hello. it’s me again who asked for the ripped paper tutorial. i can’t wait to try it out later!! are you able to make a tutorial on how you put the text on the ripped paper? thank you so much ☺️

hello! sure! i'll explain how i made the ripped paper effect from this gifset in more details under the cut 😊 (it’s a different method than what i did on my previous tutorial here)

i apologize in advance for my lack of coherence, i’m not always the best at explaining stuff, especially not in english haha

first things first: make your gif, color it, sharpen it etc etc, and put all of it's layers in a group. i called mine “blended gifs”. oh and make sure you are in timeline mode, not frame animation!

then you want to import the ripped paper texture(s) you want to use onto your canvas and position them the way you want them to be on top of your gif, like this:

(i am using these textures for most of this gifset)

what you want to do next is create a mask of this torn up area so the gif layers only show up around the "hole". to do that, select the texture layer and press "ctrl" while clicking on the texture's thumbnail. this will create a selection of your ripped paper texture (you'll see a flashing dotted line showing your selection).

btw: the ctrl + click method works only if the image/texture has transparency like this texture does.

[if you want yo create your own torn/ripped shape with 2 or more textures, you can place them on top of each other and create a mask by doing ctrl + selecting the thumbnail of the first one, then while still holding ctrl, also hold the shift key and click on the second texture’s thumbnail (and the third, fourth, etc). this will add the shapes to the same selection and then you can create one layer mask with all of the shapes selected together.]

with that selection still active, you want to select your gif's folder you created earlier and click on the add layer mask button.

this will create a mask for the ripped paper edges on your gif, the group layer should look like this:

now disable the torn paper texture (by clicking on the eye next to it, you won’t need that torn paper texture layer again), and your gif should look like this so far:

as you can see, there's a transparency issue, and we're losing the top part of the gif. to fix that, you need to brush some white color onto the mask.

to do that, hit ctrl and select the group's mask thumbnail again, you will see the same selection as earlier show up. with the selection ready, select the brush tool in the color white (and 100% opacity), and go brush/paint some white over the whole layer mask. this should fix the transparency issue and the gif should look like this:

once you're done, hit ctrl + D to make the selection disappear, and still with the layer mask selected on the gif's group, with the brush tool paint some white at the top so we get the top of the image back. it should look like this:

(you can also brush more white or black to add/remove parts to this layer mask if you want to, it’s what i did for the original gif, actually.)

now you should be ready to put whatever you want in that ripped edges “hole” you’ve created.

what i did for this gifset is i found a random paper texture on google and used it as a background for my text. make sure you put this background texture under the gif folder, so it will only show up in the “hole”. (i put my texture in a group i renamed “text” because i love my psd compositions to be tidy lol)

then i just typed the text i wanted and positioned it the way i wanted it to look. the text layer should be over the paper texture but still under the gif folder:

to finalize the look I color corrected the paper to be a bit more bright and added some highlight on the text, here you can do whatever you want to make the text look the way you want it to look.

i also added a bit of dropped shadow on the edges of the ripped paper. to do that I selected the mask (ctrl + click the smart mask thumbnail), created a new color fill layer (the color is not important). this will create a layer with a layer mask of the selection. i then selected the smart mask thumbnail and hit ctrl + i to invert it, so my mask is not only the inside of the “hole”. then i put this layer on top of everything, and the fill at 0%. finally i added an inner shadow in the layer style options (by double clicking on that color fill layer).

and that is the final result!

i hope that wasn’t all too over the place or not too detailed? i wasn’t sure how familiar with photoshop you are 😊

Just get the other characters to mention them, so I don’t feel like the writers forgot they existed! Also don’t give me Dichen Lichman and then just take her away!!! 😭

What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough?

Every time Mickey has to say the end of his sentence directly into Ian’s mouth because Ian can’t wait the extra 3 seconds to let him finish, he needs his lips on that boy’s mouth NOW! They’re so precious and horny and I love that for them!

After your last gifset (the sun vs moon one) and in light of the two preview clips we get from next week - Sand shutting Ray's request to be friends down and Ray having his little jealous fit at the party - I keep thinking about the fight at Sand's apartment from the trailer. And what I think I'd like (but am sadly not convinced will happen, because why would they cause us the least pain?) is for that fight to happen after the party jealousy episode, and be because Ray's finally confronting some level of his feelings for Sand. What I'm imagining in my best-case scenario is: Ray has his jealous fit and goes to talk to Sand afterwards, with the intention of keeping Sand on the hook/reinstating the flirtation even though it isn't going to go anywhere. (I don't think he'd encourage outright cheating because that instantly = no more Mew.) Sand turns that down flat because "Do you think I have no dignity?" as per the OST clip. And Ray has another jealous/entitled meltdown and says he doesn't even want to be with Sand anyway, he wishes he'd never met him, and he bets those grapes were sour anyway etc etc. Anyway, I don't think it will happen, but I like the idea on the grounds of a) Sand having a backbone! Yes please! and b) continuing to set up Ray's inevitable full-bore bitch fit if/when the ex shows back up. I thought you might enjoy that scenario too!

Firstly, I do hope Sand stands his ground. He's given Ray A LOT of chances. If he starts wavering, I'll flip a goddamn table. Sand needs to stick up for himself, but also narratively Ray has to feel the threat of Sand distancing to ever recognise his own feelings.

What I anticipate is things with Mew start to get a little rocky. Whilst Top is doing his level best to win Mew back, that's potentially when Sand's ex enters the scene. Timing wise, Sand is going to be much more susceptible to an old flame trying to rekindle whilst he's bouncing back from Ray. He's not in too deep yet to be opposed to the idea of moving onto someone else. So this is where the ex could do the most damage. Sand is a man of principle so if the ex showed up whilst he and Ray were already together, I don't think he'd be as easily swayed. Which is why I'd be inclined to expect the ex to show up before Ray and Sand have identified each other as lovers.

Now if that does happen, Ray is going to have an existential crisis. He finally has Mew, and yet he's not happy. He's seething. He's bothered. Perhaps Mew notices how worked up Ray seems to be over this.

What leads to the fight scene in Sand's apartment has to be pretty considerable. This fight looks 10x more brutal than the one outside the bar. And due to the sheer devastation in Sand's reactions throughout, I'm not sure this will take place next episode. I think whatever tension is brewing between them will need to escalate much, much more if it's to go from somewhat numb to utter anguish.

"You think my life will be better with you? It's only f*cking going down to hell." The dialogue could be read either as 'oh you think I'd be better off with you as my boyfriend instead of someone else (e.g. Mew)?' or 'you really think you would make my life better?' (in a more general sense).

But yes, I'm all for Ray going on a steady trajectory of losing his mind over Sand giving him the cold shoulder. Added in with the likelihood of things just not working out at all with Mew, and potentially Sand's ex rocking up. *Rubs hands together* I just need to see Ray jealous. That's all I really want. That boy was behaving way too cocky in the Episode 8 preview and he needs to be brought back down to earth. Swiftly.

“The pretty one” in my own biased costume-based opinion (😅), might be… love between fairy and devil or the other moon one?

🎉 We have a winner! 🎉

"The Pretty One" is indeed Till The End of the Moon, a show that scarcely needs a plot to succeed because it's just so GORGEOUS (though it does have plot, too). It's costume porn, it's Aesthetic(TM), it's someone going crazy with the makeup design every few episodes and making it more dramatique.

The reason for this show's nickname is obvious, but specifically it's because the last time @lauravanarendonkbaugh and I were deciding which series to watch next, I ran down the list of titles on my watch list and gave a brief summary of each. The description of this drama was just me babbling about how gorgeous the gifsets I'd seen were. When I got to the end of the list, Laura said, "Show me the pretty one." The name stuck -- and, I mean, it is 90% of why we started watching it (the other 10% is Luo Yunxi, whom I've enjoyed watching in other dramas).

As a costumer, I couldn't not watch this series once I saw the stills. I don't think I've ever seen sexy twig Luo Yunxi put in any costume that wasn't a good look, but what makes the costuming in this series more impressive is the detail -- for example, the real mother-of-pearl embellishments on this armor:

Higher quality materials look better and have more screen presence than the cheap substitutes lower-budget productions often have to use. Added to the very intentional color grading and surprisingly decent* special effects, it gives the whole series a lush, sumptuous aesthetic that makes it delightful to watch (even though I am... not optimistic about how the story is going to end. But no spoilers, please, we're only on episode 18).

So that's two title down, five more to go! (If anyone else wants to guess, haha -- the chart is here)

hey that pokemon 2000 gifset + your jn dub analysis made me think about the pokemon 2000 dub - I've only seen it subbed once (compared to the hundred times I watched it dubbed as a child) so I could be misremembering, but didn't the dub completely change the themes of the movie with the chosen one ash thing?

i actually haven’t watched the sub nearly as many as times as the dub either :p but i have read extensively about this topic bc it’s personally my favourite pokemon movie and yes! the first and second pokemon movies are both victim to this (like mewtwo’s epic speech we all love so much at the end of the first movie…being a complete fabrication by the dub team :p you gotta give those writers credit - they were VERY good at what they did), largely i’m guessing due to cultural values and expectations. since they were trying to sell the anime to an american audience, not a japanese one.

tangentially, i will say i also think that’s the root of this like…subtle distinction some people have between the characters “ash” and “satoshi.” i don’t differentiate them in any big way myself because fundamentally they still are very much the same, but it is true that in japanese, ash has somewhat different mannerisms and responds differently to events at times, especially in the early anime when it was so much easier to get away with making big changes for…a big assortment of reasons haha.

in THIS movie in particular, some of those things are like…well. the prophecy is probably the most obvious change. the dub team rewrote it to include the chosen one reference, which works great because of the word play on ash’s name. in japanese, it just says “an exceptional trainer will appear to help calm the wrath of the gods.” ash’s response to this is more mild trepidation than outright fear. he doesn’t hesitate like he does in the dub. and tbh? both reactions make perfect sense for his character in my opinion.

in japanese, his concern is more "do you really think i can fit that role?" this...tracks pretty well with his character development by this point. like yeah he said he could win the indigo league, but he's also thinking about dropping out after gary loses; it's that little grain of insecurity he has, which he's normally good at covering up with arrogance (a lot of which is also very genuine, don't get me wrong). but he sees the opportunity to help and he takes it. that's just...what ash does.

in english, though, the prophecy is pretty clearly about him. there's no one else it could be. it has to be him. and he...doesn't like that? that scares him. which, fair. anyone would be terrified by being singled out like that. it's also so much...not ash's thing, even at this point in the series. his character development is about embracing having to work hard to do well. to keep trying until you get it right, no matter how many times you get it wrong. the idea of being a "chosen one" completely robs him of his ability to be so single-minded about what he wants his destiny to be that it manifests as pre-determined; it just...pre-determines it for him, if that makes sense. lol.

the thesis of the japanese version of the film is that no one person or pokemon can stand on their own. everyone needs help. it's about harmonizing with each other and with nature. about letting others help you, and helping them in turn. the english version rewrites that into a story about power and destiny. the title alone says it all, right? it's called "the power of one" - no reference to lugia, no reference to the birds. in japan, the title is about the revelation (or "birth") of lugia.

westerners love a good chosen one story, so this was a really good choice by the dub team in that respect. i mean, it's a narrative that's stuck really well. fandom loves chosen one ash! in general, western fanbases are really into this narrative. it's everywhere. and there's a lot that goes into that, culturally, and especially religiously, historically, etc. so at the end of the day, i don't think the change is so much about conflicting ideas about collectivism and individualism. it's more about goals and ideals, on a personal level.

let me say again for the 273456784th time, i love that they resolved ash's story by having him realize that the goal he's really been striving for all this time is to meet and befriend pokemon. to learn from them. to earn their trust. it's like...he did the thing that everyone else thought represented his goal, maybe even himself included, only to realize that his dream was never about the end of it anyway. it was about everything he learnt and everyone he met along the way. (i also suspect nobody writing in 1997 knew that that would be the ultimate resolution, either. but it makes sense in the entire context. it's kind of a nice irony, even. to only figure it out after writing the story :p)

and i think this little distinction is important to that goal! it's his whole character! which is why even though i too love chosen one characters, i don't necessarily think of ash as one. because even if he is, his whole Thing is that he wants to try. a lot of the chosen one narrative is about characters being reluctant to be used for a "greater good," or about them collapsing under that pressure. ash doesn't really have that. he does what he thinks is right because he...thinks it's right. sometimes, sure, others have to push him into it a bit, but usually they're actually pushing the other way - it's too dangerous, you're going to get hurt, etc. and to me, i don't know - thinking of times he's died, or nearly died, and some legendary or mythical pokemon has saved him at the last minute...i don't think that has to mean he's special in a cosmic sort of way. i think it just means he's special to them. that he did something for them, or for someone else they had come to care for (thinking manaphy responding to may's emotions, not just to the fact that ash was drowning, or in mpm ash convincing latios to trust him because of their mutual desire to save latias, etc.), and so they want to help him. which is completely opposite to the typical chosen one narrative, i think? because he doesn't do those things out of obligation...he does them because he thinks he can become a better trainer by doing them, and he wants to do that. and well. he did do that.

anyway my tl;dr here is YES they changed the theme a lot haha, but i find it fun that they also changed the characters’ responses to that theme. funnily that’s…kind of also what fanfiction writers do all the time, lmao, but that’s a whole other conversation.

#answered #im sure id have something more insightful to say if id watched the original recently but i havent Dx #*meta #i guess #also re: the chosen one narrative being very religious #its more to the idea specifically of a character who does selfless things for the sake of being selfless and it often ends with the #character martyring themself somehow. which i dont think it’s necessarily WRONG to say is what ash does. self-sacrificial is not a Bad way #to describe him. i think its a reasonable and compelling read on his character. its just not mine i guess because as much as i also love #chosen one characters what i love most about it isnt the fact that they are a chosen one #so much as what the consequences of that have been because what they really want deep down is to just…not have to save the world #but ash isnt really like that. saving the world is more of a byproduct of what hes actually trying to do. which is to help others #rather than being forced to save the world to help the ones he cares for. its kinda opposite. idk. maybe i’ll write a post about this #properly someday bc rn my brain is mush and i can only think of three major western franchises that even have chosen ones lol

Heyyo, really random question: did you ever notice that 1955!Doc calls Marty 'kid' several times while 1985!Doc never does (as far as I can remember)? By any chance do you have Thoughts™ on that?

Hello, hi, YES, I have noticed that (and had even considered making a gifset of these moments, haha). If I'm not mistaken, the official tally for 1955!Doc referring to Marty as "kid" is 3 (technically 4 if you count a deleted scene!). In typical fashion, I do, indeed, have Thoughts on this. And my theory is: 1955!Doc uses "kid" because of the lack of connection between himself and Marty. Yes, Doc does get to know Marty during that week, and he does grow to become friends with that strange Future Boy, but a week is hardly enough time to comprehend or reach the level of closeness they'll have in 1985. And since Doc is so firmly against getting information on the future, he might not even allow Marty to tell him any stories that show a true glimpse into their friendship. Doc knows that they'll end up friends, but that framework isn't there for him yet. So, having recently just met, Doc's usage of "kid" might be a reflection of that. Marty is a kid who showed up on his doorstep and needed his help.

Plus! It could have something to do with them not quite being "equals" in 1955 Doc's eyes? I mean, in 1985, the two of them appear to be on equal footing, with Doc showing Marty the same level of respect he'd show to someone his own age, rather than looking at him as just an assistant or talking down to him like he's a child. And while 1955 Doc also treats Marty with respect, I do think he leans more toward: "I am now suddenly a guardian of this kid for a week, and I must keep him from constantly getting himself into trouble and erasing himself from existence."

Which brings me to my next thing: 1985!Doc does also call Marty "kid"! It's in Part II, in the scene where Doc rides his bike over to Biff's house in search of Marty but can't find him. "Where IS that kid??"

And this instance of him doing it is actually very fitting (and amusing) considering how exasperated Doc is in this moment. Their attempts to retrieve the almanac is not going as planned, Doc just had to go out to find a bike and buy a hat AND then Marty ends up not even being in the place where he was supposed to be. Doc is tired. He'd just wanted to take Marty on a quick trip to 2015 to fix something, and now look where he is. After having to save Jennifer from the future McFly home, and experiencing The Horrors of alternate 1985, Doc is now on a wild goose chase to find his buddy (who had set off this entire chain of events because of his inability to follow instructions).

So, in that moment, Doc frustratedly exchanging Marty's name for "kid" makes sense. Doc is like a weary parent who has lost his highly impulsive child in a crowded mall. Again. He's done with all the nonsense and probably just wants to go home, have a cup of tea, and take a very long nap.

Hi, I really love your andor gifset from September 28 2022 (idk if I can post a link so... but it's from the first episode) and I was wondering if you could maybe give me some tips on how to make it so clear and vibrant even when the picture is big? I have just started gif-making a few days ago and I definitely want to aspire to make such great gifs.

Hi there!!!! Firstly tysmmm 🥺 i really had a fun time making those big gif andor episode sets i think they all turned out great!

I did make a tutorial a while back mostly focusing on how I sharpen my gifs. My steps mostly the same as they were here except I now export gifs using "adaptive & diffusion"

The Andor gifsets you called out I did use 4K SDR videos. But I don't always think 4K is necessary (especially where r we gunna get them now rip rarbg), 1080p is always preferred and if you're d*wnl*ding / t*rr*nting i would recommend trying to pick the larger file size, for example choosing a movie thats 5GB over 1.5GB.

In my last tutorial I didn't really go into how I colour my gifs but that's where the biggest changes come into place. I don't use a set preset/psd, I colour each gifset uniquely but I do have the same order of steps generally. My order of adjustment layers tends to be: Levels, Curves, Selective Colour, Vibrancy. I also frequently use Channel Mixer and Hue/Saturation when needed. Below the cut I'll share my "starting" settings for some of the adjustments layers but these often change as the gif needs.

I hope this is somewhat helpful!! I think with practice and more gifing you'll find your own style and process. I look back at gifs I made a year ago and think oooof haha what was I doing back then. constant improvements & always finding new tricks♥️ I would also recommend following some gif resources blogs like @usergif or @pscentral they often post really helpful tutorials & tricks to help make your gifmaking the best it can be!

Levels - I tend to start with the default "Increase Contrast 1" or "Increase Contrast 2" depending on how dark the intial scene is. When making aditional adjustments I focus on the end sliders - the dark & light, and barely ever touch the midtones adjustment, if i do use it I go very subtly so 1.05 or 0.95. Our goal in the end is to make the darkest parts of the gif black & the lightest parts almost white.

Curves - imo curves makes the biggest adjustment for the gif colouring. shes my best friend! So again I focus on the dark/light eye droppers. I start with the white eyedropper and select something white or the lightest part of the gif, then go to the black eye dropper selecting a very dark portion of the gif. Then in the middle section I adjust the curves line (white line) to meet the needs of the gif for proper contrast / brightness. If needed Ill open the RGB drop down (red arrow) and adjust specific colours. I use the Blue the most as i often see alot of yellow tint in movies (which i hate lol) so ill bring the top end of the blue line closer to the centre of the grid to reduce the yellowness. Sometimes ill make a second curves layer, set the preset to "linear contrast" then adjust the sliders as needed, this often gives additional contrast & brightness.

Selective Colour - my second best friend! this is where you can make little adjustments to the hues of the gif, then fine tweak the darkness/brightness in the gif. So below i have my "starting points" in the white, natural & black colours. Often the white ends up being a much lower number (-40 or less) and in the neutrals area i can fine tune the overall hue of the gif - reduce the yellows or increase the reds etc. This tool is alot of playing around with and just seeing what looks good!

Vibrance - this is normally the last layer ill add. I barely change the settings I tend to go with 20-30 Vibrance and then 2-5 on Saturation. Just gives add extra vibrancy and colour pop. Saturation stays a bit on the lower side as often bringing it makes peoples skin tone too orange/red/yellow etc. But if I want over saturation increase on particular colours I'll make those adjustments with a Hue/Saturation layer.

God, Enchanted is my #1 all time favorite movie and has been since it came out in 2007 and I was so excited for the sequel and so nervous it was gonna screw up royally and taint the memory of the first but NOPE! It was a delightful addition to the canon.

I was actually in California at a convention with classmates when the movie dropped and I told everyone three days in advance, "Listen, I have been waiting for this movie for 15 years. At the stroke of midnight, I WILL be watching Disenchanted. Idc if we need to be up early tomorrow. Idc if y'all wanna go out and have fun. I am going to be in the hotel room downloading this directly into my brain."

When Enchanted came out, I was just getting into deconstruction of classic stories for the first time so it came out at the perfect time to really hit me in the exact way it was going for. And right now I'm super into found family and mother-daughter stuff (Turning Red and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once are my other 2 fave movies of 2022) so Disenchanted managed to hit me square in the chest *again*. (When Giselle tells Morgan she *is* a true daughter of Andalasia? Ugh, my heart.)

I really appreciate that they didn't just try to do the same plot again nor did they inject unnecessary relationship drama with Robert. Nah, the man is as in love as ever. Switching the relationship focus to the OTHER important relationship in Giselle's life was a galaxy brained move imo. I always appreciate when a story focuses on a platonic relationship. And looking at where Giselle now fits in the whole fairy tale hierarchy now that she's no longer the fresh faced maiden is honestly inspired. It's a plot choice that made me think, "Wow, this might actually be good," amidst all the mediocre follow-ups that have been coming out lately.

And everyone was having so much fun in the movie! Patrick Dempsey is so funny being unphased by Giselle's antics in the first third and then chewing the scenery in his prince persona. Amy Adams has never phoned in a performance a day in her life and I love her for that. She *has* the range. And I loved Gabriella Baldacchino as Morgan so much! If I was doing my first movie ever and they were like, "You're gonna be opposite Amy Adams the whole time," I would have flipped the flip out but she held her own so well! She was equally believable as a grumpy but generally good natured teen and a chipper, fairy tale maiden and my biggest regret re: the movie is that Something DIfferent This Year was cut because it's my fave song on the soundtrack and I would have loved to see the choreo that goes with it. I hope to see her in more stuff!

OK, now I'm rambling about how much I love this movie. Whoops! Bottom line, Disenchanted was one of the nicest surprises of 2022 for me and provided me a ton of serotonin. I've already watched it like four times and I hope your cousin is super proud of having been in such a genuinely heartwarming movie. Sincerity is a thing that is sometimes very underappreciated but I think sincere is pretty much the best thing that a movie can be.

And thank YOU for giving me a chance to ramble about this movie. I will talk about this truly at the drop of a hat, haha.

Hello! I have a question about alt text. What's the best thing to do when you can describe your whole post in the first image/gif/etc? Like for example, let's say you do a simple gifset of someone smiling or of another such simple action that can be easily described with few words. Is it okay to describe the whole post in the first gif, or should i get specific so there's alt tex in each gif? (Hope that was understandable haha)

(also while i'm here, this might be dumb to ask, but are polls accessible? Do i need to id them or that's fine?)

you should describe every individual gif/image with its own alt text. the reason why is that a blind person using a screen reader has no way of knowing if the other images/gifs are related to the first without specification.

the caption of the post would be a good place to summarize the whole gifset in more natural language (in addition to the alt text). for example, you could have multiple gifs with alt text that read: "a gif of a person's face breaking into a smile," "a gif of the person's smiling fading," "a gif of the person looking away"; and the post's caption could read: "a gifset of a person smiling before the smile fades and they look away." basically, what you'd described per gif, in its own sentence or two. as always, i recommend you describe things in alt text AND the caption for max accessibility.

and yes, polls are accessible to screen readers. of course if you include an image or gif as part of the poll, that would need to be described.

Favorite scenes are always SO hard for me to pick because I can never narrow it down to just one! (Which, I don't know, perhaps that's a little vain to say about your own work, but if I didn't love what I was writing I wouldn't be writing it, y'know?) Especially for a work as long as YNYD.

So! In the grand tradition of Ursa Talking Too Much, I thought maybe an interesting way to answer this question could be to talk about which scenes were lynchpin scenes in my initial outline as I was figuring out if I actually wanted to write the fic/commit to the project or not! Because they are all favorite scenes, in addition to being the key scenes that I built the entire rest of the plot around.

Spoilers up to chapter 10 (so nothing past what's currently been posted on AO3) under the read-more:

the entire first chapter, obviously; I didn't outline this because it was already fully-formed in my head-- unlike most of my chapters there were very few details in here that weren't already a part of the initial idea! (art of this scene by @shivanessa 💖; NFF)

the lab scene after Peter's birthday in chapter 5! (gifset of this scene by @filthy-kaoss 💖) I didn't have it fully fleshed-out in the initial outline, but I knew I wanted Peter to bring up Tony not calling him "kid" anymore, and that I wanted Peter to actually get upset with Tony's forced distance between them, confront him about it, and ultimately end up revealing that he was attracted to Tony/wanted to sleep with him again as a redo, and Tony acquiescing just enough to give him a second "first kiss." I looove this scene because of the fluctuations in mood, the way it builds/alters Tony and Peter's perceptions of both each other and how they're processing their individual traumas, it being the first major step in the boys having some Actual Communication, and because I love angry Pete haha.

both of the post-nightmare scenes from chapter 6, but particularly the second one where Peter actually ends up comforting Tony because Tony finally verbalizes some of the specifics of his guilt and how it's been keeping him from communicating with Peter. Both scenes are important for building further communication and building further physical intimacy between the two of them, particularly with these scenes being the kick-offs for the veeeery bad habit of bed-sharing that they get into. I love communication and I love cuddling and I love Peter just aggressively refusing to let Tony be mean to himself, and how Peter taking on the comforting role here is the start of them shifting into a more equal relationship in Tony's mind (it started in the previous chapter for Peter,) because it kicks them out of the Tony-as-a-provider/Peter-as-a-recipient dynamic.

Peter and Tony's argument in the gym/its spillover into Tony's suite in chapter 7! (art of this scene by @shivanessa 💖) Sooo many things I love about this scene, ugh. Tony's trauma response being to revert into being kind of a paternalistic dick and trying to pull rank on Peter as an Adult Authority Figure, Peter's utter refusal to accept that/to allow Tony to define their relationship that way, Peter getting to process for himself and confront Tony with the fact that he doesn't regret what happened, Tony giving in and dropping his cold/defensive act when Peter throws his words back at him ("you said you trusted me"/"it's always 'whatever you need' until what I need is for you to be safe"), the intimacy of ~genuine apologies~, and as always, 💖 angry Peter 💖

the end of chapter 8 in Tony's bedroom where Tony goes for a kiss on auto-pilot and Peter completes it for him after he freezes. I loved just getting to hammer home what a state of domestic intimacy the boys had fallen into, to the point that Tony legitimately forgot himself and pulled some full-on Married Nonsense, and it seemed like the best way to push them into actually confronting the situation for what it was-- Peter got the explicit confirmation that Tony had Kissing Feelings for him, and it was blatant enough that Tony couldn't twist it, run away from it or deny it to himself. I also loved the like… mix of tenderness and hopeless finality in Peter asking for Tony to hold him, just for that night, since he didn't know what would happen in the morning when they finally talked about it, aaa!

and, the opening on chapter 9 where they f i n a l l y lay it all out on the table, and Tony is ultimately brave enough to admit that he does want a relationship and he's willing to take on the challenges to make it happen. I've mentioned this before, but getting to this scene in my outline was THE thing that convinced me I had a full-fledged idea on my hands and that I did want to start writing the fic, and just the outline for this scene was 1.5k words! It is definitely My Baby in that sense, and to actually answer your question, if I haaaaaaad to narrow things down further, it'd probably be a tie between this scene and the gym argument for absolute favorite.

…Aaand there were two more lynchpin scenes in my outline but we haven't gotten there yet 😘 There were of course other things that I knew I wanted to capture over the course of the fic-- Peter and Tony's respective trauma reactions, how their differences there bumped up against each other to create some miscommunications/sore spots, the way their mutual trauma affects the development of their sex life, etc. etc., but I didn't have those things plotted as specific scenes vs just concepts I knew I wanted to integrate over the course of the work.

That was waaaaaaaaaay more than you asked for but I hope it was at least interesting! Thank you so much for your support and for giving me an excuse to natter on 💖

and yes, i have MANY thoughts on the Axiz reunion!!!!! a lot of my thoughts on the team don't seem to be super popular in the main eng fanbase for NOAH, so i've sort of been keeping them to myself... 😅

i did publish a very short fic, though, after their first match back together as a tag team. and i've been thinking about the bodyswap fic again 🥲

most of my wrestling thoughts so far this year are in my wrestling journal, which i guess has sort of replaced giffing for me because it's way less time-intensive, though i'd still like to publish some of this content as gifsets, especially the TJPW story stuff, which as far as i can tell is not getting written about (in English) anywhere else. the wrestling journal itself is unpublishable in its current state because i also use it to bookmark some of my favorite fan photos, and i wouldn't want to republish those. but i do love it when people read it and comment on some of the stuff in there! i'm constantly falling behind on it and getting caught up super last minute, but it has been a rewarding project overall.

as far as Axiz specifically goes, i also created a separate Axiz journal just for tracking stuff related to their 2023 run. so if that team is the main thing you're into and you don't care about 90% of the other wrestling stuff i'm on about, that has all of my current thoughts and observations on them! it also contains various supplemental material, like tweets and stuff from shupro, plus my very rough translations of the material. there's also a long ramble about the third Axiz photobook, Green, and about how it becomes a different book entirely depending on when you read it (pre-betrayal, post-betrayal, post-reunion).

the main reason why i made that document was because: 1) i've gotten spoiled by my own TJPW blog lol and i get frustrated by how hard it is to browse old post-match comments in other companies due to how poorly organized basically all wrestling companies are and how ephemeral this stuff is, and 2) i have some amount of actual Japanese proficiency now that i did not have when i first got into Axiz in 2020. so i've started to prefer experiencing the stories through the original Japanese, and i sometimes get frustrated by the official translations and want to keep track of the Japanese 😅.

i've also been having fun exploring the Japanese side of the fandom and sort of ignoring what's going on on the western side of things. i've been using it as an excuse to do some low-stakes Japanese reading practice without having the pressure to translate for hundreds of other people like i do with TJPW. so far, all of the Axiz comments have been super short (way shorter than i'm used to with TJPW), so it has been a doable side project for me. the translation quality is way lower than my TJPW translations, though, so just a warning about that. i didn't want to bother my translation tag team partner and ask them to check even more of my work, haha, so there might be mistakes in there, though it's certainly not the worst NOAH translations that you will find... 😅

as far as Axiz potentially doing a program against the Golden Lovers goes, anon, i want that so bad 😭. the only thing i want more would be them doing a program with the Magical Sugar Rabbits 🥲. Axiz vs Golden Lovers feels actually legit plausible, though, considering that Kota has expressed interest in working with NOAH, and considering the AEW/NOAH partnership.

also, i do have one bonus meme that is not in the Axiz journal lol. you might need to read the journal for context, though, depending on how closely you've been following this stuff (i'm tuned out of the fandom at large and don't know what has and hasn't been getting talked about).

Currently watching : Shadow and Bones season 2 (ep 3), Bed Friend (ep 6, Tumblr did wear me down), HIStory 3: Trapped (ep 6, it started off so well but I'm not so convinced now), Tomorrow (ep 3, need to find time to see the friend I'm watching it with), My School President (ep 8, it's cute but I don't see what the fuss is about, a bit too teenager-y for me perhaps), GAP The Series (ep 7, I guess I'm kinda stuck for some reason)

Rewatching : The Untamed (ep 21, kinda took a break from it with my roommate but we need to get back to watching) , Not Me (ep 9, my gf just found out Todd is indeed a "snake boi" and she's very happy haha), IZombie season 2 (comfort show)

Just finished : Who Rules the World (pretty good but the ending ruined it a bit by being so rushed), The End of the World with You (it was so weird I loved it), Dark season 3 (it was good but made my brain hurt, if you wanted to make a PSA against incest you didn't have to make it so complicated)
