ICYMI: There are so many Japanese qls airing weekly, so I’m going to start posting this little round up at the end of each week. Most of these shows are on Gaga and I highly recommend watching!

Chaser Game W

We've reached the stage with this one where I'm just gonna say we should keep watching for the ratings and enjoy the pretty gifs.

Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna 2

I got to watch episodes 5-8 of the new season this week, and I promptly lost my mind over how good this show is. It somehow got even better between seasons; the creators have some things to say about the experiences of women under heterosexual patriarchy. I already wrote about Kasuga's family trauma storyline and how much it meant to me, but these episodes also gave us Nomoto's ongoing queer awakening and journey to define her sexuality, the introduction of a new queer bestie in Yako, a better understanding of Nagumo and the careful and steady deepening of her relationship with the gals, a new confidant for Kasgua in Fujita, and Nomoto and Kasuga inching ever closer to defining what they are to each other. The world of the show and the support network around our leads continues to expand, and I am loving every moment. This drama is excellent and I cannot implore you enough to go to @furritsubs and catch up.

My Strawberry Film

Kicking off the last Drama Shower show of the season! This is a high school story featuring a classic trio—the Pining Gay, the Chaos Bisexual, and the Budding Lesbian. Obviously, I love them. I like the mood of this one—it's quite a tonal shift from the last show in this series—and the color grading is blue, blue, blue. And there's a mystery afoot as they try to track down the beautiful girl captured on film. Looking forward to more!

Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka

I continue to love this show, though I am not entirely sure how I feel about the turn things took with Mizuki this week. I did not really want this to go the full blown love triangle route; I am more interested in a version of this story where Sakae and Soga try to figure out these adult complications from the foundation of being in a relationship, not with the constant interference of a third party. So few dramas are willing to get the couple together early and let them face things together rather than constantly playing the will they, won't they game, and I was hoping Sukidoya was going to be one of them. That said, I like that Mizuki is sticking around in the story because he's an interesting character, and I like the conflict with Soga's job (we have a preponderance of Japanese shows about unreasonable work conditions airing atm) and the temporary nature of his time in Osaka. That he's worried about eventually leaving tells you all you need to know about how much he likes and respects Sakae. If he felt casual about him he would not be worried about complications that far down the timeline. Let's see where they take this love triangle thing next week; I'm hoping it will be brief.

Perfect Propose

Great episode this week, and I love the way they continue to deepen the backstory for these two. Hiro being the first person to need Kai rather than pity him makes so much sense for their dynamic and why Kai would be so attached to him. And of course, when Kai returns the situation is the same; Hiro definitely still needs him. I love that they took a source of shame for Hiro and turned it into a reason why he and Kai are so compatible. Kai wants to take care of him—and he's not the only one! Loved seeing Hiro's coworkers express concern for his well-being and recognize how this job is grinding him down and breaking his spirit. It was so validating to hear from another high performer that the job is miserable and he should quit. It has nothing to do with failure; as Kaneko said, it's about seeking the life he truly wants. He sees Hiro's talent and knows he will not be able to flourish in this hellish work environment, and I thought it was so kind and compassionate of him to try to help Hiro see that. Also shoutout to Hiyori for sitting her ass back down and missing the last train when she realized prime gossip was about to arrive to her table, she's just like me fr.

Ossan's Love Returns

We are clearly in the drama spiral for the season now, and this show seems to be coming for my beloved Kurosawa. Thanks, I hate it! But the show found its humor again this week even as the sad plotlines for the side characters continued, and I was very happy to see it back in top form. I loved this story with Maki and Haruta caring for Goro for the week, and how it affirmed for them that they are actually not interested in having children. I told @bengiyo and @twig-tea when we saw last week's preview that Maki seemed like the type who wouldn't like children, and I was glad to see that affirmed by the show, and crucially, that he didn't change his mind via the power of Goro's cuteness. Not all people want to be parents, and it's so nice and refreshing to see a loving couple decide they just want to focus on each other, and that you can like kids and spend time with them without needing to have one of your own. I loved, too, that we got some focus on Chizu's struggles as a single mom, and her family rallied around her and made it clear she has support. Takegawa's sudden not-at-all-selfishly-motivated interest in polyamory was hilarious, as was Chief's journey to figure out what was causing his stress—until it wasn't, of course. I was glad Chuoko was with him when he got the news. And I am really hoping that rooftop kiss was Kiku's goodbye, and we will be seeing him move on from Izumi soon.

Bonus: Kimi no Koto Dake Mite Itai

Shoutout to @my-rose-tinted-glasses for giffing this show and reminding me I still hadn't seen it! It was not accessible to me back when it came out and it fell off my radar for awhile. Lying to Atsumu felt wrong. It wasn’t that you’d never lied to him before. Growing up with him, you lied to him plenty. But never something to this magnitude. Never about something like this.

And you’d never been so angry at him for an argument before. You knew that the argument would go away, at least on his side, if you were to confess that Osamu and yourself never actually were going out. That Atsumu would no longer have something to be upset with you about because you hadn’t snuck around behind his back.

You, however, would still be angry that Atsumu had been sneaking around behind your back with Mizuki. Something that Atsumu had yet to apologize for. And as long as he refused to apologize to you, you wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of giving him an apology either.

Call it stubbornness or call it pride. It didn’t matter. You’d learned it from him anyways.

Atsumu, however, happened to have the same ideas about apologizing. He had nothing to apologize for. Not that you knew that.

In his mind you’d be angry he lied about dating Mizuki but truly he didn’t know what else he was supposed to have done when getting bombarded with the news that not only were you going behind his back to date someone, but his own brother too.

It was an awful feeling that only his best friend could currently understand. Mizuki, who was trying her hardest to convince him that the argument could go away in part if he’d just confessed to you what his lie truly was. If he confessed to you his reasons for lying as well.

That conversation had also not gone well. It had ended in Mizuki storming out, calling him an “ignorant stubborn bastard” as she slammed the door shut.

Atsumu wasn’t sure if it was his heart or his pride that was hurt, both sitting painfully in his chest as he waited for you to reach out first. It didn’t matter that the first hurtful words of the date from two nights ago had come from him. To him, you’d started that argument, that problem. To him, you had to apologize first.

It wasn’t a reasonable want on either side. Both of you in the wrong and refusing to admit your own faults. It was pride that kept you from reaching out and pride that kept Atsumu from answering Osamu’s texts about you.

Pride. Something both you and Atsumu had always competed against each other with, claims that it made you try harder and work more. Pride that usually was something you both revered in the other. Something that, now, was keeping the connections between Atsumu and you radio silent.

Pride. Refusal to apologize first. Refusal to admit wrongdoing before the other. Your worst enemy.

For Ena and Mizuki, it looks like the other two dont like touch, they tense up immediately when they receive it, meanwhile for Kanade and Mafuyu, it gives them such strong feelings that it takes a while to get used to.

So, gradually, they start to ask for touch in their own way.

Kanade stares at everyone's hands, wishing they would get the hint and hold hers, starts leaning on them when she's tired, like when she laid her head on Ena's lap and when Ena started petting her, Kanade almost cried (/pos).

3 Ships You Like:

Luca and Vincenzo. They're my rare pair hell ship and I'll keep it afloat singlehandedly if I have to. Luckily I don't, because there's two of us holding up the fort on Ao3, and @ristique-xy and I are basically feeding each other at this point.

For those of you who haven't seen it, Vincenzo is a Korean drama from 2021. Vincenzo is the main character and Luca has like 5-10 minutes of screen time in the entire series. Nothing can convince me that they're not murderous lovers for life.

Yoh and Mizuki from My Personal Weatherman. I watched it, moved on, and then was reminded of it after a certain picture and discussion with @candidamay, which made me go back and rewatched MPW and now I'm trying to write a fic for them. It is resisting me but I shall employ stubbornness and persevere.

Kinnporsche. Again, I watched the show when it came out and moved on. Now incredible fanfics (go read Bad Bet by @luckydragon10 and The Power In The Taking by @iffervescent. Both are excellent and very NSFW - proceed with caution and heed the tags) and tumblr in general are slowly making me slide down the slippery slope into the fandom. Can't say I'm putting up any resistance. The Kinnporsche plotbunnies are breeding in my already overpopulated head.

First Ship Ever:

My first ship must be something like 15+ years ago, so I really don't remember. Also, I don't think I've ever been big on exclusively shipping one pair of characters, so OTPs aren't really my thing. I tend to pick one favourite character and then ship them with pretty much any other character depending on what dynamic I want in the moment. I still do, but now I've started entertaining the idea of just throwing them all together in one big poly relationship.

Rui Kamishiro

Rui finds your flustered expression and actions amusing. He had no idea how simple it would be to make you lose your cool.

The first time it happened, he was barley doing anything. All he did was take your hand in the Kamiyama halls, and didn’t realize how red you were until the two of you arrived at the destination. Rui noticed how fixed your eyes were on his hand on yours and pieced it together form there.

“I didn’t even know that shade of red existed, isn’t that interesting. And are you breathing ok?”

You did everything you could to keep your eyes off of Rui’s face, knowing that would only make you more flustered. His voice alone was doing that! It felt embarrassing standing there trying your best to muster up words, all while Rui stood there holding back chuckles.

After this incident, Rui would always make an attempt at flustering you whenever he saw you, and it always worked. Sometimes he even felt bad! How can someone get so red and shaky from a kiss on the cheek? Or a hand on the shoulder? So while on one hand he might have felt slightly bad, but on the other he found it interesting and amusing.

Rui won’t publicly humiliate you with your weakness however. If you two are in a group setting with close friends such as Tsukasa & Mizuki, he might slightly make you flustered. But in a larger group or with people less known he will refrain from it.

You can’t stand the grip Rui has on you, but you don’t mind as long as it’s him.

Tsukasa Tenma

Tsukasa is oblivious at first. He thought that you were always just so warm and always had a red face in situations, it took a ridiculous amount of time for him to realize why you were exactly like that.

You always had a struggle for words around Tsukasa when he was being ever so slightly affectionate. You’d feel your face heat up and lose your train of thought over almost anything this guy does. And what does he say?

“Oh (Name)! Are you feeling alright, you’re so red?!”

Tsukasa would make a big deal out of it… not to embarrass you or because he knows you’re flustered, but because he’s just so oblivious. But do you wanna tell him the real reason? No! Cause he’d somehow find a way to make your flustered state worse.

Just the way he calls you over in a public setting or how soft-spoken he is with you in private makes you so red. It feels like you’re about to burst in those situations. And it was when Tsukasa was being gentle and quiet with you that he realized why you’re always so red.

“Wait, (Name), don’t tell me you’ve been flustered this whole time! And you never told me?”

When you finally confess that yes, that is the case, Tsukasa’s first question is if you’re ok with him flustering you intentionally. Even if you can’t control it- he worries about making you feel embarrassed and doesn’t want you to get that idea.

Tsukasa is sweet about it, you’re grateful for such a good boyfriend. Even if you can’t keep your cool around him.

Mizuki Akiyama

You and Mizuki have a weekly date where you share something about yourselves to the other, and learn more about it and how it can positively affect your relationship. It was a cute idea brought up by Mizuki when you two first started going out- and was a great way to get to know each other better.

On one of these dates, you confessed how easy it is for you to get flustered. To which Mizuki just says ;

“I’ve known… it’s pretty obvious (Name), I just didn’t wanna say anything incase you were ashamed.”

Was it really that obvious? You were glad Mizuki didn’t point it out actually, otherwise you would have probably been worse. However now that you have admitted? They will tease you a lot about it.

On a regular day, Mizuki will just give you a few compliments to see you blush. But on one of Mizuki’s good days, they’re all over you. Always giving you compliments, taking your hand- hell. One time Mizuki even fed you during lunch. It was embarrassing, but a somewhat sweet moment.

It’s a good thing Mizuki also gets flustered, otherwise you’d have no way to get back at them.

Akito Shinonome

Akito hates how easily flustered you are. Not because he’s embarrassed of you- oh no definitely not. But because he is just as easily flustered. Will he admit this? Absolutely not. Never in a million years will you catch him admitting to this.

The thing with Akito is that he’ll get flustered when he sees how much of an effect he has on you. He could be doing something so minor like leaning on you and he’ll catch you going red. All he can think is this is because of him, how you feel about him.

You might get easily flustered in general, but with him it’s so much more. Although he gets just as flustered- Akito will still be cocky about this. He’ll tease and tease when you two are alone, you can’t catch a break.

If by some chance you catch Akito red faced, you will never let him live it down. You can finally get back at him. He’ll bury himself into the crook of your neck and say ;

“Just please don’t tell the others- I swear I’ll stop teasing you if you don’t tell them.”

It’s funny to you. After his secret is finally revealed, Akito is much nicer. But it feels better to know both of you are deep down a flustered mess for each other.

Somehow the situation makes Akito softer as well. Now he wouldn’t be afraid to cling onto you or be the little spoon. In fact- he’s not even embarrassed to ask like he was before. You’ll gladly let Akito cling onto you or be the big spoon, he feels like a gigantic teddy bear like this.

It’s nice to be yourselves with each other, and having no embarrassment of your flusteredness.

Depending on the au, yeah! Obviously aus where personalities are tweaked a bit would lead to changes (Dazzling Light, Hidden Circus, etc) as would ones with drastically different settings (White Day/Fantasy, Anni/Lily), I could probably think of agere stuff for almost any au and that's concerning-

Regressor Torpe and CG Danchou headcanons!

♪ Torpe regresses relatively young, probably ~2-3 years old. He hadn't intended for the orchestra to know, but Danchou found him asleep at his piano one day after rehearsal and gently woke him up and he was so very small as he helped him get home. Torpe was mortified at first and tried avoiding the band for a while, but with help from Miku and Kaito (workers at the tavern he used to perform at that may or not also be able to shapeshift into his animal friends) he eventually got the courage to explain everything to Danchou, who agreed to be his caregiver without a second thought.

♪ For Danchou, the signs that Torpe is slipping are quite easy for him to see. Either side of his personality ends up amplified, be it the more shy and nervous part of him or the part that's more irritable and passionate. He fiddles more with his jacket and is somehow even more clingy towards him (dantoru is real in my aus for this I don't make the rules-). However, they are musicians through and through, so if they're practicing and Torpe starts to feel small Danchou can always tell through if his playing starts becoming a bit less refined than it usually is. Torpe tries to hide that he's regressed sometimes, but Danchou always tries to assure him that it's okay, his darling pianist can be small whenever he pleases <3

♪ Torpe still loves playing piano while small, even if he's not the best at it. He mostly plays simpler songs, but he's still incredibly talented for such a little guy. Danchou is always happy to hear his little one's music, and he even got him a toy piano that he absolutely loves while tiny. (Torpe's favorite song to play while small is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

♪ Torpe also adores reading picture books and going on walks while small, which Danchou is always willing to provide. Torpe usually doesn't like public places when he's little, but outings to the town's library to read books while snuggled up close with his papa makes him happier than almost anything.

♪ Torpe loves cats, even more so when he's small. Whenever he's out with Danchou and he sees one, the baby always tries to go running to say hi to it, his caregiver having to remind him to not startle the animals. He carries a stuffed kitten he's had since he was a kid almost everywhere with him when he's small; when he first showed it to Danchou it was in pretty rough shape, so he quickly patched and cleaned it up food as new for his little one ♡

♪ Danchou rarely calls Torpe by his first name, and the times it happens is either during really personal and lovey moments or when he's small, and when it happens it always makes him feel incredibly special and loved (and smaller during the latter). Other nicknames he has for tiny Torpe are "little pianist", "little star", and other things along those lines. Danchou is a bit hard for the baby to pronounce, so he usually calls him Rui when he's little, which similarly to Torpe, always makes Danchou melt. The only ones who usually call Torpe Tsukasa are his siblings and Shizuku, and the only ones who call Danchou Rui are Nene and Mizuki, so these moments show a closeness with each other the two rarely get with others. (Also Torpe may or may not have called Danchou Papa a few times, he gets mortified afterwards but Danchou feels honored whenever it happens.)

♪ If Torpe is ever small and Danchou isn't available to look after him, Nene and Emu are always happy to look after their orchestra's little one! Torpe even while big was initially nervous around them but was able to feel more relaxed within a few weeks of joining the band, but he still feels a bit cautious around them while small. Thankfully, the two of them are really good at helping him feel better and more comfortable with them, performing music for him or playing simple games with him make him instantly feel better, Torpe loves "Mumu" and Nene (seeing as he usually just calls them Otori and Kusanagi while big they melt at the titles). Torpe lives with his two younger siblings, and he's still nervous to tell them about this side of himself, but Danchou is slowly helping him get the courage to someday.

[KKIR] Modern AU - Teaching Pains Pt1

Day 1: Meet Cute Ugly

Few Friday evenings bring Iruka as great a feeling of deliverance as this one does. Sure, he still has schedules to ponder and lesson plans to revise, but at the very least he shouldn’t be getting any more maddening emails from a part-time, freshly arrived colleague clearly set on sharing his opinions about their school.

Iruka usually considers himself a people person. One with a temper, undeniably, but still, he’s level-headed enough to keep it in check most of the time and also, he’s personable. He and his colleagues get along. Hell, he’s on his way to share drinks with them at their customary dive. They’re a tight bunch. They get each other.

All that’s to say, Iruka doesn’t feel particularly responsible for the fury that’s simmering in his veins at the moment. Mister University Professor, on the other hand, he of the self-inflated ego, can shoulder all the blame.

By the time Iruka’s pushing into the crowded bar, his irritation hasn’t simmered low enough that the familiar sight of his colleagues’ shades of purple, gray, black and brown hair all cluttered together on a small table doesn’t set it aflame again. Time to vent, it is. He knows Mizuki will try to say something mild and diffusing, but at least Anko can be counted on to rant along.

“Can you believe the gall of the new guy?” he exclaims on his way over once he’s within shouting distance. Kotetsu looks up, wide-eyed by surprise. “Who does he think he is? Barely arrived, hasn’t even learned how things work, hasn’t bothered meeting anyone, and is already criticizing how we do things! Why bother entering a joint initiative if it’s to dismiss everything about it? Does he think money grows on trees? We don’t have the budget KU has!” He gives Mizuki an absent-minded pat of greeting on the back and rounds the table to take the free seat left on the other side. “Completely disconnected from the reality of teaching, that one. Hope he’s better at passing on knowledge than he is at taking it in.”

There's a gray haired stranger sitting across from him.

Iruka narrows his eyes. ''You're not Mizuki.''

“Nope.”

Iruka takes stock of Kotetsu and Izumo's twin looks of horror on each side of the stranger, and Anko's rictus on his left, and feels the exhaustion of the week catch up with him in a way such that he's too tired to be mortified.

''You're him aren't you?" he asks tonelessly.

''Yep,'' professor Hatake Kakashi, of all people, replies.

Already done with the situation, Iruka grabs the beer sitting somewhere in Kotetsu's vicinity and downs it. He slams it down when he's done and takes a pause to mull things over before meeting Kakashi's eyes.

''This isn't how I'd have liked to phrase it but I stand by my words,'' he says.

Kakashi shrugs and points to the empty pint glass still cool in Iruka's hand. ''That was mine, by the way.''

Of course it was. Some days are just cursed from start to end. Iruka closes his eyes so he can roll them at himself in the privacy of his own eyelids.

“The house pale ale, was it?” he says with a sigh, and sets off to fix that mistake at least.

By the time he’s back, the intruder has left.

Anko gives him a slow clap.

“You really don’t blunder halfway, uh?” Kotetsu chokes out, half genuine awe.

Iruka makes the executive decision that this is a problem best left for Monday-him and settles down for the merciless mocking that is sure to follow.

I’m not surprised by the most popular groups (though as a l/n fan it does feel discouraging sometimes asdfghjl). But do you know the most popular characters for each unit and maybe why they are the most popular 🧐

thanks to elongated muskrat I can’t check any of the old stats accounts so this is from memory.

I believe the most popular character in Leo/need is Saki. I think part of it is the gyaru/genki girl personality, like she’s very fun and that usually appeals to a lot of people. Also she’s very popular with people who are disabled/chronically ill for obvious reasons. And like all the Tenma sibs (Incl Toya) are pretty popular, and specifically Tsukasa so I think she gets a bit of a boost from that.

More More Jump I actually am not sure. All I know is they used to consistently show up at the bottom on title stats alongside MEIKO and Honami. I think Shizuku was usually highest (this is for JP). Tbh from observation I’d say she’s probably the most popular MMJ girl in EN fandom as well. I think her looks might play a part in it I can’t lie but her voice and character arc probably help as well.

I think the most popular from VBS is Toya but again stats showed that he, Akito and Kohane are all pretty popular on JP and consistently showed up pretty close to each other (An is the least popular from VBS by a noticeable margin rip An 6ever in our hearts). Again like I said all the Tenma sibs are popular but I think his voice (on top of the fact that I’m fairly certain that itoken is one of the bigger names among the cast) and his “appears cool but is actually very soft” character archetype make him quite popular.

Tsukasa is the most popular character in the game no question on both sides of the fandom. He’s got a lot of appeal so like it’s totally understandable: his arc in the main story is a pretty solid “starts out as a jerk ends up being a nice person” kinda arc, he’s also the onii-chan character and the comic relief character. Seriously I think a large part of it is just because the game is very aware of the fact that he’s their weirdguy and treat him as such (it’s why i post so many facts about him because there’s so much stupid trivia dropped about him compared to everyone else; he runs on rule of funny 50% of the time).

N25 I think is the main one with clear different favourites between EN and JP. Mizuki is the most popular one on EN. Definitely connected to their trans swag bc a lot of fans connect to that (prsk has a largely queer fanbase on EN side). Also they’re pretty energetic and fun but also depressed and have a compelling backstory that again a lot of people can relate to. They’re very popular on JP as well just not the most popular.

For JP the most popular Niigo girl is Kanade. She’s like up there with Tsukasa on JP for most popular character. I think the appeal comes from her kindness and determination to save people despite her own trauma and she’s quite cute in an unconventional way (hikikomori) as well. I think there’s some boost from tomoriru as well being another bigger name for the cast. She voices for Revstar and voiced for Love Live Nijigasaki when the game launched, as well as some anime, and has a good following so that might be a contributing factor in her popularity.

OOOOOOO-

Platonic Minokasa is one of my favorite dynamics my goodness, Minori learning to be more confident from one of the most confident people in the game-

I like to think that her speech gets like his sometimes, all grandiose and confidence, the others can tell she's been hanging out with him more if her catchphrases sound more like his introductions.

Tsukasa watches MMJ livestreams a lot, mainly for Shizuku, but he is a very big fan of Minori as well! He thought about how far she'd come compared to the Fan Festa once and almost started crying he's so proud-

They hang out every once in a while, rarely on purpose, just if they run into each other at a mall or something they will end up catching up. Sometimes they practice dancing or singing together, whenever Minori gives advice to Tsukasa instead of the other way around he feels whiplash, the student had become the master!

With An, I feel like it's almost similar to how Akito feels with Tsukasa, but not as intense, mainly as a holdover from her time on the disciplinary committee. She thinks he's a bit annoying and chaotic, but seeing as Kohane and Toya look up to him so much she's willing to give him a chance.

Tsukasa definitely admires and appreciates all of VBS in a way, since not only are their goals and efforts truly commendable, but they're taking such good care of his little brother, he's so happy nowadays! He's quite grateful to them, and he tries to show it as much as he can. ("Thank you so very much for doing so much for Toya! It truly warms my heart to see him feeling so happy. You know, when we were children, we-" "You're acting like a mom right now Tsukasa-senpai..."

An sees a lot of WxS' shows with Kohane, and she oddly enjoys them in a way she'd never admit. Sure, she hates when Tsukasa and Rui cause chaos throughout the school, but when it's confined to the stage she's able to appreciate everything they put into their work. She's even found herself taking inspiration from their stage direction or dances in musicals when planning VBS performances, though she knows that if she says that Akito will never let her hear the end of it.

I also sorta just wanna mention that they both have similar goals in hindsight? They both want to surpass those who came before them in a way (Tsukasa becoming a star like those he admired as a kid, An surpassing RAD WEEKEND), and I think that they feel a vague connection because of it, even if they don't realize it.

Meanwhile, Mizuki and Tsukasa probably consider each other friends, they talk sometimes at school and have gone shopping for clothes and materials together. Their main connector is sewing and such, they deserve to have a fun mildly gossipy sewing "date" (I see them as platonic but)

Seeing as Rui canonically made Mizuki a machine that plays funny Tsukasa voicelines to cheer them up, I feel like they're up there as one of the bigger WxS fans (alongside Kohane, Saki, Toya, etc). They don't go to a lot of their shows, but they see recordings of them a lot and send their praises to them, though Tsukasa somehow hasn't connected the dots and realized that they're seeing them online. ("Amazing show last weekend Tsukasa-senpai!" "How did you see it? You weren't in the crowd! Were you invisible, a ghost?! Show yourself!") Mizuki finds this incredibly funny.

Since they were the one behind Nene and Rui's original show costumes, Tsukasa has come to Mizuki for advice on this topic a few times before. If he's feeling stuck on something, why not ask a master? He always feels extremely grateful whenever they help him, maybe to the point of excess ("I'll do anything to repay you for your wonderful deed, Akiyama! Tickets to our next show, money, anything!" "Y-You don't have to repay me for doing something I wanted to do...").

Mizuki sometimes finds themself feeling a bit jealous of Tsukasa's confidence. They're always so worried about seeming weird or being looked down upon, yet the way he can always be so bombastic and stand out without a care in the world is something they both admire and envy. They don't like bringing this up, though Rui has noticed it in them at times. When this happens, he usually brings up times Tsukasa has struggled or faltered, and how he and them aren't so different. They're both some of the most important people to Rui, so he wants to help them both shine their brightest and feel comfortable in their own skins.

Japanese QL Corner

ICYMI: There are so many Japanese qls airing weekly, so I’m going to start posting this little round up at the end of each week. All but one of these are on Gaga and I highly recommend watching!

Chaser Game W

Fuyu got a personality transplant this week and I have officially given up on this show being what I hoped it was. Enjoy the mess and the humiliation kink and don't look for consistent writing, logical plot, or deeper themes and you will find some things to enjoy. Like these two beautiful ladies making out a bunch!

Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yara ka

I love this show so much, y'all. This week we got the return of Sakae's selfish chaos ex, Mizuki, and because this is a show by and for adults, this resulted in our leads engaging in some proper communication, clarifying their feelings for each other, and sharing their first kiss by the end of the episode. I loved seeing more of Sakae and Mizuki's dynamic, and I just know if Soga wasn't in the picture Mizuki would already be in with Sakae again. Sakae is a soft touch and Mizuki clearly knows how to play him. But thankfully, Soga has already wormed his way into Sakae's loyal heart, so he was not tempted to waver. And for Soga, who is experiencing a queer awakening via his relationship with Sakae, Mizuki's presence was a much needed jolt to sort out his own feelings and decide he wants to try a relationship despite his concerns about not staying in Osaka long-term. I also loved the way their friends rallied around them to push Sakae and Soga to figure their shit out, and the sauna scenes will never get old.

Perfect Propose

It's official, I have adopted Kai as my child and will be forming a protection squad. This show is striking a good tonal balance of being fairly downbeat and serious, between Kai's past and Hiro's current work/life balance issues, but also uplifting in how their relationship builds. I like that they talk to each other so honestly about what they're feeling for each other, and Kai's quiet confidence that Hiro returns his feelings and just needs to come to terms with it is both hilarious and correct. My favorite thing that happened in this episode was Kai confidently noting all the ways Hiro’s body was responding to him and asking him to “be conscious of it.” Kai wants Hiro to be conscious of Kai’s feelings but also of his own responses, and he’s asking him not to look away from it and pretend he doesn’t know there’s something between them. I love the confidence of that.

And I sympathize with Hiro, as well, because it's not just that he's never considered being with a man before--he also just doesn't feel he has anything to offer to a partner right now given his brutal work situation. His guilt and shame for missing the festival after inviting Kai to go together was real, and you can see that he just can’t fathom having anything to give with the situation he’s in at work right now. The trick will be trusting that Kai can accept those limitations until he’s able to find a better balance, and then actually taking steps to pay attention to what he needs and wants, both in this relationship and in his career. Hiro has not been taking care of himself and it's catching up to him.

Ossan's Love Returns

A downbeat week for this show, and an episode that did not entirely work for me. I liked some of the themes they were exploring in this one, but it was all missing the humor that I've come to rely on and I don't feel that all the story threads pulled together as tightly as they normally do. In particular, my head is inquisitively tilted at the show's decision to make Maki and Haruta's wedding episode feel like such a misery slog, to focus primarily on the tension and strife leading up to the event rather than the joy it should inspire, and then to stay in the melancholy after a small moment of catharsis for our couple (and some season 1 flashbacks) by focusing on the sadness their marriage inspired in their various lonely suitors rather than their own wedded bliss. Seeing a wedding in jbl is a practically unheard of occurrence; a bit more queer joy was in order IMO and its absence was notable. I also thought the swing from Kurosawa beginning to accept a new role in Haruta’s life to suddenly going back to being lovelorn felt abrupt and poorly constructed. It's not that I think these ideas are unfounded given the show's focus on older male characters who feel past their prime for romance, but the execution was not quite right. And of course I am not too keen on the death flagging we got at the end for Kurosawa; I really hope the show will not take this story in a tragic direction for him.

Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna 2

I have still only seen the first four episodes of this; sadly, the next batch is not yet available to me. But soon! In the meantime, let's revisit Nomoto sobbing over a lesbian film. She's just like me fr.

Next week we'll be continuing all of these plus adding My Strawberry Film, the final Drama Shower (go here for an explanation on what that is from @bengiyo) show for the season! I continue to be delighted by this embarrassment of jql riches.
