

KURAMA
Unsurprisingly, Kurama is not nearly as gushy or effusive as Kuwabara.
No, Kurama is way more subtle about how he introduces you.
For one thing, he doesn’t gush about you when you’re not around.
He’s mentioned you to his friends, but he’s generally quite private about his relationships.
They know who you are and some basic facts about your life, but you’re pretty mysterious overall.
The fact that he’s introducing you to his friend group is proof that he’s serious about you, tbh. You never would’ve met them if you weren’t important.
Kurama gently introduces you to everyone at a social event (one he chose quite carefully for an atmosphere he thinks will put you at ease).
He doesn't babysit you, introducing you to everyone and then letting you make friends as you see fit.
Kurama watches from afar, shooting you smiles from across the room whenever you catch his eye.
He’ll intervene if you seem uncomfortable, but otherwise he trusts you to handle yourself, confident you’ll make a good impression. He’s with you for a reason, after all.
HIEI

Kuwabara starts off a little reluctant/suspicious (he’s not sure what to make of someone Hiei would date) but soon he sees you’re awesome and warms up to you.
They all eagerly welcome you into the fold and ask you lots of questions.
Eventually Hiei gets tired of it and basically drags you away while you wave over your shoulder, saying you’ll see them soon (you hope).
You like all of Hiei’s friends and they like you a lot in return.
Hiei isn’t sure if he likes how well you get along with everyone, though.
Is he going to have to share you with them now, or…?
YUSUKE
Elephant in the room: Yukimura Keiko
Yusuke and Keiko were super serious when they dated, but they didn’t work out as romantic partners and instead remain good friends, which suits them much better.
So when Yusuke meets you and realizes he’s interested, he’s… well, he’s not sure what he’s doing, TBH.
The pair of you start off as friends (because that’s how he started off with Keiko and he doesn’t know how else to go about dating anyone).
This means that when Yusuke introduces you to his friend group for the first time, he introduces you as a friend, and as a friend only.
But Keiko is a smart lady, and she takes one look at the way you and Yusuke bicker and banter, and she knows.
She can see the way you look at Yusuke, and she sees how he looks at you, and Keiko spent enough time pining after Yusuke to recognize someone else pining after him when she sees it.
She takes great pains to make you feel welcome, making sure you don’t feel weird about hanging out with Yusuke’s ex in the room.
And then in private, she absolutely lays into Yusuke for not being more forthright with you about his feelings.
“We danced around each other for years, and look where it got us!” Keiko tells him as he stares at his feet, pouting. “You need to be honest! Confess how you feel, and soon!”
Keiko is the smartest person Yusuke knows (aside from maybe Kurama), so while it takes him a while to work up the courage, he eventually comes around and takes her advice to confess.
Basically, the act of Yusuke introducing you to his friends is what brought the two of you together as a couple, and Keiko remains your biggest advocate in your relationship with Yusuke.

“Well, I get more likes than you,” he finally resolves, his words significantly weaker than they’d been previously. When you raise an eyebrow at him, he shrugs. “I do!”
“No, you don’t.” Disliking the way he seems cocky now, you shuffle up the sofa. The cushions are firm and slightly uncomfortable, but that’s what you get when you’re crammed inside a trailer on a film set. You’re just glad Tom had suggested you spend your lunch break together in his trailer rather than yours -- his, at least, has a working lock on the door and a functioning mini-fridge. “Give me that.”
He passes you his phone, and you fall to a stop when you’re sitting right beside him, your thighs now pressing together. The timing’s never quite been right, but as your gaze shifts between his handsome, seductive grin and his phone, you have a feeling that things may change sooner than you’d imagined.
“How about we settle this, once and for all,” Tom suggests, his words slow as he thinks. His eyebrows pull together as he picks his phone up and presses the small plus button at the bottom of the app, creating a new post. “We have a little competition, right here, right now. Whoever wins gets supreme bragging rights.”
“And what exactly do you have in mind?”
Tom’s tongue slips across his lower lip, wettening it torturously slowly and his firm gaze settles on your mouth for a quick moment, his lips pulling into a slow smirk as he takes in the way you fluster beneath his gaze. He knows exactly what he’s doing.
“We both post something, together, at the same time. Whoever gets to a million likes first, wins,” he explains.

Tom’s quiet for a moment, and the silence that envelopes you is charged with the past few weeks of lingering touches, suggestive stares, and building sexual tension. In sync, you press post, watching as Tom does the same. You watch as it takes a moment to load, and then it pops up into the top of your feed. You grin as you refresh, and you see Tom’s post slip up. You can’t help but sigh wistfully as your eyes take in his photo.
