i might end up making a side blog dedicated to the good doctor

anyway here are a few reasons i love it so much.

yes the autism representation is good. there are some incredibly subtle representations of autism that are represented that aren't brought up even in autism centric spaces much and that fact makes me incredibly happy (for example, i don't see a lot of discussion about shutdowns, but as someone who experiences shutdowns more than meltdowns, seeing an autistic character shutdown because he's overstimulated, then see another character refer to it as "falling apart" made me feel represented because it can feel like you're falling apart, and from the outside, it looks like you're falling apart). like at the very least i feel represented.

i swear to god lea has adhd. shaun and lea give me audhd couple vibes and i love it. at the absolute least, lea is definitely not neurotypical.

the good doctor made me want to pursue a medical career again. not just "oh, something like bioengineering where i'd be working in the medical field would be super fun!!" no. i want to get a bachelor's in biology, go to medical school, and do a residency in either neurology or surgery (possibly something else, i'm not entirely sure yet). if i can get some structure in my life and find a place to live in salt lake city (where they have a university that doubles as a med school and a teaching/research hospital) i can absolutely start the journey to being a doctor at an actual hospital as soon as next fall.

im learning about actual conditions i didnt know about. did you know theres a real congenital deformity of the spinal cord that leads to your spinal cord being split in half at a certain point, leading to what basically results in two functional spinal cords? or that your heart can develop outside the ribcage, and protrude outside the chest? or that just getting a surgery, no matter how sterile the operating room and surgical tools are, can give you sepsis, because cutting you open can leave you vulnerable to bacteria regardless of sterility of the surgical environment due to the bacteria inside your body (risk goes up depending on the surgery; for example, your risk for sepsis goes up if you get surgery on your intestines for obvious reasons)?

theres what i perceive to be a realistic balance between personal experience/empathy and objective medical knowledge when it comes to the doctors in the good doctor. for example, morgan not wanting to fuck up a patient's chances of playing violin in the future, and this resulting in the patient's arm getting amputated. on the other hand, shaun's objectiveness means in that same situation, he was trying to convince morgan to do testing, something she was hesitant to do. i think that experience helped morgan find a middle ground between being empathetic and being practical about what tests and such she needs to do in the future; as melendez tells her, one day, she will kill a patient. all doctors eventually do; mistakes are made, surgical errors are made, signs and symptoms are missed, things get misdiagnosed, and a patient dies. i feel like that's a very grim reality in medicine that people don't like to acknowledge (especially people who practice medicine) and adds some realism to the good doctor that isn't seen much in shows centered around anything medical. it's something i'll have to accept if i do decide to go into medicine. yes, the goal is to save people; but i can't save everyone, and in my career i will almost be guaranteed to make mistakes that result in someone dying. the earlier i can accept that (before residency is best), the better off i'll be as a doctor, no matter what specialty i decide to go into.

most of shaun's colleagues are super accommodating when it comes to shaun's autism. it's just a detail i appreciate. they also figure out what helps him out of meltdowns/shutdowns fairly fast, which is another thing i can appreciate.

Hi! This is for the Pokemon SwSh matchup trade! Here’s my description, I’ll get started on yours asap!

I’m 20 years old with Autism, ADHD and a couple other health issues like weak bones and scoliosis. I’m really short, only like 5’ at most, with really long fluffy and wavy brown hair. My two favorite hairstyles to do are either a legolas-style pulled back half ponytail (I don’t know how to describe it…) or two braids, or else I just leave my hair down naturally. I also wear glasses and am very slender, and pretty toned since I work out.

I’d probably be an Electric Type trainer who also doubles as a researcher of some kind. I can see myself working as a professor’s assistant or as a librarian in their lab since I work at a library irl.

I’m a really fun person with a witty and sometimes dirty sense of humor, though I’m also very sweet and polite. I enjoy drawing and cannot stop writing for the life of me. And I write really fast too, I once finished an entire nonfiction book in a week on vacation. My entire life is on fastforward a lot of the time because I can be impatient and am incredibly driven, so I often push myself a little too hard sometimes. I get flustered easily but don’t have a hard time connecting with people, I’m really not afraid to go up to others and ask for things. Whenever I do get flustered I tend to cover my face with my hands and giggle a lot. I also have a weird habit of calling people endearments like “honey” and “sweetie” at random.

My friends say I have a very warm, inviting energy that draws people in. I’m the kind of person who can quite literally make friends with anybody. I’ve been told I feel like home and am very endearing. I would do anything for my loved ones, even recklessly sacrificing myself or my happiness for them. It’s hard for me to put myself first most of the time. I hate making people feel bad and really just want to be helpful a lot of the time. I’m also always a little overprepared for every situation and have a hard time accepting and believing compliments.

I’m very soft but have been called argumentative before. Like I said I hate making people feel bad, but once you’ve lost my trust, it’s insanely hard to get it back. And if you insult someone I care about, there’s no mercy tbh. So sweet, but fierce when provoked.

♡ The man was too stunned to speak, but he eventually was able to ask you to continue your explanation as he listened to every word

♡ By the end he was helping you clean up when he finally asked you out to coffee

♡ One date turned to another, and another, and another until you two started dating

♡ You two have a lot of stay-in dates, you'll try out new hairstyles on each other, draw random things in the house, sometimes he'll even just sit and watch you write

♡ He could watch you do anything for hours, he is so smitten

♡ You would defend him whenever internet trolls insult him

♡ That you scared the life out of him, but he loved watching you get protective

♡ He made a promise to himself to be all that you are to him ten-fold

♡ If you need him he will always be there

Meet my MC!

I’m so down bad with Obey Me that I made a reference sheet for my MC! Which I’m not really counting as an OC because let’s face it..

It’s literally just another version of me- However I love him and would die for him.

I have absolutely zero idea how the pact marks are supposed to look but in my mind, they each relate to something about each brother, and colour match of course. For example, Lucifer’s pact mark is shaped like the diamond on his forehead or Beel’s pact mark being a sun while Belphie’s is a star with a crescent moon. They were really fun to design though! ^_^

Now have some random things about my boy!

He’s around 5’8 in height.

He dyed his hair around mid-way through his teen years and has been dyeing it ever since.

He has in fact had top surgery yet despite that and his semi-muscular build, he’s rarely seen without a shirt even in hot weather.

His bracelet was gifted to him by Diavolo (as seen in the “Surprise fo you” Event) and he now refuses to take it off. Ever.

He thinks the human realm is pretty boring in comparison to the Devildom and straight up lives there most of the time. He’s better friends with demons anyway.

Him and Levi will have 1 night every other week of binge watching anime and playing video games, he’s exhausted the next day, but it’s a worthy sacrifice.

He somehow accidentally walked in on Lucifer preening his wings one evening. After watching Lucifer struggle with a couple feathers and laughing just a small bit, he just waltzed over and started preening his wings for him. Let’s just say Lucifer froze like a deer in headlights and vaguely threatened him not to breathe a word about him needing help. He was secretly enjoying the attention though-

As thanks and partly in an attempt to show affection, Lucifer bought him the feather pendant he now wears. And like Diavolo’s bracelet he never takes the damn thing off. Much to the Avatar of Pride’s satisfaction.

He suffers with high-functioning autism, ADHD and anxiety.

He’s not a huge fan of reading, mostly because his ADHD won’t let him focus for more than 5 minutes without thinking about something funny that happened literally months ago.

How does he bond with Satan you ask? Cats. And occasionally partaking in a prank on Lucifer- Because he’s a menace-

He doesn’t trust Solomon, he’ll get along with him just fine but he just gives off some bad vibes man-

He has 5 piercings in total. A helix and lobe on both ears and a septum.

He takes a lot of photos of the brothers, mainly at just the right moment so whatever they’re doing looks cursed as hell.

Him and Mammon bully each other constantly, everyday they hurl new and creative insults at each other, but at the end of the day they know each other are joking and will always be best buddies.

After the events with Belphie, whenever Belphie wishes for him to do something he’ll hit em with “But you murdered me remember?” He’s joking of course but the expression on Belphie’s face is worth it every time.

And yes, when he’s feeling particularly like pushing some buttons, he’ll do that to Lucifer too. Again all in jest, but the response is golden.

During the events of the RAD halloween event, he found it really hard not to find Satan and Lucifer incredibly attractive even with his life in actual danger. Again. This is one secret he’ll take to his grave.

He lets Asmo do his nails and listens to him gossip about all the latest goings on.

He rarely sleeps in his actual bed. The amount of times various brothers have found him completely crashed on the couch is alarming.

He likes cooking with Barbatos and Luke, it’s a total change of pace to being in the kitchen at HoL.

Diavolo once invited him out without Lucifer and he was so smug about it.

Sometimes the brothers can be a little too overwhelming for him, especially when he’s on the verge of a meltdown. He’ll start pacing around HoL until he can find somewhere calmer, which usually ends up being Lucifer’s study. And sometimes on really bad days, Lucifer will put on a cursed record and throw his coat over him to allow him to reset.

He finds himself listening to music boxes quite often, the softer sounding tunes relaxing him, sometimes to the point of sleep.

Being an artist he has a ton of sketchbooks, one of which is full of different drawings of all the people he knows; The angels, Solomon, Diavolo, Barbatos and the brothers. Demon forms and everything. He never shows them though, and is constantly fighting to keep his sketchbooks hidden from some of the more “curious” brothers.

He also takes commissions both from the Devildom and the human realm, Asmo has requested more than a dozen already.

He sees Luke like a little brother.

Sometimes he’ll sneak down to the Underground Tomb, not to cause mischief or steal a grimoire but to pet Cerberus.

50. Favourite Song / Part Of The OST

Ooh, I think I’m going to be boring and say that I’m a sucker for Wuji. But I also have only been through the OST in a very ad hoc manner, and I’m terrible at paying attention to soundtracks while I’m watching things. I have very much enjoyed all of the songs I’ve listened to, and I want to go back through and listen more, but I... have not followed through on that yet. I also ADORE all of the incidental demonic flute music that happens in the show, but I do need to find that music in... isolation, without visuals, because it hurts me as a musician to see how hard the fingers don’t match what’s happening XD

But Wuji is just GORGEOUS. Might have bought a couple-three instruments, driven a lot because of force of this song. MIGHT have a dizi instructional video bookmarked, just for purposes of learning this song. And... I might have messed around on recorders, an instrument I’m much more familiar with, figuring out how to play this song XDDDDD (the trouble is that none of my recorders are all that fancy, and hitting the high notes cleanly is difficult on a not-fancy recorder)

42. Favourite Female Character

HM. Hmm. This is a tough competition between Jiang Yanli and Wen Qing, but I do think I’m going to have to come down narrowly on Wen Qing’s side. She’s just... so great. I love a sweet big sister, but I also love a mean big sister, especially since she’s also extremely sweet in her own way. I think after reading just the book, I would have tipped in Jiang Yanli’s direction, but after the show...

But both of them were acted so well in the show too!!! Jiang Yanli doesn’t let me down in any way, I think I’m just a sucker for Wen Qing, because I love seeing Jiang Yanli taking care of Wei Wuxian, but I love even more seeing Wen Qing bully him and take care of him. Jiang Yanli is an angel, and I want all the best things for her, but I really do love ladies with even sharp edges.

6. Favourite Ship

Also a surprisingly tough question. MAN. All of the mxtx books spoil me, because I’m used to shipping things that are never ever going to become the center of a story, and then I get given ships I adore, and start grubbing around looking for even more food to add to my plate :P This story, though...

So here are the competitors: Wangxian, 3zun, and Xuexiao. This is a REALLY tight competition, but let me try to think through this. (I also feel compelled to mention that chengning is one of my favorite new things, and the ship that has me the most :eyes: at the end of canon, but i haven’t wormed my way deep enough into it to make it a real competitor)

I think... first, I’ll have to eliminate 3zun. It’s an emotionally loaded ship, which I love, and Lan Xichen is eminently lovable, but the other two players are loading this in such a way that it becomes incredibly difficult to resolve things happily, but it’s a very... quiet sort of tragedy, one that leaves me feeling more hollow than anything. Xuexiao, on the other hand, is a tragedy that ends with a BANG, and when it’s not a tragedy, it’s filled with delicious tension and the potential for things to take a sudden horrible turn. If it’s happy, I love it, and if it’s tragic, it’s the kind of tragedy I can spend an evening sighing over.

But I do think I’m going to have to ultimately come down in favor of wangxian. After spending so much time in ensemble cast fandoms, I’m really not used to having my favorite pair at the center of the story! I feel boring, but this ship really has EVERYTHING. I’m here for the tragedy of how things ended, and the unbelievable miracle of being reunited after everything was lost. I’m SO here for the way that tragedy informs Lan Wangji’s changed approach to Wei Wuxian the second time around (give me the same relationship remix for xuexiao, you cowards), and everything to be said about being offered unconditional love and acceptance after resigning yourself to the fact that there’s no place for you in this world. I’m always, always here for an autism/adhd solidarity ship, especially with how well they understand each other, and the way Wei Wuxian rolls with Lan Wangji’s minimally-verbal vibes. I’m really passionate about music and it’s so exciting to see the main characters being musicians together without it being the central defining factor in their relationship. I love every flavor of devotion-despite-separation-and-despair that mxtx offers me, and this was the first one I sampled, and it made an IMPRESSION. I’m going to cut myself off here, because I could ramble for paragraphs, but this ship just warms me from the inside out, on all kinds of different levels
