Headcanon that when a light is shone in Shikamaru's eyes, he stops entirely and just stares like a deer in headlights. Which leads to people finding him in the kitchen getting a midnight snack and getting scared shitless by his stare.
Chouji or Ino will get up to go get some water, using a torch to light the way, and they shine it into the kitchen and Shikamaru just looks at them like this:

What is the "Lee wins" au? Lee wins the chuunin exam fight against Gaara? Lee wins everything? Lee wins at life? /j
LOL it's Lee wins the chuunin exams.
If you want a more detailed summary, TW for suicide attempt and nasty injuries below
Basically, the premise is that Gaara faints during their fight due to a combination of Lee crushing his ribcage with a kick and the sight of his own blood, letting Shukaku take over. Lee gets injured, but not as profoundly as in canon. The "4th Kazekage" (Orochimaru in disguise) declares they have to kill Gaara, but Gai intervenes and Kakashi becomes suspicious when he recalls that Gaara is the Kazekage's son. Matters get even more suspicious when Orochi-kage isn't able to use the magnet release to subdue Gaara. The invasion gets stymied as a result. With a joint cooperative effort from multiple nations' worth of shinobi, Gaara is eventually taken down - severely injured, but not dead. Some experts are able to stabilize his seal a bit, but not quite permanently and to excruciating pain.
And while jinchuuriki do have healing powers, the powers are imprecise and basically just focused on keeping the vessel alive. Gaara recuperates in the hospital in Konoha, after undergoing - under great risk & extensive seal work - a surgery that removes several dead organs from his body and reconstructs his ribcage. Lee visits him from time to time. Ultimately he is told that he will no longer be able to fight (in his mind - protect himself & assert his existence), so he throws himself off the roof of the hospital. The sand catches him, of course.
Suna attempts to transfer Shukaku to Kankuro, but the sealing fails because Shukaku insists on staying bound to Gaara.
Years later, both of their paths have been utterly altered: Lee remains a taijutsu specialist but has become a special jounin with a focus on assisting wounded shinobi through rehab and physical therapy. Gaara has become an avid gardener and agricultural scientist, though severely limited by his physical disabilities. In addition Temari has become Kazekage and is constantly dodging assassination attempts by the Council, who consider her a traitor's daughter. There are several attempts to marry her off to control her, one she almost goes through with until Kankuro walks into the council chambers and announces his intentions to kill Temari's intended and his family, at the risk of war.
Lee and Gaara stay in touch by mail, though Gaara's mental health is perhaps as poor as his physical health, and he spends much of his time researching a seal that wil lock Shukaku away for good. The story is mainly epistolary from here.
Ultimately, Lee and Gaara reunite in Suna when Lee is dispatched as support on a mission, realize that the feelings that have been growing between them are more than a lasting friendship, and ... well, you can probably guess the rest :)
Anyway, this fic is SO SO plotty, so I will probably never write it, but it's fun to think about sometimes!

How about Mina/Kushi, Hina, Erza, Miruko, Fuu, Temari and Gaara with a pokemon trainer SO (the pokemon can be up to you). How would they treat their Pokémon and vice versa.
It’s been years since I’ve last played Pokémon…
Tw: Yandere themes, unhealthy mindset, unhealthy relationship, possessiveness, obsessiveness, delusions, clinginess
s/o is a Pokémon Trainer
Minato Namikaze & Kushina Uzumaki
Tumblr media
⚡️🌶The concept of a Pokémon trainer who catches animal-like creatures instead of making a contract with them like shinobi usually do is a new concept for both, implying that their darling might be from abroad. It’s gotta be a disappointment for them to discover that they won’t find foreign new Pokémon like they might have hoped to do yet Kushina and Minato try to make their stay in here as pleasant and interesting as possible, they surely won’t let their love leave just like this. It’s doubtlessly very clear that their darling might not have any experience at all how to completely fight for themself since in their country Pokémon are used to do this job, though mostly more out of fun reasons. So Minato has probably insisted to teach his darling the standards of fighting.
⚡️🌶Your Fennekin probably ends up being their new pet of some sorts since you as good as never put them back into their ball, declaring that they’re your best friend and kept you company ever since you got them. Knowing how precious this fox is to you, both Minato and Kushina obviously want to be on good terms with it as well. Which turns out to not be entirely easy since the little one is a arrogant little being, sensing that those two people are not completely pure and for that proving to constantly cause troubles for both of them, interfering when those two attempt to show affection to you and ruining things in the house.
⚡️🌶The couple…tries to put all the time a forced smile on their face to hide their growing annoyance, by now having realized that the fox doesn’t like them near you at all. Kushina is the one who at one point gains it’s approval since she turns out to be the bigger animal lover and Fennexis and her are both temperamental so somehow they get along, leaving Minato struggling alone since he’s at this rate the only one who the fox growls at to stay away when it snuggle itself into Kushina’s and your lap whilst you two are together. But it’s not like he can kick the fox out since for some him unknown reason Kushina and the darling love the little one very much when in reality the Pokémon is such a smug and mischievous little thing. It’ll probably will never fully like him, no matter how hard Minato might try.
Temari
Tumblr media
🌪Much more stricter when it comes to training her darling what they might have missed in regards of fighting skills due to their foreign roots. She doesn’t express her interest and curiosity in regards of the new system as strong as Minato and Kushina do, but she definitely wants to listen to the stories of her darling and what things were like in their old hometown and continent. Especially the concept of trapping their so called Pokémon in a ball and throw them out of it whenever they’re needed is quite fascinating, not to mention that back in your country people fought with them instead of using any jutsus.
🌪Doesn’t know exactly how to feel at the beginning about your Lucario that has gone through everything with you since she has a hard time estimating it. The Pokémon is far more of a mysterious case to her, very quiet and not interacting much with others. Hearing from you that it’s able to sense feelings and the personality of someone and only trust those that have a good heart made her realize that you must be in that case indeed a very good person when a Lucario has such a close bond to you. At the same time it has her wondering whether the Lucario appears to be so cautious around her because she is obsessed with you.
🌪There is no doubt that this is one of the reasons your Lucario is so incredibly iffy around her, the feeling of uncertainty how to feel about it’s friends lover is mutual. On the one hand Temari has a strong sense of duty and responsibility, she is respectful and would never hurt someone as long as she has no reason to do so. She is strong and ready to protect those she cares about with everything she has yet her darker side isn’t something Lucario can overlook since it includes you. Both of them…act somewhat careful around each other, on the one hand not having complete faith in each other on the other hand also knowing that they seem to share the important similarity that both of them love and care deeply for you. That is what strikes them to work together if you were to be in any danger and they make a terrifying team.
Naruto Uzumaki & Hinata Hyuga
Tumblr media
🍜💘They’re both sweethearts so they will try to be as gentle as possible when explaining to their darling that searching for new Pokémon in here won’t do any good, looking on how they are no such creatures in the Land of Fire or any surrounding nation. Both feel bad about it since you were so ambitious after having spent months traveling to this new continent in the highest hopes of discovering new species in here. They’re both a bit worried that after breaking the news down, fearing you might leave, even though Naruto with his greater delusions calms Hinata by saying you love them so you wouldn’t do that. Training with them…is a bit slower since both are worried, especially Naruto, that you’ll hurt yourself.
🍜💘Yet when they’re introduced to your best friend and spoken Greninja, both are shocked to see just how much that frog-like creature reminds them of an actual shinobi. Reflexes, speed and agility is something that the Pokémon possesses better than some actual shinobi and Naruto might feel a tad bit jealous. Despite everything even as a Hokage Naruto is still a very competitive person, specifically since he is a attention-seeker for his s/o who dedicates so much time training with Greninja and getting even stronger. Hinata is more intimidated at first, but she attempts to get closer to your frog since your friend is her friend and she has come to notice that it’s limitlessly loyal to you and would do everything to protect you. Naruto acknowledges this as well, but he wouldn’t admit it out loud.
🍜💘Your friend here has to notice the red flags most likely as well, though it comes to be more careful around Naruto than around Hinata since it believes Naruto to be the intense one. With Hinata it kind of clicks faster, being more of a gentleman/gentlewoman around her as she is still a fine and young lady. The frog constantly offers to help her with the household chores and with time Hinata fully accepts the frog as a part of the family. The relationship between Greninja and Naruto is far more of an interesting one to say the least. The Hokage seems to constantly want to challenge the Pokémon, envying it for the praise it gets from you and Hinata for being such a well-behaved and skilled being. He kind of bickers with it as well, though he is the only one who appears to be petty whilst your friend always keeps calm and a stoic face, agitating Naruto only more and making him feel like he’s being mocked. In reality the ninja-like frog holds respect for Naruto, having seen how much of a hard-working and ambitious person he is.
Gaara
Tumblr media
🐼As the Kazekage he welcomes this weird new visitor at the beginning with a bit more caution since he was informed about the peculiar stuff they were talking about, not to mention the exotic animal they were carrying around. Once he was being informed about your reason to come here and where you came from to begin with, he calmed down though he had to explain to you as well that you wouldn’t find what you were searching for in here. And looking on how disappointed you were afterwards, he made you the offer to stay a bit longer so the whole travel at least wouldn’t be for nothing. His s/o is simply just so refreshing with their personality and their many new stories, Gaara finds himself becoming smitten very quickly.
🐼The boy is unsure how to act around Espeon since very similar to Temari, he has troubles figuring it’s personality out. The animal has such a mature and knowing aura around it that Gaara can’t help but feel like it would be insulting to treat it like a completely ordinary pet. This creature he has intelligence, lots of it and the skills and abilities it possesses aren’t a joke either. What terrifies him most would most likely be the fact that it’s loyalty for it’s trainer has driven this Pokémon to learn the ability to presage in order to keep them safe from misfortune.
🐼Yet Espeon never seems to view him as bad luck for it’s trainer, for Gaara relief and Schock for the same time. He’s more on a aware side as well so he always had his doubts whether his feelings are a threat for you or not so he might just allow himself to calm down after this. It’s not like Espeon has complete faith in him, it just doesn’t see him as any potential danger in the moment so that is why it is relatively relaxed around the Kazekage. The guy loves you to death, that much is clear for Espeon and since you love him dearly as well, it will tolerate and settle with the new life for as long until it predicts anything bad. Actually goes out it’s way to bond with Gaara before he does so anyone who were to come to visit his office would most likely be greeted by the sight of a purple-colored animal lying somewhere around.
Fuu
Tumblr media
🐛She certainly gets excited over pretty much every new visitor in her small and more isolated person, especially when she spots her darling with the foreign insect that constantly flies around them. It only boosts her curiosity and she will be definitely one of the first people to quickly approach her darling and offer them to take her to the village. Even if Shibuki were to disagree, she’d definitely beg him to allow you to stay in here for at least a while, it isn’t everyday she gets to meet new people after all. Additionally Fuu is a Yandere who will take a quick liking to her darling. You can bet that she’d probably want to travel back to your country to see those Pokémon for herself, but at the very latest that is something Shibuki won’t allow.
🐛Having only your stories, books and drawings about the creatures living in your country, your Vivillon is the only real example she has for a living Pokémon. And hearing from how close you and the butterfly are, Fuu only strives to have a similar good relationship with your Pokémon. She’s in general a person who wants to befriend everyone she sees, this butterfly here is surely no exception at all. Constantly ends up talking to Vivillon, mainly about you and how much she loves you and it’s no rare sight that she is seen chasing playfully after the butterfly whenever you two are around and it accompanied you two.
🐛Vivillon is maybe someone to get quickly attached to Fuu as well since she is one of the purest sweeties someone can really only find. Both will end up being good friends in little to no time and even if Vivillon should feel differently, Fuu will probably still nominate it for her best friend. Her obsession and dangerous tendencies are extremely low and almost never there to show themselves and that will put the Pokémon into so much ease up to the point where it might not even realize. So it has little to no problem letting Fuu be it’s trainer’s girlfriend, flapping always right over your heads and sometimes resting on them as well. Fuu was extremely happy the very first time she had the butterfly sitting on her head, taking it as a sign that the two of them were friends.
Miruko
Tumblr media
🐇It was really just pure coincidence that she happened to save her darling on that one day where they arrived in Japan and got right away involved into a small villain attack. It was thanks to Miruko that they were quickly captured yet she arrived late enough to be met by the surprising sight of a small bunny about to pummel the villain before she sent them flying with a kick of hers. Might just be the first time for you seeing a hero in real life and the fact that her features reminded you of your own Pokémon was a lucky bonus as well so you probably got quickly curious about her. Miruko was interested as well since she couldn’t help the amusement upon seeing a literal rabbit about to beat a small villain. And you were the owner, weren’t you?
🐇Thinks that Bunnelby is the best Pokémon out there and she stays firmly with that belief of hers. It might really just be that she has a Bunny Quirk herself and loved the bunny Pokémon so much for that, though it’s partially also because this is your friend. It’s going to be her new pet without a doubt as soon as you two move in together and she’s a proud owner. Miruko actually played with the thought of making the small rabbit her new partner in hero work before her darling hastily stopped her, not exactly feeling comfortable with the thought of letting their small friend join, though Bunnelby is a formidable opponent. Miruko accepts that, she likes the fluffy fellow of yours very much as well and in the end it is still your rabbit. The image probably never leaves her head fully though.
🐇The connection between those due to the similar features and abilities might just be the same for Bunnelby as well. It’s kind of frightened at the beginning since Miruko’s confidence can be a bit overwhelming from time to time, but it will see her as a fellow comrade after a bit of time. When looking at her, it is probably reminded of his own race and that is what increases his trust faster, much more since you as it’s trainer seem to like this person as well. The rabbit hero ends up designing a completely new garden and room for the Pokémon to feel comfortable and dig with it’s ears tunnels to rest in when it’s tired.
Erza Scarlet
Tumblr media
🛡She has met many people in her life and despite her intimidating first impression, Erza has a heart made out of gold. So when she spotted her darling at first, seemingly searching very confused for something, she offered her help in finding what they were looking for. Like this she got to know that they were from abroad, had decided to start a living here and were very excited about this new life. Growing closer with her darling and falling in love with them, she made them at one point the offer to join Fairy Tail and practicing magic.
🛡She might just have confused a Pokémon for a Celestial Spirit when she first saw you defending yourself with yours only to find out later that it wasn’t completely the same and that in your hometown many had at least one of such creatures which were friends and comrades for lifetime. Falls almost instantly in love with Sylveon after, it’s just such a cute and precious friend to have. Everyone in the Guild probably had the same reaction, everyone loves Sylveon so everyone kind of wishes to be allowed to spend time with it. It’s gentle, pretty and just such a sweet thing and since Erza is your girlfriend and you let her watch over your friend every once in a while, Erza takes this job of hers extremely serious.
🛡The friendship is mutual between the Pokémon and Erza since it quickly sees that Erza is a really friendly and kind person and for that spends often time together with the Mage. Often wraps it’s ribbon-shaped feelers around Ezra’s arm to pull her somewhere, mostly just wanting to take a short walk with her and when the girls went into her room, they often spotted her lying on the bed and Sylveon right on her back, watching whatever she is doing at the moment. Literally bought a whole set of things for the Pokémon and you simply because Erza adores both of you so much.

Comfort Headcannons
Tumblr media
Hey, I am Rae! Written below is a couple comfort headcanons I wrote. The two links below are the songs I listened to while writing along with the trigger warnings, please read them carefully. Appreciate you!
🚫Reader is experiencing an extended emotional low, gender of reader is not specified, boob/peck mentioned(non`sexualy), and Kankuro has a potty mouth.
Let me know if you think any Trigger Warnings should be added, if it could benefit you or anyone you know, I would love to add them.
💽Dark Read(Slowed) by: Steve Lacy
💽Time Moves Slow by:BadBadNotGood
Tumblr media
🛠Kankuro is constantly telling you where he is going to be; Just incase. "Babe, I am going down stairs,- stomp if you need me." He doesn't know what emergency could possibly happen in the minutes or hours he is gone; but if he leaves it to his morbid imagination, it would be terrible. "I'm gonna take a shit, then a nap. Yell if you need me, I could be here in like 3 seconds. Well, make it like 5 and a quarter seconds if I'm still on the pot.-"
🛠His youth was hectic and as a result he is on edge, not in fear of his safety but for your well being. "You going to be alright, or nah?" He whole heartedly thinks he has a sixth sense when it comes to you. You can assure him, you'll be fine, but he think he knows better. You'll catch him making excuses not to go places or do certain things or hang out with certain people. But only his close circle will hear the truth.
🛠"Nope, gonna go home early today, Gaara." He sighs and stuffs his hands in his pockets and leans back on his heals, "No, nothings wrong or anything, just think my Babe is having a bad day." He likes that Gaara and Temari are so invested in your well being and asking questions, "No, they didn't mention anything this morning, but I fuckin know it, somethings wrong, I just got that feeling while we were in the negotiations this morning."
🛠Temari doesn't have the heart to tell him that the feeling is just anxiety and Gaara doesn't know any better.
🛠When he sees you emotional he not surprised but still terrified. Stopping over to where you are, "What's wrong with you?" Grabbing your arms in a gentle but firm grip, lifting them up and over your head so he can inspect them. Rolling down your sleeves, or pulling up the back of your shirt so he can see your spine and shoulder blades. Pulling you along and checking you over the way you would a china doll or a puppet. If you don't respond right away or deny it, he is literally grabbing your leg, bending your knee, and checking your ankles, doing the most.
🛠"Why are you upset?"holding your chin with one hand and feeling the temp of your forehead with the other, before turning your face side to side to look for bruises or cuts. He is whiping your face clean and looking around the house, moving quick."Why the hell didn't you send for me? I could have been here!" Walks around opening random doors and looking around as if a burglar is chilling in your broom closet, or sadness hiding on the top shelf of your pantry.
🛠when you tell him he gets super into it; his reactions are animated and expressive. Every sentence is a cliff hanger for him and he has to react because he wants you to know he is invested in you.
🛠"So, like, what are we gonna do about it?"
🛠He is the type to get upset if the answer is "nothing." Cause there is always a plan in his head, always an obvious answer. 'If this happens we do this' or 'if that happened than we won't do that,' if the head is blown off one of his puppets, he makes the head into a rocket loncher. Boom planed and executed. He is frustrated when he can fix whatever has you down, he is used the being in control and pulling the strings. It scares him to think that your health, happiness, and life's problems can't be solved by a tug of a string.
🛠His childhood was only about bettering his craft and planning ahead so things that aren't logic based always stump him, he doesn't know how to comfort you in every situation. He has close family he can rely on though.
🛠When things are especially difficult for him to understand or respond to he will tell Temari or Gaara, they understand his struggles and could give helpful advise, sometimes.
🛠It can get you in strange situations though, Gaara told him that you releasing frustration could help, and Tamari told him he doesn't spend enough time with you, his sensei said you were being moody and needed more sleep. He didn't agree with any of them, but he tries for you.
🛠He comes home with new plates, picture frames, and pottery. Then strategically works it into conversation that you have too many of A, B, and C; what should you do? He then is like, "Wouldn't it be cool if we, like, smashed all of the old plates? Sounds like fun to me... Who knows, it could help relieve some... frustration... maybe?"
🛠He wants you to know that he still likes you, even when you are unhappy, he and Gaara where shafted as children when they weren't perfectly agreeable. He wants you to know that his love isn't conditional, that is what he is trying to get across to you. Especially when acting out Temari's advice. Instead, what you get is Kankuro suddenly remembering that he hasn't see you in 15minutes, so he is putting down a puppet, sprinting upstairs, and standing in the doorway, all weird like. "Hey, I still love you." He nods to himself, "and I'd still love you if you were a little bit more of an asshole to, just a heads up." He then turns around and goes back down stairs.
🛠He even follows his sensei's advice even though he thought it was stupid. That night and every night for a while he asks, "What's good?" And he wants to hear about every thought you had that day, important ot not. No one was there to listen to him when he was a kid. His father was shit, his sister was struggling herself, and Gaara had the emotional understanding of an infant. He wants to understand you and you understand his thoughts and responses. After the long talk he will ask, "Am I doing this right?"
🛠"Am I doing this how you want?" Should he be nicer? Should he stop trying so hard? Should he stop smothering you? Should he really trust his own instincs? Would it be wrong to hold you now? He has never been close to others the way he is and wants to be with you. He honestly doesn't know, "Is this what you wanted, could you tell me if you needed something else?" Your comfort is his comfort and he wants you to feel better so he can be better.
🛠He takes comfort differently than most but still knows what it should feel like. He will be the big spoon and wrap his arm around you to grab your peck/boob, it is warm, soft to the touch, and he can feel your heartbeat. And if he can do something to take your mind off of the trouble, even for a second, he will. This is something only he can do, something special he earned the right to, something intimate and comfortable. His hand kneads and massages is you in his sleep, as if hes pulling strings.
🛠He complains to his siblings and sensei about how dumb he feels for trusting their strange advice, and they blame him for applying it incorrectly but apologize anyway.
🛠 Gaara sends flowers, Temari sends letters and a meal, Baki sends a half assed apology, but best of all- Kankuro's two nephews send hand made cards. They say strange things like: "Uncle Kank stinks but I hope your happy." Or "Get well soon even if you're not sick"
🛠Kankuro nearly cries over the messages his loved ones send with him, "Listen, I know I'm all shity with feelings but you're loved." He says it quietly, holding you close, whispering it into the shell of your ear, like it is a dirty secret. "yeah, you're loved by a bunch of weirdos, but like, take what you can get."- It isn't a secret, he tells everyone he meets you're his one special person and all of his homicidal family loves you to, and if he didn't say it, people would still know.
🛠probably by the purple face paint slightly smeared off his lips from when he kissed you last, or the practically permanent purple stain on the back of your neck from him cuddling you before his shower.

Dead end
Tanjirou has come to the conclusion that running away towards the big city was a mistake. He's never seen so many people before; it's overwhelming. Nezuko is grabbing his hand hard, almost painfully, although Tanjirou has learned to endure pain in the two years that he stayed with Urokodaki.
Nezuko pulls, managing to draw his attention away from the bakery and back to her. Almost desperately, she makes a few gestures with her hands, pointing in the direction of the mountain.
He sighs, feeling sad inside; he'd like to hear her voice again, but she has refused to speak a word since their family was killed. He's never pressed her though.
"You know we can't go back," Tanjirou mumbles, feeling bad for causing her sorrow. "I miss him too, but you know they're looking for us so he'll probably be safer alone."
Sighing, Nezuko nods, hugs his brother and keeps walking next to him, trying not to collide with the people around and holding his hand.
She's not the only one wishing they could go back, he's constantly thinking about it. Once he thought they could be happy there, in that small village with Urokodaki, but for some reason the people that killed their family also wanted to kill them both.
Tanjirou doesn't understand; Urokodaki said the man behind it was the leader of a crime syndicate and that his name was Muzan. There were two crime groups in Japan; the one led by Kibutsuji and the other by nine people who were called the hashira.
"The Pillars are skilled swordsmen; you'll never find people more capable than them in combat," Urokodaki explained one night. "But they're also dangerous in their own ways."
Urokodaki taught him how to fight with a katana during those two years; he insisted it was necessary in case Kibutsuji came back for him (and he was right).
However, since the katana was Urokodaki's Tanjirou left it behind, instead he brought an axe and hoped for the best.
Nezuko stops; she's blinking, trying to stay awake. They're both tired and hungry and even though Tanjirou would love to get something to eat, he needs to find a place where they both can spend the night first.
Tomorrow he needs to get a job.
His money is not enough to pay for a night in the first place they find. Tanjirou offers himself for any kind of job, but the owner claims he doesn't need more employees at the moment.
"I know a place where you can get money though," he grins, looking over his shoulder. "If you're willing to let your girl work."
Confused, he looks up at the man, who steps into the light to look closely at him.
"I also know a place for pretty boys like you," he adds, taking Tanjirou's chin. "Someone like you can get more than a few coins for spending a night with–"
Moving away from the man, as Tanjirou starts to blush, he runs away from there as quickly as possible.
"I think this was a mistake," he tells Nezuko.
He definitely doesn't like the city.
The second place they arrive to is even worse, not because of how it looks, but due to what they find out when they get there.
"I'm not sure," the woman mumbles, eyeing at them both. "I haven't seen you around here before. The hashira have strict rules when it comes to people from outside the city."
"The hashira?" Tanjirou shivers, feeling suddenly exposed; he looks around, nervous.
"This city belongs to them."
They need to go back immediately. Grabbing Nezuko's hand, he begins to run in the opposite direction, however in his desperation he ends up in a dark alley with a dead end.
"Alright. We just need to turn around," he mumbles, feeling nervous.
"The boy with the hanafuda earrings!" A voice says, amusement ringing in it. "Finally! My Lord Kibutsuji will be happy when I bring your head to him!"
There's a boy with her as well. He's carrying a couple of daggers while she's bouncing two temari in her hands.
"They're coming after me," he mumbles, almost in relief. "Listen, Nezuko, I want you to hide and wait for the perfect opportunity to run away. I'll try to distract them."
Nezuko narrows her eyes, she's fuming, angry at the thought of leaving him behind. She gestures something about never leaving him.
Even though he appreciates it, Tanjirou would've preferred her to choose running away.
However, there's no time to argue. He turns around with the axe in his hand, but a temari passes right over his shoulder. At first Tanjirou believes the girl missed, but when he hears Nezuko's scream and sees her fall to the ground he almost runs towards her.
He can't, there's no time. He charges at the girl quickly, dodging a temari as he runs, only to realize that the boy plans to stab Nezuko even though she's unconscious on the ground.
Without thinking twice, he throws the axe and cuts the boy's arm off; Tanjirou doesn't really like hurting others, but if Nezuko's life is in danger, he knows he'll do anything to keep her safe.
Even though the boy is bleeding because of the wound, he still tries to attack Tanjirou again.
The girl cackles in such a way before running towards his fallen sister at the same time the other tries to reach him, Tanjirou knows he will only have the time to block her attack.
But then, from the roof of the house next to the alley a shadow jumps in front of the Kamado siblings. The young man doesn't say a word as he moves his katana with such ability that it makes impossible for Tanjirou to follow the attack. In the blink of an eye he cuts their heads without even uttering a word.
They both fall to the ground, making Tanjirou gasp and think how glad he is that Nezuko is unconscious at the moment. Quickly, he gets closer and doesn't think too much before taking her in his arms. He wonders if he could run past the swordsman and back into the noisy streets.
However, the young man turns around and looks back at him. Tanjirou curls over Nezuko, trying to protect her with his own body.
"I'm not gonna hurt you or your sister, Tanjirou," he says, surprising him. The young man has black, long hair and blue eyes that don't let any emotion to be reflected in them. Well, perhaps... irritation. They're shadowed with it at the moment. "You should've stayed with Urokodaki."
"How do you know that? How do you know my name?" Tanjirou asks, flinching away when he sees the man with the mismatched haori moving his katana quickly to clean it up. When it's back into its saya, he allows himself to relax... just a little.
"I'm Tomioka Giyuu," he introduces himself, moving even closer. "I'm the one who saved you that day."
No... That's not possible. Well, Tanjirou only remembers falling on the snow from exhaustion, looking for a place where someone could patch her sister up and then... nothing.
He woke up in Urokodaki's house the next day. He just assumed...
"Come with me."
Before he can say anything, two people arrive to the scene; Tanjirou imagines them screaming and calling the police, but instead of even glancing in the corpses' direction, they bow in front of Tomioka respectfully.
"Clean the area," he mumbles and both man and woman nod, before using bandages to cover the corpses completely.
Tomioka is... He must be...
"I'm afraid you and your girl got in trouble in the wrong city, sweet boy," a young woman with a haori that reminds him of butterfly wings chuckles. Tanjirou notices that she's also carrying a sword, although it looks like a small one. "You're in hashira territory now. And you brought Kibutsuji's assassins here. Now you must face all the Pillars."
"Please... I just need to get my sister to a doctor. I promise we'll go after that and you'll never see us again."
"It's too late now," she grins gently at him at the same time Tomioka walks in the middle of them. "Oh? You've broken a few rules already, Giyuu. Do you want to break more?"
"Shinobu, he's... I'm sure they won't cause us any more trouble if we let them–"
"He needs to be judged by all the hashira, Tomioka," another young swordsman appears out of nowhere, he has a white snake around his neck; his mouth is covered.
Tomioka nods, knowing they don't have a choice now, but he gets closer to Tanjirou as if trying to shield him from the other two.
"Come," he says, as kindly as possible.
"But Nezuko is bleeding..."
"Don't worry," Shinobu smiles, clapping her hands together. "I'll take care of that."
Two people arrive and pry Nezuko away from Tanjirou. He tries to fight them, but Tomioka puts a strong hand over his shoulder to stop him.
"She'll be fine," he assures him.
However, Tanjirou knows that he's completely trapped now; if they have Nezuko he won't have other choice but to do as they say.
***
The house they walk in is huge. Tanjirou ends up sitting on the floor in a room with dim light and a table in the middle. Tomioka and Shinobu get in the room right next to it.
They don't even tell him to stay; they must know he would never leave without his sister.
He's worried, however, he doesn't get scared until he catches a few sentences of the conversation.
"See? Giyuu is putting his life at risk for them."
"That doesn't mean anything, Tengen! They mean trouble if Kibutsuji is after them."
"We're not afraid of him, Sanemi."
"No, we're not, but we also don't interfere in other people's problems."
"Besides, why do we do with Tomioka? He hid them from us all this time."
"Obanai has a point!"
"I saw the girl! She's so pretty! Is her the one you're doing this for, Giyuu? That's so romantic!"
"It's the boy, Mitsuri," Shinobu is the only voice Tanjirou recognizes because Tomioka hasn't said anything yet. Still, nothing they've been saying makes any sense to him. The only thing he's sure about is that he's in trouble. "He's doing this for Tanjirou."
"Now I'm curious, Kocho."
"Let's see him then!"
The door slides open and Tanjirou doesn't have time to react when nine people walk inside. All of them are carrying katanas.
He looks down, but a huge hand grabs him by the chin to make him look up at them.
"Hey! Be careful!"
"Calm down, Giyuu. You know me, I'd never hurt such a pretty thing like this one," the one speaking has white hair tied up in a ponytail and what it looks like a headband with a couple of gemstones all over it. His eyes are deep pink. He's one of the tallest among them.
"Come on, stand up, my boy. Let us see you!" Another says, putting both arms over his shoulders, lifting him like he weighed nothing to help him stand. His voice is loud, although the thing that surprises him the most about him is his hair and eyes. They're like fire: yellow and red. It's really difficult for Tanjirou to look away from him. "I'm Rengoku Kyojuro!"
"Kamado Tanjirou," he mumbles, after a couple of them introduce themselves.
"I want to keep him," Tokito says after a while. Uzui looks back at him with amusement.
"He's my responsibility now."
"I'm sorry, Giyuu, but you know the rules here. You too, Muichiro," Rengoku grins, cupping Tanjirou's face in his hands. Even though he knows he's in front of one of the leaders of a crime syndicate, he feels safe for a couple of seconds. "If we keep him, he's going to be under everyone's protection."
"What about Nezuko? Is she going to be alright? Will you protect her as well?"
Rengoku nods, stroking Tanjirou's hair. Right next to him, Tomioka's shoulders tense.
"Of course, but you owe us now, Tanjirou."
That's all it takes to remind himself that he's in front of dangerous people.
"I understand, I'll do my best to–"
"I can pay off his debt," Tomioka offers, surprising Tanjirou again.
"You know we don't want money, Giyuu," Shinobu says, waving her hand dismissively.
"And we want nothing from you," Tokito adds, almost bored.
"What do you want?" Tanjirou asks, nervous, even though he notices that a few of them are looking down at him with a fond expression.
Without giving him any warning, Uzui takes him in his arms, prompting Tanjirou to wrap his arms and legs around him out of instinct.
"We want to welcome you to our family," the hashira grins, confusing him.
It's hard to see them as dangerous criminals when they act like that.
"I'll introduce you to my wives..."
"Wait! I want to see Nezuko."
"Of course, my boy!" Rengoku nods, taking him away from Uzui who pouts immediately. Tomioka looks irritated, but he follows them close anyway.
She's not awake yet, but she looks much better now. She has a bandage all around her forehead and new clothes. Two girls are right there taking care of her, as soon as they see the hashira though, they start bowing nervously.
Rengoku puts Tanjirou on the bed and the boy leans to take one if Nezuko's hand in his. Tomioka kneels next to him.
"You'll be safe here, Tanjirou. I'll protect you."
He nods, feeling better despite of knowing his mother would never have approved of something like that. But what other choice does he have? If being with the hashira means Nezuko can be safe, then he'll accept it.
"You selfish, stubborn bastard! Didn't you hear, Giyuu?" Shinazugawa huffs. "We will protect the siblings from now own. Tanjirou owes us now. He's ours."
"I thought you were against this arrangement, Sanemi," Uzui chuckles, prompting the other to growl at him.
"I'm a Pillar. If the majority has decided that he's worth the risk, then he is worth it."
Even though he doesn't like when they don't mention Nezuko, part of him is glad that they consider the debt is only Tanjirou's to pay.
That way she can be free as soon as Kibutsuji stops hunting them or dies.
"No one will hurt you again," Rengoku promises, leaning enough for their foreheads to touch. His eyes are intense. "They're too afraid of us to even try."
Tanjirou is not sure, but something tells him that Muzan is not going to give up that easy.

Could you do a Kankuro relationship headcannon 🥺
Hi, yes I can! My first Kankuro request, I’m so excited. Hope you enjoy♡♡♡
Kankuro Relationship Headcanons
[modern!au]
Tumblr media
When Kankuro first developed feelings for you, he was so annoyed with himself. He didn’t think he would ever settle down with someone and honestly, he didn’t want to. That was, of course, before he met you. You disrupted all his plans
He doesn’t showcase his love in typical ways like constantly saying “I love you” for example, it’s just sort of unnatural for him. However, I do think his love language is acts of service. He enjoys taking time out of his day to make your life easier. He’ll wake up early to make you breakfast, make sure you car has a gas in it, run to the store to grab whatever you need etc, etc,
He also values quality time. His favorite part of the day is when he gets to curl up on the couch with you and watch netflix. He’s not the biggest fan of cuddling but he will have his arm around you and occasionally lean his head into your neck. If you’re ever too busy to spend that time with him, be prepared for his attitude. Kankuro just really loves spending time with you!
In public, he’s cocky and short tempered but with you he’s such a baby! He craves your attention and affection.
Be prepared for all his teasing, he just finds it hilarious to get under your skin. Don’t worry, he’ll make it up to you with kisses if he catches you pouting
It absolutely melts his heart to see you getting along so well with his siblings. He’ll catch you laughing with Gaara or Temari with complete heart eyes and a smile tugging at his lips
He doesn’t want to seem like a simp but you’re on his mind 24/7. He can’t help but to think about you, especially if you’re not in his vicinity
Kankuro is always grateful for your love and hopes he can make you feel the same way you make him feel!

Naruto Arts School AU
Tumblr media
Reposting bc I love this post and bc I can lol
Character
- major
description
Naruto
-Drums
okie nobody can deny that our main boy over here is a loud soul, however, he can also carry a damn good beat that compliments his band mates’ music really well. Tbh, he sucked at music to begin with and had trouble matching rhythms and listening to his band mates when they played, however he eventually became a really good rhythm maker.
Sasuke
-Guitar (lead)
He’d be assigned to the same band as Naruto, and that’s how they met. This boy is a damn good guitarist y’all, but has attitude problems™, and used to not be able to deal with Naruto’s haphazard beat making, thus perpetuating a rivalry between the two. He constantly feels overshadowed by his elder brother Itachi, a piano major.
Sakura
- Dance
Ya girl fucking demolishes every single dance routine. Initially starting out with a focus on ballet (pre-shippuden in canon), our pink headed queen soon realized that she wasn’t getting the full experience of what it meant to dance. Her point shoes were her loves, however they hurt and nipped in places not just physical. She realized that she didn’t want to be pigeonholed into a genre of which she would be inhibited by standard, and rather to dance so as to forget technical perfection. Thus, what would partner with post-shippuden Sakura in canon, Art School AU Sakura got into hip-hop. And bitch, she goes hard. A lot of the other girls who she used to dance ballet with admire her for her absolutely BODYING her dance routines, but also for never sacrificing her femininity to dance and not taking BS for being a girl who goes so hard in a male-dominated genre. (Some people believe that hip-hop is heavy hitting and a little metaphorically “dark” so to speak, which Sakura is not. So obviously I expect a little disagreement regarding this, however if you look at people like Delaney Glazer or Kaycee Rice, that is how Sakura would dance).
Hinata
- Creative Writing
Shy and bookworm-like, Hinata can write the best poetry, romance and adventure pieces out of all the creative-writing majors. She’s especially good at writing character relationships and development, and has such a subtle sense of intelligent wit in her writing, that if you blinked you would miss it. However should you catch it, you’re sure to chuckle. Her only struggle is that she tends to drag on in important scenes, stretching them against the regular flow of the rest of her writing. Needs validation for her writing through an IV drip.
Kiba
- Drums OR Photography
Drums for obvious reasons (loud and obnoxious), although ruff boi looks good with a camera, too. Great at landscapes and street photography.
Shino
- Creative Writing OR Photography
I could definitely see Shino having fucking beautiful handwriting, and being a beast at writing anything within the sci-fi realm. I could also see him doing some journalism, and writing for the school paper. He’s very good at the logic of his sci-fi books and coming up with logical but enrapturing stories, that intermingle knowledge and mystery. He’s a very specific type of read, however, and may not appeal to all, however if you enjoy anything similar to Star Wars or Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, then Shino is your author. If this doesn’t float your boat, though, try photography-major Shino. He can get the best angles of bugs he sees, and has an extensive portfolio with entomology-related snapshots.
Ino
- Dance
Like Sakura, she, too, began with a focus on ballet, however began to branch out into contemporary ballet a little later than Sakura. This is another reason why Sakura switched her focuses, as she and Ino had always had a fierce rivalry for dieting (ballet dancers are pressured to be as thin as possible) as well as battling for technical perfection when they were ballet focused. As the two grew, Ino focused more so on contemporary, but can certainly do some hip-hop with Sakura every now and then, just as Sakura occasionally takes a contemporary class with her. The two still have a rivalry, however, just not to the previous extent as when they were actively competing against each other. They’re more like sisters.
Shikamaru
- Guitar (bass) OR Creative Writing OR Architecture
Smart boy’s a tricky one. He would either be a bassist, a mystery and historical fiction writer, or, of his school offers it, be great at architecture. Idrk.
Choji
- ermmmmm….. maybe graphic design? Tech theatre (props)? Vocal???
Choji is hARD dwnccnpc (that’s what she said). I could see him behind a computer screen, animating and designing games/covers/posters or whatever. He could also do something in theatre, but I don’t think he would do anything up on stage. Something like props would suit him. He might do something in music, tho???? Can he sing???? Help???
UPDATE: Choji is a band kid. He plays tuba or some shit. Big boy got big lungs.
Tenten
- Dance
Always has been, and always will be a hip-hop dancer. She wanted to be like Tsunade, a legendary dancer and followed in her footsteps, taking up hip-hop. (that’s why Sakura focused on hip-hop, too, because Tsunade mentored her and taught a few of her classes, too). Tenten is fast and can keep up with any beat. Not only is she a great dancer, but she’s also athletic, and does track and field (cross country), football, and softball at another school too, since the arts schools doesn’t offer it. Overall great dancer with styl. She’s really looked up to by some of her underclassmen for her cheery, but badass style and skill.
Lee
- DANCE (hip-hop, too)
It’s sweat. It’s burn. It’s energy. It’s Lee.
Neji
- Violin
First chair violinist in his freshman year for the school’s philharmonic orchestra. He be extra like that.
Gaara
- Guitar (bass)
He had a lonely childhood with neglectful/abusive parents, and rock music really helped him with that. Emo music is emo and often made fun of, but the songs have messages and Gaara related, so self-taught himself the bass guitar to help cope, and bring him closer to the music that salvaged him.
Kankuro
-Art
Specifically sculpting. For obvious reasons.
Temari
- Acting
Girl can make you cry with some of her monologues. Total lead. Has a seriousness in her acting that makes her believable, however can falter on the less-serious roles. She may also double-major in whatever Shikamaru does. And she’s better at it than him.
Itachi
-Piano
Boy could play any etude at age 7. Performed at Carnegie Hall when he was 10. And no, he didn’t pay to play there. The hall invited him. Began composing at 9. Has perfect pitch. Owns international awards. If he’s not at school it’s because he’s traveling to play for crowds. He excels at classical and baroque, however has an ear for romantic, and enjoys playing/composing pieces either written or inspired by romantic pieces. Enjoys Schumann, Debussy, and Tchaikovsky. Hates modern classical music, though. Can only take cinematic pieces composed by people like Williams, however can’t stand Prokofiev at all. He does like modern music, though, so long as it’s outside of the orchestral/classical music realm. He likes R&B. He would have liked to do film with Shisui, particularly producing, however his parents pressure him with piano, so he helps Shisui with student films and projects outside of school (will probably pursue film after graduating, tho).
Shisui
- FILM / VIDEO PRODUCTION
Fight me on this!!! THIS BOY IS SO GOOD AT CINEMATOGRAPHY MY FILMMAKING ASS CAN’T EVEN. AS SOMEONE WHO IS IN LOVE WITH FILMOGRAPHY, TRUST ME, SHISUI HAS IT™. THE IT™. HE’S GOOD AT EVERYTHING. CINEMATOGRAPHY. DIRECTING. SCREENWRITING. GRIP-WORK. EDITING. PRODUCING. HE’S SUCH A FILM NERD TOO, AND WATCHES OLD FILMS ALL THE TIME. HE’S JUST TOO GOOD AT IT. DOES STREET PHOTOGRAPHY TOO. HE’S OVERALL A GENIUS WITH CAMERAS. Does film with Itachi outside of school and teaches him, and the two are overall geniuses at filmography. They want to start their own studio together (they do, and it becomes huge). He becomes a leading director, while Itachi becomes a producer and directs sometimes too.
Sasori, Deidara, and Sai
Guess.
Kakashi
- Saxophone
It’s the only thing that suits him and it suits him so well. Has suave.
Obito (omfg his arms y'all)
- Not to say drums or anything, but…. drums.
Narutard 2.0. But he also dabbles in other areas of music. Like, he can also play guitar and sing. He’s also pretty good at music production. Makes R&B sometimes. He wasn’t always the best musician but proved to be a late bloomer, and really harnessed his potential. Tries to be as suave as Kakashi and his saxophone. He isn’t.
Hashirama
- Vocal
OkaYYYYYY. VOCAL GOD. CAN DO RIFFS AND RUNS AND HAS PERFECT PITCH. ALSO THE SWEETEST GUY??? WAS A CHAMBER SINGER AS A FRESHMAN. EVERYONE LOVES HIM, GOOD BOY ENERGY.
Likes to belt.
Madara
- Piano
Total prodigy, but hates classical music. Once was accompanist to Hashirama for a solo vocal performance and hasn’t been left alone since.
Tobirama
- Viola or Cello
Some sort of string instrument and takes it very seriously. Probably plays cello because violas are violas and that’s lame (if you know, you know). Has almost as many awards as Itachi and Madara, but hates his usual piano accompanist, Izuna.
Izuna
- Piano
Also a piano god. The uchihas breed them. Hates being accompanist for Tobirama. They’re secretly best friends though, don’t tell anyone.
Karin
- Tech Theatre.
Idk why. Probably started out with props and made her way up to TD (technical director) in senior year.
Suigetsu
- Tech Theatre
Fucking hates theatre kids. Assistant TD. Karin hates him.
Jugo
- Visual Art
Paints landscapes and nature. Really good with oils and gouache respectively.
Yamato
- lmao Trumpet.
Met Kakashi since they both play brass, but boy he ain’t got that suave. That’s why he plays trumpet. Lmao he plays the fucking trumpet anjdwcnojdnn.
Rin
- Vocal
Sweetest voice and could also play the acoustic guitar when she sang. Died in a car accident junior year. Kakashi was at the wheel when they got hit by a drunk driver. Obito saw the whole thing.
Kurenai
- Visual Art
Can create dream like paintings that almost seem like illusions.
Asuma
- Cello / guitar
Used to play cello because of his parents, but loves to play guitar. Can sing but his voice is raspy from smoking.
Gai
Who the fuck do you think teaches dance?
Jiraiya
- Guitar (lead)
Used to major in lead guitar. Sucked at first. Probably has a couple, casual Grammy Awards (they’re actually not that hard to be awarded with, The Recording Academy award many people outside of mainstream media. My school has a few). Now teachers as head of the Band department at this school.
Tsunade
-Dance
Legendary dancer. Probably toured with a few famous people. Now teaches. Mentored Sakura, and mentored Ino but for a shorter time.
Orochimaru
- Idk, didgeridoo, or some shit
Definitely a wood wind. Flute maybe??? Teaches now but no one knows what he does. Pedophile. Has a thing for Sasuke.

request : Haiii could I plz request a gaara fluff where ur from the hidden leaf but best friends with konkuro and have been trying to get close to gaara for so long but moody gaara refuses to warm up and the sand also gets in the way??? I've just got to the sai arc in shippeden plz no spoilers. \ (•◡•) /
::
I literally love this so much, thank you for requesting <3 and I hope you enjoy the rest of naruto! also I got carried away with the details so hopefully this isn't boring!
gaara was naturally a closed off person, and not only when it came to talking about personal things but also because his sand would constantly raise whenever something threatening got near him. because of this he was used to using his sand when someone or something got near him, even if it wasn't something that would harm him, it was just his instinct.
unfortunately that applied to you too, especially when you were trying to suprise him and give him a hug. kind of like right now, you were blocked by the sand that he pushed up. his eyes widened, a worried expression on his face. "are you okay?"
"yeah sorry about that! I heard you were coming so I got really excited."
your words visibly suprised gaara, you were excited to see him? he felt his face flush at the thought. every single time you guys saw each other he would end up pushing you away because he was scared. he liked you so much it actually hurt sometimes.
"how was your trip? I brought some food and water just in case you guys needed some."
gaara looked away, holding his hand over his cheeks in hopes of hiding how flustered he was. even though it was boring he wanted to tell you all about it, but he couldn't. "it was fine."
kankuro had his hands behind his head, whistling as he nudged gaara hard enough for him to take a couple steps forward. gaara glanced over at kankuro, "hey be-" but once gaara looked forward and saw you only inches away from him, he was wordless.
he felt his breath hitch, this was the closest he had ever been to you. you looked into his eyes, feeling your cheeks heat up. gaara took the time to look at all your features, his eyes quickly skimming all over and before long his cheeks were almost as red as his hair. he wanted to stay like that - he really did, but his nerves got the best of him and he ended up backing away, trying to come up with an excuse. "I-I have to go see naruto."
and with that he quickly walked away, temari not too far from him. and honestly what he said before wasn't really an excuse, he wanted to talk to naruto about how he felt towards you. he knew he liked you but he had no idea what to do about it. he hoped naruto could give him some advice.
watching him walk away, you sighed. "maybe he just hates me? kankuro am I annoying?"
kankuro couldn't help but snort, nodding in the process. "yeah you're annoying as hell." you lightly punched his chest, and he couldn't help but smile. "but all jokes aside gaara seems to really like you. trust me, being his brother and all I can tell. just bare with him, he'll come around soon."
your nodded and smiled to yourself. you didn't get sad or mad because of how closed off he was, especially since he had gone through so much. but instead you really wanted to be with him and cherish him, giving him all the love that he had missed out on.
kankuro put his arm around your shoulder, "c'mon, let's go eat something. but I swear to god if you tell me the story of how you fell in love with gaara one more time I'm leaving."
you rolled your eyes but even then you couldn't help but laugh. "just for that, I'll tell you again on the way there. it all started when gaara-"
"no!"
-----
"hmm, well you really like her right? ask her on a date to get to know her better!" naruto said with a grin on his face, patting his friends back.
gaara almost spit out the ramen he was eating, looking at naruto with wide eyes. he swallowed his food so quickly because he was overwhelmed. "d-date!?"
the blonde gave him a thumbs up, "you're a catch gaara, there's no way she'll say no."
gaara had a worried look on his face, thinking about how you would probably reject him. and there was no way he could ask you on a date, he didn't even answer your questions when you talked to him. and plus, after seeing sakura say no to naruto countless times, he couldn't help but be pessimistic about it.
naruto noticed how concerned he was. "if you're not up to asking her on a date then hug her. but make sure to not just do it right off the bat because you might scare her."
gaara was mentally taking notes, already feeling nervous. a hug huh? would you even want that from him? would you push him away? he had so many questions.
"oh! isn't that her?"
it was you, you were still walking around with kankuro. gaara saw you laugh and he loved it, he wanted you to always be happy. his cheeks were a light shade of pink but before long you were out of his sight and he sighed.
naruto couldn't help but laugh, "man you have it bad, you're totally in love! talk to her, you won't get anywhere by just staring."
gaara smiled to himself, thinking about your beautiful laugh once again. "but how?"
"after you're done with your ramen you can practice with my shadow clones!"
----
it was night time now, and gaara's mind was filled with thoughts of you as he gazed up at the moon. it wasn't only how beautiful you were, but more of how you treated him. you were always so nice and gentle with him, and you had never gotten scared of him or said anything mean to him. he felt at ease when he was in your presence, despite the nervousness that also came along with it. he wanted to stay with you, aside from naruto you were the only person that actually understood him.
he wanted to talk to you but he didn't really know how, when he was alone he would always come up with the best conversation starters but when you were in front of him he'd be wordless.
"oh gaara! I've been looking for you."
his eyes widened when he heard your voice and he looked back at you. you were alone with him, he couldn't handle it.
"for me?" gaara asked, his voice sounded a bit uneasy. he was so nervous, but he wanted to talk to you so he didn't run away this time.
"yeah, mind if I stay here with you?" you asked. he shook his head, unable to take his eyes away from you. you looked so beautiful in the moonlight and he was wordless for a while, which is why you decided to initiate a conversation.
"oh did you talk to naruto? I bet he took you to get some ramen!"
he smiled at the memory despite the fact that it happened a couple hours back. "yeah, it was really good." but then he remembered what they talked about and he felt his cheeks heat up.
"you should talk to her, you won't get anywhere by just staring."
and suddenly his heart was thumping in his chest, and it was now that he had the confidence to ask what he had been wondering about for a while now. "all I ever do is push you away and ignore you. so why are you so nice to me?"
despite being suprised at his words, your eyes were as kind as ever, a sweet smile forming on your face and he couldn't help but gasp softly when he saw it. even your words were gentle. "well it's simple, I really like you gaara! and I'd like to get closer to you, but I understand that it's probably difficult for you and that's completely fine."
words couldn't express how happy he felt at the moment, he was too nervous to speak. but then he thought back to what naruto had told him. "ask her on a date to get to know her better!"
"a d-date." he mumbled, so quiet that you couldn't even hear him. and yet his cheeks were flushed a pretty pink, his eyes on the floor so he wouldn't have to look at you. you cocked your head in confusion though, "huh?"
"a date!" he said, his voice considerably louder. "we could go on one."
he was still looking away so you cupped his face with you hands to get his attention. god, he was so cute. pink cheeks and wide eyes, his mouth slightly opened and he looks confused for some reason.
"it's a date then!"

A/N: So I wrote this instead of doing any of my psych assignments which is fine by me. Im a little bit rusty with one shots bc the last one I did was a Harry Potter angst with Draco and that was on a diff blog a few months back. Any who, enjoy and thank you for requesting!!
Request:  I would like to order a Gaara x Reader where Gaara and Reader are dating, but she is a Leaf Shinobi, and she she is always very talkative and smiling, but one day she is serious and quiet, and he is worried, but finds out that she is only concerned with something kind of silly, and then he is relieved and realizes that he really loves her.
✎ Worry (Gaara oneshot)
Tumblr media
You didn’t get to see your boyfriend all that often, being that you were a Leaf ninja, constantly on missions and he was a Kazekage, constantly protecting his village. However, whenever you did reunite it was always memorable. In fact, Gaara would be lying if he didn't count down the days to your arrival.
He always looked forward to seeing you. He would stand at the gate of his village, waiting for your body to slowly become visible through the winds of the blowing sand. He loved the face you would make when you finally discerned his shape in the distance: your eyes would brighten and a smile would spread rapidly across your face. Even if the journey was long, seeing him waiting there always gave you a burst of energy. You would then squint your eyes to shield them from the sand and run the rest of the distance towards him.
However, when Gaara spotted your figure in the distance today, you seemed a little tense. In fact, when you spotted him you didn't make that signature facial expression he loved so much or even start running towards him.
Something was off.
He watched you carefully as you got closer and frowned. He lacked a lot of emotional experience with others, but there was no denying that you looked worried.
Seeing you like that made him panic a little bit. Again, Gaara has never been very good with emotions - if anything he relied on you to be the one to help him navigate peoples feelings. So seeing you in such a worried state made him really, well... worried. He didn’t know what to do.
Once you finally arrived face to face at the gate you greeted him with a small smile and he guided you into the village. He gave you a little perplexed look in return before weeding the two of you out of the way of villagers and back towards his apartment.
I should say something, he thought to himself almost awkwardly, but he just didn’t know what.
Normally you would have started a conversation with him and he would have listened carefully, not saying much himself as he preferred hearing your voice as opposed to his own. However, you didn't seem in the mood to do that today, meaning it was his turn to pick up the slack.
“Erm- Temari and Kankuro will be happy to see you. Kankuro has been working on a new puppet and he has been dying to show everyone in the village how good it is.”
You laughed at that, which made his heart warm a bit, but he couldn't help but sense a possible hint of distractedness in your tone. You were gnawing at your nails too - he picked up that it was your nervous habit -  which made him fall back into silence again.
What am I supposed to say? What do people do in these situations?
Gaara lead you up to his apartment, knowing that you were tired and usually fell asleep upon arriving at the village.
Typically after you woke up from a nap you two would eat dinner together and then you would really start to catch up on things. You would talk about eventful things that happened on your missions and he would talk about Kank and Temari or some of his own eventful occurrences as the Kazekage in return.
Your naps usually lasted pretty long after your 3 day journey. That would give Gaara just enough time to drop by Temari’s and see if she could assist him with how to deal with this whole situation. She was always the one he fell back on for relationship advice. Deeming Kankuro useless in this field, as he talked more to puppets than to actual human beings.
He opens the door for you upon arriving and remains at the enterance, when you realize he isn’t coming side with you, you turned to look at him. You stared at each other from your respective points in the apartment: him at the door and you just outside his bedroom.
“Gaara?.. Aren't you coming inside?”
“...No, I need to, uhm, finish some paperwork. In the meantime you should really take a nap. I’ll be back by the time you wake up.” He said awkardly as he closed the door.
With that, he left you to sleep as he paid his sister a visit, asking her for some needed advice.
Temari was surprised at the visit, it was always very rare for Gaara to ask her for this kind of advice anyway, let alone for him to have a worried look on his face too.
When she lets him inside, he recalls the events that have transpired so far, sitting across from eachother at Temaris dinner table. There was a guide book on Shogi sitting atop the table, which Gaara knew she was reading just to impress a certain Leaf ninja. Anyway, when she caught him staring at it she batted it away embarrassedly and cleared her throat, her face growing hot. There was a moment of silence in the room as she thought about what Gaara had told her.
“Hm... Well, did you ask her whats wrong?”
“...No.” He realized that would have been an important piece of information to ask.
“Gaara!“
Temari shook her head, but then proceeded to give him a simple rundown of what to do.
Step one: ask whats wrong
Step two: ask how you can make her feel better
It seemed so simple when Temari said it, honestly he felt a little embarrassed that he couldn't manage to think of it on his own. He wasnt going to waste anymore time now that he knew what to do though.
As he was leaving Temaris apartment she smiled at him.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that...”
“Oh, its nothing...” she giggled. “Well actually Gaara, you know, going out of your way like this is something people normally do when they care about someone.” Then she closed the door with a cheeky grin, leaving Gaara to blush at the face of a wooden door.
On his way back to the apartment he thought about what Temari said, going out of your way like this is something people normally do when they care about someone... Of course in his head he always knew he really cared about y/n, but having someone else notice it too really made him stop and think.
He remembered when he fought Naruto back when the sound village attacked the Leaf. Naruto had opened Gaaras eyes to a lot of important things. He had shown him that you needed to have people important in your life. People that you would fight for and even die for... And for the first time, Gaara realized that y/n ticked all those boxes.
As he arrived back at his apartment, he opened the door quietly, not wanting to wake you up. He could hear your gentle snores as he made his way to your bedroom, holding a medium sized box in his hands.
After leaving Temari’s he had wandered the village a bit, thinking over a few things and clearing his mind, he had passed by your favourite dessert place in his village and figured that it would be a good gesture if he got you something. Afterall, Temari was always so happy when got sweets from anyone.
He opened the bedroom door carefully only to see you curled up on his bed sleeping. It made his heart feel all funny when he seen you sleeping. You looked so calm and fragile. He couldn't really admire it for all that long though because His presence must have alerted you. He watched your eyes open groggily as you sat up.
“Gaara? Is that you?” you asked, letting out a yawn.
“Yes. I uhm... I got you something.” he placed the white box on the bed next to you.
You opened the lid curiously, to reveal your favourite dessert staring back at you. It made you smile widely, as if nothing was wrong in the first place, but in a few seconds the worry crawled back onto your face. This time though, Gaara didn't get discouraged.
“Something has been bothering you since you got here, y/n. I want to help you, but I can't if you don't tell me whats wrong.”
It was strange seeing him so forward with feelings, but you liked it. In fact it made you feel relieved that you could tell him about your predicament.
“I guess you're right... Well, you see I guess its kind of... A bit silly but I got you a gift a while back. It was so pretty... You see, it was this necklace I found in a village I was passing through for a mission, it was this red gem wrapped around a sort of turquoise wire and it made me think of you instantly. So, I bought it and I was so excited to give it to you I kept taking it out of my backpack to look at it on my way here. Then when I woke up this morning and checked out of the Inn I stayed in, I went to look at it one more time before I arrived and it was gone!” you sighed, falling back onto the pillows.
“It would have looked perfect on you, Gaara. I just wanted to give you something special for you to remember me by for when Im not visiting. I don't know I guess its kind of a stupid thing to be upset about, but I just can't help it.” You covered your face with your hands.
There was a dip in the bed and you felt Gaara lay down beside you, causing you to peek at him through your fingers.
He was relieved to say the least, in fact he may have even been smiling a little bit. This was all she was worried about? It wasn’t about anything that he had done, it was just about a necklace!
“Thats all that was worrying you?” He asked as he looked at you with an almost soft expression, he gently removed your hands from your face.
“You know, y/n, I’m sure the necklace would have been nice, but all that really matters to me is that you're here now and we can spend some time together.”
He thought about what you said: I just wanted to give you something special for you to remember me by for when Im not visiting.
“And you don't need to give me anything to remind me of you while you're away because I think about you all the time when you're not here with me.” He blushed a little bit after he said it, but refused to get all shy about it.
When you heard that, a big smile appeared on your face, the same one that he always saw when you ran towards him at the villages gates. It was a huge relief to see you like this again, it felt as though there was a crack of sunshine in the middle of a storm of dark clouds. He could see the worry and frustration in your face slipping away slowly.
It made him feel happy, to be able to make you feel better again. He really did care about you.
“Come on then, eat your dessert and then we’ll go see Kankuro. Like I said earlier, he wants to show you his new puppet.”

Secret Glances
Genre: One-shot, Hurt/Comfort Rating: T Sasuhina Month 2020 Theme: Day 5 (Secret Glances)
A/N: This turned out much longer and different than I thought. It feels nice to be writing again though, even if I am rusty. Part of my one-shot series for Sasuhina Month 2020. You can read the other parts by going on my profile and clicking the fanfiction tab. Hope you enjoy! Warnings: Mentions of death.
The heat felt endless.
How long had she been up already? The sun was at its peak during this time of day, burning everything in its path, including herself. The sun felt as if it was burning her all too pale skin despite all the sunscreen she had put on just earlier before she went out. The sounds of cicadas could be heard merrily singing amongst the grass and trees. The birds that stayed hidden from view seemed to harmonize with them, creating a symphony of wild music that never seemed to end.
It was summer.
“ Hinata-chan, hurry up! You’re falling behind again!” Cried a voice.
She could see long, platinum blonde hair swaying from a distance as the woman who had called out to her ran closer and closer. Before she knew it, the woman had already managed to grab a hold of her.
“ Ino-chan!” She yelled in surprise.
“ You haven’t gone out in forever with us! Don’t even think about trying to sneak out. Especially, not after what you promised us the other day. Let’s hurry up and catch up with the other girls before we get left too far behind.”
Hinata could feel the seriousness hidden behind those bright blue eyes of hers. She could only nod in response, which satisfied her friend. She could feel herself being dragged along as the two of them ran to catch up with the other girls that she had promised to spend the day with.
Summer.
It was her first summer without Neji.
Her cousin had died during the Fourth Great War less than a year ago. His funeral had been held during the end of Autumn. She could never forget that day. The day when the Hyuga had forced Hinata to give a speech in remembrance, despite still grieving for him. She couldn’t even cry during his funeral. A part of her couldn’t accept it. She couldn’t accept that one of her most important people had passed. Even as she witnessed his own corpse being lowered to the ground so that he could be buried and pass on in peace, Hinata still couldn’t accept it. He was a strong shinobi, one of the strongest in all the village.
Yet he had died.
He had died protecting her.
He had died because she was too weak. Had she been stronger, Neji never would have been killed. She had blamed herself ever since he had died. It didn’t matter what other people said, it was Hinata herself who had ultimately ended up killing him.
But during these times, she would remember the words from a man that she had barely spoken to over the years. She remembered it was only a few days after the war when Hinata had decided to  visit him on a whim. She remembered the desperate helplessness she had felt when it seemed no one could truly understand the pain she felt in realizing the death of her cousin was real. It was only after speaking to him that she could finally find some relief and hope in the void that Neji had left behind in her soul.
That man was Sasuke Uchiha himself.
“ How do you deal with the pain of losing a loved one?” She quietly asked.
Sasuke kept staring out the window for what felt like an eternity before turning to face her. Although she kept her eyes on her hands, she could feel his aura as she felt his gaze. It made her feel small and insignificant. She wondered if he was angry at her for asking. Afterall, how could the death of one person compare to the death of an entire clan?
“ We move forward. We have to live. We have to strive to protect them. If we can’t protect their physical bodies, then the least we can do is protect their ideals. It doesn’t matter how much you cry or suffer, you have to live anyways. If you don’t, then it just means their deaths were in vain. Don’t waste the life they gave you.”
Hinata looked at Sasuke in surprise. She wasn’t expecting him to say so much to her. But she felt a sense of relief, as if a huge burden had been lifted from her shoulders. They weren’t words of sympathy or pity. There were no apologies nor were there empty condolences within the words he had spoken.
They were words from a person who understood her pain.
It had been their first conversation together since their childhood days, and it was the last conversation they had together before he had left the village for reasons that he wouldn’t disclose to anyone, other than his best friend, Naruto. Yet despite that, it was his words that had stuck with her the most. It was what had helped her get through Neji’s funeral, even though she had been forced to give a speech she did not want to give.
And it was his words that had woken her up.
Ever since that night, Hinata had devoted herself to training. Whether it was shinobi training, clan training, or her own personal studies, Hinata had decided to do it all if it meant that she would be able to fulfill Neji’s one wish. It would be her way of paying him back and making up for the sacrifice he had made with his life in order to protect hers.
The eradication of the Cursed Seal.
The Cursed Seal, which marked all Branch members within the Hyuga Clan, was a symbol used to indicate a lower status and acted as a chain that linked them to the Main House. It allowed the Main House to have absolute control over them, something that had caused Neji to develop hatred for her during their childhood days. It took many years for the two of them to mend their strained relationship. One of their goals that the two of them had decided upon when they had become closer to one another was to change the old customs within the clan.
The two of them were supposed to change the clan together. That had ended when he died, leaving Hinata by herself. But she had to keep moving forward. She had to keep their promise alive. So that was why she had decided to commit so hard in training. She wanted to have something to show for. She wouldn’t be able to face Neji otherwise. It was the only way.
However, in dedicating herself to fulfilling their wish, Hinata had neglected her friends.
“ Hey, you’re spacing out again.”
She felt a gentle shake as another one of her friends, Tenten this time, looked at her with concern. Tenten was the only other person who had felt the same pain, if not more so. Tenten had loved Neji. They were supposed to move out together once the war was over. But it was only an unfulfilled dream now.
“ Sorry, I just have a lot on my mind lately. I’m fine.”   Tenten shook her head in understanding. The other two, Sakura and Temari, who had been waiting for the three girls to come, beamed with joy once they saw everyone had finally arrived. They had planned to have a girls’ day together, something that was rare nowadays since everyone was busy with various jobs in their lives.
For Hinata, it was the first time she had gone out ever since Neji had died. She had spent countless months in seclusion, a result that came from constantly preoccupying herself with training. She was reluctant, but her sister, Hanabi, had forced her out of the house stating that she had to take a break every once and awhile. Normally, Hinata would have agreed.
However, she only saw it as a waste of time now.
Still, she decided that it was better to go along with everyone’s desire rather than try to force her way out. After all, she wasn’t intentionally trying to push away her friends. She was just trying to do all that she could do to make sure she could fulfill her dear cousin’s wish as soon as possible. But if her friends and sister wanted to see her once and awhile, then she would indulge it.
Before leaving with her friends, Hinata noticed a hawk soaring across the sky. It had headed towards the direction of the Hokage’s Office before disappearing into the distance. Before she could express outloud her curiosity, She could hear Tenten call out to her again. Tucking the thought away, she quickly joined the group before Ino could drag her again.
-----
By the time the girls had finished spending time together and left for the day, the sun had already begun to set. Despite this, the heat remained as scorching as it had midday. It did not help that it made her long, dark hair stick to her skin like hot sweltering glue. It made her feel uncomfortable. She wondered why her friends had picked such a hot day to see each other.
They had shopped and then ate an early dinner together. Although she had enjoyed their presence, Hinata felt that it was ultimately a waste of time. In her mind, it did not feel right to be wasting time leisurely like this. Not when there was still a goal to fulfill.
She sighed.
Perhaps she really did need a break.
She looked up to the sky once more and noticed a hawk flying by again. It was the same one from earlier. Except this time it was flying towards the direction of Naruto’s house.
Hinata quickly followed after it.
By the time she had reached Naruto’s home, the hawk had already disappeared. However, she could make out two figures. One was standing outside his windowsill with spiky blonde hair and cerulean eyes sporting orange pajamas, while the other stayed mostly hidden from view amongst the trees. She couldn’t quite make out the figure, but she knew they must have been important if they had made such an effort to stay hidden from view while the two of them were discussing something in private.
She was curious who Naruto was talking to, so Hinata stayed hidden as she watched from afar. Night had already come, so it made it even harder for her to see without the help of her dojutsu. She did not want to use the Byakugan though, in case they could sense her.
Suddenly, she felt the hidden figure turn towards her direction. Hinata tried to hide away, but it was too late.
A pair of obsidian eyes met her silvery ones.
For what felt like an eternity, they stared at each other. She wasn’t sure why he was here, but she could instantly recognize who he was. There was only one person in the world whose eyes were as dark as the moonless night.
Sasuke Uchiha.
His raven black hair had grown longer since the last time they met. It was difficult to make out, but she could tell that he wore a long black cape to hide his presence.
She was so surprised by his presence that she couldn’t help but murmur his name.
Just as she did, Sasuke quickly reverted his eyes back to Naruto. It seemed their friend hadn’t noticed their interaction with each other. They continued talking normally, although occasionally Sasuke would give her a quick glance before redirecting his attention back to Naruto.
Hinata knew she should have left as soon as she had been spotted by Sasuke. She knew whatever was transpiring between the two had nothing to do with her. She had a lot of things to do; there was training to be done at home.
Yet Hinata found herself unable to take a step.
She continued to stare at him. She continued to watch the man who had given her the words that she needed to hear when she felt as if the world did not understand the torment that she was going through. She continued to watch the man who was once considered an enemy, a monster that was born from the cycle of hatred acts for being born with the blood of the Uchiha clan.
Sasuke Uchiha was the man who had lost his entire family, a pain much greater than any eighteen year old boy should endure. He was the one who could understand her own grief and her own guilt. The only one who could give her the words she needed to hear once more, to confirm that the efforts she had painstakingly made throughout these months were good.
He was the one who she needed right now.
Hinata could see the two exchange their good-byes before Naruto closed his window for the night. As soon as he did, she tried to call out to Sasuke. She wanted to talk with him just once more before he left again. But just as soon as Naruto had left, Sasuke had already vanished from his spot as well.
Suddenly, she felt a sharp breeze pass through her. She could make out a black figure race past her. His eyes met hers again as they stared into each other before he finally disappeared into the forest.
A mere exchange of glances that lasted for only a second.
She didn’t feel satisfied with just that. Rather, she couldn’t feel satisfied. So using as much strength as she could, Hinata ran to follow him.
She ran and ran for what felt like ages. He was much too fast. She questioned whether he was really human. He was faster than any shinobi in the village, much faster than anyone she knew. When they had reached into an open field within the forest, Hinata was too tired to follow anymore. Instead, she yelled for him.
“ S-Sasuke-kun, please wait!” She screamed at the top of her lungs before finally collapsing onto her knees, hoping he would hear.
Before she could stand up again, she could feel a presence only a few inches away from where she kneeled on the grass.
“ What do you want?” His voice sounded much deeper than she had remembered. It felt blunt, yet held no malice nor annoyance. Rather he sounded distant like a stranger. Strangers that barely knew each other.
In truth, Hinata wasn’t sure what she wanted from Sasuke. What was it that he provided that her friends couldn’t? She wasn’t the only one who had lost Neji. Tenten, Ino, Sakura, and Temari also lost him as well. He was their friend and comrade too. So why was it that Hinata continued to seek him out?
As soon as she had seen him, everything that she had done today had faded into oblivion. All the people she saw, all the conversations she had, had already faded into her memory. It was as if those things were insignificant compared to him. She wasn’t sure of the reasoning. She felt something unexplainable emerge within her. She didn’t know what to call these new emotions that had surfaced into her heart.
Perhaps it was because despite the others’ understanding and sympathy with losing Neji, none of them truly understood nor held the same level of relationship that Hinata had with her dear cousin. Neji may have been a friend, comrade, and lover for some of these people, but none of them had ever held the same familiarity that the two had with each other. He was more than just a cousin, he was her brother. He was her brother who had shared the same blood, the same training, and the same struggles experienced within the clan.
Neji was the person who understood her the most.
And now here stood another man who also understood her. He understood her in a way that no one else could because he too had lost his brother as well. Perhaps it was because of this that Hinata wanted to see him. Perhaps it was why she so desperately seeked him out.
Because despite being merely acquaintances that were more like strangers, the two of them shared a unique connection that came from experiencing the death of a loved one. It was a connection that only the two of them could understand. Which was why Hinata had to try. She had to try to see him.
Even if it was just once more.
“ I...know this is a selfish request of mine, but...i-if it’s okay with you...I would like to see you again,” She asked between each breath.
Hinata slowly looked at the man towering before her. His cool expression gave away no emotion. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking. She wondered if it was a mistake to ask him. “ What good will that do? We aren’t friends, Hyuga. I have no interest in doing so either. I have my own things that I have to do. If you want to grieve then do so at your own expense. Don’t come to me to do it,”
She watched him turn his back towards her as he started getting ready to leave. A part of her knew he was right. She was being irrational again. They were not friends. They were essentially strangers. But then she remembered that day. She remembered his words. She remembered the relief, the release from her own guilt, even if it was only temporarily. She remembered the feeling that she had experienced when she found someone who had finally understood her. Yes, she was being irrational and selfish, but she felt so helpless and desperate that she had to try.
“ Please...Please, Sasuke-kun,” She whispered.
She begged him.
She begged as tears started falling from her tired eyes.
But Sasuke was already gone. -----
Hinata wasn’t sure how she had managed to make it home. It was already four in the morning by the time she had arrived. To her surprise, neither her father nor the other clan members were there to berate her for coming home late. She was exhausted though, so she was glad for that. As soon as she had laid in bed, Hinata had fallen fast asleep.
She was still asleep when morning came. Even when the sun started to beam into her bedroom, Hinata still remained in bed. She felt mentally and physically exhausted from her exchange with Sasuke. It had been a mistake to ask him.
Until she heard a light tapping noise coming from her window.
Still feeling tired, Hinata groggily opened her window to see what had been making the noise. Staring back at her was a brown hawk with golden eyes. When she opened her window, the hawk flew to her desk. It dropped a small letter before resting in a space near the corner of the desk. After a few minutes of staring at the letter, Hinata finally grabbed it to read what was written inside.
If you want to talk, use the hawk as a messenger. I’ll be waiting. - Sasuke
That day, Hinata spent the whole day wondering in confusion what had transpired between them. She couldn’t understand the reasoning behind Sasuke’s actions. It was irrational though she wasn’t one to talk. However, it was only until nightfall, did she finally respond back to his letter.
Little did they both know, this would mark the beginning of what would become an abnormal relationship.

Chapter 9 - Love Triangle
Dark clouds were gathering above Konoha, and Tsunade sent Kakashi on a mission with some Jonins. Sakura was once more alone, since Naruto went off with Jiraiya to gain some intel on the Akatsuki. Most of them were still in the wind.
"But master Tsunade, don't you think sending Naruto after his pursuers would be a bold and - quite frankly - a dumb move?" - Sakura asked as she gathered some papers the hokage has already reviewed.
"Don't question my decisions, Sakura." - She growled after taking a deep drink from a cup of tea. Lately she has been seen drinking way more tea than sake. But Sakura was smart enough to know what she kept in the lower drawers of her desk. There were eyes on her constantly, waiting for her to slip up, so it was understandable that she kept her alcohol consumption literally under the table. The pink haired kunoichi sighed at the unnecessarily angry response from the sannin. - "I think you need to practice some more, I haven't given you a proper beating in a while."
Tsunade's voice indicated that she was kidding, but her eyes said she was dead serious. And to a certain extent she was serious. There was still the matter of Kakashi and her - it was never discussed between Tsunade and Sakura. Heck, it was never even discussed between Kakashi and Sakura... after they were released from the hospital, Kakashi left to complete mission after mission, never letting the hokage assign him anything shorter than a 3 week job. Tunade never wanted to pry, but she felt responsible for pushing her into the arms of the copy-ninja. Sakura waited patiently, for she let herself believe at every single occasion that after the current mission he would come and talk to her.
But it has been literal hell for her. She would wake up in agony sometimes, feeling a kunai cut into her sides, or flames burn her skin... but eventually realise that it was not her experiencing these injuries, but her other half - Kakashi.
On the other side, she has stopped telling the details to Ino after a couple months, since all she said was that she should tell Tsunade about these side effects and that she should talk to Kakashi about it as well.... which was pretty obvious, and she knew it was logical, but she still couldn't bring herself to do that. Why?
Because Tsunade had warned her before all this began that going in for Kakashi came with great risks and that the jutsu, which she planned to use was not fully ready. She had also told them to let it burn out. Maybe that is what Kakashi was doing. Waiting for all this to disappear.  However she felt as if the bond was getting stronger. She would sometimes feel more than the extreme pain of being injured. She would sometimes feel hungry after just finishing a meal or feel sadness out of the blue.  The other reason was that she had walked by Kakashi's place on purpose so many times in hopes of running into the sensei that now she could not even bring herself to go near the neighbourhood anymore. The locals started to notice her, a lady in the small convenience store knew her by name and since she always pretended she was there to help someone, most people knew her for helping out wherever there was work to be done. It gained her a very positive reputation, but she was sure if the sensei wanted to notice her, he would have had plenty of opportunities. He never did, and because of that, she started going less and less until she gave up hope entirely.
I wish I would know why men tend to avoid me like this... even the sensei... Her thought trailed back to their one night stand - if it can be called as such. Physically, they only almost kissed. Mentally, they knew every inch of each other. She looked at the corner where she would take a left turn to walk to Kakashi's neighbourhood... and instead, she took the right. Going into a small bar, she ordered a bottle of sake with the clear intention of drinking away her sorrow and moving on from all and every heartbreak she has ever had to experience. But as soon as she poured her first cup, a figure slipped into the booth with her.
"I wouldn't advise you to do that." - Shikamaru said as he lit a cigarette. Ever since Asuma's death, he'd been smoking nonstop. Understandably so.
"I won't lecture you on the health risks of smoking, and you won't bug me for day-drinking... How does that sound, Nara?" - She said after throwing her first drink back.
"Like a deal, Haruno... Like a deal." - Shikamaru sighed and waved at the waitress to bring him a cup too. He poured them both the next round and drank his before Sakura could object.
"So what is the deal with you, why are you here?" - She inquired. Her pony tailed friend just shrugged his shoulders.
"You could say, life's being a drag." - He said, quickly drinking another round, catching up to her.
"Oh, I can relate." - She sighed.
After four bottles of sake, they were both extremely intoxicated. She had told Shikamaru everything about how she was connected with Kakashi and how they had a moment but months had since passed them by. He told her about how Ino got weird after he told her about his relationship with Temari.
“She was super supportive at first, always helping me figure out what that damned woman wated or meant... then when I asked for advice on what is the right time to suggest some more... intimate relations, she just dropped me like I was just some annoying dude she had to put up with.” - Shikamaru sighed - “She even said that she was only hanging out with me because the history of our families... because it was mandatory. A day or so after that she started sleeping with Genma. She seems happy, so I am sure he treats her right, but it’s... it’s GENMA for fuck’s sake. That man is a pain in the butt when it comes to women. Leaving the rest of the team the pick up the pieces when he is done with her.”
Sakura chuckled a bit. - “Ino can be harsh when she feels vulnerable.. and she does stupid things to hide her pain.” - she waved at the waitress and ordered a glass of water. She was sure this topic required a bit more attention than her drunk brain could manage.
“Pain?” - Shikamaru scoffed - “What about the pain she inflicts on the rest of us?”
“Nara, you are the smartest man in Konoha. Hell, maybe the smartest ninja alive right now... yet you still manage to be dumb when it comes to women.” - Sakura chugged her water and poured another glass from the pitcher the waitress (very considerately) brought instead of one single glass.
Shikamaru looked confused for a second then burried his face in his hands - “Please don’t tell me Ino...” - he started massaging his temples - “No, that cannot be. You are just messing with me.”
“I am her best friend. I know Ino like the back of my hand..” - she said and reached across the table to put her hand on his shoulders - “She might have acted like she never cared for you like that, because she felt like she had to go for the coolest man possible.. but it is not news.” - Sakura shrugged her shoulders. Ino has never told her she liked Shikamaru per se, but she did told her things that made it clear as day. The blonde admired his wit and strenght openly, looked up to him and complained about Temari to Sakura nonstop. She had even went as far as to say that the sand ninja is not worthy of her teammate’s attention - let alone his love. Obviously, ‘I love Shikamaru Nara’ never left her lips... it was possible even she didn’t know how obvious it was.
“It is news.” - Shikamaru growled. He was trying to make sense of it all. They have known each other since they were born. Their families were so intertwined they might as well be in the same clan. He has been around Ino through thick and thin, saw her at her lowest and they helped each other through more than one difficult situation. It would be a lie to say he has never once looked at her and thought about her in a different way than a friend or a comrade. She was extremely beautiful - that was undeniable, but he found her hunger for attention and twisted image of beauty repulsive. He had brought Ino home after countless times after she had a couple more drinks than she should have and he recalled that each and every time Ino tried to get him to bring her to his apartment rather than hers, but he thought it was because of her father being a drag when she was drunk. She did flirt with him openly when she wanted something, but again, she WANTED something. It was her way of GETTING what she wanted from every member of the opposite sex.
Sakura watched with amusement as a storm of emotions stormed across the poor man’s face. Sure enough, Ino was a piece of work, and Shikamaru has always voiced his frustration with complicated women.
“But, if she wanted to get with me, what is the deal with her and Genma?” - He asked and poured himself another glass of sake. He was not going to stop just because his drinking buddy has. - “She should have known I won’t ever go for her like that. Genma is not just my elder and my superior. He is a friend.”
“Rebound.” - she said without looking up. He has realized that she has been playing with her fingers. The topic made her uncomfortable for some reason. Even she couldn’t explain why. - “Look, Ino is my best friend. I shouldn’t even tell any of this to you. She would squash me like a bug if she knew we talked about this. But I want her to be happy, and I guess I wanted you to see the whole picture. I’m sure you love Temari. You two have had chemistry since day one. But I would much rather see her with you than anyone else.”
“That’s not fair.” - Shikamaru said and lit another cigarette. - “Temari and I have had some sort of connection, sure. And dating her has been not awful either. But you know I would give anything up for my team.” - he blew out the smoke. That was true, he would have given up his life to protect Ino and Choji. But this was different. He was not obligated to chose. He could just go on and be with Temari, Ino would find a man easily. She would still live happily ever after. But blaming Sakura was easier. What he really blamed her for was giving him ideas rather than telling him the truth.
“Life’s not fair, Nara.” - She finished her drink, but despite her words, she did feel a bit guilty. It was not fair steering Shikamaru towards Ino when she was occupied with Genma. But her friend chose the biggest playboy in the village for a reason.
“So what about Kakashi?” - Shikamaru tried to turn the topic around.
“What about Kakashi?” - echoed a man standing by their table. He appeared there without them noticing. Kakashi. In the flesh. He wore baggy dark blue cargo pants and military boots and a sleeveless slik top that was in one with his mask. The top was thin and figure fitting. Every muscle visible underneath. Sakura felt her throat tighten as her eyes met his. She waited for so long. She longed for him to come to talk to her since he left. Now he was here, and she just wanted to run.

So you know how in every town there’s like that one group of troublemakers who just raise hell, right? Well what if one of the members in said group sorta befriend gaara even tho she’s kinda crazy while he’s like super stoic? I was thinking this would be set when they were younger. Oooo and maybe like an updated version where there older?? (Shippuden era) I’ve had this idea stuck in my head for weeks that’s why it’s so specific lol
I like this a lot, actually! Sounds... Festive...
Gaara was somewhere between five and nine when he used his sand powers to catch the girls who fell off the high building. The rest of her(meaning, she runs that joint) little gang, swore they were forever in his debt. She however, did the same and more. She’d leave small trinkets she found, on his windowsill at night so he’d find them in the morning. He checked every day for them.
He never did find out where she lived or if she had any family. Often when she gets hurt or sick, she’d disappear for awhile. The first time it happened Gaara was worried sick, and even went looking for her.
She probably laughs a lot and very loudly. Probably pretty tomboy-like. Owns tons of ‘handmade’ weapons.
Gaara sees her less and less, but talks to her more and more as they age. She’ll leave letters in his office, and he’s not sure how or when she gets in there. Whenever they do hang out, it’s usually pretty relaxing for Gaara. He loves how carefree and free-spirited she is.
She likes his kindness. He might not look or act it, but she thinks of him as the nicest person she ever met. She’s definitely befriended Kankuro and Temari too btw OwO.
He probably sits on rooftops with her. They’ll just sit there and probably hold hands in a friendly way. He’s the most vulnerable then. They trust each other with their lives.
One day, she showed up covered in blood and just.... passed out. She woke up later that night, and Gaara was asleep in the hospital bed beside her, trying really hard not to take up too much space. Nobody ever found out why she was hurt.
Whenever they’re together, Gaara is constantly using his sand to catch her midair. She’s not blind, just clumsy.

Chess [10] - {ShikaTema AU}
Apologies that it’s been a while but I’m done with uni until January now so stress has slightly subsided. Love you all and hope you enjoy this chapter!
As always, I’d love to hear what you think of it. And, once again, thanks so much for reading!
CHAPTER TEN
For her brothers to believe her lie that she was going to work at the all night cafe a few streets away and not to secretly meet someone, Temari had been made to carry her files around in her bag, but after only five minutes waiting outside the fish-and-chip shop, she found herself unable to keep hold of it anymore. Checking her phone once again, she slid down against the wall and put her bag beside her on the floor. It was almost nine-thirty, and she’d been waiting for her chips since nine-twenty-three. She’d been waiting for him since nine-fifteen.
Give it five more minutes, she decided, and I’m going home.
Meanwhile, Shikamaru speed walked down the street, desperately trying to stop himself from slowing to a halt and lighting a cigarette to calm his nerves. Instead, he powered on forward in the knowledge he was late, turning the final corner before he saw her, slumped against the window outside, and staring straight ahead across the road.
He physically couldn’t stop himself starting to run towards her.
“Hey!” he called out.
Her head whipped round, her ponytail flailing, but instead of heading over to him when she jumped to her feet, she disappeared into the door behind her.
Shikamaru couldn’t help the wave of disappointment that flew over him, nor could he stop his feet from running toward the shop. He needed to see her.
When he reached his goal, he saw her through the window, smiling at the man over the counter as she grabbed a small bag from him. Wrapped up in a tartan scarf and big fluffy coat, chunky boots at her feet instead of the smart ones she wore at her office, he couldn’t help but stare at her in awe. And in that moment, it didn’t matter how cold the air was, his hands started to grow clammy with nerves.
“Hey,” she said, smiling with the guiltiest look on her face. “I’m sorry—I had to get food.” She stuffed a chip into her mouth. “Kankuro and his girlfriend wanted to be alone and I was not going to argue, and I couldn’t cook anything.”
Blushing, and hoping it would pass off as the wind burning his cheeks, Shikamaru shook his head, tapping his foot. “No worries. I won’t keep you long.”
“It’s fine,” sighed Temari, “but we should probably go somewhere...not here.”
“Why?”
“Well, not to be a downer but I would be sacked if anyone who I work with found out I did this, and our receptionist lives just round the corner, so...”
Shikamaru nodded. “I get it. Maybe we shouldn’t—”
“No!” she interrupted, just a little too quickly. “Just follow me.”
As they began to walk, Shikamaru couldn’t help smiling into the scarf around his neck, hoping she couldn’t see. It was a weird feeling—he felt so calm in her presence that he’d almost forgotten outright what it was that was bothering him. “Thank you,” he said, trying not to let the situation become silent too quickly. “I was just feeling so low and, well, I know you help me.”
“I get it.” Temari smiled, offering out the bag containing her dinner. “Have some.”
“I already ate,” he lied.
“Oh, okay.”
She seemed disheartened, and Shikamaru’s heart dropped. Out of habit he whipped out his cigarettes and put one to his lips, reaching into his pocket for his lighter, but, as he did so, he caught her staring out the corner of his eye.
“Are you not alright with cigarettes?”
Temari looked taken aback, clearly believing he hadn’t seen her. She quickly busied herself eating and shook her head. “Oh, sorry. No. You do whatever.”
The tiny flame illuminated his face in such a way that she could see every little detail; the tiny little smile lines around his mouth, the varying shades of brown that rampaged in his eyes, and the sharpness of each of his features. He shivered as he took in his first drag of the cigarette, and Temari couldn’t help opening her mouth. “You’re not warm enough.”
“You sound like my mother,” he chuckled, a small smoke cloud coming out as he spoke. “I’m fine.”
“You’re skin and bone. You’ve not got any fat on you to keep you warm, Shikamaru.” She shook her head. “And fingerless gloves don’t do much for keeping you warm.”
“But they do work better for using my lighter.”
“Why am I not surprised you’re a smoker?”
Shikamaru shrugged. “Because I told you the other day that I was.”
“No, I mean, a smoker smoker. You’re not just a casual, have a ciggy when I need one kind of guy, are you?” she quizzed. “You constantly do it, don’t you? You reek of smoke. Constantly.”
“Thank you for the confidence boost.”
“That isn’t what I meant,” she groaned. “I love the smell of smoke.”
“So do I.”
“I guessed.”
He chuckled. “You came here to listen to me, not grill me about my habits.”
“I’m not grilling you!”
The chuckle grew to a full blown grin and he took another drag. “You’re funny, Temari.”
She frowned. “I’m not funny, I’m just talking.”
“I know,” he mumbled, cigarette poking out the corner of his mouth. “It’s just that you act like you’re hard but you’re obviously a softie.”
“I’m not—”
“It’s not a bad thing.”
“Why is it funny then?”
His dark eyes shifted and locked with hers, bright and beautiful before he sped up. “Doesn’t matter.”
Temari huffed and walked faster to catch up with him. They neared the end of the road, at which stood an entrance to a small park, littered with benches. The trees were so luscious here; evergreen and beautiful, living through the winter. As they stepped through the gates and into the greenery, she had reached the bottom of her bag of food, Temari found it difficult to read Shikamaru. He walked slightly ahead, one hand in his pocket, the other clutching the remains of his cigarette between two fingers.
“So, you want to talk to me?”
He didn’t turn. “Mhmm.”
“Talk then,” she chuckled, impatiently. “I could get in serious trouble, and I just want to know something good came from this.”
Shikamaru’s feet shuffled to a halt and he looked up at the sky through the gaps in the trees. “I was thinking all day about what you said; about me having destructive thinking patterns.”
“Okay.” Temari slowly parked herself beside him and shared his view. “And?”
“And I was trying to think about what they are, especially after I saw your brother in the bakery.”
Temari blushed. “Yeah he told me about that. I’m so sorry about him.”
“That’s the thing, I didn’t feel like he did anything wrong. He was intense, sure, but I felt like I was being...I dunno, a bit of a dick for not talking to him much.” He turned, looking down into her eyes. “I just told him I didn’t think that we were meant to talk, and then I felt like I’d ruined his day.”
“You didn’t.”
“Yeah, I’m aware of that. Perfectly aware of that. But I couldn’t just separate myself from it.”
“I understand,” Temari sighed. “Maybe you’re not as much of a puzzle as I thought you were, Shikamaru.”
He bit down on his lip and looked away, fishing out another cigarette from his pocket.
“I thought you were going to have all these deep rooted and unsolvable issues,” she smiled, hoping he’d see her. But he didn’t turn. “Thing is, I think you just want everybody to be happy.”
Shikamaru shrugged, lighting the stick of tobacco and puffing on it.
“You do, don’t you? You want everyone to be happy, and you feel like you stop that happening.”
“I guess so,” he mumbled. “But that’s not important enough a feeling to make someone feel like they want to...you know...”
Temari shook her head. “No, it can be. Everyone has different intensities of emotion.”
He smirked and started to wander off, cigarette glued to his mouth and arms hand raised as though greeting someone. “Hi,” he said, as if on a game show, “I’m Shikamaru Nara and I want to die because I can’t bring world peace.” He turned and looked at her in disbelief, half smiling to keep his smoke in place. “I’m sorry, Tem, but that’s bollocks.”
Temari felt her heart flutter. Only her brothers these days called her Tem, but the feeling of Shikamaru casually talking to her, calling her by a nickname on instinct...well, that felt worryingly normal; worryingly nice.
Clearly he’d noticed the surprised look on her face. “Sorry,” he mumbled. “Temari, I meant.”
“No.” She stepped towards him, her expression warm and welcoming. “Tem is fine.”
“Sure?”
“Sure,” she sighed. “Just maybe don’t make blasé statements like that, yeah?”
“But it just doesn’t seem like—”
“Shikamaru?” Her interruption was brutally sharp. “Can I have a smoke?”
He raised his eyebrows, holding back a laugh in shock. “After you just grilled me about—”
“I didn’t grill you!”
“Surely you don’t smoke.”
“I socially smoke. When I drink and it’s cold.”
Shikamaru let his hand fall into his pocket. “You’re not drinking.”
“But it is freezing cold. Come on,” she begged. “It’s the least you can do.”
“The least I could do would be to give you a drag of mine,” he chuckled.
Sighing, Temari stepped closer and looked up into his eyes. “That’ll do, if they’re that precious to you.”
Amazed, he took it from his mouth and handed it over, hiding himself in his scarf once again. He watched as Temari took a drag and held it back out to him, letting the smoke drift as she breathed out, and looked her dead in the eye.
It was pure torture how beautiful she was. Never had Shikamaru felt compelled to tell a woman that she was beautiful, or ask her for coffee; never until now, with the exact woman that it was totally impossible to ask that. With a smile he took back the cigarette, breathing in before handing it straight back, only to be greeted by the happiest of subtle smiles on Temari’s face.
“Did I tell you about the woman who tried to sleep with me?”
Temari almost choked on the smoke she inhaled. “Wow, that sounds like a corny movie line. I’m sure many have.”
“Har, har.” He snatched his cigarette. “Three therapists ago I had a woman, like you but much weirder and she spent half of our sessions flirting with me instead of helping.”
“And why has this moment reminded you of that, exactly?” She had to try not to giggle at his description of time passing in terms of therapists.
He shrugged. “I guess just ’cause you’re an attractive woman.” His tone was as callous as it could be and, in his heart of hearts, he prayed she’d see through to his true intentions.
Instead she shook her head, laughing. “I mean, that’s awful, and I can promise you right now I will not be doing that.”
“I didn’t think so.”
He took a drag and passed it back.
But she is beautiful…
She took a drag and passed it back.
He’s just so handsome…
He closed his eyes and turned, passing it straight to her. “You finish it,” he insisted.
I should go. But I don’t want to leave her here…
“No, it’s yours,” Temari argued, holding it between them.
If I finish it, and he’s finished talking, I have no reason to stay…
“Seriously,” he mumbled, edging closer by a couple of shuffling steps. “It’s yours, Tem.”
I’m yours, Tem…
Slowly, she put it to her lips, smirking. “So you’re okay?”
Shikamaru shrugged. “Well, if by that you mean—”
“I mean other than the general misery that sometimes comes with being depressed,” she butted in with a smile. “Other than that are you okay?”
Warmly he smiled. “I suppose so. I don’t know how you do it though.”
“Do what?”
He averted his eyes, scuffing his boots against the floor. “Well, I dunno. It’s a drag but you always calm me down somehow. I felt so...” A gentle chuckle fluttered from his lips. “I guess, really het up—really on edge, you know. But when I saw you and we started talking to you, I faded away a bit.”
“Met me as in first met me or today?”
“Both.”
Temari couldn’t stop herself smiling. “You’re very sweet underneath everything.”
“Um!” he replied, offended as his head shot up. “The fuck do you mean ‘underneath everything’?”
“Oh shut up,” she giggled, reaching out and gently placing her hand on his shoulder. “You know what I mean.”
Shikamaru shook his head, eyes fixed on hers. “You’re a bitch.”
“I’m not.”
“No, you’re right,” he admitted, grinning into his scarf, hidden from her. “You’re not.”
Shikamaru slowly reached up and placed his hand on Temari’s atop his shoulder, pursing his lips. Even through her gloves he could feel the warmth of her hands, and he rubbed the back of her fingertips gently with his thumb. The moment wouldn’t last long, he knew that, and so he had to cherish it; this ability to look into her eyes and her look right back, her smile at him humorously without a trace of pity, all while her hand was beneath his, tucked in tight.
Finally, Temari wriggled her hand free, blushing—or at least he thought she was. It was probably just the cold. She shot him a gentle smile and stepped back, taking one final drag from the cigarette in her hand. “Shall I, um,” she faltered. “Shall I try and book you in some time this week? So we can talk before next Monday?”
“Yes.” He nodded a little too enthusiastically. “I’d, um, appreciate that.”
“I’ll text you if I can get it changed, okay? I’ll tell the receptionist to try at your parents request.”
He smiled. “Thank you.”
“I’ll, um…” Temari pointed at the gate they came through. “I’ll go.”
“If you need to,” he mumbled.
“Huh?”
Shikamaru shoved his hands in his pockets, shaking his head slowly. “Don’t worry, Tem.” He gave her a somewhat wounded look, worried she felt as awkward as he thought she did. “I’ll see you soon, yeah?”
“Definitely.”
Waving, she spun around and paced toward the park entrance, and as he watched her walk away, her ponytail swishing violently, he started to slowly shuffle backwards. His body was doing all it could to stop him—to run after her and grab her hand and ask her to stay—but he could just about control his feet to move the other way, despite the reaching of hi stomach. He refused to turn around, praying that somehow, before she made it to the gate, she would turn around and come back. Still, he noticed his wishful thinking.
While she wasn’t running back, Temari did turn her head and smile at him, raising her hand slowly in a wave. By default, he raised his back, grinning in her general direction, even past the moment she span around and walked away. Fishing out of his pocket another smoke and his phone, he opened it up and began to type a message.
‘Thank you for that, Tem. I needed that. Do you maybe want to go for coffee next—’
For a second, he stopped, letting out a deep breath so warm to the cold air it rivalled his smoke clouds. Who was he kidding? He couldn’t ask her something like that! Not now, not ever.
So, with a heavy heart Shikamaru held down the backspace key and shuffled toward the other end of the park slowly. Maybe one day she’d realise, but he couldn’t hold out hope for that—her job was to help him, and he had no doubt that she would, but it didn’t make it any kinder on his heart that he couldn’t help her with her woes, too.

The Scroll (pt 1)
Part Fifteen of Ninja Dorks Flailing at Interpersonal Relations
Emotions are running high in this chapter!
One | Previous
FIFTEEN
"What the fuck?" Sakura wrenched her hand from Sasuke's grasp.  "You didn’t ask me if we should get married.  Where did you come up with this idea?"
The only reaction was the slight crinkling of Sasuke's brow.  "You mentioned it this morning."  He turned away from her and to the village leader.  "You'll have to excuse her."
Sakura gasped as her belly burning with embarrassment and humiliation.  The only thing that kept her from punching Sasuke to the next mountain was the light shade of pink his face was turning.
"Maybe you two need to talk it out."  Yasuo frantically shooed away a group bringing a platform to the front of the crowd
“That’s not necessary,” replied Sasuke.  “Sakura has always wanted to marry me.”
The terrible truth of his statement pushed Sakura to her breaking point.   Not wanting to have the argument in the middle of the village, Sakura lunged for Sasuke.  He grunted in surprise as she threw wrapped her arms around his midsection.  She channeled her chakra down her legs as she crouched down.  Sasuke was half-tossed over her shoulder as she gave a terrific leap into the air.
The village shrunk to meaningless dot as Sasuke's cloak whipped around them.  She let go of Sasuke when the cloak wrapped around her head, but she kept a steady hand on them as the approached the surface of the adjacent mountain.  They landed in tandem on the cliffside and separated to face each other.
"Was that necessary?"  Sasuke tugged at the cloak around his shoulder to straighten it.
"You don't want to have this conversation in public," Sakura said as she resisted the urge to stamp her foot.  "Why did you think I wanted to get married?"
"You were talking about it this morning."
"Yes!  Because I was talking about Naruto's wedding.  I wasn’t asking to elope with you!"
Sasuke furrowed his brow. "I don’t understand why you are so upset.  You said the only thing that you needed at your wedding was the man you are going to marry."
Sakura clasped her hand together and brought them to her chest.  "I said that it was the only thing I needed at my wedding, but I want more than that, Sasuke!"
Sasuke huffed. "You should make up your mind."
"Sasuke, I don't want to marry you!"
The scream echoed in the empty mountainside and Sakura hoped that it didn't carry far enough to that they could hear it in the village.
Sasuke furrowed his brow in confusion.  "What?"
Sakura threw her hands up into the air.  "Sasuke... we can't get married.  You’re not ready to be married.  You came up with the idea because of Naruto.   And I’m not going to be a part of your stupid friendship where you always try to one-up each other.  I thought you learned your lesson when you lost your arm!”
Sasuke drew back in anger and Sakura knew she had pushed him too far.  "I'm the one that suggested we get married.  You're the one that opposes the idea."
The only warning Sakura had was a small spike of chakra before Sasuke vanished.  Angry, Sakura tossed her pack against the cliff wall and then marched over to join it.  The sun had only been in the sky for a couple of hours and it was already burning at her skin.  She sat down once next to her pack in the shaded area.  "It figures that he would leave now."  She punched the rock next to her and turned it into dust.
What was she going to do? Was Sasuke coming back for her? Did he just need some time to cool off before he would return?  How long should she wait for him?
Sakura had not hesitated when Sasuke asked her to join him on his travel, happy that they were on the same page.  Sakura had imagined her relationship with Sasuke a hundred times.  She had dreamt of bringing Sasuke over to her parents’ house for dinner.  She imagined chatting with Ino as they picked out flowers for the bouquet.  She had visions of an incredibly smashed Tsunade in the corner of their small wedding reception.  She had never imagined getting married in the middle of a mountain town with little warning and no friends.
Sasuke said he was ready to married Sakura, but it didn’t feel like it.  It was impossible to deny the feelings she had for Sasuke, but she was tired of waiting for him.  She tired of feeling alone even when she was in his company.  Yes, he had returned to the village specifically for her.  He had kissed her, but he had yet to say he loved her. He rarely initiated conversation with her, leaving Sakura with the pressure of filling the silence, carefully choosing her words in his presence.  The one time Sakura spoke unrestrained caused Sasuke to run off rather than hearing to her words.
Naruto would have pestered her until she was forced to admit what was bothering her.  Ino would have invited her to go out and Sakura would have shared her story willingly.  Kakashi would have...
Sakura bit her tongue. It was unfair to compare Kakashi and Sasuke to each other, and she had done her best to dismiss any thoughts of Kakashi after Pakkun’s scolding.  But she missed him.  She missed his bed.  She missed waking up with a snoring dog at her feet as stood in the bedroom doorway to call her to breakfast.  She missed sitting on his couch as she watched TV while he read a book next to her for companionship.  She admired his commitment and his selflessness.   He gave nothing less than everything for the village.
Sakura dug into her belongings searching for the scroll Kakashi had sent, eager for a reminder of home.  Her fingers traced over the wax seal, her finger catching in the bite mark left behind by Pakkun's teeth.  Trembling, Sakura broke the seal and unfurled the scroll.  A small note fell out, and Sakura lifted it to read.
Konoha will always be your home when you are ready to come back.  Take care.
Yours,
Kakashi
Sakura crinkled the note in her hand, hating the disappointment blooming in her chest because of her own greed.  Thanks to Tsunade and Pakkun, Sakura had begun to think there might have been something between two of them.  She had built up the message in her head into some grandiose statement only to be met with more disappointment.
Kakashi was a man, someone who had a lifetime of grief before she was even born.  What would he want with a silly girl like her, someone who had run off her with her childhood crush because she couldn’t see beyond the stars in her eyes?
Foolish
Sakura dug through her belongings for a water bottle when Sasuke reappeared.  Sakura returned the half-opened scroll in her bag.  “Where did you go?”
“I had to return to the village to tell them there wasn’t a ceremony,” Sasuke replied.  “It was humiliating.”
“Join the club.” Sakura wiped the tears off her face and took a long drink of water before speaking.  “Sasuke, why do you want to marry me?”
“You’re strong and you can take care of yourself.  You’ve always wanted to be with me.  I never have to worry about you if we are apart.”  He shrugged.  “Since Naruto was getting married I thought it was our time.”
“I see.”  And Sakura did.
Back in Konoha, Sai was constantly reading psychology books so he could be with Ino.  Shikamaru was studying treaties and navigating a political minefield so he could be with Temari.  Sasuke loved her enough to marry her, but not enough to want to take care of her.  He wanted to give her a relationship but didn’t understand the responsibilities of being in one.  Would he ever be ready?
Looking at his face, at his cool compose expression, she wasn’t certain.  He was so calm while her longest-held dream fell apart.
“Sasuke, this isn’t working.”
“I don’t understand. Why does it matter when we get married when this is what you have always wanted?”
“Sasuke, you want to marry me because of Naruto, because I’m a convenient choice because I can stand on my own two feet.  But you there was only one answer that you needed to say, and that is because you love me.”  Sakura pressed her hands against her mouth to hold back her sob, squeezing her eyes shut. “Sasuke, you didn’t even think about saying it.”
“You don’t want me.” Sasuke placed his hand on his sword and Sakura tensed before she realized the only fidgeting.  “Am I not enough?”  For the first time, she saw his confidence waiver.
Sakura turned her back to him, unable to bear the hurt expression on his face.  She could no longer hold back her tears as she began to sob in earnest.  Through it, she waited for Sasuke’s to reach for her, to feel his hand on her back, to hear his voice.  She only cried harder by his absence.
Sakura was able to speak again when her body wrung dry of tears.  Sasuke had sat down during her breakdown on a nearby rock, pulling at a thread on the bottom of his shirt.  Sakura returned the empty water bottle in her bag.
“Sasuke, I’m the greatest medic-nin in the world.  My place is in a hospital, where I can make medical advancements so every country can benefit.  I understand why you’re out here, I really do, but I belong in Konoha.  If I were to ask you to live there with me, would you do it?”
Again, she was met with silence, but the minute reactions on Sasuke’s face told its own story.  He was finally catching on to her point.
“Konoha, the village, hasn’t felt like home in a long time, Sakura.”  His hand vanished under his cloak to rub at what remained of his left arm.
“I know.”  Sakura nodded her head, “I know.  I think I want more than what you want to give and it’s not fair to either of us.  One of us is always going to be disappointed.”
Sasuke gave a soft laugh. “I’m trying to remember a time when you didn’t have a crush on me.”
Sakura stood up to give him hug, her words muffled by his clothing.  “Idiot.  I don’t have a crush on you.  I love you. I think you’re brave and strong, and what you’re doing is incredible.  But we don’t belong together.”
“Can I ask for your help if I need it?”  Sasuke removed himself from his grasp.
“Of course,” replied Sakura as she gave him a soft smile, “but you won’t.”
Sasuke raised his hand, hovering in mid-air as he tried to decide what to do.  He finally settled for patting her on the shoulder as a goodbye. Sakura turned away, grabbed her things, and used the body flicker technique to leave Sasuke before she lost her courage.  She wasn’t going to watch him walk away this time.

story - PIVOT!
A Naruto ‘Friends’ AU. I don’t own Naruto or Friends, but this was written for my love for writing and I intend on continuing this series for a long, long time. Hope you enjoy it, and please leave feedback!
AO3 | FFN
It begins, one would say, in a small ramen-house in the middle of Konoha.
The time is Spring, during which Tenten finds herself walking out of her workplace and onto sunlit streets. She purchases a green tea smoothie on her way to her friends' meeting point, beaming up at the sunshine that's peeking through sweeping skyscrapers. Her work is largely confined to the kitchen of Yakiniku Q, where she's been steadily working her way up from waitress to sous-chef over the course of four years. She likes to think that she's a hard worker with a good head on her shoulders and an expansive knowledge of the culinary arts.
By day, Tenten is an aspiring chef. By night, she specialises in the complexities of kitchen knives.
And, on the plus side, she's having dinner with this cute guy from work named Juugo, the 'Meat Guy'. He's timid and speaks softly, even though he's about as brawny as a wrestler from the heavy-duty work he does with meat. Despite the fact that they've only ever communicated in short bursts of time, and she's never really seen him without meat, Tenten likes that he's at least a hard-working person at work.
The only real issue lies behind the doors of Ichiraku's, and on the cozy little couch formation in the corner that's permanently reserved for a group of five.
"Tenten!" is the first word she hears when she steps inside, removing her trench-coat from her shoulders and revelling in the warmth of the restaurant. It's small and constantly smells like noodle soup, but it also serves the best coffee at a price that doesn't involve donating a kidney to the black market. She makes her way over to the corner and settles in between an ecstatic Lee and an arguing Neji and Naruto.
"You need to stop cooking ramen at three in the morni-"
"It's ramen!"
Neji makes a wild, sweeping gesture across the entire restaurant. "We practically live in a ramen-house."
Lee greets her and takes a sip out of her smoothie. "How was work?"
"It was great," Tenten snatches her drink from Lee's spandex-covered arm and drinks from the straw happily. "I'm having dinner with a guy from work soon."
Naruto's mouth, opened mid-argument, snaps shut as quickly as Neji's jaw drops open. "A date?"
Naruto is the first to recover, as always. "You're going on a date?"
"Yes," she replies, bristling, "And it's not a date. It's just two people going out to dinner...and not having sex."
"Still," Neji chimes in, "He's going out with you, so there has to be something wrong with him."
"How decidedly un-youthful, Neji!" Lee shakes his shiny, black bob in disappointment, "So, does he have a hump? A hump and a hairpiece?"
Tenten sends Lee a youthful glare and laughs. "Conjure up any dream you want, but I still have a date."
"A-ha!" Naruto shouts, almost knocking his ramen bowl over. "So it is a date."
He is met with a bemused silence, and then the doors slam open. In walks Sasuke Uchiha, his spiky hair fresh out of a '90s Japanese mens' magazine, and a miserable expression lining his face. It's pouring outside, with the onset of Spring beginning to purge out the storms of Winter. Naruto immediately waves at his long-time best friend and gestures towards the other chair in their area. Sasuke plops down onto it, throws his soaking-wet umbrella onto the table, which hurls water onto Neji's delicate face, and frowns. "Hi."
Tenten's radar turns on immediately. Her younger brother is by no means a cheerful person, but his mood has been particularly sour lately. It could have been a bad day at work, and given that it's a curatorial job, Tenten wouldn't be surprised, or it could have been the fact that his wife of four years was his ex-wife as of six months ago. "You okay, Sasuke?"
"I just feel like someone reached down my throat, grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out of my mouth, and tied it around my neck." He responds in a clipped tone, his pale complexion providing a stark contrast against the raindrops streaking down his face.
Neji, now dried and still relatively bitter, holds up a plate. "Cookie?"
Tenten rolls her eyes. "Temari moved her stuff out today."
"Ohhh," Naruto replies, his tone a little less harsher than before. The blonde man quietens down out of respect for Sasuke's broody demeanour and slurps at his ramen bowl. She hasn't known Naruto as long as she's known Neji - who'd been introduced to her by Sasuke during their college years. But she's been around Naruto long enough to see that his back is tighter than it had been minutes ago and his jaw is ever-so-slightly clenched - both signs that he's deep in thought, the existential sort.
She decides to alleviate the sudden blanket of tension by ordering a cup of coffee, black, because Sasuke doesn't like have saccharine things in his life. She spots Lee picking at the air in front of Sasuke with an exuberant expression on his face, and then sees Sasuke slapping his hand away when she comes back with a mug in her hands. "Here, drink up."
He accepts it and turns to everyone, mainly Lee. "I'll be fine. We ended on a mature note, and I hope she'll be happy." The sentence sounds robotic, almost rehearsed.
"No, you dont."
Sasuke agrees with her, his voice rising in volume until he's fuming and tomato-red. "To Hell with her."
"Look," Naruto interjects, his face free of noodles, "We get it. You're feeling a lot of pain right now. You're angry. You're hurting. You didn't know that she was a lesbian." At that, Sasuke's mouth opens angrily. Naruto stops him. "You know what the solution is?"
Neji, Tenten and Lee curiously observe Sasuke gesturing for Naruto to continue. It isn't every day that Naruto overtly displays an ability to empathise with Sasuke, however close they are.
"Strip joint! Come on, you're single now! Have some hormones." Nevermind.
"But," Sasuke grinds his teeth together like the bane of existence is Naruto, and not the ex plaguing his mind. "I don't want to be single. I want to be married again. To her."
Tenten lifts her smoothie up to her lips and exchanges glances with Neji. Sasuke's been taking his divorce as well as they'd predicted, which wasn't well at all. The door slams open again, prompting Ayame to run towards the entrance and usher a waterlogged bride into the restaurant. The group lapses into a shocked silence when the woman walks past them, hands rubbing her upper arms as she shivers uncontrollably. Tenten catches a hint of pink hair from behind the veil and narrows her eyes at the woman. Something seems oddly familiar about her.
It hits her when Neji says something mildly sarcastic and Sasuke stands up from his seat as though he's in a trance.
"Sakura?"
