i am going to keep this succinct.

i, alongside many other people in this fandom, watched and saw as people got comfortable in numbers and showed themselves to be capable of absolutely reprehensible behaviour. you acted out because you felt comfortable doing so alongside other people who were doing the same.

you do not get to be absolved of that now that popular opinion is shifting once again.

you are allowed to feel your feelings, and they can be complicated and hurt and raw. you also have the right to act on your feelings however you see fit. however, this does not prevent you from the judgement your actions deserve. if you react to something in the manner that some of you did, you deserve criticism, you deserve shame, and you deserve to think long and hard about what part of yourself holds a belief that allows you to feel justified in that kind of behaviour.

i hope you get right with yourself. i have very little faith you will.

to say this as bluntly as possible: if you took this as an opportunity to be vile towards someone while, in the same breath, protected your white male blorbo who is a grown ass man capable of making his own decisions on his own terms and is not "being held hostage" or forced or Whatever you want to say to be cute and get likes on instagram or youtube, i do not trust you to have the emotional maturity to handle anything, and your opinion no longer holds any weight. your vitriol and refusal to crticially think is a disease.

I think Shane was on the verge of tears in that video and I can’t even imagine how Ryan and Steven must be feeling inside since they suffer from terrible anxiety. I hate this fandom so much.

i wouldn't be surprised if they never trusted us with anything ever again. we have enjoyed unparalleled access and availability from the founders and their staff and the thanks they received was for a loud, shitty part of the fandom to react like they'd killed babies live on camera over a business decision that was a choice they made in order to keep themselves afloat so that they could continue to pay their staff and not lay anyone off.

i truly am detested by the things i have seen this weekend, from people who i thought were rational, normal human beings and instead turned into rabid, frothing animals at the prospect of having to financially support creators they profess to love and cherish.

it's just fucking sickening and i think i will not be over this for a while.

Backlash does not equal bullying. As consumers of their videos, we the audience are allowed to express our disappointment and tell them that their choices will make us no longer follow them. They deserve to be paid but they went about this in the worst way possible. If they had this new delayed model from the start, or at least didn't hype up this announcement like it was a positive thing, they wouldn't have had such a unified negative response. Anyone who threatened or insulted them is downright toxic and terrible but criticism and pointing out the huge flaws in their plan is not bullying them.

criticism is absolutely fine! but a giant number of the takes/ complaints that i've seen this weekend were NOT THAT - the bullies in question are the ones who turned their vitriol and anger towards anyone in the fandom who still supported them and/ or the people who downright attacked Steven for jesuschrist any number of shitty reasons that had nothing to do with the actual issue of how they sprung this on us (which was honestly not cool and could have been handled WAY better/ slower, i get it)

and tbh, if you didn't hurl insults and belittle your fellow fans then that post was not for you, but the ones who did should absolutely feel shame for how they acted over the last 48hrs (and we've already started seeing that they don't)

Just finished watching their statement. I'm so exhausted from this weekend and I'm not even going to look at the reaction of anyone but my mutuals and friends. They are just, really good guys and more than half of the people online watching them don't even deserve them.

i am SO MAD that the boys had to backtrack like this. i am SO MAD that i had to listen to them apologize to a toxic group of fucking BULLIES who are just going to keep on bullying people now that they've been successful at it. i am INFURIATED that they look so tired and broken when all they were trying to do is better their company (and their lives and the lives of their employees)

i hate that a fandom that i loved, that kept me sane and smiling for years has turned into this. i hope that the bullies feel shame, but i know that they're celebrating instead and it breaks my heart
