DuckTales Character Songs! (Part 3)
Okay, you should hopefully know the drill by now. So today, I’ll be highlighting characters that debuted in Season 2, and choosing songs that I think best fit them.
For whatever reason, I did not think of doing this last week, but if you want to look back at my previous songs, here are the links to the first two parts:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 2, continued
And again, shout-out to @glowyjellyfish for brainstorming help.
Fethry Duck
Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin
What better song to match with Donald’s marine biology-loving cousin? Even though Fethry has his head in the clouds most of the time, his heart belongs to the ocean. Even if living in an underwater research lab isn’t the most ideal of conditions, Fethry makes it work.
Zan Owlson
Woman by Kesha (feat. The Dap-Kings Horns)
As the old adage goes, Owlson is a strong, independent woman who don’t need no man. She took over Glomgold’s company for him after he was stricken with amnesia. She probably makes plenty of money out of it. She works hard, and she’s good at what she does.
José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles
The Three Caballeros by Clarence Nash, José Oliveira, and Joaquin Garay from The Three Caballeros
Because of course.
The Three Ghosts of Christmas
Past, Present and Future by Emility
The lyrics do a good job of summing up what each of the three ghosts traditionally represent.
Lieutenant Penumbra
Power by Little Mix
This song is big, badass, bombastic, and screams female empowerment. It’s absolutely perfect for Penny.
General Lunaris
Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival
It’s not just because the song has the word “moon” in the title. It’s also kind of a metaphor for Lunaris being basically a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and for the invasion that he enacted that led to the final battle of Season 2.
Violet Sabrewing
Killer Queen by Queen
Violet is an absolute enigma of a character. She’s smart, serious, intense, has a couple major hyperfixations, and is super blunt; she can be hard to read, but whoever she lets into her inner circle, she is steadfast loyal and supportive of them, as we’ve seen in episodes like Friendship Hates Magic! or Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchucks! (even though we totally should’ve gotten more elaboration from the latter episode on her relationship with Huey). Okay, getting off track. The point is, this song kind of explains how with Violet, there is more than meets the eye. There’s more complexity to her than the casual fan might think.
John D. Rockerduck
Money, Money, Money by ABBA
We don’t know a whole lot about Rockerduck in the show, other than that he’s a super rich capitalist. So…money.
Gandra Dee
No Roots by Alice Merton
I think the tone and lyrics of the song really fit Gandra’s rebellious nature. Gandra doesn’t like being tied down to one place. She’s mysterious, with a complicated past. And I think this song sums that up well.
Drake Mallard
Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson
“If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.” Drake’s a down-on-his-luck actor, trying to make an impact. But Launchpad ultimately taught him that the biggest possible impact that he could make in life is helping others. And that inspired him to take up the mantle of his childhood hero and become the terror that flaps in the night, the combination lock on the vaults of justice, Darkwing Duck. And this classic MJ track mails the point home beautifully.

ABOUT:
Sonja Cannon was an executive at WIXB. She interviewed both Eric and Arthur for the intern position at the station, and was very impressed with Arthur. She wasn't as impressed with Eric, as she thought that Eli Williams had sent her the resumé as a joke. Also, Eric sweat a lot during the interview and kept using "really really" before adjectives. She even admitted her intention to not hire Eric.
The Ghost of Christmas Future appears to Cory after he falls asleep watched "A Christmas Carol" on TV following a disagreement with Topanga. Because he looks just like Feeny, Cory calls him Feeny.

"Oh Scrooge is hot!" "Oh Later Never Comes is amazing!!!" I'd like to see someone talk about the fact that Netflix straight up made the Ghosts freaking Disney characters???
Past is Rafiki, Present is Genie/Cave of Wonders and Future very loosely reminded me of Te Ka (and the little fire gremlins looked so much like Stitch it probably wasn't a coincidence)

Just dreamt about a version of A Christmas Carol where Scrooge was the CEO of a modern-day toy company and the ghosts were all living toys. I don't remember what the other ones were but The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come was represented by a collection of googly eyes of various sizes arranged in a haphazard position that would instantly materialise on surfaces with the pupils shaking making a loud CLACK noise as the ghost appeared above whatever the spirit was trying to show Scrooge.
The vision started off pretty much the same where Scrooge hears people talking about how they don't care about his death without naming him but figured out pretty quickly they were talking about him and was taken to his gravestone instantly afterwards.
Right then, by the graveyard, there passed a train; it was an electric train but made a noise that sounded like a cross between a steam train and a ghostly wail. Scrooge then found himself on the train where he saw a woman he knew - I don't think it was meant to be the Belle equivalent though - and just looking at her made him realise she had forgotten him. Right above the woman, stuck on the train window, was a single googly eye.
The train then took Scrooge to a toy fair where he found out that his company's toylines had fallen into obscurity and I think that was the end of the vision.

What was the point of Scrooge's trip with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come? On a structural level, it makes sense--three is the fairy tale number, and you can't visit the past and present without also including the future--but on a character level, it doesn't quite seem necessary. Showing a man that he'll die alone, unloved, and unmourned seems like the strategy you take as the last-ditch effort to convince a guy that he needs to change his ways. But that situation doesn't apply to Scrooge. He started softening immediately after he first arrived in his past. By the time he finished with the Ghost of Christmas Present, he was fully onboard with the need to reform, so the Ghost's vision of his future seems like unnecessary cruelty. Why show him all this when he was already planning to change his ways?
A few things come to mind. One is that this vision of the future wouldn't have affected Scrooge unless he had already changed his ways. A cold, hard businessman could have seen his lonely death as just the way of the world, might have viewed the people who stole the clothes from his corpse as just people doing what's practical in this world. He needed to relearn the value of the intangibles--human connection, respect for others--to see the true horror of the lonely death and the vultures who defiled the dead man.
But why the horror? Can't he reform without being threatened with doom? It's possible--but it's also possible such a reform would be temporary. After all, Scrooge started as a friendly, loving young man, but retreated into himself and his business out of fear of poverty and fear of the way the world looks down upon poor people. Even if a reformed Scrooge started on a course of Christmas charity, there was always a chance that the enthusiasm would fade, and the worldly fears would start creeping back in. The only way to beat those fears is to give him something to fear that's even worse than poverty. He needs to see the horrible end that his selfish ways would lead to, so he won't be tempted to slide back into them.
There's also the fact that seeing his death makes him ecstatically happy to find that he's alive after the Ghost is gone. Had Scrooge been spared the vision of his future, he might have been happy to find himself on Christmas Day, but his joy would have been nowhere near the manic glee he experiences after coming back from the future. Now, he doesn't just get a new start--he gets a second chance. Coming back from his own grave makes him mindful of his death, but it also makes him hyperaware of the fact that he's still alive. He isn't in the ground yet. He still has time to do good and make connections with others so he doesn't die alone.
Seeing the past reminded him of the innocence he'd lost. Seeing the present reminded him of the people whose lives he was missing out on. Seeing the future reminded him that death is waiting, so it's important to live virtuously while we can. All three are important because all three brought him outside of himself and taught him to value the wider world, just in time to live through another Christmas Day.

What are the three ghosts of Christmas like in the other world canon. I believe jacob Marley worked tooth and nail to get them to help Scrooge and Is the ghost of Christmas yet to come an aspect of death
Tumblr media
I call them the "Three Santas" in my Otherworld canon.
The Ghost of Christmas Past is the spirit of Saint Lucy, chosen due to her association with light and sight, as well as her holiday being in mid-December.
The Ghost of Christmas Present was always going to be obvious. Dickens based him on Father Christmas, an English folk figure that evolved from pagan traditions who later merged with Saint Nicholas.
And finally, keeping with the theme of choosing saints, it only made sense I find one that personified death in some fashion in order to represent the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. The mexican folk saint Santa Meurte seemed like a perfect, albeit somewhat out of place, fit.

Heya. It's Kreestmass Eve. You're probably feeling a lot right now. Good and bad. I want you to sit with those feelings. Sit with them for a good 20 minutes or an hour if you need it. Comb through them, address their concerns, break bread with them, etc.
When your time is up, look them in the eye and say "this was a pleasant time. We addressed a lot, and now it's time for me to go. If y'all are still feeling worried, we can book another hour later today or tomorrow, but not right now."
Then I want you to practice some self care. Whatever that looks like for you. Get to your good. Nothing else matters. Not your obligations to a holiday or whatever preconceived expectations others have for you. You matter.
I love you.
It's going to be okay.
We're gonna be okay.
I'm going to give myself a chocolate mustache with my hot cocoa and pretend I'm a dignified gentleman of great importance and speak in a terrible English Cockney accent. I hope you join me because you're also a dignified gentleman of great importance (with a better Cockney accent to boot...). Even when your feelings tell you otherwise.
Remember, there is no obligation. You don't owe anyone anything (...but I do think you'd look rather dashing with a chocolate mustache. Just sayin'. *cough*).
*kisses your forehead*
Merry Chrysler, honey. I'm overjoyed because you're still here 💙🫂
