You sat alone at the dinner table. Again.

You knew that Diavolo was always busy, but you just didn't know with what. He wouldn't tell you anything about his job and you didn't mind if it really was something he couldn't share, but you would at least like to know when he was coming home.

You had a surprise lined up as it was your anniversary, but he still wasn't here, and you were sitting alone at the dinner table, letting the food go cold, letting the candle melt, and letting your nice outfit go to waste.

You ate a little bit, but in the end were to upset to continue, so you packed up the food and blew out the candle before going upstairs and putting on something comfortable. You were going to sleep alone. Again.

You didn't mean to curl up and cry, but you really missed him and missed communication.

You were sniffling in the dark and hugging a pillow, feeling pretty empty.

But then you felt something familiar wipe your tears and you sat up to see Diavolo in the dark.

You wiped your tears yourself, acting as if they weren't there, and Diavolo pet the top of your head. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." you whispered.

"Liar," he chuckled. "Tell me."

You sighed and hugged Diavolo, shutting your eyes tight. "It's our anniversary and I wanted to surprise you, but-"

You heard him curse under his breath. "Was it really? Cara, I am so sorry." He pulled back from the hug and cupped your face. "Forgive me. I will do anything for you, my love."

You cried softly while he held you and apologized softly under his breath.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked.

You shook your head and looked at him with watery eyes. So, he pressed kiss after kiss onto your cheek, telling you exactly how he was going to make it up to you.

Valtteri has only just made himself comfortable against the railing, standing with his back to it, when Lewis appears by his side. "Hey!" he says, smiling the way he always does when he looks at Valtteri.

"Hello, Lewis," Valtteri returns with a smile of his own, as Lewis promptly takes up his unofficial spot next to him, back to the railing and leaning against Valtteri's arm. "Doing good?"

Lewis nods. "Yeah," he says, and leans in so that his mouth is very close to Valtteri's ear. "I got money riding on this, man, so — follow my lead?"

Valtteri chooses not to point out how that's all he's ever done, and just nods. "Sure," he says easily. "What is it?"

Lewis looks around, as if making sure they're alone. Which is a little silly, considering this is the drivers' parade. Literally the entire world has eyes on them.

"It's a dare," he says, in the end. "I'm going to keep talking, okay, and you're going to laugh like I said something hilarious."

Valtteri grins. That he can do. Then, for Lewis's benefit, he lets out a mildly exaggerated laugh.

Lewis grins back. "Great," he said. "Okay, so, Jenson and I were talking, and—"

"Lewis! Hello!"

It's Guanyu, waving as he approaches. "Hi," Lewis greets, returning his wave. "All right, Guanyu?"

Guanyu nods. "Yeah, all good. Excited for the race?"

"'Course," replies Lewis. He's not just making nice; he's being genuine, and Valtteri can't help but feel fond. It seems that him taking Guanyu under his wing is more than enough reason for Lewis to warm up to him faster than he does to most other people. Like Valtteri's word is all that he needs.

"Best of luck," Guanyu is saying. "See you later, Lewis! And you, Valtteri."

"See you," Lewis says. "Good kid," he adds once Guanyu is out of earshot, now drifting towards Yuki and Pierre.

"Yeah," says Valtteri, but is not interested in discussing the many virtues of his teammate. "What were you saying earlier?"

"Right, yeah, Jenson! So we were talking, you know, banter, like we do, and somehow you and I came up—"

"Somehow?" Valtteri repeats, amused.

"Yes, somehow," Lewis says, elbowing Valtteri lightly in the ribs. "And he said that we're not subtle at all, and someday one of us is bound to slip up and then it'll be on the news. And I said he's an idiot, of course we know how to be subtle—"

"About what?" came a voice, and they looked away from each other to see George.

"Our plot to overthrow the FIA," Lewis said with a grin, the lie smooth.

"And you left me out of it?" George says, doing a passable imitation of a betrayed tone.

"Our circle of trust is very small," Valtteri says somberly.

"More of a tiny dot, really," adds Lewis.

"I bet Sebastian's in it," George sniffs.

"Of course he is," Valtteri replies. "Sebastian being in Lewis's..." He lets the pause go on a bit too long, grinning at the looks on Lewis and George's faces, "...plans is always a given."

George looks at him, then at Lewis, and then back at him. "I... am going to go now," he says, clearly deciding this joke is not worth pursuing. The look in his eyes is a dead giveaway for the mental images flashing through his head, and Valtteri has to suppress a grin. "Bye."

"Great," sighs Lewis once he's gone. "Now I've got to deal with a whole new set of rumors."

"Believe me, those are not new," Valtteri says dryly. "Anyway. Continue."

Lewis leans further into his side. "Yeah, okay. Where was I? Right, the bet. So anyway, Jenson said if we can manage to kiss during the driver's parade without anyone seeing and no camera catching it, he'll pay me a thousand euro. And if we get caught, or I don't do it, I have to give him double."

Valtteri stares at him, completely forgetting to pretend he's laughing at a joke. "Lewis. You realize there are cameras everywhere, yes? And we are surrounded by people."

"Yes, I know, but I thought this out, I swear," Lewis tells him, grabbing his arm. "Look, over there — they're interviewing Fernando, and right next to him, look."

Valtteri looks. Pierre has got Yuki in a headlock, Yuki is trying to wrestle him off, and everyone's eyes are on them. The cameraperson looks torn between keeping Fernando in focus or switching to the boys. Valtteri glances up, finds a screen — and sure enough, they're not visible on it. Only Fernando, and the playful scuffle in the background.

"No moment like the present then," he says, voice low, and pulls Lewis closer. Lewis lets out a small, surprised sound — clearly this was not a part of his plan — but then they're kissing, soft and chaste and much shorter than Valtteri would like. But it is a kiss, and, heart beating loud and hard in his chest, Valtteri realizes they've done it here, in the driver's parade.

"What now?" he asks, when Lewis takes a tiny step back and resumes his previous place by Valtteri's side.

Lewis sucks his lower lip into his mouth, biting into it like he's tasting Valtteri there still. "Now we wait," he murmurs, hand brushing against Valtteri's on the railing. Good thing they're on the side further from the stands.

"That was good, though, yes?" Valtteri asks, and grins at the look on Lewis's face.

"Yeah," Lewis says, with a soft laugh.

"Let's split the winnings?"

"If we get them," Lewis reminds him, and then adds, "Let's use them to make a dinner reservation."

"Fine by me," says Valtteri, and Lewis smiles at him, and here with the world's eyes on him, Valtteri can look only at him.

"You're so cute when you're upset." Gyro chuckled, squishing your cheeks together.

"Oh, shut up." you mumbled in a muffled voice.

"What? Why're you even mad at me, love?" He tilted his head and gave you puppy dog eyes that he knew would get you.

"You made fun of me." you said.

He laughed out loud and pulled you into his arms.

You wanted to try out the spin for yourself, so you were messing around with Gyro's steel balls. That didn't do much for you other than make you almost break your foot. So Gyro laughed at you and made you feel all embarrassed.

"I was just kidding, cutie pie. If you want, I can teach you."

You giggled and gave him a playful punch to the gut and he just smiled at you, cupping your cheek. "You know I love you."

"I know." you said.

He pulled you in closer and kissed you. You ran your fingers through his hair and you could feel him smile into the kiss.

God, it didn't matter how upset you were at Gyro because he would always remind you in little ways how much he loves you.
