Hello! I’m having trouble finding fics that I like lately I’m looking all over but I think I generally can’t find fics where I like dracos characterization and hermiones. I was rereading the Gloriana set and the dark wood wand by ThebeMoon and I love draco in those. Generally I found he is either too dark and abusive or too sappy. I love a pining draco but I need him to adore h but also be cunning intelligent smooth powerful an equal to h but also a little troubled basically draco malfoy™. Like in the fallout. And H is generally easier for me to read but I don’t like her when they make her a pushover I like and equal power dynamic between them, like she’s still Hermione. Preferably hogwarts years but I don’t mind others. Any recs that come to mind? Ty
Gonna be honest with you, I haven't read any of the three you mentioned, so I don't know what personalities Draco and Hermione have in those.
Can anyone suggest any to fit anon's description?
Edit: Thanks!
dodo595: I just read The Choices We Make by Stacygenesi, it’s a really great Hogwarts 6th nd 7th year retelling. https://archiveofourown.org/works/42239013 | Soft As It Began by rubber_soul02 is set after the war and it’s really good, their characterisations was superb in this too https://archiveofourown.org/works/37174843

review! the gloriana set
i don't know why i always scoffed at the gloriana set on ao3. maybe part of my impersonal dislike of it's general existence was that it had been WIP for so long and generally seemed very drawn out and dissatisfying. i am finally reading it now for the first time, currently almost half way through, and i am torn. on one hand, i want to go back in time and slap myself for not giving it a second look, but also im glad i waited for it to be completed and that i can discover it for the first time now. although im sure i would have still enjoyed to reread it. ive already reread the first 28 chapters about 3 or 4 times since beginning it because i stop reading to do something else and just want to refresh myself. i enjoy it just the same every time.
maybe another part of why i didn't like the premise was the love triangle, which has turned into an acquired taste of mine especially with theo nott who i think (his characteristics being quite subjective depending on headcannon) is the perfect little tartlet thing to add a bit of spice. unintentional pun on sugar and spice which was definitely one of the most influential hp fanfics ive ever read personally. as well, my old opinion on hp fanfic esp concerning draco malfoy was that everyone needs to suffer, and this story is very very self indulgent.
in a way that makes you want to grab the characters by the shoulders and shake them.
loving it so far. will continue to review as i go because im having Thoughts.

Since I remember you saying on a previous post that it would be fun for you to write. I’d like to request a konrad x gn reader.
He’s what the the people on tumblr call a “poor little meow meow”. And I’d just like to see him not only tormented by visions but also by basic human feelings of affection and attraction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ 𝕸𝖔𝖔𝖉𝖞𝕸𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖞'𝖘 𝕸𝖆𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖑𝖎𝖘𝖙| 𝕬𝖔3 ]
Author's Note: This was fun to write :> I hope you both enjoy. This is my first real time writing anything for Konrad.
Summary: Konrad searches for you after you refused to listen to him.
Relationships: Konrad Curze/Gn!Reader
Warnings: NIGHT LORDS CONTENT, Blood, Gore mentions, Sevatar bullies you because he can, Abuse probably, Toxic relationship based on fear but also he kinda fine tho, Predator/Prey, It's Night Lords content I don't know what else I can say
Word Count: 1395
Tumblr media
You remember the words of Primarch Fulgrim when he’d first cast eyes on you.
‘Truly, he is utterly obsessed with you.’
You hadn't understood what he meant of it at the time. Though as time has gone by, your think back on it now and see what Fulgrim had been referring to.
Konrad speaks of you with a demented sort of worship, like you hold the only key to his ever elusive happiness. He’s obsessed with you, obedient to you, he’ll give you anything you desire no matter what it takes.
But most of all, he wants you to look at him and only him.
"There you are, little toy."
You turn and look to see a familiar set of dark blue armor, marred by smatterings of dried blood and scratches from its many years of dependable use.
You know Sevatar does this because he thinks it's demeaning to not call a superior by their proper title. Especially in a hierarchy as strict as an Astartes legion. You couldn't care less. You call him Jago anyways, and he always gives an odd little smile when you do.
You know more than likely why he's here. Konrad had attempted to summon you somewhere you refused to go- where you'd rather die than go- and now he's sending someone for you. Any other might assume that your living minutes were numbered after such a refusal towards a Primarch, though you think Konrad allows you to do so because he enjoys that you're scared.
"...Jago?"
Sevatar finds the whole thing both amusing and annoying. He has better things to do than fetch his genefather's cute little plaything. Though at least you provide enough amusement for it to be better than some of the other tasks he's been delegated over his years.
He steps into your personal space- not hard given the sheer size of the man- resting a hand on the pommel of his chainsword. He doesn’t grab for you, but you know he wants to.
"If you're not going to come when he calls," Sevatar leans over you, and you can smell the rotten flesh on his armor; See the way his eyes dart over your face. “Then you might want to just run instead and give him something fun."
You can only dare to look him in the eyes, and although he can see right through it, you attempt to not completely shatter under his gaze.
Though right as your hands start to shake Sevatar leans up and chuckles, before walking away.
The Nightfall is astronomical in size, you have no idea where you could possibly go. And getting lost could mean stumbling into Night Lords who care far less than Sevatar does about keeping their Primarch happy.
To them, they’ll taken whatever punishment put upon them if they get a chance to play with something as sweet as you, as Sevatar once said. The thought had made your throat tighten. Especially hearing his tone; That as much as you trust Sevatar- and maybe even Talos- more than the other Night Lords, he was thinking the same as them.
But you only know of a few places on the Gloriana class ship that you can get to without guidance. Konrad has been very deliberate with making sure you stay within his eyeline.
The bridge, which will be swarming with Night Lords and is more than likely where Konrad himself is. Then there is the area of the ship that serves as Konrad's private quarters. It’s familiar to you, he knows you would go there. The only other place is the small librarium that serves as a temporary placement for parchment of value being saved before returning to Nostramo.
It's largely empty. Pskyers in the legion are next to none, and only a few people keep the area from falling into any disrepair.
With Sevatar gone you instantly begin running for it, trying to make your way and avoid the eyes of anyone around.
Any large bang on the walls sounds like his boots, any scrape of machinery against metal sounds like his lightning claws. You keep looking over your shoulder every time.
When you finally reach it you don't even feel relieved; You know Konrad will find you.
You know that even if you had somehow managed to evade him for a moment Sevatar knows where you are- you'd be dumb if you hadn't noticed the feeling of his eyes on you, watching- he would just tell his genefather where you were to get his distraction concluded with faster.
You've never been particularly scared of the dark, but now it feels so enveloping. And while the unknown is terrifying, it also helps you feel small, tucked between shelves. While your heart might have relaxed from pounding against your rib cage from running, it’s still racing as your ears prick to every little sound. You touch old parchment with a fingertip, feeling rough against your skin.
You don't know how long it's been; Your stomach grumbles a bit, but it's hard to tell if it's hunger or nausea.
You can hear the door open, and the sound of boots on the floor. It makes your heart nearly stop for a moment.
You know it's him from the weight of them. You steel yourself back against a shelf and look towards the end where there's still a bit of light and can only wait.
To think, the man you think you love, who professes his obsession with you at every moment, can make you feel like this.
You imagine those moments where his black hair frames his face and his eyes aren’t nearly as dark when he looks at you, as his shadow approaches.
He finally catches sight of you, and his voice softens just a bit. Primarch voices are always so loud, especially when they yell, and he seems to always talk to you like you’re so, so gentle.
"There you are."
His cape brushes against the ground as he comes closer. He overtakes any little amount of light there is, shadowing your body in an even more darkness.
“Your hiding is cute, my love, but you know I'll always find you."
He isn’t wearing his full armor, only some cloth trousers and heavy boots leaving his upper body unclothed. You think they were the ones given to him by Fulgrim. His recent time with his brother has had a noticeable effect, though the smile he gives you is still while endearing- though perhaps that’s just you and your love for him- is still off.
He bows to get just close enough to you to grab your jaw with his right hand, but when that isn't close enough, he takes a knee.
His eyes are like voids as you look into him, his skin is perfect. The smile on his face you'd dare to call handsome of you weren't here; If he didn't have you cornered like a whimpering animal.
Why did it have to be him; Out of everyone in the galaxy, why did it have to be him that saw something in you worth loving. And why do you keep coming back for more.
That evening with Fulgrim had almost made him seem normal, and now you're back here; Back in Hell.
“Are you going to run again? Or just cry?” His fingers touch just below your eye, breaking your waterline and sending a single tear down your cheek. He leans even closer.
“You look so sweet when you cry.” His lips press against the shell of your ear.
"If you ever say his name like that again, I will make you step into that Gallery, my love."
You assume he must mean Jago. You don't know how he heard you, but you know he's obsessive, dominating, all-consuming; That you are his ever so tiny sliver of happiness he won't let go of. He's said before you are the only thing that makes his world not feel like torment, and you'd find almost romantic if it wasn't so suffocating.
His lips leave the shell of your ear and ghost over your own, as they tremble. You'd try and pull away if you weren't so trapped in him. You hate that even with how much he scares you, he has you caught like a fishhook.
"No one gets to hear you say their name but me."

Do you have any all time favorite fics? Any that specifically inspired your own? I absolutely love some recommendations for feel good, sexy, engaging romance (enemies to friends to lovers or just friends to lovers) fics. Thank you so much!!
Hello! And YES, I absolutely do. Some of these are the classic ones that everyone recs, but I've also included some WIPs that I am really loving atm that make me happy. SO:
Classics I re-read all the time:
DMATMOBIL - @isthisselfcare. This singlehandedly got me back into the fandom. I'm sure you've read it, but if you haven't, you absolutely must!
I love everything that @scullymurphy writes (plus they have great taste in music, and wine). Start with Universal Truths, but the recently completed Teach Me How To Forget is also delicious.
Similar for @thebemoon, I just love their stuff. The Darkwood Wand and The Gloriana Set are just so fun and enjoyable. I smile the whole way through.
Love and Other Historical Accidents by @pacific-rimbaud is frequently rec'd for a very good reason. Beautiful.
Also I have to shout out The Nature of Purity by @starsoforionwrites for some really interesting takes on wizarding society (and electricity!!!) which I am still thinking about.
How to Win Friends and Influence People by @olivieblake is the closest fic I've found to a Caput Mortuum-esque unhinged Hermione, and is really great fun.
Now we get to the WIPs that I'm loving, which again probably don't count as inspirations but are very much in the genre of things I love to read (and therefore, write!)
You Do It For Me by @zeebee3 is just delicious. Talk about fics you smile the whole way through.
I am ADORING Scary Partner Privilege by @nightbloom7reads. It deserves SO MUCH hype, because it's just excellent.
Erotic Friend Fiction by @whiskeygreen hasn't been updated in a while, but it is hilarious and you have 47 delicious chapters to get through!
Things Without Remedy by @onebedtorulethemall is also brilliant and deserves more hype. Very sexy big brain, hyper competent Hermione, and very sexy laboratory descriptions too. Anyone who writes anything about time travel I instantly am in awe, because I just don't think my brain could ever work that way.
Finally, If These Walls Could Talk by @incognitotoro is absolutely delightful. Bloody love cursebreaking, bloody love the medieval period, bloody love when they both exist in a fic.
these are all I can think of off the top of my head, but yes, I hope there are a few that you haven't come across yet! xxx

Hi please can you give me some good Draco and hermione fics? Xxx
Idk if you want full length or oneshots, but I’ll go for full length.
To start off the list, I am FINALLY reading manacled. I’m on chapter 55 or somewhere around there and it is in fact amazing, but please PLEASE check trigger warnings. It’s not for everyone and I definitely wouldn’t give it to anyone as their first Dramione fic.
The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy - this one feels so in character and like it could actually be the last book. Loved it a lot and it’s one of the ones I read more recently meaning in the past year.
The Gloriana Set- I’ll be so honest I’ve forgotten most of this one but clearly I enjoyed it a lot or it wouldn’t be in my saved 😭
Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love- I can’t stress enough how much this is one of my favorite fics I’ve read. It took me a couple chapters to get into but IT’S SO SLOW BURN AND SO GENUINELY FUNNY and the author has a book being published next year that I’ll definitely be purchasing.
Twinned Quills- I also don’t remember much of this one but sometimes I enter a haze when I read these lmao. It’s in my saved so past me loved something in it!
Remain Nameless- genuinely cannot eat a blueberry scone without thinking of this fic. It’s SO good and felt super in character.
Things We’re all too Young to Know- this fic felt very unique and I remember especially enjoying the first half!
The Rights and Wrongs Series- I shove this one so far down literally everyone’s throat and I will continue to do so! SOOOO good. Some of my favs. The pining from draco in this is top tier.
Also, go read the fallout if you haven’t. I don’t have a link to it on hand and I don’t feel comfortable linking random people’s google docs that I’ve found, but it can be found with a google search. It’s just not on the fic websites anymore.

my december reads: dramione
few dramione I finished reading this December:
Enamored by mrsren | E, 6962 words | bff dramione, single father draco | He wants to press her to the wall of the lift while it’s stuck, and kiss her until she realizes how far gone he is.
it has to be you by thelashjedi | E, 9184 words | 8th year dramione, literally fuck or die | “Granger, you have no idea the impact those periwinkle ruffles had on me,” Draco said defensively, before immediately looking at his feet again — the bloody coward. She scoffed. “Ha! I think you saw your first exposed collarbone and it broke your brain.” Blaise turned to Draco. “I mean, she’s not wrong, mate. That’s basically what happened.”
The Gloriana Set by ThebeMoon <restricted> | E, 271830 words | 8th year au, enemy to frenemy to ambiguous to lovers, hermione harem | Hermione’s hopes for a quiet school year are quickly dashed as she contends with mischievous First Years, killer plants, enchanted hair accessories, a totally inappropriate Moaning Myrtle, renegade Death Eaters, a nice vampire, a poorly named study group, a depraved party, and mysterious, threatening blood messages on the castle walls

Download: SFS / Mega
As requested by @neptun787878, this is a set of showerproof skins for @glorianasims's Sexy Gal body shape. AF and EF sims who have these skins will have that body shape when naked (other groups will have their default Maxis shapes). These skins are repo'd to your default skins (or the Maxis skins if you don't use default replacements) so that they can fit into everyone's game.
The required top and bottom meshes are included - I made them from the meshes that Gloriana included in this upload. You will have to choose if you want blockfeet or sexyfeet.
Gloriana has shared plenty of awesome clothing for Sexy Gal on Tumblr and Patreon, please go check it out!
More details about the skins below.
What are showerproof skins? They are skins linked to a custom body shape (or body shapes). When you give a showerproof skin to a sim, that sim will have the body shape that the skin is linked to when they are nude (taking a bath, streaking, doing ACR stuff, etc.). Showerproof skins have no effect whatsoever on clothing, because clothes use their own meshes.
The skins on this post are custom skins that are repo’d to your skin defaults (S1-2-3-4 + alien) or to the Maxis skins if you don’t use defaults. Let me repeat that they are custom skins - they will not replace your skin defaults, they will only have the same textures as your defaults. It means that if you ever switch default skins, these will change automatically on their own so that everything matches. These skins are not geneticized or townified. If you’d like to genetify and townify them, check out Rikkulidea’s tutorial.
In CAS, they will appear in your custom skins with these thumbnails:
Tumblr media
Uncensored previews are included in the download, but keep in mind that they're really only relevant as previews for the meshes - the textures will be different in your game depending on what default skins you use.
Let me know if you have any question or issue ~

Hey!! Really grateful for all the work y'all do around here. Lifesavers, honestly.
I'm looking for fics with the 'Voldemort died but the death eaters lived on' premise. I've already read The Pretense by Colubrina, and the theme of Draco helping Hermione act as a spy and what not, it was all just so interesting. So yeah, fics similar to The Pretense or maybe just the 'Voldemort died but the death eaters rule didn't end' kinda fic?
Thank you sooo much!
Aurelian by BittyBlueEyes - T, 43 chapters - Two years after the war, a young stranger pays a visit to the burrow. His arrival alone is baffling, but the news he brings of an upcoming war turns the world upside down. Hermione’s quiet, post-war life will never be the same.
The Best of Me - mrsren - M, 27 chapters - Officially, Hermione Granger was killed in action during the Battle of Hogwarts. Unofficially, Draco Malfoy has never stopped searching for her. Years after the war during a mission in France, his salvation comes in the form of a little blond boy and a familiar half-Kneazle.
The Art of Ascension by GinnyFics21 - E, WIP - Ten years after the fall of Voldemort, Auror Draco and Detective Hermione are partnered together on the Ministry’s high profile case hinting at a Death Eater resurgence. Can they put the pieces together to stop it as the plot unfolds and secrets unravel between them? “I know what you did, Malfoy; what you sacrificed,” Hermione said quietly. “There is good in you somewhere if you’ll let yourself see it.”His eyes were dark, unreadable and calculating as he stared back at her, “I may be on the side of the angels, Granger, but don’t think—for one second—that I am one of them.” ****A fic written around this particular quote from Sherlock.
The Gloriana Set by ThebeMoon - M, 81 chapters, Words: 271,830 - The War is won, and Hermione Granger is back at Hogwarts as an “Eighth Year”, feeling reckless and determined to shed her prim bookworm persona. She will do as she pleases, and anyone who doesn’t like it will see the business end of her wand. Also returning is Draco Malfoy, universally hated but determined to restore his family’s name. Hermione’s hopes for a quiet school year are quickly dashed as she contends with mischievous First Years, killer plants, enchanted hair accessories, a totally inappropriate Moaning Myrtle, renegade Death Eaters, a nice vampire, a poorly named study group, a depraved party, and mysterious, threatening blood messages on the castle walls. We have redemption, partial redemption and (sadly or hilariously) no redemption at all. Throw in a snarky, disturbingly attractive Draco with his own secret agenda, and we have a very slow-burn Dramione with a side of who-dun-it. COMPLETE!
How To Love A Slytherin by SlytherinsGreenPrincess - M, 11 chapters - When the ancient Marriage Law is reenacted, Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy agree to marry. But while dodging her abusive ex-boyfriend, Ron Weasley, and a new group of rogue death eaters, will they survive?
The End’s Intent - shewritesall - T, 33 chapters - Hermione Granger did not know just what she was getting into when she made friends with a pointy faced, blond boy during her first year. Draco Malfoy did not know how utterly in love he’d become with the bushy haired muggle born girl. Both of them thought they knew what they could expect when they returned to Hogwarts for their final year, but after a freak encounter with some werewolves and an unfortunate incident with wannabe Death Eaters, things turn out much, much different than either of them could have ever imagined.
Shifted - hiccupfound - E, 26 chapters - Three years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Voldemort has gone deep into hiding behind the protection of the remaining Death Eaters. The few surviving Order Members are given one Death Eater to assassinate to draw Voldemort out for the Final Battle. Ginny is given Bellatrix Lestrange, Harry takes Antonin Dolohov. Hermione has Draco Malfoy.

the gloriana set (derogatory)
around chapter 50 im like, where has the story gone? why has every character turned into a caricature of themselves? nothing is happening at this point except drawn out, cartoonish behaviour and pure nonsensical drama. ok cool neville is here but forcing him to talk about his sex life when he's obviously uncomfortable seems extreme and wrong. is this supposed to be a display of friendship? am i the only one who thinks it's not cool.
also what started off as ok cool hermione establishing her independence and individuality, has sourly turned into hermione acting like a rabid chihuahua without a shred of self awareness. and not in a cute way. by giving the story a focal point of "situations where men displayed an undercurrent of controlling, patronising, manipulative behaviour get taught a lesson by the narrative" to "the only thing holding the narrative and it's characters together are displays of controlling, patronising, manipulative behaviour." oh btw let me just toss in an attempted sa and then never mention it again because my sidekicks have taken up an uncomfortably large portion of the story. also these cheap gimmicks will not provide anything to the story, the story doesn't exist anymore because all you're reading is what should be ooc crack one-shots that have deviated so far from the original premise, you don't even know what you're reading anymore.
but sure, fuck it let's just destroy all these characters we spent 50 chapters creating. fuck why not turn ron into a horrid, possessive, stupid, spitting and drooling caricature of a dog on a leash as a friend? i feel like on one hand ok cool you've accomplished a lot in terms of character progression... but know when to stop. i miss hermione and her loop. i miss malfoy having depth. you're really going to mention draco's love is an obsession and then show me exactly how it is and then want me to accept it as the new driving power in the narrative? like. HER LOOP ISN'T EVEN MENTIONED ANYMORE!!! you had so many opportunities.... where are they gone? theo's character is probably the only part of this im still invested in. ginny has 0 personality, blaise is taking up way too much space, the flashback was terribly written, and the prank on astoria is like 10 chapters late of me even caring about it.
to take all this extra shit out, bringing it back to basics of shit: there's a curse on hogwarts (wow malfoy blood...), astoria (get punkd sucka), hermione's plan for after hogwarts (just like hermione's pov, im just trying to get through this story one day at a time), hermione and ginny's friendship taking a back seat to their boytroubles, the aspect of boytroubles at all honestly..., hermione and draco get together and don't immediately solve all the sexual tension they both have with each other AND theo (let's be honest). this is debt of time level painstakingly boring middle material. just waiting tens of thousands of words to get to a story that could've been told better and more succintly if the author had any sense of tension, payoff, build-up, and character loyalty and didn't just fuck around in the mud.
why is everyday like bam wake up bam something happens bam something happens bam she sleeps 7 hours, girl im exhausted even reading about your day let alone wanting to imagine it in even more detail.
im going to hold out hope that maybe it turns around.... but honestly im so sick of these assholes.
at least i always have the first 25 chapters to reread that i can still enjoy. if anyone can tell me otherwise to any of the above i welcome it. i desperately wish i was wrong.

For my last Helluva Boss celebration I made a whole series of posts about the Nine Circles of Hell in Dante’s Inferno (see a few reblogs below). For my new Helluva Boss celebration, I wanted to take a look at various literary depictions of the seven deadly sins as personifications. This post was originally prepared to celebrate Mammon’s Magnificent Musical, but given the release of “Look My Way”, it will still work even though I post it quite late.
When it comes to looking at classic embodiments of the deadly sins, I want to begin with one of the “modern, non-Antique epics” that marked the history of literature, like the Orlando Furioso or Paradise Lost. I want to take a look today at Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene, the great British epic of the 16th-17th centuries, a medieval-romance-like set of stories depicting the adventures of allegorical knights fighting allegorical monsters. The poem is filled with characters embodying various vices and virtues – the very heroes of the story are a set of knights acting as the champions of the various Christian virtues (the Redcross Knight is the champion of Holiness, as an avatar of saint Georges the patron of England ; Guyon, first of the Faerie Queen’s knights, is the champion of Temperance ; Britomart, the woman-knight, is the champion of Chastity, Artegal is the champion of Justice, etc, etc.) ; while the villains are very unsubtle in their nature (a female demon named Ate is assisted by Duessa – deceit – and spreads discord among friends ; a lonely man named Despair convinces the hero to kill himself, etc, etc.)
But today I want to focus on a specific episode of the epic’s first book. An episode usually known as the “House of Pride” and where the main hero (the Red-Cross Knight, the protagonist of the epic’s first book) encounters the embodiments of the seven deadly sins.
Tumblr media
For a bit of context, the depiction of the seven deadly sins here is meant to parallel and counter-exemplify two other parts of the poem. On one side, the House of Pride is later opposed by the “House of Holiness” where the Redcross-Knight is helped, healed and cared for by a lady named Caelia, who has three daughters, Fidelia, Speranza and Charissa. This is all supposed to embody the Christian concept of the “three theological virtues”, the three virtues that come from God – Faith, Hope and Charity, born of “The Sky/The Heavens”. On the other side, the House of Pride and its queen are meant to mirror the titular Faerie Queene of the poem, Queen Gloriana – a very flattering fictional portrait of Elisabeth the First, but also the embodiment of “Glory” as her name says. Aka the positive, well-deserved and non-sinful twin of the viceful Pride – here embodied by the dreaded lady Lucifera.
Lady Lucifera is, it comes to no surprise, the owner and ruler of the House of Pride. The other deadly are all male, and act as both her counselors and her court wizards (being called alternatively “sage counselors” and “old wizards”). This all fits within the accepted idea that pride is not just the most dangerous and “important” of the seven deadly sins, it is also their root and their “superior”. In many metaphors, it is translated by pride being seen as the “king” or “mother” of the other deadly sins: in the Faerie Queene, she is their ruler, their queen. But, in an interesting twist, Spenser establishes a true relationship of co-dependency between the sins: the other six might be Pride’s servants… but they are still her advisors, counselors, and they are later literally seen pulling her chariot, clearly showing that while Pride leads them and gives them order, without the other sins, Pride would literally go nowhere.
But let us return to Lucifera before looking at her “old wizards”. Lucifera is obviously named after Lucifer, the figure of the fallen angel that became a devil, if not THE devil, for thinking of himself as better than humanity, and ultimately rebelling against God and trying to cast Him down. Lucifer is commonly seen as THE demon embodying pride – and Spenser also loves to throw various references to the mythological origins of Lucifer, as his name meaning “light-bearer” is due to how, in Greco-Roman mythology, Lucifer was the spirit of the Morning Star, announcing dawn. Here, Lucifera is constantly described as “bright” or as “shining”, and when she leaves her castle on her chariot, she is explicitly compared to “Aurora in her purple pall” coming out from the east of the world – aka, Eos, the Greek goddess of Dawn. Not only that, but the excessive “shine” and almost blinding light that is emitted by the lady of Pride is also put in parallel to the light of Phaeton. Remember Phaeton? The human who thought he could drive the chariot of Helios/Phoebus, the god of the sun? And who in the process almost destroyed the earth, and had to be killed by being thrown out of the sky with a fire-bolt? Another example of pride punished, and one explicitly meant to mirror Lucifer’s own fall from Heaven. But this woman is not a fallen angel, no: rather she is described as an actual goddess, “daughter of grisly Pluto and sad Proserpina, queen of Hell”. So, she is a deity, but part of the grim, sinister, chthonian gods of death, and she is a princess true, but a princess of the Underworld (aka Hell, since the two are treated as one and the same, and Pluto/Proserpina gained demonic connotations by this time). Already we have here a Pride that is explicitly rooted in death and the afterlife, in darkness, oblivion and rot – we are in the same logic as the “vanities” and the “memento mori”, the lesson that ultimately nothing is eternal, and vanity is a folly because all beautiful faces will end up as a skull.
However Spenser cleverly also prepares us, by this mythological references, to the presentation of what Lucifera’s behavior and crimes are. Because Lucifera is not one of those “vain fools” who think of themselves as beautiful when they are not – on the contrary. Lucifera is immensely beautiful, and even if it wasn’t for her beauty, she sits in an array of immense luxury, wearing the most refined and outstanding clothes and dazzling jewelries you can imagine. Lucifera is a truly admirable figure – quite literally since it is said that knights and lords from all four corners of the world come to her palace to admire her. The twist lies in HOW she behaves and acts. Because Lucifera does not care for her many guests, hosts and admirers, treating them with only scorn and disdain – breaking the basic law of hospitality and the rules of courtly behavior by her immense selfishness. Her many admirers and courtiers are said to constantly make themselves prettier, shinier, more noble and more appealing, attracting, charming, all in the hope of pleasing her – but she does not care at all for all their effort, and probably does not even notice them. When great knights and lords offer themselves to her, she does thank them… But in a disdainful way, and with very brief words, and only because they promised to spread words of her fame and glory and beauty. She is said to hate everything that is “low” (which is why, out of allegorical joke, she always sits on a high throne and makes sure she is above everyone else) – but given she thinks of everything outside of herself as “low”, she ends up hating everybody. She only looks at two things – either her hand-mirror (because her own reflection brings her “great delight and joy”), either the heavens. Again, due to a hatred of “anything low” and a desire to only have the highest, tallest and grandest things – but also because she rejects her own chthonian, underworld-roots. Indeed, while she is the daughter of Pluto and Proserpina (Hades and Persephone), she rather places herself on the same level (and sometimes above) as Jove (aka Zeus). Zeus/Jove, Eos/Aurora, and Phaeton: Lucifera dreams and fashions herself after the celestial beings of the sky and of light, when in truth she is a chthonian entity of death, earth and darkness.
Not only that, but she fashions herself a queen when she is not… Remember when I said that she was the daughter of Pluto and Proserpina, king and queen of Hell? It makes her a princess alright… An eternal princess, since her parents are immortal gods and thus will never pass any crown onto her. But Lucifera, devoured by ambition and arrogance, HAD to be a queen. So what did she do? She went onto earth and there obtained a crown… “with wrong and tyranny”. She literally stole and took by force a crown that was not hers, usurped a territory and made herself the sole and absolute ruler of it. Not only is she a false ruler with no actual right to sit on the throne, but she even went as far as to usurp a domain that had no relationship to her parents, lineage or world – daughter of the principles of death and the underworld, she decided to make herself a queen of the livings onto earth’s surface… Even worse, she is not a good queen, because according to Spenser, beyond being a “tyrant”, she does not rule with “laws” but with “policies”. And in the language of the time, “policies” are here to mean “cunning and crafty devices”. She is a tyrant who not only brutally seized a crown and usurped a thrown, but on top of that establishes her rule through cunning, trickery and unlawful behavior (it is not surprise that here, her counsel is explicitly described as being formed of “six wizards” – they are not men of the law, they are not men of politics or courtiers, they are not men of war or economy, they are wizards and sorcerers, forming a government of magic tricks and deceiving enchantments). As a visual touch to denote the evilness and danger inherent to her superb appearance: at her feet, lies a dragon, that forms a “hideous trayne” to her glorious, shining, sparkling and luxurious dress.
[There is also a “gentle husher” that works for queen Lucifera, and notably always prepare her passage before she goes anywhere, obviously called Vanity, but there isn’t much to say here since he is a one-line reference]
Tumblr media
Just as important as Lucifera herself is the palace she lives within and rules from: the House of Pride, which is the architectural twin of Lucifera, and the inanimate embodiment of the sin of Pride (and of all sins and vices in general). The House of Pride is described as a great and grandly palace, all filled with luxuries, all shining and bright… It is covered in gold! Or rather… it is foiled in golds. The walls of the palace were covered in a thin layer of gold to hide the actual material in which the castle was made – a very rough and very poor material. Great and high walls that impress everyone by their size – but which are made of bricks without mortar, and are thus very easy to destroy. The palace is thought of as grandiose because it has many hallways and numerous towers and a LOT of rooms – but its foundations are actually very weak, since the castle was built… on a “sandy hill”. A hill of sand that is very unstable and regularly collapses – threatening the entire palace, which “shakes with every strong wind”. Finally, while everybody amasses themselves and awaits by the front of the palace, its backrooms and back-parts, those not seen from the path leading to the House, are noted to all be old ruins… but “painted cunningly” to hide their own decrepitude. You could say that Vanity, the “gentle husher”, is an extension of the House of Pride itself – since it all depicts the sin of vanity itself. A great care of appearances and an obsession with beauty forcing one to hide the truth, to fight foolishly and senselessly the effects of time or one’s true nature, all to create a deceptive idea of an ideal self that never truly existed. More generally, the House of Pride represents the very trap that is a sin, or a vice in general – it is the House of Evil if you want. It is grandiose, immense, beautiful, shining, with all sorts of riches and treasures… But it is built out of poor materials, it offers no real protection or comfort, its riches are only skin-deep (or wallpaper-deep), and it is overall an unstable structure that is already a half-ruin. The danger of the House is made even more explicit by the large road that leads to it – a large pathway that many people take to go to the House, but that very few people use to leave… And when Lucifera leaves her castle on her chariot, and goes down the road, the protagonist can suddenly see what paves the way and that he missed before – the things the wheels of Lucifera’s chariot gleefully crushes. The bones and skulls of all those that “went astray” and went by the House of Pride…
The dual of nature of the House and Lucifera (who represent the two sides of pride – Lucifera is scorn, disdain, ambition and arrogance, while the House is vanity and vainglory, Lucifera is the “superbia” pride while the House is the “vanagloria” pride) is even reflected in a sort of bizarre “competition” that is sets between the two. Indeed, when we see Lucifera sitting on her throne… The poet sarcastically describes how both the throne and the queen on it shine brightly, and they glitter and sparkle so much as if “the blaze of the glorious throne” and the blaze of the queen herself tried to “dim each other”. Pride will always be the most envious and jealous of itself…
After spending some times inside the House, we follow Lucifera as she leaves her castle and takes her coach by the road. The coach is just as luxurious and glittering and blazing as the House and the queen, since it is all of “gold and garlands”. And again, we have explicit mythological comparisons: Lucifera, with all those flowers around her, make her look like “Flora in her prime”… But she actually tries to imitate and surpass another goddess – Juno, aka Hera, queen of the gods and the heavens. The parallel is even reinforced by the presence of peacock feathers on the chariot. “Argus’ eyes”, on one side, the mythological emblems of Juno/Hera… But also the common symbol of vanity and pride, the peacock being considered THE bird of this sin.
And if it was not clear enough that this was an EVIL queen, the coachman of Lucifera, the one holding the whip… Is said to be none other than Satan himself. Aka THE actual Christian Devil, THE Great Fiend himself who gleefully leads queen Lucifera wherever she wants to go. And whips the six other sins to ride faster… Because, as I said before – Lucifera’s chariot is not pulled by horses… But by her six “sage counsellors/old wizards”, aka the other deadly sins. However, since this post is already getting quite long, I’ll keep them for another time.

Opening Lines
Tagged by @itscometothis!
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (or however many you have) posted fics and see if there’s a pattern!
THE GLORIANA SET The station was empty—a small stretch of wooden platform and a stone, peaked-roof building and a creaking sign: HOGSMEADE.
THE SOULMATE TEST It was a rare clear night in London, with a full moon so large that one could read a drink menu by its light.
THE MALFOY MISTRESS “Well, that’s strange.” “It’s kissing, Granger. You’ll get used to it.”
THE DARKWOOD WAND Draco Malfoy was harsh and cold and hated by all. And Draco was fine with this.
A CLOCK WITH NO NUMBERS The cat by the toaster purred so loudly that Hermione couldn’t think.
DARCY THE NAZGUL London Bragg stood in front of his fifth-grade class and opened his folder.
AUGUREY PARK (unposted WIP) The second I landed in Britain, I immediately fell on the floor.
REGULUS/HERMIONE WIP (unposted) Was a house elf really worth all this trouble? First, I really like three-word titles. Secondly, my first lines tend to establish the setting and hopefully narrator's personality. I don't usually agonize over my first lines or try to write a "grab 'em immediately" kind of opening. I usually just open up the story: here we are, at the station or on the roof deck or next to the toaster and let's begin. Reading these, it strikes me that my openings are often very ordinary, which might be because the stories themselves turn out fantastical, so let's start out ordinary and layer in the magic. I like to ease my way into the story, usually, just starting out with the single person and exploring what happens next. Then things start to gear up, and the pace picks up, and off we go! My two favorite opening lines, The Darkwood Wand and the Regulus/Hermione story, show character above all. Draco is lying to himself from that those first sentences, setting himself up as an unreliable narrator. And Regulus is purposely downplaying the heroism of his sacrifice to defeat Voldemort, triggered by the Dark Lord's use of his house elf.

Anti-Chronicles – The Major Players
This is a list of every major character from my WIP Anti-Chronicles. These are characters that serve as the point of view of different chapters, or are historically significant, politically significant or narratively significant. Each entry on this list comes with a short description, a link to their general tag on my Tumblr, and any links to playlists or Pinterest boards if they have them. These lists will be organised into two sections; Bronze Eden and Nod. A third section, called Beyond, may be added in the future.
In the cases where a character features significantly in excerpts and appears regularly in this blog, a separate, more extensive character profile will be written as a separate post and linked to here. This would be to keep track of all the excerpts they appear in and the narrative they're following, as well as a more thorough description and potentially self-drawn or commissioned artwork.
Taglist for Anti-Chronicles (ask to be + / -); @digital-chance, @solipseismic, @sengawolf
List continues under the cut.
Bronze Eden
Potentate Magnus
God-King of Bronze Eden, his power is absolute. The Potenate Magnus is the single most powerful man in Bronze Eden with complete control over everything that happens. Over 100 years old and with multiple children, his reign seems immortal, impossible to imagine a Bronze Eden without it. Married four times, his third wife Gloriana staged a failed coup against him some years ago and since then he and his family have become extremely reclusive, relying on spokespeople to deliver the doctrines of the Potentate Dynasty. Mask: ivory and gold, eyeless that seems to render him blind, with giant elk-like antlers of gold with precious jewels and metal flowers hanging down.
pinterest board
Potentate Augustus
The Potentate Primus of the Empyrean's Church, Augustus has supreme power over the church, the only religious body left in Bronze Eden. He is the second most powerful Potentate in Eden, second only to his father, Magnus. As his first born son, Augustus is next in line for the throne. He has only one son of his own from before he took his Primus vows and became celibate, the Potentate Orsete. He is also the only son of Magnus' first marriage to Maria, who died in childbirth. Mask: ivory and gold, eyeless like his father's, but with golden halos above his head rather than antlers.
Potentate Boris
The Potentate Boris is the second born son of the Potentate Magnus, set to inherent the responsibilities of the business and financial sectors of Bronze Eden, before tragically taking his own life at age 22. Childless and unmarried, he has been canonised as a saint following his untimely death. Mask: simple black resembling a face, but heavily angular, almost cubist.
Potentate Salvatore
In charge of the arts and education sectors of Bronze Eden, the Potentate Salvatore is one of the most influencial people in Bronze Eden. The segregated education system between the wealthy and the poor is due to him. The propaganda inciting fear of Nod and Nod customs is due to him. Particularly passionate about theatre, he as an exaggerated public persona that hides the cruel streak in him. Mask: ivory and gold, resembling a horned demon with a warped grimacing face, designed to provoke and outrage.
Potentate Felipe
The fourth son of the Potentate Magnus and the last child of his second marriage to Penelope, who died of flu while 4 months pregnant with her fourth child. He is the Seraph of the army of Bronze Eden, the supreme authority in all internal security and external war efforts in Bronze Eden, second only to his father. Under his guidance, anything to do with Nod has been heavily criminalised in Eden, punishable by death. Mask: ivory and gold, ram-like with unwieldly large horns.
Potentate Clymene
The fifth child and only daughter of the Potentate Magnus, Clymene is charismatic and beloved, making the most consistent public appearances of the family. The first child of his wife Gloriana, Clymene was separated from the rest of her family during the coup, and continues to hold secrets her mother divulged to nobody else. She was once set to inherent the medical sector of Bronze Eden, but traded responsibilities with her younger brother, the Potentate Zephyr. A shrewd scientist, she often attends conventions where she is most commonly scene. Like her younger brother, she is recognisable for her shocking red hair. Mask: a very simple and practical black mask, but often wears extravagant broadbrimmed hats with tassels and viels to give the illusion of more detail and glamour.
pinterest board
Potentate Zephyr
The youngest Potentate, Zephyr is closest to his sister, and extremely reclusive to everyone else. Magnus reportedly barely knows his name. Unlike the rest of his family, Zephyr is not particularly ambitious nor power-hungry, preferring to keep to the shadows or by his sister's side. Unlike Clymene, he has very few memories of his mother Gloriana, as he was born during the coup. Often disappears from the Temple of Eden for random periods. Rumoured to be an alchoholic. Mask: black plague-doctor esque.
pinterest board
Potentate Louis
Second grandchild of the Potentate Magnus, he is largely insignificant and unimportant. His father being the Potentate Felipe, he has a militaristic mindset. Paranoid, but scientific, he is particularly involved in the developing war technology of Bronze Eden. Following his kidnapping, he becomes a powerful bargaining chip for Nod as the conflict mounts. Mask: ivory and gold, hawklike, feathers decorating his head.
playlist
Singularity
The Singularity is the direct voice of the God-King, delivering his doctrines and speeches to the people of Eden, often representing him at meetings and events. The current Singularity has become an increasingly common sight in Bronze Eden, as the God-King becomes more and more reclusive as the war mounts. Mask: covers the entire face, blind and mouthless, gold, ivory and red, with a half-halo behind the head that is part of the collar of the clothes.
Ed Edwards
Dr Ed Edwards was once a heavyweight boxing champion, but recently made a career change into nuclear physics. He becomes one of the most prominent figures in Bronze Eden during the war with Nod, specialising in nuclear bombs. Standing at 233 cm or 7'8, he is a physical force to be reckoned with, and is never seen without his assistant, Niles Clarke. Mask: gold and leather respirator mask, very simple and no-nonsence in design. Comes with goggles.
pinterest board / playlist
Sal Solomon
A close partner of Ed Edwards, Sal Solomon is often forgotten from history, but remains a vital contributor to the war effort against Nod. Once a laughing stock of the scientific community for his wild and unproven theories, he is one of the most trusted advisors to the Potentate dynasty, with a pure scientific perspective on things, no matter how many people that may get hurt or die as a result of his inventions. Mask: Golden skull.
pinterest board / playlist
Imperator V
One of the Imperators of Bronze Eden, Imperator V takes his role as one of the divine defenders of the city very seriously. Mute, he is used to being objectified by most that meet him, who rarely know sign language. A gentle giant at heart, Imperator V nontheless is no stranger to violence and will not hesitate to employ it when necessary. Mask: in the shape of many hands, covering his entire head and partially clasped over his eyes and his mouth.
pinterest board / playlist
Imperator O
Another Imperator of Bronze Eden, Imperator O is notable for being the Imperator most commonly told off by the priests of Bronze Eden for her overuse of force and violence when apprehending and liberating people. Stout, wielding a warhammer, she is the second most feared Imperator in Bronze Eden, second only to Imperator III. Mask: a solid bronze boar head with hornes that exhales smoke through it's nostrils when she breathes.
Imperator III
Known as the perfect Imperator, Imperator III is truly a sight to behold. White and shiny, he truly encapsulates the idea of being the Righteous Fist of the Empyrean. The giant claymore he wields is called the Word of the Empyrean, golden with a pulsating white orb where it is thickest towards the base. No matter how many people he slaughters, his white, angelic armour remains clean. Even his fellow Imperators and the Priests of Eden are terrified of him. Mask: white, with many halos surrounding the head like many wheels, eyeless and mouthless.
pinterest board
Sylvester Praeceptor
The youngest of the Praeceptor family, Sylvester was born out of desperation of his father when the rest of his siblings proved improper to inherit the family legacy. By the time he was just becoming a man, his father had been arrested for fraud. Luckily, the family fortunes were about to change as Sylvester went to university and became a doctor, eventually creating the small respiratory filters found in most designed masks in Bronze Eden. Intelligent, manipulative, shrewd, his father can at least be grateful his last son proved a success... so long as Sylvester keeps certain things hidden. Mask: a ceramic, gold and ruby mask in a contorted grin, resembling the Thalia, to match Jules Praeceptor's Melpomene.
pinterest board / playlist
Nod
Ucalegon
One of the freedom fighters of Nod, Ucalegon is just old enough to remember the Nod from before the war with Bronze Eden and now attempts to avenge what was lost. Yet despite her fighting for Nod, she always keeps her own goals in mind, even when they appear contradictory. She prefers to speak in metaphorical terms rather than directly, to confuse and lead astray. Quick, brutal, exacting, and intelligent, she is all a Nod freedom fighter would want to be–and yet has a soft spot for one of the Potentates, whom she has sworn to make extinct.
pinterest board / playlist
Dahra
Another freedom fighter of Nod, Dahra was once a young girl living in Bronze Eden with her working class family. She lived a rough but ultimately loving and fulfilling life, until her parents were murdered by an Imperator on suspicion of being Nod sympathisers. Now, Dahra is an emotionally damaged and volatile young woman, in a myriad of tumultuous relationships who has started to seek out the defenders of Nod, to extract her revenge for the death of her family. She has a lot to learn however, and she is not as good as an actor as she may think.
playlist
Lady Jezebel
The voice of Nod, Lady Jezebel runs the most popular radio station on Nod, reaching all three major cities and keeping everyone up to date on the latest news of all things, from the political affairs in Bronze Eden to the mundane stories of normality in Nod. She also provides music to the people of Nod, no sound too obscure, no genre left unturned. Despite her fame among the people of Nod, her true identity remains unknown, with nobody even being sure where she broadcasts from. Despite these questions, she remains a fundamental part of the Nod culture, bringing so many together with her voice and music.
Object of Faith
A mysterious figure in Nod, Object of Faith is secluded from most, with only their old friend Ucalegon and the young fighter Cerebellum visiting them often. A collector of clockwork, Object of Faith seems to have been changed permanently from the time rifts that have opened up all around Nod, no longer quite tethered to the same mortal plane as everyone else. They often go fishing in the time rifts, which has led to them being a well-known source of strange weaponary and items that come from these rifts, despite their strange and unsettling disposition.
Vítor Cadogan
Vítor is very well known in his home city of Golden Glimpse in Nod, having once been the city's very own vigilante superhero, the Golden Gladiator, to tackle the city's issues of gang activity and warfare. Now a good deal older and wiser, he has become more known for running an agency to help and support the same disenfranchised young people he once fought as a superhero so many years ago. Partially out of guilt, Vítor will do anything to protect the children under his protection, even if it means leaving the shadow of the city he has dedicated his life to for so long, even if it means keeping secrets close to his chest.
pinterest board / playlist
Saccade
A long time ago, Saccade was happy. She had a family, a child, and lived a difficult but ultimately joyous life in Rhapsody. Like most people, the war with Bronze Eden came with heavy losses, and now Saccade resides in Neo-Babylon, the radioactive wasteland of a city that is the most dangerous place in Nod, as a mercenary and detective for hire. Despite her age and her bad leg, she is still a force to be reckoned with, unafraid to punch out whover needs punching out, or at least whoever she's being paid to punch out. Despite her new lifestyle and all her effort though, her ethics haven't quite been crushed out of her, as she will soon learn when Vítor Cadogan comes to hire her.

The Undark
Nowhere else in Nod was ravaged by radioactivity quite like Neo-Babylon, where a power station was sabotaged and exploded, unleashing the cloud of Brume that lingers over the city like a toxic blanket. As a result, the people that were not killed by the disease have become strange, mutated, with their bodies growing in strange and grotesque ways, and occasionally even developing bizarre powers. These people have become known as the Undark, and often live together in the most dangerous places of Neo-Babylon, right by the shoreline where the Brume lays the thickest. They are also referred to as Glow-Boys, or Sponges.
Hendrix
One of the leaders of the Undark, Hendrix lives with his people in one of the many abandoned ocean liners in Neo-Babylon. Modelling himself after a pirate, Hendrix has a larger than life personality befitting of the captain he wants to be, who has amassed a reputation for his ruthlessness and impulsivity. While he usually keeps himself covered, underneath his impressive blue justacorps is a body covered in bizarre and spreading shell-growth, barnacles and coral slowly taking over his body. Black-market painkillers are a common import into his ocean-liner because of this. His own body slowly becoming more shell than man isn't the only effect the radiation has had on his body, but everything else is kept strictly private and secret.

Diomede
A former leader of the Vagor, the nomadic people who wander around Nod, Diomede has been exiled from his community for reasons he hasn't told anyone yet. Like most Vagor, he is a heavily proficient weaponsmith, but prefers to sort things out diplomaticly when possible. As a leader, his capacity for diplomacy and violence in equal measure was one of his most admired traits, but was less capable as a strategist. Once was known for being more friendly and personable than most of the Vagor, he has since become very reclusive and lonely following his exile, becoming increasingly reckless to try and earn the death refused to him in his exile. The Shimmerfolk
Before the war with Bronze Eden and the collapse of the Nod economy, a common pasttime for the wealthy of Nod was to gain cybernetic enhancements, to prolong their lives and to act as fashion accessories. This reckless spending of their money on something for the sake of aesthetics while many of those injured in Bronze Eden attacks recieved nothing resulted in these people being hated by the majority of Nod, for their wealth and greed. Now, the few left of these people operate in hiding, exclusively looking out for their own interests and having little interest in the war above for the most part. The Shimmerfolk as we know them are Harlow, Kelly, Reveré, Bela and Nicolau.
